hi! first of all, i'm so sorry you're feeling the way that you are. you've helped open my eyes to things i admittedly didn't know (dan's comment at wad, for example) or didn't notice. i'm glad you're receiving at least some support from other phans! i don't know if this helps at all (and it's not me trying to excuse dan), but i wanted to add some context to his "third-world country" reference. as an american, i can tell you that we grew up learning "this"third world" as the proper term. most of my colleagues, friends, family members, etc. STILL use it casually to refer to developing nations/the global south - we were literally taught to use it in school. of course it has since become obsolete, as the wording is incredibly offensive. i know about this because of my time in academia, but this awareness hasn't at all spread to the general population (especially in dan's/my generation of millennials and older). as smart as i do think dan is, i wonder if that's also the case in england. he has the responsibility to educate and inform himself and he needs to acknowledge that he's hurt and alienated a large proportion of his fanbase, so i still hope he'll do that soon.
as for the tour, one of my my best friends is mexican (and lives in mexico) and she was really disappointed during ii when they had to cancel the announced mexico dates. they had assumed the dates would work out, but - if i remember correctly - were presented with a lot of visa/permissions issues. they tried to make it work but it didn't, and they waited much too long to tell anyone. my guess is that they wanted to avoid a similar disappointment this time and not give anyone false hope, nor accidentally say anything negative about those countries as they explain their reasoning (which, of course, just comes off worse - ignoring is never the issue).
other artists have had similar issues with asian and middle eastern countries as well, as there is increased censorship and visa requirements. i've spent four years of my life in asian countries (and a few months in south america) and know that there are phans there who'd love to see them, but it might not be feasible.
ultimately, however, dan and phil owe everyone transparency and need to acknowledge if they're having difficulties with bookings in other countries and why. they usually go back and add dates later, so fingers crossed that they're trying to work out some dates in latam and may yet still add them.
It’s the lack of transparency that is the issue here. How am I supposed to trust them when they won’t tell me anything in the first place? And if they expect me to assume for the best, I don’t think I can do that. Not with all the time they tried to bury their mistakes when people have been hurt as if it’s nothing. I’m sorry but if they’re choosing to look good in the public eye before choosing us, then I don’t think I can trust them anymore. And it’s not that they’ll look bad when they’re talking about this stuff, but the fact they have never once talked about it ever really makes it feel like they want to keep this shut. And that hurts a lot.
Thank you for your perspective tho. I think it helps seeing where they can possibly come from.

#14: the ship that always makes you smile
Hmm. I wonder. Yknow.. I can't seem to recall any that would.
Alright, seriously, there has not been another ship like rinharu. Honestly, I struggle to put it into words since it's mostly feelings.
This pairing altered my brain chemistry and rewired me. Literally defined my taste when it comes to ship. If it reminds me of rinharu, there is a high chance i'll ship it. It's a ship that's got it all. Just the dynamic is so addicting and fun and thrilling. There is not one moment when they're together that is not overloaded with feeling. They play off of each other so well. They're both opposites, but also more similar than they realize. They have fantastic chemistry, and they are both so passionate, but they can also be pretty soft with each other too. Their moments make the show. I mean, they are the "core-axis" of free! After all.
From the very beginning of their story together, it's always been so entertaining. I loved seeing how their relationship started, grew, and evolved. It was love at first sight (or I guess you could say it was actually love at first swim). Rin's determination was unwavering, and he kept trying until he finally smashed his way through Haru's walls and eventually won him over with his charm, all while being absolutely enamored by Haru himself. And he truly did shake up Haru's entire world. Haru was so sure the only thing he needed was to feel the water. Then, in comes this smiley and annoyingly persistent kid and shows him a sight he's never seen before, and makes him feel so many funny feelings.
They're both so taken with one another, even if they don't want to admit it. I love how Rin gushes about Haru at any chance he gets, and how Haru is constantly thinking about Rin whenever they're apart. And i mean, gosh he quit swimming because he thought he hurt Rin. He had that much of an impact on Haru. They both drive each other forward, improve one another, and becomes their best selves together. Their relationship certainly wasn't without its bumps along the way, but i think that just makes it more interesting.
Seriously, when it comes to these two, they could be doing anything, and they would still have me smiling. I will treasure them forever.
#16: a tiny detail in canon that you want more people to appreciate
Not sure if some of these really count as "tiny", but:
● I just genuinely love that whenever Haru has flashbacks of his childhood moments with Rin, the first thing he remembers/thinks about is his smile, and the scene is always tinted pink with cherry blossoms.
● Rin's friendship with Nagisa. He pretends to be aggravated by him, but he's got quite the soft spot for him too.
● How perceptive Nagisa truly is. He notices the small things about his friends and their behaviors. It's so sweet
● Haru's love for weird looking creatures, like northern stoplight loose-jaw kun. He would have loved sacabambaspis.
● Haru's hobby of wood carving. I would love one of his handcrafted iwatobi chan charms.
● Also one I learned about recently: Haru actually has double-jointed knees!
#25: a piece of advice for taking care of yourself in fandom spaces
Fandom, as fun as it is, unfortunately has its rotten side. You'll inevitably come across pointless discourse of any kind during your time in it. The best thing you can do is honestly just avoid engaging with it. Don't ruin your own happiness by starting arguments with people who simply won't listen. If they're constantly popping up on your feed, simply block them and keep enjoying your side of the fandom. Constantly being met with people being destructively negative about the things you enjoy will do nothing except bring you down. It is so much nicer to just be able to enjoy things. You don't have anything to prove to anyone, and you don't need to justify yourself for liking a certain character or a ship. Just post what you want in your own circle. Be free!
(That being said, there are actually interesting discussions one can have with people who are actually willing to listen and debate properly, and those can be good experiences too. I'm just talking about discourse like ship wars or arguments like: Rin Matsuoka is a toxic character, and you're problematic if you like him!!1!!11! and such)

ren has had a number of partners in the past, and so has had multiple experiences with valentines day, ranging from "that was... fine...!" to "DISASTER" :'( he tried to make up for a socially isolated childhood by finding Someone. Anyone. to be in a relationship with, and he'd often flip from completely overdoing things to trying to play it too casual. his partners would inevitably leave feeling some level of disappointed... so the day's somewhat tainted by bad memories. that plus his general negative feelings towards holidays (family shit yippee) makes valentines supremely stressful for him, even though the /CONCEPT/ of the day seems nice! it takes someone with similar social expectations and views of most holidays (hieeeeee. smile.) to finally find a good middle ground approach to the day that works for both of us!.... it still stresses him out though. poor thing. 😫
Chocolate Cosmos: If your f/o was talking about you to someone like a close friend, how exactly would they talk about you? How would they describe you? Characterize you? And how often do they talk about you to other people?
before dating, doc! and v!ren spend a lot of time trying to avoid the fact that he likes me (doesn't want a repeat of past bad relationships, doesn't want to ruin something good, etc), so i feel like he's the "oh they're such a fun FRIEND, i love being their FRIEND, my FRIEND ro showed me this thing--" type, like he's trying to convince himself that that's how he sees me. most others see right through him though KJASNDKJN. r!ren doesn't have as many hangups about his relationships so he's more straightforward. if he was talking to his coworkers, he'd keep things to a Normal level. he'd mention me if he needed to refer to me for something ("oh, ro said that movie was good, do you recommend it too?" "ro and i went to a botanical garden this weekend, how about you?"), though if he was watching me stream art during a lunch break and someone asked about it, he'd fawn over me ("YEAH it's cool right? that's my FRIEND ro, they drew all of these things, look look look you can see them drawing now, they're--") kJNASDKJN. around his sister, though? no holds barred. she's the one who puts it in his head that he's ALLOWED to try romance again, and that i seem sensible and that we'd be fairly attuned to each other, so ofc she's the one he always goes to if he needs to gush. i think he'd focus on my perseverance and passion, but also my art skills, the efforts i've made to improve myself, the "gap moe" between my resting blank face vs my care for others + excitement over my interests, and uhhhhh how cute he thinks i am KJNSKJN. and i think he'd want to stress how much calmer he feels in our relationship. his past relationships all ended up being pretty shallow and unhealthy because he wasn't in the right mindset for it. now that he has a relationship that, even on days when we don't agree w each other, is infinitely healthier and easier... he wants anyone listening to know that i'm irreplaceable to him.

his are quality time + physical touch, mine is acts of service. i feel like we've worked things out pretty well, actually! when he's done with work, we'll spend the evening just sitting together, snuggling and enjoying each others' company and catching up on each others' days. i like to cook nice meals for him when i can; no matter which ren it is, he could use a little extra nutrition sjkdfn. if i'm in his place, i also like to tidy up while he's out, and with my health situation, i deeply appreciate when he goes out of his way to bring things to me or help clean things around my place when i can't get up ;;; 😭 and we'll sometimes do things that combine all of our languages together!! once in a while, we'll take a night to shower together, one of us sitting in a shower chair while the other thoroughly washes their hair and body, massaging their scalp and helping them relax, and then we switch places. then we get into soft pjs, dry each others' hair, maybe continue with some skincare... yknow. just. spending time really focusing on each other, connecting physically in a non-sexual way, and doing something kind to help let out tension. 🥺💕

SOME SYMBIOTE POPTROPICA AU LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOO
Headcanons under the cut.
Credits to @thehyperrequiem for making me lose my shit for this concept.
The symbiotes were on the ship that became known as Atlantis
All of the villains met there symbiotes fairly young, that's why Zeus had to be so careful with extracting them
Mordreds symbiote, Error, loved their new host almost immediately, and Mordred was never one to shy away from a new experience, making them an instant duo
Error would tell baby Mordred about all the things they've seen, including technology
Mordred was already a bright young lad, and with the stories from Error, he was inspired to build things to make his and his towns life better. Think Varian from Rapunzel the series
As far as anyone in the kingdom knew, Mordred was always a strange child (they didn't know what autism was) but then one day he became a good deal stranger
When the crash happened, Error tried their best to keep Mordred alive, and when the aliens came to investigate the sudden crash on the moon Error lashed out and attacked them
Since Bard doesn't have a lot of his old body back, Error tends to hang out on their head instead
Captain Crawfish and his symbiote Kraken have a mutual respect and trust for each other every step of the way
When Kraken first bonded with Crawfish, they hated each other but knew that they could die without being bonded
Eventually those negative feelings went away
When Crawfish lost his leg, instead of having a peg-leg Kraken would form a leg to make up for it
Crawfish can't really control the leg and has to hope Kraken isn't going to make them trip in front of everyone
When in fights Kraken watches Crawfishes back
After getting separated from Kraken Crawfish had to get used to a peg-leg
Black Widow and her symbiote Invidia had a pretty healthy relationship
At first Invidia was planning to manipulate Widow, but they slowly found themselves caring for her
While they were at art school Invidia would try their best to get Widow to sleep, even if it means knocking her out
Invidia would sometimes pick pockets (learned it from Widow) when money was short during those times too
Invidia hated it when the other young artists where mean to Widow and offered to kill them more than once
Sometimes they grab a hot chocolate after casing a joint
Dr Hare's symbiote, Savagery, found themself in a problem
He's one of the only people on 24 Carrot who wouldn't die within a month but he also has a hard time taking care of himself
Savagery had a hard time making sure Harvey wouldn't get himself too hurt, or that he ate anything other than some popcorn, stuff like that
Savagery got really scared when the mutation happened, they didn't know what would happen to either of them or really even what was going on
Dr Hare has improved senses, but that also means he gets overwhelmed easily, so Savagery tends to block out things that are too loud or too bright
Dr Hare was the only one out of the group who realized that the symbiotes needed the happy chemical (0 clue what it's called I'm not a science major) Crawfish thinks that the symbiotes just eat brains, Bard and Error have a good relationship, and Widow lets the symbiote have chocolate when they need it
They all panicked when they first woke up without their respective symbiotes, learning that they were shortly in the posssesion of an angry god and then dumped into they ocean didn't help
The fight between the hero and Zeus looks a little different, instead of breaking the totems they had to use loud bells to get the symbiotes off of him
None of them had ever met someone else who had a symbiote like the four, and swapped stories and tricks they had learned
Dr Hare and Binary Bard are closer because both had met the others symbiote
They've asked Gretchen Grimlock for help, she's a cryptzoologist and a millionaire who has eyes everywhere
Meanwhile the symbiotes are hopping from person to person, sometimes having to share the same body
Overall everyone wants things to go back to normal again

How to Kick Depression in the Face Gracefully.

Here are some ways that helped me overcome my depression. Also, if you have any steps to help others in our depression community, please share on your own personal platform. You never know who might have needed your advice.
1. Only You Truly Understand Who You Truly Are as a Person.
Those of us who have been through the dark path of depression know how challenging it can be to combat negative energies. This is because our minds are constantly thinking of negative things that have happened in our lives in the past or currently happening in the present. Now trust me when I say I know it's hard to just let go and be positive about certain situations. But, if you want to improve mentally, you can't ignore it. This was literally the first step I had to take to start the process of getting back to the person I had lost due to the worries and fears I had created within my head. When it comes to battling these negative energies, you must tell those negative thoughts, “You do not belong to me or with me, and I know who I truly am”. Do not let negative energies overwhelm you, and remember, no one can judge you more harshly than you can judge yourself.
2. Be Positive and Express Positivity.
(Speak Affirmations Daily)
Speaking positively about yourself and your life can boost your motivation for every day. When I wake up in the morning, I thank God for another day, smile at myself in the mirror, and I tell myself I AM beautiful and that I AM going to have a wonderful day. As long as you know and believe you are in control of your happiness, nothing or no one can steal it from you.
3. Sweat It Out in a Healthy Way.
For some reason, when I sweat, I feel so good afterwards. Many times, I don't just go to the gym. I actually go outside into nature and enjoy the beautiful world God has created for us. I break a sweat by riding my longboard, roller skating, or just going for a stroll along a nature trail. I don't know what it is, but something about the blue sky, fresh air, and green trees can really put your mind at ease. Well, at least for me, it does. But whatever works best for you in a healthy way, go for it.
4. Take Up a Hobby You Love or Explore a Hobby You Have Always Been Curious About.
Every person usually has at least one hobby they enjoy immensely, and if you don't, I believe it's time you found your passion. Having a hobby during such a tough time is a great way to get your mind off of things, and it's a great way to bring some type of joy into your life. I know when I went through depression, I couldn't find joy in anything, but after I cleared my mind of those negative energies, I began to go out more again and found a piece of joy in the process. In my case, it was longboarding, and I have been addicted ever since. It allows me to feel free, like a bird with no wings, and yes, I realize that sounds strange, but for me, that's the way it feels.
5. Cut Out Negative People.
Hold on. Let me grab those scissors for you, because it's time to cut out those negative people in your circle. If anyone in your life treats you disrespectfully, drains your energy, uses you for their personal gain, or abuses you in any way, IT IS TIME to cut them completely off. They are only holding you back from your true potential. So, save your time and energy by moving on to people who are better vibrational matches. There are people who want to see you succeed; there are people who care about your well-being; and there are people who will be there to uplift you and not judge you. After you cut off all that excess weight from your life, you will feel so much lighter. When I looked back at my journey, I realized how much I had allowed people to use me for their own personal advantage. Please remember to listen to your intuition because disregarding it will only hurt you.
6. Pamper Yourself.
Do something kind for yourself from time to time. There is nothing wrong with taking some time out of your busy schedule to pamper yourself. I understand how life can be busy and hectic sometimes, but there always has to be a bit of time in your schedule JUST FOR YOU. My own work schedule is crazy. However, I always find at least an hour to start a new TV series, do a facial mask, listen to my favorite music, dance, and any other thing that makes me feel good.
7. Food Choices Make a Big Difference.
Consume greens, fruits, fibers, and proteins to boost your energy. At one point in time, I ate burgers and fries faithfully, and yes, they were delicious, but I realized the effect it had on me. As a result, I lost a lot of my free time to sleeping, feeling sluggish, and unmotivated. Make sure you stay as healthy as possible. Occasionally having your favorite cheat meal is fine but not every day to help your body and mind out.
8. Pray Often.
While I was experiencing depression, I didn't pray as much as I should have. In the beginning, I was ashamed of who I was, and I didn't know if God would forgive me for all the sins I had committed over time. But as time passed, I realized this is exactly what the enemy wanted me to believe. If you do not already know it, the enemy loves misery, and you can either stay in that misery, or YOU CAN move forward into your greatness. People were not created to be perfect, and God knows that. Always remember, God will forgive your sins, but that does not mean you should continue down the same path. It means you should try to be a better person by exchanging your bad habits for positive ones. Also, remember to meet God halfway because God can only do so much behind the scenes. Therefore, it is crucial that you continue to take the steps needed to help yourself, and don't forget to call upon your guardian angels. They are always surrounding you, ready to help you whenever you are ready to allow them into your life so that you can reach your fullest potential.

Ugh. I give up on not smoking.
Someone asked me about it AGAIN. Another person that I had told multiple times not to ask me about it because it just made me want to smoke!!! I truly do not understand why literally no one could respect that.
And I’m just… sad and depressed and tired and done and I give up. I went out and bought a carton. Not a single pack, a carton. I’m hoping that at least this time maybe I will smoke a little less. I’m going to aim for every two hours or so. Not every hour like I was before. I would really like to smoke a half pack a day. That would be a massive improvement from where I was at before.
I am so mad though. I want to lay down and cry. I had been doing so well, and I was nearly ready to go from step one patches to step two, but then my mom kept asking about it and I lost my shit and smoked on and off for three weeks. I finally decided to stop a few days ago (four or five) and was hanging in there, and then someone asked about it again. I just can’t anymore. I’m done. I give up.
I feel like I’ll be trapped smoking for the rest of my life and doomed to get cancer or something like that now. Because apparently everyone supports the idea of me not smoking but no one actually supports what I need to be successful. Which does not feel great to know.
I guess maybe I’ll try again over winter break when jt is cold and bad and I don’t want to go outside. I still have five weeks of step one patches left and all of step two and three, so I’ll just hold on to those until I feel ready to try again.
And next time? I’m not telling anyone at all. Literally no one will know. I might write about it here in my diary entries, but that will be the extent of my sharing about it.
My long term goal is to be quit by the time I do my study abroad in 2026, so I’ve got time. I did really good until everyone ignored what I wanted and needed, and I know I can do good again.
But for now… I am tired of being triggered and I give up.
Idk. I just can’t understand it. It’s like if people knew I was hurting myself and was trying not to, and every day someone new asked me how it was going not cutting myself. Like can you imagine how much of a trigger that would be? It would be awful. Everyone would judge you for asking. But for some reason it’s okay when it comes to quitting smoking? I don’t get it.
Anyway. I just stopped my days since timer. Longest streak is 28 days. I’ll go longer next time. It had been five days, one hour, and twenty eight minutes since I last smoked. What a massive disappointment this has turned out to be. I started out so hopeful and now I just feel disappointed in people for not respecting me enough to not ask like I asked them to.
I would really like to take a moment to point out that I have no negative feelings or emotions towards myself about this. It is an addiction, and that is okay. It’s just like when I quit self harm. It took many years and many attempts, and I am sure this will too.

Well. That got me to stop crying really quickly. I guess the fear shocked the despair right out of me.
I have things to do today but honestly I feel so form in that I’m probably going to push it all off until tomorrow and focus on feeling better and doing feel good things. Thinking I’m going to watch all of the marvel movies and shows in order because I did that prior to the first show coming out and it was really fun. And it took like three weeks and kept me very busy and distracted. I was also depressed during that period and I recall it being a good distraction so that I didn’t hurt myself like I wanted.
I guess I’ll give an update on that front. It’s been like a week or maybe more since I last hurt myself? I don’t know. I’m not really keeping track tbh. I don’t care that much. This feels like a serious relapse when it comes to my mind set, but not so serious in actual harm done. I guess I’ve had to the urge to hurt myself a bunch but mostly I’ve been ignoring it. And I was focused on quitting smoking and all that bullshit. I guess I’m hoping that now that I’m smoking again I can use that as my pseudo self harm and not hurt myself anymore? I don’t know. Something like that. I’ll try it out and see how it goes.
In all honesty, I don’t care that much. Right now I care about making it to class and getting good grades. I’ve missed one day of class each week since the semester started and that is… not good. The first time I had a migraine, and then I was sick, and then I was so depressed I couldn’t get out of bed and the syllabus says don’t come to zoom class from bed. So.
I guess maybe I��ll adapt what I did like a decade ago when I stopped hurting myself and get myself a little treat for each week I make it to all my classes. I only have three meeting times a week, so that doesn’t feel too hard. I mean, it is right now, but it won’t be forever. So I’ll find some little treat to get for going to class. Maybe bubble tea? That is kind of pricey since I have to get it delivered. Maybe a new mini? Those are pretty inexpensive, although I don’t have a place to display my minis yet and they are all in storage, and also all my painting stuff is still at mom’s. I don’t know. I’ll think of something.
In other news I broke up with Jim, my therapist. He didn’t do DBT and did CBT and it was okay but not for me. He was also ADAMANT that I needed to go out and socialize more, yet never asked me if I had that week??? So it was this constant pressure to do more be more be less me that built up and got really uncomfortable. Also I don’t think he ever really… comprehended that I am aroace and have no romantic or sexual desires. That came up a bunch the first like six months that I saw him. So, I finally decided I had had enough after he once again said that I needed to rejoin society (his actual words) when I HAD gone out and been social (hello!!! Ren faire for 8 hours plus two hours talking in the car???) and yet never asked me if I had done anything. And I guess I just got really sick of it. So yeah. No more Jim.
I do want to go to therapy again but I think I’m going to really take my time and look for a dbt certified therapist this time. Last time Jim was what I could afford, and he accepted my shitty insurance which was the main reason I saw him for so long. But I think I want to be back in DBT centered individual and group therapy. That is what has worked the best for me and led to long term stability and results. So I will do my research and take my time and find the perfect fit. Even though it might be really difficult in the mean time without therapy, I think it will be worth it. Also, I DO own the DBT skills manual, so I can always make copies of worksheets if things get really dicey.
So yeah. Those are the updates. Mostly depressing things I guess? I don’t know. Honestly I’m not too broken up about going back to smoking. I’m at peace with it. I kind of saw it coming. So I’m not mad at myself or beating myself up about it. Same with the occasional bout of self harm. I’m at peace with it. I’ll address these things when I get therapy. Maybe. Once I learn to trust my new therapist.
That’s my other problem with Jim. I never got able to trust him so I never really talked about anything that was going on? Mostly because ive had a string of really bad therapists for a few years now. Actually, I’m not done with the post. I want to vent about that.
Okay. First, there was Brenda. Brenda was great and helpful and helped me gain the skills to stop hurting myself and I saw her over for a decade weekly. I adored and trusted Brenda. And then, Brenda got a puppy. This was June 2020. Brenda texted me that she needed to reschedule our session bc she forgot how much work puppies are. I was in a good spot and I foolishly trusted Brenda so I was like yeah!!! whatever you need!!! And I never heard from Brenda again. Literally nothing. I texted her a few times trying to reschedule but she totally ghosted me. It was heartbreaking. This was the beginning of my trust issues with therapists.
Then I scrambled to find a new therapist because it was Covid and I wasn’t doing too great. And I saw Lauren for a while, but my eating disorder came back and Lauren didn’t do ED treatment. I never fully trusted Lauren but I still kind of opened up to her about my psychosis as it was happening to me. So Lauren was okay, but she also mostly did CBT? And that doesn’t work for me. She didn’t do a lot of DBT with me and tried to push CBT techniques, so I would have stopped seeing her anyway.
Then I saw Dr. Brianne, who cost a fuck ton because she is a psychologist, and she was pushy and awful. I hated going to therapy with her. Her office was also awful about billing which gave me a lot of financial issues. Which stressed me out and made my ED worse. Dr. Brianne also claimed to DBT, but never used it in my sessions with her. I finally gave up on her after she made me breakdown because she kept being pushy and I was clearly upset but she didn’t stop. This solidified my trust issues, I think.
Out of spite, I recovered from my ED on my own without any of her help and using what I remembered of DBT skills.
Then I saw Jim, and that lasted for a year. And he was okay. He accepted my insurance. He pressured me a lot about going out and making more friends and just ignored that I don’t want that kind of life and that I am content with the life I have right now. I couldn’t open up to him because of all my trust issues and basically wasted money talking about bullshit every two weeks and dealt with my problems on my own.
And now I don’t have a therapist (which tbh is effectively the same as seeing Jim) and I’m going to look for one but I’m going to be very picky this time because I want someone good and not someone bad or mediocre. I want a good fit, I want DBT, and I want someone that won’t be all pushy or pressure-y. I’ll just cope in the meantime.
Okay. I’m done writing now. I mean, I have more to say, but I have to charge my phone since it is dying.
Maybe more later? Idk. For now I will focus on doing the feel better things and deal with studying and everything later.

Eagle has landed!
Sua-sdei (hello)! Traveling to Cambodia, or Kampuchea, as Khmer people call it, has been a wild ride- and not just because of the terrifying lack of regard for stop signs in Phnom Penh. Neither has it been due to the street food, buzzing mosquitoes, or even the raging thunderstorms that faithfully show up every day around 5 pm (The words "Is that hail?" excitedly left the mouth of my fellow intern Brendan as we heard our first rain. Nah Brendan, it's just rain).

The flight from LAX to Incheon to Phnom Penh airport, while smooth, left Brendan and I rather tired, but life was not done with us yet. Upon being picked up from the airport by our EMI contact, Josiah, our car ran out of gas at a red stoplight (the one time anyone in a vehicle followed the rules that night), so Josiah and I walked several kilometers to fill plastic bottles with red gasoline, also riding a tuk-tuk somewhere during the journey. After two trips to the gas station, the car started up, and we headed off to our home in the Sensok district.
Orientation lasted from June 21 to last Monday, and while a whirlwind, I learned many great things about EMI and Cambodia. Aside from great topics like good missions practices, Khmer culture, and EMI project cycle, we learned about why EMI exists, how it has improved, and what our goals are. The office is already beginning to feel like a family, since we do devotions every morning, eat lunch, and do some late afternoon activities together.
I've also reached greeting-level of proficiency in Khmer (pronounced kmai), which I would consider level negative one. English letters don't quite do the Khmer consonants and vowels correctly, and I've found I don't need to tell many jokes here, because if I want to be funny, I just start speaking Khmer. That said, I'm getting plenty of encouragement to continue my studies and may even be conversation-capable by August, if I keep working at it.
For those of you that have made it this far, I'd like to mention that I have been working too. The first project that I have been assigned work for is the Hope International School traffic project. Basically, the school has crazy traffic during pickup times and has requested EMI design the pickup area to minimize congestion. I had the easy first task of dimensioning traffic design plans to prepare it for construction. I also successfully made my first site water demand estimate for YWAM Pailin yesterday using a wonderful Excel spreadsheet; In English, I figured out how much water and wastewater a site might use if it was built. My supervising engineer is hoping to push me towards WASH work, but I'm definitely open to any kind of work the office needs done.
There is so much more that I want to write about, but I'll have to cut it short so I can study Khmer and hopeeefully stop making people laugh with it. Thank you for reading and keeping up with my Cambodia trip. Juub knea pel kraoy (see you later)!

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is ushering in an era of potential transformation of journalism and media content. AI is about creating machines that can mimic human cognition and behavior, such as learning and problem-solving. There is concern about whether AI will displace human workers or function more as a tool to augment human capacity. NLP platform known as ChatGPT. NLP is already widely used in journalism and media operations, including news organizations such as the Associated Press, which uses AI extensively in various areas, from news gathering to news production to distribution.
Some people “argue that AI is not yet advanced enough to fully replace human journalists and media professionals, and that it is likely to complement and enhance their work rather than replace it.” Of course that’s what is said when it is created, that’s how it starts. Most of the time, when there is an invention that ends up being bad or has negative effects on people or society in general, it starts with people saying that it’s okay and that it’s not harmful, yet. Social media started out that way; it was intended to help and be entertaining; though it still is in some ways, it also has had many negative unforeseen effects. AI robots are a huge example of technology being created that is not needed, which can ultimately cause a huge problem for everyone. A similar claim is made with new robots, as with ChatGPT, that it’s meant to enhance productivity and not advanced enough to hurt anything. The reality is it might not be sophisticated enough to hurt anyone now, but people are going to keep messing around until AI is a problem. When AI can fully think for itself and no longer needs humans to program them, they might think they do not need us around anymore. I know this is a big jump from a program writing a paper to robots taking over the world, but it is important to keep AI in check as technology rapidly keeps moving forward.
The research reported implies that social media platforms no longer feel a need or desire to be associated with these cultural beliefs. Given this, questions are raised as to whether “sharing” remains a keyword for social media. There is a clear reduction in the use of the terminology of “sharing” in the self-presentation of SNSs during the decade under study. Where in the mid-2000s SNSs relied heavily on a rhetoric of sharing to promote their services, by 2020, “sharing” appears hardly at all. “Sharing,” is no longer being used to do the rhetorical work it once was. The notion of words like platform, big data, algorithms, and AI have different meanings and uses.
It is interesting that there has been a decline in certain word usage on social platforms; it’s something I have never thought about. However, I don’t really think it’s that big of a deal. It is just a form of marketing like anything else; I assume companies ran focus groups and found that users like other terms more. The word “sharing” has evolved in general since social media was invented. Sharing used to be thought of as talking to someone in person or giving a person some of your food. The word has evolved as other things have.
What will the internet look like in 2035? Or what do people want it to look like? As the article showed, most people want all positive change and to fix problems that the internet has created. I do not think that the internet will be improved in 35 from the standpoint of helping people, but it will improve in making money from users. The internet is all big business now and will continue to grow, just look at Google and the paid ads at the top. Other examples are Instagram trying to sell people items based on algorithms made for you or companies paying for top spots on websites. It’s all based on the attention economy, where the goal of websites and apps is to keep people on them; people pay with their time, not money.
The definitions and major social media applications have changed in the 25 years since the term was originally coined. Based on the definition, the results may need to be interpreted in a more or less different way. Before 2010, SM was commonly approached as a tool of connectivity for people with common interests. After 2010, the focus changed to creating and sharing user-generated content.
Social media, as a term, has had many definitions and connotations over the years of its existence. Originally intended to be thought of as positive, fun, and helpful, has turned into a lot of negatives in recent years. Many people attribute a large number of societal problems to “social media.” This is true in many cases but also a scapegoat in many others. People tend to blame “social media” for many issues that are not associated with the big umbrella term or use it as a blanket statement, such as “social media is bad.” In reality, there are always positives and negatives in all the aspects of social media and the platform that make it up.

Her habit of bottling up her emotions is easily both a strength and a weakness, because while yes she can express emotions with ease she struggle to express more negative emotions without a subconscious feeling of anxiety due to the fact in her past she was pretty much constantly in an environment that wouldn't allow for her to express such things without being mocked most likely. So she learned how to bottle those up and " SUCK IT UP " as some would put it, and this also leads into the fact she's gotten good at masking any negative emotion she feels and it's not obvious when she does it unless you're close enough to her to notice the subtle differences.
EX. Her smile not meeting her eyes, Her zoning out and not focusing as much, stuff such as that.
But because of this it's taught her how to survive situations and push aside stress and fear for the sake of not only herself but others, because if no one can think coherently there's more of a chance of someone getting hurt. In which is why the weakness of this would be the fact she has a hard time telling people how she feels because she has never truly lived up until now, she's survived. And because of what she did in order to survive, while it helped her, it's also hindered her in life.
So basically, her bottling up her emotions might have helped her survive and might be a strength to it's own degree, but at the same time it's messed up the way she expresses herself.

It takes YEARS into his adulthood to reach that point in his life, because for a long time he refused to ask for help in dealing with dealing the traumatic events he endured during Xeno//blade Chron//icales 2. He refused to truly acknowledge the fact he was traumatize until he was 19 because he felt that acknowledging the trauma was essentially blaming Pyra and Mythra for dragging him into something they didn't mean to drag him into when he was just 15. The healing process from watching people die, and processing the fact he died himself takes years to even somewhat heal from and deal with the guilt and grief he feels for those who died even though some of them didn't want to be saved or were his ENEMIES at the time.
And while some people likely don't understand why Rex would feel like this about those people, it's because he truly loves living beings and he believes everyone should have an equal chance in life no matter who they are. Rex doesn't come to hate people, sure he grows to dislike certain people, but it's super rare for him to hate someone. The only person I can say he's firmly hated was Amalthus, but that in itself is a conversation for another time.
When he's well into adulthood and has healed from the trauma, he doesn't let the regrets and past mistakes hold him back, though he does ponder on them when it's just one of those long quiet nights by himself. He's settled into Fonsett very easily and lives in his Auntie's house that he's made some well earned improvements on with permission. So now the house has more space and more privacy for anyone who may need to stay there for the night. He's done improvements on the fellow villagers houses with their permission too of course. But he still does his diplomatic and political duties as the Driver Of The Aegis by traveling around and keeping the peace around the countries, but if he's not he's often content and resting at home + taking care of the youth with Pyra and Mythra, if not training.

Things I've learned about F1 (as a new-ish fan) during the winter break, the sport and the participants of the sport: a draft I started the week after the last race of the season and have added to since.
(I was planning on posting this when the actual season started, but we're basically at winter testing now so it just felt appropriate to post. There's quite a bit, so it's all below the break).
A new Landogate occurring every winter break is not a running joke in the fandom, it is in fact, a fact. It just happens every year during the winter break. And most of the time, unfortunately for Lando, it's not even his fault or any of his own doing. People just start shit about this guy and won't let him live his life in peace.
Sebastian Vettel had bleach blonde hair and it was iconic. He's a handsome man, but the bleach blonde just was something else...like it elevated his look somehow I can't explain it.
There was a driver's strike at some point (still need to google it lmao) and while the drivers were all just chilling together apparently, their wives and girlfriends were literally partying it up and living their best damn lives, then they went and made a bunch of noise outside where Balestre (the fia president at the time) was sleeping. (I wish we'd have another drivers strike right now, feels necessary tbh)
The presenter of some sort of home improvement show has done more to ensure integrity in the sport than anyone actually working in the sport.
Charles Leclerc seemingly has a fairly calm fanbase. But when he posts photos, that's all anyone talks about for days like he could singlehandedly break the internet probably.

Cyril Abiteboul is going to be doing something for rbr (I don't quite understand it), and he will for sure be bringing critique (negative (for H*rner and M*rko at least, but positive for us lmao)) and drama (also negative (again, for H*rner and M*rko at least, but positive for us lmao)) along with him. He will assert his dominance and eventually take H*rner's spot, I just know it. See...why does dts feel the need to overdramatize the lives of drivers and create chaos? We have plenty if they focused on the right things and it'd hurt no one.
In a post-race interview in 2020 in Socchi, Lewis spoke about how the stewards were basically intentionally doing the most to prevent him from winning. Apparently, this was a controversial take at the time and no one believed him. Some things never change. I wonder if he'd been taken seriously back then if the bullshit that happened in the 2021 season would've happened? But anyway it's just become more and more obvious and it's horrible to think that not only has this been going on for years, but Lewis himself has been aware of it and has had to continue to fight even harder to keep his place in the sport. In the words of Toto Wolff, "fuckthemall."
Pierre Gasly is so deeply involved with bitcoin, that he went to a whole ass other continent to talk about it. I appreciate the hustle, but bitcoin/NFTs are apparently a bad thing so it's a bit questionable. I still don't get how any of this works or why, but I trust y'all when you say it has negative impacts on the environment and shit because I literally get none of it and I've read like 10 articles at this point but I'll never understand.

In my spare time, I've started watching Formula E and basically it's superior to F1 in nearly every way. The regs seem to be much closer so racing is more competitive, they have the coolest looking cars of any motorsport category, the commentators do a great job and I don't want to mute them while watching, and the overall aesthetic is just much more intriguing. LED halos. Futuristic light-up podiums. I'm a fan.
I have watched the 24 Hour Nascar event (not the full 24, but part of it). That alone combined with that video of Ryan Blaney singing Celine Dion has convinced me to be a Nascar and Indycar fan, so I guess I'm all in the motorsports fandom at this point. Similar to fe, they seem to have better overall regs. If f1 is the pinnacle of motorsport, why are they so far behind everyone else in terms of creating competitive regulations?
Cultural Appropriation is a full-time job for half of these dudes can someone please send them tell them google scholar is free, and there are even instagram accounts that will educate them for free? Like if you don't know if you should do something or not, it's best not to. It's just disappointing but not surprising at this point.

The fia has proven just how little they care for social issues. I mean we've known, but they've done away with "we race as one" and honestly, in the words of Toto Wolff, fuck them all. Like I understand the point of activism and doing something to improve things being more effective, and I get it (also let's face it, Domenicali and the rest of them are probably not actually doing shit to help any social issues). But we race as one has opened up conversations and gotten people to start educating themselves. Public gestures from athletes and other public figures are important because they can help to raise awareness and start important conversations. But yeah, the fia is actually horrible and I'm so tired of their bullshit it's just gotten progressively worse.
Masi got demoted or moved around or something. Yes, he will still be working for the fia, but with some new rules & regs as well as two new race directors and a new president, it does seem like (hopefully) there's an opportunity for more fairness in the sport. Only time will tell.
Pierre has turned his back on NFTs. Does this mean the trend is dying out? We could only be so lucky.
People are memeing about team lh's ability to end wars. They may be joking but honestly...it feels possible.
