Pokemon Insurgence AU: The beginning of the run

Ayup, coming with another update for the AU!

So, last time we left off immediately after picking our Starter, a Delta Bulbasaur that I named Antonia. Pog. Now we get into the story of the game.

So, our rival is this kid, Damian, who is the last kid from his town to leave on his journey. He only gets a Pokemon because this important dude, the Augur, who is comparable to the Champion in the official games, is visiting the town, and Damian must get him a gift from a nearby cave. He argued with his family in the Town Hall to get to do it.

In this AU, I imagine Wilbur gets Antonia because when he entered the Town Hall to get maybe some info on where he is, he overheard the argument and he kinda got dragged in by Damian. With Antonia by his side, Wilbur headed after Damian into the Shade Forest to keep an eye on him because the kid could hurt himself.

I know it’s not a perfect explanation but it works for now, especially since i am writing this at 2 AM, and we could flesh it out later lol. Anyway! What happened afterwards is under the cut.

First, I forgot to mention this but in Insurgence, Pokemon follow you around just like in Heart Gold and Soul Silver. That means we will see our party members in the overworld and of course I’ll share those screenshots. Here’s Antonia in the overworld:

Anyway, the first wild Pokemon encounter we had was a male Nidoran that was successfully caught. He was named Freddie.

Now, remember how in my previous post I was all like this?

Well... I was battling trainers in the forest, I sent out Antonia to take care of a Starly because Freddie was a under her level, and then Starly used Quick Attack:

I almost pissed myself and the discord server I was liveblogging kinda the run in also had a heart attack with me because we love Antonia to bits. She survived though, but in came a lot of close call for all of the team so far. Then she got poisoned by another trainer’s Roselia, but she survived.

So... I may have challenged the gods of Nuzlocke runs. Oh dear.

Anyway, I got into the Cave and another encounter... It was a Diglett!

So funny thing I have the plan to name the Pokemon after theatre references, anything from characters from plays (Freddie is named after George III because Hamilton for example), playwrights (Antonia is named after Chekhov) but at Diglett, because of the fact that she is a mole and we had so many close encounters so far, I decided to name her Oreli, so she may survive further by defying fate, like her namesake defied 100bur lmao.

The discord server and I then proceeded to piss ourselves again while leveling up because again my team was brought into the red zone. Oreli was brought o one HP because of poison, but she survived!

And then we finally reached Damian. He didn’t find the gift but when we get there we get to eavesdrop on a convenientTM conversation between the baddies: cultists! The dudes were talking about how they want to kill the Augur and how they sent assassins to kill him.

Anyway hearing this Damian is urging u to go back to warn the Augur. My dude Wilbur basically gets involved in this story purely because he’s the adult in this situation.

But yeah the next thing I did was grind to level 13 my party and I stopped playing there. I know the story and i put limits on how far i can level up, based on the game’s wiki. It may seem a pretty high level but the game is pretty difficult so leveling up is important. Anyway I stocked up on potions and I am hoping for the best.

I love how so far Wilbur’s party consists of:

When you were a kid...

Were you happy or sad when you found out your babysitter was coming? I didn’t have a babysitter. My grandparents took care of me and my siblings and cousins when we were growing up; and if they were both busy I was usually the one expected to care for everyone. Which was okay with me, since I was the most ~motherly~ one in our little group anyway.

Did you have a boyfriend in kindergarten? I studied in an all-girls school from kinder to high school. Outside of school, also no boyfriends. The boys at my neighborhood were super rowdy and hated girls, so I didn’t like hanging out with them.

Did you ever play hopscotch at school? For sure. I was a little mischievous - I would steal a bunch of chalk from the classroom so I can doodle a hopscotch court on school grounds for me and my friends to play on. I definitely wasn’t the most goody-two-shoes kid in the beginning, lol.

Did you refuse to eat your vegetables? Yeah, hated them. We have this local brand of instant noodles that have pieces of carrot in it, and I remember grouping all the tiny carrot bits at the edge of my plate. I didn’t learn to feed myself until I was around 8 or 9 though, so prior to that my elders would just include vegetables in all my meals and I’d have no choice.

What did you usually dress up as on Halloween? Some basic costume like a witch or pirate. My mom wasn’t super into Halloween and would just get us costume packs from the toy store. I wanna be the complete opposite for my kids.

What was your favorite television show? As a much younger kid I was into Hi-5. When I got a bit older I liked Pokemon, SpongeBob, The Fairly OddParents, My Life as a Teenage Robot, etc. Then when I got slightly older I started watching the real-life shows too, so like That’s So Raven, Suite Life, Drake and Josh, Zoey 101, Hannah Montana. Did you have D.E.A.R. time in school? (Drop Everything and Read) Yes, a few times each year. When I was still a bookworm it had been one of my favorite segments in school because I got to see other kids reading, which was my favorite hobby then. But by the time I was in high school and stopped reading, I remember always struggling to find a book to bring because I didn’t read anything anymore D: If I remember correctly, I think Athenna lent me most of the books I brought for DEAR time since at the time she was into John Green and YA in general. Did you ever read the 'Magic Treehouse' series? No. I googled it to see the cover, and I know as a kid it wouldn’t have interested me enough to pull it out of its shelf. How about the 'Bailey School Kids' series? Nope. Kids my age were into the Geronimo Stilton and Mr Men/Little Miss series. Do you remember the first movie you ever saw in theaters? Yes, it was a Stuart Little movie when I was maybe 3 or 4. I’m guessing it’s Stuart Little 2, because Google says it came out in 2002 and I was 4 years old then, so it checks out. Who was your best friend in elementary school? Angela was my best friend in some grades, but you know how kids are...once they vibe with someone else, they’ll hang out with them 24/7. Angela was a way more sociable kid so she got close with everyone, while I remained terrible at making friends. If she wasn’t my best friend at the time, I had no one. Did they continue to be your best friend in middle school? We don’t have middle school but I’ll guess that this is like Grade 6 and 7 for us? Anyway, no. ~Middle school~ was worse for me because this was when cliques started to form and material trends became the basis for being visible, e.g. owning a Blackberry, wearing Nike Roshes, getting side bangs lol, etc. I had none of those, so I was left behind both in terms of visibility and having friends. I only had a best friend again by the time I entered Grade 7, in which time I met Gabie and the ball started rolling from there. Did you ever watch 'The Land Before Time' movies? No, I didn’t. Did you ever watch the show 'Arthur'? I don’t think it aired here, so no. I did read Arthur books though; they were one of my favorites. Did the tooth fairy give you a lot of money? I honestly thought the tooth fairy was real. I never told my parents whenever a tooth would come out because I thought it was none of their business. That said, they just genuinely never knew to put money under my pillow because my dumbass never told them hahaha. I’ll never forget how crestfallen I was when I woke up to no money though. How often did you visit your nearest grandparents? I lived with them until I was 10. I only visited my other set of grandparents whenever my dad would come home from abroad, so I didn’t and haven’t ended up being close to them. Did you ever play with 'Little People' toys? What was your favorite sport to play? What is it now? Track, but then it shifted to table tennis when I joined the table tennis club initially out of peer pressure. What foods did you not like then that you do like now? Chicken curry, definitely. Were you into American Girl dolls? No. What was your first pet and what did you name it? It was a goldfish but I don’t remember whether I named it Goldie or Fishy, lol. Did you ever read the 'Junie B. Jones' books? No. What did you want to be when you were a kid? All the things I wante to be were astronaut, firefighter, veterinarian, and writer. What was your first word? Your first sentence? (If you remember) My parents didn’t keep track of either...I definitely would with my own kids. Have you moved into a new house since you were a kid? Yes, several times. When I was an infant we briefly lived with my dad’s parents in Manila. My mom couldn’t take the poverty and pollution there so we moved to a city in Rizal, where my mom’s parents + some extended family live in a duplex. At one point we switched houses in that duplex, and the unit that we switched to was where I lived for most of my childhood until we moved to our present house by the time I was 10. Were you friends with your neighbors? As a child, yeah. I was mostly friends with the girls though because like I said, the boys were super rowdy and sexist in that they never let us play basketball with them and stuff. Did you enjoy exploring your backyard? We didn’t have a backyard. Did you bake cookies with your grandparents? Sometimes! I would mix the dough and turn them into balls. :) What was your biggest fear when you were a kid? Flying cockroaches, because we had a lot of them in our old duplex unit. I also had an irrational fear of catching TV ads at night because I found them too loud and too vibrant. Who did you look up to most? My dad because I barely saw him as a kid. When he was lower down the ladder at his job he’d be gone six months and only stay with us for one. It wasn’t until I got to high school and he had a much higher position that he was away for only four months and home for one and a half.   Did you ever play the 'Reader Rabbit' computer games? I don’t think I’ve heard of that. Did you have a swing set in your backyard? No but we had a relative who had a playground at their place, and we’d go over there often. I spent a good amount of my childhood going as high as I can on their swings. How about a sandbox? Same relative had a sandbox too! It’s my favorite part of a playground and even during playtime in school I would usually be found alone in the sandbox. How old were you when you learned how to ride a bike? I’m 22 and still don’t know how... Did you ever spy on your neighbors through the window? Sometimes. Our houses were very close to each other and their open window is right across the part of our house that also has an open window, so sometimes we’ll fool around and peek. Were you a teacher's pet in kindergarten? No, but I gave my teachers a reason to remember me because I was the kid that peed their underwear everyday and had to go home in shorts. I’ve always been shy and even as a kid I was unable to ask permission to go to the washroom. Did you ever build a treehouse or a fort in your yard? No, ours was too small to build anything like that. My 7th birthday party was mostly a plain, theme-less birthday party, but so much of the decorations and giveaways were Bratz-themed because I was into Bratz at the time. I watched Powerpuff Girls but not Dexter’s Laboratory. Did you sleep with a blanket or stuffed animal? For the most part I preferred cuddling with a pillow. Did you ever have a night light? What was their name? I named them Katrina but I wasn’t imaginative/creative enough, so when seven minutes passed after I created her and she still wasn’t talking back to me, I gave it up haha. What kinds of games did you play with your friends during Recess? Dodgeball was a favorite. We had a big field just right outside our classroom so we’d all go out, pick our teams, and play for the whole 30 minutes. We’d do it for lunch, too. Fortunately our teachers never barred us from playing, because I guess they knew it counts as exercise for us too. Did you dream of being a princess or did you not really care about that? Not really. I wanted to be an astronaut more haha. The only princess-y things I did were to wear my blanket around my neck like a cape, and to wear a tiara on my 7th birthday party. Did you have a special name for your pacifier? What was it? No. Did you watch 'Blues Clues'? Yesssssss. I grew up with Steve and Joe. It was such a fun show to watch. What kind of car did your parents have? I don’t remember the make anymore but we had a black sedan until I was around five. It was mostly broken-down and had no aircon, but it was my dad’s first car so it was his absolute baby and I never had the heart to complain about the car’s flaws to him. He eventually sold it and we had a blue Mitsubishi Lancer after. Did you ever flush anything down the toilet by mistake? I don’t remember ever doing that, thankfully lol. Were you afraid to sleep by yourself? No, I think I was excited to start doing it. Growing up in a cramped duplex, I shared one bedroom with my entire family until I was around 9; so when we moved to our own home, I was the first one to call dibs on a bedroom. What was your favorite subject in elementary school? Language, which is a class where we were just taught basic English grammar. I loved reading as a kid and got fluent in English early on, so I was always a top student in that subject. How often did you go to the park? We don’t have parks. I never actively ‘wanted’ it because I was already kinda forced to grow up early, what with all the issues happening at home and me having to shield my siblings and cousins from whatever screaming match was happening inside.

October Featured Fics: Week #3

With the release of the monthly News Bulletin, there were 12 fics added to the Featured Stories list for the month of October; including the winners of some of our monthly site-wide competitions, several stories from our FROGS Top Threes, Fics from current and past annual Common Room Awards, and two stories that were chosen by our Staff/Prefect Team to be featured as well. At the end of the month, we will also be featuring all 4 of HPFT’s house Common Room monthly story award-winners as well!! :D

Session 26!

While Odril spent the night with his family, Aim and the satyrs of the party went to camp outside of town, Pog and Gumm some distance from Aim and sleeping in the snow together now that Gumm could also withstand the cold, and Cass and Shiver went to sleep at the inn, The Lydian Arms. Morning comes around and Aim starts her day with hunting. She doesn’t do well, mistaking a rock for a seal. With Aggie’s help though, they find a rabbit and it’s warren and manage to snatch up 3 rabbits. Pog and Gumm have a snowball fight with eachother meanwhile, eventually stopping when Pog decides to look over that book he got ages ago from the library in Easthaven, discovering that the illusory script wore off revealing a *huge* number of spells. This must have been Dzaan’s spellbook, the wizard that was put to death. He goes over it with Gumm and they go absolutely BANANAS over it. Pog declares it his new baby.

Cass wakes up to Shiver missing again, a common thing that she’s become used to. She goes to gather the party, finding Aim and the satyrs first, only gathering those two as Aim leaves into town to find a job to earn some money. She finds a board, mostly full of lost pets and rewards being offered for them, going with a lost dire wolf named Corndog. She eventually finds him digging outside the city nearby into the wall of a cliff a few feet taller than she is and casts Speak with Animals, discovering he didn’t realize he was missing long enough to cause worry to his owner. Aim asks why she’s digging at it and he informs her he thought it smelled strange, and so she, along with Aggie, decide to help him dig, eventually revealing a hole that is very clearly man-made. Having a bad experience with this, she covers it back up then reunited Corndog the dire wolf with his owner, Strongbear, a young Goliath man, who rewards her very generously.

Meanwhile, Odril spent time with his wife and daughter, huddled up by the fire, eating food, and eventually took Piper out fishing to teach her how to catch and clean them out better, and she learned quite quickly!

Everyone finally meets outside the tavern and immediately start a snowball fight with eachother. Aim starts to head inside, but then there is barking. A dog with a broken harness trailing behind it comes up, very friendly, but also barking and whimpering, clearly trying to get the party’s attention as it jumps up on each one of them. Aim casts Speak with Animals once more, the dog speaking out “Help! Garrett needs help! Find home! Tell Keegan!”

The party follows the dog to a home, the door opening and letting it inside. He asks them what happened and Aim informs him about what the dog told him. They discover this man is Keegan, and the dog, named Boy, was his husband Garrett’s dog. He invites them inside and sits them down for warm cider. He seems very worried.

Backstory

Lady Pudding Cake from the one and only Cake family of the Land of Sweets. A noble name that faithfully served the ruling family of the land. Yet now that name seems to matter little to the people anymore, the noble family lost their wealth and standing. As a teenager, Pudding resorted to stealing in hopes that she could provide for her family. However, once discovered her family claimed one more embarrassment like that would risk her being disowned.

She was sent off to a well known guild in hopes a craft master or scholar would be willing to train her as a pupil. The guild master himself took her in as his apprentice. The former noble didn’t expect him to be as harsh on her as he was nor to actually make her do manual work. Yet he did, training her in the craft of weaponry and even how to use them. Stating that if a trusty smith to warriors is one that know what it takes to be both.

Over the years, she formed a strong admiration to the man thinking of him as her own father in a sense. She spent all of her years giving her earnings to her family. However, despite her efforts her parents disappeared completely once she became a young woman; sending her younger sister, Carrot with a letter explaining their leave. After that day, she loathed her parents. She did all of this for their sake yet they have the nerve to simply take her earnings and leave, abandoning Carrot at that as well.

As time went by her master eventually gave her privilege of running his shop and by extension oversee the guild when his age begun to get to him. Pudding accepted the offer and now in recent months became the head for the guild, taking in her younger sister as her own apprentice. This will now be her legacy to uphold.

Recently, Prince Chocolate gave her another opportunity to aid him in the search of his sister, Princess Strawberry whom was missing for years. She heard of the news as a teenager, but figured she not a “true” noblewoman anymore and her family had no reason to be concern at the time. Still, he seemed so desperate to find her and ask for her help. She remember the memories of playing with him and his siblings as a child, but now she had her guild to see after and all of the people that need her to stay there.

She stated if he could find a way to aid her in restoring the Cake Family’s status and agreed that she did not have to constantly be at his side, she’ll be his retainer. Just like she would have if she never lost her previous status as a noblewoman.

Appearance

A cute, very short though curvaceous young woman with light brown skin. She have rabbit like features with long, floppy ears and a small, poofy tail. Have very fluffy, curly and wavy light pink hair that is usually styled in twin tales or tight ringlets. Have very large, dark eyes with long eyelashes that would remind one of a rabbit. Usually seen wearing bright or pastel colored makeup.

Personality

She’s quick to react in the moment, one that is fast to make decisions then taking action. Though her instinctive thinking can lead her to being rash , sometimes not really thinking things through. In addition, gets bored easily and impatient so she can be quite impulsive.

Outspoken and straightforward, to the point of being insensitive and overly blunt. A lot times shows little to no concern of how others think of her actions or words, but can be considerate more than expected. Does not seem to be initially malicious though.

The type to take charge and is comfortable when she have control of some kind. Seems self assured and confident, if not too much at times. However, she seems to grow more insecure when she have to depend on others or shown a weaker side of herself. Despite her forward attitude, have a hard time being honest about her feelings at certain times.

Abilities

Like all beastman she can shapeshift into a more humanoid-animal form and completely animal like form. She resemblances a rabbit as the rest of the family does.

Have enhanced stamina, strength, and reflexes; her legs are her strongest points can dish out kicks and jumps of extraordinary strength to the point of crushing earth around her with mere landings with enough force.

Can use Sugar Magic and is surprisingly efficient at using it as a weapon than one can expect from the magic type. Tends to form a weapon of a whip or a parasol to fight with, her whip looks like liquorice and her parasol is decorated like a cake pop.

Is skill in illusion magic as well and uses this to make traps or conceal herself if needed. Also skilled in healing magic as well.

Interests and Hobbies

Enjoys going shopping to buy accessories and fashion, is very particular about her fashion sense and quality of what she gets.

Is good at cooking and baking, might make dishes for those she likes at times. Enjoy sweets a lot and as a Sugar Beastman can conjure them at whims. She loves fruit and vegetables as well.

Likes collecting things she deems as cute such as dolls, stuffed toys, or little trinkets.

Is a skilled fighter and trains her frequently, her fighting form without weapons looks kickboxing.

Relationships

Carrot Cake (younger sister, 15) - Her younger sister that acts as her assistant as well. Pudding is protective and doting her little sister, with her sister seems to only trust her her. Wishes she wasn’t so clingy, but understand why she is as well.

Daffodil (younger cousin, 18) - Her younger cousin that lives in a different land. Respect and thinks fondly of her, despite distance the two use to write letters to each other. However, recently she haven’t heard from her and wonders why.

Chocolate Delight (prince of nation and serves, 21) - Both of them use to play with each other as children. However, after her family fell from grace the two rarely seen each other until recently after he sought her out to become his retainer. Views him as a respectful friend, but a tight ass as well.

Pog (former nobleman, 22) - She use to play him as a child and there was even some talks of engagement between the families. When discovered he was disowned and is a merchant, she offered to have him work for her former master but he reclined. Both seem to still be on friendly terms despite barely seeing the other now.
