The TTYD Remake is really just reminding me how tired I am of remakes that are just rereleases like holy shit yeah no this is like a new game. They're adding so much to it and fleshing it out so much I am so excited for this thing I really wish every remake got this treatment!

Something that I like about the Mario and Luigi community is how some people take it more serious than others, and how both sides are always going to be correct in a way.

Mario games are child friendly and you would never find something harmful for younger players in them, but if you think about them for just a few seconds they turn dark quite easily.

Yes, Cackletta is a funny villain who is evil and in the end she loses to Mario and Luigi because that's just how those stories end. But then you start thinking and realize that in that world, Cackletta too, was an individual, and that she just lost her life. And if you take it even further you could say she got brutally torn to shreds and suffered horribly until her untimely demise.

Yes Fawful is funny villain who is evil and talks funny, and in the end he loses because that's just how it works. But he's also an individual who just lost his life. And he also just committed suicide.

And all of those takes are correct. It's... Amazing really! I love it!

Lyric Headcanon

I know I'm like a bazillion years late and I'm so sorry, @peaches2217 wrote this adorable story back in August and at the end included a cute callback to One Step Closer. The reference was a quote from the eponymous U2 song, where the lyric "a heart that hurts is a heart that beats," is mentioned as something the Bros mother used to say.

I think it was so sweet and it kind of gave me this sense that the Bros' mom quoting U2 was becoming fanon 😂 So what if their mom was just a huge U2 fan, and all her wise or uplifting quotes that the boys fondly remember are literally just lyrics from their songs? They have plenty of material and quotes I've adored my whole life. I'll make a list here, and I may incorporate this into my future fics. Any other Mario writers are welcome to do the same as long as you give me a little shoutout 😎

it was literally like 80 percent remakes and remasters.

never in my life have i seen an announcement video exist just to say "every game you've ever known since the 90s is being remade/remastered, sorry, we ran out of originality".

literally like all the video game market is anymore is remakes and the movie industry is just as bad.

the nso releases are fine because they're not like, remakes taking up full game slots. they're old games that are being made accessible and that's great... but there's no need to remake this many games when they can do that. remakes used to be rare. remember stuff like the wii u shop and stuff? with all the games they had on those things? now it's a tiny selection and everything else is a remake :/

also I feel like a lot of new rpgs are just like... lowkey fe knockoffs now instead of original rpgs.

i'm happy for like... two existing remakes, but one of them is mario rpg which people wanted waaaaAAAAAYYYY before the remake and remaster era, and the other is baten kaitos which im not actually happy about remaster-wise (the updated ui is trash, they took out very specific charms of the original ui), just happy that it will get more recognition/notice from people since it was never popular.

they also completely removed the english voice acting which like okay yeah it wasn't always that great but the voices fit perfectly and it wasn't as bad as fans meme on it for! it just sounded like they were talking through a tube and that was actually the worst part of it lol.

someone suggested to me that they may have just lost the data for it, but idk. i wish they'd just admit that somehow if it was the case, because it bugs me that the english audio is just completely gone when ultimately i really liked it. i wanted the game to be accessible to newer players, sure, but i also wanted the english audio there. ig that's because i grew up with it and i liked it, but it's still such a bummer for me!

paper mario being put on the nso and tyd getting a whole remaster does make me sad tho bc it feels like they're leaving the original in the dust when it was so good. if you're gonna do tyd, at least do them both.

good for innersloth though, i'm sure they never imagined being on a nintendo direct. they're the real winners here.

honestly i’m so fucking mad about the mario movie because like it looks SO FUCKING GOOD!! i can see how much love for mario is in it and it makes even me, a sort of not all that big on mario person, feel real excited for mario!

but crisp rat’s hugely uninspired mario take is just so bad that it feels like a slap in the face. It’s like getting a bouquet of your favorite flowers of all time all fresh and beautiful and you’re like wow thank you and then a hand comes out of the flowers and just straight up decks you. the flowers are still nice but my nose hurts now.

Her fingers idly played with the hem of your shirt at your back, tracing little patterns that were lulling you into a blissful haze of sleep. You were just on the brink, that sweet spot between wakefulness and unconsciousness, when her voice broke through the silence.

"Do you love me?"

At first, you thought you'd imagined it. Her words were soft, barely a whisper, and muffled by where her face was pressed against your chest. You made a sleepy sound of confusion, your brain slow to catch up.

Then she repeated it, this time a little louder. "Do you love me?"

Your eyes snapped open, blinking into the darkness. You couldn't see her face—her head was tucked too snugly against you—but you could feel the weight of her question. There was no playful lilt to her voice, no teasing smile pressing against your skin. It was an honest question, and she wanted an answer.

You tightened your arm around her, your fingers brushing through the soft strands of her hair. "Of course I love you," you murmured, your voice husky with sleep.

She didn't respond right away, but you felt the slight tension in her body ease, her grip on your waist relaxing. You thought that would be the end of it, and you let your eyes slip shut again, ready to sink back into sleep.

But then, her voice broke the quiet once more. "What are your favorite things about me?"

You groaned softly, burying your face in the pillow for a moment. "Baby, it's late," you mumbled, your words half-slurred.

You felt her huff against your chest, her lips pushing into a pout that you could feel through your shirt. She shifted slightly, her fingers pausing their movements against your back. "Please," she said softly, her accent making the word sound even sweeter.

With a sigh, you opened your eyes again, blinking at the ceiling. "Fine," you relented, your voice laced with faux irritation. "Where do I even start?”

She hummed in satisfaction, settling deeper into your embrace as she waited for your answer.

"Okay," you began, your thumb brushing absentmindedly over the back of her neck. "I love the way you smile. That little crinkle at the corner of your eyes when you're really happy? It's adorable.”

You felt her lips twitch against your chest, and you knew she was smiling now.

"I love how determined you are," you continued. "When you set your mind to something, nothing can stop you. It's inspiring."

Her fingers started moving again, tracing patterns on your back as she listened.

"I love how much you care about people," you said softly. "Your family, your friends, your teammates—you'd do anything for them. For me."

There was a pause, and then her voice came, quiet and a little bashful. "More."

You chuckled, shaking your head slightly. "I love how you always try so hard, even when your English trips you up. It's the cutest thing in the world."

She made a sound that was half a laugh, half a protest, and you grinned.

"And I love how competitive you are," you added, your voice teasing now. "Even if it means you won't let me win at Mario Kart."

She swatted lightly at your side, but you could feel her laughing against you.

"And," you finished, your voice softening again, "I love how you make me feel. Like I'm the most important person in the world."

There was a moment of silence, the weight of your words hanging between you. Then she shifted, pressing a soft kiss to your collarbone.

"Thank you," she murmured, her voice quiet but sincere.

You hummed in response, your eyes slipping shut again as you grazed your thumb over her neck. You thought that would be the end of it.

But then her voice came again, pulling you back from the edge of sleep. "Do you remember when we first met?"

You groaned softly, resisting the urge to throttle her with affection. "Ale," you muttered, your voice muffled by the pillow.

"Tell me," she insisted, her tone bordering on pleading. "Please."

With a deep sigh, you gave in, your voice laced with mock exasperation. "Fine. But after this, we're going to sleep."

She hummed in agreement, though you had a feeling she wouldn't stick to it.

"It was at an open training session," you began, your voice taking on a softer tone as you recalled the memory. "I wasn't even supposed to be there, but one of my friends dragged me along. Said it'd be fun."

You felt her nod against your chest, her fingers resuming their gentle movements on your back.

"I remember seeing you on the pitch," you continued. "You were so focused, so confident. I couldn't take my eyes off you."

She shifted slightly, as though trying to hide her reaction, but you could feel the warmth of her blush against your skin.

"After the session, I mustered up the courage to talk to you," you said, a small smile tugging at your lips. "I didn't think you'd even notice me, let alone be interested."

"I was," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.

"I know that now," you teased, your tone light. "But back then, I was nervous. I think I rambled about something ridiculous, but you just smiled at me like I wasn't making a complete fool of myself."

"You were sweet," she said softly.

"And you were shy," you countered, a hint of amusement in your voice. "You barely said a word, but somehow, I knew I wanted to see you again."

You felt her arms tighten around your waist, her hold on you becoming a little firmer.

"And now, here we are," you finished, your voice trailing off as you pressed a kiss to the top of her head.

She was quiet for a moment, and you thought maybe she'd finally settled. But then she shifted, her lips parting as though to speak again.

Before she could, you cupped the back of her head, gently but firmly pressing her face against your chest. "I love you, Ale," you said, your voice fond but firm. "But it's late. Time for bed."

She grumbled softly, her breath warm against your skin. You could practically feel her pouting, and you couldn't help but chuckle.

"You can ask me more questions tomorrow," you promised, your fingers threading through her hair.

She sighed, her body relaxing against yours as she finally conceded. "Okay," she murmured, her voice tinged with sleep.

You smiled, holding her close as you let your eyes slip shut once more. You knew she'd be full of questions in the morning, but for now, you were content to drift off with her in your arms, her soft breath lulling you into a peaceful sleep.

One of the gimmicks being centered around Luigi's intelligence??? HE'S FINALLY BEING ACKNOWLEDGED AS SMART FOR ONCE! THIS IS A BIG W FOR US WEEGEE FANS!

This all feels hella inspires by the film, but this particular spin off has always shown them being loving siblings, and I'm glad that it feels like the film has fueled this. Even the intro is almost identical to when they get separated!
