Thumb pricker ~ In #americanfolkloricwitchcraft we choose the Manx term Shelg for this rather bloodthirsty little #burrin blade. It's probably more accurate to call it by it's Latin make, Lancet, but my ex and I felt Witchier at the time using obscure Celtic sounding words. 馃. "By the pricking of my thumbs ...." All oaths in our tradition are made on our blood, and so each of us (in theory) has a blade that we use for drawing that blood. A red blade. A sacrificial blade. It is one of the three blades we consider sacred. Red, black, and white. LOTS of important things show up for us in red, black, and white. ALL the important things. Mine is marked with a Stang symbol on the sides, and the top has three drops that represent blood (and wisdom). #witchtools #witchesofinstagram #witchcraft #witchery #witchythings #bloodmagic

I was 3 months pregnant with my daughter (my oldest child) when I dedicated to the coven/tradition I was brought up in. My coven was present at the births of both my children, with my HPS being my doula and my coven sister as her assistant. Both my babes had Witching ceremonies when they were a year old. I recall many rituals with them as infants, sleeping on my chest in their carriers. The kids of the coven have always figured into our magic, both in my original trad and in #americanfolkloricwitchcraft. To some rituals, they were welcome. Some were not appropriate for kids, and so we made arrangements for them. Within AFW, children of corded members are allows to take the green cord at the Age of Reason, the red adoption cord at the Age of Puberty, and the triple cord of a fully raised witch at the Age of Majority. My oldest was 11 when she took the red, and she was the first corded member of AFW aside from me and my ex wife Natalie (the founders). She turns 18 in two months. She won't be ready on her birthday to undergo initiation, but she is actively dedicated to the pursuit of that initiation. My son is 14 and took the green cord when he was 11. He hasn't officially asked to take the red, and we don't push. The choice to be a witch, to be blood bound as family to the coven had to come from the individual. At their Witchings, I made sacred vows to let them choose their own paths, giving them access to my own. I've done my best to honor those vows. How are children incorporated into your trad, if at all? Is there a place for youth in your Craft? #witchesofinstagram #witchcraft #traditionalwitchcraft #americanfolkloricwitchcraft #witchcraftwednesday #familytrad #famtrad

Do you remember the movie Michael, where John Travolta plays the eponymous #archangel ? Do you recall that in the movie all the women smell something different when he's near? Cookies, brownies, cake. That's how my #angelwater is. Different people smell different things they love, from grandma's coffee to spice cake to molasses. It's the #angelica root in it that links this traditional #conjureformula to your own Angels. Of course, it also has #myrtle and some traditional #venus ingredients that spark love and joy. This medieval recipe was also called #waterofvenus for that reason, and used as both a perfume and a face toner for beauty. I like to use it when I'm communicating with my #holyguardianangel. What do you use it for? Available in the etsy shop. #witchesofinstagram #witchcraft #traditionalwitchcraft #americanfolkloricwitchcraft

A little history of #bladeandbroom, for those who are curious. The shop just sprung up on IG, but I've been in business since 2008 -- and *actively* in magical trade since 2011. I've been a practicing #witch since 1997, and I'm a co-founder of the #americanfolkloricwitchcraft tradition, which is the primary magical influence behind the shop. The shop was started and has always been primarily run by me ( @laureleiblack ) though Natalie, my ex wife was also heavily involved from 2012 to 2014, designing almost all of the original product labels, the first novenas, the shop's logos, and putting together the first of our #bospages. I had taken over design duties, adding to the shop's impressive #bos library, adding new candles, and contuining the work we have been known for. What are we best known for? Our #bookofshadows pages are our best selling items, to date (we have over 500 now), but we also have a reputation for high quality #ritualrobes and #conjureoils as well as #flyingointment. Less widely known are the #spiritconjure and #magicallifecoaching services we offer. (They might be less known to the public, but they are no less potent. We only take on a handful of these clients at any given time. ) Locally, I also have a reputation as an accurate and insightful #psychicreader. Why do I say "we" so much when talking about the shop? I work with spirits who are ever present. It feels both egotistical and inaccurate to say me and I, when they guide the work. #spirittribe #spiritworker #spiritguides (at Blade and Broom Botanica)

I haven't sold this Lucifer candle in the shop before, but I'm getting ready to post it. I have, however offered it at festivals and in other folks' brick and mortar shops. It always sells out quickly. Like ... Super fast. It's a gorgeous, rich design, going beyond the angelic image and name. Www.bladeandbroom.etsy.com Would you like a #devotionalcandle for a particle God, Goddess, or spirit? It's important to keep your herbs in rotation so you're always using the best quality ingredients in your products. At #bladeandbroom, Laurelei makes #flyingointment, #conjureoils, #incense, and other traditional formulas from our herbs. She also works her #herbalmagic on #healing #teas, #salves, # syrups and more. Now in the etsy shop, all loose herbs are 25% off. Working on #poppets today at #bladeandbroom. Sometimes called #voodoodolls by folks who don't know the long cross cultural use of #dollies in #magick, our super cute gingerbread figure #spelldolls pack a potent punch. Each one is a #ooakdoll, and features a pocket for you to include personal items related to your target. We also include directions and suggestions for each doll, along with a pin for directing your energy and intention.
