syndrome from incredibles, Thanos in the comics, mad hatter from Batman, tighten from Megamind, frollo from Hunchback of Notre Dame, Red Hulk, parasite from superman and Ozai all of these villains are pathetic but they work for some reason I cannot place. A lot of stories try and write villains that are pathetic but also scary and it doesn't work- I love Starscream he can be an amazing character (he can be sympathetic or a straight up monster he can be lame but still threatening etc) and I like most versions but God can writers screw him up and he can fall flat (i love tfp i swear but god i hate their starscream! He just didn't work for me! Megatron and knockout are cool tho) Belos for some reason doesn't work for me at all- I know he should be scary while the fandom is wrong about him being a colonizer/cult leader/a dictator (he's not stop using words you dont understand the meaning of)and how insane it is that he's in a kids show (watch more cartoons there's villains darker than him) he's still trying to commit genocide and he's abusive and he's at his core got very little depth or complexity- he's really just an isekai character gone wrong- a pathetic guy with a hero complex and emotional baggage who becomes a villain- but he just didn't work for me. Neither does Jacob Hopkins- he's just Ronaldo from SU if he was written to be a straight up hate sink. I'm a lesbian latina with autism and was raised with a different sect of christan beliefs from him- I know historically this guy would have murdered me and i know he should work but something about him didn't stick the landing! The main thing I think about with belos isn't 'wow this guy is a great villain' it's 'can y'all stop being weirdly ableist toward this old man' or 'why do so many of y'all wanna fuck this man he's ugly' and dont get me started on mcu villains - their version of the mandarin, she-hulk's dumb men rights activists on reddit (seriously that's the scariest villain you can come up with? Like revenge porn is evil but really? I don't like the term man-baby- I have personal issues with how the term has been used in ableist ways- but yeah erm man babies on reddit are the best you can do for a villain? That's freaking stupid) and OMG Sutur in Ragnarok was terrible etc etc- these villains all suck!

How do you write villains that are pathetic but still work? How do write villains who are at their core whiny insecure losers but still work as detestable threatening villains? Like marvel made a character whose whole thing was that he's an incel work but so many other stories fail to write that stuff. Part of me thinks it's because these stories are desperate to make their villain into a hate sink joke but still make them scary and it fails but Tighten and Red Hulk are right there and there's no way the writers weren't purposely writing hate sinks with them! And they work! Why doesn't belos?

Jen Tortures Herself With Every Dreamworks Animated Movie Ever: Megamind

So surprisingly, this is one movie I've never actually seen before outside of all of the memes and all of the love people tend to shower upon it, and after finally seeing it for myself... yeah, I totally get why. Megamind is based as fuck, ya'll.

We focus on, of course, Megamind, who is a supervillain who terrorizes Metro City and is opposed by the heroic Metro Man. At least until Megamind seems to successfully defeat Metro Man, leaving Metro City in his hands and quickly leading him into wanting more than just power alone. While in disguse, he ends up striking up a romance with Roxanne, a local reporter, and at the same time, he ends up creating a new opponent for him to fight to curb his growing boredum in the nerdy (incel) Hal, who quickly becomes more of a villain himself than the hero Megamind wanted him to be. So of course, this leads to all sorts of chaos and hijinks, and while you might think that plot sounds too complicated for its own good, I can surprisingly say, it really isn't!

Yeah, all of the moving pieces here work so well together, interwoven into a really compelling story with some pretty solid emotions and some great character moments. It helps that our cast itself is fantastic; Megamind is such a good lead, he's a genuis, but he's also totally socially graceless and is an absolute lovable goober as a result, one who comes to realize that he can be more than the "villain" stereotype he believed he was forced into being from childhood. Roxanne is also a really good leading lady; she's funny and snarky and has really great chemistry with Megamind throughout.

Metro Man doesn't get a ton of screentime, but he's a great parody on the usual superhero tropes, while Minion is the perfect right hand man (fish?) to Megamind in every way. Even our villain, Hal, or as he comes to be called, Titan, works really well here; he's the kind of asshole who just doesn't take no for an answer that we can all justifably hate (but he's also hilarious in his own right).

The animation is also really great here. I find that Dreamworks movies tend to look their best when their characters are highly stylized, and that's what we get a lot of here. We get a lot of really fun action scenes, both in terms of fighting and Megamind's tech. and strangely enough the special effects here (things like fabric and particle effects, etc) really stood out to me, they were all super well done.

The humor is absolutely fantastic here. It's not as adult as some of Dreamworks earlier days, but instead it relies more on who these characters are and how they interact with each other. I think one of my favorite running gags is Megamind obliviously mispronouncing various words (like school and Metro City). There's a bunch of small bits just like that throughout the movie, and they're all so fast paced and well delivered by a really stellar voice cast. The emotions also strike a cord here; there aren't any tearjerker moments, but you really do feel Megamind's growth here as he falls in love and eventually decides to become the hero he never thought he could be.

So yeah, I really enjoyed this one! It's a shame it took me this long to watch it, because it was super enjoyable all the way through. Also amazing that it never really spawned any legit sequels, but I heard its getting a show next year, so idk. I am probs not gonna watch it. Movie good tho, give it a watch if ya haven't.

Okay, what kind of villain would Romania be (other than vampire)?

I thought about this before (I think too much about this mf lol)

So he's a passionate guy and he already has a dark bravado going on if you want to focus on that (even if it's displayed unseriously) and not on him being a silly nerd about dark magical stuff. But speaking of-

Two ideas come to my mind besides vampires, a sorcerer OR a mad scientist (if you don't want a fantasy au), but he's not the kind of gloomy blood thirsty psycho villain (even tho I made a version of that too), keeping his nerdy and cheerful personality somehow intact, he'd be that comical villain that tries to defeat the hero and fails due to the power of nonsense and plot armor. The kind of occurring villain that you usually see in kids cartoons. BUT also not the butt of a joke kind, like let's say Jack Spicer (from Xiaolin Showdown). I'm gonna use some cartoon villains as a reference and say he's a combination between Dr. Drakken (Kim Possible) and Megamind, he's still jokishly evil but also competent enough about it, it's just it's either the hero is too powerful or the plot demands that he loses and it finds a way to do so. He'd be willing to hang out with the hero afterwards and do some shopping or stuff like that, he'll try to kill them later.

He does what he does because he's "kinda" evil but also to keep up his passion and avoid taxes. (Aren't we all?)

Aesthetically and in fashion sense he's still presentable, he does care about his image and everything he does he has to do it in style to impress, even if it's losing.

So if it's either a sorcerer or a scientist or a doctor, he commits "crimes" for either of these reasons: to gather things for his projects, recognition to his image in some villainous organization or society, because it's a hobby, to spend time with the heroes, develop ways to escape prison, because a bigger fish said so (the more intimidating villain), avoid taxes (maybe he still pays some of them idk), because bad childhood trauma (and he does things in relation to that), maybe to fulfill a life long dream or a promise, etc.

Additionally he'd be a good parent to his pets or to his (if you want) family, if you want to add Moldova then he'd still be a good big brother, a good guy to his close "associations", but a dick to everyone else. It's split in half when it comes to the heroes.

I can also see him as the type to have an assistant, a sidekick or a partner (most of the references I'm thinking of also have one). Now the sidekick can be the more serious and competent one but still follows his orders because he pays well or they just want a laugh out of his failures, or they can be the even dumber one who's screwing up his plans (or he can have both, why tf not?).

When the situation calls for it he locks in and actually does something that makes him successful in his mission (for once or twice, or trice).

Give him a comical evil pet (cat) that sits in his lap and judges you worse than he does, or any kind of pet.

He helps the hero on accident and he's salty about it.

He'd rather cook for himself than eat in a fancy restaurant and paying more for less (he holds tight to his money, still buys a personal cook and junk food lmao, it's all about quantity with him).

Quality for his clothes though.

He'd call off his evil mission in a middle of a fight to go watch his favorite music band in a concert he forgot it takes place that day (he has bigger priorities besides being a villain).

Whether you make him sympathetic or not doesn't effect his actions or motivation, maybe to present him in a new perspective if you want.

He makes up kid friendly slurs and insults (when his brother is around).

On the scale of redemption he's redeemable enough but he's way more funnier like this.

He's awsome really, when he's the focus in the story (for one episode)

He's still a jerk though.

Karma bites his ass a few times.

So yeah, if you want to keep his personality somehow intact go for the comical villain. BUTT If you want to actually make him intimidating, mysterious and dark then you can develop him that way too regardless of how occ it looks, it's all about backstory and understanding of his reasoning. I'd say my priority in that regard would be about 70% of making sense story wise, and 30% of staying in character if that's the case (or 40% if the character is more appealing the way they are).

virgil is a hypocritical annoying asshole . i geetttt he was treated baadlyyy or whatever but all he does is whine & whine. i understand he has very interesting lore to his character and why he acts the way he does (eg. treat the dark sides the same way he was treated, treat logan & roman the way he does, act how he did in embarrassing phases tho arguably that was thomas' fault 4 not knowing how 2 write) but hes given SO much attention w/o any input on his lore that its just like . unbearable 2 even watch

he doesnt like when thomas tries 2 accept the other dark sides, but he was once a dark side & wanted 2 b accepted . the entire way he treats roman & logan in the puppet vid is SO ANNOYING. i swear 2 god theres this 1 line where virgil tells roman not 2 like. overreact in a mean way 2 logan or whatever his phrasing was & then he IMMEDIATELY DOES IT 2 LOGAN. he dislikes when ppl mess w/ his look, in making some changes, but then does it 2 the rest of the sides in embarrassing phases YEARS after it happened so i dont even think it could be written as like a "revenge" thing hes been accepted for AWHILE. so hes just purposefully being weird & a dick 4 no reason. like virgil could be a really interesting character but the way thomas' treats everything abt him it just makes him so bland and downright annoying. his hypocrisy could be used in a way that makes him Not annoying but i highly doubt thomas is ever going to even touch on anything he does. i jsut. i want to grab his neck & squeeze it & shake him back and forth if i ever catch virgil irl im beating his ass

& virgils personality cannot be written One Way. it changes every episode. correct me if im wrong bcuz i just woke up but i swear 2 god theres not a single episode whwre he is in the wrong & needs 2 apologise or has done something thats not okay. like all of his actions r always put into a good light bcuz obviously he is our pure little cinnamon roll angel anxiety 😍. am i crazy is there actually no episode where he is wrong. i know theres episodes for logan, roman, & patton.

been having some fun with re-designing lady doppler (why's she called that? does doppler mean anything?) as the original design in the movie/show is terrible - she looks like she bought that fit at the dollar store, more like lady dollar amiright huh what

anyways i wanted to keep the gummy since she does have electricity powers so that makes sense - however i gave her some tech instead of her just randomly having magic powers. (pretty sure she gets defeated by her own electricty in the movie - idk haven't watched it - and i just feel like if she had magic electricity powers surely she would be more resistent to elecricity so this way it just makes more sense to me)

If this Doom Syndicate truly worked together with Megamind (purely business related and probably never met in person) i think they would've absolutely asked him to make them some cool shit

i did like the umbrella skirt in the og design but felt like in my design it looked a bit too childish? not sure about that cape either tho. i felt like she needed something cool and floaty

the tornado hair works too i think - i don't hate it that much

i also like the idea that Megamind provided her with her weapon which she now uses against him bc he's a hero now - like he can't escape his villain past that easily and in this way is still responsible for some villain stuff that's happening etc etc this is so deep

The Ravening War Heroforges

so I’ve made over 100 guys in Heroforge, and dimension 20 uses Heroforge as a tool when making their minis. this means that I’ll be going along watching and see our boy Raphaniel and go “oh shit that’s my favorite Tunica Skirt from the ancient Roman update!”

i decided to put this weird talent to (good??) use for any folks out there looking to make their own minis/fanart/whatever, and made Heroforge builds of our PCs, using all the pieces I recognized, or their closest equivalent. where I couldn’t find footage of certain angles, I went off the character art.

disclaimer: dimension 20 uses a LOT of resources other than Heroforge to make their spectacular minis (e.g. paint!). this isn’t a ‘aha i’m bootlegging the minis 1:1’ situation - there’s a lot of cool stuff on these gorgeous lil guys that isn’t in Heroforge, which I’ll try to note next to each one. these are approximations of potential base models, not exact copies - all kudos and respect to Shane Brockaway and the other amazing miniature artists on dimension 20 for their exceptional work on the minis this season!

a few things that are different on every build

color (obvs) - I still colored in each guy, mostly based on character art, but obviously the minis are painted (beautifully!)

food stuff - generally, any sort of food-y features (Deli’s toasty Leia buns, Raphaniel’s big ol radish head) are going to not be in Heroforge, for obvious reasons - I still tried to approximate the vibe, but our radish man is simply not going to be as wrinkly as we want him to be

poses - I put each guy in what I think the base pose was, but advanced posing is not an exact science. also, it takes a really really long time. mad props to the crew for some of these excellent poses!

faces - it’s really really hard to tell what face base they might’ve used on the minis. I chose primarily based on vibes and my best guesses. this means sometimes the face changes b/w different versions of the same character. it is what it is baby! also obvs the minis don’t have specific eye color so I went off the art.

Let’s start with the first battle!

Bishop Raphaniel Charlock (link)

his big wrinkly radish head. he’s rocking the zuko season 1 haircut for now, and I tried to give him some subtle decal wrinkles. I tried just making his head bigger, but it made the face bigger too - think bobblehead, not megamind - so not the look we’re going for.

his crozier (the only hoe on Heroforge is me *badum tssssh*)

whatever is going around his neck on his chest - it’s all round and pretty and I do not recognize it. used a cowl instead.

the end of his beard - it looks all like roots and is very cool. I put what I think the starting beard was, but I can’t recreate those spindly lil roots w/out some serious clipping

I’m not 100% certain those are his gloves. the ones on the mini are so much thicker! hmmmmm

I’m sorry about the beard situation. the mini itself has painted-on scruff so I just did a decal, but I’m aware it is. not necessarily as good a look up close.

those gorgeous slices of rye. the crown thing on top of em isn’t in HF either. I used some swirly horns to approximate, though i was considering earmuffs. they looked too silly for me tho lol.

the toothpick - Detriter, as we now know it is called. I used a javelin and put a lil blue decal at the end to represent the frillies.

the shield - couldn’t find one with those random spikes of bone (nice one d20 crew!), so I used a scutum, a Roman shield of about the same size and shape, bc hey, he’s also Ceresian, which is based on Rome.

the d20 crew has hair magic that I do not. also some sort of cute flower behind her ear, which I approximated with a broken off horn posed weird to look like a rose.

the chili pepper hood w stem. I finagled a horn up there but it just aint the same.

the hair. idk what the d20 crew does to make HF show hair after a hood has been equipped but they crushed it.

this pose is a work of art unto itself. I can only hope to get in the vague aura of it.

same as before mostly - the hoe, the beard, and the big ol radish head. you can’t really see the mystery chestpiece anymore.

his head got so much bigger and saggier I felt like I had to give him something, so I upped the head size a few notches and gave him a little flesh beret with a couple of limp “leaves” coming out of it

you don’t really see it from the front, but there’s a shot where you can see the back of the mini and he has a lil book on his shoulders. iconic.

I probably could’ve made him grimier, but I prioritized face scars. I figure since becoming a knight maybe he’s cleaned up a bit

update: relistening to ep 1, I forgot we actually get a description of the Fontina banner (”a dotted mountain atop an island”)! so for funsies I gave him a lil banner on his back and attempted to recreate it, using the Dairy Islands banner as a background. go thru the link to check it out, I don’t want to attach yet another image to this monster of a post.

that glove. folks, that glove dealt me psychic damage, because it was on the very edge of my memory but I couldn’t quite grasp it, until I realized they probably added the spikes afterwards. also, I used the ol’ robot hand trick to make it look like he has like a metal gauntlet attached to it. (you replace one hand with an artificial robot hand in the prosthetics/amputation menu)

the decals I used to give him rye bread arms continue onto his chest more that they should (which you couldn’t see when he was wearing a breastplate) c’est la vie.

I couldn’t embed spiky things on the frilly part of Detriter like Lou said in the episode :/ they weren’t on the mini anyway at least

this pose is wild. I think I found the original pose they based it on, but I could very well be wrong. applause to the d20 crew for the sick look!

she still has the flower in her mini, but now it’s on top of her bun - a good look! Alas, no hat options matched, and my mediocre posing-a-horn-weird-until-it-clips-through-the-head skills were not up to the task, so for the moment this HF build remains flowerless.

In her opening shot of the battle (which I included) you can see a big ol’ crossbow on her back, but it is removed in other shots (presumably, it is a separate piece they moved out of the way when she wasn’t using it). so, I did not include it.

fun fact: the rapier the mini is using is much thicker that how the rapier looks on HF. why? Bc most of the older HF sword designs are thicker, so I think they spliced the basket handle of the new rapier with the blade of an older sword, to make it more sturdy for play. or maybe I’m just misjudging blade-to-handle ratio - I’ve never actually 3d-printed any of my HF guys ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Main differences

the scar - in the character art it’s one straight streak, but on the mini it looks like there might be more (it’s hard to get zoomed in enough to tell). I compromised with one main dark one, and then a lighter, more subtle one going the other way.

the way her burning hand is blackened as the fire rages around it...poetic cinema. transcendent. I used a splatter decal to approximate but seriously it looks so dope on the mini - look!

People seem to collectively hate Monsters Vs Aliens and idk why. My fam and I have always loved it and me and my dad used to always quote it all the time.

Now, is it better than Megamind? No way. Megamind is a masterpeice of cinema and is very much obviously the superior movie. But is Monsters Vs Aliens THAT horrible? I really don't think so.

I watched it again recently for old times sake and sentimental nostalgia and I really do think it's kind of underated. Is the animation style kind of ugly? First off, ugly and pretty are very subjective, second, yeah I can see why some might find the character design kinda ugly with their weird porportions and Susan's huge fucking eyes. But I really don't think it's THAT bad.

Also people seem to rag on the plot a fair amount as well but the plot and message are both actually pretty awesome if you ask me.

Susan is SUCH a good protagonist ok???

Gonna share my appreciation with ya'll for her.

I know there's probably people out there that view her as annoying and whinny but like??? Give her a fucking break! The girl literally starts off as the most basic average young adult white girl you've ever seen. Like fr she was probably on the more populer side at school, was definitly on the richer side when it comes to the middle class, seemed to live in a very cookie cut suburd neighborhood, and was going to marry one of the most painfully boring and typical white dudes ever. Like this girl was DEFINITELY one of those white girls you always see youtubers do impressions of n shit.

And by PURE CHANCE and coincidence, she gets hit by a meteor on her wedding day (Also can we talk about that hysterically anticlimactic "Oof!" she lets out when she got hit and her mom just brushing off her words when she says she got hit my a meteorite like "yep, everyone feels like that" as if her daughter wasn't fucking COVERED in dirt and ash) and it completely derails her very normal life.

Can we talk about Derek for a sec tho? Like what a fucking selfish jackass! The guy KNEW how excited Susan was about Paris and yet he only cares about himself and continuesly proves he doesn't give a shit about her enough to inconveiniance himself for her AT ALLLLL. Unlike Susan who was completely ready to forget about her Paris honeymoon for him. Like I bet you if Susan hadn't had this whole thing happen to her she'd have the most miserable loveless mariage with this dude and would be in denial of it for YEARS and keep trying to tell herself he cares but probably won't realize he doesn't until way way later. This guy was going to definitly waste a good chunk of her life and leave her feeling so so incredibly lost...

She's confused and scared(seriously her hair turned white in miliseconds becuase of how distressed she was) as everyone runs away screaming and she tries in vain to calm everyone down and things only get more disorienting as helicopters and fucking military men start attacking her and she doesn't understand what she's done wrong. And we also get some foreshadowing of how strong and how much potential she has with her newfound strength yet she doesn't know that yet. A few soldiers attempt to pull her down with ropes around her arm and at first she struggles against it but as SOON as she sees Derek is in danger she's like "Hey leave him alone! Don't hurt him!" and pulls herself free with incredible ease!

So then, Susan is very understandably freaking out and panicking when she wakes up in Area 51, yelling and screaming that she doesn't belong here as she's up until now most likely never experienced such and confusing and stressful situation. And honestly I feel SO SORRY for her that whole thing must've been so overwhelming and scary. We kind of get a timeskip after she sits in the corner of her cell but I bet you she was having a breakdown for the whole first week.

Small note, the government changed her name to Ginormica. Like bruh...

Then villain introduction yada yada skipping ahead a little bit.

Quick mention of the BANGER scene where the President plays Axel F for an alien robot. One of my fave scenes in the whole movie fr.

Also mentioning how Susan is SO SO determined to get out of monster prison.

So Susan and the other monsters are tasked with fighting an alien robot in exchange for their freedom. Susan is like "Oh yes! I'm gonna see my family again!" and I don't think the thought of fighting a robot has fully sunk in yet becuase she's way more focused on the prospect of seeing her lover again.

And THEN she sees this MOUNTAIN of a fucking robot that actually kind of scared me as a kid, and it finally sinks in. They want her to fight THAT. She was not expecting it to be so fucking big. Do these people actually expect her to fight this thing?? She starts freaking out again because like?? HOW??? How is she supposed to fight that thing?? She's never fought before!

Then big action scene, comedic moments with the trio, Susan runs away from the robot scared out of her fucking mind as this huge hulking metal monster aggressively persues her. And we get an actually really funny joke where she's clinging onto the edge of a roof, scared she's gonna fall only to fall like, two inches onto her feet when her grip slips and she's like "Oh. Right. Haha.".

Monster shenanigans again, She's on the bridge and continuing to get as far away from the robot as she can when she sees a car crash happen and reflexively stops in her tracks. She can clearly see the robot just a short distance away, but instead of continuing to run, she risks closing the gap of distance she's created for herself from the robot and chooses to instead help the people who might possibly be hurt and injured. She tries to warn them even as they run away becuase they are scared of her to get off the bridge before the robot gets to all of them.

Yeah, ok, maybe it's kinda ridiculous how fast the robot closes that distance between it and her but movie logic™ ok???

The robot has her cornered, it opens up a panel with a bunch of rotating teeth, intending to GRIND HER INTO A BLOODY PASTE like can we talk about how horrifying of a situation that is?? You're literal inches from a killer meatgrinder that's angling the bridge you're on so that you slide right into a waiting painful hole of death!

Insectisaurous, another big monster she was at first terrified of, shows up just in time. You see that look of incredible relief on Susan's face as he comes to her rescue, incopasitating the robot and pulling the bridge back to it's correct angle in order to help her get away.

Susan starts frantically asking why this robot is so hellbent on killing her specifically. It's not like she's been trying to attack it this whole time! Like why??? Robot seemingly crushes her in its robot hand but then, she pries its hand back open, the gang watching in awe.

In the struggle, the robot creates a huge hole in the bridge and a couple's car starts to fall into it but Susan stop it! "You're doing great!" "I'm doing EVERYTHING!!!" - ASFDJKLHFSDLAJKHSFDJKFASD

Susan, still thinking about the wellbeing of others, prioritizes getting all these people off the bridge and away from danger. When Bob clears the way somewhat, she yells at the people in their cars to go while still wresting with the robot hand to prevent it from harming any of them.

She's obviously tiring from holding his hand at bay for so so long and knows she can't keep it up forever and that's a scary thought to have cuz she's unsure how she's going to get away from this thing. But then she takes in her suroundings and a plan forms in her head.

Once again, Susan has never had to do this before. She's just winging this and is fighting for her god damn life! She speaks to herself to hype herself up for what she's about to attempt, hoping it will work.

Then BAM! With a determined burst of strength she jumps into action, pushing the robot hand wide open before grabbing the other and pulling the robot towards her, using its weight and topheaviness to make it lose balance and fall forwards. She grabs Link whose out cold btw rn, and carries him to safety, jumping out of the way JUST in time before the robot completely destroyes the bridge where she just was as it falls over.

A peice of the bridge comes down with it and severes its head from the rest of its body, effectively damaging it enough to power it off, permanently. Susan peers over the edge of the collapsed bridge, a smile of relief that the danger has passed and she's still alive spreading across her face. She actually did it!

Villain scene and monolouge, impending doom approaching, time skip,

Susan is excitedly talking to the others as they ride in the plane's cargohold about how "Wow! I can't believe I actually did that!" and she's so so proud of herself and you see Dr. Cockroach and Bob smiling back at her becuase from their POV she's probably glowing so so brightly and looks the happiest they've seen her ever. Her confidence is at skyrocket height right now! And yet, she can't help but long for her old life. She tells them how she's going to find a way to become normal again and that Derek will help her because he loves and cares about her and won't rest until they've fixed this(poor thing doesn't realize how much of a shitstain Derek is yet).

Bob (yeah he's the comic relief but i feel like people greatly underate how honest and genuine he can be like come onnnnnn(also yes I added him to my kinlist idgaf)) is like "Wait but you were just talking about how you're so strong now and how there's not a jar in this world you can't open" and yeah the whole line is played in a comedic light cuz Bob seems to only care about whatever food is in the jar she can't open but I feel like it's a little deeper than that.

After hearing about how great Derek seemingly is, the gang wants to meet him and Susan is like "Yeah sure I'll gladly introduce you guys!" and they all arrive at her home and she looks so happy to be back!!

Her family is kinda wary of the gang but she reassures them they're all chill and introduces them as her new friends, showcasing how far she's come relationshipwise with the three of them(since she was scared of them and found both Bob and Dr. Cockroach gross when they all first met. She legit tried to kill Dr. Cockroach when they first met like wow.)

Another example of Derek not caring, he doesn't show up to welcome her home from prison. Susan runs off to go get him so they can all celebrate together.

The monster gang tries to adjust to society and does their best to be friendly and nice but everyone is still super scared of them and it doesn't go very well...

Susan is SO SO HAPPY to see Derek again! She forgets how big she is and how strong she is in her excitement and Derek is kinda... understandably distressed when she picks him up, swings him around, almost suffocates him and almost crushes him. When Susan realizes this she immediatly apoligizes to him and puts him down.

Derek proceeds to show just how much of a fucking dickwad he is. When he asks her if he expects him to put his whole career on hold to help her, she's like "YES???" like bro this girl was ready to make the sacrifice of her PARIS HONEYMOON that she was VERY VISIBELY LOOKING FORWARD TO for your benifit!! Derek breaks Susan's heart and she's completely at a loss now. Everything feels like a lie. She leaves her home to go off to where she does not know.

Once again, yes, I KNOW it's kind of an impossible reach for the monster trio to show up right then. And ONCE AGAIN, I'm claiming movie logic™.

Bob once again being incredibly blunt and honest. Makes the whole gang face the fact that everyone hates them and doesn't want to be around them.

Heard somone bring up and praise the "We could save every city on the planet and they'd still treat us the way they've always treated us. Like monsters..." and honestly, fucking correct and valid.

They all have that quiet sad moment together.

Link tries to lighten the mood by asking how things went with Derek, the seemingly perfect and accepting loving guy Susan has sung the praises of for her entirety of her time with them in prison(seriously Link's whole response to her talking about him in that one scene way earlier implies she talked about Derek NONSTOP). He and the others do not yet know he's a prick as Susan had just discovered.

Susan finally accepts the fact that he's a selfish jerk as she tells the gang so.

"There was never and us! There was only Derek! Why did I have to get hit by a meteorite do realize that??" - Girl go OFF!!!!

She gets a good old rant out and in the process realizes that she doesn't have to feel lost. She's gonna be just fine without him because she's fucking amazing and has four new awesome friends now. She tells them just how awesome they all are and that none of them have to be accepted by society. They all have a character turning moment where Susan has learned she loves this new her and things are looking real up for the five of them! But then, of course, something has to go wrong.

Galaxar's ship shows up and abducts Susan. Insectosaurus tries to help her again but is hit by a ball of energy from the spaceship's cannon. He lets out the most heartwrenching shriek and we get an actually really sad scene as Susan is pulled into the ship and Link, knowing there's really nothing they can do for her in that moment, rushes over to his friend.

"Don't close those eyes. Don't you DARE close those eyes!" *Insectosaurus's eyes slide shut* "You can't..." - LIKE COME ON THAT WAS FUCKING SADDDDD AAAAAAAAAA

Susan has a confrontation with Galaxar, the villain of this movie. They have a very "You have gotten in my way for the last time" "I don't know who tf you are!" moment.

Susan has a moment of clarity where she's like "Wait, all of this is YOUR fault??" and she realizes that he's the reason her whole life was derailed and why she suffered all this trauma of her wedding day, being taken away from everything she's ever known with no hope of ever seeing her family again, and almost dying in a fight with a robot. He's why her fiance wants nothing to do with her(not defending Galaxar or anything for this cuz he did a lot of horrible shit but he really did her a solid by derailing her life cuz as i've stated before, Derek would have ruined her life in the long term if all this never happened to her).

Galaxar is all smug during this.

"You destroyed San Fransisco, you terrified millions of people, you killed my friend, just to get to me??" - My poor girl really out here still putting other people before her and caring more about them than herself...

Galaxar is so sure he's got the upperhand, so sure he's safe from her becuase of that forcefeild. But nah, Susan is fucking LIVID now and breaks through that forcefeild.

She proceeds to break through every barrier Galaxar puts between himself and her becuase she's learned just how imposing her power is now. She's chases after him through the ship like "I'M GOING TO FUCKING KICK YOUR ASS!!!" and Galaxar is actually genuinly scared of her as he's fleeing.

LIKE YES QUEEN!!!! GET HIS ASS!!! KILL THE BLUE FUCK!!!!

And because we still got a fair amount of run time to go, and because we still need our protagonist to struggle a bit, Galaxar manages to trap Susan in the extraction chamber just as she's about to get him. She's still glaring absolute daggers at him through the glass though. He looks back at her, smug expression returning. She then slams her hands into the glass and it STARTS TO CRACK!!! Galaxar is getting scared again and jumps back but he also commands the computer to begin the extraction process.

Susan is determined to break out and get to the person responsible for everything that has happened to her in the past month, but as the Quantonium is removed from her body, her pounds on the glass get weaker and weaker and soon she's no longer cracking the glass. Her now much smaller hand weakly presses against the glass one last time before the chamber retracts and she's left lying there back at her original size.

And even after all that, and even though Galaxar now towers over in instead of the other way around, she still meets his gaze with her own determined glare.

Side note, I know it's supposed to be a joke and all but im really curious about why exactly Galaxar came to the conclusion of destorying his whole fucking planet.

Also,

"There were innocent people on my home planet before it was destroyed!"

"Well I'm sorry your planet was destroyed..." "Oh don't be. I was the one who destoryed it" - Idk this whole exchange is just really clever to me. Like talk about speedrunning the whole trying to sympathsize with the villain and then discovering they really are just a bad person trope LMAO.

Another big skip,

Link is still mourning Insectosaurus, and both Bob and Dr. Cockroach are unsure what to do. Link takes the intiative right then and there.

"We're not gonna let Insecto die in vain. We're gonna get up there, find Susan, and we're gonna take that alien down!" - HELL YEAH BRO!!!

Skip skip, they get onto the ship, they find Susan(Galaxar was going to throw her into the incenerator. As a pyrophobe, WHAT a horrible way to go out wow), Bob fucking murders somone,

"I can't believe you guys actually came for me ;-;" "Us monsters gotta stick together" - Like holy shit that's so adorable.

Poor Susan isn't sure if she can even call herself one of them anymore becuase she's small again :( (Only thing different is that her hair is still white)

Dr. Cockroach assures her she's still awesome.

Skip again,

Big epic fight scene. Link actually gets to do shit this time and isn't unconscious.

They set the ship to self destruct and the doors to the chamber begin to shut. The gang rushes to reach the doors before they close all the way. They manage to get Susan through the doors right before they shut but the trio isn't so lucky.

The trio urges Susan to leave without them but she doesn't want to.

"You can finally get your old life back..."

"But I don't want me old life back!" - SHE DOESN'T WANNA ABANDON HER FOUND FAM FR!!! She finds a way up to the control chamber where Galaxar is priming the escape pod and intending to leave with the Quantonium.

"Are you crazy?? You could've killed me!" "Then we understand eachother." - fuckin baller line.

Susan demands for him to open up the doors and release her friends but he's like "lmao make me" and then when he goes to climb into the escape pod, she stops him and they have a scuffle that ends with her holding him at gun point like "You better fuckin do it right fucking now buddy!"

"Even if I wanted to I couldn't! That's what happens when you set the ship to selfdestruct!! Now we're all going to die! And there's nothing you can do about it! Sooooooooosan." <- says her name in a very mocking tone.

And Susan is like "Actually I can do something about it" "And the name is Ginormica" *points the gun up and shoots it at the thing holding the Quantonium so it falls on her* - FUCKING BAD ASS!!!!

So Susan is big again, she saves her friends just in time, She jumps off the small platform they were huddled on just as a peice of the ship comes down on top of it, smashing through the floor of the ship. The four of them grab onto eachother and dangle thousands of feet above the ground, Susan clinging on for dear life to the bottom of the ship.

She loses her grip and they all start to fall but they're caught by somone.

Turns out Insectosaurus isn't dead!! He's a butterfly now!!!!!

They all fly away to safety just as the ship's automated computer voice counts down.

Galaxar is frantically pushing buttons on the control panel since the escape pod doesn't work without the Quantonium. He covers his ears and squeezes his eyes shut as the countdown ends.

"Three, two, one."

"Hmm, nothing happened, maybe my count wa-" *ship explodes* - This part had me DYINGGGG the first time I saw this movie.

Butterflyosaurus lands before a crowd of cheering people.

Susan's parents are all proud of her.

"Oh Susan, ever since you were a maybe, your dad and I knew that you'd... you know, save the planet from an invasion from outterspace" - Can we talk about how fucking weird this must've been for them??? Like yeah it was scary for Susan, but imagine how her parents must be feeling; like their only child started growing into a giant at her wedding and then she was taken away from them to some place unknown and they didn't hear anything from her after that(bet you the government deleted her birth info and denied she ever existed and was straight up gaslighting them into believing they never had a daughter.) until suddenly their duaghter is on the news becuase she fought a giant alien robot and I wonder if they knew she almost DIED doing it.

Derek shows up then, makes a shitty attempt at apologizing to her- no wait he DOESN'T say he's sorry, nah he doesn't hold himself in the wrong. This fucker.

"Baby I thought long and hard about what I said, and I wanted you to know, I forgive you." "... You forgive... me?" Susan is visibily perplexed at this.

"Yes it's not your fault you got hit by a meteor and ruined everything. In fact you didn't ruin everything. I just got a call from New York. They offered me network! All I gotta do is get an exclusive interview from you!" - Yes, he's only "forgiving her" cuz it benifits him. I cannot believe I saw people in the comments of a video about MvA saying she should've forgave him like ya'll are fucking stupid.

So Susan is like "Oh wow reallY?!?!?! Cool! Hey is the camera still rolling?" And Derek, unaware he's fucked up, says "Of course lol!" So Susan proceeds to break up with him on live television and then flick him up into the air. She also tells Bob to catch him so he doesn't splat onto the pavement.

Bob then tells him off for being a selfish asshole and Derek, now humiliated, tells them to shut the camera off.

and honestly??? FUCKING DESERVED!!! Hope that clip becomes immortalized as a meme and you are forever branded as the idiot who icon monster celebrity Susan Murphy broke up with on live television. also 100% convinced that the group of people on the internet who have a huge thing for giant women hate Derek for turning down having a supersized wife like all of them would KILL for that COME ON BRO!!!!

A slug apparently got turned into a Kaiju in Paris so the gang all fly off into the sunset to go deal with that and the movie ends~ LIKE HELL YEAH SUSAN YOU FINALLY GET TO GO TO PARIS YEAH!!! After all the shit she's been through she deserves at least that.

There's a fair amount of things I didn't mention but I think that if anyone reading this hasn't seen Monsters vs Aliens before, or hasn't seen it in a while, you should give it a watch again/for the first time. You don't HAVE to, but I recommend.

Maybe some of the jokes aged poorly, maybe some of the humor is kind of childish and unfunny, maybe its full of outdated "HEY LOOK THIS MOVIE WAS IN 3D!!!" bits, but I fucking love this movie ok???!?!?!?!?!

It's in no way perfect and in no way one of Dreamworks best films ever but I feel like it isn't necessarily one of their worst ones either.

Finally watched spiderverse so here some initials thoughts / analysis / theorizing...... This is all messages I originally sent to my friend so if they're worded nonsensically that's why 😭

Just so u know I'm genuinely mad at Miguel for acting like that towards my cousin Miles so it's gonna influence some of my thoughts on him 🫶���� warning for spoilers for Everything of course 😱

I started thinking about it and I think Miguel is wrong about Miles being an anomaly btw.

My thought is that... Yeah the spider is from a different universe, but Miles is from a different Canon, if that makes sense 😭 like he doesn't have to follow the same canon as every other spiderman cuz his story is His Own. Not to mention the like... Puzzle pieces falling into place. If he wasn't meant for the role, why did he lose his uncle? Why is he at risk of losing his father? It's not by sheer coincidence!

Miguel didn't dare consider the fact that some stories will take different directions, and not everyone's Canon Events are gonna be the same because not every spiderman is the same!!

I hope Hobie and Pav get more screentime in the next 😭 they're both rly charming but I don't feel like I got a chance to rly Know them yet .... Especially when I feel like a lot of Hobie's dialogue was Quips 😔 his personality rly shined thru his actions + interactions with Miles tho

I don't imagine Miguel would be #Killed in the next movie but I do think he would need to like..... Damn what's the word.... He would have to realize that he shouldn't force his pain onto others if that makes sense 😭

The fact that Miguel just.... Slotted himself into this universe where he didn't Belong. Like that says something about him that he was so willing to Replace this dead version of himself. That his Spidermanning wasn't fulfilling to him and he thought he'd be happier with a Normal life. And for a time it worked.... This all implies something about him but I don't have much more of a developed thought than that

I think Miguel is jealous of Miles... That Miles is determined enough to Change things, to try something new. Miguel gave up on that kinda thing long ago, but Miles is still young and bold.

It's not like [Miguel doomed a dimension] Intentionally 😭 and it was probably that that led to him forming the Spider Dimension Bureau of whatever the hell he called it... It's easy to imagine him feeling envious that ah..... Other spider people got to have Happy Endings, essentially, despite their pain n suffering

I wanna say Miguel shouldn't be the Leader but I like... Get why he Is 😭💔 compared to the other Spider People he's... Ruthless. He'll do anything to get the job done, he's managed to shut off the part of himself that Cares basically. He'll put himself in the position of Spiderman and make sure nothing else matters but that role and ensuring the #Multiverse doesn't collapse... HOWEVER. that doesn't mean he's a Good leader 😭💔 he's effective but not good...

Also when they were fighting that Vulture guy I saw the guys wings rise up behind Miguel and I just know it's symbolism but I can't decide for What... Maybe a fallen angel kinda thing

[● I should not find it as funny as I do when I see movie theater incidents regarding kids' movies, or just. Movies in general, like technical difficulties or straight up bizarre occurrences

I literally just found out a few minutes ago that apparently in Ireland, there was a screening for the Super Mario Bros movie, and at some point an image of a partially nude woman flashed onscreen for a few seconds, and I'm in fucking tears. At the same time, I'm picturing this and it would probably kind of scare me. Funnily enough, I watched the Mario movie for the first time today and I am glad to say I did not see a partially nude woman flash onscreen.

There's also fucking. The one screening of Bee movie where someone fucked up and put in the wrong tape and kids ended up watching Saw IV instead, and I am still laughing about that fucking story. It took them a few minutes to realize what happened, and eventually Bee movie was played. I'm sure if I was a kid in that theater, I would also probably be traumatized, but I'm a fuckin teen who loves these movies with a deep passion and I think the scariest part of that movie was seeing Jigsaw's dick, so... sux to be them because that part was literally in the opening scene.

A similar incident happened as well with Megamind and Saw 3D, and like. Saw 3D's opening scene wasn't as bad because it's just Lawrence cauterizing his wound (did I spell that right? Idfk) and I doubt that the theater would let it get to the public execution scene.

This is more tame but I remember hearing a story about a trailer for [● REC] being played before a kids' movie and I think that's funny. The trailer in question is kinda scary I guess but it isn't graphic, it's just firefighters exploring the apartment and then Jennifer screaming and attacking them, but you can't see most of it because it's so damn dark.

This is not about a kids' movie but I find it funny to hear about someone watching Dr. Strange MOM and then the lights in the theater turn on halfway through the film??? Lmfao how the fuck does that happen???

And finally a super unrelated story. When I was a young boy, my family took me to see Inside out, but when we got there it was fucking sold out. The solution? We decided to watch Jurassic World instead because we're already here, might as well pick a different film to see. I was way too young to understand jack fucking shit about Jurassic World, and I hadn't seen any of the previous films or anything, so imagine me at like. 9 or something (genuinely don't remember) watching an entire crew of people get brutally slaughtered and being purely confused. It's ok tho because it had cool dinosaurs and that was enough to please my younger self.

So yeah, dumb/horrific shit happening in theaters makes me laugh for absolutely no reason like. How do people fuck this up.]

Bro I’ve just woken up with the worst hangover of my life. Wanna know what I did last night? My brother and I got insanely drunk, like I am talking we consumed a foolish amount of alcohol. - Stardust (edit: just now realized you put this in the tags haha sorry!!)

- A Long Way Down (TW: Suicide is a huge theme of the movie, but it generally isn’t super sad?? if you want I can tell you whether it has a happy ending or not!!)

- Tuck Everlasting

- Zombieland (TW: I mean it’s a zombie movie so guns and blood and obvi zombies.)

- Warm Bodies (Think Romeo and Juliet but zombie and wholesome af)

- Hotel Transylvania (listen, the first one was good! 3rd and 4th not so much,,, but the first one and second one were pretty good. Really wholesome!)

- How to Train Your Dragon (all of them, tho they make me sad af)

- Matilda

- Madeline

- Flushed Away

- A Christmas Prince (ok listen,,, this is a very stupid romance movie. I still think it’s wholesome and a bit of a guilty pleasure lol)

- Monster House (A classic)

- Paranorman (if you like movies with Tim burton vibes,,,, yes)

- Coraline

- The Giver (listen I fully understand if people don’t like this movie but I think it’s underrated and has some good themes)

- The Old Guard (possibly some of the best gay representation I’ve ever seen,, really really good. It follows a group of immortals)

- Megamind

- Kate (it’s on Netflix and is an action movie)

- A Man Called Otto (ok,,, it’s really sad but also really wholesome. Big Found Family vibes and has a Trans Male character whom I love very much)

- The Meg (arguably the best shark movie I’ve seen. I normally don’t like shark movies cause it gives sharks a bad rap but this one is highkey really entertaining)

- Alita Battle Angel (VERY sci-fi)

- Earth Girls are Easy (possibly the weirdest movie on the list,,,, but damn if it isn’t funny. You can watch it free on YouTube I believe)

- Nanny McPhee (a childhood fav of mine)

- BOLT (listen this movie is top tier)

- What we do in the shadows (funny vampires) (also just realized you put this in the tags too ahh 😅)

- Strange Magic (The music is a little weird but it’s got a really good romance)

- Twitches (listen,,, these movies are dumb af and don’t make sense,,, but I still love them way too much lmfao)

- Newsies (the movie not the musical, tho I think the musical is good too? Never watched it)

- Greatest Showman

- Santa Clause movies (listen,,, they’re actually great ok)

- Narnia

- Sky High (pretty good themes, really stupid but I love it anyways)

- Halloweentown!!!
