Jaune Arc fell into ice. That's the last thing he remembered. Now he's in a strange grove with spirits watching him all the time.... He thinks they might be broken.

Team RWBY are faunas researchers who've found the discovery of the century. A human man still alive in ice. It's a contested theory that ancient humans eventually evolved into faunas and with a member of the previously thought extinct species they might just be able to prove it. Now how to get closer to him

Last Man Standing

The last thing Jaune remembered that cold winter evening was sulking across the ice to get away from his cheating ex-girlfriend. What was supposed to be a romantic night of welcoming in the new year instead became the worst heartbreak of his life, made worse when she called him out as a spineless nobody that no woman would ever want. She also said his hair looked shaggy, which didn't hurt as much as the betrayal itself, but it still stung.

Then everything got fast. Then everything got cold. And then everything got dark.

When he awoke, he took a deep breath through his nose, inhaling a sweet scent of strawberries. His eyes still shut; he leaned forward to get closer to the smell. This earned him a yelp, a slap, and a scream. As his eyes adjusted to the light, he saw a girl in a red hood running around the corner. Did she have dog ears?

"Where..." Jaune groaned as he leaned forward, noticing the hot air blowing over him. Though he was still partially frozen in ice, he managed to push his way through the, at best, hard slush of his cocoon. He looked down to see his clothes were soaked. "Ah, man..."

"I'm telling you, Weiss, I know what I saw!"

"Ruby Rose, the specimen has been frozen for at least a thousand years! Even if he did manage to thaw out, he wouldn't... be..."

The two young women stared at Jaune as he twisted his hoodie like a used dishrag, water spilling onto the floor. He turned and saw them, his eyes nearly as wide as theirs as they stared at one another.

For Jaune, he'd never seen anyone like them before! It was like something out of an anime. Two beautiful girls, one with pointed, dog-like ears, while the other had a long and bushy tail twitched back and forth. For them-

"CODE GRAY!" Screamed the tailed girl. She then rushed out of the room, dragging the other girl behind her. The dog-eared one glanced back with sort of sad eyes. None of it sounded good to Jaune, and considering the wailing sirens and flashing lights, he had to get out of wherever he is and fast!

Tossing on his still damp shirt, he made for the exit, accidentally knocking over a poor girl with rabbit ears. He gave a hasty apology as he continued to bolt down the hallway. Unfortunately, this caught more people's attention, and eventually a woman came barreling after him, hand on her beret to keep from flying off her small, round ears. He couldn't see much of her eyes past her designer shades, but what he could see spelled death.

"Incoming!" Jaune looked ahead, flipping backwards as his neck slammed into an extended arm. He gave a hoarse groan as he looked up to see three women towering over him. One was the same woman as before with round ears poking from her beret, the cute appearance contrasting with her snarling scowl. Another had gave a cheeky grin as she leaned forward a bit, showing off her cleavage to her catch, all the while a long, blonde tail swished about.

But the third and final woman gave no hint of any sort of emotion. Neither anger nor joy, but simple indifference. She reached behind her and pulled out a pair of handcuffs, tethered by a thick cable with glowing blue lights that ceased and revealed an opening with the click of a button. Her pointed, red dog-like ears made her look all the more intimidating.

"You're under arrest."

*Ruby and Weiss are trying on wedding dresses for a war of the roses wedding*

Ruby: That dress is cute on you.

Weiss: Well yes but is it cute enough to destroy his whole life?

Ruby: Aggressive…

Weiss: You know what I mean. He’s my man. I want to watch him cry. I want to make him think down is up and up is down.

Ruby: He’s also my man.

Weiss: You’re also mine. Not the same. *Examines herself in the mirror* I look good. But do I look good enough to make his head spin? It’s so hard because we’re already at an eight and we’re pushing for a nine.

Ruby: I don’t know…

Weiss: Too aggressive?

Ruby: No it would be too aggressive if you wanted to rip his heart out and make his eyes bleed. That would be too aggressive.

Ruby: I don’t know. Definitely go with a mermaid for your curves. You have great curves.

Weiss: Hand me another mermaid.

Ruby: *Hands her a dress off the rack*

Ruby: I like it.

Weiss: Me too. Your turn. Model for me.

(In Theodore’s office in Shade Academy at early evening, Team RWBY and Jaune Arc face the main members of the Remnant Alliance, consisting of Team JNPR plus Oscar Pine/Ozpin and Emerald Sustrai, Team STRQ, the Ace-Ops, the Happy Huntresses, Winter Schnee, Team SSSNN, Team CFVY, Whitley Schnee, Willow Schnee, Klein Sieben, Maria Calavera, Dr. Pietro Polendina, Ghira Belladonna, Kali Belladonna, Ilia Amitola, Bartholomew Oobleck, Peter Port, Glynda Goodwitch, Theodore, Xanthe Rumpole, and Zwei.)

RUBY: Listen. Thanks, everyone, for your patience.

RUBY: It took a while to figure out how to tell you, and I know being left in the dark about our whereabouts over the remainder of the winter, the whole spring, and the summer has left you anxious, but now, I’ve decided it’s time to reveal what’s been going on. Robyn, I’ll need your Semblance to prove all of this correct.

ROBYN: Uh, okay.

(Robyn steps away from the group, removes her glove, and joins hands with Ruby. Her Semblance turns on and glows green with every piece of information Ruby gives.)

ROBYN: So, you guys didn’t make it out of the pocket dimension before it collapsed. Where did you guys fall to?

RUBY: Well, after I fell, I regained consciousness on a beach surrounded by giant seashells. I tried to hone in on a giant tree, but just ended up looping in circles. Eventually, I had to stop, then found a mouse trying to pull a plant out of the ground. I pulled the plant, which turned out to be a cheese plant, out for the mouse, and fed it to them. After the mouse revealed that they could talk, I named them Little, and they decided to stay by my side as I tried to get home. Then we found Weiss and Blake captured in vines by a whole village of talking mice. It didn’t take much convincing to get them to let them go. Then we went to look for Yang and found a creepy Grimm-looking creature moving jerkily. And I mean very creepy. (IMITATING JABBERWALKER) “Stalking. Searching. Waiting. Listening.” (NORMAL VOICE) Then Yang came barreling out, already fighting the creature while missing her arm. Then Blake realized we were in our favorite childhood fairy tale, The Girl Who Fell Through the World.

(Confusion and wonder all around. “That fairy tale?” “The Ever After?” “It’s real?”)

OSCAR: That fairy tale actually happened? And the Ever After is real?

RUBY: Which means the creepy Grimm-like creature was the Jabberwalker from that story. Also, Weiss had a very hard time wrapping her head around the Ever After’s absurdities.

(Weiss blushes with embarrassment.)

WEISS: I did not.

RUBY: Our hands are glowing green, Weiss. Robyn’s Semblance never fails. Then we went to the village in the King’s Acre to barter with the Jinxy Peddler, who had stolen Yang’s arm. Well, they don’t “steal”, they just “take things others aren’t looking at”. Fair is fair, right, Little?

ROBYN: Sounds like a legitimate businessperson.

WEISS: Right?

EMERALD: So, what was the Jinxy Peddler like?

VELVET: Was he cute?

WEISS: Cute? He was adorable!

RUBY: And, despite being older than he was in the book, his strategy was the same, selling treasures that are really other items in disguise. If my memory serves me right, he had a yellow scepter, a pink rabbit statue, and a marionette-like doll. Toy soldiers won the scepter, and we only got it back from them because Little tried stealing the marionette, exposing Jinxy’s treasures as fakes. The rabbit statue was another mouse, the scepter was Yang’s arm, and the marionette was one of Penny’s Floating Array swords. The soldiers followed us to arrest us for stealing Yang’s arm, or “royal property”, before I traded Penny’s sword, and told them she was the greatest warrior to ever live. “She was touched by magic, and she gave her life for thousands. She took a message of hope to the stars, and she saw the world through better eyes.”

(The gang gets emotional, especially Winter and Pietro, who are comforted by their loved ones.)

RUBY: The soldiers escorted us to the Crimson Castle for the birthday of who we thought was the Red King, but turned out to be the Red Prince, who was more of a spoiled brat than Weiss was at Beacon.

YANG: (nudging Weiss) Heh-heh.

RUBY: We challenged him to a game of chess, where he shrunk the girls to the size of chess pawns. Not that it hindered their performance against the Prince’s pawns. When we revealed that we’re humans and beat him, he threw a tantrum and wanted us beheaded, and the Curious Cat rescued us.

(More interested chatter. Nora Valkyrie gets giddy.)

NORA: The Curious Cat?!

REN: Were they as chatty as the book made them out to be?

RUBY: Mm-hm. Not to mention easily distracted. Anyway, they took us to look for ingredients for a Growgurt Parfait in the Garden’s Acre, and we told them our life story, but because we kept getting distracted with our internal conflicts, we kept losing them over and over again. After the third time, when they asked me how I’m supposed to save the world now that Salem has two out of four Relics and that Atlas is gone, we met an herbalist, a caterpillar named Herb. He seemed to be asking us questions to figure out what medicine he needed to make to help us. Looking back, he was being reasonable, as too little medicine is useless, but too much medicine is toxic. Eventually, Herb just decided to smoke a hookah for a bit and drugged us with leaves that made us see our past selves tempting us to “go back”. To be free. To be simple. To be whole. To be different. The other girls rejected and had already accepted their failures as something to learn from, but I almost gave in, before the Cat stopped me, then got Herb swallowed by a hole in the ground.

(The gang chatters in moods ranging from confusion to nervousness.)

TAI: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Back up. You guys did drugs?

QROW: Don’t let alcoholism be next, girls.

RUBY: Anyway, the Cat led us to a market to keep looking for the Parfait ingredients. Along the way, they told us about a process that occurs when an Afteran is no longer doing their assigned role, triggered by them losing their ways, wearing out, doubting themselves, or even just finishing their assigned tasks, upon which they are taken to the Great Tree and repurposed into someone or something else with a new identity, personality, and role. Their memories are erased in the process, but the heart very rarely forgets. They don’t die. They ascend.

(Such a concept catches the interest of the gang.)

REMNANT ALLIANCE: Ooh.

EMERALD: Talk about a potential existential crisis.

RUBY: Hence why there was no Red King when we got to the Castle. He lost his game and ascended into the brat we encountered. And the hole that swallowed Herb was him starting his own Ascension. Anyway, after we arrived at the market and got all of the Parfait ingredients, the market was attacked by Jabberwalkers using Neopolitan’s Semblance. Oh, yeah, Neopolitan fell with us, too.

(Nora, Ren, Oscar, and Emerald grow worried.)

REN: Uh-oh.

TAI: Neopolitan? Who’s that?

RUBY: Remember Roman Torchwick, the criminal from Vale? Neo was his partner. She held me responsible for his death at the Fall of Beacon and wanted me dead to avenge him. She expressed herself through gestures and facial expressions because she couldn’t talk.

RAVEN: Was she that chick I saved Yang from on the train on Mountain Glenn?

RUBY: Yep. Then I disposed of her by opening her umbrella on an Atlas airship in the sky during the Fall of Beacon. Apparently she survived that fall without any of those Grimm surrounding us eating her.

OSCAR: Team JNPR and I last fought her right after Ironwood declared us fugitives.

RUBY: Then she fought us in the pocket dimension between here and Solitas. Heck, she was the reason Yang, Blake, and I fell. Anyway, we made the Growgurt Parfait and the girls grew back to normal size just as we got assistance from the Rusted Knight riding his white rabbit.

WHITLEY: Did Weiss go goo-goo eyes the second she laid eyes on him? She had a crush on him when she was younger.

BLAKE: I think everyone had a crush on the Rusted Knight at some point.

RUBY: Well, things didn’t help when he turned out to be a grown-up Jaune with longer hair and a beard, who grabbed a fruit that sent him back in time twenty years right after he landed.

(The gang gasps at the new knowledge of the Rusted Knight being not only Jaune, of all people, but Jaune thrown backwards in time, grown older, and living without his friends for so long.)

NORA: Oh, my Gods!

REN: Jaune, that really happened to you?

JAUNE: I was stuck there isolated from other human contact, too.

YANG: Weiss certainly loved how mature he was.

RUBY: And the white rabbit was a jackalope Jaune named Juniper.

NORA: After his team? Aww!

RUBY: Then Jaune told us his perspective on the Tree, that he believed it was death, that Alyx backstabbed her brother Lewis, the author of the fairy tale, who wrote the story the way he wished it happened, and that the Cat couldn’t be trusted. Before long, we got caught in a “punderstorm”, which creates a physical manifestation of a mental or emotional problem. Jaune, Weiss, Juniper, and I were sent to metaphorical and literal crossroads, while Yang and Blake were sent to two broken, wooden, rickety bridges connected to a giant pillar that they could only make more planks to advance toward if they were honest about their feelings for each other. Yeah, Yang and Blake are girlfriends now.

(As Yang and Blake blush at each other, everyone’s hearts melt, all proud for the Bees.)

REMNANT ALLIANCE: Aww!

NORA: See, Ren? I told you there was more going on!

KALI: Our baby girl found love?

TAI: With my sunny little dragon?

RAVEN: Wow. She really is your daughter, Tai.

TAI: What’s that supposed to mean?

RAVEN: A tall overconfident blonde flinging dad jokes and puns and a brooding dark-haired beauty? A tale as old as time.

RUBY: Then the Cat bailed on us after mistaking us for selfishly using them to get home, and once the storm passed, Jaune let us spend the night in his house in the Origami Acre, then he introduced us the next morning to a village of paper stars called the Paper Pleasers. They seemed very dumb and clumsy at first, because of the daily disasters they were causing, but, at the end of the day, were very hospitable. He also named them after all of us. On his to-do list, I saw Ren, Ruby, Oscar, Nora, Neptune, and Pyrrha.

(Not a word is spoken as everyone exchanges concerned and uncomfortable looks with each other.)

RUBY: Anyway, a Paper Pleaser told us they kept causing disasters because they wanted to ascend, because their purpose was long since finished, but Jaune was stopping them because of his belief that the tree was death. They told us that the Tree isn’t death, but resurrection, rebuilding, and rebirth.

JAUNE: That must have been our waiter, the Blake Paper Pleaser.

RUBY: Then Neo’s Jabberwalkers attacked, and while we were distracted, the Paper Pleasers finally managed to off themselves by destroying the koi pond dam and drowning in the flood, then when the girls asked me to help comfort Jaune, I blew up at them for caring more about everyone else’s feelings or getting home, taking my mental health for granted and ignoring my problems…

(Everyone leans in anxiously. Things are getting even more interesting, but not in a good way.)

(Weiss, Blake, Yang, and Jaune exchange looks of guilt.)

RUBY: …then I ran away, came across the Abandoned Acre, and entered a mansion, where Neo had made clone illusions of Roman Torchwick, Penny, Pyrrha, Professor Lionheart, Clover, Ozpin, and Ironwood, and used them to physically and psychologically abuse me, beating me up ruthlessly and blaming me for their deaths, and when the chaos was over, I felt no will to live or be myself anymore, not helped by Torchwick’s question: “Do you really think you can stand to watch more of your friends fall? Or are you ready to admit the truth, that the world would just be better off without you?”

(The gang regards Ruby with sorrow over her being trampled by her trauma. Ozpin can be heard sniffling.)

RUBY: Then Neo offered me tea made from leaves from the Tree intended to wipe me from existence. The Cat blasted her away, but then turned out to be evil and tried to possess me, while revealing that they had been trying to wear me down the whole time, then Neo fought them off and stomped Little to death, then I finally gave in, drank the tea, offing myself, and got swallowed by the Tree.

YANG: (tearing up) Oh, Rubes.

RUBY: Then I met a Blacksmith, who I also found at the market, or, rather, she found me, and then she presented me with a choice to either change my identity or be myself. I saw my mom’s weapon and was treated to a vision of the night she left with Raven on another one of Ozpin’s secret missions and never came back.

(Tai turns accusingly at Raven.)

TAI: Raven?

YANG: She lied? She left with you?

RAVEN: Yeah… Hey, like I said to her, “First time for everything.”

(The gang gives her a look.)

RAVEN: Really? Sheesh. Tough crowd.

HARE: (to Ruby) Wait. What did you say your mother’s name was again?

RUBY: Summer.

HARE: (muttering) So, her uncle is Qrow, her father is Taiyang, and her sister’s mother is Raven. All are members of Team STRQ. Summer, Summer, Summer… (out loud) Summer Rose, the leader of Team STRQ, was your mother?

REMNANT ALLIANCE: (walla) Summer?…Summer Rose?…The previous silver-eyed Huntress?…That’s Summer Rose’s daughter?

RUBY: And then, I remembered my mom’s words, “I love you just the way you are,” chose to be myself, and came back to help the girls fight the Cat. And we won.

(Cheers and applause all around.)

RUBY: And then Neo killed the Cat by using the Jabberwalkers to eat them. By the way, Jabberwalkers are the only creatures to prevent Ascension if they eat Afterans.

BLAKE: On my count, there were a whopping five of them.

REMNANT ALLIANCE: (walla) Five?…Five of them?…Five Jabberwalkers?

SUN: Talk about overkill.

ELM: (after doing the multiplication math in her head) That’s gotta be over ninety teeth!

RUBY: And, according to the girls, Neo was possessed by the Cat, and she chose to accept Torchwick’s death and undergo her own Ascension. Oh, and Little ascended, too, into who we called Somewhat, and succeeded Jaune as the protector of the Ever After. By then, we had made it to the Tree by coming to terms with the truth, we’ll never be perfect, that even the most skilled Huntsmen and Huntresses have failed, and we walked through the door back home, landed inside the plane of the Tree, and met the Blacksmith again at her workshop. When we noticed two statues of the Brother Gods, she told us their backstory. That the Ever After was overfilled with plants and dangerous wildlife in its primordial years, but the Brothers were created to clear it out. Then they created the Afterans as well as the different acres for them to live in. They designed new creations that would replace them in maintaining the Ever After. This was how the Cat was created. They later created the Jabberwalker as a form of destruction. However, the two disagreed on whether it disrupted the balance or not and began to wage war.

OSCAR AND OZPIN: (both scoff) What else is new?

RUBY: The Blacksmith told us how balance isn’t supposed to be two opposing forces locked in battle; balance is an ecosystem, an organism, and a living thing, thus balance isn’t restored with force or manipulation, it’s restored naturally, requiring love and patience to see it through to the end. The Gods got to Remnant because the Ever After created a door to a “greater beyond” for them, so they can leave and experiment in creating new worlds as much as they like.

REN: Huh. So the Ever After existed before Remnant.

NORA: (snickering) So the Tree basically said, “You think you have life sorted out? Then get out of my house”?

RUBY: Pretty much.

(Everyone laughs at the Brother Gods basically being “kicked out of the house” by their “mom”. Some Gods they are.)

YANG: Oh, my Gods, that’s such a hilarious way of looking at it. Thanks, Nora.

RUBY: Anyway, the Blacksmith told us that we impacted the Ever After significantly, just like Somewhat, Alyx, and Lewis, and that the Cat caused a bad impact. Then she de-aged Jaune, but let him keep his memories, which explains the white streak in his hair, and made us a portal in the desert on the outskirts of the city, and now you’re all caught up.

(Ruby lets go of Robyn’s hand. The freedom fighter rejoins the rest of the Alliance.)

RUBY: So, I’m happy to announce that I’m not giving up the fight to save the world anytime soon! Between Academies and Kingdoms going down and our friends’ lives being forced to abruptly end, we’ve had a lot of ups and downs over the past two years, but we always pulled ourselves back together at the end of the day, and we won’t stop now! With global unity right at our fingertips and the ability to keep moving forward and accept our failures as things to learn from, things the villains would never even fathom, we can stand up to Salem and her forces! And no longer will we be putting the entire burden of the world’s safety on one individual! My name is Ruby Rose, and I am a Huntress!

REMNANT ALLIANCE: (walla) Yes!…Great!…Alright!…Thank goodness!…Welcome back, Ruby!…Good to have you back, kid!…Way to go, Ruby!…That’s my girl!

YANG: We’re so proud of you, Ruby.

RUBY: Thanks, guys. You and your support mean the world to me. And I’m just as proud to call you guys family. All of you.

(Everyone looks at Ruby with warmed hearts.)

Not a single track I don't love. Forever iconic, each and every one.

Ignite is my favorite Yang song, as is Path to Isolation for Weiss. Smile is such a tragic song of showing Ilia's parents telling her to cope by smiling, by hiding, to the present where it's twisted into an angry mantra and she's still hiding who she is in a different way. The Triumph feels like such a comeback song with how high energy it is, all our girls heading back to each other, jumping back into the fray. All that Matters is PEAK bumbleby pining angst song. All Things Must Die is glorious, and tbh I think even This Time is pretty underrated as a song for Blake/the White Fang.

I find myself relistening to this one a lot. Trust Love is my favorite OP (and yes that is in part the refrences to the Little Prince I can draw). I also like Touch the Sky and Brand New Day as these kind of recovery songs for all the characters that had been at their lowest or feeling lost finding their hope and confidence, happy in themselves. Let's get Real is a song that DID get me into Renora a little, it's a bop. Was over the moon to have an Oscar song in Fear that encapsulated the theme of the volume and complimented Ozpin's fear speech. Hero makes my brain go AAAAHHHH at how it captures the hubris of Ironwood. Such a great tragic downfall song for his character. Until the End is a great listen and such a lovely surprise to have a Ruby song after so long. War is a certified banger and a great song for the RWBY vs Ace Ops fight.

In fairness I don't think I've listened to this one enough, but the more I do it definitely grows on me. Inside feels like the most unique OP, Checkmate is catchy as hell, Trapdoor makes me INSANE as a Ruby spiralling song. Pleasantly surprised to have a Jaune song in Quiet that's very moving. Worthy is beautiful as a Bumbleby confession/kiss song, truly magical. As a whole I feel the songs lean into being more gentle and introspective as to the usual hardcore rock ballads we know RWBY for, even Checkmate with it's jazziness feels fresh and new. I haven't actually listened to the Edge or Guide my Way enough to have an opinion on them, but I remember liking them, Guide my Way is a nice continuation and evolution of the Red like Roses song trilogy.

When it Falls is SO HARDCORE. Bleeding edge and tragedy for the death and destruction to come. I'm the One is fantastic at laying out Emerald and Mercury's trauma's and subsequently coping mechanisms. Neon is one I like to listen to a lot, it's so fun and upbeat. Divide is brutal and chilling as the song to introduce us to our main villain after seeing her for the first time in all her dark glory at the end of V3. Not Fall in Love with You is... eh. It's my Turn is a good Weiss song, but it's not one if my favorites.

I really like Rising as an OP, it feels the most... magical? fantastical? idk. I like the vibes. Indomitable is what I feel like singing all the time in wake of the recent RWBY news! We really are indomitable! Nevermore as a true triumph over Blake and Yang's trauma at Adam's hands, while acknowledging the tragedy of Adam's own situation. And Big Metal Shoe is a certified banger, love all the fairytale references crammed in there. Miracle is... fine. One Thing is a great song for Neo's return and revenge quest, but I never bought into the Neo hype so I'm kinda mid on it too.

V2. SACRIFICE I LOVE YOU FOREVER AND EVER PLEASE REPRISE IN THE SHOW LATER WITH CINDER PRETTY PLEASE. Now it's Time to Say Goodbye is an incredible banger of an OP, but it felt a little misleading considering it's a song all about losing innocence and leaving behind childhood, which feels more appropriate for V3 and the FoB than V2. Shine, Dream Come True and Boop are all fun and cute but I'm not hugely into Arkos or Renora so I'm kinda neutral on them. I'm also kind of mid on Time to Die as a song.

V8. Honestly this is just the soundtrack I find myself listening to or remembering the least, even though I really like Friend as the perfect Penny song that had me tearing up, and Truth, while short was a great bittersweet song for Cinder. And it was nice to get a Nora song too. The opening for this volume never really grew on me like all the others did (aside from the "some ROSES WILL NEVER BLOOM, SOME HEROES CHOOSE THE WRONG SIDE"). I also just associate this soundtrack with fandom arguing a lot about what song applied to who and it felt exhausting.

20. What are you looking forward to seeing in Vacuo?

*vibrating at a frequency unknown to man* idk I think a reunion hug between Ruby and Oscar would be neat maybe. Like @aspoonofsugar has pointed out all the set up at the end of the extended epilogue points to these two having a second alchemical wedding and so their relationship having a certain amount of focus/development in Vacuo seems apparent. After so long of not seeing them onscreen together I'm excited for any interactions honestly. I miss my kids.

Wanting to see WBY all trying to support Ruby more and her actively trying but still struggling to open about how she's feeling. More of what see saw with Ruby/Yang in the Boba episode. I'd especially like Ruby and Weiss to have a heart to heart.

Very curious about what Theodore is gonna be like and whoever the hell the Summer maiden. With the Dorothy allusions and those who've lost their homes trying to make one in Vacuo, I'm expecting an exploration of "there's no place like home" to be leant into.

RAVEN. TELL US WHAT HAPPENED ON THAT MISSION WITH YOU AND SUMMER. RUBY AND YANG DESERVE TO KNOW. For real though I'm hoping we see what lead Raven to rejoin the fray too, and how she'll interact with Yang and Qrow and even Ruby, what tension might be there. Delicious family drama....

Speaking of delicious family drama, the Schnees! all reunited! I want Winter and Whitley to tackle hug Weiss to the ground! Also the Schnees appear to be being confronted with all the harm their family and company has done in a kingdom like Vacuo, so I'm curious to see how Weiss handles that. Also Winter is clearly Not Doing Good, so something I'd really like is if Weiss (as her sister) and Ruby (as a friend of Penny and someone she also offered the maiden powers too) and maybe Jaune (who was there with Penny in her final moments) offer comfort to her and they all grieve together.

Emerald. Honestly suprised we didn't get much of a sense of how she was doing in the extended epilogue, not even briefly like Mercury. But I'm super excited for what her arc holds. Seeing her integrate with the group, if Ren, Nora and Oscar are already on friendly terms with her but RWBY are all still a bit wary of her because they've spent less time together. Seeing more of her friendship with Oscar develop (gimme that Little Prince/Fox allusion with their friendship in taming each other pretty please) and like. Mercury. Emerald KNEW Mercury and Tyrian were being sent to Vacuo, she saw him off in the ship, but Ren seems suprised to see him and Tyrian on the cameras in the epilogue. Did Emerald... not tell them? Even though that's incredibly important information that could help her new allies? Because... she wanted to protect Mercury? Because she still feels conflicted? It's incredibly juicy and I can't wait to see how Emerald and Mercury's relationship comes into conflict during the Vacuo arc. Gimme that Emercury angst pretty please.

Vacuo in general. By virtue of the books I think they have the most interesting world building, the food, the culture, the different words for weather phenomenon, the fauna, the nomadic tribes, the history of being a once incredibly beautiful oasis full of everything they needed, then exploited time and again and left with nothing and yet still surviving and carving a home and life for themselves. The world building of Vacuo is one that is inevitably tied to the story because of their fraught history leading to tensions between them and all the refugees from Atlas, Mantle and Vale seeking their aid and shelter in their kingdom, not to mention the Crown seeking to restore the monarchy, it'd be easy for them to be divided and conquered by Salem, and so our heroes have to find a way to overcome that and bring everyone together. So just getting to see the kingdom animated and learn more about its history and culture would be cool. I also like desert punk aesthetic, so I'm hoping whatever new outfits our girls get will have a little of that. (part of me hopes for maybe some Trigun inspiration... we've had Gurren Laggan inspiration in Yang's outfits before!)

I would also say I'm looking forward to seeing my darling cringefail wife Cinder but I don't know if she'll be in Vacuo or with Salem in Vale wrecking shit.

27. Favorite voice performance?

AARON DISMUKE AS OSCAR HANDS DOWN. Him being the VA for Oscar meant I was destined to like him, I usually do with characters he voices. The fact he has to also voice Oscar when controlled by Ozpin, and sometimes Oscar pretending to be Ozpin, and completely nails the subtle differences in all of them is phenomenal. And as the merge progresses he's literally having to mix and merge their voices together too!!! It's crazy!!! The awkward and shy intonation becoming a more sincere and quiet confident voice as Oscar develops, and gaining Oz's mannerisms in speech with a deeper and more serious tone. That is some crazy talent this man has.

Always impressed with how well Linsay Jones and Miles Luna hold up in earlier volumes, they've consistently been the best voice performances from start to present. Also Cherami Leigh as Ilia is absolutely fantastic, it's rare I've heard her get to flex her emotional range like that in her voice work for such a complex character.

28. Fairytale character you'd want to see RWBYfied?

With how character songs are a big thing in the show and semblances that can hypnotize and mind control exist, and instruments sometimes being weapons (gestures to Flynt), I'd love an allusion to The Pied Piper or the Lorelai Siren as a villain of some kind. Bonus if you had a Little Mermaid/Lorelai Siren allusion for that victim/monster/hero duality RWBY likes to play with.

Not technically a traditional fairytale but also very much one, the Last Unicorn, one of my alltime favorite books would be beyond amazing to be alluded to, even a tiny bit. Amalthea the unicorn being the last of her kind, the rest hunted down by a wicked beast at the order of a tyrant. She is associated with silver, the moon, hope and purity constantly. A story that is both a love letter and deconstruction of fairytales, an exploration of the nature of humanity and mortality. Tell me that wouldn't be perfect as an allusion to a Silver Eyed Warrior (also thought to be a myth) trying to find out what happened to the rest of her kind.

Quick thoughts on two person ships that I've seen in the fics I like or read fics for in both HP and RWBY

Percy x Penelope: I like it it's cute. Ginny catching them snogging would probably have a greater impact on canon if Penny was someone the Weasleys had a vocal opinion of.

Percy x Audrey: It's cute in fanfic. In canon though, it suffers from the thing of canon Audrey is just a name.

Percy x Oliver: This fits into so many of my favourite tropes, it's kind of hilarious. I think this was my first Percy ship.

Percy x Marcus: Character I love shipped with a charater that absolutely would go to hell and back for the other is probably the quickest way to get me to ship two characters and Flintley isn't any different. This is my favourite Percy two person ship, hands down

Percy x Anyone in Harry's year or Ginny's year: Not getting into specific ships because this is the most common theme of Percy ships that I end up filtering out. Personally, I only see it happening post second wizarding war after both members have left Hogwarts, and I have to be in a really specific mood to read fics for these types of ships. However, depending on who Percy is shipped with, it can be cute

Penelope x Audrey: I love these two together in fanfic and I love the versatility. If you thought Perciver fit a lot of tropes, then this ship can fit more because again canon Audrey is just a name.

Penelope x Fred: I think my enjoyment of this ship heavily depends on how Fred is characterized. These two in a ship read to me as Bookworm x Prankster, and I'm really not a fan of that trope. It absolutely doesn't help that the twins are tied for my least favourite (I don't hate them but I like the other siblings better) of the book Wesley children.

Oliver x Marcus: I like the ship, and I think it's a good rivals to lovers ship. I'm pretty sure the only reason I've dropped a FlintWood fic is because I didn't vibe with the non-Flintwood ships in the fic

Ruby x Weiss: White Rose I think is partly as popular as it is because of the thing of pair off the spares. However, unlike a lot of couples I've seen with that thing, their canon interactions are pretty cute. On the other hand, their canon status of getting partnered during initiation does help their cause.

Ruby x Blake: I know I've said it for basically most of the other ships on the list but it's cute. I think I got into this ship with either a Team RWBY poly fic or a Beauty and the Beast retelling that used Ladybug

Ruby x Jaune: I like their friendship and I think a romantic relationship would be fine. I don't really ship it myself but I can see the appeal.

Weiss x Blake: I like it. However, I think it would be better in the later seasons rather than when they were in Beacon.

Weiss x Yang: Freezerburn, my beloved. I know with recent events, it's absolutely not going to be canon, but imma just vibe with their dynamic with fanfic

Weiss x Pyrrha: I think this is my favourite Weiss ship. There's a possibility of one-sided rivalry to lovers while in Beacon, and I think that's my favourite trope the ship could fall into

Weiss x Jaune: Personally prefer a friendship between the two but the volume 9 white knight moments were cute

Blake x Yang: It's cute. I'm glad they got made canon, and I want to see more cute canon moments between the two if the show does somehow get another volume. In the meantime, I will be chilling with fanfic.

some ideas i have for my rewritten version of RWBY MAIDENS Maidens can only control environments and the weather. Also they can change their surroundings, from a high tech hallway to a red maple forest (like an illusion). (so no sword making or whatever just purely environmental) - team rwby becoming the Maidens a. Ruby becomes the Spring maiden (can control flora and wind) b. Weiss becomes the Winter maiden (can create snow storms and ice powers) c. Blake becomes the Fall maiden (tornados and clouds/rain) d. Yang becomes the Summer maiden (heatwaves and thunderstorms) Maidens can used their combined powers to make combos, Fall and Winter making it hail or Fall and Summer making a dessert storm. YANG Technically she shouldve graduated at this point, however she chooses not to, after finding out that Oz invited Ruby (15) to train at Beacon Academy, she managed to convince Oz to let her redo her senior year at the academy to support Ruby. JAUNE the Jaune we know will be put in the bully team from the 1st vol, my version would be more of an androgynous-femme presenting guy BLAKE & RUBY they can make their own little book club :) BLAKE & WEISS I think Blake would stand up for Weiss (and the other way around), especially if Jacques would come to visit Beacon, after finding out that Weiss went to Beacon instead of Atlas Academy. Before Jacques would be able to hit Weiss, Blake would step in and put him in hsi place. ADAM (vs YANG & BLAKE) Making him more obsessive and weird by wearing Blake's tail (which he cut of before she escaped) as a belt. Also making him more Bull than original, because to this day i still dont see what makes him a Faunus. Like the black colored horns are cute but those can be easily mistaken for colored hair. Fall of Beacon (Adam vs Yang & Blake Round 1) Same story but instead of Yang immediately being defeated after getting her arm cut off, she powers through and uses her firey semblance the stop the bleeding in her arm, while Blake keeps up the good fight. After the bleeding stops Yang steps back into the ring to give Adam a burn scar. After losing too much blood Yang caves in while tries to keep her on her feet. Adam also takes Yangs severed arm Comm Tower (Adam vs Yang & Blake Round 2) Adam teases Yang by throwing her severed arm at her, but shrugs it off and tells him he can keep it. QROW & RAVEN Instead of turning into normal looking Ravens/Crows, they turn into a Nevermore look alike. Originally a power given by Oz, now turned curse by Salem. Both Qrow and Raven now constantly have to fight for control with their Grimm halves. Qrow has partially given up, hence the drinking, so his hands look like bird claws and his body is covered in feathers. Raven keeps her distance to avoid hurting anyone. Unbeknownst to them Salem is using their eyes to spy on Oz. SALEM/White Fang im not sure of this idea but instead of the White Fang (which will be renamed to something else) being a equal rights group, they're followers of Salem, the False Goddess, who gives promises that by serving her, they can save their world/make their world better. And that the Grimm exist to ''get rid of the bad people/sinners'' However i think there is a sort of White Fang group but only in Atlas where the most hate crimes, slavery and discrimination happens. As SDC and other companies in Atlas use Faunus for entertainment (for example Bull fighting for Adam) or for slavery. Yes that would imply that Blake was once a follower of Salem's, but turned around after the train incident. TEAM STRQ this might be the worst idea but hear me out. Team STRQ was a polyamorous quad. (in this version Raven and Qrow are >NOT< related) After Summer's death (at assuming Salem's hand), there was a lot of trust issues after, considering neither Qrow nor Raven told Tai what actually happened, and they slowly drifted apart but they all stayed in touch or checked up on the kids and Tai, Qrow would visit more often, while Raven stayed away for their (R&Y) safety. Raven and Qrow keep butting heads cuz they blame eachother for Summer's death/not saving her, but deep down they still care for eachother. Both Ruby and Yang are their kids (its Remnant they can like make kids in a tube or something). Yang has Qrow's alcohol problems (they sometimes drink together) Ruby has or had Raven's selflessness well thats all the ideas i have, nothing solid, just seeing what sticks to the wall. Admittedly the STRQ one might be a bit out there, considering Qrow and Raven are well known as siblings, and yes its weird as fuck idea to have them being/or were together as a couple. But if you remove the context of them being siblings, and see them having arguments, they argue as if they're a divorced couple. Also Qrow is more of a dad than Tai, protecting the gang when they're going on a trip, when Ruby is 15-16 yrs old (in the actual show). And generally being there for the gang. Even before Vol 4 Tai didnt even visit once, but was able to send Zwei. Qrow stayed the whole time, hanging out with Ruby and Yang but i dont remember in vol 1-3 Ruby or Yang ever calling Tai, y'know their dad? But again these are all ideas, nothing solid, just me rambling about RWBY stuff, uh uhm.... are these good ideas? most likely not feedback and criticism is appreciated :) my team rwby redesign v

I watched the movie last night after already staying up late playing Baldur's Gate 3 so work is going to suck today lmao

And Yang was so good!!! I already had high hopes for her after seeing that clip of her in serious big sister mode, but they really exceeded my expectations. It's clear without actually saying it that she's absolutely fucking haunted by almost losing Ruby in the Ever After and she's making an active effort to communicate her concerns to Ruby. I loved her starting to lose her temper during their argument and Blake putting a hand on her shoulder and grounding her so she could express herself more calmly. The silent support from the girlfriend!!!

Also, she got the best outfit, I love it.

I feel like Blake didn't get to do much, but I did love her being the one to talk to possessed Yang and being like "Did you really think you could fool me into thinking you're my girlfriend?"

The Bee kiss in the background of the picture at the end was sooooo cute, what the fuck??

Ruby's arc in the movie is one of those things that's like. I wonder how this is going to feel once we get volume 10 and this is something that ostensibly happens in the middle of it. Same with Weiss kind of coming to terms with Atlas's destruction. I guess I'm just curious whether they're writing volume 10 with the movie in mind. I'd honestly rather they didn't, probably lmao.

Just fucking murder me with "I'm not mom. I'm not Raven." Especially after volume 9. I don't know if I'm meant to reconcile "I'm not Raven" with Raven bringing them to Vacuo in the cut epilogue though. I mean, I guess it's not that hard to reconcile considering Raven coming back then wouldn't negate the years of trauma her leaving cause. I just want to know if Raven getting them is still canon even if the epilogue was cut!!!!

And Yang being reflected in Ruby's eye during that fucked me up a little. You just know they already decided to have Ruby reflected in Yang's eye in volume 9 by that point, so they knew what they were doing!!!

When Weiss left the room and no one followed her to talk to her I was like. 😭 Y'all, please. After what we went through in the Ever After? I know it's because they wanted her to have a call with Klein, but I was still like. Nooooo.

Also, I loved that Yang was the one arguing they needed to rest and Blake seemed to agree with her while Ruby and Weiss were both like "No????" Different traumas and all. And clearly only one half of this team experienced Burning the Candle.

Shadow Knight, and Girls of Light Chp II

Beacon Upper Vale High School was in chaos, to say the least.

Ruby Rose, the unofficial mascot of the school, had dragged Jaune Arc, the semi-official public image of terror (As he was voted in a online poll by the students and teachers, not that Jaune knew), to her friends table during free period.

It should not go unstated about how clashing this image was.

Ruby Rose, adorable, short, shy, but bursting with life and cheerfulness. There was not a room that did not rise in happiness simply from being there.

She may be shy, but that did not stop her from raising to the top of the schools track and field team, and could be unstoppable excited and talkative once her interests were brought up.

She had was also very, very cute, and glowed with health, with a certain contradictory cuteness, of being both sporty, shy, and gothic in the way she dressed, making it no wonder she was one of the most desirable girls in the school.

Ruby also had a very beautiful sister, Yang, and very beautiful friends. Her mother was also very well liked as a teacher, and her father was a very well-respected member of the community, and taught self-defense.

She did well in class, took good notes, was helpful to everyone and anyone. There was nobody in the school who could think of a meaningful insult against the small girl. Both faculty and students loved her being here.

Jaune Arc, intimidating, looming, suffocating, and looking at him for too long was like putting a razor blade to one eyes. Simply being in the same room as him put one at risk of losing minutes off they're life-span due to the sheer stress of his presence.

He was quiet, and dressed like a bum in dirty, greasy, and torn clothes. He made no effort to talk to anyone, was in a perpetual state of sleeping in the corner of the room, and ignored anyone that wasn't Lie Ren or, Nora Valkyrie (Even then, from a outsider's perspective he didn't even seem to acknowledge them half the time).

He remained just a hair above flunking out of school, or being expelled, with a sudden history of violence that appeared just into his sophomore year, attacking his long time bully with a brutality that was expected from death-row prisoner, not a regular schoolboy. When Cardin returned the favor, it resulted in one of the biggest incidents in the schools history.

Any friends Jaune had before then went up in smoke, beside Lie Ren and Nora Valkyrie, and theory's ran wild as to what had changed the formerly nice and sweet, if clumsy boy who asked Weiss Schnee out with a guitar in junior high.

His new appearance hadn't helped either, as stated his clothes are mess, but so is the rest of him. His skin looked so pale that it was almost chalky white, his eyes had perpetually dark purple-black bags, eyes bloodshot, hair uncut, messy, and tangled, he looked like a dead man walking half the time, and there was tangible fear in the air around that he might drop dead any moment. He had also bulked up considerably looking like he could drop a grown bull with a punch, and grown closer to six and half feet then just six foot.

Theory's ran wild when he wasn't around, with all kind of ideas to what made him this way. From getting hooked on drugs and steroids, to having developed a fatal disease and this was his way of rebelling against society in his final days, to being a secret agents, or even him fighting a one-man shadow war against some ancient evil.

The last one was a lot peoples favorites, including Nora, though considering Nora was rumor-mill it's entirely possible she was the one who made up to get him some good publicity.

Thus, when the 5'4 girl was enthusiastically pulling the hand of the pale 6'4 giant, who seemed half-asleep and moving like a glacier, to the table of the most desirable girls in the school, it created shock-waves through the rumor mill.

Jaune felt the tension in the air as hundreds of pairs of eyes stalked him. He kept his head up though, his shoulders wide, and steps confident, like he belonged here. Even if he didn't, but he wasn't about to show any weakness.

Still, he really didn't want to be here. Truthfully, he thought about just brushing Ruby off and just going to take a nap somewhere. But, somewhere inside him, there was a vulnerable part of him that thought it might be fun to hang out with her.

He scowled at the unbidden thought, that was naive and childish to think. He didn't have the luxury to play teenager with her. He looked down at her little hand that was nearly hidden under his, he could break it so easily, like breathing.

A cold-shock went through him, what was he thinking? Where had that come from? Unforunately, these thoughts were becoming more frequent over the past year. It seemed his lifestyle of nightly death-battles was not good for his mental health, who could have guessed.

All the more reason to ditch her, the last thing he needed was to accidentally hurt a good person like Ruby. He who fights monsters and all that.

"And here, we are!" What? How'd they get here so fast, and where had they been going? "Ladies, introducing my new bff, Jaune Arc!" Jaune suddenly realized he was standing in front of the most valued girls in the school.

Crap. This was the last thing he wanted.

Ruby who was holding his hand, which he tried to slide away from, but she had a surprising strong grip.

A white-haired girl looked at him coldly.

"Weiss Schnee, charmed."

Just looking at her brought back embarrassing memories. Not that he thought for a second that she would remember him, Weiss was the heiress of the Schnee fortune, and a budding musical diva.

She also topped the charts of the schools grades, and might actually be a genius.

"Same." Jaune muttered tiredly, which bought him a sharp stared from her.

What did she expect him to make a effort, with that attitude? Ha. No. Any feelings he had toward romance died when he saw the true danger of the dark. How could hold a love together, when Jaune barely kept his body together. He almost scowled as he felt his stitch burn.

"Yo, it's the big bad boy of Beacon!" The blonde of the table smiled at him like a old-friend, which was weird since Jaune couldn't even remember being in the same room as her for more than five seconds. "Yang Xiao-Long, this brats cool older sis!"

That she is. The blonde bombshell of the school with the only thing matching her heat is her temper, the amount of guys that had been nut-checked by her was nearly triple digits. Which wasn't helped by her being the champion of the girls boxing team.

"Yang!" He heard Ruby say, but Jaune paid her little mind, as the blonds eyes made contact with him, and Jaune saw through her act, there was no warmth in them. She did not like him, and taking a guess, she didn't want him around her sister. That was fine, he wasn't sticking around.

He also realized he was in striking range of her, and angled his pelvis away from any 'accidental' nut checks.

She noticed him noticing, and her eyes expressed disappointment.

"Cool. I got sisters too." Jaune said offhandedly. "Parents too." She waited for a second to seem if he had anything else to say.

"Yeah, uh, most people do." She added lamely.

"Not everyone, though." He added, thinking of Nora who lived with foster parents.

"Yeah, that's true. Anyway, welcome over, come sit down." She said patting next to her. It was the end of the table, with space for only one.

Jaune nodded, sitting down next to her, as Ruby sat on her other side.

Across him was a dark-haired girl, with a bow on her head, eyebrow deep into a book. She didn't seem to realize that he was here, that was fine with Jaune, though.

He felt Yang move under the table, and he almost dodge on reflex, till he realized that he was not her target. The dark-haired girl yelped and jump up.

"What was that for, Yang?" She had kicked her, Jaune realized her, why would she do that?

"What ever could you mean?" Yang asked innocently.

The book-girl narrowed on him. "Who is this,-" She paused. "Wait, no, why is here?"

"He's my new best friend forever, and yours too!" Ruby told her bluntly. Yang chuckling, while Weiss sighed, and a yet to be introduced Red-head inspected him.

Book girl looked at him with amber eyes, they did not look friendly.

"Blake Belladonna."

"Jaune Arc."

"I know that."

"I was introducing myself."

"I know that, too."

"Then, I guess, you know that you're being an ass, too?" Jaune said bluntly.

The table sat in shock.

Blake scowled at him, and then dove back into her book. Looks like she didn't know that.

Yang fell over laughing over herself.

"Jaune! Blake!" Ruby yelled at both of them, unsure of who to scold, looking between like a angry puppy.

Weiss briefly giggled, then hastily killed any evidence that it had ever happened.

With the red-head smiling good-naturally, Jaune didn't trust a smile that fake looking.

Blake scowled at him, and for second, he thought he heard hissing, shadows darkening around her. Then she huffed, diving back into her book.

Blake Belladona was an enigma, she showed up last year out of nowhere, and nobody knew where she came from, or who she was related too, but she was important somehow. She was pretty, and her mysterious air brought her plenty of attention, from those looking to find out what she was about.

Jaune ignored her for now, focusing on the last girl.

"Do I need to introduce myself, again?" He asked, not with annoyance, but curiously.

The red-head giggled. "No, you don't have too. Pyrrha Nikos." She said simply, with the same fake smile, but her eyes looked anxious and expectant.

"Cool. Anyway," He turned to Ruby. "Mind if I leave, I got stuff to do."

Jaune didn't see it, but he practically felt Pyrrha's eyes burrow into his head.

"Uh, Jaune. Do you not know who Pyrrha is?" Ruby said nudging her head unsubtly towards her.

Jaune shrugged. A bit, some hot-shot from Argus, but that was it. When she transferred over last year, he had been busy with important things like hunting Shadow Monster. So, he hadn't exactly been busy with the rumor mill.

"Should I?" She wasn't some goddess in the flesh was she? That would be awkward.

He turned to Pyrrha, and noticed her smile was gone, but her eyes seemed brighter. "I'm not buying any religion your selling, I'm content knowing the Brothers have my soul."

The table was once again silent, and Jaune got up. "Bye." Leaving to find a place to go take a nap.

"I can't believe that ruffian would just leave us like that! Does he know how many boys would die just to have one of us look at us?"

"Hey! He's not bad! He's just a bit shy is all!"

"Eh. I could take him or leave him, he gives off bad vibes, I think."

"He should stay far away, if he knows what good for him."

The girls were talking, but Pyrrha was lost in thought. Jaune was an anomaly to her now. She had known he was different before, but now she knew he was unique.

Was he playing dumb, or was he just not interested? She didn't like the attention her celebrity status brought, but paradoxically it was a good indicator of a person when she first met them, to help gauge a reaction.

But, she didn't think the local outcast would think she was a cultist! How humorous.

"What do you think, P-Money?" Yang asked, trying to see if they could tip the balance on they're opinion of the newcomer, hopefully to deter Ruby from inviting him again.

Pyrrha hummed thoughtfully. "Interesting, I think he's interesting."

"Well, I guess that's a good enough, for a vote of confidence." Yang announced blandly.

"How'd you meet him Ruby?" Pyrrha asked curiously.

"Oh! You girls should have seen it! He was so awesome, like a warlord out of legend! Cardin was trying to ask me out again, and wouldn't let me leave!"

"What?" Yang asked dangerously. "Did you, you have to?"

Ruby shook her head. "No, Jaune saw me. I didn't have to use any... stuff."

Pyrrha raised a brow. "He did? Cardin never goes without his little gang, how'd he get pasted him?"

"Well, Cardin was like oh, you're so pretty, we should kiss, and Jaune just comes up from behind him, and knocks his goons down like bowling pins, and then grabs Cardin by the shoulder, and I think I might have heard bone break, and Jaune said, hey that's my bff! You let go, so we can go hang out! So, Cardin said, please don't kill me, I think, and we left."

Blake looked at Yang, asking for a translation, who shrugged. "Seems like it's mostly accurate, not like we're going to get the other two sides of the story."

Pyrrha listened with interest. So, not just a outcast, but a warrior too?

My, my, he was growing more interesting my the moment. Pyrrha thought to herself.

Weiss flipped her hair dismissively. "Let me guess, and he said the best way to pay him back was to introduce him to us?"

Ruby blushed. "Actually, I might have exaggerated a bit, I was the one that said we should be bff's. He just told Cardin what's what, and then pulled me away, and asked if I was ok, and tried to leave."

The table listened intently. "He actually is very kind, his eyes looked so concerned when he was helping me, just looking inside, I know he's a big softie. So, I told him we're going to be bff's from now on, 'cause, he might be big and strong, but he look so lonely, all the time. So, from now on, I'm going to work at making him a the good guy, I know he is!"

Weiss looked away. "Hmm. I guess, he might not be a terrible addition to the group. Could keep the unwanted guests away."

"Well, if you say he's a good guy, I'll believe in you, Sis."

Blake was still looking at her book. "Well see if he's really as good as you believe he is."

Pyrrha said nothing, nodding contently, but internally, she couldn't help but feel excited for the future in the first in years. First the Shadow Knight, and now? They had a project to work on at school, too.

How wonderful.

Jaune watched his guts spill out of his abdomen, pale and shiny ropes falling out of him.

His hands touched his them unbelieving, still warm.

Surprisingly, he noticed was still standing up. He was in the woods, the full moon shining down on him, something in the darkness looked at him, evil eyes staring at him.

It was faster than human could react.

The last thing he saw was his body still standing, but with blood spurting out of his headless neck.

With a sigh, Jaune rubbed his eyes, getting up. He had another death-dream, which wasn't the worse one he could have.

They came along every couple of days, or hours, he wasn't sure anymore. He only slept for a couple hours at most, so his sense of time was gone.

Getting up, he went to his drawer, pulling out the notebook and opened it.

It was full to the brim full of his neat, compact hand writing. It also had no more space to write in.

So, he titled it vol. 15, put it away in a trunk at the end of his bed, and started a new book, recording his experiences from the last night, reflecting on what he could have done better and how he'd improve for tonight.

Going over battle after battle in his head, thinking of how he was going to improve, and erase the mistakes for his next encounter with something like the Wolf-Monster.

He only had one life, and he would not surrender it cheaply.

But, he also thought back to the those Flying Girls. They were an enemy now, but also so far out of his weight-class it wasn't even funny.

How was he even going to compete with them if they want him dead? Why would they want him dead, also? Weren't they on the same side, more or less? Had he crossed some unseen line?

Maybe, his theory about them being goverment weapons were right? Were they Black-Site Projects, maybe, he had killed too many Shadow-Monsters, and was interfering with an experiment?

What ever the case, they were a problem now, and that meant he was screwed if he didn't think how to counter them, no doubt, they were already thinking of how to improve against him, and wouldn't fall for the same trick, twice.

But, that didn't mean he couldn't exploit the weaknesses he noticed.

Writing in the note book, he started a list.

No sense of unity. They very much fight as champions rather than as a team.

Still weak to sensory damage, so probably need to breath too.

Invulnerable to conventional damage, seemingly. But, can't see in the dark? Or weak to sudden change in environment?

Don't seem used to fighting humans, or ones that fight dirty, or are skilled.

Unskilled fighters, it seems. Cocky, too. Possibly easily baited?

Still need light to see.

If they still need to breath, and are sensitive to chemicals to the sense's, they probably won't react well to chemical weapons, smoke inhaliation, or injesting poison.

Jaune nodded to himself, that was all he could think of at the moment. It wasn't time to hunt yet, but it was getting dark. He'd need to prepare before he went hunting tonight, so locking away his new notebook, he slips out into the night, heading to his workshop.

so (claps my hands together) they 100% misused neo here. they shouldve shown her and what she was doing in EA more. what screen time they did give her was often underwhelming. i had a complete lack of reaction to a certain kiss (& the whole scene honestly). it literally did nothing for me. just like. Ok. finally. it was dumb as fuck that yang was more concerned about defending blake from rubys outburst than she was about her sister clearly being in SEVERE distress?!? ruby the girl who's never lashed out like this ever, the sister she raised and would do anything for. okk... i liked jaune's arc though i thought that was well done + i love that he got to keep the white hair after being younged. the wk moments were... interesting. curious to see where they go with that. i LOVED the brothers lore it literally made me jaw drop. the baby brothers were so cute... really love that they were FROM EA rather than having created it. also the implication that they can come and go from there as they pleased? not really plausible imo but it couldve been interesting to. see them. umm. the neo illusion scene i loved everything about roman ofc. his final line made me cry really hard. clover was funny as hell to me. that man did fucking NOTHING. he only did things as part of the group and then during the fight he literally just stood there holding kingfisher. presumably bc neo had no idea how he fought. he was just there to be a number in the group + to turn into qrow. lionheart at least used his weapon in the fight. neo's backstory shouldve been more explored beyond a couple paintings and a couple lines from roman. not everyone has read roman holiday. ozpin using his cane in the fight like roman (hitting and bludgeoning rather than the fencing style) was a good detail. i've seen people get all up in arms about penny and ironwood being there but like. it is not unreasonable for neo to have made an educated guess as to what happened with them. the summer scenes were fantastic i love her axe-gun. yes ruby stop putting your mom on a pedestal she was a person too! though interesting that it took her so long to be like GASP my mom LIED?!? when in v7 qrow literally tells her that summer had a lot of secrets. meaning she lied a lot. ALSO very interested in who raven portaled to. if qrow knows more than hes been telling or if theres another person we havent met that raven found important enough to have immediate access to. weiss being made into the comedy character was.. annoying to say the least. neo's ending was unsatisfying in a lot of ways. i think this volume couldve done with another couple of episodes to fully flesh out ideas. sorry this was long lmao but it think this is a decent summary of my thoughts

YEAH!!!! honestly so many of my issues with it definitely could have been fixed with just like 2 extra episodes to fit in more of the build up (especially to the ruby and neo plot). bees were fine but they were like meant to be a d-plot to me. i figured it would be like primary plot is trying to get home interspersed with the ruby and neo dramatic build up and ruby's mental state deteriorating, b plot was what was goin on with jaune, c plot is The Penny Thing, and then bees could be doing their thang in the bg.

still mad ruby and neo's Whole Deal was like an episode and 4 lines of dialogue outside of that.

summer and raven's little adventure makes me so fucking crazy. i fully expect the person raven portalled to to be the spring maiden, and lowkey i think its possible it could be gretchen. the timeline would certainly line up.

neo's ending...i was able to be okay with it until i saw that the writers were literally like well she's a fan favourite so we knew we couldnt just off her so we had to give her a more gentle send off like KILL YOURSELVES!!!!!! sniffle. they rly just dropped at the last second "neo is jealous of the love ruby gets from her friends 🥺🥺 now she's gonna kill herself" LIKE SHUT UPPPPP.

the highs for me were VERY high (ruby snapping! neo's dialogue as an echo of salem's! jaune being a crazy hermit to parallel to ozpin! the brothers bg! summer and raven! the horror elements!!!) and the lows were very low. but if theyd had like literally just 2 more episodes i think it would have flowed a lot better and not felt quite so...rushed near the end.

how do things turn out?

Jaune Arc was always an odd duck, ever since his arrival at Beacon. And no, not just by means of his personality. True, he was a dorky guy who loved comic books, action movies, dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets, and wearing a blue bunny onesie, but there was more to it than that.

For one thing, every time he smiled, he would spread his lips wide to reveal his dagger-like teeth, so big and sharp that he once bit through an apple. AN ENTIRE APPLE! Weiss thought is was so gross and undignified, then showed him how to eat it in one bite more elegantly.

Then there were his ears. Blake has met her fair share of wolf faunus with wolf ears, but nobody ever had ears as hairy as his. It was gross, until Nora started braiding it. Then it just looked weird. The ribbons were kind of cute, until you noticed what they were tied to.

But his arms and his legs were so hairy, too! Her dad was the only one hairier than Jaune, but not by much. It came out in tufts through his suit! Ruby and Yang came up with the idea of rolling up his sleeves to make him look rugged. Sure, even if he did look very masculine, and muscular, with kind eyes that looked like something out of fairy ta- NO! FOCUS!

There was something definitely off about Jaune Arc, and she was going to find out!

"Hey, Blake, what's up?" Jaune stood in the afternoon light, looking statuesque qithout his shirt on. A fang poked through his lips, giving a cute, doggish look.

Blake shook her head. "We need to talk."

"Oh, uh, sure." Jaune tossed his shirt on, pulling hair down and giving him a bulky look. "But I hope it doesn't take too long. I have to be on a bullhead for home in a few hours."

"I know what you are, Jaune." Straight to the point, and judging by the look of fear in his eyes, she hit the mark.

"Y-You do?" Jaune grabbed her by the wrist with his big, meaty, thick paws, and shut the doors behind them. "You can't tell anyone, please!"

"I have to tell them eventually." Blake said, putting a hand over her heart to still her beating heart. "You can't hide this forever."

"I know, I know." Jaune whined, pacing the room. "Pyrrha knows, and she's willing to help me."

"Pyrrha knows?" Blake was surprised by this. "What about Ren and Nora?"

"I haven't told them, but I think they suspect something." He sat on his bed, head in his hands, before lifting his chin high. "Oh, I just don't know what to doooooooooooooooooo!"

Blake shivered. It was then she realized her position. She was isolated, alone in a tight, confined space with a creature more powerful than any Grimm she's ever faced. Her heart thundered at the thought of what this beast of a man, or man of a beast could do to her.

"I..." Blake gulped. "I had a secret, too." She breathed. He looked up to her, and those beautiful eyes stared stared deep into her soul. He looked so scared. "It was something I could pass off for a while, but it eventually made itself known. Soon, everyone knew and I couldn't hide the secret any longer." She removed her bow, revealing her ears. "But everyone supported me when I showed them who I really was. What I really was. I think the same can happen to you."

Jaune stood up, towering over Blake. She felt him place his hands, his heavy, fur-laden hands on her shoulder, and gave a light squeeze. He huffed a heavy blow of a sigh, and Blake had to put her everything into herself to not turn to jelly.

"You're right." Jaune nodded. "I'll tell them everything." His scrolled buzzed, and looked to his luggage. "Agh! I gotta go! Thanks for the talk, Blake. I'll message everyone my secret later tonight."

Jaune then wrapped his arms around Blake and she gave a yelp at the sudden affection, with a light whimper to show just how uncomfortable she was. She was not.

"Thank you, Blake." He rumbled through his lips. "For everything."

"Hmghuhbbamghnaboo..." was all Blake could mumble as she fell on his bed, watching Jaune rush out the door.

"I'll message you guys later tonight!"

Blake didn't hear that. She was too busy inhaling the scent he left on the mattress and sheets. God, she loved it when she was right.

Blake paced the dorm impatiently as she eyed her scroll. It made Ruby dizzy to watch, so she focused on her video game. Weiss rolled her eyes for the umpteenth time as she glanced up from her textbook. The bathroom door opened, and Yang stepped out with a towel around her hair.

"Yeesh, you're still doing that?" Yang smirked, moving to the dresser for the rest of her sleeping attire. "Pretty sure even cats have to get clean."

"Uh-huh, sure." Blake mumbled, moving to the bathroom.

"Are you worried about Jaune?" Ruby asked.

"He's fine." Weiss groaned. "Aside from an upset stomach, he's fine, I'm sure."

"He said he would message tonight, so why hasn't he messaged yet?" Blake stopped at the bathroom door. "He said he was going to tell everyone what he is!"

"And that would be?" Yang asked, removing her bra from her tank top.

"He's a werewolf!"

"Whoa!" Ruby shouted.

" Hey, easy, kit-cat!" Yang jabbed a pointing finger.

"And I thought you'd be more understanding of him!" Weiss said with a look of disgust.

"But he is!" Blake replied. "How else do you explain his fur?!"

"You mean his body hair?" Yang asked. "Guy's got genetics. Big deal!"

"But what about his ears?! No faunus has ears like that!"

"No," Weiss temporarily agreed, "but until I met you, I never thought a faunus could be so hateful of other faunus."

"No, it's not hate!" Blake blushed. "He's just-!"

"Blake, listen," Ruby hopped down, "I know that Jaune is a little different, but that doesn't mean we should hate him. We should show him nothing but our love and support, like Weiss did with you."

"I..." Everyone eyed Blake with a mixture of hopeful, disappointed, and bitter looks. "Okay, I... I understand."

Right as Blake said that, her scroll beeped, followed by everyone else's. She looked and it was Jaune! He finally messaged the group!

Jaune: Hey, guys! I landed safely and now I'm back home.

Nora: Yay~!

Pyrrha: I'm glad you landed safely.

Ren: How was the trip?

Yang: How much you throw up?

Weiss: Please don't answer that.

Ruby: No! Do!

Jaune: In a sec, guys, I need to tell you guys something.

Ruby: What is it?

Jaune: I

Jaune: I've been lying to you all.

Ruby: *Gasp*

Nora: *Double Gasp*

Yang: You've been lying to us?

Weiss: What exactly do you mean by that?

Ren: Is everything okay?

Pyrrha: Jaune?

Jaune: Pyrrha already knows, but I asked her to keep it a secret. Please don't be mad at her.

Jaune: I cheated into Beacon.

Ruby: You did what?!

Weiss: What do you mean you cheated into Beacon?!

Weiss: Explain yourself!

Jaune: I got in with forged transcripts. I never went to Signal or Bulwark or any combat school before this.

Pyrrha: That's why I was training him late at night.

Nora: Oh! That's why you get home so late! I thought you guys were boopin on the roofin.

Ren: Nora, please.

Ren: But Jaune, I wish you told us sooner. We wouldn't have been able to help you unless you told us. I would understand if you wanted to keep this a secret, but we're all friends. That means we help each other, no matter what.

Ruby: I was gonna say something, but Ren said it all faster than I did.

Yang: I guess Ren's got magic fingers, huh?

Yang: But he's right, though.

Yang: If I knew, I would have helped you with some basic self-defense.

Weiss: I could spare my time to teach you the importance of dust safety.

Weiss: Might make things easier if I had more than just Ruby to teach.

Jaune: Thanks, guys. You're the best.

"Are you kidding me?" Blake seethed in the bathroom as she watched this unfold. All the things she told him, pushed him to reveal, and THIS non-secret was his big secret?! Blake felt like the angriest faunus who ever lived!

A beep distracted her from her rage. It was a private message from Jaune. With a tap, she found a long message and a peek of an image underneath.

Jaune: Thank you for helping me, Blake. I really needed a friend, and you were there for me. I wish there was something more I could do to repay you, but I can't think of anything. So I asked my dad, and this is what he suggested.

Below the image was a familiar, and yet so unfamiliar image on screen. Jaune, or whom she assumed was Jaune had a big, toothy smile on his wolf-like face as he flexed, shirtless, under the pale moonlight. Blue eyes gleamed with joy as blond fur coated the rippling muscular body before her eyes.

Jaune Arc was a werewolf, and she now had proof. She could tell the others and show them her proof. But as she reread the message, she thought differently about this scenario. He revealed his secret after she convinced him to. Granted, it was the wrong secret, but still. Still the idea was enticing.

Perhaps after a shower, her thoughts would be clearer. After a long, long shower.

Ruby: That dress is cute on you.

Weiss: Well yes but is it cute enough to destroy his whole life?

Ruby: Aggressive…

Weiss: You know what I mean. He’s my man. I want to watch him cry. I want to make him think down is up and up is down.

Ruby: He’s also my man.

Weiss: You’re also mine. Not the same. *Examines herself in the mirror* I look good. But do I look good enough to make his head spin? It’s so hard because we’re already at an eight and we’re pushing for a nine.

Ruby: I don’t know…

Weiss: Too aggressive?

Ruby: No it would be too aggressive if you wanted to rip his heart out and make his eyes bleed. That would be too aggressive.

Ruby: I don’t know. Definitely go with a mermaid for your curves. You have great curves.

Weiss: Hand me another mermaid.

Ruby: *Hands her a dress off the rack*

Ruby: I like it.

Weiss: Me too. Your turn. Model for me.

If there’s one thing I don’t like about RWBY: Beyond, it was the choice to make it fully voice-acted. While I do absolutely love what we were given, it’s really obvious that CRWBY was working with whatever resources they had left, and were unable to get many of the show’s voice actors back before Rooster Teeth shut down, so they couldn’t make many stories for the miniseries.

So, what I think would have made for a good RWBY: Beyond episode is @pmpknsoup’s post featuring Ruby and Robyn that I’ve brought up too many times on this blog.

This will be the third time I touch on that post, but I can’t promise that it will be the last.

(In Theodore’s office in Shade Academy at early evening, Team RWBY and Jaune Arc face the main members of the Remnant Alliance, consisting of Team JNPR plus Oscar Pine/Ozpin and Emerald Sustrai, Team STRQ, the Ace-Ops, the Happy Huntresses, Winter Schnee, Team SSSNN, Team CFVY, Whitley Schnee, Willow Schnee, Klein Sieben, Maria Calavera, Dr. Pietro Polendina, Ghira Belladonna, Kali Belladonna, Ilia Amitola, Bartholomew Oobleck, Peter Port, Glynda Goodwitch, Theodore, Xanthe Rumpole, and Zwei.)

RUBY: Listen. Thanks, everyone, for your patience.

RUBY: It took a while to figure out how to tell you, and I know being left in the dark about our whereabouts over the remainder of the winter, the whole spring, and the summer has left you anxious, but now, I’ve decided it’s time to reveal what’s been going on. Robyn, I’ll need your Semblance to prove all of this correct.

ROBYN: Uh, okay.

(Robyn steps away from the group, removes her glove, and joins hands with Ruby. Her Semblance turns on and glows green with every piece of information Ruby gives.)

ROBYN: So, you guys didn’t make it out of the pocket dimension before it collapsed. Where did you guys fall to?

RUBY: Well, after I fell, I regained consciousness on a beach surrounded by giant seashells. I tried to hone in on a giant tree, but just ended up looping in circles. Eventually, I had to stop, then found a mouse trying to pull a plant out of the ground. I pulled the plant, which turned out to be a cheese plant, out for the mouse, and fed it to them. After the mouse revealed that they could talk, I named them Little, and they decided to stay by my side as I tried to get home. Then we found Weiss and Blake captured in vines by a whole village of talking mice. It didn’t take much convincing to get them to let them go. Then we went to look for Yang and found a creepy Grimm-looking creature moving jerkily. And I mean very creepy. (IMITATING JABBERWALKER) “Stalking. Searching. Waiting. Listening.” (NORMAL VOICE) Then Yang came barreling out, already fighting the creature while missing her arm. Then Blake realized we were in our favorite childhood fairy tale, The Girl Who Fell Through the World.

(Confusion and wonder all around. “That fairy tale?” “The Ever After?” “It’s real?”)

OSCAR: That fairy tale actually happened? And the Ever After is real?

RUBY: Which meant the creepy Grimm-like creature was the Jabberwalker from that story. Also, Weiss had a very hard time wrapping her head around the Ever After’s absurdities.

(Weiss blushes with embarrassment.)

WEISS: I did not.

RUBY: Our hands are glowing green, Weiss. Robyn’s Semblance never fails. Then we went to the village in the King’s Acre to barter with the Jinxy Peddler, who had stolen Yang’s arm. Well, they don’t “steal”, they just “take things others aren’t looking at”. Fair is fair, right, Little?

ROBYN: Sounds like a legitimate businessperson.

WEISS: Right?

EMERALD: Wait, you guys met the Jinxy Peddler?

VELVET: Was he cute?

WEISS: Cute? He was adorable!

RUBY: And, despite being older than he was in the book, his strategy was the same, selling treasures that are really other items in disguise. If my memory serves me right, he had a yellow scepter, a pink rabbit statue, and a marionette-like doll. Toy soldiers won the scepter, and we only got it back from them because Little tried stealing the marionette, exposing Jinxy’s treasures as fakes. The rabbit statue was another mouse, the scepter was Yang’s arm, and the marionette was one of Penny’s Floating Array swords. The soldiers followed us to arrest us for stealing Yang’s arm, or “royal property”, before I traded Penny’s sword, and told them she was the greatest warrior to ever live. “She was touched by magic, and she gave her life for thousands. She took a message of hope to the stars, and she saw the world through better eyes.”

(The gang gets emotional, especially Winter and Pietro, who are comforted by their loved ones.)

RUBY: The soldiers escorted us to the Crimson Castle for the birthday of who we thought was the Red King, but turned out to be the Red Prince, who was more of a spoiled brat than Weiss was at Beacon.

YANG: (nudging Weiss) Heh-heh.

RUBY: We challenged him to a game of chess, where he shrunk the girls to the size of chess pawns. Not that it hindered their performance against the Prince’s pawns. When we revealed that we’re humans and beat him, he threw a tantrum and wanted us beheaded, and the Curious Cat rescued us.

(More interested chatter. Nora Valkyrie gets giddy.)

NORA: The Curious Cat?!

REN: Were they as chatty as the book made them out to be?

RUBY: Mm-hm. Not to mention easily distracted. Anyway, they took us to look for ingredients for a Growgurt Parfait in the Garden’s Acre, and we told them our life story, but because we kept getting distracted with our internal conflicts, we kept losing them over and over again. After the third time, when they asked me how I’m supposed to save the world now that Salem has two out of four Relics and that Atlas is gone, we met an herbalist, a caterpillar named Herb who seemed to be asking us questions to figure out what medicine he needed to make to help us. Looking back, he was being reasonable, as too little medicine is useless, but too much medicine is toxic. Eventually, Herb just decided to smoke a hookah for a bit and drugged us with leaves that made us see our past selves tempting us to “go back”. To be free. To be simple. To be whole. To be different. The other girls rejected and had already accepted their failures as something to learn from, but I almost gave in, before the Cat stopped me, then got Herb swallowed by a hole in the ground.

(The gang chatters in moods ranging from confusion to nervousness.)

TAI: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Back up. You guys did drugs?

QROW: Don’t let alcoholism be next, girls.

RUBY: Anyway, the Cat led us to a market to keep looking for the Parfait ingredients. Along the way, they told us about a process that occurs when an Afteran is no longer doing their assigned role, triggered by them losing their ways, wearing out, doubting themselves, or even just finishing their assigned tasks, upon which they are taken to the Great Tree and repurposed into someone or something else with a new identity, personality, and role. Their memories are erased in the process, but the heart very rarely forgets. They don’t die. They ascend.

(Such a concept catches the interest of the gang.)

REMNANT ALLIANCE: Ooh.

EMERALD: Talk about a potential existential crisis.

RUBY: Hence why there was no Red King when we got to the Castle. He lost his game and ascended into the brat we encountered. And the hole that swallowed Herb was him starting his own Ascension. Anyway, after we arrived at the market and got all of the Parfait ingredients, the market was attacked by Jabberwalkers using Neopolitan’s Semblance. Yeah, Neopolitan fell with us, too.

(Nora, Ren, Oscar, and Emerald grow worried.)

REN: Uh-oh.

TAI: Neopolitan? Who’s that?

RUBY: Remember Roman Torchwick, the criminal from Vale? Neo was his partner. She held me responsible for his death at the Fall of Beacon and wanted me dead to avenge him. She expressed herself through gestures and facial expressions because she couldn’t talk.

RAVEN: Was she that chick I saved Yang from on the train on Mountain Glenn?

RUBY: Yep. Then I disposed of her by opening her umbrella on an Atlas airship in the sky during the Fall of Beacon. Apparently she survived that fall without any of those Grimm surrounding us eating her.

OSCAR: Team JNPR and I last fought her right after Ironwood declared us fugitives.

RUBY: Then she fought us in the pocket dimension between here and Solitas. Heck, she was the reason Yang, Blake, and I fell. Anyway, we made the Growgurt Parfait and the girls grew back to normal size just as we got assistance from the Rusted Knight riding his white rabbit.

WHITLEY: Did Weiss go goo-goo eyes the second she laid eyes on him? She had a crush on him when she was younger.

BLAKE: I think everyone had a crush on the Rusted Knight at some point.

RUBY: Well, things didn’t help when he turned out to be a grown-up Jaune with longer hair and a beard, who grabbed a fruit that sent him back in time twenty years right after he landed.

(The gang gasps at the new knowledge of the Rusted Knight being not only Jaune, of all people, but Jaune thrown backwards in time, grown older, and living without his friends for so long.)

NORA: Oh, my Gods! Jaune!

JAUNE: I was stuck there isolated from other human contact, too.

YANG: Weiss certainly loved how mature he was.

RUBY: And the white rabbit was a jackalope Jaune named Juniper.

NORA: After his team? Aww!

RUBY: Then Jaune told us his perspective on the Tree, that he believed it was death, that Alyx backstabbed her brother Lewis, the author of the fairy tale, who wrote the story the way he wished it happened, and that the Cat couldn’t be trusted. Before long, we got caught in a “punderstorm”, which creates a physical manifestation of a mental or emotional problem. Jaune, Weiss, Juniper, and I were sent to metaphorical and literal crossroads, while Yang and Blake were sent to two broken, wooden, rickety bridges connected to a giant pillar that they could only make more planks to advance toward if they were honest about their feelings for each other. Yeah, Yang and Blake are girlfriends now.

(As Yang and Blake blush at each other, everyone’s hearts melt, all proud for the Bees.)

REMNANT ALLIANCE: Aww!

NORA: See, Ren? I told you there was more going on!

KALI: Our baby girl found love?

TAI: With my sunny little dragon?

RAVEN: Wow. She really is your daughter, Tai.

TAI: What’s that supposed to mean?

RAVEN: A tall, muscular, boisterous blonde who tells bad jokes pining after a brooding dark-haired beauty? A tale as old as time.

RUBY: Then the Cat bailed on us after mistaking us for selfishly using them to get home, and once the storm passed, Jaune let us spend the night in his house in the Origami Acre, then he introduced us the next morning to a village of paper stars called the Paper Pleasers. They seemed very dumb and clumsy at first, because of the daily disasters they were causing, but, at the end of the day, were very hospitable. He also named them after all of us. On Jaune’s to-do list, I saw Ren, Ruby, Oscar, Nora, Neptune, and Pyrrha.

(Not a word is spoken as everyone exchanges concerned and uncomfortable looks with each other.)

RUBY: Anyway, a Paper Pleaser told us they kept causing disasters because they wanted to ascend, because their purpose was long since finished, but Jaune was stopping them because of his belief that the tree was death. They told us that the Tree isn’t death, but resurrection, rebuilding, and rebirth. Then Neo’s Jabberwalkers attacked, and while we were distracted, the Paper Pleasers finally managed to off themselves by destroying the koi pond dam and drowning in the flood, then when the girls asked me to help comfort Jaune, I blew up at them for caring more about everyone else’s feelings or getting home, taking my mental health for granted and ignoring my problems…

(Everyone leans in anxiously. Things are getting even more interesting, but not in a good way.)

(Weiss, Blake, Yang, and Jaune exchange looks of guilt.)

RUBY: …then I ran away, came across the Abandoned Acre, and entered a mansion, where Neo had made clone illusions of Roman Torchwick, Penny, Pyrrha, Professor Lionheart, Clover, Ozpin, and Ironwood, and used them to physically and psychologically abuse me, beating me up ruthlessly and blaming me for their deaths, and when the chaos was over, I felt no will to live or be myself anymore, not helped by Torchwick’s question: “Do you really think you can stand to watch more of your friends fall? Or are you ready to admit the truth, that the world would just be better off without you?”

(The gang regards Ruby with sorrow over her being trampled by her trauma. Ozpin can be heard sniffling.)

RUBY: Then Neo offered me tea made from leaves from the Tree intended to wipe me from existence. The Cat blasted her away, but then turned out to be evil and tried to possess me, while revealing that they had been trying to wear me down the whole time, then Neo fought them off and stomped Little to death, then I finally gave in, drank the tea, offing myself, and got swallowed by the Tree.

YANG: (tearing up) Oh, Rubes.

RUBY: Then I met a Blacksmith, who I also found at the market, or, rather, she found me, and then she presented me with a choice to either change my identity or be myself. I saw my mom’s weapon and was treated to a vision of the night she left with Raven on another one of Ozpin’s secret missions and never came back.

(Tai turns accusingly at Raven.)

TAI: Raven?

YANG: She lied? She left with you?

RAVEN: Yeah… Hey, like I said to her, “First time for everything.”

(The gang gives her a look.)

RAVEN: Really? Sheesh. Tough crowd.

HARE: (to Ruby) Wait. What did you say your mother’s name was again?

RUBY: Summer.

HARE: (muttering) So, her uncle is Qrow, her father is Taiyang, and her sister’s mother is Raven. All are members of Team STRQ. Summer, Summer, Summer… (out loud) Summer Rose, the leader of Team STRQ, was your mother?

REMNANT ALLIANCE: (walla) Summer?…Summer Rose?…The previous silver-eyed Huntress?…That’s Summer Rose’s daughter?

RUBY: Yeah. And then, I finally remembered my mom’s words, “I love you just the way you are,” chose to be myself, and came back to help the girls fight the Cat. And we won.

(Cheers and applause all around.)

RUBY: And then Neo killed the Cat by using the Jabberwalkers to eat them. By the way, Jabberwalkers are the only creatures to prevent Ascension if they eat Afterans.

BLAKE: On my count, there were a whopping five of them.

REMNANT ALLIANCE: (walla) Five?…Five of them?…Five Jabberwalkers?

SUN: Talk about overkill.

ELM: (after doing the multiplication math in her head) That’s gotta be over ninety teeth!

RUBY: And, according to the girls, Neo was possessed by the Cat, and she chose to accept Torchwick’s death and undergo her own Ascension. Oh, and Little ascended, too, into who we called Somewhat, and succeeded Jaune as the protector of the Ever After. By then, we had made it to the Tree by coming to terms with the truth, we’ll never be perfect, that even the most skilled Huntsmen and Huntresses have failed, and we walked through the door back home, landed inside the plane of the Tree, and met the Blacksmith again at her workshop. When we noticed two statues of the Brother Gods, she told us their backstory. That the Ever After was overfilled with plants and dangerous wildlife in its primordial years, but the Brothers were created to clear it out. Then they created the Afterans as well as the different acres for them to live in. They designed new creations that would replace them in maintaining the Ever After. This was how the Cat was created. They later created the Jabberwalker as a form of destruction. However, the two disagreed on whether it disrupted the balance or not and began to wage war.

OSCAR AND OZPIN: (both scoff) What else is new?

RUBY: The Blacksmith told us how balance isn’t supposed to be two opposing forces locked in battle; balance is an ecosystem, an organism, and a living thing, thus balance isn’t restored with force or manipulation, it’s restored naturally, requiring love and patience to see it through to the end. The Gods got to Remnant because the Ever After created a door to a “greater beyond” for them, so they can leave and experiment in creating new worlds as much as they like.

NORA: (snickering) So the Tree basically said, “You think you have life sorted out? Then get out of my house”?

RUBY: Pretty much.

(Everyone laughs at the Brother Gods basically being “kicked out of the house” by their “mom”. Some Gods they are.)

YANG: Oh, my Gods, that’s such a hilarious way of looking at it. Thanks, Nora.

RUBY: Anyway, the Blacksmith told us that we impacted the Ever After significantly, just like Somewhat, Alyx, and Lewis, and that the Cat caused a bad impact. Then she de-aged Jaune, but let him keep his memories, which explains the white streak in his hair, and made us a portal in the desert on the outskirts of the city, and now you’re all caught up.

(Ruby lets go of Robyn’s hand. The freedom fighter rejoins the rest of the Alliance.)

RUBY: So, I’m happy to announce that I’m not giving up the fight to save the world anytime soon. No longer will we be putting the entire burden of the world’s safety on one individual, for we are Team Remnant, led by us, Team RWBY!

REMNANT ALLIANCE: (walla) Yes!…Great!…Alright!…Thank goodness!…Welcome back, Ruby!…Good to have you back, kid!…Way to go, Ruby!…That’s my girl!

YANG: We’re so proud of you, Ruby.

RUBY: Thanks, guys. You and your support mean the world to me. And I’m just as proud to call you guys family. All of you.

(Everyone looks at Ruby with warmed hearts.)

I know you're primarily doing Bumbleby, but ever since the Big Cat RWBY post where Cheeta!Ruby and Snow Leopard!Weiss where introduced, I kept wondering about what Animal!JNPR would look like.

Rather than giving them feline dopplegangers as well, my mind instead kept returning to canines, domestic dogs specifically.

Dog!Jaune would a Golden Retriever, because obviously. He'd be owned by Pyrrha before she came to the zoo/animal reserve Jaune works at. Picked up as something of a runt from the litter, and the only male pup amongst all the sisters because why not.

Dog!Pyrrha would be something that looks imposing but would only be dangerous if provoked or goaded, maybe something like a Rottweiler. Or better yet, a Dobermann! Dobermanns are fiercely loyal to their owners and are known to bond with one person only. Owned and cared for by Jaune after he found her in an dank alley with, of all things one could expect, an arrow in one of her back legs.

Arkos happens by chance when both Jaune and Pyrrha are taking their dogs out for a walk in the local park. There's a whole meet-cute scenario that brings the two together and bish-bash-bosh, both Jaune and Pyrrha end up with a significant other they each believe to be out of their league.

Dog!Nora can't really be anything else but a Samoyed. Sure, it'd be funny to have her be like a massive wolfhound or something, but I think the Samoyed is basically perfect. Nora's boisterous, active energetic and playful and so is the Samoyed. If you can keep a handle on her, she's incredible to have around.

Dog!Ren on the other hand was harder to pick. After some searching however, I managed to come across the Chuandong Hound. They're described, among other things, as noble, loyal, and dignified. All of that describes human!Ren quite well I'd say. They're also protective of the people they care about and are known to stand guard if strangers come up to their owners, only to lower their alertness if their owners are fine with them.

Dog!Ren and Dog!Nora would both be owned by an established Renora couple. When they adopted them as pups, Nora named them like that on a whim because she thought it was hilarious. She still thinks it's funny now, now that the dogs are all grown up.

All four dogs, despite their vastly different personalities seem to mesh incredibly well when they all meet each other for the first time. The same goes for their owners but that's to be expected really.

Anyhow, whether you decide to do something with this or not, I just needed to get this out.

Big Cat AU is 100% funny, fluffy and lovely by the way, definitely hope to see it come back from time to time.

Whew! This was a long one for me to go through, so I apologize for the delay here.

I like the idea of Pyrrha being a doberman! But maybe keep the ears floppy instead of cropped for her. Adds to her wanting to be "normal".

Jaune is definitely a Golden boy, but I don't see him being one of the AKC purebread floof boys. No, I want him to be the shaggy, dark blonde slender boys. They have more charm.

Nora.... I have to disagree with the Sammy. I can honestly see her being a Terrier. Specifically a Jack Russel Terrier. Those little crackheads are so loving, but absolutely crazy when they get into hunting mode. Considering her backstory, I can see her being a terrier mix.

Ren's definitely works! Never heard of a Chuandong Hound before, but I can definitely see it. Otherwise maybe a black and brown Chow Chow.

I'll have to do the Dog Days AU in a different post, but I'll try to do one soonish! I just need to get an idea. If you think of a prompt before I do, shoot me an ask!

(Funny thing is: I'm not that big of a cat fan. I'm a dog person, so the fact that I'm writing a Big Cat AU is hilarious for me! I'm glad you're enjoying it though! I enjoy writing up blurbs for it.)
