Legal monogamy will prevent the transformation of gynocentrism into misandry. I propose that we remove marriage custom from the honour bound system of tradition and duty and subject it to clear and precise positive law that is aligned with the principles of natural justice. In other words, we update the institution of (monogamous) marriage from a cultural one into a legal one. Both men and women should be free to decide for themselves if they wish to parent. Currently, because of cultural expectations, only women have this privilege which, in fact, should be a human right, grounded in legal statute, enjoyed by both men and women. This apparent cultural bias against men, which we can call gynocentrism, is, in fact, rooted in evolutionary biology. It is ultimately a biological bias that manifests nowadays as a cultural bias. #AmericanPsychologicalAssociation asserts that there is no causal link between abortion and depression(which is ridiculous anyway, because virtually no social science research can ever assert causation. But that’s a different TED Talk). And a recent talk in Ireland by Dr. Lucy Johnstone of the British Psychological Society actually recommended abortion as a treatment for the trauma of unwanted pregnancy. (Because the British have always had the best interests of the Irish people in mind….)

Sadly, 21 yo Jade Rees had a very different experience. After a tough breakup, she decided to terminate her pregnancy at 4months. Her suicide note explained that her decision to celebrate her right to choose women’s health care left her “upset and distressed.” She detailed how the abortion exacerbated her long struggle with depression and an eating d/o. Grieving and alone, she hung herself while listening to Ed Sheeran’s song “Small Bump.”  She leaves behind a 2yo she felt that she was unworthy to raise.

If the psychological establishment respected science and basic compassion instead of ideology, someone might have suggested to Ms. Rees that some people truly do regret their abortions and that abortion can, for some, make difficult circumstances even more painful to bear. Unfortunately, because the only message that women like Ms. Rees hear is that they have only cause for celebration, or at least relief, after their abortion, women who experience emotional pain following termination are made to feel crazy. Women like Ms. Rees end up being gaslighted by the very clinicians who should be there to hold her hand through her pain.

As reported by #NBCNews #MeekMill was recently denied bail because Judge Genece Brinkley ruled that the rapper is "a danger to the community." His attorney defended his client stating in a statement to #NBC that, "he has never missed any court dates, and poses absolutely no threat to the community making him an ideal candidate for bail, a conclusion the District Attorney did not oppose." ----------------------------------------------------------------- Although both the probation officer and a prosecutor recommended NO jail time, #MeekMill was sentenced to 2-4 years in state prison for a probation violation from a 2008 gun conviction. Besides the obvious debate around whether the jail time is fair based on his probation violation contrasted with the charity, good works, and abundance of fans who look to him as a a role model, his lawyers also expressed concern about his #mentalstate ------------------------------------------------------------------ His lawyers were concerned for good reason because Meek Mill and tens of thousands of prisoners, some of which who have only committed petty offenses, have been subject to #solitaryconfinement. According to the #AmericanPsychologicalAssociation the period of confinement aka the amount of time prisoners are kept in #solitary hss begun to trend upwards over the years. They are now confined for years at a time! Just to paint a picture, inmates spend YEARS locked in a smaill cell for 23 to 24 hours a day. Craig Haney, a social psychologist, said that ANY #human deprived of #normal human interaction are more likely to suffer from #mentalhealth issues from #anxiety to #paranoia.
