It is the weirdest feeling, being abroad visiting my partner’s family in a land of relative stability while friends and family members are missing after land being swept away and swallowed up. To be offered to replace my friends and relatives while their status is still listed as missing, and I have the ability to fly back to step in while we are unsure if our family is still alive.
