best metal recommendations for beginners (me)

wagging the tail I don't have at this ask!!! ok so I'll note that Most of the bands I listen to use a good amount of gutturals so that's a warning but I do have some that dont. anyway!

my personal best recommendation is trivium, they're just Solid I Think. they're not Too hard overall. or some of their songs are but some aren't, rather. my favorite album of theirs is sin and the sentence personally but in the court of the dragon, shogun and ascendancy have some good tunes too!

uhhh some other slightly lower key (ears wise anyway) ones... dark tranquillity's newer albums are pretty good! moment and atoma rule!! (I personally like the gallery but that ones older and so kind of A Lot). in flames is always solid too though I don't have any Album recs from them (only for the weak is like iconic though as a song 👍)

oh wait hold on I completely forgot about the more like. orchestral metal. orchestral metal isn't really my taste but I do appreciate it for the spectacle. kamelot and epica are both in that regard! also if you want some more gutturals in with your violins may I recommend fleshgod apocalypse (by far the best name here). oh or ne obliviscaris if you like songs that last 12 minutes. their instrumentals are gorgeous though.

as for: (probably not good bands to listen to as somebody new to it but it's how I got hooked so hey) arch enemy is Really Good, especially wages of sin and later in my opinion. if you have my music taste. i have a 50 song long playlist (its on spotify though i didnt have time to move it to youtube) of my arch enemy favorites if you're interested that's my favorite band.

uhhhh also these next two aren't actually bands I'm a Huge fan of perse but yknow how some people listen to hyperpop because their brain itches. yeah parasite inc and allegaeon are the metal equivalent of that to me. I'm really pick and choose with their songs but most of time tears down from parasite inc is good for Brain Static and I enjoyed most of damnum from allegaeon! (though warning for that one at least one of the songs (coming home) has a very graphic depiction of suicide). allegaeon also just has really good instrumentals in general like jeez.

oh! also obligatorily mentioning the metal: hellsinger ost. it has vocalists from a lot of the bands I just mentioned. it's good.

alternatively if you want you can check out my playlist of what songs I personally like (most of the bands I listed are on here and some i didnt) and if any strike a chord with you you can look into those bands from there!

though uhhhhh. skip the ambersun songs. those are songs for a hatoful boyfriend-based metal album (that I to this day wonder what the target audience was apart from Me) and thus spoilers.

Hips Don't Lie - Billy Cobb. I am a sucker for this guy's covers. This one in particular is my favorite.

They Provide Paint for the Picture-Perfect Masterpiece that You Will Paint on The Insides Of Your Eyelids - Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution. If you like folk punk pls give this entire album a listen it is so so so good.

Brave as a Noun - AJJ. One of my favorite folk punk artists! The entire album is so incredible. I do like this track a lot, but the album is greater than the sum of its parts.

"don't fall in love, there's just too much to lose ... i beg you to choose to walk away" oh my god. she still sounds pretty worried about how strong love is and how losing a loved one will hurt... 8. don't look back in anger - oasis cover. live. i feel like given the previous song (terrible things) it's like when you walk away to protect yourself from love, don't look back in anger. and at the end of the day, i think this is an album about max. some people talk about how she has growth through the album but honestly idrk about that. it's just her coming to terms with her actions. it's an album about being in love and all the bad things that happen when you're in love. it's an album about deciding to walk away to not hurt yourself. but at the end of the day, people are overcoming that desire to protect themselves. they want to love, even if it hurts.

INTERVIEWER: Moving on, congratulations on the Best Actor award!

HUGH gives the interviewer a shy smile. He takes a sip of the coffee in his hands: Thanks. I was so surprised. I didn't think people enjoyed my performance that much.

INTERVIEWER: Well I guess you were proven wrong. How do you feel about following in your mother's footsteps, instead of racing like your father?

HUGH pauses before speaking: I suppose...I sometimes wonder if I would be suited for it. If I could've done more. At the end of the day, acting feels like keeping my mother's legacy. Many people remember her as my dad's wife, or just a songwriter. She went into acting because she loved it. I just wish she was more recognized for it.

[ There is a moment of silence as Hugh plays with the cup in his hands. ]

INTERVIEWER: I know your acceptance speech brought quite a few people to tears. It was very moving.

HUGH nods: I didn't mean to. I just wanted to thank my mom one more time. And my dad, too.

INTERVIEWER: It was a good kind of tears, I'm sure.

INTERVIEWER: Which of your mother's songs is your favorite?

HUGH: Well, my dad used to try singing "terrible things" to me. He's not a great singer, so emphasis on the try.

INTERVIEWER is handed a note. THEIR eyebrows furrow, looking at HUGH: Sorry, would you be comfortable answering a question about your dad? I know you only agreed to talking about Y/N. We can cut this part out if you mind.

HUGH shakes his head: No, it's quite alright. What was the question?

INTERVIEWER: Well, your father hasn't made any public appearances save for your Academy Award win. It's been many years...would he like to pass on a message?

HUGH: Oh, my dad loves to talk. Let me think. He's old, you know that. I think he enjoys the quiet life. He wouldn't survive in an F1 car nowadays, but he still enjoys driving.

[ HUGH thinks. The INTERVIEWER doesn't prompt him. ]

how do you navigate your feelings towards ziam and cheryl/bear/kate/maya on top of this immense grief? i don't mean to be insensitive but i haven't found an answer for myself yet, i can't believe we'll never get answers now

(To anyone seeing this, read until the end before saying anything thank you.) Well. I'm gonna ramble a bit but bear with me. Spotify played Let Me and Common on shuffle the other day and I cried a bit. It's unfair. It should've never ended this way. But I had already accepted ages ago that we might never know the truth. I still have my beliefs. That Zayn and Liam were together. Maybe they had broken up who knows but if they did then I still truly believe their bond was a once-in-a-lifetime thing. I've gone through so many emotions this past week. But seeing the posts of cheryl etcetc or people mentioning bear (Zayn was the only one who didn't fwiw), it didn't make me feel anything. Maybe bc I had already accepted we couldn't do anything about the stunts, and/or maybe bc it's still difficult for me to accept he's really gone or bc it doesn't matter to me at this moment. Or bc I haven't actually sat down to think about what it means that he's gone. I've just been thinking of the pain all of Liam's loved ones are in right now and will be in for the foreseeable future. And I include Zayn in this. I also don't really want to think about it bc I think I might get angry. We've all seen Liam's video on snapchat from last month, where he said he was stunting and forced to do things he didn't want to do and to send help. I often used to say that I didn't understand why the boys accepted this situation instead of just getting out, consequences be damned. Ofc it's easier said than done. But I thought maybe they thought it was worth it in some way. But then, Louis got out. Zayn got out. (In some way, I mean they have privacy and a real career, like Niall and Harry). I guess I will never understand why Liam was still the only one so stuck in this shitty situation. Why couldn't he live his life in peace like Zayn and only appear when he released music? Why couldn't he find a better team or why did he even accept to go along for so long? Why did people let him? Why?! That's what I want to know. Fucking why. And I want Liam's image/reputation to be redeemed. Anyway I digressed I'm sorry.

I just sincerely hope Zayn will be ok. Jaymi who was in Union J lost his soon-to-be-husband a couple months ago (Olly was buried the day they were supposed to get married last month). They'd been together for 14 years. And Olly died in similar circumstances (a fall from the 3rd floor of a hotel). And as incredibly awful as this is, knowing that other people are going through similar grief helps a bit, and I hope it will help Zayn and Liam's loved ones know they're not alone. (Edit: I'm not saying these deaths are linked, Olly's death is an accident, Jaymi was there when it happened. This paragraph is about not being fully alone in grief because other ppl go through similar things).

Idek if I've answered your question. I guess basically the stunts don't cross my mind coz it's not important to me. These past few years when Liam was alive it wasn't important (tho I hated it) bc I accepted the boys made their own choices. And now it's not important bc it won't bring Liam back and bc his loved ones matter more to me. Now, if I'm actually wrong about my beliefs then it is what it is and I feel for his exes/gf/child, and if the maya thing is true I still think addiction made him act that way and that if he'd got a chance to really get better this wouldn't have happened again. If I'm not wrong tho, I truly feel for Zayn who doesn't get to grieve the way he deserves to. Tho I'm glad he has loved ones who know the truth and who can support him the right way.
