Dark sky driving (Driving) Driving 'cause my heart's on fire, ooh Dark sky driving (Driving) Comets never have a curfew Dark sky driving, driving away (Away) And I'm never coming home, no way (No way) And I'm tired of the seasons, okay? (Okay?) And I'm tangled in a starry buffet
#bent knee#melvis jams#this whole album is such a breath of fresh air#I missed this kind of listening experience#but this track in particular made me giddy#and it flows into Comet beautifully#that itself is a transition to Drowning#also Illiterate is great#gods this might make me cry with joy#Youtube

the fact that shakespeare was a playwright is sometimes so funny to me. just the concept of the "greatest writer of the English language" being a random 450-year-old entertainer, a 16th cent pop cultural sensation (thanks in large part to puns & dirty jokes & verbiage & a long-running appeal to commoners). and his work was made to be watched not read, but in the classroom teachers just hand us his scripts and say "that's literature"
just...imagine it's 2450 A.D. and English Lit students are regularly going into 100k debt writing postdoc theses on The Simpsons screenplays. the original animation hasn't even been preserved, it's literally just scripts and the occasional SDH subtitles.txt. they've been republished more times than the Bible
#due to the Great Data Decay academics write viciously argumentative articles on which episodes aired in what order#at conferences professors have known to engage in physically violent altercations whilst debating the air date number of household viewers#90% of the couch gags have been lost and there is a billion dollar trade in counterfeit “lost copies”#serious note: i'll be honest i always assumed it was english imperialism that made shakespeare so inescapable in the 19th/20th cent#like his writing should have become obscure at the same level of his contemporaries#but british imperialists needed an ENGLISH LANGUAGE (and BRITISH) writer to venerate#and shakespeare wrote so many damn things that there was a humongous body of work just sitting there waiting to be culturally exploited...#i know it didn't happen like this but i imagine a English Parliament House Committee Member For The Education Of The Masses or something#cartoonishly stumbling over a dusty cobwebbed crate labelled the Complete Works of Shakespeare#and going 'Eureka! this shall make excellent propoganda for fabricating a national identity in a time of great social unrest.#it will be a cornerstone of our elitist educational institutions for centuries to come! long live our decaying empire!'#'what good fortune that this used to be accessible and entertaining to mainstream illiterate audience members...#..but now we can strip that away and make it a difficult & alienating foundation of a Classical Education! just like the latin language :)'#anyway maybe there's no such thing as the 'greatest writer of x language' in ANY language?#maybe there are just different styles and yes levels of expertise and skill but also a high degree of subjectivity#and variance in the way that we as individuals and members of different cultures/time periods experience any work of media#and that's okay! and should be acknowledged!!! and allow us to give ourselves permission to broaden our horizons#and explore the stories of marginalized/underappreciated creators#instead of worshiping the List of Top 10 Best (aka Most Famous) Whatevers Of All Time/A Certain Time Period#anyways things are famous for a reason and that reason has little to do with innate “value”#and much more to do with how it plays into the interests of powerful institutions motivated to influence our shared cultural narratives#so i'm not saying 'stop teaching shakespeare'. but like...maybe classrooms should stop using it as busy work that (by accident or designs)#happens to alienate a large number of students who could otherwise be engaging critically with works that feel more relevant to their world#(by merit of not being 4 centuries old or lacking necessary historical context or requiring untaught translation skills)#and yeah...MAYBE our educational institutions could spend less time/money on shakespeare critical analysis and more on...#...any of thousands of underfunded areas of literary research i literally (pun!) don't know where to begin#oh and p.s. the modern publishing world is in shambles and it would be neat if schoolwork could include modern works?#beautiful complicated socially relevant works of literature are published every year. it's not just the 'classics' that have value#and actually modern publications are probably an easier way for students to learn the basics. since lesson plans don't have to include the#important historical/cultural context many teens need for 20+ year old media (which is older than their entire lived experience fyi)

Bless that trophy wife anon because they’re right. There’s no way mindscape citizens see whatever dipper does in the real world as a real career and he has no job in bill’s realm either, whether he likes it or not he’s entwined with bill’s world and his people and he can’t blame them for thinking his job is being bill’s husband.
That’s what pisses him off, the fact that they’re right.
No matter how Dipper protests that yes, he DOES have a job, the beings in the Fearamid don't believe it's 'real', or worse - humor him, then give Knowing Looks to the other demons in the room.
Meanwhile, Bill knows it's real - but sometimes he plays along like it isn't just to piss Dipper off.
#answers#Oh of COURSE it's great that you're keeping busy sweetie!!#I'm sure this..... 'hero' thing is pretty. Um. Interesting!!#All the while clearly Not Getting It in the same way tech-illiterate grandparents don't believe the Internet has Careers#Demons give negative shits about human life on average#When said lives are basically a point on a scorecard devoting your own to Improving them is very much an eyebrow raising 'job' choice#Dipper might as well be talking about his own personal MMO for all that they care about the 'points' he's scored or any of the 'characters'#Bill's smarter and gets that it's a serious gig - but he's also a very infuriating spouse at times#It's a good thing he has other qualities or he'd be intolerable#Some would even say he is even WITH his supposed 'positive' traits!#Sadly Dipper has very bad taste in men and loves the hell out of him anyway#Also the demons *do* have a point#Technically Bill's bankrolling all the magic you're using in your career Dipper#Even if it IS a real job you're still a bit of a sugar baby#Watch Dipper throw a fit and go no-magic for a time just to Prove Them Wrong#This in turn upsets Bill who's not thrilled about all the close calls to his husband's life#If Dipper weren't so stupid CLEVER about it he'd be furious!!#Now Bill's all conflicted with 'stupid not to use all the advantages and NEARLY DYING' and 'ah crap that was smart as hell and SUPER hot'#Overall leaving him very >:(

Deciding Zoro is literally illiterate because he doesn't like to read? Bad and mean spirited
Deciding Zoro is a human calculator because he was able to multiply 108 by 2? Absurd but funny
#one piece#zoro#roronoa zoro#I hate the Zoro is illiterate headcanon :)#him being great at math because he could do a simple multiplication is also ridiculous#but at least it's actually funny

Is Guts smart? What can you say about his intelligence? From the male part of the fandom where I was, they called him a brilliant strategist and in general he is the smartest character in Berserk lol It's been a while since I read Berserk, but I feel like Guts was definitely doing something irrational.
He's not the smartest character in Berserk lol, but he's not dumb either.
He's good at like, analytical thinking in the middle of a fight, eg when he fights Silat and pinpoints his weapons' weaknesses despite never having seen them before, realizing he can't defeat Zodd in a contest of strength but he can break Zodd's sword, recognizing Serpico's advantages whenever they duel, etc.
He's also decent at putting two and two together when it comes to understanding people. Like when he realizes Farnese traded an engagement for a ship, or when he outmaneuvers the priest in the troll village in rhetoric and forces him to extend them hospitality lol. I think that he often doesn't give a shit about this kind of thing so he can come across as dumb (not knowing Griffith intends to marry Charlotte, not bowing to the king until Griffith makes him, etc) but I feel like it's a matter of priority. When it has an immediate impact on him, he can figure shit out, otherwise he doesn't bother.
But yeah I don't think he's one of the smartest characters in Berserk. He's average at best, with a talent wrt fighting tactics. Griffith, Serpico, Judeau, Casca, even Rickert are all smarter than him imo. He has a lot of blind spots that fuck him over and make him miss obvious things and act irrationally (must fight monsters, must earn Griffith's love, must get revenge). Godo even has a line in chapter 131 about Guts running towards something singlemindedly and nicking himself on something else because he misses everything he's not focused on.
And he's just not very mindful in general. He can use his brain but like, the big temptation of the Beast of Darkness/the armour is turning off his brain and acting on instinct lol. He doesn't demonstrate any interest in learning new things beyond fighting techniques, he's adequate at reading people but fails at it a lot too, he's cocky and headstrong, prone to ignoring his own vulnerabilites...
So yeah, that's my take. He's not stupid, he has some smart moments, and especially when it's applicable to fighting he's very capable of analytical thought, but intelligence isn't exactly his biggest asset, and plenty of other characters are smarter than him. Thanks for asking!
#ask#anonymous#b#a#character: guts#character thoughts#also it goes without saying but just in case note that idt education factors in#being presumably illiterate doesn't make guts dumb eg#but not having any interest in learning anything outside his wheelhouse isn't a sign of a great thinker either

On today's episode of gender is totally not enforced™, a growing portion of fandom discourse about the new Netflix series Blue Eye Samurai is revolving around how the main character, a gnc woman is actually a trans man. Because you know uhh, pulling off a Mulan-like scheme makes you male apparently.
#the Tokugawa period was very cruel to women sooo not wanting to be perceived as one isn't really that outrageous given cultural context#also yes she experiences osa and ofc the fandom already labeled her as a gay trans man#anyhow the portrayals of gnc women in media are great and wonderful but man is the public perception illiterate to what a woman is#anyway pls watch this show it's too good and the animation has all that#I have been a walking advert for this show lately I am spreading gospel#gender critical#female not feminine

Hello, im wehaveagathering from my main blog, im kind of obsessed with your hockey poetry edits and I think your blog is great! I guess I kind of have a dumb question, where do you find the images you use for your edits? Did you say Getty in your tags?? I’ve gotten into making icons recently (and i have ideas for poetry edits hrrrghhh) but it’s hard to find high res images. Thanks for your time and I hope you have a nice day :)
first of all thank you so much 🥹 and second that’s absolutely not a dumb question!! i do pull a lot of images from getty and i’ll also download pictures from sports articles (i got a lot of the hugheses pictures from online access articles, for example), or sometimes from instagram/facebook/twitter if an account is public. freely admitting that i am not technologically advanced? inclined? in the slightest here, but the image editing software that you use and how you import/export photos with it makes a difference in the quality of them as well!
if you haven’t seen them yet, i would also recommend checking out @simmyfrobby @national-hockey-lesbian @hauntedppgpaints @tapedsleeves @starscelly and @captainbradmarchand’s blogs just off the top of my head!!! they might know more places to get high res images and also i love their work 💕🫶
#sorry can’t type hands all butterfly hearts i’m just out here like 🥰🥰🥰🥹🥹🥹😭😭😭💕💕💕#@ everyone i tagged ty i love you i hope you don’t mind the tag 😘 also i KNOW i am unintentionally forgetting people so tag them at will#forgive me i am eepy. we are running on <4 hours of sleep and over 18 hours awake 🫡#liv in the replies#join the club!!! join the club!!!!! we love the hockey poetry edits!!!!!! i’m so excited to see what you create!!!!! :)))))#the process of me finding images is very much like. either i have a vision in my head and i troll getty looking for it or my screenshots#if i know i have one l m a o but either way i am always 68 pages deep in a hyper specific search labeling my photos like ‘ohHHH buddy’#‘menace 1 abd 2’ ‘but he’s not a cup winner’ ‘ohhhh the nolpat media scrums are rich earth’#‘because WILLY WON’T CUT HIS HAIR’ ‘deJA FUCKIN MILK BAYBE’ ‘is it truly sn edit if u don’t find a devastating baby pic’ ‘yes MF last line’#and so forth. like. glad it’s comprehensible to ME but if anyone else ever tried to use these photos based on file name alone i am so sorry#also i forget that y’all can’t see all of the metadata notes on photos to know where they’re from :/ i gotta be better abt making it clear#also on the note about image quality i just need to state for the record i am so photoshop whatever illiterate.#i learn one (1) new trick on GIMP a year maybe two if i am lucky & no i have never figured out consistent sizing 🫡 but the one hack for res#i HAVE figured out is that when i do edits i usually make a whole doc w/the poem lined up on it (helps me keep somewhat consistent sizing)#and then i export that document as a pdf and edit the pdf in the software instead of trying to screencap or jpeg or anything. PDF quality >#that is probably so convoluted lol if anyone has tips please lmk i am always learning#ANYWAY. rambling u did not ask for but is inherent to Me.#have a great day too!!!!! you literally made mine so 💕😭#wehaveagathering#indecisor

i love it when i find out that a french-speaking artist i'm a fan of is belgian
#my great-grandmother was belgian#it'd be a lie to say i'm in touch with that ancestry but other than irish that's really all i am#i have three irish catholic grandparents and then on my mom's side one random finnish-belgian grandmother#whose last name was english because her father just took the name of the guy in front of him at ellis island#bc whatever finnish name he had. the guy doing the paperwork didn't wanna spell it and he wasn't literate.#like most white americans i don't know my own family history very well#but i make a good irish-american stereotype bc im a redheaded lapsed catholic from a giant family based in massachusetts#can't get much more irish-american than that#tales from diana#my great-grandmother didn't even speak french tho. she was flemish#she was also illiterate and according to my mother not the brightest bulb in the lamp in the common sense department#basically everyone on both sides of my mom's family had a very rough background#is what it is

My ass needs to be in bed but I was looking at my anilist-yes I have one as it’s super helpful to keep track of anime I’ve watched + plan to watch-since i finished big o s1 they separated s2 as a different thing and WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN INTERNATIONAL VIEWINGS BASICALLY SAVED THE SHOW FROM ENDING ON A CLIFFHANGER??
#meg text#the big o#this is utterly fucking insane to me#I know this can happen cause like sonic x wasn’t planned a third season but 4kids demand it lol#but this is “we had the whole show planned but no one in Japan liked it- I guess it’s better we cancel it midway through”#us dubbing it: this is a hit! Let’s fund the studio!#this is so generous especially given it was cartoon fucking network who was involved#aka the company who after the 2000s into the 2010s stopped giving a fuck about their shows#but they helped continue a show that was OVERSEAS just because it did well on their side anime block#also it’s crazy how well big o did do given the west does not know mecha well#I wonder if this was certain states or like universally the show did great everywhere in US#because I feel my state is so anime illiterate but maybe that’s due to being around too many normies irl#honestly given this show didn’t get more that’s probably why people forgot about it#which is still dumb because older things are worth the time but hey at least this show got finished as intended#maybe we don’t live in a dark timeline if we’re in the one that big o finished in /j

I’ve been doing volunteer work for one of the National Parks Service offices in my state (since it was remote and it sounded interesting) for about two months now. It’s just transcribing old documents digitally so researchers don’t have to try and parse hundred year old handwriting while they’re working but like, I enjoy it a lot more than I thought I would. And that’s primarily because people are just… people. There’s very petty telegrams and overworked middle managers and people being accused of drunk and disorderly conduct while on the job and it’s great. I get free century old drama every time I sit down to get through a new batch of documents
#maria rambles#there’s also racism#but like. we’re hating on the Irish and the Italians type of racism#like those damn illiterate assholes stole our jobs#which is unfortunately an echo of the shit I still hear#it was only really like One Guy though and I haven’t seen his name in a while so anyway everything else is great#although I am so bad at reading cursive. so very bad#I keep having to ask someone if they’re reading it as an N an M or a really fucked up U#etcetera etcetera

been seeing a few posts from various people about reading habits and actually. my opinion is if something gets you to read then it’s better than nothing at all. fanfiction? cool. stuff you read in middle school? cool. classics? cool. super serious adult fiction? cool. ya? cool. biographies? cool. guinness world records? cool. so long as you’re able to comprehend and process the works and critically think about what’s presented then who cares
#this is being said as a former 'read twenty books a day' kid who is now an illiterate english major.#to be fair I think I might be getting out of my 'too depressed to read' state that I was in but like. I still have the trouble of#I have nowhere to put books like my bookshelf is stacked Very Carefully so I can't remove anything.#but having the opportunity to have the space and time to read last night. I managed most of the 1986 gwr book.#which is great because I haven't read properly in forever#and like. I'm not gonna say social media wholly caused my inability to read but it played a role.#which is worth thinking about. even if it was mostly 'life got shaken up badly and I hadn't really been exposed to anything I Wanted to read#so I simply didn't'#y'know???#though to be fair I am also one of those people who goes 'think all published lit is bad? read better books. think fanfictions sucks?#read better fanfic' type of people. genuinely reading is about finding the thing you like most#with a bit of comprehension and analysis thrown in but if you enjoy something you probably do that subconsciously Anyway#also like. I understand why people do it but shaming people for solely reading ya or whatever in their adult years is. kinda silly#like what's the average reading age in america? grade eight level? that's fourteen aka ya level reading#the average american is not going to be a fourteen year old. hence it's fine to read what you're comfortable at reading#you wouldn't shove a baby in front of the entire body of shakespeare's works and expect them to read it perfectly#and give you a twelve-page essay on it would you!#and a reminder; critical thinking is about what's being presented in this work? what sorts of metaphors or similes are used?#is there anything the author has written that's good? what's bad? what biases are present?#that sorta thing. if you're actually reading the text you should have at least a vague idea of how to answer

#this gifset is great but I HIGHLY recommend going and finding some of her full...sets? dances? IDK what they call them#I'm ice skate illiterate#but like - if you want to see just the most bonker conkers talent here it is#also her conflict with the horrific racist shitheads at the head of Ice Skate Rules is awful and worth talking mroe about

#柄本佑#tasuku emoto#光る君へ#hikaru kimi e#1x25#made by me#fujiwara no michinaga#藤原道長#michinaga in this episode:#being a girl/boy dad 🥰#taking out his frustration on Yukinari😡#not understanding what Haruaki implied basically because Saburo can only write his own name (illiterate!michinaga me loves)#interesting relationship development w/ Takaie#manipulating Ichijo tenno into doing things he wanted him to do😱#heard Mahiro's getting married and behaved perfectly as an adult#phewwww what a busy couple o' months in Dairi#tbh it's so scary to see michinaga's sooooooooo manipulative#you know he's going places but it makes you fear that it might not be by the RIGHT way#also I wanna say that#I feel like. the acting normal after the big reveal of mahiro getting married is such a genji vibe#that's definitely a reaction genji would have#but then the many things he granted mahiro with a normal congratulations note that's not his handwriting#that's very RealHistory!michinaga-coded#and I think it's AWESOME#that Oishi sensei & Tasuku-san fuse the two characters together#both did a great job#I love Tasuku-san's little frown with a hint of self deprecation#also understanding#so subtle and nuanced#oh michinaga you LOVER

I don't get people. They'll hate something just in concept and they've never seen it in context. Like wtf.
I try to temper my hopes with lots of company schlock but I also wanna go in with a somewhat open mind.
Idk
Sometimes people's distaste is justified and sometimes it's not. Sometimes it's rooted in real toxic behavior and social media + YouTube has made critical readings of art a nightmare.
#im just vague posting cause goddammit i wanna be excited about something but not have to go in knowing itll probably be bad#usa education system failed to teach people good literary critical thinking skills#social media is also just the worst to discuss nuance#someone will have a 2 hr video essay and the comments are people arguing off topic#distracted and arguing over one side comment#or just rambling paragraphs of illiterate nonsense#we have great platforms to share ideas and think critically and expand our view points#while also having endless dumb arguments that get us nowhere#both are true
