It starts with a phone call in the middle of the night, Amelia panicking so much that Gregory can't understand her, at least until she says "Greg, I'm pregnant!" It's not his, he knows that because he's gay and she's gay and she has a wonderful girlfriend named Dinah that she loves, but some small part of him wants to ask if it is anyway. He slips out of the party he was planning on getting so high at that he forgot everything except the taste of some dude's mouth on his own, and he drives over to Amelia's place to talk her down. She's pregnant, the test on her bathroom counter confirms it, and she doesn't know what to do, because she can't be pregnant, she and Dinah have been so careful with condoms and birth control, but there was that one time during Pride where they maybe hadn't been so careful, Dinah glowing from being around so many trans people just like her, and then, two months later, Amelia's pregnant. "What's the plan?" he asks, sitting on the bathroom tile with her as she sniffles. "Do you need a ride to a clinic or to Babies R Us?" "I want to keep it," she says, "but my parents will not accept that my trans girlfriend knocked me up, not if I want to keep my inheritance. They're okay with her being a woman, but not that she wasn't born a woman, so - I don't know what I'm going to do." "Well, what if we said it was mine?" Gregory offers. They've joked for so long that they might as well just get married to each other to make it easier on their families. "We say that we've been dating quietly for a while, and we're expecting a child so we're going to get married. Our parents would die of happiness, we get them off our backs, we can have Dinah live with us, and we can have the family we've always wanted, where we get to choose our own happiness." "Greg, that's -" "Genius," he says. "Insane is what I was going to say." "Think about it, Ames. Our parents would be thrilled. We could get a house big enough for the four of us, Dinah could move in, and this kid would be so loved. So loved. They could be or do or love whoever they want, and they'd never have to grow up like we did, like Dinah did." They announce their engagement and their wedding plans, a small ceremony hosted at the Sheffield's mansion with just their family and a few close friends, a few weeks later, before Amelia starts to show. They find a house that's suitable, and with both of their trust funds, it's the easiest choice they've ever made, and when their daughter is born, she is given the Gerwitz name. Charlotte Frances Sheffield Gerwitz is born on a damp March afternoon, and she's perfect, with a full head of dusty brown hair and dark blue eyes, all ten toes and all ten fingers, and she is so loved, so so loved, by all three of her parents.

So in the Governess AU imagine Sophie entering the miz as the new nanny since the old one retired or something and all these three ladies now have to whack away the ABC brothers with a stick because DAMMIT WHY WON'T YOU LEAVE ME ALONE???? (and they really don't want to get fired cause its hard finding a good job with good employers these days) but the brothers are relentless running on love and a shared braincell (and making up outrageous and miniscule reasons to be in the Hastings Estate)

Meanwhile Daphne has half a mind to matchmake and the other half wants to tear her hair out because damn it her brothers are trying tonseduce their best employees and ANTHONY, BENEDICT AND COLIN DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO FIND COMPETENT GOVERNESSES AND NANNIES?????

I was waiting for someone to bring Sophie in. I think with Sophie Daphne would have hired her as a ladies maid, or future ladies maid, for Amelia. Daphne seems like the type to preplan and possibly over plan. But until Amelia officially needs one Sophie helps Kate and Penelope as like an assistant maid to the nursery.

Daphne: Simon, I have found the perfect ladies maid for Amelia!

Simon: But Amelia isn't even one yet?

Daphne: Oh hush. She can help Kate and Penelope until then. After all it will be a few years until they start their governess duties.

So now we also have Benedict acting a fool for his sister's employees and he probably be worse. With Kate and Penelope's positions it's common they were of middle class or high class birth due to them be educated so Anthony and Colin would have to have some tact. Meanwhile Benedict got no idea of Sophie's birth station and would be pulling the be my mistress thing.

First time Sophie tells Kate and Penelope about that Penelope has to hold Kate back from going to beat Benedict's ass. NO KATE WE DON'T WANT TO GET FIRED! THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

Kate huffs but sits back down in their shared living space.

Daphne is torn, Kate, Sophie, and Penelope are her best employees and the children love them. But she has never seen her three older brothers with that lovestruck look in their eyes. She also doesn't know if opening that can of worms would do any damage to Kate, Sophie, and Penelope. She doesn't know their official backgrounds, the names she has officially written down on their employment contracts are Kathani Sheffield, Sophia Beckett, and Penelope Anne. She suspects Kate and Sophie either use their mother's maiden names or fake last names. While she's 85% sure Penelope uses her middle name as her last name. It was not uncommon as to either hide their birth families from the whispers of a working daughter, or hide themselves from their families.

Daphne isn't sure which it is but she's accidentally overheard the three giving each other language lessons in Hindi, French, and Greek. So she knows all three had enough care to be given some sort of education.

The real challenge for ABC is actually Simon and Daphne's hoard of children. Auggie, Amelia, Belinda, Caroline, and eventually David, adore Kate, Sophie, and Penelope. They don't want them leave. Are their uncles trying to steal them away? Oh no, they can not let that happen! Time for cuteness overload to distract their caretakers and cockblock their uncles!

8. If you could have a crossover between any two shows which would it be?

I've answered this before and said Midnight Burger showing up in any show would be great and I stand by that, but I wanna give another possibility as well.

Well I started to flip through what I've listened to and an idea struck me that was so silly and involved shows with two such WILDLY different tones that I had to share the idea: The Amelia Project and The Silt Verses. I'm not tagging either show in this because I'm not sure they'd find it as amusing as I would, but it would be very funny to me to hear the Interviewer try to work out how to fake a death in such a way as to hide it from a body horror god. Oh ohhhh my god what if he was trying to fake the death of a Saint. Okay sorry this is so silly and it probably would have to be comedic all the way through to work so it would take away from the weight of TSV but also it would be so funny.

15. Uno reverse! What’s a question YOU want to ask everyone else about audio drama?

I'm not sure actually. Um. Mostly I ask people about like, hey have you listened to this show or was this bit as poorly done as i thought or what are your thoughts on dropping people who purposefully put wet mouth sounds into their audio-only medium into a pit of broken glass and lemon juice.

I guess maybe I'd ask what kind of things they let audio dramas get away with. Subpar acting or writing or sound design that sort of thing. Idk why that interests me but it does. I like audio dramas on their merits and I find it interesting that I don't often worry as much about their faults as I would in other mediums.

My other question would be if the podcast company Realm makes people as irritated as it makes me, but that's probably just a personal thing.

19. Which podcast do you think would make a great TTRPG book?

This is another one I've answered before and said Valence, but I'm gonna try to think of another real quick.

I'm ignoring actual play podcasts and ones based on existing ttrpgs because that seems fair. I'm also gonna disqualify improvised shows because they're halfway there already and that feels like cheating a little.

I could say the reallt easy answer a bunch of people probably already know, but instead I'll say probably The Beacon ( @thebeaconpodcast ).

thank you for letting me write the essay. this will not be an essay.

I'm not completely heartless, okay? I think life is really shitty, and no one, even really awful moms, should be friendless. I mean, I've established, in most of my AUs, that Thelma has a book club that meets every week, and yeah, it's mostly to gossip about the neighbors, but she does have a regular group of friends that she sees all the time. They have their book club, and they hang out in the same corner with their wine at every fundraiser, and there were always dinner parties when kids were growing up. (I like to think that she was close friends with the Sheffields when Mouse and Amelia and Phillip were younger, and that only changed when the "kids" all went to school and moved out)

They are real friends, even if they're all the same kind of people that she is - rude, stuck up, entitled. They all come from money, and they were all raised the same way, and they all kind of have the same attitude toward anyone they deem less than perfect by their standards. But they're friends. And even Thelma deserves those.

Gregory's infidelity gets found out and they all turn against him and he deserves it like he lost all of his friends in the divorce because all of their wives were friends with Thelma first

She definitely had friends growing up. She went to a fancy private school (the same one that Mouse and Kim go to in the Gerwitz Siblings AU), and went on all the weekend shopping trips and ski trips and everything. Some of those friends are even the friends who are in her book club.

I'm absolutely fascinated with Thelma being objectively awful but also being like... a person, with friends and a life and a story and her own shit going on off to the side

Normally, she'll spend her birthday with her friends - brunch with mimosas at the Donovan, and then going out to a fancy dinner when Gregory is off work. Her afternoon is the same as whatever she does on a normal day. It's actually very low key considering who she is as a person.

As for "favorite charity" that question assumes she cares... at all? Like, yes, she goes to the fundraisers, and the gala every year, and everything else. But that is entirely for appearances. It's not about doing good, it's about looking good, and being seen by cameras, and answering pointless questions about the jewelry she's wearing. She honestly couldn't care less where the money goes. Like, she has strong opinions on things like her son's sexuality and life choices, but even then, I don't think she even like... looks? to see where the money is going? she doesn't read the flyers or invitations? Yes, I think this is very odd, but Thelma is, in most ways, a mystery to me.

She's not religious. She wasn't raised with any religion. She was prepared to follow any religion that her husband might follow, but Gregory III wasn't super devoted to anything, either, except for like... the family business. Their religion is money. it's very funny to me that their son is head over heels for a good Catholic school boy, but that's just because the juxtaposition of it makes me giggle

What are some of your best and worst Brettsey moments?

What are some moments that inspire you to write or make you write because things need to be changed?

This is a great question!!!

I have so many favorite Brettsey moments! It’s so hard to narrow it down but some of my favorite underrated ones is the game night date with Olivia, Matt’s reaction to Sheffield proposing, the aftermath of the explosion, the welcome back scene in 8x03, the “you’re a little extra that way” (my very favorite), Matt looking at her baby picture. I’m a definite season 7-8 enthusiast!

As for the bigger moments, obviously Cruz’s wedding, all of 9x01-9x02, the spin hug, Matt’s admitting he is in love with her, all of 9x16, 10x05, 11x18 and 11x22! I also loved a lot of the season 10 long distance moments like when Amelia said his name.

As for worst moments, most of 9x08 was out of character. I liked the jealous Matt aspect but they went overboard. I also hated when Sylvie called him Captain in 9x04 to distance that relationship. 10x22 wasn’t great either. Matt just seemed so different for me.

Honestly, there aren’t many moments I don’t like of theirs. I love them all in different ways 🤣

Most of what I write takes place as an AU or canon divergence. I honestly think there isn’t much I’d change about their falling in love arc. It was done so well and so realistically. That’s usually why I like to go different routes because I think there could’ve been more to their build up. I rarely want to change anything aside from the random LDR break up although I have to admit, I liked seeing the longing in 11x18 & 11x22

By all means they haven't seen each other often for a few weeks because Matt was on world tour. Why didn't they do this in Sheffield? Or other few concerts she was present too after many weeks not seeing each other. Why suddenly now they put her name so much in public attention, even though they don't post Amelia much, and her mother even hides her face. They use this poor child & it's just disgusting in my opinion.

Day 3 Tideswell

An early start as the three children came in for their breakfast before I accompanied Greg on the school run. This takes about an hour as Sophie and George are dropped off at Longstone and Amelia at Baslow. The morning was fine but 14-16 degrees. I had a sweater on but was amazed as the parents / grandparents dropping of fthe children were in short sleeves/sleveess and even shorts!

After a reviving morning coffee , Greg ,Diane and I drove through Grindelford a town very popular (like many around here with walkers and climbers) to Longshaw Estate. This was previously the hunting lodge of the Duke of Rutland but is now owed by the National Trust.It hosts sheepdog trial which are supposed to be the oldest to be run every year in England. There are a number of walks and we did one which allowed some wonderful views of the surrounding Hope Valley.We took a different route home through Hathersage . Hathersage is most famous for the grave of Little John and the Jane Eyre Hathersage Trail.

Lunch was at The Anchor,Inn a local Tideswell pub that has recebntly been refurbished in a very sympathetic style. . I have visited this pub on every visit to to Tideswell and watched it change over the years. The pub was first licensed in 1699 and Diane's grandfather was a licensee in the 1960s.

After an afternoon nap due to jet lag or maybe the wines at lunch ,I had a visit from Sophie and George before they went to their weekly Taekwondo and then we headed off to The George for the weekly Quiz Night.

This quiz night alternates between The George ( incidentally Diane's grandfather was a former licensee of this pub also) and The Star .It takes the form of one local compiling the questions and everyone calling out the answer . The "winner" is the first to answer. All were amused when I won two of the three question on royals . I also won a question about Rugby World Cups. However the whole evening is not a competitive event just as excuse for the locals , most of whom are incomers to he village to have a drink and chat. I had trouble understanding many of them with a combination of Derbyhire. Sheffield , Yorkshire accents.

Does Alex go back to Sheffield much these days? It's interesting how Jamie and Nick, with children, have both gravitated back home. I get why Matt's still in LA too for Amelia. Feels like Alex is sort of anchorless? // I think Alex probably wanted to get out of Sheffield as soon as he could, "who wants to sleep in a city that never wakes up, blinded by nostalgia" and all that. I can see him having mixed feelings about it, I sort of remember him saying something like Sheffield's always the same, but obviously he's changed and he probably feels a bit weird going back.
