okay so i watched it again because i have been unable to think about anything else for the last 24 hours!!

there were so many beautiful and incredible moments throughout but i am mostly here to talk about lister and rimmer (also i know this aired in 2020, im aware that most things will have been said/pointed out, i am just a girl who loves her space boyfriends hanging out with their cat and their mech) also spoilers below in case you haven’t seen it either

firstly; the fact that rimmer has moved out of their room?! i have always (ever since i was a kid) been obsessed with the fact that lister and rimmer still share a room despite having the whole ship to themselves. they still bunk together bc they can and no one bats an eyelid. but obvs dave’s hoarding has become so much of an issue that not only has rimmer moved out, but can’t even step foot in there. lister, tidy that space up and get your husband back in there.

such a small moment but lister coming round the console to make sure he can catch rimmers light bee? stunning.

and then also to be the one to pick him up after his light bee crashes out? girl, you are so obvious.

when the boys are separated and rimmer is trying to catch up, he only says “lister where are you?” again this could mean nothing but i am reading into everything. particularly as we’ve seen in the past that rimmer goes with or to kryten with things.

another iconic moment was when rimmer went to offer to criticise lister, the SMIRK that is on craig charles’ face, you cannot tell me that wasn’t him trying not to laugh!!

i cried so much when i watched this the other day, watching the scene where rimmer powers down to low battery mode and the cat points out how weird it is. seeing rimmer come to the realisation that he isn’t deemed worthy or essential to the mission. to hear him be deemed less important than the heated seats or air con was awful and chris barrie played it so brilliantly, his minute expressions were everything. i loved lister defending rimmer and telling the cat to leave him alone, he could already tell this was going to send rimmer into a spiral. their relationship has developed so much over the series and it is wonderful to see. particularly when you think back to series 5 when they all pretended to love rimmer so they could escape his terror formed world.

right i could talk for the days about the moonlight scene and the set up scene. again i was already emotional from the above scene and i could not stop crying during this. rimmer basically insinuates he should k*ll himself to help the crew by removing his charge. important thing to note is that rimmer NEVER would have done that previously; he has always said he needs to be kept on, always disagreeing when they said to turn him off or reduce his power. he was always fearful they would never reboot him and yet in this episode, he was willing to shut down and help preserve the power to save the other 3!!!! lister looking horrified that he would even consider it?! lister telling him that people liked him and even ensuring that kryten said it. i cant man.

i think what i liked most about the moonlight scene is that lister is trying his upmost hardest to ensure that rimmer knows how important he is to the crew, to him. he knows he could say all the things that rimmer wants to hear but in this moment, it has to come from the heart. it has to mean something otherwise rimmer will die and that will be that. so he tells him. he tells him that he is important, that he exists without needing a reason too but also deep down, that lister needs him (also lister actually telling him that he needs him? someone sedate me)

okay lastly because this post has gotten away from me but when they are back on red dwarf, and kryten has powered down and rimmer is on his last bit of charge? THIS SCENE. when kryten has already gone and rimmer makes a comment, lister is the one to point out that rimmer doesn’t have long left. lister is the one to say, hold the hell on, we need to get you back too. and then, and then

“there’s a moon over here that could do with a little sunlight”

arnold j rimmer and david lister, you two have ruined me. that might possibly be one of the most romantic things i have ever heard. rimmer is the moon and lister is the sun?! god damn. and listers little smile when rimmer becomes diamond light again? my GOD. he was so cute and smiley and proud and him watching rimmer go and dispose of the bomb? i know the focus of this scene was the cats reaction to rimmers ‘death’ but lister looked like he had accepted this was the way it had to be and he would have to continue on. craig charles is just so good, like all of them tbf, with his subtle expressions.

so yeah, it’s safe to say this is one of my favourite episodes. i hope red dwarf does come back because i am not ready to say goodbye to these guys yet but if it doesn’t, then at least i have this episode to watch again and again.

papa nanami and how he can't decide which fleece jacket he should buy for his little girl—

they’re tiny, the length of the fabric spanning his two palms and a half. he’s thinking hard on this one—tan or pink? tan or pink… tan or pink.

the store is closing soon; the only free time he had was after work, now, half an hour before dinner. he should hurry so he can go home already—to his little girl and you.

he sighs, holding the jackets up again. tan or pink...

hm.

he makes his choice.

when he arrives home, crouching low as his little girl comes crashing into him—the shopping bag falls to his side, hands holding her close. you peek from the kitchen, smile warm and in love.

kento always makes it in time for dinner, no matter what.

after tickles and giggles and a big munching on her cheek, your little girl pulls her papa by his pinky, dragging him over to you.

you always give him a kiss on the cheek.

“welcome home, my love.” you whisper by his ear, setting the last bowl of food down on the dining table.

you spot the shopping bag by the foyer, sneaking him a look, “did some early gift shopping?”

he follows your eyes, picking up your little girl as he sets her down on her seat.

“bought some fleece jackets for her, before it gets too cold.”

your lips curl up, knowing you chose the right man; his foresight, the way he looks after you both—it makes your heart swell as you walk to pick up the shopping bag.

when you pry it open, you’re met with fuzzy bundles of tan and pink. you snort, “couldn’t pick?”

he flushes, cheeks turning the same shade as the fabric in front of you—he points to his suit, “she said she wanted to match with me.”

your mouth forms an ‘ah’, still smiling, “and the pink?”

“i thought it’d look cute on her.”

he turns to your little girl, grip tight on her silicon utensils as she stabs around her food. she’s almost on her way to full sentences now and it shouldn’t make him this sentimental, but it does.

he wants her to stay this tiny forever.

his little girl.

“what do you think, baby?” you hold up the pink jacket beside you, speaking to your daughter.

she giggles, silicon fork in hand as her bib bounces; her eyes, the same brown as her papa’s but shaped like yours, sparkles, “pwitty! pwitty on!”

“papa always has good taste doesn’t he?” you look at your husband fondly.

your little girl babbles, giggling.

and nanami doesn’t know what he did to deserve this—your little family, but if he has to buy every fleece jacket in the world to keep you both warm and toasty, he will.

he’ll even make you all matchy.

pushing daisies au where shinichi has been able to revive dead animals, plants, even people since he was a child.

kudou "i can literally talk to the dead" shinichi

shinichi's parents didn’t exactly encouraged him to use this power. especially not in public. they’ve seen him revive and re-kill dead plants and animals in the same breath, it doesn’t take a detective to figure out what could happen near a human corpse.

but a young shinichi is curious, a young shinichi admired his father, and a young shinichi wanted to prove himself a detective. but most of all, a young shinichi wanted to help.

so when he saw his father struggle in solving a particular case, a young shinichi figured that maybe asking straight from the source would help give them a hint.

the complete horror in yusaku's eyes shinichi saw that day made him promise himself to never do it again.

shinichi realizes later on that reviving someone just for a clue on the whos, hows, and whys of their death only to touch them again, to basically kill them again, is sick and twisted and the realization leaves him feeling raw and dirty.

he then decides that if he’s gonna find out the truth, if he’s gonna bring justice, it’s not by making the victims suffer a second death. he will unravel the mystery not by magic but by logic.

the curious case of kuroba kaito

hakuba immediately contacts shinichi.

“he was...a friend. if i have to gather all the best detectives to catch his murderer then so be it.”

hakuba goes on to explain.

it was a kid heist. shots were fired. snipers. kaitou kid was caught on camera falling, as if he’d been shot, but he appears a minute later flying away on his glider with not a speck of blood on his suit. all should be well however, a few buildings away in an alleyway, the body of kuroba kaito is found dead. gunshots through the heart and chest.

a simple explanation would’ve been that the glider was a fake activated by kid’s assistant as a last ditch effort to save his legacy and this kuroba kaito was kaitou kid himself. he would’ve said it out loud but by the look on hakuba’s face, he can tell that he already connected those dots long before shinichi even stepped foot in the morgue. that wasn’t what hakuba called him for.

“can i...take a look at the body alone?”

hakuba raises an eye at him but moves to leave without questioning. "alright then. i have to check on another friend anyway. she's been...distraught ever since she heard the news and..." hakuba's words trail away as his eyes unconsciously drifted towards kuroba kaito's covered body. shinichi patiently waits through the quiet pain that he sees on hakuba. the pinch in his brows, the tenseness of his body. he must've been a really good friend.

hakuba shakes his head and turns his attention back to shinichi. "sorry, i...its been a long day. i'll leave you here then. call me if you find anything."

left alone, shinichi carefully zips open the body bag covering kaitou kid's upper body. he looked eerily similar to himself and imagining his own body cold and dead in the morgue sent a shiver down his spine. shaking his head, he pulls a chair close and reads through the file hakuba brought him.

"no witnesses. no camera. not a trace nor lead to anything. just some reports on mysterious gunshots in previous heists that lead to nowhere." they were professionals, whoever did this, shinichi thought. it was not going to be an easy case.

he takes another peek at the body. so this was kaitou kid, huh. too young to be the same as the one before his hiatus. perhaps a successor? motive could be related to his predecessor. his mother hasn't said anything of interest. does she really not know or is she protecting him? he runs his hand through his hair. there's too little information to go on...unless...

temptation rears its head. the source of information is right there in front of him. one touch and it could open up new leads to the case. an immediate disgust twists deep into his gut. he promised himself to never use it on people. to never kill. his father's haunted eyes embedded in his mind. he shouldn't. he really shouldn't. but he remembers the anguished look on hakuba's face. if he was going to do it, this might be the only good time. any longer and his touch would not revive kid. and gone along with him would be vital information to catch his murderer.

shinichi heaves a deep sigh. he has never used his abilities on dead people since that one incident as a child but he couldn't shake off the look on hakuba's face. it was now or never. shinichi reaches for kid's hand.
