Idlewild - Roundtable Jukebox

Idlewild is a musical drama film released in 2006, directed by Bryan Barber and starring the hip-hop duo OutKast, which consists of André 3000 (André Benjamin) and Big Boi (Antwan Patton). The film is set in the Prohibition-era South and blends elements of music, drama, and crime with a jazz and hip-hop-infused soundtrack.

This was a beautiful film and very aesthetic. I have not seen another musical quite like this one and it’s for a reason. Here's why...

What are the social aspects within the film’s narrative that align with the film’s songs? 

The characters in "Idlewild" demonstrate resilience in the face of adversity, a theme echoed in the film's music.  Many songs highlight the characters' determination to overcome obstacles and fight for their dreams, reflecting the broader struggle for justice and equality.

The film's love songs align with these themes, expressing the joy, passion, and challenges of love.

Rooster's involvement in the criminal underworld is depicted through intense and energetic musical numbers that convey the danger and excitement of his lifestyle.

The film's songs reflect their desires for a better life and their struggles to achieve their dreams. Percival's introspective ballads, for instance, convey his longing to break free from his small-town life and pursue his passion for music.

How do the historiographies of previously recorded songs inform audience relationships with the musical’s narrative and performers? 

Most of the songs in Idlewild had already been featured on the OutKast albums Big Boi and Dre Present...OutKast and Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, essentially making it a jukebox musical. Seven of the songs from the film, along with several unreleased songs, were released by LaFace Records as an OutKast album entitled Idlewild at the time of the film's release.

This is such an interesting question for my film considering all the film’s score was performed and produced by the lead actors, Andre 300 and Big Boi, with a few credited features in the film. Obviously it isn’t just circumstance that the leads were a famous Hip-Hop duo, so it isn’t hard to assume that the actors/artists were chosen specifically to star in this film for their transformative and notable music style and sound. Without their unique sound and talent for performing, the film could not, and would not be what it is. 

The historiography of this film is unique in the way that the character actors are also the creators of the featured soundtrack. On one hand, the audiences may feel more compelled to the characters and their narrative because they are in support of their music exclusive to the film, as well as some of their originals. In general though, I think historiographies definitely inform the audience’s relationship to a narrative. It can make you more engaged with the characters and their conflicts if you personally feel the music is fitting, or on the other hand, it can make you understand and better comprehend the narrative you're following because you may be familiar with the meaning and significance of the music. I also think about people’s ability to see artists they like and songs they love being performed in a different medium. In a way, your brain might see the visuals from the first time they heard it; or maybe the song originally had a music video. It’s up to directors to build the narrative strongly around the music.

What musical genre/style drives the film’s score, and how does the genre/style (re)define the film as a musical? 

The hip-hop, funk, and soul stylings of the song score are intentionally anachronistic, a choice made to complement the film being set in 1935. Elements of 1930s-era blues and jazz music are, however, featured prominently in many of the musical numbers. The film's dance numbers, choreographed by Hinton Battle, also feature many period dances, primarily the jitterbug and showgirl moves, like featured in the above video.

The film does a lot of blending hip-hop with jazz, blues, and gospel influences.

Idlewild is known for its visually stylized and innovative approach to storytelling, incorporating musical numbers, fantasy sequences, and animation. 

The film defines itself by taking place in the 1930s, in addition to casting vetted performers and songwriters as your leads. The musical simply wouldn't have the same storytelling element had anyone else written the soundtrack, whether prior to the film or not.

The Heartslabyul Fire/Grass Gym! Part of my brainrotting twst!pokemon gym au; more details/explanations under the cut

My idea for this gym is that upon entering the gym Yuu is accosted by ace and deuce (mostly ace lol) as they need help to paint the roses in time for the unbirthday party! Basically poor Yuu will have to do a mini quest for each of the heartslabyul boys (except riddle)

Ace and Deuce have Yuu catch a Smeargle and a Grafaiai to help paint the roses red

Cater (forces) Yuu to help find the sinistea and polteagheists hidden around town

Trey asks Yuu to go with him to get some berries in a forest to the side of the town (think the pair ups from pkm diamond/pearl)

After all those quests, the unbirthday party is in full swing! Yuu has the option to battle each of the boys (like in the battle restaurants from X and Y) or they can go straight to Riddle to get the badge!

Afterwards, Ace and Deuce pop up from time to time to battle the player like a rival would, except its more like they harass poor Yuu into fighting them so they can see how strong Yuu has gotten

After the badge, Riddle asks the player to catch the 5 Sandslashes that ran into the forest (not a mandatory quest) and after giving him the Sandslashes, the player recieves Alolan Sandshrew as a reward!

Now for an explanation of the boys teams!

Each boy has a fire type, a grass type, and an ace because it makes things more interesting

Gym leaders have an extra pokemon because I said so… also ignore stats I picked each mon based on vibes alone

I wanted Ace and Deuce to have a sort of mirrored team, with Ace having exclusively special attackers and Deuce having physical attackers

Ace has Mismagius mainly because of how it sounds like mischief; Ace would defo prank Deuce using Mismagius

Deuce has Scizor because it reminds me of a motorcycle! He takes Scizor to get decals every so often to bond <3

Cater has Alolan Raichu as his ace because cheerful surfer, and (iirc) all of his team can use double team since I thought that was fitting :P

I also chose Chandelure for Cater mainly to hint at his depth (duology? Sides?) as a character hehe

Trey has baking pokemon! Funny i know! They all help him make treats for the unbirthday parties :)

Riddle has Audino as his ace partially to hint at his mother’s influence (as his mom is like a nurse/healer/doctor?) and also because Audino seems like a calming pokemon (same logic for him having Meganium)

Riddle uses Talonflame since i can see baby riddle befriending the Fletchling that pops outside his window while he works on his self study stuff, and he has Roserade mainly for the rose theming

This au has been in the works for like a long while lol, i plan to draw each of the twst dorms as a gym, and to explain a little of my thought out story each time!

Yuu gets Grim as a starter pokemon accidentally, he helps Yuu save Professor Crowley from wild Houndour or something idk

Crowley hands Yuu a pokedex (“do my work for me, im so generous!”) and off the duo go!

Grim isnt an actual pokemon in this universe, but he does get mistaken for a multitude of them lol, from a Purrloin to a Sentret!

But Grim coming out of nowhere is not as much of a lucky chance as it seems… and Yuu discovers a mysterious tag under the ribbon they tie to Grim’s neck

OK YOUR FRIENDSHIP CHART MAKES ME THINK... Is Preme like. still an all powerful celestial/alien being??? I know we saw their chest crystal(?) get shattered in the final battle but like?? Are they basically just a super powerful fairy now????

ough i actually do have a lot of thoughts regarding prim and pukas power sets,, ty for giving me and excuse to share them

I feel like prim and pukas powers as cures are left kinda ambiguous by the end of the movie, so i wanna try and maybe pick out the details and comes to a conclusion

I want to start with what we do know and then go into my headcanons i guess. So to start, from what i can tell Supremes power set can be divided into three categories. Creation, Destruction, and Electricity. Since its stated that Supreme split their power with puka, we can assume puka can do all of this as well.

For Creation, i feel this ones not super defined. We see Supreme use it a few times, once to recreate the earth, recreating themselves, and also to create life on earth, including puka. I also believe that puka is seen using it. I always interpreted that puka, after breaking apart supremes earth, was the one to put the pieces back together and reform the actual earth with the help of all the precures memories. I would also argue that puka used that same power to create the miracle lights. I understand the miracles lights just kinda Show Up and dont necessarily need a reason to exist, but i think this explanation is fun. 

this is also just speculation and probably not intentional, but i noticed that when supreme recreated the earth, the particles and blue. and when puka recreated the earth, those particles were pink <3 [the particles are most likely just the miracle lights but i like this explanation better <3<3]

I feel that the Destruction and the Electricity powers supreme and puka show off can often get confused with each other, so im gonna try and define their characteristics. For Destruction, we see puka use it whenever their paw pads and heart symbol start to glow green. Supreme also follows a similar format, with the green heart jewel on their chest glowing when they specifically use that power, or when we see the symbol on supreme origins chest glow green as well.

We also see it represented with the gold star circles, with both cure puka and supreme beta using them while fighting. Tho i also attribute the star circle to their Creation power as well, since we see supreme beta use it to summon the white supreme clones before the final fight, so its no mutually exclusive to the Destruction power.  [love how the stars have a warping effect around their edges argh <3]

The final category of their power set is just an Electricity motif more than anything. We see supreme use it whenever they do their peace sign hand pose, and for them its blue electricity. We see cure puka use it a bit too, more as a charge up before they punch supreme, and we can see that their electricity is pink. Overall this power seems to be what they default to when fighting and not trying to destroy or recreate the world. 

There are also a few other little flares of power here and there, with supreme shown to be able to summon bunny shields and use their electricity in a few unique ways. I know personally i like the idea of cure supreme and puka having a variety of powers because i like the idea of them being a duo team. theyd only be able to rely on each other, and would need a variety of attacks to keep things interesting. [im aware there are other cure duo teams but i imagine the enemies supreme and puka fight are much more involved <3]

Now when it comes to the end of the movie, we’re not really told what these two are capable of, but i can speculate. From what we do know, i believe its confirmed that supreme is human by the end, and puka is still a fairy. To me, that means puka can still transform between fairy and cure puka, and prim cant transform into supreme origin or beta anymore. And in regards to what power cure supreme has left, how i interpret it is that they no longer have that power of Destruction. We see the green jewel on their chest shatter in the final fight, and to me that green jewel represented their power of Destruction. So by destroying that jewel, they no longer have that ability. 

Now that we have all the information laid out, im going to start headcanoning things for fun. I really like the idea of supreme and puka having contrasting abilities that complement each other. supreme lost their power of destruction at the end of the movie, but that leaves the question: does puka still have it? I dont see a reason as to why they wouldnt still have it. There is something i adore about the idea that the character who despised their power not only used it to save the world, but is now tasked with the responsibility of ensuing its used responsibly. 

They would also contrast each other in fighting styles. We know that supreme is very skilled at physical combat, and i believe that its something they would need to rely on more as a human. i like to think theyre more limited in their moves as a human cure. we see supreme beta floating and teleporting, but now they cant do that anymore. theyre really just limited to their electricity blasts and own skill. And while skilled, i do believe they would have to adapt to fighting as a human. Something i noticed during all their fights is that if they do get hit, they always seem relatively unaffected. As origin gamma and beta, supreme would just take the hit point blank. The only times theyre somewhat out of control being when theyre taken off balance. But as a human, taking a hit hurts, and i think theyd have to learn to get used to that. It doesnt matter how skilled of a fighter you are, as a human you have limits. these limits frustrate supreme, but theyd learn to enjoy the challenge that comes with it and fighting.

when it comes to puka and fighting, i feel they still dont really enjoy it. theyre powerful, thats for sure, but theyre clumsy. they landed one great punch in the movie, but that was it. they seem like the type that would charge in with too much momentum and then not know how to put on the brakes. they understand their destructive abilities are linked to their emotions, but maybe falter every once and awhile. but they are determined to get better. they look up to supremes coordination and composure, how they were able to harness such power so gracefully. even if their intentions back then were not ideal. puka knows the power they have is important and their responsibility to use to help those who need it. supreme understands that too. puka is more willing to change than them, thats why its their responsibly.

Throughout the Fate franchise, pairs of masters and heroic spirits—also known as servants—have been fighting across history in a series of Holy Grail Wars, with the winning duo receiving an ancient artifact that grants wishes. Fate/Samurai Remnant continues the series’ epic Holy Grail War in the fourth year of the Keian Era, Edo Period Japan. It has been several decades since the end of a turbulent, blood-soaked era, and while the people are finally enjoying peace and tranquility, a battle between seven pairs of masters and servants is about to begin as the “Waxing Moon Ritual” unfolds in the shadows. This is where the game’s hero, Miyamoto Iori, a young man in Asakusa, finds himself caught in the violence alongside his servant Saber, as they fight to be the last pair remaining in order to receive the granter of wishes, the “Waxing Moon Vessel”.

The 4th year of the Keian Era, Edo Period. Forty-eight years had passed since Ieyasu, the sovereign of Japan, opened the capital to the Tokugawa shogunate. The reign of the Tokugawa was passed down to the fourth Shogun, Ietsuna. The number of people living in Edo increased day by day, and the city seemed to be enjoying its prosperity. However, due to a succession of dissolutions and revocations by the feudal lords, the streets were filled with ronin, and the peaceful days of Edo seemed to be fading.

In Asakusa, a town in Edo, there was a young man named Miyamoto Iori. He was the adopted son and apprentice of the great swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. Iori chose not to serve under a lord, but rather spent his days training his swordsmanship. One day, he noticed an unfamiliar bruise on the back of his hand. Iori would soon find himself trapped in the midst of a horrific conflict, a battle of blood and trickery.

The battle over the “Waxing Moon” which could grant any and all wishes – the “Waxing Moon Ritual”. The seven individuals seeking their wish, or Masters, are the bearers of the Ritual. The seven Heroic Spirits, or Servants, are summoned to this world by their Masters. The curtain rises on the battle between the seven Masters with their seven Servants.

Adopted son and disciple of the great swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. He is a ronin living in Asakusa, Edo, who studied the Niten Ichiryu style of swordsmanship, but Musashi passed away before he could teach him the secrets of the art. Still seeking to master the Way of the sword, he spends his days training while making ends meet.

Saber (voiced by Hibiku Yamamura)

“You’re weak. Have you no abilities besides the sword?”

A Servant of the Saber class who is dressed in an old-fashioned style and wields a wavy sword. Saber suddenly appeared in front of Iori and saved him from a crisis. Claiming that Iori is weak, this proud Heroic Spirit intends to fight the Waxing Moon Ritual alone. Saber seems to be interested in the peaceful streets of Edo.

A courtesan at Miura-ya, a brothel in Yoshiwara. She is said to be one of the most beautiful women in Edo and attracts many men including feudal lords. “Dayu” is the highest rank of courtesan, and she is one of the three most popular Dayu.

A Servant of the Berserker class. Her True Name is Miyamoto Musashi. She is an unrivaled swordswoman and the founder of the Niten Ichiryu style of swordsmanship. Though she shares the same identity as Miyamoto Iori’s teacher, her appearance seems to be slightly, or perhaps quite, different from that of the person Iori knew.

Traverse the city of Edo and become victorious in the Waxing Moon Ritual. Fight, explore, converse… Many elements are deeply intertwined in this action RPG!

◆ Master and Servant Work Together During Battles

Control the Master and Servant during battles and use their bond with each other to survive. Use a variety of attacks to gain an advantage while assessing the enemy and situation of the battle.

Master

Iori’s weapon of choice are swords. He fights by switching between five different stances, each with its own characteristics, depending on the situation. For example, Earth Stance is excellent for defense, while Water Stance is best suited for fighting multiple opponents at once. If he is unable to use his sword for certain enemies, he can use magic to counter them. Servant image image image Saber fights with great power as a Servant and can shoot water from their sword. Even the strongest enemies would stand no chance against Saber’s brilliant swordplay. When you control Iori, your Servant will make decisions and act independently.

Thoughts on fret and coco

I like Fret! I like how you can never tell how much of his behavior is a ruse, you feel settled in thinking that you know exactly who he is (the Twister's manic pixie dream girl of course) until those few key moments when the mask begins to slip and you realize just how near-indistinguishable his "real" self is from his persona. I especially like the conflict he has with Rindo throughout Week 2. Rindo's an anxious kid who's been thrust unwillingly into a leadership position, so you feel for him when he hesitates to make decisions that very well might be the difference between life and death. But Fret's also just a kid who wants to make it out alive and is stuck watching his leader hum and haw over what he's sure can give them a leg up in the competition. Their passive-aggressiveness that stops just short of a full blow-out feels realistic for a couple of teenagers (who didn't even start off particularly close) stuck in a death game. Fret has some really nice dynamics and I like how he gets his own little Hanekoma-esk arc trying to live up the the person an important role model in his life believed he could be. And I like that he stays silly!! He is God's goofiest little soldier and I love him for it.

Coco on the other hand is a character that I've never been particularly fond of, but for almost exclusively petty reasons lmao. I hate A New Day and everything it alludes to that neo ends up dropping (the fact that Neku and Minamimoto could have been partners is a fact that still GNAWS at my SOUL to this very day) and because she's introduced there (excluding her secret shop in Solo Remix) she kind of ends up becoming symbolic of that for me. I do not like a single writing decision that has been made with her. I hate that in A New Day you're supposed to just accept that "she's always been there" as if the MICROTRANSACTIONS STORE is canon. I hate that apparently she "needs to be connected to Joshua in some way" for anything about A New Day to make sense, I have no idea what that means. I hate that in neo she's pretty much left to wander aimlessly for 85% of the game waiting for her nearly abandoned plot thread to be tied up right before the finale. I think there's a lot to like about her if you look, but personal preference wise I just don't really care enough to bother.

As a duo? Hilarious. Coco's sick to death of Minamimoto refusing to pay back her favour of illegally resurrecting him (technically he didn't ask, just saying) so she kidnaps his favourite zeptogram and holds him for ransom. The stakes have never been higher for Mina. Not because he's particularly worried about Fret (what's Coco gonna do, huh? kill him? he wasn't even dead in the UG) but because he either has to ignore this and possibly get in shit for it later or commit to his half-baked domestication arc and have a custody battle with Coco in the middle of Center Street. Fret is absolutely elated. Mr. Minami is fighting over him? AND Neku's funny Reaper friend bought him ice cream?? This is the highlight of his week. Rindo has already called the cops.

So the Alola games made Sina an ice type specialist and Dexio a psychic type specialist. But they are literally a masked superhero duo, the defenders of Kalos, so why isn’t Sina a Dark type specialist to complement and contrast with Dexio’s psychic team?

There’s a weird version exclusivity they have, with the initial fight after you first meet them depending the version you’re playing. In Sun/Ultra Sun, your initial fight is against Dexio and in Moon/Ultra Moon, your initial fight is against Sina, but every battle afterwards is always against Dexio. In the Battle Tree, you can only encounter one of them; the inverse of the initial fights, Sina in Sun/Ultra Sun, Dexio in Moon/Ultra Moon.

So given this Sun/Moon duality they have, I ask again; why isn’t Sina a Dark type specialist? She only gets a single fight outside the Battle Tree where she uses two Pokemon; Delibird and Glaceon, with the former getting replaced by Smoochum in Ultra Moon.

There’s other characters they could’ve made ice type specialists, like Burnet, Wicke, a member of the Ultra Recon Squad, or any other notable character that I can’t think of at the moment. They could have also given their designated ice type specialist of the game more than a single battle that’s super early on. Dexio doesn’t get much screen time either, but he at least isn’t the sole psychic type specialist in Alola, since Faba’s around and is a character that’s important to the main plot.

Dexio gets a team of; Espeon, Alolan Raichu, Slowking, Metagross, Mega Alakazam and 10% Zygarde (last one is specific to the Ultra games) in his second and third fights, where he gives you access to megas, and Zygarde in Ultra. While Sina, once again, only gets a *single fight that’s version exclusive.*

So I’m giving Sina the team she fucking deserves, and no one can stop me. I’ll be using the Ultra Dex for a bit more variety. I kept Dexio’s team in mind when making it, since I think it’d be cute if both teams cover the other’s weaknesses, since they’re probably used to fighting together in double battles.

So here’s the team I’d give Sina; Umbreon, Mandibuzz, Bisharp, Pangoro, and Mega Houndoom (and maybe her own 10% Zygarde) I could potentially try to give Sina a proper ice type team at some point, but I like the idea of the two masked defenders of Kalos both contrasting and complementing one another.

I have some suggestions for your RWBY pokemon AU

I think Absol makes more sense as a pokemon either for Ruby, or, what I think is more fitting, for Qrow. Absol in the pokemon world is considered a harbinger of disaster because of its ability to sense oncoming calamities, and Qrow considers himself a bad luck charm and his weapon is called Harbinger, so I can imagine it being like, his signature pokemon, and maybe Ruby, wanting to emulate her Uncle, catches one for herself.

I also think Ruby and Yang's starters make more sense swapped around, Blaziken fits more with Yang (a hot headed fighting type) rather than Incineroar (a Dark type meant to emulate Heels in wrestling I.e the bad guys). Incineroar also fits better with Ruby's v1-v3 colours, though I also don't think a fire starter would fit Ruby, I think Sceptile fits more, as it's a fast pokemon that uses its leaves on its arms as blades, which I think fits Ruby better.

I'd also pick Rosarade over Florges but that's just my purrsonal preference.

Now for Weiss, my only suggestion  would be changing Corvinkight with something else, and I'm thinking Glaceon. I love the idea that Weiss as a child finds an injured Eevee in the large family garden and secretly takes care of it, but her father finds out and forces her to take it back to the wilds, but while out there it saves Weiss from several Beowolves and in the artic climate evolves into a Glaceon which Weiss then adopts.

Blake, id replace Absol with Greninja for aesthetic, but otherwise I would change Gallade's past, Ralts' only show themselves to trainers with strong positive emotions, so I can't see Adam ever having one, but I like the idea of maybe Blake and Yang being helped during the forest exam at Beacon by two Ralts/Kirlia's who they then take (Yang saying its the sign of their new partnership), and otherwise I would change Gallade for Gardevoir for Blake and have Gallade be Yang's pokemon, since it's a pokemon with strong morals and I feel fit Yang better.

Now for Yang, and other than the previous suggestions of Blaziken and Gallade as hers, I would replace Tyrantrum with Hitmontop, storywise I'd say that, when she's recovering post Beacon and on her way back from visiting Summer's grave, she encounters a Tyrouge rushing headfirst into fighting a stronger pokemon and getting seriously hurt, so Yang saves it and takes it home to recover. Despite all its injuries it still insists on training, Tai seeing this starts encouraging Yang to train with it, hoping it'll help her out. As both Yang and the Tyrouge bond and train, learning not to rush headfirst into battles and to adopt a more balanced fighting style, it evolves into Hitmontop to symbolise Yang's recovering and training.

And thats just RWBY, I have plenty of suggestions for JNPR, Sun, Ilia, Adam, Salem's forces, STQR, the Ace-Ops, Happy Huntresses and Neo~

my choice of absol for blake is because i knew about the lore implications of absol and thought it would be a tragic detail if an absol appeared before her trying to protect her from the travesties she's repetitively had to face. i might give one to qrow anyway because I'm not afraid of duplicates!!! i didn't think about any supporting adult pokemon teams quite yet!

i will be honest, the blaziken choice for ruby was mostly self indulgent :3 i love chickens and blaziken's aesthetic. notable moments in the anime stuck with me, like during xy's series when there was a vigilante "blaziken man" protecting luminous city - that's a big reason why i chose it for her, that kind of over the top kind of heroism i thought worked. as opposed to incenroar who fights dirty. early in rwby, yang is a very backhanded and not exactly noble kind of hero. just look at the "yellow" trailer, fucking shit up for self motivated reasons (good for her.) i thought it fit her! --- but i can absolutely see what you're saying with sceptile, that is another favorite of mine and i'd love to see her with a sceptile that could mega evolve!

i like the glaceon idea a lot too!!! the concepts of potential and direct reflection of her cold home - not to mention it's my second favorite eeveelution :D corviknight, yeah, it's my weakest link and i wanted to add it purely on the basis i'd like the snow queen to have her knight - but i think a glaceon would be much cuter, considering she already has plenty of stand ins for her glyphs!

I'm also interested about the greninja for the aesthetic! I'm not all that attached to the kalos starters so i tend to forget about them a lot more, i leaned on the "dark" type for blake but definitely didn't consider the. actual ninja pokemon. but i also tried to hold off on giving her a proper starter because in this little hc concept of mine, starters come specifically from pre-huntsmen schools (like signal in yang and ruby's case). i liked having the narrative of some students being "othered" by lacking starters - a visual tool when displaying their teams that they didn't have the opportunity to start where others did. not to say greninja couldn't have been a wild encounter or something else - fun to think about and really fits!

i DID not know about the kirlia lore though, i thought it was pretty weak when i was coming up with it and that is so interesting to know. i enjoy the idea of a pokemon switching allegiances from adam to protect blake but with this new information, I'll probably rewrite it in a way where the bee duo's ralts evos are more exclusive to them :3 i do like your idea of switching them, though, i tried to switch them to divert expectations, right (yang being a bit more masc than yang yet having a gardevoir, blake having the more showmanshy evo) but i might switch them. or i can just say the pokemon are practically shared and will switch up who they're paired with by their own choice. gf things <333

the hitmontop concept is really interesting for yang! it really does fit her - and i never paid attention to the line because, i will be honest, it never aesthetically pleased me, but narratively it works super well. i liked tyrantrum because i loved giving yang dragons and i also thought if she restored a tyrunt herself, it would be a nice indication of yang's genuine intelligence and wisdom. i don't like people boiling her down to a bimbo, haha funny stupid lesbian, but i feel like people also fail to recognize her genuine technical and social intelligence that she's portrayed throughout the series. then again, a hitmontop could show that emotional and protective instinct and intelligence she carries. it's sweet!! I'm torn!!!

The advanced Trojan horse: You can smuggle him almost anywhere when you wear a dress. Levi is kinda going crazy with your legs being so up close though. My, my. What an interesting undercover mission. Levi likes that. You, too. Wink wink nudge nudge.

When cooking, you fool around planting your underboob on Levi’s head while the oven does its thing. He’s cursing a bunch of things. But he can’t deny you’re funny and he really fits in that spot, too. Levi likes that.

Your height means more to scrub in the shower. Levi does not shy away from grabbing a sponge for the ladies as we know. Only select people he will foam up personally, so, this is a knighting. If you can shave him, he can shampoo you, it’s tit for tat. A very cleanly exchange. Levi likes that.

In the comfort of your room, not in his, nor his office or elsewhere, really when nobody is watching — Levi sits on your lap. Plenty of space, so. He fits snugly right there. Levi likes that.

You look great when you ride a horse and handle horses well in general. You can get on there in two seconds without delay. Speed is key. Levi likes that.

What’s not to like, anyway? Levi’s captain crush on you equals your height in terms of intensity.

Technically, you, like all other people, qualify as a brat. A tall, noodly brat. But you’re nice to him and vice versa: Don’t deliberately nor accidentally get on his nerves. So the most he’ll do is grumble at you where others would get a speech. If you make a mistake with the equipment, he won’t let it slide for obvious survival-related reasons, but his tone is noticeably gentler, a crucial tinge.

The whole squad — especially the rowdy members who tease him the most ironically — spirals into envy, but doesn’t say anything lest they want Levi’s frown and explanation on how they were messing around while you worked. The guy’s proud of it and wants to deservedly hype your ethic to be honest.

So let us just note that special fondness he has and let it sink in.

Under the guise of “establishing order”, Levi has an excuse to make his schtick for you heard: Indirectly.

Levi scolds anyone calling you bigfoot or titan girl. His supposed reason: They didn’t clean well. In reality, he’s mad they pick on you but he can’t say it.

The captain is concerned that people don’t ruin your day and he’ll do something about it. That’s pretty damn astounding. Levi hardly bothers getting into other people’s mood management and personal things.

Armin thinks it’s adorable when Levi casually walks between you and Hanji, likely headed somewhere to buy conveniences because Sasha is dying to get food. Connie calls it the ‘Levi Sammich’ and laughs his ass off every. Single. Time.

Mad titan scientist she is, Hanji’s latest experiment involves a two-person battle maneuver where you have to carry Levi piggyback. He initially declines, but it looks adorable indeed, actually. You don’t really have to put efforts into holding him in place awkwardly, his legs are strong. So much about two-person maneuvers, the two of you fight well as a duo, your bodies complement each other. Best believe the same feat applies to what happens between four bedposts.

In more casual settings, he dons his usual scowl when he stands next to you, but he thinks it's sexy that you look at his shoulders from above. You can see the weight on them.

He wishes he had your shoulders. But then again, he wouldn’t want to change bodies at the end of the day, as surprising as it sounds. Levi knows he needs to be a compact little unit to do what he does.

A lot of people taunt you as a couple, but after some time of always reacting with anger right away, he becomes cooler about his self-worth. Levi realizes — man, he knows who he is.

Should you ever faint, he can catch you with ease. Levi Ackerman is the last guy to get crushed by his gf, that we all know. He’s not afraid of your body or your weight. No cowardice, no shame, no questions asked.

And as we know. He got a thing with your legs, don’t even try. Legs legs legs leggy legs, that’s all there is on Levi’s brain when you don’t wear a uniform but skirts during leisure time. He tries to block out that thought, unsuccessfully.

Whenever you hit your hip or limbs at an awkwardly set-up table, Levi will position it elsewhere immediately. Low door frames he can’t do anything against, but he will tug at your sleeve twice every time you enter a room while walking behind you so you remember to stay alert. But your height difference also causes some upheaval at the start or the relationship and brings up some deeper wounds.

You can easily help tie Eren’s man bun way up there and that makes Levi extra jealous. In fact, he feels like imploding to the point of creating a black hole. Even Mikasa is fine with it because it’s all on a friendly basis with no thought behind it. Like it’s just helping Eren get his hair under control for squad practice. But Levi sees red:

Out of sheer Ackerspite, he will grow out the top part of his undercut and ask you to tie up his hair, too. This guy is on fire. Like hello, he wants your hands in his hair like that as well!

He orders Mikasa to take care of Eren’s “brat mop on his head” every morning “for the sake of the cleanly survey corps dress code” without exception. Eren is totally confused, Mikasa likes the idea, and you are shocked.

Damn, this guy doesn’t play.

He wants you to stroke and tie only his sacred hair if he’s entirely honest with himself. Best time of the day for him. Levi ends up looking like your smol samurai bodyguard with his new hairstyle. You could fancy that in the long run.

And... you know he is insecure. You always know. And, if you’re honest yourself, are glad to have permission to give him such deliberate affection because he values it so much.

Levi hardly builds any romantic bonds and if he does, he easily feels left out because the truth is, he’s needier than the average person. It’s difficult if there are only few people close enough for that, since Levi needs a lot.

Eren is no viable competition, but you decide you gotta make that clear to the touch-starved little guy. Since... In reality, the man bun discussion is not about Levi being petty just because. It’s about wanting to have that connection with you. And: Your attention. Levi doesn’t look like it, but he needs it. A metric ton.

In fact, Levi is the biggest love-deprived attention whore on the entire island and that’s a hard fact.

So, what to do about it. First: Clean slate needed, because you’re a bit annoyed, too.

You sit down for dinner and talk to Levi about how you are not interested in stealing Eren from Mikasa, nor do you think Levi looks ugly or invisible compared to Eren because of the height. You want to be a helpful squad member and he has no business imposing his brat hair rules to make himself exclusive out of fear, as if you would jump Eren as soon as he doesn’t look. And that he should say when he’s envious or wants something, point-blank. You’re very willing to give him all the attention to the moon and back alright.

Levi, grumpy at himself, apologizes for wanting to control the situation instead of saying that he wishes for time with you and makes tea.

He’s feeling mighty called out but owns up to all of this having been a knee-jerk response. Guy’s hard on himself, but that’s how he adapts his behavior.

The whole truth is, he knows that Eren is a lot easier to be around while he, Levi, is a complicated guy that is arguably hard to approach in random matters, even for loved ones.

He beats himself up for that and wants to be more emotionally and physically accessible to you so you can shower your affections on him the way you want to. That’s what it really boils down to.

That means fishing for old parts of his youth he didn’t allow. Levi wants to challenge himself to be more open to receiving. He knows he keeps his appeal on lock and it’s time to change that because he sees that you enjoy such closeness. Just the way he does, but secretly.

He also says to you that you can always touch him the way you desire after work.

Levi sees how you like being hands-on and how you do it, and makes it firm that you don’t have to walk on eggshells, hold back, or ask like it’s a delicate matter.

Levi sees relationships in simple terms: Since you’re together, of course you can touch him. It’s part of the whole thing by default to him and he even assumed you took it for granted like there’s telepathy going on.

In fact, brace yourself: For the lack of a better word, it’s even his expectation that this happens. Not like an obligation but as in, that you take opportunities is a given to him, he anticipates it.

You reply that it’s good he communicates this, it’s got to be outspoken. His views on how this whole thing goes has to be out in the open. It gives you a lot more clarity on his boundaries, too.

Before another bout of jealousy unearths more taken-for-granted things, Levi realizes he has to make up his mind that he has to talk about his limits.

So, he also says he entrusts it to you to find the very right moments for skinship.

That entails kissing and pinning and sitting close to another. And sex. Which is pretty damn enjoyable with him, the real fucking deal. So steamy. My God.

And he makes it clear he does his paperwork fast and you can always ask, he’s never too busy to postpone things entirely. He’d rather die the next day after winding in the sheets than handling paper. Levi can’t sleep anyways so it gets his mind off. It’s always welcome and he tells you not to be hesitant.

Levi is the type to absolutely pick up the cues right away — and proceed to really make out against a wall really intensely — so you’re under no obligation to wave a giant red cloth in front of him like he’s a Spanish bull or whatever. He gets the hints and goes along. Not to worry.

You also ask Levi what he thinks about you initiating romantic things and he shrugs — „Do what you want.“

The brand of romance Levi is out for you can already guess anyways. Tea and more tea.

For now, that’s where you agree to “leave it at that” after he thanks you for being straightforward.

You launch your first affections before bedtime. He lets you sleep in his bed, damn right. You really have to be a priority to be able to reside there, I’m telling you. Levi rests with one eye open and in his harness, you have all the blanket for yourself to cuddle up in. That won’t stop you from peppering his face with a few very deliberately placed smooches.

Levi can’t deny he’s a sucker for getting forehead kisses. He drops his hygiene protocol just for that. Safe to say his man bun jealousy from earlier that day cools off in no time. Not to say it shatters completely when you go for the gold that is his pretty little mouth. He’s so overwhelmed emotionally, he almost cries. Levi never thought someone would do this with him.

You repeat the same thing next day, behind the barracks after sunset. Levi holds you real tight. He’s so addictive in the best way. Going by how breathless it all winds up to be, he doesn’t want the kisses to end.

What your height is handy for here? He can gaze up to the night sky when he locks lips with you. Levi, as we know, likes seeing the moon and training his neck flexibility anyways. But that’s not the purpose behind why he’s so down to kiss you so passionately, rest assured.

If he tiptoes a little, he can park his pretty face under your chin after you both ran out of air. Levi’s drug... your long neck. He thinks it smells so good.

"Since we have a new student today, I'm planning to carry out a Battle Trial for all of you."

Mr. Ok announced with a pleasing smile on his face. The class started to shout and cheer loudly which made your eyebrows furrow as you never know how the sudden event works. On the other hand, Sana was also happy at your adviser's news but seeing your reaction, she had a hunch that you probably had no idea what it was about.

"Uhm, if you're wondering what a Battle Trial is, it's like a test? We'll be grouped into different numbers of teams and that's how the combat will begin!" the girl said with enthusiasm.

You just nodded and thanked the latter before turning your eyes away from her captivating aura, it was something too much you can handle. Nevertheless, you decided to just relax until a harsh ball of wind smacks your head abruptly. You almost fell off your chair but luckily Sana had caught your arm on time, and if she didn't, you would probably be known as a newcomer who lets herself plummet down the floor of her classroom. Don't forget, you're the renowned 'Golden Child' too... Imagine how embarrassing that could be.

"Lalisa Manoban, you little bitc–"

Before you could curse the hell out of her, Mr. Ok had spoken up once again, "It seems like we're all ready… Shall we head to the Gym Gamma?"

The class answered 'yes' in unison before they made a beeline outside of the room. You could hear Lisa snickering behind your back which made you grumble under your breath, you faced the latter quickly and guided your right hand over her wrists. You created an ice chain around it before smirking playfully.

"Get lost."

After arriving at the said training area, Mr. Ok immediately ushers all of you to change into your own training suits. Sana never left your side too as you and your classmates walked to the large cemented stadium. 

Then the boys and girls were divided at the moment, each of them changing from their uniforms into their own training outfits. You went ahead to the lockers nearby and scanned through the assigned names of each compartment just to find yours. After a while, you finally saw it by the farthest end and immediately pushed the password in. A blue tracksuit was provided inside the compartment and there's a few hygiene supplies in a small pouch. You shrugged your shoulders nonchalantly before grabbing the suit and undoing the first few buttons of your blouse.

"I would appreciate it if you would like to show off your body, Kang." you recognized your cousin's voice. 

"But do it when we're alone, okay?" 

You chuckled at her tone as you faced Dahyun who was already dressed in her own suit. You gave her a pat on the cheek before whispering, "Got it, Miss Kim."

She pushed you playfully into one of the partitions which successfully got you to start changing your clothes, decently.

Dahyun waited for you, and after a few minutes, you finally got out and thanked the latter. She puts her arm around your shoulder before pulling you out of the dressing room. 

"So~ How have you been doing lately?" she beams while the two of you regrouped with the other students.

"Hmm, I'm doing great," you replied. "Still sulking about this whole school and shit…"

She chuckled at your sudden change of mood, "You know how mischievous your sister is, and you wouldn't even realize it. And maybe… you can even learn more about your mother if you study here."

You just nodded languidly.

'Right... I should know more about the Mistress.'

"Everyone! Please gather around the center please!" Mr. Ok yells with excitement as he clasps his hands together.

All of the students followed their adviser's order as they stood in the middle of the stadium. You slipped your hands inside the pockets of your suit before glancing at Lisa who's currently chatting with a certain brunette.

You watched them closely, noticing the cat-like eyes of the other girl which looks significantly familiar. Nevertheless, you huffed out a sigh before moving your attention away from the two.

"Before officially starting our Battle Trial, I would like to call out our dear Class Representative," the studly man stated, then a girl immediately struts beside Mr. Ok. which made your eyebrow raise with interest.

"Sassy…" you muttered under your breath which earned a hit on your shoulder from the pale skinned girl by your side.

"For the one who's new, Im Nayeon is the name." the girl remarked as she gave you a look that you couldn't comprehend.

You bowed your head slightly and gave her a fake smile, the latter dismissed it quickly by continuing what she was tasked to say.

"Our class will be grouped to Mr. Ok's choices of teams and the fight will begin as soon as possible," Nayeon said eloquently. "Your team's main goal is just to avoid being knocked out or you could be the one who will knock your enemies out. That's all, and I wish you guys to do your best."

Your classmates started to holler around, giving the Class Rep an earnest attention. The certain latter just grins arrogantly before folding her arms onto her chest.

"Okay, moving on! Shall I start picking all of the teams?"

Mr. Ok's mouth curves in a slightest hint of smirk. But that alone, makes chills run down on your spine.

'Ahh shit, just what the hell is this fine man planning…'

"Starting off with--" teams were started to be formed, ranging from solos, duos, and trios. Coincidentally, you were grouped with that cat-eyed girl from earlier and a boy whom you never met before. They stood awkwardly, clearly keeping an obvious distance from your alluring frame. This made you chuckle quietly as you decided to greet them politely, "Uhm, hello. I'm Y/n and please, make yourselves comfortable."

Both of their eyes widen as the boy scrambles to acknowledge your sudden greetings. Meanwhile, the girl pulls herself together and just gives you a simple smile, "You can call me Jennie. By the way, I heard a lot about you from Lisa."

"Ahh, I see. That weirdo must have told you some unnecessary things as well so I would like to apologize in advance." your statement made Jennie laugh softly before she lifts one of her hands and waves it dismissively. "Don't worry, those things would be exclusive between the three of us only."

You just nodded sheepishly and changed the topic, "And you are–"

"Oh! Right, how rude of me. I'm Chan and I hope we'll be good friends from now on, mate." you gave him a passive smile and gladly accepted his friendly aspiration.

The three of you started to chat smoothly after that short introduction with each other. You learned that Jennie's quirk is Perfect Aim while Chan's quirk is Vibrate. Jennie further explained that her quirk allows her to use any weapon with accuracy in an agile manner, then Chan also explained that his quirk allows him to generate vibration or shockwaves through any kind of medium.

You instantly try to analyze their weaknesses whilst formulating a strategy in your head that could helpfully put your team at an advantage. Then, you proceeded to explain your quirk to them, the two of them were secretly doubting your power as you never showed it to the public. Nevertheless, they have no choice but to trust you in this round of the Battle Trial.

"Calling the next contenders!" Mr. Ok calls out. "Jennie, Y/n, and Chan versus Nayeon, Ten, and Gahyeon."

The six of you immediately walked inside the cemented platform. You glanced at your teammates and thankfully, they seemed pumped up which made you feel a little at ease. Your other classmates began to murmur as they were in awe due to the incoming line-up of contenders, with Nayeon being one of the top 5 students of Leidenschaft Univeristy, with you being the 'Golden Child', and the rest being one of the best students in Class 1-A. 

You reached down to your waist and unclipped your beloved metal mask from one of the hooks of your training pants. It was an essential equipment that you need while full-on using your quirk as it regulates your respiration, this was recommended for you to use because you often have a hard time breathing when utilizing your abilities without using your mask.

"Please prepare your stance," Mr. Ok said as he slips the whistle between his lips. "The round will begin  in 3…"

"2…" you exhaled heavily before heightening your senses.

"1…" a smirk started to form in the corner of your lips.

"START!"

A growl of thunder erupted from outside of the stadium, then you quickly picked up the change of color in Nayeon's eyes. Her orbs shined in yellow as she blasted a large charge of lightning towards your direction. You barely blocked her attack, instantly forming a shield of glaciers from the weight of your right foot. 

You hoisted yourself sideways and began blasting ice balls towards the latter. One of them successfully hit her leg which gave you a chance to check on Jennie and Chan's situation. They were doing quite fine as Gahyeon and Jennie were against each other while that goes the same with Ten and Chan.

"Hey! I'm the one you're fighting with right now, you know," Nayeon taunted as she forms a makeshift lightning sword and swiftly jabbed it to your chest. 

You groaned at the buzzing sensation spreading throughout your body, nevertheless, it didn't last long which made the spectators by the side gasp in surprise. Nayeon was strong as hell, and no one could last from her electrocution if she applied it thoroughly.

"Nice try, Nayeon-ssi." you grinned smugly before grabbing her forearm and freezing her whole dominant arm. "But I don't think charging such low strength can bring me down just like how you think it is," you crossed your left feet into her right ankle and quickly pushed her over.

The shocked bunny-like girl was caught off guard which resulted in the two of you toppling down to the ground. In the spur of the moment, your left hand held the back of her head so it wouldn't hurt Nayeon so much since the fall itself was pretty rough.

FWEET!!!

The sound of Mr. Ok's whistle resonated loudly but it didn't make you or Nayeon budge from the intense gaze that the two of you are sharing. Her piercing glare sent shivers down your spine but you didn't let her take over, your eyes reflected a nonchalant and unbothered look which triggered the latter's growing anger more.

"Ehem… Uhh, are you guys planning to stay in that position for the whole time?" your adviser teasingly said which put the rest of the class into a fit of laughter.

Nayeon immediately pushes your hand and body away before storming off to the changing room. You just chuckled lightly at her bratty attitude before lifting yourself up.

Meanwhile, Jennie and Chan shared a meaningful look with each other, making sure that they'll never let you go and will start to bug you about the 'tension' between you and Miss Class Representative.

"Moving on!" Mr. Ok clapped his hands for a few times which fortunately got the attention of the whole class.

"We got Jennie, Chan, and Y/n as the winner of this round! The three of you will get full marks for today," he announced shortly before scribbling something into his pad of notes.

"And don't worry Ten and Gahyeon, the two of you did great too… that applies to Nayeon as well."

The man continued his statement before letting the five of you out of the platform, instantly commencing the next fight with a new line-up of students. 

You distanced yourself away from anyone before heating your body up due to your almost-freezing skin from your previous ministrations. Heaving a sigh of relief, you removed your metal mask and let it hang around your neck as fog of your breaths came out of your mouth.

"Y/n!" 

It was Chan and Jennie, they gave you a nudge with a grin on their own faces which you would gladly smack off if you were given the chance.

"What?" you knitted your eyebrows together at their sudden disturbance.

"I think someone has taken a liking towards Nayeon~" the cat-eyed girl remarks which made you scoff as you rolled your eyes at the same time.

"You wish," you playfully pushed her shoulder. "Anyways, you guys did a great job earlier. Although, I was too pre-occupied due to Miss 'Sassy Ass Bitch' that I couldn't watch you guys fight at all."

The two just chuckled and gave you a pat on the back, "Don't worry, we actually enjoyed the show-off between you and Nayeon."

"Yeah, right," you shrugged them off and as you were about to leave, Jennie grabs your arm then leans incredibly close to your face.

"I know you're holding out," she whispered in sultry laced tone. "And that's pretty disappointing for someone like you," you can feel her pushing a finger against your chest.

"You're scared to loose control, aren't you? Especially with that flames of yours…"

You were utterly confused at her vast knowledge, but your blood started to boil as your mind started to be flooded with memories that you despise the most. A sharp pain suddenly shoots through your temple which made you wince as you closed your eyes in silent agony.

'No... Please stop...'

Those memories, it was all tainted with hatred, violence, and unpleasant recollection of your upbringing. It was a whole, opposite side that no one knows except you and him.

"How did you..." a few students nearby began to shudder as you unconsciously began to emit your dark aura.

Jennie immediately noticed this.

The girl caressed your cheek then just left a kiss on it before strutting away to her other friends. You continued to grit your teeth in silence which didn't went unnoticed by Chan.

"She can be feisty at times," he gives you a comforting rub on the back to make you calm down.

"Just don't let her get into your nerves, that would make her more gutsy." he showed you a soft smile as his gaze averted to something, or someone behind you.

"Y/n?"
