ooh okay i want to pitch a couple ideas, scraping from the text!! these aren’t mutually exclusive but

- cogita dislikes and mistrusts volo, implying with vague disapproval that he spends his time doing Other Things instead of his job. she also knows a lot about ancient history and magic, and her cottage has a witchy aesthetic. maybe volo came to her at some point and inquired about god-summoning or appeasing rituals, trying to connect through their shared celestican heritage. said ritual could be something you’re referring to, like blood sacrifice, that cogita could know volo has at least attempted, maybe even attempted herself at some point. given that the celestica people are associated with immortality, and cogita herself is implied to be immortal and very melancholy about her state of existence, it would make sense for her to act the way she does around volo whether or not she knows about giratina. she might just think he’s trying to become immortal too (which to be fair, he is, just not like her). but the ritual actions she associates with celestican immortality might also have proven useful in volo’s “courtship” of giratina, whether through crafting or sacrifice or prayer

- the plates. this is a simple one but that line might have just meant that volo brought the (at first) compliant player physically to the temple, with the plates that he had instructed them to gather, basically doordashing them to giratina for their evil plan

- volo is coping, like in the internet slang sense of the word. he’s super mad that he’s failed and been humbled by two gods and a random fifteen year old, and so he insists that he somehow had power over or provided power to giratina to save face

- volo manipulated a god. it’s clear through volo’s manipulation of the player character that he emphasizes the injustice of situations that have harmed his allies in order to earn their loyalty and favor. the way he delivers his speech about giratina’s ousting by arceus is very similar to the way he speaks of the galaxy team kicking out the player, and obviously also about himself and arceus (can’t be a volo analysis if projection isn’t mentioned at least once). the schroedinger’s characterization of volo is whether we can consider this strategic empathy as legitimate attempts to make connection and show care, even if it’s subconscious and he himself would say it’s all for the plan, or if he is only feigning his passionate disdain for injustice. if he’s capable of so deeply feeling and caring about these injustices, can he truly be considered heartless? given his reasons for doing what he does once he’s taken off the mask, i tend to believe that there’s more to his manipulation than just, like, heartless villainy. he doesn’t say “i’ve pretended to be your friend so i can hurt you and destroy the world,” he says “i’ve pretended to be your friend so i can subjugate your godly patron, who has caused us and the entire world pain, and make a better world.” obviously he’s insane and wants to meet those ends through means of erasing reality and also hurting our feelings, but those ARE his ends. maybe giratina sees that complexity and insanity, and it further endears volo to it—or simply makes volo seem easier to manipulate in turn. or maybe giratina just likes what volo is selling. this also explains why volo is not visibly heartbroken when they separate, because he actively tries not to admit that he has any friends or connections. again there are definitely parallels to be made between giratina and the player, the way volo just walks away after the fight when the player looks so sad to see him go, and only gives any sort of goodbye through laventon. maybe giratina would have liked to find closure with volo—and i mean, maybe it did, and we just didn’t see that interaction—and it could have even been the impetus for volo leaving. i think that is implied to happen, right, since a section of volo’s parting sentiment regarded giratina’s new motivations in siding with the player?

basically, what i mean is that “the power” that volo feeds giratina could be a lie or manipulation that volo has intentionally or unintentionally convinced giratina he’s providing. the power of friendship, leveraged. could come with a physical manifestation—an object or ritual—or simply be something that is promised or felt. as mentioned before, i think the most endearing question re: volo’s overall character is whether we can consider that leveraged friendship to be friendship all the same. pla is in a lot of ways a game about belonging, and both volo and giratina (and the player!) try to handle their lack of belonging in vastly different ways. volo by isolating himself and trying to wipe the slate clean, ignoring the friendships and bonds he’s made along the way; the banished god giratina, by decisively siding with not one but two (!!!) humans throughout the course of the game; and the player, by trying to become a member of the foreign community that they’ve been dropped into, even as that community mistreats them. with volo and giratina, it’s like we have two characters who are telling each other and themselves that they are giving each other what they Want, all while the companionship they share is the thing they actually Need. and they both lose it, because volo can’t handle failure and dips. dude, his character is so sad. what did they put in this game. i’m going insane

we need to talk more about how insane it is that volo and giratina partnered up tbh. like we’ve seen pokémon villains making use of legendaries for their schemes before but it is usually not like. a friendly or even consensual relationship. but like those two were homies. bona fide partners in crime for a while

i NEED to know who or what volo is, that he could give the legendary pokémon giratina more power than it already had itself, to convince it to do something it’s evidently wanted to do for a while. what could he possibly have to offer. maybe giratina was always capable of doing all that but volo just convinced it to finally act on its desire? like hey you don’t have to go alone i’ll be your buddy? there is no way all giratina was after was friendship or whatever bc specifically what does it mean that volo ‘fed it power’. just who are the celestica. -i genuinely debate wandering off to go explore and do something more interesting like shiny hunt but i dont want to let the kids get straight up killed when im supposed to be watching them because im not sure i believe in the power of their pikachu and eevee to protect them from any actual threats here. Like an alpha

-we do not battle volo because were about to fight kleavor and we need all the strength we can get for it. Im sad because i want to see togepi but i do not say this because it would be insane for me to just know what pokemon he has without being told

-drifblim does everything in its power to draw the brunt of kleavors fire. It’ll fire off gusts to whip up dirt and do its weird teleportation bullshit so that kleavor cant hit it but will be frustrated enough to keep pursuing

-skylark, shellos and iridas glaceon will lay down support fire for drifblim in case kleavor loses interest or if kleavor knocks it out. If it stays irritated its less likely to notice me and irida

-irida and i will throw balms while the pokemon fight

-shellos says shes not sure she’ll be able to keep up with the fight since she moves so slowly. This is a good point

-she cant sit on skylarks back because shes not a ground type so her firing off electricity will hit shellos.

-drifblim cant take non-ghosts with him when he phases

-glaceon agrees to carry shellos. I am flooded with relief at the fact that i dont have to carry a slug on my head while doing all this shit

-i remember that irida might not know that i can understand pokemon . dont worry about it irida we can talk later

-i also remember the kleavor cheese strat and bring up the idea of ducking behind the tree if kleavor tries to go for us

-irida is unsure if kleavor will remember the importance of the giant tree in his rage, but he hasnt cut it down yet, so its possible he will avoid slicing straight through it to get to us and instead go around

-we will just have to hope so!

-lets pretend drifblim is lvl 25 here since we start with stronger pokemon so it has mystical fire which i think is neutral against kleavor bc of rock subtype

-i think the security corps uniform is probably thick for warmth and extra defense so maybe i just get like a really bad scratch on an arm or shoulder but not enough to be a super big deal

-drifblim is knocked out during the battle by a stone axe sorry drifblim i love you

-shellos actually pulling its weight with water pulse and mud bomb

-skylark would know thunderbolt at lvl 25 which is awesome. I forgot that eeveelutions have abysmal move pools except for literally 1 move they can use reliably we’re gonna have to do something about that

-glaceon launches literally 1 ice beam and then realizes it is also so ungodly fucked if it gets hit by a rock move so it focuses on dodging while shellos launches water pulses

Due to Pokémon Legends: Arceus hitting its one year anniversary recently, I wanted to talk about my character and the story I made up for him, Nikelos.

This is long so it's going under the cut:

Intro

First off a few notes for things I chose to do that doesn't really relate to his story: I named him Nikelos to make it sound like an old version of the name Nicholas. I don't remember how I got to Nikelos tho XD. In my Pearl playthrough I named the main character Nick, in the remake I decided to go with the longer version of the name, Nicholas. When it came naming my team, I used Latin versions of words since was set in the far past. It felt fitting. On my main team I have.

Hisui Samurott - Novacula (Nova for short) - Latin for razor

Luxray - Scintilla - spark

Staraptor - Acuti - sharp

Infernape - Carbones - charcoal

Torterra - Arbor - tree

Nikelos's story

Of course we all know what happens during the game, but this will be about his story before the game. Nikelos was born with red colored eyes. He was quickly treated as some kind of monster just because of this small thing. He was put up for adoption and was never adopted. He was able to go to a school, but was treated horribly by his peers. He was made fun of, punched, and some even used their pokemon to attack him. This is how he took so quick to Hisui and its more feral pokemon. He hated his life there. He wanted to escape and he was just counting the days until his 18th birthday to escape this town. The town he lived in was a small, somewhat isolated town. It's in pretty bad condition and life there isn't too great for any of its residents. They turned a blind eye to those picking on Nikelos, they all thought he deserved it. One night Nikelos saw a light outside through one of the orphanage's window. He opens the rickety window and sneaks outside. He's done this many times before, so he's gotten good at not waking anyone up. He heads closer to the shine; he now stands under it. It's not the brightest. It seems to fall down on top of him. He closes his eyes as everything goes bright. When he opened them he stood face to face with an unfamiliar pokemon... Arceus.

Miscellaneous

Nikelos sees Hisui as basically his first and only home. He doesn't want to go back to his time.

Also he is Nick's (Pearl protag) ancestor, which is fun!

His name was the one he was give at birth, he actually liked it and decided to keep it.

Because of his name he got into looking into old languages which is how he was able to name all his pokemon Latin nams.

He wore blue-grey contacts, but when he ended up in Hisui, he quickly ran out of the liquid solution used to keep his contacts from drying out, so he couldn't wear them for long. People actually accepted him, even with his red eyes. Even though people were suspicious at the time, he truly felt even remotely accepted.

He was also picked on for his long hair. He started to tuck it into a hat, until he ended up in Hisui

Lord of the Woods (3/?)

Day 13

Alright, today’s the day! Time to get to the Grandtree.

My pathfinding yesterday was definitely helpful, and I made it across the dam no problem. The alpha Bibarel on the other side was a bit of a bother—I still hate Water Pulse—but was easy enough to wear down and catch. It was nice seeing some new Pokémon and having some tree cover, but soon enough I made my way up the steps to foot of the Grandtree.

Lian’s a bit of a strange kid, but I like him well enough. He cares a great deal both for Kleavor and for the Goomy he attacked me with to test me. After that he was happy to explain the situation and his usual solution…which isn’t working at the moment.

Irida also stopped by and explained a bit more about what the importance of Kleavor is. Seeing that I had a bit more information and also questions, I figured the best thing to do was check in with the professor. He, of course, wanted to do some research, and we set off back to town.

He sent me a way for a bit while he’s thinking and will send Rei to fetch me when he’s ready to discuss.

Well that’s my day shot. Guess we’ll head back to the fieldlands tomorrow.

Legends Arceus: Silver Phantoms AU - Character Interactions

Alright, the initial post got way more interaction than I was expecting (mostly thanks to @cell113 , thanks for all the new brainstorm worms :3) so I give you a list of the major character and ideas of potential roles in the story/meet the Phantom family! (With the exception of Rei because we pretty much already know how that goes) Here we go...

The Wardens (by area)

Mai and Lian - These two probably are the closest to the Phantom Family, mostly because they just kinda mind their own business and are pretty chill. Plus the Fieldlands are the safest of all the areas in Hisui, so the Phantom Family find themselves hanging out the Heartwood a lot since it's a good distance from Jubilife to not draw attention. Lian sits and watches Kleavor and Mai just wanders around with Munchlax and Wyrdeer. Emmet and Ingo were worried about the prospect of someone as young as Lian being a Warden, but they also know from first-hand experience that Kleavor is actually very good with kids (Kleavor helped watch over Akari and find warm shelter for her way back when she was sick). So they knew Lian would be in good hands. They occasionally leave cool stones and rocks that they've found on their travels, which Lian absolutely adores. Mai mostly knows the Phantom Family through Munchlax, cause that little shit LOVES to wander off, and usually runs into Akari. Mai admires how easily the Silver Phantoms are attuned to nature and how they were able to win over the favor of all the Nobles and a lot of wild Pokemon. A lot of times, while she's wandering, she finds herself talking out loud, mostly because she can sense when one of the Phantoms is nearby (kinda). She talks about random things, and if one of them is there, they simply just listen, and maybe sometimes they'll respond.

Calaba and Arezu - Calaba was initially VERY suspicious of the Phantoms, even thinking it was just some elaborate trick by the Diamond Clan. But then she sees a silver figure giving a poisoned Ursaluna some medicine. Then she spots two twin figures stopping bandits from stealing part of the stone tablet from the temple. Then she sees her Bibarel happily playing with the smaller silver figure and other Pokémon. After that, she started to see what the other clan members saw in them. Arezu on the other hand got a special encounter. She tripped and sprained her ankle pretty bad when running from some wild Pokemon; said Pokemon almost got her, but out of the fog, two figures in black and white along with two strange Pokemon scared the wild ones off. Her memory is kinda fuzzy after that, but she's told that she was brought back to the Diamond Settlement and left on the ground, her ankle bandaged. Arezu next spotted the Phantoms when she was tending to Lilligant, this time it was Akari, who was dancing with the Lady Noble. While Arezu still works as a hairdresser in Jubilife, it is kinda difficult sometimes, since she's surrounded by people who fear the Silver Phantoms rather than like them, as the clans do. She tries to sway their opinion by telling her story and others from the Diamond Clan; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Palina and Iscan - These two encountered the Phantom Family during a tragedy; when the previous Lord Arcanine was swallowed by the sea. Iscan rescued Palina on Basculegion but she had lost sight of the Lord’s pup as an outbreak of angry Tentacruel were wreaking havoc. Suddenly misty figures atop an Alpha Walrein and Alpha Empoleon appeared in the choppy waters, carrying the traumatized and soaked Growlithe and defeating and driving off the Tentacruel with almost no effort. They had tried to save the Lord Arcanine, but knowing he wasn’t going to make it, passed his pup to the Phantoms to save it. They vanished before Palina could thank them. Iscan, of course, is petrified of them, thinking they’re actual ghosts, and Akari thinks it’s kinda funny. She loves hearing the other ghost Pokémon chatter about how fun it is to scare the guy in good fun and she and her uncles try to slowly get Iscan to not be afraid of them, by leaving him small gifts or messages (it doesn't always work). On the anniversary of the previous Lord’s death, Pallina leaves an offering for the Phantom Family to express thanks for saving the heir’s life. Speaking of, the little Growlithe becomes inspired by the Silver Phantoms, and after taking the appropriate amount of time to grieve his father, works very hard to become the next Lord.

Melli and ??? - I put question marks next to Melli cause we don't know who Sneasler's warden was before Ingo lol, so I'm thinking either Sneasler just kinda considers Ingo and Emmet her unofficial ones, or we make a new character for the job. I mean Barry never got a Legends ancestor, he could be the one for the job (plus his interactions with Melli would be gold). Anyway, Melli does NOT like them; mostly because Akari and Emmet love playing little harmless pranks on him because making him mad is funny. Melli calls them the Silver Pests. In fact, Melli kinda shirks his duties more often than not because he doesn’t want to get berry juice dumped on his head again. However, he doesn’t hate them, because while they play pranks on him, Akari sometimes helps out with Lord Electrode (she loves just…laying on top of him and chilling). Like, say Melli forgot what food to get Electrode; he’ll go to the arena and find a pile of crunchy salt waiting for him (and of course, he’ll say HE found that salt if anyone asks). Ingo leaves Melli alone for the most part but he DOES undo all his efforts to make travelers’ lives hard. Like if Melli takes down all the torches, Ingo’s there ten minutes later putting them all back up again. No matter how many times he tries, his work is always undone at some point in time.

Gaeric and Sabi - Sabi probably holds the record for most sightings of the Silver Phantoms, mostly due to her flying on Braviary all the time. Sabi loooooves playing hide-and-seek with the Phantoms on foggy days or on very snowy days. Sure, she could easily seek them out on clear days and probably find them easily and tell the rest of the clan what she knows, but it's way more fun when she doesn't know who or what she's dealing with. Plus her clairvoyance told her that the Silver Phantoms were here to bring good, and Braviary approves of them, so that's all she needs. As a result, the Phantom Family trusts her greatly, knowing for a fact that she won't out them to anyone. Gaeric was definitely wary of them at first, mostly because he caught a glimpse of Ingo, Emmet, and Akari with Lord Avalugg, casually resting on his back and Avalugg being totally fine with it. Not just anyone can win over Avalugg that easily; are these Phantoms even human?? However, even he's quickly won over, thanks to all the help the Phantoms provide regarding the kids. Being the strongest and the best climber, Gaeric is the go-to for when children get lost in the icy mountains, and more times than not, Gaeric finds the missing children unharmed, thanks to the Silver Phantoms. Someone who goes out of their way to help those in need definitely can't be dangerous, strange hold over Pokemon or no.

Other Main Characters

Professor Laventon - I mentioned earlier, Laventon is the only person Rei trusts with his secret friendship. Laventon finds out about this due to Rei’s Pokédex. The boy was barely making any progress and suddenly his Pokédex is bursting with new notes almost every day! Something is up. Laventon confronts Rei about it and even jokes that the Silver Phantoms are possessing him (as a Professor he doesn’t believe most of the stories about the Phantoms, he just thinks they’re Pokémon having fun with people) but when Rei freezes and avoids his gaze, that’s when Laventon gets concerned. Rei eventually relents and promises to explain everything the next time they go out surveying. Once they do, Rei tells Laventon that they have leave the camp (I think Laventon does leave every now and then, there’s no way he’s not helping research Pokemon, he’s just not very good at it). Rei takes Laventon to the place where the usually meets Akari and makes sure to call out initially to give her a heads up ‘Hey, I brought a friend this time, I hope that’s okay, he won’t hurt you!’ It takes a minute, but Akari slowly reveals herself, staying crouched and ready to run if need be. Laventon’s first thought is Concern. One of the Silver Phantoms is a child?? That’s so dangerous! And his second thought is confusion; this is a supposed Silver Phantom? This is what Kamado keeps ranting and raving about?? Rei tells Laventon to be gentle and the Professor slowly coaxes Akari out of hiding because let’s be real, the man practically oozes kindness and approachability. Once she’s comfortable around him, Laventon asks plenty of questions about Pokémon and herself, because her experiences out here are unlike anything any human has ever seen and leave him more satisfied with knowledge than he's ever felt. After eventually meeting Ingo and Emmet as well, he swears to them that he will do his best to look after and keep Akari safe, the same way he does Rei, especially from Kamado, which earns him approval from the two right away.

Adaman - He was likely just made the clan leader once the stories of the Silver Phantoms started popping up. At first, he thought people were just being dramatic, but when he caught a glimpse of them near Lady Lilligant’s arena during a day of dense fog and saw them vanish in the blink of an eye, his curiosity was piqued. He then made the mistake of asking the Galaxy Team what they knew about them and all he got was a bunch of fear-mongering, the exact opposite of what his clan said about them. Adaman has a pretty good feeling that his clans' stories are the truthful ones because the Galaxy Team's whole mood shift whenever the Silver Phantoms are brought up (particularly Kamado) doesn't sit right with him. He ends up doing the unthinkable and consulting Irida for more information, which he gets a plethora of, and the next time he's out in the fog or a storm, he calls out to them, saying he appreciates all they do for his people. The next morning, a small bundle of berries and edibles is outside his hut. He takes that as the equivalent of a blessing from the Silver Phantoms.

Irida - Irida wasn’t yet made clan leader when the Silver Phantoms first appeared. However, she always found them fascinating. The way Nobles and Alphas seemed to respect them and how other wild Pokémon follow them and help them in battle even though they aren’t ‘theirs’. She almost always indulges her Wardens when they spot the Silver Phantoms to learn more about them, even going as far as to seek out Diamond Clan members and Wardens to hear their tales and encounters with them. Basically, Irida is a big Silver Phantom supporter, having basically memorized all the good things they have done for her clan and even the opposing clans. It ends up being one of the things that bring the two clans a bit closer together; if we can't agree on which Almighty Sinnoh is the true one, at least we can agree that the Silver Phantoms are great. Irida was the one who eventually allowed the construction of a little shrine to the Silver Phantoms, which gets her a bundle of berries and edibles at her door just like Adaman.

Kamado/Beni - I’m putting these two together because they’re obviously going to be the biggest problems in the main plot (plus Beni is basically Kamado’s extension/right hand). Now Kamado and Beni see the Silver Phantoms as very dangerous threats. They don’t know if they’re people, Pokemon, or something in the middle, but regardless, they’re unknown entities and that makes them threats. Plus they’re super friendly with all the terrifying Pokémon, so that doesn’t help either. At one point in time, Kamado or Beni spotted Ingo or Emmet retreating and ordered an attack. They weren’t sure if it hit…until they followed the trail and found blood. This was a huge victory for Kamado; if these Phantoms can be hurt, that means they can be conquered or even…eliminated. (Meanwhile, poor Ingo is bleeding from a Gallade’s Psycho Cut to the back and Akari and Emmet are frantically fixing him) This also means that he and Beni are out in the field a lot more than usual, mostly when they get a potential big lead on where the Silver Phantoms are hiding. It’s happened quite a bit, to the point where Akari has nightmares of that black armor and that white ninja outfit. Just about every outing to catch the Silver Phantoms ends in failure; they just have too many Pokemon at their disposal. While this angers Kamado greatly, he also takes the opportunity to learn from each failure; he takes a mental note of everything the Phantoms did to escape and begins compiling it all together into data he can use against them. (Laventon sarcastically remarks behind his back that he should put that energy into studying Pokemon for the Pokedex) Perhaps soon he'll have a completely fool-proof plan to take down the Silver Phantoms for good...

Cyllene - She’s probably the only other Galaxy Team member that doesn’t see the Phantoms as a threat. Remember, she’s also in charge of assessing Pokédex progress and thanks to Akari, Rei’s is coming along wonderfully. She sees them as an asset that they could use on their side. In fact, early on, when Kamado is discussing another doomed to fail plan to eliminate the Silver Phantoms, she speaks up and suggests that capturing them would be more beneficial, as they could provide answers about the space-time incidents around them, especially since they seem to hold the key to quelling the frenzied Nobles. Killing them would just be a waste. Plus, the clans like them, even revere them a bit, so that’s not worth risking their relationship. It’s not ideal, but she doesn’t want the Galaxy Team to be responsible for taking lives that could potentially be innocent. She also has her suspicions that Rei knows more than he's letting on, but she chooses not to press, as she knows how easily the topic of the Silver Phantoms can rile their Commander. Because of this, Ingo, Emmet, and Akari don't really know about her, or anyone else in the Galaxy Corps besides Rei and Laventon, but her name has probably come up once or twice in conversation with the two.

Volo - Now this is a hard one since, unlike the main game, he doesn’t have instant access to Akari, who he’s interested in because she fell from the sky and is very likely Arceus’ Chosen. But on the other hand, the Silver Phantoms are almost like a myth themselves, supposedly falling from the sky and all, which is right up Volo’s alley. So he does what he does best; asks around, explores a bit, and slowly builds up his knowledge of them. He even catches glimpses of them a couple times, mostly Akari, and dares to call after them saying things like how he would love to meet them and that he means no harm. Akari is almost tempted to make contact but Uncle Emmet puts his foot down. Yeah; ironically, it’s EMMET who doesn’t trust Volo. He just sees him, watches him talk, and just turns to Ingo and says ‘We’re keeping Akari FAR AWAY from that man.’ And his reasoning? His smile. ‘I know smiles, Ingo, that guy’s smile? It’s not right.’ He may not have his memories but the man has worked a Subway for years, his muscle memory knows how to recognize the shady ones and Volo is checking all the red flags. Ingo kinda thinks that’s ridiculous but he reasons that the Gingko Guild DOES directly interact with Jubilife Village and the Survey Corps and could reveal their location. So sure, we’ll keep our distance. Unfortunately, Volo does inevitability set his sights on Akari when he sees her holding one of the plates (I like to think Akari has a stronger connection with the Nobles compared to Emmet and Ingo, so maybe when their frenzy is quelled by either Akari herself or with help from Rei and her Uncles, they entrust their plates to her…who has no idea what to do with them and just piles them up in a corner at home). Volo then probably overheard Rei talking about her plate collection and starts getting desperate as Akari refuses to appear to him, so where does he go? Kamado of course; he’ll help them draw out the Phantoms, but in exchange, Volo gets the kid and Kamado gets the other two. And he happens to have just the thing that could draw Akari out; the Spooky Plate, the only plate she’s missing. All he has to do is convince Rei to introduce him to her under the guise that he found this plate and wants to give it to her. And once they've got Akari out and pinned...Emmet and Ingo will come running... (this could happen either during or shortly before the sky turns red)

Cogita - She's honestly just sitting back and watching the show. I feel like she's one of the few who kinda knows what's going down with the legendary Pokemon. So when she hears of these Phantoms, she probably suspects that one of them is Arceus' chosen like Volo does so she sits and waits for them to come to her if they need to. That doesn't mean she hasn't run into them; one or all of them have probably stumbled into her home once or twice. She doesn't say or do anything, she just stares at them until they leave (which catches the trio off-guard at first because most humans react when they see them), but Cogita sometimes leaves things out for them. (Probably the Pixie Plate for Akari at some point) And sometimes she leaves them some tea because sometimes you just need to sit down and relax with some good tea.

Pearl Clan:

Gaeric: With his ace Glalie, Glalie somehow feels like this is his fault. He’s watching Gaeric loose his limbs, which he very much needs , just drop one right after the other. He’s turning into a Glalie, like him, so what did Glalie do? Was it because of something he did? It’s just a lot of Glalie thinking this is somehow his fault and trying to take care of Gaeric.

Lian: His poor Goomy has no idea what’s going on. I picture it as go seeing Lian as his litter mate/brother so after Kleavor took Lian to his parents, goomy is just staying right next to him. He’s trying everything to comfort him. At one point his goomy tries to bring an Alpha Goodra, who is goomy’ a mother or father to the Pearl settlement to try and help Lian… That wasn’t Goomy’s best idea to be honest 😬

Ingo: His Gliscor is a chittering mess! Gliscor is worried, not because Lady Sneasler is slowly avoiding Ingo, but that fact that his transformations hurt! Gliscor does try his best to help with the transition though.

Palina: her Growlithe is just like lord Arcanine. He doesn’t know what is happening and just knows his mom is in pain. Luckily the newly evolved Arcanine is helping take care of Palina.

Calaba: Ursaluna is like a grumpy but persistent care taker. He trust’s Bibarel to take care Calaba, but most times he can be found outside her tent just keeping watch. Keeping watch for what though? Not even Ursaluna knows honestly, he just knows he needs to protect his warden.

Again these are my interpretations and not canon. If you want something canon you might wanna ask @monsoon-of-art! This is their AU! Also I didn’t touch the Diamond clan because I am still working on that part of the series and don’t wanna inadvertently spoil the story!

actually some thoughts on pla from a repeat playthrough:

i need more fanfic of the melli + lian dynamic. i just love how melli is so willing and eager to throw down with a ten-year-old.

also melli is much funnier than i realised. initially i was annoyed by him. but honestly? he's the kind of character who you wouldn't want to know irl but is amazing to watch in fiction.

volo is the funniest fucking character when you know his true nature.

also: right before the origin fight, i sent palkia out to say hi to volo, and it roared at him. i cannot imagine the level of OH SHIT he must have experienced at that moment.

sneasler is a much better pokemon when animated. standing still it's meh. but i love the battle and convo animations.

i love how adaman and irida still hate each other by the end. they put their religious differences aside and work together for the sake of their people, as good leaders should. but they still can't fucking stand each other.

meanwhile, irida is apparently bffs with adaman's big sister

imo, irida and palina probably made up after the heatran incident. palina just had to get one in there.

also... the situation with the growlithe is interesting. bc irida has been pushed hard from a young age to be a leader, so obviously she figured it was fine to do that to growlithe, not realising that it was a very different situation.

iscan is a Wife Guy and he's not even married

most modern pokemon games: it's really easy to overlevel. this pokemon game: it's really easy to UNDERlevel.

it took me far too long to realise that ingo's role in-game is STILL as a battle facility head

kamado holds the same position in the game's narrative structure as an evil team boss. volo holds the same position as a champion. interesting......

slip traps: I imagine that they could/probably are modified to catch things like Bidoof or Swinub. (Bidoof are more accidental they chew though the log and then it snaps. Swinub are probably rooting around for bait, causing the log to spin. stantler also might work, but i imagine it has to be a massive trap for them. And if it is that big, you're running a huge risk of unwanted catches, or injuring a smaller pokemon. Pokemon does cartoon physics, so I imagine they're usually fine.)

I do like to think that the kids handle traps to catch smaller Pokémon. This way, they can help with catching without putting themselves in danger. These traps can catch bidoof and swinub as you said, as well as basculin. But perhaps Stantler might be too big. Hunting parties led by adults might step in with that. (Because if traps exist in the Pokémon world like this, I’m sure hunting does too)

Traps could catch:

Bidoof, buneary, burmy, wormadam, snover, swinub and maybe gible?

While hunting parties could go after:

Bibarel, lopunny, anomasnow, piloswine, Stantler, and maybe even gabite, or the massive alpha Garchomp and Mamoswine?

I like to think they don’t go after sneasel because one of their clan’s blessed Pokémon is a sneasler, and same reason for bergmite.

I heard that there are those that abso-casketting-lutely LOVE alpha Pokemons in PLA! Well ME TOO!

Watch me enter a territory filled with the same kinds of Pokemon and DASHED right into the alpha because I know, so know, I'm in their territory and then just goes "oh my Sinnoh, big electric kitty!!" or "come and get me momma bear!"

I only manage to catch alpha Bibarel (still underleveled to fight the lv40+ alphas) and I love 'em, look at my big beaver boi taking care of my lil' beaver bois, they're so cute and I can't wait to catch other alphas (and in imagination hugging those big babies, so I'm making my OC do that). Watch me catch the alpha Zoroarks and hugging those FLOOFS.

when I was trying to catch some buneary and a little wurmple just came up to me and. sat there next to me. Just chilling with me. It was a lovely moment.

When I was trying to avoid being killed by an alpha bibarel and ended up drowning as a result, that still makes me chuckle.

The fact it has given me the opportunity to shout “CHOY MY BOY, I’VE GOT YOUR CRAP AND I NEED A SHIT”

Also not really legends-exclusive thing, but I ended up naming that alpha Kriketune from the beginning Siren Head because have you heard that thing’s cry???

Inazuma Evolved while trekking through the Mirelands.  Happy me!  Someone with the power to beat things up.  I also caught two Alphas...a Bibarel and a Kricketune.  Wanted a Floatzel that has been giving me trouble (and because I’m annoyed trying to get the 2′8′‘ Buizel for a quest), but it still decimates me.

Having so much fun, I’m not sure if I want to go forward in the story or explore the Crimson Mirelands more from the second Base Camp I just made.
