For at least 70,000 years, our ancestors have used makeup as a status symbol, a form of expression and a show of strength, striking fear into the hearts of their enemies.

I firmly believe that society as a whole would be greatly improved if all men, and all other masculine presenting individuals, regularly exersized their right to particpate in the ancient art of applying makeup. Most importantly, to practice their right to decorate themselves in the cosmetic product most commonly referred to by the general public as ’guyliner’. In this essay I will-

I know it's not entirely your decision and you built on what the canon did but I'm curious how you see it so here's my silly question: why IS Moody so useful as a teacher to our protagonists? I mean he's actually competent and useful. WHY?

I was always more or less satisfied with the explanation that he's trying to impersonate a teacher, so he really needs to go full method on the teaching part, or a whole lot of people are going to start asking questions. Also, I don't really see a reason for him to be bad at it, if that makes sense? He needs Harry to do well in the Tournament so he can reach the cup, which gives him an extra incentive to be helpful to Harry's class, even if no one else's. But I don't think Barty is remotely concerned about Harry becoming so competent that he would represent a threat to Voldemort or his servants, since he's still a child. Fourteen year-old Harry Potter does not walk out of that graveyard if it's a fair fight, and Barty doesn't know about the twin cores, so he fully expects Voldemort to just ice the kid and be done with it. Unforgivables are unblockable; there's nothing he can teach Harry in a year that will really matter.

What trips me up about Barty Crouch Jr., in canon, is that he seems so intimately familiar with Moody's mannerisms despite never actually having, like... met the dude? As far as we know? We assume that Moody's a big figure in the war, so he'd know him from afar, but considering the histories here, this is an objectively insane plan: Moody and Dumbledore fought a war together. So did Snape. So like... Barty's plan (afaik) is basically to pray, with every bone in his body, that he can go for a whole year without anyone bringing up any sensitive memories or important shared moments with Moody that might give him away if he can't remember them. In addition to, y'know, completely nailing his posture, mannerisms and speech affect, which maybe the Polyjuice helps with, but IDK. (My point is that the behind-the-scenes staff meetings in Goblet of Fire are some of the funniest exchanges in the whole fucking series, and I would pay to read them.)

Then, of course, you have Snape — and this is the other thing that kinda frustrates me about Book 5, in retrospect — who's a Legilimens. Literally reads minds. Which jeopardizes basically any plot that relies on people having secrets or keeping information from Snape/Dumbledore. It's not by any means an unsolvable plot hole — you can invent a lot of theoretical constraints on Legilimency that explain why Snape couldn't use it on Quirrell, or you could just establish that Barty/Quirrell are really strong Occlumens, which makes plenty of sense to me — or you could just say that Snape is a far better Occlumens than he is a Legilimens, and his attempts at training Harry weren't all that sophisticated. Not hard. That's why it doesn't bother me, either, because I do't think it represents a major inconsistency or fault in plotting; I try to lean into good-faith reading and assume that plot holes are more often indications of insufficient exposition than they are lack of thought. But that's a big YMMV.

so Ashley right, i 1000000% imagine her to grow up as a wannabe scene kid, listens to Avril Lavigne, had those tumblr chokers n everything. Larry probably taught her to do eyeliner, and i like to think their friend group kinda encouraged her to find her own aesthetic throughout secondary school? Muncie’s Moth Danner

Muncie’s art scene is full of influential characters and events. One of the more well-known residents is a woman known by the name Moth Danner. A 7th generation native, Moth has seen Muncie go through its changes. Growing up in a bookstore fueled her with a desire for literature and art. In one video interview, she said that growing up she would grab any book at arm’s reach and read. Her favorite? The play A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare. She was enamored by Titania’s fairy court which would become useful later in life. Coming of age in Muncie’s 80’s punk culture, she was part of the alternative scene. When she wasn’t finding hidden shows in abandoned buildings she was experimenting with self-image. These people skills led to her professional life as an IU graduate with a degree in Psychology and an ordained priest.

Moth and her mother Susan

She gave herself the name Moth while doing performance art in New York City to allow herself to flee in secrecy from the police during shows. The idea was struck when a fellow artist, friend, and Shakespeare lover shared a show with Moth. They chose names from the fairies in Titania’s court which included Moth, Cobweb, Peaseblossom, and Mustardseed. Cobweb was too Goth so Moth chose Moth. The name stuck and has followed her ever since.

Like Titania, Moth knows where her court stands. Her punk friends aka freaks were acquired due to the alternative and body mod scene of the punk groups of Muncie. Regardless of which scene she is in, Moth is a welcoming face in Muncie. This is due to her grassroots ideals and efforts to encourage small businesses and the arts.

She is a board member on the Muncie Arts and Culture Council; creator of the Muncie Makers Market, Sunday Stitch n’ Bitch, Cuplet poetry night; current head of YART; and previous owner of Dominion nightclub and vintage clothing store Savoy; and co-owner of Danner’s Bookstore (sadly, all of these shops have been closed). Alongside Minnetrista’s Farmers Market on Saturdays Moth’s Muncie Makers Market has helped weave together the community. She got the idea for a makers market when she and her mother began making and selling pies in a nearby town’s market. Moth saw an opportunity for something Muncie needed. 

Only homegrown sellers and handmade wares are allowed. A similar concept came with YART, a program Moth inherited from Ball State Art students that started in the 1970′s, a twice a year massive maker’s market focused on selling local art. 

Whether she is creating a space for a vent session at The Cup’s Bitch n’ Stitch or seen orchestrating another great happening, Moth combines the alternative scene with a grassroots ethos to shine another great light on Muncie.
