Hello! I’m Reed.Today is Day 1 of IG Quilt Fest and it’s all about introductions. You can see that I like to play with photo apps. I am a quilt designer from Florida and my company is Blue Bear Quilts. I was an attorney for 35 years before becoming a quilt designer. I have been quilting for over 20 years. I primarily design modern traditional quilt patterns. I have bee designing more patterns with appliqué lately and really enjoying it. My first fabric line with QT Fabrics, called Coco Chic, should be arriving in shops any day now. I look forward to sharing things with you this month and seeing what you all have to share. Inspired by @amyscreativeside to celebrate the first day of #nationalquiltingmonth with a little introduction! I'm Janae Michelle Fennel, manager and head educator of @kingdomsewing818. My love of quilting all began with a help wanted ad. As some of you may know, before coming to #Kingdomsewing I had never touched a sewing machine. I had always wanted to learn to sew and coming to Kingdom gave me so much more than I could have ever imagined. Getting a crash course in all things sewing was HUGE challenge for me. Like learning a new language in a new country; with all my efforts, I would still continually feel lost. What kept me encouraged was the incredible community that our quilters welcomed me into. Quilters would constantly dish out more tips, video suggestions, tutorials, patterns and just general support. They went out of their way to make me feel included and showed me just a little bit of what quilting was all about. By the time I actually began making quilts and going to quilt shows I was hooked not only on the artform of quilting but the stories our quilters sewed in the seams. Everyday I look forward to learning more, teaching more and getting more people the gift of quilting. This is my sewing machine. Second day of #igquiltfest with @amyscreativeside hosting and setting the agenda. . This is my beautiful baby! I've had her three years from new. Before that I had my mums 70s singer, which I used until I spent more time ripping out stitches than sewing them! Then I made the decision to spend a good amount of money on a new machine, it was the best decision I ever made. I spent as much as I could from my savings and I have never regretted it😁. I am looking lovingly at the other monster throaty machines, and one day I might trade up, but if this is my forever machine I will be quite content with that.❤️ . . #sewing #sewingmachine #igquiltfest #gettingtoknowyou #selfcompassionatesewing

#besttipever is today's prompt from @amyscreativeside for the #IGQuiltFest . I could not decide what to share with you all ... setting seams, using a stiletto, not worrying about perfection, doing you - all fantastic tips but ones you've probably been seeing all day. I'll share with a little secret on how I get unique quilts. Whenever I buy a line of fabric ... no matter how much I love it as a group ... I wrap it up individually on @polarnotions boards and put it in my stash by color. Always by color - never by line. If there are fabrics that read the same color I try to mix them into my stash apart from each other. Now - when I'm picking fabrics for a project I have to put them together - not a designer - me. I never realized until I started putting my quilts into shows just how odd my color/pattern/texture combinations are ... they are unique and choosing my own fabrics is one of my favorite parts of quilting. #freerangequilter #uniquequilts
