More time questions from me, but it seems like I’m not the only one who loves this god. Who are his and malons kids, ( I know you mentioned he had eight… which my god that’s a whole nother post ) whats there name are they like do they know that there dad is like a god,
Good question!
Actually, the eight kids I mentioned in the original character sheets were meant to be the rest of the Chain. You know, because he feels responsible for him and will (eventually) see them all as his boys. (Except Four, but they’re still his kid, as far as he’s concerned.) Although now, the with addition of Ravio and a secret other one, we can boost that number up to ten. Or, depending on how you’re looking around it, thirteen.
As for his biological children, I’m thinking of giving him and Malon twins first, and then a younger third baby. I’m very heavily considering Time’s children already being born by the time he meets the Cryptid Chain so I’ve actually been doing a lot of thinking on this recently! I’m still on the fence about it, though. But his twin girls and little son will happen eventually, and that’s a promise.
Thanks for asking!

Oh now THIS is gorgeous
Kurogane alone in darkness, framed in trappings of his own room in the world he fought so hard to return too, moon shining brightly overhead, and all he can do is sit awake and think about Sakura in Acid Tokyo specifically. Just incredible all around.
Tumblr media
OOOH IT GETS BETTER
The memories split into shards of glass, like they’ve done quite a few times throughout the series. Kurogane remembers a lot of her earlier moments, like Piffle, and Outo, and Jade. But then the lower the page gets the more we transition into Fai doing the same thing, but standing alone above the water, looking down at it in silence. We can see the moon reflected back at him, and we can also see his own reflection looking back. And GOD what a gut punch that could be on its own - a mirror of himself, just like the twin he’s finally put to rest, just like the Sakura he fought so hard to save but failed. And we can see the memories he recalls too - but he’s thinking of times further into their journey, specifically Acid Tokyo and Infinity, and the moments he shared with her where they were their closest. Sakura’s determination, Fai swearing his loyalty to her, and Sakura’s final words of comfort to him as she died the first time due to his curse.
Tumblr media
Eventually he DOES look up at the sky - perhaps done dwelling on the moments that hurt him the most, or perhaps galvanised in his own determination to save her even more than before.
Meanwhile the shards of memory all turn to ones between Sakura and Syaoran, which makes me think Lava Lamp must be on the next page - even though, like, these moments weren’t specifically with HIM in them, I suppose he did second hand live them all the same. Outo and Hanshin and Piffle - oh and Infinity! That one WAS him.
Lava Lamp’s head must be a mess after all this.
Tumblr media
OOP YEAH THERE HE IS, ALONE ON THE ROOF. WITH HIS BACK TO THE MOON ENTIRELY. And this page is entirely memories of moments between Sakura and Syaoran (Outo, Koryo, Hanshin, Jade, Shara, etc) - specifically not Lava Lamp, though he definitely appears to have felt the moments in the same way. Even though THIS Sakura has turned him down, and left him for the other Sakura. The other Sakura who, specifically, lived through NONE of these moments, and won’t remember any of them at all, and he knows this now, so he must be thinking uniquely of Clone Sakura in this moment.
Clone Sakura who quite deliberately is not Real Sakura, but based on these memories I’d LOVE to untangle Lava Lamp’s thoughts about who he has feelings for, and how much of them are based on something they didn’t do and moments neither of them shared.
See also: Evil Wolverine is now also claiming that Real Sakura was accidentally incinerated in chapter 1 and doesn't even exist anymore BUT SURELY NOT, RIGHT??? SURELY SOMEONE WOULD HAVE HAD A VISION OF THAT????????
I'm conflicted so I'm pretending he didn't say anything
Tumblr media
OOP AND THEN WE CIRCLE ALL THE WAY BACK TO CLOW, AND THE BEGINNING OF THEIR STORY - OR
SPECIFICALLY
REAL SAKURA’S MOMENTS WITH CLONE SYAORAN, WHILE REAL SYAORAN WATCHED, WHICH CLONE SAKURA DOESN’T REMEMBER, AND MAY NEVER REMEMBER, AND MAY OR MAY NOT BE SOUL DEAD, AND REAL SAKURA MAY OR MAY NOT BE DOUBLE DEAD, BUT....?

Thinking about the season 5 finale of Buffy and about how she has spent the whole season grappling with the idea that maybe at her core she isn’t different from the monsters she fights-- born to kill until she herself is killed, and how she has spent the season feeling like she’s losing her humanity, and her going catatonic, telling Willow from within that unconscious state that she has guilt because part of her has come to the conclusion that this is the fight she loses and that part of her wants it to just happen, and Willow acknowledging how tired she must be after a lifetime of fighting, (underscored by the episode’s “previously on Buffy” showing her whole life, horror after wave of horror that never ends, which is capped by her slaying a vampire (because even in the apocalypse the drudge work never never never ends) saving a man who, bewildered, tells her she’s just a girl and her saying “that’s what I keep telling them”) followed by her telling Giles she doesn’t see the point if everything keeps getting stripped away. She doesn’t know how to live in the world, if these are the choices.
Thinking about how Dawn is this expression of her innocence. There are such good moments of it around Spike and School (a love where she feels truly safe and opportunities beyond slaying, Buffy’s unmet desires.) Dawn’s literally made of Buffy and how Buffy describes Dawn as her, as “the one part of me I still--” (love? have hope for?)  How she and the rest of the Scoobies have protected Dawn and shielded her from things it never even occurred to anyone to shield Buffy from because it wasn’t an option. Thinking about how we barely bat an eye and Bangel but even though Dawn has a crush on Spike we never think he’ll act on it. Yes he’s eternal just like Angel was and Dawn is 16 just like Buffy was, but Dawn is a child.
Thinking about how, as real as those feelings of love for Dawn are for Buffy, in reality Dawn is either a key which is not human (not truly a “life,”) or she’s a human girl just like Buffy, whose life is not worth more or less than Buffy’s own. Except, where Buffy’s head has been barreling all season is that the work she has done as a Slayer makes her worth less, it makes her tainted by death. More tainted than her sister. (And she didn’t have a lovely pep talk from Spike telling her “i’m not good, but I’m alright,” (yet) only her innocence got that pep talk.) So even though Dawn has offered to do the job of closing the gate by the end of the finale, (which is technically her job as the key,) and even though the idea of a 16 year old dying to stop the apocalypse should not be strange to us because Buffy already did that once, (which is not to say that’s a good option, but to say there were options,) Buffy wants to die this time. So so different from when she faced the Master. She fights as hard as she can, yes, but when it comes to that moment where she decides to jump... she commits suicide at the end of season 5, and because it stops an apocalypse it gets framed as a heroic moment by everyone else.  But she is exhausted. She thinks she is broken. But Dawn isn’t. She never got to have a childhood, but maybe Dawn could. Maybe it could all just be over.
And then they bring her back, and the first thing she does is go back to the top of that tower to jump again.

There are people – some in my own Party – who think that if you just give Donald Trump everything he wants, he’ll make an exception and spare you some of the harm. I’ll ignore the moral abdication of that position for just a second to say — almost none of those people have the experience with this President that I do. I once swallowed my pride to offer him what he values most — public praise on the Sunday news shows — in return for ventilators and N95 masks during the worst of the pandemic. We made a deal. And it turns out his promises were as broken as the BIPAP machines he sent us instead of ventilators. Going along to get along does not work – just ask the Trump-fearing red state Governors who are dealing with the same cuts that we are. I won’t be fooled twice.
I’ve been reflecting, these past four weeks, on two important parts of my life: my work helping to build the Illinois Holocaust Museum and the two times I’ve had the privilege of reciting the oath of office for Illinois Governor.
As some of you know, Skokie, Illinois once had one of the largest populations of Holocaust survivors anywhere in the world. In 1978, Nazis decided they wanted to march there.
The leaders of that march knew that the images of Swastika clad young men goose stepping down a peaceful suburban street would terrorize the local Jewish population – so many of whom had never recovered from their time in German concentration camps.
The prospect of that march sparked a legal fight that went all the way to the Supreme Court. It was a Jewish lawyer from the ACLU who argued the case for the Nazis – contending that even the most hateful of speech was protected under the first amendment.
As an American and a Jew, I find it difficult to resolve my feelings around that Supreme Court case – but I am grateful that the prospect of Nazis marching in their streets spurred the survivors and other Skokie residents to act. They joined together to form the Holocaust Memorial Foundation and built the first Illinois Holocaust Museum in a storefront in 1981 – a small but important forerunner to the one I helped build thirty years later.
I do not invoke the specter of Nazis lightly. But I know the history intimately — and have spent more time than probably anyone in this room with people who survived the Holocaust. Here’s what I’ve learned – the root that tears apart your house’s foundation begins as a seed – a seed of distrust and hate and blame.
The seed that grew into a dictatorship in Europe a lifetime ago didn’t arrive overnight. It started with everyday Germans mad about inflation and looking for someone to blame.
I’m watching with a foreboding dread what is happening in our country right now. A president who watches a plane go down in the Potomac – and suggests — without facts or findings — that a diversity hire is responsible for the crash. Or the Missouri Attorney General who just sued Starbucks – arguing that consumers pay higher prices for their coffee because the baristas are too “female” and “nonwhite.” The authoritarian playbook is laid bare here: They point to a group of people who don’t look like you and tell you to blame them for your problems.
I just have one question: What comes next? After we’ve discriminated against, deported or disparaged all the immigrants and the gay and lesbian and transgender people, the developmentally disabled, the women and the minorities – once we’ve ostracized our neighbors and betrayed our friends – After that, when the problems we started with are still there staring us in the face – what comes next.
All the atrocities of human history lurk in the answer to that question. And if we don’t want to repeat history – then for God’s sake in this moment we better be strong enough to learn from it.
I swore the following oath on Abraham Lincoln’s Bible: “I do solemnly swear that I will support the constitution of the United States, and the constitution of the state of Illinois, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of Governor .... according to the best of my ability.
My oath is to the Constitution of our state and of our country. We don’t have kings in America – and I don’t intend to bend the knee to one. I am not speaking up in service to my ambitions — but in deference to my obligations.
If you think I’m overreacting and sounding the alarm too soon, consider this:
It took the Nazis one month, three weeks, two days, eight hours and 40 minutes to dismantle a constitutional republic. All I’m saying is when the five-alarm fire starts to burn, every good person better be ready to man a post with a bucket of water if you want to stop it from raging out of control.
Those Illinois Nazis did end up holding their march in 1978 – just not in Skokie. After all the blowback from the case, they decided to march in Chicago instead. Only twenty of them showed up. But 2000 people came to counter protest. The Chicago Tribune reported that day that the “rally sputtered to an unspectacular end after ten minutes.” It was Illinoisans who smothered those embers before they could burn into a flame.
Tyranny requires your fear and your silence and your compliance. Democracy requires your courage. So gather your justice and humanity, Illinois, and do not let the “tragic spirit of despair” overcome us when our country needs us the most.
