Did You Know? - A Request from @wax-birds
Summary: You've been the Batch's medic since well before the Jedi Purge happens, and it just made sense to stick with them when they defected. Recently, Tech's been going out of his way to tell you random facts, and at first you were confused, but you're starting to understand what his game is.
Pairing: TBB Tech x F!Reader
Word Count: 1618
Warnings: None
Tagging: @trixie2023 @n0vqni
A/N: I hope this is close to what you wanted. I made up the planet, but I think the bird is an actual thing in the Star Wars verse...I didn't actually do any research, lol.
Tumblr media
“Did you know,” You lift your gaze from your datapad to look at Tech, who’s standing awkwardly in the door to your area of the marauder, “the Morai birds mate for life and should their mate pass they remain in the nest waiting for them to return.”
“I…was not aware of that.” You say, “I also didn’t know that you were interested in the mating practices of birds.”
“Ah, well,” He nervously rubs the back of his neck, “I am interested in a wide range of topics.”
Amusement lifts your lips into a smile, “And your fixation for the week is birds?” You tease very gently.
“They are very brightly colored.” Tech offers, “And are native to the planet we are about to visit.” He hesitates, “And I remembered that you have a Morai tattoo.”
“Aww, Tech.” You clasp your hands under your chin, “You’re sweet, learning things about my favorite animals simply because they’re my favorite.”
“I…well, not solely for you. Omega had questions-”
“I DID NOT!” Omega shouts from the next room.
Tech ignores her with the long practice of an older brother, “And then I remembered your tattoo-”
Omega appears next to him, her face is scrunched up, “Stop lying! You looked that stuff up specifically-mmph!” Tech slaps his hand over Omega’s mouth, stopping her from talking.
“Thank you, Omega.”
Your gaze flickers from the annoyed preteen, to Tech, and then back again. “Well then, if neither of you are injured, I need to get back to work.”
Omega pulls Tech’s hand away from her mouth, Tech just hit me!”
“I did no such thing.”
“I have bruises!”
“You do not.”
“I want you to arrest him!” Omega declares dramatically as she points at her brother.
“I’m a medic, Meg, not a cop.” You reply with a small grin, “You want someone to punish him for hitting you, go to Hunter.”
“Maybe I will!” Omega says loudly, before she rounds on her heel, “Hunter!”
“Why would you tell her that?” Tech asks with a sigh.
You wink at him, “Well, if you get hurt, it means that you get one on one attention, doesn’t that sound fun?”
Tech averts his eyes, but a small smile lifts the corner of his lips, “I suppose it does not sound…awful.” He finally says as he catches your gaze, for a moment, just a moment, there’s something hot and needy in his gaze, before it’s quickly banked, and he turns away from you. “I will leave you to your work. We will be landing on Mora in three days.”
You know your eyes weren’t playing tricks on you. You know what you saw. And you are very, very interested.
And so you flash a small smile, even as a plan starts forming in your mind, “I’ll be ready.”
Tech glances at you one more time, and then slips out of your workspace just as Hunter shouts for him, and you muffle your laugh. Sometimes, a lot of times, the men you travel with are so obviously brothers that it’s hilarious.
In fact, you’re pretty sure you heard Echo and Wrecker arguing over Wrecker stealing some of Echo’s snacks only a little bit ago.
Still, you wouldn’t trade this job for any other medical career in the galaxy.
After all, where else would an incredibly handsome man flirt with you using bird facts?
Tumblr media
Three days later, the Marauder lands on Mora, and you, with your medical kit slung over your shoulder, and your camera in hand, couldn’t be more excited.
“Alright,” Hunter says, getting everyone’s attention. “It looks like we have five different places we need to visit.”
“It’ll be faster if we split up,” You offer reasonably, “Using the buddy system, of course.” You add once you see the look on Hunter’s face. “And naturally, I won’t be paired off with Omega, since we’re both harmless.”
“I have a crossbow,” Omega reminds you with a pout.
“Ah, right. My mistake.”
“So that means you’re the only one here who’s harmless.” Echo teases as he bumps you with his shoulder.
“Yeah, well…before all else, do no harm, etc, etc-” You reply with a grin, as you bump him right back.
“Anyway,” Hunter interrupts, “Splitting up and using the buddy system isn’t a terrible idea. I’ll go with Omega. Tech-”
“I do not mind going with the doctor,” He interrupts, “As I understand, one of these locations has medical equipment she needs to inspect.”
Hunter looks at him, disbelievingly.
“It’s not a bad idea,” You offer cheerfully, “If anything is broken, I might not notice right away.”
Hunter turns his disbelieving gaze on you next, and you just beam at him.
“Fine. Tech and the Doc are going together. Which leaves Echo and Wrecker.” Hunter says, “Any complaints? Good. Omega, come on.”
You grin as the other groups walk off in different directions, and then you turn your gaze on Tech, who’s watching you with a small smile on his lips, “Shall we?” You ask.
“It should not take that long to get the equipment that we need.” He agrees, as he turns in the direction of the shop, and then waits for you to fall into step next to him.
“It shouldn’t,” You agree, “The longest part will really be you making sure that the equipment looks like it’s in working order.”
He glances at you, “You really would not be able to determine if the gear was in working order?”
“Of course I’d be able to tell. I just wanted to spend time with you.” You reply with an unrepentant grin.
“O-oh.”
You cheerfully take his hand in yours and you lace your fingers with his, “Anyway, once we have the stuff delivered to the ship, we can look around on our own. I need a new jacket.”
Tech is staring at your joined hands, as if he’s not sure what to make of it, and then he slowly squeezes your hand, and is rewarded with a blinding grin. The moment he realizes that it’s intentional, some of the nervous tension drains from him. “Is there something wrong with your jacket?”
“Well…no. Not really.” You shrug, “It just doesn’t match.”
“...What does it not match?”
You sigh, “You and your brothers. My leather jacket is white! It needs to be darker so I actually look like I belong.”
“You do belong.” Tech says, “You are the most important member of the squad.”
“We both know that’s not true.” You say with a laugh.
“It is true,” Tech insists, “We would be lost several times over without you.”
“Aww, you’re sweet.”
“I am honest.” Tech replies, “You have saved all of our lives on many occasions. We owe you everything.” He pauses, “And I prefer it when you wear white. It makes it easier to see you on the battlefield.”
“That’s not necessarily a good thing.” You point out as the pair of you come to a stop in front of the shop that’s holding the medical equipment that you need to look at.
Tech doesn’t reply right away as he enters the shop, “I think you look nice in white.” He finally says and then he turns his attention towards the shopkeeper and offers the name on the order.
Inspecting the machines takes a lot longer than you would prefer. A lot longer than Tech would prefer too, based on the look on his face, but there’s no way around it. Cid would have your heads if any of the machines were damaged in any way.
But finally, finally, you’re able to confirm the delivery, and you slump against Tech, exhausted. “This is the worst job ever.” You whine.
Tech glances at you, “Well, we are done now.”
“Until Cid gives us another job.” You grumble, and then you lay your cheek against his shoulder, “We used to fight for the good of the Republic, this work is demeaning.”
“But Cid does pay us,” Tech reminds you quietly, “Which is what we need.”
You hum thoughtfully, “Yeah, I guess.”
You take his hand again, and then tug him away from the shop. “Where are we going?” Tech asks, though he doesn’t seem to have any problems with trailing after you.
You just grin at him, and tug him down an alley. “I wanted to go somewhere private.” You reply once you’re not surrounded by people.
“For what purpose?” Tech asks.
“For this one.” You stand on your toes and brush your lips against his, before you pull away, “I don’t know if maybe I’m misreading things-” You murmur, though you’re not able to finish your sentence, as he tugs you against him and crashes his lips against yours.
One of his hands slides up into your hair, while the other tightly grips your hips, pulling you as close as he can. And when he breaks the kiss, his lips hovering just over yours, you can’t help but grin, “I take it I wasn’t misreading then?” You ask.
“I do not think you ever have.” Tech admits.
“Go me,” Your smile is soft and warm, “Hey, Tech?”
“Hm?”
“Did you know that I think about you all the time?” He blinks at you, startled, “And that I would be really, really happy if you loved me as much as I love you?”
“And here I thought that I was being obvious.” Tech murmurs, before he kisses you again and again, “Of course I feel the same way. Or else I would not be kissing you.”
You grin and lightly kiss him again.
“Did you know,” Tech says quietly, “That I think about you all of the time too?”
At that a bubbly laugh falls from your lips, “I do now.”

If you're taking requests, because I truly adore how you write, could you ever do something for Sevika and her ex-girlfriend? Maybe they really haven't gotten over each other after a few years and they still bicker and get jealous over each other, maybe something nsfw happens too. If you don't like the request, feel completely free to ignore it ♡
It’s so nice to hear that you like the way I write! 💕 And a perfect way to get me to write your request lol, compliments work really well on me. I’m not sure whether you wanted an Sevika x OC fic or Sevika x reader so I’m gonna go with x reader because that’s what I’m used to writing!
Sorry if it’s not as good as my other works, it’s really hot where I live rn and my brain is a bit foggy. Also somehow I wrote 1.9k instead of the 500 words I was going for. Lucky you.
My request are semi-open, if you have any fun ideas feel free to leave me an ask and I might write something for it if I have the time and inspiration. I'm gonna assume requests are sfw unless specified otherwise!
Tags: nsfw: mdni please. mean Sevika, jealousy, angry sex, fingering (reader receiving).

Infuriating
Tumblr media
It’s one of those days again: cocktail night with all of Silco’s associates. Every once in a while, he rents out a place to invite everyone he wants to keep on his good side. A necessary evil, or so he says. On the surface it seems fun, but look a little closer and it’s all just one big, corrupt power game. If he didn’t insist you’d be there every time, you probably wouldn’t even bother to show up.
The air in the room felt thick with cigarette and cigar smoke, making you feel overwhelmed and disoriented. People surround you as you tried to locate a corner in the room where it was a little less crowded.
“Hey, having a good time? Can I get you a drink?” you suddenly hear a woman’s voice say as you noticed someone had walked up beside you. She had long, black hair, was wearing a tight blue dress and was adorned from tip to toe in fancy jewelry. Her dark brown eyes fixated on yours, she was waiting for a response from you.
Feeling flattered, you smiled and nodded at her.
“I’ll get you something nice. Save a spot at that table for me, would you?” she said flirtingly as she pointed to a table behind you. She winked at you before you watched her make her way to the bar. Like she had asked, you stood at the table and waited for her.
“She is so not your type.” you heard another voice say to your left. One a lot more familiar.
“I think I can decide that for myself, Sev.” you replied, annoyed at the sudden intrusion of the one person you really didn’t feel like chatting with tonight.
“Figures. Being decisive was never your strongest suit.” she taunted. Was she trying to pick a fight?
Sure, your breakup years ago had been messy. No, it wasn’t all her fault. Yes, you lost a good thing you had together, but you always figured you two had never really been meant to last. And yet, it seemed like as long you were in the undercity, you just couldn’t get away from her. In one way or another, you always found her again in the most random of places and situations, often resulting in bickering and petty arguments. Tonight seemed to be no different.
The woman from earlier returned with two drinks, one for herself and one for you. But when she noticed Sevika looming in the corner beside you, she seemed to hesitate.
“Oh.. I’m sorry.. am I interrupt- I think I’ll just..” she said nervously as she glanced back between you and Sevika, who was obviously scaring her off with her death stare.
“No, it’s fine, we’re not together.” you tried to diffuse, but the woman didn’t seem convinced.
“I really don’t want to intrude. Sorry..” she said before quickly making her way to the other side of the room, depriving you of the drink you were actually really looking forward to.
“Great. Thanks.” you said as you turned around and glared at Sevika. “There goes my once chance of having a nice evening. Happy now?”
“Just saving you the trouble. Like I said, she’s not your type.” she scoffed before lighting a cigarillo and blowing a few puffs of smoke your way, which you angrily fanned away.
“Like, what, maybe she’s yours? As far as I’m concerned, you don’t really have a type. It’s always been quantity over quality at the brothel with you.” you grumbled.
“Jealous?” she mocked. “I’ll talk to Babette, see if she’s hiring.”
So fucking annoying. She always knew how to get right under your skin. Eager to get some kind of revenge on her for scaring your flirt away, you considered your options. Empty her drink over her head? No, that’s uncivilized. Violence wasn’t your style either. Instead, in a move that was a whole lot more friendly, you reached your hand out and gestured for Sevika to hand you her cigarillo.
“Fuck you too. Let me have some.” you said as you angrily stared at her.
With surprisingly little hesitation, Sevika took the cigarillo out of her mouth and handed it to you, but not before making you reach for it a bit first. You took a few puffs, maintaining eye contact with her as you did. Even though you were still angry with her, you couldn’t help but feel some of your old feelings for her bubble up to the surface again as you looked at her. Things between you two had been amazing and intense while you were still together. A feeling you really missed from time to time. A feeling that made you doubt whether or not you had tried hard enough to fix it at the time. The constant bickering you went through together now didn’t motivate you to really try and patch things up, though. She was irritating, infuriating even. And yet. You wondered. What if it had worked out?
You took the cigarillo out of your mouth again, twirling it between your fingers for a second before you reached out to hand it back to Sevika again. But instead of handing it to her, you intentionally dropped it right into the drink she was holding.
"Oh. Oops."
Shocked, she dropped the glass right on the floor, shattering the thing into a million pieces and spilling liquor everywhere. And now, Sevika looked fucking furious.
“Alright, you little fucking-“ she growled, but she was cut off by Silco, who had noticed the rising tension and had made his way over to you both.
“That’s enough.” he hissed. “I told you to stay professional.”
Sevika gave him a death glare but didn’t reply, now realizing that she may have fucked up a bit. Silco pointed to a door nearby.
“Outside, now. Come back when you’ve cooled off.” he then turned to face you as well. “You too. Out.”
Not eager to challenge your boss and risk getting on his bad side, you complied and made your way over to the door. Sevika followed closely behind you, heavy footsteps revealing her anger.
“Like fucking schoolkids getting detention.” you grumbled as you pushed open the door. “You’re sure as hell as immature as one, Sev. And you’re- wait, this isn’t..”
“Move.” Sevika groaned as she pushed you forward into the room, almost knocking you over in the process. She quickly realized as well that this door didn’t lead outside.
“Side room.” she ascertained. “Not the exit. Dumbass.”
“No shit, sherlock. And cut it out with the insults.” you snapped.
“That last one was for Silco, not you.”
“For once.”
“So quit assuming everything is about you all the time.”
You sighed in frustration. It wasn’t uncommon for her to be mean to you, but tonight felt a little different from her usual verbal attacks. As if you had really struck a nerve with her.
“Why do you hate me so much?” you asked.
“I could give you a list.” she grumbled as she looked around the room for another exit, to no avail.
“I’m serious, Sev. What the hell happened?”
She sighed. “We’ve been over this. We didn’t work, end of story.”
“You used to like me.” you muttered. “I used to like you. Love you, even. Then it all went to shit and for what? Why?”
You watched Sevika as she was stood with her back towards you. Her shoulders were tense, her whole body looked stiff. The shimmer in her metal arm briefly started to kick in, but went away before it could send her into a frenzy. Then all of a sudden, she turned around and stormed towards you, only stopping when she was right in front of you. She loomed over you like a tower.
“You want me back so bad, is that it?” she hissed.
“I want to know why.” you said quietly, trying desperately to keep back your tears. “You never.. we never talked about why it went to shit. I want to understand.”
“I liked you better when you listened to me.”
“Sev, please, I just..”
She grabbed you by the jaw with her metal hand, squeezing forcefully but not hard enough to really hurt.
“Shut up. You want it to be like the ‘good old days’ again?” she growled, bringing her face close to yours.
Even though you were still angry, the urge to kiss her was greater. But once she noticed you leaning in, she moved her hand from your jaw to the back of your head to grab a fistful of your hair. She pushed you back into the now closed door behind you, effectively immobilizing your head to where her hand was.
“So fucking desperate.” she muttered under her breath as her other hand made it’s way to one of your thighs. “I remember you used to beg for it.”
“Then.. please?”
The look in her eyes still screamed fury, but behind the angry façade you could see that there was more to it. You had gotten to know her well during your time together. You could see something you didn’t quite recognize, not just yet. Lust? Jealousy? Regret?
Her grip on your hair forced you to keep eye contact with her. Without any further hesitation, Sevika moved her hand up from your thigh, straight into your underwear. Knowing there were probably people behind the door Sevika had forced you against, you struggled to keep yourself from moaning out loud.
She effortlessly found your sweet spot like she always did when you were still together. As if you had never broken up in the first place. Her movements were rough but precise, keeping you exactly where she wanted you, touching you exactly where she wanted to.
“Oh, god..” you gasped as you felt one of her fingers brush over your entrance before she roughly shoved it inside you.
“Try not to let the whole room hear you.” she sneered, pushing a second finger inside of you. “Or do. See if I care.”
“Fuck you, Sev.”
“You wish.”
“Oh, you- ah! Fuck.. fuck me.” you moaned as Sevika curled her fingers inside of you, continuing to roughly move in and out of you. Your pleas seemed to motivate her as much as they seemed to be pissing her off.
You gripped her arm tightly as she continued to fuck you against the door, surely making enough noise by now that people on the other side of it could hear something was going on. She kept her eyes on you the whole time, the look of anger mixed with unknown, messy feelings in her eyes unwavering. Maybe it had been the lack of intimacy in your life lately, maybe you had just really missed her despite all the harsh words spoken between you, but she knew exactly how you liked to be touched and she could definitely feel you were getting close. As she slowly but steadily pushed you over the edge, she moved her metal hand from the back of your head to your mouth to muffle your increasingly loud moans as you came.
You felt your legs turn to jelly but Sevika’s hand was still underneath you, keeping you upright. She briefly let you ride it out before she removed her hand from your underwear as quickly as it had found its way in. She leaned back in close you your face, your mouth still covered by her metal hand.
“Whore.” she hissed before removing her metal hand from your face.
She pushed you aside, opened the door and walked out. The door fell shut behind her. Still trying to catch your breath and compose yourself, you rested your back against the closed door again and slowly slid down onto the floor. Your eyes filled with tears as you processed what just happened. You finally got the courage to ask and she didn’t even tell you. Tell you why you ended up like this.

Notes: angry sex, sure! But I do need to sprinkle some explicit ✨consent✨ in to feel comfortable with it. I feel like this could use a continuation. Anyone interested in that? Let me know. Poor y/n’s having a hard time.

Thank you for tagging me @meitanteisachi 🤗✨
Name: Aina (not real name but call me this anyways!)
Gender: Female
Star sign: Aries
Height: 5’8 (Few years ago one day I came home from uni for a break I was like, dear my youngest brother by about 8 years, I love you very much but please stop growing so much taller than me! You’re not even 15 yet! 😂😂😂😭😭)
Phone wallpaper: the default iPhone wallpaper, the swirly half ball thing (shut up its soothing ok!)
Ever crush on a teacher: Nah. Unless you count Aizawa Shouta maybe?😅 😂
Coolest Halloween costume: I don’t really wear that. I used to wear one a long time ago but don’t remember. The coolest one I’ve had was a scary mask and a scary hat 🤷🏻‍♀️
Last kiss: Uh, does kisses on the cheek count? No? Then no. Unless you count the one time a boy kissed me on the lips when I was like uh... 10? 🤷🏻‍♀️ (No, I don’t have and never had a boyfriend, leave me alone 😩. Yes, I want one but who? How? 🤦🏻‍♀️)
Ever been stood up: Again, no boyfriend so no. Unless you count the few times friends did, but they were unintentional and didn’t hurt my feelings, so no.
Favourite pair of shoes: Anything so long as they’re comfortable. Mostly sneakers and sport shoes. 👟 (most recently I’ve come to like wearing these shoes that are a bit higher cuz I like to feel a bit taller)
Ever been to Vegas: No. The closest I’ve ever been to was in New York on a Uni trip. Want to go one day tho. Maybe. Possibly. If I ever have money lol 😂
Favourite book: Don’t really have any favourites at the mo. (I really should start reading published books and not the fanfics cuz I read that all the time 😂). But my favourites when I was younger was any of the books by Michael Morpurgo that I’ve read, particularly Alone on a Wide Wide Sea which was my first book that I used to carry around with me and read on the way home from school (I learnt the ‘London Bridge is Falling Down’ lyrics from this one, and it’s been stuck in my head ever since 😂), and I’m also particularly fond of Private Peaceful and War Horse, they’re so painfully beautiful 😭. Plus a few ‘Stardust’ series by Linda Chapman. It was my favourite then, but not my favourite now. I’m fond of it yes, but when I bought the first book last May 2020 and decided to try reading it after a looong time, I did so. And after finishing it I think I was like, ‘👀... it’s so damn short and unsatisfying 👀’ 😅😂. Oh! I almost forgot! One of a current favourite of mine is Mind Blind by Lari Don! I saw it at a book shop like 4 years ago and, being curious, went to a random page and read a sentence or two, I became interested and bought it right then and there. It’s really interesting! 🙌🏻 (sorry it’s damn long 😂)
Stupid thing you ever done: There are lots of stupid things I’ve done but I don’t remember most of them from the top of my head🤦🏻‍♀️ like, I need to think. So sorry! 😅 Ah, there was one time but it brings bad memories so I don’t wanna talk about that 🙅🏻‍♀️. Ah! Not sure if it counts but there was another time where a lecturer asked if we (my coursemates and I) wanted to come over and help out one of his friends with the children at a kindergarten (or was it primary school?). And I misunderstood it as a location shoot and thought it was a mandatory thing and brought with me a bag full of camera and lenses and laptop (it was so heavy lol, and he never said to bring them lol). Upon arriving at the destination, my coursemates didn’t have those big bags and I was the only one who brought it. I realised that when my lecturer said ‘help out’, he really did mean to just stay with the kids and help them with their projects involving photographs and the like. Nobody said anything but it was embarrassing to see my big bag amongst all the small ones in the corner of the classroom😳. I didn’t even use the camera at all that day 😂🤦🏻‍♀️.
All time favourite shows: Mostly anime lol 😂 like: Detective Conan, BNHA, Naruto, Munto (anyone seen this? It’s so beautiful! 😭 Why the heck is it so underrated??? 😭😭😭), One Piece, Demon Slayer, CardCaptor Sakura, Tsubasa Chronicles (it’s so beautiful! 😭😭😭), Fruits Basket, etc. For non-anime, though... Off the top of my head, my favourites are: Ghost Whisperer, Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye (where the heck are the subtitles??? I wanna watch this but I NEED SUBTITLES!!! GIMME THEM SUBTITLES!!! 😭😭😭), Sherlock, Friends, Descendants of the Sun (K-Drama, have you seen this one? No? Then go watch it right now! It’s so freakin’ beautiful! 😭😭😭). I think that’s it for now? 🤔
Last movie I saw in theatres: I think it was Avengers: Endgame back in May 2019. I don’t really go to cinemas that often unless it’s with friends lol 😅😂
Hoping to get to know:
@shelling4869ford @blenderfullasarcasm @trouvelle @raventhekittycat @nymphadorathetemplar +++ more! I don’t know many people that well but even if you aren’t tagged please feel free to do this or ignore! 😇💁🏻‍♀️✨

The Origins (Chapter 5)
Summary: Before the Renegades put an end to the Age of Anarchy, they were six kids trying to survive day by day in a city ruled by chaos and desolation. Is there a space for hope and kindness somewhere in Gatlon City? Maybe.
AO3 link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/25123756/chapters/62643247
Evander chapter took me a little bit longer than expected, ngl. I think this one is a little more action-y than my previous work??? Or maybe I’m just fucking allucinating lol.
Also, speaking of Evander, how do you guys pronunce his name? Because I was having Word to read this chapter out loud for me so I could recognize mistakes without having to read (?) and it pronunced it as Ee-vander, but I’ve always pronunced it as /E/vander, probably for the same reason I say “Simón” instead of “Simon” or “Hugo” instead of “Hugh”. Fellow spanish-speakers, back me up (?
BUT REALLY I NEED TO KNOW IS THERE A CANON PRONUNCIATION FOR EVANDER’S NAME???? PLS HELP
Tag list (tell me if you want in or out): @nodrianbcyes @blueraspberry-official @healing-winston-pratt @itsalittlebitchilly @callumtreadwell @plain-jane-mclain
Bring me along to the world you see
Age of Anarchy
Year 9
The night is warm and windless. He looks up and tries to beg the moon for help, but he has lost his voice. A mysterious force holds his arms and legs. The only thing he can move is his head.
The sky is full of stars, red and big as rubies.
"Vandy ..."
He looked to his right. His father's green eyes meet his. He used to say that seeing his son was like looking in the most flattering mirror. They both had red hair, the same eyes, their teeth slightly apart… they were identical. But his father didn't have freckles. His mother did.
"Are you okay?"
On the left, he sees his mother. Her blonde hair covers her face, but he can notice her painted lips and perfect liner. She has always been very protective of her makeup. It makes her feel beautiful.
Evander doesn't understand. His mom is beautiful, even without makeup.
His mom is beautiful, even when she’s dead.
" Evander ..."
An ownerless hand puts the barrel of the gun to his forehead. The metal feels hot. The stranger puts his finger on the trigger and is about to shoot when Kasumi shakes him and whispers:
"Evander, wake up."
Evander woke up screaming and with his heart racing. A layer of cold sweat covered his entire body. Tears began to flow from his eyes and instinctively, he reached for Kasumi's arms and hugged her with all the strength of his body.
"The same nightmare?"
"The same nightmare," he replied.
Kasumi stroked his red locks, while the silence in the room was interrupted by the exasperated moans of the other girls who slept there. Alix approached them with disdain and deep dark circles under her eyes.
He hated Alix. She could look through walls, had just turned seventeen last week, and believed herself to be the leader of the whole place just because she was the oldest.
"You said he wasn’t going to have nightmares anymore, Kasumi," she told her accusingly.
Kasumi shrugged. Evander stuck his tongue out at her.
Three years ago, some Jackals broke into his home during dinner, pointing guns at his parents' heads and demanding answers they didn't have. The first thing his mother did was run at him to protect him, but suddenly, the youngest of the Jackals grabbed him by the collar of his dirty shirt and tried to snatch him away.
However, Samantha Wade was not going to let anyone separate her from her son. She clung to him as if her life depended on it. Evander was too scared and deafened by all the yelling, that he didn't feel his mother's nails digging into his skin. "Don't take my son, please don't kill my baby."
After struggling for a while the boy was able to yank Evander from his mother's arms. The woman let out a brutal scream and that was enough for his father to jump on the Jackal, ready to do everything he could to rescue his son.
The tallest man broke his neck.
He gave a low, hoarse laugh. Evander would never forget it.
"We just need the girl," he explained to the younger jackal. "You take care of the child."
Evander couldn't see his father's body for more than two seconds, because the Jackal took him out to the backyard, sat him on the grass, and ordered him severely:
"Stay still. Unless you want to end up like your dad."
Those words were enough for Evander to overcome his urge to disobey.
He took out of his pocket three fireworks and a lighter.
"Today is Fourth of July, Evander Jr,” he said. "Let’s celebrate.”
Those fireworks were the only thing that lit up that starless night. However, neither their outburst nor their beauty could hide the words that the jackal whispered in his ear:
"Listen to me carefully, kid. You are going to drop to the ground and you aren't going to get up until dawn. In the morning, you'll walk five blocks to the home for child prodigies and you'll tell Bertha that Tom Freud sent you. Now, you will be surrounded by prodigies. Some may be powerful, but you must never to kneel before them. Do you understand?"
How ironic that Evander turned out to be a prodigy. Although no one had knelt before him. Yet.
Tom Freud did not wait for him to respond. As soon as the last spark disappeared, he pushed him to the ground, put his foot on his back, and shouted:
"Stay still!"
The bullet whizzed past his ear. Evander didn't scream, he just obeyed. He stayed still when Freud took his foot off his back. He stayed still when the Jackals left. And he even stayed still when the first ray of the sun illuminated his face.
When he saw the corpses on the kitchen floor, he could only ask himself what would have happened if he had not stayed still.
Every time that nightmare woke him up, he would ask Kasumi the same question. She would only tell him to look out the window.
"Your parents greet you from the stars," she assured. "Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Wade, hello."
Evander always responded with, “Look, your parents are there too. Hello, Mrs. Kasumi's mom, hello, Mr. Kasumi's dad. How do you say mom and dad in Japanese? "
Then, Kasumi proceeded to teach him some new words and expressions in Japanese. They both liked to put on solemn faces and start saying random phrases in Japanese when they were in public. They knew it was annoying for a lot of people, including Mom Bertha. She said Kasumi's mom used to do the same thing when they were younger when she was mad at her. Mom Bertha seemed sad after telling them this, so they decided not to do it in front of her anymore. Seeing Mom Bertha sad wasn't as fun as watching the older children get angry at them when they refused to explain what they were saying.
"You wouldn't understand," Evander told them, shaking his head with mock seriousness.
"That's right, you wouldn't understand," Kasumi agreed.
If others knew it was just random words and phrases, the game would be over, so they had to keep it a secret. Kasumi confessed that she regretted not being able to learn her parents' first language. However, she made an effort to learn how to say a very specific question.
Unfortunately, it was a question she had to make very often.
"Vandy, did you wet the bed?"
Evander hugged her tighter. Kasumi nodded and began to remove the covers. The girls immediately noticed what happened and started complaining, especially Alix. Evander sat on the corner of the bed, feeling dirty, and humiliated. They all looked at him with disgust and mockery, secreting each other.
Yeah, they didn’t like the idea of Evander sleeping in the same room as them. They said there was a room for boys and a room for girls for a reason. But Mom Bertha wouldn’t hear a word about it. Evander was going to sleep there, whether they liked it or not.
Why? Because he was a bed wetter and the boys weren’t very nice about it. Neither were the girls, but at least they didn’t start a fight with him when they realize Evander had wet the bed again.
He looked out the window. Mom Bertha was outside, talking to some men. He couldn't see their faces.
Evander had seen these men before. Sometimes when nightmares woke him up, he would listen to Mom Bertha talking to them. There were times when they yelled at each other, but there were other times when they gave her boxes filled with food and medicine. Kasumi made up the story that they were the guardians of the shadows, protecting the kingdom of the night.
"They look scary," Evander said to her when she told him the story.
"Don't worry, they won't hurt us."
But lately, Evander heard more screams and saw fewer boxes.
She dropped the wet sheets on the floor and handed him some clean underwear. Evander crawled under a blanket to change. Although he had a lot of privacy that way, Kasumi still turned her back on him so as not to make him uncomfortable.
"Kasumi, don't you listen to what we're saying?" Alix asked.
"I’m listening, Alix," she replied shyly.
“Then stop ignoring us. Evander is getting too old to sleep with the girls, he has to go with the boys. "
"But they are going to hit him again," Kasumi said.
“Well, better for him,” Alix replied. "Maybe he’ll finally learn wetting the bed is a horrible habit.”
Evander pulled the blanket off, pointed his finger at Alix, and yelled:
"You are horrible!"
Alix opened her mouth to respond and Evander threw his dirty underwear at her face. Kasumi burst out laughing along with the rest of the girls. Alix squealed as Evander started bouncing on the bed yelling  "Horrible, horrible, horrible girl!"  in Japanese.
He would do anything to annoy Alix and to keep Kasumi laughing.
When Alix recovered from the shock, she screamed:
"I'm going to kill you, Evander!"
A gunshot. Two gunshots.
Evander put a hand to his chest. Alix hadn't shot him.
Then who shot who?
Alix pushed Evander off the bed and leaned out the window. The shots had come from outside. Her face twisted in horror.
"Mom Bertha..."
All the other girls leaned over to look. Evander tried to push his way through them, but Kasumi quickly caught on and took him away from the scandal.
"Don't look," she whispered. "Please don't look."
"What happened?" he asked innocently. "Who’s shooting?"
"The guardians of the shadows," she replied, taking him by the shoulders, "have turned against us, Vandy."
As if she had summoned them, the guardians of the shadows knocked down the door to the girls' room pointing their guns at them. He and Kasumi hid under the bed, while the other girls screamed and raised their hands. The guardians of the shadows started holding them by their nightgowns and kicking them out into the corridor, not even giving them time to put on their shoes. The same scandal did not take long to begin in the men's room. A few more shots were heard.
And laughs. Low, hoarse laughs.
It can’t be…
The room was almost empty when a huge hand grabbed Kasumi by the wrist. Both screamed at the same time. Another hand grabbed Evander's arm and dragged them out of there.
The man was tall, muscular, and bald. A red bandanna covered his face.
Jackals.
"What are your powers!?" he yelled at Kasumi. His friend froze, staring at him with wide eyes and a sealed mouth. "What are your powers!?" he asked again.
More screaming. More demands. More questions they couldn't answer.
Evander tried to free himself from the man's grasp. All he wanted was to hug Kasumi once more. Maybe if he did it hard enough and for the right amount of time, he would be able to wake up.
The jackal growled and tossed Evander onto the bed as if ridding himself of an irritating mosquito. If he had done it harder, Evander would have been thrown out the open window.
The cold breeze gave him chills.
He looked at the window, then looked at his friend. She was still paralyzed and unable to answer the man's question. Kasumi, Evander, and the jackal were the only ones left in the room. Everyone else had gone to the common room.
He looked at the window. Then he looked at his friend.
The jackal drew his pistol and held it to Kasumi's head.
"WHAT ARE YOUR POWERS, LITTLE SLUT?!"
"She doesn’t understand you!" Evander yelled.
The jackal fell silent. Now the gun was pointed at him.
But Evander was not afraid.
"What are you talking about?"
“She doesn't speak English,” Evander explained, looking down. "That’s why she doesn't understand a single word of what you’re saying."
He looked at Kasumi curiously and threw Kasumi onto the bed, laughing. Evander hugged her.
Wake up, Vandy, wake up…
"What powers does the little slut have?" he asked Evander.
"I don't know," he replied, "she’s never used them."
"But she’s a prodigy."
"Yes, Mr. Jackal."
Another laugh. "I'm glad. If she wasn’t, I would have to kill her. And it would be a shame to kill such a pretty girl. "
Kasumi hugged him tighter. Perhaps she was also begging that it was all a dream. Or maybe she was more scared than he was.
Evander had to be brave for both of them.
"Do you want me to ask her for you?"
"Huh, now you happen to know Chinese," the jackal sneered.
"No, I know Japanese," Evander corrected.
He gave the loudest laugh of the night. Evander could perfectly visualize him breaking his dad's neck, laughing in the same way...
"Prove it."
Kasumi held his face in her hands. Her gaze seemed to scream at him:  "What are you doing?"  He had never seen her so confused.
He wished he could tell her what he was thinking.  Kasumi, don't be afraid. Think of this as a story. You know the best stories. Let's make our way out of this. Have a little bit of imagination.
But how could one have imagination at this moment?
"I... distraction... you window... we escape."
He saw his friend's gears moving inside her head. "Water... waterfall... escape," Kasumi stammered.
"Window, waterfall, escape" Evander repeated with a nod.
Kasumi smiled at him almost imperceptibly. She had understood. Those afternoons of annoying others had helped.
"What's she saying?" the jackal interrupted.
"She says she can heal trees," Evander replied.
"And what do you do?"
"I can control light."
It wasn't entirely a lie.
"And why aren't you wearing pants?"
Evander hadn't realized he was still in his boxers.
"I- I wetted the bed.”
The jackal's laughter echoed in his head. "How old are you? Six?"
"I’m eight, Mr. Jackal.”
The jackal pointed the gun at the old closet in the corner of the room. “Put on clothes, kid. And then go downstairs with the rest. "
Evander hurried to the closet. He grabbed the first pair of pants he could find. They were green and had strange spots on the knees. But he didn't have time to think about that.
"What are you waiting, bitch? Move,” he yelled at Kasumi.
Kasumi didn’t move.
The pants were too big for him.
"I said move!" and hit her with the pistol’s grip.
Evander ran to get between the jackal and his friend. "Leave her alone!" he screamed.
The jackal raised his hand for a second blow. Both children closed their eyes, preparing for the beating they were about to receive. However, the blow did not come. Something had stopped the jackal.
Evander opened one eye. The jackal stared at him incredulously, his mouth slightly open.
He laughed. "I'm going to kill Freud..."
Then, he loaded his gun, put in on Evander's forehead, and said:
"Hello, Evander Jr. Stay still."
At that moment, Evander knew he couldn't stay still this time.
He placed both of his hands over the jackal's eyes and fired the most powerful and explosive fireworks he could. The jackal's laugh became a cry of pain so loud that all of Gatlon City could hear it.
Kasumi carried him and created a waterfall that ran down to the fence door of the building. As Kasumi slid both of them to their freedom, Evander looked up at the stars.
He didn't know what would have happened if he hadn't stayed still four years ago. But if he had obeyed this particular jackal tonight, the sky would have one star more.
He loved his parents. But he didn't want to be a star just yet.

Surprise
part 4. [cont. from Where is Lucy ->]
✰ Mini Series
✰ NaLu Short
Natsu and Happy stand wait outside the guildhall door’s of Blue Pegasus debating the best way to approach Anna Heartfilia. The pair knows Gajeel may already have a head start but the boys know Anna is their best resource to find Lucy.
“Are you suuuure you wanna do this?” Happy asks uneasy about seeing Ichiya and the Three Idiots. Remembering the last time they were here the boys were forced to dress in penguin suits and be escorts to random people.
A job the boys were not wanting a repeat of.
“Anna is our best chance to find Lucy,” Natsu states fiercely.
“Aye sir!” Happy nods matching Natsu’s bravado.
Natsu knocks and the guild’s doors swing open.
“Welcome to Blue Pegasus, how can we—oh Natsu and Happy. What are you guys doing here?” Hibiki asks cocking his head to the side. Before the pair can answer Hibiki’s eyes light up, “I know! You’re here for the entertainment!”
“Huh?” The duo asks in confusion.
“Places everyone we have newcomers!” Hibiki announces ignoring them and pulls the boys inside before shutting the door behind them, the lights clicking off and a spotlight shining on Jenny who is standing on a center stage.
There are other customers sitting in the booths that allow them a view of Jenny. All the men drool and stare with wide eyes. Natsu and Happy begin trying to sneak away but Hibiki forced them to stay in their spot.
“Hey man we’re just looking for Anna,” Natsu complains.
“We’ll tell you where she is after you watch our number,” Hibiki says, “Don’t move!” He tells the best friends as he runs to join the other two, Eve and Ren, who are background dancers to Jenny.
Jenny begins singing a soulful song and with each line she begins stripping her clothes. Natsu’s eye twitches, “Let’s get out of here Happy,” Natsu states turning to leave when Ichiya blocks them from the doors to freedom.
“Meeeennnn,” he croons while striking his signature pose, “What brings Sir Natsu and Sir Happy to our humble guild hall?”
“We’re looking for Anna,” Happy states using his exceed wings to hover.
“Lady Anna is at the school as we speak. She is in the middle of teaching a class on the outskirts of town,” Ichiya informs the two while stepping back and forth in that small dance he does.
“Great we’ll find it ourselves,” Natsu states pushing past Ichiya to escape the torturous performance.
“You don’t want to watch the rest of Jenny’s performance?” Ichiya questions.
“No thanks,” Natsu quickly denies causing Jenny to send a glare at his back as the duo quickly ventures off.
“How will we know which direction to go?” Happy asks as he soars next to Natsu.
“My nose, duh!” Natsu grins as he easily picks up Anna’s scent and begins tracking her, “We’ll find her in no time.”
The duo manages to reach the teacher in the middle of her outdoor activities with her youngest class. She is chasing a few of the children in a game of tag, some of them even using magic to get away from the others.
“Yo! Anna!” Natsu greets as Happy is instantly attacked by the children’s grubby hands and all try taking turns to ride and pet the exceed.
“Natsu and Happy what a pleasant surprise, what can I do for you two?” Anna asks kindly as she picks up one of the students off of Happy but the others are relentless in their chase to catch him.
It still surprises Natsu how much she and Lucy look and smell alike. It makes him smile at how different they are in personality. While Anna is refined and graceful, Lucy is brash and rowdy much like the guild she joined, which he likes far better than how she was the first time he met her. He remembers she would be haughty and scared of nearly everything but she’s changed. She isn’t scared anymore and isn’t the princess she was supposed to be. He wonders what she would be like if she had stayed at her estate. What he didn’t like to think about was if he had never met her at all.
“We’re looking for Lucy,” Natsu states pulling himself out of his thoughts, “She’s been gone a few days now and we aren’t sure where she is.”
Anna’s face changes then as she recalls where her relative is. “Did she say how long she would be gone?”
“She only left us a note about being gone for a week,” Natsu shares.
“A week?” Anna echoes unsure if that time would be too long for poor Lucy.
“Do you know where she is?” Natsu questions wondering what is with all the secrecy.
“Yes she, um...” Anna trails off trying to decide if it would be appropriate for her to tell him where she is. After all, Lucy had turned down her offer to accompany her to Acalypha. Anna looks to Natsu and can see the desperate look behind his eyes.
“I need to know where she is so I can beat Gajeel to her!” Natsu says competitively as he shakes a fist to the sky as if Gajeel could see him.
So that’s why he looks so determined, Anna thinks with a funny smile.
“Natsu help!” Happy cries as the children have now somehow managed to tie him up and have gone to tossing his precious fishies back and forth as a game with each other.
Natsu starts laughing, “They sure got the jump on you didn’t they buddy.”
“Hey why are you talking to Miss Anna?” One of the children with wild blonde hair asks looking up at Natsu with scrutiny.
“I’ve got to find a friend kiddo,” Natsu answers raising one eyebrow as he looks down at the boy.
“I’m not a kid!” The boy shouts looking to Anna with a blush, “I’m a mature man just like the wizards at Blue Pegasus. More mature than you are clearly.”
“You think those weirdos are mature?” Natsu mutters, “Wait a second!”
“If it’s Miss Anna you want, then I’ll fight you for her!” The boy challenges Natsu.
“Oh yeah? Bring it on!” Natsu grins.
Anna only laughs, “Now boys there will be no fights while I’m the teacher here. Reo it’s time to go inside anyway. Why don’t you go ahead and pick out a book for me to read to the rest of the class?”
The blonde haired boy nods fiercely, “Right away Miss Anna!” He agrees and leaves to the classroom.
“Alright children that’s enough rough housing for today let’s get back inside for our story time!” Anna orders the class as she opens the door for them. They all cheer with excitement to learn more from Anna and rush inside the school house.
“That snot-nosed kid,” Natsu grumbles.
“I’m afraid I don’t have much time but I can tell you where Lucy is. She will need her friends most today,” Anna says with a sorrowful look.
• • •
The morning for Lucy was long. She was tossing and turning all night after she had finished her writing. She wasn’t sure why she was so anxious. All she knew was that the moment she saw her parents it would melt away. Luckily, the sun was out and brighter than ever. Despite the cold snow and air the sun was keeping Lucy’s face warm from its rays.
She spent time in the market getting items for her picnic, but when she tried to find two flower bouquets for her parents the shops were out of stock. All that were left were empty vases and wilted stems.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t get you flowers,” she tells her parents now standing before their gravestones with a sad smile, “I’m also sorry I couldn’t face either of your for so long,” Lucy admits sniffling.
“Hey Lucy.”
The celestial wizard turns recognizing the voice and is in awe of the bouquets of flowers in Loke’s arms.
“Loke? What are you doing here?” She asks.
“These flowers are from all of us,” he explains holding them out to her, “Plue told us you were in need of flowers before you closed his gate and we all chipped in with some flowers from the celestial spirit world.”
Lucy gazes at them in awe as she gently takes them from Loke. In the sun the chrysanthemums twinkle and almost glow beautiful shades of purple and blue that remind her of the skies in the celestial spirit world. The stems are long and have leaves that are a vibrant green against the snow.
Lucy feels tears building in the corner of her eyes, “Thank you so much,” she tells Loke as she meets his eyes, “They’re beautiful. You all did an amazing job putting them together.”
“Plue said you’ve been upset and we all wanted to try and ease the pain,” Loke admits and gives her a glistening smile, “You’re far too beautiful to have permanent frown lines and puffy eyes so if it will make you feel better I’m willing to go out with you now,” he says putting a gentle finger under Lucy’s chin and leans incredibly close to her.
“You never give up,” Lucy rolls her eyes as she swats his hand away from her and begins placing the flowers on the graves. She dusts the snow off of tombstones and gives them a sad smile as she places the stunning bouquets down. “I wish I could talk to you both...one more time,” Lucy tells them with a sad smile, “I’ve gone on so many adventures and made even more friends. I think you’d be proud of me Father. I never got to thank you Mother for the sacrifice you made for me...” Lucy trails off and feels the tears sliding down her cheeks as she wipes at them.
Loke puts a gentle hand on her shoulder and helps stand her up as he does a quick dark movement flashes across Loke’s periphreal vision.
“Lucy look out!” Loke exclaims and pushes her out of harms way causing a metal clawed hand that is connected to a chain digs into his side and the wielder of the the weapon pulls back causing a gash to form in his side.
“Loke!” Lucy cries out for her celestial spirit.
“Damn it!” Loke grunts and disappears back to the celestial spirit world leaving Lucy alone.
“Surprise!” A voice shouts with enthusiasm, “Well, well, well look at who we’ve got here, Lucy Heartfilia,” the person says with a terrifying grin.
Lucy looks over at the person and sees a man with a red and black striped sweater and a black fedora on his head. He’s wearing worn pants and heavy boots too. He swings the metal claw around on its black chain with a malevolent swagger.
“Looks like I’ll finally have my revenge today,” he says licking his lips as he looks at Lucy.

Dead Space - Good, Bad, I’m the Guy With the Gun
It starts the day the hero falls. Crashing in a blaze of glory of twisted metal and burning ozone, he leaves a scar on the Earth that changes everything.
And Keith sees it all.
Chapter 4 of 11
Tags: attempted Horror Elements, Zombies, Violence and Gore, Eventual Smut, Happy Ending i swear
Also on AO3
A/N: Fun fact- This chapter has one of my fave chapter titles in this fic lol
********************************
The world spins violently, making Keith’s stomach pitch fiercely as his eyes shoot open. The only light is from a weak lamp clipped to a high window sill, leaving most of the room still shadowed. Sitting up slowly and swallowing down the sudden urge to upend the few contents in his stomach, he notes the bare walls and dingy tile of the floor, and the torn, ratty sleeping bag serving as a makeshift bed beneath him.
Shifting to get a better look at his surroundings, Keith feels the tight bite of rope at the flesh of his wrists, the sudden burn of it pulling his consciousness back to his present and the circumstance that had landed him here.
“Shiro,” Keith gasps, turning fully in search of the darkened corners. Eyes scanning across the room, his gaze stops on the thin frame of the man from the street. Sitting atop a plain, metallic chair, he keeps his eyes settled on Keith as his mouth twists into a smug grin.
A groan, loud and biting pushes from deep within Keith’s throat as he finally recognizes the man.
Lance McClain. Keith had never truly paid the younger cadet much mind when he was in the Garrison, but that had never seemed to change the competition between them that Lance had crafted in his own head.
While Keith had had his eyes set ahead to where Shiro had been, Lance had had his eyes set on him.
Leaning forward in his chair, Lance pushes his forearms into his thighs as he rolls the rifle between his palms, gaze not once leaving Keith.
The light from the windowsill traces Lance’s face with bright lines. His thin face looks thinner, his boyish looks lost to the test of time and the apocalypse, leaving his cheekbones sharp and his blue eyes marred by dark bags.
Even still, he looks smug enough for Keith to want to punch him in the face.
For old time’s sake.
“Hey, buddy,” Lance says, vestiges of his smarmy tone still clinging stubbornly to his voice as he speaks. Its cadence makes the dull, aching throb at the back of his head pulsate.
“Where’s Shiro?” Keith all but snarls, hands folding into fists as he flexes against the tight binding of the rope. It doesn’t budge, instead biting further into his skin in a way that he’s sure will leave the skin at his wrists torn and raw.
Not that that truly matters, Keith thinks as he shifts slightly, feeling the way his legs move freely.
It was their second mistake.
Their first having been knocking him out.
“No hello? No, wow Lance, I missed you, glad to see you didn’t become zombie chow?” Lance muses, leaning back and slapping a hand over his heart with a loud gasp of faux hurt. “That cuts me deep.”
Ignoring his quips, Keith repositions his legs carefully, moving as if he was just trying to get a bit more comfortable. The change leaves him bracing his weight on one foot with his thigh flush against his chest, with the other leg folded beneath him.
“At least if you were zombie food, you wouldn’t be giving me such a headache,” he bites out, glaring at his old acquaintance as his muscles tense.
“That would be courtesy of Hunk, not me,” Lance shrugs, leaning forward once more as he replaces his hand on his rifle. There’s a sparkle buried deep in his eyes as his hands tighten on the muzzle. It’s a challenge, silent and standing between them, filling the distance with a bright burning tension.
One breath became two, and starts to become a third when Keith launches himself forward, hands held awkwardly in front of him where they’re tied.
A look of shock dances across Lance’s features as Keith swats the rifle out from his grip before twisting to kick at his side, forcing him and his chair sideways. The grating clatter of metal against tile screams through the air as Keith falls on top of him, pushing the flush of his forearm into his throat as he leans in close.
“I won’t ask again. Where’s Shiro?” Keith growls, sneer nothing but teeth.
“Chill, man,” Lance chokes out as he struggles beneath him. He gets a hand fisted in the material of Keith’s shirt and another on his side when there’s a loud knock on the door, effectively freezing them both as the pair turn their gazes toward the offending sound.
“Hey, you good in there?” Another familiar voice calls through the wood, “Allura wanted to see us like, 10 minutes ago.”
Hunk, Keith’s brain supplies, as he remembers the timid engineering student who had seemed attached to Lance’s hip. The moment of pause gives Lance just enough to steady his hold and push Keith off of him. As he falls to the side, Lance quickly rolls in the opposite direction before coming back to a crouch, all the while coughing and rubbing at his throat.
“Yeah, buddy, all good here. Just go ahead without us, we’ll be there in a minute,” he calls out to his companion on the other side of the door as he glares at Keith.
Both men hold stock still as they wait, both relaxing slightly at the small sound of affirmation that makes its way into the room.
“If you’d just given me a minute, you’d know that I was going to take you to see him. Allura wants to see you both,” Lance hisses after hearing the sound of Hunk’s footsteps draw away from the door.
“Who the hell is Allura?” Keith spits, tone untrusting as he pushes himself up onto his feet. Taking several steps away from the brunette, he braces himself with the wall at his back, watchful gaze stuck on Lance.
“The person who is going to get us all out of this apocalyptic bullshit alive,” he remarks with a shrug, as if the sheer impossibility of the statement was simple fact. Giving Keith another hard look, he leans down to pick up his discarded rifle, brushing it off and cooing quietly to it before he uses it to gesture toward the door.
“We’re going to leave, but if you make a run for it, I can’t guarantee you won’t be shot down before you get to the exit.”
It lacks threat, said as nothing but yet another fact. Pausing to allow Keith the chance to say something, Lance shrugs at his silent obstinance.
“Not sure you’ll be much use to Shiro dead.”
It pushes a low grumble of acquiescence between his teeth as he watches Lance move toward the door. Pushing away from the wall, he stretches quickly to loosen his achey joints. Standing behind Lance, he watches over his shoulder as he opens the door.
Scraping along the flooring, the wood opens up into an empty hallway. It’s just barely cleaner than the room, though there’s grime that still clings to the corners where the floor meets the wall and a staleness that hangs in the air. Construction lights line the hallway every few feet, leaving stretches of darkness between the circles of illumination that they cast, leaving the space filled with a sort of eeriness that Keith couldn’t quite place.
There was no telling just how long the building had been abandoned, even before the end of the world.
“This way,” Lance says, motioning for Keith to follow as he turns to the left, not bothering to look back to make sure he follows. Not that he supposes he has much of a choice.
It’s a thought that sends a wave of annoyance pulsing through him in time with the aching throb at the back of his head.
Passing through the hall in tense silence, Keith lets his gaze wander over his surroundings, taking in the boarded windows and stretch of doorways covered with mismatched coverings and torn pieces of fabric.
As they move along, he hears the quiet mutterings of people inside.
It takes several minutes before Lance finally stops at the end of the hallway where two heavy metallic doors stand. Settling his hands over the rusting handles, Keith watches as he takes a breath. The depth of it raises his shoulders before they slow come back down around his exhale.
“I know we never quite got along, but give Allura a chance,” Lance says lowly, throwing a quick look back to him before pushing the doors wide.
Over his shoulder, Keith can see the long stretch of a room with several metal tables. Stepping through the threshold, he makes quick work of counting the tables, and taking in their stock.
Three along the back wall are littered with guns and ammunition. Two, one at the very center and one pushed to the front, support out of date monitors and even older computer towers. The final table that stands alone at the side of the room boasts a coffee machine and a random assortment of snacks.
Atop the table set at the center of the room, the monitors stand like a curved barrier around its occupant. It obscures all but the person’s mess of tawny hair above the top of the smallest monitor.
Beside the hidden stranger, a woman stands tall and lean, with darkly tanned skin, white hair twisted atop her head, and striking eyes.
She looks strong, her obvious authority rolling off of her, even as she offers the person to her side a small, secretive smile.
Even without introduction, Keith knows exactly who she must be.
Allura.
Her gaze finds him then, cutting into his chest, almost as if she could hear his very thoughts.
“Good, you’re finally here,” she says, voice strict and accented as she gestures for Lance to close the door. With a quick nod and a small sound in his throat, he shuts the doors, revealing two figures on the other side.
A rush of relief rolls through Keith as he sees that one of the figures is Shiro.
His silvered gaze finds him easily as Shiro offers him a small, reassuring smile. Offering a small nod in return, Keith traces his form quickly, noting how he stands tall, hands free and untied where they hang at his sides.
With another quick dip of his chin, Keith moves his attention toward the man beside him.
Hunk looks the same as he had at the Garrison, only harder, as if he was the visage of the boy he had once known but carved of hardened stone. It doesn’t diminish the slight smile that seems to still tug at the corner of his lips, however.
Silence rolls out through the room as Allura steps around the desk, stopping at the end closest to them. Settling her hip against the corner, she crosses her arms and makes a show of analyzing them both slowly.
Quick clicks punch through the deafening quiet as the person behind the monitors continues to type away.
“I’ve heard so much about you both,” Allura finally says, drawing her attention back up to capture Keith’s stare.
“Keith Kogane, rising star of the Galaxy Garrison. Relieved of your position after an assault on a superior officer. Specializations in hand-to-hand combat and flight,” she states, tone bored, as if she reading was his successes and failures off of a memorized checklist.
Aside from the woman herself, he’s certain no one there needed a reminder about his history, half of them having been there for a front seat view of it all. He feels his lips twitch into a sneer as she turns her attention away from him and toward Shiro.
“And Takashi Shirogane, the Garrison’s brightest. Youngest pilot to land the lead pilot position for a major space exploration. Originally pronounced dead after the failure of the mission.”
The way the words fall from her tongue sounds accusatory, even as she continues to stand there at perfect ease with her arms folded across her front and her eyes bright.
“Seems you know enough about us,” Shiro bites out, the snap of his voice turns his word brittle as he tenses under Allura’s scrutiny. “Anything we should know about you?”
There’s a hollow pause as the edges of Allura’s mouth turn upward into a smile. Sharp and bright, its equal parts welcoming as it is dangerous.
“I’m Allura,” she offers before opening her arms wide to gesture all around them, “and this is New Altea.”
Taking a brief moment to look between them both, she continues.
“It isn’t much, but I assure you, it is only a temporary solution.”
“New Altea?” Keith asks, pushing the foreign name through the wall of his indignation as he flexes against the rope. It earns him her attention once more as her gaze cuts back to him, the startling blue of her eyes catching the light like a blade.
“Our colony. When the city was destroyed, I tried to gather as many survivors as I could. Those here now may be the last of us,” Allura says low and matter-of-fact in the very same way as a doctor giving a terminal prognosis. The statement might have cut deeper if he wasn’t already armored by his own pragmatism.
Keith had given up on the rest of humanity the very same night Shiro had fallen from the sky.
“Why were you looking for us?” Shiro asks, cutting through the silent thread of electricity that had built between Keith and Allura. Both turning toward him, Keith doesn’t miss the way her moth turns into a wider smile.
“You knew,” is all she says, admiration apparent in the lightness of her tone. Shiro misses Keith’s questioning look as he keeps his stare resolute and forward on the woman before them.
“Your men weren’t always subtle,” Shiro shrugs, earning a small tinkling laugh.
“No,” Allura replies, voice filled with mirth as her gaze flicks quickly to the man at Keith’s shoulder. “That does seem to be a bit of a problem for them.”
“We’re still here, ‘llura,” Lance mumbles under his breath, shifting on his feet.
“So what do you want from us?” Shiro pushes, the question lighting Keith’s nerves as he watches the exchange between the two. Two behemoth forces coming together in battle, he isn’t sure any of them will make it out alive before Allura finally looks away. Moving away from the desk, Allura slowly walks toward the computer set at the very front of the room.
“I worked for the government, you know,” she starts, not looking back at them as she taps on the space bar, the monitor attached to it flickering to life. “I was never a part of the Garrison, but it was my duty to monitor them. A handler, of sorts. There was nothing they did that I did not know of.”
Fingers flying across the keyboard, file after file pulls up onto the screen.
“At least, that’s how it was supposed to be.”
From where he stands, Keith watches the brief flash of images across the screen. Some are too blurry to make out, some obvious shots of the open desert, others what looked to be microscopic shots of cellular structures.
One, in particular seems to freeze on the screen longer than others, leaving Keith staring into the depths of the very same photo of Shiro that the media had pasted alongside the announcement of the mission’s failure.
“I had begun noticing some strange notations in their ledgers. Ones that made sense when just fed through the system, but a little less so when combed through by human eyes.”
The image is quickly covered by another, and then another, and then another, each coming quicker than the last as Keith schools his breathing, eyes never leaving the screen.
“After some digging, I noticed that no matter how I followed those breadcrumbs, I always came back to you,” at this, she turns over her shoulder to fix her gaze on Shiro once more.
A hush of a sound, low and confused is his only reply as Keith recognizes the scene frozen on the monitor. A science lab, white and sterile, stands as a moment in time, its occupants stuck in varying degrees of movement around a table where a body lay.
Allura’s eyes never leave Shiro as she presses the space bar once more, bringing the scene to life.
Keith watches as the scientists start to shuffle around Shiro’s unmoving body, their hazmat suited forms marking sheets of paper and tapping at tablets. Holding his breath, he lets his lungs burn as he watches one of the forms stop mid step, muscles seemingly locking. It’s a harrowing moment, made more so with the silence of the video, as the scientist’s body twists sharply and unnaturally before crumpling to the ground.
Several seconds pass before any of the other figures seem to notice, the first making quick movement to get across the room, only to freeze and crumple in the exact same manner.
One by one, he watches them fall until none are left standing, their bodies littering the ground.
After several more seconds, another figure enters at the bottom of the frame, coming to a halt just beneath the camera and freezing as Allura taps the space bar once more.
A shudder tickles down the knobs of his spine as he looks at the fuzzy version of himself standing stuck in that moment of time when he had happened on the scene.
Electricity crackles and pops through the room as Allura straightens, rolling her shoulders back and adopting an air of authority once more as she turns back toward them. Her gaze is harder this time, chips of frozen cerulean.
“So, tell me Shiro,” she says, steely toned, “why didn’t you die in that tent?”
Burning unease rockets through Keith, his muscles coiling, ready for a fight.
“What are you trying to accuse him of?” He spits out, pushing himself quickly between Shiro and Allura to covet her stare. Holding it, he feels the quick burn of her apprehension on his skin as he pulls against the rope on his wrists, a deeper burning ache biting deeper in his skin with his futile motions.
A quick coughing sound breaks the moment, shattering it like glass as the person behind the monitors finally stands.
Nothing but wild, tawny hair, and large wired rimmed glasses, Keith feels his breath stall in his throat.
“Matt?” He hears himself whisper, trying to force his gaze away to look at Shiro. Almost as soon as the name drops from his mouth, his vision shifts and his mind catches onto the minute details that separate the person before them from his lost friend.
“Katie,” Shiro hushes, as she pushes her glasses further up her nose with a small smile.
“Hey Shiro,” she whispers, offering him a barely there smile before turning her gaze on Allura. Sharing a silent moment, Allura gives her a quick nod.
“You are both welcome to stay,” she says, almost begrudgingly to Keith before her attention moves behind him, landing on Shiro.
“But on the condition that you’ll let Pidge do some tests.”
The second passes like an eternity as the occupants of the room all seem to suck in a bated breath.
Finally, Shiro answers.
“Alright.”

Note
4, 5, 7, 10, 13, 15, 16, 17, 23, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 33, 36, 39, 40, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 59, 60 [Which do you prefer between Knb and Haikyuu?] for the ask you recently reblogged please?
4. what are you looking forward to?
I'm looking forward to school starting again, even if it's just a weird hybrid of online/flipped classes, I miss my teachers and like, being productive. also if I'm in class I can't be worked borderline inhumane hours right…. right??
5. is there anyone who can always make you smile?
yeah, my roommate. she always either knows how to cheer me up, or blunders around trying to find the right method to the point that it's funny and I end up smiling anyway. she's really awesome like that.
7. what was your life like last year?
it had a lot of ups and downs. I had a great job, but the people I worked with eventually made it toxic and awful. I was doing really well in school, but stressed all the time, had an awesome relationship but kind of ruined it w my anxiety, and had serious roommate issues that made me afraid to leave my bedroom or even come home, sometimes. I remember a lot of very high highs and very low lows especially in the fall/winter of that year.
10. are you good at hiding your feelings?
well, yes and no… I don't tend to show a lot of emotion to begin with, but what I do show, I'm basically incapable of hiding, and apparently I'm a terrible liar bc my face gives me away.
13. how do you feel right now?
I'm pretty alright… kind of anxious, kind of tired, but that's just been the status quo lately tbh.
15. personality description
already answered, so I suppose I'll elaborate. I'm simultaneously like, the most confident and the most self-doubting person I know... like there are certain things I'm super certain of and times when I feel no shame, and there are others where I'll just shrivel into a ball of anxiety and mortification and never come out. in the same vein, I'm simultaneously very trusting and open and very wary and cautious with people… it really depends on the situation and the person I think, I'm a very "you get out what you put in" person.
16. have you ever wanted to tell someone something but you didn't?
yeah, I’m still holding onto things I’ve wanted to tell certain people tbh… I used to be a lot more forthcoming and not worry about the consequences of what I had to say, but now that I’ve seen what power words have to ruin relationships and impact people I tend to hold back quite a bit.
17. opinion on insecurities
I have… many, but I understand that I shouldn't and am working on the ones I do have. I think feeling insecure can lead to some of the most ugly, toxic emotions and responses in certain people, so I'm trying to be conscientious of that.
23. fear(s)
um let’s see… jump scares, the dark (sometimes), corners I can’t see around, drowning/suffocating, pain, failure, losing control...
27. things I hate
wet socks, sunburn, acne, willful ignorance, bigotry, excessively negative people… uh… idk hate's a strong word that's all I've got
28. I'll love you if…
if you are genuinely, authentically yourself. if you’re the kind of person I can feel comfortable and at ease with. if you show me patience and compassion and make an effort to know me and let me know you… then yeah you’re never getting rid of me.
29. favorite film(s)
The Road to El Dorado, Into the Spider-verse, Howl’s Moving Castle, Spirit, Life of Pi, The Truman Show, The Perks of Being a Wallflower
30. favorite tv show(s)
Haikyuu!!, Kuroko no Basuke, Avatar, Bojack Horseman, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Beastars, Dragonball Z
31. 3 random facts
already answered so here's three more
1. lately I've been carrying a fanny pack with the trans flag (there's an unfortunate but very tempting pun in there) and it's still got the security tag bc they forgot to take it off in the store so now every time I walk through the doorway to like, a drug store, I set off the alarm. I would get it taken off but it was sent to me from Chicago lol.
2. I've got a lot of outdoorsy skills bc of my gym class in high school, like rock climbing, kayaking, building fire, etc. I'm not super adventurous in my daily life but while I was in that class, I did all kinds of things.
3. for awhile I worked at a cat cafe, and helped take care of the 12-15 rescue cats we'd have there at any given time. I stand by that it was the best job I've ever had, but the people I worked with, not so much.
33. something you want to learn
I really want to learn to skateboard or surf. it's been a dream for a long time and I have (suspiciously acquired) both, but my balance is shit and I have no patience for new skills lately, so...
36. 3 dreams you want to fulfill?
already answered so here's three more
1. someday I want to have a pickup truck, I've been looking at, like, bright orange Tacomas and stuff, but of course I'd need a license to be able to drive one
2. I'd like to have a garden again, or maybe have a plot in a community garden. I've been growing nasturtiums and things on my balcony while in school but it's not quite the same
3. still waiting on the day I can get top surgery tbh. I just… want to be able to be shirtless at the beach and wear tank tops with nothing underneath, okay?
39. favorite sport(s)
ahahahaha… favorite sport you say. to play or to watch? 'cause I generally don't like to do either, tho I do like watching the folks who play volleyball on the beach. and considering one of my favorite shows is about volleyball and it was the sport I sucked at the least in school, maybe we’ll go with volleyball? but in general I’m not a sports person.
40. favorite memory
I have a vague memory… of helping my mom in the garden of my old house when I was a little kid, mostly just digging in the dirt in the spring and being outside with my family… it's not very clear or specific but I think those days were some of the happiest of my life.
52. something I'm talented at
I'm good at learning the lyrics to songs, I've got over 1000 downloaded in my spotify library and I'm pretty sure I know the words to at least most of them. in a similar vein I'm good at learning the scripts to movies, and just… memorizing things in general especially audio.
53. 5 things that make me happy
already answered so here's some more!
1. songs with a light, strummy acoustic feel and creative lyrics… I've got a whole playlist for that vibe there's just something about songs like that that make me really calm
2. I really like being hugged or cuddled by my friends, just being in close proximity and hanging all over each other, makes me all warm and fuzzy inside tbh
3. I love driving with the windows down (I can't drive so I mean riding passenger lol), especially in the canyon by my house, through the forest and by the beach.
54. something that's worrying me at the moment
I’m so afraid things won’t go back to the way they were. ...that applies to multiple aspects of my life, not just with this pandemic but school, work, friends, relationships… it seems like I’m always chasing the past and dreading the future, so much that I can’t ever be satisfied in the present moment, and that’s something that’s been on my mind a lot.
55. tumblr friends
@hadenxcharm, @spaztictwitch, @kurokonobaka, @taigainside, @hybristophilica and you could be too! all you gotta do is message me tbh I'm easy
56. favorite food(s)
strawberry cheesecake, fried shrimp, key lime pie, tuna steak
59. why I joined tumblr
I joined in 2012 bc my friends told me to, had a brief recession where I didn't use it at all, and a pretty lengthy sidetrack through the RP community, and then I came back bc of the friends I'd made here, and the unique-ness of the platform that I kinda can't find anywhere else. I'm stuck here just like the rest of y'all.
60. ask me anything you want (which do you prefer between KNB and Haikyuu?)
now this is a tough one… bc I really love them both a lot, and tbh in terms of quality of writing, art/animation, thematic music, character development and general story, I think Haikyuu!! has KNB beat, buuuuuut…. in spite of its flaws, I have such a soft spot for KNB and I keep coming back to it over and over again even as it falls into relative obscurity. It's the only thing I write for anymore and I'm still, somehow, utterly obsessed with the characters I first fell in love with over five years ago. KNB has problems, for sure, but the things it gets right (like setting a mood, strong emotional beats and character relationships) it knocks out of the park. I don't know if I could ever choose one over the other in terms of like, "you can only read/watch one of these and have to give up the other forever", but in terms of which has had the biggest impact, and still hits me the hardest, I'd probably have to go with KNB… but it's not by any means an easy choice.

There he was, wandering the streets late at night, heading to where he used to live when he was little. The walking was slow, he couldn't even hear the sounds of the city anymore. He didn't remember the last days, couldn't remember waking up at 5 in the morning everyday to go to work. He didn't pay attention to anything he had done.
It had been about two weeks, it was still a fresh memory. He couldn't believe it, he kept thinking it was a nightmare, but a nightmare he couldn't wake up from. He had walked for about two miles, face and neck dripping from the tears he recently had rolling down his cheeks, wetting his clothes and dropping on the ground. It was still a long road ahead, even though he was shaking and his hands freezing because of the cold. He loved the cold. Every time he felt it, it reminded him of the warm and cozy hugs his lover used to give him, and it made him smile.
He simply gave up. It was sad thinking that everyday from now on, it would be the same, over and over again. On his earphones, there was random music playing, on the loudest setting available. The probability of this resulting in health problems didn't even scare him anymore. He didn't care.
He stopped in front of a white colored building, that wasn't even that visible because of the bad lighting. He stood still, frozen, unable to reason for a few minutes. It was his home, back in the school days.
He used to live with his parents, and still remembered their routine, to this day. Oh, school... He missed waking up with a purpose, going out there to acquire knowledge. He loved learning. Having to pack everything before he left, his backpack weighting more and more as the year flew by. He got at school and was welcomed by his friends, not even thinking that one day, this would all be over.
What he didn't know is that he would be in this situation. Everything changed so drastically, in so little time. It seemed like everything would end soon - and he wouldn't be able to enjoy any of his final times. Every second matters, and Namjoon knew this now, better than anyone else.
He walked away from that street, heading directly to the city. But now, with a different destiny. After about twenty minutes, he sat on the grass, still wet from the afternoon rain, and kept looking around that place. The only light source was the moon, hence why he could only read what was well pronounced. Tears kept flowing by, now faster than ever, it was his first time coming back in two whole weeks. Even though he didn't want to, he remembered an episode that happened on that school patio. He wouldn't be able to forget that, ever.
It was one of the coldest mornings of 2014. The boy always went out feeling cold, his fingers cold, even though he was wearing two hoodies and a heavy jacket on top of them. The long period of time he spent in that place was always worth it. It was before class that he saw Seokjin, the one who, besides being two years older than him, never got old. The one who kept him safe when he got scared, warm when he got cold or even for no reason at all, always kept close. Jin was his home, and it seemed that, putting all limits aside, when they were together, was the only one that made everything turn infinite. To him, Jin was, and will always be, the only one. There was no other option besides loving him, and only him.
He never felt like it really was real. Until it was August 5th, and he left his house without feeling cold. He found it weird, but decided to ignore it. After a 15-minute walk, he got to school, and waited for Seokjin, but he wasn't there. Odd, he thought, since they always waited fot he bells to ring there, together. He waited for a few more minutes, hoping someone would come. He felt lonely. Nobody came.
The bell rang, He got to class and stayed there, until the last period ended. Before he got home, he checked the rest of the school to see if they were making a prank on him. They weren't.
He got back home, ran to his room and locked the door. His heart was beating abnormally fast, his breathing failing and then, decided to call Jin. After 5 missed calls, the phone stopped ringing, and he let out a sigh, waiting to hear a "hello" coming from the elder. He didn't hear anything.
"Hyung?"
"Namjoon..." - his voice was shaking, almost like a whisper.
"Hyung, where are you? Why didn't you come to school today?"
"I'm sorry, Namjoon..." as soon as he heard that, his heart skipped a beat - he could hear Seokjin crying on the other side of the line. "But I'm at the hospital, I was in a lot of pain early in the morning today, so I called the boys to keep me company, but my phone was out of service. I'm hospitalized, Namjoon-ah..."
Hearing that was the last thing he did before hanging up and rushing to the car, completely ignoring the fact that he still wasn't allowed to drive"
"Room 138"
These words were enough for him to sprint through the hospital, running over a few nurses, so he could finally open the door and see five people sitting around the bed, staring right back at him. Not even in his wildest dreams, he thought he'd have the image of Seokjin lying on a hospital bed, looking almost lifeless, skin as pale as the walls around him, connected to breathing machines.
The face of fear the youngest made mixed together with his want to cry. Tears already formed on the corners of his eyes. It was Jin who was laying there. His face, once happy and always smiling, now expressed purely the feeling of angst, in a way that was never seen before. He looked terrible. His eyes, that always smiled before his mouth, were now showing sadness. His full lips, that always had a smile on them, looked dry and chapped. Jin never let his feeling out loud. He only let the good and positive ones show through, so that he could make the others happy, lift up everyone's moods, and mask his own bad ones.
It could be any of them: Taehyung, Jeongguk, Yoongi and even Hoseok lying there, and Namjoon wouldn't ever feel as bad as he felt now. He cared too much.
"What... What happened?" He softly asked, frozen at the sight of his love on that bed, hearing one of the boys, probably Jimin, standing up and pulling him inside the room.
"I..." The elder started, already feeling his chest burn and the tears making their way down his face. "I'm sick, Namjoon-ah..." At each word he heard, Namjoon could feel his legs tremble, so much that it got to a point when he couldn't hold himself up any longer. "I have cancer."
Ever since that day, Jin fought at all times. Namjoon, each passing day, got worse and worse at hiding his own pain. His health framework got worse each and every second of the day. Everyone knew that it was coming to an end, even Seokjin himself. What they never knew is that it could happen this soon.
Time was never healing to the youngest. Because of it, he was never able to have his first kiss with the man he always wanted. He wasn't able to travel to his dream place with the one he loved. Nothing occurred the same way Namjoon planned out, it almost seemed that, each passing day, he was getting closer and closer to the end. To him, time went by too quickly, so slowly. Time was like a weapon, but automatic. You start the fire, wait a couple seconds and, soon after, the bullet flies through quickly. Depending on the gun, it damages a little, or ends up destroying it all. This time around, it wasn't the former.
Kim SeokJin, 12.04.1992-08.09.2016
It was then and there that, after everything that happened, the only thing he could do was smile. There was wind blowing on his hair, his body going back and forth, he could feel butterflies on his stomach. Jin really was the only one for Namjoon. He really, really was.
It was two days later, that the turn to read the name was the other ones'. Yoongi, Hoseok, Jimin, Taehyung, Jungkook. There they were, for the second time that same year. This time, there was a new name added beside their eldest hyung's.
Kim Namjoon, 09.12.1994-08.23.2016

A Different Kind of Fear
The K Company server is a gem and goldmine for random sometimes silly/interesting writing ideas I never would have had otherwise
Which is how this It AU is happening so please enjoy. This and the Ghost inspired fic are gonna make up the start of my Horror Movie AU and I’ll be sure to tag these fics as such!
Also this isn’t going to be canon compliant with either It movie tbh like
I’m just taking Pennywise and putting him where I want and he’s gonna deal with it.
Half of me can’t even believe I wrote this or that it ended up the way it did.
As always, my love to those who read/like/reblog (though I understand if you don’t wanna reblog this one lol.)
“How the fuck is he out here?” Snafu hissed.
“Same way he managed to be in New Orleans, but somehow in Mobile at the same time,” Eugene huffed, staring down the clown waving at them from across the airfield, using the arm of a dead soldier laying on the ground to wave. “Tormenting kids no matter they are.”
“We aren’t kids anymore, so what the fuck does he want?” Snafu glared at the clown, a hand on his rifle.
“Don’t think it has to be kids. Kids are just easier to scare. But y’know what’s out here right now?”
“Whole buncha scared men, some of ‘em not even eighteen yet,” Snafu replied. “Shit.”
“Yeah,” Eugene sighed. “The hell do we do if he comes closer? We can’t start spoutin’ off about seeing a fucking clown in the middle of-”
“You guys see him too?” Ack Ack popped up behind them, seemingly from out of nowhere, and they both jumped.
“Uh...yessir. We see the...clown,” Snafu replied. “How can you see him?”
“How can I not? He used to follow me and my friends all over town. Calling to us from storm drains, showing up in our backyards just...watching us. Always turning into the worst thing you could imagine whenever he got close enough or got anyone cornered. Still think he took one of my friends. They said he ran away but...he wasn’t that sort. But he had that damn clown trying to chase him down almost every day towards the end. He wasn’t sleeping, wouldn’t sit still long enough to eat. Always felt like he had to keep moving to avoid it.”
“Jesus,” Eugene breathed. “So...what did you and the rest of your friends do to get rid of him?”
“We didn’t. I still get letters from some of the boys who couldn’t enlist for medical reasons, saying he’ll try and catch them after work if they’re alone, or show up in the basement of their home as their worst fear. Hell, thought I was losing it when I saw him a few days ago looking like...” Ack Ack looked to the ground and coughed. “I’d rather not say, honestly. It was gruesome.”
“We got guns, enough men to take on an airfield full of Japanese. Why not just go after him before anyone higher up notices?” Snafu asked. “If we split up, and send 1/5 just over-”
Ack Ack held up a hand to stop Snafu. “Not all the men can see him. At least, I’m fairly certain not all of them can. We’d be sending them after a ghost, as far as they’d be concerned. And that won’t do. Besides, I’ve shot at him in the past, and it didn’t do a damn thing. Didn’t even slow him down.”
“He can’t be immortal,” Eugene said, ignoring the clown as it shape-shifted to a vision of Snafu, then Ack Ack, both with bloody bullet wounds in their foreheads. “Somethin’ can kill him. I just know it.”
“Most we can do is keep an eye on him,” Ack Ack said. “You both should rest; we push forward in the morning.”
Snafu glanced over to the clown and shook his head. “Not sleepin’ so long as that asshole is starin’ at us. I don’t trust that he isn’t plannin’ to run over here as soon as we let our guard down.”
Eugene nodded. They’d both been on guard, after discovering they were both being followed by the same monster, during an off-hand discussion in the foxhole that had led to a deeper talk about fear and the scariest thing they’d ever seen. And now that thing was watching them, his head cocked to one side, while he grinned maniacally.
“You can’t not sleep. Or try to sleep, at least. I’ll keep watch for you, and both of you sleep,” Ack Ack admonished.
“Sir, that isn’t fair to the other men, I mean-” Eugene started.
“I gave you an order,” Ack Ack interrupted, but smiled softly. “You both remind me of my friend right now, and I’m not letting that thing get anyone else on my watch.”
They leaned against a wall of the abandoned and nearly destroyed airfield building the company was sheltered in for the night, Ack Ack in between them and
It still wasn’t easy to sleep, with the sound of war ongoing and the threat of the Japanese possibly coming to try and take the airfield back somehow, but he managed. Snafu seemed to have done the same, his head on Ack Ack’s shoulder as he snored. Ack Ack was asleep too, and it hit Eugene like a brick to the face.
Ack Ack was asleep. Snafu was asleep. He had been asleep. No one had kept watch for Japanese or that goddamned clown.
In the corner of the room, the sound of shuffling loafers caught his ear. He turned to look, and there stood his father.
“I don’t even recognize who you are anymore. Killing like that. How many more lives can you take before you’ll be an empty shell, as empty as the veterans from the Great War? And don’t think I’ll call you son after all that.”
He knew it was the clown, knew it was fake, but fear and sadness and hurt seized his heart all the same, and he slapped at Ack Ack and Snafu until they woke up.
“Jesus shit,” Snafu scrambled towards the blasted open section of the wall, pointing his rifle at the clown. “Sledgehammer, move to the side. I’m endin’ this.”
Ack Ack’s hand was on the end of the rifle in a flash. “No, you won’t. It won’t work, and you’ll give away our position-”
“I think the Japanese know we’re fuckin’ here,” Snafu snapped. “And this asshole-”
To Eugene, it was just the clown now, but to Snafu it was clearly something else. His face was contorted with fear, a tear running down his cheek.
“It isn’t real; don’t look at him,” Ack Ack said, turning Snafu’s face towards him even as the clown continued to approach them. “You’re sitting in the dirt in a godforsaken airfield in the Pacific, so whatever or whoever it looks like right now can’t be here.”
Snafu snapped out of it, shaking his head and wiping away the tears. “Please let me shoot him. We have to do somethin’.”
The clown opened its mouth to speak, but the shriek of a mortar interrupted it.
They huddled against the wall, waiting for the ringing in their ears to abate before moving away from it.
The clown was huddled with them, holding onto Snafu’s waist like it was the only thing tethering it to earth.
“Um. Don’t,” Snafu grimaced and wiggled away from the clown’s hand.
“What hell is this?” the clown asked, and they stared at it.
“Sorry?” Ack Ack laughed. “Are you...you are, aren’t you? Scared shitless. What, the cursed pit you rolled out of doesn’t have war?”
“Those things kill your kind,” the clown continued. “I can see it...blood and bone and gristle.” It stared at its hands and Eugene noticed they shook.
“Yeah. That’s what bullets and mortars and flame-throwers tend to do to people,” he said. “Are you...gonna get around to tryin’ to kill us or...”
The clown shook its head. “I should not have followed. This is...this is unholy.”
“So are you, you nasty motherfucker,” Snafu said. “We gotta join up and head out with everyone else so-”
“Do not leave me!” the clown was on its knees, scrabbling to tug at Snafu’s jacket.
“For fuck’s sake,” Snafu groaned. “Stop touchin’ me!”
“Can you not just...go?” Ack Ack asked. “I mean, back home you could go anywhere.”
“Do you see any goddamned sewers here?!” the clown shrieked. “I followed that one on a boat.”
Eugene glared as the clown pointed at him. “Well, I didn’t ask you to follow me! That’s your problem, and your fault!”
The clown sobbed, and they exchanged looks.
“Um. I guess you can stick around with us until someone gets their million dollar wound and gets to go home. I wouldn’t wish you on anyone, but you can follow them back to the States, but you can’t hurt a hair on anyone’s head, do you got me?” Ack Ack said, in the same tone he used for misbehaving soldiers.
“I am not even hungry,” the clown whimpered. “Who could hunger during so much bloodshed?”
The sound of Snafu working on a tin of K rations made the clown shriek again, and they laughed.
“Snafu can,” Ack Ack snickered. “You want to be kept safe from anything that can kill you here? Then he’s gotta eat his rations, so he can be big and strong and scary against the Japanese waiting for us.”
Snafu grinned, in a way that gave Eugene a shiver down his spine, but he smiled too as Snafu directed it towards the clown. “I think I want you to stay. I like you like this. Scared outta your wits, not even able to try and kill anyone. You oughta stay here. Maybe buried under a shit ton of coral, if we could ever dig any of it up.”
“No, no, no,” the clown sat back and rocked back and forth, and they laughed again.
“C’mon. We gotta move,” Ack Ack directed, and led them and the clown back towards the rest of the company.
It was strange, at first, the clown walking behind him, clinging so close he swore that in another moment he’d end up carrying him piggyback through the trees.
Ack Ack was up front, but Eugene could feel his eyes occasionally watching them, and the thing behind them. It was reassuring, even if the clown was basically harmless now, gagging every time they passed a corpse.
“You eat people, you seriously gonna keep gagging like that?” Snafu asked as they dug in for the night, miles away. “I mean...really.”
“This is different!” the clown spat, and Eugene rolled his eyes.
“What? Cause it isn’t fresh meat?”
“No. Different...fear. Different death. It would taste like poison,” the clown said coldly. “Wasted meat.”
“Oh, just wasted meat,” Snafu said. “Hear that, Sledgehammer? He’s just mad this ain’t the perfect buffet for him. Ass.”
“That is not all that I meant,” the clown stuttered, but they both ignored it as it tried to keep talking. There was digging in to complete, cold K rations to heat up and eat, and then a little bit of sleep to try and get before the next battle operation.
Snafu roused him from his sleep far sooner than he wanted, and pointed to the space that had become No Man’s Land. “Lookit this dumbass.”
The clown was wandering No Man’s Land, weeping over the corpses there from previous battles. Before he could run, a Japanese mortar shot out and right through him.
“Holy shit,” Eugene whispered. “Is that...I mean...”
But the clown lived, not bleeding but instead running back to them with bits of its broken form turning into wisps and floating off into the night sky.
“Look!” It shrieked, and Eugene was grateful no one else other than them and Ack Ack seemed to be able to hear it. “Look at what they’ve done to me!”
“You went wanderin’ around like you were takin’ a walk around town. The hell did you think was gonna happen?” Snafu chuckled. “Shame it seems you can’t be killed. Japanese nearly solved our problem for us.”
The clown scowled, and dropped into the foxhole, the hole in its torso slowly disappearing as parts of it reformed. “I hate it here.”
They shared a joyful glance, and bit back laughter.
“Welcome to the club. Everybody hates it here. Hell, even the asshole crabs and the Japanese probably hate it here now. This here is a wasteland of fear and death and disease, and nobody wants to be stuck in it, but we are,” Snafu said. “You better get mean and deal, or we’re just gonna leave you here.”
“You can’t,” the clown begged.
“We can. In fact, so far as I can tell and you’ve mentioned, this is the only place we could truly get away from you once we go back to the States,” Eugene said sharply. “So sit the fuck down, and stay down. Or you’ll starve here on this island.”
What the clown didn’t know, was about the small slips of paper Ack Ack had passed them the last few times he’d been near them, once while marching and then again during dinner, detailing a plan. The plan was just that, to find a spot to trap the clown and leave it. They couldn’t let it make it back to the States, or anywhere else. The island was so ruined that even if folks did inhabit it later, they’d have already seen enough hell to likely not be afraid of it. It would be toothless, unable to survive, and would starve until it died-or did whatever it did when it couldn’t find people to scare and eat.
A firefight broke out, and kept them busy for the next few hours, while the clown huddled and shook beside them, muttering about how badly it wanted to leave.
When they were finally able to move out again, with the corpsmen treating their wounded, they had their chance.
Before the clown could move, Snafu bashed it over the head with a particularly large bit of coral. They waited for it to move, to do something, as the bit of its skull that had been indented turned to wisps. But it stayed down, apparently dead or at the very least wounded heavily enough to be knocked out.
“Holy shit I think we got this. Move!” Eugene shouted, and they scrambled out of the foxhole, filling it back in as quickly as they could, tossing hunks of coral on top of it. It wasn’t a foolproof way to keep it down, but it was better than letting it continue to follow them.
“The fuck is wrong with you two?” a Marine shouted from a few yards away.
“Crab in the damn foxhole!” Snafu shouted back. “He’s dead now.”
“He better be,” Eugene sighed as they fell in with the rest of the company, walking on towards their next assignment. He caught Ack Ack’s eye as they walked, and they shared a nod. It was over. It had to be. And it was over before it had even started for maybe hundreds of kids back at home, who might have been tormented by it.
“Can’t believe it was such a fuckin’ coward,” Snafu said, later that day as they were told to settle in yet again.
“I can. Thing like that can only be a coward,” Eugene scoffed. “Doesn’t matter now, anyway. The thing is dead, and now all we gotta worry about is...”
“Stayin’ alive?” Snafu finished, a grim look on his face.
“...yeah,” Eugene sighed. If only the rest of it was so easy.
“Y’know...might need to check things out once we get home. If we get home,” Snafu said. “Just in case that fucker somehow gets out. Really shouldn’t do that alone.”
“You’d come to Mobile and make sure I’d be safe from it there?”
Snafu nodded. “But only if you come to New Orleans and help me check out my place.”
“I could do that,” Eugene said. It sounded nice, to possibly spend time with Snafu outside of a foxhole, after they’d both had an actual shower. “It’s a date.”
He froze as soon as he said it, feeling a blush heat up his face. But Snafu looked just the same, red as could be, staring at the ground like he was being paid to look at it.
Eugene tried to distract himself from considering what a date with Snafu might entail, but failed miserably even as he tried to focus on keeping watch, for Japanese or a flash of clown hair and clothing.
He was distracted enough from his watch to miss it-standing over near the hiding Japanese troops.
A vision of Snafu, warped due to the thing’s wounds, with a bullet hole in its forehead.

High School Reunion
Word Count: 1,826
Player: Tyler Seguin
Warning: Cussing
Requested: No
Authors note: I had this super random idea pop into my head last night when I was scrolling through facebook (idk why I would ever do that, I was bored I guess) and I saw a bunch of girls I graduated high school with who have gotten married and have kids, and I never want to go to my reunion it doesn’t interest me, but the only way I would go is if this was my situation lol. Hope you all enjoy this silly little blurb I wrote at 5am xD
"Tyler I don't want to go." I groaned and sat on the edge of the bed.
"Babe come on, it's just for a few hours!"
I sighed and stared up at the ceiling. "I don't think you really understand Ty. You have always been a hot shot hockey player, and I'm sure all the girls wanted you back in school. I was not someone that anyone paid attention to. I wore oversized sweatshirts and sweatpants to school almost everyday. I didn't care to attract any guys because none of them from here are my type anyways, but even the 'friends' that I had in school were fucking liars. There was only one, MAYBE two that were actually my friends-"
"Hey," Tyler gently put his hands on either side of my face and pulled my head down so I was looking at him. "Babe you are better than all of those people. Go in there and show them that!"
I sighed and looked into his eyes, smiling a bit. "I mean I did somehow end up with the hottest NHL player..." I laughed and he just shook his head, smiling back at me.
"That's not what I mean babe and you know it. You own your own business back home, and you kick ass at it! Plus you look hot as fuck, and from what I remember you telling me about some of those girls.. I want you to prove them wrong."
I looked down and nodded. Most of the girls had actually been nice to my face in high school, but there were some fat jokes made in my direction at some point when I was younger. I had hoped that I was going to be able to get away with not going to my stupid 10 year reunion, living so far away that would of been easy to pass off. However it just happened to be that the Dallas Stars were playing against the Boston Bruins last night, and had three days off before their next home game. That meant Tyler and I drove three hours to my home town after the game last night, which they won of course.
"Alright alright fine. But only because you are going to be there."
"By your side all night I promise," Tyler smiled and pressed a kiss to my lips before pulling me to my feet off the bed and walking out to the rental car.
Wow I hadn't been here in 10 years. Looked the exact same though. Once I graduated this hell hole I never looked back, but here I was, walking into the back entrance headed into the gym. I looked around, seeing a number of people I recognized, but was trying to ignore.
"Oh shit babe. Go inside I'll be right back I left my wallet in the car."
"What? No I'll just go with you."
"Baby I'll be two seconds. I'll find you I promise," he smiled and gave me a quick kiss before running back towards the car.
My safety blanket was now gone, and I wasn't sure what to do. I sighed and walked into the doors, not really sure why I was actually here. The only person I was looking forward to seeing was an old coworker of mine and good friend, however the only reason she was even going to be here was because her husband graduated with me. Other than her there were only two other people I use to be friends with back in high school, but honestly we never talked anymore.
I lied. I knew the real reason why I came to this stupid thing, besides Tyler basically dragging me here. I was a very successful business owner back in Dallas and I was proud of that. I also happened to have the most handsome and talented husband here, except right now he was at the car and now I was standing here signing my name on a piece of paper for a dumb name tag.
"Thanks," I smiled to the lady on the other side of the table and stuck the name tag onto my dress.
I walked into the gym, looking around and seeing a lot of people that I recognized. I sighed softly seeing a few eyes lingering on me for a bit longer than I liked.
"I'm surprised shes here, I heard she moved to Dallas."
Oh yeah here it goes.
"She looks way different than back in high school."
"Yeah at least she's not wearing that stupid oversize sweatshirt and sweatpants like she always use to."
I didn't even want to know who it was talking about me, nor did I really care, or at least I was trying to not care. I just really wished Tyler would hurry up.
I made my way over to a table and sat down, looking around for my friend. She had texted me earlier and said they were here but I had yet to find her. I pulled my phone out and sent her a quick text to let her know where I was.
"Aw she's alone," a girls voice said.
"Are you surprised? She never dated anyone in high school, and she always hung out with the weird kids"
I rolled my eyes and kept pretending to text.
"Whoa who is that?"
"Is that Tyler Seguin?"
"Wasn't he on the Bruins a while ago?"
"Yeah what the fuck is he doing here?"
I smiled and looked up, watching him scan the room for me. Now was my chance to confuse the fuck out everyone and I was going to love this.
"Ty!" I called out, smiling as his head looked in my direction.
"Hey babe," He smiled and walked over to where I was sitting, grabbing a seat next to me.
"No. fucking. way,” one of the male voices, that had been mixed in with the rest of the whispered confusion about Tyler, said.
I smiled and leaned forward, pressing my lips to his and the interlocking our fingers together.
"Find your wallet?" I smiled at him.
"Yes," he laughed. "Where's Em?"
"Not sure yet, I texted her to let her know I'm here."
"Oh okay. Do you want me to go grab you something to drink?"
"That would be great," I smiled and let go of his hand as he got up and made his way over to the drink table.
"Brooke?"
I looked up to the voice that vaguely sounded familiar. "Hey Cassy," I smiled. She had actually been one of the nicer ones in school, though we never hung out outside of class or anything she had never been mean to me at least.
"Is that your husband?" She asked pointing to Tyler.
I smiled and nodded. "Yeah."
"Damn girl!" She laughed and turned to introduce me to her boyfriend of three years.
"I heard you moved to California?" I asked her.
"Yeah I did some modeling after high school and then just kind of drifted around until I found this one. What about you?"
"Down in Dallas now. Opened my own business down there, met him at an event I was attending. We had mutual friends and crossed paths a few times. I knew who he was way before he knew who I was though," I laughed.
"Oh?"
"Yeah. I love hockey and he plays in the NHL. Used to be on the Bruins but now he’s the star down in Dallas," I smiled as he made his way back over to the table.
"Jesus," Cassy said softly, but I for sure heard her.
"Here you go babe," Tyler smiled and set a glass in front of me.
"Ty, this is Cassy and Blake. She was in a few of my classes in high school. She was one of the nice ones," I laughed.
"Nice to meet you," Tyler smiled and shook both of their hands.
"Brooke!"
I would know that voice anywhere.
"Em!" I smiled and stood up, giving her a big hug.
"Missed you bitch!"
I laughed and shook my head. "Missed you too slut."
"You would never know they were so close," Tyler laughed, Em's husband laughing and agreeing with Tyler.
The night had gone on for a few hours, no more whispered comments were heard for the rest of the night, even a few of the people had come up to Tyler and asked for a picture. He would look at me each time, silently asking if they were nice to me in school. Most of them were okay, but a few of them I didn't like so he would tell them no, which made me smile and them mad.
"Thanks for forcing me to go," I smiled as we walked out of the school hand in hand.
Tyler laughed. "You didn't look like you were forced once you got comfortable, which I knew you would. You had some friends there still."
"Yeah just ones that I'll talk with at high school reunions that's all."
"That's okay babe," he smiled and pressed a kiss to my temple.
"You were a big shot in there though. Did you think it was going to turn into a mini media tour for you?"
"Well I did play in Boston a number of years ago, I assumed someone might recognize me. Not as many as that but hey I was glad that I got to go with you. Seeing the looks on their faces-"
"When they saw I was with you? Yeah I know," I laughed.
"No babe, it had nothing to do with me."
"Oh Ty... that's where you are wrong. All of those people probably assumed I would end up alone or something, not with someone as handsome and as talented as you. But you know what? I feel more lucky that I got to show off you. Sure I feel comfortable in my skin now, but to prove all of those snotty girls wrong and have a hotter husband than them? That was awesome," I smiled.
Tyler laughed and opened my car door for me. "Well I'm happy to of helped. But I'm the one who won having the hottest partner, and don't even think about denying it," He smiled and shut my car door.
I smiled to myself and looked down to my wedding band, twisting it around a bit. I sure was lucky to be with Tyler, and as much fun as it was to rub in the popular girls faces that I ended up with an NHL player, I honestly couldn't care less where we lived, or what he did for work. He loved me and I loved him and that was all that mattered.
Tyler got in and leaned over, pressing a kiss to the corner of my mouth and smiled. "Let's go home," he said starting the car and pulling out of the parking lot.
"Good idea," I whispered as I watched the school disappear in the rear view mirror.

“Do you have the answer for number 5?” You asked, peeking at your best friend’s paper.
“Hey, no cheating,” Peter said, covering his paper even though it wasn’t actually cheating. Your teacher gave you a take-home test to do. He knew the risks of giving his students a test to take home. Everyone would be cheating.
“Peter Parker, what did you get for number 5?” You asked again, pushing at his arm so you can see his answer. He just laughed and let you see his answer to which you copied on your own paper.
“We should take a break or something.” Peter began but you cut him off.
“We just took a break 5 minutes ago. No, we’re doing this test and then we can take a break. Now, come on, let’s do number 6.” You said trying to convince him as he groaned but did as he was told anyway.
You spent most of your days like this, with Peter in his room. Nothing ever happened between you two although you wished it did. You liked Peter a lot, in fact, you’ve liked him since you met him at the start of high school. You were friends with Ned before coming to this school and through Ned, you met Peter.
He was the dorky, shy, nerdy guy that no one ever really paid attention to. Yes, he had a bully which gave him unwanted attention but you and Ned were always there to back him up. Everyone knew, including Flash, that you would kick anyone’s ass if they ever hurt Peter. You knew Flash’s comments hurt Peter but he never showed it.
You and Peter had become good friends after the first time you stood up for him, and you’ve been going on strong ever since. Every day you would come over to do some homework before he had to cut the date short. Sometimes, when Peter left to do what he needed to do, you would hang with Aunt May and get to know Peter way before you even met him. She knew of your little crush on him but you begged her not to tell. She didn’t of course, but that didn’t stop her from encouraging you to go for it with him.
You wanted to tell him how you felt but he had a crush on Liz, a senior. You two were only sophomores but that didn’t stop him from gushing over her. It bothered you a little bit but she wasn’t the one hanging out with Peter every day after school, you were.
“Okay, what did you get for number 6?” You asked, looking up from your paper to see Peter on his phone to which you groaned. “Peter!”
“I’m sorry, Ned just texted me. He needs me right now so I’m going to have to cut this short. I’m sorry but you need to go.” He said in a rush, getting up without bothering to put away his homework. Of course. It’s not like you weren’t expecting this to happen.
“Oh, is he okay?” You asked, already packing up your things.
“Yeah, I just need to help him. I’m sorry, Y/N.”
“No, it’s okay. Hope you can figure things out with him.” You slung your backpack over your shoulder as he escorted you out of his room and out of his apartment. Aunt May wasn’t home so you couldn’t hang out with her.
“I’ll see you tomorrow at school,” Peter said with a smile before closing the door. You frowned and sighed, walking away from his door. You only lived a few blocks down the street so it wasn’t a far walk. You hated when Peter did this. It seems like Ned is always having problems but you didn't know why Ned didn’t text you about it. You were, in fact, his friend too.
You were just worried for Peter since he always did this to you. One time you were hanging with Peter and Aunt May when Ned called and asked for Peter. One time, you and Peter were out shopping for your mom’s birthday but instead of Ned needing him, it was the stupid Stark internship that needed him.
You were proud of Peter for getting an internship with freaking Iron Man but it took up most of his time. You didn’t know what he did, where he went or when he would be back. You always saw him the next day at school, sometimes with cuts and bruises on his body and sometimes not. You were this close to going down to Tony Stark himself and giving him a piece of your mind but you knew better. This was the opportunity of a lifetime for Peter, you couldn’t ruin it for your own selfish reasons.
It might harm his internship and you wouldn’t do that to Peter. You just wished you knew what was going on and where he was headed all the time.
“Was everything okay with Ned?” You asked Peter, picking apart your salad and taking out the things you didn't want. They got your order wrong but you didn't mind since they only added baby tomatoes. Peter usually ate them so you put them on his plate next to his sandwich.
“What?” Peter asked, looking at you with a confused look.
“Ned called you last night saying he needed you?”
“Oh, right, he’s good. Nothing major.” Peter took a bite of his sandwich. You nodded and looked at your surroundings. You and Peter decided to go to a cafe for lunch since it was Saturday and there was no school. It wasn’t busy at all since you had an early lunch but you enjoyed the silence around you. Queens was a busy place normally so you savored the silence as much as possible.
“Okay, well the Incredibles 2 just came out. I’m free next weekend if you want to go with me. I can ask Ned and Michelle if they want to join us or it could be just us, I don’t know, whatever you want to do.” You rambled. You looked up to see Peter smiling at you which made you shut up.
“Yeah, next weekend is perfect. I know Ned is busy since his family is going out of town but you can ask Michelle if she would like to come.”
“Okay! I am so excited for this movie! I loved the first one…” You trailed off when you heard police sirens coming your way. It wasn’t uncommon to hear police sirens in New York but when there was a whole fleet of them, it was big. You looked over your shoulder to see 4 or 5 police cars chasing a guy in a beat-up car with a gun, shooting at the police. You gasped but they were out of sight as soon as they disappeared.
“Wow, that looks serious, I hope no one gets hurt.” You said as you turned around but Peter wasn’t there.
“Peter?” You called out, looking around you but not finding the lanky boy. You sighed and saw some money on top of his sandwich but no Peter and no Peter’s backpack. Where the hell did he go so quickly?
Today is the day you and Peter were going to see the Incredibles 2. You asked Michelle to come with you but she said she had a ton of homework to do which only left you and Peter. You tried not to think of this as a date because then you would just get nervous and you would probably end up saying the wrong thing.
You were a bit early to this… event… but you didn't mind waiting for your best friend. The streets were filled with cars and the sidewalk was filled with people. A lot of people were coming to see this movie so you hoped Peter would come quickly so you could get good seats.
As you were looking over the crowd, you thought you saw Peter’s head in the crowd but he was walking the wrong way. He was walking towards some alley but you didn't know why.
“Peter!” You called out which earned some stares but you ignored them. He didn’t hear you and you looked at your watch. You knew you two were going to miss this showing but you were fed up with him always disappearing on you. You sighed and walked in his direction, seeing him disappear around the corner and into the alleyway.
As you got closer to the alley, you heard grunts and crashing. You turned the corner and walked further into the alley but didn’t see Peter. No, you saw Spider-Man beating up some guy who was trying to rob the cowering figure in the corner. You didn't know what to do or how to help. Spider-Man was your favorite out of the Avengers but you never saw him this close.
The robber made a swing at Spider-Man but he was quick and used his web shooters, sticking him to the wall. It was enough to force to knock him out but he was taken care of. Spider-Man gathered the belongings of the person and handed it back to her, calming her down. He thanked him and ran off, ignoring you.
You were about to say something but he took off his mask. His back was still turned to you so you couldn’t see him well but that mop of hair looked very familiar. He pressed a phone against his ear and started to talk on it, turning around while doing so. Your eyes went wide and a loud gasp left your mouth when you saw it was Peter.
He looked up and made eye contact with you, freezing in his spot. He finished his conversation before hanging up.
“How long have you been standing there?” He asked with a nervous chuckle.
“You’re Spider-Man?” You asked, your jaw practically to the floor, walking further in the alley.
“I can explain…” Peter started but you weren’t done.
“This is what you’ve been doing when you disappear? Ned never needed you because when I asked him about it, he didn’t know what I was talking about!” You began to feel hurt that he would keep this from you.
“Look, if you would just let me explain…”
“Does May know about this?”
“No, only you know and Ned but that was only because he caught me while I was trying to sneak in.”
“Ned knew before I did? I’m your best friend, Peter.” You said, looking at him, hurt.
“I know you are and I’m sorry but Mr. Stark doesn’t want people to know. You won’t tell anyone, will you?”
“Of course, I won’t. You’ve met Tony Stark?” You asked.
“Not only met him, but I also worked with him. And Captain America. Oh, it was awesome! I want to tell you all about it but not here,” He said with a big smile. You found it hard to stay mad at him. “I’m so sorry. We had a date to go see the movie and I completely bailed on you.”
“Th-this was a date?” You stuttered, blushing hard. Peter chuckled and he scratched the back of his neck before walking closer to you.
“Yeah, I thought it was. I knew Michelle would be busy and Ned would be away. I just wanted it to be us...” He chuckled nervously.
“You know what? Forget the movie, I have my own superhero in front of me.” You grinned.
“You think I’m a superhero?”
“You save people all the time. Of course, I do. Now, where do you want to go so you can tell me everything?” You asked with an excited smile. Peter brought you in his arms after putting his mask back on.
“I guess you’ll just have to hold on then.” You giggled and wrapped your arms around his neck before he shot off into the air.

This is really random but I saw a fic of yours about Amy being sick (I think the prompt was "Amy yells at the Vulture") but I can't find the full piece anywhere. Is it on AO3 anywhere? I love your writing and I completely understand if you just didn't want it out anymore. Just thought I'd ask! :)
i thought it was but i just went and searched my entire work history (including all 70+ chapters of those god-forsaken oneshot collections) and i couldn’t find it anywhere!! i guess i forgot to cross-post it back when i first wrote it, and it got lost when i deleted the original elsaclack. but i just scoured my docs list and found it buried in a random folder so i’ll repost it here and add it to the newest one-shot collection on ao3 :)
fun fact: this was written almost exactly 2 years ago!!! meaning that my writing skills have developed considerably since i actually wrote this. aka please don’t judge me if this seems like a sudden regression haha
also i wanna tag @phil-the-stone-art bc we actually developed the concept of The List together so she’s at least 35% responsible for this fic lmao
under the cut!
Amy Santiago does not get sick, thank you very much. She prides herself on her meticulous nightly hygienic rituals, on the cabinet full of multivitamins and minerals she takes on a daily basis in her bathroom, on the rigorous workout routine and diet she keeps herself on each week to maintain perfect health. She lives her life by a very tight plan (laid out in checklists and carefully organized in color-coded binders) that simply does not afford her any extra time to be sick.
Which is why, when she wakes up one Tuesday morning with a head stuffed full of cotton and violent shivers rolling down her spine, she gets up to start her usual routine in spite of the fact that she feels like she hasn’t actually slept in three weeks. Jake’s still snoring on the other side of the bed, another hour away from getting up to haphazardly dress in whatever flannel he can find lying on her bedroom floor that doesn’t smell too dirty, and he doesn’t even stir at the sound of her shuffling footsteps or running nose.
She drags herself into the bathroom, shuts the door, and flicks the lights on. Her reflection honestly makes her jump back an inch or two; she’s never seen her skin quite so pale, or bruises beneath her eyes quite so dark, or her lips quite so visibly dry and cracked. She reaches out to grip the edges of her sink and realizes that her arms and hands are trembling, and when she leans a bit more weight onto them she notes that her knees are quaking beneath her.
All in all, not a great start to the day.
She presses on, though, ignoring her running nose and congested head and general exhaustion. The shower helps a little, but not much.
When she shuts the water off, she hears Jake moving around in her bedroom, and her heart skips a beat. She hadn’t even realized she’d been in the shower that long. “Jake?” She calls as she wraps a towel around herself. Her voice is coarse and rough.
“Hey,” he knocks lightly at the door. “You okay?”
“Yeah - yeah, could you, um…there’s a binder out on the dining room table, should say something on the cover about that case I was working on last night -” she clears her throat and winces at the sharp pain that responds “- could you grab it and put it in my bag?”
“Sure,” he’s quiet for a moment and Amy’s left to gently rub at her temples with the heels of her hands. “Are you sure you’re okay? You sound awful.”
“I’m…I’m fine.”
But she’s not. Her knees are still quaking and vertigo has suddenly set in and she’s swaying, reaching out to grab the tiled edge of her shower. Her hand slips against the wet surface and she falls forward, shoulder banging painfully into the tiles.
The door swings open and Jake bursts inside in a panic. “Ames? Oh my God!” She suddenly realizes that she’d sunk down to a crouching position upon falling. He kneels next to her, gently pulling her away from the shower and letting her lean heavily into him. Her head falls against his shoulder, forehead pressed to the crook of his neck, and she hears him tut. “You’re burning up, babe,” he says quietly.
“I’m fine,” her voice fails half-way through and she ends up finishing in an unconvincing whisper.
“You’re not going to work today,” he tells her.
“But -”
“You almost fainted just now, Amy. You’re staying home sick today.”
She tries to argue but he pulls her up off the ground, keeping his touch firm and steady should gravity leave her again, and her voice completely dies on the way out of the bathroom. He lets her whisper weak arguments as he steers her gently toward the bed, humming and nodding along as he pulls fresh sweatpants up her legs and eases one of his academy shirts over her head. He pushes back on her good shoulder with just enough force that she lays down and pulls the comforter up to her chin. Her eyelids flutter closed when he presses a kiss against her forehead.
“I’ll tell Captain Holt where you are,” he says quietly. His hand finds hers against the mattress, fingers twisting through hers. “Get some sleep, okay?”
She’s asleep before he even gets out the front door.
A few hours later she’s roused by the sound of her phone vibrating on her bedside table. Sunlight streams in through her window and she squints, disoriented, fumbling around with semi-numb fingers for her phone.
From: Jake PeraltaHow u feelin? Miss u at work. Charles says he’ll bring u goat soup later lol
It hurts to even swallow, and Amy has to work really hard to keep from whining at the splitting headache igniting behind her right eye.
To: Jake PeraltaFeel like garbage. I haev a headache. Im afraid to get out of bed for meds. Miss u too
She waits five minutes for him to respond, and when her phone remains motionless, she closes her eyes and lets it fall against her chest.
Precisely twenty minutes after that, she hears her front door open. It closes again and she hears footsteps crossing her living room and it only just hits her that someone is in her apartment when those footsteps cross the threshold of her bedroom.
“Hey, hey, don’t get out of bed,” Jake says soothingly. Amy falls back against her pillow from her struggling half-sitting up position as Jake drops a plastic grocery bag at the foot of her bed and perches on the edge of the mattress beside her. He replaces her phone back on her bedside table with one hand and smooths his other palm over her forehead (and she only just then realizes that she’s sweating) and grimaces. “You’re still burning up,” he says, running his fingers through her hair just above her forehead.
“I’m fine,” she whispers, and the words slip out between two wet coughs.
He frowns and gently scratches his short nails against her scalp. “I brought Advil,” he says, casting an absent glance over his shoulder at the bag he brought in, “and stuff to make soup. It’s the recipe for Nana’s matzoh ball soup.” She raises her eyebrows beneath his palm and he grins down at her. “Don’t tell Charles, but it’s literally the best soup you’ll ever have and it’ll cure your dumb cold in twenty minutes or less.”
“Promise?”
He leans down and pecks a kiss against her forehead. “Promise,” he says when he leans away. “I’m gonna go make some and bring it in here and you’ll be back on your feet before the end of the day. Peralta Guarantee.” He winks.
She sinks down into the mattress as much as she can when he stands up, opening her eyes only when he comes back in with two Advil tablets and a glass half-full of water. Within minutes she begins hearing pots and pans knock around in her kitchen, and through her cloudy mind she registers that her stomach is rumbling in irritation.
“Alright,” he announces from her doorway. Her eyes split open and he’s carefully balancing the soup bowl on top of her dresser. “I’ll help you sit up, don’t move.”
He pulls her up with one hand and waits until she’s sitting up steadily before hurriedly stacking her pillows up behind her. She breathes a sigh of relief when she leans back, not realizing just how much of a strain sitting up is until that moment. He hurries back to where the soup is still steaming and carefully brings it over to her, the tip of his tongue appearing at the corner of his mouth for how hard he has to concentrate on not spilling any.
He nestles it in her lap, and she smiles, because he looks so proud of himself and he’s really so adorable.
Jake stays with her until she finishes the whole bowl and then he takes her dishes from her and quickly rinses them out in her sink.
“I’ll be back after work to check on you and to finish cleaning that, okay?” He calls from her doorway.
She hums hoarsely and fades out of consciousness.
An hour later, Amy wakes up feeling half-human. Her head and throat still hurt and she still can’t breathe out of her nose, but her brain doesn’t feel quite so fried and her limbs don’t feel quite so weak anymore.
Jake was right - the soup really did help.
Not as much as Nyquil would, but…still.
She kicks the comforter off and moves to sit up, and her phone suddenly falls into her lap from her chest. She pauses, staring at it, trying to remember when it ended up back there. She has no new calls or texts, but when she unlocks the screen, there’s a new note pulled up.
Things i want t odo to jake in bed
Amy feels flames engulf her face that have absolutely nothing to do with her fever. The list has twelve items on it, each one raunchier and riddled with more spelling errors than the last, and by the time she gets to the end of the note she’s covering her face in embarrassment. She’s got just the vaguest memory of typing it (and it’s really more of a dream of a memory than anything else), but none of it will solidify into more than just faint snapshots in her head.
But the more she rereads it, the more heat begins building in her body - heat from the mental images, heat from the germs ravaging her body, heat from the thick comforter still draped over her legs.
She has got to go get some Nyquil.
Santiago Determination blazes through her as she drags herself out of bed, shoulders set and jaw clenched as she pulls one of Jake’s hoodies over her frame and slides her feet into her rarely-worn flip-flops. Part of her feels guilty, knowing that if Jake was the one home sick she’d insist on him texting her anything he needs so that he would stay in bed and recover faster, but she brushes it off as she grabs her purse.
What he doesn’t know won’t hurt him, right?
She blames her scattered brain on the matzoh ball soup later. She blames her compromised detective skills and her lack of attention to detail and her general disorientation on the soup. Because under normal circumstances, no matter how sick she truly is, she would definitely have noticed the Vulture browsing the low aisles of the bodega around the corner from her house immediately upon walking through the front doors.
But as it is, she doesn’t, which means that he gets a visual on her before she’s even aware of being spotted.
She’s so busy perusing the medicine section toward the back that she doesn’t notice him stalking around the shelves, doesn’t feel him peeking around the Doctor Scholl’s cardboard display, doesn’t hear him mutter at a mother and daughter to get out of his way as he follows her ambling walk down the aisle. She isn’t aware of the danger until he’s basically on top of her.
“Yo, Santiago,” he says, his voice low and curdling. She winces and turns slowly, and he’s leaned against the shelves to her left, leering down at her. A handcart hangs between them; it’s full of at least thirty boxes of condoms, she realizes when she glances down. Her stomach shifts unpleasantly. “You look homeless.”
“Get out of the way,” she whispers hoarsely.
“Aw, what’s the matter? Peralta got you screaming so hard every night you lost your voice?”
Heat bursts through her cheeks and she glances back, meeting the scandalized look on that same mother’s face with an apologetic grimace. “Shut up.” She snaps as fiercely as she can.
He smirks, because her voice only comes in bursts. “Damn, you really let yourself go, didn’t you?” His eyes rove her body and she’s suddenly very keenly aware of the fact that she’s not wearing any underwear beneath her sweatpants. She can feel her face blossoming.
“Whatever.” She turns away quickly and digs her phone out of her purse, cursing when she hears the Vulture following her down the aisle. She dials Jake’s number quickly, and he answers after just two rings.
“Hey, is everything oka-”
“I need you go come to the bodega by my apartment,” she whispers. She can feel her hand trembling again and she curses whatever part of her thought it would be a good idea to do this on her own.
“Wait, what? Why are you -”
“I thought I could walk over here and get what I needed without you, but -” she winces at the sound of the Vulture’s laugh, loud and obnoxious behind her. “But I ran into someone and I need you to come save me.”
“Santiago, look - they do make extra-small condoms! Should I put a whole box in for you and Peralta or is that too many?”
She hears a sharp intake of breath on the other end of the line. “Is that the Vulture?” He asks quietly.
“Yeah.”
“I’ll be there in ten minutes. Do not faint.”
“I’m doing my best, but please hurry.”
Amy starts pacing up and down the aisles, doing her best to block the Vulture out. He trails along behind her, alternating between making lewd sexual innuendos about random items on the shelves they pass (“Everything’s a sex toy if you try hard enough,” while pointing out a plastic broom) and insulting her general appearance (“Y’know, you were much sexier before Peralta dragged you down to his level of ugliness. Just make sure your ass doesn’t get as fat as his”). It’s around the time they make it back to the medicine aisle that he turns to making fun of Jake himself.
“I still can’t believe you’re with that loser,” he laughs as Amy finally swipes a bottle of Nyquil off a lower shelf. She stands up slowly, gripping the shelves above her firmly, as a wave of vertigo hits her once again. “You’re hot as shit usually - not right now, obviously - I bet you could sleep with any guy you want.”
She clenches her jaw and tries to calculate how long it’s been since she hung up with Jake.
“I bet the sex is really boring, too,” the Vulture continues. “I bet it’s all missionary and full of, like, eye-contact and shit. I bet he tells you he loves you because you don’t make fun of his tiny weiner.”
“Okay, y’know what?” She snaps, and suddenly her voice is half back. “First of all, there’s nothing wrong with missionary if you do it right. Secondly, you’re full of crap if you really think eye-contact is boring. Third, you’re right, he does tell me he loves me, because he actually loves me, you sexist pig. And fourth, he’s not tiny.”
“Whatever. He’s a joke, just like you, and I bet the sex sucks and you’re both so bad at it that you can’t even tell that it sucks.”
She knows people are staring, but her brain just isn’t functioning right. She yanks her phone out of her purse and quickly scrolls over to her list. “Jake’s the best sex I’ve ever had, okay? In fact, he’s so good that I made a list!” She shoves her phone in his face and scrolls quickly, grinning in manic triumph at the dumbfounded look on his face. “I made a list of all the things I want to do with him because he’s so unbelievably good. You wish you were as good as him.”
He is, for once, speechless. Amy locks her phone and steps back, smug grin on her face. The Vulture’s eyes flicker to something over her shoulder and she sees the spark of recognition in his face; when she turns, she feels her stomach drop down to her toes.
Jake’s standing at the end of the aisle, looking just as dumbstruck as the Vulture. She gasps, and the sound comes out like a ragged squeak. His mouth is hanging open but his brows draw together at the sound.
“Ja- Jake,” she says hoarsely.
This seems to snap him out of his stupor. His mouth snaps closed and he immediately begins striding down the aisle toward her and there’s something new in his eyes - smug and barely-contained glee, maybe - when he throws his arm around her shoulders. “Hi, honey,” he says, laying a kiss against her temple and pulling the bottle of Nyquil from her grasp. “Let’s get you back in bed.”
“Yeah, well, you’re both a couple of losers!” The Vulture shouts after them. Jake twists around and flashes his middle finger at him and grins into Amy’s hair at the sound of his splutters. “I’m buying thirty-five boxes of condoms!”
“You’re amazing.” Jake murmurs once they’re outside of the store. “But next time, just call me instead of trying to go get stuff on your own. I really don’t mind doing it for you. That’s what boyfriends are for.”
She sinks into the passenger’s seat of his car and sighs in relief; her body is already aching from the exertion of just a lap around the bodega. She feels Jake slide in on the driver’s side, feels the engine roar to life beneath her and the air conditioner tickle across her face. The car lurches a little when he puts it in drive and then his free hand finds hers and interlaces their fingers.
“I’m sorry about…that.” She whispers once he’s pulled away from the curb.
“It’s fine, but I really mean it about calling me next time, okay? ‘Specially since you almost fainted this morning and everything, like, what would’ve happened if you’d fallen and hit your head and they took you to the hospital? They would’ve called Manny and it would’ve taken him three hours to get here and -”
“Wait, no, they’d call you,” she interrupts. “Manny’s not my emergency contact anymore. You are.”
He turns his head toward her and stares.
“I changed it two years ago, Peralta. Way before we started dating. I just figured, y’know, since you’re my partner and everything, you’d be able to get there the fastest. And, besides, that’s not even what I was talking about. I meant…the stuff I said to the Vulture. The list.”
“Oh,” he shrugs. “I don’t really care. The guy’s an ass. I could hear him yelling all the way from the front doors. Besides, you weren’t lying.”
He squeezes her hand a few times in quick succession and she snorts. “So you’re…not mad? About any of it?”
“I’m more curious than anything else. Do I get to look at the list, too? Or is that just between you and the Vulture?”
“I can’t stand you.”
She does let him see it once they’re back to her place. He reads each item carefully three times over without ever saying a word, and then stands and grabs his laptop and a notepad off of her dining room table. When she asks what he’s doing, he responds with a muttered “research” and then promptly tells her to finish her soup.
The night passes in a haze that has nothing to do with the cold or the soup or the medicine, and the next morning she wakes to the sounds of Jake’s congested voice explaining through chest-rumbling coughs that neither he nor Amy would be making it into work that day.

Do You Have Any Idea?- Pt. 2

(the song is Sandman by Metallica, just fyi)

Something’s wrong, shut the light
Heavy thoughts tonight
And they aren’t of Snow White
The lyrics played softly through the radio of the junky car she’d stolen; it wasn’t her first, it certainly wasn’t her last, but the leather was soft and warm and let her sink right down to reach the gas pedal and see the road at the same time.
It was the only comforting thing she’d had in a while.
Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight
The car was also where she slept, so it was important to stay in a place that allowed her to get the 6 hours she needed to function. Everything she needed was in the back; her guns, knives, holy water and salt, to name a few. She bought some clothes some time ago, so she was set for a while. There were burger wrappers littered absentmindedly on the floor, accompanying the energy drinks and coffee cups beside them. Whenever she switched up vehicles, she made sure to clean up the car. DNA’s a bitch sometimes.
Exit: light
Enter: night
Take my hand
We’re off to never never land
She tried not to count the days since she first hijacked the car (245), tried not to count the states she’d driven through since she first pressed down on the pedals (18), tried maintain the sleep schedule she had (she couldn’t).
245 days later, 18 states over, driving on 3 hours of sleep.
Why was she driving again?
Hush little baby, don’t say a word
And never mind that noise you heard
It’s just the beasts under your bed
In your closet, in your head
She sped up, nodding her head absentmindedly to the beat of the song. She didn’t see any other cars on the road; it was just her, the car, the moon and the trees, all watching over her as she curved around the corners.
Y/N turned up the music. Maybe, just maybe, she could drown out her thoughts. She mouthed along to the lyrics, watching as the first few drops fell onto her window. Y/N had been so preoccupied she hadn’t even noticed the clouds starting to bunch up overhead, or the streetlamps on the side of the highway.
The lights turned around as she passed them, screeching against the pavement. Startled, she instinctively turned around. Unfortunately, so did her arms. She jerked to the side before correcting herself. The car behind her slammed on the brakes the same time she did.
Nobody moved for a minute. Y/N assessed her state, checking for anything broken, sprained, fractured. Nothing. She debated driving away- undoubtedly the safest option- but fought against it, too. She had to know who decided to swerve around like that. Were they okay? Were they trying to follow her? Could they follow her if she’d been moving towards them?
But, then again, luck wasn’t always in her favour.
Cursing, she reached into the backseat. Grabbing her gun, after checking it was loaded, she stepped out of her vehicle.
Slowly, she stalked towards the car. It was pouring by now, drenching her immediately. She shuddered, crouching low as she got to the car. She couldn’t see without the headlights of her car, and the other vehicle had turned off. Y/N tried to make out the shape of it, at least, but it was practically unidentifiable.
The more she focused, though, the more she became wary.
It wasn’t totally unrecognizable.
She heard the car door creak. Raising her gun, she saw something shift in the dark. Her gun pointed at the center of the black shape, she found her voice.
“Who the hell are you?” she called out. The figure froze, apparently just staring at her. Neither of them moved for a long minute.
“Hey,” she barked out again. “I said-”
“Y/N.”
Her voice caught in her throat.
What the hell?
“Y/N,” the man (his voice was low) called out again. “It-”
A large crack of thunder sounded overhead, causing the man to flinch, but Y/N remained unmoving. His voice was nearly incomprehensible in the rain, his silhouette still indistinguishable. The car was still a blur, though the sound of the engine still rang through her head. She tried to identify the car. It was too old to be a modern car, and it obviously wasn’t electric. If she inched closer, then maybe when lightning struck again-
BOOM
Her hands began to tremble.
“Dean?”
Neither of them moved.
Y/N had been sure that she’d lost him. She never kept the same car for more than three weeks, never appeared in any newspaper or magazine, always drove in random directions without a destination in sight. Hell, sometimes she’d roll a dice, pick a random destination. Her phone was ditched onto a bus a week after she left, and there was nothing else to track her down with.
“So,” she kept her voice monotone, shifting slightly, “how the hell did you find me?”
“Luck.” His voice croaked, like he didn’t quite believe this was real, yet at the same time wanted to stay in this false reality forever. He was soaked and so was she, but neither of them even seemed to notice.
Dean stepped forward. Y/N tensed on her gun.
“Y/N/N,” he frowned. “It’s me. Dean.”
“I’m well aware,” she snipped back. “I haven’t forgotten about…” she paused to look him over. “You.”
“Y/N.” He tried speaking soothingly, but she could tell he was getting impatient. “Do you have any idea how I feel-”
“Oh, ho.” She laughed coldly and dropped the gun to her side, savouring the feeling of months of anger and venom slowly crawling back into her gut. “Right. I’m sorry; how could I have forgotten that, in this entire mess, that you are the one suffering here! I shouldn’t be so selfish. It was totally and completely all my fault, right? You had nothing to do with anything at all.”
“I don’t think I deserve to be blamed for everything-” he started, heat beginning to fill his voice.
“You’re the one who showed up bloody on my doorstep, Dean!” She shouted, ignoring the pounding rain that threatened to drown out her voice. “I was the one to patch you up, after everything you did. You’re the one who took off while I was asleep. I thought- thought you were fucking dead, Dean! You left me- just took off, and left me grasping at empty bed sheets when I couldn’t handle the nightmares, because I dreamed of what could’ve happened to you. Do you even fucking know what I had to go through? I’ve always told myself that I’d at least- at least, I’d always have you-”
She cut herself short. Dean couldn’t even look at her.
It made Y/N fucking sick.
She let out an undignified yell of something incomprehensible, swinging her fist backwards towards the car window. A massive spiderweb crack exploded onto from where she struck with the gun she had forgotten she was holding, finally startling Dean. She barked out a laugh.
“Oh,” she drawled, “I need to break a fucking car to get you to look at me? You know Dean, I am so tired of you just- just- just doing things like this, pulling these stunts, over and over again! You tell yourself that you’re looking out for me, but really you’re just looking out to preserve yourself.”
Dean remained silent.
“Everything you have ever done was only for yourself.” Her voice was low, wavering either due to the tears welling in her eyes or the deep tone she was speaking in.
She didn’t know, didn’t care.
“You only love this family because you don’t know what to do without it.” She stared blankly at him, face unchanging from the dead stare she had locked it in. “You don’t love me for me; you love me because I was faithful to you, coming back when no one else would. You love what I gave you; not who I am.”
“You’re right.”
Of everything Y/N had expected to hear, that was not one of them. He wasn’t screaming, wasn’t shouting, wasn’t doing anything; he just stood there, face turned away from her, idly playing with the edge of his jacket.
This was wrong.
This wasn’t Y/N’s Dean. It couldn’t be.
“Dean-” she tried.
“No.” Dean’s shakey voice cut her off, wavering slightly. Something was on his face. “You’re right. I’m… I’m selfish. You and- and Sam; you’re all I had and I didn’t think about what you were… I never stopped to wonder if my family was the same as yours. I don’t…” His voice broke.
Neither of them knew what to say. Dean tried- he’d be damned if he didn’t- and he tried hard. But he didn’t know what else to say. Nothing that ever used to cheer her up was working. His little Y/N, the only one who ever truly stayed, was escaping him. She was sand falling through his fingers, but Dean never even knew he was holding her until the last bit fell.
Y/N didn’t know what to do. This was new: the emotions, the sentiment, the weird-as-hell bonding seminar. Normally, they’d just get into an argument and mull over it until they just… moved on.
Then again, Y/N could normally rely on Dean.
“What can I do?” Dean finally broke the silence, looking up at Y/N. He stepped towards her, ignoring Y/N freezing up when he did so. He stopped five feet away. He could see her shivering in the cold; she probably didn’t notice. She never did. He’d always hand her his jacket whenever they were out hunting. He pretended he didn’t notice her soft smile when he did.
“You’ve done enough.” Y/N kept her voice cold. She was still angry at Dean.
“What can I do?” He asked again. “Y/N, I can’t… I can’t deal, like this. Dad left and I got used to it. Sam… Sam left, and I- I managed to move on. But you…” His voice broke off at the end. He look directly at her now.
“Y/N/N,” he said, “I have no idea how to function without you.”
Y/N swallowed thickly. She stowed her gun in the back of her jeans, shuddering slightly in the cold. She didn’t care.
But apparently Dean did.
He walked slowly over to her, taking off his jacket as he did so. He wrapped it carefully around her, as though she’d break his arm if he did anything wrong.
“I’m sorry.” His voice was nearly drowned out by the rain, but he said it anyways. He felt as Y/N shifted, and he finally gave in and pulled her close.
Dean hadn’t noticed even himself shaking until he felt how still Y/N was. But she didn’t pull away.
She didn’t turn away, didn’t twist out of his arms. She didn’t quite move at all (though Dean swears he felt her lean forward a fraction of an inch.)
“I am so sorry,” he breathed out. “You have no idea.”
“It’s okay,” she whispered against his plaid shirt as the rain beat down on and around them, soaking their clothes. “I know.”

Get to Know the Author
@bosstoaster has been tagging me all night :P
1. How did you come up with your username and what does it mean?
I’ve had the name ‘Karma’ for about 17 years now? I don’t even remember where it came from. The ‘Velkyn’ got added a little over 10 years ago when I decided I wanted to get back into fic writing. But I was still in that phase where you think you’re supposed to ‘grow out’ of fandoms and writing fanfiction, so I didn’t want any of my friends to know I was doing it. I was embarrassed. It was silly. I picked a different handle, VelkynKarma, which actually means ‘hidden Karma.’ Later I just liked the name and also got over my embarrassment for fic writing and just started using it everywhere.
2. Which fanfic of yours has the most feedback? (bookmarks/subscriptions/hits/kudos).
No matter what statistic you look at, Routine Maintenance wins across the board by a large margin. Parasite Knight only has 1 less subscription, though, so I guess it’s a fair contender on subs.
3. What is your AO3 profile icon, and why did you choose it?
Same as my tumblr icon, it’s one of my OC’s, Morrigu Lovel. He is a little smartass and I love him.
4. Do you have any regular/favourite commenters?
Oh for sure, there’s a few lovely readers that come back every time and always have something to say. I love you guys :) And a few others that don’t comment on every chapter or every work, but the comments they leave are always phenomenal and make my day.
5. Is there a fanfic that you keep going back to read again and again?
Depends on my mood, and I don’t necessarily read the entire fic, just the paragraphs/scenes/chapters that really stick out to me. But yeah, I’ve got some favorites I return to a lot.
6. How many stories are you subscribed to? How many do you have bookmarked?
Oh geez. This one’s hard to say since I watch stuff on AO3 and FF.net. A lot? I think a lot of those fics are dead now though.
7. Which AU do you find yourself writing the most?
Mmmm I don’t really have a tendency to stick to any particular series or AU for very long? I guess in terms of general themes I’ve done zombie AU’s the most, between Age of Heroes for Young Justice and Road Trip to End Times for Voltron...something about zombie apocalypse scenarios just fascinates me, especially since it can be done so many different ways.
8. How many people are subscribed and bookmarked to you in total? (you can view this on the stats page)
252 user subs, 444 work subs, 2039 bookmarks. I didn’t even know that until now, huh
9. Is there something you’d like to write about but are afraid of people judging you for it? (Feeling brave? If so, share it!)
There’s some character interactions that are such hot-button topics in the VLD fandom I’m cautious about approaching them because I don’t want to deal with people complaining or begging for things to get escalated. Like, I love Keith and Lance’s interactions in canon, but don’t have much fic centered around them because ship lashback is real.
10. Is there anything you would like to be better at? Writing certain scenes or genres, replying to comments, updating better, etc.
Short fic. What is brevity even? I can’t do zines or commissions because I can’t figure out how to manage a damn word count.
11. Do you write rarepairs or popular ships more often?
Nope! I don’t write any ships at all. I just write platonic interaction. Though I guess I wouldn’t be adverse to a platonic ‘rarepair’ as long as I liked the characters’ interaction potential.
12. How many stories have you posted on AO3 to this day (finished and unfinished)?
So far, 25. 23 of those are Voltron, 1 is Young Justice, and 1 is Supernatural (experimenting with cross-posting on both of those last two, some fandoms are just hard to break into or not on certain sites).
13. How many stories do you have saved in/with your writing program?
Oh boy. In progress? I wanna say 3. Notes? A lot, lot more.
14. Do you write down story ideas, or just keep them in your head?
I jot down notes! Or email myself ideas if I’m at work/out and about. Or speak them into a little portable digital tape recorder I keep next to my bed, if it’s the middle of the night and I have an idea, but lack dexterity to type.
15. Have you ever co-authored a story?
Not in a long, looong time.
16. How did you discover AO3?
Through TVTropes. Every time I finished a new series I’d swing by to read tropes pages and see if there were any decent fic recs. At first they all went to Fanfiction.net or livejournal but, over time, this ‘Archive’ thing kept showing up. I made an account to lurk or subscribe to things but didn’t actually start posting to it until at least a year later.
17. Do you consider yourself to be a popular or famous author in your fandom(s) on AO3?
Moderately well known in the platonic corner of it probably assuming people know bosstoaster and I are not actually the same person lol but probably not well known outside of that. Once upon a time I was a Big Name in the One Piece fandom, but after the timeskip I fell out of the fandom and lost my pirate king throne. That’s okay, it was fun while it lasted.
18. Do you have a nickname or fandom name for your readers?
No but you all are too kind
19. Was there an author who inspired or encouraged you to write?
In terms of ‘official’ authors, Brandon Sanderson is everything I ever aspire to be as a writer, and I take a lot of inspiration from that. For fic? My buddy BlackFriar was super helpful during the Young Justice era. More recently in the VLD fandom, @maychorian was big for just...getting me to stay in the fandom at all? One of her fics got me hooked and I stuck around, and then felt compelled to write, instead of just drifting off to the next interesting thing. And the Think Tank ( @bosstoaster @butteredonions @ashinan @mumblefox ) have all been huge for getting me to keep writing, between writing sprints and interesting discussions and a lot of encouragement, so that’s been huge for me this past year.
20. What writing advice would you give to a beginning author?
At the risk of sounding like that one video...just do it. It’s scary to put yourself out there, but just do it. You learn by doing. You also learn by absorbing new things around you, so read a lot and try new stuff; you never know when something completely random or a personal experience might actually add a lot to your story. And finally, write for you, first. Write the stories you want to see. Writing for comments/bookmarks/reblogs only goes so far. It means your motivation is reliant solely on people liking your work, which means you start writing for other people and not for yourself...and if reception is lackluster, it can kill your ability to finish a project, which hurts your practice at follow-through. It’s a slippery slope and starts to make the whole thing a lot less fun and a lot more of a chore. Write things you want to read, and if you feel like sharing them after, other people might like them too, but it’s important that you like it, first.
21. Do you plot out your stories, or do you just figure it out as you go?
Has to be plotted completely. If I try to wing it I meander or get hung up on trying to keep track of details. Turns into total garbage.
22. Have you ever gotten a bad comment on a story? If so, what did you do?
A few times, sure. Happens to everyone. Most often, it’s people begging, demanding, or insinuating that my platonic fics should include a ship, especially if the fic focuses on the interactions of two specific characters. Those are very frustrating because I’m always upfront about the fic being friendship only, and there are usually a million other ship fics already out there. Leave my platonic fic alone! I usually ignore the comments, or just politely remind people it’s friendship only and will remain that way. In one bewildering instance in a different fandom I had somebody who had been thoroughly enjoying the fic up until the climactic battle, whereupon they were furious at how it was resolved, and took great pains to tell me just what they thought. That one stung. I had to sit on it for a few days before I worked up the nerve to respond, and chatted with a few friends over it too. In the end I realized that it was more comparable to a fan really enjoying a canon work but being mad about a sudden twist that just didn’t seem right to them. It happens. I thanked them for reading, explained that I disagreed with their comments but did hear them, and thanked them for their time. Best I could do.
23. Is there a certain type of scene that you have a hard time writing? (action, smut, etc..)
I am straight-up incapable of romance, period. Even so far as to slide into ‘fake’ romance (I once got prompted for fake marriage/dating and literally couldn’t envision how to do it? It’s just so foreign to me). Or flirting. I can’t even identify flirting IRL. Basically anything in that general area of writing is completely out of my league. I can write intense scenes that are intimate in non-romantic, non-sexual ways, but those are really difficult for me to do too and I’m constantly second-guessing myself in case it’s maybe too much.
24. What story(s) are you working on now?
If I told you I’d have to kill you. But no, srsly, I don’t like to share ideas in progress until it’s almost done, just in case. Sometimes I share and then immediately lose interest, but I’ve already raised peoples’ hopes, and that’s just a dick move.
25. Do you plan your next project(s) before you finish your current ongoing story(s)?
I’ll have outlines, or sometimes need to plan around prompts. I don’t usually do series, so I never really need to plan too far ahead though. Sometimes if I’m plotting a crossover/AU I’ll obtain the source material and read/watch/play it to start gathering notes for that fic while working on a different fic, so that by the time I’m done writing the current story, the AU’s skeleton is plotted out and I have a place to slot in all the characters.
26. Do you have a daily writing goal set for yourself?
No. I’ve gotten better habits since working with the Think Tank but I still tend to be more of a ‘burst’ writer (no activity for days or weeks, and then suddenly word vomiting 100K in a month).
27. Do you think you’ve improved as a writer since you first started?
By a HUGE margin
28. What is your favorite story that you’ve written?
Oooh, that’s a toss-up between Phantasmagoria and Prince of Memory. The former because I love writing horror and it’s an idea I’d wanted to tackle for a while. The latter because it was a personal writing challenge to myself that I honestly wasn’t sure was going to go over all that well, but the response was stunning, and I was quietly surprised.
29. What is your least favorite story that you’ve written?
Caged Bird, from a different fandom. I make it a personal rule to never delete stories that I’ve posted, but ooh man, I wanted to get rid of this one really bad. I was happy when LJ gutted it. I actually don’t have any real dislike for any of my Voltron stuff.
30. Where do you see yourself (as a writer) in 5 years?
Still writing because I’d die if I stopped. Like a shark. But with writing.
31. What is the easiest thing about writing?
That flash of inspiration, when you get an idea and suddenly it’s building itself almost too fast for you to keep up. Dialogue. Action sequences.
32. What is the hardest thing about writing?
Getting started. Titles. Editing. Research. Any particularly emotional moment.
33. Why do you write?
Because fandoms are fun but I have so many questions after. “What if X happened? What if Y was a factor? Why not Z?” I try to hunt down answers to these questions in fandoms and if the fic isn’t already written, I write it. Also to challenge myself to do things that haven’t been done in the fandom yet, or to tackle things I haven’t tried yet.
I think everyone’s been tagged already so...feel free to play if you want, I guess!

my flea dream lol
My weird dream
I had a “flea” dream last night lol. Once my sister had a dream that she was a flea and killed mufasa?? And woke up and was terrified but like the content of the dream was not scary. I had one last night which right now is a little scary. OMG so it wasn’t a nightmare because it was scary, but it was intense and my heart was beating fast when I woke up. So it started out really weird and the direct result of me watching too many episodes of breaking polygamy. I was on a date with an FLDS looking woman in a restaurant that looked gross and I would never go there in real life. What’s weird is that I’ve had dreams in this restaurant before? Anyway I was wearing an amazing cute outfit with a blazer at this date and my weird amish looking date looked…. Amish. And the waiter took her order and then looked to me and goes “are you a man or a boy?” And I was immediately offended hahaha I was just like “what??” And the waiter was like “suit jackets are for men.” I immediately left the restaurant and there was no other sight of my weird date. I got in my car (which was my old gold Honda RIP) and who is inside??? MY EX GIRLFRIEND. That’s when this turned into a nightmare tbh. My least favorite version of her was her when we were in the car and she was driving. In my dream though we were not dating we were just friends after dating. But she was acting weird and possessive and stuff like we were still together. She drove us around being literally the most annoying version of herself. She spilled coffee, got us lost, was extra Vegan, and just generally very annoying. She like had this “I know I’m right attitude” that I used to hate or more like “I don’t care if I’m wrong” attitude. Terrible. As we were driving to my dream house I just got more and more miserable.
THEN the number one reason we broke up, she invited herself to a family party that was being thrown at my house. (Also weird thing about my house in this dream is that it was in the field that used to be there before they built a Walmart on winterpok rd. Also all the women in my family were lined up with red Pizza Hut uniforms and name tags and everyone had a fluffy twist out like they had blowdried their hair??? (Probably another side effect of me watching too much breaking polygamy lmao because they all wear their hair the same on there. I remember members of my family there but also members from the country church we used to go to like 15 years ago. Honestly who even knows why they were also there. I was immediately excited to see all of them and forgot to be annoyed at S. I remember singing “10-20-40” to them as I walked by. Literally so weird.)
SO. As we were driving S had stopped at Pizza Hut which was on the corner in the dream and my dream solution was to run home before she could find me, and get into my weird house before she saw me so that one of my family members would intercept her. It semi worked? I snuck into the basement locker room of my house to (take a shower I guess) and I hear her coming in the alternate entrance. (Random memory about this dream, she was dressed like jojo siwa. Which is odd but its also totally how she would have dressed in like, high school. Literally why did I date this woman) And I see her legs under like a weird stall door that leads to the basement locker room and we start having a screaming match about her even being in my house which is when I woke up with my heart beating fast. I’m trying to even remember what I said but I remember a few parts?
S: “I can’t believe you didn’t wait for me!” (I guess to come into my house? What’s weird about this argument is that I felt the same guilty sense of dread that I used to feel when I didn’t feel like hanging out with her. Cool. Love that for me)
Me: “I had a very not good day, which I know isn’t an excuse.” So eloquent of me. Brilliant grammar. I was referring to being called a man on my weird date, for some reason in my dream this really distressed me.
S: “That’s not an excuse!” (She had cut me off as I was saying the last part)
Me: “I JUST said it’s not an excuse and I’m fucking trying to apologize and you won’t let me!”
And that’s when I woke up. I wish I had stayed asleep longer because I was about to yell at her for 1. We aren’t dating anymore and she was no longer entitled to my time and 2. That she was always inviting herself into places that she just didn’t belong or didn’t fit. This would have gotten ugly so you know it’s probably for the best but still. lol.
So what do I do? I get up and read her reddit posts to make sure she’s still completely unrelateable and surprise surprise she is. So I am making it a vow to stop doing that because all it really does is just make me even more flabbergasted about why I even dated her for so long or even dated her at all. I know deep down that my reasoning was “eh, why not? I need girlfriend experience.” Instead of “wow I am actually interested in this person.” So yep. Never doing that again. And I know it’s terrible but I really want to date someone in my race next time. It’s just easier.
Also I have been thinking about downloading a dating app but I only want friends. I don’t feel like dating anyone right now and also I feel like in order to have a good time in a relationship I need to lose like 150 pounds. Anyway I typed this on my work laptop and I hope if someone reads this later they get a big kick out of it. Hahahah
Also! I text MB all day every day because I think we are both lonely. Yesterday on FT she said “I wish you were a man then we could date.” This really freaked me out. At first (like months ago) my brain was like “oh shit are we about to get a crush” but thank GOD I only feel friendship feelings for her. She’s just really young and very white and sometimes those things are glaringly obvious. It just freaked me out because it made me think like “oh should we be dating???” but the ultimate answer is no. not to mention a week or so ago we had a discussion where she thought i was always mad at her for being racist. But i have to call her out sometimes on the ignorant shit she says. Like ordinarily i would just let people get away with it but if we are gonna be as close of friends as we already are then you gotta know when you mess up. Sorry. But you do.
I was able to get a nintendo switch!! I am having a great time. I just wish my sister was able to get one too. I feel like I can’t be properly excited because she’s really bummed about not being able to get one. I am checking the site over and over again to see if I can get one for her. Also she’s bummed about her job role transitioning for the lend position. I would also be very upset but at the same time she should be just a little grateful for still having a job at this point. I would never say that though. And also i’m not in her shoes so I can’t really judge. I would be PISSED if I climbed my way up the ladder just to be stuck doing what I view as “non-degree work.”
This is terrible but finally the tables have turned in my favor? Hear me out ok. For years I’ve struggled with my health and my job. I was diagnosed with diabetes and high BP when I was 19. I graduated without a job, and worked 5 shitty and semi-shitty jobs for the past 5 years. Finally I have a job that I love (hopefully that lasts) that pays me decently, and I can afford my meds on my new insurance, I stay hydrated which makes me feel better and I’ve gotten really used to listening to my body. I also have accepted my health problems and I am really good at keeping a level head about things. Now though, all of the stuff I already went through and I am dealing with accordingly are happening to my sister and she is miserable. She had a shitty job change (it’s only temporary, but she is WALLOWING in it.) and was diagnosed with asthma. The inhaler gives her heart palpitations and she completely freaks out over them. I’m really not trying to be rude but at least you know they are a side effect and her heart isn’t just going crazy for no reason. But she has been in a terrible mood for weeks and every time she takes her inhaler she has like, an episode. First of all, my mom would have never let me get away with this behavior for so long because I’ve always been kind of sullen and panicky. But also I think sometimes my sister just really needs to grow up. Shitty things happen to everyone and you kind of just have to keep going forward.
AND speaking of growing up, we are trying to look at apartments in the same complex because I feel like honestly she will forget about me if we don’t live within walking distance of each other. I don’t know how much she gets paid but it can’t be much more than me. She’s looking at places with one bedroom that are like $1,500 a month.... like that’s the base rent price. She’s not even counting the security deposit and utilities. I tried to explain it to her and she’s like “I’m pretty sure all apartments cost this much around here.” I’m so sorry but no. They don’t. I’m not paying almost 2 grand a month to live where we do. That’s crazy to me. I found a place I like but she doesn’t seem to like it. I may just have to move there and just be sad for a while when she forgets to hang out with me.
Last thing I guess (since I should be working) I want to write a lesbian romance novel! I am in a bit of a book slump so why not write one of my own. Wouldn’t that be amazing if it could be published??? I have no idea how to write a book so honestly it’s a pipe dream but I was really good at writing fanfiction! It’s gotta be similar right?
