1308 – Day 4 – Praaven Castle
Robert has been Sir Silas’ page for a year now, and at this point, he has managed to settle in. He even likes some of the work and lessons. Even the fighting is more fun than he anticipated. Working on the farm has given him strength enough, if not exactly finesse.
Which does not mean that he doesn’t feel stupid when the men-at-arms shake their heads at his difficulty with reading and writing or lack of expertise in etiquette. Part of him wants to fail, just to spite them, but his mother is hoping for so much for him. He can’t bear to disappoint her.
One day, towards the end of the year, Sir Silas tells him that he will be accompanying him to meet the Lady of the castle. He stares at him in bewilderment.
“But you said it would be uncourteous to the Countess to take me there!”
“So I did, and so I believed. But Lady Petersmarch has asked me to take you along.”
“She wants to see me?”
Sir Silas lifts a brow. “Do I need to repeat myself, lad? Make yourself ready.”
And so he does, fear and confusion quickly turning into annoyance at the feelings. He has no desire to be belittled by some high-and-mighty noble lady, as he has been by so many of the servants who know, of course, that he is the bastard of their former employer. He follows Sir Silas up the tall stone stairs to the entrance of the castle and comes upon one of the loveliest women he has ever laid eyes on. He had seen the Countess before, but never this close.
She is dressed in a silk gown of darkest blue – blue and gold being the Dudley family’s colours – and a long veil that covers most of her strawberry-blond hair. Her big, amber eyes seek him out immediately, or at least that is his impression before he bows deeply, as Sir Silas has instructed him.
“My lady.”
“You may rise, young page. So, Sir Silas, this is the boy that's been serving you?”
“It is, my lady. Robert Townsend.”
“You do look remarkably alike to my late husband, Robert. But I’m sure enough people have told you that already. You come from one of the farms outside the city, is that so?”
He struggles to keep his composure but manages to nod. “Yes, my lady. We live near Tovar.”
“We?”
“My parents, my siblings and I.”
“Ah. Well, I hope you’ve settled in well. Now then, Sir Silas, about your report.”
Unbeknownst to the all of them, they are being watched. Three curious heads peak over the railing of an upstairs gallery, the high, echoing walls making it easy to catch what is being said below. Two of the children have the same red-gold hair as the Countess, while the eldest’s hair is pitch black.
Ralph Dudley Jr., eleventh Earl of Petersmarch, turns to his siblings and motions them to follow him into a nearby bedroom, so their conversation won’t be overheard.
“So that’s our brother”, Elizabeth says.
“He’s not our brother, stupid”, Clement interjects immediately. “He’s just father’s bastard.”
Elizabeth raises a brow, in a manner very similar to her mother. “I believe a sibling is customarily someone with whom one shares at least one parent, brother.”
“Yes, but bastards don’t count.”
Ralph clears his throat. “He is a bastard that is currently training to be a knight, though, so we can’t exactly ignore that he’s here. Although mother has done a good job of doing so in the past year. I wonder what’s changed.”
“Doesn’t Your Lordship have all the information he could ever want?”, Clement teases, but his elder brother only rolls his eyes.
“I’ll take the reins soon enough, you’ll see.”
“We should introduce herself, now that he’s here”, Elizabeth puts in, to end the quarrel before it can start. She doesn’t have time for her brothers’ useless squabbles. “I at least am curious to meet him. A peasant brother, can you imagine!”
“Yes, let’s”, Ralph agrees. “Who knows, maybe he’ll prove useful to have around.”
So down the stairs they go. They don’t sneak – Ralph doesn’t feel he has to sneak, he is the Earl and this is his castle, after all – and peer around the corner. Their mother and Sir Silas have moved on into the banquet room to have their discussion, but their half-brother is standing near the door, trying to be subtle in gawking at the rich interior. Ralph assumes he has never been in a place like this. He has grown up in some peasant hut, after all, and the guard hall is rather sparse.
“Pssst”, he hisses, and motions the boy over when that catches his attention. Robert looks towards the Countess and Sir Silas briefly, sees that they are deep in conversation, and sneaks over into the side room the three noble children retreat into.
And then they stare at each other, before the peasant boy bows stiffly.
“Lord Petersmarch, I presume?”
“You presume correctly”, Ralph answers, with just as much dignity. “And these are my sister Lady Elizabeth and my brother Clement.”
“It is a pleasure to meet you”, Elizabeth says kindly. Clement just nods, though more in greeting than to echo his sister’s sentiment. “We were so curious to meet you! It seemed strange to have another child of our father’s living so close yet never to interact with them.”
“We would have sooner, but our duties have kept us away”, Ralph, who doesn’t want to admit that he has bowed to his mother’s wishes on the matter, adds a little pompously. “But we couldn’t let the opportunity pass by now that you’re here.”
“Is it true that you grew up on a farm?”, Elizabeth asks immediately, not especially tactfully, but she is only nine years old.
Robert stiffens, but nods. “It is. I’ve lived there with my parents until Sir Silas kindly took me on as his page.”
“With you parents?”, Ralph asks, with his emphasise on the s.
“My mother and her husband. The man that raised me.”
Clement scoffs, but Elizabeth smiles kindly. “I’m sure it would be hard not to see your mother’s husband as a father. I’m sure it must be nice to…to still have one. I at least miss our father a lot.”
They talk some more, but it remains awkward, and gets more so when the Countess and Sir Silas walk into their hideout, having obviously noticed that Robert has gone missing. Both look disapproving, so Ralph quickly puffs out his chest and looks square at them.
“We were curious to talk to Sir Silas’ protegee, Mother, and it didn’t seem like he was involved in your conversation, so we didn’t think it would do any harm to steal him away.”
“Did you, now?” She studies all of them. “As an Earl you should know that it isn’t right to interrupt other peoples talks by ferreting away participants, Ralph. And any good page stays until he is dismissed.”
Robert swallows with an effort. “I beg your pardon, Lady Petersmarch, Sir Silas. I fear I wasn’t certain whether a summons from my liege overrides my duty to my knight.”
Sir Silas chuckles, and quickly hides it in a cough when the Countess shoots him a disapproving glance. She then turns to Robert. “A valid point, I confess. Still, stealing away is never a sign of a good conscience, is it?”
He just lowers his head at that, although, it must be said, mostly to hide his face.
“But it was interesting to get to know him, Mother”, Lady Elizabeth interjects.
“I’m sure it was, my dear. And I’m sure there’ll be other opportunities, seeing as he’ll stay on here for the time being.”
Robert doesn’t know whether to take this as an invitation or a challenge.

You can easily tell that everybody is trying their hardest to portray these characters. Some of them came across as real-life people while others just felt like characters in a movie. This could mainly be pointed to the writing in this film. Some of the lines in this film were just hilariously bad and cringy and I would give examples but I already forgot them. But I do have to say the scenery was stunning and the production on this was well done. Each set and costume looked perfect for each scene. The costumes fit each character and showed a bit more into their personality. For example, Richard’s outfits made him look like royalty but at the same time, a normal guy because that’s what he wants to be. This film had lots of pacing issues. From beginning to end it didn’t feel like that was the speed it should be going at. The beginning felt slow while the ending felt to fast. The creators of the film might have thought they had a longer film and then realized they only had a one hour and thirty-two-minute film so they had to quickly resolve the film. The last thing I want to talk about is the relationship in this film. It’s not believable or relatable. I know it shouldn’t be relatable seeing how it is about a journalist falling in love with a prince but the writers still should make it so some people can relate to at least one of them. And it isn’t believable because it seems too rushed. Throughout the entire film, they are hardly around each other and then all of a sudden he just loves her. There is no explanation why just little subtle hints. In the end, A Christmas Prince is perfect for people who like RomComs but for others not so much. I give A Christmas Prince a 6/10. Kamurai: Decent watch, probably won’t watch again, but can recommend. While it isn’t anything truly special, it’s a decent version of a “journalist in disguise falls in love” trope. Though the object of affection being a prince allows for resources that almost anyone wouldn’t turn down. There certainly is a lot of production put into the movie to maintain the grand perception of royals, but the best part of the movie is the heart felt Christmas vibe of it. Unfortunately, this is mostly achieved through the secondary characters and them influencing the royal family.

Man United survive Newport County scare to reach FA Cup fifth-round
Manchester United survived a real FA Cup fourth-round scare at Newport County before finally seeing off the League Two side's brave attempt at a giant-killing. United made a flying start and looked to have wrapped the tie up when a smooth finish from Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo's first senior goal gave them a 2-0 lead inside 13 minutes. Alejandro Garnacho also hit the woodwork as United dominated but the team 73 places beneath them on the league ladder, roared on by passionate Welsh followers inside a packed Rodney Parade, staged a stirring fightback. Bryn Morris' long-range effort glanced off Lisandro Martinez's head past United's debutant keeper Altay Bayindir after 36 minutes and Newport really started to dream of causing a sensation two minutes after the break. Adam Lewis' cross allowed Will Evans to steal in ahead of Raphael Varane to put Newport level as the hordes of 'The Amber Army' celebrated wildly. United were stunned but managed to regain enough composure to regain the lead in the 68th minute, as Antony reacted first to beat Newport goalkeeper Nick Townsend after Luke Shaw's effort came back off the post. Rasmus Hojlund made the result safe for Erik ten Hag's team, finishing from close range after substitute Omari Forson had a shot blocked by Townsend. This time the hosts had no response, leaving United to be grateful for their escape and the chance to look forward to a fifth-round tie at either Bristol City or Nottingham Forest. How one St. Pete non-profit is saving sea turtles, one nest at a time
Meet the Sea Turtle Trackers, the organization responsible for ensuring a safe and successful sea turtle nesting season in St. Pete Beach.
Turtle Joe checks Nest 60 for signs of hatching. This is one of the last two nests on St. Pete Beach.
ST. PETERSBURG – It was Friday morning, the air on the beach was still as the first rays of dawn cast gentle light onto lapping waves. This is what nearly all of Turtle Joe’s mornings look like throughout the summer: he’s on the beach as soon as the sun is coming up, driving his truck along the water and keeping an eye out for new sea turtle tracks and hatchlings.
Few have a moniker as apt as “Turtle Joe” Widlansky, the vice president of operations of the non-profit organization Sea Turtle Trackers (STT). Throughout the sea turtle nesting season, which runs from May through October every year, you can find Turtle Joe, other STT staff and volunteers walking St. Pete Beach and Shell Key, marking off nests, filling in holes and picking up trash. Joe says their motto is “Clean, flat, dark.” These are the conditions needed for a successful nesting season.
On the Gulf Coast of Florida nearly all nests are laid by loggerhead sea turtles, but Joe says we sometimes see nests from green sea turtles and Kemp's Ridley sea turtles as well. All species of sea turtles in coastal U.S. waters are either threatened or endangered.
The Loggerhead Nesting Process
When it's time to lay her eggs, a mother sea turtle will return to the same beach she emerged from as a hatchling. In the dead of night, she’ll crawl up the beach, leaving behind her the tracks that STT keeps an eye out for, and dig a hole with her back flippers. This is called the egg chamber and it’s usually around 15-18 inches deep. Then, she goes into a sort of trance for about an hour or two, laying around 100 eggs. When she’s done, she’ll cover up the egg chamber with sand and head back to the blue. STT members follow the tracks, verify the nest by locating the egg chamber, and mark it off with stakes, caution tape and a sign identifying it as a sea turtle nest.
While the eggs incubate underground for about 60 days, STT members keep an eye out for predation; sea turtle eggs and hatchlings are a delicacy to nearly every other creature on the beach. Predators can include coyotes, ghost crabs, fire ants, birds and racoons. Turtle Joe explains that that’s why STT puts a self-releasing screen over every nest they find. This prevents larger predators (particularly problematic on Shell Key) from accessing the egg chamber but still allows the hatchlings to climb out on their own.
When the nest is done incubating, STT members will look for a “hatch hole,” or small divot in the sand. From the hatch hole they’ll find dozens of hatchling tracks leading (ideally) to the water. Hatches happen at night and sometimes lighting from beachfront resorts and restaurants can cause “disorientations,” confusing the hatchlings and leading them away from the water, making them more susceptible to death by predation or overheating. This is why code enforcement conducts two surveys per season, making sure lights are turtle safe: orange, amber or red, but not white.
Three days after the nest has hatched, an STT member will conduct an excavation where they unearth all the eggshells and record the egg chamber data, including number of eggs hatched and unhatched and note any anomalies such as root impaction or bacterial growth.
After the Storm

While the Clearwater Aquarium monitors the beaches at Clearwater, Madeira Beach and Treasure Island, STT monitors St. Pete Beach and three barrier islands to its south which are North Shell Key, South Shell Key and Outback Key. Each day a separate team will patrol these keys but two are only accessible by boat after years of storms shaping and reshaping the islands. After Hurricane Idalia they lost five nests on the islands and more on the main beach to “inundation” or flooding. Supervisor Tammy Allen says after Idalia part of the beach became harder to access on foot, too, with debris blocking their usual walking path. Captain Jim Jeansonne is an STT staff member who has been using his personal vessel to help the organization access the islands until they raise funds for a reliable vessel.
STT raises funds in several ways. They receive donations, sometimes the county contracts their work and they also allow people and businesses to adopt a nest which is then marked with a custom sign attached to the nest. Turtle Joe explains it’s a great opportunity for beachfront businesses to advertise, but people will also adopt nests in memoriam of deceased loved ones.

Porter: It’s over, Joshua. I have the high ground. My ears are no longer your chew toy.
Richard: “I’m sorry. You’re right, I have been different. I think this election, my ex-wife turning it into an extension of our divorce, is stressing me. You mean so much to me, Amber.”
Amber: “Then I need you to try a little harder. I have a job, too. She comes in from time to time. She’s friends with my boss. I know things can be stressful, and I know it’s that much worse for you. But I’m not a maid or a chef or a child, I’m your partner. At home, let’s act like partners.”
Richard: “Agreed. Partners. Till death do us part, just as we vowed.”
Amber: “Now, let’s make up the right way.”

"Now where the Watcher were you?! I come home and find the boys alone at home!"
"I'm sorry!"
"Sorry? What were you doing out at this time of the night?"
"I was looking for you!"
"Looking for me?! Sure!"
"You were late!"
"I was working late. The campaign is picking up steam, you know that! What in your right mind makes you go out and traipse around town?"
"I..."
"Doesn't matter. Your son's crying, go look after him. Maybe you'll come up with a believable story in the meantime."
"Richard!"
"Shoo."

tongue kiss by the loners
amen by amber run
song for jude st francis by local news legend
trees II by mccafferty
Tongue Kiss - Oh this song has some VIBES to it... I really like the beat here.
The melancholic energy...... okay so I'm actually gonna relate this song to Juno, especially in their relationship with their ex-girlfriend Estelle (Aeneas). Because Estelle very much manipulated Juno and, though they're aware that she ruined their life, they still long for her, in a way. Their feelings are very conflicted in general when it comes to her, and I don't think they really know how to explain it.
Amen - Oh aha this song makes me cry every time without fail so I'm not gonna listen to it again right now but just know I love it very much.
Anyway this is a Fragile Things/Bleeding Over Eden song. Is that perhaps a little obvious? Maybe. But yeah this song relates very much to Noah/Ink's grief over Arthur and the life they had together, and his struggles to move on after.
Song For Jude St. Francis - Oh, this song makes me think of a bunch of my OCs, but first of all I love the vibes here.
Anyway I'm gonna relate this to Gaia because Gaia is a character I'm thinking about a lot, especially Gaia after the inciting incident of their story. When they're at their lowest and struggling to come to terms with their new reality and all the trauma they've endured, and especially their psychosis (which I haven't gone into much when talking about them, but yeah!!)
I also want to apply this song to Jack Townsend so I am going to :3c
Trees II - Oh GOSH this song really hit... I love it and I am going to think about it for a while.
As for OCs, I actually kinda relate this song to Eden? It just makes me think of all the pain and grief and anger he carries with him, most of which he blames himself for because he genuinely feels like he means nothing to the people around him, and he struggles so so much with self-worth and a need for approval and love that he doesn't get, or at least not in a way he understands.
This song also reminds me of Jack Townsend though so I am also putting it in his playlist <3
