Can we talk about Mileven for a minute. Another reason I don't buy their romantic relationship is the fact that most of their one on ones as a romantic couple (S3) are comedic and not very serious. Where are the deep conversations and when are we ever shown how much they understand each other... post (S2). It's almost like once they started dating they became a joke? Yes they have a few sweet moments but it's also scripted to be laughable. (S4) never showed them having a honest deep convo resolving issues and growing romantically. It could happen in (S5) but at this point I don't see the emotional romantic draw.

And then there is Byler to compare it to, where most of their one on ones are much much more serious, deep, heartfelt, with actual evidence of understanding and talks involving their feelings (which Mike seems to not have an issue with unlike his plot in S4 with El). This, mind you, happens to some degree in every season with Will. If Mike just sees Will as his best friend, why is he so serious about Will especially alone together. Even best friends are more casual then this.

Also a side note. The (S3) Mileven straight stereotype of the 'lazy, lying, clueless boy' dating the 'girl who is playing hard to get to teach her boyfriend a lesson' troupe is icky and makes me want El to find her power solo and Mike to remember that the old Mike (who has a special will voice) is a much better person and boyfriend. Thoughts?

To anyone who says anything along the lines of ‘oh, Mleven can’t be broken up, they’ve been building up this whole time!’ Or ‘here’s the slow burn everyone wanted,’ or ‘Mike and El have grown so much even after fighting,’ I really don’t understand how any of that is founded. I totally agree and I feel like their relationship has been rather unserious. Even in the most serious love-centered topics of support (s1), connection (s2), breakups (s3), and expression (s4), it’s really interesting to me how their relationship has consistently lacked depth.

Despite dealing with some of the most important aspects of strong relationships, they aren’t close enough to showing, providing, or proving to have one. Mike supports El in season 1 as she does him, protecting and aiding each other with their strengths. But… so does everyone in that season to each other? The only difference is that Mike sheltered El which is very sweet, but not inherently romantic.

Then there’s season 2, which I must confess - I think that their reunion scene at the end of the season remains one of the sweetest moments on the show. Ever. It’s raw and emotional, and this was the closest thing we got to something romantic. But what shoots it down is the fact that their emotion was due to forced separation and Mike’s very real complex grief which gets completely glossed over in the show. So, I don’t know. It’s tricky. So are they romantic yet? They get virtually no time together. It’s a no for me.

And oh yeah, season 3 was the peak of unserious-ness. I also don’t enjoy that trope of ‘the boy chasing the girl who just doesn’t get it yet and she snubs him until the very end’ kind of energy. I swear that that stuff is littered in family-friendly movies usually as comedic relief, and Mike and El just barely made that trope more serious at the very least. Their breakup is dramatized and humorous, and the way that it’s mended still makes me chuckle. Mike offers her M&Ms, compliments her looks, they smile at each other, and suddenly they’re all good again? Yeah, that’s not very clear romance to me. All season long, they keep resisting each other. Mike lashes out to everyone and declares that he loves El but can’t say it to her face, and El has Max’s words tattooed on her heart that she keeps asserting that she deserves trust. The two just don’t quite reach each other that season. The second that I heard Hopper say that they’ve only been kissing all Summer long without complaining about them talking, I knew that I was not going to be invested in their relationship this season.

And so season 4 was truly the nail in the coffin, the final turning point. They’re not only shallow in making up, they’re shallow in being together. El isn’t honest with Mike about her time in Lenora, how she’s spent it, the people she’s met, the fun she’s truly having. Mike snaps about Will being disinterested, so it’s pretty clear that he was dishonest about his true feelings that day, too. And the most telling part is that he’s not mad at El. He’s mad at Will.

I think that what the writers have done is craft something so deeply intricate and hidden with Mike and Will to the point of confusion in much of the audience today. Will has always been a buffer of affection for Mike. In season 1 he’s the one they’re searching for. In season 2, he’s the one that Mike protects. In season 3, he’s the true breakup that Mike fights for. In season 4, he’s the listening ear and bleeding heart that Mike relies on. Their love only gets stronger and stronger whereas Mike and El are simply loving under the guise of physical closeness. I seriously think that that’s all that they have for each other.

That hug sequence at the end of season 4 really shocked me, because when I saw Mike and El hugging (not to mention that shot with Will right between them) I thought that it was sweet, but then suddenly Will and El are hugging, the siblings who are absolutely platonic, and it felt more emotional than Mike and El’s embrace. So not only are Mike and El visually equated to a platonic relationship, but their bond doesn’t even hold the same weight as the sibling-hood of Will and El.

It’s just wild to me that people don’t see it. I think that Byler is made abundantly clear for us to root for. The crazy together scene did it for me the first time I saw it. It was and still is one of my favorite scenes ever because it’s the total package. Closeness? Check. Honesty? Check. Hurt/comfort? Check. Matching, nerdy Halloween outfits? Check. The lack of anyone or anything else to distract them? Check. The crazy together scene is a marker of their relationship, and it never, ever dies.

Even though they fight, where are they years later? They’ve gone through supernatural and personal troubles together, and they’re still by each other’s side. “Friends. Best friends.” The same at heart. They promise to support each other, they reconnect, they come back from every breakup, and they readily express things on their minds and hearts. They’re there for each other and tell each other things that no other boys in the party have told each other.

Mike and El try to understand each other, they do, and sometimes it’s just trying that’s enough, but on a truly intimate level, that’s bullshit. Mike and Will have everything that they need and want for each other, and there’s no going through hoops to get it besides internalized homophobia. Which I very well think can be reasonably addressed next season.

So yep. Byler is endgame.

ajdhg but actually while i do really like vampire helia for a multitude of reasons and i do think it makes sense aesthetically and personality wise, i feel like ghost helia is SO good and so underappreciated!! like i have an entire au idea for this Please imagine victorian era immigrant helia dying after protecting his grandfather from idk fucking robbers or something ajdhg it's so choice!! it brings together his aesthetic, his personality, and his choices about red fountain! it also really brings out his more haunted/tragic/depressed vibes that vampire helia doesn't always do (really depends on the design and what part of his personality they're focusing on tbf).

but also!! for the other characters, aisha is obviously a saltwater sea monster! it's hard to pick between fire elemental and dragon for bloom... but deity could also work for her since the dragon is like,, canonically a deity so? idkidkidk maybe she could be a hybrid! i usually see people design tecna as a robot but i really like the half robot/half human or monster idea for her more! i feel like it fits her inner troubles a lot! flora is definitely a plant monster but i could also see her being nature elemental! musa,,, is so hard for me because there aren't a lot of music focused monsters in mh,, like do we go with phantom? i kinda like the idea of her being a gargoyle but like,,, idk man,,,,, i like light elemental stella personally but vampire stella is also pretty choice!!

Kendo isn't really a Yandere for me per-say, he's more obsessed with Taishiro and I am simply enabling him because I think he's cute, so these questions may not have clear or straight forward answers. Apologies.

🥀 - What type of yandere is your f/o?

Rappa is a very obsessive Yandere. He'll get someone, usually someone stronger than him, in his head and won't be able to let them go until he either defeats them or finds someone else even stronger.

In the mean time he'll idolize and worship the object of his affection as the Ideal Person. He wants to be exactly like them, he wants to cater to their every whim, he wants to be their rival and their other half, he wants them to be as obsessed with him as he is with them.

He's also a very up front stalker. He's not hiding behind corners and tailing in the shadows, he's following them everywhere they go out in broad daylight, talking to them like they're already a lovey-dovey couple. He has no filter either so he will say the most obscene disgusting shit out loud in public with no shame.

⛓️ - Do they keep you in captivity? Or are you allowed to have your own freedom?

Kendo is walking a very thin line of Technically supposed to be serving prison time but got out on probation so long as a pro-hero who can counter him (Tai and I) keep an eye on him, so it's more like we're keeping him contained than him keeping us contained.

I'm sure if he could lock Taishiro up in a room and beat him up till all his fat was gone, feed him back to full strength, and then fight to the death over and over again he would, but I won't let him go that far. We have kids, Rappa, behave yourself.

I can't... think of what Rappa would even consider a Punishable Offense. He's not as possessive as you'd think he'd be, he's actually very chill about the idea of an open relationship. More people for him to fight I guess.

I don't think it's something that ever crossed his mind. If anything he thinks we should punish him when he steps out of line, which I do. N-Nothing like Violent or anything, he gets the same timeout punishment as the twins when they all get too rowdy and break something or freak Tamaki out.

Though I'm sure he'd be a lot more into it if it was Taishiro making him sit in timeout... There's a good reason I'm in charge of him.

its truly so fun to write the collector. like im not joking about him being my favorite owl house character despite his maybe twenty total minutes of screentime, so its been such a JOY to expand his role in this series!!

bc like. god. actually i think i wrote a whole like. bit of flash fiction/prose poetry type thing for them a while ago. probably in my files somewhere. but just. youre an immortal eight year old. you are in these years where you need to interact with other people for your own mental stability and health. to figure out the whole Being A Person thing. and you are trapped for like, centuries. trapped away from everyone and everything and DUST, which, in universe, in literally connection personified. you're cut off from all of this.

and you are, let me say again, eight years old.

truly the collector is just. hes had everyone he ever cares about leave him--his siblings the other archivists left him behind not out of any sense of cruelty, really, but because caring about people just isnt really a thing they do. quite frankly they live so long they didnt even notice. theyre far-away stars. not far because they're mean. just because thats what stars do.

and then king's dad (who um. doesnt have a name <3 this is why the collector calls him 'the big bully' its literally bc i never gave him a name--) was an adult the collector actually trusted and looked up to (he meshed REALLY WELL into titan society until the archivists started Doing A Murder since titans are the only beings that match them in power and they have very very different ideas about dust). like ive said before the collector is owlbeastkin but before that they never had a super stable sense of identity--in another world where they stayed w/ the titans they wouldve ended up a titan.

and then king's dad just. trapped him in a tablet forever.

and like, to be fair to king's dad he was reacting out of fear and the best knowledge he had (he assumed the collector led the archivists to the titans, and like, he did, but its not like he knew he was doing that, and, you know, poor guy had seen a huge chuck of his fellow titans killed including babies and eggs of which he had an egg to consider), but it still TRAPPED THEM. and then he died and so did all the rest of the titans so nobody could free the collector even if they wanted to.

and then BELOS, who manipulated and lied to the collector for so long and was also literally his only friend after being alone forever, so like, of course the collector just blindly went along with whatever he said. he was gonna free them!! he listened to them when they talked about stardust which nobody else ever did! he had no idea what the fuck a witch was! he just liked being able to see the stardust sometimes, and belos brought him to places with a lot of stardust. to destroy it, but like--you know. it was THERE.

but all these people were just USING them, and they never really understand that until king comes around. and king's also a scared eight year old!! but like. king's also not wrong. the collector did aid belos in destroying the entire isles. like no joke belos SUCCEEDS here. like not long-term obvi this has a happy ending but at the point we're in at for the future? it doesnt matter that the draining spell failed. all the palistrom trees are dead. witch society Cannot come back from that even if they did end up beating the collector. theyre doomed.

anyways what was i saying. collector. right.

so like, then they meet firefly/grr-click-growl/wings-across-night/the owl beast (king of having so many names i love her <3) and shes like, the first person who cares for them and ISNT using them. even king is using them!! but firefly has seen Some Shit. she sees the collector as a hatchling who was kicked out of his nest and is doing her best to be some sort of stable figure for him, but she doesnt Not see the stuff he's done.

the collector took over the world bc he's scared--all he's ever known is being used and trapped so he doesnt exactly trust most people easily. firefly would Love to not be in this world anymore. shes also got a loyalty to eda and king and luzmari. and, like, cool motive, still trapping an entire society of people.

but like. shes the one who is here right now and nobody else is trying to help this kid.

but the collector just. hes just an eight year old. a very, very old eight year old. but he doesnt understand things like "you can make the wrong choices and still choose to do better later" and "im mad at what you did but that doesnt mean i dont care about you."

he just sees someone upset with him. just sees another person who used him and doesnt care and is going to leave bc everyone leaves him and in a world where EVERY SINGLE PERSON comes in pairs, hes the only one who stands alone.

Mav has him in a chokehold and Rooster grunts, trying to loosen Mav's grip but failing miserably - they've been at this for a couple of minutes now which is enough, more than enough, for both of them to be dripping with sweat, and his hands keep slipping off Mav's skin.

"Wanna tap out?" Mav asks playfully and that just fuels Rooster's resistance, makes him spit a out breathless "you wish, old man!", before once more trying to wriggle his head out of the chokehold … only to have his face pressed right into Mav's armpit.

He gasps for air and suddenly it's everywhere: the feel and taste and smell of sweat, of Mav, deep and musky and just a little dirty, but it's … not bad, oh fuck, it's anything but, going by his suddenly very interested cock. Rooster bucks his hips and moans, a pathetic, little sound that he hopes is muffled by Mav's skin but most definitely isn't, because Mav immediately lets go of him.

"You okay?" he asks, concern in his voice that turns into realisation, when he spots the tent in Rooster's shorts, and his voice goes soft, low, not at all disapproving, when he adds: "I guess you are."

You mentioned having to work at finding Soowon's voice for To All the Ghosts, and I believe you mentioned struggling with Shirayuki's voice in early fics, so my question: do you have a process for finding characters' voices?

Mostly it's something I find through drafts. Some characters come easy (Suzu, for one, because he is such a weirdo), but new characters are always a process, some more than others. Lili was much easier, because she's a character you can KNOW through her dialogue. She wears her heart on her sleeve and so just by reading the manga you have her voice.

Soowon is a much more private character. No one truly know him, not even himself, so you have to piece it together from everyone around him. How he reacts to people. All the things he doesn't say. And so I'll use my first draft to get down lines and actions, stuff I'm generally solid on what he needs to do...and then really flesh out the internal narration in the second draft. Why is he doing this? How does he feel? And since he's incapable of looking an emotion straight in the face, how do i convey that without saying a word of it? 😅

Shirayuki was a similar challenge, because she's so nice. She might get sassy, but she's not snarky. So first draft was what I wanted to get across...and second draft was walking it back to be NICER.

You know that ask game for single sentences of drafts? Here's 300 something words I wrote as a tester for a fic (you know the one) not been proofread in the slightest.

"Have you seen the thing?"

Kevin poked his head out from the breaker box. "You realize that's vaguer than I can help with right?"

"Nevermind, I'll find it." James disappeared up the stairs, "Have you seen Keith by the way?"

Kevin flipped off another breaker, "Last I heard he wanted to check out the maze." Hall light was still on, so were the dining room and lounge. Maybe the kitchen?

"Good lord he's still out there. Come look,"

Kevin joined James upstairs looking through a leaded window. Sure enough he could make out Keith in the distance, wandering around confused in the labyrinth.

"We should help him, right?" James paused, watching Keith spin round.

"Look at him, he can figure it out," Keith was attempting to jump high enough to see over the hedges and failing miserably. "Eventually."

Kevin did his best to find a comfortable position to sit. He ignored the possibility of falling off the roof to an untimely demise, or worse being stuck in agony for hours a broken pulp of a man and Then dying, instead trying not to drop the walkie talkie.

"Can you hear me ok?" James was at the maze entrance, his overalls had inexplicably gotten covered in paint throughout the morning (origin still unknown).

"If I die like this-"

"You'll be fine, it's not that high up." James lied.

"Fine, whatever. But will you please pretend to be my mysterious ex lover who may've killed me yourself at my funeral?"

The radio hissed.

"James?"

"Just tell me where to go."

"That's not a no, head straight then go to the left. I just think the intrigue would be neat, like all the guests would wonder about me having this mysterious affair- take a right, no your other right." 

"What guests? Your sister?"

"I know people!"

"Sure you do." Kevin could hear James rolling his eyes at him. Keith was at the other end of the maze, seeming to take a momentary break to lay on the ground in dejection. What a mood.

With no further response, Max wanders around the back of the flats. For a minute he thinks Dennis has somehow disappeared as well, but then Dennis pops up from the ground, having been deeply examining the base of a shrub. (Chapter 8)

And maybe he should talk to Geoff about it, but at the same time he wants to keep it close, hold their visages in a sort of retribution. To not let them go a second time. In some ways it feels like he's searching them out, desperately trying to find pieces of his old castmates in the personalities and mannerisms of his colleagues. Other times it just feels pointless. (Chapter 9)

Greg swigs down half his pop, stifles a massive burp, and frowns at the wall. (Chapter 10)

"-and presumably it will be the reason why you're sitting here, now, looking like you've never been inside a pub in your life while your eerily well-behaved pet tries to murder me with its eyes. Yes?"

Vanessa chooses to focus on the wrong part of that speech. "She's not - Patty." She nudges Patricia until the ferret breaks her death-stare on the stranger. (Chapter 11)

Favorite thing about Miss Chieko? Well where to start... For one thing she's positively gorgeous, her round face and delicate hands and beautifully long hair. Then there's of course her sense of style, her beautiful Kimonos paired with perfect obis always tied so perfectly and kept wonderfully clean. And then there's of course her craft she's so skilled with a needle and thread, even on her sewing machine she's a master and with such speed without even so much as a glance she can get so much done and then there's her passion now everyone at Amamizukan is passionate of course that's what drew us all together but Miss Chieko specifically has such an air of sophistication when talking about her passions and the care she takes of her dolls is so refreshing like a mother and her children and every single one of them love her right back for it it's such a shame we can't take them out more and then of course-
