So over the past few weeks, I’ve been toying with the idea of writing a retelling of the OG series from Annabeth’s perspective.
I’m interested in doing this because though I loved the PJO when I was a child, as I grow older, I find myself craving more nuance from the stories and the characters than what’s already there on the page. I thought hopefully the show would fulfill me, but uhh….amazing character depth is not one of the things I’d call the show’s biggest strong suits, at least not for Annabeth.
Now, I’m aware of the “Daughter of Wisdom” series on AO3, a fanfic series that does the exact same thing. I read that fic years ago and enjoyed it; I thought at the time that the fic was well done. However, I have a lot of ideas for scenes and details that I don’t think really showed up in that fic series, and so I find myself craving to create the POV for Annabeth and certain aspects of CHB that I’ve always wanted to see. I also wanted to spend more time emphasizing emotions and growth for Annabeth in a fic like this, and actually have her challenge and address her pride, sort of like a “I’m overcoming my biggest flaw” journey. I want to write this series from a sympathetic yet honest perspective about Annabeth’s life and her traits…including the traits that are not so pretty.
And so I want input from y’all on what you think would be worth including in a fic like this, and if there’s anything from the OG books that I should change, twist, replace, remove, deepen, or add something new. Here’s a list I already have going:
- emphasis on Annabeth’s relationship with Chiron and how it develops
- more emphasis on Annabeth’s relationship with Grover and how they get along when Percy isn’t there. Do they talk about Percy? And what do they think of each other? Does Grover feel intimidated by Annabeth, or feel like maybe she’s not proud of him because he let her down with the Cyclops incident and Thalia getting killed? Maybe at the end of the quest in TLT, before Percy gets back from Olympus, Annabeth reassures Grover that he’s a great protector and that she doesn’t resent him at all.
- Annabeth’s view of Luke and how/why it becomes complicated; how Annabeth reconciles the objectively bad things Luke has done with her desire for his redemption
- an emphasis on Annabeth and Thalia’s relationship after Thalia returns. How has it changed, Thalia remarking on Annabeth’s growth and teasing her about her crush on Percy, Annabeth helping Thalia cope with the loss of Luke to the “dark side” and also helping Thalia cope with how much the world has changed in 5 years and how Thalia now feels so out of place, Thalia helping Annabeth cope with continuous family struggles
- an emphasis on Annabeth’s relationship with other Athena children. Do they like each other? Hate each other? Are they competitive, all vying for their mom’s attention? Do they share some of Annabeth’s struggles; were their mortal parents also unimpressed about receiving a child they didn’t plan for?
- Annabeth’s relationship with other kids at camp: namely Clarisse, Silena, Beckendorf, and the Stoll Brothers (no, I don’t ship Connabeth, btw). But I also want to flesh out Katie Gardner and Pollux/Castor too.
- a proper resolution to Annabeth’s family drama that yes, recognizes how Frederick had a baby sprung on him that he didnt consent to, and how Mrs. Chase had no idea how to take care of a kid with special needs, but a resolution that also validates Annabeth’s feelings and highlights the ways in which Mr. and Mrs. Chase messed up and failed her with their poor choices.
- a new interpretation of Luke’s “did you love me”question
- An on-page apology from Annabeth to Rachel
- Annabeth’s relationship with her little brothers and how they might still try to love each other in context of their family drama, and not repeat the sins of their parents (breaking generational curses!)
- more emphasis on Annabeth and Athena’s relationship, and how Annabeth evolves from thinking her mother is this image of perfection, to realizing that Athena is just as faulty as the other gods and goddesses, and that Annabeth has a strength over Athena in that Annabeth has a bigger sense of humanity, and can change and adapt when she’s not doing something well. Annabeth can evolve in ways Athena cannot.
Anything else?

Okay so @green-tea217 requested that I share this fanfic based on this post that I made.
I never usually post my fanfics, but I’m feeling brave. This one isn’t finished, but I’ll post the first chapter ‘cause I’m really proud of it. I’m working on the other fanfics that were requested, but I’m posting this one first because I’ve worked rlly had on it.
Summary: Kind of an OC/FanChild fic about my hcs for Percabeth’s kids. VERY Leo/Nico heavy bc they’re my two favourite characters, particularly Leo.
TWs: Swearing, lack of smut (she is a teenager)
Disclaimers: I was still reading SoN when I wrote this chapter, and I am currently on HoH, so if I’ve missed anything that gets revealed later, that’s why. Also I listened to the audiobooks, so if I spell a name wrong, that’s also why, either that or I’ve spelt something the British way.
Chapter 1:
Olympia hated stories.
She hated telling them. She hated hearing them. She hated the way they were often twisted and bent to contain some kind of message. She hated the theatrics of sharing them around the fire, the hushed voices and dramatic tone. And she hated how every story she heard was almost always about her dad.
Olympia Grace Jackson-Chase.
Of course.
For as long as she can remember, people had told her stories about her parents. About her and her birth. How she had been born on Olympus. How Apollo himself had delivered her, and named her “Olympia Grace” so that it would rhyme with her last name. That wasn’t entirely true. “Grace” was the last name of her Auntie Thalia and Uncle Jason. She hated the stories about them too- about all her parents’ friends. They were myths and legends in the eyes of the other campers, to her they were just people who babysat her sometimes. The Cabin 9’ers had been shocked when she’d told them that the heroic son of Hephaestus who had saved the world from Gaea and her evil forces was actually just Little Uncle Leo, and the first Fire User in three and a half centuries isn’t very mythical and legendary when he’s running in from the kitchen, waving a tea-towel at the fire alarm and yelling “Oh shit, the guacamole’s on fire. I set the guacamole on fire. Don’t tell your mom.”
People never wanted to hear those stories. Only the exiting and dangerous ones.
“Percy Jackson fought the Minotaur when he was only ten years old!!!”
“Percy Jackson keeps insisting I tidy my room.”
Suffice it to say, she was sick of it.
“Dad,” she asked, approaching the kitchen table.
Perseus Jackson, the man, the myth, the legend himself, looked up from his comic book and ginned at her.
“What is it, dolphin?”
“Can you… like… not send me to camp this year?”
Her dad frowned, put The Amazing Spider-Man down on the table and leaned back in his chair.
“Why? What’s up? Are the other campers not nice to you there?”
“It’s not that… in fact, it’s the opposite. The attention is getting too much. I wanna learn to fight, but… I’d rather you just teach me yourself. You can show me how to use my water powers.”
“Oly, I know it’s hard, especially as you’re one of the first Legacies at Camp Half-Blood. I can absolutely arrange for you to not go anymore if you don’t want to… but there’s only so much I can teach you on my own, particularly with your mother’s workload. I want to make sure you’d be protected. Could you maybe give it a try, please?”
Olympia was pretty sure she’d been “giving it a try” for the last 14 summers, but she didn’t want to argue with her dad.
“Fine,” she said.
“That’s my girl,” he beamed, “Now, remember to pack your armour for Capture the Flag, I don’t want to have to drive out there and back just ‘cause you forgot it again.”
She sighed and left the room.
She just wished that he had stayed in the car when he’d dropped her off, but no. He insisted on walking with her to the Big House, saying hello to Chiron and generally being a huge embarrassment. It didn’t take long for the crowds of campers to form around them, whispering behind their hands. She hugged her dad, and said goodbye to him as quickly as she could.
She dumped her things in the Poseidon Cabin. She was allowed in both her mom and her dad’s old cabins, but she preferred to be alone to sleep. She did her activities with the Athena kids though, she didn’t want to stand out any more than she already did.
Olympia sat alone, perched on the edge of the Athena table, when suddenly a kid shuffled up next to her. She looked about twelve, with the same grey eyes of her mother.
“What’s your name?” The girl asked.
“Olympia Jackson-Chase,” Olympia sighed.
“I’ve noticed you doing cabin activities with us, but you don’t sleep with the other Athenians? What’s up with that?”
Olympia took a deep breath, and began to explain, “I’m a-“
“Wait. Jackson-Chase?” The kid gasped.
Oh, here we go, Olympia thought, preparing for the usual swooning and/or geeking out.
“Your mother was Annabeth Chase?”
Olympia was slightly taken aback, “Usually, people talk mostly about my father. I’m always “The daughter of Percy Jackson,” never “the daughter of Annabeth Chase.””
“Oh but she’s a legend! She re-designed Olympus! She led our cabin in battle against the Titans! She even held up the sky! I mean, I know your dad did that too, but-“
“She did it for longer. She was under that thing for over a day, he only held it for at most 20 minutes.”
The girl laughed.
“And, if you ask me, she was the one who did all the work when it came to defeating Kronos. Dad did jack shit, just handed a knife to a guy.”
“Exactly! Just because he was in the Prophecy-“
“Nah, it’s a lot simpler than that,” Olympia said, “It’s because he’s a man.”
They sat in silence for a bit.
She never blamed her dad for overshadowing her mom. He didn’t mean to. In fact, he openly hated the stories that didn’t recognise her for all she did. They were so in love, it was sickening.
“I can’t believe she’s, like, my sister.”
The girl gasped, and grabbed Olympia’s arm, “Wait, does that make me your aunt?”
Olympia shook her head, “Don’t bother with family trees, man, otherwise you get into the whole “my dad’s dad is my mom’s mom’s uncle, which makes me kinda my mom’s second cousin, and my dad her cousin-once-removed”- it’s just too much to get your head around.”
She looked directly into the girl’s grey eyes, “My advice, kid, believe whatever bullshit they tell you about the Gods not having DNA, and just try not to think about it.”
The girl’s face fell. “Oh.”
Then she looked exited again, “Did you come out of her tummy or her head like I did with my mom?”
And there we go, Olympia thought. Geez, they didn’t hesitate to ask the really invasive questions, did they?
She took her three-pronged fork out of her pocket, and fidgeted with it, twirling it in her fingers. Instantly, she realised her mistake.
“Why do you carry a fork around and never eat with it?” The girl asked. More questions.
Might at well get it over with, she thought.
“Gift from Grandpa,” she replied.
“A gift from Poseidon? What does it do?”
She sighed again, and dangled the fork over the girl’s glass of orange juice, and let go. It dropped into the glass with a satisfying plop, and then rose to the surface. No, it wasn’t rising. It was growing. It’s shaft elongated, and the prongs stretched to become longer and way more deadly. Intricate designs started carving itself into the metal. Olympia stood up, and grabbed the shaft of the fork just as it finished growing. A three-pronged death skewer of pure celestial bronze. A Trident.
The surrounding campers gaped at her, open-mouthed.
“Woah,” said one of the Hephaestus campers, clearly someone who hadn’t seen the spectacle before.
“OLYMPIA JACKSON-CHASE! NO WEAPONS AT THE DINNER TABLE! CAMP RULES! YOU OF ALL PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW THAT!!”
“Sorry Chiron,” Olympia called. She twisted a little ring of metal around the shaft of the trident, and it shrank back into a fork. She sat back down.
“It responds to water,” she explained, “get it wet, and boom, Trident.”
She had named it Blue. It was her first word, after all. Or at least, that was the story. Poseidon had given it to her on her second birthday, and she had just looked at it, holding it in her tiny fist, and cried “bloooo!” It was probably just baby babbling, but Dad said it counted.
“So what’s Poseidon like? Do you have water powers too? Can you get me your mom’s autograph? Is your dad really 7ft tall?”
She ate the rest of her lunch in silence, only answering the onslaught of questions from the young camper when she had to.
Cabin 3 offered a pleasant respite from the crowds and the people. She dropped her armour and weapons from the day’s activites by the door and kicked off her shoes.
She looked at herself in the mirror.
Tumblr media
(Drawing of Olympia: Art by me)
Her curly black hair, which she’d dyed the tips of blonde, was pulled back into a messy ponytail. Around her neck hung a necklace of leather chord, fourteen different coloured beads threaded onto them, each painted with a different design. Her broad shoulders and thick muscles bulged through her plain navy-blue tank top. Her skin was tanned from spending long hours training in the sun. She had a battle-hardened look to her that meant people often mistook her for a daughter of Ares. But her eyes was what made her stand out most- one grey, like her mother, one green, like her father. Her parents had told her how her birth had ended the centuries-long feud between Poseidon and Athena for good, and she had been given those eyes as a way of symbolising that. Another story. It felt like every part of her body had been attached to a story about something her parents had done. Why couldn’t she just be herself? She had spent 16 years living under the shadow of her parents, she was homeschooled from an early age, and had been going to camp since before she could even hold a sword- the demigod life was all she’d ever known. Someday, she’d get away from it all. She’d sink to the bottom of the Mariana Trench and just study the fish, and she wouldn’t have to worry about people or monsters
Suddenly, she felt something tap her on her shoulder. Quick as lightning, she grabbed Blue and spun around. Blue, still in fork form, was about a centimetre away from the neck of her intruder, who held up his hands in surrender.
“Whoah there!” He said.
When she saw who it was, she lowered the weapon and pulled him into a tight hug.
“Leo!” She cried.
“Hey, how’s my favourite cousin? Or… whatever.”
She looked at him and smiled. Despite him being old enough to be her dad, he was about half her size. With a thin, wiry frame and very little meat on his bones. His wild, curly brown hair framed his pointed face and elfish features. His dark skin was covered in a thin layer of motor oil and grime of unknown origin. He tapped her cheek affectionately, leaving a grubby handprint on her face. He walked over to her bed and leaped onto the top bunk, his legs dangling off the ladder.
“You need to stop growing,” he instructed, “You are getting too big, it’s not fair.”
“You need to stop being so short,” Olympia retorted, then her face broke into a huge smile, “I feel like I never see you anymore!”
“I know, you’re too old for me to babysit now, kiddo,” He complained.
“Well that always ended in disaster anyway. There’s still burn marks on that wall.”
“Did your mom find out?” He asked.
“Nope. Dad told her he just wanted to hang more pictures up. And then he went on a long speech about how nice she looked in that wedding photo, and then took her out for ice cream. I think she bought it.”
“Good.”
They stayed in comfortable silence for a few seconds, and then she asked, “So… it’s great that you’re here and all, but… why are you here?”
“What, I can’t come and visit my favourite partner in crime every now and then?”
“Leo…” Her tone was firm.
Leo’s face was suddenly dark and serious, he paused before speaking, but said, “I think I have news about your brother.”
That was Chapter 1- if this post gets… let’s say… 30 notes, I’ll post Chapter 2.

Writing Prompt AU: Childhood Best Friends to Lovers
PART 5: Age 16
Luke and Thalia break up on homecoming night.
It’s only an hour into the night when Percy watches Luke drag Thalia out of the hall and into the parking lot. Even though it’s been months since Percy has hung out with either of them, he keeps an eye on the two, watching as their silhouettes point accusatory fingers at each other.
Annabeth and Grover, who he came to the dance with, are swaying playfully on the dance floor, but he waves them over and nods to the open door that Thalia left, exposing her and Luke as they shout at each other.
“Should we check on them?” Grover asks, biting his thumb anxiously. Percy shrugs and watches Annabeth. Well, at this point, he’s always watching Annabeth, especially tonight because she’s in a dress he’s never seen before, and it’s the colour of the sea, his favourite.
“Annabeth?”
“It’s not our business,” she says softly, but her eyes never leave the couple. Percy nods, and keeps his eyes trained on them, worry growing in his throat as Thalia steps closer to Luke, getting in his personal space.
Even from here, Percy can feel Luke’s anger, it’s potent and vile and he almost doesn’t recognise it on his old friend’s face. He’s about to tell Annabeth that they should intervene when someone lightly taps him on the shoulder. He whirls around, surprised, and forces a smile onto his face when he sees that it’s Rachel Elizabeth Dare.
“Hey Percy.”
Her voice catches Grover and Annabeth’s attention and they both turn to look at her as well. She doesn’t buckle under their gaze, keeping her bright eyes on Percy like she’s on a mission.
“Hey Rachel, what’s up?”
“I was wondering if maybe you wanted to dance?” She says it confidently, but as soon as she’s done, she bites her lip and starts swaying back and forth on her feet like she can’t stand still.
Dread fills Percy’s body and he struggles to come up with a nice way to say no because he really does not want to dance, not right now.
Rachel must see it on his face because she gives him a sad smile and nods slowly. More dread fills his body and he glances anxiously to his friends at his side who are also waiting for an answer. Annabeth is frowning deeply and Grover has this sort of amused look on his face.
“Right, that’s okay, uh, have a nice-” She starts and begins to walk away. Percy sighs and quickly reaches out, grabbing her wrist, when she pulls back he lets go quickly and holds his hands up in surrender.
“Wait- Rachel. Sorry,” he stutters unsure of why he stopped her. He can feel his friends gaze on him as he speaks to Rachel but he doesn’t turn, “Yes.”
“Yes, what?” Rachel asks, narrowing her eyes suspiciously.
“Yes, I’ll dance.” Her face instantly brightens and he holds out a hand, which she takes.
Before he properly leaves, he quickly turns to Grover and Annabeth, whose mouth is wide open.
“Come get me if something happens with Thals and Luke.” Grover nods but Annabeth just stares after him like he’s speaking another language. He ignores the tight knot in his stomach and lets Rachel lead him to the dance floor, placing his hands lightly on her waist.
“What made you change your mind?”
“Hmm?”
“You weren’t going to dance with me, what made you change your mind?” Percy blushes at the bluntness of her words and tries to come up with another excuse. As they’re swaying to the music, he steps back and spins her a bit as the song reaches the chorus.
When he can’t think of an excuse he tells the truth.
“I wanted to see if I would feel a difference.” Rachel frowns and tilts her head at him confused. “I- uh, like someone else, and I’ve been trying to stop. I thought maybe if I danced with someone else I would feel different about them.”
“Why do you want to stop liking them?” Rachel doesn’t even seem fazed that he’s just confessed he likes someone else.
“Because she, I don’t know, I think she likes someone else, but she doesn’t realise it. So it’s just easier if I don’t like her.” Rachel loops her arms around his neck, pulling him closer, so close he can smell her floral perfume. It matches the brightly coloured flowers on her dress.
“Well if I’m not mistaken, Annabeth hasn’t taken her eyes off of us the entire dance so I think you’re all good Percy.”
“What?” Instantly he pulls his gaze away from Rachel and turns around wildly to look at where he last saw Annabeth. She’s not looking when he sees her, but he does catch sight of her flicking quick glances at him in between her conversation with Grover as the song ends and as Rachel walks him back to them.
“How’d you know?” He asks Rachel, trying to figure out what gave him away.
“Just a feeling. You should tell her.” When Percy doesn’t answer Rachel smiles and wiggles her fingers as a goodbye. “Thanks for the dance Percy, I’ll see you around.”
He lifts a hand up as well, still too surprised at how easily she was able to read him.
“Have fun?” Annabeth asks with pursed lips.
Percy shrugs, “Yeah I guess. She’s pretty cool.”
“Hmph.”
Annabeth turns back to facing the door so that she can watch Thalia and Luke (who are still fighting) while Percy turns to Grover behind her back and tries to ask Grover what her problem is via extreme facial expressions. Grover scrunches his shoulders up and shrugs, saying he doesn’t know and Percy sighs, running a hand through his hair.
Out of nowhere, Annabeth’s hand slaps his wrist.
“Hey!”
“Stop messing up your hair.” She says, without turning to him.
“Who are you, my Mom?” He asks and keeps messing it up because it feels weird all gelled down and sticky.
“No but you never have your hair like that and I want nice photos of us later.”
“I look like an idiot.”
“That’s because you are, Seaweed Brain.”
“Whatever.”
“Oh shut-”
A loud crack catches both of their attention and they both turn to the direction of the sound and see Thalia standing at the doorway, her fury tangible in her stance as she walks towards them. Behind her Percy barely glimpses a look at Luke who is cradling his face, blood seeping from his nose, where Percy assumes Thalia has just punched him.
He doesn’t even fully register that she’s come up to them until she’s talking.
“I know you probably hate me right now, but I can’t be here anymore. I’ll explain everything, but can one of you take me home please.”
Annabeth is already opening her purse and handing the keys to Percy. He’s the better driver out of the two, and she’s already wrapping her arms around Thalia, who is fighting back tears.
In less than 5 minutes the four of them are packed in Annabeth’s Dad’s old car and Percy is carefully pulling out of the parking lot and taking them to Annabeth’s house.
Thalia doesn’t speak until they’re all situated in Annabeth’s room. Percy has taken off his second-hand suit jacket, loosened his tie and unbuttoned his shirt, and Grover is pulling clothes from Annabeth’s drawer, throwing pieces at Percy so they can both change into comfier clothes.
As he’s about to change Annabeth pokes him sharply.
“Photos Percy!” She reminds, and he rolls his eyes, rebuttoning his shirt.
Thalia waits for them to settle, Percy and Annabeth on her bed, and Grover on the window sill before she speaks.
“Okay, so I want to start by saying sorry. It’s been months since I’ve spoken to any of you and I totally get if you hate me for that, but I do have a reason, but also it’s okay if you don’t forgive me because I wouldn’t forgive me either.”
“Thals,” Annabeth whispers. She looks like she’s about to cry and Percy can see her hands fidgeting like they want to move and grab something. He reaches over to her bedside table and gives her a fidget toy, and then carefully takes her other hand, rubbing soothing circles around the top of her palm.
She doesn’t say anything, but she squeezes his palm in thanks.
“Let me talk first Annabeth before you say anything. I want to make sure I say this all right.”
So she talks. Thalia starts from the beginning, how she’s always loved Luke, and how when he moved, she called him each day, and they never lost contact, and how him turning up wasn’t a surprise to her because they’d been talking about it for months already. She talks about how it was her first relationship with someone ever, and she’d never liked someone this much in her life, so she didn’t realise that spending every breathing moment with him wasn’t normal. At one point Thalia takes off her suit jacket and loosens her own tie. Annabeth offers a change of clothes but Thalia shakes her head, determined to continue with the story. She continues to say that Luke started acting differently when they officially started dating, started telling Thalia not to hang out with them because he only wanted to spend time with her, and that they were saying things about her behind her back.
“I knew it wasn’t true, but I didn’t want to fight with him, everything felt so perfect when we were together. I just wanted us to not fight. So I let him pull me away from you guys.”
This time when Annabeth squeezes Percy’s hand, it’s in warning, because he realises that he’s using her hand as a stress ball. He apologises silently by letting go, and loosely threading their fingers together so that he doesn’t accidentally hurt her.
“It didn’t get bad until last summer when I told him that I missed you guys and that I wanted to be friends with you again. It got even worse when I told him that I might like girls as well as guys.”
Percy sees her hold her breath as she says the last part and feels his face split open into a grin.
“Me too,” he says simply and the smile that Thalia gives him back is enough for Percy to forgive her of everything. I’m proud of you, he mouths so that he doesn’t interrupt her story.
“I don’t know why it was such a big issue, but he kept bringing it up. He never went a day without saying something about it, and it was never nice. I hated it. He made me feel like I wasn’t allowed to like both, and I realised that I just wasn’t happy with him. I was so sad all the time, and all I wanted was to talk to you guys but he was always there. At the gym tonight, I knew that the only way he’d actually let me break up with him was if it was public. So that’s what I did.”
Annabeth pushes off the bed and throws herself onto Thalia. Percy and Grover are quick to follow until they’re a tangle of limbs, suits and dress (in Annabeth’s case) on the ground. Grover and Thalia are crying and holding each other tightly, and Annabeth has wrapped her arms around Thalia’s torso. It kind of reminds Percy of a koala and he pulls out his phone to take a photo of the three of them, immortalising this moment.
“So what did he think when you showed up wearing that?” Percy asks, nodding at the fitted suit Thalia wears, “Looks awesome by the way,” he adds.
Thalia scoffs.
“I thought his head was going to explode.” They all laugh and Percy rejoins them on the floor, ending up laying in Annabeth’s lap as they all hold onto each other, making up for time wasted.
“I can’t believe Luke is such a jackass,” Percy says with a shake of his head.
“Do you think he had a particular reason why he was like that towards you Thals? Is there something happening at his home?” Annabeth asks and Percy turns to her with an incredulous look.
“Wise Girl, come on, no matter how crappy a person's home life is, that doesn’t mean you can project that onto someone you care about. Like look at me, you don’t see me being an ass to you just because Gabe was the worst step-father in the world.”
“What happened with Gabe?” Thalia asks, sitting up abruptly when she hears his name but Percy waves her off.
“Nothing important. He just wasn’t a good person, but we don’t live with him anymore. Mom’s dating Paul and she’s happy and that’s all that matters to me.”
Thaila looks like she wants to say more but Annabeth cuts in.
“I’m not trying to make excuses for him, I just wanted to ask because that really doesn’t sound like the Luke I know,” she pauses when she sees Thalia’s face fall, “That doesn’t mean I don’t believe you...I really do. I just- I want to hear his side of it too you know? But I’ll stand by you no matter what.”
Thalia nods slowly and takes Annabeth’s outstretched hand.
“The Luke you know is very different to the Luke that I dated Annabeth. He’s changed a lot. He pretends he hasn’t, but he has and none of it is good. Even if you get his side of the story, I don’t think he’d tell the truth. I swear, on my brother and on my Mom, everything I’ve said is true. But if you want to ask him to double-check, I won’t stop you.”
Annabeth does end up asking Luke for his side of the story, and her decision still baffles Percy to this day, but Thalia reassures him that it’s for her own sanity.
“Luke and Annabeth were a lot closer than you remember I think. It really hurt Annabeth when he stopped talking to her. I think it hurt him too, I never knew why, but I think he had a thing for her at one point, but he chose me.”
That old familiar sting of jealousy holes up in Percy’s stomach as he waits for Annabeth to come back and meet them at her car.
“Do you think he still does? Like her, that is?” The words are like cotton in his mouth, suffocating and hard to speak around.
“Maybe. Wouldn’t be surprised if she does too. She never told me, but I always had a feeling.”
Oh.
Percy nods, unable to bring himself to say anything and waits in silence. Annabeth comes walking down the steps, wiping her eyes and Percy’s instincts kick in, and he’s running to her, pulling her close to his chest and holding her there.
“What did he do? Are you okay?” He asks when she finally pushes him away slightly. Her eyes are still watering but she smiles and pokes him in the cheek.
“I’m okay. Let’s go home.”
She lets him lead her into the car, he drops Thalia off first before pulling up at Annabeth’s.
“Come in?”
He nods and follows her soundlessly to her room. He unwraps his scarf and hangs his jacket on a hook, like he has many times before and sets himself on her bed, playing with her old stuffed toys as she slowly undoes her coat, clearly distracted.
“Thals was right. Luke is- I don’t know who that Luke was.” Annabeth admits.
A selfish part of Percy sighs in relief, and he holds out his arms as a peace offering to Annabeth. She smiles and sits down with him, not quite in his arms, but close enough that Percy isn’t complaining.
“I’m sorry.”
“Why are you sorry? It’s not your fault.”
“Because you’re sad and I don’t like seeing you sad, especially when I can’t do anything about it.”
“Seaweed Brain you can’t make everyone happy.” She says with a teasing smile.
“I don’t want to make everyone happy, just you.” The words come out before he fully processes thinking it and he swallows thickly when Annabeth stares at him, slightly dumbfounded.
Finally, she moves, and leans down, ever so softly pressing a kiss to his forehead.
“You do make me happy. You always have, don’t doubt that.” Percy can’t help but close his eyes and relish in the warmth she gives him. When he opens his eyes again she’s staring right back at him, like she can see into his soul. He secretly wishes her eyes weren’t so beautiful, because then he wouldn’t have such a problem with looking away, but they’re not, they’re the most beautiful eyes he’s ever seen and he never wants to stop.
“You make me happy too.” More than you’ll ever know.

Trans!Jason Grace Headcanons
Because @speedytherandom made a post about it and I had Inspiration™. This sort of a bullet fic idk this turned into something. I’m going with afab and ftm for this btw. He also doesn’t die in this situation but that's really subtle so it doesn't really affect the hcs
Was Originally Amara Grace (This means Love and the name originated in ancient Greece so I thought it fitted)
Because he was taken so young he didn’t really know what being trans for a long time.
Luckily because he spent all his time with the wolves, they didn’t really mind him having his hair short and wearing traditionally boy clothes because it made it easier for him to train
He never really knew why he liked dressing like that, it just made him feel more comfortable so he never really questioned it.
Once he got to New Rome he had to grow his hair out because it was too short to tie back,
She/Her pronouns made him uncomfortable, the same as being called Amara but he didn’t know why so he didn’t really do anything about it.
He didn’t get too much dysphoria when puberty started, because they were so active his chest never really got too big and he would wear sports bras because it was more comfortable than the normal one so that helped a bit.
He got his first period around the same time Reyna arrived and he completely freaked out and got some pretty awful dysphoria from that.
Around the time of the titan war he started questioning more intensely about why she/her pronouns made him uncomfortable, he decided to talk to Reyna about it
They looked into it together and figured out that he was trans
Jason didn’t really want to come out to camp but Reyna started using he/him pronouns when they were alone together, especially while they were trying to come up with a name
They settled on Jason because of his ties to Hera and because Jason said it felt right.
After the titan war the first thing Jason did as praetor was come out and cut his hair short.
He also started sort of a gsa to help other younger campers
This was also when Reyna came out as a Ace Lesbian (Oh look at that all of a sudden its wormed its way into my personal head canons universe-)
He started taking hormones that same Summer.
When Hera did the switching thing, she made sure that he remembered himself as Jason Grace, the same as the rest of the kids on the bus.
This is the one of the only redeeming things Hera did according to Annabeth
She also left the knowledge that he was trans so that he knew to talk to someone and get hormones
Unfortunately Jason didn’t know who to talk to at camp to get them and didn’t quite feel safe coming out there yet so for most of tlh he went without them.
Jason came out to Piper and Leo during one of their heart to hearts while settling down for the night.
Leo gave him a hug and told him that he was proud of him and thanked him for trusting him enough to tell him.
Piper also gave him a hug and also asked if he had any pads/tampons on him because A) She was on her period and needed more and B) because if he didn’t she would buy extra at the supermarket.
They all cried.
There was a little bit of confusion with Thalia but she got over it pretty quick as there was a trans girl in the hunt. (Also shes a They/Them Lesbian)
Thalia also said that he was a very handsome boy but he was an even cuter baby
Jason may have cried at that.
Once they got back to camp he went and spoke to Will Solace in the infirmary about taking hormones again.
Cue epic bonding moment
When Jason came out on the Argo 2 the response were positive, Percy clapped him on the shoulder and grinned at him
Annabeth thanked him for trusting them enough to tell them
Frank was also really supportive
Hazel needed a bit of help understanding but otherwise was really supportive.
During the c*pid scene, after the whole drama thing Jason came out to Nico and offered his support by saying that the 7 were really supportive and until he was ready to come out to others he would be there to help him and support him.
Got his bottom surgery before the events of burning maze
And plans to get top surgery at some point in the future
Jason also spoke to Mr D about a more permanent way of taking hormones because he sometimes forgot, so Mr D is considering helping
(He totally is not trying to bribe Mr D into it, no, definitely not.)
So yeah that's all I’ve got, hopefully this was good, I may also do ones where he interacts with the other characters I hc as LGBTQIA+ (aka a lot of them)

CABIN 10 — APHRODITE
Headcanons.
❝I want to apologize to all the women I have called pretty before I’ve called them intelligent or brave. I am sorry I made it sound as though something as simple as what you’re born with is the most you have to be proud of when your spirit has crushed mountains. From now on, I will say things like, ‘You are resilient,’ or, ‘You are extraordinary.’ Not because I don’t think you’re pretty. But because you are so much more than that.❞
— Rupi Kaur
Tumblr media
Headcanon masterlist.
They’re the camp hairdressers. You need a trim? You want it cut? You want it died? You want to shave it all off? Hit ‘em up.
The type of people that will straight-up chop their hair if it doesn't match their outfit. Somehow, it always works out? I'm looking at Micarah Tewers.
They also run a secret ear piercing — or anything else you need to pierce — parlor.
Okay, but consider: children of Aphrodite that grow up to be models.
Tumblr media
They can charm speak the photographers into letting them pick their own poses & not make them do seductive ones if they’re not comfortable with them.
Tumblr media
Some create clothing lines that represent sustainable fashion & have big names but small carbon footprints.
Some are spies.
Think about it! They know how to switch subtle bits of their personality to fit in with everyone they come across, when & when not to use their charm.
The hide outfits under other outfits & can slip one off in public to reveal the other & lose a tail.
And they'd probably be great at disguise makeup. Add a prosthetic chin, contour their nose differently, pull off their wig, & they're a completely different person.
Plus, their combat training at C.H.B. makes them the perfect agent.
Tumblr media
The floor next to their bunk is scattered with fabric cuttings, pins, needles, their sewing machine, serger, & measuring tape.
The number of times someone's gotten a needle or pin in their foot's a tad concerning.
Will absolutely not wear a top with an overstitched collar. Fast fashion is so tacky! Understitch is the way to go, the staple of a quality garment.
Vintage is better. Not because it's in style (that's a plus, though), but because the seams are big enough for you to let out, & it's made to last.
Experts at thrifting. Not just 'cause it's trendy or whatever, but because they're excellent at upcycling & far too many perfectly good clothes go into the land fill each year.
Make stunning dresses out of Good Will table cloths & curtains.
Or stitch two items together into one better whole.
They iron their clothes; they're not animals.
Really good at getting stains out?
Totally in on the corset bustier top trend, but they're using spiral steel boning in place of zip-ties. Because, again, they want things to last & they're not tacky.
Pass each other tips. Like to tuck your top into your tights to avoid the bulge under your skirt.
Some found big-name, organic makeup companies that don't test on animals. They use packaging that can be recycled or that's biodegradable.
Tumblr media
Borrow their clothes, sure, whatever, but double-dip in their makeup & die. The bacteria will give them acne. (Or is it the oils? Either way, you'll perish.)
Happy to drop their skincare routine, though.
You need to cover up that tattoo you got from C7? They got you.
Flawless makeup on a budget. Expensive doesn't always mean better.
They're taking you to the pool for a first date? Take a seat, C10 knows just the stuff. They use what Disney Princesses use.
Can guess the right shade of foundation/lipstick for you on the first couple tries.
A lot of them invest in magnetic lashes because glue's a b¡tch.
Reusable makeup wipes.
Rick says C10 kids just sit around the lake & check their reflection, but consider: working out gets them their dream bod. So, yes, they do, in fact, train.
Tumblr media
They just do it with intricate braids/hair gel & stylish sportwear.
And if a potential partner finds it unattractive that they’re “too muscly,” they’re no longer a potential partner.
Weapons disguised as jewelry or chapstick/lipstick.
Thalia had a mace canister that turned into a spear, & I gotta say, I.D.K. how she planned to get that through security. Imagine, alternatively, a tube that appears to be full of bright red lipstick when the T.S.A. agent opens it, but actually turns into a spear when opened by a half-blood.
(I have a headcanon that Riptide would just be a pen in the hands of a mortal. Bounced around for years as random objects until Poseidon nabbed it & took it to Chiron — recall that pen you lost?)
A pink, velvet choker that turns into a kopis with a dove embossed in the handle.
Many choose to train in heels. Might as well wear in training what they’ll be wearing when attacked in the street.
Tumblr media
They’ve got no time for internalized misogyny.
“C10′s weak ‘cause they like being pretty!” Good way to lose a kneecap, Annabeth. You’ve grown up in this camp, you knew Selina, & you should know better.
They confront Piper’s misogyny pretty early on after The Lost Hero, but Piper still takes some time to get over her bias toward pink.
Are we not gonna talk about Rick’s fashion choices for Piper throughout the series? “She looks so fashionable.” To whom, Rick? To whom?
You couldn’t’ve done a little internet surfing just to see what was in style? I never leave the house in anything but jeans, Converse, & a graphic t-shirt from Walmart, & even I know she’s dressed like a middle-schooler! Probably because that’s how I dressed in middle-school… That’s not the point.
The point is just because a character likes makeup or fashion or the color pink, doesn’t mean they can’t/won’t fight for their lives & the lives of their friends if/when the time comes. And it doesn’t mean that they’re stupid or judgmental.
I don’t know a lot about makeup. Hades, I don’t even wear makeup — you can’t rub your eyes or scratch your face; it would drive me crazy. I don’t know a lot about fashion either. I don’t understand it, but I can respect it.
❝‘Jesus,’ Sara says as Branley walks past us. ‘Too cold to show off cleavage, so instead she goes for jeans so tight I can see her thong.’ ‘She looks nice,’ I say, and she does. Branley always looks put together in a way that tells me she spends hours in front of a mirror before going outside. And while I don’t understand that, I can respect it.❞
— Alex Craft, Mindy McGinnis’s The Female of the Species
According to The Lost Hero, all children of Aphrodite intuitively speak French. Cool, cool, cool — but consider, all of them also intuitively speak the language of flowers.
Tumblr media
They see a red rose, and they just know it symbolizes love & passion. They see an orange lily, to contrast, & they know it symbolizes hatred.
There’s a copy of The Language of Flowers in their cabin, and it’s full of annotations, like, So-and-so gave these to so-and-so for Valentines Day! And, So-and-so gave these to so-and-so after their kiss on the Fourth of July; they obviously didn’t do their research!
They work together with C4 (Demeter) to provide flowers for funerals & the like.
C10 bookshelves also contain a lot of romance novels.
Beaten up copies of Pride & Prejudice & The Fault in Our Stars with faded highlighter over the beautiful lines & annotations in the margins.
Tumblr media
The outside walls are a dusty pink, & the wood’s stained a dark brown that goes surprisingly well with the pink.
Inside, the walls are covered in faded wallpaper.
The southwest wall has a bay window with extra storage in the seat. (There’s not a body in there; they swear.)
(That’s an Arsenic & Old Lace reference, for you youngsters.)
The curtains have one chiffon layer closer to the window & a thicker floral fabric for inside. The thick curtains are replaced based on the season & whether or not someone’s decided to make a romper out of them.
They have a real bell jar with a real rose in front of the window. Legend has it it’s from Aphrodite herself.
Said window is a stained glass image of a dove.
The chaise lounge was probably beautiful when it was brought it, but it’s got fingernail polish & makeup stains on it now. Honestly, someone should really have that thing cleaned.
Tumblr media
As you might have noticed, I placed a gif of swans at the top instead of a fancast for Aphrodite. This is because I think, as I believe most Percy Jackson fans do, multiple people should play her. I'd cast Arden Cho, Camila Mendes, Candice Patton, Diane Kruger, & Gal Gadot to start with.

Just my thoughts on Tower of Nero
SPOILER ALERT
• Ok. Let's start. First of all, I think this book is just right final for the whole PJO series. Honestly. I've been in this fandom for six years now. And going through this book made me want to read those books again, live and experience all those adventures once again.
• But even if I found it as a worthy ending, I still feel like something important ended in my life. Like graduating school, it left me this nostalgic feeling and I don't know if I'm happy or sad, if I want to laugh or cry.
• But let's discuss the book itself now. First of all: SOLANGELO. Really, they're not just sweet, they're that kind of relationship I'd want for me. I mean they're so proctevice, and supportive, and loving I can't.
• Also Nico's PTSD is canon now guys. And strangely it makes me feel a little pleased. Knowing what he has been through, I'm not surprised. I would've been more surprised if he didn't have PTSD. Also Will helping him with this just make my heart melt ❤❤❤
• I apologize, Rick, but Will has a tattoo????? Do you want my death. I literally can't stop thinking about.
• I'm pretty sure we'll have solangelo trip to Tartarus next year or so. And yes, they will be saving Bob the Titan.
• Will protecting Nico is just the best thing in the whole series.
• I believe, knowing that Rachel had spoken a prophecy about Will and Nico's upcoming guest, Tower of Nero is actually not the last book of PJO universe.
• Ok, enough with solangelo. Let's talk about Lester/Apollo. I can't decide if I'm pleased with the ending or not, but I would have been much happier if he remained being mortal. Him coming back to Olympus was a little unnatural for me.
• Also, I didn't like the fact that he just stand down for Zeus. I mean, he literally admitted him as his abuser, and still he decided to stay with his tyranny.
• But anyway, Apollo's arc was so beautiful throughout the whole series. Seeing him being narcissistic, self-centered god in the beginning and now knowing him as an amazing character, you had so much development, who finally understood the importances of this life and became a great hero just makes me feel proud. This is probably one of the best character development I've ever seen
• Meg getting her happy ending just made me feel so, so happy. I literally cried through the last chapter, because all this abuse and suffering she's been through made her so strong.
• Percy and Annabeth in college is a wonderful ending to their story. It just has to be this way. They're together. They're happy. But I still hope to them further, maybe in little cameos in Magnus Chase, maybe in an upcoming Nico's novel. I will miss them so much.
• Leo helping homeless kids makes me feel so proud of him. I hope he'll be happy and safe in his new Waystation home.
• Also his complicated relationship with Calypso had brought some development here that their couple never had. Maybe we'll see them again.
• Reyna and Thalia having a great time as Hunters of Artemis. That's it, that's the tweet.
• Frank and Hazel being praitors together is something worth living for. I love them with my whole heart.
• Expanding shrines in Camp Jupiter made me weeping. Because... well.
• Now the sad part. Jason Grace. I don't know what is wrong with me, but I just don't buy it. I can't take. My brain is still stuck in those moments of HOO when he was alive, happy and with us. I don't even feel pain about his death, because I didn't accept it. To me, he's still alive. I love Jason Grace. He was truly the best.
• Jason's death makes me feel so salty about the endings of all the seven. I know it's ok for them to be over it and having their happily ever after, but still. This is so unfair. Why did everyone had their happy endings, when Jason just died?! Didn't he deserve to be happy?! JUST WHY? It makes me so angry and sad.
• Also personal opinion now guys. I never liked Piper. I don't know why. And her ending in Tower of Nero made me like her even less. I know that she has right to move on, to be happy but... It makes me feel like their whole relationship with Jason was a joke. Maybe I don't understand something. Maybe I don't understand her. But Jason literally died for her. I can't blame her, and I'm not blaming her, but she makes me feel sorry for Jason.
• I loved how Rick brought new characters and everyone loved them. Lavinia, Lu, trogs, Meg's siblings. Even not being main characters, they still had good arc.
• Also Nero's character is so developed. I think he was the best villain of PJO so far.

Things We Lost in the Fire, ch 23
aka Caleo uni au
Fic summary: Calypso starts studying at a new university, but to her annoyance her new flatmate is a loud mouthed mechanic who also likes to sneak his dog in whenever. But as she learns to know him better, she realizes they might have more in common than what she first thought. Eventually, even the darkest secrets come out…
Chapter summary: Halloween chapter, part 1.
A/N: This is the first part of possibly a long-ish Halloween 'arc' that is to come. I have to warn you that I only have 1 more chapter as a draft version and the said chapter is a mess and has caused me a lot of insecurities so... I'm not entirely sure how long it will take me to work through the issues that chapter has. I still hope I will have something to post next Friday! Please be patient with me, I promise I have every intention to continue and finish this story.
Thanks for all the lovely comments the previous chapter got! You guys are the best :) And keep them coming because that is literally the best reward I can get :)
Words: 3200+
Genre: romance & hurt/comfort
Warnings: none
previous chapter / AO3
...
“Hey Sunshine, you ready?” Leo asked her flatmate one November Friday as he was pulling his winter coat on in the hallway.
“In a minute!” Calypso yelled from her room. “Just… One final touch up!”
Leo checked his watch. “Okay, as long as it’s really a minute! You know Argo II isn’t waiting!”
“You do know that Argo II doesn’t have feelings, right? It’s a car,” his non-understanding flatmate argued.
“You better hope he didn’t hear that!” Leo protested. “He may just not turn on at all if you claim such things.”
“Oh my gods, Leo. Sometimes I wonder if you care about your machines more than people.”
Leo didn’t respond to that. To himself he mumbled. “At least I know how to fix them. And can’t hurt them.”
The flatmates were getting ready to leave for Jason and Piper’s late Halloween party. Most of the members of their friend group had been busy doing their own things on the real Halloween weekend but they had decided that they’d still want to have a small gathering at Jason and Piper’s house on a later date. Percy and Annabeth would be there, as well as Jason’s sister Thalia, her ‘friend’ Reyna, and Jason’s friend and a distant relative Nico. To Calypso Leo had told, that he had only met Nico a couple of times, because apparently Nico was a bit of a lonely soul and he wandered around the country doing who knows what. That fall, though, he had apparently met someone who had managed to keep him rooted to his home, so Leo suspected that there was a possibility that Nico really would show up this time.
Leo snapped out of his thoughts when Calypso’s door was pulled open, revealing the girl in her costume. His mouth opened involuntarily as he took her in. She was wearing a white chiton like dress with golden decorations around the neckline and accessories that matched the theme. Those included a golden headband and a belt, a bracelet made of real flowers, strappy leather sandals and since her own hair was short now, she had gotten a caramel colored wig that she had braided to one side, reminding Leo a lot of the hairstyle Calypso had had when she had moved in. She smiled at Leo shyly. “Well, what do you think?” She asked, lifting the hem of her dress slightly to show it off better.
“You’re… you’re…” Leo felt the words escape him again. With frustration he wondered how one person could do that to him. Leo Valdez never ran out of words.
“Calypso?” she tried to guess what he had wanted to say.
‘What?” He asked with confusion, unable to follow Calypso’s track of thoughts. In his mind he had answered her question ‘prettier than greek goddesses’ but he realized too late that she had meant that she was dressed up like the Calypso from the Greek mythology. “Oh, now I got it. Must have sniffed too much machine oil or something…Anyway, I see you have some self irony, dressing as your name sake.”
“That was kind of the point, Valdez. A girl named Calypso who studies Greek mythology? People comment on my name so often that I decided it’s time to make it clear that yes, I’m aware of that coincidence.”
“Ooh, the great revenge,” Leo chuckled. Suddenly he noticed that Calypso had turned more serious, her hands fiddling with her purse.
“Really, though, what do you think of this? I made this dress and these bracelets myself. And my mum gave me this before we moved here,” she pointed at her headband. “Apparently it’s something that’s been running in our family; my grandma wore it in her wedding picture and so on…”
“Oh… Well… that’s cool,” Leo said, mentally cursing the ‘error’ message on his brain. “You did a good job. I mean… I once saw a painting of Calypso in the Indianapolis Museum of Art and I think you look nothing like her… in a good way!”
“Aww, thank you.” Calypso seemed happily surprised about Leo’s comment, and he swore the expression made her even cuter. He also wondered if he should have a doctor check his heart because it seemed to do funny things in her presence...
“You’re welcome?” he replied stupidly.
“So, where is your costume?” Calypso asked curiously, apparently only now paying attention to the fact that he indeed wasn’t wearing one yet. “I thought you said we’re in a hurry.”
“I can’t drive in mine, it’s difficult to see from under it,” Leo explained, returning to his room to get a huge sports bag where he had packed his creation a bit earlier. He had spent several days making it and he was kind of proud of the final result. Although, seeing Calypso now, for a moment he still wondered if he had made a mistake with his costume choice, but it was too late to change his mind now. “I’ll put it on when we get there.” He gestured towards the bag.
“Okay,” Calypso nodded while changing her shoes into more fall suitable ones. “I’m looking forward to seeing what you have come up with.”
“Good, because it will blow your mind,” Leo claimed.
“I will refrain from forming any opinions before I see it,” Calypso noted, putting her keys into her pocket. “Now, come on, mister Mysterious, I hear Argo II isn’t very patient.”
Leo secretly loved it when Calypso attempted to joke back, and he grinned at her as he held the door open so she could leave first.
“Let’s go then, Sunshine.”
The drive to Jason and Piper took about 20 minutes so Leo and Calypso had a lot of time to talk about whatever came to their minds. At first Calypso gave Leo pretty short answers and he got worried that something was wrong between them again, but eventually Leo got her curious about the guests at the party that she hadn’t met yet.
“The Hunters are traveling a lot because of their competitions so I haven’t met Thalia that often. She’s a little bit scary, though. She has this edgy look going on and I’ve heard she is super strong; she’d ninja throw me on the floor before I’d have time to say Festus if given a chance. I’m trying very hard not to give her any reasons to do that.”
“Ouch. She sounds like something else,” Calypso said.
“She is,” Leo confirmed, almost getting chills only thinking about her. “She can be nice if you get to her good side, though.”
“Is it just me or does someone have a crush?” Calypso asked teasingly.
“What? No!” Leo exclaimed, glancing at Calypso’s reaction briefly. “Alright, maybe I used to have but that was when I didn’t know what was the best for me. But that was a long time ago. Besides, she’s totally dating someone even though they won’t admit it.” ‘And I wish I was dating someone else as well’, he thought, but left that unsaid.
“Oh? Will I get to meet that person today?” Calypso asked with curiosity.
“I think you will. From what I know Reyna’s always with Thalia. They claim they are only best friends but Jason has told me that they are keeping a low profile because it’s forbidden inside their team to date their teammates.”
“That sounds like a basis for a tragic love story,” Calypso said while staring out of the window with a dreamy expression. “I don’t even know these people but as a hopeless romantic I hope they will find some solution.”
Leo thought Calypso was very cute when she talked like that “Yeah. I hope.”
“So, do you know this Reyna personally?” she asked then, distracting Leo from his thoughts.
“You could say that,” Leo answered, trying to focus on the road instead of the girl next to him. “The team visits Waystation regularly because Jo and Emmie used to coach them back in the day and as a fellow Spanish speaker Reyna has always paid special attention to me. I swear, sometimes she treats me like I was his little brother…”
“Aww, that’s kind of sweet in my opinion. What is this team you were talking about, though? Did you say Hunters?”
“Oh, yep. The Artemis’ Hunters, named after the Greek goddess Artemis, naturally. It’s an archery group… Hey, is everything alright?”
Leo couldn’t help but notice that Calypso had shifted uncomfortably on her seat and adjusted her seatbelt a bit looser around her shoulder when he had said the name.
“Yeah. Don’t worry. I just… used to know someone who was in the Hunters as well, so I was surprised they have some connections here, that’s all.” Calypso turned her head to stare out of the window, sending Leo signals that he should drop the topic. He decided to push it a little bit further, though.
“You did? But you said ‘was’. Is she not in it anymore?”
“No,” Calypso shook her head, but didn’t elaborate.
“OK.” Leo sighed. A few moments earlier Calypso had been smiling and teasing him about some old crush and now she was acting cold again. Clearly the Hunters were a painful topic for her, but Leo couldn’t figure out why. Had something happened to the person Calypso had known? And why did she have to be so secretive? Leo wanted so badly to be able to help her and understand her, but when she was not opening up, it was very hard to do anything about it.
“Any guesses about what my costume may be?” He decided to change the topic. That seemed to cheer his flatmate up a bit.
Calypso closed her eyes while thinking, a tiny smile forming on her face. “Hmmm, I imagine it’s probably something flashy. But knowing you it could also be your work coveralls and working boots. I know how much you love those, after all.”
“It’s flashy, alright,” Leo said, his grin returning back to his face. “I’ll give you another hint: it’s a character from one of my favorite TV shows or movies.”
“You have a lot of those,” Calypso reminded him. “Ooh, now I know!! You’re Dalek! That’s why you would have a hard time seeing from under the costume.”
“No,” Leo shook his head, “But now that you say that, that would’ve been cool! Why didn’t you give me that idea earlier?”
“Because you already had an awesome idea? Or that’s at least the impression I got,” Calypso reminded him.
“Well, yeah. I still like my current idea. Maybe next time I’ll make a Dalek.” Leo had a goofy smile on his face as he imagined building a Dalek costume from the scratch.
“Sounds like a plan. So, will you reveal to me what you will be this time?” Calypso asked.
“Nah, you’ll see soon. Good things are worth waiting for, right?”
“Yeah, I guess so.” Calypso shrugged. “Although our opinions on what’s good tend to differ a bit based on our previous TV watching experiences.”
“Yeah, but that’s why it’s good we are flatmates. It’s good to broaden your horizons sometimes and learn about different things that other people like,” Leo pointed out.
“Maybe you’re right,” Calypso admitted. “But are you saying you have learned something from me? What could that be?”
“That olives taste bad? That sometimes Venusaur can be more useful than Charizard?”
“Not exactly what I was looking for, but I’ll take that.” Leo turned his head just enough to see a small smirk on Calypso’s face.
“I was just messing with you because I think you secretly like it,” Leo said with a grin. “But really, you have taught me a lot. That we shouldn’t let fears control the direction of our life. That Greek mythology is actually pretty fascinating even if tía Callida made it sound boring as hell, and we should all learn to understand different cultures better. And, you know? There’s no way we can know every single thing about someone else so we just need to learn to trust and give them a benefit of the doubt sometimes. And finally, I shouldn’t underestimate your Mario Kart skills.”
Calypso snorted at the last part. “Sometimes you do surprise me, Repair Boy. That was a good answer.”
“I can feel my reputation as the Bad Boy Supreme getting shattered to pieces. What about me, though? Have I taught you something?” Leo asked. If he was honest to himself, he didn’t want to know because what could he possibly teach to a smart girl like her?
“You taught me that chilis are evil and you should never eat them the way I did,” Calypso replied, and Leo was fully prepared for more teasing. But it never came.
“You have also shown me sometimes persistency can be a very good thing – otherwise we probably wouldn’t be friends now. We also shouldn’t judge a book by the cover – I’m just saying that when I first saw you I was kind of prejudiced… but since learning to know you better I realized I was wrong. And remember that time when Jo and Georgina were visiting us and you came home a bit late? Jo told me some stories about you before you arrived and that made me understand how far hard work can sometimes take us. You’ve come a long way… and while there are always things we can work on and improve, I think it’s important to be proud of the things we have already achieved, even when looking ahead.”
“Wow… those are some really nice things you just said there…” Leo stumbled to find the right words. Especially the last point had hit him hard because he had had a very hard time with his self esteem recently. He still didn’t know if he would be allowed to retake his lab test – and more importantly, if he was even capable of trying. That was just the tip of the iceberg; it definitely wouldn’t be the only time he would have to face his fear during his studies and later on in the work life, and he would eventually have to make the difficult decision whether it was worth going through. He did want to get over his fear, but with her own issues on her mind, he hadn’t wanted to ask her to help until the situation was better.
“Hey,” Calypso squeezed his knee gently and Leo was afraid he’d accidentally brake so fast they’d crash somewhere. Thankfully he managed to contain himself. “I know I nag and tease you sometimes, but I hope you know despite that I actually care about you and respect you for the things you do. I’m… glad you’re my flatmate.”
Leo was very thankful that it was dark in the car because he was positive that he was redder than a chili pepper. After swallowing hard, he managed to croak: “Yeah. Thanks. You’re pretty neat too.” “Pretty neat?” Calypso asked, cocking her eyebrow.
“Argh, sorry, you can’t expect a guy to be able to think straight after you tell them something like that!” Leo exclaimed. “But, uh, I mean, I think the same way. That it’s nice that you’re my flatmate.”
“Glad we have that established.” Calypso smiled at him. Again Leo wondered what it was about that smile that made his heart go crazy. He had had a couple of short term girlfriends before Calypso had moved in and even though he had liked them, there was something different about how Calypso made him feel. But now that Leo thought about it, he realized that for example Khione, his first girlfriend (who had turned out to be quite an ice queen in the end) had had a smile that had never quite reached her eyes and made him wonder what was truly going on in that head of hers. His second girlfriend, Echo, had been a sweet girl but something about her smile had said that she’d rather be free of relationship bonds. Leo thought that he had probably sensed that from pretty early on because it had been a smaller shock for him than his first break up. But Calypso’s smile? It made Leo want to see it over and over again, and instead of wanting something from him, it seemed to give him more energy. It made him feel restless, but in a positive way.
When Leo snapped out of his thoughts, he realized that Calypso was staring at him weirdly, as if he had been in his daze for a while.
“What?” he asked a bit nervously.
“You just completely missed my question,” Calypso stated, frowning a little.
Leo tried to shake his head to clear his mind a bit. “Sorry, I was just… remembering something. But what did you ask?”
“I asked if there’s any news from your professors about your studies. It’s been a while since you’ve said anything about that.”
Leo gulped. “Yeah. Right. Um, at the moment I’m continuing to attend the classes except the lab one. I guess I should ask the lab professor if he would still let me redo the test at some point. But the other problem is, I’m not sure if I can. You know, if I have it in me to get over my stupid fear.”
“It is not a stupid fear, Leo. You have your reasons. But I do believe that you can get over it. And I want to help you. We should start working on it soon, how about tomorrow or some time next week?”
“Tomorrow is fine to me.” Leo started tapping his fingers against the wheel, a sign of him feeling anxious about the topic. “I… really appreciate your help. Is there something I can do in return?”
“You already did!” Calypso said to his surprise.
“Huh? What do you mean?”
“Remember that flower shop you mentioned to me?” Calypso asked. “I guess I’ve been so busy this week that I forgot to mention this but it looks like I’m getting the job! The interview went well and the boss invited me to see how they make their flower arrangements and they even let me do this.” Calypso showed him her flower bracelet that had some small roses and several other flowers the names of which he didn’t know. “She will make her final decision on Monday but I might start working there already next week.”
“That’s awesome news! Congrats!” Leo said, genuinely happy for her.
“Thank you! And sorry I didn’t tell you earlier, it seems we have both been rather busy this week, I feel I’ve barely seen you…”
“Don’t worry about it. I’m glad I was useful for something! But look, that’s Jason and Piper’s place.” He nodded towards the building in front of them.
Leo looked from the corner of his eyes how Calypso would react to seeing the house. From what he knew Calypso hadn’t been there earlier; she and Piper had hung out more at their flat due to the closeness of the university. He wasn’t disappointed when he saw Calypso’s mouth open a bit.
“I know, pretty impressive.” Leo said.
“I have seen big houses before but this looks way nicer than the ones I know…” Calypso noted. Leo wanted to ask more about that but he knew that the friends were waiting so he decided to leave it for later. Once he had parked the car, some strange instinct told him to rest his hand on hers for a moment before he gestured to Calypso to step outside.
“After you.”

Ares kids giving percy shit and then they just see... luke... standing in the background... staring at them... and they suddenly decide to leave percy alone, because they 'just FEEL LIKE IT, oKAY???' jhgfgdhfdhggfjghg
Despite what everyone else thinks, Luke is always angry. He just also happens to be really good at hiding it. He probably had his dad to thank for that, being able to redirect and reassure others with a flash of a smile and a wave of his hand to disarm anyone who’d think otherwise. He hardly ever lets his temper get the best of him anymore. He’s too old for that. Too tired to let the little things get under his skin and leave bruises that the world could see. He can’t afford to wear his anger out like tattooed sleeves, the same way Silena Beauregard wore compassion on hers.
And it would be too easy. Too easy to just let his anger for the world and for the gods fuel and feed the hurt bleeding into his rationality and blaming all his problems on everything other than himself. It would be way too fucking easy to go about his days in a blinding rage that left nothing but empty holes in the places that should have held love and forgiveness and all the good he tries so desperately to instill in the younger campers. It wouldn’t solve anything. It wouldn’t help the hurt and it wouldn’t end the suffering. Luke knew this. Luke knew the world didn’t need one more angry, unwanted kid adding that kind of gasoline into the fire. Kronos was wrong, even if his tempted whispers late at night tried so hard to convince him otherwise.
So he hides his anger. Buries it under daily counselor chores and making sure the Stoll brothers don’t get too rowdy during their free time and just keeps busy enough to ignore the pounding tremor in the back of his chest. It works for the most part. It’s easier to smile nowadays, he barely even has to force it anymore, and when he laughs along to campfire stories and songs, it’s something lighthearted and genuine.
But his anger is always right there, like it’s something second hand and lingering. There without him having to reach for it.
And when he notices Percy get dragged behind the armory by the scruff of his neck by some older kids, he lets that all too familiar anger consume him in seconds. He pushes away from the handful of campers he was monitoring by the amphitheater, ‘Activity’s over. You have free break until lunch’, he calls over his shoulder, and doesn’t wait for a response as he marches his way in the direction of the armory with a speed Hermes would probably be proud of if he ever cared enough to check-in.
Luke doesn’t have special skills or powers like other Demigods. He can’t build things like Beckendorf and he can’t charm speak like Silena and he certainly can’t summon lightning from the heavens like Thalia could. But he was respected and feared in equal measure all the same, and no one could deny that he worked hard to earn the title of the best swordsman in camp.
His was still a presence that demanded attention and authority. Even if he lets the seven-year-old from the Haphestus cabin ride on his shoulders after breakfast most mornings, or moves over on his already tiny bunk in the dead of night so that little unclaimed Lily Anderson can sleep with him after a bad nightmare.
He was a self-designated older brother to pretty much anyone who needed one, and Luke took a quiet sort of pride to that so many people liked and needed him.
But he was still a threat when he wanted to be.So when he saw Percy on the ground, with a nose bleed that stained the front of his shirt an awful rusty color, all Luke had to do was growl a low, ‘walk away. Now’, and the three boys took off at a sprint. He only vaguely recognized two of them from the Ares cabin and one from Aphrodite, but he didn’t care enough to do more with the information at the moment because Percy was staring up at him with green eyes electric and burning.
And Luke recognizes those kinds of eyes. They’re the same as his. There's a light like dying stars in them. Angry and terrified and burning with something terrible and so full of single-minded devotion that it has to hurt. And it leaves something aching and red hot in Luke’s stomach when he takes a step forward only for Percy to flinch away out of reflex.
“I’m fine,” Percy said like a knee jerk reaction before Luke could even ask, barking it in a mean and biting way that Luke didn’t take any offense to because he remembers what if felt like to be twelve and have your pride hurt. So Luke doesn’t question it, because Percy is scrappier and stronger than anyone probably ever gave him credit for, and offers a silent hand and the gentlest smile he can muster. Luke does his best to ignore the thumping jolt of anger that vibrates through him when Percy takes it almost immediately and so desperately, like it’s his only lifeline in the world, and wonders what kind of people were in Percy’s life before camp that made him so hungry for a positive human connection.
Percy apologizes a second later with a horrified expression, jumping out of reach when he notices he got blood on Luke’s hand.
“Don’t worry about it. Let's just get you to the Apollo cabin. Lee keeps a first aid kit and a jar of ambrosia superglued to him at all times after Cecil Markowitz’s third greek fire burn.” The comment was supposed to lighten the mood somewhat, but Percy’s face darkens as he takes a step back from Luke.
“Um, no thanks,” Percy says in almost a pained whisper, hugging his middle and trying to wipe the continuous flow of blood from running down his chin by holding his head back. “It smells too much like the infirmary in there. And I hate the way ambrosia burns down my throat. I’m good, Luke, really.”
And that should have tipped Luke off to some bigger problem, but he can’t concentrate on it because he’s already closing the distance between them faster than Percy could object, and softly pushing the back of Percy’s head down towards the ground. “Pinch here, just above your nostrils, and lean forward unless you want the blood to go down your throat.” He instructs, guiding Percy’s bloodied hand to his nose.
Luke can’t rightly blame Percy for his hesitance. The kid’s first moments of conscious grief since his new life as a half-blood began was spent in the camp infirmary, nursing the pain of losing his mom while also nursing actual physical wounds with acidic nectar and ambrosia that even Luke can attest to growing disgust for after the first few battle wounds of his own. Anyone would have some kind of underlying trauma from that, and Percy didn’t have to outwardly admit how uncomfortable he was at the idea for Luke to understand.
Being a 12-year-old without a mom was hard enough. The problems of a half-blood added on top of that was almost a cruel joke that Luke bitterly couldn’t believe was a reality for most the kids at camp.
“Annabeth used to get into a lot of fights too, I’ve gotten pretty used to fixing noses the old fashioned way. Come on, I have a spare medkit in the combat arena,” Luke says, pressing a hand to Percy’s back, not giving him a chance to escape because dammit, someone had to care for this kid. And Percy doesn’t smile, but something in those sharp green eyes turn leaf like and muted as he lets himself get led from out from behind the armory.
No one really bats an eye towards Percy as they walked, and Luke could only assume it’s because he looks like he’s about to kill anyone that tried with a stone-cold glare that could rival Medusa’s.
No one was is in the arena when they get there, and Luke instructs Percy to keep the cold washcloth Luke had snagged for him on his nose for about ten minutes, keeping upright to help stop the bleeding. They don’t say anything after that, they just sit on the arena steps and watch the campers from the Demeter cabin try to flip the canoes of some Aphrodite kids with little success, while they wait.
Luke doesn’t ask any questions on what happened or why, he feels like the answer wouldn’t matter anyway, but Percy eventually softens in the silence between them. Luke pretends he doesn’t notice Percy’s eyes get red and wet as he rubs at them angrily with the palm of his hand.
After about fifteen minutes, and a fresh camp shirt that Luke had given him to replace Percy’s stained one, Percy looked no worse for wear, at least.
“Thanks,” he says softly, like he was thanking Luke for a million things at once, and Luke was all too aware of the crack in his voice and the angry hunch of his shoulders that made him look whole years to young to be angry at the world.
“Don’t thank me just yet, I need your help with something,” Luke decides as he stands up and walks back into arena, not looking back to see if Percy is following him because he knows he is.
“Alright,” he says once they make it to the middle of the dusty pit, holding his hands out in front of his chest and adjusting his stance as Percy looks at him with a doe-eyed curiosity and confusion. “Come at me with all you got.”
Percy frowns, and sniffs once before rubbing his nose with the back of his hand. “What? Dude I already got my butt handed to me, I don’t need another nose bleed on top of a few broken bones.”
Luke can’t help but smile at that. “Come on, humor me. I have a few unchecked microaggressions I need to work out and you owe me. I promise I won’t aim for your nose.”
Percy frown deepens, but he sighs like the whole world is weighted on in and gets into a fighting stance of his own, keeping his fists close to his chest.
Now it was Luke’s turn to frown. “Aww dude, you’re breaking my heart here.”
He relaxes his stance and walks over to where Percy stood, dodging the lame attempt of a punch and catching Percy’s fist in the palm of his hand, readjusting Percy’s fingers. “Thumb goes here unless you want to break it. And you wanna keep your fists closer to bottom of your chin.”
Luke uses his own foot to shift Percy’s into a more stable stance. “Feet this far apart and bend your knees, or you’re gonna get knocked down no matter what happens. Try to punch me again.”
Frowning more out of concentration then confusion, Percy took another swing that Luke caught easily and without letting go, pulled it back towards Percy’s shoulder and used his other hand to straighten Percy’s back. “Use these muscles here and punch straight out. You keep swinging too wide and putting all your force behind it, leaving you open.”
He guided Percy’s hand with his own, twisting it slowly in the form of a punch. “You’re gonna feel the bones in your arm want to move this way. Let them and you’ll get more force out of it.”
Percy hummed something like acknowledgment, so Luke let go and retook his stance in front of Percy, mimicking his same posture from before. “Try it again.”
Luke still caught Percy’s fist in his own, but a smile broke his face in two when he, not unkindly, pushed Percy back aways. “A couple more hits like that, and my hand may actually start to hurt, Jackson.”
And the grin that crept upon the twelve-year-olds face was something bright and delighted and outshining the stars as easy as breathing, and Luke soaked in every inch as they continued for the better half of the morning sparing till the lunch horn sounded.
Percy was so much like a younger Luke that is actually scared him, but moments like this, where he knew practical methods of defense would help Percy better than any reassurance that bullies would eventually leave him alone ever could. And Luke knew that Percy wouldn’t be ok with anyone fighting his battles for him, even if it would have been so easy for Luke to channel some of that unchecked rage into beating the ever-living snot out of anyone who looked sideways at Percy again. Just like he knew that Percy wouldn’t ask for help if it wasn’t already freely giving, or that trust was a hard thing to earn when your whole life was built around people burning that bridge before you could ever extend it.
But Luke was prepared for the challenge, and with Percy chatting happily away from underneath where Luke rested his arm across his shoulders as they made their way to the dining Pavillion, Luke could feel the edges of his anger slowly quiet into something barely there. And it’s a feeling that carries him throughout the rest of the day. A feeling that he wants to bottle up and keep on a shelf whenever he wants to forget what hating the world feels like.
Because if it feels like it’s worth it just to keep kids like Percy smiling for the rest of forever, well then, Luke could handle forgiving some of his anger, and letting his heart rest on his sleeves just a little bit more.

@reignofolympus asked: “I’m so proud of you, you know that?” for thalia?
Soft Sentence Starters // Accepting
Tumblr media
When Thalia had run away from home, she knew that she was going to be on her own.  She wouldn't be able to rely on her mother (not that she REALLY had anyway), and her father likely wouldn't be able to interfere on her behalf, lest he be accused of favoritism.  Thalia had known all of this...., and running away had still been the preferable option to staying with her mother after.....but she couldn't afford to think about that now.
She'd been on her own for a while before she'd met Luke, and then two demigods had been better than one.  Of course, they'd also attracted more monsters when they were together, but by that point, Thalia had become pretty used to dealing with whatever came her way.  She was a child of Zeus, after all, and monsters sought her out the way connoisseurs sought out prized beef.
After Annabeth had joined them, they had been a very strange little family, but they made it work.  She hadn't given a second thought to giving her life to defend her friends, to keep the monsters at bay long enough for them to reach the safety of Camp Half-Blood.
It was at that point that her father had stepped in, turning her into a pine tree on top of the hill, to commemorate her sacrifice.  And there she had remained until not too long ago, when the Golden Fleece had been placed in her branches, to help heal her tree and strengthen the magical barrier that the pine had represented.  It had done all that and more, and Thalia found herself in the land of the living once again, trying to pick up the pieces of a life she hadn't expected to have.
She'd done everything she could to be the child she thought would make her father proud.  Thalia had taken up the quest with Percy Jackson, she'd tried to lead at Camp Half-Blood, and despite the fact that her presence meant that SHE could be the child of the prophecy, she was determined to make sure Kronos would not rise again.
For a time, she thought that that had meant joining the Hunters of Artemis, to ensure that she wouldn't reach her sixteenth birthday, but the longer she spent with Percy Jackson, the more convinced she became that he would be the child that was mentioned.  Which meant that she had to help make sure that he made it to his sixteenth birthday.
Thalia had been doubting this decision a little bit recently, fretting and wondering if she SHOULD have joined the Hunters after all.  She had never expected Zeus to just drop by, despite the fact that she'd been praying fervently for the past....well, she honestly didn't know how long.  And to hear that her father was PROUD of her.....; it was almost too much.
She offered the king of the gods a small smile, and it was all she could do not to run over to them, to throw her arms around them, and to ask for comfort like the child she still technically was.
"Thank you, Father," she murmured, her blue eyes lifting to meet theirs.  "You don't think I made the wrong decision?"  Okay, so maybe she needed a little bit of validation for her choice, anyway.  And who better to ask than her father?

Nico has spent so much of his life fixating on his past. Now that Will's been in his life for so long, it's finally time for Nico to start focussing on his future.
He knows exactly how to start.
Word Count: 4383
Read the whole series on AO3
Nico smiled fondly as Percy clumsily dipped Annabeth in the middle of the floor. She attempted to scold him but couldn’t contain her laughter enough to do so properly. Nico had never seen her look as radiant as she did in her white dress trimmed with silver, her embroidered wedding train flowing out around the dancing couple from where it was attached into her curled up-do.
She wasn’t the only one looking radiant- Percy was dressed in a deep blue suit with a turquoise tie and grey flowers attached to his lapel. His hair was looking surprisingly tame, too, and Nico knew Sally Jackson was to thank for that. He looked ridiculously handsome and the bright smile added to his features just completed the look. Nico grinned at the sight. Two of his best friends had just gotten married and not a single monster had attacked the wedding. It was perfect.
“You’re looking uncharacteristically happy,” a familiar, snarky voice spoke besides Nico. He turned his head to the side and rolled his eyes at Reyna. She was dressed in deep plum robes and carried a champagne flute in her hand with an air of grace.
“They’ve both been through so much. I’m allowed to be happy that they’re happy- they deserve this,” Nico pointed out.
“Wise words, di Angelo. Who turned you into Socrates?” Reyna responded with a smirk. Nico elbowed her gently.
“Don’t bully me, I’m trying to be a better person,” he complained. Reyna let out a laugh at that.
“You were fine as the grumpy little emo we met you as,” she pointed out, ruffling his hair.
“Oi,” Nico batted her hand away, “don’t touch the hair- Will spent half an hour getting it into a ponytail.”
“Oh, he likes a man in a bun, does he?” Reyna raised an eyebrow. Nico flushed bright red and tried hard to keep in his laughter.
“Stop it, he’s only over there, he’ll hear you!” he complained, snorting a little through his nose.
Reyna let out a laugh too and finally settled into a stool next to Nico. Her eyes scanned the hall, taking in the appearance of all their remaining friends. The years hadn’t gone by without losses- one of the most significant being one of Nico and Reyna’s best friends, Jason Grace. His sister was here today with a few other Hunters that Percy and Annabeth knew well from their years of cooperation with them.
Nico tried not to think about their losses too much. He knew if he dwelled on the dead more than the living, he’d find himself right back in the mental state he was in when he lost Bianca. That was a place he never wanted to go back to.
“Piper’s doing well,” Reyna pointed out. It was true, Nico noted, as he glanced across the room and saw that other couples had started to spill onto the dance floor now Percy and Annabeth’s first dance was over. Piper had invited the daughter of Demeter she was currently seeing onto the dance floor and the two girls were twirling around and smiling. It was good to see the dark bags that had resided under her eyes over the past few years were finally dissipating.
“You are, too,” Nico reminded Reyna. Piper and Reyna both had a very long history with Jason and Reyna had seemed to everyone as if she’d recovered quite quickly from his loss. Nico knew her better, though. He knew she was still hurting a lot even if she didn’t want her legion to see it.
Reyna shrugged.
“All wars have losses. They’re never losses we’re prepared to make but we have no choice but to move forwards from the consequences,” she commented.
“Who’s Socrates, now?” Nico teased. Reyna rolled her eyes and smiled, taking a drink of champagne.
“Enough about that,” she batted the topic aside, “weren’t you going to put your big plan into action tonight?”
Nico sighed.
“I was but then I found out the wedding date and didn’t want to encroach. I’m not sure I’ll have the confidence, anyway,” he shrugged. Reyna raised a pointed eyebrow at him.
“These are all just excuses because you’re nervous. Percy and Annabeth won’t think it’s any such thing. You said yourself- tonight would be perfect, right? I say you still go for it,” she encouraged.
“I mean, I do have it on me but what if he-“ Nico started to voice his concerns when a flash of blond appeared in his field of vision. It appeared Nico’s boyfriend had finished his conversation with Hazel and Frank.
“Care to dance, dashing fellow,” Will Solace announced, bowing in front of Nico’s chair and offering his hand out. Nico took a moment to take his appearance in. Will had gone for an unusual choice of wedding attire, selecting a brown waistcoat with matching fitted pants over a baby blue shirt with a royal blue bowtie tightened snugly around his neck to match Nico’s tie that he’d been forced to wear for the event. His impish smile added to the outfit, making him look cuter than ever.
Nico snorted out a laugh and grabbed Will’s hand, hopping down from his stool.
“I suppose I could be tempted, on one condition,” Nico shrugged his shoulders.
“And what condition may that be?” Will asked, flashing Nico a grin.
Nico smirked back and gripped Will’s hand a bit tighter. In one swift movement, Nico slipped off his stool and put his arm around Will’s back, pressing his palm into the small of Will’s back and pulling him close against his chest.
“I get to lead,” Nico smirked, looking directly up into Will’s blue eyes.
“Sure,” Will responded breathlessly, his cheeks flushed red. Nico internally fist-pumped. His one mission in life was to make Will blush as much as possible and he was surprisingly very good at it as of late.
“Honestly,” Nico heard Reyna mutter behind him as he dragged Will onto the dance floor. As the two began dancing, Nico wondered if maybe Reyna had been right and he should go ahead with his previous plans for tonight. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to, at all, it was just that he was… scared.
Nico pushed all thoughts of what he may or may not do that evening out of his head as Will leant down and whispered into Nico’s ear,
“Bets that Percy stands on Annabeth’s feet at least three times?”
Nico chuckled lowly underneath his breath as he spun Will around.
“Pretty sure I already saw him step on her toes four times. I reckon it will be eight times before she drags him off the dance floor,” he decided.
Will threw his head back a bit and laughed, capturing Nico’s full attention. Nico smiled at his boyfriend. He didn’t need to think about anything else with Will at his side.
Nico had sucked up all the courage he could muster and was going to do it. Reyna had given him the push he needed and he’d already texted Will to meet him at the top of Halfblood hill, just within the borders.
Whilst the new phones Leo had designed for them all were seemingly monster-proof, Nico still didn’t want to run any risks at all. Not tonight.
Now, here he was, pacing beside Thalia’s tree, half expecting the Lieutenant herself to appear and tell him to stop disturbing the soil above its roots.
No one did descend from the clouds, though, and Nico was left alone, waiting for Will. His boyfriend wasn’t late by any means- Nico didn’t think Will even could be late considering his promptness to every date the two had been on for the past six years- it was just that Nico was exceptionally early. His nerves had carried him to their meeting destination half an hour before the scheduled time.
Nico huffed out a laugh as he tried to dry the sweat on his hands using his jeans. He’d been dating Will for six whole years. It didn’t seem that long, really, although Nico also felt like someone could tell him he’d spent eternity with Will Solace and he wouldn’t argue. Still, six years was a long time for demigods when wars were seemingly around every corner.
The last few years had been relatively peaceful in comparison to the first few Nico spent outside the Lotus Casino. Nico was glad. He didn’t think he could cope with any more losses right now. He was still carrying the weight of all his other lost loved ones close to his chest, as were many of his other friends.
Will would be here soon, Nico noted, checking his watch for the twelfth time in the past ten minutes. He usually arrived at least ten minutes early so any second now, Nico would spot him walking up the hill.
Now that both of them had left Camp Halfblood, they lived in an apartment near Percy and Annabeth, near enough to both the mortal college Nico was attending and the hospital Will was interning at. Nico really didn’t understand how Will was still only an intern considering he’d had more medical experience than most doctors in the world and he was only twenty-one.
Nico still wasn’t entirely sure what he wanted to do with his life. Right now, he was very happy taking his degree in psychology. Nico had never imagined that he’d find himself attending school, never mind going on to college, but he’d found himself to actually enjoy the learning environment. Will was very proud of him too, not that that impacted his enjoyment of it in the slightest.
“Neeks, what’s got you looking so worried?” A soft voice startled Nico out of his thoughts as a hand encircled his wrist, gently. Nico stopped his pacing to come face to face with Will who had also changed out of his wedding attire, now sporting a light blue hoodie with a basketball shirt underneath. Nico nearly laughed out loud. Will didn’t even like basketball- especially with the number of arms he’d had to sew back on after particularly aggressive games at Camp Halfblood.
“I’m fine, don’t worry about it. Just- anxious to show you this, I suppose,” Nico wormed his way around the truth. Will considered him with analytical eyes as if he was a particularly complex branch of the nervous system in one of Will’s many anatomy books.
“Alright, I’ll believe you for now but you’d better not be lying, di Angelo,” he conceded, taking a hold of the sides of Nico’s corduroy jacket to tug him in a bit closer.
“Why would I lie to you?” Nico mumbled. Will smiled, clearly pleased with his response, and placed a gentle kiss on his lips.
“Aren’t you boiling in that jacket?” Will asked when he pulled away. Nico went red in the cheeks. He honestly was way too warm in the thick jacket intended for Winter. Despite the Spring breeze, it was just too heavy, but Nico had once been gifted the jacket by Will and he wasn’t about to take it off for tonight.
“A little, but it’s night and I run cold so I wanted to be prepared,” Nico argued. Will laughed and stroked the sunshine embroidered on the pocket that he’d sewn on himself.
“You, sir, are the biggest dork I know,” Will accused, “but-“ he continued when Nico tried to interject, “it just makes me love you even more.”
Will placed on arm over Nico’s shoulder and kissed the top of his head as Nico began to lead them higher up the hill for the perfect viewpoint.
“Now who’s the dork,” Nico grumbled, glancing up at Will with way more adoration in his eyes than he’d intended.
The two walked in silence for a little bit, Nico analysing the sky until he finally decided on the perfect spot.
“Ok,” Nico announced, “here’s good.”
“Nico, I hate to break it to you, but we’re still in the middle of the hill,” Will pointed out, looking around him as if he expected to find some big surprise.
“You’re so impatient,” Nico complained, tugging Will’s hand to get him to sit down on the ground next to him, “do you trust me?”
Will’s eyes found his, softening under the gaze.
“Of course I do, death boy,” he promised. Nico smiled and nodded, checking his watch again. Once upon a time, he would have complained at the nickname, but he’d grown to love with over the years. Not that any of the others would find out- they still found a sword at their necks if they attempted to call him ‘Neeks’ or made a jab at his heritage. Will was just… Will. He got away with everything when it came to Nico.
“We have about ten minutes. Tell me about your day whilst we wait,” Nico insisted.
“Nico, you were with me for most of it,” Will snorted with laughter. Nico rolled his eyes.
“I know that, duh, but who did you catch up with at the wedding? How was your trip to the hospital before you came here?” Nico asked. Will sprawled himself out across Nico’s lap, gazing up at him cheekily.
“Aw, you care about me that much?” Will teased.
“No, I just want the gossip,” Nico shrugged. Will gasped in mock horror and Nico huffed a laugh, brushing stray hairs away from Will’s eyes as his boyfriend finally launched into the stories he’d been after.
“So I talked to Piper at the wedding first, when you went over to talk to Percy and Annabeth. I asked how she was doing with Carys and the two are doing well. Piper’s thinking of asking her to be her girlfriend soon which is cute. Apparently, Carys memorised her coffee order after only two dates and she brings her flowers every date,” Will started.
“That is cute,” Nico noted, “pretty sure you don’t even know my coffee order.”
“You don’t like coffee, you nerd. You get a small hot chocolate with almond milk in every café we go in,” Will proved, his face breaking into a grin.
“Wow,” Nico said satirically, “a man after my own heart.”
Will lightly hit his stomach in complaint before continuing his story.
“So after that, Carys came up and I said hi and made small talk but decided to leave the two alone so they could get to the good stuff,” Will said, causing Nico to snort at his phrasing, “so I went to talk to your sister and Frank, ask them how they were doing and stuff.”
“You were talking to them for way longer than that. What are you hiding?” Nico noticed. Will pouted.
“When did you get so good at reading me?” he complained.
“Somewhere between Apollo arriving at camp and that time you tried to convince me Lou Ellen and Cecil still weren’t dating despite the fact I’d seen them making out in front of the Hecate cabin,” Nico noted.
“Fine, Hazel did tell me something but she made me swear not to tell you, so I won’t,” Will conceded with a sigh.
“What? That’s so unfair, she usually tells me everything,” Nico huffed. Will shrugged.
“She wants it to be a surprise,” he pointed out. Nico wracked his brains to think of a way to prise the information out of Will when he had a perfect idea.
“Okay, you won’t tell me? I’ll tickle it out of you,” Nico decided and before Will could even jump up in protest, Nico had flipped himself onto all fours above Will and his hands were already tracing lightly up and down his abdomen.
“W-wait, Nico! N-no hahaha don’t p-please don’t,” Will stammered, wriggling around under Nico’s dancing fingertips. Nico grinned down at his boyfriend as he became a blushing, writhing mess. Watching Will come undone beneath his fingertips was something that always made Nico’s day, even if it was just tickling this time.
“Tell me, then, Solace,” Nico demanded.
“Nicoooo,” Will complained, breathing heavily as he attempted and failed to grab Nico’s hands and still them.
“Fine, fine! I’ll tell you, but you have to pretend you don’t know when she tells you herself,” Will spluttered, gasping for breath as Nico’s hands finally stilled.
Nico pulled Will back up to a sitting position but remained firmly in his lap, looking expectantly into Will’s eyes. He still couldn’t believe Hazel had told Will something before she’d told him. Will was practically already a part of the family.
“She’s pregnant,” Will whispered as if there were people around to overhear, “and Frank is going to ask her to marry him once the baby is born.”
“No way!” Nico yelled, jumping to his feet angrily, “I’m going to be an uncle and my own sister didn’t bother to tell me?”
Will laughed at Nico’s antics before the smaller boy dived back down and grabbed Will’s face, planting a hurried but intense kiss on his mouth.
“Thanks for telling me. I’m going to hold this against her forever when she tells me and you dramatically announce that you already knew. Then I’m going to look so betrayed and declare that she’s no sister of mine anymore.”
“You are so overdramatic. I can’t believe how grumpy and quiet you used to be,” Will laughed, pulling Nico back into his side. Nico finally sighed and settled in. He was still struggling to comprehend the information. He was going to be an Uncle and his sister had wanted to keep it secret from him.
“There’s more,” Will added. Nico looked at him a little frenzied.
“What could possibly top that news?” he asked.
“Hades has invited all four of us to the Underworld to celebrate the birth of his grandson,” Will sighed. Nico’s heart sped up a little in panic. Will and the Underworld was not a good combination, as Nico recently discovered.
The first time Will went to the Underworld was the Spring after Hades had invited him. Nico had figured it was safest to take him when Persephone wasn’t around. Nico wished he’d remained as cautious.
Will usually visited the Underworld every Spring. Hades was gradually attempting to infiltrate more and more of Nico’s life and, as he constantly reiterated, apparently Nico’s love life was integral. However, after Will officially finished his course and was allowed to intern at the hospital that Autumn=, Hades invited the pair down for a meal.
It turns out, Persephone does not like children of Apollo and children of Apollo are surprisingly adept at killing plants. Nico really hadn’t been expecting an invite back ever again.
“Are we going?” Nico asked, uncertainly. Will raised an eyebrow.
“I have no problem if she doesn’t mind,” he shrugged.
“Will, every time I go down there she asks me if I’ve broken up with you yet. She’s even actively sought me out whilst out of the Underworld to tell me to get rid of you,” Nico smirked.
“Really?” Will asked and his eyes looked surprisingly bright. It was almost as if he was proud of finally having found an immortal enemy.
“Yes. She still hates you,” Nico assured him. He pretended not to notice the small fist pump Will did out of respect for his boyfriend’s reputation.
“We could always just suggest we have the meal in the summer months, anyway, even if the baby’s born when Persephone’s there,” Will shrugged. Nico raised an eyebrow.
“That seems a bit illogical. It would just be a meal for the sake of a meal,” he pointed out. Will shrugged.
“Hades has a surprisingly good chef. I don’t mind.”
Nico shook his head in exasperation when suddenly, a bright light caught his attention.
“Will, it’s starting,” he gasped excitedly.
“What’s starting?” Will queried. Nico grinned at him.
“There’s a meteor shower tonight. I brought you here so we could watch it,” he explained. Will gasped up at the sky as another light shot across it and then turned to smile at Nico.
“You’re such a sap,” he pointed out, “but thank you. This is a nice surprise.”
Nico curled up against Will’s side with his head on his shoulder as Will rested his own head on Nico’s, gazing up at the sky as he curled his arm around Nico’s back. It strangely reminded Nico of the position they’d been in the very first time they sat together to watch the sky. It had been a campfire night and Will had invited Nico. Nico had been so tired he hadn’t even registered what he’d been doing when he curled up against Will. Knowing what he knew now, he supposed Will hadn’t minded.
The two watched the meteors flash across the sky in silence for a while before Will spoke up.
“I can sense that there’s a reason you brought me to the meteor shower. Like, I feel as though I’ve forgotten an inside joke or something,” he muttered. Nico shifted slightly to turn and face him.
“Well, it was a long time ago, now, but when we first went to the campfire together during the summer we got together, I was so sleepy I traced your freckles and tried to tell you that they looked like a myriad of stars,” Nico smiled, bringing his finger up to once again trace Will’s freckles, “now the stars remind me of you so I wanted to bring you to see this.”
Will’s eyes melted as he gazed back at Nico.
“Every time I think you can’t get any more romantic, you go and pull off something like this. How am I supposed to top this?” he sighed, moving to cup Nico’s face. Nico felt his heart rate increase tenfold. Will had given him a perfect opening. The meteor shower was still raining above them in the stars. Now was the time.
The small, black box in his jacket pocket felt as if it was burning a hole through the fabric.
“Well,” Nico started, noting how short his breath was, “you could say yes.”
“What?” Will asked in confusion, his eyes going wide as he watched Nico get to his feet. Nico pulled the box out of his pocket and knelt down onto one knee, opening the box to present the ring he’d spent hours pondering over with Piper, Reyna and Annabeth. There was no backing down, now.
“William Solace,” he started, glancing at Will tentatively and noticing that he already had tears forming in his eyes, “when I first met you, I thought you were an idiot. Not because you were stupid, but because, for some strange reason, you wanted to be friends with me. You were persistent, infuriating and I thought I’d manage to scare you away within a day. I’d clearly underestimated just how persistent and infuriating you were because you stuck around. You always have stuck around. I was in such a dark place when you first met me and you stuck around to help pull me out. Whenever I doubted myself, you stuck around and assured me that I was safe, that I was enough and that I was loved. When someone sticks around that much, it’s hard not to fall in love with them, and falling in love with you was one of the easiest things I’ve ever done in my life. I fall more in love with you every day and-“ Nico paused to sniff. He was crying. “-and I want that to continue for the rest of my life. I want to be with you for the rest of my life. I want to wake up every morning with you by my side so I can tell you how incredible you are, how kind you are, how impressive you are and how amazing your mom’s pancakes are. I promise that’s not the only reason why I’m asking this, but Will, will you marry me?”
Nico wiped his eyes with his free hand the second he finished only to see Will in a similar state, tears pouring freely down his cheeks.
“Nico,” he sighed, “do you even have to ask? Yes, yes, yes, a thousand times yes I will marry you and I am so mad that you beat me to it but I suppose I can forgive you because of the speech you just gave.”
“I’ve had it memorised for a month,” Nico laughed through his tears. Will’s laughter soon joined his own and before he could even move to stand up or sit down, Will had leapt on top of him and was kissing him. It was salty and messy and their lips were hardly touching because of how much they were both laughing, but Nico didn’t think they’d ever shared a more perfect kiss.
“You are so incredible, Nico di Angelo. I love you so much,” Will announced when the two finally finished laughing. Nico pushed them up into a sitting position rather than being sprawled out on the grass.
“I love you too,” he added. Will glanced down at the ring still stored in the little box Nico had been clutching so tightly.
“This is beautiful. I hope you like the one I bought for you,” Will sighed as Nico took his hand and gently slid the ring onto his finger.
“You already bought me one?” Nico asked. Will rolled his eyes as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“Obviously!” he said, “you’re not the only one that wanted to get married, y’know.”
“I’m glad,” Nico smiled, resting his head against Will’s. Will cupped his cheek and pressed their lips together once again, his lips curving up against Nico’s in a smile.
This time, Nico kissed him back properly rather than laughing, wrapping his arms around his boyfriend- no, fiancé-’s neck to pull him closer. Will wrapped his arms around Nico’s waist, his thumbs sliding underneath Nico’s shirt so that he could slide a hand up onto Nico’s bare back.
Nico could feel the cold metal of Will’s new ring on his finger against his skin. He pressed further into the kiss, holding Will as tightly as he could. Right there, Nico wasn’t afraid of the future at all. He was going to marry Will. For a son of Hades, Nico’s life was pretty incredible.
He wouldn’t change one bit of it for the world.

Spoilers for Trials of Apollo (Also I’m ignoring Jason’s death)
Headcannon: When Estelle becomes older, she wanted to be apart of the Demigod World a lot more, like how Rachel wanted. When she becomes older, she goes to Camp Haft-Blood and even Camp Jupiter. Growing up she saw all these badass women such as Annabeth, Piper, Reyna, Thalia and especially Hazel who becomes her role model. Estelle trains and works hard to be as great as her brother.
Once she’s around 15, there was a monster attack during a “Capture the Flag” game. She see the Hunters in action for one of the first times. Sure she’s seen them several times but not like this. She quickly helps the hunters and save them a few times during a monster attack.
Thalia is blown away from her skill and asks if she wants to join the Hunt. Estelle immediently says yes and was recruited in the hunt. At this point I’m going to mention that most of the Camp is here. Percy is pretty mad because being in the Hunt is a pretty dangerous job and she’s a mortal. Once they go back so the Posiden Cabin, they have a huge fight. Percy leaves to go stay with Nico in the Hades cabin for the night. Nico and Percy have a conversation of letting Estelle live her life the way she wants to and that Nico went through the same thing with Bianca. Percy gose back to his cabin and apogizes to Estelle, she explains to him why she wanted to join the hunt. Percy ends up understanding why Estelle wants to do this, so she can be apart of the demigod world and not be some silly old mortal who dosen’t know how to fight.
Sally was proud of her daughter and supported her decision fully. Paul on the other hand was unsure but Thalia and Reyna resures him she’ll be fine. After a couple of days, it’s official that Estelle Blofis is part of The Hunters if Artemis. Throughout the years, Estelle still keeps in contact with her family and friends and visits. She gose to the wedding and even see her nieces and nephews. She finds a family in the hunters and has that feeling of sisterhood and love without needing a romantic partner.
After a couple hundred years, Thaila and Reyna both pass away in battle. Once Thaila passes, Estelle becomes the new Lieutenant of Artemis. She loves the job and loves the hunters and treat them like siblings. Estelle likes to make pop culture references to the older hunters and dose a bunch of stupid shit like jokes and pranks (which she learned from the one and only Leo Valdez). She still is a badass though and has killed many monsters and even went on a few quests. Sometimes during the Campfire, Estelle will tell stories of the demigods before her and there adventures, which always amazes the younger hunters. At night she’ll sometimes look up at the sky and see the stars, knowing that her friends and family and living a peaceful afterlife in the Eslyium and that one day, she’ll see them soon.

Hello there!
And, there we have it folks! The last chapter. I really hope you enjoyed this fic, I had a lot of fun writing it. I'm sorry these past few updates were all over the place, and not really the best, and I know the upload schedule is really screwed up, but it is what it is. But even with all that, I am proud of this fic, and I really put my heart and soul into every bit of it. Once more, I really hope you liked it.
As promised, there will be an epilogue coming soon, probably next week. I'm divided between these two ideas, so if you guys want to see any of these, please drop your favorite concept, or any ideas you might have, in the comments: -Christmas; -Annabeth/Percy's birthday.
Once more, I really loved this fic, and I hope you enjoyed it too. Thank you for giving it a chance, and thank you for all your support. It truly means the world to me. Your lovely comments made me want to keep going with this, and they brought a huge smile on my face whenever I read them. I tried to reply to all of them in the best way possible and as fast as I could. But honestly guys, thank you for reading this, thank you for the kudos, the bookmarks, thank you for the comments, thank you for the support, the lovely words. Thank you for being awesome. I love you all!
As for any future Percabeth stories, I'll be taking a little break from this pairing for a little while. I'm gonna work on maybe some one-shots, because I have officially started working on a new Percabeth fic, one that will be a lot longer and a lot slower-paced, and will include more of other characters besides Percy and Annabeth. But I'm also working on some stuff for other fandoms, so I want to have at least the first six or seven chapters pre-written, so in case I ever lose some motivation or don't have time to write like I did with this one near the end, I'll have some stuff already prepared. The chapters will be 8-12k words long (I think), just as this one, so the updates will probably be slow.
But we'll see all that when I actually start posting it. Like I said, for now, I'm maybe gonna post some short one-shots in between this fic and the new one, to keep y'all entertained, and we'll see for the stuff that comes after. There will be stuff from and for other fandoms too in the mix, so there's something to look forward to.
As always, if you wish to contact me here on Tumblr, or you can just ask me anything on AO3, in the comments or wherever. Just as it is on any other chapter, feedback is welcome and much appreciated. Like I said, I love reading your comments, and I'd really like to hear your thoughts on this finale. And once more, for the epilogue, please tell me which idea you prefer, or I might just have to roll a dice and see.
Anyway, that's all for now. I'll see you guys on the epilogue next week, and hopefully, in future works! Thank you all for everything one more time! I love you all, you're the best! <3

DISCLAIMER: I do not own any of the characters in this story, or any of the songs or lyrics mentioned!
WARNING: This chapter contains mentions of unconsentual kissing!
They were sitting at the bar-counter in Thalia's kitchen, the music blasting from the other room dulled down by the closed door. Percy had made them both milkshakes, and they were just sipping from their cups, talking about this and that. The sound of his singing voice still rang in her ears. She was positive she had never heard something that beautiful. He sounded so relaxed, so happy, so overjoyed, so Percy. She was pretty sure something bad would hit him in the morning, the bad memories of his days as the singer of the band, the nightmares from the past, because he had had to get at least a little drunk to sing, and he sang because of peer pressure of the others present at the party, but he did seem somewhat happy. Annabeth was sure she had never felt better than singing when she was singing You're My Best Friend with him.
“You were great out there,” she finally broke the silence they had fallen into. Percy looked up at her from his glass, eyebrows raised slightly in question. “When you were singing. You really sound great.”
“Uh, thanks,” Percy smiled shyly, looking back down to his milkshake, “I have to say, I missed it. I missed that feeling. It's not the same as being on stage, ya know, but I still missed it.”
“I get it,” Annabeth nodded, taking a sip from her glass, “I mean, I've never had or lost something like that, but I think I get what you mean.”
“Ya know, I've sung about a million times in my life before, but I think this one, singing with you, was my favorite,” he whispered. Annabeth looked up to see him staring at her with the softest smile she had ever seen. It was contagious, she couldn't help herself but respond in the same way. Percy had that effect on her, he managed to make her smile just by looking at her with those big, soft, painfully green eyes.
“Really?”
“Yes,” Percy nodded, his smile spreading into a small grin, “So much that it almost made me want to give the whole music thing another go...” he looked back down at the marble counter.
Annabeth reached over, cupping her tiny hand over his big one, squeezing it lightly, “Maybe you should. If you feel like it's the right thing to do. But if you think it'll hurt again, then don't. No one is forcing you into anything. The way they made you sing tonight wasn't right, but if it made you happy for even just a second, then I'm glad they did it. But whatever you decide, I'll be by your side.”
“You will?” he looked back at her, his eyes full of pure hope.
Annabeth smiled, “Yes. Always.”
“Thanks, Wise Girl,” he squeezed her hand, smiling softly at her again.
The two lapsed into silence after that, but it wasn't weird, but it also wasn't comfortable either. There was something on the tip of Annabeth's tongue, something she desperately wanted to say to him, but she couldn't pin-point it. She had had this feeling for a while now, something trying to claw its way out of her mouth and mind, but she didn't know what this something was.
Thankfully for her, Percy broke the silence before she could blurt out something she didn't really understand. “Ya know, there's uh, there's something I've wanted to tell you. Um, something important. And, for, for a while now, but I guess I, uh, I never really knew how. But um, I guess now is as good a time as any. So, uh... I, uh...” He was fidgeting with his hands, avoiding her questioning gaze, and she could hear his foot tapping against the barstool. To be honest, Annabeth was a little concerned. Percy only got like this if it was something really important if he was really anxious over something.
But before he could say anything further, there was a beep, and the screen of his phone tossed to the side lit up. Percy shot her an apologetic little smile and picked it up. It was well past midnight, so whatever it was, it had to be important. Annabeth nodded and waited silently for him to finish whatever was happening.
She assumes now that that's when things went wrong.

I’m halfway through The Lost Hero and I’m still really liking it. The quest is moving along quickly but not too quickly. I’m starting to like everyone even more.
I like Jason but he’s still missing too much of who he is for me to really like him yet. I like that he’s already become attached to Leo and Piper. He seems to really care about them and people in general and he wants to help them.
I’m starting to really like Piper. She’s very smart and genuine. She knows who she is and you don’t get that a lot especially in young female protagonists. I really hope she finds a way to resist these giants or whatever that have her dad.
Jason and Piper are still really cute even if their circumstances are really weird.
I think Leo has become my favorite. His history is so crazy and kind of cool but also pretty scary. I can tell that he has a lot ahead of him. I think he can be really powerful and helpful but I feel like he can also be very much not. He’s really smart and he stays lighthearted and comedic through this whole crazy quest and I like that about him. He’s starting to become more confident and proud and it makes me happy.
We’re slowly learning more and more about Jason but it’s all so vague and cryptic and it’s just making me want to know more about him. Like the fact that Thalia is his sister. How are they siblings and is she going to show up in the book because I really hope so?
I really want to know why the Roman aspects of these dang gods mean so much because I feel like that is very important.
All of the information and clues we’ve gotten about this quest, the gods, everyone’s destiny and Jason have been so ominous. I feel like the ending of either this book or this series is going to be crazy and so many bad things are going to happen and I’m not ready for it because there hasn’t really been anything that bad yet.

If the Avengers and HOO/BOO characters came together
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Clint Barton would immediately make a fatherly connection with all. of. them. Especially Percy, who’s dealt with a lot of abuse for a majority of life because of Smelly Gabe. Clint is kinda just the man that Percy needs in his life.
Percy would also grow close with Tony and Natasha; seeing as they all have a similar sense of humor and have a habit of pissing off the wrong people. The three of them understand each other in ways other people never possibly could. And the three of them all on the same team? That’s one hell of a sass team.
You might think Percy, Nat and Tony together are too much to handle; but just wait when Leo gets in the mix.
Percy also seems to really like being around Sam Wilson as well—but they definately have a “dude/bro” kinda relationship rather than a father/son relationship. They share a lot of inside jokes, and have similar personalities.
Percy and Bucky definately have some kind of friendship/father/son going also; they’ve both experienced things that no one ever should. They’ve both been traumatized and tortured in ways others couldn’t ever imagine. Bucky, who had managed to overcome most of his trauma, teaches Percy how to come to terms with his own and vise/versa. They also tend to share their own stories when the time is right. These two really understand each other.
In the end, Percy has a really good relationship with all of the Avengers. He’s just too easy to get along with if your vibe matches. Percy’s loyal and (sometimes) reasonable, which is why he’s so widely trusted and easily considered reliable among the team.
Natasha would absolutely become like a mentor to Piper. She would teach Piper how to be a badass and fly asf all at the same time when needed—they’d either become like sister or mother & daughter, I still can’t decide which.
“You are strong, beautiful, and powerful.” Natasha reminded Piper, who was mervous for her first mission with the team, “nothing can beat you. Remember that.”
Also, Peter P. definately as a huge crush on Piper.
Don’t tell Jason.
Leo and Pietro are hella troublesome, like, they’re both so hyper and fast paced that everyone has a hard time keeping up with them. But they can keep up with each other just fine, which makes them the perfect fit, ya know? They’re basically the best brother/brother duo to ever exist.
Leo would also get along hella good with Thor—they both have the same kind of cocky behavior on the outside, but on the inside they’re both really unsure of themselves and they can bond over that
Leo also gains a father/son connection with Tony. They’re both really in tune with engineering and creating things, they can teach each other. Best of all, Leo helps Tony improve his products to help build up his industry even more.
And Leo loves helping Tony create the best suits for the rest of the team—when they work together on these londs of things, you can expect it to be hella advanced.
“You’re going places, kid,” Tony oftened praised, which was a big change for Leo. No one ever really noticed his talent. “I’m sure of it.”
Just like with Pietro, Leo and Peter P. have a good relationship also. They’re both really smart and quick in similar ways, but also very differently.
Steve is the kinda guy Nico needs in his life—Cap is lighthearted, understanding, and trustworthy. Because Hades isn’t always so dependable, Steve is the man Nico turns to for actual good advice because he knows Steve can be trusted.
But because Nico can really appreciate comfortable silence, he and Bucky vibe pretty well. They aren’t awkward around each other, and both have experienced similar trauma. That being said, they all understand what it’s like to be thrown into a completely different time period. It’s something that Nico, Steve and Bucky can relate to.
But unlike Nico, Hazel and Wanda finds themselves drawn to each other. Like sisters, mostly. They know what it’s like to be treated like their weird; with Hazel’s mortal mother being a ‘witch’ and Wanda pretty much being a witch herself, it kinda just pulls them to each other.
Jason and Thor would be pretty tense—with Thor being the god of thunder and Zeus the god of lightning, they just have an unspoken mindset that wants to prove which is better than the other. BUT there are times when the two work together very well; they have a very strange love/hate relationship, kind of like an older brother and a younger brother. In the end, they DO care for and appreciate one another.
Jason would also probably look up to Steve, hoping that one day he could be as 'righteous’ and as good of a leader. The Roger’s man is strong and intimidating when he has to be, but friendly and laid back on the regular.
Jason and Nat would both probably have a pretty big brother/sister relationship. They had both been trained young to fight and show no merch, both their parents sucked. It was like they had lived the same lives with the same parents, despite not ever knowing the other had existed.
“We’ve lived rough lives,” Natasha once said, “but only so that we can provide better ones, safer ones, for the people who can’t do it themselves. It had to be us.”
Just like Percy, Jason and Sam have a “dude/bro” kind of relationship. And the three of them often hang out in Sam’s apartment making stupid jokes and messing around. It’s nice to have some mortal friends that can introduce them to normal human things, and Sam does just that.
Frank and Clint definately hit it off pretty good. Sooner or later, the two of them become like father/son like Clint does with all of them. But they’re different. The two of them fight back-to-back with their bow and arrows and together, they’re basically unstoppable. On missions, the rest of the team usually like to say things like, “we’re gonna need our favorite archers for this one”
Frank, for the most part, tried to avoid Tony. The Stark man just gets on his nerves sometimes with his cocky attitude. But, Frank’s a pretty reasonable person. He pushes aside his channeling resentment when it’s time to get serious.
Much like Hazel, Frank gets along well with Wanda. They have pretty strange powers, and when the time is right, like to show off to each other what they can do. It’s not a competition; they’re just genuinely interested in the things one another can do.
Thor and the Stoll brothers would drfinately welcome each other with wide open arms. They have similar humors and personalities, and after losing his chance to truly make Loki his brother, he finds that Connor and Travis Stoll are the younger brothers he needed all along. In a way, they’re just Loki—but kind of a better version of him. Thor doesn’t doubt for a second that Loki and the Stoll’s would’ve appreciated each other’s company.
Also, these kids would def love Stephen Strange, and Stephen Strange would def love them, too. They each have abilities they’ve never even imagined having, and Strange has no problem helping them reach their full potential.
But most importantly, Stephen would see HUGE potential in Annabeth. So he would take her under his wing and teach her to do the things he knows how to do; it just fits so well.
And overtime, he begins to father her more than he mentors her. Because Stephen knows that Annabeth could never really come to terms with her mortal father—he was just too misunderstanding toward her, it was toxic. At this point, he’s like her emotional support.
And Annabeth is so smart and strategic, Stephen is just so frickin proud of how far she’s come as she really begins to understand the concept of his magic. And just like with Chiron, Annabeth looks up to Strange. She just wishes she had run into him earlier. Maybe then she and Percy wouldn’t have had to suffer through Tartarus and all that. Maybe she could’ve protected Thalia all those years ago.
And Stephen may not ever have his own kids, but having Annabeth often refer to him as her father makes his nose tingle emotionally. Her biological father had really given up something that could’ve been a truly amazing aspect in his life.
“I’m proud of you, Annabeth. I really am.”
And Annabeth almost cried, thankful that someone other than Percy really appreciated her talents.
That’s what really needed in the end—recognition, support, and for people like Leo or Nico, all they needed was some sort of family that could see not their flaws, but their potential.

two packages are left on gabe’s doorstep on wednesday morning. the one addressed to gabe includes two mugs, two stoneware planters, and a matching knitted set of mittens, a scarf, & a beanie. the package addressed for thalia include a book, a jewelry box, a stuffed animal, and a matching knitted set of mittens, a scarf, and a hat. attached to package is an envelope with the following note in it:
Dear Gabe, I know I agreed to not spoil Thalia too much. In my defense though, I did not say goodbye to her before I left so I feel like I should get this one time pass to makeup to her with gifts. And to you. Joking aside, I really am sorry I didn’t stop by before leaving. I’ll swing by the store this afternoon if that’s alright. Just didn’t want to wait until then for you two to get yours gifts. I really hope you both like them. Sincerely,  Ben
a package is left on kiran’s doorstep tuesday night. the items included are a leather paint brush holder, a container of paint brush cleaner, a knitted sweater, and a set of two mugs. attached to package is an envelope with the following note in it:
Dear Kiran,  I know I’ve already said this, but I am really sorry that you had to find out I left by seeing a different doctor in the clinic. That wasn’t fair. I do want to state that even if I had said goodbye, I still would have gotten you gifts so this isn’t me buttering you up to accept my apologize. Your feelings are justified and you can be upset if that’s how you feel. I just saw these things and thought of you. I hope you like them. I thought the brush holder and brush cleaner would go well with what I got you for your birthday. Sincerely,  Ben
a package is given to malia on tuesday when ben sees her. he asks her to hold off on opening until she gets home. the items included are a chunky knit blanket, a hand woven merino wool scarf, two sweatshirts, a set of two mugs, and a box of cannoli wafer sandwiches. attached to package is an envelope with the following note in it:
Dear Malia, I know these gifts were not necessary, probably even more so since your birthday was a few weeks back. But I saw these and thought of you so I had to get them for you. Especially the sweatshirts. I can’t remember if I told you, but I actually went to Columbia. Both for college and medical school. So that’s actually one of my old sweatshirts that I got back from a friend while I was home. The fact that you got into the school would have made your mom proud, and I know you kept it from her so that she wouldn’t feel guilty for you giving up your dream to take care of her. For what it’s worth, I’m proud of you. Not just because of the scholarship, but for everything. They would have been lucky to have you there. And of course the iconic I heart NY sweatshirt because you also missed out on that. It’s a silly little thing, I know. I hope you love it all the same. Sincerely, Ben
a package is left for sofia on the library counter wednesday afternoon. ben is in and out before she could see him. the items included are a mug, a matching knitted set of gloves & a scarf, and a collection of books. attached to package is an envelope with the following note in it:
Dear Sofia,  While I was in New York I stopped by the New York Public Library. I got a few books that the library has been in need of and a few extra books that you can keep for yourself or put in the library for everyone else. The mug is just a little keepsake I thought you might like. And the gloves and scarf is because I know it can get pretty chilly in there, especially during winter time which is fast approaching us. Anyways, I hope you are doing well. Sincerely, Ben
