Call Jane
Continuing on my journey through Cory Michael Smith's filmography. So far:
Utopia
Gotham
Incomplete
Transatlantic
Next up, is Call Jane with Sigourney Weaver and Elizabeth Banks. This movie is set in 1969-1970 hence the AMAZING hairstyle. But he's great (as usual) and is kind of a mix of Nygma (Gotham) and Thomas (Utopia). It's a pretty good movie and I recommend it.
(also, shirtless scene...we're all winners here...)

what characters do you feel like are as well written as mercymore? It's so hard finding female characters who are assertive, confident, bitchy and morally dubious - let alone ones as well written as Mercymore (and Ianthe for that matter) is.
Deeply enjoying this Freudian slip of wanting Mercymore. Off the top of my head, you may enjoy:
Books: We Have Always Lived in the Castle, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, and okay, honestly, kind of left field and it's been a decade or so since I've read it & it's certainly of its era but maybe The Joy Luck Club, lol.
Plays: Mother Courage and her Children, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Lion in Winter.
TV: Channel 4's Utopia (not the Amazon remake!! a Show of All Time and me flexing a deep cut), AMC's Interview with a Vampire (many a beloved bitchy man, but Claudia, beloved; I think she and Mercy would vibe tbqh), HBO's Succession (Shiv Roy and Gerri Kellman, you will always be famous, etc). Idk, Fleabag? (Look, take it as you will, but I actually really enjoy reading the Fleabag scripts.)
Video Games: I think some of the games Tamsyn has either cited as inspiration, eg. Umineko When They Cry, or confirmed to play, eg. Disco Elysium (like Mercymorn, the female characters are secondary ones, but everyone's very voicey and fun) are probably vibe.
Comics: Queer terrors abound in What Happens Next (webcomic), idk anything Emily Carroll is probably a vibe, although certainly more condensed.

Solar Opposites Intro (Janiz Version by @avaveevo)
Tumblr media
The Solar Opposites intro plays with a view of the planet Shlorp.
Janiz: Planet Shlorp was the perfect Utopia… until the asteroid hit!
The asteroid hits Shlorp.
Janiz: *voiceover* One hindered adults and their Replicants are issued a Pupa and escaped into space! Searching for new homes on uninhabited worlds! So my brother and his family crash on Earth, stranded them on an already populated planet!
Then Korvo drops the Pupa
Janiz: *voiceover* That’s my brother Korvo who drop the Pupa. But the Pupa is okay. He hates Earth and thinks it’s a horrible and that people are stupid and confusing.
One by one the family picks up the Pupa before it finishes with Korvo.
Janiz: *voiceover* I still don’t get why people love Amazon Prime Video so much and prefer it over Hulu! Hulu’s the best fucking streaming service! I mean Amazon Prime Video does get bigger quality and has amazing shows! But Hulu deserves more respect and praise, y’all!
Cue the Solar Opposites Title Card!

Just a heads up to anyone thinking of getting prime video to watch THE HOUR, UTOPIA or MODERN LOVE.....be careful. These shows actually belong to subsidiaries: you don't get them free with your subscription 😡 you have to pay EXTRA to get them or subscribe to mgm or paramount or something 🤷‍♀️. 🖕🖕🖕that. Talk about a damn rip-off.
As GREAT as each of these shows are, I'm not paying a monthly subscription to NOT be able to access them. 🖕🖕🖕prime AND amazon.

Unveiling Cinematic Dreams: Navigating DesireMovies Alternatives
In the mesmerizing realm of cinema, our desires find an escape, a canvas where imagination dances with reality. The digital age has granted us unprecedented access to these dreams, and DesireMovies was once a prominent name in this landscape. Alas, every tale has its twists, and the world of online movie streaming is no exception. As we bid adieu to DesireMovies, a new chapter unfolds with alternatives that promise to keep the silver screen enchantment alive.
The Ebb and Flow of DesireMovies: A Fond Farewell
DesireMovies, a platform that once ignited the flickering flames of cinephiles, created waves with its treasure trove of movies spanning genres and languages. It was a digital haven where users could satiate their appetite for visual stories from across the globe. However, the ever-evolving landscape of legality and copyright concerns cast a shadow on this cinematic utopia. DesireMovies, like many others, fell victim to the relentless pursuit of protecting intellectual property rights.
The Reel Deal: Exploring Alternatives
But fear not, for where one chapter ends, another begins. The digital universe is vast and teeming with alternatives that offer the magic of movies at the click of a button. Here are a few platforms that can help you keep your cinematic desires burning bright:
1. Netflix: The titan of streaming needs no introduction. With a vast library of original content and licensed classics, Netflix is a one-stop-shop for all your cinematic cravings.
2. Amazon Prime Video: From critically acclaimed movies to popular TV shows, Prime Video offers a diverse range of content. The option to rent or buy movies not included in the subscription adds to its allure.
3. Disney+: For the inner child in you, Disney+ is a trove of animated classics, Marvel superhero sagas, and the Star Wars universe.
4. Hulu: If you're seeking a mix of current TV episodes, movies, and original content, Hulu has got you covered.
5. HBO Max: With a fusion of HBO's premium content and WarnerMedia's extensive library, this platform offers a cinematic journey like no other.
6. Kanopy: If you're a fan of indie and art-house cinema, Kanopy provides a curated collection that caters to the connoisseurs of the silver screen.
7. Crunchyroll: Anime enthusiasts will find their paradise here, with a staggering collection of anime series and films.
The Quest for Cinematic Bliss Continues
As we embrace these DesireMovies Alternatives, let's remember that every platform contributes to the vibrant tapestry of cinematic artistry. Each service brings its unique flavor to the table, catering to different tastes and preferences. While the closure of DesireMovies may stir a sense of nostalgia, it also reminds us of the impermanence of the digital landscape. So, let's raise our virtual popcorn bags to the journey ahead, where countless movies are waiting to unfold before our eyes. The desire for movies transcends platforms, and as long as there are stories to be told, the magic of cinema will continue

Utopia
So I finished Transatlantic (seriously, watch it, it's great. He's great. Everyone is great) and now I am determined to watch everything else CMS has been in.
Next up, Utopia on Amazon Prime. It came out in 2020 after Gotham. Its subject matter parallels what was going on during that time (COVID). I'm only 3 episodes in, and he doesn't have a lot of screen time, but when he does, it's -chef's kiss-.
Join me on this journey.

Stream It Or Skip It: ‘Unicorn Wars’ on VOD, a Deranged Animation About The World’s Most Violent Teddy Bears
This week on WTF Theater is Unicorn Wars (now streaming on VOD services like Amazon Prime Video), which is your average incredibly violent animated film about cutesy-poo religious-zealot teddy bears bent on slaughtering all the unicorns in the land and therefore bringing about a prophesied utopia. I can read your thoughts now: “Again? Didn’t 80 for Brady JUST cover that exact same material?”…

Scrivens Two-Form (Mosaic Laws Set)
Bulletin Search: Richard Coughlin, “Richard Ramirez”.
Reason: Borrowing the author’s 1997 Pontiac Grandam, to go back to Hopkinton, and meet Steph Chula, his girlfriend, in 2004, with a fudged ticket from the Massachusetts State Pike (I-90), from blowing a tollbooth fast pass on camera, driver photographed.
Core Scriven: Book of Daniel.
Modifier: Green Lantern Mosaic #17, “Alien Gothic”.
Element Prongs:
Mosaic world, representative of UMass-Amherst, after the undercover campus cops were shut down by Haitian Yardies (the aliens the Green Lanterns work for, the Guardians of Oa; campus highschool councils, inner city and Medway).
English Sherlock planet, gay men populate the town; Sherlock and Watson, with eggplant heads, Portuguese-Sicilians (Rich Coughlin’s genome combination).   Sherlock and Watson, don’t want to go home, to England, with “the old fears”; they vastly prefer Baker Street, from the Prime Minister’s cable (prohibition of marijuana, under Green Lantern UN rule).
Rectory planet, where monks and priests train with gymnastics, under Italian tradition; the priests, are fascinated with the utopia the highschoolers propose, planning on turning the Justice League into priests with assumptions of match per visitor, to local world already processed.
End game, Amazons arrive, with terror death weapons, giant space ships; Greek weaponry, reserved for ceremony, the art of combat, not defending on tribes from kidnapping by the highschool council.
Scriven Fit:
1In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it. 2And the Lord delivered into his hand Jehoiakim king of Judah, along with some of the articles from the house of God. He carried these off to the land of Shinar,a to the house of his god, where he put them in the treasury of his god.
Notes: Mosaic world, guardians of Oa are Babylon.
Character Arch:
John Stewart, Marine veteran Green Lantern, is against the slavery of foreign species on Mosaic, however is unaware that they prefer being there, taken from fascist worlds known for drug use and militant education and free labor laws with a far more advanced society than apparent.
Plot Elements:
Flash (the police forensics expert, he cheats to spot cheaters, using shortened principles to spot a criminal act by the criminal act, duplicating the elementary principle, hence there is evidence in return).  World #1, British sober culture, homosexuals, “sadoists”, sodomizers (fags).
Martian Manhunter (music range Mossad, he’s a veteran of a gang unit on a criminal felony, so gets off “Detroit”, fictional origin alias, with a “metro-motors” hack; actually a Jewish pacifist, literate in Israeli Synagogue scrolls, and against them).  World #2, Vatican culture, militarization of  the common people through study of new missionary range provided by co-conspirators to patronize.
Guy Gardner (UN agent typically thrown rogue, due to brain trauma, sometimes in employ of foreign powers or concepts, otherwise a standard police agent, and coach).  World #3, Amazons, Princess Diana, the Portuguese colonists and colonials and those serving them by plying disadvantaged forms of business, to divide races, for their masters, the House of Saud and the transexual women-to-men (blue feces in infancy, from being urinated on, by a mother, or alternately, phallus disprotrusion, from being sexually imbibed by finger object, in infancy, a barrens, such as Aisha, the rulership of the tradition; “she-male”, with surgery applied, contrary to common myths, created by the UN agents and highschool councils).
