#also i do think jason should be based in gotham for vigilantism but i don't see him actively wanting to get involved with the larger crowd

The idea warms are hitting extremely hard today, so outside of my usual DPxDC I give you, Spider-Man in Gotham...Not MCU Peter edition!
Give me a Peter Parker that is 18 going on onto 19, he has been Spider-Man for like, 5 almost 6 years, getting his bite very early, and dealing with all the things that happen to him younger.
And give me a Year One Batman. Who is still trying to figure out what the hell he is doing, and toting along a 9 year old Robin
Peter, falling out of a portal, and doing his standard check of surroundings, spotting Batman staring at him in clunky armor and a brightly colored child: Waves slowly
Bruce, who heard some freaky shit was happening with a cult near by and went to investigate: blinking at the blue and red being that got summoned
Dickie, who is trying (and failing) to do the Bat glare: still waves back.
And like, just the idea of this 19 year old Spider-Man taking a much older vigilante under his wing, teaching him the ins and outs of it all.
Like..
Bruce, Storming through a bag guys base gets suddenly pulled back by a web to his cape.
Peter, giving him a "bitch you dumb" look under his mask: Traps! LOOK FOR TRAPS?? AND LOOK UP? PEOPLE HID THINGS UP?
Bonus, Spider-Man bending himself into a human pretzels and Dick "I have no bones" Grayson is gleefully testing to see if he could do it too.
Jump cut, years later, Peter beats emotional intelligence into Bruce with Dick.
All the Bat kids grow up with Uncle Peter, (either Peter can't get back or has been told specifically that he can't by a higher being or something) and like...
Peter is the only one that catches Tiny Tim following them during patrol, he shows him all the places to get the best angles, even poses a few times for him.
Either is there when Jason dies and saves him, or is there mourning with Bruce
(Gotham lives in fear of the memory, Batman at his most brutal and Black Suit Spider-Man)
Teaches Jason how to control his pit rage after he comes back, what is Spider-Man if not control?
Stephanie is his bestie in puns and white girl music tastes.
Tim finds a partner in constantly staying up far to late as well as someone who likes to invent,( because I hc that Peter has pretty much worked with every scientist in New York, cus like since this is a blend of canons, he has worked with the Lizard, Doc Oct, Reed Richards, the only one he said no to an internship was Stark)
Duke gets a meta mentor that can help him with his powers, Spidey has been on more than one team with someone that had some form of light powers.
Plus I think Spider-man is Gothams daytime hero before Signal joins him, they are the daytime duo
Cass is his favorite (don't tell anyone because they already know) she can see him and he can see her in a spider sense, they do the point meme whenever they sense each other.
Little stabby Damian finds out that this person with his father has been trained by many an assassin (Wade, Daredevil, Natasha, Shield in general)
And Wade...Deadpool pops up occasionally, even he doesn't understand why or how lBruce gets a strange feeling he should punch the Flash in the face the next time he sees him)
Bruce having to deal with Deadpool is terrible for him and I sadly love it.
(Also on the point of Black suit spidey in Gotham...ESPECIALLY after Jason is murdered? Oh Peter is killing the Joker, or his arm privileges forfeit. I feel like Peter would try not to kill him but wouldn't try too hard.)
Spider-man being a founding members of the Justice League, them having to deal with Peter crawling on the ceiling, and scuttering through air vents!
Peter making Parker Industries, pointing inventions from other heros/villains from his world, he isn't above pettiness, and that's how the DC world gets some of Reed Richard's old designs he gave to Peter "Because they are practically useless" they arnt they save millions of lives. Not to mention Arc Reactors, Peter grinned the whole time claiming it was his idea.
Hope you enjoy my ADHD rambling brought to you be sleep deprivation

“jason todd should not be such a major player in batfam gotham events,” i say emphatically into the mic. “that place should go back to jean paul valley and helena bertinelli”
the crowd boos. i begin to walk off in shame, when a voice speaks and commands silence from the room.
“she's right,” they say. i look for the owner of the voice. there in the back row stands: jason todd himself

I don't know if you've already been asked this, but I was wondering if you could rank the Gotham vigilantes by combat level? Like, I've heard Black Canary is actually a really skilled martial artist, and was wondering how they compare to each other.
This question first puts forth how we classify Gotham vigilantes. Black Canary is indeed a vigilante who has often been in Gotham, but can we truly call her first and foremost a Gotham vigilante? What about the other Birds of Prey? The Outsiders? Alan Scott? Catwoman I think is safe to count by now, but Harley and Ivy have had more recent rehabilitations so?? For sanity, I'm going to keep this fairly limited.
Second it illuminates for me personally the gaps in my knowledge. I have barely read about Kate Spencer/Manhunter and skipped a lot of Kate Kane/Batwoman. I haven't read much after Flashpoint. And hey, what is even going on with Bette Kane these days?
Anyway my primary answers to what you've sent here are:
You have heard correct; Dinah is indeed known as a very skilled martial artist.
Trying to rank vigilantes one-by-one is a fool's errand and will only lead to petty infighting about "no my fave should be better" and "this comic where X won a fight against Y is clear proof, and that other comic where they lost against Y is clearly OOC"/"no, it's the other way around!!!" arguments. There is no clear order, no matter what anyone might try to convince you of, and characters will almost always be portrayed stronger and cooler in their own books, and weaker and not as good as supporting characters in someone else's book.
I think at most we should do rankings in groups:
She Gets Her Own Category
It is simply narratively important to Cassandra Cain's story for her to be the best in the world, in a way that it is not and never has been important to any of the others' narratives. Based on the metric of who's won what fight, you could maybe argue this, but based on narrative weight, no way. And I put story first, so. Perfect for a year, etc etc.
Top Tier Adult Vigilantes
Dinah, Bruce, Dick, Jean-Paul Valley, Jason, etc. Helena probably goes here, although I remember less focus on her hand-to-hand since the crossbow is so iconic.
Put two from this group in a fight, and it's not a terrible stretch for the writer to pick either as the victor.
You Go, Kid
Tim, Stephanie in and after her Batgirl era, and I think current Damian although my knowledge after the reboot tapers off.
Gonna be a struggle for them to beat one of the adults above, but they are still incredibly good fighters.
Trying Their Best
Pre-Batgirl Stephanie, early Damian. Both have grown out of it since, but in Steph's early years we were regularly being told or shown that she just didn't have the training to hold up to other Gotham vigilantes. And though Damian was surely a fantastic martial artist for a ten-year-old, it was also made regularly clear in his early preboot appearances that he wasn't half as good as he thought he was, and the older vigilantes could kick his ass if they wanted to.

Jazz as Altair (The Bluebird of Gotham)
This is based on @tireduniversityscam's Halfa Jazz with Parent Syndrome au, a.k.a. BrucexJazz & @lordgrimoire's Bluebird vigilante Jazz.
I'm thinking that Jazz's vigilante name could be either Altair after the bluebird star (as homage to her brother, the astronerd) or just simply The Bluebird. As bluebirds represent hope, love, renewal, optimism, joy, as well as symbolizing the essence of life & beauty. Not to mention Immortality.
Also, seeing a bluebird after a death represents that the soul of your lost loved one has reached the afterlife. So, seeing her tends to give comfort to those who've lost loved ones.
I see her looking like this:
Tumblr media
But maybe with her hair more resembling mist instead of water should her main element be wind instead of water to go with the bluebird aesthetic. Same color, but mist.
Here's a close up of her hat:
Tumblr media
I see her using a Fenton Whiplash (just an anti-ecto whip) or just being able to form her ectoplasm into a whip. Either/or.
Tumblr media
Also, this mask:
Tumblr media
This is her with the mask:
Tumblr media
If not a trenchcoat, then a blue cape that fans out to look like bird wings when she's flying. Like the Roc's Cape from LoZ: Minish Cap.
I always hc'd that she'd have psychic empathy, minor clairvoyance, minor mindreading, & telekinesis as a halfa cus it seems the sort of thing she'd have. She comes across as very psychic oriented.
Plus, Spectral Acknowledgement, which is a fun power:
Again, her primary core element could be either water or wind.
I see her having a ghost sense, it being a family thing. However, hers would be different based on her element. If water, it works like sonar & is more close range than Danny's & when it goes off, her eyes get watery, a single stream of tears falling from her eyes. I don't know how it'd manifest with wind, though.
I see Jazz taking the role of a medium as a vigilante. Helping Shades to move on. The Shades I think of is inspired by the ghosts from the Blackwell games & when doing medium things, Jazz tends to do similar things as in the game. Helping the Shades to get to a point where they can move on, which can result in them becoming ecto-ghosts later. However, helping Shades to fulfill whatever is keeping them on earth makes it less likely for them to become ecto-ghosts & more likely to move onto whatever is next. If she just fights them & sucks them up into a thermos, they're more likely to turn into ecto-ghosts & possibly come back. The reason being that emotional attachments, unfinished business, & so on, causes strong, often distressed emotions, which attracts ectoplasm & causes it to stick to a soul. The more ectoplasm sticks to a soul, eventually it'll form a core which is how ecto-ghosts come into being. At least, when spirits of the dead are involved.
For more on the formation of ghosts, go here:
Seriously, the Blackwell series is great & you should definitely go play it or watch someone else play it.
Anyway, Jazz does regular vigilante stuff too, but I feel like this would give her a bit of mystique as a hero. It also meshes well with her therapist focus.
I see her originally patrolling from just before midnight to just after dawn, but after Duke joins, she extended her schedule to midday in case he needs help. She works between midnight & dawn because that's the timeframe where ghosts, spirits, shades, & other such spectral entities are the strongest & cause the most disturbances with 3:00 am being when it peaks.
As for Jason as the Cardinal, I think this would look good for his mask:
Tumblr media
Also, one of these hooded jackets:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They're freaking badass!
No helmet & give him a red bird symbol on his chest.
Everything else could match with the second jacket's outfit though.
This is also a really cool design for halfa Jason:
Tumblr media
I love the design for his hair, especially the little shadowy flame for that little tuft.
I just really like the idea of Jason with shadow powers, like from @dxrksong.
One of his powers is being able to control his shadow. However, he doesn't have full-on umbramancy. Rather, like I said, he can only control his shadow. At the same time, he can cover himself in it for added protection & it gives him an aura like black flames licking over his skin. He can also make shadowy claws out of them for added melee. It's metal af, okay?
His shadow is controlled entirely by his wants, so it can do a lot of things similar to what Dr. Facilier could in Princess & the Frog.
While he can't control the shadows of others, if he makes his shadow touch other shadows, like if his shadow strangled another person's shadow, it'd result in the owner of said shadow choking for real.
At the same time, saving one's self from said shadow is as simple as shining a bright light all around themselves so that the shadow can't come near.
If they're in an alley at night with no lights, then the shadow can navigate the walls & surfaces unseen as it blends in perfectly.
Can also merge with his shadow & travel through shadows or jump from shadowy spot to shadowy spot.
Also, All-Blades are necessary. I dunno how, but they are.

I, T and X <333
Thanks for the ask bestie, this was very fun!!
I - Has tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why
BBC Sherlock. I really wanted to watch this show when it was all over tumblr and all my friends were watching it back in like 2014, but I never got around to it. Eventually, people stepped back and were like "actually, so much about this show sucks so much", and I was just kinda glad I'd never actually watched it yet and now I won't. If I want Sherlock content, tbh, I'll probably just rewatch "Elementary, Dear Data" from Star Trek: TNG. Or finally finish the Enola Holmes stuff.
T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending, about anything at all (gender identity, sexual or romantic orientation, extended family, sexual preferences like top/bottom/switch, relationship with poetry, seriously anything)
Duke Thomas cannot make direct eye contact with people. It gives him a splitting headache. Since eyes both absorb and reflect light, looking directly at someone's eyes creates a sort of feedback loop of light beams for him.
Cass is, in all actuality, older than Jason. However, because there is some ambiguity about her precise age, both of them frequently insist they are the older sibling of the two. They could very easily confirm who is older; they both refuse because they don't want to be wrong.
Steph is more of the common sense in the batfam than people give her credit for. Don't get me wrong, she is far from normal (she is vigilante, she grew up in Gotham), but she is the one with the wherewithal to, idk, solve her problems by actually talking to people. She's clever and witty and quick on her feet and actually some really good and really practical people skills.
Duke and Jason are both functionally immortal for different reasons. (Also, they are good brothers and DC needs to bring back the two of them getting to interact).
Tim doesn't call Bruce "dad" and probably never will. Not because he doesn't see Bruce as his parent, but because "dad" has some very complex connotations for him and he doesn't want to apply those to Bruce. More specifically, because good batdad is canon to me, Bruce is better than what "dad" means to him. (It’s also important to me that Jack does try to be a father to Tim and does love him. But loving your kid is not always enough. Sometimes you still hurt them).
There's definitely something I'm forgetting that I'm even more die hard about, but this is already more than I intended on writing for this one 😂 needless to say this is a fun question. (Also maybe putting this out will kickstart me writing the fics I have planned based on 3 of these)
X - top 5-10 characters who are yoUR PRECIOUS BABIES AND YOU WILL DIE DEFENDING THEM
Tried very hard not to just put every single batkid on this list but know that I would go to war for any of them I love them all so much.
In no particular order
1. Jason Todd -- listen, do I think his philosophy on crime should be applied to the real world? No, absolutely not. Has he done anything wrong ever? Also no.
2. Duke Thomas (bonus: the whole We Are Robin crew) -- if you hate Duke Thomas, meet me in Denny's parking lot. Something is clearly wrong with you and I will right it via blunt force trauma /j.
3. Tim Drake -- Catch me untangling the mess that is his fanon and canon characterizations and weaving a beautiful tapestry out of it. I see so many wrong interpretations about him and I am tired. Very carefully sorting out what should and shouldn't be kept from both fanon and canon every time I write him.
4. Cassandra Cain -- she has done nothing wrong ever and she deserves to be Batman. my favorite weirdgirl ever <3
5. Trevor Belmont -- my wife /p just introduced me to Castlevania and I did not expect to love it this much. Trevor is my babygirl and I would die for him.
6. Sypha -- I love her soooo much and I am dreading any potential romantic arcs to come about since she's the female lead because I really don't think she needs it. Please let her be cool af and single and not ruined in favor of the inevitable contrived romance, oh god.
7. Rise!Mikey -- I started my dive into tmnt content with Rise and then I tried to go back and watch 2012 because people said it was also good but they were so mean to Mikey 😭 I couldn't do it. He is like a squeaky toy to me.
8. Rise!Donnie -- I am captivated by his autism swag. Enough said. (Him and Mikey as a brother duo is so precious to me).
9. Razer -- Watch Green Lantern: The Animated Series if you haven't already. Do it. I promise you will not regret it. I won't say anything because spoilers but I have so much to say.
10. Talia al Ghul -- I am taking a knife to canon and carving out the parts I don't like because she is a good mom, goddammit!
Bonus: Koriand'r. I haven't read enough comics to know much about her, but I respect woman juice everyday for my favorite 6+ ft buff alien woman. (She should get to be huge and strong and I will fight for that).

The Absurdly Long Jason Comics Post
This is all personal! I’m not claiming what’s canon or not and I’m not the final judge for anything - this is just what I like and what I don’t! Also this generally isn’t talking about the overall quality of the comics and the writing unless I specifically mention it, just how I feel about Jason in them. So....recs and unrecs, I guess, under the cut! I mostly just cover the well known ones, maybe one day I’ll do the less well known or really short ones.
Foundations:
These are what I personally view as the base of Jason characterization, this is the basics of what I’m going to use to gauge future characterization and where I get some fundamental character characteristics from.
Robin Years (Detective Comics #568-#582, Batman #408-#426, The Cult)
Robin Jason is the bedrock foundation of all Jason for me. When I think about post-resurrection characterizations of him, my primary concern is “Does this make sense as a progression from Robin Jason? Is this a person he could concievably become after x event?” If the answer is no? I’m out!
Important character takeaways for me here are: Violently upset by abuse, strong desire to punish people who hurt women, experience with an addict mother, a father who turned to crime, and himself turning to theft to survive, very empathetic.
Under the Red Hood
🎵the boy is back in town 🎵
Bruce’s characterization here is shaky
narratively, this story is gorgeous. this is a greek tragedy in a comic.
the scene where he beats the joker is the most pure and cathartic expression of a victim’s rage i’ve ever seen. this is a comic about coming back from trauma screaming and vicious and demanding blood.
that said? the things he does here can be rough to square with his later character developments and i do think parts of this are best just accepted as a thing that happened that won’t ever be addressed because they decided they didn’t want to go with that character direction.
A-Listers
These are things outside of what I consider foundational that I think are Excellent.
Lost Days
This doesn't get put in foundational because it actually came out 5 years after UTRH but it's one of my favorite Jason comics. I wrote a whole post on how I think this tackles the subject of Jason & killing better than any other comic.
Task Force Z:
I went into TFZ knowing nothing about it except the concept and expected it to be awful and instead it became my favorite Jason characterization of recent comics.
I'm really grateful that Rosenberg is pushing back against the narrative that Jason died being reckless and is presenting Jason as competent and highly skilled - which he should be! The idea that *any* former Robin wouldn't be an excellent detective and fighter is just absurd, even if we don't take Jason's own history into account.
That I said really strongly dislike having Jason say he wants to do better than just street vigilante work. I think I don't mind the idea they were going for here? Like I think they were trying to echo Jason's frustration at how cyclical and futile all their work is? But it's worded So poorly and I think Jason should always fiercely love Gotham, the city that made him and killed him and brought him back.
Jason as a smart fighter! Built like a tank but agile as a gymnast and smart as hell, that's my man.
He chokes someone with his thighs, what more do you want?
Robin 80th Anniversary Special
Fun fact this is actually my hands down favorite thing written about Jason ever.
The way Robin Jay and current Jason are tied together. The melancholy fondness, Bruce and Jason loving each other but there still being a gulf between them.
It's very short, I don't have a lot to say, it's just quiet and fragile snapshot of two people who love each other deeply, even after all this time and all this pain and a distance that seems insurmountable.
RHATO Rebirth 1-11ish
Look. Lobdell is an awful writer and horrible person. He is a sexual predator and it does show in his writing of women.
Most of RHATO is garbage and not even the fun kind. The early issues of rebirth are, somehow, genuinely good despite all that.
Jason showing his love for Gotham! Jason being caring and gentle with Bizzaro! Jason's immediate ride or die loyalty (some fatal flaws continue even after death, huh, Jay?). Jason having severe and vivid flashbacks and hallucinations of his death and himself as Robin!
Also the premise of the initial arc of this one makes more sense to me as something Jason might do than most other outlaw plots, like Jason knows Black Mask is planning something and is worried about it - that makes sense for Red Hood to investigate. Jason is actually showing....concern for his city, which is a good thing.
B-listers:
WFA
The thing about WFA, for me, is you cannot go into it expecting normal comics characterization.
I view WFA as like the comics where everyone gets turned into kids. You know going in this is meant to be lighthearted and will remain so even at the cost of characterization.
And honestly? I don't think it does that bad of a job. This isn't my Jason but this is a person I could see Jason becoming if the world had been kinder to him and the other bats.
C-listers:
Titan Tower
My view of this issue is very negatively influenced by how it has Raven trash Robin Jason as “always wanting to be the best” in the same issue after the attack, when Jason’s time in the Titans in canon was him being incredibly empathetic and mature for his age, and actually admitting that he was too young to lead them when Donna tried to make him.
The thing about it is I don't think "Jason being an ass to Tim" is ooc it's just this specific bizarre situation? Why does Jason suddenly care about Tim, specifically, when all his anger has been at Bruce before this?
The most out of character thing here though is that they gave his Robin costume pants. I know my man is brave enough to rock the scaly panties again.
Brothers in Blood
I think my hottest take in this post is putting this one higher than "no" but like hear me out!
I really like that this shows Jason and Dick both saving each other and despite everything genuinely have some? Strange bond? And it think it's cute.
I also appreciate how differently Dick reacts to Jason killing and I think this is one of the more realistic reactions he could have. He doesn't try to engage Jason about the actual killing as much as it's effects - Jason killed a kidnapper in front of a child, probably traumatizing her, and he's damaged Nightwing's reputation and Dick is rightfully pissed about it.
Speaking of. Why is he dressed as Nightwing. Did he get a two for one costume deal when he was commissioning his adult sized robin one? There's never a good answer given for this one. Even if he didn't want to bring back Red Hood as his persona at the time, surely they don't expect us to believe he's so uncreative he can't think up a temporary identity. If he was actually shown to *want* to ruin Dick's reputation, that might be a reason. But he doesn't seem to hold any ill will towards Dick here so it's just ????
Even worse, though, is that he makes some creepy comments to Cheyenne. That's something I find unforgivable in a Jason characterization. Make him mean, make him cruel, make him a callous asshole - but nothing about his Robin years shows us a boy who would grow up to be disrespectful of women. Robin Jason would punch this Jason.
Seriously though why the tentacles.
RHATO (nu52)
Kori we're gonna get you out of there
I do like the little flashback of sick Jason staying home with Bruce. That’s it.
RHATO rebirth 12ish-end
I know everyone focuses on how brutal Bruce is with his son in #25, and that's absolutely fair, but frankly I think this is just beyond the pale for what Bruce should or would do to *anyone* in this situation like I think even movie and game Bruces would look at him here and say he's being a bit much.
We aren't touching that weird abuse apologism Willis storyline with a 10ft pole.
Urban Legends: Cheer
I would honestly take a villainous and his own code of ethics breaking but competent Jason over this dumb brute shit Zdarsky feeds us.
Jason killing while emotional I can believe. Jason "took over a crime empire and bought out part of WE at 18 and fresh from the grave" Todd suddenly unable to track down a drug without harassing addicts I cannot.
Jason is a good detective. Jason is someone who plans things meticulously. This is not Jason.
What is with the Robin Jason and guns flashback. Does Zdarsky think guns operate using some sort of psychological curse upon their user, and Jason was infected and became obsessed? I can only assume that because otherwise there's no reason for this section.
10 year old Jason apparently murdering someone? Does Zdarsky walk around poor areas worrying about getting merced by traumatized grade schoolers?
Jason works as an interesting character because he should be presenting and embodying an actual moral conundrum but the morals in this storyline are so vapid and shallow that Zdarsky can't actually have a well written Jason.
The plot makes no sense because the kid couldn't have gone home with his father either way so making it into "but now he's Jason's responsibility" is SILLY okay okay deep breaths I'm done
NO:
These are comics I will under no circumstance consider as in character. I don't count them as canon. I don't take them into account when I write meta. They may as well not exist to me.
Battle for the Cowl
This is a just travesty for everyone involved, not only Jason. Jason going on a murderous rampage. Jason shoots Damian. Bad for everyone, bad for Jason, terrible story, let's all pretend this was a fever dream.
Hey at least Jason is presented as relatively skilled though.
Robin Vol. 2
Jason "no selling to kids or you go in the duffel bag" "killed his teacher for using child soldiers" Todd is going to condone using the "child gangs" of Gotham? No. Absolutely not. Go sit in the corner and think about what you've done.
Batman & Robin (Morrison)
Why is his hair red. Why would he try to kill Dick or Damian. Why would he poison the prison's food supply. What's with the helmet. Why does he strip Dick & Damian. Winnick tries to salvage the last two issues with him in this run but there was nothing to save in this hideous ooc mess. If I thought this was what Jason was like, I wouldn't like him either.
The idea of Bruce making Jason dye his hair just to get a blonde and a girl Robin later is a hilarious concept though like maybe I’d become a mass murdering maniac too if I found out I did all that and he just let it drop later.

I'd like to preface this by saying that this is from my - brown, first-gen, oldest kid/basically third pseudo-parent - perspective and that because of it, it may affect how I view the parent-child relationships as opposed to other people, even those like myself.
I'd argue that Bruce is a good parent objectively, definitely has a lot of faults and made more than enough mistakes, and that me saying so shouldn't be as controversial as it is. (It should be noted that many of the most obvious and glaring examples of Bruce's mistakes or moments of being just a bad parent are ooc or can be explained, not excused, through context. Don't get it twisted though, some of the shit he's done is inexcusable point blank, cause I know you girls like to tussle and bring in shit that's not even relevant. 😒)
I say it shouldn't be controversial because what I'm saying is really not anything that outlandish. Like I'm not saying he's a great and/or flawless parent. I'm basically calling him mid.* 😭
And a lot of people can't see that because their own parental relationships affect how they view Bruce's, because they're projecting onto certain characters, even if subconsciously. And that's fine, I just wished people would be more aware of when their own relationships affect the how they write or interpret Bruce's and his kids relationship.
(Idealistically, I'd like for people to clarify that they make bad dad Bruce content because of their own experiences in some capacity -like by saying itself self indulgent- but people shouldn't even feel like they should air out their issues for the sake of my comfortability.)
Enough of me being an idiot for the sake of comfort, the point is Bruce is not a bad parent, intentionally.
Don't get me wrong he fucks up a lot but a good amount of the shit he fucks up is cause of how socially inept he is, some of it could literally be fixed with better timing, and he really loves his kids even if he doesn't express himself as freely (loose use of the word freely) as he did before Jason's death.
(I do wish the Batman writers would get off their self indulgent power fantasy by not only having Bruce, and themselves, acknowledge what he did wrong, even if down the line, by having him apologize in a Brucey sense. That being physical touch or like many immigrant parents, like my own, through things like food.)
* You guys do remember that good is literally not a big stretch. Its literally saying he's average, not bad but not great, just kinda in the middle. 💀
Also don't bring up that "BUt hE lEtS tHE KiDS FiGHtE cRimE" cause:
1. That man not only implanted the idea but dedicated himself to the idea of stopping all crime in Gotham -so that others wouldn't have to go through the loose of loosing a or loved ones, like he did- since he was 10 and in some shit started training and preparing for something along the idea of crime fighting at that age as well. (In more modern stuff he started as a teen but that still means he was a kid when he started this concept.)
2. He was doing literal vigilante shit as a child/teen too. (Again depends cause DC hates consistency.)💀
3. It's a fucking comic, while it's based in the real world it make no secret of ignoring a lot of real world logic/aspects for the sake of story telling. Like, the reason why kids are vigilante or out crime fighting is for the reader (target audience of kids) to enjoy. It's the definition of literally not that deep.
"BUt hE'S tHe ADuLT, hE sHOUld NoW bETTer-"
1. That man both grew up too quickly but never grew up as well, he's very idealistic and thinks like a kid sometimes. More often than not you see his own family and friends describe him as a frightened child that never let go.
2. He was in his early twenties when he took in Dick (having a 10-14 yr age gap depending on continuity, making it hard for him to not think of him as both as son and/or brother when the role fit. 😭) and he really thought he was helping Dick by training him instead of the kid going out on his own, if he refused, to take down Zucco because he didn't want him to end up like him.
3. Why go only after Bruce? 🤨 I literally don't see half the flack Bruce gets for any of the shit I've previously talked about with other heros, even when what they've done has been worse. 😒
(Listen, I get it, the fanboys and male who project themselves onto Bruce as their power fantasy are fucking annoying, it's a reason why I hate a particular sector of Comic writers/runs and a lot of the live action shit. -Looking at you Frank Miller, wtf are you taking cause I think the government needs to sample it or smth. What is with the fucking meows, Tom King? -)
Extras:
1. Also, just as a reminder cause some of you mfs be blind, Bruce pushes for his villains towards rehabilitation. (He doesn't just want to beat him up, but comic book nerds would be damn if they didn't see some violence. )
Like there's a reason why he helps out the common people as Bruce and Batman a lot, because he genuinely wants Gotham to be better to be a good and most importantly safe. And he goes about it by funding the city and a good portion of the people within. (You can literally find multiple examples of him going up to people as Batman and giving them a card or telling them to ask Wayne Enterprise's for a job because they are guarantee to get one.)
2. Cause I know some people are gonna bring up Rhao.
Fyi, don't take anything Rhao Jason says that seriously cause a lot of the thing is either ooc or inconsistent, and it's only Jason saying it without backing from anyone else in the family. (It also doesn't match with what we see of his training or Robin days so why use it for an argument. ☠️)
3. We need to have some Non-misogynistic writers rewrite Stephanie's time as Robin cause the writers really seem like they hated her and you can see it with how they wrote Bruce. (Note Bruce was also really harsh with her cause he wanted her to not get involved in that life but that doesn't excuse it.)
4. An argument can be made that Jason is Bruce's favorite child because none of the other kids would get away with half the shit Jason has done. (You could also argue it's because Jason is the first kid Bruce took in with the intention of being a parent/parental figure for.)
Heads up: This isn't my main so my replies would hypothetically be through reblogs. So yeah. 😭

TW: Drugs, substance abuse, murder, violence, the Punisher
Another potentially unpopular opinion I've seen on here (and one that I'll actually rant about) is that, Jason is the only good vigilante in the Batfam because he kills people (think the direct quote is "unlike those other feckless bitches" and something like "when you get saved by Red Hood, you know that you'll never have to worry about getting attacked by the same person again". I don't know how to explain to people that killing the type of criminals Jason killed in canon is wrong and harmful (thinking about the 80 Blackgate prisoners he poisoned - hmm you know the American prison system is pretty fucked up i'm sure they all totally belonged there /s). Like. Jason killing the Joker is one thing, but he literally hasn't killed the Joker - Dick did that, Bruce tried to, but Jason hasn't. But like some people make it out like oh, Jason being a killer is fine because he only kills people that deserve it - who, tell me who he's killing? Sex offenders and drug dealers seems to be the most common reply. And I won't touch the sex offenders but drug dealers? Have you heard of the War on Drugs? Have you seen what happens when people in power decide it's okay to openly promote the killing of drug dealers? I don't understand why people think it's fine for Jason Todd to go around killing drug dealers, as if they don't have families, don't have other things that put them in a bad situation. There's a reason why cops in the US (idk if they do this elsewhere) use the Punisher skull as their emblem - and if you advocate for a Jason Todd that punishes criminals, don't be surprised when the right wing weaponizes him against minorities and the red hood helmet starts to get painted on cop cars.
I wrote a paper on the Norwegian prison system which rehabilitates and releases even the "worst" of criminals and just... I live in the US and it seems like we (specifically white people) have such little compassion for anyone who commits crime. Even after the War on Drugs, even after we learned it was a scam, people fall for the crime and punishment rhetoric time after time. Like I live in a suburb where people are so scared of drug dealers my mom literally called our neighbor because someone cut through our yard (and she thought he looked high or something idk). Which I get it, my cousin died from a fentanyl overdose, I understand you don't want that near your kids. But incarcerating or killing drug dealers is not the answer, and I can't stand it when people take that stance on Jason. You can try to explain the 8 drug dealer heads in a duffle bag any way you want, but at the end of the day, I think the batfamily fandom needs to be more careful addressing this issue because demonizing drugs/drug dealers/drug users is literally one of the ways the American government destroys black communities.
And to think, the Jason Todd stan that this opinion came from replied to me because I commented on how Jason likes to run around in Dick's old clothes - something that has absolutely no bearing on his morals, other than he's thrifty which is a good thing actually, something like 85% of clothes ends up in landfills. Sorry for the rant, you asked for it. Sorry if anyone who sees this likes Jason Todd and is offended, you're not bad for liking him, he has an interesting story, just please don't advocate for murdering common criminals, specifically drug dealers.
AAAHHH NOO BUT IVE SEEN SOME OF MY MOOTS DISCUSS THIS BEFORE
sorry it's late and fucking hot I don't have the most comprehensive reply dbdnhd and I do acknowledge that at the end of the day this is fiction but opinions real people hold come from SOMEWHERE - and I think we have a very ingrained belief that crime/bad deed has to be punished and that there are good and evil people and good people only do bad things when influenced by evil people which is exactly the core of jason's belief - and that's interesting for a batfam character, a former robin!! I like when him and bruce are contrasted based on ethics but I don't like when it's meant to show that jason is right and bruce is wrong
batman is an extremely popular and fascinating character because at his core lies the idea that systems that are in place to 'protect' people are corrupt and it's down to individuals who can do something to go against them and look out for others - that's something that will resonate with people even if irl solution can't be to dress up as a bat and beat tf outta people shdhhshs
I have two points to make here:
a) I'm straight up a fucking anarchist who lives in the woods, thinks aliens are listening, and doesn't trust the government but I don't believe systems are corrupt, I believe they operate the way they are meant to operate to punish and control the populations that the system needs to be controlled to keep up the status quo - war on drugs is such a good example for that. drug dealer also exists as this boogeyman, this idea of an evil person waiting to corrupt and destroy the good people but the fact is: people don't get addicted to drugs bc drug dealers exist, people get addicted to drugs because something, not someone, compels them to do drugs, because something (literal us gov) introduced drugs to their communities and drug dealers are just tiny pawns in that game. additionally, many dealers are addicts themselves who got roped into selling to pay for their own use or who got pushed into the margins of society so much that drug trade is the only way to survive they can find
there are like, whole papers and books and thesis done on this so I'm not gonna act like I can analyse it in a tumblr post dhshsjsj but yeah people who think jason is right usually show this weird superiority of 'oh batman doesnt get how to fix gotham like jason does' and like... no, jason gets played like a fiddle by the system the way people he kills do, and whatever he does will always just hit the other pawns and never reach those actually at the top, those who are profitting from finding scapegoats
and like, batman comics don't have to address that bc it's comics, you can write small lmao but don't argue that jason is somehow more enlightened than bruce for killing
b) this brings a question of, if we decide that there has to be punishment for every crime, who gets to decide what punishment is right for what crime? cause there's not a single person who's infallible enough to dictate what the best approach is in every situation
and batman works best as a traumatised man who's loves his city sm he tries to work however he can to protect people from corrupt systems and offer them second chances wherever he can bc that's who batman is at his core - batman is not a punisher he is a protector and he should never be pushed into a role of the punisher bc he's not edgy enough
also bitches are so hard acting like they would kill every villain cause rip to batman but I'm different, y'all are too scared to tell the waitress your order is wrong shut the fuck up lmao the closest any of y'all have been to being batman is getting your ass beat behind the club on a saturday by brenda in her boohoo jumpsuit

This is what won as well as responses to almost if not all the comments left.
After this I'll make the new one to go over some of the options you guys brought up to refine it.
Ok, so first here are the things that are done and will be in the next one.
Y/n will be a vigilante. (83.3% voted yes)
Enemies forced to work together (76.7% voted yes)
Enemies to lovers (76.7% voted yes)
Dating to stay undercover (53.3% voted yes, 23.3% voted its fake dating, thats always an option)
Fashion (76.7% voted Fashion)
People might die. (36.7% voted just not the batfam and co, 26.7% voted no please let everyone live, and 26.7% voted maybe as long as I don't like them)
Angst response is easier to show then to type out.
Tumblr media
So now were on to the three questions where you could type your answers.
Things you don't want.
+ means there different requests I put together
Stalker ex boyfriends + SA and yanderes + Crazy ex + Allusion to s*xual *ssault + dark themes, r@pe, abuse, cheating + S**ic*de. It's a really bad trigger for me. If it ends up in play, trigger warning in advance.
First off, I don't really want to do any of these and I know I've done some of them before so I get why you're bringing it up. I'm actually trying to avoid them more now because its not the best for me to be writing them and all that.
As for the dark themes, its based off DC so I can't promise that not coming up as for trigger warnings, I'm not the best at them but I do try to put them before any part that has things in them so that's a given. But for the most part the only ones of these I see happening is the dark themes and those would mostly be the normal Gotham things.
Pet’s Dying, My pets dying lol
I mean, I figured out a way to help stop that so you don't have to worry about it.
Really gritty violence?
The nice thing about smau is that people don't normally post that type of thing on social media, escpecially if your trying to keep your identity secret. Also I don't like how I write things like that so I try to avoid it. There might be mentions of it happening but I doubt I'll ever go into too much detail on it.
SLOW BURN LIKE NO SIS I CAN'T HANDLE THAT
Well, since undercover dating won there won't be too much to slowburn.
If it is enemies to lovers, please don't make them too antagonistic
No this would be my favorite version of enemies to lovers. They may be enemies but they know that the other isn't actually that bad but they have pride so its really just petty in general.
IF YOU KILL THE MAIN CHARACTER AGAIN IM COMING FOR YOUR KNEECAPS
Jokes on you I took my own knee caps
jason being a whore
I love this but you don't want it which almost makes me sad but ok anon. I'll try not to make Jason a whore.
No kids: just everyone being young and living it up without being too idk domestic?
Ok, idk how to avoid making it too domestic but I'll try.
Anything you do want?
Having to live together. Cohabitation
Easy. I got you anon.
Titus and co as well as Jason bestie + bat cow 💕 + reader may be enemies with dick but reader and damien have a brother-sister bond
These three kinda go hand in hand and I like all of them.
Soulmate au? Secret dating?
Probably not soulmate au and secret dating would have to be a side relationship because Dick and Y/n would be fake dating. So I could do it, but I need another couple to do it with.
Stupidly cute fluff + happiness maybe + Some sweet domestic fluff is always nice :)
Already wanted all of these in it, so you three are thinking on the same wavelength as i am.
SASSY PET RACCOON LIVING HIS BEST LIFE , FAKE DATING where maybe ONE of the batfam still don't believe that they are dating and try everything to prove that they aren't which leads to Dick and reader to try absolutely anything to convince everyone
I love it. Thank you. However the pet raccoon isn't confirmed yet as there were a bunch of other options people put in so I'm going to have that one run again.
john mulaney quotes
THE FACT I NEVER THOUGHT OF THIS I TRULY SAD. THANK YOU FOR TELLING ME!! THIS WILL DEFINITELY HAPPEN
Flustered Dick, even if lowkey + Dick's ass
I'm combining these simply because together, they give me some great ideas.
y/n having literally EVERYONE wrapped around her finger (maybe one exception idk)
Ok, but really. This is a great idea. Everyone just loving her but one of them sitting in the corner like. "Idk man, something about her isn't right..." Proceeds to sip drink.
CAR CHASE CAR CHASE And maybe slowdancing in the rain
So these were sent in by the same person. I like both! I like both a lot. I just figured out how to do a car chase in smau so its all good!!!!
Soft, moonlit whispers as one of them bleeds deeply + Dicks reaction to love interest being hurt, badly. I always love that. + fluff, and angst (maybe reader getting injured really badly)
I might get in trouble for this, but I do like the ideas... A lot...
More action
I'll try! I've found it a little hard with smau and I'm not the best action writer but I do want to add more action so I'll try to figure out how to do more.
Anything else or is it all covered?
pls for gods sake, for my sake, for your sake, don't kill the pets
Ever since I got this, it was one of the first so its been a little while. I keep wondering if its a threat? But again, pets dying isn't planned. I should have enough to go for plot so that there is no need to kill pets.
A lil bit of CRACK just batfam crack in general oh and maybe BATCOW making an appearance
The only problem with batcow, is pinterest doesn't have many pictures of cows that look like they could be pets because there are rarely people with them so thats why batcow hasn't shown up. Since I have more time to plan this one, I'll look for more options and see if I can find any.
what if, and hear me out, we made it gay🌈? or, at least, masc fem reader?
No, simply because I'm not comfortable writing it as the main relationship/character. I've tried before and I didn't like it in the least and scrapped a week work. So If I tried I doubt I would finish it, if I did, it wouldn't be good because I would probably just give up part way through. So I can definitely do ships and all that that aren't the main but for some reason every time I've tried to do it as a main relationship, I hate it. Sorry!
it would be cool to have more poc or lgbtq rep
I'm actually planning for more poc to happen in the current one. I noticed lack of poc not long ago and confused myself as to why so there will definitely be more representation.
As for lgbtq, I'll try. I was planning on trying to have at least one ship or something because I haven't. But as long as its not the main relationship I can do it so that I'll at least post it.
kiss ily muah
I love you too! muah! I really needed this, thank you!
NO KIDS PLEASE AND THANK U
Ok, No kids and you're welcome.
If there is an instance of fashion, could they help each other get ready, and laugh and joke a lot?
You genius you! Of course I love it!
Nope everything’s perfect! love from yours truly fuzzycloudsz <33 + All covered + All good! + We good + That's all. I love your stuff. + its covered !!!@ cant wait!!! + All good
I'm glad I got everything then! Thank you guys! I'm glad you like my stuff and that your excited for the new one!
