Okay how about Harry x Luna with...decorating for Christmas!
Quick note: this is set within my fix-it AU, where Harry’s parents are alive, and he has a younger brother.
Harry was livid. It wasn’t exactly an unfamiliar feeling—his mood could swing to “unexplainable rage” at the drop of a hat these days. It seemed to always bubble at a low simmer below the surface, waiting to boil over at the slightest provocation.
That day’s culprit was his dad, who, despite having spent every waking moment at the Ministry these past few weeks, was being uncharacteristically tight-lipped on how the search for the escapees from Azkaban was going, dodging Harry’s every question with a practiced ease that he usually only reserved for evading questions about birthday surprises. Harry had somehow managed not to explode at him, but the same couldn’t be said of Walburga Black’s wall sconce, which suddenly shattered and rained glass all over the sitting room’s sofa.
His dad hadn’t said a word—his gaze looked from the broken glass to Harry, an unspoken apology in his worried eyes. Harry had looked away, still too angry to speak, and left the room before he blew up anything else.
He strode through the hallways, ignoring the more cheery voices coming from the different parts of 12 Grimmauld Place. He didn’t want to hear any of it. Outside. He needed to be outside. He quickly made his way towards the front door—
—and nearly plowed over Luna Lovegood in the entry hall.
He stumbled, grabbing her by the shoulders to steady her, as well as himself. “Whoa! Luna. Hi,” he said breathlessly.
Luna, for her part, didn’t look the least bit bothered by almost being run over by a lanky fifteen-year-old. “Hello, Harry,” she said brightly.
Harry, suddenly realizing he was still holding her shoulders, quickly dropped his arms. “Um. Hi,” he repeated stupidly. Why did he say that? “Sorry about that. Didn’t see you there.”
“That’s alright,” Luna said. Harry noticed, looking down at her, that she seemed to have colored her eyelashes—the set on her right eye red, her left eye green. What was that…mascara? He wasn’t sure. “People don’t see me when I’m right in front of them all the time,” Luna was saying. “But most of them don’t apologize for it.” She smiled. “That was very nice of you.”
“Um….right,” Harry said uncertainly. He was never quite sure if Luna was completely unaware of when people were rude to her, or if she just consciously decided to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Luna studied him. “Are you alright, Harry?” she asked. “You look a little pinched. Right—“ she pointed between Harry’s eyebrows, nearly touching his forehead “—there. And here.” She tapped each of his shoulders.
Harry quickly smoothed his features, realizing he was still carrying his frustration with his dad. He hadn’t even realized he was tensing his shoulders. He relaxed them. “Yeah, I’m okay. Thanks, Luna. What are you doing here?” he asked.
“Ginny invited me for Christmas,” Luna explained. “It’s usually just me and Dad, you know…I haven’t spent Christmas with other people since my mum died.” She suddenly looked a little anxious. “Is that alright?”
“Yeah, it’s great!” Harry said, surprised by how genuinely he meant it. “My mum and Mrs. Weasley are making a huge Christmas dinner, you’ll love it. And you can try out the twins’ enchanted poppers they’ve been working on, and you can meet my uncles—well, you’ve met one of them, my Uncle Remus—and you can help us figure out if my Uncle Sirius’ secret girlfriend is real.” He was babbling. Why was he babbling? Luna didn’t look the least bit perturbed, but Harry still felt like an idiot. Just to change the subject, Harry looked down at the bag Luna was holding. “What’s that?” he asked.
“Oh, I brought decorations,” Luna explained, holding open the bag. Inside, Harry saw crocheted garlands—none of them Christmas-colored, like Harry expected, but all of them cool blues and purples and pinks. They had strange objects woven into them that Harry couldn’t identify—beads? Nuts? He wasn’t sure. Regardless of their oddity, they still were pretty, in a way.
“They’re not just to look pretty,” Luna said. “An old house like this is bound to be filled with all sorts of things. These ward off—“
“—nargles?” Harry asked.
“Wrackspurts,” Luna said seriously.
The thought of Luna hanging up wrackspurt-preventative garlands in Walburga Black’s austere parlor suddenly made Harry laugh in a way he didn’t realize he needed—oh, that portrait was going to have a fit over this.
Luna looked at him curiously. “You think they’re funny?”
“No, no, I don’t,” Harry assured her. “I think they’re brilliant.”
They held each other’s gaze then—for a bit too long. Harry felt very strange. She was nice, Luna. Very nice.
Harry cleared his throat. “Um, I think Ginny’s down that way,” he said awkwardly, pointing towards the parlor door.
“Alright. Thank you, Harry.” With a vague smile, Luna floated down the hall and into the parlor.
Harry watched her go, and realized he had a vague smile of his own to match hers. He felt very odd, and oddest of all, he could barely recall what he’d been so angry with his dad about. Yeah…very odd.
A loud clearing of the throat broke Harry from his reverie, and he looked over to see Monty leaning against the front door, arms crossed, with the most annoying of amused expressions on his face. He realized stupidly that he must’ve been the one to let Luna inside in the first place. And had been standing there the whole time.
His brother was clearly trying desperately not to laugh. “What was that?” he asked innocently.
“Nothing,” Harry said too quickly.
Monty raised an eyebrow.
“Shut up,” Harry snapped.

Thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it! (and the fact you're linking all your other metas)
I like how you explained it and it really makes sense. I actually can picture it now! I think it would be really interesting to see how impacted the muggleborns were back then. Maybe they were refused job because of their blood and overall felt insecure-- after all, we never know since Lily ended up being a full time Order's member.
I gotta says though, there are some dates I do not agree with in your timeline, if I may? Here's what Moody said concerning the Order's picture:
“There’s me,” said Moody unnecessarily, pointing at himself. The Moody in the picture was unmistakable, though his hair was slightly less gray and his nose was intact. “And there’s Dumbledore beside me, Dedalus Diggle on the other side … That’s Marlene McKinnon, she was killed two weeks after this was taken, they got her whole family. That’s Frank and Alice Longbottom —”
And in Lily's letter, she wrote to Sirius that she cried all evening after learning what happened to the McKinnons. It was wrote late July/early August 1981 since it was for Harry 1st birthday, so Marlene would have been killed in July and that's why I am assuming the picture was taken in 1981.
Also, I started to think that the prophecy was made around January/February 1980 because of this post (which would work with the idea that he made interviews during winter break), and that the Fidelius Charm was performed only in October 1981 because of this quote:
“Not many people are aware that the Potters knew You-Know-Who was after them. Dumbledore, who was of course working tirelessly against You-Know-Who, had a number of useful spies. One of them tipped him off, and he alerted James and Lily at once. He advised them to go into hiding. Well, of course, You-Know- Who wasn’t an easy person to hide from. Dumbledore told them that their best chance was the Fidelius Charm." […] “He did,” said Fudge heavily. “And then, barely a week after the Fidelius Charm had been performed— ”
which would work with my idea that Severus only warned Albus in October 1981, and not before-- and therefore Peter being a spy for one year but not snitching on the Potters would make sense. Voldemort hadn't make his decision yet.
And it made me wonder when Dumbledore actually told the Potters about the prophecy. Did he even tell them everything? There are actually no informations about the Longbottoms hiding too, only the fact they were possible target so I wonder if they knew about it.
Also, one point I like to think about is the fact Lily and James were in the picture in June/July 1981 (possibly), but in Lily's letter she talks about James getting frustrated staying home. Were they still going to the Order's meeting but not doing missions for the Order? Or did they keep low only after the picture was taken? I know in interviews JK talked about the Potters hiding either before Harry's birth or during his christening, and I know people always assume it's because of the prophecy but what if it was simply because they knew they were possible target even without it?
I really have been thinking greatly about the First Wizardin War lately sorry 😭
Your welcome, and no problem, I love talking about this!
Referring to this post.
Regarding the Fidelius, I remember Fudge saying that, but Fudge has no reason to know when the charm was cast. Winter of 1980, makes sense for the prophecy, Considering the prophecy says:
“...THE ONE WITH THE POWER TO VANQUISH THE DARK LORD WILL BE BORN AS THE SEVENTH MONTH DIES. . . .”
(OotP)
It talks about the future. The child will be born, not born yet. Also, the Prophecy was made at least two months before Harry was born:
“My name?” said Harry blankly. He stepped forward. Not as tall as Ron, he had to crane his neck to read the yellowish label affixed to the shelf right beneath the dusty glass ball. In spidery writing was written a date of some sixteen years previously
(OotP)
“I did,” said Dumbledore. “On a cold, wet night sixteen years ago, in a room above the bar at the Hog’s Head Inn
(OotP)
This is in May 1996, so Harry is two months before his 16th birthday, meaning the prophecy was made at least 2 months before he was born. Possibly in the winter of 1980, but not after Harry's birth.
And, it seems bizarre to not hide the Potters immediately after the prophecy is made. Especially since the Order knew there was a spy in their midst since mid-1980:
YOU’D BEEN PASSING INFORMATION TO HIM FOR A YEAR BEFORE LILY AND JAMES DIED!
(PoA)
Add to that the fact the Fidelius broke upon James and Lily's death, which implies Harry was not included in the phrasing of the spell, and it indicates the Fidelius was cast before Harry was born and that Fudge has no clue what he's talking about (which is pretty in character, all in all).
It always seemed to me Dumbledore hid the Potters before Snape told him about Voldemort and that he heard the prophecy. Fudge just knows the version of events the ministry was given, not necessarily the true version.
“The—the prophecy. . . the prediction. . . Trelawney. . . ” “Ah, yes,” said Dumbledore. “How much did you relay to Lord Voldemort?” “Everything—everything I heard!” said Snape. “That is why—it is for that reason—he thinks it means Lily Evans!” “The prophecy did not refer to a woman,” said Dumbledore. “It spoke of a boy born at the end of July—” “You know what I mean! He thinks it means her son, he is going to hunt her down—kill them all—” “If she means so much to you,” said Dumbledore, “surely Lord Voldemort will spare her? Could you not ask for mercy for the mother, in exchange for the son?” “I have—I have asked him—” “You disgust me,” said Dumbledore, and Harry had never heard so much contempt in his voice. Snape seemed to shrink a little, “You do not care, then, about the deaths of her husband and child? They can die, as long as you have what you want?” Snape said nothing, but merely looked up at Dumbledore. “Hide them all, then,” he croaked. “Keep her—them—safe. Please.” “And what will you give me in return, Severus?” “In—in return?” Snape gaped at Dumbledore, and Harry expected him to protest, but after a long moment he said, “Anything.”
(DH)
Dumbledore isn't surprised by anything Snape is telling him. It's all expected, he knew all of it already, so I think he already had the Potters in hiding before this conversation. He knew it was Lily and James' son, Snape is even calling him out on his bullshit here. Dumbledore acts like he knew and already took the precautions he felt were needed. Snape goes and promises him anything in exchange for something Dumbledore was already doing.
And I think he didn't tell James and Lily the full prophecy. If he did, I don't think James would've been as antsy to leave all the time. Like, if he felt a strong enough duty to stay for Harry and Lily, I think he would have. Which, to me suggests he didn't know all the details. But alas, I don't know for certain, it's just speculation on my part how much James and Lily knew. I believe it was very little, along the lines of: "There is reason to believe Voldemort would try to target Harry due to certain intel he has," maybe they knew there was a prophecy but not the full contents of it.
The photo of the order and the dates super annoy me. Becouse like, if the photo was taken in the summer of 1981 it means the entire Order was practically wiped out in 4 months. Which is kinda insane and doesn't make much sense.
But, if it indeed was taken in June/July of 1981, it means it was taken after the Potters were already in hiding due to everything I wrote above. It means the Potters left Harry with Batgilda Bagshot or something to meet the Order and take this picture, which, again, doesn't make sense. God, I hate JKR's timeliness sometimes.
Yes, this is nonsensical, but it seems like, indeed, James and Lily left their hiding spot to take a picture and the whole Order died in the last 4 months of the war, painting them as way more incompetent than I usually paint them as.
But if James and Lily really didn't know how grave the danger was and didn't have all the details, and James felt confident enough to leave them under the invisibility cloak multiple times, it's possible they did go to meet the Order while in hiding on a few occasions. This would lull James and Lily even more into a false sense of security. If they were used to seeing the Order it explains James leaving often-ish, and neither of them having their wands on them when Voldemort arrives. They didn't really think they were in danger for all their months in hiding.

no bcs i think dumbles was a trash headmaster and i would've had him stepping down from the headmaster position OR solely focusing in that bcs i feel like he was biting more than he could chew (then again the british educational system has always sucked and nobody gave a fuck about kids so can i? entirely blame him? not truly), BUT blame him for everything???? EVERYTHING???? people are sick. or too young. and need to read more.
yeah i realllg don't understand how people truly believe that Dumbledore is the root to all evil. I swear people are more mad at him for certain characters deaths more then they are at fucking Voldemort.
The thing with Dumbledore is that he's morally grey. He's not the perfect mentor that we're led to believe he is but that doesn't make him a full blown villain. He is not responsible for every bad thing that's happened in the series
and it's SO ANNOYING cause it's taking away everything that made these characters interesting. Like acting as if everyone in the Order was manipulated into joining takes away so much from them.
And as for the Death Eaters don't even get me started. Evan and Barty in particular died because of their own actions. They committed crimes, they were supposed to be arrested but they resisted and instead were killed. Dumbledore has literally no hand in that because he's not apart of the justice system and has never shown any signs of wanting to be
And as for the people who died during the Battle of Hogwarts blaming Dumbledore is just plain dumb. Dumbledore was literally already dead at this point and speaking of Remus and Tonks as if they were fully adults doing their job (as part of the Order and in Tonks case literally her job. It's her fucking job to fight bad wizards. It's what she gets paid for. She's a fucking auror) with the kids it's more McGonagalls fault if anything for letting the kids fight in the battle to begin with. But the fandom love McGonagall so they'd never admit it. Either way Dumbledore was already six feet under and played literally no part in the battle or had a say in who fought it (HE WAS LITERALLY DEAD)
Also while we're here let's talking about everyone else
James and Lily Dumbledore literally put in hiding to protect them "but he took the invisibility cloak" no. James gave him the cloak. We don't know why but considering James and Lily were in hiding and their lives were in the hands of their best friend Peter it's not hard to imagine that they deemed themselves safe enough to hand Dumbledore a cloak that wouldn't have fitted all three of them anyway
Cedric Diggory died because of three people and their names are Peter Pettigrew, Barty Crouch Jr and Voldemort. Maybe at best i'll give you that Dumbeldore wasn't looking into the odd things happening at Hogwarts (like Harry being chosen) enough but then you'll have to be prepared to blame every other teacher as well
Marlene, Dorcas, Pandora, Alice, Frank, and practically every other marauders era character had very little cannon information about their death but none of their deaths mention anything to do with Dumbledore. How tf is Dumbledore to blame for Pandora experimenting with spells???
Regulus is the same with Barty and Evan. That man went into the cave by himself because of something Kreacher told him about Voldemort. IF DUMBLEDORE KNEW THAT REGULUS WENT INTO THET CAVE AND KNEW ABOUT THE LOCKET THEN WHY THE FUCK WOULD HE TAKE THE LITERAL CHOSEN ONE WHO HAS TO BE KILLED BY VOLDEMORT INTO A DEATH CAVE TO GET A PHONY LOCKET??????????
As i've said I don't even like Dumbledore like that but this fandom is killing me with all of this frankly stupid nonsense and it's killing my braincells

October 23, 1981
Today was… so much. I’m not even sure where to begin. Honestly, this may just be a bit of a ramble as I try to collect my thoughts.
Dumbledore came by today. So did Sirius, Peter, Mary, and Remus. Our house hasn’t been so full since Harry’s birthday. I just wish there was a happier reason for it.
It’s this damn prophecy again. You-Know-Who knows about the prophecy. I mean, we knew that, of course, but we never really knew what that meant, or what he would do about it. Until now.
Maybe I shouldn’t be writing this down. Is it dangerous? I mean… I guess if we are going to be hiding like this, no one will see it, right?
Dumbledore told us that he was approached by a Death Eater with information about the prophecy. This Death Eater says that You-Know-Who has become obsessed with the prophecy, and he has determined who it applies to.
It's Harry. He picked Harry. He is coming for us.
James asked Dumbledore how he could possibly know that it was Harry, but Dumbledore says it doesn’t matter. You-Know-Who has picked Harry, and so it must be Harry. He will mark Harry as his own, and it is Harry. James also demanded to know who the source was, but Dumbledore wouldn't say.
I hope he’s wrong. He must be.
There’s still a chance he is... right?
Please let him be wrong.
Dumbledore says that there is a new protection spell that has been created. Someone in the Order has been working on enhanced spells, and I guess they were finally successful.
The spell is a powerful, complicated charm. Casting the charm locks a location—in this case our house—into a magical secret. The secret is then locked inside of a living person—The Secret Keeper. Once completed, the house will be hidden entirely—invisible, intangible, unplottable, and soundproof. The only way to find us is for the Secret Keeper to share our location. If they don’t share, we cannot be found. Even if You-Know-Who knows our exact address, he can’t walk into the house unless the secret is shared with him. We can be safe, though we will be locked inside.
Does it seem too good to be true?
Dumbledore explained the spell to me. It’s complicated, but I can do it. I’m the best of us at charms, aside from Dumbledore himself, so it has to be me. The only question that remains is who our Secret Keeper will be.
The Secret Keeper is supposed to be someone we trust implicitly, according to Dumbledore. Someone that we have no doubt in, who will protect our secret, who will keep us safe. They will need to go into hiding as well, and will be in great danger.
I wonder if Dumbledore knew the real reason his words made all of us shift uncomfortably in our seats, or if he just thought that we were worried about putting one of us in danger. I mean. We are worried about that too, but the question of trust hit us particularly hard.
Is Dumbledore suggesting one of our friends cannot be trusted? Does he know who the spy is?
Does he know the spy is Remus?
Dumbledore offered to be our Secret Keeper, but something feels wrong about that. I'm sure he would keep us safe, if for no other reason than Harry seems to be the impetus for the end of the war, but I think our Secret Keeper should be someone who wants to keep us safe because they love us, not what we can do for them.
After he left, the discussion was actually relatively quick. There really is no option other than Sirius. Even if we were not paranoid and doubting each other, Sirius would still be the obvious answer.
We decided to wait until Sunday the 25th to cast the charm. It gives us a few days to prepare, as best we can.
A chance to say goodbye.
Mary left first. It was a quick goodbye. More of a see you later than anything. I'll see you after this is all over. I'll see you when the storm clears. I hugged her, long and hard. My closest and dearest friend. My first real friend in the wizarding world. I hope she stays safe. She left before the tears could overtake her.
The boys dawdled a bit. Remus asked to play with Harry, and I couldn't find it in my heart to say no. He sat on the floor with Harry, playing with toys and talking to him. Remus read him a couple of books, and promised to send him more books for Christmas. He hugged Harry closely, and Harry was receptive to the hug. I was surprised, honestly. Harry is so hit or miss with hugs, especially if the alternative is playing. I wonder if he could sense something in the air. Maybe he could tell that this hug was important.
Maybe he could tell it was goodbye.
Remus handed Harry off to Sirius, who hovered nearby the entire time. Remus and Sirius didn't speak or so much as look at each other. It was like Harry was the one connection left between them, and the only acceptable conduit.
Remus came to me next, and we sat on the couch and talked. He's going on an extended mission, and he doesn't know when he will be back. Or so he says. There was something off in the way he said it. I don't know if he's not actually going on a mission, or if he is telling me so that I do not worry about him feeling excluded, or if he is just worried that we won't see him again.
Is this the last time I see Remus alive?
Is the war going to take him away for good?
Remus hugged me, then, and the contact honestly made me cry. I wish a hug could erase all the distrust between us. I wish the circle of my arms could determine if he was lying. If they could, I think if learn that he is nothing more than a scared little boy who is slowly losing his friends. Or maybe I'd learn that he really is the monster that we all fear.
Remus went to James last, and they spoke quietly. In this tiny cottage, it wasn't really quiet enough for us to avoid hearing them.
Remus told James the same thing that he told me—that he would be away for a while. Probably at least a couple cycles of the moon, he said. James asked him to be careful, to take care of himself, to come back safe. Remus smiled, and promised he would.
James tried to talk about plans for the future. Remus would miss Halloween and Sirius's birthday, but surely he would make it to Christmas, or New Years? They could have a joint party for their birthdays in March, and surely he would come to Harry's birthday next July.
Remus smiled with that small, tight, uncomfortable smile, letting James push forward into plans that Remus couldn't make. He gave noncommittals and platitudes, and James went on. The rest of us shifted uncomfortably.
Plans so far in the future are a luxury that we are no longer afforded. James knows this too, but he needs to feel like there is an end and a tomorrow. We all let him.
Finally, Remus stood, and he and James hugged. I could hear the whispered murmurs. The thank yous and I love your that growing boys may have shied away from but soldiers cannot afford to forget.
They are soldiers first, and boys second, and this is the way of war.
Finally, Remus turned and headed for the door. He looked back, as though trying to take in everything one last time. When the door snapped shut behind him, it left an emptiness in the room that I'm not sure we have the ability to fill.
Sirius and Peter left soon after, both promising to come back in the next few days. As they left, a shroud fell over the house, and for the rest of the night, no one said a word.

Imagine being Sirius’s daughter {Part Two}
Part one
Tumblr media
-Remus took you to James and Lily’s funeral, knowing that you had no idea what was happening, but he had to go..... he had to know it was real.
-He also took you to Peter’s funeral.
-On full moon nights Dumbledore would come get you from the cabin and take you to Hogwarts. He had a spare bed set up for you in the office, and you would sleep there under the window, Fawkes perched at the foot of your bed standing guard.
-When you were older some nights you would stay with Hagrid in the Hut. He loved having you around, and would teach you all about the garden, the grounds, and the magical creatures.
-You often asked Remus when your father was coming home. He didn’t tell you until you were three that Sirius wasn’t coming home for a very long time.
-The first year you lived with him, he would find himself going to bed heartbroken, exhausted from trying to be strong for your sake all day. His tears freely falling as his mind flashed back to a happier time.
-After that first year it happened far less frequently.
-Remus built you a spare room, and filled it full of the books Lily bought you from the flat, along with photographs of the past events.
-He also got your stuffed animals that represented the Marauders, and added to it a stuffed Lily. They sat on your bookshelf.
-One of the photos was of Harry and you, and when you first saw it you asked, “What happened to Harry?”
“Well, he went to live with Lily’s sister.”
“Can we go see him?”
“Unfortunately not, see Lily’s sister is a muggle, and Auntie Lily always said that her sister was not a fan of wizards. So I doubt she would find our presence welcoming.”
-One night you were sitting at the table when you asked, “Uncle Mooney, did Daddy kill Uncle Prong and Auntie Lily?”
“No my love, he didn’t. They were killed by a very bad wizard, who wanted to hurt Harry.”
“But why? Harry is just a harmless baby, right?”
“You are far smarter than your father.” Remus smiled, “You are right my love, but this wizard was scaried of Harry, and that why he attacked Uncle Prong, and Auntie Lily.” Remus sighed, before standing, “I am going to my room very quick, is your bag packed for Hogwarts?”
“Yes Mooney.” You replied with a smile, as he retreated towards the master room, and towards his bed. Crouching down he withdrew a old shoe box and pulled back the lid to reveal a stack of envelopes, each filled with parchment addressed to both you and him, your father’s handwriting filled the pages. However it was the envelope at the bottom of the stack that Remus needed to reread.
Mooney,
I have to apologize, for these last few months I have been withholding a secret from you, I thought you had turned on us. I was convinced that you had switched sides, and convinced our own friends, our brothers that you couldn’t be trusted. This assumption also lead me to make the worst decision of my life.
I convinced James and Lily to name Wormtail as their secret keeper, in fear that you had told Voldemort I was the Potter’s secret keeper, since I was their closest friend, and The Godfather of their child. James was insistent that he didn’t trust anyone more, but my desire to protect my family led me to lead them to their ultimate demise. That is why I went after Wormtail, and unfortunately he escaped. My guess is he is in some sewer somewhere as the rat that he is, cowarding away from the truth of his crimes.
I am sorry I ever doubted you, and I am sorry my decisions have now no doubt forced you into the role of fatherhood, a role I know that you have always longed for, but never felt you desired. I know Dumbledore has probably brought you my sweet [Y/N], and asked you to take her in. I know you love her as much as James, Lily, and I did, but that you are scared she will judge you once she learns of your condition. I promise you she won’t. I only ask one thing of you Remus..... don’t let her grow up thinking her father betrayed his friends, tell her the truth, tell her I love her.
My dearest brother, I love you, and I ask that you forgive me for what I have done. I will make this up to you, and when I get out, I will not only hug my daughter, but also you.
Padfoot
-Remus never told you about the letters
-The day after you returned from that trip you looked at Remus, “Uncle Mooney, can we plant lilies?”
“Of course Love.” He smiled, as you both went out to the car he had stored away in the garage, and drove to town. That afternoon you both planted Lilies in the entire flower box infront of the cabin windows, a smile on both your faces as you chattered.
Tumblr media
-Hargid loved when you visited, you were obsessed with learning about the different creatures on the grounds.
-Remus loved having you in the cabin with him, he tried as hard as he could to raise you the way he imagined Sirius would want you to be raised.
-Remus hated your traumatic threes, he remembered Lily once joking with Sirius about how you will be a rebellious two year old once you hit the terrible twos, but he was not prepared for it to hit when you were three.
-However there was no doubt in his mind you were Sirius’s child, even at a young age you and your father shared a similar sense of humor.
-When you weren’t being a rambunctious toddler, Remus enjoyed taking you for strolls in the forest, he would watch as you touched every tree, and tried to smell all the flowers. He would carry a book with him as well filled with all the different plant varieties, and whenever you found a new one, you and him would sit on the forest floor and rummage through the book until you identified the plant.
-The night after the full moons were always the hardest on Remus, he was still wide awake from sleeping all day, but Dumbledore always brought you back after the great feasts. Remus would sit with you on the couch as you raved about all the professors he had loved while in school, and then at 9:30 he would put you to bed. As soon as you would drift off though he would sit there and watch you sleep, his mind racing with all the possibilities life had to offer you. It also though was flooded with the occasional dread, for you were the daughter of Sirius Black, a man who was now marked as a traitor and a murderer, he feared this would make you the victim of relentless teasing, and isolation among your peers. But he couldn’t let that consume his thoughts as he watched your chest rise and fall.
-Remus always made you pancakes for breakfast, a lesson he learned from Lily when he went to visit her one summer before their fifth year. Her handwriting still graced the page of his journal, which he had open on the counter every time he made them, even though he had already memorized the recipe.
-Snack time always consisted of chocolate.
-He began homeschooling you when you turned 4, your favorite lessons were writing, and defense against the dark arts.
-You once asked why your father never wrote you, Remus lied and said he had no idea, even though Sirius wrote you and him letters constantly. He stored them all in the box.
-When you would go to Hogwarts McGonagall would always bring you into her classroom after lessons were over, and tell you about her days as a quidditch player, and about how your Uncle James was the best chaser she had ever seen.
-You figured out Remus was a werewolf, you were five, and while he tucked you in you let it slip that you knew. He just looked at you in disbelief, but you just smiled, “I mean it makes sense, Uncle Mooney, I mean why else would they call you that?”
“How long have you known about my.... condition?” He finally asked, disbelief still in his voice as you shrugged, “Since about a month before my fourth birthday.”
-One day you offered to stay with Remus during a full moon, however he looked at you and smiled, “No my love, I will be fine, besides I know then that you are safe, and I promised your father I would keep you safe.”
-When you were in the castle, Snape avoided you.
-Dumbledore had already guaranteed that you would be attending Hogwarts, much to Remus’s joy.
-Normally he would read to you from the thousands of books he has filled your room with, however occasionally you would look at him and ask for a story about him and the rest of your family, and with a pained smile he would reminisce about the 10 years of friendship he had.
-When you were 5 he explained to you what Azkaban was, and how that’s where your father was.
-When you turned 6 he took you to Diagon Alley for the first time, you absolutely loved it.
-You were 7 when you asked Remus, “Uncle Mooney, how did Voldemort find Uncle Prongs, and Auntie Lily?”
“What do you mean darling?”
“Well they were in hiding, he shouldn’t have been able to find them, I mean they were apart of one of the most intelligent wizarding organizations in London, and I am sure the Order would have the necessary tools to hide them. So how did he find them?”
“Only one person knew where the Potters were hidden, they were the secret keeper...”
“You mean my father?” You cut him off, as his eyes met yours, “Are you trying to tell me Daddy turned them over to...”
- Your eyes were watering, and Remus watched as your mind processed the new information. After several moments of silence you bolted from the kitchen and slammed your bedroom door.
-After a few hours Remus softly knocked on your door, “Love, can I come in?”
Your room was silent, but the door slowly opened several seconds later, and the imagine broke Remus’s heart. Your eyes were rimmed red, and bloodshot, your face flushed, and the shine of your tears reflected the cabin lights. Your fingers did a quick pass against your cheeks as you whispered, “My father would never turn on the Potters.”
“I know Love.” He lied, because even though he got letters daily from Sirius, pleading to his best friend to believe he was innocent and to give him any news of his little girl, Remus wasn’t sure if he even believed Sirius.
-That night Remus told you the story about how he first met you, and how shocked he was when James called him after speaking to his mother, who had spent the whole day helping Sirius prepare to be a father. You smiled the whole story, as you cling to the black dog plushie Lily had bought you.
-After that you both never brought the subject up again, however you always knew your father was innocent.
Tumblr media
-When you turned 8, you had basically mastered basic potions, and whenever you visited Hogwarts, insisted on showing Snape.... however he would tell Dumbledore to watch, and leave the dungeon.
-The day before you turned 9, it was a full moon, meaning you spent your ninth birthday in the castle. You desperately wished that Remus could have been there, but before you left he gave you a big hug, “I promise Love, when you get back I will have the grandest cake for you.”
“You say that every year Uncle Mooney.” You smiled before looking to Dumbledore, “You know if you two would just let me go to Olivandars you wouldn’t need to come collect me all the time.”
“Yes, and we would all get in trouble for you having a wand before you come of age, and for using magic outside of Hogwarts.” Dumbledore reminded you as you rolled your eyes at him, both smiling as the Black sas came out.
“Yes, but Dumbledore if I remember correctly you have connections within the ministry, prehaps...”
“I fear not even I would be able to save you from the punishment of those crimes, however don’t worry my dear, two more years, and you will have the wand of your dreams, and be able to practice magic at Hogwarts, just like everyone else.”
“You two are no fun.” You retorted as the two men just looked at each other and chuckled.
-That night you went to Hagrid’s hut, the lights shining on the freshly cut grass as you climbed the stairs alone. Your tiny fist pounding against the wood as you waited for the warm glow from inside to wash over you. When Hagrid opened the door however you saw he was wearing a party hat, “[Y/N]! Just the angel I wanted to see.”
“Hello Hagrid, seen any exciting creatures today?” You leaned forward and hugged the tall man, his lips curling up as he replied, “It just so happens I did, tell me [Y/N], have you ever heard of a Billywig?”
“Don’t joke like that Hagrid, Billywigs are only in Australia, and besides they are extinct.”
“I saw it in a book, see Professor Kettleburn was here showing me one of his new textbooks, and they have a whole section on those nasty little buggers.”
“Oh, I do love when he gets new textbooks.” You smiled as you noticed the small cake on the table, “Hagrid, why is there a cake on the table?”
“Well it isn’t every day that your favorite little girl turns nine.” He replied, “Baked it myself, figured you would rather a homemade chocolate cake instead of one made by the elves in the kitchen.”
-It was a small, round, pink cake, with your name written in green frosting (it looked very similar to the one he made Harry on his birthday), a huge smile on your face as you looked over to him, “I love it.”
-That night you slept on Hagrid’s couch, which had happened many times before. Fang laid on the floor in the front of the couch, your hand gently touching his fur with your finger tips, as Hagrid laid a quilted blanket over you.
-That day you sat in Dumbledore’s office, your nose in a book from the Library, your legs curled up under you as you flipped through the pages. Fawkes sitting with his eyes on you as you sat in silence, which was interrupted by a chuckle from Dumbledore.
“[Y/N], have I ever told you about the time your father played muggle music on his Walkman at top volume, and danced around the great hall when he returned from Christmas break?”
“Never.” You replied, closing the book, and looking towards the elder, for he had never really told you anything about when your father attended school, or was in the order.
“I believe the song was called Cry For Me Argentina, somehow James and him had planned out an entire choreographed dance, in which James was throwing rose petals behind your father, who was dramatically twirling down the center aisle of the Great Hall. Poor Remus and Peter trailing behind them, trying their hardest to make it look like they knew what was even going on.” Dumbledore reminisced, as you smiled.
-That’s how the rest of the night went, and at some point McGonnagall joined in, adding her own stories. “Your father is the reason I stopped using the word serious, ever time I did in class, or in the common room he would reply, They’re not serious, I am.”
-When you returned that evening to the cabin, Remus had decorated the entire cabin, streamers hung from the ceiling, as the floor was littered with balloons. The table was set, and platters were stacked high with all your favorite desserts. A bowl filled with chocolate sat on the coffee table, and in the middle of the counter space sat a chocolate cake, covered in your favorite fruit, and homemade frosting.
-He let you stay up extra late that night, both of you sat on the couch with your noses in books. Once midnight came around, you looked to Remus, and excused yourself. After hugging him and shutting your door he let out a sigh and opened the drawer to the side table, his hand pulling out a perfectly new envelope, addressed to you, and opened. His fingers slipping into the tear and extracting a piece of parchment,
My Sweet [Y/N],
Today you are nine, oh how I wish I could see you. I am sure you are just a beautiful as I was at your age, and probably just as troublesome to your Uncle Remus. Someday I hope to see you again, or hear from you, so that I can tell you just how much my heart longs for you. I can never make up for the years we have lost, I have tried to think of a way a thousand times but every solution is never enough, nothing I can ever say or do will ever make up for the fact that I am the reason they are dead, and that the real traitor is still free, probably hiding in some dumpster somewhere, as the guilt of his actions naw away at his soul, or for the fact that my best friend is now the one tucking you in at night, and reading you stories, and feeding you chocolate after 10pm, just like he did to me countless nights. You are in good, safe hands my darling [Y/N], but alas they are not the hands you belong in. I would kill for just one chance to see you again on your birthday, I can still picture in my head how you looked on your first birthday, when your Aunt Lily decorated her entire flat, and slaved away for hours on your cake. Poor Prongs had to come hid out at our place just to avoid stressing her more. I doubt you remember that, but sometimes I like to think you do still remember them, and how much they loved you. You were the star we all needed in our blanketed midnight sky, and I can only hope you are that same joyous light for Uncle Mooney, who sometimes forget there is joy in life, and that our alements don’t define us. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss you, or the little family we had.
Happy Birthday my Love,
Dad
-Remus’s eyes watered as he read the letter over and over before walking into his room and adding it to the box, his mind wandering far from the current moment in time, and back to that small flat 8 years ago, when they were all smiling with happiness on your first birthday.
-That night he chose to stay in his own room, and look through his own memory keepsakes from his time at Hogwarts, tears freely running down his face as silent sobs scratched at his throat.
-When you awoke the next morning, he had already dried his tears, and wore a smile for you, as though nothing had happened.
Tumblr media
-When you turned 11, Remus took you to Diagon Alley, and bought you everything he remembered needing his first year of Hogwarts.
-You were so excited to go to Ollivander’s, your grin was ear to ear as he stated, “No doubt you are a Black child, you have the same wildness behind your eyes as your father and uncle, let us hope however you are not as twisted as...”
“That is quite enough.” Remus interrupted, “We would like to see your finest wands please?”
-That was the first time you had ever experienced someone directly saying something negative to you because of who your father was, your heart torn as you took the first wand into your hands, “Unicorn hair core, black walnut wood, 10.5 inches.”
“Well give it a flick dear.” Remus encouraged, however at the flick of your wrist, all the wands rocketed off of the shelves.
“I’m sorry Mr. Ollivander, but I think we might need to try another.” You smiled shyly, as you placed the wand down immediately.
“I would say so, let me see if we have something more appropriate.” He forced a smile as he retreated towards the back, “Prehaps this will be more family appropriate, your grandmother had a similar one, Dragon heartstring core, black walnut, 8 inches.”
-When you gave it a flick, a small beam shot out of it, and landed on the papers, causing a small fire to overtake the top of the stack. Withdrawing his wand Remus quickly extinguished the flame, however Ollivander’s attention was on something else, and quickly he turned on his heels and made his way towards the wands scattered on the floor, mumbling to himselfbefore loudly exclaiming, “This is the one, I can feel it my dear, almost exactly as another wand I sold back in the day, it is just a 1/4 inch shorter, measuring at 10 inches, it’s made of cypress wood, and the core is unicorn hair.”
-Remus’s eyebrow raised as Ollivander named off the characteristics of his own wand, but before he could say anything you had the wand in hand, and without even a flick, it immediately started to shine, a slight breeze overtook the room as Ollivander smiled, “The wand chooses the witch Miss Black, and it seems you have far more in common with Mr. Lupin than you thought.”
-When you returned home you looked at Remus, “Thank you for today, I had a lot of fun.” You smiled
“No problem Love, however I am exhausted, so how’s about we turn in early for the night.”
“Of course Uncle Mooney.” You replied as you turned into your own room, and shut the door, leaving him to stand in the living room and wonder about the future.
-He addressed his issues to Dumbledore the next time he saw him, “You don’t think the others will bully her for her father’s crimes, do you?”
“I highly doubt any of her peers will even know the story of her father’s crimes, she will be fine Remus.”
“And what shall we do about Sirius, I mean I wouldn’t put it past him to send her a letter while she is at school. I don’t want her head filled with his lies.” Remus inquired, as he looked out the window to see you tending to the lillies.
“Sirius is no threat to her at Hogwarts, she will be safe Remus, I promise.” He reassured him as he let out a shaky breath, “I would hope so.”
“Besides she has Black blood in her, and was raised by 1 of the best tricksters in Hogwarts history, and was brought up with James Potter, she can no doubt handle herself if trouble arises.”
-You were insistent on taking the train your first year, even though Dumbledore offered to take you straight to Hogwarts, “I want to be treated as a normal student Dumbledore.”
“And so you shall.” He smiled
-Remus was secretly falling apart on the inside when he was walking you to platform 9&10, his mind filled with thoughts of all the trouble you could get into, the things you could be bullied for, but also at the sense of loss he was going to feel, the longest he had ever been away from you in the past nine years was 24 hours, and now he wasn’t going to see you again until Christmas. However all of that melted away when he saw your smile, and for a second it was like he was seeing the smile of an 11 year old Sirius Black.
-You got to 9 3/4 beautifully, Remus right behind you as you pushed your cart towards the enormous train, the platform was filled with adults and students, all trying to sort through the chaos.
-Before boarding you wrapped Remus in the tightest hug you could muster, “I’ll write you every day, and I promise I will be on my best behavior.”
“I know Love.” He whispered, as you looked up at him, a excited smile on your face, “I love you.”
“I love you too Uncle Mooney.”
-Those were the last words you said to him before boarding the train, his feet planted firmly on the platform until the train pulled away, his eyes watching as the train got smaller the further it went towards the horizon, until it was completely out of sight. A shaker breath released from his lungs, unaware he was even holding it in, as the reality of the situation set in, for the first time in a long time..... he was completely alone.
-Upon arriving home, the cabin was pitch black, and silent as the grave. His hands reached out towards the light switch, which flooded the room with a harsh yellow glow. His feet carried him straight into his room, to where his bookshelf stood. His fingers running across the spines of each book until he found the one dated for 1979, withdrawing it he looked at the cover of the photo album and retreated to your room. Once inside, he took a deep breath and was overwhelmed with the scent of you, a ping of sadness overtaking him as he sank onto your mattress, and opened the book to see the animated faces of his friends. Each page holding a memory, both before and after you entered their lives, as he relived the moments in his head. He stayed up all night looking at all the albums he had created those past 11 years.
Tumblr media
-When you boarded the train, you were looking for anywhere there was available seating, and you knocked on the glass of the first one you saw, “Mind if I sit here?”
“Not at all.” One of the two identical ginger boys exclaimed, his face was slightly rounder than the other boys, and his smile was large as you sat down across from him, “Are you a first year too?” the other asked.
“Yeah, I’m [Y/N], and you are?”
“I’m Fred, He’s George.” The rounder faced one replied
“I’m George, he’s Fred.” The other replied right after
-You spent the whole train ride joking with the twins, and found that you all had a similar sense of humor. However soon the conversation shifted, “So which house do you think you’ll be sorted into?” George asked
“Probably Hufflepuff, honestly I have a sweet tooth, and the closer to the kitchen the better.” You joked as the boys chuckled.
“Well as Weasley’s there is only one house we’lol get sorted into.” Fred replied cocky, “Our whole family has been Gryffindors.”
“Ah so you are lions.” You joked as Fred and George let out fake roars, just as the train stopped at a platform. With smiles you three rose and made your way towards the exit, and once on the platform you heard a familiar voice, “All first years come with me, everyone else make your way to the carriages.”
-“Hagrid!” You exclaimed, separating from the boys as you ran towards the half giant, who extended his arms open and caught you.
“[Y/N]!” He exclaimed, “mighty fine seeing you here, how was the ride?”
“Splendid, just like I imagined, tell me, did the elves make Yorkshire pudding tonight?”
“Course they did, it wouldn’t be the first day feast without it.” He smiled, “However your friends seem to be looking a wee bit confused.”
-When you turned around Fred and George were just looking at you, and with a smile you joked, “What, have my lions never seen a half giant before?”
“No, we are just wondering how you know each other?” Fred questioned
“Now that boys is a secret I shall never tell.” You smiled, before taking both their hands, “Now come on, we don’t want to miss the boats.”
-It was in the boat that you met Lee Jordan, and soon realized he would be joining your friend group.
-Once outside the great hall you turned towards the boys, “Now we make a promise here, no matter what house we get, we will still all be friends, no matter what.”
“Unless one of us gets Slytherin, no one in Slytherin ever turns out being a good guy.” George replied
“Even if one of us gets Slytherin.” You replied, to which the three sighed, but ultimately agreed.
-When McGonagall started calling names you smiled at the members of staff, and watched as each of your friends got sorted into Gryffindor. Finally you heard McGonagall’s voice say your name, “[Y/N] Black.”
-A hush feel over the great hall as you approached the hat, McGonagall smiled at you as you slowly took your place upon the stool, and felt the fabric of the talking hat touch your hair, before it’s voice filled your head, “Ahhhhhhh another member of the Black Family, this should be easy to sort out, I mean you’re a descendant from a long line of Slytherins. I think your father was the only oddball of the family, what you might call a black sheep.”
“Please, don’t put me in Slytherin.” You thought, your eyes closed as you thought it louder
“Oh why not, someone with your talent could excel in Slytherin, besides who doesn’t love a cunning woman with a bit of poisoned blood in her veins. I mean your father was a traitor, whose to say you won’t be the same.”
“My father was not a traitor, he was a loyal friend, and a fighter. He would never turn his back on his family, because you might say I am a descendent of Slytherin but everyone in my family were...”
“Gryffindor!” The hat screamed, as the table cheered loudly, your eyes opening as your face cracked a smile. Your feet excitingly carried you to the place beside George, as you looked toward Dumbledore, who wore a proud smile on his face as well.
-Your first week of classes was a breeze, Fred and George were baffled by the fact that you knew all of them, and were glad that you were their friend, since you were clearly the brightest witch of your year.
-You went to Dumbledore’s office once while you were free and looked at the hat sitting atop the shelf, “Are you sure you put me in the proper house?” You asked
“Of course I am, you showed true bravery standing up for your father, and loyalty. Both are vital traits of a true gryffindor.”
-You and the twins were inseparable, and within the first two weeks of school were already plotting on who to prank, and how.
-You sent a letter to Remus everyday as promised, and everyday he would send you a reply. However a month into school, you one day received two letters. The first was from Remus, but the second bore no return address.
-You waited until you were in your dorm room to open it, safely seated on your bed, you closed the curtains and tore the envelope open, withdrawing the parchment, you read the scribbles on the page,
Dear [Y/N] Euphemia Black,
Hello, it is odd to think that these are the first words you will ever be reading from me, even though I have written you a hundred times before. However knowing how stubborn your Uncle Mooney is, I doubt he has even told you that I have been writing you since they locked me away.
Where to begin, words can’t even describe how I have been feeling since they ripped me away from you, nor can anything make up for the lost years of communication we have had. Not a single day goes by where I don’t envision your beautiful [Y/E/C] eyes, or how your face looked, or remember how you used to dart around the house like a child overdosing on sugar. Truly your impact on my life has been the only thing keeping me sane in this insane asylum prison all these years. I am sorry I can’t have a similar impact on your life.
You are 11 now, meaning g you have just started the best adventure of your life, it was at Hogwarts that I met your Uncle Prongs, and Mooney, and unfortunately met Uncle Wormtail as well. I wish some days I never met that traitor, or that I wasn’t so self absorbed in my own beliefs. I was wrong to doubt your Uncle Mooney, when the real traitor was right under my nose the whole time, and I gave him the loaded gun to destroy our entire friend group, and your childhood. No child should ever have to endure what you and Harry did. How I wish I knew where he was, since I doubt that they would give Mooney both of you, and I have no idea where Auntie Lily’s family is. I just know where you are, and that you were safe in Uncle Mooney’s cabin all these years.
I would love to hear from you, written on the back is how to reach me. I have so many years to catch up on, and so little time to do so.
I love you my darling, never forget that.
Dad
-By the time you reached the end of the letter you were crying, and every time you reread his words more tears started to flow down your face. Soon your vision was blurred and the words manifested into blobs on the page, but by that point you had already memorized most of it.
-You stayed in bed the rest of the day, and once night had fallen over the castle you made your way to the common room where a very concerned set of ginger twins sat on the stair to the first year girls dormitories with Lee., who was leaning opposite them in the doorway.
When he saw you Lee looked at you with concern, causing the boys to turn and look as well. Wasting no time they jumped up and wrapped you in a tight embrace. When they pulled away Lee wrapped you in a embrace, and then they led you to one of the secluded couches. They kept asking you what was wrong and finally you broke, and told them that you just found out your pet hamster had passed away. Not wanting them to know your family secret.
-The next day you responded to your father’s letter, and started what would soon become a weekly interaction with your estranged father.
-You never told Remus or any of the professors you were in contact with your father.
-your father was so happy when he received your first letter, and cried as he read the seven pages of parchment that you sent him.
-You helped the tricksters with their assignments, and the pranks.
-McGonagall couldn’t help chuckling to Dumbledore one day, and stated, “Isn’t it funny how she has found herself her own group of tricksters?”
“It is, especially since she has become just like Remus.” Dumbledore compared to her as she groaned, “Does that make the Weasleys James and Sirius?”
“I fear it does.” Dumbledore replied
-You were at the top of the class when Christmas break came.
-Before leaving you and the boys decided to do secret Santa when you all returned from christmas break. Each of you wrote your names on a piece of parchment and put it in a hat, drawing one by one. You were the last to draw, and you had gotten Fred.
-When she went home that Christmas Remus was waiting for her anxiously on the platform, however before you were reunited with your uncle, Fred and George followed their brothers towards their family, each of your hands in one of theirs as they led you towards the other Weasleys to introduce you.
-When they heard your last name they immediately knew who your father was, and why he was in Azkaban, but later that night after Arthur expressed his concerns Molly defended you, “We can’t judge her because of her father, and besides, did you see how smitten the boys were to introduce us to their best friend.
Tumblr media
-When you saw Remus, you broke away from the twins and ran towards him, your arms snaking around his neck as he picked you up.
-You immediately introduced him to the twins. He looked at both of them and smiled, “So you are the boys my niece has told me so much about?”
-When you got home, you immediately started tell Remus about all the non secretive stuff you left out of your letters. Once you got inside though you looked at him, “Uncle Mooney, have you ever heard of the Marauders Map?”
“Why?”
“Fred and George knicked it from Flich during one of their detentions, and on the front of the parchment it states master Mooney, Padfoot, Wormtail and Prong. I only know four men whom go by those names.”
-He told you everything about the map, and you immediately wrote to the twins to tell them how to open the map. When you were done, and sent the letter off to them, you turned slightly and looked at Remus, “Uncle Mooney?”
“Yes Love?”
“Why have you been hiding my father’s letters from me?”
-He was silent, his face paling, as his hand slightly started to shake. He felt hot suddenly and lost the ability to talk, as you continued, “I want to see them please Uncle Mooney.”
-All he whispered was, “How?”
“He told me, please Remus.” His real name sounded so foreign slipping off your tongue, “I deserve to know.”
-He got the box, and sat at the dining room table, as you slid into the chair across from him. Your fingers casually slid along the lock as you opened the lid and revealed 9 years worth of unread letters. Remus’s eyes focused on the table, never lifting as you read each letter in silence, and finally you reached the first letter, where he had pleaded to his friend his innocence.
“You had all of these for years.” You whispered, “And yet you still doubt him?”
“[Y/N]...” his voice was barely audible, but the heartbreak in his tone and body language was loud, your watering eyes meeting as he took a shaky breath, “I love you.”
“Yet you knew my father was reaching out, that he is rotting away in a cell alone, and you..” your voice cracked, “you let him rot in there alone.”
-You left the table immediately, and went into your room, where you stayed for two days, until you came out to Remus asleep on the couch, the house a mess. You immediately started cleaning as you walked around, along with covered Remus with a blanket. When he awoke, you were seated on the floor facing him, his eyes bloodshot as you whispered, “I love you too.”

James comes back as a vampire 12 years after the fact (so 3rd year for harry in like december) and the law says children can't live alone with vampires so James has to marry someone by the end of the school year or harry goes back to his aunt and uncle. James starts to panic until Remus informs him that gay marriage has since been legalized, after which he proposes to Sirius, and he says yes and they're very in love and it's so cute
Hogwarts had vampire wards. James hadn't known about that. His idea had been to march right up to Dumbledore and ask what the hell he was thinking, leaving his son with two muggles that hated magic, but he couldn't get through. It's not like he'd been planning on kidnapping Harry (well, he’d considered it but decided otherwise), but he wanted to see him. It had been over a decade. The last time he'd seen his boy, he'd been a baby; he could say a handful of babbled words and run around, and that had been it.
James gave a frustrated kick to the impenetrable wall that was keeping him from seeing his son, then whirled away to find Remus. He'd already seen in the paper that Sirius was an escaped convict, which wouldn't make him easy to find. Remus, however, was very likely still in Wales, staying in his parent's old house.
He needed somebody to help him plan. There were a dozen different things that needed to be done, and he no idea how to accomplish any of it. Which he wasn't used to. Becoming a vampire had changed more than just his diet.
For the first five years, sunlight had burned him, so he couldn't leave if he wanted to. And his sire hadn't wanted for him to leave, so he'd been unable to. It was only when his sire bit off more than he could chew-- centaur, you'd think he would've known better, even if their blood was supposedly ambrosia-- that James had been able to leave the grounds. And he wasn't too sure about whether or not immortality was a myth, but he did know that his body hadn't changed appearance since his transition. He wouldn't be surprised if, sixty years from now, he dropped dead from old age and that was the end of it.
Most importantly right now though, was the fact that he couldn't think. His mind was muddled. All he could think about was how angry he was with Dumbledore for having left Harry with Lily's horrid sister and her husband. A couple that James knew for a fact hated him, and he couldn't imagine that they would be any kinder to Harry now than they'd been when he was a baby. The need to protect Harry was burning him from the inside out.
He knew that Remus was the only person he trusted that was available to help him, so he went to his house. It was empty. James gave a frustrated snarl and left just as quickly as he'd arrived. Where the hell could he be?
He walked for a long time. Long enough that the sun set and he was walking in total darkness. Perk of being a vampire was that he could still see. He'd been hoping that he wouldn't need glasses anymore, but he did. He should find sunglasses though, for when the sun came back up. It didn't burn him anymore, but it was awfully bright; he'd spent all day squinting against it.
*
As it turned out, he hadn't been able to find Remus because Moony had been at Hogwarts, teaching Defense. James had been hanging around Hogsmeade when there was a weekend out for the students, and that's how he saw Harry again. He was a little ashamed to say that he'd scared him. He hadn't meant to, but he'd sort of grabbed him away from his friends, and then he'd seen Snape and his fangs came out and... yeah, it was better not to dwell on it.
All's well that ends well, because Sirius found him that afternoon because of the commotion, and Harry had actually looked happy to see him when he had to head back inside Hogwarts for the night.
"I can't believe you're here," Sirius whispered. He was looking at James like he was a miracle.
James knew the feeling. When he'd learned that Harry had been living with the Dursley's, he'd thought that Sirius was dead. It hadn't taken long before he was in Wizarding London and saw all the Wanted posters, but a part of him had still wondered. After all, if Sirius had been alive, there would've been no reason for him to be in Azkaban, and if he had been in Azkaban, there was no reason for him to have waited so long to bust out.
He didn't understand any of it. He didn't know how things had gotten so bad so quickly. He'd been Turned, and Lily had been killed, but Sirius had been Harry's godfather, and if he hadn't been around for whatever reason, Harry should've gone to Remus! There was a line of people that Harry should've been raised by, and the Dursley's were nowhere in that line.
"What happened?" James asked instead of replying to what Sirius said. "What the hell happened?"
Sirius shook his head. He threw his arms around James and started to cry. James held him while he sobbed, and then for a long time afterwards.
Dumbledore sent him a patronus requesting a meeting, and Sirius transformed into Padfoot and made himself scarce.
James would love nothing more than to meet with Dumbledore and ask just what the hell he had been thinking for the past twelve years, but there was a little snag of he couldn't get through the bloody wards. He sent a reply saying basically that, and a minute later, Dumbledore came out to him.
Before hello's could be exchanged, James said, "How could you send Harry to live with those people?"
"With you gone, Lily and Marlene dead, and Sirius in prison, they were the only legal option," Dumbledore replied calmly.
"What about Remus?"
"Werewolves can't raise children alone, and Remus was not married."
"That's bullshit." And it must've been made into a law after him and Lily went into hiding, because it sure as hell hadn't been one when they set everything up.
"Personal feelings aside, it is the law." Dumbledore hesitated, then said, "Vampires are also unable to raise children unless they are married to a non-creature."
James paled, a cold fear sweeping through him. "What? But- Harry's my son. No one could keep him from me."
They continued talking, and Dumbledore explained the law and when it had been passed. There was all sorts of anti-creature legislation now, and it was throwing a wrench in James's half put together plans. In the course of their conversation, James was able to convince Dumbledore that Sirius was innocent. He didn't even know what Sirius had supposedly done, but he was able to convince Dumbledore of it.
*
Potter Mansion wasn't in great condition, but it was empty, and both him and Sirius could stay there. When winter break came around, Remus stayed with them as well. He wished that Harry could, but his guardianship was up in the air, and having him stay would be more like kidnapping than him spending the break with his father.
Sirius was in the process of being cleared of all charges, but since it hadn't gone through yet, he didn't have the legal right to raise Harry. Remus and James were creatures, so it's not like they'd be spontaneously allowed to raise him.
"I hate this," James said. He was sipping on blood, and Remus was nursing a cup of tea. Sirius was upstairs, sleeping. He spent a lot of his time sleeping so that he could recover faster, but it was still a slow process. By the time his name was cleared, he probably wouldn't look like a walking skeleton anymore. Skeletal or not, James still thought he was the most beautiful person he'd ever seen.
He did wish that the Ministry would hurry up. They said that it would be at least a year before Sirius would have the restrictions lifted, but it would likely take longer than that. James wasn't sure there was a rhyme or reason to the different rules, and he hated it. For instance, he was able to live on his own if he wanted, but he couldn't be the sole guardian of a child. He could travel around Great Britain, but he wasn't supposed to fly or use a portkey. One toe out of line, and Sirius could be arrested until the verdict was reached.
"Being a vampire?" Remus guessed.
"No. This whole custody mess with Harry. I can't raise him unless I get married, but who the hell am I supposed to marry? If I had a friend who was willing, it would be easy, but everyone I knew is dead. Which means I have to find some bird and convince her to marry me even though I don't love her."
Remus looked at him for a long moment.
Misinterpreting what the look meant, James said, "See? It sucks. There's no way I'm going to pull it off. Harry's going to get sent back to that sodding house where they hate him."
"James, some things have changed since you were last here."
"Don't even try to tell me that they don't hate magic, because Harry told me, and-"
"No, not that," Remus said with a small smile. "I meant that two men can get married now. It's legal."
James jerked, sitting up straight and looking at Remus with an intense focus that he hadn't been able to manage before he was a vampire. "Say again?"
"Two men can get married." You and Sirius can get married.
"You’re a genius. Is Sirius allowed to get married right now?"
Remus nodded. "I checked. I thought it was weird that you didn't already do it, but." He shrugged, and James understood. He hadn't known that he could marry another man, and Remus had thought there was a legal boundary that he hadn't been aware of, so he'd checked for them.
"Huh." James looked down into his glass of blood like it had the answers he was looking for. "How should I propose? I want it to be great. Something he can look back on and know how much I love him."
"I'm not great at romance," Remus said, scratching at his ear uncomfortably. "So erm, all I'm going to say that Sirius always knows how much you love him."
It was a nice idea, but Remus didn't know how insecure Sirius could be. It had only gotten worse since all their time apart. James understood, and he didn't begrudge Sirius for it for a second, but he also wasn't going to talk to Remus about it. Some things were personal. "Yeah. I'm sure I'll think of something. I just want it to be perfect."
"I'm sure it will be," Remus said, giving him a comforting smile.
*
"I love you so much," James said softly, brushing Sirius's hair away from his face. Not that it had been in his face very much to begin with.
Sirius smiled. It wasn't wide and overtaking his entire face; it was a small, private thing. Like if there was anyone else in the room, he would still want for James to be the only one to see it.
"I hated having to live without you for so long. I kept wanting to get out. I dreamt about getting home to find you and Harry waiting for me."
"I'm sorry it wasn't like that," Sirius said, regret and sorrow making his voice weak.
"No, that's not what I mean. I mean that thinking about you got me through it. I couldn't see the sun for so long, but when I thought about you, I didn't feel as trapped. You were my warmth. My freedom. There were times that I worried I was putting you on a pedestal. That I'd get out and find that you weren't how I remembered, but you're not. Things have changed, but you're still the person I fell in love with. You're as amazing and perfect as I thought you were when we first started dating. I never want to live without you. I want us to be a family the way we should've been this entire time. You, me, Harry, and Moony in the other room, rolling his eyes at us."
"I want that too. It sounds perfect."
"You think so?"
Sirius gave a small nod.
"I'm glad to hear you say that, because I was thinking... well, Remus told me that we can get married now. It's legal."
Sirius froze, then pushed himself up so he could look James in the eye. "This isn't a joke, right? You can't be joking about this. I need you to mean it."
"I mean it. You're everything I want. I love you. I want us to be together for the rest of our lives. I want to call you my husband. So, will you? Will you marry me?"
Sirius looked like he was about to cry, but they were happy tears this time. He opened his mouth to say something, but his breath hitched and he closed it again. He nodded.
"Yeah?" James said, a grin stealing across his face.
Sirius nodded again, and James pulled him into a tight hug.
"I love you so much." Things might've been shit when he first got here, but everything was falling into place, where it should've been from the start.

Literally screaming throughout the whole process.
“I know about Diggory, he's quite of a traitor, but his blood is pure, he won't want a filthy half-blood traitor like you with him.”

The battle has started.
You seeing Dora and running to hug her.
“MY BRAVE SISTER!” she shouts.
“Once we're outta here, we're spoiling Teddy with every inch of me.”
“I kinda approve though”
Duelling multiple death eaters.
Including Dolohov, Rookwood, Rabstan Lestrange.
Saving Malfoy's arse from the flames in the room of requirement.
Going to the shrieking shack to face Voldemort.
Snape's dead.
He's acting weird all of a sudden.
Voldemort wants Harry to meet him in the forbidden forest.
The chaos has calmed down.
You enter the great hall.
Your eyes roam around the room to find the redheads huddled together, the Diggorys, somewhat crying?
You take a closer look, seeing what they're all mourning.
You shake your head in disbelief.
Remus and Dora?
Your sister?
Your soulmate?
They just had a baby.
You felt Fred and George hug you, Hermione and Ginny hugging eachother.
You kneel down.
Your world is crushing.
They're dead but they look so peaceful.
You hugged Dora.
Ever so tightly.
The last time you'll ever hug her.
You wished you can turn the clock back, to listen to to weird sisters together, to giggle behind the Malfoys back together, to annoy your mother together.
Perhaps you could've been able to save her.
You rest your head on her chest.
Muffled voices of everyone else speaking were in the background.
But you didn't care.
You let out a cry, a small one.
You let out a slightly louder one.
You felt your chest tighten, your stomach churn, you felt your eyes twitch underneath your lids.
You heard Cedric's comforting voice.
“Shhhhhh.. I got you love”
But his words are not comforting you.
You just lay there on Dora's chest.
By that, you knew your hair will never turn pink again.
You don't know how many minutes or hours had passed by.
You heard the familiar snake-like vouce of Lord Voldemort.
“Harry Potter is dead He was killed as he ran away, trying to save himself while you lay down your lives for him. We bring you his body as proof that your hero is gone. The battle is won. You have lost half of your fighters. My Death Eaters outnumber you and the Boy Who Lived is finished. There must be no more war. Anyone who continues to resist, man, woman or child, will be slaughtered, as will every member of their family. Come out of the castle, now, kneel before me, and you shall be spared. Your parents and children, your brothers and sisters will live, and be forgiven, and you will join me in the new world we shall build together.”
You slightly lift your head.
The great hall was deadly silent.
You were sure he was lying.
You slowly walked up, holding hands with Ron and Hermione, exiting the great hall.
Voldemort and his army stood and your eyes spotted Hagrid.
He was carrying someone.
It was Harry.
Your body can't lift you anymore.
Mconagall let out a terrible scream followed by yours , Ron, Ginny, Hermione and Cedric's then everyone else.
Neville standing up to Voldemort.
He- he killed the snAKE??!!!
You just watchung Neville like a proud mom.
Cahos erupts once more.
Harry's gone?
No like seriously, he's just vanished.
poof
Spotting Cedric taking over three death eaters all at once.
Just being so proud of him.
You duelling Rodolphus Lestrange.
Took over him (as you should)
Moving to Bellatrix Lestrange.
Duelling her with Hermione, Luna and Ginny.
Bitch just aimed a killing curse at Ginny??!
About to make your move but-
“Not my daughter you bitch”
literally internally screaming because MOLLY WEASLEY DID NOT JUST CUSS???
Bellatrix's downfall.
Just felt a bit relaxed.
Voldemort is about to kill Molly but—
FUCK??
HARRY??
DID THIS MOTHERFUCKER TURN INTO A GHOST TO KILL VOLDEMORT?!!
Voldemort's downfall.
The man who everyone feared sayimg his name, just, fell down.
dead
Post-battle
You hug your mom so tight , she knew about everything.
You raising Teddy along with your mother and Harry.
You still have nightmares and trauma from the war.
But, Cedric was always there for you.
Not like he was any better, but you two comfort eachother.
Him placing soft, small kisses around your "traitor" scar after telling him about the Malfoy Manor events.
You, Harry, Ron amd Hermione gather at the burrow, just sitting there in comfortable silence, holding eachother.
Three years pass by and Cedric's on one knee, asking you to be his forever.
You frantically saying “Yes” before hugging him.
You were now an auror, just like Dora.
The wedding was so simple.
You had Hermione, Ginny and Luna as your bridesmaids.
Looking at the empty seats made especially for your father, Remus, Dora and Sirius.
Saying "I do" before leaning in and kissing him.
And for the first time in three years, your hair turned pink again.

Euphemia Potter and Sirius Black
The first time Sirius went to James’ house, was in the second break from their first year. James was going home to his family and he had asked him mom if his new beste mate could come with him to join them for Christmas.
At first, Euphemia didn’t approve of it, having another 11 year old in their house while she wanted to celebrate Christmas with her small family. But after having heard James talk about how the boy had a bad home situation, she said yes to James’ idea.
Euphemia and Fleamont were carefull with the black haired boy. They knew he was vulnerable, (even tho Sirius claimed he wasn’t) They were carefull because he do, in fact, was a Black. But after having him at theirs for one night, they realized he really wasn’t like a Black, not at all.
Sirius was polite, he smiled and talked a lot. He was nice to both Euphemia and Fleamont and he cared a lot about their son.
The first moment Euphemia realised how bad Sirius needed a real mom, was when she walked in on the boy having a nightmare one night.
Sirius was breathing heavily. Whimpering and silcent tears walking down his small face.
Euphemia softly touched Sirius’ cheek as Sirius flinched awake. He sat up fastly, gasping for air and breathing fast.
“Shhhh, its alright sweetheart.”
Euphemia hugged the boy close, ignoring the flinches and his shaking body. Just talking softly to him, telling him it was alright.
“Everything will be alright, shhh, it’s okay.”
Sirius had stopped crying, feeling safe here.
The second time Sirius was at James’ home, was when he was around 16.
He had had an awfully huge fight with his mother and father. Being beaten up and his body still shaking from the curses.
When he made the Potters he collapsed on the grass of their garden. Feeling the blood drip from his body and every bone felt broken.
He was gasping for air heavily, trying to breath but not getting any air. He saw everything going black, letting out a last frustrated cry.
When he woke up he saw Euphemia bending over him, looking worried, sad and angry.
Sirius let out another cry, trying to say he was sorry but not getting everything out of his mouth.
“Its okay hun, I’ve already told James and Fleamont. We’re all mad at the Blacks and we’re letting you stay here for as long as we can, we’ll find a solution.”
Sirius’ eyes changed from scared till peacefull.
He was home.
Sirius’ his body still hurted a bit but he was doing better and better. The Potters had taken him in, he didn’t think he’s deserve it but they hadn’t listened to that and had said it should’ve always been this way. He was one of theirs.
Sirius heard a knock on his door.
“Sweetheart, James is getting the food at the store with dad, can you help me with preparing the dessert?”
Sirius knew this was honestly just a moment for Euphemia to be with him. She had been trying to be as much with Sirius as possible. Let the boy show he was safe, and theirs. Sirius didn’t mind.
“Coming!”
As Sirius walked downstairs he saw Euphemia was already melting some chocolate. She gave him a sweat smile as he smiled back, rolling up his sleeves and putting his hair in a loose bun.
“You can call me mom you know, I’ve told you thousand times, you never say it.” Euphemia smiled.
Sirius shrugged.
After half an hour Fleamont and James came back as Fleamont spoke.
“... so as I talked to Mia she asked about what you were doing and I told her you were with our other son and-“
Sirius interrupted.
“Uhm, Flea- no wait. Uhhh. Okay listen... I really appreciate you guys calling me your son and all but I’m still a Black and you have James and I’m not your son as much as I’d love to be..”
James, Fleamont and Euphemia looked at the boy.
The short boy with the black hair till his shoulders. The boy who tried to hide his feeling even tho he was falling apart. The boy who always got a bright blush when James called him his brother.
James smiled. “It’s alright bro, you are my bother honestly you’re not going to change that.”
Fleamont nodded as Euphemia gave him a hug.
Sirius hugged back, closing his eyes knowing he didn’t want I any other way, really.
The third time Sirius was at the Potters was when he stood at their door, well Euphemia’s door.
Fleamont had died from Dragon Pox, and James... He was hiding, hiding with the love of his life. Lily and James were safe, together with Harry.
Sirius used to be the secret keeper of James and Lily, but he had changed with Peter last moment.
Sirius hAd to tell someone, anyone who listened really. He couldn’t tell his friends tho... There was a spy in the middle of them and Sirius didn’t know who it was. It could be anyone. He had to tell someone who would definitely not tell anyone else.
Euphemia had be the first person Sirius thought of.
She was James’ mom and would never ever betray him.
Euphemia opened the door, pointing her wand at Sirius.
“What did Sirius say to me the first time he met me?”
Sirius smirked, it had been truly hilarious.
“Hello miss Potter, I’m James’ new friend and I would like to inform that James once peed his pants while brushing his teeth walking on his hands.”
Euphemia laughed, letting her boy in.
“What’s wrong honny?”
“Well...”
After having talked to her for hours, Sirius finally felt a little lighter. Sirius had felt weird but he whole situation and didn’t really know what to do.
“So Peter is the secret keeper?”
Sirius nodded.
“Merlin I made a mistake didn’t I.”
Sirius talked silently, his head in his hands, shaking furiously.
Euphemia pulled him in a hug.
“You did nothing wrong, and it’s gonna be alright.”
Sirius nodded.
Two weeks later everything went wrong.
Sirius had sent Remus to Euphemia after having heard nothing of Peter.
He was going behind him, making sure everything went alright.
Sirius arrived at Godrics Hollow, his stomach hurting from the nerves and his wand ready. As he walked around the corner he began to run, seeing the house of James and Lily.
He only began to slow down when he saw no lights shining. The house wasn’t a house anymore. Only ruins were left.
Sirius began to feel hopeless.
“N-no! JAMES!”
He ran towards the house, not bothering to look around for anyone watching.
“JAAAMES!!! LILYYYY!!!”
He ran inside as the first thing he saw was his best mate lying on the stairs, motionless.
“N-no... No please no- James.”
Tears streamed down Sirius’ face as he felt his stomach drop.
He fell over his best friend hugging his bother close.
He only realised he still had to be strong when he heard a soft sound coming from upstairs.
“L-LILY?!”
Sirius ran upstairs, a second heartbreaking sight crashing over him.
Lily lying in the ground.
“Fuck-“
Another wave of tears hit him as Sirius realised the two most important people were dead.
Sirius heard a cry. Harry.
Harry was still sitting in his little bed.
Sirius took him out as fast as he could. Hugging Harry as close as he could.
“S-shhhh, it’ll b-be alright P-prongslet.”
He heard a loud sound as Sirius drew his wand. Tears still streaming over his face, holding Harry tightly with his other arm, protecting him at all cost.
It only took a few seconds when Sirius saw Hagrid. The giant had a sad look on his face as he looked at Sirius, who began shaking his head, crying harder, stepping back.
“N-no no no, please no, not Harry.”
Hagrid looked at Sirius with sad eyes.
“I’m sorry, Dumbledore’s order. Said I should get baby Harry to take him to his aunt ‘n uncle.”
Sirius shaked his head, disbelief showing in his eyes.
“No but, but he’s everything I have- please...”
Hagrid stepped closer as he pointed his umbrella at Sirius.
“I don’t wanna do this.”
Sirius kept Harry close to his chest. Thinking about Remus and Euphemia.
He gave Harry a small kiss to his head.
“T-take care of him.”
Hagrid took Harry as he walked away.
Sirius stood there, a numb feeling in his chest, breathing heavily, tears still streaming down his face. Hagrid had taken his motorbike.
Sirius slowly walked out of the house, seeing dementors everywhere. His eyes grew as he started running, the dementors on his heels.
Sirius heard someone scream, “THERE HE IS! ITS BLACK!”
Lights fired beside him as Sirius casted a protection charm.
After what felt like hours of fighting Sirius proceeded to arrive at Euphemia’s, hoping she and Remus weren’t also dead.
“EUPHEMIA! OPEN THE DOOR PLEASEE...”
Sirius fell against the door. Just when he thought he wouldn’t take it anymore, the door opened.
Euphemia opened it, her eyes full of concern.
“Oh sweathear-“
“They’re dead... Pettigrew killed them and they’re after m-me. I DIDNT DO ANYTHING... Please...”
Remus walked up behind the two of them as Euphemia was holding Sirius close.
A group of people of the minestry came running towards them, they heard them scream in the distance.
“WHAT DO I DO.”
Sirius was screaming hopeless, everything falling apart and not knowing what to do.
“Keep him safe, p-please keep Remus safe, and make sure y-you’ll get to take care of Harry, he’s alive, t-they’re taking him to Petunia and Vernon. I love you and thank you for everything.”
“No Sirius-“
The people of the minestry got close, Sirius felt a hand grab his clothes.
He screamed, seeing Remus run into the house.
He felt a hand hit him as Sirius hit and knocked everything he could hit.
Screaming and crying.
“Let him go he didn’t do anything!”
Euphemia was screaming against the people, trying to get her son back.
“MOMM! I DIDNT DO ANYTHING PLEASE MOM HELP ME!”
Sirius stopped fighting back as saw even his Euphemia looked hopeless.
She stepped forward slamming the door behind her so Remus was safe.
“GIVE HIM A TRIAL! HES THE ONLY THING IVE GOT LEFT AND YOU WONT TAKE MY OTHER SON FROM ME! I WONT ADMIT BOTH OF MY SONS LEAVING IN ONE NIGHT, BESIDES, HES INNOCENT.”
The people of the minestry of magic stopped hurting Sirius as they loosened the grip, not letting go yet.
After what felt like hours Sirius was sitting in the middle of a large room. People of the hearing looking at him. He felt so small.
His body was hurting and he felt the bruise they aurors hit grow.
The Veritaserum he has gotten at the beginning of the hearing started to impact him and he felt like something was taking over what he was saying.
The minister was about to talk when he cought Euphemia’s eye, his mom smiled at him. Sirius have her a faint smile back.
“Tonight we gather around for the trial of Sirius Orion Black. Mister Black,” Sirius flinched as he heard the name. He hadn’t been called so since he was 16.
“Is it true that you were James and Lily Potters secret keeper?”
“Partly.”
“Partly?” The minister looked confused and mad.
“I was in the beginning, but we changed the secret keeper.”
“Ehhhjj- Okay who is the secret keeper now then mister Black?”
Again Sirius flinched.
“Peter Pettigrew.”
The whole hall was looking at Sirius.
After a short silence the minister spoke again.
“And we’re is, Peter Pettigrew?”
“I- I don’t know.”
“We found the finger of Pettigrew. It was the only thing left from him, you blew him up.”
“No, Pettigrew is an animagus, he transformed into a rat and ran away.”
“Why would Pettigrew be an animagus?”
“Be.... Because our friend Remus Lupin is a werewolf and because Pettigrew James Potter and I became animagus for him... It’s easier for animals to be with werewolfs...”
Sirius looked down, knowing Remus would be so mad... He looked at Euphemia, she gave him a comforting smile.
“Find Peter Pettigrew!”
Euphemia took Sirius home, his case had been dismissed, they were going to keep an eye on him untill they found Pettigrew but he was allowed to go home.
Sirius was crying softly, cuddled up by his mom in her car. Not able to wait to go home. To see Remus. He was exhausted.
Euphemia opened the door as Sirius ran inside.
Remus stood up instantly, running toward Sirius.
Sirius threw himself on Remus, tears and limbs everywhere. Remus let out a harsh laugh, keeping Sirius close as he cried as well.
Sunlight was slowly rising trough the windows. A new day had started.
Euphemia looked at Sirius, smiling softly as she wiped away a tear.
Her boy would be okay.

Ways you said I love you prompt: Without needing to say the words
I couldn’t find this prompt on the list, but it was so beautiful the story started writing itself in my head. Thank you very much for asking ❤️
Ways you said I love you: Without needing to say the words.
Draco dreams of the forest. A forest, he supposes, but it feels like the forest.
In the dream, he’s holding a stone and looking at the ghostly figure of Harry Potter. In the dream, he’s crying. He can hear his parents calling out for him, he can hear, still, the echo of bombardas that he knows should have ended hours before.
He knows, in the dream, that things had gone the way he always knew they had to. He knows that he wishes they hadn’t. That, in the dream, he’s devastated.
That heartbreak follows him into daylight, drapes itself over him like a cloak. He feels it when he wakes, feels it as he walks the halls of the manor he commands, feels it as he’s told by his house elf that his father has called by floo and is waiting for him. He feels it as he hears him say, “the Potter boy was seen in Dorset three days ago. You know what to do if you find him.”
The heartbreak follows him all day, because he knows if he sees Harry Potter, he has to kill him. He knows that he will. And he mourns him already, the man he has never met, the man who is more legend than man, because he remembers himself standing in that forest. Because, in a dream, he knew him.
He also knows what’s expected of him, and he will follow through. Even if it kills him.
-
But this is not that kind of story.
-
What happened was this: the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord was born as the seventh month died.
And so, one fateful Halloween night, the man who called himself Lord Voldemort aimed his wand at that baby, after killing everyone standing on his way. He didn’t flinch or bat an eye, way past the point of hesitating before taking a life, even if it was the life of an innocent, wide-eyed one year old who stared at him with his arms outstretched, looking for comfort. He aimed his wand and said the words that would kill him.
The babe, defenseless, just sat there.
...but killing off a child would not be very PG-13 of us, would it, and so what happened was this: the little boy broke the Killing Curse as it slammed against him, turned it into endless fragments of green light, tendrils of black magic that floated up into the ceiling like dancing fingers, fading into nothing. Some of it slipped inside of him through his weeping little baby mouth, through his wide green eyes, through the jagged crack the impact put on his forehead, but most of it – gone.
And yes, the boy was nestled in a cocoon of protective magic strengthened by his parents’ sacrifice, but he was an actual baby, and a powerful curse slamming against him was certainly enough to knock him out, even if he did have a bit of a magical force field. He passed out. He did not die.
The man who called himself Lord Voldemort – perhaps not much of a man after all –  did not die that day, either, in any way, shape or form. There was no rebound to the spell. From his side of the wand, it appeared as if it had hit the boy and done what it was due.
He peered into the crib that held the unconscious baby and, being a Dark Lord and therefore not knowing the first thing about babies, assumed his work there was done. Satisfied, he turned on his heel and stormed down the stairs, ready to continue his pursuit of power, now unstoppable. That’s what he thought.
But the boy had not died, as we’ve established. What happened to him was this: a devastated young man in a flying motorcycle found him and, you know, like a regular person, thought to shake him around a bit before assuming he was dead. And the baby knew him, so he sighed with relief upon waking, lay against the man’s chest and fell back asleep clutching his battered jacket in his tiny fists.
When Hagrid came for the boy, Sirius insisted on accompanying him, and together they met Albus Dumbledore in Surrey. Yes, unfortunately that still happened.
We know how this story could have gone. But it is not how it went.
What happened was this: young Sirius Black now had an alibi. Even though the baby was still left in a terrible home with his terrible aunt and uncle, his godfather, a free man, visited him in the form of a dog – against Dumbledore’s orders, but, in young Sirius’ words, he did not give a shit – and taught him about magic all through his childhood. Harry Potter was a happy boy. He knew his stay in Privet Drive was momentary, he knew as soon as that man “Dumbledore” allowed it, his godfather would take him.
A few things changed, of course. This is not the story we knew. Let us try to break it to you… gently.
  1. Harry James Potter received the “you’re a wizard” talk at 4 years old, as soon as Sirius thought he’d be old enough to understand it.
  2. Sirius Black told him all about his parents as well. Showed him pictures and books and sometimes cried while he cradled Harry to sleep.
  3. Sirius Black, unbeknownst to Harry, once slipped into the Dursley’s bedroom at night, let them think he was a demon, and threatened to unleash hell’s wrath upon them if they weren’t nice to their nephew. It worked.
  4. Lord Voldemort didn’t die that Halloween night.
  5. Lord Voldemort continued his campaign for power and immortality.
  6. Lord Voldemort gained terrain over the Ministry, terrorized and devastated magical villages, established governors in each of them –  Death Eaters, all of them.
  7. Lord Voldemort directed a series of attacks against ministry facilities.
  8. On Christmas Eve, 1986, the Ministry fell. Millicent Bagnold was killed in her office, and Pius Thicknesse was appointed Minister in her place.
  9. Lord Voldemort gained full control of magical Britain.
  10. Albus Dumbledore visited when Harry turned 7 and told him the story of Tom Riddle, the man, and Voldemort, the monster. Harry was 7, and Dumbledore let him know he was a soldier. He let him know he was the most powerful wizard of all time, probably. He let him know he was their only hope. Harry was 7.
Everything was different.
Harry was whisked away from Privet Drive and taken to Grimmauld Place. He was 7, and his transformation into a warrior, a bringer of hope, began.
-
Harry Potter is, at 20 years old, a first priority criminal, wanted by a corrupt government for treason and criminal disloyalty.
The tips of his fingers hold more power than many wizarding folk see in their entire lives, charged with years of training, charged with light and dark magic, balanced inside of him like night and day. And what he does is this: he walks. There’s a member of the Resistance next to him, always, a different one each day as he walks through the country, feet calloused, refusing to apparate anywhere before he sees it all. He walks, passes villages in his search for horcruxes, and bestows small miracles upon those who need him.
He comes and goes, more legend than man. In places where governors reign wielding terror as their weapon, the people await him. His name is whispered in taverns, held close like a secret, like something precious, and when he appears, white hooded cloak shadowing his face, it’s as if rain poured after centuries of drought. He smells of dirt before a storm, of fresh grass, and every house welcomes him in secret in the middle of the night.
His hands brush over burning foreheads, over broken arms, through strands of hair, and his touch is curative. His words slide smooth like a balm over wounded souls, his message — we will win this, I will win this, worry not, fear not, for I will end this — the love everyone feels for him, deep in their hearts. He’s a stranger, but he’s not. In places where fear has become a living, breathing thing, villages where everyone cowers before their leaders, people bow down for their warrior, kiss his calloused hands, his scarred forehead, and what little they have they give him so he can continue his trip.
At night, after he has left, the air smells different, smells like him, like rain and lightning, and his message of love is whispered into the night with the certainty that he will free them, he will free them.
Harry Potter, the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord. The boy who lived, the man destined to become a savior.
At night, people come together in secret and say, “long live Harry Potter, savior of all.”
-
He’s just a boy, too.
He flies over Dorset, broom held tight between his legs as he makes his way to the Resistance’s refuge in East Devon. The hands that cured a man of blindness earlier, now push through a wooden door and find their way around the back of his godfather, who was up waiting for him. Desperate times, but that man always has a smile for Harry.
“News of civilization?” He asks then, holding him tight, letting him know it’s okay to share the burden of his responsibilities if only for a minute.
“Yes. A man knows of a man who bought the cup. We need to move to Wiltshire.”
That’s how he lives. Just a boy who happens to be a savior, who lives nowhere and everywhere, who knows his duty, who has trained his whole life to achieve it.
And Sirius goes with him. “We’ll hit the road tomorrow.”
-
When Harry Potter knocks on his door, Draco almost sicks up on the spot.
Piercing green eyes stare at him, ready for a fight. But Draco is smart. He knows Harry Potter has come looking for something. Draco reads the paper, talks to his father daily about the information they have on Potter at the Ministry. He wouldn’t come, unless he was looking for something.
Draco should kill him, should end this, win the Dark Lord’s favor.
But he dreamt of a forest, and of knowing this man who carries the wild in his eyes.
He lets him in.
-
Malfoy Manor is full of secrets. Harry coaxes them out of hiding, cradles them near his chest and learns about darkness by stumbling into it in every corner.
The cup calls for him from the heart of the house, and he finds it on the second day of his stay, unearths it from a coffin in the depths of the dungeons. He destroys it on the spot, unspools the layers of iron with the magic contained beneath his fingernails, and destroys it.
When he turns, Draco Malfoy is in the corner. The child of a Death Eater.
But Harry has been in many places, seen enough repentance to recognize it in downcast grey eyes. He lowers his cloak and walks to the child of a Death Eater, holds his head between his hands.
“You can tell me.”
“There’s more where that cup came from,” Draco mutters, as if Harry had forced it out of him. He could have, but he didn’t.
“Will you show me?” And he can tell this man whose beautiful face he holds between his fingertips knows little of gentleness, knows it because he sees him flinch at Harry’s uncomplicated love and soft words.
“I should turn you in.”
“Will you show me?”
Draco shows him.
-
He learns more from Harry Potter the first two weeks they spend together than he did in 7 years at Hogwarts.
In the mornings, he steps out the door to find Harry kneeling by the flower beds, and when he turns to Draco his smile is wide and gentle, “Look at this,” he says, and with a touch to their petals, he makes the buds shake off their stupor and bloom, nurses them back to health. “Every living thing is ready to thrive, if you ask nicely.”
In the evenings, when they share a meal by the fire, he can’t stop himself from thinking about his father. About the fact that he’s betraying him. And Harry knows, because he always knows. In the short time they’ve spent together, he’s always seemed to know.
“Once you’ve passed your own limit, punishing yourself for love, you will start hating yourself, Draco,” he tells him as if he could read his mind, and then reaches for his hands and plays with his fingers, traces an outline of vines and flowers along Draco’s arms with magic, with locks of pure, blue light. “And if you think you know what’s right, that’s what you should do.”
And it’s nothing Draco doesn’t know. He knows what’s right, knows the magic of Harry’s hands, knows his heaving chest after an evening looking through the libraries for clues of where he needs to go next, he knows his profile, has been staring at it for days, he knows what he feels after Harry kisses his hands and tells him he can join them if he wants, they have room for him, he has room for him.
He knows what’s right. Harry’s message of love, of life is what’s right. And he would walk through fire if Harry asked, but right now, he’s simply asking him to thrive, if he’s ready.
He’s ready.
-
“The locket is in Inverness,” Harry says. He can see Draco flinch, and he knows the reason. “We have a fortress there. Will you come with me?”
He knows the reason.
-
This is what it’s like, walking with him: there’s magic where Draco never thought to look before. In the eyes of a child, who feels hope for the first time, in the lips of a mother that kisses Harry’s hands and Draco’s forehead. There’s magic in Harry’s feet as they touch the ground and make flowers bloom around him, as he brings life to everything around him, offers tenderness and words of love in places where authoritarian brutality is the norm.
It’s this: walking into prisons at night and melting out the iron keeping innocents locked in. It’s colors seeping into grey, it’s Harry reaching into a tree and it producing a perfect, ripe apple to gift to him, it’s Harry pressing it to Draco’s lips with a smile and saying, “here, you’ve earned it.” It’s Draco biting into it and being certain of the fact that he loves this man, tasting it in the sweet, sweet juice after breaking the skin of the fruit.
He knows, now, that Harry is the legend he has always heard about. He’s infinite, raw power poured into the purest vessel it could find, he’s gentleness to his core, he’s magnetic and good. He makes it impossible not to love him.
And he knows, now, that Harry is also the boy everyone forgot used to hide underneath that cloak. That for all the life he brings everywhere he walks, there’s a solemnity he carries in his chest, the burden of hope heavy between his shoulder blades, crushing him even if he does not know.
Sirius comes and goes, joins them on their trip and disappears on recon missions, over and over. Once, when they’re alone, Draco tells him about it, says “he’s just a boy” and Sirius sighs because he knows what it’s like to love him, to love this boy who is both young and ancient, like Draco does, and can’t even assure him, because there’s many ways this could end, and only one of them, the least likely of them, lets them keep him.
So he gives Draco a stone.
-
It takes them a year. Harry makes his way through England and Scotland, brings hope and freedom to the people as he searches for the items he needs to destroy the Dark Lord.
Draco guides him into Hogwarts, hand in hand, the moment they know where to find the last one. As Harry destroys it, he sees Draco cry.
He hasn’t told him what Harry has always known, that the way this ends for him is in sacrifice, but he thinks Draco must suspect. So he holds him in his arms and smooths his hands through his hair and over his eyelids. “It’s almost over, my beloved. Now let him come to me.”
He makes himself sound more confident than he feels. For the first time, as he holds Draco close, he doubts his own faith, for entirely selfish reasons.
But he remembers his lessons, and he remembers Dumbledore, and the Order, and reminds himself that this is what he was born for.
“Let him come to me.”
-
Draco knows what Harry is going to do, and sees him try to hide it. He sees him fight, sees him help every single witch and wizard to cross paths with him, the way he always does.
And when they part ways in the midst of the battle later that night, when Draco sees his mother, he feels something shatter inside of him and knows it’s happening. So he runs.
-
“The boy who lived, come to die.”
“You think this ends with me, Tom, but it doesn’t. The people’s pain is more powerful than their fear, and they won’t be silent. Do not think they’ll be silent. From the other side, I will see them bring you down.”
And then a curse, finally doing what it was due all those years before.
-
He stands in the forest, a stone held tight between his fingers. He can hear his parents’ cries for him in the distance, running towards him, echoes of bombardas that should have stopped hours before. He stares at the ghostly figure of Harry Potter.
“Why?”
“This was the only way he would die. I know you don’t understand, Draco, but this was the only way.”
“But he’s not dead, he went back to the castle, he’s making everyone pick sides. Harry, it’s over, it’s over.”
-
Harry stands in Kings Cross.
He’s given a choice, and he thinks of the burden, thinks of what his life might look like now, what will be expected of him next.
He thinks of the boy with the grey eyes.
He makes his choice.
-
In the morning light, a hero is reborn. Draco tosses him a wand and runs to fight next to him. Where he always belonged.
Afterwards, when the withering body of a man who was a monster hits the ground, they walk into the Hall, hand in hand, covered in dust from head to toe. Harry touches every bloodstained forehead, every dead body, presses his forehead to them and whispers words in the ancient language of the magic that runs through his veins, through underground streams and every living, breathing thing.
Everywhere in the Hall, eyes begin to open, and look into a new world.
-
“The change is only starting,” Draco tells him, as they stand with their foreheads pressed together outside the castle.
“It has started, my beloved.”
He doesn’t say he loves him, but Draco has known from the beginning, hears the words in the spaces between, slowly, dripping from every pore of Harry’s skin.
“We should go away for a while, just… while the dust settles.” Harry doesn’t protest, but Draco sees it in his eyes, and so, he interrupts his thoughts with a soft press of cracked lips, rough to touch, tender to heart. When he pulls away, Harry’s smile is nearly blinding. “You deserve it, for once. Besides, I know of a place in Wiltshire where the flowers sing your name.”
“And you?”
“And I sing it, too. I sing it, my love.”

The Dark Princess
Tumblr media
*gif not mine//credit to the owner
A/N: This is my first ever published fanfic and I’m not very familiar with the usual writing norms so please go easy on me 🙆‍♀️ I’ve had this idea for a while this is meant as a prologue to the main storyline focusing around his daughter so the other chapters would have reader inserts ║ I got most of my information from Harry Potter wiki so my apologies if it’s not all correct║I refer to Voldemort as ‘Tom’ for the first part as in my head to Fleur he would always be Tom and she’d refuse to refer to him as Voldemort because that’s not the who she fell in love with║
Summary: AU in which Evan Rosier has a sister, Fleur Rosier, who falls in love with Tom Riddle (OOC). She was the only witch he considered to be on his level and during their 5th year they get into a relationship. She stays by his side after they graduate eventually falling pregnant.

 CHAPTER ONE
Prologue
➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰
There've been so many girls that I've known
I've made so many cry and still I wonder why
Here comes the little girl
I see her walking down the street
She's all by herself
I try and knock her off her feet
But, she'll never break, never break, never break, never break
This heart of stone
Oh, no, no, this heart of stone
He was the man who could know no love. Who could never feel love. Who could never be loved.
From the very moment he arrived at the orphanage those were the words uttered about Tom Marvolo Riddle. After the First Wizarding War was over, people were no less convinced that the Dark Lord was incapable of human emotion. Unbeknownst to everyone that very same man, the man notorious for his attempt at inflicting the darkest curse known to wizardkind on an infant, had a child of his own.
On the 27th of July 1980, Fleur Rosier, sister of Evan Rosier, gave birth to a baby girl in the bedroom of Riddle House. It had taken everything in the witch’s power to convince Tom that the child she bore, their child, was not the child spoken of in the prophecy. She could have cursed Severus on the spot when she found out what the fool had told the Dark Lord, knowing in her heart of hearts that there was no possibilty of it being their child. However the wizard, driven deranged from the relentless splitting of his soul, was not so sure. He made several attempts to test Fleur and her unborn child, using the cruciatus curse more than once. Each and every time she survived, she pushed through the pain to regale the same words and reassurances, desperate for him to believe her. Until one day on the stroke of her 3rd trimester, something clicked and he did believe her, no longer convinced his seed could ever be his demise.
What's different about her? I don't really know
No matter how I try I just can't make her cry
Cause she'll never break, never break, never break, never break
This heart of stone
Understanding that a wizard of his power could not afford to have such vulnerabilities he stowed Fleur away in the Riddle House, telling not a soul of their existence. And on a bright summers day, at 11:01am surrounded by Tom and a team of doctors and midwives, their child was born. A little girl. The next Heiress of Slytherin. The Dark Lord did not know what he expected to feel upon the birth of the child, but he did know that he did not expect such strong feelings of warmth and excitement to encompass him. Holding the minute-old infant in his arms, he felt an intense desire to protect her, to keep her out of harms way.
Oh, no, no, no, this heart of stone
Unfortunately for Lily and James Potter whilst Voldemort possessed the ability to feel love he did not possess compassion, and his obsession to kill their boy and fulfill the prophecy continued.
Don't keep on looking that some old way
If you try acting sad, you'll only make me glad
Better listen little girl
You go on walking down the street
I ain't got no love, I ain't the kind to meet
Over the next year Fleur watched on in horror as the man she loved slowly disappeared, giving rise to the darkest wizard the world would ever know. Once their daughter had reached six months old his visits became rare. By his last visit his appearance had completely changed, morphing into a pale reptile-like creature. She could barely stand to look at him, yet nevertheless their daughter’s adoration of her father never faltered and she continued to look up at him with the same loving eyes she always had despite the changes.
True, unconditional love.
Fleur learned of his plans to kill the Potter family and she could take no more. In her eyes if he could kill the Potter child there was nothing of Tom left to stop him from killing his own. Now completely engulfed by dark magic, she no longer trusted him with her and her child’s safety. So she turned to the only man she could trust, Albus Dumbledore.
'Cause you'll never break, never break, never break, never break
This heart of stone
Oh, no, no, you'll never break this heart of stone darlin
Albus Dumbledore had taught at hogwarts for many decades and in that time he’d come across thousands of students. None of those students, however, had disturbed him quite like Tom Riddle. From their first meeting at the orphanage, to his graduation day at hogwarts, Dumbledore knew there was something gravely dark about that boy. He was vaguely aware of a relationship between him and the Rosier girl, but he did not expect them to bear a child. Reading over the letter once more, the last sentence stuck in his mind ‘She is in grave danger. You must save her.’
As Peter Pettigrew informed his master of the Potter’s location, the spineless man also informed him of a conversation he had overheard between Dumbledore and Minerva McGonagall speaking of a letter he had received from Fleur Rosier informing him of her child sired by the Dark Lord, and begging the Professor to hide them away and keep them safe. Learning of Fleur’s betrayal, he made Pettigrew form an unbreakable vow promising never to reveal the knowledge of Lord Voldemort’s offspring, before travelling back to Riddle House for the final time.
On the night before Halloween Fleur placed her daughter in her cot, bright eyes watching as she picked up her copy of Tales of Beedle the Bard, ready to read her to sleep. Before Fleur could finish reading the first sentence, the door to the nursery flew off its hinges revealing Lord Voldemort blind with rage. Without giving her a chance, his yellow slits met her brown orbs, wide with terror, as he delved into her mind. Memories of their years at hogwarts together flew by intertwined with countless memories of their daughter, before it fell on the memory he was after. The Dark Lord watched as her quill glided across the page, silent tears rolling down her cheeks. Hesitating several times she folded the letter and placed it in the owls beak, giving the animal its destination - “Albus Dumbledore, Hogwarts Castle.” This was all the confirmation he needed and he pointed his wand at her as she helplessly pleaded with him not to hurt their daughter, her arms outstretched protectively around the cot in an attempt to block the toddler.
No, no, this heart of stone
You'll never break it darlin
You won't break this heart of stone
Oh no no no
As his daughter watched on from inbetween the bars of her cot, Lord Voldemort fired the Killing Curse at his former companion, bright green sparks illuminating the room.
And then, silence.
You better go
You better go home
Cause you'll, you'll never break this heart of stone

TLTNL- GRAWP
"What I don't understand," Remus said in exasperation, "is how Voldemort was even in Nagini's mind? What on earth kind of magic allows that!"
It had taken them ages for the Marauders to finally stop talking about the twins epic leave of Hogwarts, but finally as James made to grab for the book again, Remus chose now to break in with something he'd been thinking on all morning. He glanced anxiously at Harry, and though he paled and flinched again at the reminder, he waved Remus on with a curious look in place.
"We've no more idea than how he's even alive," Sirius sighed, also glancing at Harry nervously, though in fear for what was happening to his pup, he was sure Harry could handle this conversation so long as he had them around.
"I was wondering if it was some unprecedented Parseltongue ability." Remus offered. "Nagini was telling Voldemort what happened in such detail, Voldemort was visualizing the whole thing, and Harry just happened to be present while that was happening. Just because Snape said it happened one way doesn't mean there aren't other options."
"I mean, I guess it could have happened that way," Lily frowned as she thought that through. "He'd be learning about this information and feeling the emotions in the moment, so it still counts-"
"but doesn't explain Harry's insisting fear he felt he had fangs for a moment," James disagreed.
"Harry still could have just been projecting what Voldemort was visualizing during Nagini's attack," Sirius disagreed.
"None of that explains Dumbledore's sudden no contact with Harry," Lily shot down. "This must be something, more. I can't think how else to put it, but something new must have happened over the summer, some ability Voldemort seems to have. It clearly does involve Harry in some way, his mind and connection at least, that has Dumbledore avoiding Harry."
"That doesn't track with everything else though," James said in exasperation. "Why allow Harry to even know about the Order if he really thought Harry knowing anything was dangerous?"
"He hasn't let me know much of anything," Harry shot back. He hated having to think about all this again, but it somehow felt better as well. He was no longer in the heat of the memory, being forced to listen to the idea he was turning into Voldemort. Now he instead got to hear them push around theories and ideas, and that would always feel more bearable, especially when he could feel they were close.
James didn't blame Moony for the change of subject, that had probably been on his mind since the part before Snape's memory had turned their world in a new direction, and it was a miracle he hadn't butted in with this by now. Nonetheless he beckoned to Harry, "why don't we do something nice for your mum, we'll do lunch."
Harry didn't hesitate in following him out, Lily watching them with a light frown. She didn't think Harry felt any ill will for James anymore, but clearly James had more to say. So she forced herself to remain in her seat rather than follow.
When James had said, 'do lunch,' he actually just rapped a pot on the stove to start heating leftovers, but it was the thought that counted, right? Instead he watched as Harry uneasily set the table. When both tasks were done, lunch was ready, and still neither had said a word, James finally forced himself to just spit out what he'd been chewing on this whole time.
"I am sorry."
Harry looked around in surprise, that was usually his line.
James watched Harry steadily for a reaction, hoping his continuing to bring this up wouldn't change whatever comfort Harry had taken in from Sirius, but he couldn't let this one drop without saying his piece either. "Not for that time," he clarified, "I'll never let anyone talk to Lily like that, but I am sorry I was that way, and it pushed Snape into saying that. I'm sorry if what I did to him really did push him into being a Death Eater, when I'd spent the past five years of my life showing Sirius that would never happen to him despite his family. I'm sorry for the way Snape treats you, that's entirely my fault."
Harry rested his hand on the back of a chair like he needed the support. The realizations still hit sometimes, that he was speaking to James instead of wishing it like he'd spent all his life doing, and now more than ever after such a harrowing blow to his memory was returned. "I forgave you," he told him with confidence. "It's like Lupin said, you were only fifteen. If you guys had just seen shots of my memory, me shouting at my friends for nothing, Hermione punching Malfoy, Ron's anger at me before the First Task; you'd all be thinking the worst as well. I wish I'd gotten to know more about you, but Mum's right. You changed," Harry stopped there. He wanted to say Snape hadn't, that he was still a bitter fifteen year old treating Harry like dirt because of what James had once done, but the words wouldn't fully come to him either. Snape was still a vindictive arse, but this memory had really charged something in him, leaving him very confused about his full memories to the man.
James didn't seem to notice that part though, as he roughly pulled Harry into a hug. The absolute fear Harry could have actually hated him hadn't really been felt until it was gone.
Harry returned the affection with a natural ease he never would have believed.
He also broke the hug first, saying, "I'm glad this one should be almost over, I've had a bad feeling about it from the start and I really just want to be done with this year."
James agreed at once, though Harry felt like he hadn't made himself plain enough about that bad feeling considering he was still smiling.
At least lunch was a calm affair, Lily saying they should be able to finish this book by dinner if they didn't have any more long dramatic interruptions which she tried to blame entirely on Sirius.
Sirius informed her she did this too much, but took the blame with grace by spending the rest of lunch refusing to talk about anything else by discussing with the boys anything and everything he could about Quidditch.
James and Lily managed to slip away for a few minutes by themselves to care for the baby, and James happily showed Lily a broom design made from redwood. Even if that tree wasn't native to their land, he'd import it just for his Lily flower.
It didn't actually take that much effort though to get them all back in seats, but they'd switched it up just a bit so now Harry was in between James and Sirius again simply to prove he had no ill will towards either of them. Remus took the seat next to Lily and muttered for her alone while James began looking for his place, "any bets on how long before the next catastrophe takes place in here?"
"I'd rather just pretend there's not going to be one," Lily huffed.
"Joys of being a pessimist, either you expect the worst, or you're pleasantly surprised to be wrong," Remus shrugged without remorse.
"That sounded more like the optimistic view on pessimism," Lily rolled her eyes while James began with a genuine smile again.
The story of Fred and George's was retold so often over the next few days that Harry could tell it would soon become the stuff of Hogwarts legend:
"I'm so proud!" Sirius squealed. "We've forever been upstaged by Weasley's and I'm not even upset!"
"I can hardly believe what they did, the mark they left," James couldn't stop smiling for something so momentous as the twins putting themselves into Hogwarts history like that.
For just a moment as Harry watched them react so proudly to this, he got just a touch jealous. They'd made it clear they were proud of him too, but he'd certainly never felt like he'd done anything Marauder worthy like the twins just had. Then he wondered if this was how Ron felt all the time, towards his own brothers, to his own best friend?
it stretched into the two becoming their own phrase, students could now be heard saying if they suffered anymore classes they'd pull a Weasley.
"I can't believe we were so easily replaced with our infamy," Sirius sighed.
"I think hiding our symbol in the Shrieking Shack is still good enough," Remus shrugged, that was where they spent more time than even their dormitory.
"Yeah," James grudgingly agreed, "guess I'm just jealous. If it wasn't for Lily, I'd feel like I wasted my last year at school not doing something as spectacular before I left."
Lily blushed faintly James had actually admitted aloud he'd cooled himself down just for her.
Fred and George had made sure nobody was likely to forget them too soon.
"Oh that's impossible," Sirius said firmly.
For one thing, they hadn't a clue how to remove the swamp filled corridor.
Then James promptly burst out with laughter as he kept envisioning the thing, the others joining in with delight. They hadn't thought the twins could get better and they just kept being proven wrong.
Umbridge and Filch had been seen trying all manner of things to be rid of it, but with nothing working, Filch was given the task of ferrying people across when need be, who was not at all pleased with this.
Lily gave a righteous laugh, still wanting to punt him from the school after what he'd so wanted to do to the twins, to any student. This was far more what he deserved.
Harry was certain that competent teachers could have removed the swamp in an instant,
"Well I do agree," Lily nodded, her mind boggling a bit at this stretch of magic, "I'd like to ask them how. What kind of magic even was that, an ever lasting potion, a transfiguration spell for the corridor?"
"I want to ask the twins!" Sirius whined. "Curse them not having done this yet."
Remus gave him a look for that comment even as he did agree.
but just as in the case of the fireworks, they seemed to prefer to watch Umbridge struggle.
"The appropriate response," Remus agreed.
Umbridge's door had to be replaced for the two broom shaped holes in it, and rumor now had it Harry's Firebolt was being kept in the dungeon with a security troll to prevent him doing the same.
"I actually believe that," Sirius groaned miserably.
"I wish you'd summoned it to you when they had," James sighed. "Even if you didn't fly off and join them, you'd find a way to keep it out of her webbed fingers."
"I was a little stunned at the moment," Harry protested, and no one argued the point, as they would have been as well.
Her troubles were still only just beginning.
Inspired by the twins, half the population of the school was now vying for the newly vacant position of Troublemakers-in-Chief.
"At some point the title could rest in peace," Lily said without a hope it would happen.
"My fingers are crossed for Ginny now," Sirius grinned, clearly the lot of them ignoring her, "she's got potential."
"What about that one lad always friends with the twins," Remus offered. "He wasn't mentioned going with them, but I'm sure he'd still miss them enough to keep up their legacy one more year."
"Guess it's too much to ask you tried?" James asked of Harry, who was already shaking his head in answer even with a smirk in place for remembering the chaos so constantly erupting in corridors for all this.
Such occurrences of this involved a niffler somehow getting into Umbridge's office and trying to chew off her rings.
"That poor Niffler," Remus said in concern.
"I saw Hagrid nursing it that afternoon," Harry promised.
As well as Dungbombs and Stink Pellets were dropped so frequently in the corridors that the Bubble-Head Charm became a new trend,
"I'm glad that spell's gotten some popularity," James grinned even remembering the ire of not knowing about it when it would have come in handy.
even though it gave them all the peculiar appearance of wearing upside-down goldfish bowls on their heads.
"Well, whoever said fashion isn't functional clearly never met that trend setter," Lily giggled.
When he wasn't attending tasks, Filch was prowling the corridors with a horsewhip in hand, desperate to catch someone to use it on, but the problem was there were so many around he had no clue which way to turn.
Harry watched all of them shake their heads in disgust for that, Lily even starting to get a nervous tick picturing some poor innocent kid ending up on the wrong side of him, so soothed, "don't worry, as far as I know, no one actually did get a single hit. If ever it looked like he'd pinned down someone long enough, kids you'd never believe did something to distract him so others could run away. I saw this Slytherin fourth year knock over a statue on purpose after Filch was screaming at a little Hufflepuff girl for accidentally tripping over one and 'destroying school property.'"
As if they hadn't enough reason to smile already, that gave them all yet more warmth for this display.
The Inquisitorial Squad was trying to help, but odd things kept happening to the members. Warrington was submitted to the hospital wing for his skin being covered in something akin to burnt cornflakes,
"I feel like someone got a hold of more wartcap powder," Sirius smirked.
and Pansy missed all her lessons the following day as she had sprouted antlers.
James in particular looked pleased with this bit of magic, one of his personal favorite tricks when people asked why he was called Prongs was to grow antlers on others for answer and claim that as his signature spell.
It also became clear just how many Skiving Snackboxes Fred and George had sold in their time, as soon every one of Umbridge's classes were fainting, vomiting, high with fevers, or had blood pouring endlessly from their noses, claiming to have Umbridge-itis.
"A deadly disease I would not wish upon my worst enemy," Remus kept grinning wider every second.
"I don't know, what do you think would happen if we put Voldemort and Umbridge in the same room?" Sirius couldn't help but ask.
"Either they'll kill each other-" Lily said hopefully.
"Or she'll have a new master to follow and somehow become even more terrifying," James shivered. "I still can't believe she's not actually a Death Eater!"
After putting four successive classes in detention and failing to discover their secret,
Harry sighed heavily for that one, rubbing at the back of his hand in remembrance. Madam Pomfrey had ordered whole stocks of Essence of Murtlap and had started handing them out without question, but none of that made it feel better to see others suffering what he had.
she was forced to let the droves of students leave.
In all their efforts though, no student had come close to the master of chaos, Peeves, who seemed to have taken Fred's words to heart.
James looked as if he'd found a treasure map, ticking off each item Peeves did like a new nugget of gold!
In a constant state of cackling, he was never seen without anymore; bursting through walls to scare anyone on the other side, knocking over whatever was upright, regularly shutting Mrs. Norris into anything available, smashing anything remotely breakable, juggling lit candles, flooding whole hallways, dropping tarantulas into the Great Hall during meals,
"I'll bet Ron loved that one," Remus got out in between James' breathless retelling.
and whenever he fancied a break, spent hours at a time floating along after Umbridge and blowing loud raspberries every time she spoke.
"I am actually impressed," Lily said faintly. "I never thought he could get worse!"
None of the staff but Filch seemed to be stirring themselves to help her.
"I'd be worried if they were," James wheezed, acting so giddy upon reading such massive mayhem he was likely to pass out soon. Of all the regimes going on inside their school, all the hateful new being passed around his son, finally some good was being the cause of it all!
In exact opposite it seemed, as Harry distinctly saw McGonagall pass by Peeves trying to unscrew a chandelier, and she told him it worked the other way.
Sirius fist pumped the air in triumph, all of them red faced from laughter and wishing McGonagall was here already so they could give her a hug in congratulations.
To cap matters, Montague had still not recovered from his sojourn in the toilet;
Sirius managed an extra hard laugh for that swift remembrance.
and his parents had been summoned to the school, the trio watching their arrival on the front lawn through their Charms class.
Hermione was worried they should say something about what happened to him, if it might help Madam Pomfrey cure him.
"Nah," the three Marauders said at once, while Harry rubbed at his temple in some empathy for Montague and Lily just shook her head at them.
Then they froze, and looked to Harry like any hint of no remorse upon another student would set him back into thinking the worst of them again. He however only considered this like he did all their passing comments, just them mouthing off. Even if they did mean it, he still couldn't really care, Madam Pomfrey had fixed worse injuries without anyone's help.
Ron said no at once, he'd be fine.
Harry agreeing it only caused more problems for Umbridge.
"This is true, it's not a good mark for the woman parents have to come up to the school," James smirked.
Not at all distracted, the two tried to tap their teacups and have legs grow from them. The spell was supposed to be like Hermione's, who's had grown four strong willow sticks and was trotting around happily.* Instead, Harry's grew such tiny stumps they didn't even bend enough to bring his cup off the desk, and Ron's were so flimsy the cup stood for only a second before falling and cracking in half.
Hermione repaired Ron's cup for him while still speaking if Montague was permanently injured?
Remus actually considered that for a second, again remembering the half broken cabinet and genuinely wondering if something had gone permanently wrong there.
Harry suddenly felt a heavy twitch cross his mind, some dire warning he should have paid more attention to this, because someone had...but he tried to shake that off and told, "I feel like he recovered." For some reason though, this only made him feel worse, and they easily let the matter drop, all confident Pomfrey could fix this.
Ron insisted no one cared, this was only a good thing for their already slim chances at the Quidditch Cup. If Hermione wanted someone to worry about, let it be him.
"Oh Ron, the spell's not that hard," Lily giggled, Flitwick would probably just assign them more homework practice.
While putting his finger under his cup to help support its weight, he told them he was expecting a howler any day now when it got through Umbridge's screening process.
"Why?" Sirius said slowly.
"If I'd guessed, it would have been back when the DA had been outed, but it's been far too long, he hasn't done anything more recently," James agreed curiously.
Hermione tried to ask why, but Ron was already explaining his mum was going to blame him for not stopping the twins leaving. He should have grabbed their broom tails or something to stop them, this was somehow going to be all his fault.
"Oh, she wouldn't," Lily tried to say even if her tone showed no signs of meaning it.
"I really can't see even Molly doing this one," Sirius shook his head. "I don't remember her ever saying to go after the twins once he got his Prefect badge. She's got a bad habit of comparing the youngest to the elders, but never seems to have expected the younger set to tell the elder ones off."
Harry at least fervently hoped so, Ron most certainly did not deserve that one when Harry was their enabler in all of this.
Hermione said if she did, it would be entirely unfair, he couldn't have done anything.
Harry grinned for Hermione again, thankful that finally she seemed to be on their side again in these arguments.
She was confident Molly wouldn't, clearly they had been planning this anyways if they had premise in Diagon Alley.
Ron said that was something odd though, as he wrapped his teacup to try the spell again, but he'd hit it so hard it only fell again.
"I don't think that's helping," Lily randomly giggled.
Where had they gotten the gold for that? Their mum was going to want to know.
"Did they never ask you what you did with your Triwizard Winnings?" James asked. He knew Harry had never told them, but his friends had never brought it up?
"I guess they just assumed I shoved it into my vault," Harry shrugged.
Hermione agreed that had occurred to her too, ignoring her own cup that was going in circles around Harry's cup who still hadn't tried moving with its stubby legs.
"This is just getting insulting," Lily couldn't stop giggling even while she said it.
She'd been wondering if they'd been doing work for Mundungus to get that kind of money.
"That wouldn't have been a bad guess," Remus agreed.
Harry said they hadn't at once.
"You finally going to tell them, because otherwise that was idiotic," Sirius scolded.
"I wasn't going to have their family thinking they'd done something illegal," Harry sighed. "I'd far rather Mrs. Weasley hate me than think something like that of anymore of her children."
"She's not going to hate you," James at once said with conviction. "The only thing she might be is flustered at the generosity, but she'll just have to get over that."
They asked how Harry would know that, and he only hesitated a moment before finally telling why.
Hermione was so surprised, her cup took a dive off the desk and neither of them noticed.
"Timing," Lily gave the loudest snicker of all.
Ron stated this was excellent, at once asking if he could tell his mum this was all Harry's fault!
Sirius burst out with laughter once again, James nodding along and agreeing, "Ron's priorities."
Harry agreed he'd better, especially if she was going to start thinking her sons had stolen cauldrons.
"I can see why you wanted to wait," Remus agreed, "now they're really going and she can't guilt them into giving it back."
Hermione said nothing at all for the rest of the lesson, but Harry had a shrewd suspicion that her self-restraint was bound to crack before long.
They all sighed, not particularly wanting to hear another Hermione lecture about what Harry had done stupidly lately.
Sure enough, once they were out in the quad in the weak May light, she turned to him with a determined look on her face, so Harry interrupted before she could start.
"Has that ever helped?" Sirius asked in surprise.
"Nope, but it was worth a shot after the last time she spent a whole day on it," Harry sighed.
He told her not to even start, it was over and done with, and to save her breath because he did not regret doing this for them.
Hermione sounded hurt when she said she wasn't going to say anything about that.
"Maybe if she wasn't nagging you all the time, she wouldn't be so offended when you try to stop her doing it," Remus rolled his eyes.
"Oh stop," Harry cut them off with a sigh. "Hermione's a bit much, I know that better than anyone, but lay off her for a bit, I jumped the wrong conclusion that time."
They gave in with a muttered apology.
Ron snorted disbelievingly and Hermione threw him a very dirty look.
"Can't say that wasn't deserved though," Remus muttered.
She insisted she wasn't, she'd wanted to ask him when he was going to ask Snape for more Occlumency lessons
"Why!" Sirius demanded. "He's been tortured enough this year!"
Once Fred and George's dramatic departure had evaporated their talk, the two had wanted to know what Harry had gone to talk to Sirius about. Still failing to explain the initial reason, Harry instead told them it had been to do with Snape stopping his lessons and Sirius wanted him to keep going with them.
James crinkled his nose at this, saying, "there are far too many holes in that, I'm not surprised Hermione's trying to get the real story."
"That's still not why she was having a go at me," Harry groaned.
He had regretted this ever since, as Hermione had then chosen to bring the subject up again when Harry least expected it.
"Ah, well honestly this one's your own fault, I could have told you not to bring this back up with her," Lily rolled her eyes.
"Especially as you still have no intentions of doing it," Remus shook his head, Harry's expression made that abundantly clear, and he felt quite sore his warning had so easily been brushed off by Harry.
Hermione snapped at him he couldn't pretend like they weren't needed, Ron had said he'd been muttering in his sleep again.
Harry gave Ron a furious look, who had the grace to be ashamed.
"I don't know, I can see the good of that one," Lily sighed as she saw some snippy comment on Sirius' lips. "He's worried about his friend, not on the same level as Hermione, but both recognize far more than you seem to this shouldn't be entertained," she finished with a look at Harry, who also had the grace to look ashamed for never trying harder at this. He wasn't sure if it was his mother's guilt trip, or something far more unspeakable that was causing him to feel this so heavily...
Ron apologetically said for both it had only been a bit, he'd been muttering about reaching further.
Harry lied he'd been dreaming of Quidditch, he wanted Ron to reach out just a bit further for the Quaffle.
Ron's ears went red, while Harry didn't feel a drop of remorse for lying.
"Brutal," Sirius laughed in surprise.
"But deserved," James sighed.
He had in fact again dreamed all the way up to the room full of glass spun orbs, but again woken up feeling he'd been moments away from the true want.
James stopped in alarm at the noise Harry made, all of them looking to him with deep concern as he groaned with misery, head in his hands again, breathing so heavily they could have been his last breaths.
"Harry!" James swiftly put the book aside at such an alarming reaction that somehow got worse each time this was brought up. "Harry, calm down! You're going to be fine, whatever is in there, you are going to be fine!"
This had no effect on making him better, as that was not what was gripping him so tight he couldn't breath. It wasn't his safety he so feared.
"It's okay, it's going to be okay," Sirius insisted, looking frantically to Lily or Remus to help, but they had no more clue what left him in such a mess. "Erm, what if I-" his mind flagged desperately for something to distract Harry with, "show you how we created the Marauders Map!"
"What?" Harry looked up in genuine surprise, the pain from his skull not yet fully subsiding which must explain the tears trickling out, but he wiped furiously at them to keep his attention on Sirius.
"Yeah," he confirmed at once. "Something to look forward to!"
James agreed at once, saying, "it took me a few days to create it, but it won't take near as long to recreate it. I've been wanting to show Lily anyways, you'll both get a kick out it."
Harry gave a slow nod, taking easier breaths now as he kept this promise tight inside him. Whatever horrid thing had happened in his past to cause this feeling, they were right, he had something he could cling to now as a promise he wouldn't have to relive his memory long.
James waited an extra moment to make sure Harry wasn't going to set himself into a full blown panic attack before gingerly picking the book back up, almost afraid of what else it was going to do to his son if this topic didn't change soon.
Hermione inquired then that he was still trying with his Occlumency?
Harry lied and said he was, but the truth was he was curious about all this and wanted the dreams to keep going.
Harry's whole center shook, he looked very much like he would collapse in a fit in moments. Clearly what he'd been thinking at fifteen, the exact opposite was trying to run through his mind now, and the two together were wreaking havoc inside of him.
James reached over again, grasping his shoulder firmly until he fought back for control, still waving him to go on adamantly for this to just be over with.
The problem was, with less than a month till exams, his mind usually seemed much more focused on stupid dreams.
"First you were complaining about them, now you want them and you're not getting enough of them," Remus tried to get a rise out of Harry instead of watching him tear himself apart for something he couldn't yet understand. "You never can seem to make up your mind eh?"
Harry offered him a flimsy smile that was as weak as the toddler upstairs.
He also suspected the more Hermioneish part of his mind was guilting him into waking up before the journey's end.
"Hermione doesn't seem so bad now she's right," James offered as Harry kept rubbing at his temples.
Sirius gave Remus a sympathetic look as well which Moony easily grasped. It wasn't just him being ignored, Harry wasn't taking advice from anyone about this.
Something new to distract him was the final match of the Quidditch season, Gryffindor versus Ravenclaw, which was to take place on the last weekend of May. Although Slytherin had been narrowly defeated by Hufflepuff in their last match,
"Wow, where's my description of that match!" Sirius yelped, grasping at any pleasant conversation, and this was an easy one.
"Nothing too memorable happened," Harry shrugged. "Malfoy actually caught the Snitch, for once, but he took Krum's way out. Hufflepuff was winning on points, Montague hadn't come back yet and the appointed Slytherin was a right idiot, I don't know what they were doing during training but it wasn't practicing."
"As much as they deserve," James cheered, wriggling in pleasure even as he kept a close eye on Harry to make sure he really was trying to put mention of that Department past him.
Gryffindor did not yet dare for a victory, though no one said it to him, because of Ron's goalkeeping ability.
Ron took his own outlook on the morning of, telling them at least he couldn't get any worse.
"There's the bright side," Lily snickered in surprise, while James just looked bemused at this. Better than constantly ragging on himself he supposed.
As Harry and Hermione were shuffling into the crowd, Hermione mentioned she suspected this game might just go better because Fred and George weren't around, they never helped his confidence.
"I can see that," Remus said fairly.
"They mocked him from time to time," Sirius disagreed, "but they were never so bad I think it damaged Ron any more than that horrid song. I don't think they'll make a real difference to him."
"Least Angelina already had their replacements," James grumbled, still wishing it was Harry on that pitch rather than Ginny, he was sick of reading side line events, he wanted to be back in the air!
Luna Lovegood overtook them with what appeared to be a live eagle perched on top of her head.
The boys burst out in surprised laughter Luna had indeed gone further with that idea!
It was as Harry watched this though, not at all mean spirited but that recent memory still with him, that the expression they'd first carried upon hearing of her finally clicked as he turned sharply to them. "Would you lot have done all that to Luna?"
James' automatic response wanted to be no, but he still considered the question for a moment before saying slowly, "ah, well, we certainly would have liked to have words with her, she's a fascinating thing."
"You would have mocked her?" Harry outright demanded with a raised brow.
Sirius blew a chunk of hair out of his face, but didn't deny, "guess it depends on how well we bothered to get to know her. We thought Remus was a right odd ball before we had a proper chat with him."
Harry saw they were still avoiding the question, as he'd honestly noticed outside their little group they didn't seem to 'converse' with much of anyone unless it was for a motive. Still though, he was just as fascinated they looked a touch ashamed even as they side stepped this. He hadn't realized his disapproval really meant so much to them.
Then the teams assembled on the edge of the field, and Hermione said her surprise she'd forgotten Cho would be playing. Harry grunted in response, he had not.
"Ex crush versus ex fan girl!" Sirius said loudly, very clearly trying not to let Harry linger on that last subject.
"Sadly I think Cho's got the better edge, she's played more games, actually wants this position," James eagerly put in.
"I wouldn't underestimate Ginny, we don't know how long Cho's been flying outside her house team, but we know Ginny's been doing it since single digits, she may well have the advantage," Remus offered insight.
Harry decided to let the Luna matter go, they'd yet to actually be doing anything wrong to her and there was no sense yelling at them for something they hadn't done wrong yet to one of his friends.
Across from them in the stands, the Slytherins were all filing in, and Harry hoped desperately they wouldn't have anymore chances to sing Weasley Is our King.
"I wasn't aware they needed an excuse, they just continued doing it because they're arse holes," Lily grumbled.
Lee Jordan, who had been very dispirited since Fred and George had left,
"That was it," Remus huffed for forgetting.
"Guess I can't blame him for not being in the mood to prank others when his mates up and did that," Sirius sighed.
was commentating as usual. As the teams zoomed out on to the pitch he named the players with something less than his usual gusto.
"I can just imagine McGonagall feeling sorry for the poor kid," James frowned sadly.
Harry watched Cho chat with Davies as the teams matched up, prepared to shake hands, and Harry found he only had a slight twinge of jealous as the two Ravenclaws smiled at each other before the captains shook hands.
"Guess that crush wasn't as gone as we thought," James looked to Harry in surprise, who only shrugged, he really didn't have much of a memory for this game, especially not Cho, though he wasn't exactly sure why. Surely even if he wasn't playing in it, he'd have a care? Maybe Ron really hadn't done any better and he'd tried to block the whole thing out, but that wasn't the right kind of disconnected feeling...
Lee began as usual, saying who had the Quaffle in what position, and Davies was already heading for Gryffindors goals, Gryffindor had a chance at making it, and- Lee swore.
"Least he hasn't lost all of his enthusiasm," Remus chuckled.
Ravenclaw had scored, and the Slytherins at once took up the chance with their song.
Harry and Hermione were distracted from what happened next by Hagrid sidling up to them, trying to remain crouched as if wanting to be out of sight, but even doubled over he was four feet taller than those next to him.
"Why's he trying to hide at all?" Lily asked in surprise. "He's been known to come to a few matches."
"Don't look at us," Remus shrugged even as he looked eagerly at James for this explanation that he had his fingers crossed in hope for.
He asked if they'd come with him, now, while everyone was watching the game.
"I can't believe I'm saying this," James gaped down at this, "but I'd actually go with him."
"If there's one thing to drag away a good Quidditch match," Sirius agreed, though finished rather threateningly, "but Hagrid had better finally be showing you what he's been up to, if it's for anything less, I'll find a way to curse that man through his skin for cutting this off."
Harry merely hummed in agreement.
Hagrid's nose was gently dripping blood. His eyes were both blackened. Harry had not seen him this close-up since his return to the school; he looked utterly woebegone.
Lily crooned loudly for the poor dear, all of them feeling a pain deep inside for what Hagrid was putting himself through. He must have a really good answer for this one!
Harry agreed without any thought.
Harry felt absolutely no regret for this decision, even as his face tightened just a bit, his innards promising this wasn't going to be a pleasant stroll.
The three got themselves out of the stands, Hagrid saying how much he appreciated them, and hoped she didn't see them leaving.
"Only one she I can think of," Lily spat, "and sadly she might have."
"She can't stop them from going off with Hagrid," Remus miserably tried to argue, already feeling it pointless.
Harry said Umbridge was surrounded by her Inquisitorial Squad like she was expecting trouble, there was a good chance she hadn't noticed them.
"Guess she understands less than I thought, which is saying something. No one would try a prank during a Quidditch game," Sirius heavily rolled his eyes.
Hagrid said that may be good for them, give them more time, as he started heading towards the Forest.
Lily began playing with a strand of hair with nerves. She knew Hagrid wasn't purposefully leading Harry to anything dangerous, but this was certainly not a pleasant beginning in her opinion, and it was nice to see the others faces showed agreement even as well used to the Forest as they were.
Hermione asked what they were doing as they went across the lawn, but in favor of answering Hagrid heard a roar go up from the crowd behind them and asked if someone else had scored.
Harry said it would be Ravenclaw again.
Harry winced heavily and they all felt the same, maybe leaving had been a good idea anyways, that wasn't fun to think about.
Hagrid was so distracted, he said this was a good thing.
"Now I know he's not thinking right," Sirius grumped.
Hermione tried to turn into Hagrid's cabin when they passed it, but Hagrid kept walking right to the edge of the trees where his crossbow was waiting.
"He must have just come back from whatever he was training," Remus realized.
"Think he thinks he's finally got it domesticated and wants to show off?" James asked, that didn't feel important enough to be dragged away from Quidditch, but then, Hagrid had different priorities.
"I still think there's something more than that going on," Lily sighed. "It's very clear Hagrid cares deeply for something new going on, just training a new best can't really mean more than his job?" She phrased it as a question though, none of them were quite sure of Hagrid's comments from before.
Harry asked why he needed that, he hadn't taken it with him when they'd seen the Thestrals.
"This new thing of his is less and less encouraging," Sirius agreed.
Hagrid said they hadn't been going in as deep, and that was before Firenze left the Forest.
"Why's that change anything?" Remus asked in surprise.
Hermione asked why that made a difference.
"Thank you Sirius!" Remus said quickly and with such a mocking gratitude you could almost believe it. "Really, just thank you so much for sharing that, I hadn't a clue I'd done it!"
"Alright, no need to get snippy," Sirius smirked.
Hagrid said the other centaurs were now very riled up. It used to be he could go wherever he liked in this Forest, they were always friendly, but not anymore.
"What's that got to do with Hagrid though?" James ruffled up his brow.
"Familiar loyalty," Sirius nodded to himself as he explained aloud. "The centaurs know Hagrid's trust in Dumbledore, they'll blame anyone associated with him right now for what he asked a Centaur to do."
"But it was Firenze's decision," Harry protested. "Why be mad at us?"
"For offering it," Remus sighed.
Harry felt a deep chill web around his mind, promising he had no want to deal with an angry centaur.
Angry didn't cover it, they were livid with Dumbledore and Firenze, probably would have kicked their fellow centaur to death if Hagrid hadn't stepped in, he'd had half the herd on him.
They all gave sympathetic noises for that, Harry even saw some traces of fear in them at the same time. He could hardly imagine the scene himself, but just the thought was giving him the creeps, it probably was terrifying thinking about all this in detail when he wasn't so distracted wondering why he may have seen it in person.
Harry was amazed Hagrid had stopped all that, and Hagrid said he certainly couldn't have just stood by. Then he added more menacingly he'd have thought Firenze would remember that before sending stupid warnings.
"I'm worried he was trying to return a favor," Lily muttered, still considering Hagrid's injuries. They weren't yet deadly, but if he kept at it, they may keep progressing.
Hermione asked if that's what Hagrid wanted their help with, the centaurs?
"Oh he'd never ask for your help with that," Remus said at once.
"And those injuries started up well before this," Lily agreed.
Hagrid simply said no, and kept plunging deeper into the shadows. Harry wasn't too worried, he'd been in the Forest a few times and followed Hagrid willingly, until he stepped off the path. Remembering vividly what had happened in his past when he did this, he tried to ask where they were going, but Hagrid didn't answer as he plunged into the more wild parts of the woods. Harry and Hermione had a hard time following, often getting caught in thickets and brambles while Hagrid walked right through them.
"I'm surprised he hasn't created a new path, as often as he seems to have headed to this thing," James said, his eyes still narrowed suspiciously to what Hagrid had added to a Forest he knew so well.
After several miles of heavy silence where even the snapping of a twig felt ominous, it occurred to him that he had never managed to get this far into the Forest without meeting some kind of creature.
The tense unease kept growing in here, like the book was pressing that darkness out and shadowing the whole room with its eerie vibe. Harry had yet had a very pleasant experience in this Forest in any sense, and even with Hagrid inviting them into this one, they could already feel it wasn't going to turn out much better.
When Hagrid came to an abrupt halt, Harry walked right into him and fell back into a thorny bush Hermione had to dig him out of.
Hagrid apologized and decided to explain back here before they got to the spot, and began by saying there was a good chance he'd be getting the sack any day.
"He did not bring them all the way out there to say that," Sirius rolled his eyes.
"No," Remus agreed, "but we know he finds this more important than that, so at least we're finally getting that answer."
Hermione said he'd done well so far, what changed?
Hagrid said Umbridge thought he'd put that Niffler in her office.
"That's ridiculous," Remus scoffed at once, it was akin to him doing that, and he'd never put anything in her vicinity if he could help it.
"And when has she ever done anything remotely reasonable," Sirius' face was scrunched up for the ludicrousness of it even as he agreed.
Harry asked if it was before he'd thought about it.
"Harry," James said in exasperation, his son should know full well Hagrid would never use a creature for such a purpose.
"I know," Harry agreed with his idiotics. "Reflex question." This lot knew all about that.
Hagrid said no, but that hadn't convinced Umbridge, who associated any problems with creatures on him. He'd honestly leave now so that he wouldn't have to suffer in public like Trelawney had.
James didn't have to think about that one at all as he nodded in agreement, he could respect that.
He'd be useful to the Order out there helping Dumbledore.
"Hagrid knows where Dumbledore is?" That one caught Remus by surprise.
"I wouldn't be surprised if the Order actually does," Lily shrugged, "even if we're not sure now."
They had Grubbly-Plank to get them through their exams, his voice wobbled there and broke.
Lily felt a heartbreaking sigh pour out of her, she didn't want Hagrid to ever feel unneeded! She wanted him in her son's life just for being such a good man, no matter how he was in a class!
The problem was, he couldn't just leave without telling anyone, and he needed their help, and Ron's if he was willing.
Harry agreed at once asking what he needed them to do?
"You have such a big heart," Lily told her son, starting to feel a little teary eyed herself for what Hagrid was going through.
Harry had no response for that, he'd do anything to help his friend.
Hagrid thanked them tearfully, and led them the rest of the way.
"I thought he said he was going to explain!" Sirius said, the suspense was about to kill him. "He just stopped to tell them what was going on!"
"That's the same thing," Remus told him just to keep James paused for an extra second.
Sirius scowled at him, while James decided to ignore them anyways.
They reached a small clearing where a great mound was in front of them like a den, and all around were trees ripped up by the roots. Hagrid breathed sleeping, and Harry heard it too, a great set of lungs at work. He looked sideways at Hermione, who looked terrified.
"I don't blame her," Remus muttered, his mind flipping through all sorts of things that lived inside mounds, though as this could be something undiscovered even any of those may not be possible.
James was more in deep curiosity than anything. Hagrid was there, he had no fear Harry would come to any harm.
She asked who is he?
"Err," Lily began in confusion, sure she'd heard wrong.
Then she kept going, her voice shaking why he was here, Hagrid had said none wanted to come!
"What's, Hermione, on, about?" Sirius said slowly, he couldn't put together such a declaration with just an animal...
Harry looked to Hagrid, Hermione, and then realization struck as he looked back at the mounded earth, which in fact was moving in time with the deep breaths. It was a curved back.
"A giant!" Remus interrupted with a near shriek. "He actually brought a giant into that forest!"
James' voice had failed him, his mouth left hanging open so he couldn't have kept going even when the book had broken off. This truly was a new level of unbelievable.
"Has he lost his mind!" Sirius was so blown away by this one he wouldn't even deny the squeak in his voice. "A giant! A real, bloody, giant!"
Harry felt just as numb as the others from shock, but it was his fumbling fingers that snagged the book away to try and force this to keep going.
Hagrid agreed he hadn't exactly wanted to, but Hagrid had to bring him.
"It's his family," Lily whispered, her eyes still too wide from shock, but a flash of understanding lit them nonetheless.
"When he was at the Three Broomsticks," James recalled breathlessly.
"Oh Hagrid," Remus groaned in sudden understanding, genuine sympathy now for the man even if he couldn't find the air to really say it.
Sirius wasn't quite there yet, he was still putting his mind into the thought someday he'd walk into his Forest and a giant would be there!
Hermione demanded why!
Hagrid insisted that if he just spent a little time around here, taught him some manners, he could show everyone how harmless he was.
"Harmless!" Lily said near hysterics. "He's been beating the shit out of him for months!"
"Hasn't killed him yet though," Sirius couldn't help but point out as this started to fully form in his mind.
"Was that supposed to make me feel better?" Lily demanded, her voice wasn't lowering in volume and starting to hurt their ears.
Hermione accused this was why he was always injured. Hagrid defended he didn't know his own strength.
"That I'd actually believe," Remus said slowly, some form of acceptance starting to set in as he really thought past the shock.
Hermione still couldn't believe this was why he'd taken two extra months to get home!
"Yeah, I'd say lugging a giant behind you could slow you down!" Lily's voice was still extremely high pitched, but at least she was making an attempt to lower it now.
Hermione demanded why he had, he'd have been happier with his own kind!
Hagrid insisted he'd been picked on while there for being so small.
"Small." James repeated the word slowly, shaking his head back and forth as he was stuck in the same vision as Sirius, their forays into the Forest suddenly being interrupted by a giant crashing through a nearby tree, no one wanted to know how Moony would have reacted to that. Yet thankfully Harry reading was putting a good distance from that image, and James got the book back from Harry without fuss.
Hermione repeated small in near hysterics.
"I suppose, by that description, he's either not fully grown, or a runt," Remus nodded.
"Try telling him that," Harry muttered, his mind still boggled at such a huge movement as his breathing.
Hagrid pleaded with them to understand, near tears as he told that was his brother.
"That, is a relation, that makes sense," Lily grudgingly agreed, finally her voice only just a touch more off than usual, but sympathy for Hagrid's situation was finally pushing past the shock. It was the same as always, she trusted Hagrid. If he said his brother hadn't meant to hurt anyone, then she'd just have to believe he wasn't going to turn on her son the moment he awoke.
Well, half-brother, he amended. His mum had another child when she'd left his dad, Grawp here.
"Grawp?" Harry repeated curiously.
"Never claimed giants had our kind of names," Sirius shrugged, his brow still set deep in thought, but now he was almost back to normal and could appreciate Hagrid's position at least.
Harry wasn't sure he'd heard that right, and Hagrid said that's what he thought was being said when asked for a name. He didn't know much English, though Hagrid had been teaching him. His mother had abandoned Grawp as well for being so small, so he was all alone, he was only sixteen feet.
"Poor Hagrid," Lily went new, her voice now coming out in a whisper as now she felt like Hagrid needed a hug, after she popped him over the head for giving her heart failure.
Hermione's voice was still in shrieking shock as she said how miniscule that was!
"Who knew Hermione turned sarcastic during these times," Sirius muttered, he couldn't get a joke to his mind yet.
Hagrid insisted he was being kicked around by the others.
Harry asked what Maxime had thought of this, and Hagrid said she'd realized how important this was to him, but got tired of fighting to get him back, so she'd just promised not to tell anyone.
"Good woman, that," James sighed, knowing he'd probably have done the exact same as Maxime, he wouldn't pretend he'd try to handle a giant, even a...small one.
Harry asked how he'd even gotten back here. Hagrid explained they could only travel by night and very out of the way, Grawp could cover quite a bit of distance when he wanted to, the problem was he didn't, kept wanting to go back.
Harry gave a pitiful sigh, he didn't need to ask. He'd been kicked around plenty in his youth but had always returned home because he'd always known he had nowhere else to go. Hagrid seemed to have a gift for taking wayward souls away.
Hermione buried her face in her fingers as she asked why Hagrid hadn't just let him, what was he going to do with a violent giant?
Hagrid defended violent was too strong, he took a swing now and again when he was in a mood, but he was getting better.
Harry asked what the ropes were for then?
"Well if he was wanting to go back, I suppose I can see Hagrid stopping him leaving when he wasn't around," Sirius frowned heavily.
As Harry's eyes had adjusted and made out more detail, he found ropes binding the giants ankles and around his waist.
Hagrid repeated he didn't know his own strength, and Harry now understood why there were no other creatures in the area.
"Oh yeah, I can see that," James finally nodded at something that made sense to him in his forest.
Hermione circled back to asking what Hagrid wanted them to do?
"Almost forgot about that," Remus shivered, he didn't like the idea of Harry around...Grawp with Hagrid around, now Hagrid was asking them to keep looking after a hateful giant after Hagrid was gone! How was this worse than the Skrewts?
Hagrid just said he needed looking after, while Harry and Hermione exchanged an uncomfortable look, well aware they'd already promised Hagrid they would.
"I feel as if at some point there's a line, and he crossed it," Lily said miserably, as she wouldn't feel right backing out of this either even with the circumstances. "A bruised rib to Hagrid could knock your skeleton right out of you! I'm sorry Harry, but I'm worried this one's above you!"
Harry certainly wasn't going to argue the point.
Harry did not argue the point, and they were just as relieved as they were upset for Hagrid Harry didn't seem gung ho to keep this particular promise.
Hermione asked for details, and Hagrid said nothing too big. He got his own food, birds or deer that traveled through,
James looked vaguely offended, even if he knew it to be true. It just wasn't helping his mind's eye as he kept imagining trying to run away from this thing.
Hagrid really just wanted them to come out here and talk to him, help teach him along in talking.
Harry said nothing as he kept eying Grawp, picking out details. Now he saw that his feet were the size of sleds and bare, his clothes seemed roughly stitched together. His head was like a boulder sitting right atop his shoulders with his ears sitting more on the area where his neck should be.
Remus couldn't deny a touch of fascination in him at Harry's description. He'd only heard general depictions of them as well, and though he still had no want to meet one in person, Harry's were always more vivid than usual texts.
Harry hollowly repeated Hagrid's want for them to teach him English. He now understood what Firenze's warning had meant.
"I almost wish I didn't," Sirius grumbled, in this case ignorance had been bliss.
He could just imagine the other creatures of this Forest hearing Hagrid's vain attempts to teach Grawp English.
Hagrid agreed cheerfully, even if they just came out here to chat with him, keep him around people.
Harry looked to Hermione and said it made him wish for Norbert back.
Sirius blanched for a moment, but after considering he told, "no, actually this is still marginally better. I'll take whatever form of intelligence this thing posses over that beast."
"Wow," Harry said towards him, as of now he'd still rather have it the other way.
Hagrid misunderstood, confirming that they'd do it?
"He really didn't get that was supposed to be a bad thing?" James muttered, that concept seemed lost on Hagrid quite a bit.
Harry uneasily said they'd try-
Hagrid beamed at him, saying he'd known he could count on him!
Even as Lily shook her head in exasperation for Hagrid, she was smiling just a bit as well now. She couldn't deny some part of her was happy for Hagrid finally having a bit of family back to him.
He insisted it wouldn't be much, just nip out here once a week, then he decided to introduce them.
Hermione said that wasn't necessary!
"Well yes it is," Remus corrected. "Much safer to be first seen with Hagrid, at least he knows him."
"And considers him his kidnapper," James reminded hollowly. "So I'm really torn here."
Harry still didn't want to say what was really on his mind, he didn't really have a want to see Grawp again with or without Hagrid.
Hagrid ignored them, picked up a long sturdy branch, and jabbed Grawp in the back with it.
"He just poked a giant!" James said faintly, unable to believe what he'd just said and stuck on that one for several moments before Harry gave him a commiserating pat on the shoulder that was probably supposed to be reassuring.
Grawp woke with an ear splitting roar that shook birds from trees. He got onto his knees to turn around and see who was here, and Hagrid greeted him as Grawpy, telling he'd brought company.
Harry and Hermione backpedaled as far as they could while keeping him in sight, as his face leaned in like a dull grey full moon.
All three Marauders blanched in shock at the description they weren't taking kindly too.
His features seemed misshapen, the nose of no real design, the hair looking more like moss even a dark brown, and his pupils were rather tiny and currently still cummed with sleep. He took to his feet with surprising agility and turned away.
"Don't ever underestimate speed for size," Remus agreed, James wanting to smack him for starting to sound more interested than resigned like the rest of them.
He went over to the nearest tree and plucked a birds nest up out of the higher branches, turning it upside down and pelting them with eggs like grenades below.
"I can see how riveted he was by the company," James said deadpan.
"Be pleased while it lasts," Lily grumbled, at least finding some small comfort Grawp hadn't at once started trying to take Hagrid's limb off.
Hagrid tried to keep his attention, yelling to Grawp about that trip he'd be going on, and these were his new friends who'd be coming to visit him.
"I thought he couldn't understand English quite yet," Sirius shifted uneasily.
"I can see why Hagrid does it though," Remus shrugged, "that's one of the ways you learn other languages, hearing them as well as practicing to speak them."
"Oh, so now it's a good idea," James frowned at him.
"I'm not saying Harry should do it," Remus defended, "I just understand why Hagrid is talking to him."
Grawp took no notice, Harry wasn't even sure if the giant recognized what Hagrid was doing was speech. He'd instead sized the nearest tree and began pulling on the top, the fascination on his face making it clear he did it for the simple pleasure of seeing how far he could go before it would spring back.
"Exactly how old is he?" Lily asked.
"Not sure," Harry muttered, "I only know what Hagrid said."
"He could be older than Hagrid, we don't know which kid came first, though I think Hagrid assumed it was himself." Remus shrugged.
"Either way, I don't see what that has to do with anything," Sirius muttered.
Lily considered this response more to do with the fact Sirius would probably try to do the same thing if he was that size no matter what age.
Hagrid tried to tell him not to, that's how he'd pulled up the last ones, but when the creaking roots could be heard, Hagrid intervened and gave him another jab with the stick.
Grawp looked down with an expression of clear annoyance as Hagrid waved to Harry and Hermione. Grawp only just seemed to realize their presence as he gazed down at them still half hidden behind a tree.
"How good is a giant's eye sight?" Harry asked wearily, he wasn't going to enjoy the experience of one checking out his hairline.
"As good as ours I'd imagine," Remus scratched at his ear. "Perhaps better, as they hunt more naturally than we do."
He introduced Harry first, and tried to do the same for Hermione, but realized her full name may be beyond him, so asked her if he could call her Hermy.
Hermione gave a squeaky agreement.
"I know I would have protested," Sirius sniffed. "If my name was the first four syllable word he'd said, it could be an accomplishment."
Hagrid introduced Hermy to Grawp,
"So does that mean we can start calling her-"
"No," Harry told Sirius flatly before he could even finish.
saying she was going to come out here as well and, Grawp no!
James nearly jumped from his chair in surprise, he hadn't intended to shout that so loud but he'd just been getting back to a place of normalcy in his mind as he adjusted to this situation, now Hagrid was scolding him!
Grawp's hand had shot out of nowhere and tried to seize Hermione, but Harry reacted a moment faster and pulled her back behind the tree as Grawps palm scraped against the bark but seized on air.
Lily gasped, watching Harry's arms tense at his side now like he was prepared to pull her away again.
Hagrid scolded he was being a bad boy, not to grab, while Hermione clung to Harry whimpering.
"Oh, he wouldn't have really hurt her!" Remus tried, and failed to say even as he'd gone a bit white in shock. "He might have just been trying to pick her up, out of curiosity-"
"And look how well that's worked out for Hagrid," Harry shuddered all over.
Then Hagrid let out his own yelp of pain, and Harry poked his head back out to see Grawp had swatted Hagrid away and gone back to his tree.
"Good to know of his attention span I suppose," James tried to say around a squeak, there was just no way he could find some fun in this one.
Hagrid stumped over to them holding his newly broken nose, saying that was enough for one day.
Some color finally started coming back to James' face, Lily was still rubbing at her chest, and the other three were still trying hard not to show they were shaking. A giant. This was a new level, even for Hagrid...
They began walking away, Harry and Hermione still struck dumb. Hagrid actually wanted them to come visit a giant in the Forbidden Forest and pointlessly teach him English?
"Now that's pushing it," Remus couldn't quite push into scolding as he was still shifting his weight in unease. "You heard Hagrid say he had full conversations with them, they can be spoken to as well as a Centaur if you give them half a chance, this one in particular just never seems to have been put into any type of situation like this."
Harry looked at him like he wasn't sure what to say to that. He'd put up with a lot of crazy things for Hagrid, and this one still felt like the worst.
Harry had never understood Hagrid's insistence the most killing things were lovable and harmless, but this was a new one fooling himself Grawp could mix with humans.
"That one is stretching it just a touch," Sirius agreed. "He'd be just fine spending his days in a far off proximity, but not unapproachable, if Hagrid shows we're not all bad." He couldn't quite put the right tone into place, he still wanted to rage at Hagrid for putting a giant into the Forbidden Forest! If the name hadn't been appropriate before, it was now!
Then Hagrid took them both by surprise by drawing his crossbow and fitting an arrow in.
"There's a giant in the forest," Lily enunciated clearly like they already would have forgotten. "I can't imagine something much scarier, and Hagrid hadn't pulled a weapon on him."
Even still, James was back to bouncing his leg with unease. He knew plenty of things Harry could expect in there, and it was good for Hagrid to be on guard, they seemed far enough away from Grawp this was necessary.
They waited in tense silence until a male voice told Hagrid he was no longer welcome here.
"Can the Centaurs do that?" James protested in further outrage, that was somehow even more offensive to him than the giant.
"By our laws, no," Remus said carefully. "The Forest is property of the school, so it's technically Hogwarts land...but the Centaurs may well recognize no such thing. It's rather a conflict that's never had to be brought up in our history, for we've never fought over the space."
"That Forest has been there since Hufflepuff sanctioned it back when the castle was being built," Sirius offered to Harry.
"The stories are unclear though, if the Centaurs were already in the area, or if the Hogwarts Founders created it and they claimed it," James sighed.
Lily was honestly impressed at their history lesson, and so apparently was Harry as he tried to keep focus on this and told them how interesting that was even as he kept looking worriedly at nothing. He didn't like this set up, Grawp not too far off, angry centaurs...
A whole group of centaurs had arrived, including one Harry recognized as Bane. Hagrid wearily greeted the foremost, Magorian, who gave no friendly greeting back, repeating Hagrid was no longer welcome here after he'd helped the traitor Firenze enter servitude.
Hagrid protested this, saying he was doing a favor for Dumbledore!
"There is no point arguing this," James said tensely. Even having Hagrid describe the fight before had made him uneasy, now Harry may well find himself in the middle of it.
"Hagrid won't really start something," Lily tried to say with conviction, "he'll get them out of there, he's been dealing with this for a while now at least."
The centaur said there was no coming back from such disgrace, and Hagrid had lost the friendship of the centaurs by helping him, he was no longer welcome in their forest.
Hagrid shot back he wasn't going to be hearing any of this 'their'. It wasn't their say who came and went here.
Magorian cut in no more than Hagrid's. He'd let him pass today because he was with his young,
"His young," James couldn't help but mutter that a second time, though they'd all long since noticed Hagrid seemed to have as unofficially adopted the kids as much as Molly had.
Bane interrupted they were not his, but students, profiting from the teachings of the traitor Firenze!
"I would not call his vague life's a mystery speech profiting," Sirius rolled his eyes.
"Not helping," Remus hissed at him.
Magorian did not waver, they did not hurt the innocent. Hagrid may pass today, but this was his final warning.
Hagrid shouted he wasn't going to let these mules tell him where he could and couldn't go.
They all began itching terribly in fear of this fight. It was probably easier not being there, but they could see both sides in light, and didn't care about either! They just wanted Harry to get out of there!
The centaurs turned to leave anyways, but Hagrid kept shouting after them he wasn't going to let them scare him off. Harry and Hermione put their hands on Hagrid's back to try and force him to move along, but then he glanced down in surprise like he hadn't even felt it.
"Bloody hell," James blinked in surprise. Not that they'd ever tried, but they'd have liked to think Hagrid would have at least registered the two!
He told them to calm down, they wouldn't really do anything, then he took off again as if nothing had happened.
Hermione uneasily kept pace, trying to say to Hagrid that if the centaurs weren't letting people come through, than the three of them wouldn't be much help to Grawp.
Hagrid brushed this off, repeating their own words they wouldn't hurt the innocent. Besides, they shouldn't let those centaurs push them around.
"I see where he's coming from," Sirius said genuinely, he knew he'd have a few things to say if a centaur had ever told them off for being caught in there.
"But while I admire Hagrid for not letting them push him around," James grudgingly agreed, "it wouldn't kill him not to insult them while he's at it!"
"A little avoidance can go a long way," Remus agreed, knowing Hagrid knew this place well enough he should be able to pass by Centaur heavy areas just like they could.
Harry watched all of them with a small smile of pride in place. As if he'd needed further evidence they weren't still fifteen, but here they were actually speaking of avoiding a real life fight.
Harry told Hermione nice try at her disappointment this hadn't made a dent in Hagrid.
They rejoined the daylight to see people pouring out of the stadium laughing and cheering,
James spluttered in surprise, he'd actually forgotten a game was going on!
"Well, I found something to cheer me up next time Ron's goal keeping is mentioned," Sirius groaned. "Teaching ABC's to a giant!"
and Hagrid told them to hurry along into that so they wouldn't be missed, then he went to his cabin. Harry and Hermione trudged back looking distinctly out of place with their numerous tiny cuts and twigs in their hair, but Hermione took no notice of this as she said she couldn't believe him!
"Oh I do," Lily sighed. In Hagrid's...inflated world, she really did see where he was coming from, but did he have to drag Harry into this one?
Harry tried to get her to calm down, but she wouldn't hear it. A giant in the Forest! He wanted them to teach English to it, assuming they could get past the murderous centaurs!
"I think the centaurs scare me more than the giant!" Remus shivered harder than ever to prove his point.
"That didn't make me feel better," Harry told him, a still rather distracted look in place as he had no clue why he agreed with him.
Harry tried to say they didn't have to do anything yet, and Umbridge might not-
Hermione cut him off to say of course she'd get rid of him, and after this who could blame her!
"I can!" They yelped in protest. It was very clear Harry wasn't the only one losing his temper this year if Hermione was going to be saying nonsense like that!
There was a pause in which Harry glared at her, and her eyes filled slowly with tears.
"At least she regretted it," James sighed, letting go of his anger the moment he read that. Hermione did care, she was just scared, they all were at this news.
She admitted she didn't mean that, but the rest of her words were cut off by singing.
Insert Gryffindor version of Weasley is Our King.
James paused with his head cocked to the side in confusion, his wild hair looking more flyaway than ever as he shook it and told them he hadn't read that wrong. Hardly daring to pretend to understand the mix up, he kept going in a slow, forced calm voice.
Hermione began miserably she wished they'd stop gloating, it was already bad enough, but then Harry whispered it wasn't the Slytherin's singing as the edited lyrics continued.
"No, way," Sirius whispered, his eyes now locked on James with nothing else going through his ears.
"They, used the lyrics," Remus spluttered, a grin spreading across his mouth more from surprise than actual pleasure hitting him yet.
James ignored them both, Lily and Harry were still sitting there with their mouths open in shock as he practically shouted the rest.
Hermione whispered no in surprise, Harry shouted yes in excitement, and Ron caught sight of both of them atop many people's shoulders and shouted about their win!
Lily squealed in triumph, clapping and bouncing in place as they all began laughing and cheering loudly. The damn broke, James hardly wanted to finish he was dancing around in so much excitement, but he also couldn't have stopped yelling the words in triumph no matter how hard he tried!
They beamed up at him as he passed. There was a scrum at the door of the castle and Ron's head got rather badly bumped on the lintel,
Sirius laughed so hard he nearly fell out of his seat and banged his own head on the table, and no one stopped to notice that either in their fusing excitement. They didn't have to keep worrying about Grawp right now, this was something so immensely good instead!
They waited until the large cheering crowd had stormed past before turning back to each other, their smiles fading a bit.
Harry said they'd tell him tomorrow.
"You are the best friend ever," Remus assured Harry, or at least tried to over the din. No one would want to be the one to tell all this to Ron in such a glorious moment.
Hermione agreed as they headed up to the party, but both stopped at the door and looked back, wondering if it was their imagination a bunch of birds shooting into the sky far off into the Forest, as if something had just tried to pull up their tree by its roots.
James hardly paid this any mind, the giant wasn't actually hurting anything in the forest yet, but this was wonderful!
"I can't believe you missed that!" Sirius shouted right in Harry's ear, and he hardly even noticed. "You, you actually missed the Quidditch Cup, and they won!"
"I'm sorry, okay," Harry raised his hands in defence even as he couldn't straighten up in his seat from his shoulders shaking too hard. "I know Ron'll make sure I hear every last thing!"
James suddenly didn't want to give the book up to Sirius. This was fantastic! So many bad things had happened this year, but he was actually hoping this was a pattern that was going to keep going, and with his luck Sirius was probably going to get to read about something happening to Umbridge finally. Surely Grawp was the worst thing to happen to Harry the rest of the year.

*This is one of those spells I genuinely question, why? If you just want to transfigure the cup, then you're in the wrong class. If the goal is for the cup to sprout legs to bring you, like a sugar bowl or something, levitate it to you. This...is just so entirely random to be an actual spell being practiced in class!

Proof that Dumbledore planned Harry's traumatic childhood. (Part 2)
I. The Potter's Dead
B. The Secret Keeper
1. Dumbledore had originally offered himself to be the Potter’s secret keeper. I don’t think James and Lily trusted him, considering they would then feel that they owed something to Dumbledore since he was doing this big favor for him.
2. James was also adamant on Sirius being the secret keeper and insisted that Sirius would die rather than betray them (I am a devoted Sirius fan and I KNOW that this would have been the case. They were as good as brothers and he would have never given them up to Voldemort).
3. So Sirius became the secret-keeper and the Potter family went into hiding.
4. In between this point and when the switch was made, I believe that Dumbledore put something into Sirius’s head about how obvious it would be that he was the secret keeper for the Potters. Especially because of him and James’s friendship.
5. This likely was the reason that Sirius wanted to switch to Peter (since he was the less obvious choice). He also claimed that he thought it would be less likely that Death Eaters/Voldemort would go after him.
He also believed that they were throwing Voldemort off the scent since he would likely hunt down Sirius and try to force the information out of him.
6. At this time, Sirius thought Remus was the spy (and Remus thought Sirius was) so Remus was not informed of the switch. He still thought Sirius was the secret keeper.
-Sirius thought Remus was the spy because Dumbledore kept sending him on missions to recruit the werewolf colonies for their side. I think Remus did these out of obligation because Dumbledore had given him the opportunity to attend Hogwarts.
-Dumbledore knew that Remus would go on these missions because of this. Remus was as much a pawn in the war as the others were.
7. The Fidelius Charm can only be broken if the Secret Keeper VOLUNTARILY tells someone where the place is located. This further fuels my anger because people genuinely thought that Sirius would give up the location of his BEST FRIEND that took him in when he ran away from home.
8. I don’t think it is ever mentioned who cast the charm itself, but considering it was Dumbledore’s idea I believe that he did. Therefore, he would have known about the switch between the Secret Keepers because he would have had to recast the charm.
9. I believe that Dumbledore knew Pettigrew was the spy for Voldemort. Especially because Snape supposedly was a spy also and he definitely knew Peter from school and would have seen him at meetings (and if they had to wear masks then he at least would have recognized the voice at meetings). Also Dumbledore was a Legilimens.
10. Peter told Voldemort where the Potter family was hidden and then Oct. 31, 1981 happened.

Into the Unknown (The Big, Big Bang; Part 1.)
Series summary: Sometimes, you might feel lonely in the entirety of the universe; of all of the stars, planets and constellations... Until it comes. The big bang that turns the world upside down, the reason why all the stars collide and why you, in the first place, are alive.
Part summary: Remus wasn’t as social as you’d maybe assume when you’d got to know him. Yet althrough his personal struggles, for some reason, Dumbledore had chosen him as his new DADA teacher.
A/N: Okay, this is more or less the first, informative, get-into-the-story chapter and there’s not much happening at the moment. I swear, we will pump it up, just give it at least two parts.

If you'd ever put a piece of parchment, inkwell and a goose quill and asked Remus John Lupin do describe himself with a few sentences, the parchment would be empty for a few minutes before he'd settle on one small word: a loner. He was alone for quite a time, he wasn't too attracted by the idea of a human accompany; after everything that happened with Sirius, James and Peter, he wasn't quite sure if he would be able to connect with a someone new at the time of speaking. The second word he'd most probably used would be ill - then, he would cross the word and write 'seriously ill' instead.
There wasn't a lot of people who knew what Lupin was going through or what kind of illness he was diagnosed with thanks to hiding away at the edge of every thinkable society; his bad state was visible just from looking at him. His skin was dry and almost transparent almost all the time and when his illness was getting the best of him, he even appeared lightly green. His hair was slowly thinning out as he grew older, but it still wasn't as bad as it could be. The only thing that remained the same over the last few decades were his eyes.
The last sentence he would write would most likely say 'down to earth'. It was a rather generous name for not having much money, always looking shabby and, as some wizards or witches would say, second-like hand. Not that Lupin would be proud of what he was looking like, but there weren't many things he could with it - wizards with his sort of 'illness' rarely got a good job proposition if they ever ended up having one.
For everything that was stated above and far more, it was a miracle when he got approached with a job offers from one of the most well-respected, smartest and brilliant wizard of all time, Album Dumbledore himself. The old man found him hidden away in Yorkshire, living in one tumbledown, semi-derelict cottage at the line of poverty itself. Remus felt like he didn't have the right to complain; he was a damn werewolf. And thanks to the small reminder spoiling his whole face, everyone who could order him something to do for a living knew about this aspect of his life way sooner than Remus would've liked them to.
The night Dumbledore had walked into his humble home, he barely got one shirt that held together without patches; most of his clothes was patched up already - all of his trousers and coats surely. At first, he vehemently dismissed Dumbledore's wish for Lupin working at his school as a DADA teacher. What Dumbledore was suggesting was pure madness. Remus always thought he's a calm and tolerable man - yet when Albus told him everything that he was asking of him, Remus almost lost it.
Yes, of course - there were the mad werewolves like Fenrir Greyback who hunt children down just for sport and making sure that more and more people would be carrying this sick curse. Lupin hated these sons of bitches the most. He himself was one of their victims in the end. And Albus Dumbledore, the most brilliant man Lupin had ever met, one of the few that Lupin had real respect for was asking him to be a teacher at the biggest wizarding school in all of England, Ireland and Scotland? No. That was an offer that couldn't be accepted, that was pure madness. He would never willingly get near such a cluster of young people who were full of dreams and had their lives ahead of themselves. What would happen if he would lose control? How many people would get hurt because of one slip? Did Dumbledore realize how many things he was betting by asking Remus such thing?
But to Remus' surprise, Albus smiled dismissively and stood up from his half-broken-down sofa. With a serious face, Dumbledore had told him that now, he had a professor who could brew the perfect Wolfsbane potion every month and according to Albus, this said the professor was a potions master and genius. However, if Lupin wouldn't trust himself as much to spend the night of wolfing out inside the Forbidden Forest, there still was the Shrieking shack, just like Remus used to remember it. As a small topic for consideration, Albus left there a small bag with thirty Galleons laying on the coffee table, so Lupin could at least buy himself the most basic needs - whether he would take the job offer or not, the money was his to use, to keep or to give to someone else.
After that, Albus left the cottage. He knew what he was doing and what Remus is capable of. When Albus was leaving, he was smiling and humming a jolly song; he knew very well that he's leaving Remus with his thoughts alone and he knew very well that this lycanthropic wizard had one of the biggest potentials for teaching Albus had ever encountered.
Everything got sealed on one dark August night. It was mostly the idea of him and Black meeting that made Remus send an express letter to Hogwarts. Sirius Black, the insane wizard that had murdered twelve muggles and his very own best friend, had escaped from Azkaban. Anyone could tell how he had done it, anyone knew where he was and what was he planning to do. Yet Remus had the feeling he should be counting on Sirius visiting him; in the end, Black already murdered one of their small group of friends and helped with murdering the second one... Remus had the feeling that Black might be wanting to finish what had happened in 1981 and for that, he accepted Dumbeldore's proposition. He was to be one of the Hogwarts teachers.
During the rest of the summer and hiding away, Lupin started to study the materials for each year he was to teach; back in his school days, he was one of the greatest students Hogwarts had seen. There was rarely a test in which Lupin got worse than Exceeding Expectations. It was mostly caused by his natural interest in the art of wizardry and by Remus' gratefulness - Dumbeldore let him study like every other normal student and prevented him from hurting anyone else during the full moon. And DADA? Dear Merlin, he always had a deep appreciation for this class. One of his biggest DADA achievements was that he could cast the Patronus Charm without too much of a trouble. Also... The creatures were quite brilliant and before Lupin could comprehend, he was looking forward to sharing his knowledge with all of the young people in Hogwarts.
At the same time, he realized that he will be there. Son of James and Lily Potter. His name was Harry and he had last seen when he was smaller than Lupin's forearms. He was nothing more than a sweet, laughing boy covered in one big blanket. How old was he now? Twelve? Thirteen? Remus couldn't even count it down properly, he just knew that the boy's going to be there once be starts his teaching career.
As to be expected, the safety precautions around Hogwarts got more intense - Nd so did everywhere else. Lupin was especially aware of that once a Dementor harassing a black-hearted boy had woken him up. And to his realization, it was Harry Potter himself who got into trouble. The most logical thing that came to mind was to talk to the staff and to make sure there are no more dementors inside the train.
Yet once he made sure the train was safe, he couldn't bring himself to go back to the coupe and rather stayed in the corridors on a watch, trying to ensure the safety inside the train. His mind, on the other hand, was racing - James' son, his murdered best friend's son, was inside and he looked just like James. Except for the eyes. Those were, without a doubt, Lily's. Lupin didn't expect such a low blow on his very first day. At that moment, he promised himself to be better. He promised himself that he'd teach the kids everything he knew; and he was particularly excellent in this subject, so the kids had.
The first days at school were... Good. Lupin wasn't particularly all over the place because he wasn't quite comfortable with the all-the-time type of company. The other teachers tried to talk to him, to make him feel good about himself and the purpose of his staying inside the school's walls and he didn't avoid the introduction where the whole Great hall had given him short applause.
McGonagall, who was sitting next to him, persisted on Remus calling her "Minerva" and every time he dared to call her Mrs professor, she gave him a furrowed look, correcting him in her straight-to-the-point type of voice. Madame Pomfrey was also fond of seeing him after such a long time in a pretty good shape and Hagrid tried his absolute best to behave; there was still quite a lot of memories inside other's minds that connected him with Sirius and Remus could understand the worried looks and careful words. Needless to say, the whole feast was delicious as it usually was in Hogwarts and after such a long and draining day, he was glad to walk the quiet and dark halls before he took off to his room, located close to the DADA schoolroom to have some proper and certainly refreshing sleep.
First classes after the feast in the Great hall were the worst for Remus. There were new faces to remember, a lot whole more of names and... At first, he was lost when it came to some of the students. The name of Justin Flinch-Fletchey didn't crawl into his brain until the end of the first week; however, there were people of whom he was very aware against his better judgement.
One of them was Harry and his two friends, Hermione and Ronald - no matter what they said or did, they always looked there are about to cause some mischief. This, of course, could be only a feeling inside of Lupin's guts; yet from other professors, he listened to the wild stories about the past two years; all of which had Potter himself in the centre. Another student he was keeping his eyes on was Neville Longbottom, the son of Alice and Frank. The fates of his parents were heartbreaking and growing up with his grandmother, who was a persistent and unpleasant woman at times, had to be hard for such a gentle soul. There were moments when Lupin could see glimpses of his own uncertainty and shyness in Neville's words. At last, there was a girl from Hufflepuff named Rosamunda who caught his eye simply because her mother was one of his former schoolmates.
Kids who caught his attention naturally without having some sorts of a past connection with him were Fred and George Weasley who were friends with Lee Jordan, another Griffindor student - they were quite a loud and jolly party who, when the topic was right, had a lot of questions and were very curious about the subject. On the other hand, when they didn't have one of those days, they could be annoying, to say the least. Another girl, Heather from Ravenclaw, had caught his eye simply because of her unusually deep interest in DADA. There were no students who would give him any sorts of trouble, which was also a win. As Lupin got a hold on his classes step by step, it suddenly didn't seem to be so out worldly that he'd have the potential to be a teacher - and a good one.
Sure, there were concerns expressed by others member of the staff, especially by Snape, that were regarding his lycanthropy. Yet as Dumbledore had sworn to him, everyone was doing their best when it came to that - madame Pomfrey made sure that the Shrieking shack is at the disposal all the time, Snape was brewing the potions even though his mostly anti-Lupin agenda and Dumbledore himself sworn to him that if there would be a situation in which a student was to be harmed, he himself would prevent that.
Everything seemed to be falling in its place.
It was the break between the noon and afternoon classes in which Lupin was to assigned to have a patrol on the small courtyard opposite the Great hall where some students took their lunches so they could spend some time out in the open before the weather gets bad. And the occupation of the courtyard was quite big - some students were just taking a short break and played Exploding snap throughout, the Weasley twins were throwing some kind of small, non-burning fireworks at each other and there were even people who simply chatted the whole period away. Lupin himself was quietly standing in one of the corners, leaning into a wall dressed in one of his shabby sweaters and ate an apple while overseeing the whole situation.
There was a moment where he didn't notice it at all - someone had crashed into a group of three students, taking two of them down onto the ground. It was hard to see what was happening there since there was quite a lot of people in the way. The only thing he could see were people picking off the ground as another person was running off inside the castle. Honestly, he didn't know where to jump first - if he should go to help the students laying on the ground. - "I am so sorry! I will buy you a lollipop or something!" - The woman who jumped at them yelled over her shoulder and disappeared inside the castle. He could only see a grey sweater, long black pants and her hair flow in the wind as she ran for... For an unknown reason.
The only thing he had seen was her back, he could hear her yelling some nonsense at the students and even though, it knocked the apple out of his hand as he looked at her disappearing. There was something. Remus couldn't exactly name it, but there was some energy about her. Yet in the end, he walked to the group to check on them, letting the woman disappear inside.

SHINE ON MOONY

Title: Shine on Moony

"You think the dead we loved ever truly leave us?"
~
The snow from this winter hadn't even come close to melting. The slushy snow wasn't that pleasant when you have three little ones running around. Harry was happy to come to the Burrow for their week off. Ginny had convinced the Head of the Daily Prophet to let her a week off for the celebration of Remus Lupin's birthday. Harry and Ron had gotten a week's vacation as well.
After the war, the whole family had decided to celebrate each and every family member who had died in the war's birthdays. It was supposed to make it seem like they were still alive. But Harry found himself getting the nightmares of war again.
Damn that stupid scar, he thought. No, a little voice in his head said. That voice, as Harry thought of it, was either Dumbledore, or Sirius. Not stupid. Did you have to grow up earlier than others? Yes. But it made you stronger man Harry.
Harry shook his head. That was the Dumbledore voice speaking. He looked out the window of Number 12 Grimgauld Place. He remembered seeing Death Eaters outside when he, Ron, and Hermione came here. He shook off the memories once more. They only brought back feelings of guilt and sacrifice.
"Harry are you ready to go?" Ginny asked from the kitchen. Harry stood up and watched as she carried Lily in. Albus Followed behind.
"Yeah. Albus? Lily? Are you two excited?" They nodded excitedly.
"Are Hugo and Rose coming?" They changed. Ginny nodded.
"Yes! I have some muggle toys I want to show Hugo. It's called a Yo-Yi. Right Mum?" Lily pointed at her bag happily.
"I think you mean an Yo-Yo. " Harry corrected. They laughed and took the Floo to the Burrow.
"Harry! Ginny! Children!" Shouted Mrs. Weasley as she hugged them each. "It's been ages!"
"Mum we came over on Sunday! Two days ago!" Ginny said laughing.
"Hello you four! James is at Hogwarts isn't he?" Said Mr. Weasley as he too hugged them each.
"Yeah. He wanted to come with Teddy, but McGonagall gave him detention again." Harry informed.
"Oh just like his uncle i pan,t he?" They turned around to see George smiling.
"Uncle George!" The kids hugged him. "What kind of trick do you have today?"
"I have many! But I think you guys would rather play with Rose and Hugo." He said as Ron, Hermione, Rose, and Hugo came in through the Floo. Quickly followed by Andromeda, and a miserable looking Teddy.
"The doorways' getting a little crowded Mum. Maybe we should get to the living room?" Said Ginny as everyone walked to the living room. Lily, Rose, Hugo, and Albus went to play with their 'Yo-Yi's' as everyone else sat down.
"Teddy was wondering," Andromeda said when everyone was a little quiet, "if instead of having the usual toast, we can maybe describe what Remus was? Teddy, you can take it from here."
"I want to know who he was." He said quietly. "What kind of person he was."
Teddy reminded Harry a lot of himself as a child. A little lost, a little found. Knowing one side and curious about the other. He was very intelligent like his father but also stubborn and kind hearted like Tonks. Teddy was a lot of things. Teddy, now seventeen, was a very tall metamorphagous. Well, tall for now.
"I don't know much about my father. And I know you all know him better than me. I've actually thought about asking you guys this before, but I never really had try courage to. So I want everyone to take turns and say what made my father so special. Grandma already told me what she thinks so now let's start with Grandma Weasley."
"Oh what a lovely idea dear, " Mrs. Weasley wiped her tears. "Remus was most definitely the bravest people I've ever known. He was caring, kind, and very helpful. He was self-conscious sometimes, with him being a werewolf and all, but he was definitely one of the kindest person I'be ever met." She sat down.
Teddy nodded smiling. "Grandpa Weasley?"
"Remus Lupin was one of those people who would never, ever break your trust. He was the most trustworthy person. Dumbledore trusted him. And it's not easy to gain Dumbledore's trust." He sat down.
"Uncle George?"
"Remus, or Professor Lupin was one of the most brilliant person I've ever met. He made the Marauders' Map. A gem he was. I bet Fred's playing cards with him right this instance. They're holey you know. He was the master prankster. Moony will shine on." And he sat down. Harry turned to see Mrs. Weasley and Hermione in tears. Ginny was trying to hide her face.
"Aunt Ginny?"
"I wasn't as close to Remus as I was with Sirius, so I'm going to say this behalf of what Sirius told me about Remus. I remember he told me this when I was fifteen and I can just picture Sirius laughing and Remus getting angry yet embarrassed. They told me not to tell anyone, but I don't think they'll mind if it's for Teddy. Sirius told me about the time Remus kissed him." Harry smirked. Sirius had told him this too in a letter during the summer before his fourth year. The others started giggling, and Andromeda looked a little concerned.
"Bloody hell! They had to be drunk!" Ron chimed in.
"Ron! The kids will hear you!" ️Hermione said.
"I got the kids!" And George was off with his magic tricks.
"Don't worry Mrs. Tonks, and Ron they were drunk. And I'm pretty sure Tonks already knew. It was in their fifth year and Gryffindor had one their house cup. They just had too many bottles of Firewhiskey. Sirius also told many more stories, but I think those are more private. Maybe we'll talk after everyone else goes." She sat down.
"Err...sure. Aunt Hermione?" Hermione sniffed as she stood up.
"Professor Lupin was the only Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher who wa actually good. He taught actual, rel defense against the dark arts. He helped me get over my fear of faliur and was not only a great teacher, but an intelectual motivator." She sat down.
"Ron?" Ron stood up.
"Wow. After all the amazing speeches, if you will, I haven't got much left to say. However, I will say this: Remus was a loving father. He loved you Ted. He would've been the best father, even better than me, even better than my dad. Why? Because of all the things he's been through. You were the best gift he ever got. Okay, maybe not as close to Tonks, but if he were here right now, he'd be the happiest man on earth. He would be happy to see how well you've been raised...Bloody hell! I've spent too much time around Hermione! See what your coversations about me being a more serious father has done?"
Ron turned to Hermione who was blushing furiously. She mumbled something about him taking her too seriously as they sat down.
"Thanks Uncle Ron. Now, Uncle Harry." Harry's hands were sweaty. He remembered what his parents had told him in front of the Mirror of Erised when he came across it after the war: "Raise the lost as your own."
"Remus Lupin was...He was..." He knew what Remus was but couldn't say it properly. "He didn't deserve to die. No one in the war did. And I'll tell you only one thing. One thing he said...in a dream of mine." Harry had never told anyone about the Ressurection Stone. except Ginny, who he knew would never tell anyone. "In my...err dreams, yeah. He told me this 'he will know why I died and I hope he will understand. I was trying to make a world in which he could live a happier life.' I think that he's still here. The dead are always around. They never truly leave us. You can always find them," he touched Teddy's heart, "in here. Remember that."

there are so many plot holes in Peter’s betrayal IT’S INSANE
okay! hello! can I just rant for a minute? I’m writing a fic that spans from the beginning of the marauders’ years at Hogwarts to Remus and Sirius’ last days together and I’m trying to lay down the timeline of the first war right now, and
nothing! about! jk rowling’s plot! makes! sense!
(apologies in advance for spelling mistakes I’m drunk and tired, but let’s gO)
Problem 1: The Potters
JK has two conflicting timelines of when the Potters go into hiding:
Timeline 1:
the Potters go into hiding immediately after Lily becomes pregnant
this means they went into hiding around October 1979 and stayed in hiding for two years until they died in October 1981
that’s a long ass time! a loooooong ass time! you’re telling me they were locked in their house for two years?? that means they only served in the Order for a little over a year which makes no sense because...
Problem 1: Somebody took a photo of the Order in July of 1981 and James and Lily were in it. Why would they have left their newborn baby at home (or taken him with them!) to go to Order headquarters and take a photo for an organization they hadn’t been a part of for almost two years?
Problem 2: In Lily’s letter to Sirius, written around August of 1981, a month after the photo was taken, she reports being in hiding and says that James is starting to get antsy not being able to go anywhere which implies they JUST went into hiding and are still getting used to being stuck in the house
Timeline 2:
Based on all the information above, the Potters must have gone into hiding early to mid-July in 1981, after the Order photo was taken and before Harry’s birthday  on July 31st (Lily mentions in her letter that Harry celebrated his first birthday in hiding). This would make sense because if Peter was already working for Voldemort (which Sirius claims he was in POA) then it wouldn’t take him very long to betray them to Voldy, and so them being in hiding for only three months before they were killed is very reasonable. So this timeline that I’ve just described must be J.K.’s second timeline, right?? that would make sense, right? WRONG. Nothing makes sense in this world, you fool.
timeline two ACTUALLY says that the Potters had to go into hiding “at the time of Harry’s christening”
which like?? what??? his christening? okay. I guess Lily was devoutly religious because Christianity sure didn’t seem to be a big thing among the purebloods (what this reads like to me, though, is another example of JK Rowling trying to weirdly inject Christianity into the Harry Potter books while ignoring all other religions, but that’s for another time) ((fyi I have no issues with Christianity or blending religion and fantasy but her usage of it is odd and noncommittal))
christenings usually happen anywhere from a few weeks to six months after the baby’s birth depending on your sect, situation, e.t.c
this would mean that the Potters went into hiding around late summer-early fall of 1980
THIS would mean that the cast the Fidelius charm for a year before their death
this seems more likely than the first scenario, but all of the problems listed above with the picture and the inconsistencies in the letter are still present
On top of that, Sirius claims that Peter was a spy for a year before the Potters’ death. This would mean that Peter secretly joined Voldemort at almost exactly the same time the Potters went under the Fidelius charm. Admittedly, the Potter family being directly threatened and going into hiding seems like a solid catalyst for Peter noping-the-fuck-out of the Order and secretly becoming a spy. He probably partially joined the Order because all of his friends were doing it (James especially) and so seeing James being forced into hiding was probably a huge shock for him. Also, at this point, the Death Eaters were winning, and he was most definitely shitting himself over that. So. Yes. Timeline works there.
BUT! then why did it take Peter a year to give the Potters up? It seems (although there’s some wiggle room) like they didn’t switch secret keepers, rather made it seem like Sirius was the secret keeper publicly while Peter was secretly the real secret keeper. In this scenario, Peter either would have had to willfully withhold this information from Voldy himself for almost year, which is kind of a dangerous move coming from a coward, or he told Voldemort the minute he was made secret keeper and for some reason Voldemort didn’t do ANYTHING ABOUT IT FOR A YEAR. Does Voldemort have really bad procrastination issues? Did he just forget that there’s a baby that’s threatening his very existence out there somewhere?
This leaves one last plausible option: something happened that made them switch secret-keepers last minute, and Peter did not become secret keeper until shortly before the Potters’ death. This is not what Pottermore or the books imply, but it’s what makes the most sense. We’ll come back to this option in problem 3 which is all about secret keepers, but for now let’s talk about the prophecy that made all of this come to be...
Problem 2: The Prophecy
Dumbledore says that the prophecy was made in 1980 “shortly before [Harry’s] birth” on a “cold, wet night”.
I think that anything below 50 Fahrenheit/10 Celsius can be considered cold, so according to this map of temperatures in the Scottish Highlands:
Tumblr media
(okay... yes... I see it too... perhaps the climate map of the Scottish Highlands is taking things a bit too far. But I’m trying to make a point, okay!!)
Trelawney could have conceivably given Dumbledore the prophecy anywhere from late March - early June. There’s some wiggle room there, but I’d place my bets on it happening somewhere in the spring based on the weather and timing. This means that Trelawney made the prophecy a year and a half before Voldemort was finally able to kill the Potters. So what took Voldemort so long? Let’s break it down.
We know that Snape overheard the prophecy and brought it to Voldemort. From there Voldemort decided to kill Harry not Neville because Harry was a half-blood like himself, Snape went back to Dumbledore and offered himself as a double agent in exchange for Lily’s protection, and Voldemort reportedly spent “months searching” for the Potters until he found their whereabouts and discovered they were using a Fidelius charm. Then “WITHIN A WEEK OF BEING NAMED SECRET KEEPER” Peter betrayed them and Voldemort was able to enter the Potters’ home. The implications of this are too ridiculously convoluted to get into, but I’ll hit the stuff that makes me want to scream:
Option 1: Snape Tells Voldy Immediately After He Hears the Prophecy
In this scenario, we only have a few months accounted for. Voldemort finds out about prophecy, searches for a few months, finds the Potters, kills them. Makes sense, right? Bing, bang, boom. Very efficient. Except no. He knew for a year and a half, so what was he doing with allll of that extra time? Discovering the joys of muggle television? Completing a 5,000 piece crossword puzzle? Teaching Nagini to dance? Get on top of it, man. World domination is on the line. A few months is not a year and a half.
It’s also possible that the few months thing is wrong, and Voldemort was actually searching for the full year and a half. If Peter gave the Potters up within a week of becoming secret keeper, they should have been dead wayyy earlier! Like over a year earlier! Even if Sirius was the original secret keeper, and they switched mid-October of 1981, Peter would have still known where the Potters where and that they were under the Fidelius charm, information Voldemort didn’t know until shortly before he killed them. So why did Peter, who was already a spy at this point, fail to say anything? If Voldemort had found out Peter had willfully withheld information, he surely would have killed him. That thought alone should have been enough to make Peter come to him immediately considering how terrified Peter has always been of dying.
Option 2: Snape Sort of Drags His Feet with the Whole Thing
okay so maybe Snape didn’t tell the dark lord immediately. Maybe he knew what this would mean for Lily and was terrified. Maybe he debated for a long time whether it would be safer for Lily if he kept the information to himself or if he told the dark lord and begged him to spare her (fuck the baby, am I right?)
STILL this is a big risk for Snape. No one really wants to piss of Voldemort and saying, “heyyyy big man, I’ve actually known that there’s a super baby that can kill you for like a year, and I didn’t tell you about it because I was scared, but don’t be mad” is not an A+ move. Seems like Voldemort might be kind of mad. Seems like he might even kill you. It seems unlikely to me that Snape would wait that long, but I guesssss it’s possible.
NO MATTER WHAT there are so many conflicts in this timeline. Everything conflicts with everything else, especially the timeline of the secret keeper which is wholly dependent on the other two fucked-up timelines we just discussed, so without further ado...
Problem 3:  The Secret Keeper
so WHY not just make Sirius the secret keeper? That’s the question of the century. If the secret keeper can only break the Fidelius charm voluntarily--meaning torturing or imperius-ing them can’t force it out--and Sirius, in his own words, “would have died rather than betray [James]” then WHY NOT JUST HAVE SIRIUS BE THE SECRET KEEPER AND  BE DONE WITH IT LADS
Well here’s Pottermore’s (sigh) answer:
“The answer is that Sirius wanted to deflect attention from the real Secret-Keeper. He probably hoped Voldemort would go after him so he could steer attention away from Pettigrew. If all had gone to plan, Voldemort may never have known Sirius was not the Secret-Keeper – but even if he’d discovered the bluff, Voldemort’s pursuit of Sirius would have given the Potters and Pettigrew time to regroup.”
Okay... so Sirius wanted to deflect attention from the real secret keeper... and have the Death Eaters come after him instead... but this still explains nothing because whether Sirius is or is not the secret keeper, the Death Eaters are coming after him regardless, and if he knows that he would rather die than betray James and Lily, why risk letting anyone else carry the secret? In other words, why did he trust Peter more than himself?
The only answer I can think of is that something happened that made Sirius stop trusting himself. For some reason, he felt that the Death Eaters had something on him that might make him break. Sirius’ defining quality is his undying, self-sacrificial loyalty to the people he loves, so it’s a massive deal that he doubted his own ability to be loyal to James, Lily, and Harry. This goes entirely against his character, so something must have happened that was not mentioned in the books. Unless we change his entire character, there’s a HUGE missing piece here.
(I am keeping this a mainly wolfstar-free post because it’s just about the plotting of the books, but I think it’s interesting to explore how the Death Eaters could have threatened to torture/kill Remus to try to try to make Sirius break. That’s literally the only scenario I can imagine that would make Sirius doubt his ability to be loyal to the Potters--if he had to choose between killing James and killing Remus. Anyways. That’s really dark. Let’s move on.)
Problem 4: Peter
Okay so now we’re past the actual event of Peter’s betrayal and hopping ahead to after James and Lily died.
Why did Peter remain a rat for 12 years?
Pros of Remaining a Rat:
the wizarding world can go on thinking you’re dead and thinking your best friend is guilty of 13 murders
the Death Eaters who think you wanted Voldemort to die at Godric’s Hollow also think you’re dead and aren’t going to be up in your business
someone feeds you
life is simple (if you ignore the many lives weighing on your conscience and the ultimate degradation of your soul)
Cons of Remaining a Rat:
you’re a rat
no one likes you
you have to watch out for mouse traps
you live in a house with Fred and George and probably fear for your life every waking moment
no seriously I think these are big cons
Other Options If You’ve Murdered Your Best Friends and Are a Rat:
go live with the muggles. seriously. there must be a muggle village somewhere without wizards (there aren’t that many wizards) where you can BE A HUMAN. Even if you do run into a wizard, they probably won’t immediately recognize you, and if they do, you can turn into a rat, run away, and go live with the millions of rats of the world
go to space?
no, I mostly just wanted to make that first point
It’s also possible he remained a rat because, as Sirius said, he was “keeping an ear out for news [...] Just in case [his] old protector regained strength, and it was safe to rejoin him.” This definitely is possible, but if I had to choose between maybe living a life as a human and living as a rat in case a guy who totally seems dead comes back, I’d try to be a human. Plus, Peter could live with muggles and still keep up with wizard news.
Problem 5?: Sirius’ Escape
Admittedly, this problem isn’t that big. I still find it a bit weird though.
When Sirius recollects his escape to Harry he says:
Tumblr media
If all Sirius had to do to escape Azkaban was to slip out the door when the dementors brought him food, why did he wait twelve years?? yes, okay, he was a universally wanted man and people would have immediately started hunting for him, but Sirius is fucking smart. Dude became an animagi (something only seven other people had done that century) when he was fif-fucking-teen and was considered to be a genius by almost everyone who knew him. Surely he could have hacked it on his own for awhile until he made it to Remus or Dumbledore** and was able to convince them that Peter had been the real secret keeper. And yeah! It may not have worked. In fact, even if Sirius did convince Remus it hadn’t been him, they’re still kind of fucked either way. Worst case scenario, though, Sirius just gets sent back to Azkaban. It’s not like they could have extended his already life-long sentence. I feel like you could argue the merits or disadvantages of running away from Azkaban until you’re blue in the face, but the bottom line is Sirius is a reckless, impulsive, chaotic human being who hates to be told what to do and hates to be made useless and has no qualms risking everything if it seems worth it. So why wasn’t even a brief glimmer of freedom worth it? The only reason I can think of is that Sirius was so destroyed by Peter’s betrayal and the Potters’ death that he didn’t really think it was worth living at all.
ALSO, one last thing, why is it so fuckin’ easy to escape Azkaban? All you have to do is slip out the door and do some swimming? Someone should have done that years ago!
**okay admittedly Dumbledore probably didn’t care about exonerating Sirius and actually found it quite convenient that he was in Azkaban because it meant Harry had no adult looking out for him, but Sirius didn’t know that, and probably still thought Dumbledore cared somewhat for his wellbeing because they worked so closely in the Order (but this is totally conjecture idk)
anyways, point is:
HOW CAN YOU FAIL TO PLOT THE CORNERSTONE OF YOUR ENTIRE SERIES SO SPECTACULARLY?? THIS IS YOUR JOB. THIS IS YOUR LIVELIHOOD.

Imagine Being Sirius’s Daughter (Part Four)
Part One
Part Two
Part Three
Tumblr media
-The last day of Summer break you asked Remus if it was okay that you went to Hogwarts, which he at first wasn’t sure if he wanted to agree to, but he could see in your eyes that you weren’t going to let it go.
-When you arrived he thought you were going to go straight to Dumbledore’s office, so imagine his surprise when he saw you start towards the dungeons. He decided to go to Dumbledore’s office, knowing that he was not wanted where you were going.
-You lightly knocked on Snape’s office door, to which his nasally, groaning tone leaked through the wooden door, “Come in.”
-When he saw it was you, he looked disappointed, “Miss Black, I was unaware the moon would be full tonight.”
“It’s not, I just wanted to come talk.”
“About? If it is regards to the grade the Weasley boys received last term, it is too late to change.”
“No, it is about him.” Snape looked away, he never imagined the daughter of one of his bullies would ever come to discuss the Potter boy with him.
“My father tells me that you used to be close with my Aunt Lily, that was until she started dating Uncle Prong.” You stated, not revealing the real reason, since you were sure that Snape regretted calling Lily a mudblood, “Harry is starting school tomorrow.”
“I am aware.” Snape hissed
“Are you okay?” You asked, as he lifted his head towards you again, “I mean this is the son of the woman you love.”
“Yes, and you are the child of the man who killed them. Now your spineless father might not have been the one holding the wand that stopped Lily’s heart, but he might as well have.” He hissed, advancing towards you, “You want to know why I have never liked you Miss Black, it isn’t because of how your father treated me, or how I was the test subject for your uncle Prong, or that I lost your aunt Lily. Oh no foolish girl it is because you act just like your father, reckless, pompous, ignorant... I am shocked your friends haven’t figured out you will probably turn on them just as fast as your father did. I can’t stand the sight of you because when I look at you, I see the man who turned on the Potter’s, who told the Dark Lord exactly where they were to kill them.” Snape was in your face now, his hook nose close to yours as he hissed, “Now get out.”
-You left immediately, tears brimming your eyes as you hurried towards Dumbledore’s office. When you got there Remus looked towards you immediately, and saw the sorrow in your eyes. His long legs carried him quickly towards you, before engulfing you in his arms, and pulling you into his chest. Your voice barely auditable as you muttered, “I would like to drop Potions.”
-Later that night you went to Hagrid’s, figuring he wouldn’t be there, cause it was dinner time for a certain three headed dog that Hagrid had been hiding in the forest for several years. You loved Fluffy, and normally when Hagrid would go to feed him you would tag along. So when you opened the door to see Hagrid standing at the fire you couldn’t help but raise some questions.
-He told you the bare minimum, he wasn’t able to reveal much to you, at the request of Dumbledore. But he told you that Fluffy was guarding something for Dumbledore, and that no matter what, you couldn’t bring up the fact that you knew about Fluffy, or the music. You agreed.
Tumblr media
-The day you were supposed to get on the train, you woke up early and made Remus breakfast. Eggs Benedict, sausage, bacon, and strawberries lined the kitchen table as you pours some orange juice into the clear glass cups, the pot of coffee brewing. You knew that today was going to be hard, since Remus never liked saying goodbye to you, but today was going to be extra difficult, for both of you.
-While you cooked you had no idea how you would react to seeing the boy you were supposed to grow up with. The last time you had seen Harry was Halloween in 1981, when you were two. You also wondered how Remus would react, I mean this was the boy that should have also been calling him Uncle Mooney, the son of his best friends who were violently taken from the world too young. You couldn’t imagine the pain he would feel.
-When he awoke, and trudged into the kitchen he yawned, “You’re up early.”
“Couldn’t sleep.”
“Excited to start your third year?” He joked as you turned your head slightly, “Course I am.”
“Do you remember what classes you chose?” He joked, already knowing that when you filled out the list you made sure to pick classes that you knew the Weasley would take.
“Yes Uncle Mooney.” You smiled, before taking his empty plate and serving up the freshly cooked breakfast.
-You both ate in silence, before Remus cleared his throat, “Have you heard from your dad in a while?”
“Not since June.” You muttered, “You?”
“No, he hasn’t written me in a while Love.”
-When you were finished you loaded the dishes into the sink, ready to clean them, however Remus stopped you, “I’ll do those later my Love, do you have your trunk packed?”
“Course I do, triple checked it last night.” You smiled as you looked towards him, ready to face the world.
“Good, better grab it then, would hate for you to be late, cause than who will entertain the boys?”
“Lee can handle it, I promise.”
“sure he can.”
- When you and Remus arrived on the platform you immediately looked around for Lee, Fred, and George, however you saw none of them. You turned towards Remus, ready to tell him you would stay with him and wait, but when you turned you saw he was scanning the platform as well. You knew it wasn’t for your friends however.
-When you finally caught sight of the Twins they had just run through the barrier, and went racing towards you, the two leaving their carts to hug you. However before you could say a word you saw a face you hadn’t seen in almost 10 years. His hair was shaggy, and a dark, chocolate brown, his skin was fair, his body was engulfed in clothes clearly too large for him, which caused him to look as though he was lean and tall. He was looking around the platform in wonder, a snow owl sitting atop his trunk, as his broken frames hung from his nose. You could see the shimmer of his green eyes, your Aunt’s eyes, but if it wasn’t for those eyes you would have sworn you were looking at the face of your Uncle Prongs.
-Your eyes immediately watered, but that didn’t stop you from turning to look at your Uncle Mooney, his own eyes transfixed on him, as a tear freely fell down his face. You broke away from the twins without a word, and hugged Remus, who was looking at Harry Potter as though he was an old friend.
-When Remus got to the car, he shut the door, and immediately broke down. The tears flowing like a river as he beat the steering wheel and screamed. It wasn’t fair. It wasn’t fair that Harry didn’t get to have his parents, it wasn’t fair that he couldn’t grow up with you, it wasn’t fair that he was dressed in hand-me-down clothes and his glasses were broken, it wasn’t fair that he looked like he hadn’t eaten a decent meal in 10 years, It wasn’t fair that Dumbledore didn’t just give Harry to him like he had you. It wasn’t fair that he lost his best friends, it wasn’t fair that his best friend killed them, it wasn’t fair… None of it was fair. As Remus screamed into the empty void of the car his tears were falling faster and faster at the thought of how unfair life had been for both Harry Potter and [Y/N] Black.
-When he finally drove home, he dragged his feet into the eerily quiet cabin, the room was dark, and cold. He slowly advanced towards the armchair and sunk into it, and let his thoughts consume him.
-When you boarded the train you couldn’t find Lee, so you and Fred snagged an empty booth while George went to find him. As soon as the door was closed though Fred looked at you, “Why do you look spooked?”
“Huh?” You looked towards him
“Well you took one look at that kid who went through the barrier with us, and your whole demeanor changed, and now you just look sad.”
“Remember when Uncle Remus was telling us stories last summer about my dad, and Uncle James?”
“Yeah, they both were bloody brilliant.” Fred smiled as you looked into his eyes, noticing as well the smallest smudge of dirt on his nose, “Well that was my Uncle Jame’s son. We haven’t seen him since he was 1, and honestly I doubt he even remembers us. Seeing him was like looking at my Uncle James again.”
-Later when George returned he sat down in amazement, “Lee is hanging out with the cool kids, but you’re never gonna guess what Ronny just told me?”
“What?” Fred replied, but you already had a feeling what the news was gonna be.
“That kid that ran into the barrier after us, that’s Harry Potter, the Harry Potter.”
“Wicked.” Fred smiled, however his eyes then grew large as he looked towards you, your head turned towards the window.
-When you were all getting off, Fred and George looked over at Lee and stuck their tongues out at him, causing you to smile slightly.
-At the feast Lee slid into the spot next to George, which of course led to a series of teasing, “Oh look who decided to join the big boys again?” George teased
“Who are you again, Levi, Jason, Kevin?” Fred taunted
“Oh what Lee, did the girls turn you down?” You asked with a smile as Lee rolled his eyes, expecting nothing less then that from the group of you.
“Haha very funny guys, and for your information [Y/N], Angelina actually agreed to go to Hogsmade with me on our first trip.”
-The boys immediately started to chatter about the prospect of Lee making moves on Angelina, but your attention was pulled away by the doors of the great hall swinging open. As always a hoard of 11 year olds filed into the great hall, McGonagall leading them towards the hat that would decide their house. As the pack pasted your eyes were searching for one little boy, but instead you found Ron, who wasted no time waving at you and the boys as he passed. Waving back though you saw the boy beside him, and watched as he continued to walk away, as you did, you caught the eyes of Snape, his own eyes glued to the boy whose face would remind him of yet another one of his childhood tormentors.
-As they called the children one by one you couldn’t help but chuckle at Fred and George’s banter, “Imagine if Ronnie gets put in Slytherin, Mum would have a heart attack.”
“I don’t think he would ever be cut out for Slytherin, honestly with how much he eats, he will probably be a Hufflepuff, that way he is closer to the kitchen.”
-Before you could add your two cents into the topic, you heard his name, “Ronald Weasley.”
You watched the small ginger boy approaching the stool, and as he went to sit down you shot him a reassuring smile, knowing there was only house where the Weasley Family belonged. The hat didn’t even touch his ginger hairs before it screamed out, “Gryffindor!”, causing your whole friend group to erupt into cheers, as George and Lee scooted over to make room for the newest lion.
-After a few more minutes you heard his name, a hush overtook the hall as some whispered, “The Harry Potter?”
-As he approached the stool, Dumbledore’s eyes found yours, your frame leaning forward as you waited for the hat to speak, praying he would go anywhere but Slytherin. You had no idea that Dumbledore was even watching how you reacted, knowing that you wanted nothing more then for him to be in Gryffindor, that way you could finally get to know the boy whom was supposed to practically be your cousin.
-Fred’s hand slipped to your thigh and gave it a gentle squeeze, he was the only one who knew how much the hat’s words would affect you. He was praying that he got gryffindor, that way it was easier for you to befriend him.
-When the hat screamed out Gryffindor, you and the boys all rose to your feet, along with the rest of the table, and cheered. Your cheer was by far the loudest. The small boy made his way towards you, and plopped right next to you, across from Ron, and the guys leaning around you to clap him on the shoulder.
-Once the sorting was over, and the food had appeared you all began introducing yourselves to the first years. George of course lead the introductions, “So this is Lee, the charmer who has the loudest voice, I’m George, The handsome twin, this is Fred, the slightly less handsome twin, and that’s [Y/N], she is basically our mum.”
“Mum would be pissed if she heard that.” Ron replied, as he stuffed his mouth with mashed potatoes, causing you to smile, “No Ronnie, she would absolutely agree.”
-You couldn’t help but look at Harry out of the corner of your eye as you all chattered at the feast table.
Tumblr media
-That night when Percy took all the first years to the common room, you stayed at the table with the boys, just chatting and catching up. That was until Professor Dumbledore appeared behind George and Lee, his eyes on you as you looked up from Lee’s story and made eye contact with the headmaster. “Miss Black, a word?”
“Course headmaster.” You replied, quickly swinging out of the table before watching him go back down the aisle towards the facility table, your motions matching his in the opposite aisle until you both met at the end, without even a look he made his way towards the hidden chamber hidden underneath the Great Hall, the floor littered in the many treasures of Hogwarts, fully carpeted, the fire roaring as McGonagall slowly rose from the chair placed infront of the fire.
“Minerva, Albus, what if the meaning of this?” You asked, eyebrow arched as Dumbledore took a soft breath, “Your uncle informed me your first year that you were in corespondences with your father.”
“Firstly, the people I am in contact with is no importance to you, and secondly, why are you choosing now to make this a topic of conversation?”
-He was quiet for a second, his long finger going to his half moon spectacles to push them farther up his crooked nose, before he turned his head to look at McGonagall. However just by the expression on both of their faces you knew.
“You think I am going to tell him about Harry...” you whispered.
“We are just concerned for the boy [Y/N]. You have seen the state of the boy, and I have seen his family, they are horrid muggles. We don’t want him to deal with a harder life then he already has, and many death eaters would love to...” McGonagall started, however you were quick to cut her off.
“Then you shouldn’t have ever let him go to them, you should have sent him straight to us, Remus was one of the Potter’s best friends, and in the event of my father being wrongly accused...”
“James and Lily stated they didn’t want to send him to Mooney!” Dumbledore’s voice was raised as your eyes grew in frustration, “They specifically stated if something were to happen to them, if Harry was in need of rehoming... he was to go to either your father, or his Aunt Petunia. Seeing how your father was unable to care for him, we respected the Potter’s wishes and sent him to live with Lily’s sister.”
“Yet he was good enough to raise me?” You snapped.
“It was what your father would have wan...”
“What my father wanted.” You interrupted him with a chuckle, “What my father wanted was to raise his own daughter, for someone to defend him when he was framed for murdering his friends, yet None of you saved him from Azkaban. So do not tell me about what my father wanted Albus.”
-A pause lingered in the air after your words slipped from your lips, your blood boiling as you hissed, “I didn’t plan on telling my father a word anyway, so if you will excuse me, I would like to go back to my common room?”
“You are dismissed Miss Black.” Dumbledore’s voice was soft as you stormed from the hidden room and into the Great Hall, not even stopping to talk to the boys, who all turned to see you leave when they saw Fred perk up.
-When the grand doors slammed behind you, Lee mumbled, “What do you think they said to piss her off so badly?”
-He got no reply, because as soon as the door slammed both Weasley boys were up, and hurrying towards the door themselves, hoping you hadn’t gotten too far.
-They saw you on the stairs, you were almost to the Fat Lady when George called out, “[Y/N]!” This caused you to stop your ascension up the stairs, your hand gripping the railing as they also stopped, “what’s wrong?”
“Nothing, just.... I’m just tired.”
“Bullshit, we know when you’re lying [Y/N].” Fred replied as you gave a dry chuckle, “Nothing gets past you two does it?”
“Nope, we figured after all this time you would have figured that out by now.” George replied, as you slowly turned, your eyes red and glassy as the tears threatened to fall, causing George and Fred to Easter no time bolting up the stairs, and almost tackling you onto the steps as they hugged you.
-They sat in the common room with you, they got the small table you all always sat at and pulled out the Wizard Chess board. George looked at you and smiled, “Ready to lose Black?”
“In your dreams Georgie.” You forced a smile, as Fred looked between the two of you, a smile on his face as you moved your pawn to D4.
-Each twin took a turn playing you, and acted baffled when you won. However you knew they were letting you win, cause when it came to games the Weasley Twin sometimes went for blood.
-After you played both twins once, you looked at them, “So now you and George are gonna destroy each other.”
“Bullshit, I want a rematch.” George barked, playfully pushing Fred from the seat as you smiled, Fred dramatically fell out of the chair and pretended to scoff at his brother as he took the observer’s spot.
-After round 2 against Fred, the younger Weasley, and Harry had joined the table, each standing on a side of George as you easily took Fred’s king. “You are getting sloppy.” Ron voiced.
“You think you can do better Ronald?” Fred asked, eyebrow raised, “You try.”
“Is that okay?” Ron asked you, a blush spreading across his cheeks as you grinned, “Course Ronnie, Fred, Move.”
-Ron won against you, a grin on his face as his knight claimed victory against your king. “You definitely cheated.” You joked
-Ron looked at Harry, “Harry, you wanna try? I promise playing against [Y/N] is easy.”
“I haven’t a clue how to play.” He whispered, as you joked, “It’s okay, I’ll go easy on you.”
-When Harry took the seat across from you, you turned the board around, making it so that he was allowed to make the first move. “You just gotta tell them where you want them to go.”
-The whole time you played, you were giving tips to him, along with the three ginger boys, however whenever Harry had a question, he asked you.
-Harry won the first game, to which he smiled wide, “I won?”
“Looks that way, now one of them have to try to beat you.” You smiled, looking to Fred, “Wanna try knocking him out Freddie?”
“Alright, but I’m not gonna go easy on him just cause he is a first time player.” Fred replied as you switched spots. However Harry looked over to you, “think you could... maybe...”
-He didn’t even have to finish the question, your feet guiding you to the small space between his seat and the wall, your arms crossed as you watched, offering help to him whenever he asked.
-He won against all of the Weasleys, the last one he played was George, who replied, “You know it is no far that it was 2 against 1.”
“And he’s never played before, we did the same thing when Charlie taught Ginny how to play when she was 5.”Ron replied, as George crossed his arms, “Yes but Charlie didn’t have our strategies memorized like [Y/N].”
“You’re just pouting because a first timer beat you, don’t worry Georgie, your ego will bounce back.” You smiled.
-After Harry beat George, the two younger boys excused themselves to their corridors, while George stretched and muttered something about going to his trunk quickly to get the prank journal. When he left the table Fred looked at you, “So your dad was best friends with the Potters?”
“Yeah, he was.” You whispered, “They basically were family to my dad, like I called his parents my grandparents. Uncle Remus told me that James was the first person other than his mum to see me, and that when I was a baby I adored him, I would cry whenever him or Aunt Lily left the room. I still have pictures too from their wedding in my room, not a day goes by that I don’t think about them.”
“Why didn’t you ever tell me?” His hand stretched towards your hand, as it slowly cupped around yours.
“I figured it wasn’t important.” You lied. Truth was you didn’t want him to put it together, you were scared that you would lose all of them if they knew your dad was in Azkaban, for betraying the Potter’s.
-Fred’s hand didn’t leave yours, even when George returned to discuss all the pranks they had plotted without you. It felt comfortable, and while you and Fred thought nothing of it, George definitely noticed.
-When you all finally went your separate ways to go to bed, George bumped his twin on the shoulder, “So are we gonna talk about that?”
“About what?”
“About what, this boy tells me about what, as though him and [Y/N] haven’t been holding hands for over an hour.” George muttered, as Fred smiled, “Honestly George, it’s not a big deal.”
“Fred, just ask her to Hogsmeades already.” He instructed, “That way I can stop watching you try to suppress your feelings towards her.”
-When the boys went to Potions that morning, they were so excited that their first class was with you. However their smiles fell when you weren’t there at your normal table. The next class they had was Care of Magical Creatures, and when they saw you there, George was the first to state, “You missed Potions?”
“Sorry, I must have forgotten to tell you, I... Ummm dropped potions. I have a private tutoring lesson now for it with Dumbledore.” You replied.
-Both boys went up to McGonagall later that day, and asked if she could ask Dumbledore if they could join you. When she asked, his smile grew, “Of course they can join.”
-Dumbledore apologized for his outburst when you went to his office for the potion lesson, to which you stated, “All is forgiven.”
-Your father still hadn’t written you.... which was concerning. However it didn’t stop you from writing to him daily.
-You wrote to Remus about what Albus said to you, to which he replied by writing Albus a long letter explaining that if he ever did that again, he would be going to Hogwarts directly to correct the interaction.
Tumblr media
-A week after classes started, Fred walked up beside you, “Hey [Y/N]?”
“Yes Freddie?”
“You know how we are going to be going to Hogsmeade at the end of the month?”
“You mean we aren’t sneaking into Hogsmeade for once in the dead of night and going legitimately now, when everything is open?” You replied with a grin, as you reflected on all the times you used the Marauders Map to sneak into the village, hoping Charlie, and Percy never saw you.
“Yeah, well I was wondering if you would wanna go with me?”
“I thought we were all going together? I mean Lee is going with Angelina, but I assumed you, George and I were...”
“Nevermind, it was a stupid question...” he stated, “I mean I should have just assumed you were going with us.”
-George and Lee were so proud of Fred for asking you on proper date finally, however when they saw how upset he looked they questioned his appearance, “She ummm didn’t realize I was asking her on a date.” Fred replied, causing both boys to fall silent.
-Dumbledore loved having the three of you, and found that soon his favorite part of the day was your class. Some days it felt as though you all exchanged stories more than learned anything.
-You spent at least one night a week at Hagrid’s hut discussing life over tea. It was here that he told you about his plan to make Harry a scrapbook of pictures of his family. You gladly agreed to help.
-Your first school trip to Hogsmeade was a ball, you three started off at Three Broomsticks, and drank three large mugs of butter beer each. Fred was insistent on paying for yours, and once you finally agreed George joked, “You paying for mine too?”
-You then looked at Fred with a grin, “It’s only fair.”
-After The Three Broomsticks you three ventured to Honeydukes, where you all gawked at the endless rows of sweets.
-Before you left you bought 5 cauldron cakes, along with 10 chocolate frogs and a tin of Sugared Butterfly Wings.
-You ended the trip at Zonko’s, where Fred and George gawked over everything in the store. Both boys touching everything and turning it in their hands, as they observed the products. While they were doing that you had managed to wander away slightly, and bought two nose biting tea cups. Placing them into your bag you walked back over to the boys, who were debating quite loudly who to prank with the dungbombs.
-Upon getting back to Hogwarts you gave two of the five cauldron cakes to Ron and Harry, then you tossed the tin to Harry, and looked at Ron, “Now don’t go eating these all in one night.” You instructed before reaching into your bag and pulling out the ten chocolate frogs. The boys both look at you with sheer joy, and thanked you for the gifts.
-You also gave the twins their cauldron cakes, and the tea cups, both looked at the off white porcelain and muttered, “Wicked.”
-That night Fred sat next to you at dinner, and as soon as Lee sat down you asked, “Soooooo, how’d it go with Angelina?”
“She didnt show, she was supposed to meet me at the tea shop. So I just came back here.”
“Why didn’t you come find us, we told you we would be at the Three Broomsticks before we separated?” George asked
“I didn’t want to drag you guys down. How was it though?” He asked, his frown turning up a bit as George went into a monologue about the trip, leaving you and Fred to just listen as you slowly devoured the food on your plates.
-That night when you were turning in for the night you looked towards Angelina’s four poster, “So why did you do it?”
“Do what?” She asked confused
“Agree to go on a date with Lee Jordan, but instead you stood him up? Let me guess, you and Katie thought it would be a better idea to go to the hair salon and get your hair done?”
“Last I checked what I did was none of your business [Y/N].”
“It is when you hurt my best friend’s feelings, so this is how it is going to go, you are going to apologize to him before your first class, you are going to be honest with him about your feelings and than you are going to make it up to him by actually going with all of us next time. And if you don’t, I’ll hex your broom, and make your hair change colors, do I make myself clear?” Your tone was menacing, and you knew Angelina was aware that you were the brightest witch of your year.
-She agreed to the terms, and that morning at breakfast Lee sat down smiling, “So Angelina apologized, and you’re never gonna guess why she stood me up?”
“Why?” Fred asked, before shoving a fork full of eggs into his mouth.
“Turns out she was on a date with Oliver.”
Tumblr media
-When the boys told you that Harry was on the Quidditch team you were ecstatic.
-However that first game you were nervous for him, and nearly lost your mind when he crashed onto the pitch. However as soon as he spit up the snitch you cheered the loudest.
-When the broom started to jerk around in the air, you were trying to see who could have been muttering a hex on it, as you muttered a counter curse. That’s when you saw Snape mouthing something, but you knew Snape’s behaviors well enough to know he would never try to charm Harry’s broom.
-The next trip to Hogsmeade Angelina joined, as promised, and actually had a lot of fun. After when you were all walking back you bummed her arm lightly, “Thanks for that by the way.”
“No problem, maybe Oliver will want to come to the next one, then we can have a double date kinda.”
“How?”
“You and Fred....”
“Fred and I aren’t dating.” You stated softly, “We’re just friends.”
“This coming from the girl who shared a butter beer with him, and who he gave his jacket to when you said you were cold.” She laughed, “I don’t know about you, but that seems an awful lot like you two are dating.”
-That night you and Harry actually stayed up late talking, you never brought up anything about your lives crossing, but you just talked. It was a common occurrence.
-Yes he twins were jealous of Harry at one point, but that was just because after every quidditch match you would go congratulate him first. However when you would go congratulate them you would wrap them both into tight hugs, and suggest going to Three Broomsticks to celebrate with Fire Whiskey.
-On the night of Halloween when you were all sent back to the common rooms you were frantically looking around for Ron and Harry, your heart racing as each second ticked by. When you finally saw the two dirty boys and the mousy brown haired mess of curls you went rushing over to Harry and engulfed him in a hug, “Don’t scare me like that again you two.”
-After that day, Hermoine joined your group, which you liked, because you knew how beneficial it was for the Twins and Lee to have a girl in their friend group.
-She loved getting to know you, because you challenged her intelligence daily.
-Fred never brought up you both going to Hogsmeade together again.
-One night while you were helping Fred with his transfiguration homework, you both feel asleep on the love seat. Harry woke you both up the next morning before going to his first class.
-As always you finished the term with the top grades in your class, and for once the Twins got higher than a A in potions.
-You drew names for secret Santa that year, however one of you kept drawing your own names, so finally after drawing names 20 times, you finally got your person, who happened to be George.
-The twins begged you to stay at Hogwarts that year, knowing that you couldn’t invite him to have Christmas at your house. As much as you wanted to stay though you told him you had to go home. You needed to see your Uncle, and get pictures for Hagrid’s secret project.
-You sat alone on the train ride back, and watched the countryside whiz by.

-Remus was so excited when he saw you get off the train, and you wasted no time running up to him to give him a hug.
-Over the holiday, you had made arrangements to stay at Hogwarts with Hagrid for the full moon. You were not allowed to go to the actual castle because you didn’t want the boys finding out why you were there.
-On the car ride home, you were informing him of Hagrid’s plan, and he quickly agreed to donate a few photographs to the cause.
-As soon as you got home you started going through the old photo box, Remus was insistent however that no pictures of the other Marauders or the first Order would be included. However he thought it was fine that you included a photo from James and Lily’s wedding, where they were holding you while dancing.
- Remus had told Hagrid you would both be attending Christmas dinner at his house, meaning you were going to be at Hogwarts. You also knew that Harry and Ron might stop in, since Hagrid and Harry had gotten so close.
-As soon as you got to Hagrid’s, you saw all the boys playing in the snow through the window. Hagrid poured your tea and stated, “They all came to wish me a merry Christmas, figured I let them play in the snow with Fang for a bit. I must say though, those two twins haven’t been the same since you left [Y/N].”
“I figured they would have been overjoyed that there was no parental figure there anymore to harp on them.” You joked before sitting down next to your father, and sipping your tea.
-Hagrid got teary eyed looking over the pictures you and Remus had picked out. However he tried to cover it, “it feels like only yesterday you were little like this [Y/N], now look at you, all grown up, getting the highest marks of the grade.”
-He got you a biker jacket for Christmas, it was all black, and had little studs in it. “Your father had one just like it when he was here, I figured it was only fair you had one too.”
-Remus got you a cassette player, and a few of the classics. When you opened it your mouth gaped open, “I love it.”
“I figured you would, it was something your father brought back with him one summer after staying with Uncle James, he took it everywhere with him and blared all this muggle music.” Remus smiled, as you popped in a tape and pressed play, as Queen started blasting out of the speaker.
-“There’s one more present for ya too, Dumbledore delivered it this morning. I guess Molly sent all the boys presents here, along with one for you.” Hagrid pulled the familiar brown wrapped present out from under his little tree beside the couch. A cute little golden bow was stuck on the top of it. As you unwrapped it you expected to see just the sweater, however on top of it laid a enevelope, with your name beautifully written across the front. As you carefully opened it, you couldn’t help but listen to Remus’s laughter as he watched Harry playing with the Weasleys in the snow, “It appears as though one of your boys just tackled Harry into the snow.”
-You knew that just seeing Harry from afar was going to give Remus so much joy. You turned and whispered, “Of course he would.”
-Inside the enevelope was a card, on the front you noticed it had hand drawn flowers littered all over, with your name once again printed on the front in the same handwriting. Inside the letter small specks of glitter started to float out, and you couldn’t help but smile when you saw her message, “Hope your Christmas is magical.”
-Your sweater that year was a dark forest green and the letter was in a light grey, as though you were a Slytherin. You slipped it on immediately.
-You had stayed late at the hut, sipping tea and laughing. Occasionally you had peaked out the window to watch the boys but as soon as the sun started to set they had all retreated to the castle, and Fang came back to the hut. As soon as Fang saw you, he leapt onto the couch and rested his head on your lap, his eyes immediately shutting as you pet him. Soon he was fast asleep.
-However in less than an hour there was a knocking on the door, which Hagrid answered, expecting that the other professors had come to join you all for dinner, however when he opened it, he was greeted by two tall, slightly muscular, ginger boys with red cheeks, and huge smiles. “Where is she?” They both stated at the same time.
“Where’s who?” Hagrid was blocking the doorway, so neither saw you turn on the couch to look back at the back of Hagrid’s frame.
“[Y/N].” They both stated, before pushing past him and into the hut. As soon as they saw you looking at them, they both lifted their arms and cheered loud enough to wake up Fang, before running around either side of the couch and engulfing you in a hug. Remus chuckling as Hagrid whispered, “Howd they know?”
“Call it best friend intuition.” Remus replied, knowing fully well that they probably saw your name on the map.
-You also knew that’s how they knew you were here.
-You all moved to the floor, Fang curled up in his bed as you were seated between the two gingers, each of you joking amongst yourselves as Remus watched. As soon as you saw Hagrid put the apron on though you were standing up, and hurrying over to help, grabbing your own apron to throw on as you helped him extract the food from the oven and stove. the boys had also gotten up to help but Remus stopped them, “Don’t even try boys, they have a system on doing this.”
-After dinner you and the boys went outside to play in the falling snow, both boys wasting no time throwing snow at you, before tackling you into the cold. As soon as the snowball fight started both boys picked you up at some point, and threw you over their shoulder as they ran through the snow. Laughter filling the air as you all raced around in the dark snowfall, hurling small bulger sized balls of snow and ice at one another.
-As you all played in the snow, Remus and Hagrid sat inside the hut and talked, at some point Hagrid looked at Remus, “Thank you by the way.”
“For what?”
“The pictures, I know that these were probably hard for you to part with.”
-After two hours outside the Weasley Twins and you were laying in the snow, watching the snow float onto your faces, your bodies slowly sinking into the frozen water flakes. Remus opened the door and looked out into the darkness, watching the snow softly land on the three of you before calling out, “It’s time to go home Love.”
-This caused you to quickly sit up, the boys slowly mimicking your action as you looked to either of them, “Well boys, it’s been entertaining.”
“Do you think Remus will let you stay?” George whispered as you looked towards him, you smile falling slightly as you replied, “Sadly no boys, but don’t worry, I’ll be back before know it.”
-Hugging the boys goodbye was harder then you expected, and before heading into the hut you watched both of them ascend up the stairway towards the castle. Once inside you and Remus quickly used the floo powder system to return to the cabin.
-Two days later you returned to the hut, and spent the night with Hagrid and Fang. Those days you were there Fred and George never opened the map, so they had no idea you had returned the castle.
-While you were there you and Hagrid made a handful of bake goods, and over a dozen cups of tea.

-When you got on the train, it was really strange not sitting with Fred and George, however Lee saved you a seat in the booth with him, Angelina, Katie, Oliver and Lavender Brown.
-When you got to the platform, you heard your name loudly exclaimed, turning you saw the red headed, younger twin race towards you, arms wide open as you opened your own, and collided with you. His tighting squeeze engulfing you as Lee chuckled, “Goodness I wish you greeted me like that George.”
“I absolutely do, you just never notice when I do.” George replied, as you rolled your eyes.
“Speaking of your better half, where is he?” You rebuttaled
“Back at the common room, he claimed that he didn’t feel well.” His fingers made the quotation hand gestures when he said didn’t feel well.
-When you were in the common room you saw Harry in his H sweater, and couldn’t help but smile, “So you are part of the tradition now too?”
- That night You, and the three boys sat around the fireplace, the soft glow of the flames highlighting Fred and George’s faces as you and Lee sat facing them, each of you held boxes on your lap as you each joked and discussed your holidays. Finally it was Lee who spoke up, “Well I’ll go first, I got Fred.”
-As he handed the box to Fred you couldn’t help but chuckle, since Lee had already told you what he had put in the box. Fred’s eyes shifted between the two of you as he slowly started tearing the paper, “It’s not a dungbomb that’s about to go off is it?”
“No, besides if it were, why would we all be sitting around you?” Lee answered.
-Inside was a self help book on maintaining healthy, romantic relationships, he read it and looked horrified, and then asked, “Do you think I’m gonna be a shitty boyfriend?”
“No mate, just figured you would just need all the help you can get.”
-You went next, “Well I got George. However I have to apologize in advance, cause I didn’t get you a relationship self help book, but if you need to I am sure Fred will let you burrow his.”
-When George opened his box, he revealed a maroon and golden scarf, with a matching hat. On top of the hat was a small pompon. He looked to you as you replied, “Your mum taught me how to knit last summer.”
-He immediately put it on.
-Fred went next, and tossed the box to Lee, “Merry Christmas mate.”
Inside the box was a tiny cube, which was painted a metallic orange color. There was no opening to it, or any other indications of what it actually was. However Fred was beaming with pride as Lee turned it in his hands, and finally he asked, “What is it?”
“A prototype, George and I cooked it up while you were gone. It is the first prototype of a product we would like to create for our joke shop, and there will be a secret trigger word which will cause it to multiple and release a foul smelling gas.”
“Fred accidentally set it off though when he was wrapping it though so sadly it won’t work, but it took Flich a whole week to get the stink out of the common room.” George added as you looked at the product in Lee’s hand.
“What if instead it was a wind up toy, that way you couldn’t accidentally set it off.” You suggested, as both Fred and George looked at you, the wheels in their head spinning as they processed your suggestion.
-Finally George spoke, “You’re a genius Black.”
-George looked at his lap, “So I got you a present, but Mum hasn’t sent it yet.”
Your eyebrow raised, “Do I get to know what it is?”
“No, it’s a surprise, but I am really sorry it isn’t here yet.”
“It’s fine Georgie, just means now I’m not gonna talk to you till it comes.” You joked.
“You can’t be serious.” He whined, as you looked to Fred, “Freddie, why isn’t George here?”
“He’s in the hospital wing, gave himself a black eye from slipping in the court yard.”
“Come on guys this isn’t funny.” George whined, revealing much to his unamusement that all of his friends had also joined in on the joke.
-For a week whenever you were all together you would make up different sonarios as to why George wasn’t hanging out with you all. Whenever he spoke you would also joke that George was using telepathy to speak to you all. However when you were not all together, you would interact with George. You apologized as well for starting the joke.
-The day the present came, George slammed it on the table in front of your group, “Here it is.”
“Bloody hell George, where have you been all week, we were worried sick.” You sighed as you looked at the ginger.
“Well it all started when I was trying to prank you guys, but Snape saw me before I could pull it off, and he locked me in detention for a week in the dungeon, and had me organized his ingredients and potion cabinets.”
“That sounds awful.” Lee exclaimed as you pointed towards the box, “So what’s this?”
“That is your present Miss Black, which I request you open at your earliest convenience.”
“Well I better open it after I finish my 5 parchment paper, and save the world, and...” you joked as you snatched the box from him.
“Don’t forget you also have to babysit Fang, and you told Harry you would play quidditch with him.” Fred interrupted.
“You also said you would do mine and Freddie’s parchments as well.” Lee added
-When you opened it you were treated with a red velvet box, and turned it in your hand, “What’s this George?”
“Open it to see.” He instructed, before looking to Fred with a smile.
-Inside was a hand painted, white oval. Within the oval was a small, colorblocked painting of a dragon. The outside of the oval was decorated with braided red and white string. As you looked at it, George stated, “Mum picked it up in Romania for me, they call it a Martisor, and they gift it during the Martisor holiday, which they celebrate on the first day of spring. The red and white strings on top are supposed to symbolize that you will have a joyous year.”
“Where did you get this?” You whispered
“Mum picked it up for me in Romania when they were visiting Charlie, that’s why it took so long to get here.” He beamed as you looked at him, “Thanks Georgie.”
