Do you plan on finishing the Anchordeep mini-bosses?
I do! I only have Saleos’ design at the moment, but I’ll probably get back to the rest of them once I get the motivation to finish them.

Leshy seems like he has a statement to make.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is actually supposed to be a sequel to a piece of comic that I never got to finish... So my take is that during the time where there were still Gods to kill, Shamura would train their younger siblings and would send them on solo or duo missions with controllable danger. (I have several ideas under such premise, still working on them I swear.) However, one time a God would gave in their power to appeal to the shelter of a greater God just to bring the Bishops down. Heket was on the mission to kill the lesser God, unaware of the changing condition, and was almost killed by them (In the boss run, there are scars of unhealing wounds on her shoulder, my take is that she got them from other Gods, not Narinder. The same goes for Kallamar's eye scar) Shamura sensed the danger and forced their way in to rescue their sister and bring the two Gods down.
Still, Heket was guit-ridden and had nightmares. She would really loathe herself if she failed the mission and or even got Shamura killed. Shamura tried to calm her down by letting her listen to their heatbeat.
And my friend requested that Kallamar shall join them in cuddling. I am not ostracizing Narinder I swear! We just totally forgot about him! Sorry!
Tumblr media
Siblings' pasta time!
Kallamar: Get your own pasta!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok this was inspired by how I kept on getting food resources even without the "money change into food" map buff. And suprisingly, I got cauliflowers, pumpkins, and berries from Silk Cradle; just pumpkins from both Anchordeep and Darkwood; and all four kinds of resources from Anura. It's as if the Bishops would save food for their siblings' visit, awww
I would like to amend that God tears are supposed to come from the great ones, but I drew this one quite early... You could think that Kallamar put the God tear there so as to preserve the pumpkins. (idk why)
Anyway, Heket gets to eat her share of the pumpkins after all! So it's a good ending! (Heket:...)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Narinder, being a good big brother.
Leshy, being a good young God of Chaos.
Tumblr media
Cute Bishops round-up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Narinder, not being a good younger brother.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kallamar, being a big brother that everyone tortures.
I know I've been stuck to adding real-life zoology to fictional, humanized animals, yet Shamura is holding a bottle of milk. Actually this makes perfect sense because there is a type of spider that produces milk for younglings. So this does not break the rule! Hahahaha.
Tumblr media
To showcase, here's a guess of Heket's childhood. Real-life frogs are not quite intelligent. So at the beginning of her godhood, Heket would be limited to the intellectual level of a regular frog follower. But she could do well in harnessing her physical power (strong lil frog arms and legs) to learn combat moves and soon grasped fundamentals of her god power. The one thing she failed at was doing paperworks.
But she worked much, much harder than Kallamar and Narinder combined in learning, and made great progress along her ascension.
Shamura could see her diligence and loves all their siblings equally, the love is just displayed with different tactics. They would also provide words of wisdom to guide them, both with combat moves and mundane paperworks.
And of course, Heket eventually was just as smart as any other siblings.

Kallamar the Coward
Thinking about Kallamar in Cult of the Lamb, with how the lore and even his own siblings taunt him for being a coward and he even tries to bargain and sway you away from getting your revenge and killing him, even ready to throw Shamura under the bus to save himself, but then when you finally push him into a corner and he's forced to fight he not only busts out a bunch of weapons and starts quad-wielding them but he was once regarded by the fandom as being among the hardest bosses of the base game.
It got me thinking, was he always like this? Narinder certainly thinks so, but there's bias there. It's easy to just write him off as always being a mess like this...
But there's no denying he's the second in power after Shamura, Anchordeep is known for its beauty, he takes personal pride in the way he took care of his cult/area, and when in Purgatory out of all the bishops he's notably the most lucid/aware of where he is.
So I present this: After Narinder's sealing, Shamura was in no state to lead or give orders. The Bishops all had massive injuries that refused to heal. Who out of the 4 would immediately be assumed to be the one to take a leadership role? Who had comparatively more "manageable" injuries to take care of the other 3? And who would you assume is most likely to have medical experience to at least try to lessen the impact of all of their wounds?
Kallamar, Pestilence and Cure.
Early on after The One Who Waits was sealed away, Kallamar would have had to effectively take over the Old Faith while also caring for a broken beyond repair older sibling, who had always been the "Wise" one that the others blindly followed, yet was now barely even there at the best of times, and two younger siblings, one who was now permanently blind (and young/weak enough that they couldn't even muster a single Curse towards the Lamb before being crushed within days of their resurrection even years after the sealing, so just imagine how new to godhood they were back when this all started), and another who had had her throat torn out, all while downplaying his own wounds.
What if, then, at some point, he simply broke?
He resents Shamura, even potentially sincerely blames them for causing the entire thing (which Shamura confesses to), both leading them to turn on Narinder and also for leading everyone to killing the Lambs. He's still fond of Leshy, but from how quick to take charge Heket is, it's clear that after he proved unable to take the stress of it all, she was next in line as the "leader" of The Old Faith. There's gotta be some resentment there on both ends because of that, particularly with how quick he is to criticize how she took care of her territory.
And then compare how he is as a bishop to how he is as a follower. I think it's very very interesting that he goes from a dirty coward and absolute pathetic mess of anxiety and fear, to pleading directly to his own executioner for help, to being almost perfectly happy and content to simply be a Follower of the Lamb's cult. The others (minus Shamura, due to their condition) are resentful and quick to give sharp words to the Lamb, but Kallamar? It's like all his anxiety is gone with his godhood. He has nothing to fear anymore, and is almost ridiculously quick to be friendly to the Lamb and share his tastes in decor and pride in appearances with them. Not even in the "kissing up" way, he talks like they're equals. Is this what Kallamar was like, before everything? Is he actually HAPPIER as a Mortal now that all of the responsibility and fear of death is gone? Even secretly grateful?
There's no denying his cowardice. There's no denying it crossed a line when he was ready to betray Shamura when his nerves reached their limit. There's no denying that as much as he'd like to believe that he is absolved of guilt for The Old Faith's sins simply because he was just doing what Shamura told him to even if he claims he thought it was a bad idea.
But you also have to wonder what caused that cowardice to form, and what other feelings motivate his actions besides fear.
(tldr: sad squid was not ready to become the responsible one, especially not after going deaf and being traumatized. Has a mental breakdown halfway through raising the others due to not being able to actually deal with going deaf or being traumatized because it turns out being the god of physical health is different from mental health. Little sister ends up having to step up and be the mom now. Their relationship never recovered because of it, and he now blames the eldest for failing them and also for his own failures to cope. As a bonus developed an attachment to his own killer out of some weird warped perception of them "rescuing" him from his stress and then from death itself.)

Which of the bishops ends up having the most children? Logically it would be kallamar due to his loser rizz harem but eventually i think the lamb would ban him from having anymore kids due to the fact squid die shortly after mating and there's only so many times you can resurrect someone before it gets annoying.
I dont necessarily keep 100% to animal anatomy here. Im a monster fucker, not a furry.
Kallamar and his spouses (all his mini bosses) have so many kids and those kids have so many kids and they all set up in anchordeep. So by the time bell is born and grown, a lot of the citizens carry around ancestry charts so they don't accidently marry their cousins or something
The one that ends up taking on the blue crown as Bells "cousin" (she's at least 3 generations and families removed from her at this point) Flamboyant cuttlefish named Kalisiopia (kali for short) who had to have basically a battle royal with all her relatives to earn the right.
Also she likes to flirt with aym and baal and bell HATES it
Also, if you know about how smaller male cuttlefish behave, enjoy knowing she's trans

Shamura never thought they'd fall for one of the lambs followers.
But once they saw you tag along with the lamb on a crusade,
Something within them clicked.
Was it the way you fought?
The way you tended to your brethren when they were wounded?
The way you looked?
Your personality?
They had no idea, they just wanted to know.
They wanted to snatch you up right there and then, to take you back to their temple and simply hold you tight.
but they had more self control than that.
They'd wait until their boss fight, waiting until the lamb had perished, to kidnap you and hide you.
If you succumbed to Stockholm Syndrome, they'd let you out, but not after some complete confirmation that you wouldn't run.
As seen with Narinder, they aren't a fan of locking people up unless necessary.
Even if you did manage to be let out, you'd be close to them at all times. If they were in the temple, you would be too. etc, etc.
Expect cuddle sessions 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺. 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦. 𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵. They tend to get scared that something'll happen, and you'll have to be locked away like Narinder.
I tend to think that they would be a soft yandere, but still wouldn't be afraid to murder the lot of their own cult for you.
They would take you on walks around Silk Cradle, if they had time.
If the lamb ever tried to take you back, expect a rise in difficulty from the enemies on their crusades.
They tend to visit their siblings realms often, so when they get back expect:
Camellia Flowers from Darkwood, Jewels from Anchordeep, and Mushrooms from Anura.
They truly care for you, so expect nothing less than practical perfection.

The Cultist enemy type aren't normal animals.
Atleast not anymore...
I picked up Darkest dungeon again and came across an enemy that I recognized.
Tumblr media
This is a Cultist Priest.
Look familiar?
Tumblr media
Darkest Dungeon came out before COTL and share many themes, such as cults(obviously) eldritch gods and the like, so I can assume the devs took inspiration for some of the enemies.
When it comes to the Cultists it's easy to see something isn't quite right about them, COTL's questionable anatomy aside.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's far too many eyes and somehow not enough eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And what's going on here? Is that supposed to an eye? Why is it so long? Many questions, very few answers to be found in-game. So let's look outside of it.
The faithful...
In Darkest Dungeon, the Cultist Priest are followers who's devotion to their "god" was so great they were rewarded with a new body, remade in it's image.
Tumblr media
This was once a human.
The Priest's responsibilities are to perform rituals to empower their god, something we see the COTL cultist doing when we rescue followers, and wear these robes, very similar to the one worn by Old Faith cultist, to hide their bodies. Also in Darkest Dungeon, the priests are classified as "eldritch + beast" even with their former human status.
A beast is just another way of referring to an animal and in COTL case, it's world is populated by sapient and none sapient animals. The Bishops are also quick to refer to the Lamb as a "beast" even though they're all animals so it might have a derogatory connotation or is the Bishops way of putting themselves above "mortal" animals. With a crown comes enlightenment etc.
With this in mind, I make the assumption that cultists in COTL have undergone a similar process as the ones in Darkest Dungeon. They have been changed by their worship of the Bishops. But unlike in DD, I can't be certain if it was at the will of the god being worshipped.
As we can see in COTL there are different ranks of cultists, with lowest being Scamps and the highest being Enforcers, the floating variety being classed as sorcerers. In DD the Cultist Priest are the highest ranking of their order, whereas in COTL there is an observably hierarchy amongst the robed cultists.
It might be that scamps are the first form of new converts with each the other types, Swordsman, Archers, and Bomber being specializations a scamp could take. Those with an affinity for magic become sorcerers and healers. And the oldest followers have the potential of becoming Enforcers. I say the oldest followers because Enforcers only pop up in the Domain of the Oldest Bishops, Anchordeep and SilkCradle.
The Beasts...
It could also be totally random what cultists a follower becomes without direct influence from a god, see most of the Mini Bosses. Amdusias was very clear a scamp that was transformed into a monster. Same with Hauras, who's clearly covered in the remnants of their cultist robes. It's unknown what they looked like before but it's possible they were they looked like their follower forms, minus the odd growths. But what about the "animals" enemy types that also appear in the Bishops domain?
Their existence is what makes me believe the change that happens to cultists is a side-effects of their worship, maybe even just proximity, to the Bishops, or Crowns. Like the Bishops and/or Crowns give off some sort of eldritch radiation that changes the world around them and remakes it in their image. Or the critters were drawn to the gods of their kind who chose biome conducive to their species survival. Either way, just like the Cultist, there is something not-quite-right about the beasts.
Conclusion
We don't really learn much about the Old Faith Cultists, or the critters that inhabit their doman, in-game but the designs had to be inspired from somewhere so, this is my contribution.
I wonder if we'll ever learn more about them and their motivations for joining the old faith. Did they join out of fear of death, or were they willing to join the Bishop's congregation for the power and protection they offered...?

Ideas for what the bishops’ + Narinder’s Goat Universe selves are:
Narinder - Dog (I’ve seen others say the same thing)
Leshy - Centipede/Millipede
Heket - Toad
Kallamar - Octopus (I know one of the Anchordeep mini bosses is already an octopus but shh)
Shamura - Scorpion

I find it sweet that Haborym mention they mourned Saleos when they all thought he was dead. Which makes sense since I notice that some of the minibosses in cotl leave behind remains and that all the Anchordeep ones leave behind what looks like a skull
Tumblr media
YEAH :D
I remembered some bosses left behind their "bodies" and that's were that line came from!
It's one of the inspirations for that comic!

Givin' y'all a feast of content tonight lol
Here's my design for the Lamb in my Blue Crown AU (still thinking of a name for them. I think I might either go with Lake or River.)
Might as well explain the AU while I'm at it. After all, I did say I'd wait until I posted art for the AU to talk about it.
Okay, so this has been in the works for a while and I've been putting this off because I was working on Your Side of Order, but this is the jist of the Blue Crown AU.
Basically in this AU, the Lamb grew up in Anchordeep. Their parents died when they were young, so Kallamar, who refused to believe that sacrificing an entire species was the key to sealing away Nardiner and feared the consquences of him and his siblings actions if they went through with the genocide, took the Lamb in and raised them as their own in secret. When the lamb genocides began, Kallamar helped the Lamb hide from the other bishops, however eventually the Lamb was found & prepared for execution. Just before the Lamb was decapitated, Kallamar saved them last minute and rushed them out of the sacrificial area, giving them his crown in order to teach them how to fight (and to better protect them) (in this AU, the crown allows the Lamb to swap weapons at will instead of getting one at random and the Lamb can use multiple curses) (the Lamb can swap between 3 of each). After escaping the temple, Kallamar leads the Lamb to a secret area in Anchordeep where the Lamb can create a cult to help them become stronger and gives the Lamb a mission: kill the other bishops before they can kill both the Lamb & Kallamar and then kill Nardiner.
Same storybeats as the OG story: Lamb goes into biome, beats up some mini bosses, and eventually beats up the bishops. But in this AU, the Lamb fights Nardiner a bit earlier on (after killing Leshy, Heket, and Shamura), who also sort of has their own biome thing (all the enemies are skeletal and the mini bosses are Baal, Aym, and a shadow clone of the Lamb). The fight against Nardiner is a bit tamer compared to the OG fight since Nardiner hardly knows the Lamb, but it doesn't matter 'cause ultimately the Lamb kills Nardiner.
After returning to cult grounds, Kallamar is waiting for the Lamb and is overjoyed that the mission has been completed... for a few seconds. After realizing what he just made the Lamb do (killing all their siblings and decimating their lands), Kallamar becomes overwhelmed with guilt and begs the Lamb to do one more thing for him: put him out of his misery & let him be with his siblings. The Lamb refuses, resulting in Kallamar trying to hurt himself, but after the Lamb tries to stop him, a fight against Kallamar happens. Basically the fight's almost the same as the OG game's ('cause Kallamar is so fucking hard to beat), except Kallamar has an extra phase like Nardiner's OG fight. Anyways, the Lamb beats Kallamar & Kallamar gets absolved of all his sins. He's a bit shorter now but not as small as a follower (maybe two followers tall?), and doesn't want to fight the Lamb anymore. After seeing how strong the Lamb is, Kallamar gives the Lamb a choice: follow orders and kill Kallamar, or let him live as an act of mercy. The Lamb chooses mercy, not wanting to kill the one who let them live, and Kallamar becomes the right hand squid of the Lamb.

My Husband is the God of Pestilence - chapter 5
Not very happy with this chapter, but I felt like I was wasting too much time with it. I'm looking forward to a few things next chapter tho, Kallamar will really start getting more into the god thing.
Oh yeah! I thought I should mention a few voice claims for the characters: my Kallamar is voiced by Alan Tudyk, particularly the voice he uses for Harry in Resident Alien. Shamura is voiced by Liam Nneson, I just love his Irish accent. Still trying to figure out who would voice Lilybell.
Anyway, enjoy this chapter 🩷
"Quite impressive," said Trenaty, turning over the large ruby in her hands as Lilybell glowed with pride. "You should feel blessed to recieve a gift from Lord Kallamar. In all my time here, he has never taken to anyone the way he has to you." She handed back the ruby, and Lilybell wrapped it in a spare pillowcase before placing it at the bottom of her trunk. "Make sure to clean it often, crystals are want to attract grime and barnacles."
"Do you think anyone will steal it, Trenaty?" Lilybell asked, placing her other belongings on top of the crystal so it would remain carefully hidden, closing the trunk with a thud.
"I doubt it, considering crystals grow all over Anchordeep. But I suggest you keep it secret, knowing it comes from Lord Kallamar may give it higher value, or at least others may think so."
The lamb sighed, sitting down on her bed with a big smile. "We talked for hooooours," she said, dragging out the word to really drive it home. She laid on her stomach, kicking her legs back and forth as Trenaty walked around the bed to sit beside her. "It was so nice not to have to waste away in the kitchen all day. Oh, that reminds me! Lord Kallamar said I don't have to go back to the kitchen anymore!"
Trenaty's eyes widened in surprise, and not in a good way. "Really?"
"Yeah! He said he would find another job for me. What's wrong, Trenaty? You don't look very happy..."
The starfish's eyes softened and she smiled gently, but her eyebrows were still knitted. "I'm only concerned, dear. I don't want anyone to think Lord Kallamar is showing favoritism towards you. People may not react well to that, you know."
Lilybell's good mood quickly deflated upon realizing Trenaty was right. The kitchen staff were already mad at her for shirking her duties. They glared at her as she ate her dinner, and made her do all the dishes herself. That was all before she told them she wouldn't be back. No one said goodbye, or even a "it was nice working with you".
"That's just what I need," she mumbled, letting her chin sink into the blanket. "You're the only one here who's nice to me, Trenaty. I don't have any friends here other than you."
"Don't pout, dear," the old woman stroked Lilybell's wool comfortingly. "If Lord Kallamar is going to find another job for you, perhaps you can explore the temple a little more. I've got an idea, how about you walk with me tomorrow while I work?"
Lilybell rolled onto her side, propping her head up with one hand. "You know, Trenaty, you've never actually told me what you do around here. What's your job?"
"I suppose you could call me a supervisor of sorts. I make sure everyone is doing their work and not slacking off."
"Really? I can't imagine you bossing people around," Lilybell laughed.
Trenaty just smiled. "It's not such a bad job. It can be boring at times, but at least I have full run of the temple, except for Lord Kallamar's room, of course." The starfish gave Lilybell a wink.
"Just think of all the treasures Lord Kallamar must have in his room," Lilybell said, twirling her wool around her finger. "Lots of crystals, I imagine, and probably a really big, comfy bed!"
"Maybe someday you will get to see it," Trenaty said playfully.
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"Nothing, dear."
*
Later that night, when everyone had gone to sleep, Lilybell snuck out of bed and into the courtyard. Kallamar was there waiting for her, and his face lit up as he saw her approaching. "I was afraid you had forgotten," he smiled as she ran up beside him.
"I'm sorry," she panted, grinning up at him, "I wanted to make sure everyone was asleep before I came."
Just like the night before, Kallamar spread his arms out, soaking in the lights of prayers from the statue and glowing fiercely. Lilybell watched with the same amazement, but with more excitement this time, knowing what to expect. It was over much too soon.
"That was so cool, Lord Kallamar," said Lilybell, unintentionally repeating herself from the night before.
Kallamar looked down at her fondly and held out a long, thin finger. "Let's walk, dear."
She took his finger (knowing all too well this was the first time she'd held hands with anyone other than her parents) and they walked around the statue into the courtyard, among the decorative corals placed like hedges to give the area some colour.
"I have decided what I would like you to do for me," Kallamar said quietly, as if trying not to disturb the peacefulness of the night, "I require someone to help me perform my duties at the temple. You shall be my personal assistant."
"What do I have to do?" Lilybell asked.
"Nothing intense. Simply fetch anything that I require, or ask others to do things in my place. I may also ask your opinion of certain subjects that I would not ask of the other workers. That is all."
Lilybell breathed a sigh of relief. "That sounds easy. When do I start?"
"First thing tomorrow. I will have a bedroom set up for you near my office, so you will be close by."
"My own bedroom!" She gasped excitedly, hopping beside him with joy, "oh, it'll be so nice not to be woken up all the time. The other ladies there can be pretty noisy. If someone isn't snoring, then another is talking in their sleep, or something else. It's so tiring!"
"I cannot begin to imagine."
Lilybell stopped and turned to him, holding his one big hand with her two small ones. "Thank you, Lord Kallamar. I'm so happy to have you around to help me."
Kallamar felt his face warm up as she beamed up at him, her warm hands in his cold one. He couldn't remember the last time he felt this way when another person looked at him. It didn't feel the same as when his parents congratulated him, or Shamura gently touched his shoulder reassuringly. This was something else. Something that felt good, but foreign too.
It made him nervous.
"You... you're welcome, dear," he said carefully, not wanting to hurt her feelings.
Suddenly, a familiar rumble at their feet signaled the arrival of another God, and Kallamar hurriedly rushed Lilybell behind him to avoid her being seen. A dark shadow appeared before them, and a huge purple spider, standing as tall as Kallamar, but somehow taller, rose from it, facing the temple away from them.
"Shamura!"
The spider turned towards Kallamar's voice, a little surprised, but not showing it. "Ah, there you are brother," they said quietly.
"What are you doing here? Is something wrong? I wasn't expecting you!" Kallamar tried to keep Lilybell behind him as she kept trying to peek around him curiously.
"You are always popping in to see me, so I thought a change of pace would be nice," they said, taking in the courtyard, "and I would like to see how your temple turned out. You were so excited to have it finished, yet you never invited me to see it."
"I would have preferred that you let me know beforehand, sibling," Kallamar said, irritated, "then I could have had my servants tidy up."
"That wouldn't do," said the spider, "it is better to see it in its natural state. Is that your worship idol?"
Shamura started walking towards Kallamar's statue with the squid not far behind, and Lilybell found she had to run to keep up with them. She never realized how slowly Kallamar walked just for her to walk with him. He must have felt like a snail!
"Yes, but please, sibling, can't we do this another time?" Kallamar pleaded as the reached the statue, a few barnacles and periwinkles already starting to grow on it. "I, uh, have much to attend to!"
"Surely it is not too much to ask for you to entertain your dear sibling," Shamura teased, before hearing a surprised grunt as Lilybell collided with Kallamar's cloak. They looked down and saw a small hoof disappear behind their brother, and they smiled slyly. "Ah, I see you are already entertaining. Kallamar, why don't you introduce me to the small creature you are hiding behind you?"
"I-I didn't hear anything," Kallamar warbled uselessly, feeling Lilybell clutch his cloak tightly.
Shamura didn't fall for it for a second. "Come forth, small one. Have no fear," they said gently, as if talking to an infant.
They saw the off-white wool first, then a big round eye filled with anticipation, before a grey face appeared from behind their brother. Lilybell still refused to come out from behind Kallamar, afraid of what the other god might do.
"Ah, we meet at last, little lamb," Shamura said gently, "Kallamar has told me much about you. Your name is Lilly-Billy, is it not?"
"Shamura!" Kallamar cried out in embarrassment.
"My name is Lilybell," she said cautiously.
Shamura chuckled. "My apologies. Are you enjoying Anchordeep, my dear?"
If only they knew they had opened the floodgates. "I do like it," Lilybell finally stepped out from behind Kallamar, but stayed close to him, "but it's awfully different down here. I like the warm water, and I don't even think about how I'm always wet anymore. I wish people were a little nicer, but I have Trenaty and Lord Kallamar to help me. I'm going to help Lord Kallamar from now on. I do wish I could see more beyond the temple, but it must be scary, I almost got attacked by jellyfish last night! Oh, and Lord Kallamar gave me a pretty crystal-"
"Lilybell," Kallamar interrupted, wrapping a hand around her arm, "I'm sure Lord Shamura isn't interested in such things. We mustn't waste their time."
"Don't be silly, brother," Shamura said gently. "It is important to hear what your followers have to say." They looked down at the lamb with a friendly smile. "I am glad to hear you are adapting. Do not fret about the others. In time, you shall have many dear companions."
Lilybell looked down at her feet bashfully. "Thank you, Lord Shamura," she said.
Kallamar watched the exchange curiously. He assumed Shamura would be disappointed to see him talking so casually with a follower. In all his years of training, Shamura insisted followers were simply pawns to be used for your own gain, and it was useless to get attached to them, because even if they weren't sacrificed, they would die quickly, as mortals tend to do. Why was Shamura being so kind to Lilybell if followers were beneath them? There must have been a good reason. Shamura always acted with reason and always thought before they spoke.
"A personal assistant? Intriguing," Shamura said, listening to Lilybell ramble on. "That will be good for Kallamar. I'm sure he is very thankful for your services."
"I'm thankful for Lord Kallamar," said Lilybell, trying to stifle a yawn and failing. "He... he's always looking after me." She stretched and yawned again, feeling the day catching up with her.
"I dismiss you, small one. Rest and approach your new position with vigor. Good night."
"Good night, Lord Shamura. Good night, Lord Kallamar." Lilybell turned to Kallamar and wrapped her arms around him as best she could (which was not at all, given their size difference) and hobbled off to bed. Kallamar grimaced at the display of affection, not knowing how Shamura would react. Would they be upset?
"Interesting little thing," Shamura said when she finally disabled from view.
"I'm sorry about her, Shamura," Kallamar said hurriedly, "I know you told me not to get attached to my followers, and I tried but, I don't know, she just keeps talking, and you told me to keep her close to me, and..." he shrugged, finally running out of excuses, unable to look his sibling in the face.
Shamura looked surprised, but after a moment's thought, their face softened, and they put a hand on their brother's shoulder. "You have nothing to apologize for, brother. I did tell you these things in the hopes of keeping your heart safe. It is a terrible thing to lose a loved one and to keep on living. It is not something I would wish on my worst enemy."
"You have experience with this, sibling?" Kallamar asked.
"Yes. I have witnessed gods throw their existence away for the sake of a loved one. I have seen firsthand the irreparable damage such love can do. It is a terrible thing."
"But... what if there was a way to make a mortal... immortal?"
Shamura's face turned grave. "I know of what you speak. But it isn't right to go against nature, Kallamar. Let the mortals die, and the gods live. Do not upset the balance. Do not go to them."
That was it, then. The decision made for him. Do not associate with that otherworldly person.
Kallamar cleared his throat and changed the subject. "I am holding my first sermon tomorrow, sibling. May I ask that you attend and give your support?"
Glad that things were settled, Shamura stood back and smiled. "Of course, brother, if it would please you."
