Interview: An Cafe × hévn Magazine vol.13 nº107 │Part #4

After 9 years, An Cafe is back on the cover of hévn magazine! The limited edition of issue 107 brings the members of An Cafe, who celebrate in 2023, the 20th anniversary of the beginning of activities! The magazine was released on September 30, 2022 and all copies have been sold (we do not know the number of copies that were produced). Veteran Visual-kei band Dolly is on the back cover. We bring here the translation of the magazine's main interview!

-How was traveling to the event? Miku: We went separately, but I wanted to soak in the twilight, so I stayed one more night and went back to Tokyo the day after the other members. I have 2 nights and 3 days.

-The day before, you posted a photo with Teruki-san on Twitter. Miku: The day before, while checking out the place, I went to the aquarium with Teruki. Also, I wanted to take advantage of hotel time.

-How do you spend your precious time? Miku: The day before, acquaintances invited me to dinner, but I wanted time to think about An Cafe, so after arriving at the hotel, I sat in my room for 4 hours and just thought about the concert the next day. So I left after 4 hours (laughs). Time goes by so fast so I want to savor it.

-And in a short time, January 2023 will mark the 20th anniversary of An Cafe. Teruki: Regarding the 20th anniversary, I think a lot of people heard us before the 20th anniversary, 10 years ago, 5 years ago, and before the hiatus. As Kanon-san said, after 5 or 10 years, fans' lives will be different. As you go through life, even if you are happy, there are times when things go wrong. For example, when I was bitter, I innocently liked fun things, but when I became an adult, the number of important things increased and the things I carried on my back also increased. In the midst of it all, I think there's also a feeling that I want to go back to the time when I listened to An Cafe 10 or 15 years ago, when I was laughing innocently with my shoulders relaxed. I hope our fans forget about their daily lives and return to the innocent feelings they had back then when listening to our music, I wonder if the 20th anniversary live has that kind of meaning.

-The concerts on January 5th and 6th will be very important for everyone, as everyone is looking forward to them. Teruki: Everyone has their own way of having fun, but these two days, we want them to have fun in a way that brings them back to what they were before, and we want to do that too. For those of you who have been exposed to An Cafe recently, I hope you can try An Cafe for just one day, and I definitely want you to check it out. And on the day of our 20th anniversary, for the five of us, the band that was stopped and we will make An Cafe live again, take the stage on the 5th, in that sense, I think it will be an important day. Miku-kun was alone as An Cafe, and we were able to get together again for the event, and I think everyone really enjoyed the concert in Osaka. I could feel the tension, but I could also feel how happy everyone was. We were apart for a while, but I think it's a really good connection that we can meet again like this. Thanks to the members, fans and staff. Even the members who hadn't been on stage for a while didn't feel lost at the June live, more than anything else, the positivity of the 5 members made the power of this band so great. I expect something like that from the 20th anniversary show. It gives us something strong, something positive, An Cafe exists within us, and it would be nice if we could continue to be this kind of band because of the love from the members and the fans.

-It's good to see a band like that. I think everyone's current feelings towards An Cafe will be conveyed on stage in January. Please let us know how excited you are about this show. Yuuki: It's a bit difficult, but for those who came to see it, I'd like to make a live that people can say "That was fun" after watching the show. I just want to get stronger. I gave up on my own and during that time I made my fans wait for several years without leaving anything to make it up to them, I would like to do something in those two days so that I can make it up to them. I want to make memories.

-And you Kanon? Kanon: It seems like there's a lot of time, but without you realizing it, in the blink of an eye it will be January. Since the schedule has already been decided, it would be nice if you can spend the time feeling excited leading up to the day of the event. I hope this question lifts everyone's spirits. I think there are people who will meet for the first time in a long time, like a class reunion, or even some fans in the same land who will meet again, so I hope people can enjoy things like that through An Cafe, which they weren't involved in. . We won't be able to participate in the reunion on the same ground as the fans who said "Ah, it's been a long time!" (laughs) I hope we can enjoy them even from outside now. Let's enjoy not only the live performance, but also the other parts besides the main part of the show!

-And you, takuya? takuya: Instead of thinking about the set list, we have to rehearse first!

-This time, there are many songs, so rehearsing is important. takuya: But I want to enjoy the live with an empty head. I think each of the cafekkos that come have their own feelings, I hope they can create fun and lasting memories.

-And you Miku? Miku: I compare a presentation live on a date. Although there are several bands, I want to make sure I don't lose to your boyfriend and I want to make the show a source of nourishment for myself as well. No matter what scene I do, I want to be a bestseller, practice well and not make mistakes, as takuya said, I want to be able to enjoy the moment with an empty head. We also thought it would be nice if we could savor the time in the studio and the time before we go on stage. -The surprise of 20 years, the weight is incredible. Miku: I'm not aware of that and I don't even feel like a veteran band. When I was little, I thought it was amazing to be an adult, but even when I became an adult, I was still a child at heart, and I think everyone acts with the thought that they have to act like an adult after accumulating experiences. Without thinking about the 20th anniversary, I want everyone to appreciate it with a pure heart. -Finally, send a message to Cafekko. Miku: All I can say is thanks for waiting. I can't move the band alone, and without Michiru-san, hévn-san and all the people involved, I don't think I could have made this comeback. I am filled with gratitude that everyone is by my side. And please look forward to January 5th and 6th. takuya: Since the bond was born through An Cafe, I would like to continue to value the members, staff and Cafekko who were involved. To repay these important people, I would like to do my best every day to do a good live on January 5th and 6th. Kanon: Just for this day, I want everyone, including us, to be kids again and have a lot of fun, so let's play together. Yuuki: I'm really happy to be able to perform live on January 5th and 6th. I think it's the same for fans who are having fun, so we'll do our best to entertain everyone, and when fans are having fun, we feel happy too, so let's share our happiness with each other. Because of everyone who supported us, we want to support you again. I would be happy if we could support each other in the future, so I look forward to working with you. Teruki: It's like everyone said, but then again, a band can't be made by one person, and a band can be made by the members, and besides, when it comes to live performances, it's only the band that can't do that, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the members and staff who wanted to move An Cafe and the cafekkos who waited for me, and express my regret that I cannot continue in 2019, I will do my best to play the drums so that the audience go home with the biggest smile on their face, typical of An Cafe. I have a plan to start myself off with 2, one for personal/random shit so I don't feel so confined, and one focused on my plushies!! Not every one of my plushies will get a page but I will dedicate a page to whoever inspires me in a particular moment. I may not share every page right away. But if I fill in an entire journal I will try to show the finished results of what I created!
