Meet The Leader Of Onychinus

Synopsis: After days of being locked up in the base of the man wo had taken you from your home, you finally are summoned to meet him. Little do you know it is so much worse than you imagined. You're in the base of the criminal organization, Onychinus.

an: Firstly i want to thank all of you for how much love this fic has gotten so far, i honestly didnt expect any of this so im kinda in shock??? But really, thank you. Ive been sitting on this idea for a little over a month now and im finally getting around to working it out for all of you!! but i hope you enjoy this chapter! its a tad longer than the first, once i find my footing in writing again maybe ill make them longer but this is what i worked up for now!! Also as always if you see any mistakes please let me know!

The N109 Zone has kept you in near complete darkness for days. You didn't know how long you spent in this room, door locked from the outside, no way to leave; but it felt like a lifetime already. You were grateful for the ensuite bathroom, the sink enough to satisfy your thirst, but the small amount of food left for you on the desk was a reminder that it was just enough to keep you alive. A small box of crackers and a handful of granola bars didn't satisfy the hunger in your stomach. 

Sleep has eluded you, no matter how much you tried, it barely came. When it did, you were restless - tossing and turning for a few hours until you rose again. Dreams filled with terrifying crimson eyes and vast darkness. The constant blackness didn't help, not knowing the time of day or how long you had been here made your unease crawl under your skin. Your time spent by laying around and watching out the window for any signs of anything, but everything stayed still.

The house had been quiet, soft shuffling of the maid could be heard through the door at times, but other than that there was nothing. Were you the only one here? Where did the twins and that man go? Maybe the thought of leaving you here to starve to death hadn't been too extreme, seeing that no one had come to check on you since the moment you arrived. Kieran and his twin tossing your bag in the room and shutting it tight behind you, the unmistakable sound of the lock latching closed.

You often found yourself imagining what would've happened if you were strong enough to fight back, strong enough to get away from the entire situation. How could this have happened? Your father? The only family you have, selling you off to a criminal for payment. It didn't feel real. If things had been different, if you had gotten away, maybe you'd be somewhere else by now. Hiding out in the depths of Linkon, or maybe at the beach. 

A single sharp knock brought your mind back, your heart speeding up in your chest as you stand from the plush bed. The door unlocked and opened; familiar crow masks meet your gaze as they both stand in the doorway.

"Boss wants to see you now," One spoke, stepping forward into the room. The wide space receding at his presence, shrinking the room by tenfold as your hands shake. Reluctantly, you step forward, surrendering yourself to them to take you to their boss. His hand curls around your arm as he leads you out, his twin mirroring his actions. They lead you through the massive house, warm, dim light illuminating the halls as you pass. The thought occurs, that it wouldn't matter if they held you, you wouldn't make it out of this maze of a building alone. 

Rounding a corner, you are pulled down a long hallway. A brilliant, massive door stands before you, intricate wood carvings dance up the length like vines. Two brass door handles twinkle in the dim light, glistening like a prize. But beyond that door, whatever was waiting for you, is anything but. 

With each step, you could feel his presence looming - his power consuming. If only you could run, save yourself from the torture you were about to endure. The anticipation eating you alive, steeling you for any abuse about to come.

The twins reach out, hands curling around both handles before swinging the wide, heavy doors open.

If it hadn't been a few sconces on the wall, barely illuminating the room, you would've guessed it had been abandoned. But at the far end, a chair sat, large enough to be called a throne. And perched on it, with crossed legs and his head in his hand, the man who had taken you from your home. From your life. 

Candlelight flickered over his strong features; you couldn't make out if he was pissed or simply bored. You didn't want to find out. But caught like his prey, you were immobilized, arms wrapped in two strong hands holding them firmly at your sides. Is this what it feels like to be a hare, staring down the throat of a looming wolf, about to be consumed? You wouldn't doubt if he could hear your beating heart from across the room, the way his eyes stayed glued to your form. 

"You can go," You flinch, the deep voice echoing in the large space. Within a second the hands drop from you, the twins turning and leaving. You didn't watch them, couldn't even lift your head from the floor. Stay still, stay quiet. Stay complicit and maybe you would survive this.

Silence so deafening as the room settles around the two of you, his eyes burning holes into your flesh as neither of you move. Was he waiting for you? Were you supposed to speak? You ball your fists at your side, closing your eyes as you take a deep breath. The feeling of dread never leaving, maybe this is where you die? He had his fun, leaving you to go insane as you stayed locked away, now this is his real show. Ripping you apart, shooting you, stabbing you. Anything. 

"Apologies for my lack of manners," He finally spoke, his words feeling like a blow to your stomach as you breathe out. You don't meet his gaze, eyes still screwed shut. "I had some... business to attend to for a few days. But now that I have returned," He pauses, something touches you and you jump, eyes flinging open as you see tendrils of red and black mist curl around you before locking around your wrists, drawing them together in a bruising grip. You cry out, a soft mewl as you try to pull away. "We have some business to attend to ourselves."

"I... Please, I'll do anything just don't hurt me," You whimper out, tears already threatening to leave your tired eyes. You look at him, finally. Seeing those blood red eyes on you again brought a chill down your spine. 

"Then don't make me," His words matter of fact. He dropped his hand from his head as his other rose up, more mist shooting across the room before it tightened around your waist. Next thing you know you're being pulled across the room at lightning speed, your hair flying behind you as the air gets knocked from your lungs. You prepare for impact, maybe a wall or a floor, but it never comes. You're delicately placed on his lap, strong thighs under yours as you blink, trying to understand what happened. Your wrists are still bound, the grip of the mist never wavering. 

"Please..." You whisper again, wanting this cat and mouse game to end. Just get it over with, for him to stop toying with you. You almost don't see it, a small tick of his lips upward in a smirk for just a second. 

"I need to make sure you won't disobey me," He leans back, resting in his throne as if this is the most normal situation in the world. "I know your power; how strong it can be. How strong you can make me." A crease forms between his brows.

"Y-yes," You stutter out, a tear slipping from your eye. 

"I have got to say, Kitten," He smirks again at the nickname, your gut turning in response. "If I train you right, you will be my most powerful weapon." His hand comes up, you flinch away, eyes closing as you turn your head waiting for a blow. But his long fingers brush against your cheek, tucking your hair behind your ear. 

"But," He speaks again. "I don't know if I can trust you yet." His words lower to a whisper, the closeness and how quiet his voice became felt like this whole scene was more intimate than you wanted. He was toying with you, you knew this. Kneading you like dough before tossing you in the oven to bake you alive. Trust? You? He could kill you without thought and he is worried about trusting you? Maybe he is planning on whipping you to submission, breaking you to the point you can no longer do anything but be used by him. The though made you want to puke. You needed to think, work a plan to lessen your sentence in this hell so the pain wouldn't be so bad.

"Maybe you could trust me if I can trust you in return," You try your hardest to speak with confidence. He cocks an eyebrow at you, tilting his head slightly. "I mean," Your words rush out, grasping at anything to delay the inevitable. "I don't even know your name..." You whisper out. He laughs, his hot breath fanning over your face.

"You can call me Sylus."

"Sylus," You repeat, nodding your head once.

"And I'm the leader of Onychinus," He watched in amusement as the realization washed over you, the candlelight flickering off of his features making his face look like some kind of monster. Face dropping as your pulse quickened at that one word. Onychinus. The most dangerous criminal organization in the N109 Zone. And here you were, caught in the trap of the leader, sitting on his lap at his base. The nausea returned, your stomach turning as your mouth flooded with saliva. There really was no hope for you, you were royally fucked. 

"O-Onychinus," You breathe out, your vision tunneling as your pulse pounded in your veins. Sylus's lips curled up in an evil smile, his eyes dancing between yours.

"That's right, Kitten. That Onychinus." You try to swallow, the lump in your throat so large you almost choke. "Your - lovely - father had been playing too many games down in The N109 Zone and found himself in the palm of my hand." He held out his large hand, as if to demonstrate. "Having the right-hand man to the mayor of Linkon as your client is only as useful as any lowlife is. But the more money he owed the more I got fed up with is useless promises and his pathetic excuses. But luckily, he offered me you." His fingers curl into his palm, except his index which he pointed at your chest. "And that ticking little bomb in your chest." Almost as if on cue, your heart sped impossibly faster as he tapped on it twice. 

"So," He pulled away, leisurely resting back in the chair. "I don't really care if you trust me. I just need to make sure that you don't get any silly ideas of escaping or trying to take me down from the inside out. I own you now, there's no where you can run to, Kitten." He looked away, boredom coating his features again as his eyes trailed past you. You couldn't do anything other than stare at his haunting face. How could you run? The leader of Onychinus surely had more surveillance than you could ever imagine. And taking him down? You barely had enough energy to even sit here.

"I won't," You promise weakly, your words a breathless whisper as your eyes stay trained on his face. Your fists ball, muscles tensing against the tight ring of mist. The pressure straining against your pulse.

His eyes drift back to yours, a hand lifting from the arm of the chair. You watch more of the black and red smoke flow from thin air. It grazes your arm; you fight against a wince as it trails down to your still conjoined wrists. The link holding them together snaps as the tendril loops around one, firm but not suffocating like before. It lifts it, hand facing the ceiling as it continues to coil around your skin like a snake. Even though you wanted to, you couldn't deny how sensual the act felt. 

"Let's try something, then," Sylus purrs, sending a shiver down your spine and drawing your eyes back to his face. His intense gaze flickering between your eyes as the corner of his lips draw up into a smirk. The confused heart in your chest sped faster, at the anticipation or how intimate the setting has become? You weren't sure. 

His long fingers traced up your inner forearm, gliding up to your wrist in a delicate touch as goosebumps rose in its wake, drawing a gasp from your lips. You watch as Sylus's fingers push yours open, splayed wide before his thread through yours. 

HIs words ring in your ears from days prior. He doesn't do that. But here he is now, you nestled on his large thighs as his hand intwines with yours. Maybe it had been a front, a shoe so no one knows what he really does with his toys.

But to your surprise his hand tightens, an almost crushing grip before you feel the all too familiar pull of your evol. Power being pulled from deep inside your core as he tries to draw it out. But your head swirled, blood rushing as you cry out.

"Stop, please," You cry, trying to pull your hand from his. The grip only tightened as the crease between his brows returned with a scowl. 

"Not so fast," He gritted between his teeth. Sylus pushes harder, eyes closing in an attempt to focus on waking your evol. White, hot pain bloomed in your throbbing head, making a sob rip from your chest.

"I c-can't! Please, Sylus, I can't!" You plead out again, your free hand coming to cradle your skull. His eyes snap open, washing over your features before letting your hand fall with a scoff. 

"You're lucky I don't like picking on the weak, Kitten," He seethed. Your eyes screw shut, other hand coming to your head as you try your hardest to will the pain away. Your body weak with hunger and exhaustion, you didn't care if he killed you for not resonating with him, you almost hoped he would, anything to stop this burning pain.

Sylus shifted under you, but you didn't care, praying he was reaching for a gun to end this never-ending nightmare. But a minute later the tendrils enveloped you again. The feeling of Sylus's thighs left you as your body was placed onto the hard, cold floor. 

He didn't speak, you don't know if he was sitting and watching you writhe in pain or focused on another point in the room. Wishing you were a stronger person, you'd curse him out, spit in his face and scream at him for causing you so much pain. But the only thing you could manage was a weak sob.

The twin heavy doors sounded behind you; two boot clad footsteps grew louder until they stopped next to you.

 "Take her to her room. We're done here," Sylus spoke, his voice cold as stone.

"Yes, Boss," The twins obeyed, their hands returning around your arms slowly lifting you from the floor to your feet. you couldn't help but note that their touch was cautious, almost caring, as they paused to help you figure out your footing.

Once steady, they lead you down the winding, confusing maze that was the base of Onychinus in silence until you reach the door that contained your prison cell. Kieran releases your arm as he steps forward, clasping the knob before opening the door.

If his twin hadn't been holding onto you, you would've collapsed at the sight before you. Large boxes lined the room, a few smaller ones resting on the plush bed. If it hadn't been for the dove plush sitting atop of one, you wouldn't know what the contents would be. But you remember that same dove sitting on your bed at home. These were your things, your beloved belongings. A splash of color against the dim, dark area you had spent your last days. A sense of familiarity, a sense of home. Safety.

Kieran's twin lets you go, your feet wasting no time to move beneath you, drawing you further into the room. Your shaking hands reach out, reaching or the dove, almost needing to confirm that this is real. Your hands grasp it, not wasting any time to pull it to your heaving chest as a soft, relieved sob slips past your lips. You turn around and face the two masked men watching from the doorway.

"Thank you," Two simple words fall from your mouth, but they nod, understanding before they shut the door, leaving you some peace. 

Knees hitting the wooden floor beneath you as you collapse. Uncontrollable sobs shaking out of your weak body.

so what i’m getting is that you may feel very confused at times on how your fs feels. i’m seeing this is because they don’t open up, but since you’re very unaware of it you can feel very left in the dark. i’m seeing they don’t intend to do this and you may ask them “did i do something wrong?” it honestly like breaks their heart lol. this is something that they definitely would need to work on. however they’re easily able to redeem themselves. i’m seeing here that they can be very busy but they’re able to make time for you. when they say something they mean it, so if you guys have a planned date and something comes up they are not rescheduling it. they are doing it that day lol. also i’m seeing that they seem to be more of a listener than a talker and this makes you feel very heard. you may be more of a talker and so you think “oh my god i’m talking their ear off” but they love hearing what you have to say. i’m also seeing that they’re very very protective of you. and this makes you feel very grounded and nurtured. maybe you haven’t felt this way in the past and this person just brings you lots of comfort and joy. they also make you feel confident asfffff. i’m seeing at times you can be very insecure and when you express this to them they’re like “excuse me???” because in their eyes you’re the most perfect human being they’ve ever laid their eyes on. this could also be from them being a romantic they show you how beautiful you are to them… iykwim.

so immediately i thought abt their eyes. they might have very sleepy looking eyes or they might look “dead”. their eye color too might be a dark dark brown color. i’m seeing that they could have king eyelashes. their eyes are very prominent. i’m seeing that they could bleach their hair? maybe they have naturally dark hair but they bleach it to be white or blonde. im seeing that their hair could be mid length or could be slightly long. guys could be a bit on the longer side and girls could be a little bit shorter. nothing too short or too long. i’m seeing that they might have very very pale skin… like ghost white. 😭 i’m not seeing dark skin. i am seeing them being fairly short. they’re def shorter than you lol. this person skin is also so??? they for sure have a skincare routine. they have this thing where they have to look good. i’m seeing their style might be a bit edgy but it’s a very unique style. they’re not very alternative or gothic just sort of edgy, but they put together their outfits well. i’m seeing they like to at least look nice wherever they’re going they don’t look ‘musty’ or like they don’t shower. they might be the total opposite of you tbh??? like this is a person people are quick to make assumptions about. and you’re sooooo quick to defend them lol. i’m seeing them as very skinny too. i don’t see them working out so much so they could very skinny and scrawny lol. they’re definitely someone people look at, some people find them to be attractive and some seem to assume a lot about them. but at the end of the day you know them for how they truly are. your fav thing abt them is their eyes tho like it won’t leave my head. tbh they’re kind of intimidating to people.

Sophia left her old school to start a new life, to start writing a new page in her book and leave all the mistakes in the past. What happens when the most precious thing she lost because of those same mistakes comes rushing back into her life, but not for the reasons she hoped for.

Sophia would lie if she said she didn't wanna see you, but she wasn't ecstatic about it either.

She stared out the window of daniela's car, only occasionally answering and engaging in the ongoing conversation.

She didn't know why, but she felt envious everytime Lara or Manon or Megan said they were hanging out with you, she also didn't know if she wanted to be them, to hang out with you and be all normal, or for them to never talk to you again.

Sure, it sounded like she was 'hogging' her friends but what could she do? You so determindadly told her you would take her friends away, she was allowed to be concerned, afraid even.

She knew how much hatred you held towards her, but still she had hope that things would change.

"Sophia?" The sound of yoonchae's voice broke her out of her train of thoughts.

"Huh?" She asked, confused, "what?"

"I've been calling you for five minutes, we're here," Sophia squinted her eyes, and sure enough, the familiar banner of their obviously favourite cafe came into sight.

"Roll up the windows before exiting the car," Daniela called out, parking the car.

"Sure, mom!" Magan snickered, only to receive a glare from daniela's end, "okay, okay, Im joking."

Sophia chuckled as she stepped out of the car, dusting her jeans of the invisible dust.

"Let's go in, I'm freezing!" Manon squaled, rushing towards the door.

"Bitch, what do you mean by freezing, I'm sweating balls right now," Lara gave her a dumbfounded look.

"There they are," yoonchae pointed with her hand to a random direction when they walked in.

Sophia's breath hitched, there you sat, leaning back in your seat, arm draping over karina's shoulders as yunjin talked your ear off.

Everyone speed walked towards your table, but Sophia kept her slow pace, contemplating whether it was a good idea to dip and run or just go along with it.

She murmured a quiet "hi" as she sat down next to Megan and opposite you, okay, not a good spot but that was the only seat available and she wasn't about to tell anyone to move just because she didn't wanna seat near you, which of course she didn't.

"So, since I'm paying," you chuckled, "have you decided what y'all want to order?"

"Oh, I'm about to make your wallet HURT." Daniela snorted at Lara's words.

"Oh, don't worry sweetheart, order anything you want," you smirked, "My wallet won't be hurting anytime soon."

Sophia has never heard you call anyone that except herself, and it kinda hurt how once reserved nickname for her only, could slip so easily past your lips when talking to someone.

"It's okay," you smiled, "we can box these up, and eat them later."

"Excuse me, miss lucinda," you called over the waitress, "can we get a box for all of this? Thank you."

"Sure," she winked at you and walked away.

Sophia scoffed, maybe a bit loudly because your head snapped towards her, "why Sophia? Does it bother you that I talk to other people?"

"W-what?" She was stunned to say the least, why were you so blunt? "Of course not, why w-would it?"

"Here are your boxes!" This was the first time tonight that Sofia felt happy seeing Lucinda approach.

"Uh, thank you," megan let out awkwardly.

"Also, here's the bill," she smiled, looking at you once again.

"Great, thank you," you smiled, taking out your wallet and placing two one hundred dollar bills down on the table, "the rest is your tip."

"come on, man! you can't keep picking general shao! you can just say you hate me," johnny groans, staring at the character select screen. his favorite thing was to drop tidbits about the characters and compare them to the real life counterparts. you chuckle and lean back in your chair, pulling your headset mic closer to your lips. "would you rather i picked one of your buddies? kenshi, or as you called him, sexy face two?"

"and now you're asking me to beat up my best friend," johnny sighs dramatically. you giggle, and it makes his heart flutter and cheeks redden. thankfully, today was a day your webcams were turned off so you were none the wiser. you make a comment that he's the one that wanted to play a game that features his real friends and actual enemies which earns yet another groan from him.

"if you're gonna be annoying, we could switch to something else?" you offer teasingly. "not my fault you choose to stare at yourself every game instead of learning combos."

"oh hush, you love me," johnny replies, earning a little peep from you out of surprise. he loved to push your buttons and flirt with you. it was in his personality, sure, but because of it you did have a massive crush on him. it was innocent and purehearted, but you just couldn't see yourself risking your great friendship over some silly feelings. "...shut up," you pathetically try to retort, sinking into your seat and fighting the flush on your face. "are we gonna run another round or what?"

"well, two things actually. could you turn your camera on so i can properly ask you?"

you shakily turn your camera on in discord, anxiously glancing between your monitors and camera lens. johnny smiles to himself, leaning forward get a closer look at you as if you were sitting across the table from him.

"good girl, there we go," he says encouragingly, making your thighs clench as you use your sleeves to hide your face. "no, come on, don't hide. here, let me-" he clicks on his own camera button and his webcam blinks to life. he smiles directly into the camera, and for a moment you're winded at the reminder that you're best friends with a celebrity. "-there. now it doesn't feel like i'm talking to my computer."

"well, you are-" you speak up, ready to go on one of your famous tech tangents. johnny holds up a single finger, shushing you instantly. as much as he'd love to hear your voice for hours on end, he wanted to squeeze out what he was going to say first.

"-hold your tongue, my dearest nerd," johnny quips with a wink. "my favor first." you tense up before he speaks up again. "i've got a movie coming out. finally, right? point is, cris is an absolute no-go, and my assistant couldn't find a damsel to hang off my arm in time for the red carpet. so, next best thing, i was wondering if... you'd be my plus one."

"i-i don't dress up, johnny," you protest, looking away. "all those cameras, all the shouting... not for me."

"it's not all bad," he insists with a smirk. "you'll have me. all you have to do is stay close to me and smile."

you stammer, trying to spill out more excuses for him to give in and stop asking.

"i don't have a dress-"

"i'll buy you twenty."

"nobody knows who i am-"

"what if someone laughs at me?"

"doll, have you seen some of these hollywood clowns? you'll look just fine."

you tug at your hair, exasperated. he came prepared with every response, had every reason to bring you to the carpet. you wanted to say no, but truth be told, you missed johnny dearly. you don't get to see him in person often, given your medium distance and his constant work. a meek "fine" escapes your lips and johnny cheers to himself, his excitement painted all over his face. it made you warm how well he was at showing his appreciation at times.

"i knew i could count on you, sweetheart. this means the world to me. i'm getting you tomorrow at three, okay? we're gonna get you a nice dress, i'll get a matching suit tailored... oh, it'll be like prom all over again!" he's gesturing wildly as he hypes himself up over the plan.

"i never went to prom, johnny," you chuckle to yourself, eyes on your keyboard. "i wouldn't know the experience."

"well that's ridiculous," johnny looks surprised at this fact, for a reason you can't pinpoint. "i would have asked you if we knew each other then."

"i'm sure," you agree shyly, turning away to try and hide your blush. "i'll see you tomorrow, johnny."

"see you tomorrow, doll," he smiles at the camera again, and you catch a glimpse of it as you weakly return the expression. then, johnny leaves the call, leaving you huffing and blushing. he just asked you to be his plus one on the red carpet, for his movie, for his fans... all eyes will be on you. the thought terrifies you, but maybe you could push through for your friend. you were a software developer, mostly confined to your dimly lit bedroom. this was a whole new realm!

you roll around on your bed and kick your feet, wondering why you're always so awkward around him. if you fumble at all in public, your world might just fall apart. sleep doesn't come easy for you, but it eventually overpowers your anxiety.

Now that you mentioned it in the tags; I really enjoyed how you did the queerness of characters in-text and I saw you mentioned more than once before how they consider/call themselves gay or anything and I was wondering if you'd be willing to elaborate on that (in Ironwall, MVF etc), but more from a writing standpoint than a worldbuilding one. Hope Im making sense lol

i looked up the invention of the word 'homosexuality' and found that it was invented 6 years after stbh is set

ghksjdg i mean there's more to it than that but it meant that my language was constrained, which also means that the characters' language is constrained as well. i have to think about ways i want this to come across to the reader. at the time i was thinking about how the basic concept of "btw this character is not straight/cis" is communicated in some of the stories i'd read, and one that stood out to me was a comic i read in a fully fantasy setting where the writer brought the narrative to a juddering halt to explain exactly how gender & sexuality are handled by the people here. as in the characters essentially turn to the camera and give the main character a lecture. i really didn't like it, the author's hand was too visible behind the panels.

but i took it as a learning exercise as well on what i didn't want to do. i didn't like the neon signs pointing at any instance of non-heteronormativity and i also don't like stories that market themselves based on the characters' gender identities, particularly stories which do not involve a coming-of-age/character learns to discover themselves narrative. it's a book about two trans men but it's not a book about being trans. that's none of the reader's business, that's hidden from you (particularly in islin's case, intentionally). i never wanted to foster a sense of voyeurism towards trans people particularly knowing that most readers, statistically, will not be trans. crucially the characters are stealth to literally everybody but like 3 people. their transition is done.

i never wanted a coming out moment, or an "i'm here i'm queer" moment either - not even because Society in the setting just because i don't like those things. to completely normalise it in the narrative between these characters is the goal - almost to the point of never even pointing it out at all except when it has to be. the vibe i wanted was like... hanging out in not necessarily a gay space, but with gay people, talking about random other stuff. i didn't even like the One coming out scene i had to put in (senca being like "i only fuck women" to bowman so that he would stop hitting on her)

so when writing i had a pretty good idea of what i didn't want. for the setting i had some strict rules to follow as well. characters would not identify as gay or bisexual or even some fantasy equivalent because those were not identities, they were acts. and heterosexuality wasn't an identity either, it wasn't even "the natural way of things", it was the means by which wealth could transfer between generations. if you do not marry, then you are not conforming to your gender. the four unmarriagable men in mvf are all denied entry to normative manhood for many de-gendering factors (disability, unmanly hobbies, vow of chastity, etc) but the culmination of those factors is that they can't marry, which is the whole POINT of being a man. three of them are entirely denied generational wealth - forcing them into poverty (it's not a coincidence that gay people are overrepresented in the criminal organisation)

from a writing standpoint this leaves them in a grey zone. when writing i tried out different language to see if it read nice to me (19th century equivalents to 'boyfriend' etc) and they all rang quite false, because outside of the whole 'can we put a label on something that doesn't officially exist in society' thing, the characters themselves are not the types of people to think that way. Bowman was dating Léa but he was never dating Félix. you can't date another man. the only people who date men are women, and Bowman is not a woman. therefore he is not dating Félix. to give just one example. ultimately for the language used i found that just leaving it as-is worked the best for me.

so after working all that out i wrote tha thing and then wanted to kind of explore - at what point does it become romantic? is there an actual border between romantic and platonic when you've kind of already fallen between the cracks in society into the grey zone where nothing is defined because it doesn't affirm the power of the ruling class. and in these particular friendships, where they've already been all things to one another, they've already done everything together, good or bad, does adding 'romantic love' to that list of things wildly recontextualise it retroactively or does anything change at all? just like the ending reveal of stbh says: who actually is the guy we've been thinking of as 'félix ortega' ? does it recontextualise everything we've just read? no, right? (or does it?)

the usual 'will-they-won't-they' romance plot isn't a factor in the book, we already know they will, they have, they won't, and they refuse to, all at once.

(jean-baptiste thinks of himself as an invert because he is Learned and has read some fascinating journal articles about cutting-edge sexology, and his relation to his sexuality is very very different. it's not something he shares with his closest friends in spaces without scrutiny; his entire life is scrutinised and his social system is predicated on marriage. like i think i said in the book, probably, i don't remember: he and renard are two guys clinging to the same life raft. they hate each other! but if you push the other guy off the life raft, then you're just one guy alone at sea, forever.)

You wake up with a fuzzy head and thoughts falling through your fingers like sand. It's almost like you're sick... No...that can't be right-

A sneeze jitters your head, rattling your brain and making any thoughts that clung in your mind retreat.

Just a coincidence, nothing more-

Another sneeze and this time the shake of a head that follows leaves you reeling, rubbing your temples in a futile attempt to relieve the knocking that echoes in your mind.

Maybe you will just stay in today, curled in your blankets... Yes, that's it; you're just tired and need sleep.

You flop back into the warming embrace of fluffy blankets almost subconsciously, the cosy layers cocooning you in an embrace you wouldn't even be able to fight if you tried.

Cy POV switch

Cy was on their way to speak with the professor, definitely not what they would like to be doing with their time, but there is one upside. Or more like one person that makes the trip worth it.

They pull out their phone, chest already tight, before they see that the message they sent still hasn't been replied to. Two hours and still no reply; already their mind races with possibilities, and the tightness in their chest just keeps winding.

Their feet picking up speed, shoes scraping on the concrete and mind racing.

MC POV switch

You're not sure how long it's been since you decided that nothing could pull you from your fog-hazed slumber; at some somepoint you stopped even being able to tell the difference between dreams and reality.

You're pretty sure that the professor checked up on you a few times, but all you could reply with was groggy groans and mumbles.

There's a knock on your door frame, and you look up through the gap in the blankets that cover you. Oh, look, it's Cy.

Their voice comes out soft, broken up with breathless intakes. "Hey, you doing all right there?"

"Ughh..." is the most dignified response that leaves your mouth.

Cy lets out a small chuckle, tight with worry. "That bad, huh?"

Your head flops back into your cocoon; when did it become so much of an effort to keep it lifted?

You feel a dip in the mattress by your feet, but the idea of even shifting to face Cy is too much work.

"Hey, face me for a moment?" Cy gently prods you.

You shift in your blanket shield with a groan, so your face hole is facing Cy.

Cy slowly moves their hand towards you, giving you time to retract if you wanted to. Not that you have the energy to.

Finally, Cy hand presses to your forehead, the coolness of their skin causing you to lean into their touch as an almost purr sounds from your throat.

The coolness a balm to your aching head, your eyes flutter open, and you're granted a view of their amber eyes creased with worry. When did their eyes get so pretty?

"You definitely have a fever." Cy goes to lower their hand, and yours weakly wraps around theirs, keeping it on your forehead with a whimper.

"and now I'm your icepack..." You don't respond to that, continuing to snuggle as close as possible to Cy's hand. "You're going to need medicine." Yes...medicine, whatever you say, icepack.

You zone out, too focused on the coldness of Cy's hand that you don't realise what is happening until it retreats and Cy gets up, ignoring your grumbled protest.

"Im going to get you some, you just...stay and stew for abit."

The words break through your fevered mind; they are going to leave... What if they don't? What if they disappear again? Who's going to be here to look after you? What if they don't come back?

Your body snaps to attention as the panic sets in, rushing forwards as your hands grasp for the hem of Cy's shirt. "Please, don't leave me again…" You whisper, body aching and head woozy.

Cy POV switch

Cy's body freezes as soon as the words leave your lips. Abandon you? The very idea is ridiculous...but that's what they did, isn't it?

They had their justifications, childish fears twisted into adult melancholy and terror. Slowly it submerged them and drove them to do the very thing that they are scoffing at now.

What else would you think of them? What else could you think?

They lost that unwavering trust the moment they turned you away and left you there, and they won't lose it again.

So what else can they do but lower themselves back down? "Never, not again." Simply words and never enough to mend the wound, but they will do anything they can to slowly rebuild that bridge.

Even if they have to do something they would rather not...pulling out their phone and typing out a quick message to the person they wouldn't even trust with the simplest of tasks, let alone something as important as this.

Cy: A I need you to get some flu medicine and drop it off at the warehouse.

A: Has our time apart truly sickened you so much? No worries, I will get you what you need, and we will never need to be apart again. <3

Cy: JUST GET THE DAMN MEDICINE; IT'S IMPORTANT!!!

By the time the short text exchange is done, you're already asleep again. It's more than easy enough for Cy to sneak out and get it themselves, but they won't move from your side.

They will be here when you wake up and for as long as you will stand their presence to build whatever little trust they can claw back.

Anything to make your life that much easier and closer to what you deserve.

so! i had the idea that it would be super fun to have a community-wide event where we all have a prompt and then everyone fills it in their own way.

...i then decided all the prompts i came up with were too good not to use, but also none of them were Good Enough to use exclusively, so i changed my mind and the prompt is now just MATING SEASON. with a few suggestions at the bottom of this post if you're looking for some.

As I've personally headcanoned in my fic with Bunta, I'm a firm believer that he scrunches and twitches his nose when concentrated.

He might also poke his tongue out as well and never realise it until someone points it out.

Probably ends up with chapped lips a lot and doesn't understand why they're dry all the time so he's constantly carrying a tube of chap stick in his pocket.

Honestly, I have no idea where, when, or how I've come to headcanon this, but for some reason I've always believed that if you tap on either one of his shins when he's zoned out/daydreaming, it'll wake him right up. Just woosh instantly pops him out of that state and he'll just look at you like 😳 h u h ?

You'd think with how he's zoned out all the time, he wouldn't be too smart a guy, HOWEVER!!

I definitely think he's smarter than the anime lets on, and I'm not talking about anything racing related as of right now.

Think about it, besties. High school sucks ass, right? All this crap you gotta force yourself to understand the concepts of, and most of it is probably not interesting in the slightest, which makes it even harder to comprehend.

Not to Takumi. Sure, he's not gonna be a genius with perfect grades, but he definitely passes all of his class with a B- or higher.

Tak barely has time to think, let alone overthink a concept of school material, so instead of trying to understand why it is the way that it is, he simply... does. He basically goes, "there is no think; only do."

He just copies what the teachers explain and it sticks. He doesn't think about it. Take math for example.

The teacher writes down a specific equation with specific numbers. Now, the assignment is the same equation, but different numbers. Some people, myself included, HATE this. It makes it feel like it's harder to solve it now and looks like a whole new equation.

Takumi however, just switches the numbers from whatever the teacher wrote, to the assignment's numbers and solves it no problem. Itsuki HATES him for that. Man's completely jealous.

It's the same with how Tak learned to drive manual and the 8-6. He didn't overthink the concept of why you need a clutch or why you need to shift gears and use the pedals in a specific order, he simply did it and didn't question it. The SpeedStars make fun of his simple mind, but oohhh how I envy it.

Onto the next topic. I feel like some of his pet peeves would be being called "Kumi" cause it sounds more feminine, but Tak and obviously his full name is fine.

Doesn't like the sound of dragging feet, i.e shoes dragging on pavement, but likes the crunchy sound of walking on loose pavement, i.e those little pebbles on the shoulder of the road. Oddly specific, but I see it in him.

Doesn't like his hair or head being overly touched unless it's with his S/O. Is fine with it if one of his buddies is trying to get something out of his hair that's stuck, but for anything else, leave his head alone.

Is probably clothing selective, thus why he tends to wear the same or very similar outfits a lot. Certain textures bother him, so a simple soft, cotton shirt like his usual white one is perfect for him and he probably bought a crap ton by the multi-packs. Same with his jeans or kahki-textured pants.

Loves the feeling of silk, hates velvet. He'd be on cloud 9 sleeping on silk bed sheets, but hand him a velvet blanket and the texture that isn't as smooth when you push it against its flow makes his skin crawl. Idk how else to explain it, but its like he's mostly fine with following the flow of the velvet like how an animal's fur coat flows one way, but as soon as he brushes his skin the opposite way against the flow, he's done for.

Moving on to more of his general likes and dislikes, he loves sour candy but can't handle too many sweet things. The sugar gives him teefie aches. 😔

Loves spicy food, can't handle hot food. Like that hot bean bun Itsuki gave him in early Stage 1 and he starts fucking dry heaving. 😀

With spicy food, he can probably handle a lot and call it mild. Seeing as wasabi is commonly used on the side with many foods in Japan, he probably loves to use a lot of it for taste as well as spice so if you're dating him and can't handle spice or wasabi well, you're gonna look at him like he's psychotic.

(Side note, I also headcanon this for Shingo. Something about Ratman tells me he could eat the spiciest curry or sushi or whatever and be like, "ehh, it tastes good, just ain't spicy enough." and shrug it off. Meanwhile you'd probably have a running nose and gone through a box of tissues. He could probably eat a single ghost pepper and either finally fucking die, or be like, "Hey! Finally something with the right amount of spice! 😀" He's annoyingly cute.)

Anyways, back to Takumi! I believe his favourite colour(s) would either be blue, green, and/or white.

His favourite meat is salmon, also loves fatty tuna when sushi restaurants get it in season. His favourite veggies are broccoli and carrots. I see him eating fried tofu, chicken and mixed veggies with rice a lot at home. Whatever they don't sell at the shop they probably make it for dinner to save money and food.

Loves raspberries and strawberries, can only eat a small handful of blueberries before he gets sick of the taste (same with black olives).

Likes Eurobeat, but doesn't blast it. I see him playing it lightly like Yuichi did in the car when he past Takumi in the first episode. Just simple background noise.

Probably likes the Move band as well that the anime plays a lot, so I see him liking a bit of pop music too. Not a fan of metal or rap but likes the occasional classical song. It just makes him more tired, honestly.

Loves tea and coffee, pretty much any kind. Occasionally partakes in a fruit smoothie or a soda but not often.

Also a water chugger. I see him always having a glass or bottle of water on his bed shelf for the middle of the night when the sudden witching hour thirst wakes him up.

On to what ya'll have probably been waiting for: Relationship HCs! (Once again thanking @skeleton-beneath-this-skin for this part of the brainstorming!)

Tak is great boyfriend material, however is probably too shy for anything PDA, but will make up for it in other ways!

I do, however, see him holding your hand in large places like a mall just incase he spaces out and accidently loses you!

His hold would transition to hooking his arm in yours or holding your waist if you both end up in a crowded area, so he can both see and feel that you're with him the whole time and you don't get separated.

He's a strong believer in the sidewalk rule without evening knowing that it exists. It's just a subconscious instinct for him to walk on the outer part of the sidewalk closer to the road and you on the inside.

He's a great person to vent out your emotions to!!

If you're at his place or yours in either of your rooms and you had a bad day, he'd pick up on it easily through your body language before you even get a word out. If you're the type to go silent when things bother you, he'd notice easily since you're not your talkative self like you usually are with him.

If you ask him if you can just vent for a few minutes, he'd nod with a hum, getting himself comfy on the bed and leaning back against the wall.

Crossing his legs, he'd motion for you to sit on his lap, and help you wrap you legs around his waist as you lean into his chest. He'd rub your back and hair as you vent, and if he had an okayish or worse day as well, the rubs actually help him calm down too.

He ends up distracting himself with the motions, and feeling you on top of him is like a weighted blanket, simply bringing further comfort knowing you're here with him.

He will most likely zone out while you're venting, absentmindedly nodding along to your background voice. If you're used to this behaviour of his, this can work out great and here's a few reasons.

Firstly, he won't give you advice or solutions that you don't want if he's not listening to begin with lol.

Secondly, you're venting just to vent and get it off your chest with no judgement. Thus, literally talking TO him like a wall, helps more than keeping it bottled inside and talking about it to yourself in your head, whether he hears it or not.

Lastly, his calm demeanor ends up helping to calm you down faster as well, the more you talk and the more he rubs soothing patterns and pressure into your back, arms, hair, etc.

Another big part of your relationship with Takumi is napping.

Hell yeah, imagine taking a fat ass nap with the King of Sleep. ✋🏻😌

Especially if he's in those silk sheets from earlier, ya'll are goooooone. Out.

Imagine being in bed with him in the winter time, under some soft and comfy blankets, maybe even a heated one. Cold pillows under your head and you're nuzzled up against Takumi and your pillow in that specific position that has you tapping out instantly. Ugfhhh... THE DREAM.

Next up, him driving with you in the 8-6. Certified passenger princess in the famous Trueno. Always kicks Itsuki to the back seat. If he keeps complaining like that, he's gonna toss him in the hatch next like he's a crate of tofu.

Doesn't mind if you sit or lean on the car, he knows you're gentle with his baby and his eyes always fall back on you when you're on it with a blush.

Silently relishes in the fact you're dedicated to be at every race he's in, always looking back at you before he takes off down the pass, ensuring you're the last person he sees before he drives off.

If you're dead set on being there for his Project. D travels, he'll tell you, you don't need to go every time, and he understands if one of their stops is too far and late at night for you.

Will be happy and feel bad at the same time if you do attend somewhere far and ride with him in the 8-6, meaning you're gonna be stuck there with them until they leave, instead of bringing your own car and being able to go home if you need or want to.

If you've got an adventurous personality and travel with him a lot for Project. D, and even before, he'd like to drive you around to places you want to visit, shops, onsens, restaurants and the like.

I don't see it happening all the time, but it may be a tad more frequent during Project. D, but he's still kinda a broke teenager, especially after Bunta used all his money for the new engine, so I don't see him wanting to splurge a lot.

Personally, if it were my idea to go places that require spending money, I have the full intention of buying things myself, and at the very least my half of the restaurant bills.

If anyone agrees to this or does the same, Takumi would feel like he got a mountain lifted off of him lol. Poor boy would be hella worried about going out so much.

Of course, if he ever had the idea to take you places, it would be a vice versa scenario and he'd pay for it all, of course.

On to holidays, I see him enjoying them more once you come into his life. It was said in the show that he and his dad didn't celebrate Christmas since he didn't have a mom or see extended family, so he wouldn't get more into it until the season comes around and sees how excited you are for it.

Same with other holidays, he'd get into some simple aspects of Valentine's Day, get you chocolates, a plushie of your favourite animal, and maybe a little dinner somewhere.

He'd like Halloween too, but dress up minimally if at all, rather enjoying seeing you all dressed up and going the whole nine yards. He would wear matching outfits for you if you asked him to, though.

Overall, Takumi would be a really great boyfriend. Definitely husband material.

long post of my analysis of gender, tropes, and the musical be more chill ahead

so. i'm going to start with the wider overarching ideas of teen romcoms. im mostly thinking the mean girls/princess diaries/that sort of movie. early 2000s kind of cheesy kind of problematic at points but still having that nostalgia.

in most of these sort of movies, theres a very structured plot. the lead girl is an outcast, a weirdo. she's either childish or unattractive or a nerd or a loner. she frequently has a best friend (or a few) who are somehow more of insert "undesirable" trait here. usually, this best friend is also more eccentric, more outwardly strange, rejects the idea of the popularity.

the lead girl also has a crush on a guy who's unattainable, he's interesting to her, she's never talked to him a day in her life but she swoons over him. she's in love with the idea of A Boy. (and frequently, the guy has caught the attention of a popular girl who functions as her rival, whos prettier, and better liked, and has more of the traits the main girl desires.) she sees her male crush with the popular girl and loses hope.

the lead girl gets a chance to change her life- maybe she's noticed by a popular girl- who offers her a chance to be something else for seemingly arbitrary reasons. through this, she gets a makeover, a way to be as pretty as the girl shes a rival of. she also lies or embellishes herself to be attractive to people around her, especially the guy she likes.

the girl climbs the social ladder, she gains the attention of the popular boys and the romance she's been craving. she's desirable now. (and sometimes shes desirable in ways that aren't good for her, sometimes shes used as a way to show off or make people jealous, not for her, but for what she's become). she goes to a party that goes horribly wrong. her quirky weird best friend blows up at her.

the main girl also sees the intricacies of people she's never thought to have flaws, to have issues. even the girl who she's competing over a guy with. she realizes that idealizing people who are just like her, deep down, doesn't work. she hits rock bottom, loses everything, and then has to forcefully gain it back, make things right, and then she gets the guy at the end.

every single one of those plot points happens in be more chill, but everything is genderflipped. the main girl becomes jeremy, an insecure guy, making the narrative more about toxic masculinity than toxic femininity. the insults are about jeremy's looks, yes, but more prominently about his sexuality- something that men are traditionally a lot more insecure about than women, in most cases. he's a hopeless romantic. he's insecure. he's awkward and anxious. he's all the traits of a traditional teen movie romcom protagonist, but male.

the quirky girl best friend becomes michael, whos the outgoing, exuberant, eccentric friend. he's at a different place in his life than jeremy, whos fixated on popularity. he gets upset when his friend changes and leaves him behind.

the Male Love Interest becomes christine- unattainable but excitable. she's more than just a hunk for the main lead to be attracted to, but she serves the purpose of getting jeremy out of his comfort zone.

the popular girls become two separate archetypes of maleness, with jake and rich. jake takes on the romantic lead- popular, cool, athletic, effortlessly attractive, and the rival of the lead for the romantic attraction of the love interest. he's still operating under toxic masculinity. he lashes out with anger, he's not kind at times, he's seen as unintelligent.

rich takes on the almost gretchen-weiners-esque "popular girl" role. he's still popular and cool, but he's almost trying too hard. he's just as angry and aggressive, he's trying hard to be something he's not. he's also the one whos an analog for queerness, which is an interesting flip- think the "its like you're in love with me or something" bit from mean girls. he's the one who offers jeremy a chance for something different, a do-over.

the squip, while not a direct analog for anything in traditional romcom movies (since its kind of a nebulous. scifi concept) stands in for the literal themes of these sorts of stories. its toxic masculinity, its popularity, its the voice in your head telling you to tear others down, to pry out information, to push your way to the top.

the popular girls are particularly interesting, because as individuals, they kind of mess around with everything a bit. while everything else has been pretty cut and dry, they're all a mix of a bunch of things. they serve the roles of the popular guys in these sorts of scenarios while being very stereotypically feminine.

chloe is the mean girl, the leader of the pack. in teen movies, she'd be the star quarterback, the ex of the romantic rival, the one who is the peak of toxic masculinity- which the musical flips to make about toxic femininity with her (and brooke.)

the next paragraph is going to talk about Do You Wanna Hang and touch on SA, if you don't want to read it, skip to the next italicized section.

chloe also functions as something all too common in teen movies. she pushes jeremy into a sexual encounter he doesn't want to be in. she's not even interesting in him, as a person, but him as an object, something usually reserved for women in fiction. she does it as a power play, a way to get back at other people. she attacks his looks, his attitude, and this is when the downsides of "being popular" start to reveal themselves. (side note, this is an INCREDIBLY problematic trope to me, especially in its original form, because it enhances the idea of "if youre attractive you want this" type deal. a what were you wearing sort of attitude towards sexual assault. instead of treating it like a tragedy, its almost a status symbol.) and because the main character is a male- its never addressed further. its brought up in a singular line between the popular "guy" stand-ins.

brooke is also intriguing, because shes one of the only characters in this concept that doesn't seem to have a direct parallel. if i'd have to give her something, i'd probably mark her down as the male sidekick to the popular guy, the one who doesn't get anything other than being the best friend. but she does get something, by virtue of her being a girl now. she's a viable love interest, or at least a status symbol.

jenna falls into a similar category to me- a character who only serves to bolster the reputation of the main character. she takes on the role of information spreader, which is a traditionally feminine role.

i could also talk about how i think that its interesting that while most of the actions in be more chill that are given to people of opposite genders (e.g. romantic rival, call to popularity, quirky best friend, the Do You Wanna Hang problem) the MOTIVATIONS for the actions are still aligning with the gender of the characters. like, rather than the gender of the original trope. if that makes sense.

anyways i scrolled back and realized i had like 10 paragraphs im gonna stop now but. yeah. gender in bmc is fascinating to me

Once a month (at least) family trip are a must, It started with Ultear dragging Lyon places during the 7 year gap but it started being a more regular thing when Gray turned back up

the first couple time they tried to do things together, it was a disaster

they werent familiar with each other and were hella awkward

Also, when Lyon & Ultear would mention to Gray they were coming into town, he would try to convince the team to go on an impromptu job

they’ve since learned to warn Erza of their arrival so he cant leave

‘abt to come into town, do not let that mf leave’

Grays probably walked into the guild to see one or both of them and turned right back around

The first time the showed up when Gray wasnt around they got a shovel-esque talk

it was terrifying and also confusing considering they think of themselves as his siblings so shouldnt they be giving those talks?

Ultear really embraces her oldest sibling role and pays for practically everything they do together

While Gray will try to avoid in person outings, he will blow up their phones (lacrima devices, whatever) at all hours of the night

Lyon probably has a 16 step skin care routine that he tries to nag the other two into trying it

its a fools quest tbh

They argue. so much. cannot do anything together without a disagreement. they probably have fist fought each other too

They are fiercely protective of one another, they can be pretty subtle about it but its clear as day to anyone who even slightly crosses them

They as a whole have a gambling/betting problem

They have run their pockets dry with it

They have been kicked out of multiple restaurants for being too loud

Gray tells them off-handedly abt the jobs and events he went through while growing up in Fairy Tail and they just sit back and listen in horrified fascination

however! they have soooo many candid ones, Gray glared and complained when he found out (but he has half of them framed or saved on his phone)

been struggling to design the voices and feeling a bit miserable over it 😔

i dont have any ideas for broken, cheated, oppy, hunted, and skeptic aside from what type of bird they are (and even then, im starting to think that i should change broken's bird). any ideas i come up with have already been done to death so i shoot them down everytime. nothings wrong with being inspired but smitten's inspiration isnt very obvious so i think the other voices shouldnt be so obvious too. ah but im confident that smitten is my best voice design even if i complete them all so maybe its not fair to make him the standard..

as for broken and hero, they look so off. i drew them once (thrice for broken, actually) and got so frustrated that i abandoned the wip. they just. didnt look like broken and hero. my art satisfies me first and foremost so if it doesnt please me, no one else gets to see it

i do have ideas for para and stubborn. theyre the clearest in my head right now but im scared to tackle them 😭 stubborn's image was even clearer than smitten actually but i chose to work on smitten first because stubborn is a rooster. roosters are colorful. how do i simplify that. and hes Stubborn hes supposed to be buff and big and all that so im out of my comfort zone...

this has just turned into me rambling about the design process huh. let me talk about cold then. he just Happened. well no, i sketched a two whole pages of herons as preparation for his design but they looked so bad. i asked my classmates if they recognized the bird and one of them said flamingo.

anyway his design just Happened when i did that drawing where he and smitten beak kiss. i didnt really think of how to make his design till i was already drawing him. thats why hes just. a heron. with a scarf (havent drawn that yet) and two long ear tuffs. thats it. no other identifying features like smitten. hes rather uninspired so i wanted to improve his design but nothing came into mind (except for the scarf). well, no i did think of a veil or a mask or a hat but his head is ridiculously tiny so thats impractical. besides, i like him as it is and others seem to like him too? so theres that.

im most satisfied with smitten, contra, and the narrator's designs :) smitten is my prized jewel at this point. he underwent almost the same process as cold except i was way more prepared for him. he formed in my head 75% complete lol though you can spot clear differences between my first sketches of him and his most recent design. the beak kiss drawing was also the first time i "realized" his design. he has had super minor revisions since then but his core remains unchanged. im pretty satisfied with him, i dont think he'll change anymore.

contra 🥰 i like him as he is but im adding cheeks (like a cockatiel! i dont have to be that species-accurate) and some curls on his head. i actually wanted to add those details in the one piece i made with him but i couldnt figure it out then... probably bc i made his head too big 💀

the narrator is pretty simple. i married the mirror and corvid narrator hcs for his design bc while i personally subscribe to the mirror!narra hc, i cant just make him a mirror??? so now hes a black cracked glass raven Thing who holds a piece of white paper and feather :) unlike the voices, he doesnt have arms so he uses his wings to write instead. he also doesnt stand upright. hes the most Bird out of everyone to make it clear that he doesnt belong 😍 i drew him once but i hope to make a reference sheet for him soon bc it really should be simple..

side note: colors are important! i try not to apply too much white or black unless it makes sense for the character. ideally, the voices wouldnt have white or black on them but well. its unavoidable. birds often have black or white on them.

the narrator is a black raven and the only things that are white on him are the cracks (death) and his writing implements. hero is purely black and clothing provide the only pops of color on him. smitten and broken regrettably have a lot of white on their belly but im sure i can spin some bullshit explanation like "white around their hearts bc they love the princess (represented by white) ❤️".

lots of white on contra but that makes sense. i also refrained from making him a sulfur-crested cockatoo though bc theyre almost entirely white. no white on cold at all, sadly. white would make so much sense on him bc change is what he seeks (same reason why contra has a lot of white) so maybe i shouldve made him some other white heron instead.. or a crane. but cranes represent life.. ah whatever. i like him as he is right now.

...my takeaway from my rambling is that i should work on para's design. ive got a clear-ish idea for him

HI HELLO I HAVE A QUESTION! Where are the strawhats in your vamp au? Do they know Luffy is with Doffy?

they're looking after him! they suspect it's mingo's fault he disappeared but they're not 100% sure if luffy's with him!

also have a quick timeline because i haven't given one, the au is very much a wip so only the published fic for now is canon but that's the idea for now:

→ luffy gets turned on dressrosa -> regroup on Zou, plan for to take down Kaido postponed for now -> Whole Cake Island goes similar to canon but oh the horrors -> submarine trip (what i'm currently working on EDIT: more art here and here , also the fic)

-> ??? zone, more the hearts & strawhats interactions, luffy's & mingo's brains keeps on melting together every now and then, stuff, they do go to Wano now?

-> during the party after freeing Wano luffy disappears without anyone's notice, plot twist, mingo was around to discuss with his business partner and managed to get away alive (law's plan failed through and through).

plot twist #2 the reason luffy isn't bloodthristy for ppl's blood is because mingo fucked up when ordering/compelling him to drink his blood while turning him, now he only feel actual bloodthirst for his blood. this is also why he never feels satisfied, his body is fine with the blood he drinks but his mind keeps going "we still need more blood" because it isn't the right blood.

this means he finally acts like an actual bloodthirsty newborn vampire when he's around mingo and looses his shit, this also means he's finally perfectly fine and well and sane for real after feeding on him and after months of what he had to go through relief isn't strong enough of a word to describe how he feels, so he goes with him.

mingo can end his command, have luffy be able to drink anyone's else blood and be satisfied, but doesn't.

(there's also mindlink reasons & mingo being a master manipulator ect ect that'll be partly revealed once im done with that damn submarine horror oneshot.)

-> now that they're together it's a lot easier to function, doesn't mean it's easy to coexist tho, mingo decides to go visit Cross Guild and maybe get a new business going on.

again this could all change to smth completely different any time but that's the general idea for now!

this is just for me but i wanted to consider how the nine sols cast would be like in a fighting game because ive had the idea in my neuron chamber for a while now and need to put it into words so yea

first of all i think the cast would work best in a 2D anime fighter because:

-it fits the art style

-most have some unique abilities or fighting styles. for example yi’s qi blade and talismans and ji’s black holes

-multiple characters float or fly which you usually dont see in games like street fighter (ignore dhalsim he doesnt count for his one). the mechanic is way more common in anime fighters where characters usually have double jumps and an air dash (literally yi)

-i want it to be because i said so

-also the character designs fit way more in an anime fighter in my opinion

with that out of the way i have some ideas for the casts character archetypes and movesets so um strap in or something

Ji: ji is the one ive been thinking the most about (go figure) so i'm starting with them. i imagine him playing like a zoner/setplay character because of his daggers and the whole thing about changing attacks by parrying the spinny orbs. they should have a teleport and the ability to fly while throwing projectiles to embody the theme of calculating the enemy's every move and avoiding them. because of this he should obviously have a small health bar to compensate for the mobility and good keepaway tools. im thinking they can throw daggers at multiple angles with differing properties. maybe by pressing different buttons the daggers can come from the ground, rebound if they miss the opponent or let ji teleport the them and do an attack like they do in their boss fight. he could also have access to a stance that let them choose different attacks. maybe by inputting a move they get a choice between 3 options. for example:

-one could be his dagger state where they float into the air and start throwing out dagger like crazy. he could get to choose different directions for the daggers as he inputs the move to mix the opponent up by forcing them to block projectiles from all different angles

-one could be his black hole. maybe they place it at a spot which vacuums the enemy. either it drags them to the center instantly and gives ji an opportunity to mix them up or it drags them in for a while and lets ji throw daggers to apply pressure

-the pulsating gadget thingy that makes large red waves could be a destroyable interactable that launches waves that force the opponent to block or try to disarm it before they get cornered. since it's deployed and stays on the battlefield i think it wouldn't disappear if ji gets hit, so he could use it as a tool to get in on the opponent

-one could be the daggers which i imagine just buffs their damage or increases the amount that ji can have on screen at a time additionally they could start to apply guard crush

-the one where he throws a little container with health or azure sand might work as an item both players can pick up. either they restore health or meter depending on if it's green or blue

their normals would probably either be stubby or slow considering his only melee weapon is his big mace thing. maybe they have one or two good normals for zoning. for defence i think ji should have a parry because in my mind that just seems perfect for a diviner to have. predicting the opponent's every actions and when they finally land a hit on him, surprise !! ji vanishes and counters with an attack of their own. i had this idea for a parry where instead of just using the move and counterattacking if you get hit during it, you would first input the move which puts you in a state where you then input a prediction of what move the opponent will do and if you're correct, ji dodges the move and lets you punish it similar to anji's spin in guilty gear strive.

needless to say i would absolutely play this character i want it to be real i want it to be real i wa-

Goumang: another character i thought could be very unique and cool in a fighting game. to me it's obvious she would be a puppet character since she doesn't fight by herself (like she's a farmer give her a break) and instead fights with her jiangshi soldiers (who are named Shinue and Shiqui i just learned). she would be able to fly of course and claw at the opponent with good mobility and aerial buttons.

all her special moves would control shinue and shiqui and let them do their attacks in tandem. maybe their attacks would be bound to two buttons each. shinue could get the lighter kick and punch buttons while shiqui gets the buttons for heavier attacks so they could be inputted separately and lock the opponent down. this would probably be bound to a meter that goumang could recharge by ringing her bell. doing this would be unsafe and thus only really an option after getting a hard knockdown or when you're fullscreen from your opponent. it would be funny if she had a super where she gave her jiangshi soldiers bowls of rice to power them up and stop their meter (idk what to call it. the servant gauge or something maybe?) from depleting. i also imagine her having a command grab super where she grabs an airborne opponent, digs her claws into them and throws them to her soldiers to get beat up.

i'm pretty sure this would be oppressive as peck (get it?.. like heck but peck.. because she's a bird..) so in return for this incredible offense, she probably would lack any strong defensive options like an invincible reversal, but maybe her servants could rush to her aid whenever she is blocking or something. she would probably be quite bad on her own when her servants are knocked out which is pretty fitting since, again, she's not really a fighter

Shennong: i thought it would be funny if shennong was a fighter because we've obviously never seen him fight. (he did defend the apemen of peach blossom village that one time so clearly he can hold his own to a degree). he strikes me as a brawler type character who wants to get up close to his opponent and beat the snot out of them, but doesn't have good mobility or range. maybe he has a special move where he consumes a random poison that grants him buffs to different stats. who knows, perhaps eating a plantago frog increases your speed and jump height or maybe a dragon's whip hightens damage for a duration of time. it could work similarily to jamie's drink in street fighter 6 where the buff stays for the whole match and he slowly ramps up in power until he's an unstoppable beast. there could be a chance of eating a rare poison like the golden yinglong egg that give his attacks super armor or just buff all his stats at once.

it would also be funny if, whenever shennong is fighting, shuanshuan is following him around to cheer him on. i can imagine one of his victory animations is him acting bashful while shuanshuan is shouting compliments, being all impressed and whatnot.

anyway that was my fighting game hyperfixationfueled rant now go drink water and pet a dog, doesnt matter if its yours or not
