Okay tw under the page break: death, grief, a tiny bit of implied gore

So many things to explore with the different SKs and their reactions to discovering it, to the actual event of shad dying, to the aftermath where they'd be forced to give up their power and their immortality to end the pain of basically being suspended in the time between living and dying or deciding to keep the power as it slowly dwindles and destroys their bodies bit by bit. Torn to shreds because they were so full of greed. Living through every ounce of pain that came until it finally ended. A warrior to the end, no?

I'd love to see if I could write smthn with this concept. I'm thinking of all the options I'd have. Like how does laur find out? Through vylad (a comrade), before the fight? Or Gene in the middle of the battle, a shock that gives gene enough time to knock laurance down and remind him of everything he's gone through to get here, how much he's lost and how much hes had to give up for the ones he loves, how much he's been pushed to the side for the village's gain?

Would Laurance reconsider, turn on aph or Garroth? Would be hesitate to kill them, let gene do it instead and tell laurance it was his fault they died so brutally, that laurance could have done it himself if he wasn't so afraid? Or would he double down, get stronger, fight harder, and win? Why, because he thinks he's okay with dying for them? Or does he think it's the only way he can save them from every bad thing that laurance represents? Does he defeat Shad because he thinks it is the only way his soul could be redeemed by Irene, to be the end of her lost lover's reign of terror, to end the existence of these demonic bodies that were corrupted and twisted from their original forms?

Furthermore, how would aphmau and Garroth react? Would they find him before he fully died or would they find him after, slowly decaying with a peaceful smile stuck in his face? How would they tell the others, the village, the alliance? What would they say of him when he was gone, how would they celebrate him, how would they remember him? Would he be forgotten in the history books, another faceless admirer of the new Irene?

Some random other questions: would Laurance meet ungrith in some sort of limbo or would ungrith already be born again? Or would laurance's soul be devoured by the fates as a payment because of how long he kept it after he died? Maybe he becomes a ghost like Malachi, doomed to walk within the borders of Phoenix Drop unseen and unheard for years, decades, forever...

Would aphmau and Garroth grieve together or would they end up blaming each other, or themselves, for laurance's choice and for not knowing until it was too late? Would they ever know if he suffered as he died again? how long he was there dying, if it was cold and quiet in their absence or if the burning of the nether and screaming of the souls be the last thing he heard-- a demented lullaby to sooth his aching soul to rest...

Ahem as you can tell I think a lot about laurance... Please tell me any of this made sense...

This post is relating to the thoughts that @laurencezvahlslefteyebrow, @xerith-42 and I have been discussing. Somehow the brain rot has progressed to me completely losing my shit.

We were talking about what would happen to Shadow Knights if Shad were defeated and he died. And I have sososo many thoughts.

But this ones a bit hard to explain.

Shad's presence is necessary for Shadow Knights to exist. His being is what keeps them in motion, so in turn, you'd think the Shadow Knights would die once Shad does.

I know @xerith-42 was thinking the difference would be between Premature SKs and Full ones. However, I think it's more dependent on how the SK was formed.

I think Shad's control is necessary for undead shadow knights. His spirit has to be around for Undead SKs to be "alive," seeing as he literally has to revive them. If Shad dies; and his spirit is gone, the undead shadow knights finally get to pass on. I think it would be more of a relief, even to those like Gene. Especially to those like Gene. He barely has any autonomy left, so once Shad is gone, he can finally think for himself, even if it's in some world beyond.

This is all different for transformed/living SKs. They are still alive, and still have life energy. Shad is only a part of them, not their entire being. So, once Shad is gone, they aren't shadow knights anymore. However, they aren't human. They are... something else. Something more empty. To be transformed, something is ripped from their soul, and replaced with something from Shad. So, when Shad is gone, that part of them is gone, and it's not replaced with anything.

So, Living SKs survive once Shad is gone, but they almost transform into something else. Something we haven't seen before. I'm not sure what that is yet. I really want opinions on what this would look like, especially in Laurance.

details bout michael n eins dynamic. 2 me (cw physical/emotional abuse, cannibalism, suicide/suicidal idealizations, ableism, self-harm)

michael only refers to himself as eins father when he wants ein to do something, any other time hes just michael .

lets ein not refer to him as sir to make him feel more "special" .

after eins mom broke up w zack she sorta got a bit. out of it. she started neglecting ein and she became depressed. The First Step in ein distrusting others bc his mother stopped paying attention 2 him. michael used a small amount of his magic to control her and make her drown herself in the kitchen sink and then kidnapped ein, making it look like she had killed herself and ein had ran away. .

just as a small thing of me hcing ein as a transguy, michael named him ein bc the meaning of "ian" (which is what his name is just spelled weird) is "God is Gracious" as a constant reminder that michael "saved" ein. .

ein wasnt tested on w forever potions (in the early stages w the other kids) because michael absolutely could not let Zack know he had his other stupid kid. when ein found out about the testing he was extremely upset bc he wasnt "special enough" for it. picture ein 6 years old begging for medical malpractice to be used on him .

he was tested later but as a teen when michael got out, since he didnt have access to the other children. although he wasn't able to use the full potions since he didnt have access to emeralds at the moment, so he used diluted versions of the potions that weren't as powerful via syringes. ein gets a fear needles from it .

when michael n the other two idiots were locked in the pocket dimension ein went through a brief depressive period bc the One Guy he (thought) cared about him disappeared. when michael did get out he didnt tell ein immediately bc he . doesnt like ein but when he found out ein got arrested he told ein that he should stay in jail for a few months to "learn his lesson" .

slightly unrelated but when michael wanted him out of jail he also wanted ein to disappear off the radar so he faked eins death in jail. originally he wanted ein to die in like a riot but ein, sensing an opportunity, asked for it to say he killed himself instead. the opportunity being aphmau half way into her uni course looking up her old high school bullies to see what theyre up to and just finding out ein is Fucking Dead .

the potions michael uses on ein are mainly magic power related (like eins Green Laser) because he likes manipulating ein into doing things rather than using his magic because its "more fun" .

michael subconsciously views ein as his actual son (mcd travis) bc he feels like "this one is a better son" or whatever .

not a specific thing but mother knows best reprise from tangled is a Viewpoint on their dynamic 2 me .

ein is internally scared of michael but he never verbally says that and if anyone asks him if he is he denies it immediately bc he doesnt want pity. you can see it in his eyes though. elizabeth is really the only other person who mentions it but she mostly uses it to make fun of ein because she "doesnt think its that bad" (<- she is unaware) .

bc of michael ein absolutely hates unwarranted physical touch. he reacts violently if anyone grasps his shoulder from behind or touches his upper arms. the only touch he usually allows is people lightly touching his hair/head bc he still registers it as headpats (grabbing his hair usually results in him biting) .

michael usually physically threatens or abuses ein to reprimand him but sometimes he throws ein into the Metaphorical Torture Box for entertainment .

basically most of the things michael does to ein is for his own amusement .

he also heavily dehumanizes ein to convince him to do evil acts, rationalizing it to him as "you arent a person so is it really that bad??" ein does not view himself as an actual person at this point more so as a nameless soldier, a weapon, etc .

i used this for an old fic n stuff too but also michael makes ein commit cannibalism to forcibly dehumanize him more. he wants to make ein feel entirely disconnected from humanity (like michael feels for himself) so ein will basically be a "mini michael" .

ein also consciously copies michaels mannerisms/speech. only really elizabeth n zack notice it however and it just fucking freaks zack the hell out (elizabeth is also freaked out by it but mostly ignores it) .

theres just a general theme of a loss of control for ein in general. he gets a small allowance from michael and hes not allowed out overnight, all his communication is usually internally with the researchers or guardian forces. most of the time ein self isolates from them, viewing them as beneath him and michael. when they try to talk to him its a 50/50 whether he'll tell them to fuck off or he'll hiss at them .

another specific detail is pre s4 ein fucked up a potion and instead of his usual reprimand, michael used pliers to defang ein. in his head its the one thing ein can't rationalize about michaels actions (the one "seed of doubt" he has). he usually makes excuses for michael's actions towards him but being defanged is the only one he struggles with since he knows that michael knows how important his wolf side is to him .

pre s5 and just like at the end of s5 (when ein was seen on the bridge) he was going through another depressive episode bc he missed his ears and tail. he was mainly just going through the motions of his daily life but he was barely holding on. michael repeatedly discouraged ein from committing because the plan would be messed up because of it (michael said that directly to him) and he would imply that ein would be a traitor if he went through with it. .

michael actually flipped between discouraging and encouraging ein to commit to see what he would do. .

he's caught ein self-harming before, w ein attempting to either drown or smother himself. michael doesnt like doing this regularly but most of the time he lets ein hug him so he feels "comforted". other times michael just scolds him and tells him to not do it again. .

i also hc ein as a low empathy autistic (bc # me) and he used to stim very openly and loudly but michael disliked that part of him so he "trained" ein to not stim in public which just results in him being constantly overstimulated, a contributor to Ein being fucking mad all the time. hes like a hair trigger away from a meltdown at all times .

the only method of stimming ein can usually get away w is when he scratches his arms/scabs. unfortunately he doesn't trim his claws and it usually results in ein making himself bleed or reopening scars. michael has attempted to get him to stop doing this but its pretty much a compulsion for ein at this point.

jess’ biggest mistake in the mystreet franchise is how she shifted the funny silly goofy moments into suddenly there’s guns and aphmau is being called a whore in college

it’s so sudden, it comes out of nowhere and ruins the atmosphere and lore it had previously.

the best way i can describe this is travlyn in llp.

if you’ve watched or rewatched love love paradise you can see that katelyn learns that travis knew about dante and nicole, but didnt tell her. so she spends a while giving him the silent treatment.

you think, “oh lmao it’s just a funny bit of angry gf and desperate bf”. thats the tone it has. it doesn’t come off as genuinely realistic or serious. they’ve both done worse shit to each other and it was played off as a looney toons joke ffs

but then out of nowhere, travis yells (yelling is understatement but yknow, he gives a ‘stern talking to’) at katelyn and now it’s suddenly extremely serious and travis is about to break up with her.

idk abt you but that gave me absolute whiplash. i was not expecting it and it just.. seemed to out of place? for me, it was hard to tell if jess’ goal was for travis to blow up all along, or if she just wanted to last minute come up with an excuse as to why they’re not dating in lovers lane.

what im trying to say is, jess needs to learn how to shift the tone in her stories to keep things consistent. it was done horribly imo. and it fucked up the experience for a lot of her viewers. it became hard to enjoy when jess came up with serious plotlines, only to completely contradict them two seasons later.

there’s so much mainstream media that starts off as shit posty funny haha but slowly shift into a more serious and action filled plot. aka gravity falls or literally any other popular cartoon shows.

also i do want to say. where angels fall wasn’t bad.. honestly. if it was a standalone show, it’d be a pretty good show but because its not, because it’s intertwined with all these other plots and shows that jess didn’t even bother to patch up well, it just doesn’t do it any justice

So like in this context I mean that aph probably doesn't wanna say her own name (or own god-name cause it's confusing) in that way cause it's strange. It's like saying "oh Kyle!" Every time something scares you. So she'd want to substitute it and she thinks that Edmund is the best option so she starts using his name instead.

BUT there's actually a lot of this happening in canon. Or at least... Canon through my funny "ignore the bad writing" glasses.

Garroth is obvious, he worships Irene, a lot of things about him are related to his relationship with Irene and how he views his worth tied to her. But he also acts the same with aphmau (pre and post relic finding). He loves her, obvs, but he also speaks really highly of her, he never lets people talk shit about her, he believes she's all that is good and is thankful when she appears at the village because she fixes everything up, doesn't immediately believe what the other villagers say about him, and also,, actually makes the village aware again.

He looks up to her a lot and I think it's a really interesting thing to look at. Imagine dedicating your life to this woman as her head guard, basically worshipping her and doing everything she needs without her asking, doing THE most. And then BAM she's actually the god you've worshipped your whole life no big deal guys!

(alt vibe: imagine the resentment he feels towards her when he finds out she's Irene and Irene herself could save him. Ik logically she COULDN'T but man with severe religious anxiety and PTSD coming out of a horribly traumatising experience will not be thinking calmly and clearly and I'd like to see him act out for actual reasons and not,, pissbaby "you chose someone else" and "you're not listening to me!1!1!!!" Reasons)

Anyway back on track, aphmau is kinda similar in this way! She's bright eyed and very socially awkward, doesn't know a lot in general bc she! Has no memory! So when Garroth, a man who knows a lot and also has authority but is still kind and welcoming to her when others aren't, shows her compassion and treats her like a person even when she doesn't feel like one? This is the closest thing she knows to look up to, she knows she wants to be strong and smart and capable and Garroth knows how to do that.

She'd praise him for being a good guard all the time, she risked her life to go on a bunch of random missions to get him the only magic doctor they knew that could heal Garroth and she felt DEVASTATED when the lord (Burt?) Couldn't help. She was prepared to go out and find any way she could to save Garroth because he was all she knew! And like thank Irene the lord had a stupid potion somewhere but ! She was ready to risk everything because she wanted him to live.

All of this to say: aph and Garroth have praise kinks and I will not accept otherwise. CLEARLY Laurence is made for them both and this is where I push my garrencemau propaganda /j

Fr tho I'm always staring a little too hard at the interpersonal relationships in my blorbos shows (because I must begrudgingly include mystreet... For the three pieces of content I like xD) and I love making stupid and frankly "too out there" connections between random things. Before we start trigger warning for like, child abuse and torture and shit. Seriously this gets dark. Zane redemption must come at a price >:D

So. Something interesting to me in regards to Zane is how in MCD, He's like, this evil, terrible human being, but in Mystreet, he's like, a semi functional human being who can be a NOT bad person and NOT do bad things. And so I got to thinking.

I don't think Zane was born a bad person.

Personally, I kind of hate the way Jess wrote Zane. Like, yes, evil for the sake of evil is great and all, but like. In season one and two, Zane was this overarching antagonist who was always one step ahead of the cast and plotting and having a good time being a paice of shit.

And then season 3 comes around and now he's a shadow knight, on the run, has PTSD...

Look, I'm not knocking the guy for having PTSD. I'm just saying that the way it's portrayed kind of makes him seem like a whimpery coward. AGAIN, NOT KNOCKING PTSD!!

I think the position that Zane found himself in season 3 was a PERFECT set up for a redemption arc and it makes me SO MAD that it didn't happen.

So I guess I have to do it myself apparently -_-

I've been thinking a lot about Zane. I don't want him to stop being evil. Not right away. So we keep what happened in the first two seasons the same. He's a cackling maniac that has killed a shit ton of people and is on his father's payroll.

And then he dies.

Anyway, Zane is dead. But he's also Zane, so of course he weasels his way out of being dead. And then he gets tortured and is subjected to the same suffering he condemned so many others to yada yada yada PTSD bleh.

Everything seems to be the same so far.

But then he breaks out if the nether. Still, we're on track, right?

He gets captured, he gets expedited to Phoenix Drop, he gets interrogated, it's all the same.

But here we find a canon divergence. Instead of being absolute dumbasses, they don't bring him into the nether. Let's scrap that plot point entirely.

Instead, we're going to let Zane bake in prison for a while!

Here are the main issues that make Zane irredeemable.

1. He's killed like, a shit ton of people, for funsies ig

2. He killed Vylad.

3. He destroyed Aaron's village.

Let's keep those things in mind.

So he's in prison. While in prison, Garroth starts to visit him (along with Travis but shhhh we'll get to him another day) and just. You know. Be angry.

Garroth has seen Zane as a spoiled brat his entire life. He's always been their father's favorite. He's always had everything handed to him on a silver platter. He's always been willing to do whatever it takes for power. He's greedy. He's psychotic. Garroth hates him.

But Zane is Garroth's brother. And Garroth is the type of golden retriever, gold hearted, kind type of character to still love his brother even if he hates him.

That doesn't mean he goes in and is like, nice to him though. Nope. Garroth goes to visit him and nine times out of ten it devolves into a screaming match where Zane antagonizes him the entire time and Garroth yells at him for being a shitty human being.

And then one day Phoenix Drop is attacked and Zane escapes.

They track him down eventually. When they find him, they strike a deal with him. Due to Irene related shenanigans they need his expertise as a scholar of Irene to figure out some more stuff for Aphmau. In exchange, they'll protect him from the Shadow Lord (who he pissed off by stealing one of his soul fragments lol Zane behavior).

Eventually they're able to establish a rapore with Zane. Garroth still gets a migraine whenever they have a conversation. Vylad still refuses to speak to him (oh btw he's visiting from his nether revolution vacation just so u know) and Aphmau still wants to tear out his guts for killing the love of her life or whatever, but he becomes manageable. They can like, stand him. A little bit. Slightly.

And then Zianna gets kidnapped or whatever. So they go rescue her. But when they get back to Phoenix Drop they forget to mention the fact that Zane is like. There and in the wild and not currently killing entire villages worth of people.

So Zianna rolls up to Phoenix Drop and gets jumpscared by her youngest son and also, notably, Zane is NOT happy to see her. He shuts the front door in her face. It's hilarious even though Garroth doesn't think of it that way.

So, now we have our key players all in one place. Garroth, Vylad, Zane, and Zianna.

Let's say they have to all go find an artifact toghether or something and they need Zianna there because it's related to something she knows and they need Zane there because of Irene lore reasons. they go on this mission. One day, they sit and set up for the night, set up bedrolls, whatever. They're lounging around the fire and talking when Vylad eventually mentions his time as a shadow knight in the nether and something about torture.

Zane blinks, and, having not been included in the conversation initially, buts it to say,

"Oh, please. Don't tell me getting tortured by those amatures was DISTRESSING for you. I would have thought father's methods would have given you thicker skin."

The others bristle and start scolding him, of course, because Zane is like, the reason Vylad became a shadow knight in the first place. But Vylad himself, who is very observant and hard to antagonize, latches into something Zane said.

"Methods? What methods?" He says. He says it sharply, too.

Of course, Zane doesn't pick up on this. He just rolls his eyes.

"Don't tell me you forgot. Father had a whole floor dedicated to torture and loved collecting new methods from around the region. I think he even had a historian employed who would research for him..."

"What?" Garroth says, stunned out of his anger.

Zianna has gone silent. So has everyone else, and now they're watching with baited breaths.

"So what? What would that have to do with me?"

And for the first time that they've ever seen, Zane looks... Puzzled.

There's silence.

Zane looks back at all of them, confused and now kind of pissed off. He looks like he usually does when he feels like he's about to be scolded for saying something crass. Except, that's not what happens. Instead, Vylad looks him in the eye for the first time since Zane killed him, and with the most emotion they've ever heard from him, says,

"What?"

Zane hums.

"Come on. Don't play dumb. He hated you. Im sure he must have sent you to the "torture basement" at least once. You got on his nerves constantly,"

Garroth makes an aborted movement, like he's going to stand up and rush him, but Vylad stops him with a flick of his hand. And then Vylad starts doing what he does best. Interrogating him.

So remember that list, right? Let's reframe a few things.

Zane was not the favorite child. Garroth was.

Garte was a paice of shit. Garte hated Vylad. But he also hates Zane. Why wouldn't he? Vylad was his wife's affair child, sure, but Zane, Zane was Zianna's spitting image.

When Zane was little, he used to take snails and out them in the grass after it rained. He uses to clamor for his mother's pastries just like his brothers. He was a normal child, and he was NOT born a psychopath.

But Garte had a thought, one day.

Wouldn't it be funny... If he made his wife think he WAS one?

Wouldn't it be funny to punish her that way? Wouldn't it be funny to turn Zane into a terrible person, and have her think it was for no reason? Make her think that she birthed a psychopath? How much would it hurt her? How much would she weep?

Garte used to punish Zane for Vylad's joy. One of Vylad's laughs would equal one slap to the face. One side remark in defence of their mother would equal one hour locked in his father's study closet in his office.

Garte turns Zane against himself brothers. And the best part in his mind?

He makes Zane believe that they know about all of it.

He tells Zane that his mother knows about it. That his brothers don't care that he's beaten. That Vylad does things so he gets punished on purpose.

Zane grows up thinking that his brothers probably go through this too. He grows up thinking that his mother just doesn't love him. And so he doesn't say a thing.

Garte starts having him tortured instead of superficially physically abused? He says nothing.

Garte makes him become a priest of Okasis even though the consequence of failing the academy is death? He says nothing.

Garte would encourage Zane to blugeon animals to death and bring them to Zianna and laugh at her horrified face from afar. Garte encourages Zane to say psychotic things while they're eating dinner, and watches as his family becomes more and more convinced Zane is a monster.

Until Zane is one.

But this reframes a few things.

The people Zane killed? It was under orders. He eventually became his father's right hand man. Most of his overarching goals have been in service of his father.

For Aaron's village, we'll stick a pin in that one, but long story short, Aaron's village had been planning a coup that night under his wife's orders. Zane had them killed under his father's orders so they could eliminate them as political neighbors. He let Aaron live out of pity.

And Vylad.

Basically, remember when I said that Garte used to punish Zane according to Vylad's actions?

One day, Vylad gets into an explosive argument with Garte defending Zianna. And Garte, again, without the other's knowing, has Zane tortured. Except this time it's for a WEEK STRAIGHT.

So when Zane gets out. He's. Very unstable.

And then he comes across Vylad in a semi secluded area.

And Vylad is acting like he did nothing, and all he's ever done is make Zane suffer, and Zane hates him hates him HATES HIM--

And so he snaps. And he kills him.

Keep in mind, though, Zane thinks this is all normal. He doesn't realize that killing his own brother has traumatized him. He doesn't realize that he's a victim of abuse. He doesn't realize that what his dad did is not okay because he THINKS HIS FAMILY KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED, and if they didn't contradict his abuse, then this must be normal. He thinks that Vylad has probably been tortured too. He thinks Garroth is their father's favorite because in his mind he's determined that Garroth not receiving any attention from their father is a GOOD thing because ATTENTION EQUALS TORTURE to him.

And this reframes a few things. His constant bid for power? It's not greed, it's DESPERATION. Power makes him feel safe. Hurting others makes him feel powerful because that's how his father had power over him.

His highly volatile and violent personality? It's l he's ever known. Do you have ANY idea what torture could do to a child? He has severe PTSD. Like, severe and repressed and his outburst are more common when he's uncomfortable or anxious or experiencing any negative emotion, which is often.

Garte took Zane's empathy from him. Turned him against his family. Made him into a monster. With these types of characters, I imagine it would probably be very difficult for them to redevelop their emotions and empathy because if they do that, they would have to face their whole mountain of trauma and the guilt of all the lives they've ruined.

I think eventually, after a lot of work, Zane does eventually regain his empathy. It probably finally sinks in during a small gathering. His mother makes her famous cake. Zane has long gotten used to being excluded during these sorts of things, but then...

His mother slides a plate of cake right in front of him.

Strawberry.

His favorite.

And she smiles at him.

This is probably after they found out about Garte being a peice of shit. Maybe a few months.

All Zane has ever wanted is to be loved. Maybe he didn't know it, but when he takes a bite of his mother's strawberry cake for the first time in decades and the nostalgic taste registers in his brain, something snaps.

And he becomes human again.

And he realizes:

Oh.

I'm a person.

I'm a murderer.

I'm a monster.

Another of Bee's Rants that Absolutely No One Asked For !!!!

Today's Topic: MCD Season 2 Laurance 👎

I'm really going to be talking about season 2, episode 95 of Diaries. I don't really see a lot of people talk about this but when I do they always think Laurance is in the right. If you don't remember, the episode was about Aphmau taking Leona and Nekoette out to look around the Island. Aaron had just died I think 3 weeks or maybe a month prior to this, so still very soon after his death. Aphmau saw an Imp that took the form of Aaron and she had to kill it. She then took Leona and Nekoette back and sat on the beach. Here is what I want to talk about. Aphmau is there clearly upset about what happened and it brought up memories of Aarons death. But here comes Laurance. He starts by telling her he understands his sacrifice and then says "actually, I take it back, I really don't understand". And then goes on to ask her why she cared so much about him, and why she even cared about his death, and what was her relationship to him. This was 3 weeks after his death and he was traveling with them a really long time. Even if Aaron and Aphmau weren't a thing, I'm sure she would still be mourning his loss like this. Another thing Laurance says is that he has been there for her while she's been building her village, but this is the first time we've seen him in a while because he has been off trying to ignore "the calling". Laurance was being insensitive but he was also somewhat in the right because he deserves answers. He didnt know about her and Aarons relationship and was still pining over her and she let him. She could have told him about their relationship before Aaron died, but she kept it to herself. They were both in the wrong in this situation. She kept her and Aarons relationship a secret, and he was asking her insensitive questions and telling her Aaron wasn't important and to just move on. (saying all of this as laurance enjoyer, i love this man but y'all sometimes he does really stupid stuff). But even before this he was starting to get defensive, for example, when Aphmau was worried about Aaron and Vylad when she couldn't find them after O'khasis was invaded. He was so angry with her for being worried about them. He starts getting super protective after that and is jealous of every guy she worries about. It's just really .... weird. He kinds of treats her like an object which is really gross. And no one wants to talk about it cause they're all on the "lets shit on Aaron" bus. Especially people who are fans of laurance or people who just really hate Aaron.

What type of MCD Aaron fan are you? An Aarmau Aaron fan or a He Had Great Potential Until Aarmau?

oooooooo lordy is my answer complicated to that one

in short: he had great potential until aarmau

buckle up cause here comes the long version

from a story telling point, aaron had certain characterisation that was cringe at best and unbearable at worst (mainly referring to the "broken human" thing here) but what I always liked was how he formed connections with others and how at his core he had a "protect those deserving of protection, show kindness to everyone" mentality

he didnt speak or even make an effort, simply decided that those people were better to be with than to live the rest of his life alone - this is the character i loved most

from a storytelling point i can understand why aarmau quote on quote worked in canon, though i never fully agreed with it because it not only ruined aarons haracter but also took away from aphmaus

to me aarmau never really had any romantic underlining and instead resembled a mentor-mentee connection, and thats why it surprised and disappointed me when they decided to take it down the path of romance

now after aarons death in season 2 we dont find out anything more about him (other than the letter which is uhm... w e l l . . . there really is not a nice way to phrase it; was the shows attempt at salvaging/making aarmau plausible) and even after in season 3 he barely has any appearances, and the rare appearances he is given just further deteorite his character and centralise his love for aphmau as a core motive

So in conclusion; i understand why aarmau is canon and can sympathise with it to a certain degree, but i would prefer if it didnt turn romantic and instead allowed the characters to help grow and learn from one another

Let’s do a personal favorite I’ve had since I watched those stupid blocks live

Garroth’s betrayal was beyond out of character. Like yeah sure he’s in love with Aph but also? Her kissing Laurance and Laurance breaking bro code wouldn’t make him betray Phoenix Drop. He was loyal to PD long before Aph was even in the picture. SPEAKING OF LOYALTY! That’s his fatal flaw. We see it in moments like when Zenix attacked PD and he didn’t try to kill him. His fatal flaw is NOT Aphmau. That would be Laurance’s fatal flaw, which once again we see time and time again in moments such as him murdering an entire pack of werewolves

Personally I think when he was approached by Zane, he should’ve reached out o Aphmau to try and plan some sort of ambush, only for her to tell him to go along with it. Have it be her icarus moment. She pushes and pushes until everything goes to shit and Garroth sacrifices himself to get her out of the mess she had a hand in creating.

HONESTLY. 4 REAL. So much of aphmau's writing is just "these men love her & thats it" . It could be SO MUCH MORE INTERESTING... if she was good at writing & didnt have the main focus be men being attracted 2 her LOL

Okay so in my diaries s3 rewrite, there's this scene where the gang has to sneak into this party pretending to be these meifwa royals or something from tu'la to get information about the king. Laurence and Katelyn have to bust out the old Michi spell and get thrown into fancy clothes and they break into the party.

Their cover gets blown not because they were stupid or because Laurence and Kate can't act, no they get caught because garroth snuck into okhasis to find out some stuff about the romeave relic, got caught and Laurence and Katelyn had to save his ass

imma jump around to the numbers that made me go OHHHHHHHH so not every one will be answered but theyre also SUPER fun questions

1. honestly i dont think laurence wouldve made it to the end of the series. i think that if they didnt write him out, he wouldve died protecting aphmau in some way. or the opposite, i could see them trying to turn him full villian and make him snap under the pressure and try to hurt someone and get killed in the process

2. i... honestly dont know. i would LIKE to say so because itd be very, VERY interesting and would open up a ton of questions and a lot of lore exploration. but leona being a werewolf throws me off so i couldnt tell you

3. i think irene was human. i think she was a good person doing bad things and but i dont think she was justified, necessarily

5. i think they were humans who had powers who slowly morphed into gods. i think itd be very interesting if they slowly lost their humanity as they succumbed to their divinity

9. i think it was the shittiest of shit ideas to ever come out of a brainhole. i think it wouldve been cool to see some things from mcd (like the tu'la region, elves *cough zoey*, and more magic stuff aside from lucinda) without turning into a high fantasy medieval rp. keep the universe seperate and acknowledge the other

13. am i basic if say i wanted to see the love triangle play out and aphmau actually choose between garroth or laurence instead of making them throw an incel tantrum over feeling entitled over a woman who is more than capable of making her own fucking decison.

aside from that, if the love triangle played out with garmau i wouldve loved to see laurcinda. because flirty hoe x flirty hoe is a thing i think about at least 20 times a day

15. tense is the only word to describe garroth and zanes relationship. an eldest brother given a kingdom he doesnt want paired with a younger brother that wants so desperately to appease the whims of his father. and vylad and zane i feel like they dont have a relationship at all

the brothers were all very close growing up. however zane and garroth grew distant for the reason above. however they both kept a close relationship with vylad and vylads "death" was the straw that broke the camels back with their relationship

16. i think garte slowly depreciating over time and thats why he grew cruel and cold and violent. he was expanding so his sons could have the best opportunities (or to find a cure? idk) and he dies alone because his coldness made everyone turn away (or die in zanes case)

18. theyre so... eye twitchingly annoying. ESPECIALLY travis and garroth's. garroth went from a smart, loyal, quiet guard with a bit of a goofy side to a bumbling dumbfuck who breaks doors (large simplification. i dont hate mystreet garroth hes a silly, silly guy but still) and TRAVIS OH MY LORD TRAVIS. he went from a standoffish person who awkwardly flirts because he doesnt know how to talk to people to a disgusting womanizer in the highest degree

20. as much i would love a continuation of the main series, ive made peace with the death of it. and the rewrites are much better than the main series. it holds a special place in my heart but you cant write over a page already filled with ink

• kc’s reason for being there is that she wants to see aarmau happen. that’s it. that’s the reason. What is it with jess and giving characters shitty motives

• why is Zane so open to bringing kc they’ve only been talking for a few months I think. The way I see him he has a difficult time making friends

• why is Zane written so...idk how to explain he’s so much more open and receptive even after s4. Shouldn’t the trauma make him more closed off? I know that if affects different people differently but would it really make him more open and talkative

• WHY IS ALL OF KC’S CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT ONLY COMING NOW? And why is it conveniently right before zane~chan? I feel like this cheapens it because she isn’t even telling it for herself at this point it’s just so she can get with Zane. why does she tell her name to Zane, whom she’s known for only a few months, instead of Aphmau or katelyn whom she’s known SINCE HIGHSCHOOL and has shared a house with??

By contrast zane~chan takes fifteen episodes to get together and only two episodes after that to have their first major fight. ya what is the pacing here

• why is Zane so receptive to making out in public even after everything that happened in s4? this is coming from the guy who couldn’t handle even one kiss from kim (being possessed by ghost) in s4. which was also not ok by any means that was assault. He should be more averse to it not the other way around. am I the only one who feels this way?

• I didn’t like how they got together. it doesnt sit right with me. idk why

• why is Katelyn so...calm? Is that the word? Either way it’s very different to how she was shown before

• what are the werewolves doing here. Why is every werewolf so conveniently on starlight. isn’t it supposed to be for the rich and famous? What kind of jobs do they work??

• I really don’t like how Aphmau treats Aaron like some kind of pet, throwing tennis balls and making him fetch them etc. same with mei’wa. Why are they made to fetch things like pets

• why is werewolf racism (is that how you say it?) something that is only introduced now?

• Katelyn is prejudiced against Aaron being a werewolf because werewolves beat up kacey YO WHAT IS THIS REASONING IT HAPPENED YEARS AGO AND THATS NOT AN EXAMPLE OF HOW EVERY WEREWOLF WOULD BEHAVE

Episode 7 Time

Ugh I kinda hate that Aphmaus doin her little youtuber intro in front of every episode in these earlier ones bc its like. how the fuck am I supposed to work that shit into the start of literally anything else much less a more conventionally told story

Idk she walks around town n runs into Kiki and her lil hamster party

Something about Kikis design just really irks me and Im pretty sure its her oversaturated darkish pink shirt, even more so when its combined with that bright red hair and big bright red heart on her chest. When I redesign her I'll probably replace it with a more earthy pink tone

The exchange between Kiki n Aphmau can stay the way it is mostly, I'll definitely have to tweak it though and completely rework that last paragraph so it doesnt sound like an obvious explanation of a game/mod mechanic

Zenix is also nearby saying "What strange adorable creatures" which is cute, I think I'd like it a lil bit more if he was maybe also petting/holding a hamster while saying that

She has some fun w/ a hamster in the enclosure, Im kinda hesitant on giving her a pet like that ngl, but I feel like a hamster is a bit less of a 'deal' than her dog so yea, I'll see what I'll do

If she keeps the hamster, she'll drop him off at her house (or maybe in the chicken enclosure idk) and then walk around town talking to everyone, if she gives it back to Kiki she just goes to talk to everyone in town right away

While shes doing that, she runs into Paul ofc and they have the same lil exchange that they have in the OG

Once shes done w/ all of that she goes over to the beach to start building that boat where she meets Brenden, who just finished the docks and is Exhausted. He says the thing about the docks being done AGAIN while wheezing and panting a bunch, Aphmau tells him he did a good job like in the OG and Brendon just thanks her without mentioning poop, thank god

Then she also goes to talk to Garroth, their exchange is also mostly the same except Im changing the line "I'm having an item delivered here for the boat" to smth like "I/Zenix and I have had something built for the boat, we should get it tomorrow" bc I feel like they kinda mentioned that the village is cut off from all the other villages but then they didnt fully realize that that would make things like this difficult yknow?? (or me and whoever wrote this just have a different definition of "cut off" lol)

Aphmau starts trying to build the boat, maybe Brendon offers to help once hes rested properly bc he seems to know a lil more than Aphmau. At this point we should probably do another small timeskip and show the boat being built via montage equivalent or by just showing small snippets and interaction. I'd also like to get Paul and Kiki on board (ha) bc they also know about what happened and they need all the help they can get

I'd also like Garroth and Zenix to help a lil or at least offer some emotional support. Like, I dont remember Zenix at all and I do know that most of the big moments for Garroth n Aphmau come later but some small cute interactions before that could be nice

Okay nvm I watched further ahead in the episode and what she ended up building was more of a raft or smth which could probabls be built by a single person in like 2 days if they had some skill and patience lol. Im keeping those previous points though bc I like the idea of this being a bit of a bonding moment despite it all (and I'd kinda like Aphmau to be a pretty skilled builder in my version idk why)

ok so before i start this

1) ive never posted shiiiit on tumblr before so watch me suffer, im just here to talk about stuff that my friends who dont know anything about aphmau have to listen to me rant about for hours on end

2) i havent seen mystreet in like years (except season 3, i watch that frequently since im laurance and shadow knight deprived) so please bear with me because i might be completely wrong on this lol. it’s just like, pointing out things i remember

3) im sure someones already talked about this but who cares

4) im gonna do this stupid thing where i just explain myself a bit at first, if you dont want to read that just skip to the part where you see “the actual thingy:” in bold and italics 

5) mild disclaimer; i am completely aware that jessica is not a professional writer. i know that she did her best to appeal to her fans, and honestly, respect for that. while this post will come off as aggressive and probably look like hate, that’s not my intention in the slightest. it’s just... intense criticism. im sure y’all probably already know that, but yeah, just stating that anyways. i do believe that jess is doing her best, and in no way do i want to dismiss any hard work she’s done. that being said; prepare for a very strongly opinionated post.

one of the main reasons i stopped watching aphmau back in 2017 was the mess that was season 4. like, in the first few episodes of the emerald secret, i thought “woah!! this is kinda cool, im a sucker for mystery!” because of course i was, it was something new and something exciting. the only problem i had with it at the time was kim, but that’s just because i always found her annoying and out of place. i just didn’t understand why garroth dragged her along and honestly i still don’t to this day BUT, moving on.

anyways, as the season progressed, 13 year old me was of course just “:0!!” the entire time--that is, up until the reveal of the main villain. i remember watching the episode, seeing the reveal of ein, and then stopping. like, just for a quick break, but i was still just overwhelmingly disappointed. like, and this was the time when pdh was airing and ein just got made alpha (i think?) and i had really really liked eins character in pdh. either way, that really sucked and actually opened my eyes to a lot of things.

one of the main things bein’ the fact that this was supposed to be a slice of life kinda series that decided to take a turn to a more edgy kinda approach. which, i guess i regularly wouldnt mind? but seeing as mcd was kinda bein neglected at the time it just didnt sit right with me. BUT WHATEVER, point is i stopped watching mystreet all together at the end of season 4.

like, a whole year later my brother tells me that shit’s getting intense in season 5 + 6 of mystreet, and my brilliant self decided to give it a shot--but i refused to watch all of season 5, so i only stepped in when ein made an appearance. so whenever that was, that’s where i picked up because i didnt care enough to see 

and y’know--i honestly didn’t hate it at first. in fact, i found it oddly cool. it wasn’t enough to get me into aphmau again, but it was enough to where i was intrigued. i dont know why, but i never watched the finale, so i didnt see the ending until just a few weeks ago--but back then, i thought it was neat. looking back on it however... im just so confused. 

side note: only got back into aphmau this time around because of mcd. mainly because like, i adore the first season and the first half of the second season. and being nearly 18 now, im a lot more appreciative of plot and well-written characters n junk.

ok back on track. imma stop spilling out my story of how i got back into aphmau, and lets just skip to what rewatching mcd made me realize of season 6′s plot and shit:

-emmalyn. how the fuck does ghost even remotely exist? if she’s emmalyn as claimed, then why have we already seen emmalyn in the mystreet universe alive? look i get that creators can do whatever they want with their stories but at the same time please provide some sort of explanation good god. and maybe they did and i just havent seen it, so if there is one--let me know. but until that day imma just sit here confused as fuck

-ok so imma just be real, the whole ‘ultima’ thing is just... not great. in my opinion, anyways. like... i saw someone mention this in another post, but if this ultima stuff was like, a really big deal, why isnt it mentioned in mcd? though i suppose since its a curse of sorts, it could be later on past the time period in which mcd takes place--but even then, how did it manage to make its way into aaron’s family bloodline? 

-WHY IS EVERYONE AT STARLIGHT ITS JUST SO CONVINIENT like what happened to this place being the most expensive shit on the planet or whatever, and how the gang happens to run into like, the werewolf trio and blaze and kai and guy and nate all of these people like god damn life doesnt WORK LIKE THAT 

-im sorry but turning people into relics? thats... thats the best you could come up with? plus, like, how does that even work? in mcd it’s established that relics are separate entitles that choose their wielder, based on a ‘personal’ connection (being a descendent of a previous wielder) or if they’re a good match personality and (i think?) moral wise. so the whole turning-people-into-relics doesnt make much sense to be honest. 

-irene really over here using her god powers to only keep her friends alive like god damn not a great god if you ask me 

-can i talk about how incredibly predictable aphmaus death was? like i just kinda sat there waiting for it to happen and when it did i literally went “haha! wonder when she’ll be revived” because god forbid we actually kill off characters 

-when aphmau + demon warlock fought in the irene dimension there was no passage of time whatsoever in the real world whiiiiiiiiich really bothers me because they fought in there for at least a few minutes

-speaking of aphmau and the demon warlocks fight does it bother anyone else that it had to be aaron who took over the fight?? like we get it hes the big protector blah blah blah but god damn it wouldve been cooler if aphmau had fought this battle as her. aaron fighting this battle was so underwhelming

-...love. like, thats the only thing thats needed to break out of a forever potion? love? LIKE YEAH, GOOD GUYS GOTTA WIN SOMEHOW, but its just so cliche and overdoneeee

-oh yeah and also when travis went bonkers and became the demon warlock or whatever, why’d he only take over katelyn and garroth?? like, zane had been influenced by the potions in the past as well? DONT GET ME WRONG--i do love some good brother edge, but uh, the demon warlock was just bein kinda a dumbass by not possessing zane too just sayin’

-can aaron please go to fucking jail for mass murder now like holy shit, he just got sent home on a fuckin boat. also why did blaze forgive him for killing him thats not even remotely realistic. then again, nothing in mystreet has ever been realistic when it comes to characters and motives and personalities, (cough katelyn being actually abusive and travis being an actual pervert) but yknow whatever

-katelyn and kawaii chan literally added nothing to the plot whatsoever. like lets be real, katelyn lost her personality the moment season 5 started and kawaii chan just kinda sits there :I

-ok im sorry this was bound to come up but cmon guys imagine laurances potential if he was in season 6 like god damn this is beyond maddening. AND YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A REALLY REALLY COOL PARRALLEL?? IF IT WAS LAURANCE WHO SNAPPED GARROTH OUT OF HIS MIND CONTROL THING, because it would mimic laurance’s speech to get garroth to snap out of his rage in season 1, episode 100 of minecraft diaries. like how fuckin rad would that have been? missed opportunity 

-also?? why does kim/ghost know magicks?? like, if i remember correctly, emmalyn is a scholar--not someone who knew magicks. i mean, i guess research? study?? but its been established that knowing how magicks works =/= being able to use magicks. i dunno, just doesnt seem right i guess. maybe its explained, i wouldnt know (yes i know that makes me look like a dick leave me alone)

-melissa should have stayed dead. LIKE, NO, ITS NOT AS SIMPLE AS “haha it takes more than a few bullets to kill me”??? look ive got nothing wrong with melissa (cough lie cough) but yknow it would have just been cool a character... stay dead? for once? its just too fuckin cliche that shes alive god damn

-can i also just say the only good thing that came out of season 6 was travis’ dads sacrifice like damn that made me actually sad

-howww was lucinda turned into a relic. or yknow, anyone else? like im sure they explain it better in the actual show i just dont remember, but its just that easy? turning anyone into a relic? granted, a normal person wouldnt be able to produce a good relic, but idk man. IM JUST SAYING; that the only really powerful relics that aphmau should have been able to wield is the one that aaron + zane produced because shad relic and esmund relic moment. lucinda isnt even like, connected to a divine warrior. ALSO, another point, if its seriously that powerful of a relic getting one from just a magic user like lucinda, why go through the trouble? i mean i guess ofc youd want the “all powerful” one that the ultima produces but i mean damn whats the point

-ok this is just going to bother me but in one of the episodes (i think might have been in season 5 actually) where that like, guardian dude was chasing aphmau and zane and at one point they split up and the dude just chuckles at zane diverting paths and goes under his breath “youre not the important one here”, suggesting that aphmau somehow is? first of all, id argue that any ro’meave is significantly more important than aphmau was, especially not knowing much about her other than that shes with aaron. i might be missing some bits an pieces, but if i was that dude id forget about aphmau and go after zane 

-killing off derek for shock factor sucked, and i know the moment was supposed to be really sad because like “oh :( aarons dad is sacrificing himself for his son” but lets be real dereks still was a shitty father and i dont think his reasons for doing what he did was very good at all

-less about plot or more like: why the absolute fuck did the gang bring kim along instead of, oh i dont know, a life-long friend? like, laurance or dante maybe?? im sure its explained, i never saw aphmaus year or most of season 5, but god DAMN id hate to be apart of this friend group AND GOD LIKE, imagine reconnecting with an old friend who ends up getting closer to your best friends and taking priority in their lives over you (cough laurance) like god damn lol

-im just going to preface this one with: i dont remember everything that’s happened, so if im wrong i apologize in advance--but (you actually can correct me if im wrong and please do) didnt like, irene reincarnate her friends in order to give them better lives? I DONT KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE, ITS JUST WHAT I REMEMBER--however, if im correct, then:

a. why the hell would she bring back someone like zane, or gene, or ivy, etc.

b. why the hell do they all have the same exact names? first and last? again, im aware that the whole mystreet+mcd tie wasn’t originally supposed to be there, but i dont think that means such a coincidence can be excused? its just a bit much if you ask me.

c. why the hell is the fact that (as much as i literally hate this) aaron is a decedent of shad being ignored? like, you’d think that something like this would be something thats actually important, or something the demon warlock couldve taken advantage of. or are we completely erasing every other connections to divine warriors besides aphmau + irene? because even if irene did reincarnate them or do whatever it is she did, does she even have the power to sever the connections between them and their ancestors? my guess is, no.

d. speaking of irene why on earth was aphmau able to talk to/see irene, they’re literally the same person are they not? did she like, fuckin reincarnate herself without actually doing it?? BUT--i will give it to them, the demon warlock did refer to aphmau as something along the lines of being “one of the 3 parts of her broken soul” or something like that. however, my point still remains. also what are the other two did i miss that or is it never explained

now; if irene in fact did not ‘reincarnate’ her friends then please ignore that little bit right there :)

but yes, those are a few of the problems i have with season 6 off the top of my head. i would go into like, season 4 and 5 more as well, but i honestly didnt feel like it. at some point i might go into other things, like how important laurance could have been to the plot of these later seasons, or HELL, even dante. i might also go into what could have made season 4, 5, and 6 actually good--maybe... a rewrite? perhaps? but im getting too far ahead of myself, so i just leave you with this for now.

and i know that as soon as i post this 15 more things are just going to pop into my head BUT im going to try and not edit this post because why stress myself with that even more

okay hot take sorta not a hot take but aaron in any form is almost completely unacceptable. same for aphmau. like seriously, mcd aphmau is somewhat acceptable cause she has some sort of flaw, while mystreet aphmau’s only characterization with a flaw is that she’s clumsy and eats a lot. aaron on the other hand, the only series i actually like him in is mermaid tales. mcd aaron was just there for the conflict and drama it seems like, and mystreet/pdh aaron is just “RR big strong man must protect feeble woman from other man”

mcd aaron is solely there to add drama and.. i can sorta see why aphmau was like “that one. i want that one” because he didnt BREATHE DOWN HER NECK ABOUT HOW MUCH HE LIKED HER (that’s one of my only qualms with laurance and garroths characters) (but he also was kind of knight-in-shining-armor-but-make-him-a-badboy type beat?)

mystreet aaron sucks cause he’s just a mary sue. he’s literally the epitome of the term (i mean, so is aphmau-). he’s a tearjerker of a character at some points, and you can very clearly tell he’s traumatized from being the ultima and his shitty parents (especially his dad), and i feel for him but it could have been executed in a way that he didn’t just seem constantly edgy about it. aaron is portrayed as an inherently edgy character, dying like what? 2, 3, maybe even 4 times? and personally, i see aaron as just genderbent aphmau with a few tweaks here and there. aaron dying is seen as a huge thing, but when he dies 3. bloody. times. it gets repetitive and loses its shock value, like if you’re going to kill off a character for shock value, kill them off at the beginning and have them come back near the end. dont kill the character in episode one and have them come back episode 3 unless you have a very limited amount of episodes, and even then you could kill them off in the 1st episode, dedicate the episodes between the first and last episodes to solving the killing.  anyways, this has been my ramble/ted talk.
