Since Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is out I'm now thinking about my own Suicide Squad. I can't remember if I ever talked about them here.
It's made up of Killer Moth, Firefly, Anarky, Ratcatcher, and an OC of mine. If talked about her before, Lexi. The Riddler henchman. I just wanted a group made up of my favorite "lower-tier" villains.
Killer Moth: Drury was assigned as leader of the group. He's the biggest and physically stronger than the rest. He's also smarter than he lets on, using this as an advantage against others who underestimate him. Waller used him as a lab rat before assigning the team, using a formula similar to Dr. Langstrom's Man-Bat serum. Resulting in a giant moth man soldier. Who's kinda adorable for a giant fluffy moth until he starts tearing people apart and drinking their blood. BUT he's a perfect pillow for the rest of the squad.
Firefly: Garfield needed no convincing to join the Squad. Not that he really had a choice. Once he heard he'd get to burn stuff and blow shit up he was all in. Plus, his buddy Drury was gonna be there so it's a win-win!
Anarky: This kid is smart. Waller saw how good they could be as an asset and took advantage of them. Because we all know Waller isn't opposed to using kids to do her dirty work. Lonnie is an angry kid. Justifiably so. They lash out at their teammates and usually don't listen to anyone and especially not Drury. But as much as they say they're not going to listen to Waller they're still a scared kid afraid of dying. So, they aren't going to tell the person who's got the trigger to the bomb in their neck "no". After a while they start to break down their walls and this kid is just seeking comfort. Eventually, Drury becomes a father figure to them.
Ratcatcher: Otis is PISSED. He did NOT fake his own death just to be found by the government and forced into working for them. At the very least he isn't stuck in a cell and Waller has assured him that his daughter is safe. He's very distant from the team at first, keeping to himself and his rats. Surprisingly the least violent of them all. Slowly starts to grow closer to the group, especially Lonnie. Honestly the entire group become Lonnie's new parents.
I've yet to figure out what they're all going to be fighting against. It can't exactly be a huge threat like Kill the Justice League because let's be honest they would not survive an alien invasion.
#ill add Lexi and the rest later because I don't want to ruin this idea with my silly OC 💔#she's just there as a self insert really and I didn't wanna ruin this silly au with cringe#also Drury and Garf kiss this is a rule#mothfire#bug boyfriends#they need to be real ok#dc#suicide squad#task force x#killer moth#firefly#anarky#ratcatcher#amanda waller#kirk langstrom#drury walker#garfield lynns#lonnie machin#otis flannegan#so many tags

Abstracts
I usually write the abstract for my papers last. Sometimes, I am just not sure what to include and how to make it an interesting "elevator pitch" of my article. I definitely need more practice writing abstracts.
I found a short but very informative journal article on writing abstracts. It includes information on the importance of an abstract, alternative formats, and the key messages of each section of the abstract. I especially liked the example of the process of revising a draft conference abstract. I found the list of abstract types/formats to be very interesting. It included tweetable abstracts, graphical abstracts, and video abstracts. I am not familiar with these formats. I would love to see examples.
The journal article:

I’ve been playing around with a different style recently :) Amanda Lynns is Garfield Lynns’s little sister. She is canon with the comics or at least she was until the New 52 and Rebirth, but I’m not really a fan of those...
Anyway! Enjoy!

I don’t talk about Amanda and Drury enough, but it’s canon that
1. Drury takes Amanda to any villain meetings he knows Joker won’t be present for, which is most of them since he’s a c-lister and thus goes mostly to c-lister meetings, so at any given c-lister meeting there’s a 12-year-old present who is alternating between being a VERY active participant + planner and just talking about bugs to whoever is sitting closest to her
and
2. Whenever anybody asks why he has a kid, he will answer with some variation of “Oh I found her on the street so finder’s keepers or whatever” and if somebody’s like “You can’t just DO that! She’s 12! She’s 12 and you gave her a GUN!” he goes “Well, she doesn’t seem to mind so it’s fine” ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What was your father like Moth?
Ah, I think I mentoined him briefly when I was asked about my mother, but I’ll go more into detail here.
He was a lot tougher and harsher than Mother was, but he was a struggling single father of two children and the economy in Gotham is just terrible. In fact, it was even worse back then than it is now!
He worked many jobs and barely had time for me and my sister Candy, but every weekend, the three of us would sit together and watch the Grey Ghost, starring Simon Trent. It was always the highlight of the week, especially when my favourite Episode, “Red Ghost Run” was on. It was the second Episode of the series where the Gray Ghost comes up against the Red Ghost, an supervillian who matches all his gadgets and tools! Sounds familiar?
I used to say that one day, I’ll be a millionaire and I’ll be able to live like Thomas Wayne. My Sister Candy also dreamed big, she wanted to be a famous model one day! Father always supported our dreams, despite the fact how unlikely it was
The best day of my entire childhood was one Christmas Morning, when he surprised me with this super-rare exclusive action figure of the Red Ghost! Sis got it even better, because he was able to pay for a modeling school to accept her! Thinking back of it, he most likely stole money from all of his jobs to afford this.
The joy would not last long. We were forced to move out when he became very ill and soon lost his eyesight as a result. My Sister did become a decently known model, and he was sure to tune in and hear her whenever she was on TV despite the fact he was now completely blind,
I didn’t do as well as her, so I had to resort to a life of burglary. I was really good at it, too, and managed to steal many millions of dollars before they finally caught me - they never found the money, though!
It was in Arkham that I first found out about the Batman, and I thought that the Underworld of Gotham deserved to have a protector like him and decided that once I’m free, I would take it upon myself to fulfill that role.
I was released after many years of imprisonment, and created two alter egos: Killer Moth and, digging out the loot from years ago, millionare Cameron van Cleer. Unfortunately, I have heard that in my absence, my father has succumbed his illness and Candy has desperately tried to get another modeling contract for years. One of the first things Cameron did was to create a huge fashion show inviting all the big names in Gotham, and invite Candy to appear alongside huge names like Amanda Keeler and even Paige Monre! I never did tell her my true Identity, but I assure you that she was the only one there who knew my true identity! Her career has been pretty stable ever since, too!
What does this have to do with my father, you may ask? Well, I reserved a seat under his name and placed the old Red Ghost figure on it. I know how strange that may sound, but his two children were living their dreams and sometimes, I feel this was Candy’s first performance that he could actually see.
#Walker Family#Drury Walker#Candy Walker#Cameron van Cleer#Thomas Wayne#Amanda Keeler#Paige Monroe#The Gray Ghost#The Red Ghost#OOC I put a lot of references into this#Candy Walker and Amanda Keeler are from the 1989 film#the backstory with Cameron van Cleer was taken from Moth's debut comic#Run Reg Ghost is the second Episode in Simon Trent's collection in TAS

Drury's aunt, Valerie Wilcox, told the The Buffalo News that she fondly recalled the day her sister legally adopted the "sweet, sweet girl" with a capacity for joy that could echo off the walls. On family vacations to Wildwood, New Jersey, Amanda remembers that her sister was the one pulling everyone else into the water.
"Jubilant" was the word her brother, Christopher Moyer, used to describe her. She was a fan of food and life and seemingly every song on the radio he didn't know, he said.
Drury's swings in energy could make it difficult to hold a job, Moyer said. But after he was diagnosed with leukemia, eventually requiring a bone marrow transplant, she rushed to Buffalo eight years ago to be by his side. She babysat his two small children, made grocery trips to help out, and accompanied him on wing runs for his restaurant, The Dalmatia Hotel.
“No matter what she went through. She was full of life," said her friend and neighbor in Buffalo, Krystle Pino, to radio station WGRZ. "Caring, happy, she cared about everyone,”
At the beginning of each day, Pino told the Syracuse Post-Standard, Drury liked to pop her head out the window to yell across the street.
“Good morning, Boo,” Drury would yell. “I love you!”
“I love you, too!” Pino responded in kind.
Drury lived just 10 minutes on foot from the Tops Friendly Markets location on Jefferson Avenue — and on Saturday afternoon, May 14, she walked down the street the same way she always did, Moyer said.
But this time, she didn’t return.
"I knew about the shooting immediately," Moyer said. "All my friends had called me saying, 'Oh my god, I can't believe what happened down the street.'"
Moyer knew a gunman was at their local supermarket. He knew multiple people had been shot. He refused to even imagine that his sister could be involved.
But she wasn't answering the phone. She wasn't at home. His sister's friends began to knock on his door, saying they were worried.
"Little by little," he said, "it began to seep in."
Even before the police called, he began preparing his family for the worst.
She had been among the first victims, they learned. She'd been shot down in the Tops parking lot by a man who’d scrawled a racial slur onto his rifle.
The alleged killer had driven more than 200 miles from his home to Buffalo’s historical Black Main Street. According to police, he left behind a white supremacist manifesto describing his plan to terrorize anyone who didn’t look like him.
By the time police allowed the gunman to lay down his rifle, 13 people had been shot. And 10 lay dead.
Among them was his sister, just 32 years old, who would never again be able to shout her love from her front window, or serenade her sister with Whitney Houston songs over the phone.
"It's hard to know what to say," said Moyer, who said his family is trying to keep it together. He spoke from the hospital, after suffering yet another health setback.
For sister Amanda, Roberta was the one who made sure family gatherings were all about spending boisterous quality time together. "Her vibrancy set a tone," she said.
Moyer’s restaurant, The Dalmatia Hotel, declared itself heartbroken in a Facebook message, calling her a “bright light in the world.”
“To learn that a member of our NorthStar family fell victim to an extremist act of hate, is unfathomable,” wrote Daniel Bowles, superintendent of the North Syracuse Central School District where Drury had attended high school.
As for Drury's neighbor, Pino, she was left to tell her young children that they would never again see their neighbor, she told the Post-Standard.
“I had to explain … she is with God now,” Pino said.

Hello!! Sharing some of the books I bought today :))
The British Are Coming by Rick Atkinson-The first in a trilogy of books about the American Revolution by Pulitzer Prize winning author and historian Rick Atkinson. The book goes into detail about the early years of the revolution from the battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775 to the battles of Trenton and Princeton in winter of 1776-77.
Valley Forge by Bob Drury & Tom Clavin-This book is one the list of recommendations for Amrev material (hey Amanda), so I thought it was about time I read it. This book is of course about the Continental Army during its time at Valley Forge, and how the army metamorphosed into a more organized fighting force during that time.
