Welcome to the revived Hetalia Kink Meme! This will be hosted both on Tumblr and on Archiveofourown as a prompt meme challenge. I noticed that trying to only host on Tumblr led to some issues, and a lot of people don't know how to use Dreamwidth nowadays so attempting to host it there doesn't work anymore either.

Now, the Hetalia fandom isn't as big as it once was, but I'm still hoping that we manage to get some participation going.

Now, here's a quick FAQ and list of rules:

What's a prompt meme?

It's a place where you can suggest things you want to see written in your fandom, or write people's requests if you happen to see one that strikes your fancy! As a requester, click on "prompt form" and fill out the form. The fields with a * next to them are required fields, but you may choose whether to leave the other fields blank or fill them out.

Required fields: Characters(at least 1), Description(Describe what you want and don't want). That's it!

As a writer, you may click "claim" on somebody's prompt to announce your intention to write it.

But OP!! I thought prompts aren't allowed on ao3!!

You're correct. Usually. Many people don't know that there is actually a special collection challenge type on ao3 that is designed for hosting prompt memes just like this one! There is a separate section for prompts where you can upload prompts/requests. Here's a link to ao3's prompt meme FAQ:

How many prompts can we request?

I made the limit 15 per account. I think this is more than enough. Of course I can't stop you from requesting from multiple accounts but come on man... (If you want to add another prompt that badly you could also delete one of your old prompts.)

How long should our fills be?

I am unlikely to enforce any minimum, but I personally recommend at least 400 words.

Can I write a fic for a prompt that someone has already claimed?

Yes! Multiple fills per prompt are allowed. Two cakes and all that.

Are requests anonymous? What if I want to de-anon a request?

Requests are anonymous by default, but you may de-anon by unchecking the "semi-anonymous prompt" box at the end of your prompt form.

Are the collection works anonymous? What if I want to de-anon the fic I wrote?

COLLECTION WORKS ARE NOT ANONYMOUS BY DEFAULT. When uploading a fic to fulfill a prompt, you may add it to the "anonymous" collection on ao3 to keep yourself anonymous.

NOTE: You won't be able to click claim on a prompt without revealing your username. Unfortunately anonymous claims aren't possible without making the entire collection anonymous. A work around is to just upload your fic to the collection the old fashioned way and then state the prompt you're filling in your A/N.

I heavily debated whether to make the entire collection anonymous, but I ultimately wanted it to be up to the author as to whether to anon or de-anon without them being forced to leave the collection in order to de-anon.

Rules:

1. Your prompt/request must have at least a BIT of description as to what you want. Posting only something like "cat boy!Ivan x dog boy!Alfred" isn't going to do much to get anybody's imagination running. A prompt as short as the above will be considered spam and deleted. Aim to describe a bit of what you want(just a sentence or bullet points is fine, just at long as it's something) as well as what you DON'T want(any squicks etc.)

2. Requests must be for Hetalia. I'll allow crossovers if it seems like a popular enough property. (I.e. Hetalia x Harry Potter). Hetalia AUs such as cardverse are more than welcome!

3. Both requests and fills may be anonymous as stated in the FAQ. To make your request anonymous, click the "semi-anonymous prompt?" box at the bottom of the prompt form. It should be auto selected already. This will make sure your prompt is posted under "anonymous".

To make your prompt fill anonymous, upload your fic to the "anonymous" collection along with this one. Unfortunately clicking "claim" on a prompt will reveal your username and there's nothing I can do to change this. You can make note of which prompt you fulfilled in your A/N.

4. All characters & ships welcome. All kinks and types of prompts and works welcome.

5. Be nice to each other. Mean-spirited asks, prompts, or fills will be deleted.

-I was obsessed with the veiled pieces that OP mentioned and I loved the image of her in gold veils that looked like she was dripping in gold.

- The veils are based on Catholic veils (specifically and 4), medieval head coverings like ones worn in Ophelia 2018 and wimples (2 and 6), Star Wars (5), and the Tudor period (7). Most of them are sheer because one, I couldn’t figure out how to wrap them around her head without her looking like a blob of color and when it did look okay she looked like she was wearing a hijab and it felt too appropriative to draw on Alicent. This is also why her hair is visible in most of them but in practice she would cover them with thicker fabric.

- Alicent wears long billowing sleeves with heavy skirts. OP said that Alicent would wear dresses that conceal her figure which I tried to maintain but some have a shapelier silhouette as it looked better with my art style. I hope one day I will be able to draw modest clothing without making someone look like a blob but I’m not there yet.

- Dress 1 is inspired by the series Isabel 2011, which from what I’ve seen has some nice costumes. It also gave me a good base for something historical and modest but still luxurious.

- The second is based on Lady Macbeth and Ophelia in the Ophelia movie. I debated on adding braids but I think Alicent would’ve worn them. They’re neat, mature, and somewhat conservative hairstyle while also giving her an opportunity to wear more accessories which is expected of her as a queen. I know OP said modest but irl royalty had to wear extravagant clothes to prove their status and with the pressure of civil war and being the second wife, Alicent would certainly wear luxurious jewelry while staying simple compared to the rest of the Targaryens. The beads are Targ inspired as she would also need to embrace Valeryian styles to stay in Viserys’s favor.

- This side view of Alicent has the deepest neckline because that is what worked best for a side view. I also noticed Catholic veils tended to have patterns so I added simple gold flowers. The dress is medieval based.

- What sparked my artistic interest was OP’s descriptions of the veils so I had to do a dedicated work with a veil in the spotlight. In the original post, it was mentioned that Alicent would wear shawls with tapestry like designs. I couldn’t think of anything that would look good with fabric folds and creases but on a lace veil? I could definitely do that. Tbh it’s not my favorite design (Helaena’s was my favorite) but I think it represents Alicent’s loyalties pretty well. I’m personally pleased with how the dragons and tower came out.

- I don’t care about Star Wars but some of Padme’s outfits have screamed Alicent to me since the beginning. The golden lace veil with pearls is the centerpiece so her dress is much more toned down.

- This is again based on Ophelia’s costuming and on OP saying Alicent appears to be dripping in gold wearing golden veils. I added jewelry shaped like the Hightower sigil with green gems decorating it.

- OP mentioned shawls with tassels and patterns so I had to add them onto the last dress. Well, I had fur instead of tassels but the statement still stands. I also tried to make the veil based on Spanish mantillas but it never turned out correct so I kept it simple. The dress is a mix of Alexander McQueen Fall 2011 and the Tudors era.

Consider making a Community that will serve the same purpose as a tumblr sideblog. For example, I made my main blog ceylon-tae and then made the Community "ceylon-tae-art". Just make the Community for now.

If you have something to say about the post, Pillowfort has a nested comments section! Livejournal / Dreamwidth / Reddit users will find this familiar. You can make your own hush-hush commentary in your tags when you reblog a post to your blog, but these tags are not visible anywhere else. For comparison, tumblr discussions lived in reblogs, but comments on AO3 fics are what makes an author's world go 'round. Comments are where discussion lives on Pillowfort. So comment on the post if you have something to say! You can have real discussions again! GO. BE FREE. You can also do a Kung Pow Penis in nested comments if you want to. Nested comments are good.

Likes just tell OP you liked the post. That's it. It's just like how kudos works on AO3.

Remember, there's no algorithm, so Likes don't boost any post's visibility, and if you want other people to see a post, you reblog it. If you want to see posts, you follow people and communities, or you dive into the tags for yourself.

WRITEBLR ETIQUETTE: A COMPENDIUM

– But not really, of course. That’s just to make it sound fancy. This is just a quick list of basic (and maybe not so basic) writeblr rules/etiquette compounded together by myself and other fellow writeblrs. While Tumblr as a whole is a hell-void for everyone to yell into, it’s a hell-void with standards. Please keep these things in mind when you are interacting with others in the writeblr community to create a pleasant environment for everyone involved.

– On Taglist

Taglists are a big part in generating interactions for your posts as it’s the quickest and easiest way to inform people interested in your wip “hey, look guys, I posted a cool thing and wanted to share.” However it is important to remember that taglists should always be opt-in only. As in, someone should explicitly say they want to be on your taglists before you add them. Also an important note: If you have multiple wips on tumblr, you cannot use the same taglist for all of them unless it is a general taglist. Not everyone is going to be interested in all of your wips; please be courteous to your fellow writeblrs and let them choose what content they want to enjoy. There are certain exceptions to this, however. When writing a wip intro you can tag mutuals who you know might be interested to signal boost, but it’s best to only do this once and with permission.

Please don’t abuse your taglist by using it at every little thing related to your wip. Try to keep it to major posts such as: OC introductions, excerpts, WIP updates/announcements, etc. While people do love hearing from you and viewing your content, endless tags can get annoying and will clog up people’s notifications.

A side note: There isn’t a foolproof way of getting people to be on your taglists, but going to people’s inboxes/dms and asking if they want to be in it is definitely not the right way. I would recommend posting an interest check instead to see who is interested. Interest checks are also great if you’re participating in an event and don’t want to spam people with a lot of posts.

– On General Tagging

Make sure to add appropriate tags when posting content. Add all the relevant content warnings, trigger warnings, NSFW and NSFR tags as needed. Nudity and sexual content-- no matter how tasteful-- should be tagged NSFW.

When wanting to interact with another person’s posts, pay attention to the OP’s tags! If they say DNI, do not reblog, etc, then don’t. Definitely do not tag their original work as inspo/prompt/etc. because that’s just plain rude. It can be seen as invalidating, or it diminishes their work as simply inspiration for other people to use instead of something that can stand on its own.

– On Self-Promotion

Accept the facts now: Tumblr clout is fake. However as writers, even if you are a simply doing this as a hobby, we still need to learn how to promote ourselves and our work if we want to gain interaction. The absolute best way to gain interaction– meaningful interaction– is to interact with other people. Tagging a whole bunch of writeblrs asking for a “follow for follow” is going to get you nowhere in the long run, and honestly, is just annoying. If you’re part of a writeblr discord, use that opportunity to make friends and generate meaningful interaction. Don’t just use it as a place to promote your work and just not interact with anyone.

– On Ask/Tag Games

Meet and Greet Monday, Worldbuilding Wednesday, Storyteller Saturday, etc. are fantastic ways to interact with fellow writeblrs and gives a great excuse to talk about details of your wip you normally wouldn’t get to share. Sending asks to other writeblrs is a great way to learn about their wips and to interact with them, but on the other hand, please try to send good or relevant asks. These ask games are as much a way to help writers develop their story as well as sharing fun tidbits. Try to do a little bit of research into a person’s wip before asking, if possible. If you don’t have any good/relevant questions, then it’s ok to skip a week.

If you reblog an ask game from someone, send them an ask as well! It’s quick, easy, polite, and will absolutely make their day.

In relation to tag games: don’t make chain posts. If you’re tagged in something, just make your own separate post. Adding to the OP’s post makes it so that every like, reblog, comment, etc. ends up clogging their notifications which is not fun.

– Miscellaneous

If you like someone’s post, consider reblogging it! Not only does it help other people see their post, it’ll make their day.

In the same vein, try to add something to their post. Whether it’s a reaction gif/pic, a comment, a simple “nice” in the tags, or keysmashing. Writers love hearing from people and it’s just extra incentive to work more. Unsolicited advice, however, is never welcome.

Respect people’s boundaries. Enough said.

If you’re posting a screencap of an excerpt, add a transcript, even if it’s under a “read more.” For graphics, it’s really up to you, but try to add an image description anyway.

Seo Changbin - Andantino by Niels Gade

its just. grand. and something about the C#minor key reminds me of changbin. If we want to get more descriptive - the light left right hand/melody is very gentle, yet there's a lot of staccato when playing this and it kinda reminds me of how changbin can be very... sharp? decisive? to the point? like, he gets stuff done?? and i don't know how that connected in my head but it did so yeah.

Hwang Hyunjin - Gabriel's Oboe (arr. for piano) by Ennio Morricone

okay it's not letting me add the song >:( so i linked it. but this. this is my most favouritist one out of the ones i actually played. it was so nice and free flowing (it literally said 'play freely' on the sheet music??) and so light and please listen to it!! yes i linked the one from my exam book bc i couldn't find a piano cover of it that was as nice as the piano arr. for my exam.

but this song. is so pretty and soft and it reminds me of hyunjin's softness and adoration for beauty and symbolism and maybe i'm self projecting

Lee Felix - To A Wild Rose by Edward Macdowell

it was specifically the B major 7th 2nd inversion chord (?) (4th chord in the actual song) that really solidified it as a felix song for me. but the more i listen to it, the more i think it's not the chord itself but more... i'm not quite sure, i can't place it anymore bc now this is just a felix song.

this song reminds me of lix as well bc lix reminds me of dusty rose, crushed flower petals, and i know 'to a wild rose' isn't really... that but it makes sense in my head? hm.

Kim Seungmin - Canon in D by Pachelbell

Yang Jeongin - Etude (op.45, no.20) by Stephen Heller (idk what to call it bc i've found 3 different titles but yes its op25 no20 from heller)

the beginning really gives off 'lets embark on a new adventure' and i think jeongin has a very.. adventurous vibe sometimes. and idk how to explain it or if it's me coming to the end of my repetoire and struggling to asign songs but the more i think about it and listen to it, i do see this as a jeongin song. kind of. help.

I’m not sure which post you’re referring to but YES!! All of the posts on my blog are free to be reblogged unless they are explicitly tagged “do not reblog”.

The post I made about reposting vs. reblogging really took off which is good because it’s really important for people to understand the difference and know that they’re not the same, BUT it wasn't worded super clearly so here’s a more in-depth breakdown:

reblog: using Tumblr’s built-in reblog button

this makes a copy of the post and puts it on your blog(s) for your followers to see and interact with

it still links back to the original poster (OP), best found through the source link at the bottom of the post, as well as anyone who has added a reblog comment 

the source link can also be an external link if the OP's blog is sharing from another site, i.e. Twitter or Instagram

this is GOOD because if people enjoy the creator’s content, they can easily access their blog/landing page and see more

all of the likes/replies/reblog comments from any reblog still appear on the original post and so are accessible to the OP

very similar to the retweet function on Twitter except that if the OP deletes their original post or blog, all of the reblogs on other people’s blogs still exist

PLEASE REBLOG!! it’s the main feature of Tumblr and it’s how content creators on the site have their work(s) spread around!! unless the OP has explicitly stated that they do NOT want people to reblog their post(s), it’s probably safe to assume that it’s okay to do so

repost: to download, save, screenshot, or otherwise rip a post’s content and upload it in a new post on another blog, website, etc.

BAD! do not do this without asking the creator first (usually the OP) and getting permission to do so 

this means getting an EXPLICIT “yes” and following any other requirements like linking back to the original post, linking the creator’s website/blog, etc.

why is reposting not okay? because it separates the work from the creator and actively makes it harder for people to access the creator’s works

this is a major tactic for “content farms” on places like Instagram where people will steal other people’s work and sometimes profit from uploading it, gaining tons of interactions without ever having to compensate the person who actually made it

if you want to use someone’s art as a profile picture or header (on Tumblr or elsewhere), ask permission as well! some people may not want their art used for this, or may not be legally allowed to say yes

if you do get permission, make sure to still follow any other requirements they set (i.e. credit in your profile’s description)

I’m gonna put some common reposting defenses and what usually does and does not count as reposting under the cut!

Common defenses for reposting:

“I just wanted to share it!”

if you’re reposting to Tumblr... just reblog it. Please.

if it’s outside of Tumblr, you still gotta ask for permission bud, sorry

also, there actually is a share button for Tumblr posts! the button used for sending a post to a Tumblr DM also has share options (the right-facing arrow near Like/Reblog at the bottom of the post). It will create a new post for you on your platform of choice and will link back to the Tumblr post. If you MUST share something outside of Tumblr, at least use this

it also has a very handy “copy link” button so you can grab a direct link to the post

this will, however, grab the link to whichever blog you are seeing it from; I’d recommend doing the extra step of going to the OP’s blog and copying that link

“the OP doesn’t have an XYZ account and I wanted to share it there”

check again

if you're sure they don't, ask for permission, including where you want to post it

use the Tumblr share feature

copy the Tumblr link and add it into the post! hyperlinks (embedding a link in a line of text) are a good way to still link back to the OP while also keeping a post looking "clean"

at the very least, make sure you link back to the creator somehow!

reverse-image Google search! though this can be made unhelpful if it’s a commonly reposted piece (another negative effect of reposting)

if you still don’t remember then maybe? take it down! at the end of the day, it is not yours to post

using art as a profile picture or header (WITH PERMISSION)

reblogging using the reblog button

Basically, at the end of the day, what's most important is to properly credit/cite the creator. Embed a link, tag them, etc., anything that makes it easier for people to find the creator of the content that you're sharing because it means that you're helping other people find and follow creators you like too!
