Atelier - PT 1
Hello everyone, I apologize for the long gap! This is a mini series that may run 3 or 4 chapters. Enjoy!
Mitsuya x Reader, suggestive, brief smut, slow burn. (Timeskip Mitsuya from Bonten Timeline) NO MINORS PLEASE! MDNI!
Part 1 - Lace
Love wasn’t something you really believed in, it was always something that you would see in movies or hear in songs. When couples would walk down the street showing affection towards each other, it made you feel a little sick - there was nothing wrong with them but your brain and heart couldn’t process it as you never felt love before. Relationships never lasted, you couldn’t get attached to anyone and when you were finally feeling something - the other partner would call it quits. Nights were often spent alone, sex was just sex with no real attachment and it was just a give and take. Then, things spiraled out of control when you met him.
You found this person online while searching for a tailor who could fix a dress that belonged to your mother - it was her wedding dress. You promised her you would keep it safe and either hand it to your siblings, nieces, your kids or even wear it yourself if you ever got married. The last two were now nothing but a joke, still you promised to keep it safe. Unfortunately, it got a little damaged when moving. After days of searching around you finally found someone who wasn’t charging an arm and a leg for the alterations and repairs. It was simple - rehemming and fixing the zipper, so you were excited to find someone who was giving a fair price. The guy was barely starting his business and you could tell that he was eager to take on new things that will help build his portfolio. A few exchanged emails and calls, you both agreed for a time and date to bring in the dress.
With the phone in your hands, you dialed the man’s number and waited for him to pick up. After two rings, he picked up with a sweet, “Hello?” His voice was so soft and soothing. “Hi Mr. Mitsuya - it’s (y/n), I’m downstairs.” You say and he responds by saying he’s on his way down. When he opened the door to let you in - you were taken back a bit, he was young and handsome. You half expected an older gentleman to be the person in contact. He was dressed in your typical work attire, had measuring tape around his neck, a pin cushion on his wrist and sketching pencil tucked behind his ear. Wow, he’s beautiful… You think to yourself. The warm and inviting smile on his face made you feel something new. “It’s nice to meet you, please come in.” His voice sounded so much better in person than it did over the phone. You nodded and followed him up the stairs. Upon entering you noticed his place was a small atelier, he was the only one there and didn’t have any other assistants or employees.
Scattered along the tables were multiple fabrics, spools of colored threads, pins and different cutting materials. There was also a couch, a few different tables, stools, and mirrors. He had about 4 mannequins dressed with various dresses and outfits, they were beautiful - was he tailoring them for someone or perhaps…were these his? You felt your eyes wander around, until they finally landed on a few completed sketches on his desk where the sewing machine was. Noticing that you were looking around, he spoke. “I apologize for the mess.” You gave him a reassuring smile. “Are these your designs? They’re beautiful.” He nodded, he noticed how your eyes sparked when looking over the designs - it was something he rarely sees when having clients over. “May I take a look at the dress?” You got lost in following the patterns and colors on the paper, you almost forgot what you came here for. “Oh, yes - sorry about that.” He chuckled and cleared the table so you could lay out the dress.
Unzipping the garment bag, you pulled the dress out and laid it on the table letting Mitsuya examine the condition of the fabric and threading style. “It’s a beautiful dress, you said this was your mother’s?” He asked as he ran his fingers across the fabric and pulled it closer for him to admire the pattern of the lace. “Yes, I promised I would take good care of it.” You glanced up and noticed the expression on his face, he was so concentrated but his facial features still remained soft. A small shiver went down your spine as you unknowingly admired his handsome features. The delicate way his hands ran over the fabric started giving you palpitations, making you bite your lip and slowly exhale. What is going with me? He spoke, snapping you out of your thoughts. “There are a few areas that require some alterations, it looks like some of the fabric was torn - if it’s not repaired, it can fray and come apart.” Oh no. That’s what you were afraid of, having irreparable damage to the dress that no tailor can fix. “Is there a set time frame you need this in? We can set a timeline for alterations and fittings.” Huh? Was he assuming you were going to use this dress for a wedding? “Oh there is no rush and I’m not getting married.” You snickered and waved your hands in front of you in a ‘no way’ manner. “Oh, I’m sorry - I didn’t mean to make assumptions.” His soft smile had some heat rushing to your cheeks. “Well, I’ll still need you to try it on to make sure it’s to your liking. The mannequins are really sample sizes and wouldn’t do justice to a dress like this.” Smooth, he unconsciously threw a compliment at you that made you blush even harder.
Mitsuya gave you an estimated timeline and encouraged you to stop by any time to check in on the dress. He would also send periodic updates by text but apologized in advance if he sends them at an odd hour. When he gets to work on something, he loses track of time and doesn’t realize that sometimes he would be working 12 hours straight without a break. He walked you out of the atelier and he extended his hand out to you. “I’ll take good care of her. Again, please feel free to check in at any time.” You nodded and reached out to shake his hand. Calloused fingers and a gentle squeeze swallowed your small hands. “Thank you so much, I look forward to it.” Both of you remained still when your eyes met, his lavender eyes were captivating, there was something gnawing at both of you that didn’t allow for the handshake to break. That is until…
“TAKA CHAAAAN!” A loud booming voice made you both release at the same time, you turned towards the direction of where the yell came from. “You’re too loud Hakkai…” Mitsuya says as he smiles and steals a few glances while you were distracted, though he was a little embarrassed that everyone was now staring at them. “I guess that’s my queue, it was a pleasure meeting you. See you later.” You waved and began to walk away. The man who approached Mitsuya was tall, taller than him and had a vertical scar on his lip and a goofy smile. “Who was that?” He asks, inquisitively as he watches your hips sway as you walk. “A client. So, what brings you here today? You have a day off?” Mitsuya asks as he begins to walk back inside to his atelier.
As you made your way back home, you couldn’t stop thinking about the tailor - he was handsome and professional. You wondered if he was seeing someone or if work was his life, well a guy like that must have a girlfriend, right? Thoughts kept going back to the way he touched the fabric, you could almost feel his fingertips on your skin - No, he’s just doing his job. Don’t get carried away (y/n). You think to yourself as you try to shake the warmth growing in the pit of your stomach. Your thoughts were interrupted by your phone vibrating in your pocket. Taking it out to see an incoming call from your partner. “Hey.” The tone in your voice was dry, it wasn’t a serious relationship, not with how you were taking things - it was just really for you to try and get off. “Understood, I’ll see you tonight.” Ending the call with a sigh, you headed home to get ready for tonight. By 10:00pm you were sitting at the bar waiting for the guy to show up while downing drinks to pass the time. You were approached by a few men who were eying you nonstop, they were eying your thighs as they tried to hit on you, their intentions were clear. “No thank you. I’m waiting on someone.” You say repeatedly as they fail each and every time to get your number.
Finally, the guy showed up after 45 minutes, you were just about to call it a night as it was starting to look like he was gonna be a no show. “Sorry babe, did I make you wait long?” He asks as he leans in to place a tender kiss on your lips. He tasted like bitter alcohol and cigarettes. This asshole was at another bar. You think to yourself as he pulls away. Things were quick - you ended up at his place within the hour, face down on his mattress as he thrusted lazily into you. “You’re quiet tonight, what’s wrong? Not feeling up to it?” He asked as he noticed that you were lost in thought, you couldn’t even bring yourself to moan or pant for him. He was right, you weren’t really in the mood but still went with it anyways, the only reason why you were able to get a little aroused in the first place was because you were thinking of someone else. “I was just thinking - maybe we should call it quits.” You blurted out, not even looking at him to analyze the expression on his face. “I mean, it’s whatever - can I still call you though? It won’t make much of a difference as to how we are now.” His honesty was a little brutal. “Um, sure…” You say softly as you close your eyes and try to swallow your pride. He chuckled and began to thrust harder into you, making you fist the sheets beneath you - it was starting to hurt. It only took him about a minute before his hips started stuttering and he was letting out loud groans, signaling his release. That one minute felt like an eternity, an eternity in hell. He pulled out - taking off the condom, tying it and throwing it in the trash, then throwing himself on the other side of the bed as you tried to sit up to get dressed. You struggled a bit as there was an uncomfortable sensation on your hips and core, making it difficult to quickly get out of there.
Once you arrived home, you collapsed to the floor, clutching your lower abdomen - the pain knocked the wind out of your lungs as you tried to breathe. You shouldn’t have let him finish - the lubricant on the condom wasn’t enough. Taking a few painkillers to help alleviate some of the pain, you begin to draw a warm bath in hopes that it will soothe the pain. That and you just wanted his scent off of your body. While sitting in the warm water, your phone pings with a notification and you see it’s a text message with an attachment. It was around 2:00am, so you assumed that it was going to be your now ex partner - probably already asking to see you tomorrow night and sending you a photo of his dick. When you checked your phone, you saw that the message came from the Tailor - Mitsuya. Your heart skipped a beat, you had completely forgotten about his warning - it made you smile. Opening the attachment, you saw that he was sending you a few close ups of the areas that were being repaired. His message read:
Sorry for the late text, this part here will be worked on tomorrow, can you stop by for some measurements? I apologize for not taking them earlier today.
End Message.
Mitsuya was not expecting an immediate reply as it was late in the night but was surprised when you replied almost immediately.
Hey, no worries. What time would you like for me to stop by?
End Message.
He felt a slight blush creep up his cheeks, you were so casual and not bothered at all at this late night message. Curiosity began to gnaw at him, what the hell could you be doing up so late at night or did he interrupt something intimate? He replied with an ‘anytime is fine’, something else was tugging at him - he was looking forward to seeing you.
The next morning, you got up, got ready and headed to Mitsuya’s atelier. When you arrived at the building, there was an old woman who was out in front - she was sweeping the entryway. She looks like the landlord of the building. As you were about to pull out your phone to call, she asked you if you were here to see Takashi. “Oh um, Mr. Mitsuya - yes.” She gently smiled and opened the front door for you, you thanked her and bowed. Heading up the stairs, you noticed that the door to the room was ajar. You knocked, however there was no response and there was no noise coming from the inside. “Mr. Mitsuya? It’s (y/n), are you here?” Still nothing, you pushed the door slowly open and saw that he was laying on the couch, sleeping - he looked exhausted. There were butterflies in your stomach when you saw the top buttons on his shirt undone, giving you a peek at his collarbones and neck. I'll come back later. You think to yourself and begin to walk towards the door when…
"TAKA CHAN! I brought you breakfast!" The loud booming voice startled you and made you squeak in surprise. The man in the doorway went completely silent and had a serious expression on his face when he saw you. You could hear Mitsuya groaning behind you, “Hakkai, you’re too loud - oh, Ms. (y/n).” Turning around to face him with a red face, he smiled softly and apologized for both him and Hakkai. “I’m so sorry, the door was open and I um - I can come back at a later time if you want to get some rest.” Mitsuya was quick to wave his hands saying no. “I made you come all the way here, please - take a seat, give me 5 minutes to prep.” Hakkai was actually a lifesaver, he wouldn’t have woken up if Hakkai didn’t yell out his name. You nodded and took a seat on the couch, it was still warm and his scent lingered - you felt your core pulse and a new feeling that was burning in your chest. “Um, haven’t I seen you before? You must be the male model - Mr. Shiba, is that correct?” You asked Hakkai as he took a seat by Mitsuya’s sewing station, he was looking away and you thought he was ignoring you or that he didn’t like you. “Don’t mind him, he’s really shy around women…” Mitsuya says as he walks off to another room. Oh thank goodness, you thought you offended him or something.
Mitsuya had asked you to step inside the other room and he closed the door behind him, leaving Hakkai to eat his breakfast alone. “Are you sure this is ok? I can come back later?” You ask as you begin to take your jacket off. You were wearing a black high waisted pencil skirt with a white button up blouse. This choice of clothing wasn’t on purpose or anything but they complimented your figure so well that Mitsuya blushed a bit. He was used to client fittings, hell even seeing women in their undergarments, but you were something different. “Are you wearing any padding?” Huh? You looked confused. “Padding? Like a fake ass?” What followed was him bursting in laughter. “No, no - I mean in your bra.” God you felt like a moron, you should have known better and you made a fool out of yourself. “Oh, n-no, I’m not.” You say almost in a whisper and look away, still feeling the embarrassment from your response. He smiled and said not to sweat it. “Ok, please take your shoes off and stand here - let your arms hang on your sides loosely…” You followed his instructions, however, your heart was beating out of your chest when he got so close. His fingers ghosted over you as he was taking the measurements, you were starting to feel warm, goosebumps now riddled your skin when he would accidentally touch your skin. “Miss? Are you ok? Would you like to sit down?” Mitsuya asked as he heard your unsteady breathing. “I’m ok - it’s just a little warm in here, that’s all.” You respond while fanning your face with your hand. He nodded and continued, when he was taking your waist measurements, you felt your slick pooling - he was so close. “Almost done, now we just need to do your bust measurements. Please extend your arms out for me in a T.” You did as instructed. The moment he closed the distance to wrap the measuring tape around your body - you softly exhaled, he could hear the shakiness in your breath. “You may relax your arms…” You put your arms down and felt him pull you close with the measuring tape. He had a soft grin on his face, the way your body was reacting to his touch - he caught it all.
Your knees were getting weaker by the second as you looked up at him, his lavender orbs were soft and drowning you in anticipation. “...wow his eyes are beautiful…” “Thanks.” Oh shit, you said that out loud and now your face was as red as a tomato. “Oh my god, I’m so sorry…I didn’t mean to stare.” You say while covering your face. Mitsuya could only chuckle and smile, “That’s ok, I appreciate the compliment. Most women just try to go straight for the kill.” He was referring to past clients who stripped almost bare for measurements, though he repeatedly told them that it wasn’t necessary. You felt bad for him, that was a rude of them to do - especially when he’s trying his hardest to be professional. “I’m sorry, I promise I won't do that.” You laugh and begin to put your shoes on. Ouch, he felt a slight sting - you really didn’t mean it like that. You meant it more as ‘I will respect your space’. “Oh, don't put them back on yet - I need for you to try on the dress for me to make sure that alterations are done accordingly.” He says as he walks out the room. You could see Hakkai still sitting by Mitsuya’s sewing machine, just scrolling through his phone. “Taka Chan, Yuzuha will be mad if we’re late.” Hearing another woman’s name shook you out of your dream state. That’s right he must have a girlfriend, so why are you feeling a little jealous?
Mitsuya brought the dress back in the room and asked you to try it on so that he can mark any additional places that need alterations. Smooth. You nodded and began to take your clothes off when he exited the room. About 2 minutes in, you poke your head out the door looking for Mitsuya. “Um, Mr. Mitsuya? I need help.” You say as you spot him on the couch with Hakkai. He stood up and walked over to you. “The zipper.” You say quietly. “Oh that’s right.” He says innocently as he walks into the room. He wasn’t prepared for what he was about to see. The dress looked gorgeous on you, his heart skipped a beat and he felt the blush creep over his face. “It looks bad on me, doesn’t it?” You say shyly, he was staring at you almost wide eyed and his mouth was slightly agape. He cleared his throat and tried to speak. “No, not at all. You look beautiful. Whoever is lucky enough to marry you will get to see you in this and he’ll be the happiest man in the world.” He was a little too honest, he thought he overstepped his boundaries when your face went bright red and you clutched the top of the dress. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…” You immediately cut him off, “That’s the nicest thing any man has ever said to me.” You say while turning around, you completely forgot that your lace undergarments would be on full display.
There was a tightening sensation in his trousers, out of all the women who have stripped almost bare for him - you were the most gorgeous of them all. “I um…I’m going to place a few clips starting from the bottom end of the zipper - please let me know if it’s too tight.” Mitsuya’s voice was right behind your neck as he was pulling the fabric gently so that it wrapped around your body perfectly. Your brain short circuited when you realized that the back was completely exposed. Your body completely froze when you felt his hand graze your lower back - he could see the goosebumps on your skin, you were subconsciously reacting to his touch. When reached the top, his fingers ran down your back to check that nothing felt too tight or too loose. You let out a soft moan by accident, you immediately clasped your hands over your mouth and stood still. There was silence in the room for almost 5 whole seconds, you could only hear your heartbeat and panic started to take over. Mitsuya broke the silence by chuckling and slowly turning you around to face him. “That was a first…it was cute.” You couldn’t look at him, you were staring down at the floor, too embarrassed to look him in the eye. His hand cupped your chin, tilting it up so your eyes could meet. “I hope I didn’t offend you or overstep my boundaries.” The soft smile on his face melted your worries and made your heart throb uncontrollably.
“No, I’m sorry. That was very unprofessional of me.” You say trying to keep your composure. The blush on your face really made Mitsuya almost close the distance. “Like I said before, all the other women go for the kill immediately. You are the most polite and most well behaved client I’ve ever had.” He was trying to make you feel a little better, it was working. He took a few steps back to analyze how the dress fit and pulled out his cellphone to take pictures of the areas that needed alterations. “Turn around for me.” The husky tone had butterflies running rampant in your stomach. He was taking pictures of the back side and marking spots that needed extra attention. “All set, you may get dressed.” You turned around and pulled his arm, stopping him before he walked out the door. “I um, can’t reach some of the clips…” You say softly, still blushing. You were lying - you were more than capable of taking them off but you wanted to feel his touch just one more time. He smiled and reached directly behind you - wrapping his arms around your waist to begin pulling the clips off. He was so close, you could feel the warmth radiating from him - his scent was intoxicating, his lavender eyes were focused on your plush lips and you almost went in for the kill. “...Thank you.” You say softly as he retracted his arms and gave you a nod. The moment he stepped out and closed the door behind him - you slowly sank into the floor. What am I doing? You think to yourself as you clutch your chest.
After getting dressed, you exited the room and saw another person in the atelier - a woman. She was gorgeous. It made a pang echo in your chest, could she be his girlfriend? If she was, you felt completely ashamed for everything that happened behind the closed door. “Ms. (y/n), you may leave the dress on the table right over there please.” Mitsuya says with a smile on his face. You nod and place the dress on the table. The woman turned around and looked you over - her eyes were amber and you felt inferior, she was like the sun and you were just a shadow. “Congratulations! Mitsuya told me that he’s working on your wedding dress.” She said with a soft smile on her face. Even her voice was beautiful. “She’s not getting married, Yuzuha. She’s just getting it repaired for her mother.” Mitsuya corrected her with a laugh. “Oh, I’m so sorry.” She responds with a laugh as well. “Oh, no worries. Thank you though.” Hakkai was still staring off into the distance until Yuzuha talked to him. The man did a 180 and was chattering away with a huge smile on his face. “Here, let me walk you out.” MItsuya said as he escorted you down the stairs. “Have a good day, bye bye.” You say as you wave to the two. Hakkai went silent again and Yuzuha waved goodbye.
Once outside, you bowed and were about to walk away when Mitsuya gripped your arm. “She’s not my girlfriend if you’re wondering. She’s like a sister to me, actually both Hakkai and her are siblings.” He had no idea why he needed to clarify that to you. A sense of relief washed over you. You were on the verge of apologizing a thousand times to him for today. There was a light pink dusting his face. You giggled, he knew that he had given a little more away than he wanted. “Duly noted, Takashi.” He almost had a stroke when he heard you say his name. The way it rolled off your tongue with such ease and playfulness - he knew he wanted to see you some more.

“Repeat after me,” instructed the minister, standing before the bride and groom. “I, Rowan…”
“I, Rowan,” the silver-haired man repeated.
“Take thee, Lyria…”
“Take thee, Aelin…”
Shocked gasps spread through the chapel as it took Rowan a moment to realize his mistake. Eyes flying wide, he gripped Lyria’s hand tighter who was staring at him in disbelief.
“Lyria. Lyria.” Rowan emphasized with a forced chuckle.
Stunned, the minister leaned toward Lyria before asking hesitantly, “Shall I go on?”
From her seat a few aisles back, Aelin gaped as she listened to Rowan. He said her name. Her name.
It had to mean something, right? A groom doesn’t just same the wrong name during his wedding for no reason, right? Did he still want her? Love her? Like she loved him?
“He,” Aelin stuttered, leaning forward to whispering the ear of the woman sitting in front of her, “he said Aelin, right? Do you think I should go up there?” The woman didn’t pay her any attention, focused on the scene at the head of the chapel.
The minister was still waiting on Lyria to respond as she tried not to meet the eyes of people looking on with surprise and pity.
“Yes, yes, do go on.” She decided, forcing a calm expression over her humiliation and anger.
The minister nodded and announced, “I think we’d better start again. Rowan, repeat after me. I, Rowan…”
Rowan cleared his throat and said, “I, Rowan,”
“Take thee, Ly-ri-a” the minister dragged out the woman’s name as if speaking to a child.
Rowan shot an exasperated glare at the officiant but looked down at the brunette and repeated, “Take thee, Lyria.” She glared at him and forced another chuckle from his lips as he turned towards the guests and joked, “Like there’d be anybody else.”
Even Aelin cringed at the horrible attempt at humor, but it was no match for the way Lyria was glaring daggers at him.
“As my lawfully wedded wife, in sickness and in health, till death parts us.” The minister continued.
“As my lawfully wedded wife, in sickness and in health, until death parts us.” Rowan leaned in closer, “Really, I do. Lyria.”
People were still muttering as the minister asked for the rings.
“Lyria, place this ring on Rowan’s finger as a symbol of your bond everlasting.”
Rowan flinched as she jammed the ring forcefully onto his finger.
“Rowan, place this ring in Lyria’s hand as a symbol of the love that encircles you forever.”
“Happy to.” He chirped and gave her the ring.
Aelin, and everyone else, watched what seemed to be a train wreck unfolding as the minister declared, “Rowan and Lyria have made their declarations and it gives me great pleasure to declare them husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”
People visibly winced as Rowan bent to kiss Lyria and she turned away from him only allowing him to brush his lips against her cheek. She escaped down the aisle, refusing to grab Rowan’s outstretched hand.
Aelin thought she heard Lyria mutter Just keep smiling to Rowan as they passed by.
Fenrys was standing next to Lorcan near the other bridesmaids and groomsmen. He nudged the taller man in the ribs and quipped, “Well, that went well.”
Lorcan glared down at the blond and rolled his eyes, “It could’ve been worse,” he suggested sarcastically, “he could’ve stabbed her.”
***
Aelin stood with Elide, Lorcan, and Fenrys in the lobby of the reception hall as they watched Rowan try to coax Lyria out of the bathroom she’d locked herself in. They could hear her shouting at him through the door.
“You’ve ruined everything!” she called out, furiously, “This is a nightmare! My friends and family are out there! How can I face them? How can you do this me?”
The group cringed as other guests look toward the scene.
Fenrys watched them a moment before asking, “No matter what happens with Rowan and Lyria, we still get cake right?”
Lorcan snorted as Rowan tried to open the door again, “All right Lyr, you take your time sweetie. I’ll be right out here.” He plastered a fake cheerful smile on as he noticed his friends watching him with pity, “She just fixing her makeup.”
“I hate you!” Lyria screamed through the door.
“And, I love you!” he called.
Rowan walked back towards his friends. Fenrys, trying to lighten the mood, teased “Man, bad time to say the wrong name, huh?” He wiggled his eyebrows even as Rowan fixed him with an incredulous glare.
“Thanks, Fen,” Rowan muttered as he clipped Fenrys on the back of the head. Then Rowan sighed and looked around at the depressing reception hall and tried to put on a happy face that came across as more of a grimace. “People should be dancing; this is a party!” Rowan whirled back towards Fenrys and urged, “Come on Fen, dance!”
Fenrys looked around at the empty dancefloor and his friends waiting patiently as he tried to dance in the music-less space for a moment before giving up and walking away.
***
Across the room, Lyria’s mother answered her ringing phone.
“Yes? Who is this?”
“Uh, hello, this is Rowan Whitethorn’s personal physician, Dr. Shifter.”
In New York, Lysandra cringed at the obviously fake accent she was attempting but pushed forward. After making Fenrys keep his phone on during the wedding ceremony and hearing Rowan’s horrible fumble, she was trying to help them fix the situation. To her and Aedion’s disappointment, they couldn’t attend the wedding due to Lysandra’s pregnancy; she was due any day now and was instructed not to fly. So, she’d have to help with damage control from across the pond.
“Who?” the older woman asked.
“Yes,” Lysandra insisted, deepening the ridiculous accent, “I’ve discovered Rowan forgot to take his…” she trailed off and Aedion prompted brain medicine, “brain medicine.” She winced at how horrible of an excuse that was, “uh, now without it, uh, in the brain of Rowan, uh women’s names are interchangeable, through…through no fault of his own.”
Lyria’s mother sighed, exasperated, “Oh my Gods, Lysandra.”
Lysandra winced again, her fake accent was as horrible as she thought.
“No, not Lysandra, Dr. Shifter.” Lysandra insisted and then exclaimed, “Oh no! You have it, too!”
The next thing Lysandra heard was the dial tone as the woman hung up.
***
Elide stood by the buffet table, filling her plate when she felt Lorcan come up next to her.
“Hey,” He said in a low voice.
She glanced up at him to find him already looking at her, “Hi.”
He looked apologetic, almost nervous, in a way he normally wasn’t, and rubbed the back of his neck. “Wow, uh, I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, but, I know we had plans to meet up tonight and,” he stumbled over his words again as they both flashed back to the night before.
Lorcan opened the door to his hotel room to see Elide standing there.
“Hey, El, what’s up?” he stepped aside to let her in. Lorcan watched as she looked around the room, identical to her own, he was sure, and turn to face him.
He blamed it on the jetlag and the craziness of the day, but he couldn’t stop himself from admiring her. She was beautiful, and intelligent, and funny. She was also one of his best friends. Normally, he pushed down any feelings that weren’t ‘best friend’ feelings—feelings that made him want to throw caution to the wind and kiss her.
“Hey,” she said, looking at him through her lashes. “Is Fenrys here?”
Lorcan shook his head and saw relief flash across her face as he said, “Last time I saw him, he was heading out the door with that one bride’s maid and a bucket of strawberries.”
Elide raised a brow and snorted. “Sounds about right.”
He hummed in agreement, “You okay? You’re not still thinking about what that idiot told you, are you?”
That idiot being the stumbling, drunk man who’d bumped into Elide, spilled half his drink on her, looked at her and then her dress that she adored, and declared the stain an improvement, before walking away and leaving her to replay the insult in her head.
She snorted again, but it lacked any amusement. “What? You mean the jibe about how I looked better covered in scotch?” she sighed and looked away, “Whatever. I was obviously wrong about this dress.”
She looked down, but he grunted his disagreement, making her glance back up.
“What?” She questioned, confused at the look he was giving her.
“Ignore him,” Lorcan insisted, “I mean, you were the most beautiful person in the room tonight.” He told her, immediately wishing he hadn’t said that because that didn’t sound like a ‘best friend’ feeling.
But, instead of looking at him weirdly, she stepped closer and her eyes were…hopeful?
“Really?”
He cleared his throat but closed the distance between them, “Are you kidding? You’re the most beautiful woman in most rooms.”
Elide surged forward and kissed him.
It was perfect, it was Elide, it was—
“Whoa,” Lorcan pulled back and stared at her in disbelief, “What’s going on? You and I just kissed! You and I are kissing?” his brain couldn’t catch up.
“Well, not anymore.” She mumbled.
He searched her face, “How drunk are you?”
She offered him a smile, “Drunk enough to know that I want to do this. Not so drunk that you should feel guilty about taking advantage.”
Even through her quip, he could see the sincerity, and something else, something he couldn’t pinpoint, in her eyes.
“That’s the perfect amount!”
Then their lips connected again, and hands were moving, and suddenly they were on the bed.
Elide leaned back and Lorcan hovered over her as she broke away and said, “You know what’s weird?”
“What?” Lorcan trailed kisses down her neck and she shivered.
“This doesn’t feel weird.” She breathed.
He removed his mouth from her skin and looked into her face. She was right, this didn’t feel weird. It felt right.
Grinning, they both leaned back in and enjoyed a very satisfying night.
The next morning, Elide woke up in a hotel room with a large, warm body pressed against her. She smiled, thinking about what she and Lorcan did. And did. And did. Turning in his arms, she found he was already awake and watching her.
“Good morning” she yawned
He smirked, “G’morning.”
They spent who-knows-how-long lazily kissing until a loud knock sounded at the door.
Panicking, Elide’s wide eyes met Lorcan’s and she ducked beneath the covers just as Rowan barged into the room.
“I’m getting married today!” she heard from her position tucked into Lorcan’s side, the blankets soon becoming suffocating.
Lorcan’s hand snuck under the cover to rest in her hair as he slumped down in the bed, trying to make it less obvious that Elide was there. “Morning, Whitethorn.”
Elide heard Rowan close the door as he left and she popped back up, her hair in complete disarray, as she glanced at a now smirking Lorcan “Do you think he knew I was here?”
She’d left to get ready for the ceremony soon after that. Just before she needed to get to her seat, Lorcan casually found her and pulled her aside. Clearing this throat, he said, “What we did last night was...” he trailed off, not knowing what to say.
“Stupid.” She offered.
“Totally stupid.” He agreed, nodding.
“What were we thinking?” She asked, fixing the sleeve of her dress.
They lapsed into silence a moment, neither looking at the other, before Lorcan asked, “I’m coming over tonight though, right?”
“Oh yeah, definitely.” Elide confirmed and subtly winked as she walked to her seat.
Lorcan kept talking, drawing them both back into the present, “I’m kind of worried about what it might do to our friendship.”
Elide sighed, “I know,” She glanced around and asked him worriedly, “How could we have let this happen?”
She didn’t regret the previous night, if anything, it was the fact that she didn’t regret it that alarmed her. She valued her friendship with Lorcan so much and hoped that whatever this was didn’t mess that up. Even though they both seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves, a fact she was reminded of as he added, “Seven times.”
She allowed a smirk and she saw it mirrored on his own mouth.
“Well, you know, we were away…” She tried to justify.
Lorcan nodded eagerly, “In a foreign, romantic country…”
Elide hummed in agreement, “I blame London.”
“London,” Lorcan grunted disapprovingly.
They looked at each other for a long moment before Elide said, “So um, while we’re still in London,” Elide watched as Lorcan raised a brow, waiting for her to continue, “I mean, we can keep doing it right?”
Lorcan suppressed a grin. “Well, I don’t see that we have a choice. But, when we’re back home, we don’t do it.”
Elide nodded, though part of her didn’t want to think that far ahead, “Only here.”
Lorcan stepped closer to her, towering over her shorter frame, “You know, I saw a wine cellar downstairs—”
“I’ll meet you there in two minutes.”
Elide didn’t miss the wide smirk he flashed her before he disappeared around the corner.
She counted to one hundred and was just about to follow Lorcan out when Aelin rushed up to her side.
“El, I have to ask you something,” Aelin said desperately.
As much as Elide loved Aelin and wanted to help her, she knew Lorcan would be in the wine cellar now waiting for her to join him.
“Now?”
Aelin didn’t catch the impatience in Elide’s question. “El, Rowan said my name up there. I mean, come on, I can’t just pretend that didn’t happen, can I?”
“Oh, I don’t know.” This was definitely a conversation she wished they were having any other time.
Aelin urged Elide for advice, “Elide, what should I do?”
“Just, uh, do the right thing.”
“What?” Aelin asked, clearly upset Elide wasn’t giving her her full attention.
Normally, Elide would be offering advice and suggestions, making sure Aelin didn’t do something too insane, but at the moment she couldn’t keep her mind from wandering back to the night before and the feel of Lorcan’s hands on her, as she babbled, “Toe the line, thread the needle, Think outside the box!”
Elide tried slipping away but Aelin stopped her again, “Whoa, wait,” Aelin sighed, “I think I’m just going to talk to Rowan about what he thinks it meant.”
Elide halted and turned back towards her friend. “Aelin, wait” the blonde met her eyes, and Elide said regretfully, “No, he’s married. Married. If you don’t realize that, I can’t help you.”
Aelin closed her eyes and nodded, “Okay, you’re right,” as Aelin opened her eyes Elide offered a small, sad smile. Her smile dropped as Aelin whipped around and finished, “You’re right, you can’t help me.”
Elide rolled her eyes but finally left to find the wine cellar. She wandered for a little while before she found the cellar, but no Lorcan.
Making her way back to the reception hall, she saw him back at the refreshment table.
“Where were you?” she hissed, “We were supposed to meet in the cellar.”
“Forget it, that’s off.” He told her under his breath.
“Why?” Elide asked incredulously
Almost as if he heard her question, Lyria’s very drunk father wandered into the hall and slurred loudly, “The next tour of the wine cellar will plan in two…in two minutes.”
Elide cringed and shared a nod with Lorcan as Fenrys walked up to them with a large steak on his plate.
“Fen,” Elide demanded, “what are you doing? You promised Lysandra you wouldn’t eat meat until she had the baby!”
Lysandra, ever the animal lover, had been a vegetarian for as long as Elide had known the woman. To Lysandra’s horror, one of her pregnancy cravings was meat, and as much as she tried, she couldn’t help but give in. After an almost meltdown, Fenrys offered to abstain from eating meat for the duration of her pregnancy so that she could and, as Lysandra’s argument, no additional animals would be harmed. When Elide tried to question why Fenrys was doing this and not, say, Aedion, Aedion cut her off before Lysandra could hear the suggestion.
Fenrys looked between Elide and his steak, “Well, I figured we’re in another country, so it doesn’t count.”
Elide met Lorcan’s eyes and they shared a secret grin
“That’s true,” she conceded.
“The man’s got a point,” Lorcan agreed.

Aelin found Rowan hovering outside the bathroom door.
“Hey,” she said gently.
He startled but offered her a small, strained smile, “Hi.”
“Sorry things aren’t working out so well.” Aelin winced, unable to think of anything better to say.
Rowan shook his head and forced a laugh, “Oh no! It could be better,” he nodded and then looked towards her anxiously and asked, “but’s going to be okay, right?”
Aelin hated this. She hated having to stand here with the man she was desperately in love with and reassure him that his marriage to another woman would be alright. And as much as she honestly doubted it—because what woman wants to hear her fiancé say another woman’s name at the alter—Rowan was first, and foremost, her friend.
“Oh yeah!” She said as cheerfully as she could manage, “Of course, I mean, she’d gonna get over this, you know?” Aelin hoped not but refrained from saying that given Rowan’s dejected face. “I mean, so you said my name, you probably just said it because you saw me there. If you’d have seen a hawk in the window, you would’ve said, ‘I take thee, hawk.’
She internally cringed but Rowan nodded, reassuring himself.
Aelin went on, “You know it didn’t mean anything, it was just a mistake.” She pressed closer and allowed a sliver of hope to show in her eyes as she asked again, hoping he would disagree with her, “It didn’t mean anything, right?”
After a second’s hesitation that she may have just imagined, Rowan’s brows furrowed and he insisted, “No! No, of course, it didn’t mean anything.” He glanced towards the door then back to Aelin. “I mean, I can understand why Lyria would think it meant something, you know, because…because it’s you…” he trailed off and Aelin briefly saw highlights of their relationship flash before her eyes.
The museum dates, the love confessions, the times with their friends. She saw them break apart and mend back together. She saw a new friendship bloom, and her own feelings of love resurface even as he found happiness somewhere else.
She cleared her throat, bringing herself back to the moment, “Right.”
Stepping closer to the closed door, Rowan yelled “It didn’t! It didn’t mean anything!”
Aelin was prevented from saying something stupid as Fenrys approached and told Rowan, “Rowan, hey man, the band’s ready outside for your first dance with Lyria,” Fen trailed off as Rowan glared at him.
“Oh, oh, the band’s ready?” Rowan asked with fake interest. “Well, I—we have to do what the band says,” he whirled on Fenrys and shouted, “I don’t care about the stupid band!”
Fenrys shot Rowan an annoyed glace and wiped his face, “You spit on me, man.”
Rowan muttered a sorry before Fenrys asked, “Lyria is kind of taking a long time, huh?”
A memory surfaced in Aelin’s mind and she laughed, “You know, when I locked myself in the bathroom at my wedding,” she paused as the horrid image of Arobynn appeared but faded away as she looked back at Rowan, “it was because I was trying to pop the window out of its frame.”
The guys chuckled at the thought of Aelin maneuvering an outrageous wedding dress through a window.
“Had to get the hell out of there, you know?” she chuckled, too, before all three of them abruptly stopped and whipped their heads around to the bathroom door.
Oh shit.
“Lyria!” Rowan banged on the door, “Lyria, I’m coming in.”
Rowan threw the door open and he, Fenrys, and Aelin took in the empty bathroom, open window, and curtain flying in the wind.
“Well, look at that,” Aelin observed, “same thing.”

Elide and Lorcan escaped the reception hall amidst the chaos of a missing Lyria. They hastily made it to Elide’s room, hands clasped the entire way as Lorcan pulled her down the hall.
Laughing, she opened the door, fully ready to haul Lorcan towards the bed, but froze as she caught sight of Aelin sitting on her bed.
“Oh my Gods, Aelin! Hi.” Elide yelped, feeling Lorcan stumble into her as he froze, too.
He cleared his throat, “Oh, hey Aelin.” The fake calm tone he used to mask his irritation sounded too high for his ears, enough so that Aelin raised a brow at him before shaking her head and dismissing him.
Aelin didn’t wait for either of them to say another word as she exclaimed, “Rowan said my name. Okay?” She moved to sit on the edge of the bed with a slightly frantic look in her eye. “My name. Rowan said my name up there, that obviously means that he still loves me!”
Aelin looked back and forth between Elide and Lorcan desperately hoping one of them would validate what she said, but they stared at her in silence. She rolled her eyes and huffed a breath, “Fine, don’t believe me. I know I’m right.” She pointed a finger at the pair before running a hand through her hair, “Do you guys want to go downstairs and get a drink?”
At her inquisitive stare Lorcan said, “Yes, we do,” and as Elide shot him a look, he added, “But, we have to change first.”
Elide nodded vigorously, “Yes, I want to change. Why don’t you go down and get us a table?”
Aelin looked at her weirdly, but nodded as Elide told her, “We’ll be down in ten minutes.”
Lorcan subtly squeezed her shoulders and corrected, “twenty minutes.”
Lorcan didn’t miss the quick, approving look Elide shot him, or the subtle wink that Aelin was too preoccupied to notice.
The blonde hummed in agreement and grabbed her bag, “Okay, sure.”
Just as Aelin was about to leave, the phone at the bedside table started ringing. Answering, she asked, “Hello?”
Lorcan stifled an irritated groan.
“Oh Lys!” Aelin faced Elide and Lorcan as she settled down into the bed, “It’s Lysandra.”
“Great,” Elide mumbled and forced a smile as Lorcan didn’t hold back his next annoyed grunt.
Ignoring Aelin’s conversation and taking advantage of her distraction, Lorcan leaned down to say into Elide’s ear, “Hey, why don’t we go change in my room?”
She turned towards him with her brows furrowed, “But my clothes are—” her brows shot up as she caught the dark gleam in his eye, “Oh.”
At her answering smirk, he grabbed her hand and pulled her from the room.
***
Once Lorcan made sure Fenrys wasn’t in their shared room, he pulled Elide inside and locked the door.
His hands gripped her hips, pulling her towards him as her hand found its place in the collar of his shirt before wrapping around his neck and pulling him for a searing kiss.
Lorcan wound a hand in her hair and pulled back enough to look at her in her dress, “El, you look—”
She smirked, but said, “No time for that,” and went back to trying to get his shirt off. Their hands roamed each other’s bodies hungrily until a loud knock sounded at the door.
They pulled away as Fenrys’ voice called out, “Hey, dude,” Lorcan closed his eyes and released a slow breath, trying to reign in his fraying temper, “let me in. I’ve got a girl out here!”
Lorcan swore as he heard giggling from the hallway, and glanced at Elide whose hair was now fluffed from where his hands had run through it, and her dress that was scrunched at her hip.
“Well, I’ve got a girl in here.”
Fenrys scoffed, “No you don’t, I just saw you go in there with Elide.”
Elide huffed and Lorcan said through gritted teeth, “Well, we’re…we’re hanging out in here.”
“Look,” Fenrys insisted again, “Which one of us is gonna be having sex in there, me or you?”
It took all of Lorcan’s willpower not to reach through the door at throttle Fenrys as he growled menacingly, “I guess I’d have to say you.”
***
Realizing that neither of their rooms were going to grant them any privacy, Elide and Lorcan went to the one place they knew wouldn’t be occupied tonight.
The honeymoon suite.
“Do you really think this is okay?” Elide asked. As much as she wanted to rip Lorcan’s clothes off and climb on top of him, she suddenly felt guilty about using Rowan and Lyria’s suite. Not that they would be using it.
As if hearing her thoughts, Lorcan muttered, “Well, Rowan and Lyria aren’t gonna use it.”
“I know, I just—” she bit her lip and looked around, “I don’t know if I feel right about this.”
Lorcan stopped trying to remove the excruciating number of throw pillows and walked towards elide. “El, El, El,” he murmured, grabbing her face in his hands, “this is the honeymoon suite.”
“Exactly.” She retorted.
He rolled his eyes, “This room expects sex.” He chuckled at her raised brow but said, “The room would be disappointed if it didn’t get sex. All of the other honeymoon suites would think it was a loser.”
She snorted, “You’re an idiot.” The insult did have any of her usually bite.
He grinned, “Maybe, but I’m an idiot you want to fuck. And now we have an unoccupied room.”
Elide rolled her eyes but grinned back, “Okay.”
“Okay.”
They’d just reached the bed when the door flew open and Lorcan barely contained a long string of curses.
“Lyria?” Rowan called, his eyes scanning the room.
Elide shot Lorcan a look and asked Rowan, “You haven’t found her?”
Rowan groaned, “No, I’ve looked everywhere!”
Lorcan, very helpfully, responded, “Well, you couldn’t have looked everywhere or else you would’ve found her!”
Elide almost pitied Lorcan for being on the end of Rowan’s glare.
“I think you should keep looking,” she suggested, drawing Rowan’s attention back.
“Yeah,” Lorcan nodded, “for about thirty minutes.”
“Or forty-five,” she quickly suggested.
Lorcan’s eyes flashed to hers and a wicked gleam shown there as he said to Rowan, without taking his eyes off her, “in forty-five minutes you could find her a few times.”
Elide grinned but quickly schooled her features as Rowan turned back in her direction.
“No,” Rowan insisted, sitting down heavily on the bed, “For all I know, she’s trying to find me but couldn’t because I kept moving around. No, from now on, I’m staying in one place. Right here.”
Elide nodded, “Well, it’s getting late.” She shot a look at Lorcan and he quickly followed her to the door.
“Yeah,” he added, “we’re gonna go.”
“Actually, do you guys mind staying here for a while?” Rowan asked, looking pitiful and so unlike his usual self.
“We have to get up early and catch that plane for New York,” Lorcan argued.
Rowan sighed, “Yeah, that’s fine.”
Elide stared at Rowan a moment and had an internal battle with herself. Should she be a good friend and support Rowan when he’s upset and hurting…or should she escape and have the best sex of her life.
Groaning at her apparent conscious, she glanced at Lorcan and tried to convey that they weren’t about to skip out now. He sighed heavily but nodded almost imperceptibly.
“But,” he said through gritted teeth, “we’ll stay here with you.”
Rowan visibly brightened. “Thanks, guys. I really appreciate this.”
***
They stayed like that for hours, Rowan eventually falling asleep across both Lorcan and Elide, keeping them in place and awake despite their exhaustion, desire, and exasperation.
Lorcan groaned and dragged a hand down his face, “We have to leave for New York in an hour.”
Elide sighed, “I know,” she glanced at Lorcan and then at the doors to the suite. “I’ve been eyeing those doors; they look pretty soundproof, don’t you think?” she asked hopefully.
Lorcan winced, “We can’t do that that’s insane. I mean ‘A’ he could wake up,” his eyes flicked down to Rowan who was totally passed out, then back to her, “and ‘B’ you know, let’s go for it.”
She grinned and they both tried to carefully remove themselves from Rowan until a knock pounded and Rowan shot up and stumbled off them.
“Lyr? Lyria?” He asked, still half asleep, “Lyria?” Rowan ran out of the room and through the suite to fling the door open. It wasn’t Lyria, just her parents.
Her mother leveled a look at Rowan, “No, You can forget about Lyria, she’s not with us. We’ve come to get her things”
“Wait,” Rowan stammered, “where—where is she?”
“She in hiding,” her father answered, “She’s utterly humiliated. She doesn’t want to see you ever again.”
“Hey, you guys, check this out, a whole cart was just left—" Aelin sauntered in with tiny bottles of hair products in her hands but froze as she looked between Rowan, Lyria’s parents, Elide, and Lorcan.
“Goodbye, Whitethorn.” Lyria’s father said
“Hold on!” Rowan insisted, stopping the parents from leaving, “Look, your daughter and I are supposed to leave tonight for our honeymoon, now you,” he took another breath, “you tell her that I’m gonna be at that airport and I hope that she’ll be there too.”
Rowan ran a frustrated hand through his hair, making the ends stick up, and explained, “Yeah, I said Aelin’s name, but it didn’t mean anything, okay?”
Aelin tried her best not to let her shattering heart show on her face as she slumped into a seat at the back of the room.
He continued, “She’s just a friend and that’s all!”
She knew Rowan wasn’t trying to hurt her, Hellas, he had no idea that she was still in love with him—he was just trying to get his wife back. Gods. His wife. How could Aelin be so stupid?
She felt Elide and Lorcan sink into the chairs next to her and Elide’s subtle, comforting hand on her back.
“She’s just afraid,” Rowan kept saying, “Now just tell Lyria that I love her and that I can’t imagine spending my life with anyone else. Please, promise me that you’ll tell her that.”
Aelin blocked out any other conversation.
***
Elide was tired. She was exhausted from staying up all night having to deal with distressed grooms, interrupting friends, and runaway brides—if she was being honest, Elide wasn’t all that upset over the last one. She kind of hated that Rowan married Lyria, she’d never gotten a good vibe from the woman, not to mention everything that was still between Rowan and Aelin…
Sitting next to Lorcan on their flight home, she leaned in close to rest her shoulder against his arm and smiled a bit as he turned towards her.
“You know,” she said, “maybe it’s best that we never got to do it again.”
He made a noise of agreement even if she could’ve sworn she saw disappointment in his eyes.
“Yeah, it makes that one ti—night special, I guess” He almost said time but corrected himself because they did it way more times than just fucking once. A smirk played at his lips as realized, “Technically, El, we are still over international waters.”
Her eyes lit up and she grinned as she maneuvered out of her seat and told him, “I’m gonna go to the bathroom, maybe I’ll see you there?” She asked coyly. Elide had taken half a step before turning back with a worried glance at him, “Airplane bathrooms are tiny, are you going to fit?”
Lorcan leaned back and smirked fully, “I’ll fit.”
She scoffed at the way his eyes darkened—it was obvious he wasn’t talking about the bathroom—but walked back there anyway.
He leaned over to watch her walk away and caught her sly wink as she slipped into the bathroom, before facing forward and coming face to face with Fenrys who’d taken Elide’s seat the moment she was gone.
“Gods,” Lorcan jumped, “what?”
“Can I ask you something?” Fenrys asked, oblivious to the growing anger emanating for Lorcan at another instance of being interrupted from his time with Elide.
“No,” Lorcan grunted and was about to get up when Fenrys grabbed his arm and dove into a conversation that Lorcan entirely blocked out.
He wasn’t sure how long he sat there desperately wanting to meet Elide but being trapped in a mindless one-sided conversation, his only reprieve being the small liquor bottles he’d charged to Fenrys’ ticket.
Fenrys suddenly stopped talking as he glanced over Lorcan’s shoulder. Turning, Lorcan winced as he met the livid eyes of Elide
“Elide,” Fenrys commented, “wow, you’ve been in the bathroom for like a half-hour.”
Elide’s eyes narrowed further and Lorcan tried to look apologetic as she bit out, “I. Know.”
***
When Elide, Lorcan, and Fenrys arrived back at their building Lysandra and Aedion were waiting for them in Elide’s apartment.
After the hellos and hugs, Lysandra stepped back and narrowed her at Fenrys.
“You ate meat!” She accused.
Then she turned towards Lorcan and Elide who watched her with wide eyes, “You had sex!”
They sputtered, “No we didn’t!”
Lysandra scoffed at Lorcan, “I know you didn’t, you have the personality of a shoe, who would want to hook up with you?” She gestured at Elide, “I was talking about Elide.”
Elide forced a laugh, “What? Lysandra, I did not have sex.” Elide brushed off the claim as Aedion gave her a funny look.
Lysandra shook her head and sighed, “This pregnancy is throwing me all off.”
Lysandra and Aedion said their goodbyes, and then Fenrys walked across the hall to his own apartment, leaving Lorcan and Elide standing in Elide’s kitchen.
“Well, we certainly are alone.” Elide said, unnecessarily.
Lorcan nodded, “Yeah, uh, good thing we have that, ‘Not in New York’ rule.”
She hummed noncommittally.
“Listen, I uh,” Elide tried to put her scrambling thoughts into words, “I just—that night meant a lot to me, I guess I’m just trying to say thanks.”
Lorcan cleared his throat and stepped closer to her, “Oh, yeah, you know,” She looked up as he stumbled over his words, “that night meant a lot to me too.”
They stared at each other for another long moment before Lorcan nodded at the door and said, “All right, I gotta go unpack.”
“Okay.”
“Bye.”
“Bye.” She watched him leave and waited to hear the door across the hall open, but the click of the door handle never came.
Lorcan stalked back in and slammed her door behind him.
“I’m still on London time, does that count?” He asked wildly
Elide was already flinging herself at him, “That counts!”
Then she wrapped her legs around his hips as he lifted her and carried her into her bedroom.
***
Aelin was making another lap around the airport, hoping to hear some updates about her flight. In her mad dash to show up at Rowan and Lyria’s wedding, she had bought the first ticket she could to London and hadn’t worried about her return flight. She didn’t think it would be such a struggle to fly home.
“Aelin!” A deep, familiar voice called out.
She stopped and turned to see Rowan sitting alone in an almost deserted waiting area.
“Rowan, hi.”
He stood up and met her halfway, his face scrunched in confusion “What are you, uh what are you doing here?”
“Oh, well,” she adjusted her bag on her shoulder and flashed him a smile, “I’ve been on standby for a flight home for hours. I’ve become very familiar with the airline staff.”
He nodded
“So,” she glanced around, “no sign of Lyria, huh?
“Not yet.” Rowan shook his head.
“What time are you supposed to leave?”
As if on cue, the speakers crackled as an announcement called, “This is the last call for Flight 1066 to Athens. The last call.”
Rowan made a face and answered her, “Pretty soon I guess.”
Despite her feelings about Lyria, the very last thing Aelin wanted was to see Rowan so dejected and heartbroken.
“I’m sorry,” she said as gently as she could.
He sighed and sat back down as Aelin took the seat across from him
“I just, I don’t understand,” He scrubbed his face with his hands, “I mean, how can she do this? You know, am I… am I like a complete idiot for thinking that she’d actually show up?”
“No, you’re not an idiot, Rowan. You’re a guy very much in love.” Aelin sighed.
He snorted, “Same difference”
She cracked a smile and he matched it.
The voice over the speaker rang out again, “All ticketed passengers for Flight 1066 to Athens should now be on board.”
“I get it!” Rowan snapped at the invisible voice, then sighed again, “Well, that’s that.”
Aelin couldn’t watch this anymore. “No, you know what, I think you should go.”
“What?”
His face snapped up and Aelin looked into his earnest, pine green eyes as she told him, “Yeah,” she nodded, “I think you should go, by yourself, get some distance, clear your head, I think it’d be really good.”
He looked skeptical but Aelin thought she saw an ounce of relief. “I don’t—I don’t know.”
He looked at the gate attendant still at the check-in desk and Aelin knew he wanted to.
“Come on Rowan, I think it would be really good for you,” She urged, hoping the trip would make him feel better and he would come back seeming more like himself—like the Rowan she knew.
He was nodding, trying to convince himself, “Yeah,” he eventually said, “I can do that.”
“Yeah!” Aelin agreed, trying to hype him up.
Rowan grabbed his bag and looked back at her, still frustrated, “I can’t even believe her,” he chanced another glance around the terminal as if Lyria would materialize in front of him, “No, you know what, I am, I’m going to go.”
“Good!”
“Yeah, why not?”
“Right!”
“Right.” Rowan took another step before turning to face her once more, “Thanks, Aelin.”
She smiled at him, glad that he was getting some of his happiness back that had abandoned him the previous day.
“Okay,” she said again and opened her arms to give him a hug he enthusiastically returned. “I’ll see you back at home if I ever get a flight out of here,” she huffed and began to turn away.
“Well...no, never mind.” Rowan shook his head, dismissing whatever he was about to say.
Aelin tilted her head, she scrunched her brows in confusion as he gave her a sheepish grin, “What?”
Rowan looked between her and the gate attendant, “Why don’t you come?” at her shocked silence he plowed on, “I—I have two tickets,” he waved them in front of him, still wearing that boyish smile she loved so much, “Why not?”
“Oh, I don’t know,” she trailed off. Aelin wanted nothing more than to say yes, but Rowan was offering her the second ticket on his honeymoon trip for gods’ sake. But as she kept looking into his hopeful face, she felt her resolve and guilt crumbling. “Really?”
“Yeah. Yeah, it’ll be great,” he insisted, handing her one of the tickets. “You can lay on the beach and read, and I can cry over my failed marriage,” he chuckled, “See? Already making jokes.” the smile he forced was more of a grimace.
“Rowan, I—”
“No, really,” Rowan stepped up to her and placed his hands on her shoulders. She tried not to lose focus as she felt his warmth sink into her. “Please, Aelin,” he said, looking more vulnerable than she’d seen him all weekend. “Gods, I could use a friend right now, and you’re one of the best.”
“Wow,” Aelin took a breath. She could accept. She could go to Greece with Rowan for a week and support him and enjoy herself. “Okay. Uh, yeah, yes! Yes, I can do that.”
“Really?” his smile widened and so did hers.
“Really.”
They walked to the gate attendant and handed her their tickets. After a disapproving glare for their timing, she opened the door and waved them through.
Rowan readjusted his bag and paused, “Oh, wait, I forgot my jacket. You go on, I’ll be right there.”
Aelin flashed him a happy smile and nodded, walking onto the plane.
Rowan quickly jogged back where he’d been sitting, picked up his jacket, straightened, and met the eyes of his runaway bride.
“Lyria.” he breathed.
She looked between him and the gate looking distraught and Rowan realized that she must have seen Aelin go onto the plane. His eyes flared, understanding that Lyria must have thought everything with he and Aelin had been intentional. And it wasn’t. It wasn’t...right?
She scoffed and made to turn away, but he stammered, “Oh no, no, no, no! No!, Lyria!” He frantically looked between Lyria’s retreating figure and the gate that Aelin had walked through to the plane where she was waiting for him.
Cursing every god he knew, he chased through the airport after his wife.
***
Aelin enjoyed first class. She didn’t fly it often, but when she really wanted to treat herself, she would. This flight was no different than she remembered. She settled into the seat, keeping the window spot open for Rowan, and ordered them both a drink from the flight attendant. She figured they could both use one after this insane weekend.
Glancing out the window, Aelin noticed that the airport appeared to be moving.
She jolted in her seat. The airport wasn’t moving. She was. The plane was.
The plane was leaving, and Rowan wasn’t on it.
“Oh, my Gods,” Aelin muttered in disbelief as she sat on a plane departing for what should’ve been Rowan and Lyria’s honeymoon. “Oh, my Gods.”

"You might have to get a matching set of earrings, but I don’t think it’s too shabby.” Nat said, leaning back in her seat.
Playing with the newly gifted bracelet on your wrist, you chuckled.
“I guess it could be worse.” You joked. “And this is supposed to stop me from... you know... turning the whole room to ice?”
“Not stop-” Bruce corrected you. “Control. We’re never going to be able to... reverse... what happened, but at least this will help you control it.”
Nodding your head along with what he was saying, your eyes strayed from your wrist to your husband standing against the far wall of the lab, his arms crossed and eyes focused on you.
The two of you hadn’t spoken to each other since the first day you had woken up from being captured and he had held you in his arms. You were still struggling with coming to terms with who your husband was and even who you were. Knowing you needed your space, he had respected your wishes, keeping a painful distance from you for the past three days since you had woken up in the icy room of the Compound.
His eyes snapping away from yours, they landed on an article of clothing laying on one of the countertops in the lab.
“What’s that?” He asked, speaking up for the first time that day.
You, Bruce, Nat and Sam glanced at one another before your eyes landed on the suit on the table. Crossing your arms, you focused your attention at the ground.
“A suit.” Bruce clarified.
“Yeah, no shit.” Bucky said, picking up the cloth. “For who?”
“For me.” You said, speaking up, still not meeting your husband’s eyes.
An awkward silence hung in the room for a brief moment after your confession, before Bucky found his voice again.
“Can I talk to you outside?” He asked, pushing open the doors of the lab.
Nodding, you said nothing before following close behind your husband into the hallway of the Compound. When situated outside, you looked up at him.
“What?” You asked.
“What?” He repeated. “Don’t ‘what’ me, Y/n. Since when did you start having them make you a suit? I thought once this was all over you wanted to go home.”
Rolling your eyes, you crossed your arms.
“I never said that.” You said. “You just assumed that. I mean, what do you want me to do, Buck? I have abilities that other people don’t have. I can’t just go home after this and pretend like this isn’t a part of me anymore- like this never happened. I have these abilities and I should use them for good. I have to. You don't have to worry about me. I made this choice for myself.”
Staring at the resolve written all over your face, Bucky laced his fingers into his hair, tugging the short strands.
He understood what you were saying. He understood that you felt a responsibility to do good, but he thought of himself too- how he fell into the position he was in now.
He didn’t make the choice to be an Avenger. The choice had been made for him the moment he fell from that train and was taken into the hands of Hydra. He wanted better for you than a life you hadn’t chosen. He wanted better for you than a life where you were constantly risking your life and wondering if you would live to see another day.
He wanted more for himself than losing the love of his life because of a sense of duty.
“You don’t choose to go into stuff like this, Y/n.” Bucky said, unlacing his fingers from his hair and throwing his arms in the air. “You’re forced. You can still get out of this, doll. Don’t stay because you feel like you have to- you don’t owe anybody anything. You have the choice to go home and forget about all this and that’s what most people like me wish for.”
“Fine, you know what?” You said, throwing your hands up in the air. “You’re right. I don’t have a choice. I was forced into this shit because I didn’t know who I married and some guy tried to kill me because of it. Don’t stand there and act like you know what’s good for me when you’re the whole reason I’m in this mess.”
Slipping the bracelet off of your wrist, you held it between your fingers and watched as the floor below you began to turn to ice at your feet and frost started to coat the bracelet in your hand.
“Look at this, Buck.” You said, waving the bracelet. “Look at this! You think I can just go home and pretend like I wouldn’t turn you into a fucking popsicle if this was off for more than two minutes? I can’t pretend like this isn’t happening to me and if I have the chance to do something good with it then I will.”
Watching Bucky’s eyes soften as he stared at you, you slipped the bracelet back onto your wrist, the ice melting away with it. Shaking his head, you watched as the angry demeanor that he had been portraying seconds ago faded away as his shoulders relaxed and his hands went still at his sides.
“I just want what’s best for you.”
The way his voice cracked as the words slipped out of his mouth and he could barely meet your eyes made your heart tug in your chest. You knew he didn’t mean you any harm. You knew even after everything that he was just looking out for you, but you also knew that he had a clouded sense of what was right and wrong for you.
Relaxing your shoulders, you slowly walked over to your husband, resting your hand on his bicep.
“I know that, Buck.” You said softly, urging him to meet your eyes. “But when are you going to realize that you don’t know what that is?”
-
Looking into the room through the window of the door, you fiddled with the bracelet on your wrist, all the thoughts of what could go wrong running through your mind. Feeling the cold touch of vibranium wrap around your wrist, you stopped your fidgeting.
“Stop worrying, Y/n.” Bucky said from beside you. “Everything is gonna be fine.”
“What? I’m not worried.” You lied.
“You’re joking, right?” He asked, a hint of a smile gracing his face and what you would even call a chuckle slipping from his mouth. “At our wedding you twisted your engagement ring the whole time and remember when you took those pregnancy tests for Grant? You spent the whole time messing with that stupid bracelet on your wrist I was worried your skin was gonna turn red. Even that little- God what is it called? That thing Becca made for Mother’s Day last year?”
“Are you talking about that macaroni necklace?” You couldn’t help but laugh.
“Yes!” Bucky exclaimed, snapping his fingers when you finally said the name. “That thing. You were messing with that thing so much that when you saw me hit my head on the cabinet door you snapped the pasta right in your hand.”
You knew exactly what he was talking about.
Your kitchen sink had stopped working properly that day and rather than call an actual plumber, your husband had insisted that he knew what he was doing and he would be able to fix it just fine. You watched as he worked, his head inside the cabinet as you leaned against the countertop fiddling with your newly gifted necklace from your daughter around your neck.
When water began to shoot out of the pipe, your husband cursing as water blasted his face, he attempted to pull away, knocking his head on the doorframe on the way out. As soon as you heard his shout, you felt the piece of macaroni shatter in your fist as you squeezed it tightly.
“Oh God, Buck are you okay?” You asked.
“God damn it!” He cursed again. “This hurts like shit.”
“Are you bleeding?” You asked, now standing in the puddle of water that coated the floor.
Pulling his hand away from the spot on his head that he had just hit and not seeing any blood, he shook his head.
Breathing a sigh of relief knowing that you wouldn’t have to be making a trip to the hospital that day, you took in the scene around you as the water continued to spray out of the pipe flooding the floor of your kitchen.
“Buck?”
“Yeah?” He asked looking up at you, you just now noticing the droplets of water coating his eyelashes and face.
“Can we call a plumber now?”
Looking around him and the puddle of water he was sitting in, he sighed, giving in.
“Yes, doll.”
“You know, it’s kind of funny thinking about it now.” You chuckled to yourself. “I was worried about you hitting your head on a cabinet and you’ve survived shit that only happens in movies.”
As Bucky laughed along with what you had just said, you stared up at your husband, catching the smile that had crossed his face for the first time in a week, noticing now the dark circles under his eyes and the scruff that hadn’t been shaved in days. He looked exhausted, as if he hadn’t slept since the last time you laid in bed beside him. You hadn’t checked the mirror yet, but you could guess that you didn’t look much different.
“I guess I am kind of worried.” You confessed.
“I know, but there’s nothing to worry about. I promise.”
For the first time since you had found out about his double life, you trusted in what he said.
When you nodded your head you felt as his hand brushed along your back, resting in the curvature of your spine. With his free hand, he slowly opened the door of the room, revealing your son and Sam on the other side.
Upon hearing the door open, your son’s head darted from the table he was sitting at towards where you were standing in the doorway. As soon as his eyes landed on you, you watched as he pushed himself away from the table, the metal chair he was sitting on scraping against the floor, practically toppling over as he hopped out of it and ran into your arms.
“Oof!” You grunted as his arms wrapped around you, his face digging into your stomach. “Miss me?”
He nodded against your stomach.
“You have a great kid.” Sam said, sitting in his spot at the table your son had just been at, coffee in hand. “Your daughter too, but this one gives me a kick.”
“Yeah?” You asked chuckling and as soon as you did your son pulled away from your embrace.
“I was so scared ‘cause I thought that those guys killed you, but then Dad came back with Captain America and Black Widow and then we came here and-” Your son began rambling, throwing his arms in the air wildly. “And then yesterday Captain America let me fly-”
“You took my son flying?” Bucky asked Sam beside you.
“Depends on what you consider flying.” Sam shrugged taking another sip of coffee.
“-and then I got to play with the shield and it’s so cool, Mom!” Grant finished saying, catching his breath.
“Wow buddy that sounds... dangerous.” You said eyeing Sam while ruffling your son’s hair. “But I’m glad you had fun!”
Just then you heard the door on the far side of the room open, Natasha emerging with your daughter in her arms. The first to move was Bucky making his way over to Natasha, taking his girl into his arms and bringing her over to you.
“Hi sleepy girl.” You cooed, reaching out for your daughter who had clearly just woken up from a nap.
When your hands met her skin, however, she quickly pulled way from your touch, curling more into her father’s chest.
“Your hands are too cold, Mommy.”
Practically feeling your heart shatter in your chest, you looked up to meet Bucky’s eyes just as downcast as yours. Pulling yourself away from your daughter, you clasped your hands together, biting back the pain that you felt from her rejection.
Noticing how you began backing away, Bucky frantically took his daughter’s hand in his vibranium one, staring down at her.
“C’mon your mom’s hands aren’t that cold, right?” He asked. “What about mine. You always say my metal one is cold, right bug?”
Resting her head against his chest, she shook her head.
“Buck, it’s fine. She's right.” You eased, backing away from everyone towards the door. “Does anybody else feel hot in here? It’s really hot. I think I’m just gonna take a breather outside-”
“Y/n-” Bucky called.
“It’s okay, I’m just gonna slip outside real quick.”You said, pulling on the handle of the door and swinging it open. “I’ll be right back.”
Before anybody could protest further, you stepped into the hallway, shutting the door behind you. As you walked down the hallway, you were realizing for the first time that you didn’t recognize this place and you didn’t know where you were going. The more you thought about it, you barely recognized anything anymore and you didn’t know where you were going to go from where you were right now.
How did you end up here? How did you go from having some guy across the bar from you catch your eye to pacing down the hallways of the Avengers Compound, ice flowing through your veins? Frustrated, tired and confused, you felt a sob you didn’t even realize was there catch in your throat. Throwing your hand to your mouth, you leaned against the hallway wall, feeling tears begin to fog your vision.
“Y/n?” Bucky called, following you down the hallway. “You know Becca’s weird like that sometimes. She just woke up and was tired and cranky-”
“James, it’s fine.” You said.
After a brief pause, you heard his voice again, the tone more shaky than the last.
“Y/n...”
“Buck I said-”
“Y/n watch out!” He shouted.
Shooting away from the wall, your head darted to the big windows at the end of the hall, an unfamiliar object coming straight towards them from the outside.
Before you could even have time to discern what was happening, you watched as the glass of the large windows shattered across the hallway and heard them hit the floor, small bits nicking your skin along the way. You listened as loud beeps emitted from the device, growing quicker by the second.
Snapping your attention back to Bucky, both of your eyes wide, the last thing you recalled was the feeling of his hands securing the back of your head and your lower back as you fell to the ground.

Lay All Your Love on Me (Chapter 7) (Part 1)
Paring: Soft Dark Alpha Lee Bodecker x Female Omega Reader
Summary: After moving to Knockemstiff, Ohio with your troubled parents, you find solace in the local Seven-Eleven. There, you bump into the Alpha sheriff, Lee Bodecker.
And then you keep bumping into him. There's just something about the chubby Alpha that keeps drawing you in. Now there's something going on with the new preacher of the church that you attend. Everything's a mess.
But you're an unbonded Omega. Life can turn to shit anyway.
Chapter Warnings: This chapter opens with Lenora's post-rape. Mentions of sexual coercion, as well as cheating from Preston's end. Unplanned pregnancy via rape is mentioned here too. Mentions of serial killers, and Carl just being downright creepy. Anger issues from the Reader, as well as gun violence and death threats. There's also another character death in here, so we're keeping count of the body count, lol. Some possessive behavior from Alpha Daddy. I've been writing him as soft!dark, but in this chapter and the next one, he's gonna be full-on dark. Maybe a tiny smidge of fatphobia in this one? Like a small smidge. A blink and you'll miss type of smidge. Just to cover all of my bases.
Additional Notes: I am so, so sorry for how long it took for me to update this on Tumblr. I usually update this fic on my AO3 first before I update it on here. But, since I split this chapter into two, it took longer than I thought. So this will just be part one, and part two should follow quickly!
Please read the chapter warnings before continuing with this chapter, as this chapter and the following chapter will have some disturbing themes. I want this to be a safe space for everyone. And, if you're a minor, please do not interact. Thank you!
I also have a series taglist for this series now, so if you'd like to be added to just the series taglist, let me know!

Two days before your annual visit... with Lenora in the afternoon
Lenora Laferty was crouched over the toilet seat in the girl’s bathroom, vomiting her guts out.
Sick.
She had been feeling sick for the past week.
She didn’t know what had caused this. Lenora had woken up every single morning for the past week with an urge to puke her guts out.
Emma and Arvin had been getting used to the sounds of puking in the morning.
It was becoming alarming.
Emma was fully ready to ask if she had been frolicking around with an Alpha.
But she hadn’t, because she had gotten so busy.
Later though, she would ask.
Now, now though, Lenora continued to puke her guts out.
Her Omega had been very vocal this past week. Screeching. Throwing a fit. Screaming and shouting at her, due to the changes coming in her body.
She hadn’t wanted this.
She had wanted none of this.
Lenora’s Omega had screamed and shouted when Lenora had entered Preston’s car. Her screaming had become louder when the disgusting Alpha, (married too, she should add), kissed her. She had thanked some fucking being up there when Lenora had pulled away, stammering and saying that he was married.
Oh. And he was married, did Lenora’s Omega mention that?
Yeah.
Mhmm.
The Preacher was married.
He had a bite mark on his neck.
Preston Teagardin had an Omega for a wife. No pups, though. From what the church gossip said, he only got an Omega because Omegas were easier to control. His Omega wife had been a young, defenseless thing. It was horrible, what Preston Teagardin did behind her back. He had raped a young Omega who had just presented in his car, and who was currently vomiting her guts out in her school bathroom.
Lenora’s Omega remembered how much she had pleaded, begged him to stop whatever he was doing to her because she was currently sweating so much. Beads of sweat rolling down her temples as her Heat made her scent riper. Lenora had remembered saying, pleading, crying out so many no’s. She had pleaded with the Preacher that all she wanted was to make the pain go away. All she wanted was the pain to go away.
“I’ll help take the pain away,” he had told her.
What he had done to her had been way worse.
Lenora had been pleading, nay, begging him no. No, no, no, no, no. All she wanted was some toys to help her out. She’d take them and go back to the Russell household to due with her Heat herself. Her pleading had turned desperate when she saw his wedding ring on his hand. She knew he was married. He knew he was married. It was a sin. Why was he doing this? To her? All she had wanted was for him to leave her alone. To stop looking at her, sniffing at her like she was something he could eat. Like a predator in the shadows, waiting to pounce on their prey.
And he had.
Oh yes, he had.
Lenora had remembered screaming until he had put a hand across her mouth. Flipped her over onto her stomach. Her Omega had been so busy screaming and throwing a fit in her mind that she didn’t register him pulling her dress up, yanking down her underwear, where she had slapped on a thick Slick Pad.
“No,” She had been begging again, “Please Preacher- you’re… you’re married. This ain’t right.”
“It’s okay. No one has to know.”
There was a moment of hesitation.
Preston had taken that slight beat of silence as a yes.
Lenora had screamed again.
The brunette, young Omega had lifted up her head from the toilet bowl. The urge to vomit was still there.
Never had she ever felt this sick.
He had violated her body. Taken a piece of her that she could never get back.
Now, Lenora’s Omega was fully convinced, that she was pregnant with this fucker’s pup.
Lenora could feel the bile rise up to her throat again. She vomited into the bowl again.
Her scent of cherries and vanilla was burning. Making her eyes water.
Not to mention her Omega was throwing the biggest hissy fit known to man.
Her Omega wanted blood.
She wanted justice.
But now…
Now...
Everything had gone wrong.
Everything had been utterly ruined.
At the same time in Knockemstiff with you and Lee...
Carl was staring at you.
Actually, he had been interested in you ever since he came here.
Why would his brother-in-law be with someone like you?
It perked his interest.
So he watched you.
All the while your eyes were completely focused on the TV.
When Carl had been young, he never really stood out in crowds. He was always awkward. He discovered a love for photography when he had been young. He had been the only Beta in his family. His father had been an Alpha, his mother an Omega, his sister an Omega, and his brother an Alpha. His parents had always favored his brother over him, even though he had been the eldest.
With all the things at home… he never felt any happiness.
Photography slowly became his comfort.
The first time he had killed someone was when he had been in his early twenties. A simple knife through the neck incident.
It had also been his first picture.
Carl… Carl couldn’t begin to explain the euphoria that had run through him then.
Like a switch had flipped.
He had found his calling.
His true calling.
And when he had married Sandy, he had made it his life’s work.
Every murder, every picture… it was like a piece of heaven. Like Carl was close to those pearly white gates. Almost as if he was being baptized and made holy.
The Beta man had always used his Omega wife as bait to lure in his victims. Omegas had naturally sweeter scents. Easier to lure in prey. Carl never had an issue with his wife getting all of the men. Alphas or Betas. He knew male Omegas didn’t exist. Just like female Alphas. So, he didn’t mind that his Omega wife did the bulk of the work.
Until now.
Knowing how good Omegas smelled, it didn’t surprise him by how good you smelled either.
But you?
You smelled really, really, really good.
Even better than Sandy.
You smelled like chocolate chip cookies. Freshly baked. As if he had just pulled them out of the oven.
And your gland.
There was Lee’s bite mark on your neck. Showing the entire county who was your Alpha. Who you belonged to. Carl had noticed Lee’s bite on his gland from you looked to be there longer. Almost like you had bitten him first.
How peculiar.
In your society of Alphas, Omegas, and Betas, it was very unusual for Omegas to bite first. The majority of the time, it was Alphas who bit first. Omegas who bit first were considered unnatural. Unheard. Just like female Alphas or male Omegas. Not only that, it was considered taboo for Omegas to bite first.
So why the hell did Lee allow you, a normal, boring Omega to bite first?
It puzzled him.
For the first time in his life, he didn’t want to murder you.
For the first time in his life, he was jealous of his wife.
His wife always got her boy toys, why couldn’t he get his own babydoll for once?
Why not be greedy and have his own turn this time?
He inched closer to you. Scooted over just a bit. It made you stop.
You did not trust Carl.
Not one bit.
No.
Nope.
Nada.
Your eyes were narrowed. From where you were seated in the living room, you could still feel his stare. You were sitting on the couch. The furthest away from the Beta.
Oh no.
You were not going to sit next to him. Sandy, maybe. But Carl?
Absolutely not.
You were not sitting next to that man. That damn Beta smelled like rotten cabbage soup. You’d rather die than sit next to him.
The TV was still playing. Playing something. Maybe a sitcom? You didn’t know. Maybe it was I Love Lucy.
You had never wanted to flee from a room faster in your life. Sandy was with Lee, and you heard some conversation as they had walked through the front door. Because of their shopping trip. Bags full of groceries. You had seen Lee smile at his younger sister and laugh, his tummy shaking. It had made you smile. Having his sister here with his Omega, his Bondmate… it was good for him. Very good. He had been happier than ever.
Your mother was next door. Talking to the neighbors. You suspected she just wanted to play nice.
But you were not going to play nice with this Beta.
No.
Never.
You were not.
You would not be nice to this man. You could fake a smile and pretend to be nice, but the next time you would see him, you were going to grab your shotgun that Lee pretended you didn’t have under your bed and chase him around the house with it.
Just in case.
Although your mood was a bit better, considering tomorrow, you and your mother would be going to visit Lenora and Arvin. You missed them. You hadn’t called them in weeks.
Sandy and Lee were still unpacking the food when you had gotten up stiffly, not even sparing a look towards Carl.
Lee saw you walking into the kitchen.
His smile dropped at the sight of the sour look on your face.
Sandy watched as you grabbed the phone and spun the dial.
Spin. Spin. Spin.
Spin. Spin. Spin.
Putting the phone near your ear, you waited.
There was a shuffling noise on the other line before you heard a familiar voice.
“Hello? Who is this?”
“Emma? It’s me.”
“Oh! Hello dear. Arvin’s here, would you like to talk to him?” Emma’s voice trailed off. “Uh-huh,” you were nodding, your voice low, “I’d like to talk to him.”
Him? Who was him?
Lee and Sandy stopped with the groceries.
There was a shuffling noise again and you heard her shout.
“Arvin! Get over here! Someone’s on the phone wantin’ ya!”
Lee froze.
His jaw clenched.
“… Hey! Why haven’t you been callin’ the house? Lenora presented!” came Arvin’s voice from the other line.
You blinked.
Clearly taken aback.
“O-Oh…” More blinking, “Lenora presented? What’d she present as? Omega? Beta?”
Sandy Henderson felt her world stop. Or freeze. Like one of those record scratches on a sitcom before the episode would rewind back to its proper place.
All of a sudden, she remembered Roy Laferty’s words before he died.
Lenora. Her name is Lenora. She’s my daughter.
“… Yeah, but she’s been actin’ real funny lately. Ya think you could talk to her when you and your Ma come to see us?” Arvin’s voice from the other line brought both Sandy and Lee back.
You were nodding.
“I mean, Omega to Omega. I love her and all, she’s my little sister, but I ain’t an Omega, ya know?” Arvin said.
“Mhmmmm… I get it…. Yeah… I’ll talk to her when we get there uh-huh… I miss you too… uh-huh… yeah… yes… I’m on my best behavior Arvin… no I’m not causin’ no trouble… I ain’t like you and your angry ass… naw… naw… shut up and smoke ya damn square Russell… mhmmm… yeah… got someone that I’d like you to meet one of these days Arvin… he’s my Alpha… love him so much…”
Sandy saw the corners of Lee’s lips curl up into a smile at that.
He was in love.
Her Big Brother was in love. She watched him come from behind you, walking towards you and gently put his hands on your shoulders, gently pushing you back towards him. She could see him bend his head down a little and rub his nose against your gland, making you giggle and squeal. Sandy saw you, watched as a smile came over your face. Your entire face lit up as you looked at your Alpha, who was deeply chuckling at your response.
There was an aching in her heart. Watching you and Lee interact was what she had wanted with Carl. A normal, loving husband. And she had that in the first few years of her marriage. Sandy had almost felt like a princess with her prince charming. Carl had been so charming.
And then the murders started happening.
Sandy had vomited the night before they had driven up to her Big Brother’s house. First, she had taken a shower and cried in it before she had actually vomited, puked her guts out into the toilet.
She had never suspected, nor expected her life to turn out like this.
She had never thought one day that she would be marrying a fucking serial killer.
No. Never.
“… Okay! Okay, yes! Okay. Bye.”
You hung up gleefully. Turning to Lee, you saw him looking so amused.
“Ya gotta stop doin’ that Lee, you’re too distractin’,” you scolded him playfully. Clearly amused, “Oh really?” Your Alpha even had his eyebrow cocked and everything. “Me? Distracting? Never sugar. I’m a good Bondmate. I always give my babydoll the space she needs.” He defended himself playfully. You just rolled your eyes. Looking at your sister-in-law, you spoke.
“Was he always like this growin’ up?” you questioned her. Sandy snorted. “Even worse,” she said solemnly with a nod. Lee just pouted.
“Gangin’ up on me. My little sister and my Omega. I’ll never forgive you two for this.”
Giggles filled the kitchen as you and Sandy snickered.
“What’re you makin’ for lunch?”
Just like that, the entire mood had shifted.
Lee had noticed you had tensed up from where you were in his arms.
Your Omega was alarmed.
Beta.
Smelly Beta is here.
Nasty Beta.
Like the church incident where you had seen the Preacher, you stiffened up. It was like you and your Omega had become one. Like you knew what the other person was thinking. In perfect sync.
Lee made eye contact with Sandy.
And then his gaze came over to his brother-in-law.
Carl was looking at you.
Lee was reminded of those leery looks other Alphas used to give his sister when they used to be young pups. Leery, predatory looks. Almost like his younger sister was something to be eaten.
Like now.
“… Lee and I bought some tomatoes. We might just make tomato soup with grilled cheese.” shrugged Sandy.
Sandy spoke your name.
You blinked.
“Lee was tellin’ me bout that book you were readin’… I haven’t been to the library in a while. You wanna go? After lunch?”
At her suggestion, you slowly nodded. Like you were coming out of a fog.
“Yeah… yeah… sounds great. Gonna go down to the Seven-Eleven, D-Lee, you want your usual?”
You had nearly slipped up.
“Yeah,” Lee said, his eyes still trained on Carl, “Yeah, that sounds good, Omega.”
“Okay.”
He pressed a kiss on the top of your head. His keys clinked together as he slipped the keys to his cruiser into your pocket. Happily humming, you said to Sandy, “Lemme get my heels on. Then we can go. Lee, ya left ya Pepsi cup in the car again… can you bring it inside to wash it?”
Nods came from your Alpha. A happy hum came from you. Maybe even a smile. Mood temporarily raised, you made your way into Lee’s room to grab your shoes.
Lee was now looking at you as you bounced down the hallway, the mere thought of slushies always putting you in a happier mood. Blue eyes continued to watch you and Sandy, watching intensely as the two of you walked to his cruiser. He saw you say something to his sister before rolling your eyes.
It was when he realized why you were rolling your eyes.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
Never had Lee spud to you so fast.
You were already rolling your eyes again.
“Lee,” you were saying, “did ya forgot?” You made hand gestures to the cup that was still in the car. The chubby Alpha cursed under his breath and accepted the cup from you. Cup now in his hands. Even knowing that the two of you did indeed have an audience. He couldn’t help himself. His arms went around you, making the familiar scent of your Alpha waft into your nose. It made your Omega sigh in content. And then, and then when he dipped his head down, his tongue licking, pressing down on your gland, scenting you, reminding everyone in this godforsaken county who the hell you belonged to, you melted.
Sandy’s eyes were watering. Due to the intense phenomenons, her Big Brother was giving off. Eventually, Lee lifted his head up. His eyes were dark. That dark, deep, possessive feeling all wedged and shoved down part of him satisfied.
At least for now.
Now, now, he could look down at you. Down at the mating gland that showed his bite.
“I’ll get you your usual. Cherry?”
“Yes.”
A thrill ran down your spine.
“Okay. We’ll be back-”
The sounds of the car opening and closing were heard.
“C’mon!” came Sandy’s shout from the passenger’s seat, “We gotta still come back to make lunch!”
You turned back to look at Lee.
“Go, Omega.” He told you. With one last kiss on the top of your head, you waved at your Alpha before getting into the driver’s seat.
Only after watching you drive off with his sister to the Seven-Eleven did Lee walk back inside, Pepsi cup gripped in his hand.
And when the door closed behind him, it was too late.
Lee Bodecker had been too quick for the brunet Beta man. A pudgy hand came to wrap around Carl's throat, and the man was shoved back. Right up against the wall. His small brown eyes widening in fear.
The first time Carl had met Lee, he had snickered to himself, looking at the Alpha who was his girlfriend’s older brother.
Lee had long made peace with himself, that he didn’t look like every other Alpha he knew. Or had known in his youth.
He knew he had rolls. He knew his tummy stuck out and jiggled. That his face was chubbier and less chiseled than it had been when he was younger. He saw those stretch marks on his stomach, on his thighs that used to be red, but were now faded and looked like lightning bolts etched onto his pale, milky skin.
Lee had given no shits, that everyone probably thought of him as the fat Alpha. His body type did not bother him in the slightest. Nor did it bother you. In fact, whenever the two of you were in his bed together, you had always cuddled up to him. Soft, sweet little murmurs and mumbles about how squishy he felt around you, how he kept you so warm. The way he’d wrap his big, strong arms around you, keeping you feeling so safe and warm. Like a warm blanket.
Carl Henderson did not know this Lee.
Nor was he used to it.
This Lee… his part of his brother-in-law that Lee kept so deeply buried… this piece of darkness which bubbled to the surface.
Carl wasn’t used to his.
Lee’s blue eyes were pure black. He looked almost like he was in a Rut. His scent of chocolate bourbon burned, making Carl have a headache.
The Alpha didn’t even need to try to pick him up.
There was a slamming noise.
“She’s mine.”
Lee’s Alpha was seething.
“You don’t look at her. You don’t talk to her. You don’t sit next to her.”
Carl’s nose was burning. He coughed. His eyes watered.
Lee’s expression on his face looked downright murderous.
“If I see or hear you harmed a fuckin’ hair on her head, I will fuckin' kill you.”
The burning urge to just put a fucking bullet through Carl's head came, rushed through him again.
His mind was completely made up.
Carl needed to die.
Carl was going to die tonight.

Meeting and Dating Brand Walsh
(Not my gif)(Requested by anonymous)
- Pretty much everybody in your town knows each other by name, phone number and house number so either way you would have known of Brand; and him of you, your entire life.
- That being said: you and Brand had been best friends since the two of you were little. You would always be over at the Walsh house and practically attached to Brand by the hip. You’d babysit Mikey with him, take the goonies trick or treating; any free time you had you spent it at their house.
- You were practically a part of the family and with that closeness came the gradual development of your feelings for the sweet boy who always took care of you and knew you better than anyone else.
- It seemed like the natural order of things that the two of you would get together. You’d both been; quite obviously, dancing around your feelings for each other for quite some time.
- Finally, one day after school while you were sitting in front of him; watching mtv while he exercised, he’d suddenly asked what you’d say if he asked you out. Without hesitating, you’d replied that you’d say yes.
“...Then do you want to go out?” He asked and you’d turned to look back at him with a smile, answering with a yes and watching as a grin lit up his face.
- The two of you went to a town fair for your first date which was most likely interrupted by the goonies more than a few times. You spent the afternoon running around playing games, going on rides and sharing food as you smiled and roughhoused a bit.
- You shared your first kiss at the end of the night, right that the gates of the fair. It was short, soft and sweet and you couldn’t have asked for any better. You shared a few more as he walked you home and the two of you said goodnight with as much love and hope in your hearts as possible.
- And just like that, everything in your lives seemed to fall into place.
- There’s a lot of pda in your relationship. He’s a very touchy person in general so of course he’s going to have his hands, arms and lips on you as much as possible.
- His arms are wrapped around you constantly.
- Handholding.
- Forehead kisses.
- Passionate kisses. He likes when you wrap your arms around his neck; or wrapping his arms around your neck.
- Soft kisses. Brand is a gentle, sweet boy under his jerky, older brother act and a lot of his kisses reflect that.
- Tight hugs where he lifts you off the ground.
- Getting slung over his shoulder.
- He can’t help but smile and/or shyly chuckle whenever someone mentions you but he always tries his best to get out a “leave her out of this wimp”.
- Being tugged into his lap.
- Cuddling on his arm chair.
- Brand doesn’t really care how you cuddle as long as you are cuddling. That being said: a lot of the time, you’ll cuddle while hugging each other.
- His mother pays more attention to Mikey most of the time so he’s somewhat starved for attention.
- He’s probably pretended to hurt himself/be hurt so that you’d baby him a little.
“Oh, I must have pulled a muscle or something ow ouch that really hurts-oh y/n, really, you don’t have to help- ow, ow, ouch. I mean really it’s fine, I’ll be fine.”
- Play roughhousing. What’s better than wrestling with your boyfriend?
- The goonies call him out for it, but; half the time, he lets you win whatever it is you’re doing together because he likes seeing your little excited reactions.
- A gentleman when it comes down to it. He’ll help you up/down places, open doors for you, carry you so that you don’t get your shoes wet or hold his jacket over his head, etc.
- Since you’ve been friends for so long, he just isn’t used to calling you pet names so he usually just calls you by your real name. Occasionally, he’ll throw in a sweetheart or babe every now and again.
- Him and Mikey both rush to the door every time it rings to see if it’s for them.
- Getting him to be nicer to the goonies. He isn’t necessarily awful to them but he does act like a jerky older brother so you get him to ease up on that a bit.
- He occasionally gets a little jealous over how cute you find his little brother. Everyone’s always soooo worried about Mikey and paying attention to little Mikey.
- It’s incredibly easy for you to persuade him to do things. All you have to do is give him a little smile and grab his arm/hand and he’s pretty much immediately surrendering to your whims.
- You once convinced him to let you do his makeup; he was folding his arms the whole time and the goonies may or may not have walked in but he let you. It also may or may not have been because he knows Mikey would have probably let you do it to him, and because he’s just a pushover for you.
- Bike rides. He paid a lot of money for his bike so he obviously wants to use it, and it gets you a little privacy; away from the goonies.
- Going on little adventures.
- Beach dates.
- Walking home from school together, or just always going to his house once classes are over.
- Television dates. What do teenagers do besides watch MTV?
- Wandering around town and just doing whatever comes to mind. The two of you rarely have a plan when you go out and usually just wind up finding a place to sit, talk, and makeout without his brother stumbling across you; though he probably still has.
- The goonies crashing your dates. You have a bit of a soft spot for them so you usually feel bad when telling them to leave, which ultimately leads to Brand relenting and letting them stay for a little while.
- Given that Mikey is his brother and his mother is his mother, he has a habit of absentmindedly correcting you when you make a mistake. It’s sort of nice though, since he never treats you like you’re stupid; just says the right thing without and moves on even thinking.
- He thinks everything you do is really cool. He especially thinks it’s cool when you stand up to people and/or act all tough; especially if you’re small.
- His mother obviously loves you. She’s liked you since you were little and probably figured that it was only a matter of time before the two of you got together.
- Driving the two of you places and/or helping him pass his next drivers test.
- Making sure he exercises responsibly.
- Different shows of strength; he really likes impressing you. Why not show off a little when you’re working so hard at something?
- Getting to wear his jacket since he’s protective and used to being an authority figure. He also just finds it cute that it’s so big on you.
- Cute little jokes, sarcasm, and quips. He’ll be able to make you laugh somehow!
- He’s always listening to you, even when it seems like he isn’t paying attention.
- He always notices when you’re upset and just opens his arms so that you can give him a hug. He’s good at and likes being able to comfort you; even if he can act like a jerk sometimes.
- He’s not an incredibly jealous person but he does get a little annoyed at certain people; it’s usually justified though ...unless it’s his brother. He won’t exactly try to hide it either, he’ll make it clear that he doesn’t like someone, he’ll just never give you a straight answer as to why. (His dislike of someone also isn’t helped by Mouth trying to provoke him.)
- He’s obviously very protective of you. He’s perfectly willing to fight someone or jump into danger right after you. Whenever you’re scared, you’ll probably have a habit of clinging to him because of it. He’ll merely pull you close and make sure you’re okay whenever you do.
- There’s a few arguments here and there but you don’t ever really fight very seriously. It’s not too often that he completely loses his temper so things don’t usually escalate beyond him getting the normal amount of annoyed.
- You just leave his house with a pointed “fine!”, spend some time on your own to cool off and then; maybe, return some time later with a willingness to make up. Either that or he’ll call you later that night and give an apology.
- “I love yous” every once in a while. He’s a typical teenager; and one with older brother tendencies at that, so he doesn’t say it too often though it is often enough.
- Well, he isn’t going anywhere any time soon, and his feelings for you certainly wont be either, so you have nothing to worry about in the long run. Might as well start planning the wedding now, honey.

Something New (~1700 words, Mal/Ben, shameless fluff content because I don’t care what Disney says, I’m writing a better wedding for these kids)
✨
“Hey, Mal.” Ben says. “Look at me for a sec?”
Mal turns. There’s a faint breeze blowing through the pines, and the air moving over the water of the enchanted lake smells fresh and sweet, despite the late-summer heat that’s making Mal’s hair fall limp and sweaty against the back of her neck. “Yeah?”
Ben’s smiling at her, that sweet one that makes his cheek dimple and his eyes go all bright and happy. He’d been sitting on one of the rocks by the lake, but slides off so that he’s kneeling instead, still staring up at Mal with that sweet look on his face. “Will you marry me?”
What.
“I--” Mal stutters. “Yes?”
“Really?”
Mal’s heart is pounding like she’s running from a dragon. From Mother. No need to sugar coat it when there’s nobody but herself to hear. “I think so,” she tries again, breath stuttering. “I mean, yes. I do want to marry you.”
Oh, gods above. Mal does want to marry him, and it’s terrifying. She’s never wanted to marry anyone before, and she’s thinking about it too much now, and oh, Evie is going to absolutely flip when she hears this. “What the fuck.” Mal says. As Ben scoops up her hand and kisses it. There’s no new ring in his hand, but he kisses the seal, the one that Mal’s been wearing since that first day where she choose this new life, when she chose to be good.
“I love you,” Ben says. “And I want to marry you.”
“And I love you.” Mal says back, automatically. “Why do I feel like I’m being completely blindsided by this?”
Ben shrugs. He’s still down on his knees, and the sunlight filtering through the trees is turning his hair all golden. He’s so earnest about these things. Mal loves him, whatever the hell that means.
“I couldn’t tell you that,” Ben says, leaning into Mal’s leg a little bit. “I wasn’t trying to be subtle, you know. The whole, like, cute place out here, making time to actually get a proper date instead of just crashing after class, and I did literally ask you how you felt about marriage the other week.”
“I thought it was a hypothetical.” Mal says, almost automatically. “I thought you were asking for, like, some kind of vague time in the future, not now.”
“Do you want me to take it back?” Ben asks, looking a bit taken-aback himself. “I can ask you later, or never, if that’s what you want.”
“No!” Mal exclaims, and makes a grabby motion at her fiance, whatever the hell that’s supposed to mean. Ben’s got a very kissable sort of face, so it only makes sense for Mal to kiss him a little bit.
“Okay.” Ben says, but it comes out sort of like ‘Ookey’ because of the way Mal is sort of holding on to his face. “Not taking it back then.”
“I think I’m gonna need a hot second to process this.” Mal says, once she’s pulled back from kissing the daylights out of her prince, what the fuck. “Are we like-- what does this even mean?”
Ben buries his grin in Mal’s cheek, as is right. “Well, when two people love each other very much--”
“Shut up! Are we like, is this it?” Mal asks, tipping over into something a little bit hysterical. “Do you have some kind of royal bling hidden somewhere you’ve been waiting to pass on until now?”
Ben kisses her again, just a little bit. “Well, I do sort of have to do this publicly at some point,” he says, voice low like he’s at least sorry about it. “It’s a whole tradition, and my parents will get really mad if I don’t, and you know the whole deal. I was going to give you the ring then.”
“I want fair warning before you make me have emotions in public,” Mal says, quick as anything. She’s crying a little bit, oh gods. “And the council will get mad, you mean. Your parents accept me for who I am now.”
Ben kisses the tears that are sliding down Mal’s cheek. “Yeah. My parents want me to be happy, and you make me really happy, so. The council was still hoping that I’d get married to one of the Auradon Prep princesses, but well, you saw how well that was working out.”
Mal snorts through her tears. “You like a bit of rough, huh princling?”
“I like you.” Ben says, oh-so-earnestly. Oh, she’s going to cry again. Ben must notice the way that Mal’s face is going warm and blotchy pink with the emotion, because he pulls back sort of abruptly to put his hands on her shoulders instead, moving his thumbs gently along the tense muscles there. “Is that too much? I shouldn’t say I like you?”
“I-- I don’t know,” Mal stutters. She feels sort of sick, but in a good way. A stomach-flipping, butterflies way. “I feel sort of like I’m going to-- I think I’m having an emotion?”
“Does it hurt?” Ben asks, grinning.
Mal smacks him gently with the palm of her hand, and leaves it there, cupping his sweet face. “Yeah! It does. What’re you gonna do now, huh? You’re making fun of me, and I’m hurt. You can’t say something like that to your girlfriend. That’s not Auradon-approved.”
Ben’s grin only gets wider. “Ah, but I’m not saying it to my girlfriend!” he says, approaching unbearable levels of disgusting joy. “You said yes! You’re my fiancee now.”
Mal has to laugh, and even if it comes out a little hysterical sounding it’s better than nothing. “Evie says it doesn’t count until there’s a ring on it, and I don’t see any ring yet, princeling. Gotta get me that bling and then you can be mean to me all you want.”
“I do have a ring, you know,” Ben says, leaning into Mal’s touch. “I thought you wouldn’t want to see it yet.”
Mal’s not sure what exactly to do with that one. Sure, she’s got some different traditions around relationships, but it’s hard to miss any wedding traditions from back home when none of the villains she knew even got married unless it was to publicly announce an alliance, and even then those marriages were usually short lived and an excuse for a night of indecency and public innuendo. Nobody but sidekicks got married for love on the isle, and while gangs might have exchanged some sort of trinket to make sure they were marked as running together, the bracelets and tattoos didn’t have the same sort of sentimental value as proper wedding jewelry.
Unless.
“Oh. Until you do it publicly?” Mal realizes. She’s been the one to put more emphasis on doing things the ‘right’ way, and even after some of the revelations that came with her somewhat public meltdown last year, she’s still got some hangups about doing things the way that Auradon society would have them done. Evie would have some psychoanalysis about it , that’s for sure.
Whatever. It’s fun to figure out how to blend in to proper high Auradon society, especially now that she knows there’s no pressure from Ben to do so. As long as she’s not actively insulting people or trying to stir up too much trouble, he doesn’t care what kind of lowkey, simmering dissent she’s stirring up against his father. It’s like blending in anywhere else, really. All it takes is a little practice and some bending of the rules, and now that she’s got a good enough handle on what boundaries can be pushed, it’s almost like a game and not like a terrifying unknowable pit of anxiety that’s consuming her bones from the inside out.
Yeah.
“Yeah,” Ben agrees. “I thought you’d want to have something left of the surprise for when I do it publicly, but you can look at it once we get back if you don’t wanna wait.”
“Yeah? Is it in the back of your sock drawer too?” Mal asks, teasing now that she’s got her mind under her again.
Ben goes a bit pink about the cheeks. “Maybe,” he says. “So what? It’s not like anybody’s looking there.”
“Knowing you, you’re keeping some kind of historical relic in the back of your drawers, huh?” Mal asks, sweeping her fingers through her fiance’s hair. Fiance. It’s not sort of a nice sound to it, actually.
“No.” Ben says, immediately. “It’s not a relic. Not for you, Mal Bertha, first of her name, first of the VKs to come over to Auradon. You deserve something that’s all your own.”
“I’m not--” Mal starts.
Ben cuts her off. “You are. You’re the first Mal, and that’s what matters. Your mom might not have given you a full name, but you made one for yourself. That’s what we’re about, aren’t we? We’re the ones in charge of our own destinies, not some stuffy adults who are still living in the past.”
“Yeah.”
“Are you crying?” Ben asks, because he’s awful sometimes and wants Mal to talk about her emotions.
Ugh. Dragons don’t cry. “Not yet, asshole.” Mal gets out, around the weird feeling in her throat, and okay, yeah, the tears that are threatening to slip out.
“Do you want me to stop being nice to you? I can smack you if that would help.” Ben offers unhelpfully, still grinning a little bit. What a dork.
Mal lets out a choked sort of laugh, and leans back to offer her cheek, tears and sweat and all. “Yeah, actually. Just gimme a good whack, okay? I’m sure that’ll go over great with the others.”
“We can say you drove into a branch.” Ben says, and presses a kiss to her cheek instead.
“Oh geez, don’t even remind me,” Mal says, wincing a bit at the memory. She’s still getting the hang of the whole moped thing, and narrow forrest trails don’t make for the easiest learning experience. “I think I still have pine needles in my teeth.”
Ben kisses her again. “Sorry.”
“No you’re not.” Mal reminds him.
“I’m not!” Ben says gleefully, and hugs Mal so hard she can feel her ribs protest a little bit. “I’m going to marry you.”
“Dork.” Mal says, ruffling his hair.
“Yeah.” Ben agrees, and pulls on the sweaty end of her ponytail in something like retaliation.
“You wanted to make this official, beastie boy?” Mal says, teasing but also so deadly serious that she can feel her heartbeat all the way in her fingertips.
“Yeah,” Ben breathes. “Yes, Mal.”
“What’s more official than a little true love’s kiss, huh?” Mal breathes, and kisses him.

“Do you think this will ever end, Sirius? Like, do you ever think we’ll win?” Y/N sat at the small table in the kitchen of Grimmauld Place. Sirius sat at the other side, taking leisurely sips from a beer bottle and looking much older than he actually was. His eyes were sunken in from the lack of sleep and his forehead had permanent frown lines. This broke Y/N’s heart because, in her mind, Sirius was still the happy, go-lucky young adult she had married. But in reality, he was a sad man confined to the walls of his dark childhood home.
“Of course, everything ends sooner or later,” His voice was gruffer than she remembered. Maybe that was a side effect of the dementors, or maybe it was from the smoking habit he hadn’t been able to shake since his mid-teens. Y/N couldn’t tell.
“I’m not quite sure how to respond to that.” Sirius allowed himself one shallow laugh into his beer.
“All I’m saying is to trust Harry, darling. He’s strong and he will succeed.”
“He shouldn’t have to.” Y/N’s thumb twisted her well-worn wedding band on her finger. Sirius noticed this and covered her hand with his. A brief moment of silence fell over the kitchen.
“We should really clean that, you know. It’s not good for the emerald to be dirty,” The green stone caught the dim light and glistened. Y/N smiled, thinking about how that ring had been with her through so much.
“I would, but I don’t want to take it off.” Sirius sat back and grinned, instantly looking ten years younger.
“It’s alright, it won’t offend me if you take it off for five minutes.” His smile was lopsided and the perfect embodiment of everything Y/N loved about Sirius. “I’m honestly still surprised you have it.”
“Of course I still have it, my dorky husband gave it to me.”
His smile now reached his eyes, which was rare nowadays. “Thank you, Y/N.”
“What are you thanking me for?”
“For standing by me, even through Azkaban.”
“I will always stand by you, my love.
~
“If I die, Y/N, can you make sure I’m buried in either satin clothes or a satin-lined coffin?” Sirius and Y/N found themselves back at the kitchen table. It seemed to be their meeting place, especially late at night when no one was awake.
“Well, you’re not going to die, first of all. And second of all, why satin?” Y/N stirred her tea and took a sip, allowing the flavor to overtake her senses. The house creaked, making Sirius switch positions uncomfortably.
“It’s an old joke I had with James, honestly. Mother always hated satin, and I never knew why. Also, weirdly enough, roses. James always said he wants to get buried with a rose and that I should get buried in satin to spite her.”
Y/N thought back to the night in which Remus, Petunia Dursley, and herself were sat in the living room of Number 4 Privet Drive planning the Potters’ funeral. Y/N was tasked with looking over James’ will. She asked Remus why he wanted to ger buried with a single rose, in which he shrugged. Petunia had insisted that it was silly, but Y/N made sure his request was fulfilled.
Y/N took a long gulp of her tea, trying to appear as if she was observing the table cloth’s pattern. “Well, that answers why James’ will said to be buried with a rose.” Sirius sucked in harshly through his nose.
“Was he?”
“I made sure of it.”
~
Sirius set his magic mirror on the kitchen table, a cold dinner remaining untouched next to it. The meal had been served hours previously, but Sirius’ anxious stomach didn’t allow him to eat his food.
“Penny for your thoughts?” Y/N asked gently as her eyes scanned his face. She used to be able to read his emotions like a book, but some time during those twelve years, he built a new emotional wall she had yet to break. His eyes glanced at hers for a split second before returning to the reflective surface of the mirror.
“We don’t use pennies, we’re British wizards.”
Y/N rolls her eyes fondly. “You know what I mean, Pads.”
“I’m just thinking about how me going to Azkaban really must have fucked with your life. I mean, you were seen as a murder’s wife.” His eyes pull from the mirror and brush over Y/N’s face, similar to how she did moments earlier.
“It was hard, I’m not going to lie, but I never thought you killed James and Lily. Not even for a second.”
“Did you wear your ring?”
Y/N paused, picking her words very carefully. “I wore it around my neck on a chain. It was too dangerous to wear it on my finger.”
“Yeah? I’m sure you were shamed,” His eyes drooped and the frown lines on his forehead grew more pronounced.
“I was threatened, yes, but nothing more than words shouted at me. It was hard, but I had Remus.”
Sirius gestures to the mirror on the table and sighs. “Do you think Harry will call?”
“I’m sure he will, just give him some time. He just got to Hogwarts.”
~
Y/N sat at the table of Grimmauld Place, but this time Sirius didn’t accompany her. Instead, Remus filled Sirius’ chair. He, too, looked much older than he was as they sat in silence. Y/N observed the green gem on her finger in an attempt to ground herself.
“I guess it’s just us again, Moons,” Y/N’s voice cracked. The house was now oddly quiet without Sirius; not that he was overly loud, but his presence alone spoke volumes. The building felt even emptier without his warm energy and inviting arms.
“Yeah, I suppose it is.” His eyes were glued to the wilted daisy bouquet on the table. Molly had attempted to liven up the house, but even they were riddled with death. It seemed as though all beauty was drained from the world.
“I don’t know what I’m supposed to do. This isn’t fair.”
“It’s not, but this is what we have to work with,” Remus brought both hands to wipe down his face. He looked tired, both physically and mentally. “We have to be strong for Harry. We need to support Harry.”
Y/N sniffled again, “You’re right.” She took a shaky deep breath. “He’s with James now, he’s happy.”
“He’s with James now,” Remus repeated. Y/N couldn’t decide whether Remus wished to be with James as well or not.
~
“It was weird,” Harry’s voice shook slightly. “They were only a few years older than me, all of them. Sirius and Remus were only teenagers.”
Y/N pushed a plate of cookies towards Harry. It was months after the final battle, and after isolating himself, Harry had finally reached out to someone from the wizarding world. The pair were sat at the table in Y/N’s small flat while Remus’ words echoed through her mind. We have to be strong for Harry. We need to support Harry.
“Well, it’s said that in the afterlife, you take the age where you were happiest. For them, it was before your parents’ death, which would make them teenagers.” Y/N responded, taking one of the treats for herself. She couldn’t say she was surprised when Harry had shown up at her flat, the two had grown close before Sirius’ death.
“I wonder what age I’ll take.”
“Hopefully, it will be when you are much older. You have a lot of life left to be happy.”
Harry took off his glasses, wiped them on his shirt, and returned them to his face. “I want to be happy, I just don’t think I can.”
“You just went through something very traumatic, sweetheart, it’s okay to not be okay. It will happen, be patient with yourself. Let yourself heal.”
“Do you think you’ll ever be happy again?”
Y/N was silent for a long time before she was able to answer.
“I think eventually, I will be. Some things never heal, but they can scar. Losing my friends and husband will just take a long while to scar, as will the war.”
“It will take a long time for me too, I reckon.” Harry took one of the gingerbread men from the plate and took a large bite.
“If it makes you feel better, you aren’t alone. You have me, and the Weasley’s, and so many others.”
“You have me too, Y/N. I know you think you have no one, but you have me.”
Y/N smiled, silent tears rolling down her face. “We can work on being happy together.”
~
Harry made it a routine to visit Y/N regularly from there on out. And as he grew, their relationship changed from mentorship to a deep friendship.
“Have you looked into working at Hogwarts?” Harry said when Y/N discussed her unemployment.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, you always say you want to teach and you’re quite good at it. I’m sure McGonagall would be more than happy to pass her transfiguration position to you.” Harry grinned, munching on a sub sandwich he brought for them to share.
“Oh, I could never live up to her! Besides, I’m not sure I could even walk the halls of Hogwarts again.” Y/N wiped her mouth politely with a napkin.
“What if I told you I already asked McGonagall and she said yes?” Harry had to bite back a grin as he watched his friend’s eyes grow wide.
“Harry! What-”
“I know, I know. But, I’m going to be the new DADA professor, and I thought it might be nice to have a friend there with me,”
“You’re going to be a professor?! Oh, Harry…They’d be so proud of you.” Y/N’s shocked face turned into a look of admiration for the boy.
“Well, they’ll be proud of you too, once you accept your new position.”
“You’re a little shit, you know that?”
Harry’s face twisted into a shit-eating grin. “It’s the least I could do, considering all you’ve done for me.”
Y/N pulled the younger boy into a hug. “Thank you, Harry. Really, thank you.”
~
Y/N skillfully walked over the overgrown floor of the Forbidden Forest. It was a Saturday, meaning most students were at Hogsmeade or sleeping, so she decided it was the perfect time for her to collect acorns. The young Professor had been teaching her second-year students how to turn acorns into actual heads of corn and had run out by 3rd hour.
The roots of the huge trees were very overgrown, so her gaze was fixated on her feet in order not to slip. It was a beautiful morning, with the sun just barely hung in the sky and the morning birds tweeting happily in the trees.
She was enjoying her small adventure until something out of the ordinary caught her attention, making her acorn harvest come to a halt. It was a smooth black stone, which seemed to be carved into a diamond shape. Y/N bent down and picked it up in order to observe it better. It was quite heavier than it appeared, and a bit sharp.
“Hello there, Professor,” A voice said out of the blue, making Y/N jump back. Her eyes came to meet the gaze of someone she never expected to see again.
“Sirius?” Y/N’s voice came out as a slight whimper. He appeared to be the cheeky 18-year-old boy she had fallen in love with, complete with bun, leather jacket, combat boots, and chains. Y/N took a step back in shock.
“Y/N,” He responded stepping closer. The gruff in his voice was completely nonexistent. “It’s a bit rude not to say hello back.”
All happiness seemed to return to his face; the wrinkles in his skin were smoothed and his eyes held the familiar mischievous sparkle Y/N knew like the back of her hand.
“How are you-? You’re dead!” Sirius chuckled and nodded.
“Thanks for reminding me, love.” His voice wasn’t rude, but light and teasing. His ring clad pointer finger points at the rock in Y/N’s hand. “You found the resurrection stone.”
She looked down at the rock then back at Sirius. “I can’t believe this. I never thought I’d see you again,” Her hand grabbed the ring around her neck. She began to wear her wedding band on a chain again to avoid questions from curious students. “You’re so young, you’re a teenager!”
“I know, hot right? I always loved this outfit.” His eyes were filled with love. “You’re even more gorgeous than how I left you,”
Tears flowed down her cheeks. “I miss you so much, Sirius. I need you, I need you so fucking bad.”
“I know, baby, I miss you so much. I am so proud of you, you’re doing so well. And a Professor! Look at you!”
“Can you see us? I mean, from the afterlife.” Y/N placed her acorn filled bag on the ground.
“Yes, we are always around. You just can’t see us. Actually, I’ve attended some classes of yours. I had to see how good you actually were.”
Y/N’s cheeks heat up. “Oh??”
“Calm down, love.” He laughs without a care in the world. “You’re absolutely brilliant! Harry, too. Remus said his boggart lesson was better than his.”
“I can’t believe you’re here, oh my god.” Y/N reached a hand out to touch him, but it passed through his form like air. Sirius’ eyes filled with sadness.
“I’m here, minus the blood and guts, I guess. We only have a little bit of time left.”
“What? No!”
“I know, babe, but anytime you need me I’m here.” He points at the rock then at her heart. “I love you so much, Y/N. So, so much.”
“I love you even more. All of you, I love all of you.”
“James and Lily asked me to tell you thank you. For looking after Harry, I mean. All of us are thankful, really. You two have been good for each other. They also say they miss you,” He smiles sadly. “We all miss you. Especially me though.”
His form starts to dim, making Y/N grow sad again. “We’ll be together again someday, my darling.”
“That we will, sunshine. I am so proud of you,” He grows paler, but his smile widens. “Just remember, every time you see a rainbow, that’s me there with you. I love you, sweetheart.”
“I love you, darling. Until the day I die and after that.” As Sirius fades out of existence, Y/N puts the stone in her acorn bag and exits the forest.
The next class she taught, second years turning acorns into ears of corn, the window cast a large rainbow across the wall. The rainbow didn’t leave until Y/N retired for bed that night.

Look at Me, Senpai - Hinata x Reader x Daichi (Pt. 3)
Summary: Reader starts to see Hinata in a different light once he returns from Brazil. It turns out Hinata’s inability to give up isn’t just something restricted to the court. (~1.8k words)
Warnings: fem!reader, nsfw, infidelity, a touch of the yandere
A/N: Idk how long this fic is gonna get but we’re nearing the big mess. I hope you enjoy reading and let me know what you think!
Part 1|| Part 2 || Part 3 || Part 4 || Part 5
---
Leave him.
Hinata’s voice still rang in the back of your head but you would ignore it. Today, you would try on wedding dresses. You’d chosen Daichi, after all.
You trailed behind your older sister, who had flown in from overseas just for the occasion, and your mother who chattered excitedly between themselves, linked arm in arm, as they essentially tore through the bridal shop ahead of you.
“Try this, ___! It’s so beautiful and just look at that embroidery!” your sister insisted, almost snatching a backless and lacy gown from the hands of a terrified employee.
“No, this looks better!” Your mother pushed back, pulling another dress off the rack with no decorum to the other employee’s obvious dismay.
“Look at how high that collar is! Is she getting married to God?”
Meanwhile, you wondered if it was sacrilegious to be wearing white at the wedding given the circumstances.
If you truly loved him, you wouldn’t be like this with me. Why pretend?
Why not be 100% true to yourself?
Hinata’s dreadful honesty continued to weigh heavily on you as you weaved in and out of dresses, feigning excitement as best you could in order to not tip off your annoyingly perceptive sister.
Only marry someone you love.
“You look beautiful, ___. I think this is the one,” your sister spoke up from the outside, now slipping into the dressing room to get a first glance at you once your mother slipped off for a quick bathroom break.
You whispered a word of thanks as you looked yourself now clad in the one you had also settled on as the perfect gown in the full length mirror, trying to envision the look on Daichi’s face as you came down the aisle, the picture of an angel in the flesh, promising to devote yourself to him forever. You could see your sister purse her lips behind you from the reflection, and you knew she was sizing up your facial expressions.
Oh God, maybe she wouldn’t-
“Cold feet?”
She did.
Your heart sank as you bit your lip, trying to hold back tears, but before you could your sister continued in a soft voice.
“It’s not unnatural to have cold feet.” She took a seat in the small stool set at the corner of the room and crossed her legs before looking at you carefully, a reassuring smile spread on her face. “You remember that I almost ran away the day of my wedding, right?”
The image of her drunk and crying two nights before, eerily calm one night before and practically jumping out the window in her own white dress thirty minutes before she gracefully walked down the aisle came to mind and you found yourself stifling a laugh. She smiled in response to your reaction, all was not lost as long as you could still laugh.
“It’ll be fine, as long as you love him.”
Did you love him?
“How were you sure?” You asked now as you hastily slipped out of the dress. A part of you wondered if you were just being dramatic, but the gentle fabric felt as though it were tightening on your skin despite being the perfect fit.
She let out a sigh and crossed her arms over her chest.
“I want to say something wise and romantic, like, ‘it was when we met eyes’ or ‘when he walked three miles in the snow to change my flat tire’, but to be honest, it was probably when I realized I couldn’t imagine life with anyone else. I know that sounds cliché but it’s the honest truth.”
She looked you in the eyes and sensed the waters muddying within rather than clearing up, and pursed her lips.
“If you want to tell me what’s going on, you can.”
Your body tensed for a millisecond. You knew you could tell her anything, but this? Cheating on your fiancé so shamelessly right after the engagement? There were limits to human understanding, but then again, maybe admonishment from someone you trusted would get you on the right track.
You opened your mouth to speak but before you could offer up a single word, your mother rushed back into the room.
“Why’d you take off the dress before I could see it???” She fussed, and you grinned in response to her disappointed expression before switching back to the task at hand.
“Quick, put it back on!”
You would spare sissy dear the awful details.
---
Hinata didn’t call or text for the following week, and by the fifth day, the phantom rings and vibrations of your cell phone had started to drive you crazy. It was hard to concentrate on your art, on tasks of daily life, or preparing your wedding when all you could see flash in your mind’s eyes was what he looked like when you were under him. You told yourself it was the afterglow of lust and would eventually pass.
As if to palliate the pain of your separation, Daichi started to come home earlier than usual, and it began with him popping home at exactly noon on the next Saturday with flowers just because, an assortment of chocolates and takeout from your favorite restaurant.
“Let’s have a picnic,” he suggested, with a kiss on the forehead for his best girl.
You turned off your phone as you followed him out to the small park down the street, spending the early afternoon basking in the sunshine of spring and the warmth of Daichi’s affectionate regard.
Daichi pulled you into his arms as usual as you watched children play in the park with furry companions, couples riding bicycles and old ladies exchange gossip (and maybe launch a few surreptitious glances at the two of you). While the two of you were not strangers to public displays of affection, you couldn’t deny that you were beginning to become uncomfortable the more you noticed people looking at you. You couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that maybe suddenly they were seeing you not as a regular couple at the park but for who you really were: a woman with a terrible secret and a man who was none the wiser.
Did it matter if you chose to be good to him from now on? Would that account for the betrayal?
Would that erase the fact that a small part of you wished Hinata was holding you right now instead?
---
Two weeks passed and you fought the urge to call Hinata Shoyo.
By now you knew it was something other than lust that drew you to him, now that Daichi took the time to satisfy the need for carnal intimacy every few nights, even if it wasn’t quite the passion of before, when you had just graduated from high school and all you had were your hopes for the future and each other, but a different type of practiced passion altogether between you.
Daichi knew all the things you liked and exactly how to make your body react in the way he wanted it to but while you were satisfied, you were still wanting.
Of what? Could you really say it was Hinata that you needed after such a short time together?
Daichi’s lips and tongue trailed down your soft belly as he held on firmly to your wrists above you, teasing you with promises of entering your privacy every time his mouth drew near, then wandered back up to your bosom.
“Not yet, darling, just wait for me like this.”
He leaned in, pressing his length against your thigh, forcing you to arch your back and buck against him, but he wouldn’t indulge you, laughing softly while his hold preventing you from reaching out to him remained steady.
“P-please, I want you, Daichi, just let me feel you, please.”
He had been edging you for the past twenty minutes but it felt more like hours and your body craved the feeling of fullness between your legs.
“You want to feel me, baby girl?” He growled, earning you a lash of the tongue right at your sex, sending a current through your spine.
“Yes...,” you let out a whimper, “please let me feel you.”
“This isn’t enough?” He asked, between licks and slurps of your wet cunt. “You taste so sweet for me, little baby, what if this is all I want to do now?”
Your mind swam with muddled pleasure as you closed your eyes and you were no longer thinking straight, all you had left in you was the ability to beg.
“Please, please put it inside me,” you continued to whine as he nibbled on one of your lower lips.
“Beg for Daddy’s cock,” he said, now kissing your mouth again, a large hand now gripping both of your wrists to hold you back as he pressed against you, the pressure on your chest and the pressure of his member just knocking at your entrance making it hard for you to breathe.
“P-please stop teasing me, S-Shoyo.”
A pause.
“What?” Daichi’s voice had reverted back to his regular voice, no longer thick with lusty mischief but with confusion, and he stopped his movements, unsure as to what you were trying to say to him. His grip relaxed around your hands, setting you free.
Your heart stopped as a panic set in, sobering you up almost entirely and you had to think fast, fast, fast.
“C-can ‘shoyu’ be out safeword, babe? I just wanna try something today, something a little different...” you mumbled, surprising yourself with how quickly you could lie under pressure. Awful. You were so awful.
He gave you a confused look, given that you didn’t usually use safewords, but it wasn’t a bad idea anyway, and he nodded with a small shrug before resuming with kisses to your neck.
Your heart continued to pound and you hoped he didn’t notice that the drum of your heartbeat now played fear. That was a close one.
Something had to give soon.
---
The next day, Daichi seemed to have expedited that process for you.
“Hey, I’m gonna have Hinata come for dinner tomorrow night,” he called out from the shower casually as you started your skincare routine. If not for the fact that you were literally splashing cold water in your face, there would be no other reason for the ice now running through your veins.
“No problem right? I can come back early to help you make dinner beforehand.”
“... No problem.”

Alaric’s in Love with You but Klaus Was Your One and Only
contains s5 TO spoilers that you’ve probably seen before since you’re on tumblr. set in legacies.
It started when Hope returned to Mystic Falls with you in tow, someone Alaric hadn’t seen in over a decade. You’d changed; physically and mentally. Your hair was darker and shorter, brushing your shoulders as well as your eyes had lost that pretty, dangerous sparkle. You were less extroverted, but that was understandable since you had gone through tremendous heart break.
It also didn’t help that you’d returned to a place that once was your home, the changes having a much heavier and worse effect on you than you had anticipated. You’d spent a great deal of time staring at the Stefan Salvatore Memorial plac, reliving the past, not even having the courage to enter the library.
The way you closed off was only half the reason Alaric and you hadn’t slipped back into old habits. The other was that frankly, it wasn’t easy for him to trust a Salvatore, much less a Mikaelson. You just so happened to be both; the woman who brought the two vampire families together. He didn’t see that as good in any way, shape or form.
He’d never had an issue with you, it was always your brothers, husband and his family stirring the pot and setting paths of destruction in their wake. It was rare for you to aid in it voluntarily, but at the end of the day, you were still a vampire. No matter how much you tried to avoid darkness and evil, you couldn’t hide from something that was apart of who you were.
But then again, he hadn’t seen you in so long. It was before you had officially moved to New Orleans, before you had truly began to cope with Stefan’s death and before you had helped in raising a child. Now you had gone through all of that, along with losing the love of your life and it didn’t take you opening up to him to notice that you weren’t the same person.
Out of nearly two centuries, the past decade had been the worst of your life as well as the best. You’d grown so much and Alaric couldn’t say that he didn’t like who you had become.
He was surprisingly able to set aside your supernatural nature enough to grow quite fond of you. With the help of the people around you, the distraction of being co-headmaster and weekly phone calls with Damon, you were able to break through the grief-stricken shell you’d built around yourself. It allowed Alaric to truly see you again.
At your core, you were still (Y/N), the woman he bantered with in the early morning hours in his office over take out that you had convinced him on buying. The woman who would shout, “YES,” when she’d crack a case all on her own, flashing him a breathtakingly gorgeous smile that made his heart flutter.
He could still pinpoint the day you took your wedding ring off on a calendar, stating that, “I can’t go on everyday with this reminder. I need to live my life.” He knew that was hard for you, since you had refused to take it off for a full two years following Klaus’ death. Perhaps, it meant something.
His brain would turn to mush every time you pulled him in for a hug after a particularly dangerous day, or when you’d catch him staring and give him a quizzical almost smug look. He had a hard time in controlling how his pulse would quicken up when near you, aware that if you listened for it, you’d hear it.
You were far from dumb, as well as the students attending the school. His daughters often gave him a look when they’d catch him acting weird and Hope had even cornered him asking if he had a thing for you with a threatening look on her face.
“I do not have a thing for Dr. Salvatore...”
“Salvatore-Mikaelson,” Hope corrected, arms crossed over her chest. She could see through his bullshit and both of them knew it.
“Look,” she sighed, “(Y/N) is like a mother to me. I’ve known her all my life. For your sake and for hers, I’m going to be completely honest. I doubt she’ll ever get over my dad.”
Sincerity shone in her eyes, a slight frown in her brow. “You didn’t get the chance to but I saw them together. Nothing could match up to what they had. They were soulmates. She doesn’t want anyone else.”
Alaric cleared his throat, briefly adverting his gaze to the floor. “I..I..” He stumbled over his words, unaware of what to say. Deep down, it wasn’t what he wanted to hear. But he couldn’t let his façade drop.
“Have a good day, Hope.”
He’d sat down in his office to mull over her words, pulling a hand over his face every time he’d get too caught up in his thoughts.
If what Hope told him was the case, then what about the little flirtatious glances? Or the way you snuggled into him when you fell asleep in his office that one night?
A small smile tugged at his lips when he thought about how you had berated him after he went off on his own to fight a monster. You had been fuming, eyes watery, yelling about how he was only human and a selfish jackass to not think about all the people who cared about him.
How you cared about him.
He hadn’t felt the way he did since Jo died, not even for Caroline, and it was one he had missed. One he’d been harboring for months and he felt like it was time to confess. If his feelings were requited, he couldn’t imagine a better future than that, a better feeling than that. It was all he was focused on when he said those three little words.
“I..I like you. A lot.”
It was one night when the two of you had gotten a little carried away with the liquor stored underneath your desk. You were snuggled up against him on the couch, but thought nothing of it. Unlike Alaric.
Brows furrowing, it took you a moment to register his words due to the sleepy haze and the alcohol coursing through your system. And when you did, the tension alleviated from your shoulders before you lightly punched him in his. “I like you too. A lot.”
He shook his head, throwing caution and anxiety to the wind before he clarified. “(Y/N), I’m in love with you.”
His eyes were closed so he couldn’t see the way you froze. “I have been for a while. You’re sweet, loving, unbelievably beautiful and an amazing friend. Being co-headmaster with you, seeing you with everyone...I couldn’t help but imagine a life with you by my side officially.”
“You don’t have to say anything,” his eyes fluttered open, which is when he noticed that you had moved away. His heart dropped at that. “I don’t want you to feel pressured...”
“Alaric.” You interjected, fingers toying with the N necklace dangling from your neck; the necklace that was always hidden underneath your shirt, which Alaric hadn’t noticed you still wore until now.
And that combined with the melancholy expression on your face made his stomach churn in fear and realization. He’d made a huge mistake.
Inhaling deeply, you contemplated on what to say. “I like you, Alaric.” His eyebrows raised, hope glistening in his gaze but you quickly shot that down. “But this can’t happen.”
His gaze softened as you stood up from the couch. “It’s not fair to you. I can’t be that woman for you, for Lizzie and Josie.”
“I’m not expecting anything from you...”
“Apparently you are since you told me that you’re in love with me!” Both of you were shocked by your outburst and you quickly apologized, “I’m sorry. I’m overwhelmed.”
A moment of tense silence ensued as you stared at the ground, hyperaware of his gaze on your face. “Klaus was different.” You suddenly spoke, bottom lip quivering as the feelings you had buried resurfaced, “I thought I was going to spend eternity with him.”
“I understand that.” He leaned forward, “I felt the same when Jo died. And it took me a while to move on. I can wait.”
You lifted your gaze to lock it with his. “I wouldn’t ever ask that of you.”
“You’re not asking, I’m just stating. I understand if you need time.” Tears began to gather on your lashes, fingers threading through your hair as you sighed. He was making it more difficult than it already was. You didn’t want to break his heart.
“I still cry in the shower, Al! And when I’m not crying, I’m talking to my dead husband!” Your eyes were wide, voice loud and shaking as you stifled your cries. “I continue to dwell on the past. I dream about him every night. Hell, I even write in a journal about him.”
“After almost three years, I’m still mourning as if I lost him yesterday. And I know for a fact that it will always be like that.”
He stood up at that, his face contorted into a incredulous expression. “But what about the looks you give me? Or the cuddling? You can’t tell me that didn’t mean anything.”
“That’s how I’ve always reacted when a man was interested in me! I thought it was a short term thing or that you wanted to get in bed with me. But just that.”
“It’s not just that. I love you.”
Your heart broke even further at how those words made your stomach churn. “Please. Don’t.” Hatred boiled in your chest as you were upset with him. Upset that he’d ruined a strong bond that took years to build, that you wouldn’t be able to find comfort in your friendship anymore.
“Klaus will always be the man my heart belongs to. He was my one and only. He was my soulmate.”
“You have to stay here and take care of Hope.” He swiped his thumb across your wet skin, “Don’t worry, my love, I’ll be waiting for you on the other side.”
The word echoed in his head, a memory of his conversation with Hope crossing his mind. Soulmate. “(Y/N)...”
“I’m sorry, Alaric.” He internally grimaced at the absence of his nickname and he found himself wondering if the relationship he had with you would ever be the same. Found himself acknowledging that he, in fact, ruined it.
It made him angry as well. He needed you just as much as you needed him.
Your fingers wrapped around the doorknob, “You deserve someone special, Alaric. That someone just can’t be me.”

🌈 How would married life with Jiu be like 🌈
Minji was on tour with the group and that’s when you were sure you wanted to marry her, that you should get married to her
you missed her, it was suffocating!!!!
she felt the same
when she returned from the tour, you had already prepared everything for the proposal
ring? check
Minji back to Korea? check
love overflowing from your hearts? check
and the first dinner you had after she came back, you pulled out the small velvet box
your hands shaking and your heart pounding
you don't remember asking the question but you remember Minji's huge smile and the "yes" coming out of her pretty lips
after that, everything was a party!
and of course, you had a beautiful ceremony
you both opted for a traditional wedding
all family and friends were there
when making the vows, she was saying the first phrases soooo playfully
fake wiping her tears
in less than 10 seconds, she started to cry like a baby, for real!
and you cried too
the wedding party was really fun
but you don't remember almost anyone who was there, there were a lot of people and you were very busy dancing together and having fun with each other
the honeymoon was of mutual choice through much research done by you both, deciding to travel to some countries in Latin America
a universe of cultures, languages, dialects, colors, lives...
getting in touch with all that together with Minji was great for you two
and on the way home, with your cell phones full of photos, gifts for close friends, clothes and other new items, you started to know how would it be like to be married to Jiu...
the decision to live together was automatic and when you both noticed, you were already in a beautiful apartment
painting the room together led to a war with the brushes for a while but everything was resolved
sharing a room with her is good and sharing your moments with her is even better
you always make her cheeks and belly ache from laughing
and you love her laugh so you're always willing to make it happen more and more often
an interesting fact is that: she always steals your clothes
mainly your jackets
usually, when you look for some specific jacket, she says she doesn't know where it is
a few days later...
when you access the vlive, there is Minji with the group
and wearing the missing jacket
you don't complain, it fits perfectly on her
long walks with Cherry!
Minji likes to go hand in hand with you while doing this
these walks are usually at night
so she uses the excuse that it’s cold to snuggle a little more while you walk
matching pajamas
(usually with fruit drawings on it, you don't quite understand why but it must be related to her love for food)
matching clothes
but not just between you two
Cherry ends up being "guinea pig" in this experiment too
you end up being a trio and there are not only Thing 1 and Thing 2, but Thing 3 too!
(if you don’t know what i’m talking about, you should watch “The Cat in the Hat” immediately)
have to find a way to entertain her because she gets bored very easily
game of orange at random times and for no reason
so you’re always doing something together, going to the mall, going to fun fairs, anything to spend energy and that’s fun for both of you
taking some walks with her becomes something common among you, even to relax
when you realize that she is exhausted from the recent comeback, you usually say:
"hey, babe, how about we take the subway and go buy Royce potato chip?"
and although Minji loves these potatoes, she knows it's your way of saying that you want her to get distracted and relax while you walk and talk about nothing too important together
you talk to each other with your eyes
she knows exactly how you are feeling just by looking into them
and vice versa
you always hear her say “I'm hungry”
or "are we going to eat something?"
and almost as often as you hear her say “I love you”
usually steals food from you
if you have snacks in your hands, she will take them without asking
"how rude!", you say
"we are married, what is yours is also mine!"
sometimes, when she’s eating something, she offers the food for you to try it and she puts it in your mouth, as if you were a baby
baking macarons together is a must!
in fact, Minji insists that you bake
you deny it a little to know what her reaction will be
and she practically ends up doing aegyo
and giving you lots of kisses until you finally say: "yes, Minji, let's bake those macaroons now"
she usually says cliché phrases when she is talking about her feelings for you and you find it completely adorable
you have a wonderful relationship with her family so dinners with them are frequent
when she is at an event or doing something with the group, sends you funny pictures of her
you take care of the dreamcatcher too, after all, when you marry their mother, it makes you the other mom of the group
whenever she wakes up early because of something scheduled with the group, Minji lies in bed with you
and even though she is totally ready to go, you end up making out
she likes to slide her hands through your hair
mainly during the kiss
she alternates between holding your face, the back of your neck and tangling her fingers in your hair
kiss you out of nowhere
you're talking and suddenly you get a peck on your lips
loooong night sessions where you drink wine, kiss and talk a lot about anything and everything
just notice that time has passed because the sun is rising again
and this is how a marriage with Minji is like, time doesn't seem to pass by because the world around you loses importance and your eyes are hers and only hers.
sex with your wife Jiu:
you know she wants to have sex for the way she eats you with her eyes
her kisses change when she is turned on
they become a thousand times more sensual
and if she’s sitting on close to you or lying down with you, she sits on you and moves her hips
and she knows very well how to move her hips!
she is addicted to hickeys
it doesn't matter if she makes it or receives it, she just loves it
your neck is practically stamped by Minji's lips
fav position?
as the song says: 34+35!
likes to feel your lips on her
and likes to have her lips on you
loves to suck your fingers
and place them exactly where they must be
after sex, is always affectionate
and funny
you end up stuck with each other
sweaty
and telling each other how was the day
or your plans for the week
Minji loves to be naked with you under the sheets
and have long conversations until dawn
with her face close to yours, breaths mixing and of course...
sensual kisses

Forever & Always
aka a juke wedding au
taglist: @reggieshamster @owenmercers @oldsmobile-hotdogs @iridescentkippen @screamin-amuseum (lmk if you want to be added to my permanent taglist)
Today was the most hectic and chaotic day of Julie’s whole life, at least that’s what she thought when Flynn dragged her out of bed to get ready at 5am this morning. For her wedding, she was actually getting married to Luke and it felt like a dream. She swore everytime she looked at any of her friends and family, they were wiping away tears. Everyone in the entire world knew that Julie and Luke were meant for each other and everyone wanted this day to be perfect.
It was now 3pm and everything was going smoothly, the flowers- dahlias and roses of course, had arrived and the venue and caterers were moving everything along. It was the same place where her parents got married, a beautiful botanical garden just along the coast. Flynn and Alex had been keeping her busy so she wouldn’t get so anxious over everything.
Flynn was doing her makeup, using small bursts of purple around the corners to match the color scheme chosen. Julie had obviously chosen purple, a light lilac, as to not seem so pretentious (which made Luke snort when she told him those exact words). Julie wanted this day to be as much his as it was here, but Luke wasn’t having it. He told her he would be happy marrying her behind the Taco Bell down the street from their apartment. As long as they were together, it didn’t matter.
Alex was now doing her hair, which was still a secret but she had faith in Alex’s abilities. He had fought hard to be one of Julie’s bridesmaids which made her and Willie giggle up a storm. She knew Reggie and Willie were with Luke, but she missed them. Especially Luke, she hasn’t seen since late last night because Flynn wanted them to stay apart for as long as possible before the wedding tonight. They had both agreed to her plan, but now regretted their decisions, since their phones were also hidden.
So as she sat as still as she possibly could for Alex, she drifted into a daydream. Well, a memory at least. It was the day Luke proposed to her, which made her giggle just at the thought of her fiancé- husband to be.
It was a quiet night for them, cuddling up on the couch and watching disney movies. He had mentioned he needed to get something, but Julie refused to move from his warm embrace. Tilting her head up to meet his gaze, she pouted. Luke grinned, pressing a kiss to her forehead which seemed to distract her enough for him to move.
As he stood, something fell out of his pocket, but he continued towards the bedroom. Glancing down, Julie’s breath hitched in her throat and tears pricked her eyes. It was an engagement ring, specifically the one she had pointed to in a jewelry shop months ago. She picked it up and admired it, a simple diamond in the middle with oval cut amethysts on either side of it. Everything was silent for a moment, as she looked back to find Luke standing where she found the ring, mouth agape and a creeping blush on his cheeks.
“This was going to be so much better- I had a plan, it wasn’t extravagant but it was definitely less idiotic than this.”
“Yes.” She knew it wouldn’t click for a few moments but she had to say it before her voice got too shaky, her tears already making her vision fuzzy.
“Julie, I love you. You are the best thing to happen to me and I don’t know what I would do- wait did you say yes?” He was so focused on telling her how much she meant to him and how much he loved her and now he was at a loss for words.
She only nodded, bringing her hands up to cup his face. He responded very quickly, wrapping his arms around her waist. It really wasn’t a question of whether she’d say yes or not, he’s known that answer since their 5 Grammy wins a few years ago. She reminded him everyday that she loved him and wanted to spend forever with him. It was the question that all of their friends had been asking since they first met, who will propose first?
Julie was surprised it took this long, in all honesty, knowing how anxious Luke had always been to show her that he only wanted her. They were still fairly young, Julie having only turned 24 two months ago. But it didn’t matter, as long as they were together..
“Jules? Julie?? Earth to Jules!!” Alex had tapped her on the nose and was now waving a hand in front of her face to get her attention.
“Yes, sorry. I’m here,” she smiled and Alex squeezed her shoulder. Handing her a mirror, she held it up to view the work Alex put into her hair and she gasped. It was a simple style, half up half down but Alex had put intricate and small braids into her bun and butterfly clips adorned her head. She hopped out of the chair and squeezed him tight, making Alex laugh and kiss her temple.
“Alex! It’s perfect!” She couldn’t help the tears in her eyes as she pulled away slightly from him. Which only made Alex sniffle,
“Oh come on, Jules. Now you’re making me cry! I guess I'll be crying later anyway. But i’m glad you like it, I’ve been counting down the days to get you all dolled up for your wedding!” Julie only rolled her eyes and lightly shoved Alex’s shoulder. He feigned hurt until she giggled, “You better not mess up your makeup or Flynn will kill me!!”
Now she was standing in front of her wedding dress, trying not to ruin the beautiful work Flynn had done her makeup earlier. A moment later, Flynn walks in, squeezing her best friend’s shoulders. Both staring up at the beautiful dress, “I can’t believe you’re getting married, Jules. I’m so happy for you!”
“Hey don’t forget you and Carrie are engaged now!! So next we’ll be planning your wedding!!” Both girls started giggling, Julie pulling them in for a hug. Until Flynn realized the time and rushed Julie to get into her dress.
There was no better way to describe the feeling when Julie put it on other than she felt like a princess. The intricate embroidered flowers and mesh that ran down her arms. The lace that decorated every inch of the dress. The sleeves comfortably sitting on the edges of her shoulders, allowing her mother’s dahlia necklace to shine against her delicate, copper skin.
Walking out of the dressing room, she is met with Alex and Flynn of course, at a loss for words. But also Willie who’s smiling so wide it looks like it hurts and Reggie who’s wiping tears cascading down his red cheeks. Julie only smiles bashfully,
“If you all start crying then I will too!!”
“You look stunning, Jules. If we’re all crying I can’t imagine Luke is gonna be able to hold it together!” Reggie snorted. Julie gasped quietly, she wanted to see Luke so badly it hurt. She knew she’d be seeing soon obviously but it didn’t mean she didn’t miss his cute laugh and pretty eyes and honest kindness…
Willie walks forward and wraps her in a tight hug, making her immediately melt into their embrace. Willie always gives good hugs and always seems to know when people need them most. As he pulled away, they cleared their throat,
“I know I’m not one of your bridesmaids,’ he giggled lightly as he looked back at Alex who huffed proudly in response. “But I wanted to give you this- something blue, something Luke. He doesn’t know but me, Reggie and Alex put our heads together.”
Looking down at Willie’s hands, she found a silver necklace with a cerulean blue guitar pendant. She can’t help the wide smile from appearing across her features. Willie takes this moment to clasp it around her neck, watching as it sits nicely above her dahlia.
Before the boys can get in another hug session with Julie, Flynn is rushing them out to get ready for the ceremony. Sitting Julie back down, she spruces up her makeup and helps with her shoes (beat up old vans because comfort over style Flynn, no one will see them anyway!). She notices how glossy Flynn’s eyes are and now it’s her turn to fix her makeup,
“I’m only crying because this is actually happening and I love you.”
“I love you too, Flynn. I couldn’t have done any of this without you and I don’t mean just the wedding plans,” Julie presses her forehead to Flynn’s, making them both smile. Flynn squeezes her hands before turning to head out into the venue, Julie’s father taking her place.
Ray can only stand and admire his daughter’s radiance and happiness. He presses a kiss to her forehead and locks their arms together, walking to the edge of the actual venue. No one can see her yet, but everyone is sitting and chatting amongst themselves. She sees Kayla and Nick laughing together, Carrie and Bobby making sure no one can see them cry while their father, Trevor, sniffles stoically.
Ray tugs on his daughter’s arm lightly and she glances back at him. They smile and laugh, “I’m so proud of you, mija. You deserve only happiness and I can see that everytime you look at each other. I only wish your mother was here to see this.”
“Thank you, papí. I couldn’t have done it without you, I love you. I know mom’s watching, I can feel it,” Julie glances up at the sky and smiles. Ray only watched and thanked the heavens for giving him such a wonderful daughter. Handing her the bouquet of lavender and wisteria, he nudges her again, “Ready, mija?”
He walks her out and she knows she can hear music playing because it’s a song that Luke wrote for her. But it’s like everything else disappeared and all she can focus on is Luke. Standing at the end of the aisle, fiddling with his hands, mouth curved into a wide smile. He tugs at the sleeves of his suit jacket, she giggles lightly- proud that he’s even wearing sleeves. His cheeks are flushed and dusted pink, gray eyes big and shiny as they watch her walk closer with pure adoration.
As she reaches him, Ray lets her go and smiles at the both of them. Julie hands her bouquet over to Flynn standing behind her, finally facing the love of her life. They both aren’t really paying attention to what’s being said, just focused on each other. Until it was time for their vows. Luke went first:
I’ll tell you now, I could spend a lifetime telling you how much you mean to me, Jules. I have loved you since the first time I saw when I was 16 in that boring math class. I found myself giddy and excited to get to school just to see you and hear your laughter. You’ve brought out the best in me and my songwriting. When I’m with you, I know I can do anything. I never believed in soulmates until I found you and it felt like coming home. Your warmth and kindness fuels me with the strength to live my dreams- our dreams. Being in a band with you has truly been the best experience of my life and I cannot wait to see what the future holds. I love you more than words could ever say.
Willie hands Luke a ring and he gently places it on her ring finger, sniffling and laughing. They’re both crying by this point, not worried about anything else going on. Julie quickly wipes some of her fallen tears away as she locks eyes with Luke again. Fiddling with the new wedding band around her finger she begins her vows:
When I first met you, I never thought I would play music again. Not after losing my mom, but you gave me a new passion- a new spark for music and I cannot thank you enough. Playing music together became a love language and it only made me realize how deep in love I was with you. You are my rock, you’re ambition and relentless passion in everything you do made me a better person. We compliment each other, two flames bound to one another. Loving you is like watching your favorite movie or reading your favorite book, it’s exhilarating. I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you when you let me play ‘Bright’ a song you had written and shown to no one else. You trusted me with something so close to your heart and I knew then that I wanted to memorize all of you. You are my favorite song and you are my person, I love you.
Now it’s Alex’s turn to hand over the ring, Julie slipping it onto Luke’s calluses finger. Now she’s sure there isn’t a dry eye in the room, not after they’d just shared snippets of the true love they had for each other. So when it was time to ‘kiss the bride,’ Julie didn’t hesitate. Wrapping her arms around Luke’s neck and pulling him down to brush their lips together and finally sealing them in a smile.
Pulling away, still smiling, they lock their fingers together and walk back down the aisle as husband and wife. Truly a power couple for the ages. And before rejoining their friends and family for the reception, Luke steals another kiss and another and another. Cupping her cheeks and bringing her as close to him as he possibly can. She snakes her hands back around his neck, digging her fingers lightly through his hair, earning her a small noise in response.
Pulling away, breathless this time and leaning their foreheads together. She presses a kiss to his nose, which he scrunches up when she moves away.
“I love you, Mrs Patterson,” Luke breathes out. Julie only smirks and playfully rolls her eyes.
“And I love you, Mr Molina,” she replies, trying to hide her love stricken smile. Luke only quirks an eyebrow,
“I kinda like the sound of that.”
She smacks his arm lightly to which he only shakes his head and pulls her in for another kiss. Yeah she could get used to this forever.

A Busy Holiday
This was supposed to follow a prompt, but per usual, I deviated lol. Characters: Chris McKay x Black Female Reader / Also: parents, grandparents, siblings, and best friends. (Note: I gave you the last name “Davis”) Content: Fluff; a little angst?; worry; overthinking; couple issues. Word Count: 1,659
McKay had been acting strange all week. He’d been avoiding you—responding to texts with single phrases or short sentences; not answering phone calls at all. The two of you were supposed to hang out during the holidays, and you’d spend Christmas Eve with your family, and Christmas Day with his. You wanted to go over your plans, but he just did not seem invested. Sure, he worked at a real estate agency, but surely people weren’t buying houses during the holidays? Or, maybe you were just an idiot who knew nothing about real estate...
Sigh...your parents always warned you about your tendency to jump to conclusions about everything, so you kept your cool. But now, it was two days before Christmas Eve, and you needed to know what was up. So, you called him, and finally, he answered.
“Hey, baby…” he said with a tired voice. “McKay? What the fuck is up?!” “I’m sorry, baby. I’ve been super busy.” “Me too, McKay, but I still make time to call. We’re supposed to be spending Christmas break together. Is that still happening, or no?” “Yes, it’s still happening. We agreed to do what we did last year, right? Christmas Eve with your people, then Christmas Day with mine, then just you and me at the Ramada, right?” “Yeah, but—” “I booked the Ramada in October, remember?” he pressed. You got agitated. “Yes, but McKay, just because we’re an hour away from each other it doesn’t mean we can’t still communicate. These short conversations have me thinking that you’re up to something.” “Up to something like…working? Spending time with my family and friends? Registering for next semester? Not everybody gets to just chill on their breaks...” He had a point with that last statement, but you chose to bypass it. “Am I not family or friends, McKay?” You heard him sigh. “Look, baby. I’ve got to go. I’ll see you Christmas Eve. Early in the morning. Okay?” You rolled your eyes. “Sure. Okay.”
Christmas Eve
McKay texted you the night before, saying that he would be over at ten. Of course, you sent him a dry “K.” in response. But who were you fooling? You got up the next morning, spent an eternity in the shower, slathering soap and body scrub all over your skin and shaving non-existent hair from your legs—just in case. You rubbed coconut oil into your skin, sprayed your Versace crystal on your neck, applied a little face makeup, and slid on some popping red lipstick. Maybe you were tripping…but you were going to make sure McKay got a GOOD look at what he’d been missing out on the last three weeks.
The doorbell rang at exactly 10:00AM and your dad answered it. “What’s up, Chris?” your dad’s voice boomed throughout the house. “How you doin’, Mr. Davis?” McKay said. You heard the slapping of skin in a dap. Then, the front door closed. You gave yourself another look in the mirror—lifting your boobs in your red T-shirt, rubbing your hands along your thighs, and fluffing out your white cardigan. “I’m doin’, I’m doin’,” your father responded. “She’s in her room.” You yanked your phone off your dresser and jumped onto the bed. Then, you leaned over on your side and thumbed through the phone, pretending to be unmoved by McKay’s impending presence. He walked in with fresh braids, wearing his usual blue hoodie, some jeans, and his blue and white Jordan 11s. In his hands were a bouquet of red roses. “May I come in?” he asked jokingly. You looked up from your phone with an unimpressed look. “Sure.” He shook his head, chuckled to himself, and put the roses on your dresser. Then, he leaned over the bed and gave you a kiss on the lips. You almost fainted at the smell of cologne. “You tryna act like you ain’t happy to see me?” he asked, sitting beside you. You put down your phone and lifted your body to rest against your pillows. “I usually don’t get excited about seeing strangers,” you responded. He rolled his eyes and lean back. “Maaan, come on. Cut that shit out!” he laughed. You buried your face into your knees and laughed, but he wiggled his finger under your chin and tilted your head up. Then, he kissed your lips again. “I’m sorry, baby. But I promise you, things have just really been busy,” he said. He lowered his head and rubbed your sheets. “And…I guess I have to be honest with you.” “Please do.” “I’ve had some shit going on mentally,” he admitted. Your heart sank. You really could be an asshole. You took his hand and kissed it. “I’m sorry, baby…” “No, don’t be sorry. Nothing bad, for the most part. I’ve just really been in my head about some things...” “But you know you can talk to me about it, right?” you asked. He stared into your eyes and smiled. “Yeah, I know.” He leaned forward to kiss you again, but just as his lips were inches away from yours… “Hey, McKay!” your mother’s voice screeched. You both looked up to see her in the doorway with an ugly Christmas sweater and reindeer ears on. You scoffed and buried your face in your knees again. “Mama, what are you wearing?” “Hey, Mrs. Davis!” “Hey, McKay baby. And what do you mean what am I wearing? It’s Christmas Eve!”
You and McKay started the day with some window shopping. You’d both completed your shopping, but it wouldn’t hurt to see what was left on the shelves. Next, you went on a double date with your best friend, Mariah, and her boyfriend, Johari—first some lunch at Panera Bread, then the movies. After that, you hung out at Johari’s apartment, playing board games. McKay insisted on playing Monopoly, the longest damned game in the world; then the two of you had to dash home for dinner with your family. You came home to smooth Christmas jazz playing from the radio, dim lights and candles—very different from the usual festive setup, where The Temptations would be blasting and every single light in the house would be on—with the blinds and curtains opened, too--much to your chagrin. Both sets of your grandparents were in the living room, and you gave all four of them big hugs, as did McKay. “Babe, I’m going to go change out of this hoodie really quick,” McKay said. “Alright.” McKay returned to the living room in a crisp white Polo, but you noticed he’d changed into Khakis and dress shoes, too—the Polo shirt tucked in like he was going on a job interview. You raised an eyebrow, but figured he just wanted to be respectful. You hung out in the living room with your grandparents, and when the table was set, everyone made their way to the kitchen. Plates were already made with Dad’s famous ribeye steaks, mom’s crab cakes, and green beans. A tray of potatoes—sat in the center of the table with a bowl of sour cream beside it, a stick of butter, and the salt and pepper shakers. “McKay, would you like to say grace?” your dad suggested. Your eyebrows furrowed, because since when? “Um, sure Mr. Davis,” McKay agreed. Everyone bowed their heads. “Dear God, thank you for this day, and thank you for this dinner prepared by family…” Suddenly, the back door opened. You opened one eye to see McKay’s parents and brothers crept into the kitchen. You swung your head up and looked around at everyone and their still-bowed heads. “God, I especially thank you for allowing the Davis family to welcome me with opened arms. And today…” McKay removed his hand from yours, and suddenly, everyone’s head lifted. McKay stepped back and started digging in his pockets. Your hands flew to your mouth. “…I hope you’ll allow me to talk out of their home, with their daughter as my fiancée,” he said, pulling out a tiny box and falling to one knee. You stood frozen with your hands to your mouth and eyes wide. Then, tears started to stream down your face. “I can’t stand you McKay,” you blubbered. “I know,” he laughed. “Y/N Davis, will you marry me?” he opened the box and revealed gold band with a sparkling sapphire jewel in the middle—the exact kind of ring you told him you’d like when you were just two project partners for your Cultural Studies course—discussing marriages and weddings around the world. You shook your head in disbelief and wept. “Of course, I will, McKay. You know I will!” McKay took the ring out of the box and slid it on your finger, and your family—current and future—clapped and cheered. McKay rose to his feet, pulled you in his arms and kissed you on the lips. You rested your chin over his shoulders and spotted Mariah and Johari in the doorway. You let out a scream and a hearty laugh. “I hate y’all!” you shouted. They laughed and walked over to you and surrounded you both in hugs. “Is that why you had me in there playing some damned Monopoly?!” Everyone burst into laughter, and hugs and kisses went around.
During dinner, McKay informed you that he didn’t book the Ramada—but a weekend at a beach house through Noirbnb. You packed some lounging clothes, beach wear, and other necessities, hopped in the car with McKay, and the two of you made your way there. Of course, he teased you about your bratty attitude—and promised some punishment for it later—but the both of you promised to be better at communicating and understanding each other. You arrived at the beach house, owned by a lovely middle-aged couple, and made yourself comfortable. You were too full and tired to do what you both really wanted to do, so instead, the two of you wrapped yourselves in a blanket and sat on the beach, talking beneath the crescent moon, and before an endless ocean.

PAIRING(s): Alex Mercer x Willie, Flynn x Carrie Wilson, Julie Molina x Luke Patterson, past!Alex Mercer x Luke Patterson
WARNING(s): nothing haha just some fluff and we stan bobby in this house.. oh and some language
WORDS: 3.85k
SUMMARY: With his boyfriend marrying Carrie Wilson (well, in his defence, that’s his grandmother’s ‘dying wish’), Willie fancies himself to be the main character of a Shakespearean tragedy. Based on Speak Now by Taylor Swift.
KEEP READING BELOW OR READ ON AO3
Willie exhales, watching his breath crystallize into tiny ice particles. He extends a hand to catch them, but that action causes the little cloud to dissipate.
He rolls his eyes. Who has their wedding in Canada, in winter? Plus, not just on any day, but on Valentine’s Day.
He fancies that he might as well be the main character of a Shakespearean tragedy. Watching your boyfriend get married is painful enough, but to a girl? That shit makes you feel as if your heart has a screw lodged in it. He feels as if he has the weight of the world on his shoulders.
Willie likes to say that he hates Alex (i.e., the said boyfriend, the love, the light, the star of his life) – but that sentence leaves behind a bitter taste in his mouth, like he’s just had that weird cough syrup that his mother buys.
Alex’s friends can definitely see through his act, like, right now.
“Willie, relax! Everything’s gonna be alright!” Julie Molina, Alex’s bandmate, ‘unbiological sister’, and ‘best gossip partner’ exclaims. She is crouching beside him.
“Julie, I’m not the type of guy to crash a wedding and sabotage it, especially one hosted by those…” His hand moves in circular motions, pointing to the direction of the church, where Alex’s parents are probably seated.
Luke Patterson, Julie’s boyfriend and Alex’s ex-boyfriend, and current best friend and bandmate pipes in. “Homophobic, racist mingers?”
Willie grins. “Don’t know what that means but sounds accurate!”
“You know, we are saving Alex’s life, right? Literally?” Bobby Wilson chimes in, Alex’s other best friend from his position behind them. They are currently hiding behind a table laden with sweets of all kinds, and it makes Reggie, the last of Alex’s best friend-cum-bandmates’ mouth water.
“I still can’t believe that his parents are forcing him to marry a girl!” Julie exclaims, ponytail bobbing as she speaks. Luke adds, “Not just any girl, but Carrie fucking Wilson.”
“My fucking cousin!” Bobby says, looking behind to check if anyone’s there. There is, but they’re all either part of the caterer’s group, or the waiters – they are currently outside a church, where the reception will be held, post wedding. The attendees, the families, everyone – are inside the church, for the wedding.
“Hey, is Grandma Ruth really that sick?” Reggie finally asks, his eyes diverting from the sweets. Luke smiles sweetly at him. “I’m glad you finally decided to join us, Reginald.”
Reggie fails to catch the sarcasm in his tone, and he smiles brightly. Luke rolls his eyes, but a faint smile teases the corners of his lips. “Yeah, she really has stage four cancer.”
Julie says, “Poor Ruth.”
Luke huffs, “I don’t care that she’s dying – she shouldn’t fucking blackmail her grandson like that! Alex, honey, I’m dying. My dying wish, you ask? Marry someone. No, not your boyfriend of four years! Marry a girl, dummy. Homosexuality is a sin!”
Bobby adds, “Not just any girl, but your best friend’s cousin! Whose probably into Flynn, but, yeah, whatever.”
Julie smiles brightly at the mention of her best friend. “Oh, she definitely is.”
Reggie’s brows quirk. “I thought she was still into Nick.”
Bobby shakes his head. “They broke up last summer.”
Willie clears his throat, finally gaining some confidence. “He shouldn’t be marrying the wrong girl.” He exhales, and adds, as an afterthought, “Or any girl.”
“You two should be walking down the aisle, Willie.” Julie says, resting a hand on his shoulder. He nods, grateful for her support.
He remembers this morning, when he was at the grocery store, buying as many buckets of chocolate ice cream as he could fit in his arms. Suddenly, he had felt a warm hand wrap around the back of his throat, and he let out a yelp, dropping all the buckets.
He remembers thinking that the universe was against him. First, it’s the day of his boyfriend’s wedding, and along with that, someone’s here to kill him. Well, he thought, it’s better to die than –
“Willie!” A familiar voice exclaimed, and of course, it’s Julie – he realized that the hand that he thought was here to murder him, belonged to her. She was dressed in a long, pink, A-Line dress, that complimented her skin tone perfectly and – suddenly, Willie understood that it was a bridesmaid’s dress. Yep, she’s Carrie’s bridesmaid, along with Flynn.
Willie wondered if she was here to rub salt on his wound.
“What do you want?” He had mumbled, averting his gaze from her dress. Sure, it’s a pretty dress, but it reminds him of Alex, because he has a hoodie that he adores in the same colour. (It’s in Willie’s closet now, and he makes a mental note to burn it.)
“We have a plan.” She said, conspiratorially.
Willie sighed, leaning down to pick up the fallen containers of ice cream. “I’m not in the mood, Jules.”
She grinned, evilly. Or as evilly as you could while having an angelic face.
Sure, it took her a while to convince him to crash his boyfriend’s wedding, but on the way here, he felt as if it was worth it. Julie helped sneak him in, since he doesn’t have an invite – and he found the rest of Alex’s friends – Luke, Reggie, and Bobby waiting for him.
Now, as Carrie’s family emerges from the church doors, he doesn’t feel that way anymore.
“God, I think I’m gonna throw up just by looking at them.” Luke murmurs, while Julie slaps his shoulder. “Don’t say that, they look very… colourful.”
Bobby snorts.
Carrie’s family includes her parents, two of her cousin sisters and an aunt – and they are all dressed in pastel yellow. To be really honest, that colour looks like vomit. They stand in a circle in front of the church doors, and Willie notices her aunt rolling her eyes at the waiters. He sighs. This is the same aunt who told Carrie that ‘oh, honey, it’s just a phase’, when she came out as bisexual.
“Guys, guys, guys!”
Willie sees his cousin, Flynn, running in their direction, and stopping at their table. She huffs, catching her breath and he notices that she’s wearing the same dress that Julie is.
“Carrie is losing her shit, dude.” She says, once she’s breathing normally again. “Why?” Julie asks, concerned.
“Probably because she doesn’t wanna marry Alex? I don’t know, but she yelled at me for eating!” She exclaims, an annoyed expression taking over her face.
Willie and Bobby exchange a look – they all know that Carrie can get a little intense sometimes – she doesn’t mean harm, but on a day like this, you can’t really hold it against her.
“Where is she?” Julie asks, alarmed.
“She’s in the back. Her mom misplaced her veil, and its total chaos out there. Also, her gown looks like a fucking pastry.”
Everyone’s eyes widen, and Flynn sighs, looking away. “I hate everything.”
Willie knows that she’s feeling just the way he is.
Julie stands up. “Come on, let’s help her. And boys?” She points a finger in their direction. “Stick to the fucking plan.”
Everyone nods rapidly, and Reggie whispers, “Yes, mam.”
She kisses Luke, whispering something in his ear, and squeezes Willie’s shoulder, giving him a sympathetic look, before running off in the opposite direction with Flynn.
Watching Julie and Luke, Willie is suddenly overpowered by a memory, a memory that was gathering dust in his brain. He remembers a cold, dark winter morning in their – his and Alex’s – apartment. It was last year, and their first morning in that apartment, in their home. They were nineteen and couldn’t get enough of each other – even after three years of being together. Somehow, somewhere they felt as if an invisible string was pulling them closer and closer, until they merged into one.
He remembers Alex combing his fingers through Willie’s hair, and whispering, “Is it crazy if I say that this is everything that I’ve ever wanted in life?”
He had smiled, eyes filled to the brim with euphoria. “No, then that would mean that I’m crazy.”
“We’re both crazy.”
“Maybe.” He had pulled him closer, loving the way Alex buried his face in the crook of his neck.
“Willie?” Alex softly asked, drawing patterns on his bare skin.
“Hmm?”
“I want to wake up next to you every single day. Like, I don’t ever wanna be without you,”
“Me, too.” He had said, then adding, “I don’t see myself marrying if not you.”
He could feel his boyfriend’s grin. “Not gonna lie, I’ve thought about it. A little.”
“A little?”
“Okay, I’ve planned it all out.” They both laughed, and Willie felt as if he was flying.
Alex continued, “I imagine us getting married on a beautiful summer day – on the beach. Where we met all those years ago. Remember?”
Willie smiled. “How could I forget? I will love Flynn forever for bringing me to Julie’s sweet sixteen – I never thought that I’d meet my soulmate that day.”
“Yeah. I imagine Luke to be my best man, and Flynn to be yours. Julie and Carrie would be our groomsmaids, yep, I invented that – and Reggie and Bobby could be the other best men. It’s a little messy, because I love them all so much and I can’t choose – but yeah.”
“Funny that your ex-boyfriend will be your best man at our wedding.”
“Shut up, Willie.”
“Carlos could be the ring bearer.”
“I think he’s a little too old for that.”
“Well, you have a point. But he’s gonna be pissed if he doesn’t get a title like his sister does.”
“All right, he’ll be the ring bearer.”
“We could have a skateboard shaped cake.”
“We will… think about it.”
“And we won’t need a band!”
“I’m not playing at my own wedding!”
“Well, Bobby could take your place. I’m sure he won’t mind taking a day off his solo touring.”
“Yeah, that sounds nice.”
As they went over every possibility, every dream, the world melted away and all Willie could see were the oceans in Alex’s eyes.
Luke’s voice dissipates the haze of nostalgia around Willie’s brain. “Yep, Carrie’s family went inside.”
Bobby nods. “Okay, Willie, you stay with Reggie and Luke – I’ll go inside first and distract everyone, and y’all will come at my signal.” With that, he runs towards the church.
“Uh… what is his signal…” Willie trails off. Luke and Reggie exchange a panicked look, as Reggie says, “I’m sure we’ll figure it out! Besides – oh my god, are those flamingos?”
Willie and Luke’s eyes dart to the church door, where a bunch of flamingos – Carrie’s favorite bird, apparently – are on the loose and the waiters and the staff are running around trying to catch them.
“Boys, I think that’s our signal.” Luke says, grabbing their hands and dragging them towards the back of the church, where the girls had previously disappeared into.
Luke sneezes, and Willie absentmindedly whispers a ‘bless you.’ He shifts, saying, “There’s so much dirt here! It’s like nobody cares about my allergies!”
“I’m sure nobody in Canada will ever care about your allergies, Patterson.” Flynn hisses.
The trio are currently hiding behind a curtain, the lilac shades sickening them. “Well, you wouldn’t be in this position if Alex’s lovely bride-to-be didn’t uninvite me!” Willie exclaims, looking around to make sure nobody is nearby.
“I’m sure she has a very good reason!” Flynn says, and Luke rolls his eyes, saying, “You’re saying that as if you don’t know Carrie. She’s hyper fixating on this wedding to distract herself from the fact that her parents will never accept her for who she is, from her fear about the fact that she’ll never get someone who sees and loves her for who she is and right now, she believes that this wedding would gain her parents’ favour, that somehow they’d be okay with her being bisexual if she’s married a man, a gay man at that, too – and now she’s doing everything in her power to make sure nothing gets fucked up.”
Willie and Flynn sharply look at Luke.
“Dude, that was deep.” He whispers. Flynn dabs the corner of her right eye. “You should be a therapist, bro.”
“I know, bro.” He grins.
Willie can’t stop a smile from breaking out on his face. He turns back to the scene in front of him, and his heart seizes because there’s Alex, dressed in a perfect tuxedo, with his hair perfectly done, with a perfect smile on his face, and Willie realizes that that is not the man he loves.
The man standing in front of him looks too pristine, too immaculate. It’s almost as if he is being strung up by invisible puppet strings, but his face doesn’t give away any of that – it’s absolutely blank, and Willie would have thought that the man in the front is not real if he hadn’t seen his eyes. His eyes, which houses cyclones, cyclones being fed by the apprehension, the fear, the anger, the sadness that he must be feeling inside. His eyes, that Willie loves to see first thing in the morning, showing off the parts of his soul that he is desperately trying to shield.
Willie wonders if he’ll see him standing behind the curtains. He probably won’t. Willie’s at the back of the room, and he’s at the front, waiting, waiting, waiting. For a moment, Willie wonders if Carrie is going to show up at all – because the wedding was supposed to start half an hour ago, and it doesn’t make sense why a person who has never been late in her entire life, would be late on her wedding day.
He doesn’t have to wonder long, though. The organ starts to play ‘Here Comes the Bride’, and honestly it sounds more like a death march. Willie is reminded, yet again, of another reason why this is not what Alex wants – he wants to play ‘Lover’ by Taylor Swift at his wedding.
Willie takes in a sharp breath when Carrie enters. She looks like a pageant queen – wearing a beautiful, white, classic dress. In one hand, she holds her dad’s arm, and in the other, there is a bouquet of daisies.
Flynn whispers. “I have to go. Boys, do not mess this up. Or I swear I’ll kill you.”
As the duo watch her run to the front of the room, Willie whispers, “Does she know about Carrie’s big, fat crush?”
Luke snorts. “You think so? Come on, let’s sit. They won’t be able to see us here.”
As they crouch down and make their way to the benches, Willie casts one last look at Alex, and he knows, he knows that Alex wishes it was Willie walking down the aisle instead.
“Speak now, or forever hold your peace.” The preacher says, and Willie’s heart erupts into a frenzy. As the room goes completely silent, Luke whispers, “That’s your cue, Willie.”
Ignoring his anxiety, he stands up with his hands shaking, and his brain telling him to just fucking run out the doors.
Alex’s eyes widen, relief flooding his features, and for a moment, he looks like the real Alex again. Willie catches Julie and Flynn’s eyes, who are standing beside Carrie, and they nod at him, enthusiastically. But the bride, Carrie – she looks absolutely horrified. And so does all the other people in this room, including Alex’s parents, his grandma Ruth, and Carrie’s parents, too.
From Alex’s right side, Reggie and Bobby give him encouraging looks, and finally, he averts his eyes back to the man he loves.
But he can’t say anything. He feels as if he’s frozen in time, and his mind completely blanks out. For a moment he wonders if this is his rock bottom.
But Luke comes to the rescue, thrusting a guitar in his hands, and breaking him out of his trance. “I remember you told me that you can always sing, even if the world was ending. So, I brought this along, as backup.”
It’s true. Music is a part of his soul, much like it is Alex’s. Music is what connected them in the first place, and music is what still keeps them connected now.
He positions the guitar, and notices that it’s Luke’s acoustic guitar. He strums it, and finally, his mind comes back to himself. He keeps his eyes trained on that of Alex, and he watches the storm of emotions in his irises.
“I am not the kind of guy, who should be rudely barging in on a white veiled occasion…” He sings, loving how Taylor Swift has written a song for every occasion.
“But you are not the kind of boy, who should be marrying the wrong girl!” He sings and hears loud gasps around the room – he knows that people expected him to be in love with Carrie or something.
“Or any girl!” Reggie adds, and Alex grins, and that gives him the motivation to continue.
“So, don't say yes, run away now. I'll meet you when you're out of the church at the back door… Don't wait or say a single vow – You need to hear me out, and they said speak now!”
He drags the ‘now’ for as long as he can, because he knows that the silence that will follow will be excruciating. And it is. Alex just stares at him, an unreadable expression on his face.
Willie finally looks at Carrie, and when their eyes meet, she gives him an odd look. He half expected her to kill him, but the way she looks at him, it’s almost as if she’s relieved.
Alex clears his throat, the sound piercing through the silence of the room. Whispers arise, and Willie exchanges a look with Luke, who asks him, “You want me to dig you a hole to die?”
Before he can nod, Alex says, “Uh…” He fiddles with his hands, before finally saying, “Fuck it”, and untying his tie. His mother gasps, and his father stands up, but he raises a hand.
He locks eyes with Willie, and his world spins on its axis.
“You are not the kind of guy to be rudely barging in on a white veiled occasion…But I am not the kind of boy… who should be marrying the wrong girl… or any girl!” Alex sings in that raspy voice of his, and Willie feels his heart soar. He can’t help the grin from escaping on his face, and he knows that his eyes are what Julie calls, ‘heart eyes.’ Luke grabs the guitar from Willie’s hand and starts playing along.
“And you'll say let's run away now, and I'll meet you when I'm out of my tux at the back door,”
Alex walks down the aisle, but suddenly remembers something, or rather, someone. He turns around, locking eyes with Carrie, and Willie can’t see what he’s saying, but Carrie smiles a big, soft one – one probably no one has ever seen on her face, and he sees her mouth ‘go.’
“Baby, I didn't say my vows, so glad you were around; when they said speak now!”
He finishes, and stands in front of Willie, and Willie knows that the both of them can feel the air electrifying between them.
He turns, facing his grandmother. “Grandma, I’m sorry, but you’re 93, and I’m 20. I’m not going to give up my life for you to live. I love you, though. Mom, Dad, I’m truly sad that I’m not what you wanted. But I’m not gonna apologize for being myself, nor am I gonna apologize for loving who I want to. This is my life, and maybe it’s time that I start acting like it. I can’t keep wasting my life to please you. You – you should love me for who I am, that’s what good parents do.” Alex’s voice cracks, and Willie intertwines their fingers. Alex squeezes his hand.
Carrie’s mom stands up, shaking her head. “No, no, no… you do not get to ruin my daughter’s wedding –”
Alex’s father stands beside her, his face matching the shade of Carrie’s red lipstick. “I will not accept this –”
“Will?” Alex whispers, his eyes trained on his father.
“Yeah?”
“Run.”
With that, Alex tightens his hold on Willie’s hand, and the both of them run down the aisle, and outside. Willie can hear an uproar behind him, but it fades to background noise behind the thump of his heart.
“That was so fucking romantic!” Alex exclaims, as they come to a stop before Willie’s car.
“I just…”
“Wait – I’m sorry, Willie. I shouldn’t have put you through that. I should’ve fought more; I should’ve run away or something. That was not okay. I’m a twenty-year-old adult, and I should – I should – learn to be it, and not hurt any – anyone –”
“Hey, hey, hey…” Willie says, stepping closer to Alex. “It’s alright. They’re your parents. It’s not your fault that you want their approval. But I just want you to know that I love you, all of you, for who you are. And all of us do – Luke, Julie, Bobby, Reggie, Flynn, and even Carrie. We all love you, for who you are, and we’re always gonna be by your side.”
He smiles, cupping Willie’s face. “Thank you. Thank you so much. I – I love you so fucking much.” He kisses Willie, and the latter feels like he is floating amongst the stars.
“That – everything inside – from this tux to the decorations was horrible. I’m really glad that you… you know, stopped it.” Alex says, rubbing his thumb around Willie’s cheek.
He shrugs. “Well, it was your friends’ idea.”
“Of course it was.”
“Guys! Guys, guys, guys!”
Willie and Alex break out of their embrace at Carrie’s voice, who is currently running towards them, her dress bunched in her hands. Flynn is following her, holding her veil in her arms. Julie, Luke, Bobby, and Reggie are behind them, and they all have a look of panic plastered on their faces.
Flynn yells. “Carrie might’ve told your and her parents to fuck off, and your grandma to just die already, and so there’s a fair chance that we’re all gonna get killed, now that everyone knows that we’re all behind this.”
“Also, I threw red wine at our aunt’s dress, Carrie!” Bobby yells.
“I might have told your parents that they’re failures, and Julie and I are your real parents, Alex!” Luke yells.
“Also, Flynn and I are getting married!” Carrie yells.
Alex’s eyes widen, and he looks at Willie. “I think we all need to run.”
Willie nods, and he looks around. Maybe they will get killed (probably not), and maybe everything is a little crazy right now – but what he knows is that all of them are a family, and that he’d do anything for them. He also knows that Alex is worth everything, and that someday, they will get married, just the way they want, with the people that love them just the way they are.
Plus, is it weird to say that he kind of feels like Taylor Swift right now?

Here I am again, on the floor, begging him to stop. There he is again, laughing at my pleas and forcing himself inside of me. Almost every night he climbs into my bed, then in the morning, he pretends everything is normal. When anyone is around, he acts charming. He is able to trick everyone into thinking everything is fine. Well, it's not.
My phone buzzed to life at the side of me. The alarm was going off but I had been up for hours, staring at the flecks of dust dancing around the air. The sunlight streamed in through my thin, white drapes. It was beautiful out. It was the middle of May and bound to be hot out in Arizona. I could feel the warmth on my skin already. I needed to shower and get all this sticky sweat off my skin. It wasn't even mine. I felt disgusting. His touch lingered everywhere on me. The bruises he gave me stained my skin more than the self inflicted cuts.
'Morning Ms. y/l/n. Last night was lovely. See you at lunch?'. It was a text from Mr Reid. He was my psychology professor. Older than me, at thirty, he had long dark hair and deep brown eyes. His hair curled slightly at the end. He was tall and slim. Smart and nerdy, having two degrees and a doctorate, he left his job at the FBI for something less mentally draining. He had worked there since he was twenty-two. I was twenty-one making our age gap quite small. Look at me, trying to convince myself that it even mattered. He was a lovely guy. Friendly, and handsome. He wouldn't fall in love with a student, and if he did, that student would never be me. He was too smart for that.
"Morning Dr. Reid. Thank-you for taking me. It was a fun eve! Yes, see you at lunch. We can have a chat about the stuff we saw yesterday =)". I read the message over and over again before hitting send. I was nervous as I usually always say stupid things. My low self esteem affected me very much. I was twenty-one, already with one degree and going back to do another. I was still living at Sharon's and I haven't had a boyfriend. He texted me back instantly.
"Can't wait! Need a lift to school? =)" I smiled down at my battered iPhone 6. I couldn't afford a brand new phone. I was lucky in that I only had to work a few hours a week at the local book store and that it was something I enjoyed doing. Sharon was good to me. She helped me pay for and make my way through college. I don't know what or where I would be without her. On the other hand, she brought the human spawn of the devil into my life.
"No thnx, Luna is picking me up =)" I sent but then instantly regretted it. I love my best friend but I would have preferred a ride with Dr. Reid. Our conversations were always interesting and insightful. We could talk about a wide range of subjects for hours and it would only feel like minutes passed.
"Ok, see u soon Y/N"
I smiled, almost forgetting my problems before catching glimpse of myself in the mirror. My fragile, battered body stared back. I sighed. He could never find a girl like me attractive. Not that it mattered anyway. Silly little girl crush.
After debating whether it was best to just find the nearest bridge in town and throw my self off or get ready for school (I am very mentally unwell), I decided on the latter. Luna had already texted me to inform me that she was about to set off. Knowing Luna, which I have had the pleasure of knowing for fifteen years (no sarcasm in there), ten minutes would be ten years.
I staggered down the dreaded stairs, almost losing my footing a few times, feeling light headed. I entered the brightly lit kitchen. It was so bright that I could feel an aching behind my eyes. The decor was simplistic, all white with gold features. Classic business mom who is never home asthetic going on.
Sharon sat at the island, face absorbed in her laptop. She was in her late forties with short, mousey hair. I believe she would be referred to as a 'Karen'. She looked nothing like Dom. She was short, like me, and fairly slim. He was tall and muscular with broad shoulders. Quarterback star player with the strength to show for it. He could snap us both in half. Dominic is Sharon's only child. Yes, that is correct. She is not my mum. I lost her.
Sharon looked up at me, flashing me a warm smile, still bashing the keys to her MacBook. She took a sip of her black coffee, nibbling on some cold toast. "You look like shit" she stated; matter of factly, her face blank. '"Thanks?'" I answered with a raised eyebrow. I walked over to the coffee machine and put in a pod, sticking my travel cup underneath. 77Kcals of goodness. All the fuel I will need this morning. "Sweetheart, don't act like that. You know I'm just saying. You need to sleep more" '"I know" I sighed. It was true... "But that makes two of us" I retorted cheekily with a grin. "Oh sweetheart, don't I know it" she raised her cup as if toasting the comment before gulping the last bit of coffee.
Sharon was my guardian, though not anymore as I was an adult and of drinking age. She still cared for me though as if I were her own. My mom died when I was seven and my dad had a breakdown. He couldn't cope. One day I came home from school and he was gone. He didn't say a word to anyone. He packed up his stuff and left me. I hated him for a while. The anger within me burned to my core. After a while I felt sympathy. He didn't get the help that he needed. If he did then we both wouldn't be in this mess. We'd be happy - together. I doubt he would know how to contact me now.
Aunt Sharon took me in. She wasn't really my aunt, she was my mom's best friend. She was the only connection to my mother that I had left besides her wedding ring. She loved her dearly and I believe she loves me dearly too. It's not her fault she can't protect me. She works herself to death trying to help me live my dreams. Dom wasn't the child that she had always wanted. He is doing nothing with his life. That is something I will alway's respect of her, single mom raising her child and somebody else's.
I loved her, though she did have the tendency to dish out tough love which often was way - way too harsh. And she was always away leaving me with him. I knew that if I'd only just tell her what he was capable of... What he would do to me when she left... She'd have murdered him herself with her bare hands. But it would kill her. I couldn't do that to her. He was the only thing she had who was blood. Me, I had no-one.
"shit! Is that the time? I'm going to be late. I gotta go, honey. Say bye to Dom for me." she pleaded as she stuffed the last slice of toast in her mouth and gathered her briefcase and her keys. " ...And make sure you have something to eat. You're wasting away!" "Have a good day at work Shaz" I shouted after her. I doubt that she heard me. She was out the door in seconds, jangling her keys and fighting between speaking with me and the ringtone on her work mobile. I heard her professional, scripted 'Hello, Sharon Cormack speaking' as the door slammed behind her.
I made my way through the spotless kitchen Gina, Sharon's housekeeper, always did a good job. I grabbed a bottle of water out of the integrated refrigerator. I also grabbed my iced latte from the coffee machine. It was almost half eight. My first classes start at nine and Luna still wasn't anywhere in sight. I scrambled through my purse for my phone, ready to give her a piece of my mind. That girl would be late to her own funeral.
"You're up early" a voice from behind me sneered. It took all my might to not to curl up in a ball, trembling.
"I... I have school"
No reply. I felt him creeping up behind me, felt his breath against my neck.
"I can think of something much better to do with the day baby" he whispered as he planted acid kisses on my neck. It burned. I squeezed my eyes shut, putting my hands up defensively. He pushed my back into the counter. A sharp pain ran though me.
"Please stop. I have to go" I whispered as his hand snaked its way up my neck, fist knotting tightly in my hair.
'"Why do you think a whore like you has the right to tell me what to do, hm?"
'- Hello? Katy?' Luna's smooth voice called out in sing song.
Oh, thank god for her and her timing. He released me from his grasp and increased the distance between us. His eyes were clouded. I could tell he was pissed. I brushed passed him, running towards Luna, who was standing by the open door. I ran straight into her arms hugging her tightly.
"I thought you'd never show." I whispered. She rested her chin on my shoulder, stroking my hair. I could tell that she was staring daggers at Dom and I could tell he didn't care. Like I said, the same routine. Every morning.
By the time lunch rolled around I had had enough. had gotten into a lot of trouble with Ms. Hallows over an overdue assignment and I had spilt water all down the front of my jeans. It looked like I had pissed myself. My saving grace is that they were dark jeans and so it wasn't too noticable. That didn't stop Georgie from laughing and calling me pissy pants for half the day.
Georgie was the kind of girl that you would avoid in high school. Everybody wanted to be her but everyone hated her so bad. She had golden brunette locks, a slim face and a petite nose. Her friends Nova and Ari were just as bad. Everyone used to tell you that when you left high school things would be different. I am sorry to inform you that they don't. Bullies stay bullies forever.
I forced my way through the groups of students, crowded together in the corridors. The last thing I wanted was to be late for my chat with Mr. Reid
"Y/N" I heard Luna calling after me. I could tell that she was chasing me through the crowd of students. "Y/N. Look, Y/N stop." I rolled my eyes.
"What?" I snapped. I could see the hurt in her eyes. She leaned on the wall, panting. I sighed. "I'm sorry. What's wrong?" I asked. I felt bad for snapping at her. All she wanted was answers, like anyone would have after walking in on what she did. But I don't give answers. I shut down. I don't tell anyone anything. She tried talking once we got in the car. I ignored her and I ran once we'd arrived at school. She didn't even need to speak. I could just tell what she wanted to talk about from the look on her face. I sighed again.
"Luna, I can't talk about this right now." I saw the hurt in her eyes. If I kept pushing her away then eventually she wouldn't fight to stay. 'Good', a small voice whispered in my head. Maybe that would be for the best. She deserves better. Everyone does. I could just end my life today and nobody would care. I used to fight hard against the suicidal ideations that entered my mind but now I didn't see the point.
"I have my meeting and I can't be late. Taco Bell after classes?" I asked. To my relief, she smiled and nodded, that beautiful smile that I loved so much. She was so easy to please. I smiled and walked away towards room 1980. Dr. Reid's office.
"I love you!" she shouted after me smiling.
"I love you more!"
"Lesbians" Georgie mocked. She was stood near the bathrooms. I rolled my eyes.
"Grow up"
Luna was gay but we weren't together. We had been intimate a few times but nothing had come of it. But so what if it had? We both agreed it felt weird as we had known each other as friends for so long. We didn't want to ruin anything. Luna and I had been friends ever since she opened up my juice box for me in kindergarten and then hit the girl who had stolen my straw. We had been inseparable ever since. She's been with me through thick and thin. I'd hate to think where I'd have been if she hadn't been there when my mom had died. We are and will alway's be the best of friends. In another life I could see us growing old together, adopting puppies and children but sometimes, it doesn't work out. And if you love someone, you have to let them go.
I opened the door to 1980 and as soon as I did my heart fluttered in my chest. There he was, as beautiful as ever. He looked up from the book he was reading, glasses perched on his nose and smiled, he seemed glad to see me.
"Sweetie!" he said, a smile spreading across his gorgeous lips. He's the only person who calls me that.
"Dr. Reid" I smiled back. My smile was huge and I probably looked so dorky but I don't care. My day just got brighter. I pulled up a chair next to him and kicked my feet up onto his lap. He rested his hand on my calf.
"So what did you think to the book?"

The Blackboard Jungle: All I Want For Christmas Is You (Part 4)

Warnings: the f-bomb, total holiday fluff
You wound your way through the department store, dodging people and wanting to puke from all the Christmas music as you searched for your mother a nice gift. She was the last one you had to buy for, and you wanted to get her just the perfect thing this year.
I think she has plenty of snow globes, you thought, absentmindedly turning one upside down and watching the glitter float down, then heard someone call your name.
You turned and looked into the grinning face of Miss Peterson, Patti’s third-grade teaching cohort.
“Hiiiii, doll,” she chirped.
“Hello, Cindy, how are you?”
“Oh, I’m just great. Are you shopping for your boyfriend?”
“My boyfriend? I don’t-”
“Patti told me all about it. I mean, well she made a long post on Instagram, how the two of you had been friends for so long, good friends, at least she was to you, and you chose that Jeff Isbell over the happiest day of her life-”
“Did she really?” you snapped. “Well, since the two of you are so close, please tell her I said, ‘Merry Christmas.’” And go fuck yourselves, you thought, deciding your mother would enjoy a very nice pair of diamond earrings.
It was unbelievable to you, how you and Jeff were the names on everyone’s lips anymore, especially since it was all so mistaken. It was heartbreaking how everyone thought you were a couple, when you were simply coworkers who were also close friends.
Of course, you were never able to get him out of your head, especially since the Thanksgiving program. Your combined classes had first traced their hands and colored their drawings in, decorating their turkey pictures with feathers and googly eyes (you stifled a laugh watching the Harrison twins hungrily eyeing the paste, and snorted when you saw Jeff leaping over a chair with his gangly legs to glue their turkey eyes down himself) and enjoying their lunches together.
He had excused himself during the break, and you paused while eating your sandwich, thinking about how really good he was as a teacher, how he never once talked down to the kids or lost his patience with them. He always had time to listen to them, hanging onto their every word.
And they loved him in return, every single one of them showing them their turkeys the second they finished them, and the amount of praise he heaped on their artwork made you smile.
Putting away your lunch bag with a sigh, you looked up just in time to see a six foot tall turkey, complete with wattles, standing in the doorway of your classroom. His tail feathers were so impressive he had to turn sideways just to make it through the doorway.
The children erupted in cheers, and Mr. Isbell strode in and fanned his plumage to their great delight, then announced that if they all quieted down, he would read to them, “Bear Gives Thanks.” After he closed the book, he asked them what they all were thankful for.
He got various answers, from “my new puppy” to “my dad got a new job.” But the one that stood out the most was from Cicely Brown. She raised her hand and said in a quiet voice, “Mr. Isbell, I’m thankful for a teacher like you.”
Tears pooled in his eyes, and you heard a catch in his voice when he whispered, “Thank you.” He turned around (well, awkwardly walked in a circle to turn around) to you and asked, “Miss Y/L/N, what are you thankful for?”
“Hmmm. I’m thankful for friends. And I’m thankful for every person that’s in this room.”
His eyes met yours, his smoldering gaze still able to buckle your knees. “Me too.”
“But I don’t want to be an elf.”
“Oh, c’mon, Y/N, I went and got an elf costume just for you. Where’s your Christmas spirit?”
You put your hands on your hips and pouted. “I have plenty of Christmas spirit. Why can’t I be Mrs. Claus?”
“Because she doesn’t hand out candy canes. She stays home and entertains strange men while Santa works all night.”
“Oh, she does not!” You smacked Jeff’s arm, shaking your head. He really was going to talk you into this getup, wasn’t he?”
You took it from him and he said, “Hurry up and get changed. I need you to help me put on the Santa suit.”
“Why do you need help?” you called from the coatroom, pulling your green and red striped tights on.
“Because I make a skinny Santa, and I have to hold the belly while you button the jacket.”
When you came out, he had already changed into his Santa pants and boots and was sitting at your desk expectantly holding a pillow over his chest and stomach.
“Jeff, you really should eat more if you want to wear this suit,” you laughed, buttoning the buttons over his padded belly.
He made a face, and you said, “What?”
“Nobody calls me Jeff except for my mom.”
“What do they call you?” you asked, puzzled.
“Izzy. Or Iz, if you’re into the whole brevity thing.” He buckled his belt as all the wind left you, then he slapped your elf hat onto your head. Flicking the bell to make it jingle, he said, “C’mon, Sugar Cookie, let’s make a bunch of little people happy.”
It was entirely possible that you wished all the students a Joyous Holiday and handed them a candy cane after they visited with Santa. You had no idea if you actually did, the earth had screamed to a halt after you’d heard Jef-uh, Izzy’s admission.
After all the pupils had left, he shot you a delighted grin, then furrowed his eyebrows at you. “Hey, are you all right?”
“I’m fine,” you said softly. “I’m….hot.”
“Me too. Let’s get changed and go back to the party.”
Although you were dazed, you flung your elf costume off in record time, exiting the coatroom in time to see Izzy unbutton his Santa jacket and toss aside his pillow. He slumped in your chair clad in a white undershirt, slinging an arm against his forehead to wipe off the sweat, and when he dropped it down beside him you could see a tattoo just below his elbow.
Without thinking, you walked over to him and picked up his wrist. Written in delicate script high on his inner forearm was desperadosdreams.
He tried to pull away from you, then he noticed you gasping for air with tears in your eyes. “Does that make sense to you?” he asked quietly.
You nodded, then pressed your lips to his, leaning down and throwing your arms around his neck. When you pulled away for a breath, you looked into his eyes, then pushed the sleeve of your shirt up and extended your arm.
“Does that say IZ?” he asked in a halting voice, and you nodded again, then climbed onto his lap for another passionate kiss. You carded your fingers through his hair as his lips traveled down the front of your throat, then he rubbed his nose against yours as you heard PJ Jones say, “I saw Miss Teacher kissing Santa Claus. And he liked it!”
“Hi, Ian!” you smiled, holding up your ring finger.
“Hi!” he grinned. “Ooh, that’s nice! Congratulations!”
You held your phone toward Izzy. “Ian, this is Izzy.”
“Oh, shit, he’s cute,” Sia said. “Hi, Sexy!”
“Izzy, this is Sia. She’s Ian’s fiancee.”
“Well……” she said, then they both held up their ring fingers.
“Omigosh! You guys got married?!” you exclaimed.
“Yes! I had to promote ‘Sharknado’ at the MGM Grand, and well, since we were in Vegas, we-”
Sia interrupted, “We found this Elvis impersonator, and it was so tacky and cool, I couldn’t have asked for a better wedding.”
“Congratulations! Can you guys come to ours?”
“When is it?” Ian asked, with Sia hollering “Hell yeah!” in the background.
“Next spring. We don’t want to wait that long.” You leaned over and pecked Izzy on the lips. “We’ve waited our whole lives to find each other, we want our married life to begin as soon as possible.”
Thank you so much for being a part of this fic! Because of wedding plans and moving and all that good jazz, I won’t be writing fics online anymore, but I will never forget how wonderful it was to have all your support. Love you always, desperadosdreams
“I do,” you said.
“You bet I do,” Blaze said, sliding your beautiful wedding band on your finger.
“Then by the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Blaze, kiss your bride,”
He swept you in his strong arms, spinning you around, then dipped you and kissed you hard, the first kiss of the rest of your lives, as the fiery red sun sank in the horizon behind the two of you.
Now it was time for the two of you to begin your lives together, and dream as one. And as he kissed you again, you knew you’d found forever, and he had been worth waiting for.
