i LOVE when y'all send me tiktok trends bc frankly i haven't actually caught wind of most of them. at the moment my tiktok algorithm can't tell if i like sharks or judge judy more (i truly have no interest in either one) so i do appreciate the assistance.

case in point: i had no idea that this trend was a thing and it is delightful, and yeah, Hazel 100% does it with a particular voicemail Eddie left her:

"Hazel," Eddie starts, his voice muffled like he's trying to whisper, "I don't have much time. I just got an email from Amazon and I think – I think – there's a goddamn colossal package on the front porch, and I reeeeally need you to get it in the house and hide it before Pop and I get home, okay?"

There's a short, somewhat staticky pause.

"I cannot stress enough that your dad is gonna kill me if he sees what I bought. He's still annoyed with me for buying you that fuckin' mini-fridge for your makeup so you totally owe me one – oh shit, here he–"

It's already happening, even here in Oakland.

I was hovering over the Amazon map for my Wednesday stickers when I saw my Amazon driver lady (she's Black, and I keep forgetting to ask her name, so I'll just say Queen bc she's so nice to me/so sweet) having a conversation with some white woman across the ways upon the steps leading up into their entryway.

Thought nothing of it and waited my turn, and when she came over I immediately opened our apartment door for her, which she thanked me immensely for (and she remembers my apartment number 💕).

She was all smiles but told me that that woman wouldn't let her into the building so that she could deliver the building's packages. Queen had her damn Amazon vest on, the Amazon van out front, and had a pile of Amazon packages in her damn hand.

Ugh.

She said, "It's okay," but I told her point blank "No! It's not okay. We're fucked. Everything is fucked." She laughed and agreed, and once we chatted briefly about it/the election, I told her to have a better night and be safe/careful out there.

Racism is everywhere, and it's only going to get worse with the Nazis in power. Better buckle in, kids.

i don't want next day delivery. i want the things i need picked by someone working a living wage and delivered in the least environmentally destructive way by a driver who also gets paid fairly and who has time for bathroom breaks

Amazon Music made a clone of Spotify Wrapped this year! I'm so happy to be able to join in the fun :D (even if the results are mildly embarrassing)

So fun fact: I share this Amazon Music account with my family, and my mom LOVES science podcasts, so the podcast rankings are almost all her. I'm impressed I listened to enough TMA to rival her obsession with TWiV. I also got her and my sister into the Subnautica OST, because I myself love it, which is why Salutations was played 108 times this year (it's the first song on the OST, and we like to listen to the whole album in order).

The Front Bottoms being my top artist is unsurprising but mildly embarrassing all the same. I suppose I really am a teenager, lol. Also, I am NOT in the top 0.5% of MCR listeners, I am a casual fan, I think the users of Amazon Music are just far less likely to be into MCR. And yeah, I did listen to Telephone by Waterparks over and over for a few months this year... that spammed piano key really possessed me.

The fact that my family and I spent the equivalent of 48 straight days listening to music this year... really cool!

About my tanks

Usually wouldn't post this but since it's gone from every so often to twice a week now in my asks or messages. Ranging from well meaning to pretty rude.

I am aware the tank I keep my giants in is too small, I've said so before in posts. The person I got them from said my tank was fine at the time so that's why I went ahead and got them.

I do plan to upgrade the tank but I have a number of limiting factors - Money, I don't have £200-300+ to drop on this tank, new substrate and stronger shelves to hold the extra weight. - No car, anything I'd buy has to be delivered to me which greatly limits my options to local stores or very expensive shipping - Where I live limiting my options. All I can get delivered to me(at a reasonable price) currently is either exoterra tanks or fishtanks with lids that wouldn't work/no lids.

So yes I'm aware of the issues and I'm doing what I can with what I've got until I am able to get a new tank. I've plans in place to hopefully have it sorted by late spring.
