Second of all, we got our twitter account back! We ended up deleting that one post that twitter didn’t like (yes, the one that doesn’t have anything explicit or any nudity on it), which obviously sucks, but at least now we can jump back to posting more or less regularly.

And now that this situation is over, I can say about the thing that honestly tickled me: the last person who wrote a callout post on me right before our acc got locked (=the person who very likely caused the massreporting in the first place) got accused of grooming a 13 y.o. and had their account terminated the very next day. What a great illustration of how the fandom climate works, right? Hilarious.

We love first year Rook with first year Idia so much, Anon, you have no idea! And Rook/Idia in general, this is one of the things that I really want to draw properly at least once. For now we only have sketches…

But to answer your question! I like to think that Rook was very intrigued by Idia right away; of course Idia isn’t a beastman, but he is not only super bright and shiny-looking (unusual! Interesting!), but also is a very rare pokemon to see. It’s very easy to picture Rook getting excited and charmed by him, maybe he even had a period of a little obsession~ But of course none of this is in any way returned by Idia; to him being suddenly surrounded by so many loud and annoying people his age is already stressful enough, but Rook is somehow worse than all of them combined. He hates everyone from Savanaclaw, but they’re usually just rude jerks, but Rook? If only he was a rude jerk…

This is such a good question, Anon. It’s honestly still kind of easy to imagine him doing that. He punishes himself constantly, and while I don’t think this is necessarily about control, this absolutely could be about wanting to make himself feel even worse or to distract himself from the other kind of deep pain he’s feeling. Since we’re talking about a character here, as an artist I can also add that seeing him this way could be aesthetically pleasing, there are some very good artworks with this theme.

That being said, we usually tend to think that Idia wouldn’t do that. I agree that Idia being phobic of pain sounds very like him, but also? He is very detached from the physical side of things in general, I think. He would rather torment himself mentally.

Another reason for Idia and selfharm not really working in our heads is that I don’t think Ortho would let him. He is very sensitive to changes in his health condition after all.

I love how Hika drew Selena's eyelashes and underlashes with the dots...

I asked Hika to draw TYL Xanxus' design since I felt like his TYL (Ten Years Later) design would be easier to draw.

Hika originally chose a dark blue BG colour for the both of them, but changed it to yellow and red respectively to make them stand out more!

The blue ones were nice, but omg the final versions Hika went with, do reflect their actual colours better. These fit them better! Matching eye colors (plus it makes their hair stand out from the BG more)

Since Selena and Xanxus are toned with blue/purple in Hika's colours, the new BGs have more visual contrast!

Hika was very accommodating with minor colour edits and revisions as well! 🙏

I wanna commission Hika to draw JuAli and IdaTatsu with my headcanon designs of them in the future 🥰💘✨

I feel like the KHR ani style goes for a much more generic art style, compared to Amano's unique art style.

For Xanxus' late manga design (Rainbow arc Xanxus), Amano improves the shape of his hair and makes it more wavy and easier to draw.

Amano has an amazing art style, and really detailed lineart and inking. She's one of the biggest inspirations for me. Her style was honestly very inspirational for me...

I started drawing everyday as a kid (at 11) BECAUSE of KHR, so KHR is very important and personal to me. I first watched KHR and read the manga at 11.

Amano's style is honestly defining to my style - It shows in the way I draw faces and eyes.

I'm not big on the KHR ani's art style, but I do appreciate what it gave us with the chibi interviews, character songs, etc. It's also cuz of the KHR ani that we (somehow) get endless KHR merch.

I prefer the manga designs, but I prefer the ani's colours for the charas because the KHR ani generally gave the KHR cast more skintone variety (when everyone was pasty in the original manga)

The KHR ani did such a great job by giving the KHR charas more skintone variety... Even pale charas in the KHR ani have different skin tones from each other.

Original vs. My Edit

I headcanon Xanxus to have tanner/warmer skin.

Xanxus with darker skin (olive skin in the KHR ani, and either olive or tan skin in certain KHR ani merch arts), literally just looks better from a character design perspective, imo. That's just facts 📠

His design has much better colour contrast with the ani colours. Like the black and red colours in his design contrast better with darker skin. Also against his blood/wine red eyes. It has more colour harmony and cohesiveness in terms of the colours

Xanxus with pale skin has less cohesiveness in terms of the colours

Xanxus, Yamamoto, and Ryouhei's designs just look so much more boring, pale, imo.

For KHR, I go manga design + ani colours + my own take on the ani colours.

Since I have a tendency to saturate colours with my own arts.

As a personal HC, I think Xanxus has a very mixed ethnicity.

My Italian American friend Feuri said Southern Italy and namely Sicily has a more mixed population.

The ani colours provide a good base for me to work off of for me to improve the colours :3

I do colour edits for fun. I like playing around with colours (editing official arts to see how the colours work together) to help guide my arts. I either do colour edits first or just immediately start picking colours for my arts

I usually hand artists a Drive folder filled with XanLena's art refs (including my own doodles) and write some notes on their design details since this makes things easier for the artists I'm commissioning.

Selena is Vietnamese/SEAsian with light tanned skin. She has black hair with a long ponytail that goes down to around the same length as her long front hair strands, and wears a white blouse with frills and a black seam with white buttons. She wears a black pleated skirt with a white line near the ends, and black thigh highs with horizontal white diamonds, and black doll-like shoes.

Since Xanxus wears a brown fluffy accessory, red feathers (that may be dyed red -> orange -> yellow), green strings with red beads, I don't mind if the artists I comm simplify these details.

So, whenever I commission artists, I ask for them to draw my HC versions! I'm very glad that all the artists I've commissioned have been very accommodating! 🙏💖

The modern remakes of old 90s - 2000s animes have such boring and bland dull colours to me.

I seriously fear that if they ever do a KHR remake or reboot, that they're gonna take away the OG KHR ani's better colours and make everyone look pasty pale (just like in the manga) just for "manga authenticity" and "loyalty to the source material" even though everyone looks so much more boring pasty pale!!! 🧍

I honestly usually just say it’s an oc and not a self insert because idk I always feel like people on twitter judge selfship side of fandom so I get scared the artists will be the same 😭 typically they’re not and they’re super nice but I find it easier this way HAHA. for my first comm I just sort of described myself like “medium tan skin tone and dark brown curly hair and eyes…” and etc and the artist just sort of delivered HAHA. You honestly could search for refs on pinterest for hair styles or skin tone or body shapes and stuff if you feel you need to provide a visual but don’t wanna use a pic of yourself. I also find outfit refs on pinterest and yeah that’s about it! Once I got my first comm, I just started using that as the ref for my “oc” for every comm afterwards but yeah all I really do is send the pose ref, the ref for me, and maybe the outfit

(Idia doesn't dare tell them he needs a reference, but if he did they would definitely make Idia watch them fuck you so that he can see the anatomy of eel mer and human in real time. farewell Idia's sanity; he can't get away from 3D fish porn.) Azul is given his version of the commission, which is just him and his darling in the same situation as Tako to Ama. And the twins are given the version with them and you. Wait until Azul finds it hanging in a nice frame in their dorm room and he's like, "Who made this???? Why are you slimy fools with my beloved?????? And why is it in that exact situation????????" The trio are all so tall!!! Azul is 176 cm and the twins are 190 and 191 cm respectively. And they're even larger in their mer forms. orz I think the exact size of Jade and Floyd in their eel forms was mentioned once, but I could be wrong. I do know that Azul is much larger than both of them combined (I feel like Floyd pointed this fact out at some point in the story?). Either way, Azul and his mother are definitely bigger than eel mers. I feel like size kink works well with any merfolk because they're probably all much larger than humans.

Omg...there are many fruity things I love to EAT but as for the act of baking, it has to be banana bread! I think I can make banana bread in my sleep at this point! It's fun to make, yummy to eat, and attached to fond memories. You see, I was the only one in my family who really liked bananas growing up, and my mom can't stand even the smell or feel of them. But she used to make banana bread just for me, because I loved it so much. So banana bread on the whole feels like love, so I always share it with people I care about. Those who like bananas, anyway, lol!

Also: YES PLEASE pineapple on pizza!!!! Actually my favorite pizza order is getting a pineapple and jalapeño pizza from Dominos. I highly recommend it. Spicy and sweet!! It's perfect!! (Oh wow, I think I know what I'm having for dinner tonight!)

Funnily enough, I AM a summer person! Which is extra funny because I live in Louisiana, which is basically Satan's oven. But I can't STAND to be cold, so I much prefer the heat. I love the sunshine and the flowers and the color! I also love all of the cute dresses I get to wear!

Werewolves 100% (even if I was a Team Edward fan back in the day.) (Funnily enough my partner's name is Edward, so that was probably fated.) (Generally, though, I don't care for vampires.) Also, yes! I wear an Apple watch everyday! I never wore a watch before it, though. Now I can't imagine not having one! I sleep with it so it tracks my sleep, because I have chronic insomnia so it helps to have an idea about how I'm sleeping!

I do have tattoos! I have 3! I have the Taurus glyph on my pelvis, the Deathly Hallows symbol on my back, and the word Invictus on my left arm, just below the elbow. The word is an ambigram, so it can be read upside down and rightside up. Invictus is the name of my favorite poem (but it's also the name of a Snarry fic I really love, and I discovered said poem from said fic.)

Sadly, I have no pets rn! :( My living space is not very pet friendly. My partner and I hope to move within the next few years and when we do, we plan to get a pet! We both love big dogs so I wanna get a puppy that will grow into a giant pupper-oo. But we shall see! I used to have 3 cats, though, and when I lived with my roommates they all had a ton of animals. At our most chaotic there were 10 animals in that house: 5 cats, 4 pitbulls, and a chihuahua! And yes, it was Heaven.

If JKR forked over the HP universe to me there is only one right answer: make Snarry canon. That is like the only thing I care about. Though I guess I'd also be getting money and could visit the theme parks a lot. And I could get a house with a dedicated HP room. And I could endlessly commission Lu Endland for Snarry art. But my # 1 priority would just be to make it Snarry. Is that silly? Maybe, but idc. I know where my heart belongs.

ANY mythical creature??? Oh no, choices! My first thought was unicorn. But then I thought about it more and figured I wanna be a fairy. I just wanna be pretty and magical, that's it. But then I figured realistically I would be a dragon. Just a dragon hoarding my treasure and going about my dragonly business, only for all hell to break loose if you even look at my books/candles/mugs/crystals sideways.

Why are you asking so many hard questions?? You are quite cruel, methinks. Never pet a dog again?? But if I could learn art super easy and quickly then I could create Snarry art!! And the world is in dire need of more Snarry art, right???? Okay I think I'd take the deal. I can cuddle a dog without petting it, right?? Right????

The last book I finished was....I have no idea, I've not read anything besides fanfiction in so long!! I'm pretty sure it was an astrology book. Grapes 100%. I don't care for alcohol! And I would NOT lick Snape, are you out of your mind?? 1.) I'm pretty sure he would kill me and 2.) that's Harry's job. I will instead find a Snarry fic where Harry licks Snape from head to toe, as is appropriate.

To be honest, I don’t think I have a favourite sea creature. For now, due to my love for the Octa-trio, I have a big soft spot for moral eels and octopuses. A couple of years ago we had a phase during which we read a lot about sharks. The fact that baby sharks are called pups!! I’m still obsessed with this fact.

In general, sea is fascinating and truly beautiful, but it was never really my thing, so I don’t know much about different kinds of creatures… Should definitely work on that 🤔

Omg you’re right, we only posted him once (not counting a chibi drawing + fem!Leona in a big genderswap post). It’s so funny, I feel like I draw him every now and then because of commissions (thank you, everyone orz), but at the end of a day we barely have anything Leona-related. The only character less lucky than him is probably poor Cater…

AAAH honestly Anon it would be such an interesting story to read and/or watch. Kalim would probably consider giving up multiple times, but ultimately decide against it because he doesn’t really want to die either lol

To Jamil it would absolutely be a joy though. I think some of Kalim’s relatives would try to bribe him out of helping Kalim though, “kill him in his sleep and we will give you a better life” type of deal. But Jamil would refuse~ Not because he’s loyal to Kalim or anything, of course of course.

Anon, this ship is so good visually with the size difference and all, and Epel salivating at the thought of Jack’s muscles because he really wants to have muscles himself (in reality he is just attracted to Jack) is such a good idea, and we absolutely see its potential… but unfortunately somehow they don’t click with us just yet. Maybe it’s because it feels too fluffy, with Epel getting in trouble and Jack getting him out of trouble? Maybe we’re missing this spice because we haven’t seen a lot of their interactions. Only time will tell…

I commissioned KuroEne wearing formal wear with a Snake and Bunny theme, surrounded by Red Higanbana (Cluster Amaryllis), the flower that Saeru is associated with 🖤💙🐍🐇💐

I asked for Kuroha to be drawn in his Design Poll outfit, and for Ene to be drawn in her Seek at Mekakucity outfit 🥰

I chose their formal outfits because I feel like they fit very well with the Royal theme and Coffin aesthetic.

I asked for Higanbana to be scattered around the coffin, and to have a snake wrapping around an Ene-themed bunny plushie (with her digital facial structures) and a blue ribbon 💝🎀

Once again, thank you to Feila for helping me discuss and come up with ideas 💗 I'm glad you were able to share your thoughts with me!

This comm has 1 main flower type, so at first I considered Forget me nots, the flower I associate with Ene, but I decided to go with Higanbana.

I chose Higanbana as Kuroha's flower based on its Hanakotoba meaning, since it fits him aesthetically (colours wise) and symbolism wise. It's also the flower that he's associated with in the Kagerou Daze -from the darkness- art by Sidu.

After the gorgeous KuroEne Ticket Comm that Mire did for me, I was very excited to commission them again.

This time too, I first got the message when I woke up in the morning, so I was pleasantly surprised... My forever beloved childhood OTP~ BREATHTAKINGLY GORGEOUS 🥹💗💞💘

My commission came out absolutely stunning! 🥰💞 I'm so happy with how it turned out! KuroEne look so beautiful in Mire's style 🖤💙

Mire perfectly captured their theme-ing and motifs. The art style, colours, rendering, and graphic design are all so pretty… I'm amazed by the attention to detail. Everything is so gorgeous 😭💗

I love the geometric rendering style Mire has that makes their hair look so fluffy. The colours harmonize so well together, omg. Mire always delivers 😭💞

Mire puts SO much effort into the colouring, rendering, details, and graphic design. The design of the frame is so good 🤯💥I'm utterly blown away... Everything is so gorgeous 😭 💗

Their art style is really pretty... They're so attentive to details and included all the requests I asked for: Kuroha's smug expression, the red Higanbana (Cluster Amaryllis), and the snake wrapping around an Ene-themed bunny plushie.

They were super nice and accommodating with minor changes as well, such as with Kuroha's headphones.

The vertical and horizontal versions are both so good! I would love to print this out for personal use and hang it on my wall as prints 💗

I was wondering if VGen had any way to tip artists, and it does, with the Boost feature.

So I boosted the commissions on VGen for both the Ticket and Coffin YCH comms to show my appreciation for the gorgeous artworks Mire made me. So I sent roughly a 25% and 35% tip :)

I really wanna gush about this art, because Mire captured KuroEne's theme-ing and motifs perfectly 🥺🙏 They drew their design details and outfits so well, and the colours and rendering are so amazing…

They have such great attention to detail, like with the snake wrapping around an Ene themed bunny plushie... The bunny plush is SOOO cute. I love the design of the border frames used for this YCH comm too. The quality is seriously outstanding…

I requested KuroEne with Mire's Inside the Coffin YCH comm after my previous KuroEne Ticket Surprise Me (Omakase) comm, since I really wanted to see KuroEne in Mire's adorable chibi style.

Ene's feet scatter into pixels in canon, so I like how Mire made Ene wear boots with cross-laced XXX shaped straps since it makes things easier to draw with the YCH base.

Ene with her XXX straps on her dress and boots, and Mr. XXX peering over the coffin ❌😌 Not visible, but he has little X's on the back of his Design Poll outfit.

I asked for a bunny plushie with Ene's digital facial structures on it with a snake wrapping around it to represent KuroEne thematically, since I thought it'd fit them very well.

Kuroha/Saeru is associated with Higanbana (Red Cluster Amaryllis), the Flower of Death, by Sidu.

The dark evil cunning and malicious entity who is the cause and center of death, is the one lovingly (menacingly) peering at Ene lying in a coffin while putting his hands on the sides, as a kind of ominous foreshadowing for what comes at the end of a Route…

If you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes back at you.

I've always thought of this quote in terms of confronting your own death and mortality. He's not ready to come to terms with it, either, hence feeding the cycle (with all the time loop resets)

The higanbana is so pretty and detailed… They're so good at drawing flowers. The scale textures on the snake look hand drawn too.

I sent these as refs. Feila and I discussed ideas on what poses, expressions, flowers, and items would fit best based on their symbolisms and in terms of visual contrast.

If I wanted them as marketable animal plushies, I'd pick these. The snake and bunny plushie are SOOOOO cute.

The bunny plushie with the headband is just so cute, I'm obsessed with it 😭💗 It's just SO Ene-core 💙🐇

I love their Design poll outfits and Ene's Seek at Mekakucity outfit sm… They look so elegant. Takane/Ene, my princess 💙

閃光の舞姫 (Senkou no Maihime) has also been translated as "Dancing Princess of the Spotlight" in older fan-TLs 😌💗

I initially had the idea of a snake wrapping around a bunny plushie or a golden apple (that Saeru is associated with in the Joker art by Sidu because it symbolizes immortality)

Added with how Fujimori (most likely) depicts Saeru in the chibi MekaDan Playing Cards as a Shinigami (死神, lit. "Kami of Death") or a Grim Reaper, with the scythe (which are closely associated with shinigami and grim reapers), and a Jester/Clown aesthetic with the Jester hat, to play up to the Joker card motif 🃏♦️

Feila said the depiction of him as a Shinigami or Grim Reaper feels fitting for him since he brings death to other people.

And that the Jester/Clown look is to represent the eternal looping of the Tragedy (August 15th incident) is a grand show/play that's been rehearsed many times

Snake wrapping around a bunny -> Saeru trapping Ene

Snake wrapping around a golden apple -> Saeru is the embodiment of knowledge

Went with the 1st cuz it represents his S/O falling for his trap (seductions). Since snakes trap their prey by wrapping themselves around their prey.

I liked the idea of Saeru having a smug smile while holding onto the coffin's edges, and Ene having an annoyed pout :< like in a "Damn it, stop killing us" kinda way

Higanbana

Forget Me Nots and Cluster Amaryllis

Wanted to ramble about how Saeru is associated with Higanbana.

I thought that picking Forget Me Nots (Wasurenagusa) could have interesting and yummy angst fuel, like how Ene won't remember their past memories together in previous Routes since he's the only one that remembers (aside from Ayaki), and how she wouldn't want him to ever forget the crimes he did and his past karma.

Even if he's the only one that remembers and has zero remorse about his deeds (lol), his karma still follows him like a shadow :)

Using Higanbana, the Flower of Death, Saeru's flower, would represent him always being with her while also being her cause of death. Its symbolism is perfect for Saeru, which is why I chose it.

Black Higanbana doesn't exist IRL (similar to Blue Higanbana too), but they tend to be used in creative works. Red higanbana sometimes turns black when they wilt.

However, there is "Black-flower Higanbana" (Kurobana higanbana) that's a variant of Higanbana. It's a deeper red colour and has a darker black gradient on the reds.

When I first saw the LN 7 art of Kuroha, I HC'ed that it was Higanbana because of how similar the shape (how it looked like the spindles of Higanbana), so I associated it to him as one of his flowers due to its Hanakotoba meanings (flower symbolism) as the Flower of Death.

Also cuz the MekaDan are associated with various symbolisms (ie. Shintaro and Ayano with paper cranes, Ayano with Chrysanthemums (Kiku) in Sidu's Hanafuda Calendar Art (2016) and in Additional Memory)

So I expected that Sidu making Saeru's Awakening Eyes manifest as black snakes or a black aura that resembles Higanbana, to be very intentional on her part.

I'm very happy to see my HC was confirmed cuz Sidu writes Higanbana (彼岸花) next to him on the rough sketch version 😌❤️

Higanbana fits his character perfectly with how he's at the center of death. It's the Flower of Death/Hell and grows in hell (the side of the dead), Higan (彼岸, lit. "The other side"), the far side of the Sanzu River.

They're usually grown around cemeteries and grave sites. They're usually red, the colour of blood, somewhat toxic, and are often associated with an unlucky/bad omen symbolism, which fits him.

Though Higanbana also has good omens too, like symbolizing that happy things will come, since it is also called the "Heavenly Flower"

I'm in the process of writing a more detailed post on KuroEne and Flower Symbolisms, based on my own picks, but I haven't finished writing it yet since I want to talk about all the flowers I chose for them in depth.

I put the ideas that Feila and I came up with for the comm under the cut.

So the YCH form has a couple different poses and expressions and flower suggestions listed.

When Feila and I discussed ideas, we figured that Ene fits more as the one in the coffin. I was wondering whether to have him holding onto the coffin or resting his elbows on the coffin while his hands press against his face. One is reminiscing, the other is mocking.

But then I went with the 1st cuz his Design Poll outfit has larger sleeves and I wouldn't want it cover too much of his design, since his arms would be raised in that pose.

Total coincidence and the shoes definitely a stylistic choice, but it fits since she's occupying an android body in the context of my KuroEne AU, so she would have shoes.

Kiri definitely takes advantage of it and the worst thing is that it’s not even a fight cause with Kirishima’s quirk he’s completely immune to tickling (and also attempts at other types of attacks in general - explosions - to make him stop) so once he manages to get a hold of Bakugou and start tickling him all Bakugo can do is yell and cry-laugh and hate him a lot hahaha

Commission For Dee

A lighthearted femslash story featuring his OC’s Sunny and Ellie

Orientation Day 1, State Science University

The campus was bustling with waves of freshman and their parents and their siblings. Boxes and boxes of belongings weaved through the halls and up through the stairs and elevators of the dorms. Orientation staff hopped up and coffee and Adderall chirped and squeaked directions to lost family and student alike. The warm sunlight sifted through the trees that lined the walkways from building to building.

And one of those rays highlighted the very blonde hair of one such freshman, Sunny. Sunny graduated from a local high school with accolades enough to cover herself. Like some freshmen, she had no anxieties in making new friends and cracking jokes. She currently was lugging up the last box out her family’s Geo.

Sunny’s mother was clucking about like a mother hen, pulling the bed sheets to exact tightness. Sunny’s father was checking the outlets to see if all her devices were supported.

“There’s too little outlets, Sunny,” Her father told her, taking the box off her hands, “After we get everything settled, we’re going to the hardware store.” He was an old, stocky man with a bright and full mustache. His passion for electricity powered her ambition for robotics, which brought her a good amount of the said accolades. Sunny’s little brother bounced around, being a twelve-year old with decently managed ADHD.

“Power bar!” He jumped into the bed.

“That’s what we need, yes,” Her father replied.

“Adrian!” Her mother gasped, peeling her son off and redoing the sheets, “This is your sister’s room!”

“No, no, it’s alright mom, really,” Sunny stammered, “Classic Adrian,” she chuckled as she took her stress ball and threw it at Adrian.

Across the hall from Sunny’s room was another freshman, maroon-haired, tall, and slim. She was quietly unpacking her bags and blowing the dust off the frames of the family photos. Her name was Ellie, but unlike Sunny she came from a few states over. Ellie’s parents were both in administration, so they couldn’t be as present as they wanted to be. Her older sister was a nurse so she could only give a care package. The commotion across the hall made Ellie homesick so she opened her door ajar to see it.

She took a clandestine glance and then slid down the door, hushed. Her hands covered her rosy cheeks.

There was a cute girl! A cute blonde girl with a distinct bust. With a cute little blonde family.

She had to look again. Then the blonde girl noticed and waved hello. Ellie blushed even harder, sinking into the scratchy carpet. Her heart pounded, just like the times she played pranks using the provisions in the chemistry lab. Even as president of the chemistry club, she still loved the thrill of a prank. Hell, she even had the academic smarts to create the most beautiful and legendary of pranks.

However, to save face, she kept unpacking and smiling over a girl so cute.

After all has been said and done, Sunny and her family set out to the hardware store. Sunny peeped out to the room across the hall, trying to search for the girl she smiled at her. The girl’s maroon hair stood out to her, as also her slim figure.

Her mother chastised her, but she kept her gaze until she reached the elevator.

The moon shone on the solar panel roof of the dorm building. Ellie sat down on her provided chair, which creaked with every small rock. She instead chewed on a stick of rock candy, looking at the moon and thinking of her family and sister back home. She took a big inhale of the university air, took out her rock candy, and let out a big exhale.

This was her life now, a single minnow in a sea of glimmering minnow.

Unless…

A small thud on her door was heard, then a slow creak as it was slowly opened ajar. Sunny peeped in. Ellie almost fell out her chair, grabbing the falling rock candy. She caught the candy end.

“Did I bother you?” Sunny sheepishly asked.

“N-no,” Ellie shuddred at the wet and hard candy in her hand.

“Well, I don’t think I could be normal holding something wet and hard in my hand either,” Sunny giggled.

“Don’t forget sticky,” Ellie added, laughing. The two girls laughed for a bit.

“My name’s Sunny, and I think I’m your neighbor across,” Sunny calmed down enough to say something coherent, reaching her hand out.

“My name’s Ellie,” The maroon-haired replied, “Nice to meet you.” She shook Sunny’s hand with her dry hand, “And yes, you are my neighborino across.”

“And like a good neighborino, we should go to the bathroom to clean that hand.” Ellie put the rock candy back into her mouth and lead themselves to the women’s bathroom below.

“So what’s your major?” Sunny asked, wiping her hands.

“Chemistry,” Ellie spoke nervously. She thanked the heavens for the high-quality Dyson dryer.

“What!?” Sunny was confused.

“CHEMISTRY!”

“WHAT?”

“CHEMISTRY!!” Ellie broke through the wind of the dryer.

“Oh, that’s not too far off from what I’m doing.”

“What are you here for?”

“Mechanical Engineering.”

“Damn, that’s impressive.”

“Yeah, I got straight in. No waitlists or provisional acceptances.”

“Hot damn! I knew the waitlist was super long. I’m just happy I’m here ‘cuz the girl ahead of me got deported.”

Sunny’s jaw dropped, “That’s terrible! How would you know that?”

“My volunteering in the admissions office was another chip that got me in,” Ellie sighed, both hands in pockets, “I managed to get a peep at the spreadsheet one day and managed to see my name in the green and her in the yellow. The day before my name was in the yellow and her in the green. Now that I think about it, her name was red now. I was about to do a drug joke because it said and arrest and deportation, but that’s too dangerous of a prank.”

“Oh my goodness!” Sunny started to giggle in shock.

“Hey, I’m only being honest.”

“That’s a ballsy way to talk about your circumstances of your own admission.”

“Well, my mom told me if I can’t be pretty, be funny.”

“That’s good advice, I guess…?”

“Ladies! Curfew is in effect!” The guard reminded them, “Y’all got major orientations anyway! Go to sleep!”

“Sorry, miss,” Sunny apologized, dragging Ellie up the stairs. Ellie felt her face get hot as she closely at the guard. She regained her senses after realizing that was the guard that kept kicking her out of the garden.

“Wanna exchange numbers?” Ellie asked as they got to their rooms, “Those orientations get boring, you know.”

“Yeah, sure,” Both whipped out their smartphones and exchanged numbers.

“Good night!” Both greeted each other as they went to sleep. As far as Ellie was concerned, she felt like she shouldn’t wash her hand.

Orientation Day 2, State Science University

“Look to your left…” A Chemistry professor drone on. Ellie was nestled between two international students sitting upright and attentive. She buried her chin in her hands and gazed on.

“Look to your right,” He droned on, “Those are going to be the people who leave in this major in a semester or less…” Ellie instantly perked up and looked both ways, snickering to herself. ‘If those are the people that are leaving, then I’m in good hands,’ she thought to herself as she slipped her phone out and started to text.

A phone vibrated elsewhere in the Engineering Hall. Sunny felt it through her jacket pocket. Embarrassed, she gave a stealthy attempt to see the reason why. She started to regret her inclination to sitting in the front. The Engineering Dean was droning on about the need of using the state-of-the-art technology.

“In order to really advance in this major, you really have to use technology, and I’m not just talking about computers. We have tuners, oscillators, and all the lathes our faculty needs to conduct their research. You cannot be tech-illiterate here!” The dean was staring at the projector that was illuminating his lily-white polo. Students started to whisper and giggle.

Sunny then saw her opening, fully taking the phone out her jacket and seeing a text notification from Ellie.

You know that whole ‘look to your left then look to your right’ thing? I literally sat between two international students. That made me feel better lol.

Sunny exhaled in amusement and replied, ‘Omg Ellie. Mine’s just droning about tech. Does he realize we literally grew up with technology?’

So Sunny and Ellie met each other between the two science halls. Sunny threw a stress ball at Ellie. Ellie caught it and threw it back. The girls tossed it between each other and did impressions of all their speakers at their major orientations.

“Look to your left, look to your right,” Ellie contorted her face and did a nasal accent, “Those are the ones who won’t survive.”

“You gotta use technology!” Sunny chortled as she crossed her eyes, “Even though one-hundred percent of the student body has lived with technology all their lives!” Both broke down laughing afterwards as they saw a bemused student with a worried look.

“Dude we should really go, or else people will designate us as the freaks!”

“Yeah, those lines get hella long!”

The girls stood in line, squinting at the menu. The whole restaurant was packed, filled to the brim with students in front and behind the counter.

“So what’s a drink that doesn’t scream white girl?” Ellie drawled.

“Anything that isn’t a Pumpkin Spice Latte,” Sunny replied and shrugged.

“What are you ordering?”

“I’m thinking about a frappe.”

“Me too.”

“Wanna help me with this one puzzle?” Sunny took her phone out and started to play 7 Words. Ellie took her phone and started to fiddle with it. “Are you using Google? Seriously?”

“Why not?” Ellie stuck her tongue out, “I’m just checking if I’m right, haha!”

“Dude, we’re next!” Sunny tapped the other girl’s back.

“Oh shit!” Both got ready to order as they saw another girl finish her order. They stiffened and waddled to the counter.

“What do you ladies want?” The barista asked them both, sunken-eyed and low-voiced.

“Ummm,” Ellie stammered, “I’ll have a grande java chip frappe…” She started to fumble for her debit card. She then felt Sunny push forward, holding out a credit card.

“Make that two,” Sunny added, “I’ll cover for the both of us.” The barista acknowledged them and started on their order after taking Sunny’s credit card. The girls then huddled at the pickup counter.

“You didn’t have to do that, but thanks,” Ellie stammered more. She felt hot on her cheeks but it wasn’t the crowd talking.

“Hey, I want us to start on a good foundation,” Sunny patted her back, “I’m sure we’re gonna do nicer things in the future.”

“I hope so…”

“TWO GRANDE JAVA CHIP FRAPPES FOR SUNNY!”

“Find us a table, please,” Sunny asked, “That’s ours.” She grabbed the drinks.

Ellie and Sunny were settled in a table near the window. They were both looking below at the center atrium of the campus.

“So what’s your family like?” Sunny began.

“Well, we’re all busy people,” Ellie answered, “My parents are administrators at a bank and my older sister’s a nurse. I’m the youngest but I’ve made do with volunteering, Chemistry club, and working part-time.”

“Where do you work? I heard the laws were strict about age requirements and all that.”

“It’s under the table but I did waitressing, but boy my parents were disappointed,” Ellie said in a disappointed huff, “I had to quit for school.”

“Well at least it makes your application good. I don’t see the issue.”

“See? Also there’s money, since I earned some, they realized I can shoulder some of my own fees. It’s helpful since I’m not a local, since I flew from a few states over.”

“No wonder you were by yourself in your room on move-in day. It must be lonely,” Sunny put her hand on Ellie’s.

“It’s not bad, like I miss my family but I feel the space is good for me.” Ellie leaned in to drink her frappe. She pinched her straw, “So how’s your family? It must be a crowd to hear all that noise from your hyper brother.”

“We’re rather close. My dad’s a handyman and my mom is an illustrator. She used to be an art director but she had to step down when my little brother’s ADHD ramped up.”

“That explains a lot.”

“Yeah, he was much worse when we were younger. He got into a lot of fights before my mom found a therapist, tutor, and a break-dance teacher.”

“Oh shit!”

“He listened to my mom the most, and he’d never dare fight with her. Never a dull moment in the house, but I feel like I’m going to miss it staying here.”

“This is college, people say we branch out here.”

“True, I met some girls from other schools in my major.”

“And I think I can get used to this city.” Ellie squeezed Sunny’s hand, leaning back into her seat. Sunny giggled. “From the looks of you, I’m guessing the locals aren’t half bad.”

“I’m guessing your state isn’t half bad either looking at you.”

“Oh! I think I got something to spice things up!” Ellie perked up, pulling her hand back.

“Cards of Humanity?”

“Naw, that shit ran out the first hour the store opened.”

“Well what is it? The store isn’t all that fabulous.”

“It’s not a thing, but a question.”

“Ooooh, sock it to me!”

“Okay, what’s the worst thing you did in high school?” Both girls started to giggle then ponder the question, with the sunlight dancing on their clothes and illuminating their hair. Ellie tapped her fingers on the table. Sunny wringed her hands. Students wove past their table, refusing to use their inside voices over scheduling and classes. Ellie started staring into Sunny’s golden eyes, thinking about how fitting the name really was. How much her blonde hair blended with the sun to her giving personality even to the most annoying dorm neighbor. Her porcelain skin didn’t help matters, and Ellie felt the pressure of a hundred sets or eyes on her. The maroon-haired girl gave a rattling exhale and leaned into Sunny, beginning a particularly long whisper.

Sunny’s eyes widened as she felt Ellie’s cheek brush against hers. In a sea of ‘Oh my god’s’ and soft brutal giggling she began to realize how graceful Ellie truly was. Even though Ellie was brusque and had a darker sense of comedy, she was slim and always was able to navigate through the campus like an art form. Her straight red hair always glided behind her, even at the windiest and roughest of times. The blonde’s trail of thought stopped as Ellie moved back.

“Your turn,” Ellie smirked.

“Could he ever smell normally again?” Sunny asked in concern.

“Yeah, but on that day he could smell how well he taught.”

“Oh, haha,” Sunny leaned in, “I guess I have something.” The blonde took as much time as the maroon-haired one. Ellie’s eyes snapped wide open. By the time Sunny was done, Ellie’s jaw was on the table.

“Dude that’s some illegal shit!” Ellie laid herself deeper into the chair, “I thought you were a goody-two shoes but holy shit!”

“I only did it because my friend unfairly lost a scholarship. It’s probably one of the most useful things these,” pointing to her prominent bust, “have ever done. My shame is outweighed by the fact she has her scholarship back.”

“But hey, sisters over misters!” Ellie lifted up her hand for a high five. Sunny returned it.

Orientation Day 3, State Science University

Sunny and Ellie sat in the middle room of the main auditorium. Today was the most mentally heavy day of the week: Student Conduct. Even though the university had shed their religious titles and traditions, they still held fast to their values. The university ombudsman was droning about academic honesty and that if you even cheat once, it will weigh heavy on you.

“Here at State Science, we believe that cheating is the one of the worst crimes you can commit here! You not only hurt yourself, but you hurt others. We’re here to learn and we can’t learn if we cheat. Plagiarism puts you on academic probation, no more, no less,” The ombudsman pounded the podium, causing a sleepy Ellie to wake up.

“Shit!” Ellie pipped up from her seat, eyes darting everywhere. Sunny smiled, amused at her reactions.

“The way you react to things is so cute!” Sunny wiggled in her chair.

“Being woken up by an old geezer pounding the podium isn’t cute, Sunny!” Ellie whispered harshly, blushing.

“Neither is sitting through this speech,” Sunny stuck her tongue out. Both slowly started to lean towards each other.

Math 201: Calculus I, First Lecture

After everything has settled, Sunny had checked her map multiple times and asked multiple people if this was the right classroom. She sat down at the front of the hall, putting the swivel desk down and opening her tablet. The professor then came in and introduced himself, giving Sunny the relief she needed.

When someone like Sunny did well in trigonometry, the lecture flew by quickly, as she just looked attentively and barely wrote anything. People flocked out of the building, while she sat down, taking it all in.

‘…This is my life now,’ Sunny thought to herself, “Hard work and lectures. Ellie’s probably off somewhere in the Engineering Hall. Don’t think there’s time for that anymore.”

At the drop of a hat, Ellie swooped in and sat down next to Sunny.

“You’re taking this class too?” Sunny gasped, surprised and sinking into her chair.

“Yeah, it’s required for me too,” Ellie smiled, “At least it’s more bearable now you’re here.”

“Same here.”

“Oh, Sunny… There’s something I want to ask you.”

“What is it? If it’s for answers be prepared to be on probation.”

“Look, I got the grades too!” Ellie spat, indignant, “Look…”

“I’m looking.”

“Do… You want to go out with me? Like a date?” Ellie scratched her head, nervous.

“Yes!” Sunny jumped from her seat and gave a bear hug to Ellie.

Both women heartily laughed at the new development.
