Ow..

You woke up in pain and the sunlight hitting your eyes.

Everything hurt.

Like a lot.

Geez.. You thought with a groan. Why is everything so bright? What is this vividness? Disney?

Sitting up, you notice that you're still in the woods and it's around noon or at least in the afternoon. Rubbing the back of your head, you try to remember what happened.

I was in the woods..with spaghetti and..my best friend was going to take my picture. Ow-!

You hiss and you pull your hand away from your head, finding blood once getting a look at it.

"Oof ok, time to go get help.", you said to yourself and stood up.

Like any gamer out there, you checked your surroundings before checking your inventory. So far you were deep in the woods that looked oddly..cartoonish? And you had a backpack nearby with a water bottle, phone, and wallet inside.

Where's my flashlight? Wait, I had a flashlight? Also, where's by bestie?

Every time you thought about it your head would start hurting.

"Never mind that, I have to get moving before it gets dark out.", you sighed and began walking.

In all honesty, you did not know where you were going. Just picked a direction and decided that was good enough. Maybe you'll find civilization or maybe you're walking deeper into the woods. Who knows!

My brain is a little optimistic right now. You thought. Or maybe it's due to lack of sleep.. I was driving the whole time.

Then you started getting a little clumsy.

Tripping, swaying, falling flat on your face a few times, and overall just feeling drained. Also, you kept hearing maracas? Was that some kind of bird or something?

Ah, wait. Wasn't that the Hide Behind? You remembered about reading it in Journal 3 and that scene when Mabel says maraca owl. Maybe it is a maraca owl or maybe it's the tall thing that follows people.

Currently, you were laying on the ground because you fell..haha. AGAIN.

Thank Glob you landed on grass this time.

Ok. Do I or do I not take a nap? Probably not the best choice because I might have a concussion. Hm..the choices.

Deciding on one last try, you push yourself off the ground, take a quick sip of water, and continue on your journey! Nothing was gonna stop you now-!

Then you ran into something, fell back and hit your head on the ground.

It was silly because it was kinda like a light switch.

You were awake and then you passed out,

"Great job Dipper! You killed someone!", a feminine voice said.

"They aren't dead! They just hit their head and passed oUt after they fell!", another voice says with a slight voice crack.

"Haha ha!", the girl laughs. "Your voice cracked."

Slowly waking up, you feel a type of rocking motion, like you're in a car or something.

A car!?

You sit up quickly. Too quickly and almost fall out of the golf cart but someone manages to pull you back to the seat.

"Whoa! Careful, you do not want to fall out of this thing when going almost full speed.", the female voice says next to you.

Looking over, you find a brown haired girl wearing a keyboard sweater.

"Hi! I'm Mabel! I have a pet pig named Waddles!!", she introduces herself loudly.

You feel your head hurt at her polite screeching.

"Ow. Hold on, give me a sec.", you say and rub your forehead.

"Uh.. Mabel? It's not a good idea to be loud around someone who just woke up after hitting their head.", the guy says, who you are assuming is driving the golf cart.

"Oops.", the girl, Mabel, smiles at you sheepishly. "My bad."

You wave her off.

"It's fine, I've dealt with worse.", you reassure.

"Let me start again.", she says and extends a hand for you to shake. "I'm Mabel and the one driving the golf cart is my twin brother, Dipper."

"STOP THE CART!"

The golf cart screeches to a stop and you hobbled your way out, beginning to pace back and forth.

"Uh..you ok there?", Mabel asks.

"O..k, so you hit your head harder than we thought.", Dipper speaks up. "Let's get you patched up and see what we can do from there, ok?"

Pros: Going with two of your favorite characters will lead to adventures. Cons: They might try to read your mind to see if you're a threat and might threaten you with some random weapons..

"I guess I can go with you guys until I can go to the hospital or something.", you say and finally stop imprinting foot prints into the dirt.

"Cool!", Mabel cheers. "Let's go! I've got Mabel juice in the fridge and I wanna see if the new dinosaurs inside taste different!"

"That's not how that works.", her brother mumbles and puts the golf cart in drive.

Hopping back on, you notice your backpack was opened.

"Uh? Who raccooned into my pack?", you asked.

"Racooned?", the Pines driving asks.

"Dug through your stuff? That was Dip.", Mabel says, completely understanding what you meant.

"Oh, sorry.", Dipper pipes up. "That was to see your ID, nothing else. I mean, wouldn't you try to identify someone after they passed out randomly?"

He is kinda right.

"Understandable racooning.", you say and start to brain storm ideas for a plan on how to stay under the radar.

Ok, so I might have/most likely freed Bill and now I have to do something about it before he's running wild around Gravity Falls again...fun.

You sigh and just decide to sit back and enjoy the ride for now.

So I did something out of character. Okay, a couple things.

I’d just finished reading to Mom** and saw that it was 15 minutes until the new Doctor Who would go out in real time on Disney Plus.

And my fangirl instinct kicked in. For only the third time since I first saw Doctor Who in (I think) 1981 I had a chance to watch an episode as it premiered. ***

Oh I was weak! LOL

I’ve sprung for Disney+. Yes, broke me paying for a streaming service.

The cheapest version. Of course, this means for the first time ever I’d be watching Doctor Who with commercials.

I never sit around the house during the day. This is especially with so few hours of daylight this time of year. I never watch anything until after dark. It feels almost sinful to do anything so “lazy”.

Yet there I was, after a frantic flurry of activity and router warfare, at 1:30pm watching Doctor Who!

Alright, actually I was standing in the kitchen. Does standing mitigate the sense of being lazy??

I went into it skeptical, what with my dislike of bringing back a previous show runner AND Doctor in a show I prefer to move forward****. Sure, It was going do be inspired by a comic story I read, and adored, as a kid.***** And there would be Donna, my favorite new series companion. But after a couple of years of repeated disappointment that had turned into the serious worry that I was falling out of love with the show…well, I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

I LOVED it.

I won’t spoil anything. I also won’t say I didn’t have any quibbles. But it was like a breath of fresh air after being locked in a trunk for a few years****** (what? Hasn’t everyone been locked in a trunk on occasion?)

Basically, it felt like Doctor Who again. And you know what? I still love the show!!

I guess that’s why I loved the episode. It’s less anything exceptional about the episode (which, frankly, I may later call “good”), more it reminded me what it feels like to love Doctor Who.

So WOO-HOO! ( er…WOO-WHO?) I didn’t waste my money or time after all!

**Over the phone. I bought my first book in ages, simply because it was Terry Pratchett Mom had never read, and then read it to her over the phone. It would have been criminal to let her having read everything be broken by a publication of “lost stories”. Turns out she enjoyed it so much she wants me to keep reading to her. I may be spending a couple hours a day reading all those Terry Pratchett books I haven’t read myself.

*** The other two were the 20th anniversary special in 1983, that for some reason we in the US got early, and the special that aired at Easter in, geez, was 2009, when my parents and I were in London.

****Especially since I dislike Rose bloody Tyler so much that I am kinda scared they will bring that arch enemy of my fandom back. Again.

*****Reprinted oodles of times, so I am hardly the only one to find it memorable, or discover it after it’s original publication.

******I don’t want you to think I just hated the previous Doctor. I didn’t. There was some good stuff in that era, but damn, that overall writing was painful. I feel a bit about her time like I did Colin Baker’s era when I was a kid, a good Doctor saddled with too many bad stories. Both were frustrating.

I’m sure I’m not the only person who imagines their favorite characters comforting then when they’re not feeling well 💕 I tried to keep the reason for feeling unwell vague for optimal self insert value. Health issues come in all shapes and sizes and they’re all shitty to deal with. I hope you guys can get some comfort out of this, please let me know if you did.

Warnings: mentions of food/eating (nothing ED related, just a heads-up), non-graphic descriptions of health issues/pain, unspecified medicine

Vi:

Sadly, Vi knows all to well how it feels to not be well.

When she lived in the Undercity, food wasn’t always guaranteed and healthcare standards weren’t exactly high.

Her time in Stillwater wasn’t much better, she often caught colds and felt weak from a lack of good, healthy food.

Being fit and working on being healthy is a priority for her. She tries to help you with this as well.

If you’re having a good day, she’ll encourage you to exercise with her at a pace that’s comfortable for you. She’ll shower you in compliments any time you work up a sweat.

And regardless of if you’re having a good or a bad day, she’ll make sure you have plenty of healthy food. Not just plain salads or celery though, she says it has to taste good as well or else it’s just a waste of a meal, lol.

On days when you’re feeling especially bad, she’ll get you your favorite treats. But she’ll also make sure you get all the nutrients you need. Eat your veggies or she’ll hide the dessert from you.

Vi is always very understanding if you’re too unwell to go outside, to school or to work. She’ll happily call you in sick, just to make sure you’re taken seriously and get plenty of time to rest up and heal.

Even if she’s busy, she tries to free up some extra time to spend with you. That time is spent either giving you a massage, taking a bath with you or simply just spending some time together on the couch or in bed.

She just wants to know that you’re well taken care of and have everything you need to feel better.

Maybe just one extra snack if you’re hungry.

Seriously won’t stop offering you food because she knows how important good food is.“

You’re still not hungry? I mean- ok, I know you just had some fruit an hour ago, but you’re sure I can’t get you some more soup? Alright, geez, I’ll stop asking.. right after I get you that soup..!”

Caitlyn:

Caitlyn is overall a pretty healthy person. She has always had plenty of healthy food and her parents regularly make her visit the doctor, too often in her opinion.

But I imagine her as the kind of person who gets migraines. So she knows what it’s like to be in pain, the kind of pain that lingers and completely ruins your day.

Regardless of the kind of health issues you experience, she wants nothing but the best kind of care for you.

She’ll send you to the best doctors and specialists that Piltover has to offer. You’ll never see a bill for any of it when you’re together. It’s all taken care of by her.

Sometimes those visits help, but sometimes feeling unwell means you have to wait for treatment. Or doctors simply can’t help and you have to face your issues by yourself.

Caitlyn would never let you face them alone though. She’s always by your side whenever things get though.

She’s very level-headed when it comes to any basic treatment. Reminding you to take any medication you need, assisting with any at-home exercises, making sure you’re eating well and drinking enough, helping you get plenty of sleep.

But she’s also very good at making sure you’re feeling comfortable and loved. Expect plenty of cuddles, soft kisses and light loving touches throughout the day.

If you’re having an especially bad day or you’re in a lot of pain, she’ll hold you in any way that’s comfortable for you. Sometimes that’s a tight hug, sometimes it’s just holding your hand.

She’ll remind you that the worst of it will eventually be over and you’ll feel better again.

“Shh, you’re alright sweetheart. Just breathe. You know all of this will pass, right? You’ll feel so much better once this is over. All things pass with time. I’m here for you, ok?”

Sevika:

Sevika isn’t very nurturing by nature. Not her fault, really, she’s just not the kind of person to sit around holding your hand all day feeding you soup.

She is, much better at prevention. Protective by nature, she prefers to make sure you’re well taken care of in the first place so there is as little reason as possible for you to be feeling unwell.

She can pull a few strings and get you to the best doctors in the Undercity, which helps a lot when you’re in need of immediate care.

Being with her also means having a personal bodyguard at all times. Noone can harm you when you’re with her.

But sometimes, you’re just not well and the doctors can’t always help. Bad days happen, but you and Sevika face those bad days together.

She’s the kind of person who can’t handle seeing the people she loves suffer. If you’re in a lot of pain or otherwise going through it, she’ll make sure you have everything you need to feel as comfortable as possible. Medicine, soft blankets, pillows, water. 

But once that’s taken care of, she’ll often excuse herself to go do something outside your home or in another room.

At first you started to feel insecure, thinking she didn’t care enough about you to stay and comfort you.

But one day when you tearfully asked her to please stay, she tried to explain it to you.

Seeing you in so much pain, watching you feeling so horrible, it hurts her too much. She just can’t stand to see you like that for too long because she loves you too much.

She’ll try to be better. She’ll sit with you and hold your hand, rub your back or gently hold you. She won’t say much, she just can’t find the right words.

“Hey, you’re gonna be fine, yeah? I’m just gonna step outside for a minute. If you need anything else, just call for me, ok? I’ll be there if you need me.”

Jinx:

Like Vi, she grew up in the Undercity not always having enough to eat or having enough money to visit a doctor. But that changed when Silco took her in.

At the earliest sign of any illness, Silco will have her taking medicine and doctors will be making home visits.

But these days she’s not unwell that often anymore. She’s all to happy about not having to take all the gross medicine. Blech.

She still knows where to find the right doctors and medicine though. So if you’re ever in need of care, all you need to do is tell her and you’ll have everything you need within the same day.

Jinx is also surprisingly good at helping with any at-home treatments. She has acquired the necessary stills from helping Silco take care of his eye. She knows when to get serious and help you, but also when to crack a joke and help ease tension.

Finding a balance between being serious and being fun is her specialty. She won’t laugh or crack jokes when you’re mentally not in the right place for it. But when you need her to joke the pain away, to make you laugh until you forget your issues for a moment, she’s there.

She’ll give you plenty of hugs and kisses. The best medicine, in her opinion.

Will let you rant about what you’re feeling for as long as you need. Sometimes that’s more helpful than the traditional treatment.

She’ll always make sure to let you know that she loves you and that’s she’s here if you need her.

Repeats that a lot just to make sure you know she really means it.

Collar X Malice: Unlimited Part 1 - Enomoto Mineo Route

Okay, so I thought Collar X Malice Unlimited was a fandisc sequel but it seems more like an alternate world/possibility or kinda both I guess lol. Not sure if I really care for the new character called Tachibana, but anyway I'm doing Enomoto's route first and I'm so happy already~ I love how quickly and easily he deflected every attempt of Tachibana's to like touch or do anything to Ichika, like geez this guy lol. Anyway Mineo after story!! So I guess it is a sequel hahaha, I guess they just kinda changed a bit of things to fit some other stuff? Anyway, Mineo without his eyepatch is something I'll need to get used to hahaha. Lmaooo when he said that his ikemen powers will go up now after unlocking the seal on his right eye😂😂😂 Aww I love how Ichika told him that him with and without the eyepatch both had their own appeals, and then I died when he called her a heart thief for saying something sweet like that🤣🤣

HAHAHA when Mineo tried to convince Ichika that he needs to live near her just in case she needs help with anything, and his example was if Kazuki wasn't home and she needed to open a jar of jam😂😂😂😂 Mineo is so hilarious, he'll always be the death of me🥲🥲 Okay, Super Mineoman is the hero I never knew I needed, he's so adorable🤣🤣 I loveee how Soma Saito voices Mineo, like omggg LOL when he said her love is priceless and said priceless in English😂

I find it so cute and sweet how at home Mineo is with everyone in his team. Lmaoo when they ate his lunchbox because he kept bragging about how Ichika lovingly made it all for him🤣 Awww I love how Ichika fed him! Lmao when he kept talking about indirect kisses and she had to tell him to shut up and just eat the hamburger steak🤣 I loveee how Kazuki asks about how Ichika is doing now, especially considering the new "Adonis" crime. What I love the most though is that Kazuki and Mineo are friendly enough to cook together for the exhausted Ichika! Honestly, if I had to take all those phone calls at SCRPO, I think I would either want to die or kill someone loll. Mineo remembering how Ichika cooking him food when he was down making him cheer up, and then now doing the same for her was so cute. Seeing him so lovingly prepare the food was just so sweet~ And omggg, I love how caring Mineo is towards Kazuki as well. It was one of the things that made me love Mineo more than all the other guys, since I feel like they put in a lot of effort to show how much Mineo cares about Kazuki as well, and how much he embraces their family. I love how honest Kazuki was about thanking him for supporting him when he found out about Akito. Anyway, Mineo and Kazuki made a full course meal in the morning?! Danggg, I'm impressed too, they even made pudding. I was so happy when Mineo flicked Ichika's forehead and told her to not bottle up her feelings inside all the time and to tell him like she is now. She always doesn't want to burden others and that's definitely a bad habit! Okay, I was still laughing at how Mineo was saying he should turn himself in for making her forehead red from the flick, and then he kissed her forehead to make the pain go away!! I nearly died, that was so cute. Lmao at Mineo's birthday being called eggplant day because it's Tokugawa Ieyasu's death anniversary and he apparently loved eggplants lol. Ichika brainstorming ideas for Mineo's present was so funny🤣 it would be so funny if she actually gifted him a funky eyepatch though😂

Anyway, it was pretty obvious that this Someya pretended to be attacked by Adonis did it to herself and "blamed Adonis" just so her classmates could finally forgive her for her “crimes” and she could live a normal school life again, but yeah honestly, that was really naive of her, and quite ridiculous but I can sympathise to an extent since bullying is always something really terrible to experience and deal with. However, I still found her little story boring tbh lol. Okay, I usually don't care that much about kiss CGs but dang, the sudden kiss CG after their zoo date was soo hot, I loved it. Oh and lmaooo when Isshiki teased Mineo saying he didn't know who he was without his eyepatch😂😂 it's so true though hahaha. OMG, when Kazuki said Enomoto is the only guy he would call big brother, I nearly died, that's so sweet and cute of Kazuki to tell him that!!! LOL when Mineo started speaking English asking him to repeat it once more, please😂😂 Mineo is such a lovable idiot, it was so cute how Kazuki and Ichika were trying to ask him what present would he like and he kept saying them just being there for him was enough🤣 I can understand his sentiments though hahahah, honestly I feel like I would be as silly as Mineo and not notice these things🤣 On the other hand, it was kinda saddening to hear that Hana's arrest made Isshiki doubt his music and whether it was his music that caused people to misinterpret his songs etc, I'm just glad he was able to overcome that and believe and hope that his songs can one day properly reach Hana though.

Awww, Ichika finally stayed over at Mineo's place but he ended up having to go to work😭 It was so cute how he was practically trying to propose to her with the Miso soup line hahahah. Omgg, the flashback to Mineo telling Mochida and Satake his and Ichika's love story to properly report to his superiors that they're dating was hilarious😂😂 So awkward for Ichika lmaoo, definitely a funny and embarrassing but good memory though loll. Mineo being so earnest about these things really makes you hope that there are people as honest and endearing as him in this world. Considering how undecided Ichika was towards Mineo's birthday present, it's amazing how thoughtfully she prepared that roll cake birthday cake with his favourite pudding as the filling! It sounds so good😭 Anyway, for a moment I really thought they would just hold hands to sleep but omgg, their first time was so cute, and I love how embarrassed they were towards each other in the morning. They're so innocent it's adorable. Lollll I can totally understand Ichika running away in embarrassment and getting mad at Mineo for blurting stuff out to make Sakuragawa realise what they did last night lmao. I'm surprised they survived not talking to each other for so long, like even if they're busy, they could at least communicate through messages! Anyway, I loved how the ending ended with Mineo asking Ichika to be his partner for life in public this time haha, the partner thing was one of my favourite scenes so seeing him do it again was sweet. It made me so happy and giddy for them hahaha. It's also nice how they met each other's families, it's kinda sad that Ichika's parents still don't seem to care for her apparently, but I'm glad Mineo's family is as wholesome as he is and as accommodating and bright. No one could be sad with their family around hahaha. I kinda like how they handled Ogata in the normal ending, it's nice to know that Mineo's sincerity really got through to him.

Overall, I really enjoyed Mineo's route~ It was honestly pretty short but that's okay because Mineo still makes me laugh so much, he's so funny that it brightens up my mood every time I watch him and his antics lol. I also really enjoyed seeing Ichika and Mineo be this silly happy couple that is really sweet too. But I think the biggest highlight for me is seeing how much of an effect Mineo had on Kazuki and just Kazuki and Ichika's relationship in general. I always loved how Mineo helped Ichika communicate with Kazuki better, so I just love how Kazuki treats Mineo like family now, and it doesn't feel awkward at all with how they all are. Seeing Kazuki appreciate Mineo for the guy he is made me really happy for them haha. Definitely an enjoyable after story and Mineo definitely has the same happy vibe and sincerity as his original route, and the ending was so cute~

okay in addition to all the shitposts i made about the album as i listened for the first time, i have so much i wanna say about each track so here we go, even if no one reads this i don’t mind because i’m just posting it for myself! this is 15% semi-professional-sounding album review talk and the other 85% is me freaking out lol

hot sauce: someone said this is zimzalabim’s brother and i can’t stop thinking about it, but unlike that song it honestly didn’t take multiple listens for me to like the song itself. the only thing that was the slightest bit off-putting about it was the higher pitch of the chanting (which i still don’t know if i’m imagining or not) but i don’t mind it as much as i used to. the beat is so interesting and funky and the latin-ish(?) sound of some parts suits them unexpectedly well :,) all the members’ voices are so distinct and i think they all got a chance to shine, like even without looking at the line distribution it just seems pretty even to me when i listen. okay now onto the mv i think it’s super cool and when i saw it for the first time it felt like there was a lot going on and it was a little overwhelming but i think that’s just because it was 5 in the morning and my senses were overwhelmed lol (like the lyrics say o_o (i think??)) also JISUNG’S DANCE BREAK I AM ON THE FLOOR. he sounded so good sjdfbds. renjun’s adlibs (in the final chorus especially) are really something else and his lil duet part with jisung in prechorus 2 is amazing showstopping never been done before etc etc. haechan’s high note and jeno’s and mark’s (side note i can’t believe we really have 7dream again :,)) and jaemin’s raps and chenle’s voice throughout the entire thing are just,,, perfection omg. overall i love this song so much and think it was a great title track for them!!

diggity: IT GOES SO HARD IT’S CRAZY. first of all here are some timestamps that make me lose my mind: 0:30 i swear the adlib sounds like mark but the video shows that it’s renjun and he sounds😳whew. and 2:48.....jisung.........i can’t do this............for maximum pain watch a clip of him talking from 2016/2017 and then listen to this part but warning you may cry. HE SOUNDS SO SKDFBL WHEN DID HIS VOICE GET SO DEEP🥲like i knew it was but this is just. another level lmao but anyways, the bridge in this song as a whole sounds amazing!!! i’m very much in love with really small moments like the little “na na na”s in mark’s rap and the way they sound, sorta minor in tone. also love how the beats build up to the chorus each time and i just wanna bop my head to it! it seems like i hear new little harmonies and adlibs every time i listen and it’s such a nice mix of vocals and strong raps :)

dive into you: the VIBES of this song??? i liked it from the teaser but as i listen more and more it gets even better it seems. like imagine a summer roadtrip to the coast because that’s what this sounds like.  mark and jisung really started things off with one of the catchiest raps i’ve ever heard and everything about it is so perfect😩jaemin and jeno singing >>>> and chenle chose violence with his high note and hearing all the harmonies from every single one of them makes me so happy :> they’re so beautiful like aaaaa. also i just love the minor-sounding notes (that’s a favorite thing of mine can you tell) in the chorus with the “you-ooh” parts. VOCALIST JENO AT 2:36 IS THE PRETTIEST THING I’VE EVER HEARD DO YOU HEAR HIS HARMONY. can’t forget vocalist jisung either, any time he sings i’m just🥰which has happened a lot this cb which is GREAT :DD and then on top of all that, the track video is adorable and they look so happy!! driver haechan doesn’t hurt either lmao AND THE PERFORMANCES OF IT ARE SO CUTE TOO LIKE HHHH

my youth: something about this song sounds so nostalgic and it’s going on my driving playlist because it just gives me such a carefree feeling, like being on the highway or driving through a city at sunset. it’s really chill and it’s one of the softer songs on this album so it balances out the harder-hitting tracks :) jaemin’s rap is so nice, reminds me of how much i love his voice :( i heard a clip of them singing this song live and it doesn’t sound the slightest bit different, it really shows all their singing talents🥺

rocket: omg definitely another favorite of mine on the album, it’s so upbeat and reminds me of dream run!!! also it’s moonshine produced so you know it’s going to be a total bop. for some reason it feels like something that would play on a rollercoaster if they had music, the scales and the synth make it sound really fun and it’s extremely enjoyable to listen to, makes me wanna dance around :) jaemin’s rap with the little star wars line is cute hehe. and chenle’s “level up” part, he sounds SO GOOD! from the bridge towards the end, that’s my favorite part, it’s such an energetic beat and, like, bouncy? i guess? that’s not the best word but i really really really love this track☺️☺️☺️

countdown (3,2,1) : besides the fact that mark decided to k word me with that “explOsive” line at the opening i love this one too! it sounds futuristic almost. i never knew how much i needed to hear jisung say “control freak” before this and his singing voice at 1:15 and 3:11 and 3:24 is just wOw—plus his RAP I’M NOT GONNA RECOVER FOR A WHILE😔🤭......also love the transitions from jaemin into mark and then jeno for that part in the bridge and the buildup it has to the final chorus. i think haechan’s and renjun’s voices sound so good on this track like at that softer part? aND HOLY HECK IS HYUCK THE ONE DOING THOSE ADLIBS TOWARDS THE END BECAUSE IF SO DAMN. yes boys you are very dangerous

irreplaceable: except for mark’s one english line in the bridge (you know the one don’t make me type it) (but it doesn’t make me cringe quite as much anymore) i also adore this song☺️if this track had a video, i’d picture it looking something like the cafe 7dream content. it sounds really acoustic and warm and like they could just be casually singing it together in a cozy cafe or studio! also, i realized that it reminds me of another dream song when i hear it and i figured out that it’s bye my first hehe. HAECHAN’S HIGH NOTE IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE BEST PART, MARRY ME SIR.

be there for you: literally the renhyuckle ballad we’ve always wanted!!! i don’t even have that much to say because it’s just so beautiful, all three of their voices blend so well together and it’s such a comforting track. nct’s slower and softer songs like this are very distinct and have a gentle kind of power. listening to it feels like a hug and the harmonies and high notes and the extent of their vocal ranges are just so, so amazing.

rainbow: for all the times i’ve cried to it, i still love it :,) those first lyrics from chenle make me want to bawl my eyes out simply because his tone there is so nostalgic and pretty and sad-sounding, and reading the lyrics makes me even more emotional (or maybe i’m just overly sensitive oops). the softer raps and angelic vocals and every little harmony and adlib are EVERYTHING, this is another song that just suits the unit so well. regardless of their positions this track proves that every single member is beyond capable of being a vocalist. i don’t know why it seems like such a sad and nostalgic song to me, but it’s also really hopeful at the same time. it’s like this dreamscape of emotions (no pun intended), and the video is so otherworldly and enchanted it seems almost magical. the colors and the playground set? their expressions and interactions with one another? i swear, their friendship and bond is unlike any i’ve ever seen. this track also makes me think of how proud i am of them, and i wanna give them all the biggest hug in the world🥺

FLUFF, ANGST OR SMUT: i love fluff and angst a whole lot, i’ll be real. the complexities of the softer emotions are fun to write, and what comes before and after the storm of a painful event can also be so interesting to dive into! smut, for me, is like rain. if i had it all the time, it wouldn’t be as thrilling to exit my home/comfort zone and experience! i very rarely write it, but i’m not opposed to it. however, i’m quite picky about who i’d write it with. (tl;dr all angst all the time, forever a fluff writer, and rarely a smut stan)

Hello 2021

January 2, 2021

I should’ve put these thoughts into words on the first day of the year but then again, I felt so lazy given this bed weather we are currently having. By far, I think I experienced the coldest temperature here in my hometown (21 degrees baby) and I’m sure not liking it as I prefer warm days.

I actually do not know how to start. I feel it’s necessary to check on how I am doing lately. Write the things I experienced last year and reflect on the lessons it taught me.

I could probably kick things off by remembering how 2020 started for me. I have a bad memory but I’ll try my best to recall them.

January

Broke up with J (yes this is probably one of the major and heartbreaking events happened to me). To sum it up, I realized that the relationship does not have growth anymore, and I am slowly drifting to follow my own path, which is to focus on the plans I want. I haven’t thought deeply the lessons I learned in my past relationship yet but one thing is for sure, I changed and I want to explore more of what I can do or what I’m missing out in life. Which brings me to attend seminars on how to work/study abroad. I attended a couple (e.g Fortrust Makati) and I also realized how costly it will be and I’m probably not yet ready esp. on the financial aspect.

February – March

Highlight on these months was I got back to dating apps again. I know it was a complete dick move. I haven’t moved on yet and here I am in the pool again. I met 2 guys from this app, Coffee Meets Bagel (which btw I uninstalled few months after). The first guy was the introvert but funny type and also VERY sexual. I got along with it, tried to do the deed but failed cause the guy hasn’t moved on from the ex yet. (Sucks right). And so I met this second guy and he is decent but we really had completely different personality. I believe this guy is also rich (he came from a Chinese family and I went to his house and saw the maid and his stuff). Can you also believe he already introduced me to his mom (no dad cause broken family), uncle and grandma. Pressured si ate gurl syempre cause it was really too early to do that step since we’re just dating but March was the most difficult month because…

START OF LOCKDOWN. PH was in state of panic after the government announced a nationwide lockdown due to increased COVID-19 transmission. I immediately went on a bus to the province fearing to get stuck in Manila.

April

Nah this was just a typical month. Summer vibes all over but since we cannot go to the beach we just setup an inflatable pool in the house to get soaked. I finally posted a pic wearing a swimsuit again. My stagnant IG feed came to life lmao

May

Oh boy. This month sucks so much. I got typhoid fever. Which I thought was COVID already cause my fever just won’t stop. My mom didn’t want me to get admitted in the hospital in the fear of being infected so I was hooked in the IV here in the house. I felt I was dying. I was in huge pain both physically and mentally. Which forced me to end any communication means with the second guy. He was not there when I was sick. I didn’t feel his concern even if we’re miles apart and I felt I was begging for his attention. It just won’t work. He blocked me in his socials (which is a first for me, usually I am the one who blocks lol) but given the current state I have now, I learned to accept it and chose to move forward.

June

Explored options on work/study program abroad. We got a new car (Xpander) which my father was able to purchase after borrowing money from us. That money could’ve been used for my Japan trip on December (plot twist it was cancelled due to fucking corona) but it’s okay I guess I’ll save another again.

I also got my student permit (yes I learned how to drive months after hehe)

July

THIS WAS MY BIGGEST DOWNFALL FOR THIS YEAR. There were some modifications in the quarantine and so my employer required and FORCED us to report on site in Makati despite of high number of positive cases. All I can say is SCREW THEM and I hope karma will do its thing on their business. The management.. the bosses.. they are all inconsiderate fucks for not allowing me to work at home instead. The situation forced me to resign but they chose to terminate me instead. The unemployment took its toll on my mental health, it caused me great depression and anxiety which forced me to look for distractions.. anything that will ease my mind.

Oh and btw, I bought my first laptop from hard earned money. Oh boy, it was satisfying to give myself the things my parents couldn’t afford that time I was still in school. It’s a gaming laptop and the one I’m using to type now. I absolutely love it and I used it to find online jobs later on..

I read Looking for Alaska by John Green again after watching the TV series on Hulu. Geez, this has to be my favorite book so far. The seeking of great perhaps.. which was very timely on my mood while having nothing else to do.

Lastly, TAYLOR SWIFT RELEASED A NEW ALBUM CALLED FOLKLORE. In the middle pandemic? Awesome right and this album kept me sane during this crazy and miserable month. Oh and on December, she released folklore’s sister album.. Evermore. Miss Swift saved me again with her music. This will definitely be one of the albums I will play when I’m old and gray knitting sweaters and wearing cardigan.

August

I started and finished my driving lesson in manual. JFC, I realized driving gives me a huge anxiety. One thing is for sure, I will prefer to drive automatic. Not driving that shit again.

I was still hooked with Looking for Alaska. Also purchased Subtle Art of not Giving a F*ck on the time I bought LFA.

On the other hand, I was also actively looking for new jobs this time.

September

ON SEPT. 30 I GOT HIRED! I was super happy to start on a new job. It gave me hope once again to continue on this journey called life. After almost 3 months, we are def back to business!

I also got the chance to get this Thyroid issue checked. Unfortunately, there was no major stuff going on with my thyroid. Basically, I’m perfectly healthy. What sucks is that the doctor invalidated my previous condition and said I only have ~anxiety which is the cause of my symptoms (excessive sweating and palpitations). I will seek professional help on this anxiety stuff anytime in the future.

Lastly, I played Grand Chase again and met someone in the game. Well technically we haven’t met yet but since then, I got used to talking with this guy and he is part of my daily routine now. I won’t spoil much details but as soon as this is all over, I can’t wait to meet this person :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MEEE! It was a typical birthday. I don’t have much realizations. If I had one, I need to think thoroughly again lol.

Busy with training on the new job and this has been the most challenging training I ever had since I started working.

NOVEMBER

WORK WORK WORK. Super stressed and my anxiety was on the roof. I thought of giving up already but then again it was too early to quit. I haven’t seen my full potential on this job yet and so I chose to keep on fighting.

I also finally got braces. Let’s get these smiles fixed.

December

WORK WORK WORK AGAIN. My work caused me a huge anxiety cause I was given high priority cases -.-But overall, I can say the holidays went great. I finally got to spend time with the family outside. Don’t worry cause we still practiced precautions and I guess it wouldn’t hurt to go out once in a while to have some fresh air. We went to the beach and pretty much that’s the highlight of this month.

Things are getting serious with this guy I’m talking about.. Seriously, he makes me happy every single day.

I also won in Christmas raffle. Oppo phone. (I have the odds in my favor when it comes to raffles lol)

Feels weird to celebrate this holiday too thinking a lot of hardships were experienced in the last few months of quarantine. I was thinking about all the lives lost by covid and hoping they are in the peaceful place now..

JANUARY (NOW)

After everything that happened, oddly the start of the year gives me a sense of hope. Sure I am still carrying the trauma 2020 gave me but I am slowly leaving all of them behind. I want a fresh start and I want to let go of the things that gave me pain. I don’t have solid resolutions just like in my teenage years. Guess I’m too old for that. Not saying it’s okay to not have plans for the future and just go with the flow but I promise to not be too hard on myself and to not pressure myself on the goals I haven’t achieved yet. It’s really a struggle to plan things ahead given the situation but as always, I will do my best. I will stop comparing my progress to somebody else’s cause everyone has their own timeline.

I will listen to my heart and my mind to determine the things I really want. I promise to reevaluate the decisions I am making each day. I will not be afraid of making mistakes because that’s how I learn.

I am embracing my anxiety of uncertainty. It’s okay to feel afraid because I am always trying on how to overcome my fear. I strive each day because I am more than just a ball of anxiety. The palpitations.. the sweating.. they don’t define me. I have the power to control them and they won’t stop me from being the better version of myself.

1. Who would be clutching on to the other person whispering, “Don’t die,” while the other is covered in blood?

I think both definitely would. Yuma has broken down and cried even in the games, so I think he’d be one to be in denial about Megumi potentially dying. The same goes for Megumi too, she becomes extremely emotional over the ones she cares about. And she also has it in her head that Yuma is this powerful, immortal creature, so for him to be in a state like that would make her break down for sure. 

2. Who tells their partner not to leave them, and the other has to leave to protect them even though it kills them to leave?

I can see Megumi leaving for a similar reason to #9. She’s generally the one to sacrifice herself for the greater good, and if leaving is the answer then so be it. Yuma would be protective of her as well and would want to fight back instead of giving into the demands of others. But if this scenario actually happened, I think they’d be more likely to face the challenges together instead of one leaving the other.

3. Who has to hold back tears as the other slips away?

Both. But I also think both would eventually break down and cry.

4. Who would have to watch the other get murdered in front of them?

AW GEEZI wanna say Yuma. But only because I’m a terrible person and I want to see him break.WHY AM I LIKE THIS??? 

5. Who cries out for their partner but their partner isn’t there?

Again, I wanna say both. They’ve both lost too many people in their lives and finally having someone by their side would grow comfortable after a while. So both would definitely kinda freak out if the other isn’t there.

8. Who yells for their partner to warn them about danger but then their partner drops dead?

Megumi. I think she’s generally just more cautious and distrusting of any situation, so she would notice the warning signs, but by the time she does it would be too late. And you know damn well she’d blame herself for the rest of her life if that happened. 

10. Who takes a gun wound for their partner?

Megumi. Again, it’s that damn protection and sacrifice thing of hers. She’d take a bullet for those she loves, especially Yuma.

11. Who falls to floor screaming once they find out their partner is dead?

Megumi. I just think overall she’s more emotional and “dramatic” of the two. Yuma would be more in shock. But once both came to their senses again they’d want revenge. 

12. Who accidentally murders someone close to their partner?

Definitely Yuma. I don’t really see it as an accident though, more like a crime of passion or possessiveness. I think if Rose came back into Megumi’s life, shit might go down. Especially if Karlheinz has anything to do with it...

13. Who brings flowers to their partner’s grave every week?

Yuma. And you just know he’d only bring ones he brew himself just to add to the pain. 

14. Who is willing to die to keep the other safe, and when their partner protests, the one who is willing to die, dies in that moment, leaving their partner with their corpse?

WHY???Megumi again. How freaking heartbreaking would that be though? Because Yuma would definitely be pissed about her putting her life on the line for him, and if she were to just die like that... well I’m not entirely sure what he would to do to be honest...

Megumi, but only because if Yuma were to pound on her chest I don’t think she’d be very happy lol. BUT she would definitely be one to comfort him if he needed it.

“Troll Holiday” Novelization Review

Okay guys, MAJOR spoilers for the holiday special. I bought the novelization and finally caved and read it so I could write this review. Remember to buy the book yourself! Or buy the movie too when it comes out!

First off, I think this is going to be a wonderful short film to add to the Trolls canon, and fans are going to love it! Everyone’s going to see things they wanted and things they didn’t expect. The root of the story seems to be Poppy’s motivation to make the Bergens happy by giving them a new holiday. But can the Bergens find a Troll holiday to love when the two groups are so different?

SPOILERS START HERE

Everything about this story is so cute. Poppy and Bridget are like the embodiment of “BFF Goals.” They have adorable nicknames for each other, do cool handshakes, and are overall just share this powerful bond of sister-like love.

Speaking of nicknames, Bridget calls Gristle “Grissy” and Gristle calls her “Bridgie” and “babe.” Isn’t that the cutest?!

Not only do we see Poppy and Bridget’s sisterly love, we see Branch trying to fit in as a troll. The writers seem to recognize that moviegoers fell in love with Branch’s sarcasm and satirical paranoia. We can’t have just an overly happy peppy Branch who has his colors. We need a sarcastic and mildly pessimistic Branch who has his colors. We’re going to see plenty of that and also hear his angelic voice. Win-win!

Now, Poppy’s presentation of Troll holidays is going to be messy and quite over-the-top, based on what I read. It’s going to be hilarious and possibly cringe-worthy to watch, but it’s still perfectly in-tune with Poppy’s personality. She’s the type of partier who goes all-out and puts her heart and soul into everything she does. I honestly can’t wait to see the holiday presentation, even if I do cringe for poor Bridget, Gristle, and Barnabas.

The one part I’m not so sure about is the scene where the Trolls go through a wormhole while on a Caterbus (driven by Cloud Guy). It’s a very strange, quite bizarre scene that implies references to the original Good Luck Troll dolls. I feel like this was either two things: an attempt at over-the-top, satirical humor or the storytellers got a little tipsy while writing and the animators just rolled with it. Either way, it should be fun…….I think……

More of my commentary is attached to my favorite passages, also listed in this review. I can’t wait for the special to come out so I can compare it to the image I have in my head thanks to this wonderful novelization.

Passages I loved:

Pg. 2: Super-Scrapbooking Day was jam-packed with fun activities. Harper, who loved art, showed the Trolls how to make their scrapbooks more artistic. King Peppy told young Trolls thrilling stories about the adventures of scrapbooking heroes in the olden days. Guy Diamond showed everyone how to dance new steps while they add the sparkle of glitter to their creations.

First off, Super-Scrapbooking Day sounds so much fun! And when Trolls celebrate, they go all-out (there’s even a parade). I love it! I mean, Peppy is telling little ones about “scrapbooking heroes.” I just love all of it already.

Pg. 3-4: “May I see your scrapbook?” Poppy asked. Branch hastily hid it behind his back. “It’s not done,” he said. “It’s actually my first scrapbook ever.” “Aw, c’mon!” Poppy said, grinning. “Gimme a sneak peek!” “Well…….okay. But promise you won’t laugh!” “I won’t laugh—no way! What’s the theme of your scrapbook?” Poppy asked eagerly. “Rainbows? Cupcakes? Rainbows made out of cupcakes?” Branch rolled his eyes. “Rainbows made out of cupcakes? How is that even possible?” “With scrapbooking, ANYTHING is possible! So what’s your theme?” “Rocks.” “Rocks?” “Yeah. Rocks.”

Aww, look at our little Branch! He’s trying so hard to be happy and fit in with the other Trolls now that he has his colors back. But he still has some of that leftover greyness. In this special, I feel like we’re going to see quite a bit of Branch trying to figure out who he is: what is Blue Branch and what is Grey Branch?

Pg. 6-7: Not that the Bergens never had fun nowadays. They weren’t nearly as miserable as they’d been before the Trolls helped them find the happiness inside themselves. They were perfectly capable of being happy. They just weren’t very good at it. One Bergen’s idea of fun was to organize a picnic at a mud puddle. Nobody came. In fact, even the Bergen who’d invited everyone didn’t show up. Another Bergen thought it might be fun to play soccer with a wooden cube. She ended up in the hospital.

The Bergens are all undergoing changes and learning new things. They spent so much time thinking that true happiness came from eating a Troll. Just because they know they have happiness inside them doesn’t mean they know how to feel it. It must be such a big change for them to lose their only holiday and have no idea how to feel happiness without the Trolls.

Pg. 9: In Troll Village, Cooper walked around collecting mail. After he’d gathered it all, he quickly delivered it. This was easy, since most of the time he only had to walk over to the next pod and hand its owner a card or a party invitation.

This seems like a reference/throwback to an early concept design for Cooper, where our favorite giraffe-like troll was a mailman for the village. Very clever, Dreamworks.

Pg. 13: Poppy turned and saw Branch looking at himself in her mirror. He was making a face that looked tense. Painful, even. “What are you doing? What’s happening with your face? Are you about to barf?” Branch shook his head. “No, I’m practicing my smile. You know, I’m new to this whole being happy thing.”

I see some discussion about Branch’s dulled colors in the special. This further proves some of the theories that Branch as PTSD-like symptoms. He’s trying to be happy and be like the other trolls, but those are two different things. I think he’s definitely happy, especially when he’s with Poppy. But he’s not just like the other trolls, not anymore.

Pg. 25: “Wait a minute,” Branch said. “Making his own echo? Where have I heard that voice before?” Then he remembered! “Oh, no . . . not him.”

Poor Branch still doesn’t like Cloud Guy very much, which I find hilarious.

Pg. 35: Branch pointed toward the meadows. “Well, that way looks friendly and inviting, but you just know it’s going to turn out to be horrible and terrible once you get there.”

Aw, there’s our cute little pessimistic Grey Branch. Honestly, I’m glad the writers kept some of Branch’s sarcastic, sometimes-pessimistic personality even when he has his colors. After all, I think most of us fell in love with Branch because he contrasted so much against Poppy.

Pg. 39: Gigantic snowflakes fell from the sky and stuck into the ground on their sharp points. Each flake stood twice as high as a Troll!

See, what stands out to me here is that I recognize this as a brief scene from Trolls during Poppy’s song “Get Back Up Again.” Once again, the writers show how they recycle things used in the movie or concepts scrapped from the original cut. That’s the great thing about writing and filmmaking. Something that doesn’t work in one place may be awesome somewhere else in a related field.

Pg. 44: “Uh-oh,” Biggie sighed. “Who’s good at untying knots?” “Pirates?” Cooper guessed.

I’m sorry, that was like an awesome Dad Joke. I actually laughed out loud.

Pg. 52-53: Cloud Guy had an amazing voice. But he was loud. Really loud. In fact, he was so loud, several critters’ faces scrunched up. Others covered their ears with their feet. Some fell to the ground. As the critters writhed on the ground, tortured by Cloud Guy’s thundering vocals, the Trolls slipped away.

Oh geez. I’m not sure I’m looking forward to hearing that.

Pg. 56: “Cooper,” Poppy said, “pyrotechnics.” “Huh?” Cooper said. “I thought I was doing the fireworks.” “Pyrotechnics are fireworks,” Branch explained. “Oh,” Cooper said. “In that case, ready!” He gave a confident nod and a welding mask fell own over his face. he raised a gas torch, which was already lit and flaming.

Um………is anyone else concerned by that image?

Pg. 62: “On Tickle Day, we all get tickled by . . . SPIDERS!”

Okay, this is the part where I start to question the Trolls’ way of life, no matter how cute it looks. I respect all living creatures, even spiders, but I don’t want to be tickled by one.

Pg. 76: Bridget took a deep breath. “I guess what I’m saying is none of this really means anything to us.” “Um, okay,” Poppy said, not exactly sure what her friend meant. “But I just want you to have something to celebrate.”

Serious moment at last after all the craziness of the holiday presentations. This is significant. Trollstice was the Bergens’ only holiday, the only time they could be happy. Bridget has a point: none of the Trolls’ holidays mean anything to the Bergens. They don’t have any emotional attachment to said holidays. But Poppy also brings up a good point: the Bergens need something to celebrate. They need a way to exercise their new happiness, and what better way than a special, annual occasion that they can share with each other?

Pg. 80: Branch approached the pink shrub. “Poppy, I know you’re hiding in your hair.” The pink shrub sudden turned around and howled. It was a strange pink-haired critter! “Not Poppy! Not Poppy!” Biggie said, clutching Mr. Dinkles protectively. “Sorry,” Branch said. “Wrong hair.”

My thoughts on The Punisher

Surprise, surprise -- I have (extremely scattershot) thoughts about The Punisher! 

The husband and I binged this over the past 3 days (2 episodes Thursday @ midnight, 5 episodes Friday night, and 6 episodes over Saturday) and given its unrelenting intensity I’m pretty sure there are a lot of details I’m not going to fully grasp until I watch this again, but overall impression -- super solid. I would still personally rank it under Daredevil (sorry, he’s always gonna be my number 1!!), but I think it jockeys for second position with Jessica Jones? This particular show did some things amazingly well that the others haven’t, I think largely due to the fact that it was a standalone series, separate from the Defenders, and didn’t need to mess around with rationalizing any superheroics or powers -- at its core, it’s an intense and violent 13-hour examination of Frank Castle, who incidentally exists in a world with superheroes. But anyway, let’s dive in -- it should go without saying that spoilers absolutely abound after the cut...

Let’s start with the good stuff:

Jon Bernthal as Frank. Listen, whether you loved or hated the show, it can’t be denied that Jon absolutely kills it as Frank. This show lives and dies on those fine as hell shoulders and he brings it in every stage of Frank we see on screen. I liked that they never shied away from all of the messy parts of him -- geez, when he’s holding a freaking knife to Zack’s neck...worst parental pep talk ever? Or when he’s genuinely encouraging Lewis to blow himself up. And the unflinching way he goes about his kills. But as you can imagine, it’s those moments when he loses his grip on his steely control, when he can’t rely on his rage to hold him together...those were my favorite ones. When he has those aching moments with Karen by the waterfront and in the elevator. When he realizes that Russo knew about the mission that would kill Maria and the kids. We know Frank does rage well but I’m glad we didn’t fully leave behind broken, grieving Frank either. 

Well-drawn side characters, especially those that had a direct relationship with Frank. As far as main character relationships go, Frank and Micro pretty much made it for me? They balanced each other so well and were such assholes...yet caring assholes lol. I don’t even think I could keep track of how many times I just burst out laughing during their scenes. Frank explicitly trying to fuck with him by visiting Sarah, Frank tying Micro naked to the chair (of course he would), Micro pushing Frank around in the chair (hee), any exchanges that had to do with food (lol the sandwich bit), the drunk shit-talking...I loved it all. Part of me hopes that David can just live a happy, quiet life with his family and not get pulled into this shit anymore but I’m sure that’s not happening...which makes me feel torn haha.

Frank and Karen were a highlight as well. It was definitely very measured amounts of interaction, but I felt like they didn’t waste a second of it. And the way it culminated was quite emotional, but earned. Like that amazing scene in the elevator with Karen, absolutely beat up and exhausted and nearly broken and the only thing keeping them standing in that moment is that unspoken thing between the two of them -- they want so much to lean into each other and just stop but they know they can’t. She knows he can’t. And her implicit support and encouragement for him to continue on was a really strong character beat. There’s no way they don’t see each other again in DDS3 as far as I’m concerned. 

After that, I did like what they did with his connections to Curtis and Billy, I definitely bought all of them as members of the same unit and connected by this unspoken code / brotherhood. I had issues with some of the background motivations which I’ll bring up later but...yeah, I was just like DAMN Frank actually has some really good friends! I’ll call out Billy briefly here, because shit, he was SO MESSED UP but I think they did a really good job evolving his position as Frank’s grieving brother in arms in the beginning of the series to someone who has gone crazy from losing everything he’s worked for and I’m already shivering a little to imagine the pain he’s going to lay at the feet of Frank Castle and characters like Dinah...ugh ugh ugh! But anyway, well done by Ben Barnes!

Considerate approach to examining grief, PTSD and veteran’s issues. Okay, I’m really not super knowledgeable about PTSD and veteran’s issues in general so I’m only speaking from my own limited opinion, but the way it was approached on this show felt...fresh? It was handled with respect -- mainly in showing how different people process and deal with that trauma differently...you could see that in Frank, Curtis, Billy, and Lewis -- but at the same time worked as an unflinching examination of how the system fails...so that part was really solid. At first I wasn’t entirely sure why we were spending so much time with Curtis and the support group and these slightly caricatured individuals but I think it paid off in the end. Lewis was a struggle for me at first but I ultimately think he was an extremely necessary story to tell because he does encapsulate all of the failures the show was trying to examine and I think Frank needed to confront someone like him over the course of this show. 

And the examination of grief. I’ll touch upon what they did with Sarah in this section because I think that’s basically the purpose she was meant to serve with Frank. I’m sure some people weren’t super thrilled with how much it got drawn out, but I don’t know, it really kind of worked for me? Obviously Frank makes first contact simply to freak Micro the fuck out (and it works), but at a certain point, it’s essentially forced into continued contact with Sarah and the kids and despite his best efforts, I think he starts to confront his own issues and demons regarding Maria and the kids through this connection with a woman who actually has a unique and powerful understanding of exactly what he’s going through. And these meetings are almost like therapy for him? I can’t imagine he’s ever had a safe space to process all of the ways he feels like he’s let his family down. And I think he is able to work through some of this by talking to Sarah, by connecting with the kids. This is really something Frank the character needed. As far as the romantic overtones? Undertones? I found it quite realistic actually. I liked that the show towed a grey area with it for a while, and if you think a single mother of two kids who is still intensely grieving the loss of her husband and her children’s father wouldn’t respond romantically to this man who keeps showing up and essentially fixing her life? I was super opposed to the idea of Frank kissing Sarah but I think the way they did it worked. They were very clear that it was a response borne out of her own struggles, and Frank makes it very clear to her and to Micro that this doesn’t mean anything to him. If you see how Sarah reacts to Micro in the last couple of episodes (damn it was a gutpunch) then you wouldn’t worry about what she thinks about Frank Castle! 

Episodic pacing + interesting storytelling devices. People usually gripe and grouse that Netflix shows have pacing issues but I felt like Punisher (even with my minor issues with plot and stuff) really kept me engaged through the entire run. None of the episodes felt like filler or stopped the story in its tracks (which has definitely happened on all of the other Marvel Netflix series). They also took some fun risks with storytelling structure, particularly in 1x05 (with the ambush on Gunnar’s property being mainly told via body cam) and 1x10 (with the time jumps / intercutting between various POV, both reliable and not) -- it was things like that which kept the show chugging along at an exciting pace.

The not so good?

Lackluster conspiracy plot / overall antagonist. So listen, I want to be clear that I liked Dinah Midani, so I hate that I’m talking about her in the context of the not so good stuff -- she injected a dynamic the show needed, which was a strong ass female character that doesn’t really need men for anything, and more specifically, doesn’t really need the “hero” of the show for anything either (except you know, a witness statement lol)! I loved the moments we had with her and Billy (even though, UGH BILLY!!! That washing her off in the tub scene gave me legit shivers and rage) and even the briefer moments we had between her and other characters, like Karen, her mom, even her boss Rafi. But she was also the driver of a conspiracy plot that to me, kind of missed the mark. I liked that they took those threads from DDS2 and tried to build them into a larger, more wide reaching governmental conspiracy in TPS1 but...I don’t know, it just never felt like it was realized enough, and the characters more prominent in that plot never felt more than just one-dimensional means to an end (also it didn’t feel realistic that it was basically just two people doing shit in Homeland Security on any case at given time). Her motivation worked but every time they showed her smarts and intelligence and dedication to her job, they would undercut it a bit by making her less than capable in the field, always making questionable decisions and getting her people killed. Overall, it was one of those, works on paper, doesn’t work in execution kind of storylines. 

And tying this conspiracy plot that never quite worked to the lack of a strong, overall antagonist -- I don’t think it’s something a regular show would have needed, but as a comic book adaptation (particularly a Marvel Netflix one), I was expecting a bit more. Rawlins was literally never a convincing antagonist -- his inclusion felt like a necessity on the conspiracy side, but he didn’t play off Frank in any convincing way. He was a blowhard and an asshole, not really a bad guy. That misogynist asshole Wolfe had more convincing presence to me in the small number of episodes he featured in than Rawlins tbh. As for Russo, he was obviously a much stronger foil to Frank (and a compelling secondary foil to Dinah as the female lead) but since the story was actively building him up to become the villain next season, he didn’t really tick the right antagonist boxes for me this time around either. I also didn’t like how his motivations felt really muddled a lot of the time, I liked that we kept switching back and forth from oh wait Billy is a good guy, oh no, Billy is an epic piece of shit, but I would have appreciated more clarity on why he made the choices he made and why that would justify such an epic betrayal of his brother.  

Heavyhanded approach to certain side issues. As well done as the grief and PTSD storylines were, most of the gun control related side plots just didn’t really work for me. I understood why they included it -- you can’t make a show like the Punisher in this current day and age without addressing the elephant in the room -- but it just felt really clunky. I guess at the very least they made the characters symbolizing both sides of the debate equally clunky? Hypocrite senator was about as annoying as NRA blowhard guy (though he certainly didn’t deserve to meet that end, RIP NRA blowhard guy). I guess I just feel torn because I have a very strong stance on this IRL but I almost feel as if I would have rather they not included it in this show if it wasn’t going to be handled with care. I’ve accepted that the Punisher and really any sort of violence driven show created for entertainment (which is...so much of our programming nowadays) can’t always be a grand statement regarding societal ills. Sometimes they just are what they are. But at least in the case of the Punisher, it didn’t feel like the violence was meant to be glorified or cheered on (I didn’t anyway) or viewed as some sort of heightened violence fantasy. It was brutal and unsettling. Anyway, all of this to say that I clearly don’t quite know about I feel about it since this was such a damn rambly paragraph lol. 

Storytelling issues + plot holes. So while I’ve said that the biggest positive the show had to offer was the lack of reliance on an expected superhero formula, I think this made me struggle a bit more than usual with being able to suspend my disbelief about certain goings-ons in-show...like, the moment Frank shaves off his hobo hipster beard, how does NO ONE RECOGNIZE THE DUDE FROM LAST YEAR’S TRIAL OF THE CENTURY?? (Though I legit enjoyed the hilariously awkward silence of the Lieberman family watching the TV and being like WTF) And how does Frank literally get shot / stabbed / tortured in every other episode but manage to bounce back in a day so he could do more Punishing. Even Matt couldn’t recover that quickly if he tried! Like I don’t know, I would have liked to see Frank wearing more body armor or protecting his head or SOMETHING. And as delightfully fanservice-y the Turk cameo was, no way Frank Castle wouldn’t end him without a second thought. Of course, these are such nitpicks but they did take me out of it every so often. 

So as you can see, for me there were more positives than negatives. Everything that I saw makes me extremely excited to see Frank’s Punisher in the Marvel Netflix universe again. I thought they told a very self contained story here and hit nearly all of the beats that you could want in this particular adaptation. I wouldn’t have expected them to leave it so open ended at the end but in retrospect it was a bold choice and I think one that is very considerate of this version of Frank Castle that we know. As someone who doesn’t have the emotional attachment to him via comics, I’m somewhat glad we didn’t just end this show with him as full on Punisher. I think there are more stories to explore before we get there. I also 100% expect him to reappear in DDS3 at this point and I’m super curious about where he goes in TPS2. I feel by that point, they’ll need to lean into the more comic book-y elements and it’ll be interesting to see how they handle that tonal shift.

Odds for Ahriss, evens for Rivka? :3

oooh, okay *cracks knuckles* this is gonna be long

1. Ahriss has spent most of her life existing on one extreme end or the other as far as a spectrum of personal space allowances go. During her childhood and adolescence, her community overall didn’t have much in the way of individual space or privacy with the number of people living in the quarters they had, and space boundaries in interactions with anybody of higher status weren’t really hers to set; and this sort of constant presence of other people was largely adapted into a background noise she became numb to as a way to deal with it. Of course later as a Sith Lord, she’s subject to the opposite extreme, because of course you don’t crowd the personal space of a Sith, what do you have a death wish? Which is a bit of a subconscious shock that takes getting used to, but it largely ends up being more to her taste eventually? So at that point, she would be probably more likely to feel uncomfortable with other people getting too close to her, but that doesn’t really... ever happen much.

3. Depends on what kind of art museum! If it’s anything Sith-related, she’d be all over it, but otherwise not so much - most of her interest in art relates to what it has to say about history, and non-Sith history tends to cohabit in her mind with watching paint dry.

5. This is another thing that changes pretty drastically as Ahriss gets older. As an adolescent and a young apprentice, she tends to be very deliberate and think things through logically, but that honestly has a lot to do with the extent to which she suppresses her emotions at that point in her life than anything else. Later, her political work as a Dark Councilor also requires a good amount of deliberation and thus keeps her in the habit of such with her professional life, at least, but overall the further an aspect of her life gets from that context, the more likely she is to be impulsive and act on (momentary) emotion. OTHER PEOPLE certainly try to get her to find a bit of balance, esp during the Eternal Railroad timeline (cough Lana cough), but that especially is due to how easily she’d self-destruct out of impulsive poor decisions at that point, and not, like, any kind of active mental self-reflection on Ahriss’s part :X

7. Oh man. Well, for one thing, she was kind of rather terrified to face the Dread Masters again on Oricon. Not, hah, because of all their ABSOLUTE TERROR!!! powers, but because (as I’ve talked about a little in some fic), the way she experiences power and Force empathy makes the idea of letting herself get subsumed into their bond viscerally attractive. As for “overcoming” that fear.... ??? Honestly that’s not something I entirely understand, as a concept? In any case, there wasn’t any big story to it - she just needed to do it, so she did. There wasn’t any other choice.

9. Errr.... that really, really depends XD I suppose she’s more often gullible in an interpersonal sense, basically inclined to believe that anyone who’s kind to her actually has her best interest at heart? (coughZASHcough) Which has, lol, that’s definitely been taken advantage of x__x But then, on the other hand, if something runs counter to her expectations or prior experience, she’s absolutely skeptical to the point of rather extreme resistance to any information attempting to change her mind. (For example: anything about the Jedi not being evil incarnate; also Talos’s appeal to not search for immortality during the SI Rishi questline.)

11. Mmm, oh geez... for any sort of RPG with the three basic classes, she’d obviously be a mage. In something more D&D-esque, I’m inclined to say... *leafs through a wiki article on classes* ...cleric? Like. An evil cleric. But still. Warlock also might make sense?

2. Ohhhh gosh. Rivka would.... probably *really love* being a field archaeologist. She’s a big fucking nerd. But alas, the universe has not been kind to her in this respect, and it would probably never happen, or at least not until a lot of time and a lot of working through her feelings of her life not belonging to her happened :(

4. “Do they tend to try and cover it up and say they’re fine” OHHHH WOW THAT TOTALLY IS NOT A THING RIVKA WOULD EVER DO, OBVIOUSLY......... which is to say that is exactly what she does most of the time. Her combat prowess is one of the few things she’s been consistently praised and valued for, so anything that compromises that, she is very reticent to reveal to other people; and emotionally she also finds it hard to trust people with her weakness and pain. As for consequences, hah. There’s definitely the whole “untreated PTSD” thing going on after being controlled by Vitiate, which while probably not something that would have been dealt with regardless because Jedi, was not really helped by her keeping almost everyone at arms’ length about the whole matter.

6. I don’t think she is terribly easily creeped out by scary stories, honestly. Probably the most disturbing sorts of horror scenarios to her would be those involving a loss of physical or mental control over oneself - her mental abilities and confidence in them are pretty foundational to her self-concept, and the trope of Force users who lack self-discipline going off the deep end and committing atrocities and ending up controlled by evil desires is pretty well hammered into the subconscious of most Jedi of her generation.

8. Failed relationships, oof. Rivka does not handle them terribly well, mentally at least - she doesn’t try to cling to things once they’re clearly not working, but up to that point she’ll try to make things function even to the point of biting her tongue, and in general she’s very susceptible to self-doubt and blame over messing things up, being somehow wrong, et cetera. (I haven’t talked about it much on here, but one thing she had to deal with growing up was being shunted around through several different Jedi Masters before Orgus Din took her on, because of personality and theoretical outlook clashes. If anyone brings it up, she tends to act pretty blase about it, but it definitely left her susceptible to feeling like it’s something inherently wrong with her when a relationship goes poorly. In general, she’ll take a while to warm up to people and feel like she can begin to trust them on more than a superficial level.)

10. Rivka’s definitely a light packer. She doesn’t own a ton in the way of personal belongings to begin with, and what she does have is largely utilitarian - her comm unit/recording device, credit chits, her lightsaber, a couple of basic tools for maintaining her arm and leg in the field. If she’s got extra space for packing things and isn’t actively working on a mission, she’ll often have a datapad on her for reading.

Okay okay here we go lol So to the others who asked too here are the answers:

Elfroot :: What is a small, mundane thing that brings your character great comfort? [also asked by @fun-sized-owl]

Feeling the soil under her bare feet. It’s just something she’s so used to, and it’s why she prefers being barefoot over wearing any kind of footwear most of the time, unless she really has to. She likes to feel the terrain, it gives her a sense of security and a confidence on where she’s stepping, and it’s overall comforting. If she’s standing still, she’s probably curling her toes subconsciously to feel the grass/ground.

Blood Lotus :: Is your character a lightweight when it comes to intoxicating substances? How did they come across this fact? [also asked by @thedalishbloodmage]

You have no idea. She doesn’t smoke or take any drugs aside from medicinal herbs (elfroot and chewing on certain tree barks for minor aches, that stuff), but she does drink every now and then, mostly mead. And after a couple of mugs she’ll already be tipsy. Give her more and you’ll have her drunk very quickly. She usually knows her limits though and knows when to stop, and she doesn’t drink that often unless she’s celebrating something.

Spindleweed :: Had your character ever been grievously wounded or ill before? What was their memory of that occasion?

If you read her bio or have interacted a fair bit with her already, you already know she had a less than friendly encounter with bandits when she was 19 which earned her the scars in her ear, neck and a smaller one in her shoulder. It was only luck that her fellow clan members and hunters got there to help her quickly and keep her from further harm, but she was traumatized by it and since then she can’t have a knife near her body without panicking (not even using one herself, which is kind of a big deal for her considering she’s a huntress who used to skin and cut her own game :/).

As for illnesses, she catches colds really easily: she doesn’t have much fat in her body to keep her warm and she’s used to the warm weather of the northern Free Marches, so in places that are colder, snowy and rainy, she’ll definitely catch something in a heartbeat and it will be full on: headaches, sore throat, fever, etc.

Deathroot :: What is the most horrifying thing the Nightmare can cause your character to see?

Show her her brother’s death and you’ve beaten her. And the Nightmare definitely does that, and makes it feel so real too which turns Aylen into a crying mess right there. It’s a very sensitive memory, still there raw and painful and the moment the Nightmare takes advantage of it she relives all of that and it’s just awful for her.

Deep Mushroom :: What act does your character consider morally foul but practically necessary? Does your character condone morally foul actions for practicality’s or necessity’s sake at all? [also asked by @fun-sized-owl]

Basically killing people. Being part of the Inquisition, she knows she will have to kill people in order to achieve their goal and to protect those she needs to, and to defend herself. Stealing? Nope. Killing her enemies? If she has to, she will. And she does. As long as she sees it as completely necessary for the mission, she will do it and won’t hesitate to do so.

Embrium :: What is the kindest thing anyone had ever done to your character, and do they remember or even know it happened?

She notices all little acts of kindness directed towards her, and she will remember them and the person who did it and always try to pay them back in some way. She still remembers those few people that treated her kindly during her travels before the Inquisition, more so those farmers that aided her when she was all on her own after Haru’s death and she needed refuge on a rainy or snowy night. All of them, she paid them back hunting for them or doing a job for them before going back into the wilderness alone.

Rashvine :: Who/what is the one thing or person your character simply cannot stand?

Anyone that goes around insulting people for the sake of it. You go around talking trash about elves? She’ll glare daggers at you and go over to give you a piece of her mind. She catches you mocking or hurting someone defenseless? Oh hell no you didn’t. And in that instant, they’re off her good side.

Arbor Blessing :: What is the happiest ending you can think of for your character?

A friend/LI convinces her to contact her clan again, and go back to see them and come to terms with her guilt about what happened to her brother. She doesn’t really return permanently, but she goes back to them every now and then. She finally finds peace of mind, moves on, and let’s herself know things will be okay and that she can move forward, and that’s alright. She can be happy.

She travels the world, discovering new places, learning new things. Not alone, no, she doesn’t like that: she travels with good friends she made during her time with the Inquisition, or she falls in love and stays with said lover: travels with them, but they always have a little place, their own place to return to, together, just them. Somewhere she can call home.

Vandal Aria :: How well can your character bounce back from personal tragedies?

Eh, she’s not good at this. She has a high tendency to blame herself over personal traumas, tragedies and basically anything that goes wrong, and then anxiousness and guilt take over, and damn she’s stubborn too so she’ll keep on blaming herself for years if allowed. It takes a lot of support from someone she cares about and trusts to slowly make her way out of that hole. She can’t do it on her own, to be honest. She needs support and comfort, lot of pep talk and reassurance.
