Just had an idea that developed XD: How OP could we make Desmond without giving him godlike powers thanks to the Grand Temple device?

My suggestion? Give him Spidermans powers. Climbing walls, spider sense, super senses, healing factor etc. You could also add stuff that Spiderman wouldn't use, due to his "No killing" rule, like powerful venom and fangs and those arm pincers that Spiderman apperantly had in the comics for a while.

He would be the perfect Assassin. XD

We could also easily set it up too. Maybe Hydra or Oscorp are looking to make a super soldier/recreate Spiderman and this random man shows up without any ID? Perfect test subject! It would also be hard to escape as they would account for super powers with the security, so Desmond ends up rescued by the Avengers+Spiderman.

Just an idea i had and i'm curious to how you would make him OP. ^^

So I’ve been reading a lot of manwha for years now and it definitely shaped my answer to how we can make Desmond OP.

Information.

Whether this means what Desmond would know about what��s going to happen because this is a time travel/regression/transmigration setup or if this is a case of the Apple giving him the information he needs, Desmond could use that information to his advantage, both to amass large amount of money or to do what he wants to do.

If we combine my idea of an OP power and your idea of giving him OP Spiderman power, the next step is obvious.

Desmond is a comic book nerd who got isekai (or transmigrated) into a Spiderman world.

The problem is… which Spiderman world is this???

Should he be looking for Peter Parker?

How was he so sure that this world’s Spiderman is Peter Parker?

And it is during his ‘hunt’ for Spiderman (because at the very least, he believes Spiderman might listen to him) that he gets abducted by Hydra/Oscorp/whichever evil corporation you wanna use.

His blood was meant to be used to test for variations of the super soldier serum but Desmond isn’t a damsel in distress and he tries to escape.

During the escape, he gets into an accident (whether he gets bit by one of the plot spiders or maybe he’s nicked somewhere and the Spiderman serum prototype gets into an open wound) during his escape and starts to exhibit the same powers of Spiderman.

And that is the least of his worries because he is an Assassin through and through so he did what any Assassin would do when they’re abducted by an obviously evil corporation.

Kill everyone in the facility while finding out names of other targets to take them out in the future.

And…

Well…

Massacring an entire facility isn’t really a good resume for the superheroes in this world.

Presenting the one hell of a Butler, Sebastian Michaels or A.K.A "The Black Demon" (Yeah very original i know/s but jnsjss it took me a while to design this, so I don't have the actual brainpower for this lmao.)

So, his design was def inspired by idol Sebastian, so I have him the leather black heel boots (which work as weapons)

He can use his top hat and throw it as It's hard enough to hell cut through something. His cane has a point so he can use it.

The half mask was just to give him some spark, as I wanted to keep it interesting but not rely much on the butler side. Although he does use utensils to fight.

He's not covering his face because...I meant Sebastian would want whoever he beats to remember his smug face, so-

Hi! Wanted to let you know that I really love your take on Nano and the evolution of it through time. I also quit the whole thing for the same reasons around 2016 after two years. I was curious: what are your expectations for a healthy writing community? I've seen that a lot of people want different things and conflict happen because nobody really talks about it. The most people are willing to say is the obvious don't be an asshole (although obviously that doesn't stop some), but I rarely see people say things like "I don't want to share my writing but I do want to share the efforts of it" or "I want to talk about every details of my stories and brainstorm with others" and things like that. So what are your thoughts on it? P.S. I started following you and then I found out you're also into MDZS XD Love that!

When I think of a healthy writing community, I think about two 12-year-olds sharing their grand story ideas and their original characters that are master-level wizards at age 19 or famous detectives at 15 and the two 12-year-olds gush over each other's ideas and draw their characters and help each other come up with names and ideas and titles.

I think writing communities really thrive when people are encouraged to share their ideas and can get a positive response. There's times to critique works and times to just hype people up--and I think people really do not know the difference.

I've noticed a few, consistent issues:

Competition: I think some writers get competitive over how fast they write, how much, how often, etc. And I've been in some Discord servers when a person is suddenly getting praise or recognition, and you can tell there's tension. Suddenly people stop talking and log off. There's a lot of battle of the egos.

Different skill levels in one space: this is a big issue, though it's not anyone's fault. I've noticed that some writers in some servers are well-experienced with great writing and then other writers are beginners. It's not a big deal, really, but it does hamper feedback. Beginner writers get discouraged and overwhelmed when well-experienced writers offer more detailed critiques. And likewise, experienced writers probably aren't getting super in-depth critiques they need. Not to say people are unsupportive, but it's just not the most productive set up!

Selfishness: I'm not sure if that's the best way to phrase it, but I've noticed that often people will share their writing in servers but not interact with other's writings.

These are pretty limited to Discord which imo isn't a productive space for large writing groups anyway. But unfortunately when a lot of people move to Discord, it's hard to find a sense of community on tumblr or other sites.

But I can't just bitch and not offer suggestions so:

Keep online communities alive. We can't limit ourselves to Discord servers. Post your writing. Engage with other blogs. Reblog. Reply. Send in asks. If you're reading something someone wrote, let them know. Say something in the tags or send in an ask.

Be a hype man: We should encourage each other to continue writing--not everyone is looking for critiques all the time

Know your place: I've seen way too many people shit on ideas for events or special blogs. If you see something that you don't like, just leave it be. If you're not interested in something, it's not for you. Let the micro-communities do their thing and find their people. You do not need to be involved in every facet of the general writing community.

Post. Your. Writing. Or post stuff about your writing. It's hard to find other writers when they don't share! I can't hype up your story if I don't know about it!

I often see a lot of suggestions get vague. Like you said--"Don't be an asshole." Okay. Great. But what does that mean? And how does it get enforced in moderated communities like servers? What if the mods of the servers are assholes?

Or I see "support each other!" Okay, but we need an actual game plan for getting early-2010s level of community back. We need to bring back ask memes and character memes and ask culture. Because people back then weren't just twiddling their thumbs waiting for an interaction, there was effort put into all of it. People were designing games and events and taking time to engage with each other.

I don't think people understand that healthy communities need to be nurtured and inclusive. And this is definitely glamorizing the internet of 10-15 years ago. There's always been bullying and toxic people. But I think we could definitely build on what used to be and make something that's mature and welcoming to everyone.

I'm hoping with NaNo on their steady decline through the past couple of years really encourages people to rekindle other online communities. I think a lot of people have been nostalgic over the past few days, and a lot of people have taken the initiative to coordinate their own events. It's starting to bring back some of the unconditional support that used to exist.

Anyways my OTP,,,, is,,, NAKAMASHIP!!!! There's nothing more that I love than the strawhat crew ; - ; I have literally shed tears over all of my strawhats and I love that they all love eachother deeply... On my one piece reread- I made sure to pay extra attention to all the character interactions and jokes. And can I just say, I see so many people talk about how the strawhats barely interact post time skip, or that some characters are basically strangers to each other (I saw someone say this about Franky and Zoro), but THEY DO TALK!!! THEY HAVE SO MANY FUN INTERACTIONS!!!

Oda is SO good at balancing these funny little character moments between important story beats >:O I think Zou in particular had a bunch of nakamaship moments that I really loved. One of my favourite lesser loved dynamics in the crew is usopp and robin (which you would know if you looked at my art of them XD) because they have a bunch of funny bits between them :3

My romantic OTP of all time is ZOLU THOUGH. And I tried really hard to not ship it immediately when i first started reading one piece, because I do this kind of thing alot when I get into media where I latch onto the protag and the guy close to the protag and ship em together??? Like I was so obsessed with JohnDave that DaveKat just hurt me,,, And I liked bakudeku so much that I couldn't get into kiribaku... AND I DIDNT WANT THE TREND TO CONTINUE TO ONE PIECE T - T And it SOMEWHAT did, but it also somewhat didnt. When I first heard Zosan was the most popular ship, like leagues above zolu, I was in physical pain,,, But REMEMBER; nakamaship is my first otp, so I still really enjoyed the idea of zoro and sanji because I enjoy the dynamics between ALL of my strawhats >:(!!!

I'm super duper obsessed with one piece and it sucks that there's all this great fanfiction out there that is effectively barred against me because there's a ship that I don't like >:/ So what I did to become more accepting of Zosan is,,, I drew them making out a ton XD If you look at my early one piece doodle piles, you'll see one of them with a couple of zosan things HAHAHA. Honestly it vaguely worked, but I'm super picky about the zosan fics I read, cause I feel like people can wildly mischaracterize zoro pretty easily.

Anyways, I think you said in a comment that Vic has trauma from Primal stabbing him in the back (that was obvious but im still gonna say it). How does he deal with this? Does he have nightmares? Does Dune or the guards suspect anything?

Does anyone else, like Primal, Agent, Hazard, Ballista, RGBY, Purple etc. also have trauma? If so, how do they deal with it, and do they also have nightmares?

I think somewhere in Arc 2, when Chosen, Second and Dark meet Primal and Ballista, Primal says she was going to visit Vic. How did this go?

[ I'll include a little snippet for Arc Two at the end of this ask, in relation to Vic's trauma and a Primal visitation. ]

Vic does indeed have nightmares, I will say that much. But I shouldn't try and explain this too in-depth, as I will be elaborating on the super fine specifics of Vic's nightmares and how Dune would react to it and such, in the storyline and in the plot itself when it comes to that point in time.

Dune will have some involvement, yes. The guards too, some of them, but to a lesser degree. [in only one or two different scenes.] Dune, on the other hand, has multiple encounters with Vic in which the grey hollowhead is much closer to a breakdown than he would otherwise be.

:) Ah, Purple. Ehehe. EHEHEHHEHE. I shouldn't say too much about that. Let's just say, Purple's lore is a little all over the place, and even I am still trying to sift it out into chronological order. Anything I could say that comes to mind right now is a huge spoiler so, I can't say too much aside from I can't say too much.

Primal is actually trauma-free for the most part, and by that I mean, she obviously regrets nearly killing Vic, and it sticks [*cough!*] with her for a long time... but the most actual reaction she endured was nearly puking just afterward of the Stabby Scene, which was covered already in Arc One's climax.

Hm. Yeah.

Definitely trauma-free. [compared to the others, ehehe]

Agent doesn't have nightmares, neither does Hazard, and both are generally content and happy with their current positions.

Agent is running Rocket, finding out he's really good at it. Hazard is assisting trainees for the Rocket Hero program, and occasionally helping out of the field where the public eye is abundant.

But Agent doesn't like to remember the day he got his life-altering injury. It's not a day he remembers as a day of celebrating, even if he was incredibly heroic. Hazard has been a great help, assisting Agent so he can see himself in a more positive light than he would think independently... but it can be a struggle on some bad days where everything Agent does seems to go utterly wrong. And especially now, being in an important position and having more responsibility that could be screwed up.

Not me giving Agent some occasional self-loathing issues because I want to help others work through it. U v U Also good angst.

Ballista is the one who is actually trauma-free. He just a happy lil dude. XD Worst he's got is Primal stole his snacks. He does help Primal through her mild outbursts though. The days where all she can do is rant to the air and lay her head on the table and spill every regret into the empty air where Ballista stands as comfortingly as he can.

Vic's head jerked instantly behind him and he met her eyes with a speed that rivaled her quickening heartbeat at the anxiousness of what she planned to do.

“Primal,” Vic breathed out slowly, his shoulders relaxing greatly and his features smoothing out into a calm and more peaceful outward appearance. 

Primal did notice his eyes still held just the faintest traces of wariness, but she didn't bring attention to it. 

She had stabbed him, after all. It made sense Vic couldn't seem to help automatically being aware and alert as a result.

I finished another animatic! This is the third one I've finished properly and I spent a good amount of time finishing it compared to the previous two. At this point, I just consider animatic making as a way for me to get out of my comfort zone while doing something I actually enjoy.

I talk more about 2ha book 2 and the animatic-making process below (because making a thorough essay gushing about it in my cousin's dms isn't enough)

Spoilers for 2ha below.

Why the song?

This one is based off of a random thought where I went "Oh this song fits Chu Wanning pretty well, especially in book 2" and after a good bit of listening to the lyrics, I found that the first verse reflected Mo Ran's inner turmoil too. And I thought why not both? and it just unfolded there.

The first thing I thought of ended up being the sequence where Mo Ran and Chu Wanning are both walking together at the same time at the third verse. And it leands to both of them not wanting to admit but they're okay with that and they'll stay by each other's side even if they don't tell each other the truth.

Doing this sequence was hard and annoying because I had to animate Wanning and Mo Ran individually and time both at different times to the same song. This was also where I realized that Mo Ran has a calm outward demeanor contrary to my initial impression of him.

Mo Ran and Past Life Relationship Trauma

If you look at the very rough storyboard above, I had Mo Ran run towards the screen in panic on his side (left). But that's not how it turned out in the end. Mo Ran is more calm about it compared to Wanning who, inwardly, is panicking throughout most of book 2.

He realized he's in love but is hesitant to actually pursue it because his last relationship with Wanning in his past life doesn't really consider Wanning's say in it. Not to mention it turned out really really well last time huh...

And you say "oh but Mo Ran did confess" and he did, after he was sure that Wanning held feelings for him after he saw that he kept the brocade bag with their hair. And even then, this trauma from his past still manifested with how he approached their relationship.

There's this small passage in where Wanning describes it:

And this conflict is explored more with Mo Ran's section. The animatic actually starts with Mo Ran realizing that he loves Wanning, but instead of being panic-y about it he accepts it and relishes in it and his reaction overall is calmer. He kinda confesses to him in a vague way then.

And I kind of want to go a bit into the part where he looks at Chu Wanning drumming and his face transitions to a memory of him in Mo Ran's past life's memories before Mo Ran rips it apart and throws it to the side coz that one originally was an iffy frame I didn't like.

And by didn't like, I mean it was really sus and it made the animatic unwatchable for me so I had to change it to that. And it turned out for the better coz symbolism! It's him not really liking how that relationship went.

Chu Wanning and Running Away From What's In Front of You

So, contrary to how Mo Ran's section went, I found making Wanning's section more fun because I love drawing him having a tsundere expression, I live for Tsundere Wanning. Like, I know it's super OOC because the way he acts is that there's this really small ripple of emotion that appears on the corner of his eyes and ears, basically he's also pretty good at acting aloof.

How do I start with his sequence... Well, it transitions from Mo Ran helping Shi Mei carry some boxes to Wanning's POV (which I'm very proud of btw). This is kind of why I also found Mo Ran's sequence hard to do because how I built the animatic was:

"Got, got, got it bad" > dual sequence > Wanning's sequence > Mo Ran's sequence.

(Ugh, small mention of how annoying I found the Mo Ran seeing Shi Mei sequence to do because I had to keep in mind the character positions.)

Anyways, while Mo Ran's sequence was pretty much (not-exactly-running-away per se but) him walking through reminiscing memories of his past with Wanning, Wanning's sequence was pretty much him running away from the kinda-obvious signs that Mo Ran likes him.

Because, as far as Wanning knows, Mo Ran likes Shi Mei and he also has to keep in mind his position and image. Now, add to that the weird dreams from Chu-fei's soul fragments which lead up to Book 2 being the blueball fest that it is, his sequence ends up being very chaotic.

We see him running all over the place: exit to the right, enter left to then exit to the bottom of the screen, left then turn around, bottom to up, then backing away from a kneeling Mo Ran (which I totally mean to reference the umbrella scene where Mo Ran practically kneels before him saying he wants to hold the umbrella for him), only to lead from him falling and being caught by Mo Ran.

The catching scene, by the way, was annoying to do because it's the same thing but in four different perspectives.

And it's like... the first thing I did too. (I just redrew the characters at the final pass).

But yeah, Wanning runs away from what's in front of him because he's so insecure with himself and it only took Mo Ran cornering him in a situation he can't run away from before confessing and it's glorious.

Wanning, honey, you got to love yourself more.

Still, can't I just talk about how much I love the frames where he's like somewhat honest with his expressions.

Like I live for that smile.

Oh! Speaking of, that frame appears at a sequence I added after noticing the detail in my reread (like proper reread coz I'm rereading 2HA but physical edition).

Ranwan Forehead Poke

Did you know that there are a total of 7 forehead pokes that happened between Ranwan throughout the whole book?

(At least the ones I managed to search by searching the word "forehead")

Aside from the obvious ones like with Wanning's first death and he used the forehead poke to transfer part of his soul to Mo Ran and Wanning poking Mo Ran's forehead to put a protection charm on him, there are some minor gestures of this scattered all throughout the book.

Most of them are in book 1 and 2, but there's one in book 3 between Taxian-jun and Chu-Fei and (not even a ranwan one but I want to mention) one between Taxian-jun and a very drunk MengMeng-er.

So, anyways, ever since I noticed that small gesture, I ended up adding it at the final sequence of the animatic. Originally, I planned it to be Wanning showing an embarrassed face at Mo Ran and turning away. (The walking away sequence was as originally planned though.) In the final product, it plays out like: Wanning seeing Mo Ran glum, with something in his mind, smiling and poking his forehead as a gesture saying don't worry, and Mo Ran being like blushing and following him as they leave off screen.

Anyways, I live for Ranwan forehead poke.

Post-Processing Moment

I think that's most of what I wanted to talk about in this animatic-making adventure.

Just some random moments that happened while I was polishing this.

So I fucking saved over the file that had Mo Ran's section. I was trying to make a credits sequence and ended up auto-piloting saving over it so no more that. At least there's still the frames and the rough sketch but yeah.

I also found that I can't stop getting the urge to color some of the frames and I think that's a good sign. Like, the amount of colored frames there isn't as much as what As The World Caves In had (glorious final sequence btw, I love rewatching that section) but I wanted to color more even when I think it's already done.

Like, I wanted to color the forehead poke section and the figments of the past in Mo Ran's section, and even the introduction section, oh and add tsundere Wanning to it too. I'll do it someday. More ranwan wallpapers for me :D

Oh I kinda realized by then too that my coloring style has become pretty streamlined.

Activity on my first listen: cutting the Kolkwitzia amabilis in my garden.

This is (perhaps to no surprise) one of my favorite episodes. I have absolutely no understanding of poetry, but the flow of the poem-statement just sounds cool! Also I love amusement parks, yay, even if we don’t really hear much about it. And of couuurse, it's the birth of "Ceaseless Watcher, turn your gaze upon" and so on and so forth. I'm not much for revenge, but I'm very much one for standing up to those who bullied you. And in this instance it still was more of an emotional act than planned.

JON: "But the curve doesn’t work quite right, and if you stayed in the same spot and just – hopped on a horse and let it carry you ‘round, it – might be… days before you passed the same spot, or, uh…" Ok seriously, as a horse person and also someone who enjoys merry-go-rounds that sounds wonderful to me! xD

MARTIN: "Hm. (slowly) You think we could – get – that experience just – walking along the edge? Because, uh – I really don’t like the look of those riders." JON: "Would you believe me if I said they were the victims?" Another one of these, where we get a very vague indication that things are probably looking not as we initially thought? Apparently they look like they could be the tormentors in this domain. But Jon lets us know, that this is very much part of them being the victims.

MARTIN: "Fine by me. (laugh) Never really liked merry-go-rounds anyway." JON: "No? You – gone on any recently?" MARTIN: "What? No. No, I don’t think so. Not since I was a kid." JON: (heh) "I actually, uh… There’s one at London Zoo – uh, was one at London Zoo. Big old thing. Went quite fast, actually. Su-Surprisingly thrilling." [AS HE SAYS THIS, WE HEAR MARTIN TRYING TO CONTAIN HIS MIRTH. AS SOON AS THE ARCHIVIST FINISHES SPEAKING, HE LETS OUT A LARGE BURST OF LAUGHTER.] I took a look at a few videos of the carousel at London Zoo. Yeah, it looks like it has a decent speed. The animals dont't look super appealing to me, I usually go for a bit higher quality asthetics. My last carousel ride was in September last year. Also Martin's laugh is great xD

Also I don't think it's necessary to be in a weird place to enjoy a merry-go-round as an adult? (Or... am I just permanently in a weird place?) Don't hide yourself because your boyfriend can't understand a bit of childish fun, Jon! Martin's reaction might be a side effect of the horrible behavior of his mum and him having to grow up very quickly. Bit of wisdom from my mum: She always said, I should keep my childlike nature as often and as long as I could because there will be enough situations which require me to act like a grown-up.

Uhhh... Some of the passages are super long and and there is not a single pause... Did Jonny ever take a breath in there and it was edited out or was this really in one go?

"You tire of the chase of course, the fire and all-relentless pace of competition reaching for a name, identity, and face that has long since worn through all reserves of hard, enduring vigor in you. Yet still you only stay a self while willing on your aching legs that feel like breaking just to keep you forward of the frenzied fray of hazy clawed who are yous. So run." So here before the "Yet still you only..." there is cleary a breath and before "So run" also very subtle... How much of some of these passages are really read in one single breath??

"but the frozen face is still the same, the simple cast of equine terror, framed and caught in wood and plastic bulging eyes of fear." Mhm, that is something I'll never understand, why someone would chose to design carousel horses with jarring mouths... And their eyes always match their mouths, wide open and fearful. There are quite a lot of those out there...

Though I can appreciate certain rhetorical devices with a poetic tone. But full poems? Rarely, especially if I don't have context. (I love Arthur's poem in Malevolent Part 20 for example!)

In that entire scene after the statement and before Not!Sasha shows up Jon seems very stressed and annoyed. Probably hurrying to avoid her.

NOT!SASHA: "And what if I let you choose this time? Which one of you would I wear next? Martin looks very comfortable, positively roomy. Oh, wouldn’t you agree, Archivist?" Probably a bad idea to threaten to take Martin... Also, the holy trinity of indications that Martin is fat is now complete!

MARTIN: "Jon, what are you talking about?" JON: "She can’t touch us." [THE NOT!SASHA CONTINUES TO MAKE NOISES OF ANGER, GROWLING AND SNARLING AND HUFFING LIKE A BULL.] JON: "We’re so far beyond her now. She’s just like everything else here: ruled by the Eye. (slight laugh) And she hates it." In a world of the Eye no wonder they're somewhat more protected than others might be. Jon seems to enjoy the irony (Ha Eye-rony) of the monster who took the first of them now being so powerless against them and is even suffering.

JON: "Pathetic." [A CLINKING, SHUFFLING SORT OF SOUND; HE SHOULDERS HIS BAG.] JON: "Martin, let’s go." NOT!SASHA: "Not as pathetic as your little friend when I ate her life." [A DRAWN, DANGEROUS PAUSE.] [THE ARCHIVIST TAKES A STEP BACK TO FACE IT.] JON: (low, deadly) "What did you say?" Oh you immediately hear in Jon's tone that this was a grave mistake by the Not!Them! It is so good! The final straw, the thing that makes Jon snap.

I really like the sound of the smiting! This blipping out of existence! A friend of mine referred to it once as 60s Sci-Fi sound effect xD

MARTIN: (impressed) "Who-a-oa." Martin is absolutely not grasping the severity of what just happened. I mean yeah, it's not him who did it, that is of course a huge factor. But to be honest, my reaction also was the same as Martin's here^^'' More of a surprised "Holy shit!!" than a "oh, new set of very dark powers.."

This is partly for accountability and partly just to get all this out of my head! This last month or two have felt so hectic, getting used to a new work and sleep schedule and all. I'm still not quite there.

If you're curious about what I've been working on and what my plans are in terms of writing and art for the rest of the year, read on. :)

I will say, though, that if you want more of a specific AU or story, the way to get it is by asking questions and leaving comments! Asks and comments remind me about things I'm doing and get me excited about them again! I have these plans, but I also am very good at chasing inspiration to unknown (and sometimes unimportant) corners!

I've been feeling less motivated to work on LU stuff, but I still plan on at least finishing what I have open, so you can look forward to some of that!

Writing

Disability AU—one small mobility trio fic in the works. A few vague ideas for doing backstory fics.

Council (1931 vampire AU)—this is still the "backburner to backburner" fic, but I do have some fun ideas. I just have been distracted with other things! I think this AU is a lot of fun and I'd love to do more with it. We'll have to see.

The Marvelous Misadventures of Wind and His Merry Band of Maybe-Human Misfits—chapter 7 (out of 9 or so) is in progress. I have it all outlined out, and it's fun to work on, but I have (again) been distracted! This is, I hope, going to be my main December project. It'd be nice to finish before it turns 2 years old next summer. Oops.

I have several other WIPs that aren't very exciting and probably won't see daylight, but they're there if I feel like them

Coloring book—I'm part of the coloring book project! :) I have already finished 1/2 drawings, and they went so well, I'm considering doing more.

Shatterproof manga page—still on my radar! I'm doing the end scene from dazzling diamond danger, and my ambition keeps outgrowing my time.

Fairytale AU—man I've started this Vidow BatB fic literally five times. I have an almost-complete draft sitting at like... 20k?? iirc, but I kind of hate a lot of it. I also like a lot of it. It's a bit difficult for me to work on rewriting something in that situation. Anyway. Another December thing probably.

Fright Fight—I have ideas for every week, but am currently unsure if I want to draw or write for them. Most of my October will be focused on filling these prompts!

Vampire Lords AU—I have strange as severe is this my fate open right now, with a fair amount of material... it just needs to be edited a bit. I do want to keep working on that, I've just... well. Distraction. A common theme. XD I might be feeling another little bite fic coming on, too.

Fright Fight part 2—I have a few side things to do for this, like making graphics that I haven't quite finished yet. They shouldn't take long, I just gotta do em!

Non-Fandom

Stickers—I am in the process of drawing some stickers! Yay! These are for my work, but also just for me. I want some Halloween stickers. This is a backburner project.

Nanowrimo project—I need to spend some time figuring out a few things to really get going on my princess-verse. I'm going to be doing Nanolympics this year, so hopefully some of their preptober stuff will help!

Hearts Linked Together—my super-cool Linkverse. XD I love my dumb timeline, and all the characters, they're just filler drawings that I haven't had time to continue.

Secret Zelda project—I really really need to do this! I can't say much right now, but it involves a fair amount of work, both writing and art. I think I haven't gotten very far on it yet because I'm intimidated. Stop that.

Zine edits—I worked really really hard on an art piece for a LoZ zine coming up! This week is critique, and I anticipate a few edits later.

Facebook posts—a lady I know wants to commission pretty quote images to post on her Facebook. I need to reply to her text. And do them.

September

I primarily worked on the fic Blood-Sucker's Guide to High School. I also worked on and submitted one fic and one piece of art to two different zines, which I hope you'll see soon.

October

If you care, you may have noticed I'm not doing Whumptober this year! Part of this is because I'm a bit burned out from the above, and part of it is that the prompts just didn't seem very inspiring to me this year. Maybe that's just my mindset. I haven't been in a very whumpy mood.

I'm planning on filling weekly prompts for @fsfrightfight this month and maybe chipping away at some other fics, in addition to one more zine contribution. I'm also going to be planning for November and doing some scattered art work here and there.

November

NaNoWriMo! I considered skipping this... but I'm feeling really inspired and motivated to do it, especially with October as a break. I'm going to write some original work, and that will be the focus of my November. I'll likely get some other art done, too.

December

I hope to dedicate this month to finishing things up from this year! That means working on "backburner" projects.

Hello!! I saw your tags on one of my posts, I figured I'd send you an ask with my reply since I realized I had quite a lot to say XD

I definitely agree with the idea that Atsushi is connected to The Book somehow. 

Actually, you suggesting that Atsushi was ‘made by The Book’ is something I find particularly interesting. I personally have a theory that Sigma is The Book transformed into a human form, and what you said about Atsushi fits so incredibly well with the Sigma theory in my little gremlin brain.

(I saw in one of your posts you aren’t caught up with the manga, so I’ll keep this vague to avoid spoilers)

So far, Atsushi and Sigma have been shown to have very similar personalities. With all of the mysteries surrounding Sigma in the series, it wouldn’t surprise me to learn he and Atsushi may be more connected to one another than we have been led to believe thus far. 

So considering their seemingly important connection to each other, plus my thoughts regarding Sigma, your idea that Atsushi was made by, or is in some way a figment of The Book, sounds very plausible to me and the implications of it are driving me wild!!!

The idea that Atsushi himself has used The Book in the past, and was actually the one who created abilities (I saw you talk about this in one of your posts) is also very interesting to me!

I’d say as far as probability goes, Atsushi being the one to create abilities is not unlikely. I know the manga has mentioned abilities have been around for quite a long time (at least a few hundred years), but I’ve been rather skeptical myself about whether or not I believe that. 

To me, abilities feel a lot more ‘new’ in the bsd universe than the provided history wants us to believe. 

I personally think that if The Book is powerful enough to conjure up a floating casino, and implant eight years worth of memories of that casino into every person's mind, then it is also entirely possible that abilities have only been around for 10 or so years, and all info negating that is the result of 'false memories'. 

Atsushi being the one to write abilities into existence would make the most narrative sense, as he is the main character and should be at the centre of all of this if possible. It would also explain why his ability is considered to be so powerful. 

As for my thoughts on how Atsushi creating abilities would tie into him being the one to find The Book, I’d say it’s hard to come up with any substantial theories at this point, considering how little we know about The Book.

But something that could be interesting would be a reveal that either Atsushi himself, or his tiger, is actually a human/tiger embodiment of one of The Book’s pages. This reveal would explain why Atsushi’s tiger has regenerative abilities, as one of the properties of The Book itself is that it is unable to be destroyed by abilities. 

If this is true, and Atsushi’s tiger is a page from The Book, and is thus connected to The Book himself, then his finding of The Book could result from a natural, unconscious, yearning to rejoin the page he unknowingly harbours to the rest of The Book.

And, this would tie in nicely to my theory on Sigma being The Book, as Atsushi and him shared that moment of connection during the Sky Casino arc when Atsushi saved Sigma from falling.

Also, interesting thing there- We learn that Sigma used his ability on Atsushi right before he fell to disclose the location of the page to Atsushi. But we never actually see Sigma use his ability. So, what is he never used his ability at all? What if the unconscious part of Sigma that is The Book, connected in a sense to the unconscious part of Atsushi that is a page from The Book, and the information was passed between them through the connection they share via The Book? And not Sigma’s ability?

Overall your ideas on Atsushi and his ties to the creation of abilities are super interesting to me! And thank you for the kind words you left on my post, I'm glad you enjoyed my theory on Ango!! :)

I hope my thoughts here read as coherent, though I proofread this multiple times I wrote this rather late so apologies if I don't make sense!! Also sorry for the length, I have a tendency to ramble.

No need to apologize!! This is all super well thought out and I loved hearing your take on it!! Also thank you for keeping it vauge, I have since almost caught up to the manga now? I've read all the way through Chapter 99, which is the last chapter published in Volume 22, since I prefer to read the physical manga copies rather than the version published online

I never thought about how the tiger regenerates and the book can't be destroyed... I always thought it was interesting that Atsushi was able to heal fast because of his tiger abilities? Because as far as I'm aware, there's no correlation between healing and tigers? (Unlike say... Healing and snakes, for example, with snake oil being marketed as a fake cure all, or there being two snakes around the caduceus which is somehow associated with health, healing and Apollo even though it's Hermes's staff, although both of these correlations tend to be more white/European based correlations with mythology, and so I had assumed that maybe tigers were related to health or healing in Japanese culture or mythology and my euro-centric education hadn't included it)

Atsushi and his ability being created by the book makes a lot more sense to me if the book is the reason he has regenerative abilities rather than the tiger then, and I hadn't even thought of that before you mentioned it

I also think it would be super interesting if Sigma was the book? I do think that it's interesting how Sigma could be created from nothing, with no memories of the past, like if the book is all powerful then someone must have purposefully created him with no memories? And if so for what purpose? Why would creating a fully grown adult man with no backstory be useful to someone? Him being an actual human representation of the book would explain a lot and I think you make really good points there

Additionally, the lack of explanation about where special abilities come from has been on my mind since the very beginning of the manga amxnxkskk and as I mentioned in one of my posts before, it could be because I'm used to My Hero Academia, where they explain where quirks come from at the beginning of every episode, but the lack of explanation about their origin, and also the way that Atsushi just... Never knew about the fact that he had an ability makes me suspicious about abilities' origins

Also something that just occurred to me to further back up the idea that abilities were created recently is the fact that Atsushi has never once asked the members of the ADA how they realized they had abilities? If it was a common occurrence for people to not know they have abilities until something happens, like how Atsushi didn't know he had the weretiger ability until Dazai pointed it out, I would think that Atsushi would have asked the other members of the ADA what sparked their realization that they had abilities, the same way he starts asking them what they did before they joined the ADA

Granted, this could be something brought up in the light novels, and I just haven't read them, or from a Doylist perspective maybe it wasn't brought up because it wasn't relevant to the plot (whereas asking about previous occupations is relevant to the plot because it gives a reason to reveal that Dazai used to be in the Mafia kinda thing) but taking a Watsonian approach to why it wasn't included in the main manga at least, I think Atsushi knows that it's uncommon to realize you have an ability 18 years after you've had it

Which then begs the question to the reader... How do they just know they have an ability?

If abilities were created recently and merely implanted false memories of people having had them for a while, it would make sense that the characters have just "always known" they've had an ability because the book would have implanted that knowledge in their heads and no one would have thought anything of it, and if Atsushi's ability was created separately in a way that makes him/his ability different than the others, it would explain how he's the only one who wasn't born with the knowledge that he had a special ability

Anyways I don't think I really had too much more too add to this post, I'm mostly just elaborating on ideas that have already been stated but these were just a few more things that occured to me to back up a few more of these points because it's something that's been scratching at the back of my head this entire time skxnakskwkw

Uhhh maybe I’ll write down the chronology cause I don’t trust my memory at all, it already failed me xD

So. Hunter finding out the truth and running away with Collector’s tablet.

Realizing later he has it but not daring to throw away. Identity crisis. Collector’s mean comments don’t help. But at least they say what he is and name drops Philip xD

Somewhere in there Collector and Hunter get to see each other more than ‘just a grimwalker’ and ‘some shadow entity that worked with Belos’, but kids.

Hunter remembers about traitors so he is hoping to get in contact with them and goes to Black Market.

Due to plot convenience RED don’t go into that mission because of GG’s disappearance and again, plot convenience xD

But he meets Luz, who drags him into Owl House.

Everyone(minus King) meet Collector and Luz realized that was them in the past Philip found. Hunter connects the ‘Belos-Philip’ and ‘human Philip’ and Luz freaks out that Belos is Philip. Collector cackles at the secret being out.

In the morning they meet King. They positively freak out, dropping a bomb on King being a titan, and that freaks King out! There was no Eda or Hunter in the scene(and King asks Luz and Collector to keep it a secret for now) and after Hooty barfes the letter, King decides to check himself first. Collector joins Luz, King and Hooty cause ‘YAY TITANS’

But they hide cause also ‘Oh no Titans =,(’

So they don’t see how everything is wrong.

The Titan Trapper name makes King confused and Collector’s silence on possible ‘conflict with titans’ makes him think there was some civil war amongst them.

Luz goes with Hooty to Bill and finds the shrine. They know Collector, but still learn about killing part of the cult.

King is almost sacrificed, but by seeing the same tablet but broken and hearing the ‘free our god’ he immediately pulls Collector out. TTs freak out cause it’s their GOD. Collector freaks out cause all the baby titan skulls. And then Bill tries to sacrifice King for him and he unfreezes HARD.

Then Luz gets them and they ran away. Everyone are super traumatised and Luz’s guilt(oh hey Belos is Philip, oh hey I led Belos to this shadow kid, oh hey, I should have figured out this island was fishy and got both out) spikes.

They arrived to Owl House, but oops it’s empty.

MEANWHILE, while the gang is out Hunter for whatever plot convenience goes to Hexside(return something or whatever, the boy wants to be useful). And then the whole episode happens.

Hunter bunks with Gus and while chatting with him and Willow realizes he wasn’t checking his pensta. And gets burried by all the messages from Darius.

They contact and Darius visits him to make sure he is okay but also say not come back to Owl House because they were ambushed but he did not hear anyone being captured.

Hunter is distressed about Collector being confiscated as some artifact and Gus with Willow, already knowing some idea about Collector comforts him that his lil buddy is okay.

To Darius’s question Hunter explained even more vague about this other kid no one even knew about and either way he can’t explain it, you need to see it.

Back to the newly traumatised gang. They find Eda and Lilith and Collector asks if Hunter is around. He is not =( Collector questions that maybe he should go back to Belos already? But Lilith basically drops that sorry Collector, but he most likely used you, like everyone else. Collector is NOT happy about this and argues but there is still this... unsureness. Eda comforts him later and Collector says he did his part of promise so it should be Belos’s time now, but... you don’t treat you friend like that, don’t you.

Luz offers a heist to get King’s Francois and offers Collector to join for some fun adventure and they happily agree and to help King too!

Everything goes basically the same excpet Collector kept finding the wrong toys, each more bizarre than the last. And when Luz found it and showed it:

“But it’s nothing special.”

“Maybe he is not, but he special to King.”

Then the fight happens, Collector distracts Eda with shadows and they are captured, thankfully Collector was not visible in that moment.

When Luz was thrown into the vagon and Collector peeks out with concerned ‘Luz?’, she panicly shushes him, worrying that scouts will take the tablet and bring it back to Belos.

And then they are freed and the adults meet Collector(and yes, you have to see it yourself xD) and King gets Francouis.

Hunter who found out the adults meeting with the Owl fam wanted to join too but was not allowed. Only to wait in the hide-out.

And when they are back Collector is escitedly bounces around Hunter:

“Guess what? Guess what??”

“Wh-what?”

“You are Francois!”

“What?!”

“You see, Francois is not special or unique at ALL-”

“Uh-huh...”

“- but he is special to King! And you are special to me!”

“I don’t know how to feel about being compared to a toy, but thanks.”

Hunter makes sure Collector didn’t tell anyone that Hunter is a grimwalker which Collector forgot all together xD And asks to keep it a secret until he is ready. Asks if Hunter needs to do anything for Collector in return... But Collector says that’s not what friends do, so he promises.

And then Raine drops that Belos was searching for some stolen artifcat and this gets Collector all small and confused.

Hunter says he was scared too when he found out Belos was looking for him. But Collector denies being scared, they are friends(not sounding convinced whatsover) and continues in subdued tone watching Luz, Eda and others ‘I don’t think I like this game anymore. Maybe if I ask Philip real nice, he’ll stop?’

But that’s a no. Collector says Philip promised to free him, he just needed to find titan’s blood, that’s all. Hunter says he gave him the key with the blood. Collector knows that and he shrienks on himself.

He promises to find a way to free them. (Collector conveniently forgot he has a titan around xD)

Next everything is basically the same, Luz meets up with Willow and Gus(Collector is with them so they meet him too and later Amity xD). King and Collector tell Alador the truth. Hunter(Luz) is taken and everyone rush to the skull.

When they fight Belos and he strikes Hunter Collector gets out, obscuring his view ‘Leave Hunter alone, you bully!’ (he doesn’t want Hunter to break, he likes THIS Hunter!!)

Belos gets the tablet, does his evil jerk speech and throws him down.

King goes down after him, meets Kiki who says that the Collector can stop it (”He can do that?!) and when he finds the tablet(tell what you want but I refuse to believe it is so easy to break something like that) and King remembers that TT wanted to do some ritual to free him, Collector says it’s reeeeally easy!

And then they are free. He comes up, boops Belos, King reminds him about the draining spell, he boops the moon too. Everyone are in awe.

They grab Hunter in tight hug, spinning in the air and bring everyone up to their level to spin nearby.

Happy end! (goop-Belos still survived xD)

First, Asahi: "Almost like Clark Kent. A geek sat in his office and then he goes and does something amazing." 8/10. He's not superman but he is surprisingly good when he steps onto the court.

Norman: "Wants to be a private eye." 5/10 not quite accurate, but I could see it.

Gemima, who got paired up with Conny: "They're just annoying. Just look at them, you know they're annoying." 1/10 it was funny, but they're very sweet little girls.

Bruce: "Thinks he's gorgeous." 0/10 ma'am you do not know the self-hatred this man possesses.

Kili hilariously got paired with Fili, and my mother said they both look like they're thinking: "Where the fuck did I park my horse?" 25/10. She has never seen the hobbit and I laughed SO HARD because she knew if anyone was going to lose a horse it was those two idiots.

Jedediah was missed because she recognised him and wouldn't have had to guess his character.

Oikawa: "Boring." 2/10 it's funny because he'd be so insulted, but he's far too dramatic to ever be boring.

Emma: "A trendsetter." 7/10 Technically she did inspire an entire crazy escape plan, so I'll take it.

Camilo: "The annoying friend who sings everything." 5/10 accurate, but I deducted points because despite loving Encanto and having watched it multiple times, my mum did not recognise Camilo and thought he was a girl XD

Pietro: "Super fast. If he ran it would be fast. If he rode a horse it would be fast. He'd want to be moving fast." 8/10 I think the icon gave her too big a clue (though she said she didn't realise he was running and thought his hand was up because his wrist was broken), but I would LOVE to see Pietro's superspeed transfer to a horse.

Ori: "He has a speech impediment and is a bit slow." 0/10 more of an unfair judgement than my mother usually gives people, and not accurate at all. Ori is very smart and I love him.

Revali: "Bit of a mean bastard." 10/10 perfect yes he is.

Yamaguchi: "Looks shocked at the world." 9/10 he is, in fact, intimidated by most of the world, so I'll accept that as a correct answer.

Kagari: "Wants to be in a boyband." 8/10 not correct but given that my depiction of Kagari is deaf, I did laugh quite hard at the irony.

Don: "Know-it-all. Thinks he knows everyone's secrets and he doesn't." 3/10 Don does like to think he knows more than he does, but he definitely doesn't think he's really super smart and knows everything about everyone.

Bilbo she vaguely recognised (enough to know he was a Hobbit) but had nothing to say about him.

Thaumas: "Physically strong." 6/10 his whole character is he's too pretty and wants to be left alone because too many people are into him, but there's nothing to say he isn't also physically strong.

Viktor: "What happened to it's eyes?" 9/10 I have no words.

Tsukishima: "He has a 'fuck off' expression." 10/10 yes he does.

Hawthorn and Attalea she had nothing to say for because she 'wasn't sure what was happening'.

Damien: "That's Billy Bullshit. He's two-faced." 3/10 technically he keeps the two sides of himself very separate, but he's not mean or bitchy and he's learning to embrace every part of himself and I love him for that.

Piers: "Scary." 6/10 he's a sweetheart but many young pokemon trainers would agree with my mum XD

Miguel: "Geeky gay Jesus." 10/10 not accurate but sheer perfect anyway.

Nori: "He's a wannabe wizard." 9/10 not AT ALL but I loved that anyway.

Tyler: "He wants to be a personal trainer but he can't." 4/10 it was funny but he dresses that way because he's gay and also we have watched Turning Red more than once so again, I don't know how she didn't recognise him at all.

Kenma: "A sulky teenager." 9/10 yep. Yep he is XD

Lucien: "He looks gay." 9/10 he would be very happy to know that he is not being mistaken for a heterosexual being

Jack got missed because, like Jedediah, she knew who he was.

Ryan: "He thinks he's the strongest but he cries if he can't find the red skittles." 10/10 I have NO IDEA why she went for skittles but she's completely right.

Takuto: "Tarty, because she reminds me of somebody." 6/10 well yes, Takuto could be described as a tart, but is not a she, and now I want to know who he reminds her of XD

I was "learn a new skill" bored during my last quarantine, so I taught myself basic chainmail weaving. I'm fully engrossed, I can tell that this is a hobby that will come back up in the hyperfixation rotation.

The coiling and cutting of the rings is a super satisfying repetitive action, and I've gotten some tools to expedite the process for mass production if I get tired of it. Joining and closing the rings is a joy; I have to keep reminding myself to use the pliers so I don't tear up my fingertips.

I've wound well over 100ft of wire into rings already with very few ideas of what I'm actually going to make yet. I have vague ideas of dice bags and stuff, but if I want to make any armor for myself I'd need a different color of rings; I have a black chain hauberk I'm not going to pair that with a shiny silver coif.

I'm also thinking about making some armor for my bonus kid's stuffed tiger, I think that would be a fun way to practice making the shapes. Plus if I get a little bit wrong here or there and something pinches, the stuffie isn't likely to complain XD

Also, I've been listening to The Silmarillion a lot while doing this and there is something incredibly satisfying about making chainmail while an epic tale of war and heroism is being recited. Making me yearn for an idealized past: spring and summer for farming and hunting, fall for harvest and preparation, winters of crafting and storytelling. I know it wasn't that simple, I'm acutely aware of how dependent I am on things like grocery stores and pharmacies and my cell phone, not to mention doctors and civil water engineers and the international trade system and everything else that gives me enough ease and leisure in my life to have time to daydream about something "simpler".

Hell, I've been offered land and farming equipment TWICE as inheritance and turned it down both times because I know what the reality of being a small family-run agricultural business is these days. It literally killed my uncles, hence the offer of inheritance. I don't want that.

But it's remarkable to me how much the idealized life of so many of my generation (house with some land, a few domestic animals, garden, community of friends and relations living nearby, not quite fully self-sufficient but supplementing home produced goods with commercial purchases) is the same life our grandparents or great-grandparents fought so hard to get away from...

Pfft sometimes coffee confuses me because everyone I know who drinks it seems to drink it for the caffeine...do people actually like coffee itself, or is it the caffeine? I'm mostly joking but also very confused XD And ooh...honestly electric guitars are very cool. I don't know why but they're just always associated with cool for whatever reason?? Electric instruments fascinate me however. Like what we make electric vs what we don't...imagine an electric violin. Or a flute. A recorder XD Idk but basically I can see why you'd pick that!! It's really cool you can do the guitar! I am terrible with music (I tried to learn the violin as a kid...I broke part of it on the very first day, panicked, and tried to fix it with superglue. It...sorta worked, enough so that I managed to just keep quiet about it until I turned 18 and was well away from consequences regarding breaking it lol.)

I think personally I'd like to go sports, but opportunities are low where I am, so it feels a bit wasted :( So maybe music? Ideally sports, especially anything that lets me go super fast. ALSO I want to be able to swim. And currently I uh cannot. And keep failing at trying to learn. Oh well.

Okay so 3 careers...I feel like I'm gonna be a bit vague here. First is my ideal career of "something that helps children with special educational needs". Whether that's like, support in schools, or making sure schools provide the right support, idk. Second...probably something medical? When I was younger I had wanted to study medicine at uni. I did not in the end but yeah! Helping out in the medical industry would be fun. And third...an animator! I've not got the patience for it tho XD What about you??

And cats!! I have two, one of which is sleeping beside the computer and the other is currently climbing over the keyboard and trying to sit on my arms. She is very helpful (sarcasm) but I love her so she gets away with everything XD You? And unsure on the pink vs blue...probably blue? In general I prefer warm colours to cool colours, but if I look around I have more blue things than pink things so maybe blue is the exception?

It can be a little hard to understand; the anime in particular is very vague. However, the manga does seem to imply that Mistress 9's humanoid form is indeed Hotaru's body aged up due to accelerated growth. For example, there's a scene where Mistress 9 complains about how her hair keeps growing to extremely long lengths no matter how much she cuts it, implying that her awakened presence has an accelerating effect on Hotaru's body.

In the manga, we also see her true form later on, which is a monstrous Daimon that looks nothing like the beautiful form she took on earlier.

I've headcanoned for a long time that Hotaru will look like Mistress 9 when she grows up, minus the super long hair of course.
