honestly hate to be an annoying cynic about this but i think the way fandom loves brienne is kind of performative. everyone praises her to hell and back when it is convenient but then she is never mentioned again. like i think many aspects of brienne’s story r relatively underdiscussed, especially when considering her popularity. ik she is very tied to certain characters, but she still has her own independent thing going on, much of which is discussed by relatively few ppl outside of certain circles. especially her endgame. she is either a stock “most moral” character who is only brought up to draw a parallel with or reflect the morality of your faves (even when they have not even met yet, and the parallel barely stands) or she is treated as jaime’s moral compass which robs jaime of agency as well as obviously reducing brienne, or she is just pushed out of the way with all her motivations and personal desires ignored bc she is in the way of a ship or a desired ending for certain characters. then, many just treat her as the “character that everybody likes, so let us use her to show it to *insert faction I dislike*” which is like bro whatever. it is just interesting to me bc theres a lot going on in her chapters.

spoilers for the latest dungeon meshi ep but oh my GODDD i love marcille my pobrecita.. i think ryoko kui wrote sexism's effects on marcille really well, i think it's neat how she's a silly little guy and other people kind of underestimate her and it seems she is often down on herself about her failures or, "burdening" others in a way that feels very authentic to how it feels to be a woman and have that extra pressure of perfection to dispell suspicions of your inferiority. it's just very much the feeling i gather from it which makes marcille so relatable. and then to put another layer on it when it came out that she did black magic, she's literally A Bad Ass she is LITERALLY a Badass which makes her doubt of herself even more starkly inappropriate, and in this new episode despite the Fact that she is A Bad Ass when everyone's being a BIG MEANIE to her she's like a sad puppy when people don't let her help with revivals and like idk if i missed something but she doesn't even push back against them saying they're going to turn her in in like, a threatening way, she is just... scared. which hurt me i just wanted everyone stop being so MEAN TO HERRR my POBRECITAAAA. MY TINY LITTLE BABYY

i also laughed a lot and freaked out catching up on the two latest episodes today. Something I see frequently is fans wanting characters like Elle Greenaway or Nathan Harris to return as unsubs in Criminal Minds, which. I'll be completely honest, I hate the idea for a lot of the suggested characters because it feels so undeniably tragic and hopeless that someone will inevitably become a killer, even if they don't want to become one. Yes, a lot of the unsubs have some kind of tragic backstory, but the thing is that they're still awful people (excluding very very few). I feel like having previous characters return as the unsub paints this picture that you're unable to break the cycle of violence or that you're destined to become a monster, which is just such a honestly tragic message, especially for a show that's already pretty dark.

I'm not opposed to characters reappearing, but I'd much prefer that if those characters appeared again that it'd be in the vein of them having undergone some kind of healing and growth and be able to find themselves some kind of peace and satisfaction in where they are in life. Let them reappear, but don't transform them into monsters but a symbol of the healing and growth available to survivors and the other characters.
