Global Crafts: Jordanian Mosaic Art

I am very blessed to work in a job where one of the benefits of my position is getting to travel around the world visiting our global office locations.  It has allowed me to see countries – even entire continents – that I wouldn’t have been able to otherwise at this point in my life, and I’ve met some of the most amazing people.

I’ve also had the privilege of being the heartland of various fantastic crafting types from various corners of the globe.

Having just gotten back from visits to Amman, Jordan and Istanbul, Turkey, I am excited to break up my usual blog posts with a two-part series on Jordanian mosaics and Turkish rugs.

Happy to be back!

I just got back from a two-week trip to Amman, Jordan and Istanbul, Turkey and had the most amazing time. I got to see some truly world-class sights (including a New Wonder of the World in Petra), eat delicious local food, *and* explore traditional crafts in each location!

Look forward to two upcoming articles on Jordanian mosaics and Turkish rugs!

For five days in a row, there have been large protests outside the Israeli embassy in Amman, Jordan calling for an end of agreements between the Jordanian government and Israel and the US due to Israel's ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Many activists have been arrested by Jordanian security.

Hashemi Shamali Open Air Museum Amman Jordan

Touring the Hashemi Shamali Open Air Museum was fascinating on many levels. The east Amman neighborhood that was military housing in the 1970s now exhibits 28 murals painted by artists to give the urban landscape more interest and color. The neighborhood is home to a community of Palestinian, Syrian, Armenian, and Iraqi refugees, and decidedly different than other areas of Amman I’ve explored.…
