Scribbliest sketch I ever did speedrun while listening to Violet Crazy (DPR Ian) on repeat
Context: Tim invites Kon to a gala as his plus one and is trying to teach him some rich people etiquette, which leads to Kon asking about dancing and Tim saying the young people don't really dance so much and Kon getting passionate about bringing that energy back to the ballroom (did he watch a period drama and get emotional about how intimate the dancing is? Yes he did.) and so Tim decides to teach him the few things he does know, but Kon quickly realises actually they are very close and this is a bit embarrassing, no wonder young people don't do this anymore. (And Tim doesn't really know much about dancing at all tbh but he's giving it his best shot for bestie! Fake it till you make it!) (You most certainly do not interlock fingers 🙄)
Hi I love the trope: a is pining and knows it, b is pining and has no idea 👍
Also might come back tomorrow and clean the tags up but they're so goofy to me

CYOA
You know what screw it, I wanted to finish chapter 59 today but I feel horrible and it's just not going to happen so for now you can have this completed scene under the cut with my great affection love love peace peace feel free to react as it'll make me happy etc. etc.
Private WhatsApp Chat Resumed: Friday 18th March, 2022, 07:57 Members: Lily Evans, James Potter
================================
James Potter: i think it's pretty amazing that you and beatrice know the exact date that you first met when you were two
Lily Evans: Lollllll Hello to you too
James Potter: although idk how sirius would react if we knew and i suggested celebrating that hello, also beautiful hello beautiful is what i meant to say
Lily Evans: Suave of you.
James Potter: i'm only just having my first coffee of the day, alright? give me five minutes and i'll be on my game
Lily Evans: I suppose I can allow you five minutes. We didn't always know, but my mum's been journaling every day for most of her life, so a few years back we did a little detective work and it turns out she'd written about my first day at Little Tots. We've done something for our anniversary every year since, but she's blown my gift out of the water this time around.
James Potter: why, what was your gift?
Lily Evans: I bought her a ladyship. She's Lady Beatrice Booth now. Officially. Incredibly it only costs £30 and you get a tiny plot of land in Cumbria with it. I gave the pack to her housemate to leave out today so she'll get a huge kick out of it when she gets home later.
James Potter: how ironic is it that you got her a ladyship and i was looking into getting her canonised earlier
Lily Evans: Lol why?
James Potter: because i really really really liked that video, evans
Lily Evans: I see. I see. I see. Not embarrassed about you having seen that AT ALL. Although I suppose I don't have a right to be embarrassed when I've seen all of your childhood photos, do I? It was probably about time that you saw some of mine.
James Potter: what would you have to be embarrassed about? you were an adorable child i loved watching you grow up on an instagram reel with, inexplicably, flo rida's musical accompaniment
Lily Evans: Lollllllllll I know that probably seems like a weird choice, but it was our go-to dance song when we were eighteen. And on that note, I was a very awkward teenager, as you've now seen.
James Potter: almost everyone on earth was an awkward teenager and the ones who weren't awkward peaked in their teens, so think of how they've suffered since then although i guess sirius is the exception anyway you say you were awkward, but fifteen year old me would have been DESPERATE for fifteen year old you's attention
Lily Evans: Oh, you say that now.
James Potter: no i would have been and i wouldn't have gotten it because as we've previously established i was a prick when i was fifteen so if i'd gone to school with you i still would have been a prick, but a prick who wanted your attention and did all manner of stupid things to get it i would have driven you mad
Lily Evans: Twenty-seven year old you wants my attention and I've not been driven mad over it once, to be fair.
James Potter: twenty-seven year old me has much improved with age and is more deserving of it you however have been a delight your whole life which i now have visual proof of hence i'll be calling your best mate saint lady beatrice from now on
Lily Evans: I wasn't a delight my whole life, I promise you. As a child I was a precocious little shit who thought she knew everything and couldn't be told otherwise. That's why I got into so many scrapes, doing stupid, dangerous things because I couldn't just listen to my mother when she told me "no, Lily, that's dangerous." I was like a working class Peppa Pig, honestly, no wonder my sister couldn't hack being around me half the time. So you're not the only one who has much improved with age. And fifteen year old me would have had a massive crush on fifteen year old you, BELIEVE me.
James Potter: oh really?
Lily Evans: Would I have let you know about it? Absolutely not. But it still would have been there.
James Potter: you mean like the crush you've had on me this whole time?
Lily Evans: I already have to get you back for some nonsense you pulled yesterday, Potter, so I'd advise you not to pile on and add this to the list.
James Potter: lollllllll
Lily Evans: I'm serious!
James Potter: oh i'm sure you are to which i say go on then do it
Lily Evans: I will do it.
James Potter: you go right ahead i can handle it
Lily Evans: You're being very cocky right now and while I can't pretend I don't like it, it'll also prove to be your downfall later.
James Potter: we'll see, we'll see
Lily Evans: We will see.
James Potter: whatever you need to tell yourself, sweetheart
Lily Evans: I think the fifteen year old you has taken over the controls in your head, mate.
James Potter: he probably has, yeah but what can i say he's really chuffed about your crush on me
Lily Evans: You mean the crush you've decided I have that I haven't confirmed?
James Potter: right, yeah, of course, clearly i'm the one in the wrong here still sleeping in my bed, are you?
Lily Evans: I have to go do a work thing now.
James Potter: oh, sure, that old excuse

i keep mistaking some of ur kidxelqua art for ur grian art so i have to stop and read the captions/tags every time 😭😭 is there a fundamental difference im missing that would make it any easier
Tumblr media Tumblr media
hi !!!!!!! no i understand it can be pretty confusing !! its pretty messy on my blog ahahah i'll try to explain them and their place in the AU
All the kid drawings are Xelqua ! Originally it was Grian, but as the character Xelqua developed, I changed it to him. When people send requests for kid Grian, i'm drawing Xelqua, as that is the AU.
This isn't 100% accurate as I forget to do it, but Grian and Xelqua part their hair differently, kid Xelqua does too. Xelqua's hair is always a bit longer. (Grian got a haircut when he joined the Watchers, thats why his hair parts different now in evoAU and HC, he just kept it shorter ! Xelqua used to wear his hair in a ponytail during his time with the Watchers.)
Tumblr media
The reason why i say they're "technically the same" is bc Xelqua is just another Grian from a different timeline, he just has a different name. Xelqua only exists because this one Grian joined the Watchers, new possibilités opened new timelines, ones where he died, ones where he's a Listener instead, or ran away to different servers, or stayed. Xelqua is the only one to have reached Sainthood.
Because of this, Xelqua can hop around timelines, he usually just bugs other versions of himself, helping them, giving them tnt. He finds This Grian during s8 of HC, bugging him through the boatem void, briefly possessing him later, but hey ! water under the bridge !
Xelqua's timeline doesn't exist anymore after becoming That, but by becoming That he has essentially rewritten history in other timelines, solidifying himself as a saint of destruction, a destroyer, this is what the Watchers know him as, this is what evo Grian knew him as, even if Grian caused it--It already happened--Xelqua has always been here. (It makes Grian's head hurts when Xelqua explains this to him.)
Basically: Grian set off a chain reaction when he joined the Watchers, and that opened new universes, and in doing that, Xelqua is made.
Xelqua is powerful, but also very lonely and has a lot wrong with him, which is expected he spent many years with the Watchers. Xelqua can mimic any version of Grian he wants, but if he stays in that form for too long, he'll start to forget himself and instead think "Xelqua" is a patron, rather than himself. This is why kid Xelqua will usually praise the Saint Xelqua and be proud of his own name, he just doesn't know ! It takes a little while to remember himself and change back. This also happens in high stress, (bc of course it does, i love when a character loses control of their powers hahaha,) the memory is much worse if it happens from stress. You can't talk kid Xelqua out of this, it'll stress him out further and you'll just have a little god child throwing a temper tantrum then, never a good idea.
Tumblr media
After s8 in HC EvoAU, Xelqua hangs around, popping up sometimes in s9, mostly in his adult watcher self. They don't get along too well at first, Xelqua has a little bit of bitterness over Grian having such a fun life, all these friends, needed, wanted..... But whatever ! Xisuma doesn't know how he keeps getting in, but Xelqua has been on good behaviour, so...... Shrug... Just let him visit sometimes....
Tumblr media
Xelqua's version of the Watchers are gone, the unfortunate conséquences of becoming a destroyer, you kinda rip your own timeline apart. This, added with the fact that he is a cautionary tale in every other reality to Watchers, means if he tries to visit other versions of his Watcher family, they won't really know who he is, and just see something destructive and chaotic. If he wants to see Aether, he'll just... hop in a timeline and change himself into a kid and quickly forget what he's done. He's lonely, ok !!
Xelqua starts doing this kid bit on HC (late s9/early s10) too, he doesn't exactly mean to, but he does feel safe there. He eats Grian's food and takes over his couch and no one can get mad at him bc he is just a little kid--grian puts him in the corner. timeout. a few dead birds hit the roof as a result.

Came from that post you have asking for Adam Warlock headcannons, so consider with me:
Him being the best at massages and always going to him after battles when your body is aching and him rubbing your shoulders and back until you fall asleep.
No one can quite relieve the pain like he can. Even if you’ve been taken care of in the med wing, the soreness doesn’t go away until you’re with him.
TLC
Adam Warlock x Reader
Plot: Adam is there to help you with recovery after missions.
Genre: PG-13 (One use of y/n)
A/N: Hello Nonie! What a lovely headcanon and I'm so sorry I only got to this now. I tried to bounce off your idea and make it into a short piece. If you read it, I hope you liked it!
Tumblr media
"Adam!"
The young girl runs into his room, hurtling towards him like a cannonball. Adam frowns, hearing the urgency in Phyla's voice.
"What is it?"
"It's y/n. She's-"
Before Phyla could finish her sentence, Adam bolts out of the room, racing down the stairs and towards the ship that had just docked from a mission. Phyla almost smacks into him face first as he abruptly comes to a stop seeing you lying across the table, groaning in pain. Adam is at your side, assessing for any serious injuries.
"You're not injured?"
You raised your eyebrows. "You want me to be?"
"No, sweetheart. I didn't mean that. Phyla told me-"
"I was going to tell you," the youngest interjects. "That she's fine but her back is feeling a little stiff from the ambush by the trogawogs. She sent me to get you to check if it's merely just a stiff back or if it's something else."
Despite your pain, you can't help but smile at the sight of Phyla's confused face and Adam's sheepish reaction.
"Thank you, Phyla. You can go now." You dismiss her and she leaves you and Adam.
"You do give solid massages." You break the silence. "Do you mind?"
"Oh yeah, of course."
Carefully, you prop yourself up. As his fingers press into your skin, you let out a sigh of relief. "Oh... that hits the spot. Could you move up a little? I think one of them may have gotten my shoulder. I just want to make sure it's ok."
Adam quietly gets to work as he expertly undoes the knots that formed in your back.
"You're a saint," you thanked him as he works his magic. "Whatever you want, just say the word. But it'll have to be within my means of course." You quickly add the last part, well aware that you were potentially making a deal with a god. He only chuckles and focuses his pressure on your upper back.
Once satisfied with his work, Adam takes out your pain relief patches that you bought from Earth, applying two of them just as you taught him the very first time. He's about to let you know that he's finished but sees your head drooping slightly.
Having off-world missions back to back wasn't easy and as the human on the team, it definitely took a toll on you compared to the others. Adam wished that you wouldn't take so many missions, but he also knew you were too stubborn and strong-headed to listen.
Lifting you under your back, Adam walks back to your quarters, careful not to wake you up. He makes sure that any other minor injuries are taken care of and finally tucks you to bed. You're out like a light, and into dreamland. He wants to stay a little longer but has his own mission to prepare for. Leaning down, he kisses your forehead.
"Whatever I want... I just want you to not get hurt. That's all I want."
As he takes one last look at your serene face, Adam switches off the light, making a mental promise to visit you when he gets back.

If you could say any song reminds you of Gilded Constellations… what would it be?
As a reader, I can’t put one on the whole thing so far, but Sirius reminds me of Guys Don’t Like Me (by It Boys!) and I can’t put one on Y/N yet… (Remus radiates Conan Grey energy tbh) -🫎

Read Gilded Constellations Here
AAAAAAH THIS IS SOOOO HARD! I literally have a miles long note on my phone with hundreds (kid you not) of songs for the chapters titles. Most of them are 60s to early 80s (because I’m a perfectionist and I want the songs so only be songs our boys would have listen to to), having said that. I’ve got a few modern songs, that I feel also fit the theme… heat me out:
Gilded Constellations is Cherry Wine by Hozier and Las Palabras de Amor by Queen
Don't touch me now Don't hold me now Don't break the spell, darling Now you are near Look in my eyes and speak to me The special promises I long to hear Las palabras de amor Let me hear the words of love Despacito, mi amor Love me slow and gently One foolish world, so many souls Senselessly hurled through The never ending cold And all for fear and all for greed Speak any tongue But for God's sake we need Las palabras de amor
Her eyes and words are so icy Oh but she burns Like rum on the fire Hot and fast and angry as she can be I walk my days on a wire It looks ugly, but it's clean Oh momma, don't fuss over me … Her fight and fury is fiery Oh but she loves Like sleep to the freezing Sweet and right and merciful I'm all but washed In the tide of her breathing And it's worth it, it's divine I have this some of the time The way she shows me I'm hers yours and she is mine Open hand or closed fist would be fine The bIood is rare and sweet as cherry wine
Sirius is Too Much Love Will KiII You by Queen
Too much love will kilI you If you can't make up your mind Torn between the lover and the love you leave behind You're headed for disaster 'cause you never read the signs Too much love will kiIl you every time Mmm, how would it be if you were standing in my shoes? Can't you see that it's impossible to choose No, there's no making sense of it Every way I go I'm bound to lose Oh-oh, yeah Too much love will kiII you Just as sure as none at all It'll drain the power that's in you Make you plead and scream and crawl And the pain will make you crazy You're the victim of your crime Too much love will kiIl you every time
Reader is Vega by Ed Sheeran
This week was heavy, I buckled under all the weight What can you do but pray? And count your blessings, it wasn't any other way Don't leave it up to fate … Clouds keep forming over this house, blocking out the sun I'm tryna keep it all together One door closes then one opens, gotta keep the focus If we'll believe, then she'll get better The days are long, but they pass within an instant, babe It is the strangest thing I'll count my blessings the day I see you smile again This war we've got to win Keep it inside, don't let no one see your heart No one can judge, we're the same in the dark Fighting the tide, but the waves, they will part Light up the night, we were made to be stars But it burns like hell to be Vega
Remus is Demons by Imagine Dragons (but also like 100 other songs Remus is all the songs)
When the days are cold And the cards all fold And the saints we see are all made of gold (Sirius) When your dreams all fail And the ones we hail Are the worst of all, and the bIood's run stale I wanna hide the truth I wanna shelter you But with the beast inside There's nowhere we can hide No matter what we breed We still are made of greed This is my kingdom come This is my kingdom come When you feel my heat, look into my eyes It's where my demons hide It's where my demons hide Don't get too close, it's dark inside It's where my demons hide It's where my demons hide At the curtain's call It's the last of all When the lights fade out, all the sinners crawl So they dug your grave And the masquerade Will come calling out at the mess you've made
And lastly, Chapter 20: Bad Moon Rising is Frozen Pines and The World Ender by Lord Huron
Deep into the night With the moonlight as my guide I go wander through the pines And make my way to nature's shrine
You'll hear me howl by the light of the moon That's how you'll know that I'm coming for you Gonna find you alone in the dark of night When the World Ender comes better run for your life

cyril x listener playlist but it's happy this time
organized all my cyril x listener songs into pre-ship and ship so here's some of the most fitting ones off the new one. pre-ship's been updated too (like, a lot) since originally posted
Nobody - Hozier
I've had no love like your love from nobody I'd be appalled if I saw you ever try to be a saint I wouldn't fall for someone I thought couldn't misbehave
If Only My Heart Could Speak - Cody Fry
I never dreamed that you Would feel the way I do I thought that I would know just what to say But suddenly my voice is feeling very weak If only my heart could speak
Against the Kitchen Floor - Will Wood (again)
It just don't come natural to me to think that you'd want me for me I swear, I'm really trying Oh, I'm sorry, I promise, I'm doing my best I just haven't learned how to be human as you are yet
It's Always Sunny With You - {Parentheses} (how the fuck do i pick just a bit from this song it's literally them)
And I've been waitin' for a pretty face To walk right through the door But now I found, you came in through the window
You're the person that I love to see Even when I don't want no company Somehow it's different 'cause it's you It's always sunny with you
Like Real People Do - Hozier
I will not ask you where you came from I will not ask and neither should you Honey, just put your sweet lips on my lips We should just kiss like real people do
Let Light Be Light - Lizzy McAlpine
I don't like getting attached It makes me feel like I've done something bad
So I'm letting him stay around I think that he's good for me This boy that I've found
The Only Exception - Lizzy McAlpine
And up until now, I had sworn To myself that I'm content with loneliness Because none of it was ever worth the risk
Well, you are the only exception
Ily - Harbour (also literally them. like, the entire song. it's them)
I'm swearing to myself that I'll never fall in love again
I don't know what else to say Can't say it another way, I love you And I don't know what else to do I never meant to fall for you, I still do love you
I can fight it, that's alright But it'll find me, if it wants to Can't deny it, it's always right Even if I believe that I don't want to love you
Smitten / Vulnerable - Leanna Firestone (LITERALLY CYRIL)
I'm helplessly and hopelessly smitten And usually, I'd be too scared to admit it But you make me the best kind of nervous Pretty sure you do that shit on purpose
Yeah, you've got me flustered and my cheeks are red And suddenly all that's in my head is air It's not fair That you get to steal my breath and all my courage When I see you, all my better judgement disappears But that's probably exactly what you wanted to hear

Hello please perceive my Azem OC
Okay thabk ye for looking at her I will now ramble abt her under the cut
So Lucifer's whole deal is that she inspired Emet Selch a lot as his senior. Like, his theatrical nature largely comes from her and so did quite a lot of his ideals. That is to say, we should be glad that Lucifer didn't survive the sundering bc uh... that would have been messy. I mean she'd be super unpredictable and she just generally has very off-putting vibes.
She's Emet Selch and Hythlodaeus' senior- not by a lot but enough that she still kind of sees them as kids/younger siblings lmao. She always used to kind of baby them... much to Emet Selch's chagrin lmao.
Anyways ON our dearest Emet Selch-
He puts her on an unrealistically high pedestal to kinda parallel how everyone holds impossibly high standards for WoL. See, the thing is, he probably shouldn't have put her up on such a high pedestal because she's highkey a sociopath. Yeah uh, he knows and elects to ignore it. Emet and Hyth both think they can fix her and yk what good for them but they look like a fuckin construction crew lol.
I'm only slightly exaggerating when I say that Emet got all of his problems from her. Like A LOT of his Solus persona comes from Lucifer. Like it's not healthy at all lmao. He is imitating her as a (fucked up) form of love and also to remember her. His love for theatrics and the arts? Lucifer. Fat fucking liar? Lucifer. Sadism? Lucifer. General apathy and/or detachment? LUCIFER. Seriously the degree to which he looks up to her you would think she was a SAINT. Something something, when someone dies you only try to remember the good things about them.
As for Hythlodaeus, at least he's aware that something is wrong with her and actually wants to help her. Emet kind of just bought into the persona she put up and while Hyth did to an extent as well, he tries to dig deeper.
Hyth has actually seen Lucifer be vulnerable, but only sort of. Honestly, Hyth is the therapist friend oftentimes to his own detriment. He gives that vibe to me. And about Lucifer being vulnerable; it's not exactly her unloading her sad baggage (bc you best believe she has it) but it's more of her being a little more honest about the fact that she just doesn't feel anyway about anything. She is very self aware about that whole thing but she also struggles with whether or not all of the stuff she says while putting up her act is genuine.
To an extent, Lucifer did genuinely care for those in her circle. She genuinely liked being around Hyth and Emet, and she genuinely respected Venat as her mother/teacher figure. It's just that she's never really honest with them, you know? Listen, Emet, Hyth, and Lucifer have been friends since they were teenagers but if you asked either of them any questions about her that go deeper than the surface you would get nothing. Lucifer on the other hand, despite her troubles with empathy and general emotions, is a little too good at recognizing what makes people tick. She is kind of a piece of shit in this regard because she will use that knowledge.
She uses this knowledge to gain favor with others, to get information, and even to preserve herself. Venat especially is really good at recognizing this and it's something they tried to work on when she took Lucifer under her wing. Key word tried bc you'd best believe when she deserted the Convocation during the Final Days she guilt tripped Emet to hell and back.
One other thing about her I want to highlight is that Venat, Hyth, and Emet are her moral compass. Not exactly in the "I love you and I will follow you" type way, but in the "oh okay you don't like it when I do this" type of way. She has no real concept of right or wrong nor cares much for the moral codes of others, she just kind of cares about how it makes her look and if it'll make her fit in.
Like, maybe she creates a concept and it's dangerous. She doesn't see a problem with it unless Hyth or Emet go "Hey girlypop, this is a little fucked up" and then she'll do a complete 180 and be like "oh haha yeah I guess it is" but she won't destroy the concept. Because why would she? A little personal project won't hurt anyone...
As you can probably tell by now, she is not the ideal person to be Azem. But of course, nobody actually knows what's going on in her noggin and by virtue of being very likable and appearing to enjoy helping other people (it's really just her trying to copy normal human behavior) to the average outsider. Does the Convocation think she's messed up? Yeah, they're not blind- but they think she's just depressed/despondent or something not that she's a high-functioning sociopath.
Now, given all of the above information, we should all be happy it was Emet Selch who survived the Sundering because Lucifer would be much worse. I think out of their little trio, Emet was actually the most merciful outcome because I also think Hyth has the capacity to be a terrifying villain. Dude just think about it; you could either have the sociopath, the one that attaches his entire identity to his friends (who would be dead in this scenario so where does that leave him) or the guys who's just a little grumpy. Shockingly enough, Emet is the most well adjusted one in this polycule. And that is saying a lot.
Lucifer would be worse than Emet because hey, at least Emet has something resembling a moral compass and only works to restore the status quo and get all his friends back. Lucifer? She'd do it for the hell of it. Everyone guiding her morals is fucking gone, what is she going to do? Without them, she has no idea what qualifies as right and wrong anymore. No she doesn't care about restoring the star or whatever she just wants her ego to be fed again. So she'll sort of go along with whatever the hell the Ascians are doing.
Anyways yeah that concludes this essay. In my next one I will go over her parallels with my WoL.

The scythe (and a 'brief' inclusion of the concept of 'difference'). I need this in a separate post, actually. Because Seele's scythe has always been a constant fascination of mine, not only because a scythe is an absolute kick-ass weapon, but because it really helps in setting her apart from the other members of Wildfire, and even those outside of it. Not that uniqueness is a power per say, but because all of this adds to the consistency of what they seem to want to represent with her: how being 'on your own' never really goes away. The concept of being 'unique', whether it's positive or negative, never really wavers from you as a person, it seems. And I think Seele personifies that reality from what we know of her early childhood and into her adulthood.
As an orphan with a relatively rambunctious attitude, she likely didn't endear herself to children of her age, and she caused enough ruckus for the adults to keep her at bay (Nat has the patience of a saint), and at the young age of ten, she canonically would find herself in the occasional fight with local thugs while patrolling with Oleg; she was not your usual kid.
Tumblr media
All of this to say, that she came from 'being different' and to remaining that exact same thing to this very day, and I think that her scythe is one of the most obvious things representative of that.fact. Seele stands out today, as she stood out when she was younger— granted she grew up in the Underworld, which already makes her part of this concept of 'other', or if you look at it from an Overworlder's perspective: 'lesser'. It's funny, because I think of what I just typed, the keeping people at arm's length— and I see how imposing her scythe is, and it still plays into achieving that. It'll either warrant fascination, or it'll scare people away with how dangerously dangerous it looks. Any way, I actually got massively sidetracked, so let me try to get back on point here.
In essence, while the scythe is unique in appearance, most certainly, it was/is likely a result of a very practical way of thinking, which ultimately got meshed in with a personal preference or even a 'cool factor' wish, if you will. So, just as I did for Kafka (with results I'll share soon, I just need to do some thinking), I had a watch and listen to Seele's ultimate animation to see if there was anything else to dissect from it that could potentially be tied to any sort of explanation for the scythe, and at 0:06 seconds in, you hear the sound of a gunshot quite clearly, which got me thinking the ever obvious question: why? It's a scythe, and she has no obvious ties to any sort of gun(s), so why is there the sound of a gunshot? So, I did some searching to see if any Redditor made mention of this as well, and low and behold, I found exactly that, and some of the commenters struck gold with their comments to the OP. Let me just quote each one for ease:
— Maybe canonically it was a Silvermane Guard rifle and Seele retooled it into a scythe. — Yeah, this was my thought.Bullets might have become scarce after the Underworld was sealed off, so she converted it into a melee weapon. — This would also explain why she has a scythedespite no agriculture in the underground: she made it herself (or had someone more technically minded make it for her) out of a variety of parts (...) — A scythe is also just a really big ice pick and what is the main motif of the enemies on the planet? That’s right, ice themed. Could be done so tohelp crack their armor (...) It'd probably be pretty good against robot armor, too.
Now, we know that the Underworld became absolutely starved of resources the longer it was sealed off, so it's not exactly like they all had parts ripe for the picking, and so had to make due with what they could find, and then fashion that into what was needed. Weapons with ammunition were likely the first to be let go of, for how could you use that which needed parts that couldn't be fashioned or obtained for the longest of time? But all of those arms couldn't just be thrown away, it'd be a waste for those who are already lacking that which is needed to defend themselves with. So why not refashion it in something that's of use to you in one way or another? Especially by someone who would know their way around arms and weaponry as a whole (as come to think of it, no, I don't see Seele fashioning something like that for herself, at least not from the ground up; maintaining and adding to it as time passes, perhaps, but not from the ground up, I doubt that's what she meant by 'handicraft' in those text messages). I do think an initial draw to the weapon like a scythe is because of how imposing it is, it's so difficult to wield effectively because many of its strengths also pose you with its limitations— and yet in that lies a challenge that I think a girl like Seele thrives for, and could actually achieve. She bears a monumental source of strength (not just specifically physically, but mentally) to have survived as she has until she was taken into the orphanage, it fits the endurance that she had to have possessed as of a young age to navigate the streets as she did after she obtained food in less then morally 'good' ways, and the agility that primarily ties in with the latter. She also fits the type of person who holds the mindset to be able to turn a scythe's psychological impact to her benefit, she holds that courage and fearlessness that you need for it; and she also definitely is cocky/arrogant enough for it. I actually, the more I think on it, the more I think that she truly is quite a great fit for it, actually, even if I think her impatience would likely have been her enemy while training with it. You need a hell of a lot of patience, and I think that would've been troublesome for some time, but I think Oleg, for example, would have been a great teacher for that.
Any way, I've been rambling for a day and a half, but what I mean to say is— as much as Seele once was 'different', she remains it to this day. The scythe is unique within the arsenal of Wildfire, and even Belobog, and yet it fits perfectly with her aesthetic and her person. Everything about Seele seems incredibly messy, and it is, but it's her mess that works exceedingly well for her. Seele's scythe seems to come from a disassembled weapon (that in all ways, was the opposite of what it's now become) that might still hold some semblance of function to this day; her attire is a combination of all kinds of things and fabrics that don't go together whatsoever and yet were fashioned into something of her own (we know that she does handicraft, which includes fixing up dolls, so she knows how to sew and likely knit). There's just— it plays into the visual (and personality-wise) consistency of her character very well, and I'm just, I'm just a fan. Don't mind me, I don't know if I actually touched enough on what I wanted to say, so I'll likely make a part 2 soon, but I just needed to get thoughts out.

CBS Ghosts - Hello! - The Game Has Begun!
Warning Spoilers May Appear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First question - how do they decide who does what when? Why Pete first? Did he introduce himself? Also, why not Isaac? Why not Trevor?
I'm surprised Pete's so gung-ho about this.
Like clearly Sam's struggling, and he's just like "I got the silent treatment all the time - so I got this."
Why, Pete? It's weird because he's TYPICALLY the one that's called 'a saint of a man' and 'the best of all of us' and 'the most pure and innocent', but he's literally helping to torture Sam here. It paints him in a shade of gray that I really like. Because there HAS to be a reason that he stayed as a ghost and honestly, he's the hardest one to figure out WHY he's staying. For everyone else it seems a little more certain. Although ... nah, I'll get to that later.
What's also interesting is what we learn in just two sentences.
He was married for 16 years. His marriage was bad - especially if he was used to the silent treatment. And he's gleeful about bothering Sam, who just wants to live her life.
Tumblr media
LMAO - Thor's contribution is to just yell "death to you" from a closet - wow, Thor. Wow. Maybe he figured that his curse would be enough?
BTW that would scared the crap out of me for sure. I'm terrified of things popping out at me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, let me get this straight. Jay knows what's going on and asks "is it getting better" and she says "no" and his SOLUTION is to go to sleep?
Jay, what the hell? "I'm sure it'll be better tomorrow - will it, Jay? Will it?"
You're not being helpful, Jay - you're lucky you're amazing otherwise.
Also, Alberta is STILL going on about her murder and this actually pretty funny considering. Do ya'll think that when she first died, she ran through her suspects with the other ghosts? Do you think she talked about it nonstop? Do you think she WANTS to be murdered PURELY because she was trying to deal with her death? I think so.
Wonder how Hetty felt about that.
No wonder the other ghosts are just like "ugh." They're just like over it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alberta, don't you sleep?
Also, imagine laying in bed, trying to sleep and just listening to this woman - the only one to introduce herself as far as we know - just gleefully talking about her murder and how she was cheating with some woman's man but that can't be the reason she was murdered because she didn't know so it doesn't count.
This makes me feel less bad about her boytoy cheating on her because she cheated, too. Of course, given her murderer... I do feel bad again.
On the other hand, I love how she's just like "it doesn't count" - lmao, Alberta. It still counts, I promise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay this is the STUFF OF NIGHTMARES.
I constantly freak out about finding someone suddenly in my room while I'm sleeping. Especially right when I wake up and especially when I've sleep paralysis and can't move. Anyway, you suck, Sass.
Screw the gasp, I would've started Screaming and I wouldn't have stopped.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, Sass. If you really think that this is 'scary', WHY are you doing it? And can you imagine waking up and not being able to go to the bathroom since he followed her in there for toothbrushing? Also, did Sam CHANGE in front of Sass? Or did she ask him to leave her alone for five minutes? I need to know.
Also, we learn about Sass here - he hates and thinks being a ghost for Eternity sucks. Which makes sense because it's been over 500 years (the flashback in his episode later on shows a 1513 date).
He also lives for some kind of entertainment. Hence telling Sam about the drama he creates. It's pretty funny actually and I kind of love it. Drama king!
And he's very aware. "I will take to my grave - which will never come - hence why I'm bothering you."
Sam just walks away.
Poor Sam - I'm surprised she doesn't insist on going to a hotel or something. I would.
Feel free to chat :)

The Ghosts have begun their game of getting Sam to pay attention to them.

im here to fulfill the random question request 🙏
1. care to spare a teensy Matt x Casey headcanon that we’ve never heard before?
2. if you were to write that sequel, what exactly would it center around? hypothetically of course! wouldn’t want you to give too much away 😉
(also i hope you’re doing well!! 🫶🏻)
Thank you so much 😊
Random questions are always, always appreciated of course but I really needed something to focus on while drawing is going badly 😅
A (not soo teensy) headcanon about Matt and Casey I haven't talked about yet:
Something Matt and Casey really missed on the spaceship was rain. Stilwater and London both get over 100 days of rain and it's one of those things you don't realise you miss until it's gone.
Like, yeah, OK, everyone time jumps to Earth. The Saints go to sunny beaches, they play in the snow, they walk in the autumn breeze. So yes, they do end up out in the rain at times. But something is missing. It's that feeling when you're just laying in bed and the rain is beating down hard on the windows.
Ragnarok, however has a lot of lush forests, and while the exact process is unclear, it's hypothesised that forested regions generate more water vapour meaning more rainfall. So I think it's fair to say that the new planet sees a reasonable amount of rain.
In Matt and Casey's first house on their new planet, they would hear the rain on the windows and it was such a comfort. Missed, atmospheric, nostalgic. It sounded the nicest on the skylight above their dining table though.
So by the time two of three devastating alien attacks had occured, and they were building their new and most refined house, they put their bedroom on the top floor with four large roof windows. So when it's raining they can just cuddle up in bed at any time of day, and just listen to and watch the rain together.
About my sequel fic
So the plot of my sequel focuses on the third of the aforementioned alien attacks. The starting scene is the final scene of the penultimate chapter of the first fic, "An Introduction" (the bulk of that chapter focuses on Casey finally telling the remainder of the team her real name so that's the double meaning for that particular chapter) but from Matt's point of view.
This is a slight change in format; chapters will alternate between Matt and Casey's point of view throughout, with the beginning/end sections being told from various Saints' perspectives rather than the same person the chapter is told from as seen in Out Of Time. My working title is Out Of Focus.
This attack has a similar "attack them before they become important" theme as the first one, but in this both Casey and Matt are being targeted, as due to events in the first story, their names are pretty well-known throughout the universe.
The same "cannot encounter yourself" rules apply as well as Johnny not being able to travel back as it'll alert Zinyak, so the now pretty large team of Saints has to be divided between DC (Matt, Asha, Charlie, Ward, Riley, Jezebel), London (Casey, Shaundi, Pierce, Daniel, Charlie) and the ship (Kinzie, Johnny, Keith, Rhys, CID, Ben). These are just proposed teams and also I can't remember if I've remembered all the 2023 Saints but you get the picture 😅
Obviously as I am more of a romance writer than anything else, there is a focus on the fact FOUR couples are torn apart by this situation, and what is/was going on in their relationships prior to this. Matt and Casey are dealing with fertility issues, Pierce and Rhys are planning their wedding, Charlie and Ward are having some problems and this is practically a trial separation for them, and Kinzie and Riley will maybe find this brings them closer (I've not quite established where they are relationship wise which is why this is vague). I'm not opposed to some Shasha coming into play somewhere too... y'know I had Johnny make a joke about them in the last fic but now I'm actually thinking about it...?
Anyway there's a lot of things at play where Matt and Casey can't tell each others past selves they're together in case it prevents their relationship playing out as it does. I won't spoil all the subplots but yeah, I have a lot of thoughts. A vague overall idea. Much like the first one, I imagine I'll be in the mood to write one day and it'll just happen.

hiiii bestie !!! i saw you had a tonne of fics on ao3 and wanted to know if you had any recs for new fans og afl??? any works of your or any other peeps to check out?? thxxxx
hi bestie!!! (I don't know this person)
This is a hard question because there's so much out there - probably not much on AO3 (unless you like Alex Fasolo and then you're in luck) and then Wattpad is just an insane mix of literally everything, mostly footballer x fake sister fics (which I, myself, am guilty of, and I'm sorry)
oh, also I only really read Saving Lotte Sullivan on Wattpad which I reckon is really good but I could be bias.
Maybe I'll just make a list of AO3 fics for each club (and yes, for the dogs, it'll be anything written by AFL whores about bailey smith) and a lot of this is just tooting my horn, I am sorry.
Adelaide
Tyler Brown adjusting to adelaide life
Brisbane
Take me home country roads part 1 and part 2 (obviously)
Carlton
Okay so the best year Carlton had was in 2019 so anything from 2019
Collingwood
literally anything with Trent Bianco and Jack Ginnivan (Collingwood power couple) or Darcy Moore x Charlie James Dean
Essendon
idk if there's much Essendon fics out there so this one? i mean who likes essendon anyway? ew.
Fremantle
I can't remember what year but maybe it was 2021 when 2 guys 1 cup read out Cunfe (Cunnington x Fyfe) fanfiction on the podcast so yeah find those episodes. (The fics were all family friendly and G-rated, don't worry, you can listen to them with kids in the car)
Geelong
Has to be this one
GWS
hard to pick my favourite jesse hogan one
Gold coast
what about Matt Rowell getting mentally scarred before a game. I'm so sorry.
Hawks
either Tom Phillips starting a podcast, or Tom discussing the four P's
Melbourne
probably anything with Ed Langdon or pie boy
Norf
see Freo
Port Adelaide
Bailey Smith ripping through the entire Port Adelaide team OR those lousy five chapters I tried to write about Jack Watts
Tigs
the resurrection of Matthew Richardson (hurts a little to remember writing this after what they did to me last week)
Saints
can I say my multi chapter newsreader fic even though Rob plays for Melbourne in it and not his beloved saints. Or when Ben sits down with his accountant Callum Wilkie
Swans
probably best to go to AFL whores for this one
Weagles
who even writes Weagle fics
Dogs
anything from AFL Whores regarding Bailey Smith

Stay Golden Sunday: Rose's Big Adventure
Rose attempts to convince her newly retired boyfriend to do something fun. The Girls try to convert their garage into a guest room.
Tumblr media
Picture It...
Dorothy, Blanche and Sophia storm into their garage, which is a mess of construction materials -- they're trying to get it converted into a guest bedroom for their visiting family. Their contractor is slacking and the work is taking weeks longer than it should have. In the living room, they run into Rose, sitting on the couch with her boyfriend Al. They're toasting his retirement, as he just sold his deli business and is looking forward to the next steps. After he leaves, Rose says she might be falling for Al.
SOPHIA: I haven't seen a crime like this in a garage since the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre. DOROTHY: Ma, you did not see the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre. SOPHIA: Oh yeah, right. I was at the movies that day. All day.
Contractor Ernie, goes to leave and Dorothy fires him. Now they need to find someone else to finish the garage. Later, Dorothy and Blanche have gone through every contractor in the phone book, all of whom have given them high estimates for the garage job. Rose enters, dejected. Since his retirement, Al has done nothing during their dates except sit around and watch TV. Dorothy encourages her to talk to him about his funk.
Sophia enters and excitedly says she's found someone to fix the garage. They follow her into the garage and she introduces an elderly Italian man in a wheelchair, Vincenzo, formerly a famous architect. While he can't do the work himself, he'll tell Sophia, she'll translate and the other Girls will do the work. He also says he'll do it for free, so they agree to give a try.
SOPHIA: He says he'll do it for nothing. He likes getting away from the center. He also likes working, and most of all, he likes being in the company of pretty young girls. DOROTHY: *they're all flattered* Well, since he puts it that way, how can we refuse? It's a deal! SOPHIA: Good! *hands Dorothy a slip of paper* Here's a list of the pretty young girls he wants you to get for him.
At night, Rose is dressed up waiting for a date with Al. But when he arrives, all he wants to do is sit on the couch and watch an episode of Moonlighting. Rose finally tells him she's not satisfied with his new lethargy, given how energetic he used to be. She tells him that since he has the time now, he should do what he's always dreamed of. Al, believing she's bored with him, takes his leave.
Later, Blanche, Rose and Dorothy listen as Vincenzo begins giving out rapid instructions in Italian. Sophia tries to translate, but even in English the Girls don't understand anything he's telling them to do. Realizing it's not going to work, Vincenzo offers to bring in his own crew to finish the job at no additional cost. Al suddenly arrives and tells Rose he's considered her words and he agrees he needs to do something. He wants to fulfill a lifelong dream of sailing around the world -- a plan he's put in motion by buying a boat and hiring a crew.
SOPHIA: *translating Vincenzo's lengthy Italian spiel* Drill a toggle bolt, anchor with a 5/16th bit, and miter-cut the quarter-inch plywood after you attach the studs. BLANCHE: *beat* Only thing I recognized in there was studs.
The kicker? He wants Rose to come with him. Rose is so shocked she's awake at 2 a.m. making sverhoueven crispies. The Girls eat the tasty-but-foul-smelling treats together, though it doesn't make Rose feel better. Rose confesses that she's afraid she pushed Al too far, but the other Girls assure her it'll be good for him and Rose. She doesn't think she can accept as it's too impulsive.
The next day, several elderly men that comprise Vincenzo's crew are working on the garage as he gives orders. Rose arrives and says she's still stuck on what to do about Al. Sophia translates a remark from Vincenzo as a lengthy cautionary tale about regret over not taking risks. Rose, ecstatic, says she'll take the plunge and go sailing with Al. According to Sophia, Vincenzo actually told them all to get out because they're distracting his crew.
BLANCHE: Ooh, I love champagne! DOROTHY: Me too! The only problem is after a few glasses, I'll kiss any man in sight. *she sips, there's a loud splash* SOMEONE: Man overboard!! BLANCHE: . . . that was just a coincidence, Dorothy.
The Girls later arrive at Al's ship, where Rose is excited to get underway. She finds him lingering by the side of the boat and happily prattles to him about how she loves him and is ready to go on a big adventure with him. Al, on the other hand, tells her he's going to puke -- he's seasick already and the ship hasn't even left harbor yet. So there'll be no sailing around the world for either of them. Rose, while disappointed, comforts him and says they can try other adventures.
Sometime later, Rose says she and Al have another date planned. Sophia says Vincenzo is finished and wants to show them the garage. They run out and find the garage -- looks like a garage. Sophia asks Vincenzo what happened, and there was apparently a translation error. He offers to actually do the remodeling, but they refuse and tell Sophia to thank Vincenzo. In another apparent mistranslation, Sophia accidentally offers him Dorothy's hand in marriage.
SOPHIA: Well, at least he's Italian! *she leaves, and the other Girls run out of the garage with Vincenzo hobbling after, half-out of his wheelchair*
"Blanche, you'll do the screwing -- and he came up with that one on his own, I swear."
How ironic (and slightly melancholy) that an episode titled "Rose's Big Adventure" ends with Rose not going on a big adventure of any description. I'm not sure what it says about Rose's taste that she keeps getting with these men who can't fulfill her expectations, but in this case I can't help but wonder if she's putting a little too much on Al. Still, it's hard to fault an episode with as many memorable scenes as this one has.
VINCENZO: Io, e solo io, sono in controllo. SOPHIA: "I am in charge." VINCENZO: Il sono el padrone. SOPHIA: "I am the boss." VINCENZO: Il sono el maestro. SOPHIA: "I am the master." VINCENZO: Il sono la ballena. SOPHIA: "I am the walrus." DOROTHY: Ma, either your Italian is rusty or he's the world's oldest hippie.
I actually kind of feel for Al at the end of this episode. While his decision to blow his entire life savings on a boat and crew is a little . . . hasty -- seriously, Rose even suggested just hopping on a cruise ship, which would probably have been cheaper -- he seems to do so because his girlfriend suggested he was too lethargic for her following his retirement. I do agree that one should not slip fully into potatohood because one has retired, but damn it, at least give the man who's run a deli for decades and who admits he's always dreamed of retiring a chance to stop and catch his breath.
That being said, I also see where Rose is coming from. Al's malaise doesn't just affect him when he makes date plans and then cancels just to lounge on Rose's couch and watch an episode of Moonlighting. He then swings hard in the other direction when she suggests he maybe get off his duff by doing something so financially ruinous that I can't help but wonder whether he's going to have to unretire himself after that nonsense. Was there seriously nothing between the two extremes? Not even getting their picture taken with Goofy at Disneyland?
BLANCHE: Well it seems to me we have two choices. One, we can beg Ernie's forgiveness. Or two, we can find another contractor. SOPHIA: Or three, the Sicilian method: Torch the garage, collect the insurance, and build a summer house with a view of the ocean. Personally, I like number three.
The B-plot this time has a lot more going on. The Girls are trying to convert their garage into a guest room as they have lots of family visiting (seems like a booking at a Best Western would be more cost-effective, but what do I know). When the first contractor, who screws them over on purpose, walks out, they end up hiring a friend of Sophia's who screws them over by accident. The Girls just can't catch a break, can they? Their attempts to do it themselves only last for one scene, unlike Dorothy and Rose's successful attempt to install a toilet.
Given that his role in the plot is to attempt to build the Girls a guest room -- and to obfuscate said task by not speaking a word of English -- Vincenzo doesn't have much in the way of characterization unless you count being, in Sophia's words, a "wrinkled old pervert." Where Sophia found an elderly Italian architect in Miami, I have no idea, but at least it makes the trope of "miscommunication as conflict" a bit more understandable. I'm a little confused that Dorothy wasn't able to understand Vincenzo -- perhaps she isn't fluent anymore, but Italian should be at least her second language, no?
ROSE: I'm gonna have to sleep on it. SOPHIA: "Sleep on it." Men, sex, all I do is listen to your sexual problems. How about my sexual problems? DOROTHY: Ma, what is your sexual problem? SOPHIA: I don't get any! And I read in a magazine where a woman is at her sexual peak at 83. BLANCHE: Sophia, I read that same article, honey. It was 33. SOPHIA: Really . . . then all those feelings I've been having lately must be colitis. Sorry I interrupted! Good night!
While they don't necessarily hang together very well, the individual scenes of the episode are definitely memorable. Vincenzo instructing the Girls to no effect, Sophia telling the story of an architect who regrets choosing safety over history in WW2, and of course Rose's Sperhoeven Krispies, the ancient Scandinavian midnight snack. It's that last one that's always intrigued me -- I've never wanted to taste a nonexistent food so much as I do these horrible-smelling but fantastic-tasting sweets.
Episode rating: 🍰🍰🍰 (three cheesecake slices out of five)
Favorite part of the episode
The Girls nom some smelly treats, and Sophia comes in with the perfect punchline.

loving hand
request by anon: wait i just saw you don't mind if we send more in than 1 so... 👀 i couldn't really choose between the prompts so here i am again requesting jesper fahey x reader with prompt 4 and romantically if thats alright :)
Summary: Y/N is the worst when it comes to being injured and needing bed rest. Luckily, Jesper just finds her adorable.
Tumblr media
"Lock the door, I dare you, I'll just climb out the window and pull an Inej."
"I'll tie you down to the bed."
"Jesper, please, let's keep what we do at night out of this."
"Yes, sorry. Look, Y/N, please just lie down."
Y/N groaned but reluctantly slumped down in her bed, sulking like a child. "I hate this. I feel so..."
"Cute?"
"Stupid!" Y/N exclaimed, throwing her hands up. "I just want to do something - don't even think about," Y/N cut in, pointing her finger at Jesper as she noticed the glint in his eyes.
"I wasn't going to say it," Jesper said, ever so slightly sheepishly. "I only thought it."
Y/N rolled her eyes at him. "Oh, please, we both know that you would have said it."
"Yeah, alright, I would have," Jesper admitted, nodding.
It'd been three days since Y/N had heroically saved Kaz from having his brains shot out by a sharpshooter. She'd taken a bullet to her right side and had given herself a concussion from the force at which she'd tackled Kaz to the ground, but she was still alive.
Inej had worked her magic and stitched the wound shut promising that there would be nothing but a small scar to add to Y/N's already fairly extensive collection.
Her injury wasn't fatal. But an injured Y/N didn't make for a happy Y/N. She hated being confined to one room, unable to do anything for herself. Luckily, Jesper was used to it.
He was the only one in their group who Y/N would listen to. He was also the only one who found Y/N's grumpiness and constant complaining adorable (Jesper really liked the way her nose scrunched when she got mad).
Jesper moved away from the door he was guarding and perched himself on the edge of the bed Y/N was lying in. He reached up and brushed back her hair, his fingers softly tracing her hairline as he tucked it behind her ear.
"No one is expecting you to magically heal in three days, love," Jesper said quietly, dropping his hand back to his side.
"I just wish I could do more than just lie here," Y/N muttered, rubbing her forehead. "Like, if I was on the third floor I could limp down to Kaz's office and help him with something."
Jesper smiled, fully understanding her urge to do something, anything, instead of just lying there like an invalid. Whenever he'd gotten injured, the waiting to heal had driven him mad. He needed to move, he needed to do something and being stuck in a bed was not conducive to that.
"Well... we could, maybe, try and get up there," Jesper said slowly, an idea forming.
"You are not carrying me, Jesper, I'm humiliated enough," Y/N said, wincing as shooting pains began coming from her injured side.
"No, no, I was thinking more along the lines of you trying the stairs and me hovering behind you in case you fall," Jesper replied, not wanting to make Y/N feel more useless than she already did. "It's two flights."
"It'll take us ages," Y/N replied, but Jesper could see the excitement at the prospect of leaving her room appear in her eyes.
"Well, I've not got anything to do tonight," Jesper said, winking. "And then I can carry you back down like your hero."
Y/N rolled her eyes. "Alright, wannabe Saint, calm down."
Y/N pulled aside the blankets covering her and slowly swung her legs over the side of the bed, wincing with every movement as the stitches in her side pulled against her skin.
"Take your time," Jesper said softly, holding a hand out to her.
Y/N inhaled sharply as she reached up and took Jesper's hand, using him as her crutch as she stood up. She swayed for a moment and Jesper's hand snaked around her waist, pulling her close to him.
"Alright?" Jesper asked, tilting his head to look at Y/N.
Y/N nodded, breathing in shakily as she tried to get a grip on her pain. "Yeah."
Jesper let go, taking a small step back to give Y/N the space to move. She took a shuffling step forward and then another. As she climbed up the stairs, she grimaced with pain and was breathing heavily but she kept going, determination on her face.
Jesper opened the door and slowly, they began walking down the corridor and to the stairs.
Y/N paused at the foot of the stairs and Jesper could see the conflict on her face.
"Here, lean on me."
"I am perfectly -"
"I know, but, please, just humour me."
Y/N took Jesper's arm and he tried not to worry at how much she was leaning on him.
"One step at a time, darling," Jesper said, waiting for her.
Y/N nodded and inhaled deeply, pressing her lips together tightly as she put a foot on the stairs and pushed herself up. She stood on the first step for a moment and then climbed up onto the second step.
Jesper took each and every step with Y/N, letting her use his arm for support every time she wobbled. He didn't rush her and he didn't tell her to give up - he just stood by her side.
By the time they got up to the third floor, Y/N's legs were shaking and she was covered in a thin sheen of sweat, breathing heavily.
"Want to sit down for a moment?" Jesper offered, gesturing to the broken chairs leaning against the wall.
Y/N replied by sitting down in one of the lesser broken chairs and wincing in pain as she leaned to the left, easing the strain on her right side.
"Thank you," Y/N said quietly, taking a deep breath at the end of her sentence.
"For what?" Jesper asked, frowning.
"For not flapping around me like a mother hen," Y/N replied, "and for letting me do things my way."
Jesper smiled, perching himself on the bannister, crossing his ankles. "It's fine," he said with a shrug.
Y/N looked up at him and returned his smile. She laughed suddenly. "I just remembered the time you shot yourself in the foot," she explained when Jesper gave her a questioning gaze. "And Kaz had to drag you back to the Slat."
"Ok, I didn't shoot myself in the foot," Jesper argued.
"Yes, you did, Jesper and it was hilarious," Y/N replied, still laughing. "At least I got injured being heroic."
"We're not comparing injuries."
"Yes, we are."
Jesper sighed and closed his eyes. "I do one embarrassing thing and I never live it down."
"It was hilarious."
"It hurt!"
"Hence why it was hilarious."

--------------
Seohyun woke up to her phone buzzing. She groaned and rubbed her eyes, checking who was calling. It was San. She declined the call to read the several text messages he had sent. It was something about how they were all going out for lunch and she was joining (funny how they'd stop asking now, just said it) and that she was... to go on a date with him later.
She texted back a simple OK and checked the time. It was already almost afternoon- she had slept in. After showering, she was brushing her teeth when she paused.
It was gonna be her first date with San.
"Ayyy~" she waved at her reflection, resuming. She wasn't one to make a big deal out of stuff, but she had to admit it was... a little bit exciting. And she couldn't say the same about San. He seemed like the type to take these things serious, like first dates. So she decided that she did not want to disappoint him and would put in a little bit effort.
Seohyun checked her wardrobe. She didn't have much 'cute' stuff. Her first priority was always comfort when she picked her clothes. And they were usually monochrome or dark colours. She didn't like wearing bright stuff. Her only mildly cute outfit was the green dress she'd worn the last time with Jiwoo.
She moved on way too early, Seohyun thought. There was no one to help her dress up now. Her mom...
Seohyun realized there was something. Her mother had given her some sort of a top for her birthday last year. She had buried it in the back of her closet because she had deemed it too 'fashionable' for her. Seohyun threw her clothes out to find it. Indeed, it was still there.
It was a purple blouse with lace around the neck and tiny pearls. She shrugged. She'd pair it with pants and ankle boots.
After dressing up and tying her hair in half a ponytail, she stood in front of the mirror. She looked presentable, if one ignored her still-puffy-from-sleeping face. She sighed and put on the only lip gloss she had. That could do. She smiled at her reflection once before grabbing her phone and leaving the house.
They were meeting at a new café that Yunho and Yeosang had been wanting to try on forever. Yeosang had assured them it had good reviews for their desserts too. They were all already there by the time Seohyun reached. She had spent a good minute admiring the exterior of the café while the boys laughed at her unaware self, watching her through the window.
Mingi waved at her once she was inside and they made space for her. After exchanging greetings, they decided they would order food first. They decided on ordering two of everything and sharing, and once they gave the order, they all looked at Seohyun.
"You look... like you actually made effort today," Hongjoong commented.
"What do you mean?" Seohyun asked, forgetting for a second.
"Hey, don't say that, or she'll never dress up again," San pouted, and Seohyun realized, looking down at her dress.
"Is it too much?" she asked, "I've actually, honestly, never made effort. So I need honest reviews."
"It's not too much, it's perfect," Seonghwa assured, "In fact, you could have done more, but since this is you, it's perfect."
"That sounds.... like a compliment and insult at the same time, thank you Seonghwa."
They laughed and Yeosang said, "Hongjoong's the fashionista. You should only ask him."
"Yes, yes, Seonghwa's right. You look good!"
"That's the only top I had," Seohyun sighed, looking at San who was staring at her with an adorable expression on his face. "The rest of my wardrobe, you've seen."
"I guess we're going shopping then after this. I hope you have the card on you that you liked to flex about so much," Hongjoong smirked.
"I do-"
"But we're going on our first date today-"
"WHAT?!"
Seohyun face-palmed. San had done it.
San looked at Seohyun for help and she sighed. "Well, no need to over-react, Wooyoung. As you all know, San and I are... sort of, uh... dating?"
Yunho snickered first before everyone started laughing at how awkward Seohyun suddenly got, and it was her turn to look at San for help. It wasn't everyday she lost her demeanor. Falling in love did make one a different person, she realized.
"Yeah, so you're sort of dating?" Jongho wiggled his eyebrows.
"Yes, Jongho, we're DATING." Seohyun said, "And San was planning to take me on our first date after this."
"You haven't been on your first date yet?" Wooyoung asked, "But it's been days now that you've been together! Sannie, you disappoint me!"
Before San could choke Wooyoung, Seohyun interrupted, "It was me. I was busy dealing with ghosts. It turns out Jiwoo had actually been a saint. Did anyone of you know that she used to do half my jobs?"
Everyone fell silent as they listened, "She was never 'bored' of coming to school with me. She just had so much time to kill that she'd help ghosts instead of me. I kind of miss her more now."
"That's sweet," Mingi said, "She really was a great friend."
"I know right! Anyways, this is the reason we haven't had our first date yet."
Other than San, the boys shared looks, and Seohyun saw with dread the devilish smirks appear on their faces as they announced: "Too bad! We're crashing your first date!"
San groaned and dramatically fell back in his chair while Seohyun gaped at them. "I-I'm speechless for once." Laughter filled the room as she said, "If that's what friends are for, I think I'm gonna change my mind..."
Before anyone could protest, food came and they started discussing Hongjoong's love for fashion and the various items he had reformed. Hongjoong assured her if she had a clothing item or something she would like to reform, he was the man.
"I do have this denim jacket that I'm too attached to," Seohyun thought about it, "Can you write something cool on the back of it?"
"Yes, just give me the jacket whenever you can. It'll take no more than two days, unless we have exams."
Seohyun looked at Seonghwa for confirmation and he nodded. "He also makes custom bracelets for us."
"Nice," Seohyun said, "I'd like some too," she wiggled her brows at Hongjoong, who laughed and nodded.
"So what were you gonna do on your first date?" Wooyoung and Jongho leaned in and asked Seohyun.
"San was the one in charge, ask him," she said.
"I was thinking we'd just walk aimlessly around the city..."
They both tsk-ed at San, muttering something about how he was an 'amateur' and would probably bore me to death.
"Hey, that's a nice idea actually. I don't mind."
"You're just saying that to be nice," Jongho said and Seohyun folded her arms.
"I don't say things to be nice, Choi Jongho."
Everyone hooted at that, having heard her, and Seohyun stared at her drink intensely, contemplating if she should 'accidentally' spill it on everyone.
"But she's right, actually," Yeosang said, "She doesn't say things to be nice. If she didn't like that idea, I'm sure she would have said to San with a hidden insult in between. I'm right, aren't I?"
"Thank you, Yeosang," Seohyun said, "I love you."
Yeosang saluted and San pouted, "Hey! You haven't even said that to me yet!"
Everyone was silent for a good minute before they burst out laughing, including Seohyun. San's pout went bigger and Seohyun poked him.
"Ayyy. I say that everyday, just not in words."
"OHHHH!" Everyone hooted and San actually smiled, trying to hide a blush but failing.
"How do you say it then?" Mingi asked, wiggling his brows, and Yunho made kissing sounds in the air, earning a smack from Wooyoung who was right beside him.
"Next time I encounter a dangerous ghost, I'm actually gonna befriend them," Seohyun said, smashing her now empty glass on the table as she glared at them, "I have a few ideas of how to make you all suffer."
Yunho snickered and Mingi immediately bowed, muttering praises about how Seohyun was the most kind girl he'd ever met. It was Seohyun's turn to smirk.
After they were done eating, everyone got up and they decided to go to the mall. It seemed like Hongjoong was bent on getting her good dresses, and he whispered to her that she should wear them on her dates, which actually made Seohyun flush for a good second.
"Hi," San said, holding her hand in his. He was walking with her now, both at the end while the others were ahead.
"Hey," Seohyun smiled, squeezing his hand subconsciously as she continued walking forward.
"Did you know purple is my favourite colour? I love this on you," San said, and Seohyun smiled.
"I did not. You'll have to thank my mom for this," Seohyun said, "She got me this for my birthday last year,"
"Oh, when's your birthday?"
"21st December."
"Right. So we have about two months. Is there something you want?"
"I wish my mom would be home actually," Seohyun said, "The last birthday I had with her was my 14th. I actually had fun then. Mom's friends had come, there's one that I'm close with. We had a banger then."
"That sounds fun," San smiled.
"It was," Seohyun smiled wistfully, "Now she's always busy during that time. So she just sends me a gift and a cake. And I spend my birthday alone."
San felt quite sad to hear that. "You won't be alone this year, I promise."
Seohyun looked at him. He had said that with such clarity that she believed him.
"I have a feeling that won't be the case," she suddenly said, and San almost stopped.
"What do you mean?"
"It's my gut. It's always right. I suppose it comes with the ghost thing. I just suddenly felt that wasn't going to be the case when you said that."
San put his arm around her, "You probably felt that because you've spent most of your birthdays alone. But now you have us, and there's always a chance your mom could come too. I can assure you, you won't be alone this year."
"Maybe," Seohyun let herself hope, pushing the feeling of dread back.
They reached the mall and Seohyun watched as Hongjoong and Wooyoung took the lead, discussing what would go well with her hair and skin colour, stuff that Seohyun didn't quite understand. She was too busy rejecting the ones Yunho, Mingi and Jongho were picking for her, making sure they got bright yellows and neon shades just to annoy her. They were having quite a laugh.
Seonghwa, Yeosang and San had disappeared to another shop it seemed. Wooyoung threw a top at her, ordering her to hold on herself so they could check.
"This has too many beads," Seohyun muttered.
"There are literally only 6 beads on it, stop being a child," Wooyoung said, snatching the top back from her and she pouted as they put it in the cart.
Hongjoong held another top, checking its size.
"Isn't that too short?" Seohyun asked.
"It's a crop top, Seohyun, of course it is short."
"That's basically the size of a bra! How am I supposed to wear it?!"
Hongjoong and Wooyoung tsk-ed at her. "It's not, it comes to your waist. Wear it with high waisted pants and a jacket if you can," Hongjoong threw it in the cart.
Seohyun threw her hands in the air as she looked back, the trio laughing at her misery. They were clearly enjoying. A thought struck Seohyun. She went to the three of them and asked if she should buy something for San.
"I guess he could use a new jacket," Yunho looked at Jongho and he nodded, "He's been using the same two jackets since forever."
"Help me pick," she said and dragged them to the men's section, and they picked a black denim jacket, putting it with her clothes so San wouldn't be suspicious.
After about 15 minutes, they were all done, and San, Yeosang and Seonghwa joined them as well.
"Where were you all?" Seohyun eyes them suspiciously.
"Just looking around," Seonghwa nodded, and San scratched his neck.
After they all got ice cream as refreshment, they decided to part ways, and Seohyun thanked Hongjoong and Wooyoung sincerely, saying she'd use them well.
"I'll get you both something too. Tell me what you want."
"You don't have to, just wear them, that'd be a gift," Wooyoung laughed.
"No, I can't! You guys put so much effort. I'll get you both something, just you wait," Seohyun promised.
San and her decided to walk back home, carrying the shopping bags with them.
"This is not how I had imagined our first date would go," San admitted.
"I had fun still," Seohyun smiled, "And anyway, the day is not over yet."
"It is! It's 7pm already!"
"Well, what do you say I take you on an adventure after we drop these at home?" Seohyun wiggled her eyebrows, saying, "Unless you have to go home."
"Well, no one's home today so..." San smiled, giving her a quick kiss on the cheek. "Alright, I'll follow you."
Seohyun smiled, skipping as she walked, making San laugh out loud.
---------------
San and Seohyun reached home, dumping the several shopping bags in the living room. They decided to eat dinner and rest a bit, and Seohyun said she'd take him somewhere, but it had to be a surprise.
After they got fresh, they had ramyeon and Seohyun fished out a jacket from her wardrobe. It was gonna be chilly. She went to the living room, searching for San's jacket and went to San.
"Try this on," she said, and San got up from the sofa, trying the black jacket on. "Where we're going, it's gonna be a bit chilly."
"Wow, it fits perfectly," Seohyun stood back to check. "It's a gift."
"Really?" San looked down at the jacket. "Did you get this today?" Seohyun nodded. San smiled, thanking her with a hug.
They locked the house, grabbing only a bag with water bottle and chocolates. They took a taxi, a 30 minute drive to a hill. Seohyun told San she knew a shortcut to get to the top, and indeed, after a short hike, they reached the top.
"The view is amazing," San said, admiring how the full moon lit the night sky, the stars in the sky bright too. The city lights down seemed like stars too.
"A few months ago, a ghost teleported me here. He had died of an accident somewhere around here, and wanted help finding his sister, who had passed away with him. Jiwoo was with me, thankfully. It took us the whole day but we found her."
"Wow, I'm glad Jiwoo was with you," San said, and they both sat on the grass, facing the moon. "Imagine if you were alone and had to go back."
"Oh, I'm not sure if they even moved on. They said they wanted to spend some time together before they moved on, since they weren't sure what life ahead had for them. They might still be enjoying the ghost life."
"Really? Isn't that... dangerous?"
"They did promise. I said I'd come back after a year, and if they hadn't moved on by then, I'd personally exorcise them."
San laughed. "That's kind of you."
Seohyun winked at him. San was looking at the stars, and she took that time to admire his side-profile. He really was a work of art.
"Byeol," San said.
"What?"
"I'm naming our cat Byeol. Now that's an acceptable name, isn't it?"
Seohyun stared at him. "I mean, I was okay with Shiber too..."
"HEY!" San tackled her, tickling her everywhere and Seohyun laughed loudly, "Do you know how much time I spent thinking of a name for the cat!"
"Stop!" Seohyun laughed, and San stopped tickling to hear her out. "I love it. Byeol. Shiber. Whatever you wanna call her."
San shook his head at her. Seohyun realized he was still on top of her. San was staring at her, rather intensely.
San touched her hair. It was a habit of his now, playing with her hair. The grey in her hair was shining thanks to the moonlight. Her eyes shone just as brightly. Her mouth was slightly parted, and San ran his thumb across her lips.
"You're beautiful," he finally said.
Seohyun wanted to tell him that she was not, but she was too flustered to say anything. His broad shoulders blocked the moonlight, making his figure shine instead. He leaned in and kissed her softly, taking his dear time, making sure every peck was slow and good.
Seohyun's internal state was a mess at this time; her heart was beating too loudly, her stomach rolling too furiously, and her mind- oh it was an absolute mess. So she just let him kiss her senseless, her hands going through his hair and back to cup his face as they kissed.
San drew apart and Seohyun held onto his neck, making them sit, and San joined her forehead with his as they caught their breath. He rested her hands on her waist, and Seohyun gulped as she took his hands and put them on her waist under her shirt this time.
San inhaled sharply at the touch, looking at her for confirmation. He was always so patient with her, which she loved about him. Seohyun cupped his face and kissed him, more forcefully now. San followed along, his hands staying at her waist only, his thumb caressing her skin there. She kissed his neck, earning a satisfying moan from him.
"You're being naughty today," San whispered.
"You're being too good today," Seohyun retorted.
"Don't challenge me, Lee Seohyun," San warned, grinning.
"What you're gonna do, Choi San?"
San shook his head once, taking his hands away from her. Seohyun was going to protest but he took off his jacket and kissed Seohyun so hard that she found herself curving back and back until she was lying on the grass. He kissed her face, her neck, her collarbone, one hand on her waist, one roaming around, and Seohyun was a mess.
"What do you say? Do you regret this now?" San asked, smirking.
"Can't say I regret it," Seohyun answered, out of breath.
San laughed, kissing her one last time before lying down with her, holding her close.
Seohyun smiled. "This reminds me of the time when we first kissed," she said, "You were so sleepy."
"I was wide awake internally," San said, making her laugh a little. Seohyun traced his face with her fingers.
"I love you, San."
San's eyes went a little wide in surprise. Seohyun continued, "I know I haven't said it before. I don't know what I waited for. I'm sorry."
"Don't be," San brought her closer as if hugging her, "You didn't have to. I see it everyday."
Seohyun smiled, "Still. I have to say it out loud. I love you. I love you so much that it hurts. If I knew love would make me feel pain like this, this weird satisfying sort of pain in the heart, this ache, I would've run away. But I still love you."
"I feel the same," San said, sighing, "I feel scared for you, I'm afraid that you'll get hurt. You do such a dangerous job. I hope I could have been more help. I love you so much that I wish I'd have to do all this instead of you."
"You don't have to," Seohyun said, "This is enough. You, like this, is more than enough."
San couldn't help it; he kissed her again, and it felt like he could cry.
After a few moments, they finally got up. San wore his jacket, and said, "Oh, I almost forgot."
He took out a box from his pocket and handed it to Seohyun. Seohyun opened it to see a locket with a silver star, a single diamante shining in the middle of it.
"It's beautiful," Seohyun smiled, "Is that what you shopped for today?"
"Yep. Come here," San took the necklace from her and helped her wear it.
"Thank you. I'm never gonna take it off," Seohyun said and San laughed.
"Are you saying I should never take this jacket off too?"
"Well," Seohyun shrugged, "If you can manage."
They were laughing when Seohyun's smile suddenly fell from her face.
"There's someone behind me San," she whispered, not taking her eyes off him. "Don't look."
San almost looked away on impulse but Seohyun took his hand, grabbing his attention. "I said don't look. Smile like you were before, quick. Laugh."
San laughed awkwardly, making sure he was smiling. "Look from the corner of your eyes, can you see something?"
San did, and whispered, "I think I see something moving to your left, but it's a bit far I think."
"It's not good," Seohyun whispered, and San understood. "We're gonna have to make a run for it. On the count of three?"
San nodded, squeezing her hand.
"One. Two. Three."
San took her hand and made a dash, realizing that they couldn't go to the trail they'd come for since it was in the opposite direction. Seohyun took the lead, dragging San with her, trying to remember the other way. She looked back once and saw a sickly old woman almost caught up now. A little scream left her and they both ran, Seohyun stopping to grab a rock and aim at the woman. It narrowly missed her but distracted her long enough that they gained speed.
"Where's the other trail?" San shouted and Seohyun went through path after path, not bothering to reply. They were probably lost now.
Seohyun was about to give up and face the woman when a pair of hands grabbed her and she felt herself teleporting a few feet away from where they were, gaining more distance. She heard San gasp and looked to make sure he was okay, but hands grabbed her and she was running again.
"You!" Seohyun exclaimed. The boy and the girl- the brother and sister that had died here. She could not believe it.
"There's a cave here, we're teleporting again, grab on tight!"
Seohyun squeezed San's hand and shut her eyes. One moment she was running and the other she had jumped through time and space and was in the said cave.
"You call this a cave?" Seohyun asked. The boy ignored her, peeking out of the 'cave' as he covered the entrance with more tree branches.
San still held her hand, out of breath, taking out the bottles from Seohyun's bag and handing one to her while he drank some too.
"She lost us," The boy looked back and smiled proudly, high fiving his sister.
The boy must have been 16- he was a tall, lean kid. His short hair were spiky and his eyes were the same as his sister's- who must have been a year older. She looked at Seohyun and said, "Didn't expect to meet you like this, Seohyun."
Seohyun wiped her mouth. "Hi, Gayoung." She looked at the boy then, "Thanks, Youngjae."
"We owed you one," he said, motioning them to sit and take a breather. "We've been living here, so we kind of knew about the woman. She's an old soul, that one. I don't think you can do anything about her, best if you avoid her."
"Well, she should avoid me! Next time I'm gonna kill her-"
"I see you haven't changed," Gayoung grinned. "Who's that with you? And why is he not freaking out?"
"He's my boyfriend," Seohyun said, and Gayoung and Youngjae ooh-ed. "He knows. There was some accident, so he can see ghosts now too. Can't touch them."
"Interesting," Youngjae scanned San. "I didn't know we could teleport others too."
"Only because I was holding him. I guess because it was the two of you, it didn't require me to properly hold him. Remember Jiwoo? She tried it once. Took me to the ghost realm accidentally, with him!"
"With him!" Gayoung gasped, "Is that why he can...?"
"Yes!" Seohyun answered, "I almost died making that trip."
San elbowed Seohyun. "You call that dying?"
"Shut up. So you live here still?"
"Yes, we'll actually move on before the year completes," Youngjae said, "We're just waiting for our parent's wedding anniversary. We used to celebrate it, so we just wanna see them happy before we move on."
"Ah, that's good."
"Where's Jiwoo anyway?" Gayoung asked.
"She moved on," Seohyun sighed.
"So she finally remembered? Good for her!" Youngjae said and they nodded.
After catching up a few minutes, they decided it was safe to go back. Seohyun thanked them earnestly, saying she owed them one more now because this was too big a favour. They just dismissed it, telling her to stay safe. They guided them to another shortcut and soon the two of them were on the way home.
They stopped by at Seohyun's first, and San went inside with her for a moment, hugging her, telling her she was so brave for keeping her calm in that situation, telling her he was proud. With a kiss to her forehead, he left for home.
Seohyun washed up and fell on her bed, beyond exhausted. She recalled the day in her mind; it was a day well spent, if you ignored the last part. She smiled as she played the moments in her head; San was such a sweetheart today. She was playing with her necklace as she fell asleep.
----------------
The few days that followed their rather adventurous first date were as normal as they could get, keeping in mind the fact that it was Seohyun's life in question. She had a tremendous amount of school work to catch up to, and several ghosts to help move on.
Having friends actually helped, Seohyun realized one day as she was doing her homework. She was an average student; she'd do great if she tried, and if she didn't... well. So they'd help her with the subjects they were good at, they'd be her personal motivators, and she'd try to return the favours as well as she could.
She'd been thinking about how she could return the long due favour to Hongjoong and Wooyoung. They'd help her update her wardrobe, and the feedbacks she'd gotten were amazing. She supposed San was a softie and would compliment her even if she was in her worst hoodie, but when critics like Yeosang complimented her, she'd feel glad. She didn't really care about how she looked, but it felt good to dress up once in a while. Special occasions only.
Seohyun sighed as she shut her notebook close and got up, stretching. She found herself going to the music room. There were no drums anymore to relieve her of her stress, but she supposed she could do with something else. The violin reminded her of San as she picked it up, and she kind of missed him, so she put that down. She went to the piano, and inhaled. She'd be playing it for the first time now, after Joon Hyuk.
She tested the keys; it sounded out of tune. But she let her fingers naturally roll over them, found herself playing a familiar tune, the one Joon Hyuk had taught her. She smiled as she played. It had truly been a while.
After she was done, she nodded as she figured out what she'd get Hongjoong and Wooyoung. Something they really needed.
-----------
"You're the best!" Wooyoung tackled Seohyun in a tight hug, making Seohyun yell as she tried to push him away.
"How did you come up with this idea?" Hongjoong asked as he admired the speakers in front of him.
"I noticed you could use speakers here without disturbing anyone. And with how loud you all are, you definitely needed it."
Seonghwa connected the speakers to his phone, blasting full volume as he checked them, his mouth turning into an O as he nodded in admiration. "They must have cost you quite a bit?"
"Oh, it's okay. Let's forget about that part," Seohyun waved him off, and Yunho ruffled her hair.
Mingi passed her a juice box and she sipped on it, checking the time. "I have to go now. Mom's coming home tonight."
"Do you want me to walk you home?" San asked.
"Oh, don't bother, enjoy these speakers," Seohyun said, giving him a fist bump as she left. She hummed along as she walked, but she had only taken one turn when she thought she saw something out of the corner of her eye.
Another ghost? She had just dealt with one right after school, before joining the boys in the warehouse.
Something flashed right behind her and she whipped to her left, stumbling. She checked left and right but it seemed the ghost had disappeared. But something about its rotting scent was familiar-
Seohyun's breath left her as she was pushed, and she turned just in time so she'd hit the wall with the side of her body instead of face first. She winced in pain, pushing the hair out of her eyes. There was no one there.
But she didn't have to check who it was. The scent had been enough for her.
Seohyun contemplated running home or back to the warehouse. Ghosts couldn't enter property without the owner or mediator's permission, and since the warehouse was the closest, she decided she'd make a run for it.
She smelt it as she run, dodging one attack but getting scratched on the back near her shoulder with something sharp- she assumed it was nails. Seohyun ran faster; glad for all the running she'd done as a kid, wishing a good soul would appear and help her. But it was only her- a useless mediator with the power to only see and touch the ghosts, against a vengeful spirit.
Seohyun turned and she was in front of the warehouse. She could hear the music blast and she ran even faster if she could, until she came within what she assumed was the boundary of the property. She turned and indeed, she saw the woman, this time in the clear of the day. She wasn't sure if she could even call it a woman at this point; it was a tangle of overgrown hair, pale skin and dark eyes with purple lips. And long, long nails.
Seohyun shook her head as it disappeared and she stood in the middle of the road, contemplating once again if she should go home and risk encountering them again, or going to the warehouse, and encountering THEM.
She threw her hands in the air in frustration and went inside the warehouse.
"Oh, she's back-" Jongho paused mid-sentence as he saw the disheveled figure of Seohyun, with a bruise on her cheekbone.
Seohyun walked to them, looking at San whose eyes were wide. "It's her," she said, "the one from that hill."
San came to her, inspecting her face; the bruise was light, thankfully. "Are you hurt somewhere else?"
"On my back, I think," Seohyun turned her neck to see and indeed, her shirt was torn where those nails had scratched her. San took her to the sofa and Seonghwa brought a first aid kit, Seohyun eyeing it warily. "I should ask why you have a first aid kit."
"For a day like this, I suppose," Hongjoong said, handing her a glass of water. Seohyun looked at him once as she drank.
"How did she find you?" San asked, taking her hand and caressing it.
"It took her a while to find me, it's been more than two weeks."
"What happened?" Hongjoong asked and Seohyun explained, everyone sitting around her to hear her story.
"Why do ghosts start to look like that?" Yeosang asked.
"I don't exactly know, but time does that to them, I think."
"Don't they look scary?" Wooyoung asked.
"They look scary, but I think the fact that they were human once makes it less scarier to me?" Seohyun shrugged. She grabbed the ointment, applying it to the wound on her face. Then she looked at Seonghwa. "Is the wound on my back bad?"
Seonghwa peeked at what he could see from the torn part of her shirt, there were long cuts. "I think you should get them treated."
"Can you do something about it right now? I'll get them treated later," Seohyun said, biting her lip. Seonghwa nodded. He inspected her state, then said in a low voice, "You'll have to take off your shirt."
Seohyun groaned. At times like this, she really did miss Jiwoo.
"Or we can cut your shirt, since it's already torn," Seonghwa suggested, looking at her with a sad look in his eyes.
"I'll take it off," Seohyun said, "Let's not be awkward about this, okay? Which one of you is the best at first aid?"
"Seonghwa definitely," Mingi said.
"Should I do it?" San asked.
"You're the worst at it," Wooyoung muttered, making Seohyun scoff.
"It's just when it's someone I'm close to! I can't bear it!"
The two of them started to argue, and Seohyun decided to stop them. "I'd like you all to disappear to a corner while Seonghwa does his job. Give me some privacy. And San, you can stay if you want to."
The rest of the boys rushed away, and Seohyun bit her lip. "Not how you thought you'd see me without a shirt for the first time, eh San?"
Seonghwa went into a fit of coughs while San gaped at her statement, finally giving in after a few seconds and laughing, shaking his head. "You really pick the worst time for jokes."
"Alright, here goes," Seohyun turned her back to them and took off her shirt, San helping her hold her hair. She was left in a black bra. She wasn't flustered; not when the exposed wound left her skin stinging, and she sucked in her breath.
San helped her sit on the floor and she brought her arms to her chest, her hair covering the rest of her as Seonghwa carefully applied ointment on the three parallel scratches that ran from her shoulder all the way to the the middle of her back.
"She got you bad, Seohyun," San said worriedly, "what if she comes here?"
"She can't," Seohyun answered, "Can't enter property without owner or my permission."
"That's useful," Seonghwa muttered.
"That's actually handy, Seonghwa," Seohyun had noticed the sarcasm in his voice; she supposed he was angry at the whole situation. "I'm glad I was near when it happened." She rested her head on her knees, San watching Seonghwa apply bandages now, so careful with it. He was definitely being extra careful.
San went to get an extra shirt they had around for Seohyun, and Seonghwa finished up. Seohyun peeked at the bandages, impressed.
"Thanks, Seonghwa."
"Don't mention it," Seonghwa put the stuff back in the kit, "I wish you'd be more careful in the future."
"I can't help it, Seonghwa, believe me, I'm the most careful now," Seohyun said and Seonghwa locked his eyes with her.
"I just don't want to see you hurt, Seohyun-ah. It pains me."
"I know," Seohyun sighed, "I understand."
Seonghwa hesitated then patted her head. "I'm sure you did well back then," he smiled warmly.
"Finally. Thanks again," Seohyun laughed, and San was back. Seohyun took the shirt from him and wore it, standing up. "I'll take a taxi now."
"You sure you don't want me to come with you?" San asked.
"Oh no, it's okay now. She can't follow me in a taxi."
"Okay, at least let me walk you out."
Seohyun said thanks and bye to them all, and they told her to be careful. San and her walked out of the warehouse, and San grabbed her hand, bringing her in for a hug. Seohyun hugged him back, her arms on his back, smiling.
"Were you scared back then?" San asked.
"A little," Seohyun admitted, "Just glad I was near."
San broke the hug, putting her hair behind her ears, touching her cheek below the bruise. "Does it hurt?"
"This? Nope. The one in the back, yes, a little."
"Do get proper treatment," San said, looking at her worriedly.
"I will," Seohyun laughed, "Don't worry too much?"
"How can I not?" San shook his head, leaning forward to kiss her. "Your taxi's here."
------------
Seohyun reached home, cleaning the mess around the house, until she heard the sound of the door opening. Her mother was home.
Seohyun said hello and smiled at her. She looked nothing like her mom; she was tall, had pointy features and narrow eyes, and she looked sharp and intelligent. Her dark hair reached her shoulders. She put her handbag on the table and came to gave her a hug.
"How have you been?"
"Just the usual," Seohyun said, "What about you?"
"Ugh, I've been so busy," she said, collapsing on the sofa. "What do we have for dinner?"
"I'll set the table," Seohyun said. She had prepared her favourite dishes with the help of their previous housemaid, who she was still on good terms with. The old woman would drop by every once in a while, and she'd exchange her kimchi and some traditional dishes for Seohyun's pastas and desserts that she loved.
The mother and daughter caught up on studies and work as they ate. She told Seohyun she would have a busy time in the following month, but she'd try to come for her birthday, or else it was gonna be Christmas.
"How's the ghost business?" Her mother asked, drinking water.
"Was going well, until today I encountered an evil one," Seohyun said, "You'd have to help me with a wound I got on my back."
Her mother stared at her. "Are you alright?"
"Oh I am," Seohyun nodded, "I'll deal with her, I was just caught off-guard. She got me for a second."
"I hope you do," her mother said, "Tell me if you need help."
Seohyun smirked at her, "Wrong thing to say."
Her mother laughed, "Yeah, you probably know way more people than I do. Come on, let me have a look."
Seohyun showed her, and her mother winced. She helped change her bandages and gave her a doctor's information so she could visit and get treated, make up a story about how it was a stray dog or something. Seohyun thanked her, and after chatting a while, she left her to sleep.
"When will you return to work?" Seohyun asked.
"Tomorrow evening. I'll see you off for school in the morning. We'll see each other next month then."
"Oh, okay. Goodnight," Seohyun said, coming to her room and lying on her bed, staring at the ceiling. She wished she had stayed longer. But it was okay.
This was enough.
-----------------
A week had passed without further incidents. Seohyun was careful; she'd take taxi if she could, or she'd keep the sibling duo with her. She called them in, saying she'd owe them one if they could teleport her when needed. So the duo happily stick with her, saying they were bored of living in the hills and would like to visit a school too.
The boys had become friendly with the duo; they'd either communicate through San (who had given up now; he was quite tired of being their voice) or through the old-fashioned way: notebooks. They'd pretend to be studying in class when in fact they'd be having a conversation with the ghosts.
"I have a question," Yeosang said to Seohyun in the middle of class. Seohyun, who had been staring at Mingi and Gayoung conversing, looked at Yeosang.
"How would you get rid of old ghosts like the one you encountered?"
"Good question," Seohyun said, "There are a few options. I could try to talk sense into them. If that doesn't work, I get help from the good ghosts and threaten them. Like, every ghost had some sort of faith, right? Usually works if you use their god against them."
"But what if they have no faith anymore?"
"Goodnight, then, I guess," Seohyun said and Yeosang gasped. "You take help from actual exorcists then too. I once did. Got quite rough, but it works."
"Sounds dangerous," he muttered.
"Kind of," Seohyun agreed.
Seohyun was walking home after school with her new ghost friends when she sensed something amiss. "Just when I thought it was over."
Gayoung and Youngjae covered her back and front defensively. The woman appeared out of nowhere, stopping when she saw the ghosts.
"Well, well," she said, and Seohyun winced. Her voice sounded creepy. "What do we have here?"
"What do you want?" Seohyun asked.
"Death of you," the woman laughed, "Don't try to talk me out of it. You can't."
"What good is that gonna do to you?" Seohyun asked, genuinely curious.
The woman laughed again, this time sarcastically. "Don't tell me you didn't know? When a mediator dies, there is a short time period during which there is no other mediator in the world. That's when ghosts can do whatever they want; trespass, interact with humans, and much more."
"How is that true? I mean, if it were really true, more people would be trying to kill me, won't they?"
"Oh dear," the woman smiled this time, all knowingly, which sent chills throughout her body, "That's why it's a secret, isn't it?"
Gayoung and Youngjae shared looks. If it was true, they could interact with their parents, which was all they wanted. But they wouldn't harm Seohyun for that. Not after all she had done for them.
"I'll be back, girl," the woman's voice was sure, "When you least expect it. And I'll make sure I hear you screaming before you die."
The three of them watched as she gave her a long final look before she disappeared. They were quite for a few seconds and Seohyun caught her breath. "Don't tell me you both want to kill me now too."
"Oh, we wouldn't," Gayoung said, "We really wouldn't."
"You sound very assuring, noona," Youngjae said sarcastically, earning a tsk as he looked at Seohyun. "Let's get you home. We'll look for someone else who can get rid of that old bitch."
Seohyun nodded and they walked home, the duo arguing while Seohyun just walked blankly. She couldn't get the look the ghost had given out of her head. She sounded so sure. As if she had something already planned for her.
Seohyun sat in front of the TV for hours, her mind blank. All she could think was how her gut had felt when she'd said that. As if that was something that was bound to happen. Was she really gonna die?
Seohyun had never been too afraid of dying; not like an average person. For her, it was a life full of danger. She had welcomed and played with aspect of death. But her life had changed drastically over the past months. She had found people to live for. And that meant she was more scared this time.
Her phone buzzed and she read the text. It was from San asking if she wanted him to come over. Seohyun bit her lips in thought. Then she texted 'come over with chocolate ice cream please'.
And San did so. They sat on the sofa, watching TV and eating ice cream as they talked about this and that. Seohyun somehow found it very easy to talk to him, and so did San. He told her all about how he used to live in the countryside when he was little (hence the slight accent), he had mostly grown up with his grandparents because his parents were busy people.
"Don't you miss your parents when they're away?" Seohyun asked. Her ice cream was finished.
"I do, of course. Don't you?"
"I miss my mom sometimes," Seohyun admitted. "She's not as bad as you all think."
San gave her a pointed look and she threw a pillow at him, which he caught. "Come on, you have to admit. She talks to me. She let's me do normal stuff. She doesn't think I'm crazy. And she remembers my birthday every year. That's more than I can ask for."
"Don't you wish she did more?"
"I used to, but then I just accepted it. It's just the way it is."
San looked at her and spread his arms for her. She just threw another pillow at him, rolling her eyes. "I'm serious."
"Okay, okay. What about the ghost?"
"Well," Seohyun sighed and told him what had happened. San listened intently.
"Is there something we can do about it?" he asked.
"I'll go to that exorcist I know, but San," Seohyun turned to face him, "Something's different this time. I can't shake the feeling that something bad is gonna happen."
"It's probably just you overthinking?"
"No, it's different this time," Seohyun sounded sure, and San was actually surprised, "Something is gonna happen and it's gonna be bad. God, I want to cry."
San watched as she put her head in her hands, sighing. She heard San scoot over and she scooted away. "If you hug me now, I'm afraid I'll really cry."
"It's okay to cry, Seohyun, come here," San grabbed her arm and brought her in for a hug, and Seohyun let herself cry. It had been so long since she'd last cry.
"I'm sorry," Seohyun said, sniffing, "I miss Jiwoo a lot, if she was here, she would have handled this so well. I can't help but feel scared for you."
"Do you think something's gonna happen to me?" San asked as he patted her head.
"No. I don't know. I don't know and it's making me so frustrated," Seohyun said and cried harder. San only patted her back, muttering comforting words.
Seohyun drew back and wiped her face. "Sorry for crying on you."
"Anytime," San laughed. "I can understand that you're scared Seohyun, tell me what I can do for you."
"Just- stay with me. That's enough."
San nodded, taking her hand. "Do you want me to play something for you?"
Seohyun raised her brow, "Can you?"
"I can play the piano a little bit, unless you want me to play the violin and scare the dead away."
Seohyun laughed, "Let's go."
They went to the room, and San showed her what he'd learnt from Hongjoong of the piano. Seohyun appreciated the gesture, and on his insistence, she played the violin for him again, and he watched her adoringly.
When she was done, she put the violin down. "I came here a few days ago. I wanted to play the violin but I couldn't because it reminded me of you and I missed you. I played today. It seems like now I only play for you."
Seohyun was packing the violin when San hugged her from the back, his arms around her waist as he rocked them back and forth. Seohyun smiled. He was such a romantic.
"I like that," he whispered in her ear, making her laugh because it tickled. He nibbled on her ear, making her laugh.
"It's like the music room does something to you, San, you become such a romantic."
"I can assure you I'm the same anywhere else too," he said, still hugging her.
Seohyun looked at the clock. It was already 10 pm and they had no school tomorrow. She broke the hug and looked at him, his hands on her waist now.
"I know it's too much to ask, San, and I need you to give an honest answer, okay? I won't mind. But, can you... stay here tonight?" Seohyun almost whispered, tears welling up in her eyes again. "I'm just- I can't be alone tonight. I feel it. Something's gonna happen."
San touched her face, nodding. "Of course. If you want me to. I'll leave early in the morning."
Seohyun sighed in relief, a tear escaping her eye, "Thank you, San. Thank you."
San wiped the tear from her face. He felt scared about how she was feeling too. It was so unusual. Seohyun was always so strong, and she felt so... human. He couldn't leave her like this. He bent down and kissed her lips slowly, her arms going around his neck and her hands in his hair, clearly glad for the distraction.
She broke apart and took his hand, taking him to her bedroom, only the dim lamp on. She pushed him on the bed, surprising him, as she shut the door and kicked off her shoes, climbing on the bed and sitting on his lap. His arms were holding him from lying down and Seohyun went to cup his face and kiss him, so deeply as if she was saying her thanks through this. San's stomach turned, his heart beating wildly and he took the chance, taking one arm to grab her, but fell flat on the bed.
Seohyun was now on top of him. She stared at him for the longest time, and it made San feel so many different things. He saw the necklace he had given her dangling off her neck, and his hand went to touch it as a smile made its way on his face.
Seohyun smiled too then gave him soft pecks on his lips, both of them smiling through it. She was taking her sweet time and San had enough. He flipped her down, now on top of her, making her gasp in surprise as he smirked. But his smirked wiped off as she leaned forward and took his shirt off, running her hands through his toned body.
"Damn, San, I didn't know you worked out," Seohyun smirked.
San only smiled as he kissed her, loving the feeling of her hands all over him. His hands went to her waist and she broke apart for a second, motioning him to unbutton her shirt. San looked at her to make sure it was okay and she nodded, rolling her eyes but smiling.
"Is your wound okay now?" San asked as he unbuttoned her shirt.
"Probably left a scar," Seohyun muttered and he made her sit so he could check.
She was right. 3 parallel scratches had left their scar. It would take time to fade. "You reminded me of that ghost again, San. Distract me."
San kissed her bare shoulder, making her gasp, and kissed and nibbled on her neck, playing with her necklace. Seohyun moaned and felt San smile. She slapped his shoulder, making him laugh. "You asked for it," he said.
"I'm gonna make you moan so loud, Choi San-"
"Sshh," he said, kissing her passionately. Seohyun took that chance to bite on his lower lip while her hands gripped his waist now, and that earned her a moan. It was her turn to smile. San kissed her some more, before lying down with her, pulling the covers over them.
"It's late," he said, bringing her closer, "Sleep now."
"I don't wanna..." Seohyun said, putting her arm around him and kissed his neck, earning a sigh.
"I'm not gonna be able to stop if you keep doing that," San sighed. Seohyun melted at his words.
"Glad to know that," she whispered, but just hugged him, kissing his shoulder innocently now.
"I love you, San. You know that, right?"
"I know," he whispered back.
"I should tell you that everyday. Hell, I should have told you that everyday. I'm sorry."
"Seohyun," San made her face him, "You don't have to. I know that. You don't even have to say it out loud."
"Still," Seohyun said, "I should have told you that everyday."
San stared at her. He kissed her forehead and hugged her. "I love you too. And you know that right? I say it everyday, goofily, jokingly, or sometimes serious. But you still know it, even when I say it as a joke. That's because you know, just like I do."
Seohyun nodded. She buried her face in his chest, going under the covers, his arms securely around him.
"Goodnight, love." San whispered.
