Inspired by @amyscreativeside to celebrate the first day of #nationalquiltingmonth with a little introduction! I'm Janae Michelle Fennel, manager and head educator of @kingdomsewing818. My love of quilting all began with a help wanted ad. As some of you may know, before coming to #Kingdomsewing I had never touched a sewing machine. I had always wanted to learn to sew and coming to Kingdom gave me so much more than I could have ever imagined. Getting a crash course in all things sewing was HUGE challenge for me. Like learning a new language in a new country; with all my efforts, I would still continually feel lost. What kept me encouraged was the incredible community that our quilters welcomed me into. Quilters would constantly dish out more tips, video suggestions, tutorials, patterns and just general support. They went out of their way to make me feel included and showed me just a little bit of what quilting was all about. By the time I actually began making quilts and going to quilt shows I was hooked not only on the artform of quilting but the stories our quilters sewed in the seams. Everyday I look forward to learning more, teaching more and getting more people the gift of quilting. Instead of just getting a job, I got a whole new way of life and I am so grateful to the marvelous ladies and gentlemen in our #quilting and #sewing community! #igquiltfest2020 #igquiltfest2020day1 #kingdomsewing818 (at Kingdom Sewing and Vacuum Northridge) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9OOSm6HhCf/?igshid=9yy5ezx7rlv5

Another fun find at the #IllinoisStateMuseum #library in celebration of #NationalQuiltingMonth . One important thing #quilt historians look for are fabric swatches that have documentation showing the fabric and when and where it was purchased. . This journal contains detailed notes of fabric purchased, how much, which store, and when. It's a fascinating glimpse into the history of fabric and clothing from many decades ago. . #quilthistory #quilting #quilters #quiltresearch http://ift.tt/2oP0Wut

March is #NationalQuiltingMonth. Did you know the #IllinoisStateMuseum has an impressive collection of #quilts? We've also had a number of quilt-related books and ephemera donated to the ISM #library. . Pictured is a scrapbook of newspaper clippings that was donated to the Museum library. The collector used an old book to paste her favorite quilt blocks that she found in the newspaper. She also kept a meticulous list of the treasures inside. . Tucked inside was also an old catalog from the #LadiesArtCompany. This one is the revised 14th ed. from sometime in the early 1900s. . Quilt historians find value in things some people may not even look at twice. But consider how easily history can be lost when we toss out old newspaper clippings, patterns, and other things you might find in a random box in the back of grandma's closet. . #quilting #quilters #quiltsofinstagram #museumcollection #quilthistory #quiltstories http://ift.tt/2F3SZvl

We are sorry to announce that #KingdomsRoyalMarket and #nationalquiltingmonth #QuiltWalk has been postponed until further notice. As much as we were all looking forward to coming together and celebrating with the #quiltingcommunity, we have to make sure that everyone in our community feels and stays safe. We will keep everyone posted on when we will be rescheduling. Any #Vendors who have already paid they're booth fees will be refunded! STAY SAFE EVERYONE! Today's #igquiltfestday12 is "pressing matters" so I get a chance to share a bit of my home workspace and my @rowentausa #freestyleiron. This iron was my first big #sewing purchase from the shop and I'm so happy with it! It's a cordless model (it has a standard corded base that you pop the iron on and off of), heats up fast and hold its heat, I love it! #Kingdomsewing818 #nationalquiltingmonth #quilting #sewing #cordlessiron (at Kingdom Sewing and Vacuum Northridge) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9qavQzHRaW/?igshid=pj9dvnu1n3ux

👉👉👉swipe 📸 #igquiltfest2020day3 calls for a "pre-Instagram" finished piece what better then my first finished quilt ever!? When I first started sewing the one thing I was terrified to do was make a quilt 🙈 It was one thing to make my one little projects and patterns but quilts had RULES and MATH 😣 Christmas was coming and I really wanted to make a friend's daughter her first quilt so I figured I would take the plunge with a #jellyrollrace #quilt. I learned two things making this quilt 1. Sewing straight is harder than it looks and 2. I really COULD make make a quilt! I had to sew seams multiple times, ripped seams, sewed things on backwards, and had a HELL of a time with the binding but in the end in did it! But the most important thing I learned from my first quilting project is the indescribable feeling of giving a gift that would be kept and cherished for a lifetime. After this first quilt I was hooked! What was your first quilt process like? #Kingdomsewing818 #igquiltfest2020 #nationalquiltingmonth (at Kingdom Sewing and Vacuum Northridge) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9S_LVrHxjS/?igshid=1b53ivb7p5odn
