barbara is so ‘cool older sister’ coded it’s actually insane. she’s incredibly smart and good with tech, plus she’s really pretty and cool as hell??? reader is like “hiii hello hiii ” and she INSTANTLY becomes her newest role model.

her like ‘yandereness’ would probably be similar to tim’s but instead of trying to keep reader home, she more so just watches her. like if reader wants to go to a party and it’s on a bad corner of town, barbs will give her directions to go to avoid the most trouble. probably the least likely to kill someone tbh i just can’t see her doing it.

reader and cassandra they were both raised by assassins so they probably bond over that and then how life is after leaving. it’s canon that cass can speak (which we’ve seen her do) but she uses body language instead of words. with this, i like to think that she can teach reader how to read people easier. you know, as a little bonding activity! also damian is canonically good with music (the violin specifically i believe), so reader is likely the same. so now just imagine reader playing an instrument while cass dances 🙏.

cass’s type of yandere is mostly just watching from the shadows. like reader brings a boyfriend home and cass is in the corner standing like mothman. if anyone does reader wrong TRUST cass will be kicking the hell out of them 🙏🙏.

stephanie, like duke, is the closest to the normal sibling experience one can get 😭 but tbh i see her as being more as a best friend that’s a ‘sister figure.’ plus i like stephcass so screw you that’s canon now. having improvised fashion shows at 4am, gossiping about everything and everyone (which she then tells cass but shhhh), having self care days like that’s her bff! with steph i feel like she’s not the type to actually attack anyone directly, but instead just telling cass and/or tim about whatever (or whoever) it is reader is having problems with. now if they’re patrolling together and reader gets attacked? yeah she’ll beat the other person up! (or at least get a couple hits in if reader already took care of it)

No no no ppfftt It's obviously dickjay AND damian ?? he's a baby, come on…I'm not a creep. I've also wrote it was a family dynamic - I actually use those tags like dickjaydami/dickjaybin/konjay in this case, to easily find a specific art of mine when I look for something in my tags; I mean their interaction as a whole, not a ship, you know what I mean? I KNOW people are strict about tags but I'm lazy to write their names in full sometimes… ;3;

So, just to clarify, I only ship dickjay romantically (not dickjaybin) and timkon, stephcass and wallykyle. I like friendly interactions between roy and dickjay, (older)damian and jaybin/dickjay, kon and jason also are cute too as friends etc but I don't like shipping these in any kinda way except in a family/friends dynamic.

hello..! probably a silly question, but how does one get into comics. i'm specifically interested in cass and steph but wanna get into the batfam as a whole and i have no idea how 😭 i'm like can i just start wherever? but then i do not know where to start. it is all very confusing to me. sorry if you're not the right person to answer i just really love your stephcass art (and your dinahbabs ZOO WEE MAMA 😍) and figured it wouldn't hurt to ask ^⁠_⁠^

not silly at all!! i got into comics for cass and was super overwhelmed by people saying you could start wherever so i promise youre not alone in feeling like that

i personally started off with cass's main run, Batgirl (2000), with really only having watched btas so a lot of things were a very big surprise to me (BARBARA) but it honestly does a really good job of introducing you to the most? of the batfamily (including steph). its mostly from cass's pov so youre meeting a lot of these people at the same time she is and i personally found that really comforting.

i would def recommend starting just a little before batgirl 2000 though with:

First appearance: Batman (1940) #567

Follow up: Detective Comics (1937) #734

She gets the suit: Batman Legends of the Dark Knight #120

First solo story: Batman (1940) #569

and my personal favorite: Batman: Gotham Knights #2

you could honestly just read the first two and jump into batgirl 2000 but theres a little extra context surrounding the batgirl suit and how it originally belonged to Helena Bertinelli (shes the person in the batgirl suit for the first part of cass's first appearance) that you dont really need to know to get into cass but is still important.

after seeing barbara as oracle in batgirl 2000 i got into birds of prey (i also have a little guide for that -> )

and then after into STEPH (Gwyn has a really awesome steph guide that you should def also check out) and so on

it seems scary at first but once you pick someone you want to read about and get into them, other characters will catch your attention and youll want to know more about them and thats how most people get locked into this evil evil comics trap.

Sorry that you’re going through tough times. Let me attempt to lift your mood by some TimBerKon and StephCass thought of mine!

So you know how Tim and Steph dated, right? But did you know that, apparently, there was a moment when Kon and Cass dated? It’s canon, I swear!

I don’t know how the timeline works (because it never actually works when it comes to DC comics), but from what I heard Cass started dating Kon after “friendship break up” with Cass. I like to think it was Cass’ way of dealing with the heartache she couldn’t understand since no one properly explained romantic relationships to her. And Kon wasn’t that much of an expert in it either (no matter how much of a flirt he’s portrayed to be). So Kon and Cass getting together was their way to figure out this “romance” thing. They liked each other enough… but it wasn’t quite it.

At the time (if I’m not mistaken), Tim was dating Steph. And I can just imagine Kon and Cass looking at them adoringly, thinking it’s just “friendship feels”.

But then Steph died. And then Kon died. And Tim and Cass sought each other for comfort, both thinking that the other was mourning their partner. But the truth is that Tim was mourning Kon more than he should Steph and Cass was mourning Steph than he should Kon. And maybe that’s when it almost clicked for them.

When Steph and Kon were back, Cass was so happy to see her “bestie” that she finally understood what it is she’s feeling. What she’s been feeling for the longest time. She broke up with Kon and he let her go without fight, but they remained good friends, often reminiscing on the time they used to date with humor.

I believe Cass was very supportive of Kon when he learned that Tim was dating Bernard and thought he lost his shot. And then very excited for him when he entered a polycule with them (who knows, maybe she helped her dum-dum brother realize his true feelings for his clone boy). And Kon was hyping up Cass until she finally got together with Steph.

I dunno I just love the idea of Kon and Cass being healthy exes and bonding over their journeys for self-discovery.

hello hello! so far my favorite scene is 100% the one in chapter 2 where tim calls jason to pick him up from the marina and kon goes full snarlbite at jason while tim regrets every choice he's ever made. i had that scene zerodrafted before i'd even finished the beginning of chapter 1 and had way too much fun adding to it as i went. second place might be an upcoming scene in chapter 4 where dick gets another crack at the title of Most Annoying Big Brother Ever (honorific). 😌

some headcanons for buy back the secrets-verse:

bruce's romantic life is a thorny, tangled web but he does have a steady thing with clark that lois is also aware of/sometimes involved in. it works very well for them. tim is aware of this enough to use it against bruce if need be but otherwise Does Not See It

duke does not join the crew yet in the timeline of this au but right now in his pre-batfam era i imagine he's running a semi-viral tiktok account where he posts skits making fun of various gotham rogues. (he does have a cameo in chapter 4!)

idk if this counts as a headcanon or as canon at this point but bruce is jewish in this au! this also make a brief appearance in chapter 4. and it is alluded to earlier, iirc.

of all the teen vigilantes running around steph is the one who worries bruce the most. not because she has shown any particularly evil or destructive inclinations, but because she's had the gall to 1) be robin 2) be robin as like, an internship, and 3) date one of bruce's kids twice. there is nothing bruce can do to intimidate her. she's too powerful.

re: the above: stephcass real.

after tim learned about ghost-maker he started logging all of khoa's safehouses in his not-at-all-stalkery bats-and-bat-adjacents database and sometimes shows up at them unannounced 😎 khoa finds this hugely irritating. tim is also khoa's favorite batkid. the two facts are not unrelated.

in a slight au of this au (some minor shifting timelines re: identity reveal) i like to headcanon that bbts could take place in the same universe as Lipstick on the glass

i think clark is genuinely jealous of kon's TTK (in a, like, "that ability is objectively really cool" kind of way), and he lets it show because it makes kon feel good about it. (it also, early on, made kon more determined to train his TTK so he could do cool tricks with it, which in turn helped him strengthen his control/range of abilities.)

kon is relatively popular at school in smallville but doesn't have many close friends there, because kon already imprinted hard on young justice / teen titans crew by the time he started school. he likes people at school just fine but his mind is usually elsewhere.

meanwhile tim has some civilian friends he genuinely cares about but purposefully distances himself from emotionally. everyone else at school at this point either does not think about him, dislikes him, or is morbidly fascinated by him re: his parents + getting scooped up by bruce wayne.

jason does not know how to turn off autocorrect on his phone and is too annoyed to look it up. tim messed with the settings one time and nearly got titans tower 2'd because of it

Meet Me Where You're Going is such an easy read considering it's the longest fic on this list. it deals with the batgirl mantle and the circumstances surrounding Cass giving it to Steph and also deals with you know just the drama of falling in love with the person who's most important in the whole world to you. it's plotty but not a casefic per se, mostly just using the plot as an excuse to move the emotions along

The Haunting of Wayne Manor is a historical au in that it certainly takes place before cellphones and depends on governesses being normal but I have no idea when it takes place otherwise. it's tagged as gothic horror but I feel like it's mostly atmospheric. idk how to describe this it's really good and the writing is really intricate I had a lot of fun and was on the edge of my seat the whole time

seven different kinds of light (welling up inside you) - autistic!cass needs to figure out if they're sisters before they make out, which is fair

lost in translation is sooo cute like Cass thinks Steph is afraid of her because she's never seen a crush enacted upon her before and so like nerves and butterflies are coming off all wrong lmao. Cass's bodyreading skills can't defend her against the useless lesbian pitfall of SHE LIKES YOU OH MY GOD

finally for today, sanctuary in haunted city #1 is a no-capes au where Cass has been off in Hong Kong for a while and Steph has somehow never even heard of her despite being incredibly involved with the Wayne family (still dated Tim, for example). Cass moves back to Gotham and Steph is immediately smitten. it also has a bit of the "are you my sister" angst but really only for like, six seconds. sooo cute

anyway more people should write stephcass fics. it's on my list after the bajillion of other projects I'm in the middle of but until I get my life together and write every idea I've ever had I beg of all of you to please just write something for stephcass they deserve it

perhaps the only time cass doesn't have those thoughts is when she's with steph. which is such a cliché but i happen to like clichés a lot.

Oh, yeah, definitely. I'm not that big on romance, actually, i do largely prefer platonic love kdkdjd.

For DC, the ones I can think of... Well no matter if it's canonically incestuous they're really big in the fandom so, yeah, JayDick and JayTim, for starter; DickWally (they'r really big, mostly on fanon, and the more i see it the more i hate it idjdjdj); RoyDonna, too, it's just one of these canon ships who is very cute and all but i totally prefer them in a platonic way; Same goes for any of the Fab Five ship btw, i just love them as platonic and close and so dear to each other listen i could talk about it for hours; SuperBat, i actually don't like it that much but i do like their complicated and close relationship; JonDami too, but this one is mostly bc i can't see any of them in couple, they're stuck at literal children in my head lmao; TimSteph, even if they're canon and all they don't do it for me and their relationship is way more healthy when they're simply friends; StephCass, i already talked about this one lmao so i won't talk about it again; i'm probably forgetting some of them but yeah, that's basically it.

so first of all not fbi bc we like to have some legitimacy and homeage to gotham thanks

so there absolutely is a plot to blow up someone in the miss america pageant which, for some reason is in gotham this year

steph is officially Off Duty because her and damian may have totally accidentally gone against bruce’s strict “do not go on patrol on this evening” and they did and so he’s grounded them

(((there absolutely was a screeching match between steph and bruce bcs hes not her dad and cant ground her and he is really just Tired Old Man so instead lets her look over some old computer files just to stop her from like, stealing the batmobile out of Spite)))

but the pageant

bruce decides he’s going to let cass look into it because she’s “the best suited for the job”

cass is really just happy to finally be allowed to take point on something

its not until jason points out to them that there’s no way in hell they’re ever gonna catch anyone if a bat turns up making accusations, not to mention the hysteria a bomb threat could start off

so cass thinks

and thinks

and thats how she ends up outside steph’s window at 2am one morning with her favourite waffles and steph is really 100% suspicious, totally, but also they smell good and cass is voluntarily like, sitting on her bed so she invites her in

and then laughs in her face when cass tells her about her plan to infiltrate the pageant

“cass those girls would drive you crazy, no way would you even make it to the semi’s”

so thats how steph finds herself in one of the fanciest shops she’s ever seen in a city over from gotham, with tim flaunting bruce’s credit card all over the place and buying her a make up palette that costs more than half her week’s wages and what the fuck

“oh? did i forget to mention you’d be the one in the pageant?” cass asks. steph has never hated her MORE and even considers taking this to bruce but also... it could be a chance at redemption and also making herself look good for cass so.

so she signs up. and she hates the songs and expects to hate all the girls but theyre actually really sweet, but steph totally grew up on the wrong side of gotham for this and it’s showing and despite all the faith cass has put in her she feels exposed and out of her depth and tim is STRESSING because “she has no talent”

which. ouch

but also steph is inventive and can do things other than messing up, thanks tim, so that’s why she’s carting out a table with crystal wine glasses on it and its so odd and the crowd are more shocked than impressed but it works

jason turns up about half way in and tells them, hey guys, there’s some stuff going On in the underworld and like. i think i’ve found your guy

also bruce doesn’t think we’re getting anywhere with this and the date for the bomb is getting closer

so bruce pulls cass off and tells her he needs all hands on deck to help with whatever jason tipped them off about (and jason is apologetic because he’s also extremely pissed that bruce has stuck his nose in his business again)

and steph knows this is her chance more than ever to get back into costume and break some noses but something tells her she’s right about this and if anything happened to these girls she could never forgive herself because this is what she became spoiler for in the first place

so bruce cuts her off and cass is just all over the place because she’s realised in all the craziness of this that she has a major crush on steph, but jason’s intel is usually always genuine and bruce is right in saying that they haven’t got any solid leads on the pageant bomb so she leaves

as in leaves steph too

but steph stays and continues and a gossip with the girls gives her a new lead, but no one is willing to listen so instead she calls tim and guilt trips him/calls on a favour he probably very likely owes her to come check it out because cass is currently awol and she doesnt really want to sink to begging bruce to listen to her for like the second time that month

so tim comes, flicks off a message to damian who tells dick who tells bruce who mentions it to jason who tells cass

who needs to get back to steph becase they were a team and also if anything happens to her she at least wants to tell her she likes her first

in the space of this the final pageant has started, steph’s glasses are ruined and “remember that other favour you totally owe me” “no” “ill tell you where damian is hiding your orthopaedic pillow” “fine. what”

steph totally kicks tim’s butt on stage, as cass and jason arrive because jason found out from one of his lower level drug busts that one of the guys on the pageant organisational team has some shady ties with the riddler who apparently broke out of arkham but no one thought to tell batman because he seemed busy. or something.

the problem is they still dont have a bomb location, steph is in the top 5 and currently trying to do her hair and get changed and -holy fuck the crown is missing tim its the crown you need to tell cass its the crown-

it is the crown. cass materialises her batgirl suit from somewhere and then red hood arrives in time to punch some bad guys and steph also gets to throw someone other than tim over her shoulder so she calls it a win

outside they get hounded by the press. everyone seems more interested that miss gotham is friendly enough with tim drake rather than the fact that she just saved the city??? hello???

cass is there later. the costume is gone and jason is giving tim shit that he told him steph was a better fighter than he gave her credit for.

steph is kinda looking at cass with this weird look on her face and cass is looking at steph with a weird look on her face, and steph starts teasing her like she did the other night in the pool, and then cass is cupping her face and just planting a kiss on her.

steph’s pretty sure she’s like, died or something

especially when bruce steps out of the car that’s pulled up behind them, ‘hm hmm’ing and motioning for the two of them and tim to get in the car so they can go home

jason’s disappeared somewhere himself, but steph reckons she’ll hear from him soon when she asks him to send the video to her too

steph gets herself grounded just short of one month later when, because of reasons she cant disclose (she was kissing cass on a rooftop instead of listening) she messes up bruce’s plan of action

she doesnt mind though; cass keeps her company on those nights anyways

Hello! I’m curious, who do you ship each of the Batfamily with?

I don’t really get into “shipping” the way a lot of people in online fandom do (not saying there’s anything wrong with shipping, it’s just not something I personally care about a whole lot) but there are definitely some ships I like better than others lol

don’t really ship bruce with anyone because that boy needs a lot of therapy before he’ll be able to maintain a romantic relationship tbfh 

dick has the best love interests??? I love him with koriand’r, I love him with barbara, they are both very good

barbara, like I said, is very cute with dick, but I’m also a fan of her and dinah lance even though I know it will never happen in canon. I’ll tell you what I’m NOT a fan of though – any media that tries to force a romantic relationship between babs and bruce. wrong and bad.

jason todd and roy harper are soul mates and that’s all I have to say about that

tim is like dick, I’m pretty cool with all of the popular ships involving him. timsteph? cute. timkon? adorable. jaytim? can be cute or gross depending on which timeline you’re going off of, how old each of them is, how they’re each characterized, etc. etc. 

and stephcass will be the death of me. they’re so cute. I love them.
