Middleditch and Schwartz is great improv. And I'll tell you what when i went to see Ben perform improv live in chicago, holy shit did it not disappoint. This was a bit ago but still the best day ever. If you don't know who Ben Schwartz is or have never seen long form improv, I reccomend the Netflix show Middleditch and Schwartz. No i am not a bot. Yes, Middleditch did get in some trouble and is no longer prominent in the comedy world. However it is still a great show and 3 episodes of comedy gold!

Promising but maladroit young tech genius Richard Hendricks finds out his arch-rival, Gavin Belson, a petty, vindictive, scheming billionaire who has tried to destroy him more than once holds the patent that would make his dream project come true.

So of course, like any normal person, he ventures out, in the dead of night, to pay a visit to said powerful arch-rival's big dark castle in Romania... ahem... his humongous mansion in Silicon Valley.  

Oh, have I mentioned that our techie has also lost one of his sneakers in the process, and is walking into Drac... Gavin's driveway with a mismatched pair of shoes?

Little Red Ridden Hoodie walks up to Big Bad Belson's front door, and of course it's decorated with the haut-relief of a lion ("in repose", as Jared would put it). 

The Wolf himself answers the door, all glistening dark eyes, motions him in with a raised eyebrow and a countenance that says: "Well, DO come in, my damsel in distress - but at your own peril."

And I mean, in comes Twinklarella, lowering his hoodie and coquettishly fluffing out his ginger curls, as he blushingly glances with his big blue doe-eyes at the very same CEO who promised him during a heated phone call that he would BEND HIM OVER HIS DESK AND F*CK HIM SO HARD... 

Now, tell me, in all seriousness, with such lore (both internal and referencing classic narratives like Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Dracula), how is one not supposed to immediately launch a thousand ships for these two?!!

THE FINAL GIRLS (2015)

A fun and interesting little romp through a movie within a movie. Good casting and clever storytelling for what the story is. We love Taissa Farmiga from American Horror Story (not so much The Nun) and Alia Shawkat is a favorite as well.

We begin with a horrible accident in which the main character loses a core family member (okay Descent and Lake Mungo), in this case, her mother. Flash forward to the present, a fire in the theater leads to a group of friends looking to escape through the back of the movie screen so they cut a large slit in it with a machete and this takes them into the world of the movie! Wack! They immediately recognize it because of all of the actors showing up in costume and in-world. WACK. The world is a little wonky by the way, it is color graded to be really vibrant and there are a ton of fake flowers everywhere “growing” in the woods. You can tell it is a whole vibe they are going for, I am unsure how to feel about it. 

The group pose as camp counselors to get close to the actors of the movie so they can live out the movie as that seems to be their quest somehow. Max is very excited about this because one of the actors is her mother who has since passed away in that car accident. Max has the idea that maybe she can save her fictional mom and that will somehow make up for the fact that her real mom is dead. Very sad! Anyway, the crew watch the first girl get killed in the woods and the killer interacts with them by low-key killing a party member which was unexpected to say the least. This is very upsetting to the group who then decide they need to stay with the Final Girl from this movie to stay alive. That works for a hot second before they are taken into a flashback and they get blood on them and when they return, the people who belong in the world of the movie flip out and try to run away. This takes our Final Girl and one of the guys into a car, they get in a crash and it is fatal for the two of them. Yikes.

During the flashback we learned that our antagonist is Billy Murphy, a previous camper who was bullied mercilessly to the point of getting firecrackers blown up on him causing 3rd degree burns. Fucking yikes. The main group decides to explain to the movie group what is going on so they all have the best chance for survival. It is very hard for the actors to cope with the fact that they are fictional movie characters that don’t really exist but they also don’t want to be killed by Billy so they are going through a lot. They all nominate Max to be the new Final Girl because she is a virgin and you have to be a virgin to survive horror movies or something which is silly because adults survive horror movies all the time BUT ANYWAY. Max and her fictional mom character have a heart to heart under a tree which was very sweet. Then the girls from the original crew have a heart to heart on the docs and it is very sweet! Just wholesome moments all around before the bloodshed. 

Everyone left gets ready to battle it out with Billy with everything they have on hand. They summon him by having the most sexual character slut it up. Billy shows up almost immediately because that is what happens in a slasher and tries to kill everyone. Their traps half work but also the slut falls face first into a bear trap… Yikes. (Wrath of Becky, anyone?) Then two of our real girls are lost to a downed bookshelf and then they sacrifice themselves for the group by dousing Billy with gasoline so he would light up in flames! This helps but only momentarily as he leaps out the window at those left. They have a chase through the woods but then force a flashback to escape the fiend. Next, Max leaves her stabbed friend all alone to chase after her fictional mom. Sheesh. 

While saving her fictional mom character Max gets stabbed, they limp back to the church where the other stabbed guy is waiting. Max lets it slip that the fictional mom is her mom in real life so what does this character do? She sacrifices herself for Max. She does a sexy dance to summon Billy (which of course works) and he kills her but now Max is the Final Girl so she has to survive. There is a pretty intense battle sequence that plays next that is a little campy but in the end the day is won. Max wakes in a hospital bed and all her friends are there, alive. She is amazed and happy until Billy Murphy busts through one of the hospital doors and text appears on screen for the sequel to the first movie they were trapped in! Uh-oh!
