I shared the first part of this project in this post, but I actually have a second, fluffier snippet written for it, in which Kai meets Amber for the first time :) @fever-project I think you’ll like this :333

Kai knocks on the window of Skyler’s hospital room, scaring the nurse attending her. He can tell when Skyler tells them to let him in, and when they do he rushes to her bedside.

“Sorry,” he says, out of breath from having gone as fast as he could the entire way here. “I didn’t want to cause a ruckus in the waiting room.”

Thankfully, it had occurred to him right before he started to head for the front doors. The red Ninja arriving at the hospital for the birth of a baby who wasn’t his but was his girlfriend’s would have caused all sorts of chaos on the internet. Chaos Kai didn’t want, for him, or for Skyler.

Or for the baby.

“It’s okay,” Skyler smiles tiredly at him. “You missed the birth.”

Kai laughs nervously. “Yeah, I…I’m not sure how much I regret that, I don’t know if I could have handled it. Or if they would have even let me stay here for it.“

Skyler chuckles slightly. “Well…can you handle holding her?”

“Holding her?” Heat flares up in Kai’s stomach, a mix of nervousness and excitement.

Skyler nods, and finally, Kai notices the little lump on her chest, almost hidden beneath the sheet.

“Can I?” He asks quickly. He looks up at the nurse nearby, wide-eyed. “Can I?”

The nurse smiles. “If it’s okay with mama, of course.”

Kai looks back at Skyler.

“Let him,” she says, and Kai’d heart beats a little faster in his chest.

The nurse nods, and picks up the baby, swaddling it before walking around the bed to Kai.

“Sit down,” she says, and Kai sits in one of the chairs against the wall next to Skyler’s bed.

She instructs him how to hold the baby, and then she gently hands him the warm bundle.

Kai finds himself staring into a small, squishy, red little face, tucked beneath a beanie. The breath is stolen from his lungs and he can barely remember his own name.

He vaguely registers Skyler talking to the nurse, who then leaves the room.

“So what do you think of her?” Skyler asks softly, a few minutes later.

“She’s perfect.” Kai says.

“She is.” Skyler agrees, practically glowing with pride.

“What’s her name?”

“Greta.”

Kai looks up at her, bewildered. It’s not a name he would have expected from Skyler, especially considering she’d mentioned she hated it while going over baby names. She grins at him.

“Kidding. It’s Amber.”

Kai blinks. He had chosen that name.

“You said you hated that name!”

“I wanted you to be surprised!”

He laughs. It feels like the first carefree laugh he’s had in awhile. Amber stirs in his arms, and he is quick to sober up. He returns to inspecting her little face.

“Amber.” He murmurs. “You’re perfect.”

The silence is truly peaceful, but it only lasts for a few minutes.

“Kai…” Skyler ventures.

“Yeah?”

“I told all the nurses that you’re the father. It’s on the birth certificate.”

Kai looks up at her.

“What?”

You'll get through it. Not gonna sugar coat it as I'm aware it may get hard at times but I know you'll get through it! You have your family there to help support you. My first Christmas and new year's without my dad was hard but the best part is it gets easier from then on. Just remember to eat and drink something yeah? What films have you got in mind to watch during the holidays? I'll probably watch the Michael bay transformer films, I know they're bad but I like them... like how I like the 90's Mario film (the effects are actually good?? I miss practical effects).

Sadly no cute photo of my cat to show this time so I'll leave this instead. I adore that picture you drew of Ceru! Been using it as my lock screen I love it so much. You captured her adorable chaotic energy perfectly!

Thanks Skyler (Assuming bc of the handle you left), i really appreciate your support. Its gotten easier for sure, since its been a few months, but the holidays getting closer doesn't help very much.

The movies we're able to watch really depends on what we have still plugged in. Our VHS player and most of our dvds are already in storage, so we might have to rent some as it gets closer. I'm hoping that we watch the RankinBass stopmotion movies. The year without a Santa Clause is my favorite.

My mom'll probably want to watch National Lampoon, its her favorite movie. Besides those i'm not sure what else we might watch, whatever catches our eyes i guess

Best line of the latest Righteous Gemstones ep (3.7 Burn for Burn, Wood for Wood, Stripe for Stripe) goes to Skyler Gisondo as Gideon saying, "Let's see how fast you fuckers run" while sitting in his daddy's monster truck about to mow down his cult leader uncle.

Weird-sweet moment of the episode goes to Tiffany, who is forever my favorite because she truly loves the Gemstones and brings those little dolls to comfort everyone, and I will protect her with my life.

Fucking lost it laughing moment to Baby Billy rolling Lionel in the stroller and just letting go the moment he hit dead center on the doorway to the next room. Born showman, that boy.

I don't post about it every week because then I'd post nothing else all week because literally I will call Sean the rest of the week going, "Another thing about Gemstones." But, like, this show FUCKS. I grew up adjacent to this megachurch nonsense, and it's so dead on in the satire while being bone deep sincere about who these characters are.

I am VERY curious to see where things go with Gideon reading Eli's latest autobio. Something big is brewing there. And I'm still curious where the BJ and Judy situation is going to end up, and I really want to see Jesse properly grovel at Amber's feet for being a dick this season because she's having success outside of him and it clearly chafes his asshole.

And, look, yes, I need Keefe and Kelvin to realize they are full of the gay feels, but it is a sitcom trope to have double pining idiots, and it's saying a LOT about repressed queer sexuality within restrictive religious structures. So, I'm not putting any money on the two of them moving beyond their painful, dumb lust and adoration of one another.

Rejected Bad: Comedy Dad

The following is a rejected script from an early season of Breaking Bad.

INT. WHITE RESIDENCE - KITCHEN - DAY

Walter White, a middle-aged high school chemistry teacher-turned-methamphetamine manufacturer, sits across from his wife, Skyler, at the kitchen table. Tension and unease fill the air.

SKYLER:  (intimidated)  Walt, I can't believe you're involved in all of this. How could you do this to our family?

WALTER:  (smirking)  You always had this naive image of me, didn't you? A complete lack of understanding of who I am and what I'm capable of.

Skyler's eyes well up with tears, but she tries to maintain composure.

SKYLER:  (angry)  You're not the man I thought I married. All this danger, all this criminal activity... How are we ever going to get out of this nightmare?

WALTER:  (leaning in, coldly)  Oh, Skyler, you've always viewed me as weak. The brilliant chemist turned meek high school teacher. But let me tell you something, I've been underestimated my whole life. It's time you realised just how powerful I can be.

Skyler's fear is palpable, she takes a step back, intimidated by Walter's words and demeanour.

SKYLER:  (in a small voice)  What about the kids, Walter? What kind of father would willingly put their children in danger like this?

Walter's expression softens for a brief moment, guilt fleeting across his face.

WALTER:  (dejected)  I never wanted it to come to this. I never intended for any of this to happen. But life... it has its ways of leading you down dark paths you never thought you'd tread.

INT. MIKE'S SAFE HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Walter and Mike, his wise and seasoned criminal ally, sit in a dimly lit room, each holding a glass of turbo whisky. The tension between them has subsided, as they share a moment of reflection.

MIKE:  (sipping his whisky)  You ever think about the choices we've made, Walter? How far we've fallen?

Walter takes a deep breath, staring into the amber liquid of his glass.

WALTER:  (sighs)  Every single day, Mike. I used to imagine a different life for myself. A life where I could make people laugh, not terrify them. A comedy show dad... that's what I should've been.

Mike chuckles, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

MIKE:  Well, ain't that something. I can see you as the goofy dad, cracking jokes while barbecuing in the backyard.

Walter forces a small smile, a hint of nostalgia flashing in his eyes.

WALTER:  (sarcastic)  Yeah, imagine me in an apron, right? Guess life had other plans for me. Sometimes I wonder if I could've been different, made better choices. Maybe then I wouldn't be the monster I've become.

Mike places a reassuring hand on Walter's shoulder.

MIKE:  (chuckles)  You can't change the past, buddy. We're in deep now, and we have to face the consequences head-on. But remember, Walter, you're still you under all this chaos. For better or worse.

Walter raises his glass and clinks it against Mike's, the sound echoing in the room, symbolising the bond that has formed between them amidst the darkness.

WALTER:  (toasting)  To the choices we've made, and the men we've become. May the whisky soothe the soul and the path we walk be true.

They both take a sip, the rich liquid burning down their throats, a moment of silent acceptance shared between two broken souls.

FADE OUT.
