Students hunting down the social media of their teachers in the Les Mis Teachers!AU, and finding:
Combeferre's public Instagram, where he posts and IDs all the insects and animals he sees. Sometimes he uploads links to YouTube videos and news articles for his students who are following him to read. He also has a TikTok where he uploads science experiments with Joly.
Courfeyrac’s private Instagram, where he only accepts students if they've long graduated. His IG stories are loud clips of him in the club, so blurry you can't see what's going on. His IG posts are of him with his friends, as well as screenshots of himself roasting stupid people on r/politics.
Feuilly's public Instagram and Twitter, all of which repost or retweet journal publications and news articles written by his friends in the field. Once in a while he posts a piece of woodwork he's made, and Enjolras is always the first to like and comment a 👍.
Enjolras' public Instagram, which has no profile picture, no description, and only the occasional post of current news affairs with a loooong caption sharing his thoughts. One day a student finds his Twitter, which is entirely in Korean, where it's also 90% of him sharing about news that may have gone under the radar (esp. things happening in Korea/Asia in general) and then 10% of him asking the void for dating advice. No one replies to those 💔.
Bahorel's public TikTok, where he has 3 workout videos and 48 duets of him arguing with people on bad history takes. Sometimes he goes on TikTok lives with Grantaire and they talk about bullshit for 3 hours straight.
Jehan's Tumblr, which is solely dedicated to Romantic literature. They invite students to send them asks and they answer them pretty often, usually about book/show recommendations, further readings, and opinions on poets and playwrights. Every so often an anon will send a scathing ask roasting Jehan's taste, and every time it's Bahorel.
Bossuet's private Instagram, where he only allows students who've graduated to follow. Except the app keeps glitching and his students keep getting in, so every day he has to softblock them again. His profile is pretty simple though, just pictures of him and his friends, his food, yearly graduation photos with his students etc. Alas, all of them have EXTREMELY horrendous IG filters on them. He likes it, okay?!
Joly's Twitter, where he retweets mostly cute/funny animal tweets, interspersed with the occasional Twitter thread where he goes on long tangents debunking myths about historical illnesses like the black plague, the cholera epidemic etc. He's currently curating one about COVID in his drafts. It's 80 tweets long.
Grantaire's public Instagram, which has about 1,320 posts because he posts about EVERYTHING. His breakfast, a nice cloud, a store having a clearance sale (in which he will tag his friends and caption "Shall we go?") etc. He treats IG like a group chat with all his 289 followers. A lot of pictures of his friends too. Whenever his students win an award or competition he posts about them as well, just with a huge censor bar to conceal their identity. He uses up all 10 slots for the IG carousel post, with the 10th picture always being a sneaky photo taken of Enjolras that day.
Bonus:
Marius' Twitter, except it took forever to confirm it was Marius because his tweets are in four entirely different languages. The students only figured it out once they saw a Twitter thread where Enjolras and Marius were debating with each other in Korean.
Éponine's TikTok, where it only has one video thus far, and its her sending off Gavroche on his first day of school. She uses her account to roast Combeferre’s and Joly’s science experiments, as well as bully Bahorel and Grantaire on their TikTok lives.
Cosette's public Instagram, which is a pretty popular bullet journaling account. Very aesthetic; students follow her to get some decor inspo and study tips. Her IG stories are pictures with Valjean and Fantine captioned "brunch with my favourite people!! đŸ’«đŸ’—" or blurry pictures of Enjolras coming out of his bedroom at 2pm on Saturday captioned "Bigfoot sighting #39"

Given how often the 'Bonus' interludes feel like they contain some pretty vital plot-relevant material, it's nice when we have one that is genuinely a bonus and that's it, like this Lung Interlude for 22.y

i picked up a pencil after a year because i need you to visualize this enjolras headcanon i have
it ties into my argentinian!grantaire hc (or, Rgento, if you will). so! enjolras never found coffee to be an effective stimulant, caffeine never did much for him, but then came grantaire, who introduced them all to the wonder that is el mate (a bitter, hot drink made from plant, a bit like tea, except not really, that also happens to be a great stimulant). some took to it, some didn't, it's a bit of an acquired taste, but enjolras? enjolras latched onto it like a lifeline because not only is it a stimulant thanks to its caffeine-like component, but the actual act of drinking it keeps him sufficiently entertained while studying and working, so now he's never seen without his mate kit

just saw a group of people saying the reason amy and rouge aren't in movie 3 despite being vital to sa2's plot is because. the movie. isn't an sa2 adaptation. okay first off not a valid reason for the writers they should still be there. secondly uh. girlies do u know what an adaptation is
#'yeah this movie that loosely recaps sonic adventure 2's plot and features most of its characters isn't an adaptation of sonic adventure 2'#like HUH?????#their reasoning is that the 1st and 2nd movies weren't adapting anything and like.#ok movie 1 i get. that was setting up the wolrd and status quo. wasn't an adaptation of anything. that's valid#but?? movie 2 WAS an adaptation?? it just merged sonic 2 and sonic 3&k together but it WAS an adaptation of the genesis games#like. it was the story of how sonic met tails and knuckles. it features the chaos emeralds and angel island and super sonic#that. WAS an adaptation besties. whuh#loose adaptations are still fukcing adaptations!!!! they're still telling the same story!!!#like it or not sonic movie 3 IS taking most of its plot and characters and themes from sa2.#it's the story of shadow's creation. it has eggman waking him up and gun dealing w the consequences of what happened on the ark 50 years ag#it features gerald and maria and shadow's grief over losing her and sonic being dragged into this conflict. it's just sa2 again mate#and even if it WASN'T. why aren't amy and rouge there. it's not like you couldn't tell the movie if they were.#there's no fucking reason for them to be missing. they're some of the most important and interesting characters in the franchise#they SHOULD be there. they should be in the film#idc how much you like the scu stop defending the films when people bring up the misogyny in its writing. fuck#and like. amy and rouge ARE vital to sa2's plot. and they're definitely vital to other games they'll probably adapt so.#what's their plan when they do cd. or 06. or heroes. or ANYTHING that involves the female sonic characters#they can't do cd or introduce metal and NOT do amy. they couldn't do heroes and not do rouge. they couldn't do 06 without blaze. etc#i'm gonna fucking lose my MIND i swear to god. fuck these films man#.txt files

read a post about if the doctor was a vampire and got snacks from friends. just a bite. and uhh a little horrified because proportionately they’d probably need like 1L of blood at LEAST to be full. And that’s like 25~30% already. So say a snack. But Rory would apparently draw blood for 11 using a needle, and that’s alright, that’s only 5 ml or 10 ml, at most 20. That’s a reasonable snack, if you were to give that away.
It doesn’t dull the dread of if they were to really drink. That’s your strength. Also
the puncture wound needs to heal. Bruises. Anemia. Drained. Unstoppered.

The National Geographic Found The Best Way To Inspire the Next Generation of Photographers
When one talks about exploring unchartered terrains around the world, the first name that comes to mind is National Geographic. The organization and its subsidiary magazine have visited far-flung places and countries people can’t really pronounce, and they have brought visual narratives that many of us can only imagine in our dreams. It now seems that for those who have been wishing to experience

A reef that has been degraded—whether by coral bleaching or disease—can’t support the same diversity of species and has a much quieter, less rich soundscape.
But new research from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution shows that sound could potentially be a vital tool in the effort to restore coral reefs.
A healthy coral reef is noisy, full of the croaks, purrs, and grunts of various fishes and the crackling of snapping shrimp. Scientists believe that coral larvae use this symphony of sounds to help them determine where they should live and grow.
So, replaying healthy reef sounds can encourage new life in damaged or degraded reefs.
In a paper published last week in Royal Society Open Science, the Woods Hole researchers showed that broadcasting the soundscape of a healthy reef caused coral larvae to settle at significantly higher rates—up to seven times more often.
“What we’re showing is that you can actively induce coral settlement by playing sounds,” said Nadùge Aoki, a doctoral candidate at WHOI and first author on the paper.
“You can go to a reef that is degraded in some way and add in the sounds of biological activity from a healthy reef, potentially helping this really important step in the coral life cycle.”
Corals are immobile as adults, so the larval stage is their only opportunity to select a good habitat. They swim or drift with the currents, seeking the right conditions to settle out of the water column and affix themselves to the seabed. Previous research has shown that chemical and light cues can influence that decision, but Aoki and her colleagues demonstrate that the soundscape also plays a major role in where corals settle.
The researchers ran the same experiment twice in the U.S. Virgin Islands in 2022. They collected larvae from Porites astreoides, a hardy species commonly known as mustard hill coral thanks to its lumpy shape and yellow color and distributed them in cups at three reefs along the southern coast of St. John. One of those reefs, Tektite, is relatively healthy. The other two, Cocoloba and Salt Pond, are more degraded with sparse coral cover and fewer fish.
At Salt Pond, Aoki and her colleagues installed an underwater speaker system and placed cups of larvae at distances of one, five, 10, and 30 meters from the speakers. They broadcast healthy reef sounds – recorded at Tektite in 2013 – for three nights. They set up similar installations at the other two reefs but didn’t play any sounds.
When they collected the cups, the researchers found that significantly more coral larvae had settled in the cups at Salt Pond than the other two reefs. On average, coral larvae settled at rates 1.7 times (and up to 7x) higher with the enriched sound environment.
The highest settlement rates were at five meters from the speakers, but even the cups placed 30 meters away had more larvae settling to the bottom than at Cocoloba and Tektite.
“The fact that settlement is consistently decreasing with distance from the speaker, when all else is kept constant, is particularly important because it shows that these changes are due to the added sound and not other factors,” said Aran Mooney, a marine biologist at WHOI and lead author on the paper.
“This gives us a new tool in the toolbox for potentially rebuilding a reef.”
Adding the audio is a process that would be relatively simple to implement, too.
“Replicating an acoustic environment is actually quite easy compared to replicating the reef chemical and microbial cues which also play a role in where corals choose to settle,” said Amy Apprill, a microbial ecologist at WHOI and a co-author on the paper.
“It appears to be one of the most scalable tools that can be applied to rebuild reefs, so we’re really excited about that potential.”"
