Excerpt:

“Mm,” she agreed, a low drone behind the clang of her work. “When one log catches fire, the whole house burns.” She cannot look at him, but her attention is palpable, a touch. “The wheel turns in Koshstena.”

Ah, he had been afraid of that. “Unfortunate. Koleso is seldom kind. Though,” he added with a bitter laugh, “you will not have another Chuul here. The Zhartisov will not allow it.”

“There are no more Zhartisov.”

Konstantijn’s gaze snapped to her. “No more…? Does the Deathless’ Throne sit empty?”

“No,” she said, though her mouth wraps around the wors as if she wished she could say yes. “Ivan Ivanovitch sits there still, tsarevitch of all Kiva.”

“Ivan.” He laughed, weary. “It is always an Ivan, is it not?”

She cocked her head. “The Zhartisov have always been partial to the name.”

“Ah, never mind.” He grinned, even though his chest ached. “A joke. An old one. But if a Zhartisov sits on the throne, then Kiva has nothing to fear.”

Sometimes you just have one of those moments where the progress we've made as a culture get thrown into stark relief. You look at something and go "Holy shit, that would never have happened when I was a kid."

Today, I had one of those moments when I realized that the teenage boys I'm working with are just. genuinely, openly enthusiastic about going to Build-a-Bear for their outing.

These are sixteen and seventeen year old boys! They just had a whole conversation about what to name their "cute", mostly new squishmallows! They're genuinely excited that they're going to Build-a-Bear this weekend and asking other kids to pick up specific accessories for them!!

Holy shit, that never would've happened when I was 16. None of the boys would have dared to be visibly interested - and neither would most of the girls! There would have been a million gay jokes and "Haha, you're a girl" jokes and "What are you, a baby?" jokes. Teenagers weren't even supposed to care about anything back then!

Less than 15 years later, and I'm watching three 17 year old boys treat all that as not even worthy of comment.

So let's call that a reason for hope. Even when the kids aren't alright, in some ways apparently they are alright. Go Gen Z, honestly. It's so lovely to watch you guys just openly doing and saying stuff that, when I was a teen, would've been a social death sentence.

i’m not the biggest bingliushen truther but instead of bingqiu pursuing liu qingge, what if bingliu had to suffer as they try navigating coaxing shen yuan into not imploding every time he thought one of them had impressive forearms, together.

I really think the Williams team hasn't realized how much of their treatment towards Logan has lost them a lot of good will among fans. Like take his lap of legends, so much work went in to that, (from Logan, Williams Alumni, and the team behind it), was such a big opportunity, and really could have had generated some much needed good pr for the team and Logan, especially with the team and their treatment of Logan. Yet they allowed it to be overshadowed by the Alex announcement, like really you couldn't have waited at least a few days?

The moment Logan leaves I can see a lot of fans, just not interacting with Williams content anymore. As much as we talk about Alex and James Vowles being the ones who are restructuring/rebuilding Williams you can't forget Logan has also been a major face of that movement. All of their new era content, like their podcasts and interviews, Logan has played a major part in and I think a lot of fans will have a bad taste in their mouth watching once he leaves on such bad terms. Because realistically Logan has the perfect personality for that type of content and it will be nearly impossible to replace him there, its why he and Alex work together so well, they can match the energy and tangents.

Then you have to take into account of them Americans and drive to survive people. They get a lot of hate for either liking the sport at all or how they get into it. Logan is their driver, if you look at social media beyond Instagram comments you will find so much support for him. It is one thing to drop Logan as a driver because he's under-preforming (though I have thoughts about That to) but to go from saying you are going to do everything to help logan to publicly flirting with new drivers? Thats just rude. And now Williams are shutting themselves off from these markets/fan bases. I'm sorry but realistically Logan is leaving F1 and Americans will no longer have a home driver to root for and they will blame Williams for that so people will not stick around.

TLDR; Williams by being dicks have shot themselves in the foot next year publicity wise

had a dream where there was a trend where one person would ask drug of choice? n then someone else would answer with like a very specific often nostalgic memory n I thought about it too hard so anyways

drug of choice sodapop? The smell of the stables in the hours leading up to a rodeo. Hay in the back pockets of my jeans. My ma's chocolate cake.

drug or choice Steve? the smell of gasoline 'n rain after a storm when the DX is all empty. The sound a car makes when you rev the engine 'n know you're gonna win. The way blonde hair looks in the sunlight when we were both eight.

drug of choice darry? the feeling of my dad's chest rising and falling as he laughs. the first time my brothers skinned their knees and came to me for help. the notch on the doorway from the summer I shot up to six feet.

drug of choice pony? a frantic note scratched into the corner of the English notebook from my seventh grade year. the way a sunset looks when it's reflected in an oil spill. my brothers laughter from the living room that I can hear as I sit in the kitchen.

drug of choice Two-Bit? pop bottles instead of beer cans lined up along railings. someone half asleep on the bed made up on the sofa. someone reminding me that show they know I like is on.

drug of choice Johnny? a space left dangling for me at the end of the joke, the space on the sofa, the gap on the sidewalk. the smell of the lot after a clean summer rain. the tension dropping out of a shoulder.

drug of choice Dallas? a jacket too big. a shirt even bigger. the way a good bar fight feels before the pain sets in. a kid brothers laugh in the middle of August.

Buck scans the reception venue, eyes finally landing on Tommy. He's is sitting at an otherwise empty table in the back of the venue, sipping on punch and staring off in the distance. As Buck jogs over to him, Tommy notices him and his eyes lift with the hint of a smile. Buck slides into the chair nearest to him, hunching over earnestly.

"Tommy, hey. I'm so sorry. I did not mean to ditch you for half the wedding."

"Hey it's all good," Tommy shrugs. "You've got your priorities. Maddie needed you. No one could've predicted the chaos of the day."

"Yes," Buck responds, placing a hand on Tommy's. "But I'm still sorry. I'd do anything for Maddie, but it still wasn't okay to desert you."

Tommy mirrors Buck's movements and places his other hand on top of his. Smiles gently. "Evan. I can hold my own at a wedding. I promise."

Buck glances down, then looks up at Tommy, smiling shyly. "It's just... it's only our second date and I've fucked up both of them."

Tommy laughs. A real, pleasant laugh. It makes butterflies dance in Buck's stomach.

"You've done nothing of the sort, Evan," Tommy responds. "Sure, everything with you is.... unexpected. But I like it."

Now the butterflies are doing somersaults. "Yeah?"

Tommy smiles and squeezes his hand reassuringly. "Yeah."

Buck beams. God, he's so nervous. Tommy makes him nervous. He still can't believe Tommy has given him another chance after their train wreck of a first date. He'd been thinking about the wedding for days beforehand, just wanting everything to go perfectly. Needless to say, it had not gone perfectly. Not even close.

But here Tommy still was, smiling at him, holding his hand, forgiving him anyways. He hadn't left in the chaos. He-

"You're staring." Tommy's voice interrupts his train of thought. He raises his eyebrows. "Like what you see?"

Fuck, Tommy's so confident. Of course he's confident. He's cool, and he's loyal, and he's willing to take risks, and he has a cleft, and - Buck can't stop himself. He reaches his hand up and gently grasps Tommy by the chin, his thumb on that dimple and his four fingers brushing against the stubble near his neck.

"I'm gonna kiss you now," he says, breathless.

Tommy doesn't say anything, just nods solemnly.

Buck leans in and closes the gap, brushing his lips against Tommy's. Immediately, there's electricity buzzing between them and he deepens the kiss. Their noses and foreheads are pressed against each other, their lips dancing in unison, and there's nothing, nothing that Buck would rather be doing right now. His right hand snakes around Tommy's neck and he pulls him in closer, impossibly closer. The kiss is perfect. Tommy is perfect. He never wants this kiss to end.

But Tommy pulls back, ending the kiss far, far too early. His face his flushed and Buck is proud to notice that he might be a little breathless, too. He stands up, and Buck's eyes follow him, wide and wondering.

"C'mon," Tommy says, offering a hand to Buck where he remains in the chair.

Buck puts his hand in Tommy's but he can't move. His mind is still reeling from the kiss. He wants to kiss Tommy again.

"You said you needed someone to dance with, right?"

This shakes Buck out of his stupor, and he laughs. "Yeah, I did," he says, rising to his feet. He lets his eyes meet Tommy's and steps forward into his space. "Let's dance."
