stardust_falling 2023-24 Gift and Giveaway Fics Masterpost!
While SVLPO has been on hiatus, I've participated in several gift exchanges and also written three fics for a follower milestone giveaway, so I decided I would go ahead and list them all in one big post!
SV Summer Solstice Exchange:
Mirror's Reflection
Pairing: Shen Jiu/&PIDW!Native Shen Yuan Rating: M (read warnings!) Length: 63k
After killing his cruel shifu at the Immortal Alliance Conference, Shen Jiu rejects Yue Qingyuan’s attempts to bring him to safety and flees the conference. By chance, while fleeing the cultivation world’s pursuit of Wu Yanzi’s accomplice, he happens to run into a boy who shares his face and surname. This boy, Shen Yuan, is nothing like Shen Jiu— he’s the third young master of a wealthy family, who has lived his life without a single moment of hardship, and spends his days reading novels and daydreaming about traveling the world. Shen Jiu, jealous of his double’s easy life, is surprised and a bit baffled to find that Shen Yuan is discontent with living his life safely inside the walls of his family’s manor, and even a bit jealous of Shen Jiu’s ability to go where he pleases and do what he wishes without worrying about his family’s reputation or concerns. After Shen Jiu is mistaken for the lookalike by members of Shen Yuan’s own household, he proposes an solution: that the two switch places, letting Shen Jiu live Shen Yuan’s comfortable, idle life while the other boy travels the world.
SV Winter Solstice Exchange:
Basic Instincts
Pairing: Gen Luo Binghe & Sha Hualing & Mobei-jun, background Luo Binghe/Shen Qingqiu Rating: T Length: 5k
Keeping the demon world from collapsing into shambles isn't an easy task. Sometimes, Sha Hualing needs to let out a bit of pent-up tension with a nice friendly brawl against her fellow rulers.
QiJiu Secret Santa Exchange:
The Weight of a Promise
Pairing: Yue Qingyuan/Shen Jiu (pre-slash) Rating: M (read warnings!) Length: 27k
Yue Qi made a promise, and he will do whatever it takes to keep it-- even if he nearly destroys himself in the process.
At Cang Qiong Mountain's sword trials, Yue Qi rashly draws the ancient, powerful Xuan Su sword from Wan Jian Peak. He hopes that such a powerful weapon will give him the strength he needs to rescue and protect the friend he left behind, but when the backlash of a failed sword bond nearly costs him his life, he learns that impulsive decisions can have far-reaching consequences.
SV System Server CNY Exchange:
Counterfeit Jade
Pairing: Luo Binghe/Shen Qingqiu, referenced Yue Qingyuan/Shen Jiu Rating: M (non-explicit sex) Length: 11k
Shen Qingqiu would have been perfectly content to live the rest of his life as Shen Qingqiu, thank you very much. Unfortunately, the system had other ideas. It seemed that Shen Qingqiu— no matter which soul had donned this persona— was doomed to have the secrets of his past dragged out into the open and laid bare for everyone to see.
100-Follower Milestone Giveaway:
Twists of Fate
Pairing: Shang Qinghua/Shen Jiu (pre-slash) Rating: T Length: 8k
Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky's one goal as Shang Qinghua is to live as long and comfortably as possible in this world-- and to that end, he has resolved to stay as far away from the scum villain, Shen Qingqiu, as he possibly can, since nothing good could come from that association. Now, if only the two of them could stop being sent out on missions together!
Unfortunately, when someone makes a mistake, it's usually left to the two of them to clean it up-- and sometimes, Shang Qinghua can't help but be reminded of some of his own mistakes that can't be untangled so easily.
Two Birds
Pairing: Yue Qingyuan/Shen Jiu (pre-slash) Rating: T Length: 5k
Newly-ascended peak lords Yue Qingyuan and Shen Qingqiu are still adjusting to their new roles. When they attend a meeting for the upcoming Immortal Alliance Conference, Yue Qingyuan notices that his shidi is very tense, and he resolves to do what he can to ease his mind.
An Unlikely Mediator
Pairing: Yue Qingyuan/Shen Jiu Rating: T Length: 5k
Shen Qingqiu and Yue Qingyuan find a stray kitten while out on a mission and decide to bring it back to Cang Qiong Mountain. This makes all the difference.
OR
The unstoppable force of Qijiu's Communication Issues meets the immovable object of Cat-Induced Inertia.
----
Thank you to everyone who reads, comments, & gives kudos, and I look forward to another year of writing!

Merlin Loregasm Rewatch S1E10
Hi Everyone! Welcome to my rewatch of Merlin focusing on the lore. I am a giant nerd so pretty excited about this. We’re on THE MOMENT OF TRUTH
LETS GO! This one doesnt have the most lore so I am finding little things to cover too. So goosekeeping. In Roman Britain keeping goose domestically was not a big thing. However, by early medieval times, it had very much increased. Merlin stands between these. So keeping geese makes sense. Geese also naturally fatten themselves for winter if left to do so. So are a good choice for a village that doesn't have much to spare in the way of cultivated food.
Now in Feudalism one of the things that was a lord's responsability was basically making sure raiders did not come and do this. Of course, this was done with various degrees of success. Ealdor is a border region and from what we learn. While it is in Cenred's kingdom it does not seem to have a lesser noble of the kingdom ruling over it. It also must be far from Cenred's court. This would leave it far from any protection. Cenred would have more of an interest protecting villages that actually provided him food. (Thus kept up their side of the feudalism deal.) This is later reinforced when it is said they appealed to Cenred (And that their safety is his responsibility) but he cares little for the outlying regions.
Merlin doesn't actually show any lesser nobility that does not live in capital cities. It does however imply they exist. (See Lancelot for more on this) What I find interesting is that Ealdor was not raided before in recent memory. Or at least that it's not mentioned. I wonder if Merlin had anything to do with this.
Funfact "gealdor" in old English means spell or charm or incantation while Ealdor itself means chief, leader, head of family. Prince or king, or Orgin or source. (The last one seems most likely as it is Merlin's place of origin. I cannot find anything about Aecitir Also while Uther is right sending an army over the border would be an act of war. He could VERY likely get away with sending some men as Arthur suggests. ESPECIALLY since there is little likelihood of any of Cenred's soldiers being in the area to know. Its possible if this audience was granted in private he might have risked doing so. And he could have said no and then sent soldiors secretly later BUT this is Uther we are talking about sooooo.
*Screams in not as poor as most commoners Gwen family theory* I feel like I'm kicking a dead horse here but BEING ABLE TO GIVE PEOPLE WEAPONS AND ARMOR IS A BIG DEAL
Morgana: Bring back memories of when I used to beat you
Arthur: That never happened.
So Morgana lost her father at age 10 I have no idea what age Arthur would have been but I'm inclined to believe Morgana and that Arthur made excuses or something. NOW Morgana knows how to fight so I think we need to ask how she was trained? Did Arthur practice with her? Or was she actually trained? From what we see in the show most noblewomen do not know how to fight with swords. So it is not a traditional part of their training in the Merlin world. (The only other noble woman we see using a weapon is Mithian with a crossbow on the hunt and her loving hunting is a rarity by Arthur's reaction.) Medieval woman often used bows on the hunt so this is "normal" There are examples of medieval woman warriors but they are fairly rare. I think Morgana got actual lessons in sword craft from knights and that is was an indulgence of her wanting to learn it by Uther.
OKAY! So they keep chickens too! I'm guessing that they mostly keep them for eggs and perhaps meat very occasionally. Eggs would be a HUGELY valuable source of protein, Along with milk (Merlin mentions there being cows even if we do not see them in this episode) So from what we see, Merlin's diet growing up would have been milk, grains, eggs, and likely some fruits and vegetables as we saw those taken earlier. Perhaps every once in a while some meat.
Confirmation most of the village did not know about Merlin's Secret. I gotta wonder what they thought when Hunith up and sent him seemingly defenseless on the same road we see so many bandits on. Actually Hunith makes her way to Camalot twice on her own though. So Bandaits just ignore peasants if they don't look like they have anything of value on them but if knights and rich people are around attack? I think that's the only explanation for how safe roads in Merlin seem to be for peasants without valuables and how dangerous for LITTERALY everyone else.
Will: why did you Leave?
Merlin: It wasn't what I wanted. My mother was worried. When she found out you knew she was so angry.
Will: I wouldn't have told anyone.
We also know Hunnith said Merlin was at odds with people and Merlin later says you cannot always trust people. (There is also nearly dropping a tree on old man simons with magic.) This entire thing is interesting because Cenred does not hate magic like Uther does. He was fine with Morgouse. So it's quite possible magic is not illegal, or if those rules were in place once Cenred ignored him. Personally I think Hunith was afraid of Cenred taking Merlin and using him as a weapon. Perhaps there would have been a large reward for anyone who discovered a powerful magic user and brought the news to Cenred. This is just a theory of course. She also might have been afraid of someone putting together him being Balinor's son and that information getting out.
Let's take a moment to look at the status of women in the Merlin world. Casual sexism is a thing ("You are such a girl's pedicoat , losing to a girl being bad, Arthur not wanting the woman to fight. ETC) but we sometimes see common women owning land and businesses (Mary's tavern that appears in the Gwaine episode. Alice being a healer.) And the old religion VERY much revered women. However, Female Knights don't seem to be a thing. In fact, As we addressed earlier girls being skilled in battle seems unusual (Though we it in a magic outlaw group once and Isolde. As well as Morgana and Morgouse) and killing them in battle is seen as particularly bad. However, like real medieval woman, they can participate in hunting ETC. They also CAN rule (Gwen, Morgana, Annis) Chastity does not seem as big a deal. Woman can be alone with men without bad comments. And they go where they want without escort. Olaf's behavior toward Vivian is viewed as excessive as well. However, I don't think most noble women have sex before marriage. (Talking about Arthurs's intentions being honorable Uther not trying to bed Katrina until their wedding knight.) While perhaps doing it is not such a big deal (Vivian talking about previous men being chased with knives, Uther urging Arthur to have fun while he can with Sofia) Unsure about commoners. Also I would guess Men inheriting before women is not a thing based on how Morgana is seen as a viable heir to the throne. Also by the size of families we see birth control is readily available. SO A huge improvement on the real middle ages. But casual sexism is still a thing.

TW: Long Ask Okay, so basically, this au has a long title but I dubbed it Child of the Sword. It started off with Zoro being able to see the spirits of the swords since in One Piece, swords are sentient and are possessed in a way. Only Zoro can see these spirits and talks to them all the time. At first, he didn't realize others couldn't see them. My friend and I played around with this a lot, and now's it's developed into a whole thing.
When Kuina died, Zoro's anger and grief erupted and Zoro discovered he was the incarnation of the Ancient Weapon: Ares. Created by the war god Asura. The sensei makes Zoro swear to never use his power in public unless it was life or death. Zoro goes on to see Kuina's spirit tied to Wado Ichimonji. During the shells town arc, Morgan is extra cruel bc he is Morgan, and when Zoro is tied in the courtyard he has the swordsman whipped on the back, marring and littering Zoro's back with scars. Zoro's honor is in shambles when Luffy shows up and helps him. During Baratie, Zoro fights Mihawk and loses, ending up with the scar on his chest. After Zoro promises to never fail, he whipsers "Finally a worthy scar" and Mihawk overhears. Mihawk almost noted how Zoro always seemed to be looking at things that aren't there. So naturally, the warlord decides to kidnap Zoro instead of Luffy (yes I am mashing up OPLA and the anime, fight me). The Straw hats go on the free Nami from Arlong then make plans to get Zoro back from Mihawk. Zoro is less than pleased to be kidnapped by the strongest swordsman. Mihawk brings Zoro with him to meet with Shanks about Luffy's bounty poster and Shanks convinces Mihawk to give Zoro back to the Straw Hats, but before that happens, Mihawk and Zoro end up talking about Zoro's special abilities. Mihawk comes to the realization of what Zoro is and keeps it to himself. During the two year time skip, Zoro reunites with Mihawk (even though he never stopped talking with the warlord after being dropped off ((begrudgingly)) at lougetown). Mihawk trains Zoro in the way of the sword AND helps him to realize his full potential. This is all I have for now, but I have ideas for Dressrosa and Wano. :D
oooooh this is so interesting! you could play a lot with the idea that zoro sees sword spirits! i'd also be so curious to know what zoro sees of yoru, if he sees her at all. im a fan of this theory i saw where being in control of your sword means being control of its spirit, and being in control is shown by your eyes looking like imu's. that perhaps hakuba is cavendish's sword spirit manifesting in a way cavendish cant control; that zoro's scarred eye is hiding proof of a spirit that had to be sealed away lest it overpower him; and that mihawk's eyes have those same rings because he's fully in control of yoru's sword spirit. i could see smth like that working in conjunction with kuina's spirit in wado diring the timeskip, that zoro trains with her (cries) to unlock wado ichimonji's full power, and that it's possible because of his ability to see sword spirits!!!
also obsessed with the idea that mihawk pivots and kidnaps zoro instead, especially because he really doesnt have to. 😂 mihawk meeting a boy that can see sword spirits and deciding "i will train him whether he wants me to or not" and then kidnapping him to give his nearly-bisected ass terrible first aid on his coffin boat... hilarious. 😂😂 shanks seeing the absolutely haggard and scowling teenager limping as he follows mihawk onto that island and being exasperated like,
shanks: you have to give him back, mihawk.
mihawk: no, he can see sword spirits. i need to have a hand in cultivating his power.
shanks: mihawk, you can't just--wait, you can what? omg does gryphon actually look like a gryphon?!?!?! wait, no, no, i'm trying to be the voice of reason here.
red-haired pirates in the background: *burst out laughing at shanks being the voice of reason*
and also probably mihawk will throw in some bratty sort of shot at shanks getting to bet on luffy and why cant he bet on zoro, and shanks will have to be like, "i didn't kidnap luffy, mihawk, just put him back!" hahaha.
i digress! interesting idea tho 👀👀👀

You know, if I didn't have Nikia's canonverse job be a ranger on a snowy mountain, I probably would have done something along the lines of like, a blacksmith.
Mostly because it's cool as hell and would enable me to design my little blorbos custom weapons and jewelry.
So I did revisit the idea today while actively putting off anything more productive than a shower after work.
Specifically I've had those "if this was domain expansion what would it be?" Prompts where it's a sick ass picture of some sort of landscape and the next slide (on Tiktok, not even going to pretend) has a screenshot of some commenters sick ass lines.
And anyway, it brought to mind how I'd like to imagine my 'inner world' as like, a sea of stars. Similar to the mirror lake world of Tanjiro (I think? Haven't watched demon slayer) but just endless galaxies. And the ground is only indicated by glowing stardust at your feet like fog. Billowing and drifting by with every step.
This is going somewhere, I promise.
Anyway, I thought it'd be neat if there was a particular calling of blacksmithing where some people can create weapons or other objects perfectly in sync with a specific person. Lowkey Soul Reaper shit from Bleach (say what u will about the plot, Kubo designed sick ass hell shit left and right). And Nikia ends up finding out she's one of these people.
It's not a perfect system, of course, and rarely is someone's 'perfect' weapon like, a black blade from the start. You have to cultivate that shit.
But hers is an unexpectedly short blade, with a shattered edge. Like it was meant to be a full katana or kodachi blade but broke. And it is black, but not perfect. It almost looks like the night sky, stars scattered along the sides. It came to her in a dream and is actually exactly as it's meant to be. With the use of haki, it's full length is revealed as a sort of ghost blade. The hilt wrapped in braided silk and tied with hanging bells.
Maybe she even has a long range weapons. Torn between a bow that sings when fired and is waayyy too accurate or she makes her usual sniper rifle anyway and it's silent, no kickback unless she wants it. Just a little shit of a weapon, perfectly suited to her more deadly mischief.
Neato!
Anyway, she prefers to make jewelry but on special request, will make these custom "Spirit Weapons" that have unique properties suited to the user and basically no one else. There are people she won't make blades for, and Shanks is one of them cause his own blade is "very possessive, anything I make would need to be both an equal and a competitor. And Shanks only has one arm so..."
She has to sort of meditate with them and if they want that fucking weapon, they better play along. She has to sort of... Divine? Invite the spirit of their perfect weapon? They start off pretty sentient or haunted, like old cursed blades lol
Sometimes the blades are already black when she's done (usually older, very experienced customers) but usually not even close. She can also make other weapons but people usually only think to ask for a sword. Some would end up with a different, very unexpected weapon instead.
Thatch would probably try and ask for custom blades for himself, expecting something like his usual blades. But winds up with vicious, twirly blades. Izou doesn't expect anything but Nikia gifts him a special gun with a set of bullets, shockingly. Thatch's blades meant to be quick, cutting deep and leaving gaping wounds. Izou's shocked at how quiet his new gun is, and how far it shoots for a handgun.
Or something like that. Just fiddling with ideas lol
I thought it would be neat! I don't see a lot of blacksmiths specifically, and if the idea of a sullen, well-meaning part-time hostess part-time rescue ranger didn't enthrall me so much, I'd go with this!
#mittens muses#op oc nikia#whitebeard would also get one lol#ace doesnt need a weapon but hed get that brace i designed him ages ago

I love this idea because imagine a reincarnated protagonist that doesn't carry around a sword so people think they're weak asf and an easy target. When in reality, they have learned numerous martial arts (taekwondo, muay thai, judo, karate, jiu-jitsu, krav maga, etc.) and fucking goes to town with cultivators because they have yet to know the power of "these fists are rated e for everyone" batshit cultivator that is the protagonist. And it also happens that muscle memory is ingrained into their body so it's very apparent they have experience and now everyone is panicking about this 'rogue and savage' cultivator that does not believe in honour.
To add to this amazing idea, what if said protagonist does not hesistate to fight dirty. I'm talking beating the shit out of people with random objects, pulling hair, biting, scratching, strangles people, using unconvential weapons/uses weapons in an unconventional way. Like imagine if their sword breaks and their opponent thinks that victory is theirs. But then our lovely mc uses the broken piece and somehow manages to sharpen each side and fucking stabs their opponent.
Or if the protagonist really hates using swords but they're not opposed to using other weapons such as bows and polearms. Like can you imagine a showdown between the mc and a powerful undefeated cultivator, and the cultivator is waiting for mc to show up and they get shot with an arrow and they're like
Cultivator: "COME OUT AND FACE ME LIKE AN HONOURABLE CULTIVATOR SHOULD"
Main 'i do not give a shit about using swords or having honour' protagonist: fuck no, i'm killing you with my bow and arrow
And when mc gets closer, they pull out a polearm which gives them an advantage over a sword because of the longer reach
If mc runs out of arrows, they just beat the hell out them with the bow and smacks the life out of them. And finally, out of complete disrespect, bitchslaps them into the abyss; maybe uses their fists to spice up the fight.
And when all is done, people are speaking about this mad dog, insane, demonic cultivator who disregards honour and people think their some buff, rude, demon/demonic cultivator. Then it cuts to a nice, polite, and respectful looking person who just is realistic about fights and could not give less of a shit about fighting with honour because honour does not guarantee you your life. Also they hate when people yap during fights because that is the one thing you don't do because whoopsy daisy, I dislocated your jaw.
Anyways thank you @thealexanderfiles for the genius idea that we all needed to hear about
there is too much sword fighting in xianxia novels. i propose a main character who is completely average at swordplay but is skilled in hand to hand fighting. so they decide to use this as a trump card, and not really display their abilities.
bonus points if this scene is included:
opposition, pointing their sword at MC's throat : It's over. you have lost your sword, you are kneeling at my feet. i have won-
MC: wow your knees look really breakable down here
opposition: what
cutscene to MC pinning opposition in chokehold

AU in which Wei WuXian never joins a sect
I've got this idea while staring at the wall trying to convince myself that there is a benefit to getting out of bed, and it's been itching me since, so here. I'm throwing it out there in hopes someone will like it, or maybe someone already thought of it in which case I'll be grateful for pointing
Warning: I am very new to the concept of cultivation and am mostly extrapolating from what I've read in like five novels/comics, please correct me if I've got something obviously wrong, I want to learn
As it says on the lid - Wei WuXian somehow missed every possible chance to join a sect, and when finally that chance all but slapped him in the face, he went like "no, thanks".
Little scrappy Wei WuXian living on the streets Xue Yang style, having bad and good things happen to him (mostly bad though, he's a child on the streets). He doesn't have anyone to properly teach him stuff, sans occasional granny or grandpa wiling to mistake him for their grandchild and explain, but he's smart and curious, so he mostly learns by watching other people do things. He learns this way how to sew, how to cook, how to fight, how to make a fire, how to steal. He takes what little he knows how to read and learns more by blatantly "misreading" things and having people correct him while calling him stupid. He trails after hunters and learns how to make a camp, which berries/roots can be eaten, how to catch and prepare game.
He also watches those people in colorful clothes fight all those scary monsters and people-who-were-dead-but-no-longer-are. They’re kind of like his parents were, and Wei WuXian remembers what they told him when he asked, he watches those new people, and puts two and two together. He doesn't get a 4, but he does get like a 4.3 and it's basically correct if you round it.
It's a lot of trial and error,:if I do this then that will happen, and when I do this then it hurts. But it's something to connect him to his parents, and he realizes later it's useful because he's slowly hearing better and smelling better, and he can see his prey very clearly, and he gets stronger.
He never gets a sword, because who can afford a sword on his budget, but he can make himself arrows just fine. And look, the mourning cultivators play instruments to fight, maybe he can learn that too? And he saw a few of the cultivators with big swords punch the creatures, and he has two fists too. He picks talismans dropped by those in yellow, and reverse-engineers them.
This time around he didn't have a cranky teacher to kick him out of the class for suggesing using resentful energy, or friends who told him that this time cranky teacher may be right. If he grabbed some from time to time, shhh it's a secret.
And so we have this rogue, self-taught cultivator, that sometimes spends more time in the wild than with people. One day he will bring a deer to the towns butcher, another day he will bring a yao no one recognizes. He's always happy to get rid of some corpses for a warm meal and night in the house. Maybe a chance to take a hot bath. As he grows and gets stronger, he fights stronger and stronger "evil creatures", with absolutely no reference point of how strong they are.
At some point, of course, the sects hear about him. Maybe they're angry he's hunting on their territory and want to chase him away. Maybe they've heard about him single-handedly defeating some really dangerous creature one too many times and want to teach him a lesson about lying for reputation. Maybe they realize they get fewer and fewer requests from people becuase this guy is just cheaper. Whatever the reason, no one manages to find him, because when you live on the streets, being "looked for" is generally a bad thing.
That's when the real fun begins, because for everything that happened to him, there are two things that never changed from canon - Wei WuXian is a good, mischievous person. At the beginning, he only avoided people looking for him, but once he realized he can get away from them easily? The game was on. He would lead the younger ones on wild goose chase ending in a cave full of rabid, mutated squirrels. He will string the older ones by the nose across two mountains and three swamps, knocking their swords from under their feet left and right. He will trap them in a illusion maze and watch them walk in circles for hours. Sometimes they aren't even looking for "rogue cultivator" him, sometimes he just didn't get a chance to bathe and gets mistaken for a creature. There are even some who claim he's not a human, but a regular ghost, since he's so small, if he was human he would be barely a teen, no way he can do all that already.
Unable to live down the humiliation, senior disciples start claiming that being sent after him is a rite of passage, and juniors drink it up. In a few years, it does end up being one. While the goal is to catch him, since only ever Nie MingJue managed to do that for all of six seconds [Wei WuXian mistook him for older and didn’t expect a “child” way of thinking from him], you get graded by how well you hunt him. How many times you get dunked in a pond. How well you reacted to suddenly being dropped in the middle of a pack of conveniently present corpses. How fast you've got yourself out of a trap. If you manage to get a glimpse of him, you get the bragging rights.
Wei WuXian keeps his distance, but there are some he likes more than others. The one from Jiang sect that gets angry really easily, almost got him by swimming faster than Wei WuXian anticipated. He also got him once out of a pinch, and his nice sister left him some snacks as a thank you. There's a Lan one who Wei WuXian swore he will get a reaction from. A Nie one that suggested right away that he will leave Wei WuXian some books from his collection if he spares him. A Jin one, who seems really pampous even for his sect, that's really fun to prank (and if Wei WuXian heard he's engaged to the nice Jiang sister, it has nothing to do with it). And that shy Wen one, Wei WuXian just never had a heart to properly prank, and instead when he got his sleeve pinned by arrow, he waited long enough to praise him for his archery before running.
He could join any of the sects, and he knows it, and maybe it would make his life easier, but the Lan's have really bland food [yes, he snuck in] and that wall of rules; he wants to punch every Jin that's around him for more than five minutes; the madam of Jiang sect is scary; and the Nie's don't have enough forest around them in his opinion. He also doubts the smaller sects would let him keep his way.
Worst of all, he would have to wear matching clothes. Ugh.
No thanks.
Just, half-feral Wei WuXian running around, pranking the ever loving shit out of everyone, being overall a sect public menace number one.
#hag talks#mdzs#Wei WuXian#long post#mo dao zu shi#this is longer than it looked in my head#why?#also I have no idea if sword like weapon is needed for cultivation#but I really like the idea of Wei WuXian using bow for that purpose#would all of that even work?

To protect, to serve! - Introduction
Note: ProtectorCreator!Reader time! When I first started this it was a sleepless night, and this is a bit long for me so I will leave it as an intro to the story. This is definitely going to turn into a multiple part story, mostly because I can't help myself with the details. I sadly am the worst at keeping up with names for locations and the map in general since I prefer to teleport everywhere during quests to try to catch up on the main story but if you guys want to help and give me ideas (or want to add your OC into the story as a regular follower/helper/ally), let me know! Also, should I add turning into a child after exhausted your power HC? I am tempted to, as well as some other stuff.
Summary: Creator!Reader that was born of an insanely powerful god and goddess, with the latter being the protector of the universe everyone resided in and your father being your mother's bodyguard. You had grown tired of the planet they had cultivated and created your own called Teyvat, but watched from a distance while the others created other planets and universes. You granted the people from your planet a unique power they called Visions, something the other gods soon realized they could utilize for their own plans. Of course, you soon realize their plans and become the protector to your creation and descended to better guard Teyvat.
Warnings: Mentions of battle, etc. Will mostly be first and third person POV.
below the cut
You released your sword from your grip and let it slice down another enemy, then let it come back to your hand. Scoffing, you shook your head. 'This is pointless; they keep coming..' You glanced behind you to your favorite creation, a beautiful planet full of life and splendor. You sensed another futile attack from another idiot, which you dodged and let them taste your sword. You noticed another trying to sneak by while your attention was elsewhere. You teleported right in front of them and cut them down. Finally, having enough, you let your power show as you summoned clones of your weapon and let them finish the fight. 'This is getting ridiculous. I am a one-person army at this point. I can't always be aware of everything happening around me since it would render me down from sensory overload after some time. I have to change the tides somehow..' Letting your (e/c) glow with a bright red shine that shows your increasing anger, you raised your right hand above your hand and willed your sword to change its shape to a scythe and let it grow in size. 'This will give me some time..' You swiped quickly, hearing the crackle of the air from your weapon swiping through the air until finally hitting down all the remaining enemies. Eyeing the planet, you spotted an open area you could descend to and decided to get moving.

You arrived at a wide-open space, a grassy hill. If your memory serves correctly, this was- "Windwail Highland, you are near Dawn Winery, Your Excellence." You were startled at first, feeling the words rather than hearing them. Chuckling, you bent down and patted the ground after realizing who it was. "Why, thank you, Teyvat. It's quite difficult to keep up with the names and information my dear mortals call these locations. Especially since I have only observed from afar." "Of course, Your Excellency. Although my power is limited at this moment, I will do my best to assist you. However, if I may..." "If you wonder why I have descended so suddenly after many years, I am here to protect this planet and all that inhabit it. There are greedy fellows after the power I have granted here, most likely to experiment and cause chaos with it." "I see. Is there anything I may do in this case, Your Excellency?" "Hmm, actually, there is. If I try to use too much power right now.." You paused and summoned a bit of your power to increase your senses but flinched after being able to sense past Liyue. "I will need assistance in keeping track of where the greedy individuals try to create a way to this planet. Just let me know where I shall teleport there and take care of them myself. Could you do that for me, my dear Teyvat?" "Of course, Your Excellency." Pursing your lips, you created a small orb and let it fall from your fingertips. It sinks into the earth below your feet, and you feel the world shudder. "I have given you a little upgrade to help you sense what I am looking to prevent entering. They love to create portals to have large amounts of their followers rush through. Still, because they are not allowed to step foot in Teyvat without my permission, they will need to grow the portals. It will send a signal that should let us both know when they are attempting to break through my system. I thwarted their last attempt just a few hours ago, so I shall rest to gather the strength that I lost and experiment on how much power of mine you may tolerate. I do apologize for the trouble, Teyvat. I will also change my appearance, just if the mortals get in my way. For now, could you lead me to an open space and to create a small cabin? As much as I would love to meet my dear mortals, I need to prepare." "Yes, Your Excellency. I have let a wolf pack know. They shall guide you while I prepare the upgrade and acclimate myself to it. I appreciate your kindness." Letting your body relax and your eyes soften, you waited until you could hear paws hit the ground.
Could you also sense footfalls from a child? Interesting. Seconds pass, and you finally see a pack of wolves rush to your location, and you finally notice there is a white-haired human child with them. 'A human child? Is he part of their pack? Ah..' The child nervously looks at you as they finally stop before you. Luckily you retracted your aura before descending. It may create problems if everyone goes into an alert and the Archons try to find you. The wolves bowed their heads, showing their loyalty and reverence for you. The child stared at you before getting a growl from one of the wolves to lower his head. You smiled and approached the child before falling your body to meet his eyes. "Hello, child. What is your name?"
"Razor! Uhm! Wolves are Lupical! Sense you! Escort!" Fighting back a laugh, you realized this was a wild child. Wolves raised him, and he was part of the family by its looks. You stood back up to your full height and smirked at them. "Thank you, Razor. It is very nice to meet you and your Lupical. I am here in secret, so I hope you do not let other humans know I am here, alright?" Razor nodded, clutching his fists and with stars in his eyes as he stared at you with the determination of an acolyte. You chuckled and gestured to start the journey.
After about a 20-minute trek, mainly because your curiosity got ahold of you. You wandered a bit to look closer at the fascinating creatures and plants on the way to your destination. Razor was also cutely trying to help you with the names of the things you looked at, so you couldn't stop yourself from laughing and patting his head. Poor Razor was so started and so red that he looked like an apple, and you soon heard the whimpers of the other wolves as they also tried to get your attention. After spending 5 minutes petting everyone to their heart's content, we finally continued and soon arrived at your temporary home. You saw a big enough area and snapped your fingers as you let your power flow, and a small, cute cabin quickly assembled itself: home, sweet home.

Hiiii! I saw your post about Genshin boys with Kanao!reader. IT!IS!BEAUTIFUL!!!✨AMAZING✨ soooo may I please request HC with Shinobu!reader(personality, story, skills) for Childe and Zhongli, if it’s possible? Yandere or not, it doesn’t really matter ahah I just like the way you write 🥺🥺🥺💔
Yandere Childe and Zhongli with a Shinobu!Reader
tw; yandere content. mentions of death. mentions of killing. spoilers for Shinobu's story.
genre; headcanons/scenarios
characters; Tartaglia(Childe), Zhongli
scenario; Everyday life in Liyue with two men obsessed pining for you.
an; you like the way I write? omg, thank you! I actually had the same idea a few days ago, but I threw it out the window not literally. I also didn't include the story of Shinobu because it doesn't fit quite well in the game. reader here is gender-neutral, no pronouns mentioned. reader originally came from Inazuma, ran away from their home. the reader got a vision of when their sister was murdered. I may have got carried away - THIS TOOK LONGER THAN I THOUGHT.
Personality;
For all we know, Shinobu was once a hot-headed woman before her sister, Kanae died in a mission, at the hands of a demon. Kanae told her younger sister to quit the corps and live a normal life, but she swore vengeance for her older sister. Shinobu took the personality of her being giddy, always smiling, being gentle, from her deceased sister, Kanae. She's also rather sadistic and would give her enemies a quick death, sometimes, she would also torture her enemies.
She also hides her anger through the facade of her sister.
History;
Shinobu was born as the youngest daughter within the Kocho household, living alongside her mother, father, and older sister Kanae Kocho. She was raised in a loving and caring household until her parents were slaughtered by Demons right before her and her sister's eyes.
Just when the Demon was about to take the lives of her and her sister as well, they were saved by the Hashira, Gyomei Himejima, who slew the Demon. Now more determined as a result of the pain and suffering they endured, Shinobu and Kanae both promised to become Demon Slayers to protect each other, as well as prevent other people from enduring the same losses they had to experience. Eventually, after managing to move a boulder, they convinced Himejima to introduce them to a cultivator.
Later in her life, while accompanying her sister Kanae on a trip, the sisters encountered a young girl being led away as a slave on a bridge. Intrigued by her, Kanae took an interest and decided to take the girl back to the Butterfly Estate, against Shinobu's initial wishes. They eventually purchased the girl, named Kanao Tsuyuri, from her master and trained her within the Butterfly Estate to become the next Tsuguko.
Skill(s);
Shinobu is rather skilled with the way of the sword, her style would consist of thrusting attacks since she has a lack strength in arms due to her small stature. Since she can't behead demons, she uses wisteria poison as her weapon against demons. The "stinger" is designed for the injection of Wisteria poisons into Demons. Shinobu has become extremely proficient in the use of her combat style due to it being suited to her needs and abilities, which played a major role in her strength as a Hashira.
That being said, she's also rather skilled in medical expertise. Despite not being as combat talented as the rest of her fellow hashira, she displays immense skill and mastery over pharmaceutical fields to make up for her lack of natural-born combat abilities, being highly knowledgable about how to create various poisons and venoms using Wisteria flowers.
She is capable of killing opponents within seconds and even manages to create a poison strong enough to drastically weaken Doma, the second strongest Demon of the Twelve Kizuki.
Tartaglia/Childe
Douma and Shinobu 2.0
You literally hate this guy with your whole being. And you avoid this guy every time you meet.
Childe often visits you in Bubu Pharmacy which is where your job is since you fled from Inazuma.
When you first arrived in Liyue, the first thing in your mind to do was to find a stable job, a home to stay in and find a way to kill the Fatui who killed your sister.
You explored the city a little more until you saw the pharmacy, it brought a smile to your face. Who knew that the city of Liyue has a pharmacy?
So, the first thing you did is talk to the reception, and ask who the owner is. The person told you to wait, for a person named, "Baizhu". And so you did.
You waited until you saw a man in green hair, with a white snake on his shoulder rests. It reminded you of someone with the same snake.
He asked you if you know about medicinal practices, and you answered with a yes and proof of 5 years of practice and medicines in your bag.
He was astounded, from the look on his face, and hired you to work at the pharmacy. He showed you around, in his storage rooms, and introducing Qiqi to you. You surprisingly took of it well, despite having a zombie right before you.
He also asked you if you have somewhere to stay, it shocked you, someway, and you shook your head slightly. He somehow has a place for you to stay, and you accepted his offer.
From then on, you're a worker at the Bubu Pharmacy.
Back to the Fatui-
He always visits you. Every day, every night, at a certain time, when he's done after work.
When he's at work, you're in relief that he is away while you can still run errands and deliver medicine all throughout Liyue. While on the other hand, he misses you greatly and wants to be near you. He assigns some of his people to keep an eye on you, for his sake. None of them questions him why.
When he doesn't have any work, this boy will be in the pharmacy, there constantly to annoy you (at least that's what you think).
But the true meaning of his actions is that he's keeping an eye on you. Constantly thinking of how attractive you are of how great you are at doing your job.
It irks you a lot since you are starting to think that he's creepy when those ocean blue eyes stare at you 24/7. A lot of people get scared by him since he's there and scared of the aura you're emitting despite the gentle smile on your lips.
When someone talks at you and looks at you in the eyes, he'll glare at them until they leave, or when you look at him. He might kill them if he feels like it. And then tomorrow morning, news that a body has been found dead. You will feel some guilt over your shoulder. Didn’t you just met this man yesterday?
When you do errands/tasks in the city, he'll go with you, and maybe ask you to have lunch with him at the Wanmin Restaurant after you're done with it. In which sometimes you decline, and sometimes you accept. Though even you decline he won't take no for an answer, he'll drag you with him.
If you do errands out of the city and goes in the wild, he's ready to guard you and defend you. In which you insist on going alone, and finishing the task by yourself. He accepts defeat, but one time, you ran into a hillichurl camp and defeats them with ease, noticing an arrow behind a Mitachurl's back. Was someone following you? It made your skin shiver in fear. You immediately run to the location where the patient is and gives the treatment, give them a prescription given by Baizhu, takes the Mora pouch, and sprint back to Liyue, not noticing someone following you. The patient was utterly confused about how hastily you gave them the medicine, and take the Mora from them.
You're a little paranoid when you're alone, you hate it. You hate that it makes you scared, it makes you feel weak. You release the anger in clearing a camp at night, not caring about the blood on your blade after you've massacred the Hillichurls. Still have the feeling of someone watching you, you quickly went home, washed your clothes, changing to your bedtime attire, cleaned your sword clean, ate dinner, you head to bed not noticing the silhouette right before your window.
He'll ask how you got your Vision, and you say that you got it on the day your sister died. He immediately regrets it, and engulfs you in a warm hug, saying that he's sorry for asking and he shouldn't have. You felt a warmth that you haven't felt before, so you returned the hug.
When you returned the gesture of embracing him back, he's shocked, you returned his hug, he's LIVID on the inside, oh how happy he is to feel your embrace, how happy to smell your beautiful scent, while also knows your pain because he has siblings too. He'll be damned if anything happened to his brothers and sisters. He's also a little mad, seeing you cry breaks his heart, how could they do that to you and your sibling?
He then asks you who killed your sister, you're a bit skeptical about telling him who killed your sister since you know that this man is a Fatui Harbinger. If you then tell him, he's going to be extremely mad, and will, find out who it is, and murder them in cold blood. The next morning, he'll bring you a severed finger, telling you that this is the finger of the man who murdered your sister. You then proceed to burn the finger, he'll ask you why you incinerated it, you then tell him; "Every part of him deserves to burn in hell."
If you don't tell him, then that's fine, he knows that it's hard to speak when you're frustrated on describing who the murderer is, he'll be there to comfort you, and pamper you. He'll take care of you himself.
He also will constantly ask you out on a date with him in which you politely decline, and you reason that you're busy, and says that you should take a break once in a while. It's unhealthy to overexert yourself.
If you keep declining him, he'll snap and will kidnap you and keep you to himself, all his, his only darling. And you being sadistic, you'll throw insults here and there, while you keep your facade and resisting the urge to shout at him maybe threaten to kill him and gouge his eyes out, or poison him. But he sees those little threats as empty or not life-threatening. Even if it is. Maybe he'll keep you as his spouse if you behave well. He'll make you depend on him, even on getting stuff at the tallest cupboard, he'll do it for you. He would absolutely buy anything for you to make you stay with him and love him.
Trying to escape is not a good decision, if he caught you trying to destroy the lock or the door, he'll add more locks, and will probably hide the keys, somewhere you couldn't reach.
If you accepted on going out with him, he'll happily smile, and tell you he has reserved the whole Xinyue Kiosk at dusk. While you were in agape, of how rich is this guy is. He reserved the whole restaurant for his darling. He'll stare at you the whole time while you both wait for the food, feeling uneasy by his lovesick stare. When the food arrives, he'll be nervous, he doesn't know how to use chopsticks. You'll laugh at him for not mastering using the chopsticks, and will constantly tease him for using a spoon and fork, you teased said that; "Maybe you should use the training ones, you big baby~." His face was flustered, but it doesn't mean that he won't tease you back, only to make you blush. You both will try to make each other blush, seeing it as a competition to you both.
When both of you are done eating, he'll drag you to all the shops, buy you clothes, accessories, flowers, anything really. He's rich, why should he worry for Mora? You'll make his pockets hurt because you want to see the dread in his face. But instead of the fearful look of losing Mora, he has the face of an infatuated puppy, wagging its tail excitingly.
After the date, he'll ask if you had fun, and insisting on taking you home. You can't deny that this man isn't a handsome attractive one, and his pretty face sometimes annoys the hell out of you. If you caught feelings for him, you'll NEVER admit it that you caught feelings with a Fatui and will constantly deny it, but if you do admit it, you kiss him in the check or give him a quick lip on the lips, and you hastily say goodnight and run quickly inside your settlement, while he's standing there jaw on the floor, trying to process in his mind what just happened. Does that mean you love him?
This man will return to his place happily he will not sleep constantly remembering the feeling of your delightful lips making contact with his skin and will always remember it, maybe he'll boast it to his friend, Mr. Zhongli tomorrow morning, and visit you at the Bubu Pharmacy.
All of his plans are working, all he has to do is ask for you to be his, not that you're not his in the first place anyways.
You're going to be his, soon enough.
Zhongli
This man is a gentleman, no doubt.
It was just another day in Bubu Pharmacy, you there just stacking up types of powders, concoctions, herbs, medicines, etc.
Until you heard the sounds of footsteps approaching, you turn around gracefully to see a pair of amber eyes, staring at you. It took your breath away, from how just beautiful those eyes we're, and how they seem to slightly glow. Just who is this man?
Your train of thoughts got interrupted by a voice calling out to you.
The man seemed to need to get painkillers, according to the prescription signed by the owner of the Bubu Pharmacy.
When you asked for who it is for, he just said; "It is not for me, rather it is for an old friend."
How thoughtful for a man to help a friend. You thought. You don't expect a man who looks busy with his work to help a friend.
You then went to grab the right amount of painkillers and packaged it inside a small paper bag. You then handed out the paper bag with one hand smiling, thanking the man for making a purchase at the pharmacy, your eyes widened in surprise, and your lips suddenly stopped speaking when you felt his touch, it made your skin tingle. The man looks at you in concern, asking if you're alright, you slowly looked up and reasoned that you're feeling fine, just a little tired.
The man then recommends for you to rest easy at night, for you to stop overworking your body, you just shrugged it off to saying; "I know how to take care myself, Mister...?" You trailed off with a questioning tone, simply asking what his name is.
He introduced himself as Zhongli, a consultant in Wangsheng Funeral Parlor.
There's a funeral parlor in Liyue? You blinked twice in surprise, and the man chuckled at your shocked expression, at the new discovery.
He then gives you a pamphlet that Hu Tao would always ask her to give out to the people of Liyue, which they would sometimes refuse.
It started off just like that, sometimes you two would meet when you ran errands for Baizhu or when a person would need medical assistance in far more places.
It then turned to a daily meeting at the streets of Liyue, it's inevitable to meet the gentleman when he buys expensive things, or when he haves lunches with the Fatui Harbinger, or when he visits you in the pharmacy, reminding you to rest, and eat healthily, but delicious and filling meal, three times a day.
If you are free, and you're doing nothing, he'll invite you to drink tea and reminisce about things in life. He then asks you when did you get your vision, you say that you got your vision when your sister died. He'll say sorry for bringing the topic up, but you'll just shrug it off, but your grip on the cup says otherwise, you're not angry at him, you're angry at the murderer.
He doesn't need to know who murdered your sister, he's a god, a divine being, he knows who it is. On the next day, many people were gathered around a seemingly, pit where blood splattered, and a body, unrecognizable, crushed.
He'll court you like a normal person, he'll bring you your favorite flowers, and sometimes accessories, clothing. You'll ask what's the prices of these things, but he'll avoid the question smoothly by telling you the texture or what materials were used, to make it.
You'll just be more irked, but you're too annoyed to push the topic so you gladly accept the gifts, even though you think that you look greedy in his eyes.
He'll ask you out to lunch/dinner one time, he says that; "Food tastes good with company, don't you think so?" He's not wrong, after your sister's burial, your food seems to taste much more dull and boring, even though it tasted quite good.
If you accept, he'll be happy, of course. He's been waiting for you to come and dine with him at Xinyue Kiosk or at the Wanmin Restaurant since the first time he has laid his eyes on you.
This time Zhongli didn't forget his mora, the worker at the restaurant, was so shocked, they looked like they saw a ghost.
If you decline, that would only fuel his desire for you. Playing hard to get? He'll only get his resolve and desire stronger on making you his, and his only. The dragon keeps his treasure only to himself. Kidnapping you is his last resort, or tie you with him by a contract with you being unaware of it. But he’s a gentleman, he would never do something that’s not consented or unwillingly.
After lunch/dinner(if you accepted), he asks you if he could walk you home, you can handle yourself going home, but you somehow crave company, you complied. The walk on the way home was sluggish, yet it was relaxing, the lights of the lantern that's been hanging around Liyue, are definitely beautiful at dusk, it's a bit nostalgic, it's just how you and your sister walks through the streets of Inazuma once, after a delicious food you ate at Uyuu restaurant.
If he had won your heart and favor, you'll give him a peck on his cheeks or in his lips, then you quickly scurry off, embarrassed by what did you do, inside your home.
He'll stand there momentarily, the sides of his lips tugged upwards. He's getting into your heart, he's glad. Once he gets into your heart, he'll steal it, then take care of you, like a true treasure should. Maybe he'll mark you as his if you accept his feelings. Then he will continue to cherish you and keep you to himself, only.
No one can steal from the fearsome dragon.

Oh my god I just saw the writing in the first pic became a victim of my furious canvas flipping shdjnd AND ONE OF MY SCREENSHOTS DIDN'T UPLOAD DAMNIT. Guess I'll have to rb it in when I'm back home.
It just says still Xiu Ya!! I imagine the sword spirit would still take a liking to our feral A-jiu :) Doesn't mean SJ always uses it (it's kinda an obvious tell that it's him) but it's there! As for hcs...
I imagine as assassin's peak they'd teach their disciples all kind of weapons. Why stick to an obvious big ass sword when there are KNIVES and POISON and random ass items you can infuse with qi! This is the perfect enrichment for SJ who was already doing the leaves with qi thing and his street kid tactics. YHPL basically got a freely trained disciple, just need to refine the tactics and that kid will bring devastation upon the masses.
I so so agree with the take of feral SJ rights. Let the man be FERAL and unapologetic about it. He does not need to be a poser, he already fits right in with his environment- everyone's as unhinged as he is and the notion that he is a monster or irredeemable is not reinforced as much as it would be on QJP. I imagine it would bleed into his manners quite a lot, hence why I drew him slouching! He'd probably sit like that at peak lord meetings. Plus I imagine the YHPL could get closer to being a person SJ can rely on or at least trust to some degree - or at least I'd doubt it'd be his shizun's first time picking up a feral street kid.
Further on the previous YHPL - I imagine they WOULD be cheering SJ on in the matches against LQG, like "KICK HIS NUTS A-JIU" or something equally shamelessly unhinged. Their peak is about espionage and assassination, nobody gives a shit about honorable fights as long as the job gets done. Unfortunately for all the other peak lords, SJ picks up some of those habits.
YQY would also be quite delighted to see SJ flourishing I think. But also scared in a good way about openly feral SJ. But also he keeps suggesting to kill the OPM and honestly it's getting harder to talk him down from that idea.
I think all of this in general would probably lead to SJ having paradoxically better relationships with his fellow peak lords - except maybe for Liu Qingge who'd still fight him on the regular and go surprised pikachu whenever SJ would WIN a fight. Which I think would be possible here as there is a significant chance that despite his ruined meridians he develops less heart demons and the like. He may have a late start but I imagine the YHPL would not be against just working on his existing demonic cultivation properly - afterall both works just fine on that peak. He might still not be as good as he would be with proper starting age etc, but I still think he'd do better than in canon - he can just do what he does best after all and work on what's already there.
Svsss unfortunately does not offer much in terms of xianxia/wuxia world building on the cores and all, nor how bad a mix of demonic and "righteous" cultivation is. I recall faintly there being something with Binghe but it might be related to his demon blood. I think having SJ on a peak that would be open to demonic cultivation opens up quite a few ways of the xianxia worldbuilding paths to take and liberties. (Assuming Wu Yanzi DID teach him at least some demonic cultivation). You could say it is better for him to balance two different cores (demonic and spiritual for example) or you could do something like in Thousand Autumns where stuff doesn't mix - it's free real estate!!
Overall weapon wise he would be a jack of all trades. Anything is a lethal weapon in this man's hands. Anything. He has at least a dozen knives on him at all times. His hairpins are pointy and or have poison compartments. His fans look like regular fans until he opens them up. Darts in his sleeves and cuffs, you name it. Archery, musical assassination, talismans. They don't raise COWARDS on Yin Hui peak that only use swords. The YH Peak is probably not great for his paranoia issues but well. Naturally he'd have a focus on some weapons but technically you give this man a pencil and only one person is coming out of a given room alive.
The weimao I thought would be just neat! He doesn't have to pose too much for outsiders with the added benefit of outsiders never been quite sure who he actually is and what he looks like beyond official sect business robes. Would make sense for this to be a bit of a tradition on the peak, alongside other funky camouflage methods you can import from your favorite wuxias of choice. (Think skin mask from TYK or bone shrinking from Thousand Autumns)
And I have to point out your tags- it's too funny to leave there
This happens regularly at peak lord meetings I imagine. "Yes well. You REALIZE what my job is right??? Also we keep scheduling these so that I'm rushing back from jobs so you will just have to deal with this." He also probably weirdly encourages Mqf's fascination with curses and poisons and people aren't sure this is a good thing that these two get along so well due to this topic. (At least in my hc)
On a less serious note too, I do imagine he'd just prank any other peak lord that's pissing him off. He can't kill them but he sure as hell can slip in some cultivator bs laxatives or some such into their drinks to prove a point.
Anyway hoo boi this is becoming quite the unorganized rambling. I am high on ibuprofen and migraine again so forgive me.
A peak where SJ can be unapologetically feral and unhinged like we all know he itches to be? Fuck yeah. PL & disciple Yin Hui SJ
Thank you to this post for the inspiration. Have these quick sketches as I am traveling this weekend </3
#thank you sm for the kind words sjfnsnnfdjnfhf#the brainrot came directly from your post thank you for that <3

Prompt: what if jc was lxc's age (and jyl maybe 2 or 3 years older) and wwx was lwj's/nhs' age when he was brought to lotus pier? (Or anything that involves a much bigger age gap bw the jiang sibs and wwx - where wwx is babey)
Untamed
“You know what,” Jiang Cheng said to his sister, who looked at him. “I’ve changed my mind. I’m not marrying a woman.”
Jiang Yanli’s lips started twitching uncontrollably and she hid her smile behind her sleeve. “Oh?”
“Nope. I’m going to marry Chifeng-zun.”
“On the basis of…?”
“If you take two adult men in charge of two Great Sects,” Jiang Cheng said, doing his utmost best to keep a straight face, “with all the power we can generate between us, we might – maybe – have a chance at disciplining our baby brothers.”
Jiang Yanli burst out laughing.
“There, there. It’s all right,” he said, grinning, reaching out to pat her on the shoulder. “You can join us if you’d like. There’s enough room in Qinghe for two wives.”
“We are not both running away to Qinghe,” she said, giggling. “A-Cheng!”
“What? I think it’s a great idea. If our parents want us back, they can negotiate with Chifeng-zun for it – may they have more luck than they had with the whole medicinal herb debacle.”
“A-Cheng, I am officially tabling this idea,” Jiang Yanli said, still snorting. “Older sibling privilege.”
“I let you out of the womb first as a matter of courtesy,” Jiang Cheng sniffed. “And now you use it against me? A-Li, how could you?”
“Call me jiejie! It doesn’t matter how much older, a few shichen or a few years, older is still older.”
“You probably elbowed me with those sharp pointy things you have on your arms. Weapons of war.”
“Older is older!” she sang. “Now tell me, what did A-Xian do this time?”
“Would you like it in chronological order, or in order of severity? I can also group it by theme, if you prefer.”
“Oh no,” Jiang Yanli said, covering her eyes. “Oh no.”
“And the chief-most theme,” Jiang Cheng said, continuing anyway, “is still called Lan Wangji.”
“Oh no!”
“He has the worst crush,” Jiang Cheng said, shaking his head with endless amusement. “And he just – refuses to admit it. ‘Nooooo, shixiong, we’re just friends, he can’t even stand me most of the time, he’s always trying to get me in trouble, but sometimes he lets me sit next to him and spend time with him and he’s so handsome and I really just want to make him laugh –’”
“We have,” Jiang Yanli said thoughtfully, “raised an idiot.”
“He was fine when we got him,” Jiang Cheng disagreed. “We have spoiled an idiot.”
“This is true. Maybe we should go form a mutual complaining society with Chifeng-zun; isn’t his little brother also an idiot?”
“Oh, you have no idea,” Jiang Cheng said. “Worse: they’ve teamed up. Nie Huaisang buys Wei Wuxian porn now.”
“Oh no…”
“In return for help cheating on his tests!”
“Oh no!”
“So that’s why I’m going to marry Chifeng-zun,” Jiang Cheng concluded. “Our parents may be disappointed by my decision, but with our powers combined, we might be able to save the world from our respective younger idiots.”
“Maybe,” she said, and shook her head. “A-Cheng – about our parents…”
Jiang Cheng shook his head as well, echoing her action but more in denial. It wasn’t anyone’s fault that she took after their father and he took after their mother, that she was born a shichen prior to midnight and he a shichen after and their personalities completely different as a result; it was no one’s fault that their parents didn’t get along, with their mother disdaining what she perceived as Jiang Yanli’s passiveness and lack of passion and their father despising Jiang Cheng’ prickly temper and difficulty communicating his affection without scolding.
It certainly wasn’t Wei Wuxian’s fault for being younger and more brilliant, talented at everything he did and with just the sort of personality their father liked best – the combination of his former best friend and the girl he’d once thought of marrying – and that he’d always made that preference very clear to everyone, even to their mother who often worried that her husband would dispossess her children in favor of his foundling and who lashed out at everyone in response.
That had hurt – hurt a lot, even, and Jiang Cheng was soft and sensitive underneath all his defensive layers, but any time he got angry over it he would look at Wei Wuxian, their little A-Xian, baby Xianxian, who adored his older siblings more than anything and was adored in return, and he forced himself to get over it. He was old enough, by the time Wei Wuxian arrived, to know to whom the blame really belonged.
“I spoke with Nie Huaisang while I was at the Cloud Recesses,” Jiang Cheng said in an undertone, one reserved just for his sister. “He’s asked me to pass along a message to his brother, the next time I go night-hunting, about the whole debacle – he’s so terribly apologetic, you understand, he couldn’t wait for the post – if we get to Qinghe by tomorrow, Chifeng-zun will be able to get to Gusu in time to intervene before our father does something wretched like cancel your engagement and take A-Xian home early from his studies.”
“The engagement I wouldn’t mind,” she remarked. “If Jin Zixuan feels so strongly about it that he’d get into a fistfight with A-Xian, it’s better not to marry, no matter what our mother might think. But on no account is A-Xian to be sent home early! He needs his education!”
Unsaid was everything else he needed, things he could get better at the Cloud Recesses than anywhere else.
“Then we go?”
“We go,” she agreed. Between the two of them, Jiang Cheng had more talent at cultivation, but she was steadier, even in her overall mediocrity: when the two of them flew on a sword together, they could make it much further and faster than anyone expected.
Qinghe wasn’t really close enough for a quick jaunt – they flew all night without stopping – but Chifeng-zun was amendable to their scheme, jumping at once onto his saber and making his way straight to Gusu. A waste of spiritual energy all around, really, but far faster than their father would move, with his Sect Leader’s dignity and retinue, rushing to the Cloud Recesses to save his precious little Wei Wuxian from having any connections in life that weren’t to the Jiang sect, and the Jiang sect alone.
And never mind how much he needed those connections: needed to have friends his own age, needed to have more time with that crush of his, needed independence and freedom and everything the Jiang sect supposedly stood for - needed for them to support him and act as the foundation beneath his feet, rather than the chains tying him down to earth.
Chifeng-zun – who was only a few years older than they were – was really a very understanding person, getting the problem at once and immediately agreeing with their view on things. Perhaps there really was something to be said about the difference in generations…
“Let me show you to rooms where you can rest,” Chifeng-zun’s aide said, a slender young man with a polite smile on his face as he saluted. “I’ll arrange for refreshments as well.”
“We hate to trouble you, but in all honesty you are a lifesaver,” Jiang Yanli said to him warmly, and he unexpectedly flushed red at the cheeks. “A-Cheng, let’s follow this handsome young man and rest a while before we return to the Lotus Pier.”
The young man was blushing.
“What’s your name?” Jiang Cheng asked, and the blush faded away at once as the man paled a little: it would be one he expected them to recognize, then, and not in a good way.
“This one is Meng Yao,” he said, and saluted again even though he’d already saluted once before, and Jiang Yanli’s eyes flickered to Jiang Cheng’s very briefly before she caught his arms and raised him up.
“I’ve heard of you. Smart and talented enough to get Chifeng-zun’s attention, even so far as becoming his personal deputy - you must be brilliant. Truly, you deserve a better father,” she told him, and he stared up at her, dumbstruck.
“Don’t mind her,” Jiang Cheng said. “She’s trying out this new thing in which she says everything she feels without thinking first.”
She elbowed him. “And isn’t it your fault?” she asked snappishly. “You’re the one who needs to speak your mind more; I’m just modeling good behavior!”
If she’d been older than him – really older, rather than just a few shichen – maybe she would have held her tongue more and played the role of the peacekeeper, trying to protect him from his father’s indifference the way she had tried to when they were both younger, just as he had tried to distract his mother from her with his hard-fought accomplishments. It wasn’t until they had little Wei Wuxian to spoil and care for, a joint task that required both of their attention, that they realized that splitting their forces like that was pointless and self-defeating: it wasn’t actually helping that Jiang Yanli suppressed so much of her spirit until she felt like little more than a reflective mirror with no content, nor that Jiang Cheng nearly worked himself to death trying to prove that he was worthy of his father’s love and respect that he would never receive, and it never would.
So they stopped.
They were trying very hard to stop, anyway.
“You’re very kind,” Meng Yao murmured, and led them to their rooms.
The moment he closed the door behind him, Jiang Yanli turned to Jiang Cheng and said, “I’ve changed my mind about your plan – we can run away to Qinghe. You marry Chifeng-zun, and I’ll marry that charming boy out there.”
There was an audible thudding sound from the corridor outside, as if someone had accidentally walked into a wall, and they both grinned at each other.
“Mother would kill you,” he warned her in an undertone.
“And being married to someone who disdains me enough to fight over my worthlessness in public wouldn’t?” she retorted, smiling even though her expression was tinged with pain: if she had one ambition in life, it was to never become their mother. “The marriage agreement might have been forged by our mothers, but the text of it says ‘the Jin sect leader’s son to the Jiang sect leader’s daughter’. Why can’t I marry him?”
“He hasn’t been acknowledged.”
“Only technically. Everyone knows he’s the real deal, or else his father wouldn’t have made such a fuss about it.”
“But –”
“Anyway, he must be a good man, or Chifeng-zun wouldn’t have promoted him.”
“I don’t know about that,” Jiang Cheng said. “Chifeng-zun doesn’t have the sense of self-preservation the heavens bestowed on a lemming.”
There was a vaguely audible snort from outside their door. It seemed Meng Yao, at least, had the good sense not to leave guests in his house unattended, and no discrimination against the very useful business of listening at doors.
He also had a sense of humor, which was good given Jiang Yanli’s newfound ambitions in his regard.
“Yes, well, I wasn’t saying I’d elope with him tomorrow or anything,” she sniffed, eyes dancing. “Give him some time to prove himself to me.”
Jiang Cheng couldn’t help but smile back. “That’s true,” he said, raising his voice a little. “At Chifeng-zun’s side, he’ll be able to make a name for himself until the whispers all say that his father was an idiot for keeping him away.”
“And if even that doesn’t work, I’ll marry him in and make him help me run the Jiang sect,” she said cheerfully. “Who needs Lanling Jin?”
“Wait, since when are you inheriting the Jiang sect?”
“I’m older! And anyway, aren’t you marrying Chifeng-zun? That means you’ll be away helping run his sect, and that leaves an opening at home for me.”
“…huh. Good point.”
“Maybe you can just swap places with Meng Yao,” she said, starting to giggle again. “And we can all see how long it takes anyone to notice…”
“Our parents might not,” Jiang Cheng said dryly. “But Chifeng-zun would. If only because I have my sights set on his bed, and I don’t think Meng Yao does.”
“You don’t know that; everyone wants Chifeng-zun. Maybe you have competition.”
“Better to have competition than be oblivious. Do you want to hear the whole story about A-Xian and Lan Wangji’s tragic mutual pining disaster? Xichen-xiong told me all the details he’s been leaving out of his letters.”
“Tell me everything!”

I'm sorry this feels real weird, but I love PINTWILF a lot, and the fact that you really expanded on SQH's role and everything. And I really loved that you added the other unnamed peaks and melded them in, everything that you wrote about the peaks actually really fleshed them out and their roles. So what did you name the three other peaks, and what are their roles? I think I only really understand that Xi Jiao is an animal/beast peak?
It’s not weird! I’m quite pleased with the sect logistics I’ve been writing in PINTWILF (from a humor angle, not a realism angle) and so I’m happy to talk about it. This is the order of peaks I’ve been using in PINTWILF:
(1) Qiong Ding Peak - Peak Lord: Yue Qingyuan (Canon)
Apparently they’re responsible for general affairs. I’ve always assumed they’re also responsible for dealing with other sects and politics, outside of peak-specific specialties where another peak lord has the authority to represent the sect.
(2) Qing Jing Peak - Peak Lord: Shen Qingqiu (Canon)
Peak of scholars and strategists. I assumed from there that they would also be responsible for a lot of library and archive-related duties, and that they would have some talisman and seal experts, etc., and that QJ and QD would be closely tied in many matters.
(3) Wan Jian Peak - Peak Lord: Wei Qingwei (Canon)
Peak of sword masters. I assumed that this meant both martial weapon specialists and sword smiths. I also assumed that this could be expanded to many kinds of metal work. Where WJ and AD meet is probably where a lot of non-weapon-related fabrication happens.
(4) An Ding Peak - Peak Lord: Shang Qinghua (Canon, minus #?)
I’ve seen people put An Ding anywhere from 4th to 12th. I’m not sure that An Ding has a canonical number. I prefer An Ding being 4th because of 1) how closely Qiong Ding and An Ding’s work would be tied and the importance of logistics, but 2) mainly how funny I think it is if SQH is only three murders away from being the sect leader.
SQH: “Wei Qingwei, you cannot die. The chances of Shen Qingqiu and Yue Qingyuan offing each other is too high for you to die on me. YOU’RE MY LAST LINE OF DEFENSE. DON’T MAKE ME BE SECT LEADER.”
(5) Xian Shu Peak - Peak Lord: Qi Qingqi (Canon)
It’s unclear what specialties XS has, probably because it only existed in PIDW as the “hot lady peak” (and MXTX never actually expanded it post-transmigration). It’s never come up, but I kind of dig the idea of XS doing some textiles work, anything from weaving fine fabrics to rope-making. (Who makes stuff like Immortal Binding Cables? It could be Xian Shu.)
(6) Xi Jiao Peak - Peak Lord: Tang Qingling (Non-Canon)
Yes, this is an animal/beast peak, because I’ve seen it brought up in a few fics, and I thought it would be funny for SY to be entranced by the idea, only for SQH to go, “Bro, I hope you have the stomach for blood and literal shit, because that’s where they butcher monsters for parts and collect crap for fertilizer.”
I also like the idea of Cang Qiong Mountain Sect having actual pipelines based on the specialties, which make it a very profitable and efficient sect. (Also, where are they getting their food? Do they have livestock? Do they buy it all from the surrounding towns and cities? Xi Jiao is me deciding that, yes, they have livestock.) Liu Qingge brings in a monster, it goes to Xi Jiao, then the parts go out again to Wan Jian, Qian Cao, Zui Xian, and others. to become armor, medicine, potions, etc.. Or maybe just to An Ding to sell.
(7) Bai Zhan Peak - Peak Lord: Liu Qingge (Canon)
They make people who fight good.
(8) Qian Cao Peak - Peak Lord: Mu Qingfang (Canon)
Trains healers and makes medicine. I assumed that they would grow as many of their own plants as they could and do a lot of plant breeding. Medicine could also be a great source of income for the sect (another reason why QC is one of Shang Qinghua’s favorite peaks).
(9) Ku Xing Peak - Peak Lord: Wang Qingjie (Canon, minus # and peak lord)
The peak name is canon, but I can’t remember if they have a canonical number and they don’t have a canonical peak lord. They’re all all-male peak with an ascetic lifestyle, living akin to monks.
I think I decided that they specialized in talismans and the creation of other spiritual tools, including and as well as ceramics. So, they work closely with many of the other peaks, but especially An Ding in supplying other peaks. I can’t remember why I decided this. I think maybe I decided that Ku Xing might have a philosophy that “to create purifying objects, the maker must also be free from impurities”? Hence the ascetic lifestyle.
I also thought it would be funny if Ku Xing and Qing Jing had a little bit of a rivalry going on. Shen Qingqiu makes very good talismans and Wang Qingjie is NOT angry about it (in the way of someone trying not to be angry).
(10) Zui Xian Peak - Peak Lord: Zhang Qingyan (Canon, minus # and peak lord)
Again, the peak name is canon, but I can’t remember if they have a canonical number and they don’t have a canonical peak lord. This is the peak that apparently specializes in alcohol.
So, I decided that they might as well be responsible for brewing other potions and solutions. Maybe they have people who specialize in alchemy. Qian Cao and Wan Jian and Xi Jiao (and nearly every other peak) probably do their own brewing of certain things, but it probably helps to have someone else dedicated to brewing on a large scale. Qian Cao grows the plants for a common medicine, then ships them to Zui Xian for mass-production, and the An Ding takes the result and sells it to all the nearby towns and cities.
Zui Xian probably saves and makes Cang Qiong so much money.
(11) Long Sheng Peak - Peak Lord: ??? (Non-Canon)
This is a newer invention and I haven’t come up with a peak lord yet, but they’re named after “The Dragon’s Backbone” and they specialize in plants and agriculture. This is my “this is how the sect gets fed” peak, alongside Xi Jiao.
Maybe they don’t grow all the sect’s food themselves, but they support and work with the surrounding towns and cities to make sure that the local harvests survive all of PIDW’s horrible plants and monsters. Sometimes you need cultivators who can tell you why this year’s harvest is haunted and what to do about it! Maybe Airplane invented the equivalent of magical locust swarms and didn’t think twice about it, so someone has to deal with that! Maybe they grow the materials for Xian Shu’s textiles work!
They work closely with Xi Jiao, Qian Cao, Zui Xian, and An Ding.
(12) ???
I haven’t actually named the last peak. I haven’t really seen a need to invent one yet and it’s kind of been a in-joke with myself. It’s fun to imagine people being like, “Cang Qiong has twelve peaks, right? What’s that last one called again? I can never remember what that last peak is called.”
Notes:
I imagine that most of the peaks’ specialties overlap in one way or another. An Ding, Zui Xian, Qian Cao, and Long Sheng each do some agricultural stuff, but Qian Cao and Long Sheng (especially LS) do most of it. And so on.
Cang Qiong Mountain Sect also doesn’t have to do everything in-house. Shang Qinghua also has to make orders from other sects and merchants for stuff that Cang Qiong either can’t make or don’t have the space/time to make. I just like the idea that CQ is so powerful partly because they’re so independent.
If I keep the details loose, I can get a lot of fun humor out of it.

There actually are enough good fics about postcanon tentative reforging of assorted pairs and even the whole of the Gusu Summer School No Brain Cell Trio to satisfy my niche itch, so pls enjoy these stray snippets of a fic I don't have to write:
Nothing would've happened if the cultivation conference wasn't at Cloud Recesses. But it was, Cloud Recesses with its pale stone and gracefully winding walkways and too many memories, including Lan Xichen sitting the whole thing out in seclusion somewhere... If it'd been at the Unclean Realm, Nie Huaisang would've been busy and if it'd been at Carp Tower the memories only would've been manageably bad, and if it was Lotus Pier or one of many smaller sects, it would've been...fine. Just fine.
But it was Cloud Recesses this year, this first conference since Jin Guangyao's downfall, and specifically it was half past ten at night, and Nie Huaisang was wandering the elegant pathways with a mostly full jar of wine in one hand. The previous jar, now entirely empty, had been left back in his room. He was a Nie, so he was only half as drunk as he'd always used to pretend at these things - but at least twice as drunk as he'd ever actually been.
After da-ge's death, of course. Before that, he used to get plenty drunk. Playfully drunk. With friends.
It would be a terrible idea for him to go appear on Lan Xichen's doorstep. Neither of them was ready for that yet.
So he appeared on Jiang Cheng's.
[ . . . ]
"Fine." Nie Huaisang pouted and turned. "I'll go ask Wei-xiong - "
And Jiang Cheng was easy, he was so easy, he'd always been easy, the only new thing is the faintest edge of wariness to his fury -
He grabbed Nie Huaisang's elbow in a flash and snapped, "Ugh, fine, I'll go - but I'm holding the wine."
Nie Huaisang laughed and handed it over. Jiang Cheng immediately took a deep swig.
[ . . . ]
It must've been a quiet night at the Jingshi. Wei Wuxian's sleeping robes didn't look the least bit hastily pulled on, and his lips were only the slightest bit red and puffy.
[ . . . ]
[for the record, this takes place in a book-show postcanon fusion wherein immediately post-Guanyin Temple, WWX and LWJ ran off to fuck in the bushes at least once a day for as long as possible, but in their absence, various sect leaders voted that Lan Wangji should be Chief Cultivator now, and alas some messenger caught up with them about six months into their honeymoon. Definitely caught them in flagrante delicto. Tragic for all. I’d probably communicate all this hereish somehow. It was definitely NHS who finally tipped someone off on how to actually find them.]
[ . . . ]
"Yes, yes, I'm coming," Wei Wuxian said, with a lidded look at Nie Huaisang, and Nie Huaisang burst into a giggles because the two most unequivocally lethal people he knew were afraid to leave each other alone with him, and it was satisfying to be recognized but also what's he going to do, personally? Cry at them? It'd taken him years to destroy Jin Guangyao, and at this point it'd take him months, if not years again to re-destroy the Yiling Patriarch, much less Sandu Shengshou. Especially when they both kept doing things like watching each others backs while pretending they weren't.
[ . . . ]
"Of course we need more!" Wei Wuxian declared. "This isn't even Emperor's Smile!"
[ . . . ]
"It's just a rat or something," Jiang Cheng scoffed.
"So?!" Wei Wuxian cried grandly. "Are we not noble cultivators? Is it not our duty to investigate this woman's complaint, and to slay whatever monster plagues her good inn’s wonderful cellar, whether deathly or monstrous or rodential it be?" He turned to Nie Huaisang and begged, "Help me out, Nie-xiong. You agree with me, right?"
Nie Huaisang clutched his cup against his chest, eyes wide, and shook his head in sharp jerks. "I don't know! I don't know!"
Wei Wuxian laughed and elbowed him in the side.
[ . . . ]
[while waiting for Wei Wuxian to send some sort of signal]
"You know I don't bear any grudge against Jin Ling, right?"
Jiang Cheng's impatient glare snapped to him, darkening with threat; his hand shifted on Sandu's hilt toward a drawing position. "What?"
"I don't bear any sort of grudge against Jin Ling," Nie Huaisang repeated, holding only the last jar of Emperor's Smile. "That's why you've been side-eyeing me all night, right? All conference." He took another sip (it really was the best!) and added recklessly, "If I wanted Jin Ling dead and disgraced, or all Carp Tower burned to ash, they already would be."
Sandu slid an inch out of its scabbard and Nie Huaisang watch it with fascinated curiosity. From a greater distance, he wondered if that was entirely healthy.
"What about Lotus Pier?" Jiang Cheng asked abruptly.
It took Nie Huaisang a blinking moment to focus on him.
"What about Lotus Pier?"
Jiang Cheng sat beside him on the cold earth and yanked the jar out of his hands, cruelly before Nie Huaisang could take another sip.
"Where's your grand terrible vengeance against me and mine? I get it, but if you're being honest for once right now, you could at least tell me when it's going to hit, and how."
"What?" Nie Huaisang pushed himself against his tree trunk, genuinely confused. "Why would i have a terrible vengeance planned against you?"
"I benefitted from Nie Mingjue's death, didn't I?" Jiang Cheng took another swig of wine of his own, and swung the jar illustratively. "My disciples have hunted in your territory while you 'weren't paying attention.' I absolutely fleeced you in that trade deal four years ago. And I worked with that bastard as much as anyone but Lan Xichen, especially on those damn watchtowers, and you broke him. So when's it my turn?" He pointed at Nie Huaisang, finger only wavering slightly. “If you fuck with Jin Ling, Wei Wuxian, or my sect, I will fuck you back.”
"You- oh, gimme that. Gimme. Gimme!" Nie Huaisang leaned forward and tried to grab the wine jar, and more importantly whined until Jiang Cheng handed it to him.
He stared at it for a moment, thrust it back and ordered, “Drink,” without letting it go, and once Jiang Cheng had dutifully tilted it back, pulled it back and slugged down the last swallows. He needed more alcohol for this much honesty, and so did Jiang Cheng.
He set the jar down very carefully, because the ground seemed to be moving, and leaned forward with even more care. He enunciated clearly, “Everyone fleeced me, and hunted in my territory, and I acsh- ass- let them. Why would I expect you to go looking for trouble with Jin Guangyao, when he had your heart locked in a box in his treasure room?”
Jiang Cheng, who was a respected master of all five arts but probably hadn’t actually read poetry for fun since an instructor had officially declared him as such, and who was himself at least a full wine jar in, squinted in angry confusion.
Nie Huaisang rolled his eyes. “He had final say over where and how Jin Ling spent his time, and could’ve tried to poison him against you. What would you have even have done if I had come complaining?”
Jiang Cheng’s face only fell further, with the very sort of drunken moroseness Nie Huaisang was out here to avoid.
Nie Huaisang attempted to swap him sharply. He failed on both the swap and the sharpness.
“Stoppit! Stop thinking you’re not useful! You weren’t! I needed to pry er-ge away from him and for that only Lan Wangji would work, and I needed someone to watch his back through thick and deadly thin, and to be so disruptive that even Meng Yao couldn’t...circle, sneaky, planning...”
They were waiting for the pulse of a light talisman from the other tunnel entrance, half a mile away. There was a small but very bright explosion. laced with resentful as well as spiritual energy.
“Motherfucker!” Jiang Cheng cursed, leaping to his feet and drawing Sandu in one hideously coordinated motion.
“Just Lan Wangji, I think,” Nie Huaisang said, because Nie Mingjue himself couldn’t have stopped him. He groped for his own weapons - fan, check; wine jar -
“Oh no!”
“What?” Jiang Cheng snapped, as he bent and dragged Nie Huaisang to his feet with one hand. (Hideously coordinated. Sword people, honestly...)
“He’s going to be so mad that we finished the wine without him!”
[ . . . ]
[three grown-ass men, two sect leaders and one Yiling Patriarch, flying at high speed through Caiyi Town on one sword, all screaming. Nie Huaisang is clinging to Wei Wuxian; Wei Wuxian is flinging to Jiang Cheng, a little bit to Nie Huaisang, and most importantly to a chicken, Jiang Cheng is flying the sword. There is a bedsheet draped over all of them from where they ran into a laundry line. It’s 2am. Again I say, all are screaming]
[ . . . ]
[it probably wasn’t a rat - not just one, at least. Wei Wuxian does something incredibly clever, possibly including a creative use of that bedsheet; Jiang Cheng singlehandedly defeats something in combat, probably after he and Wei Wuxian shove each other out of the way of blows without either of them acknowledging it. Nie Huaisang shoves them both under cover and then with perfect professionalism tells whoever came to check on the ruckus that they handled the problem exactly as planned with absolutely no involvement of alcohol, and the Chief Cultivator will foot the bill for the unfortunately absolutely necessary property damage. Overall, they did handle the problem, but the local cryptid they were chasing will only have its reputation swelled and its continued existence assumed by all locals. it is possible that they themselves made this cryptid up two decades ago, but idk how heavy-handed we want to be.]
[ . . . ]
Nie Huaisang was leaning heavily on Wei Wuxian by the time they got back to the guest quarters. He could hold his alcohol, he was a goddamn Nie, and frankly he’d had it adrenalined out of him at least twice this evening. But he’d also had rather a lot, and he didn’t have Jiang Cheng’s golden core or Wei Wuxian’s blithe lack of sleep schedule.
“I missed this,” he admitted, head on Wei Wuxian’s (Mo Xuanyu’s) shoulder while Jiang Cheng opened the door.
Wei Wuxian leaned his head on Nie Huaisang’s. “Me too.”
“You’re both fucking annoying,” Jiang Cheng grouched, which meant, Me too.
Wei Wuxian stripped off Nie Huaisang’s muddy outer robe and tucked him into bed, and Jiang Cheng poured a glass of water from the pitcher by the door, drank it, poured another, scowled at Wei Wuxian for a moment, and set it on the bedside table. Wei Wuxian glanced at him out of the corner of his eye, finished with Nie Huaisang and started backing out of the room.
Nie Huaisang sat up more or less abruptly. “Both of you have got to stop that bullshit. I miss my brothers, okay? I’d I had a second chance...” He sagged back down with the plural, and flung an arm over his damp eyes. There was a glimmer in the sky; it’d be morning by Lan standards soon. “I fucking miss them.”
“...Ah,” said Wei Wuxian, who always spoke even when he didn’t know what to say.
“Yeah,” Jiang Cheng said abruptly, and, “Drink your fucking water.” And the door slammed behind him as he walked out.
[...a few lines of dialogue later...]
“Seriously, you can go.” Nie Huaisang flicked a few tired fingers in dismissal.
“Are you sure?” Wei Wuxian added with an audible smirk, “Because if I stay up for another half hour, I can wake Lan Zhan with a morning...big ol’...loving...”
Nie Huaisang finally adjusted his arm to crack one eye up at him.
“People usually cut me off before I get that far,” Wei Wuxian admitted.
[ . . . a bit more dialogue and the end.]

Guess I am legally obliged to yap now. Just so y'all know my Godwoken function on a shit ton of lore headcanons (and they have their own fanfic) so I'll try to explain this and not weird you out to the best of my ability.
[art by _itsmegara] Who are they? (in bg3 character creation voice)
Elane is not sure who she is herself. Hunted down by her kin for as long as she could remember, then taken by a couple of human nobles, her whole life was marked by a dreadful sense of not quite belonging. But since then she's been civilised and raised in a little dreary town in Lower Stormdale. She was more than happy to settle down, running her parents' estate until the Magisters came. And they came asking questions.
[art by DragonsAria] What is their damage?
Learning the 'kill or be killed' mantra the hard way ever since you first opened your eyes to the cold, ruthless world around can be quite scarring. Oddly enough, Elane's body is resistant to all kinds of permanent physical damage. Her psyche tho? It's an ongoing, ravaged battlefield. Every little thing chips away at her carefully cultivated image of a sensible and collected woman. The beast underneath lies dormant, placated by the sense of safety in a controlled environment. Once the chains of comfort are stripped away,however...
[art by Ace.Vermillion] What do they look like?
Elane is shorter than most elves, standing at around 2,35 m. Her complexion is perpetually pale, unable to catch any sunkissed shade. Her black hair is slick and touches the ground. There's always one shorter strand hanging over her face, pulled out of her updo, but its' length varies, depending on the time of day. Similarly, eyes are either dull black or glowing silver depending on the phase of the moon. It's just an elf thing, really.
Are there any differences between their in-game model and how you imagine them?
It's mostly the hair. Plus Elane NEVER wears any elven clothing, even if the alternative means going around naked! Throughout her story she scavenged for human clothing, putting up with the ill fit.
[art by thedreamingqueen] What is their fighting style?
Savage, rapid, bloodthirsty. The force of the swing pulls the entire weight of your body forward after your blade. You soar through the carnage, headless of exposing yourself to the potential blows. When they come, grab the blade buried in your flesh and hold it, thrusting the point of your sword blindly, repeatedly, till the other end of the weapon embedded in your guts hits the floor. Their blood rejuvenates you, this can go on for hours.
Elane is a Necro/Warfare physical damage dealer who dabbles in Hydro to cast Blood Rain and Storm. She favours two-handed swords. She also makes sure her party keeps standing, be it through her own blood, or the enemies'. Her favourite Source skill is Summon Inner Demon. Her own Source skill would be 'Bloodlink'. Same idea as Guardian Angel, only that the damage reflected is 80% and it heals all linked allies an equal amount.
[art by lex] Who do they love and why?
The simplest answer would be that Elane loves her parents the most, despite them being dearly deceased for over a decade now. They shaped who she is and she honours their memory by acting the part that would make them proud. However, that fundamentally is an illusion. The truth is, Elane only loves herself, a wicked kind of affection that stuck to her when she was forced to fend for herself deep in the Elven Forests. She was alone for so long that by force, she became her only and best friend. She could only trust herself and only she knows the secrets that her body hides. The irony is that the desire to know, a drive Elane tragically suffers from, is the easiest way to melt the pretty, stoic facade she's built around herself. Because she desperately wants to know what she is. Who she is. And who would aid her search for answers better than a scholar asking himself the same questions? Fane needs Elane, as she not only knows the world better, she can also strongarm her way out of any situation. She's more than willing to put herself between him and danger just to preserve his brilliant intellect that may explain the intricacies of her affliction, given enough leads. Elane needs Fane because he is so much like her. Strange, timeless, unfitting of everything and everyone she knows. She knows he yearns to know and she's willing to tolerate his unpleasant company for getting to the bottom of things. This very transactional relationship slowly bubbles into something sincere if addicting, once the mystery slowly unveils.
[art by DragonsAria, sketch of Elane's human parents] Anything else you'd like to share about them?
Elane's a great cook AND a picky eater. Though, not the way you think. She can eat meat just fine without getting the elven memory flashbacks. She can still do the memory reading, as long as the meat's bloody, but she doesn't like the act one bit. She picked her birthday to be on the 12th of Fengali Her instrument is the cello. I based her whole playlist around strings...

Restless Rewatch: The Untamed Episode 10 second part
(Masterpost) (Other Canary Meta)
Warning: Spoilers for All 50 Episodes!
Unclean Realm
Lan Wangji has a Louis Henry Sullivan moment on seeing the Nie family home, becoming enraptured by its overwrought monumental architecture after a lifetime of restrained good taste and single-story buildings.
He approaches the fortress with the expression of delighted wonder that he usually reserves for when he’s looking at the moon or at Wei Wuxian.
Wei Wuxian is like, yep that’s a building, all right, but he supports Lan Wangji’s kinks.
Meng Yao tells them about the Wen Clan directive, and has what appears to be a moment of genuine, affectionate amusement at Nie Huaisang’s reaction.
Jiang Cheng kinda blames the Lans for inventing the whole “indoctrination” thing and for encouraging his brother’s disaster bi tendencies. Wei Wuxian responds by complimenting the Lan Clan, almost like someone who met his true love got some real value out of the instruction he received there.
(more after the cut)
One of the great ironies of this story is that Wei Wuxian sort of becomes a rogue Lan disciple because of his relationship with Lan Wangji. He relies on Lan temperament techniques, uses music as a primary cultivation method, has committed all of the Lan rules to his supposedly terrible memory and cites them on multiple occasions, and is an important mentor for the younger generation Lan disciples. Because Hanguang-Jun is just that good in bed.
Xue Yang in the background of this conversation is channeling OP’s church-enduring, school-enduring inner 10-year-old.
Nie Mingjue, Chifeng-Zun, appears, and couldn’t be more different than his brother. On first watching this episode, I saw him as a grumpy, sexy, very emotional leather daddy man who is quick to anger. Rewatching, I see someone who’s struggling with a growing illness...the resentful energy kind.
Nie Mingjue’s handling of resentful energy is very different from Wei Wuxian’s straightforward interest and acceptance. NMJ has a traditional cultivator’s view of it, regarding it as evil and as something to resist, while he is literally carrying it on his back. He’s like a secret alcoholic who is preaching temperence, and can’t find a way to be reconciled with himself.
At this point of the story, Nie Mingjue is keeping it together, but is under a hell of a lot of stress, and Baxia’s blood thirst is already maybe a problem.
The Yunmeng bros think that Nie Huaisang’s fear of his brother is hilarious, because they don’t understand the situation. They think he’s just living in a hideously toxic family dynamic like theirs, when actually he’s in a loving, sorta healthy, if parentless, family that is being crushed under a generational curse.
Compliments for the Yunmeng Bros
I’m not the first meta poster to notice how happy Jiang Cheng is to be praised by Nie Mingjue.
He never gets this at home. Jiang Yanli praises him, but in that watery “you tried your best” way that doesn’t really stick. Nie Mingjue’s praise really means something, because he is a fearsome warrior and stern authority figure. And this is a double compliment, because Nie Mingjue says he heard it from Lan Xichen, and agrees with it.
Let’s Make Terrible Decisions
Keep Xue Yang alive, says Wei Wuxian, and Meng Yao immediately agrees, although I’m pretty sure he would have proposed that even if WWX hadn’t.
So they do, not realizing that “kill him later” is never a good plan for someone who 1. super needs killing 2. has a whole lot of death-dealing skills.
Future clan leader Jiang Cheng notices how smart and talented Meng Yao is. Xue Yang finds it hilarious when the trio praises Meng Yao, possibly because their evil team up is already underway.
Boss’ Bed Warmer Son of a Ho
The constant insults toward Meng Yao are about his mom, but there’s another level of leering implication, that Meng Yao seems to encourage in his conversation with the soon-to-be-murdered guard captain.
Nie Mingjue elevated him way above his expectations, and he is ridiculously pretty, which has to create rumors. In the Nightless City scenes when he’s fondling Baxia and telling Nie Mingjue’s family secrets there’s definitely a sense of intimacy that’s not just “loyal retainer.”
I feel like maybe this whole exchange is a bit of theater designed to show Xue Yang something without showing it to anyone else. Meng Yao didn’t need to have this conversation in front of his prisoner.
Let’s Do Exactly What We Said We Wouldn’t
Once the younger quartet are alone with Nie Mingjue, Wei Wuxian crosses the room away from his friends and practically into Lan Wangji’s pocket, if Lan Wangji had pockets.
He has no pockets and also has no personal bubble any more, when it comes to Wei Wuxian.
We could make a weapon out of Yin Iron, Wei Wuxian says, completely forgetting his entire conversation with Lan Yi, apparently. Lan Wangji doesn’t argue with this idea.
Nie Mingjue warns Wei Wuxian not to try it.
I stabbed a man in Qinghe just to watch him die
Nie Mingjue is like the Johnny Cash of the cultivation world, carrying the weight of his poor choices and trying to steer the young folk to the path of righteousness. But--like Johnny Cash--his bad choices have made him really fucking cool, so he isn’t very good at deterring anybody.
Meng Yao Didn’t Come Here to Make Friends
Immediately after Meng Yao’s fellow Nie clan people call him “son of a whore” again, Wei Wuxian meets him, is nice to him, addresses him by his military title, bows to him, asks why he’s away from the party, and thanks him for his service.
But Meng Yao has already decided to make friends with Xue Yang, so Wei Wuxian goes onto his list of people that he doesn’t give a crap about except if they can be useful to him. Then Meng Yao goes to make out hatch a plot with Xue Yang.
I’ll Sleep On Your Roof
Meeting SongXiao seems to have done away with the last of Lan Wangji’s resistance to his connection with Wei Wuxian.
He hears a noise on the roof and, when realizing it’s Wei Wuxian, he smiles one of his tiny reserved smiles before heading outside.
When he sees Wei Wuxian drunkenly sprawled on the roof, limbs akimbo, wine on his chin and neck, mouth full of poetry about the open road, Lan Wangji gives him the most fond look imaginable.
Then he reluctantly leaves, with his signature “say goodbye, but only when he can’t hear you” thing.
They’ve both come a really long way since their first meeting. Wei Wuxian is openly and vocally attaching himself to Lan Wangji...but is not actually entering his space or asking for anything from him; he just wants to be near him, and wants to let him know that. “I’ll sleep on your roof tonight.”
And Lan Wangji just...loves him. Wei Wuxian is drunk, embarrassing, demonstrative, eager to make a hell weapon out of yin iron, touchy feely, and absurdly sexy. And Lan Wangji is pretty okay with all of that.
I Might Have Been Drunk
Wei Wuxian carefully avoids telling Jiang Cheng where he was last night.
Even if he did get blackout drunk, he would have woken up on Lan Wangji’s roof. And I don’t think he was as drunk as that. He just knows Jiang Cheng wouldn’t like the truth.
Wen Fucking Chao, Again
Wen Chao shows up to be annoying and boring. This leads to a pretty good fight between Nie Mingjue and Wen Zhuliu. Note that when the chips are down, Nie Huaisang stands with his Gege without any cowering. Almost as if he had hidden reserves of bravery, and is not as helpless as he lets on.
Wen Zhuliu isn’t styled to be super hot, although he’s certainly compelling, and in Dance of the Phoenix he looks good with sensitive-guy hair wispies. I wonder what actor Feng Mingjing looks like out of character?
BRB, adding a tag to my follow list
Battle Bros
When the fighting breaks out, the Yunmeng brothers are decisive and united, with Wei Wuxian giving orders to Jiang Cheng and JC following without hesitation.
I feel like if these two could have gone through a few big battles together, instead of being separated during most of the Sunshot campaign, their whole relationship would have improved. On the battlefield, they respect, trust, and understand each other.
The Pointy End
Nie Mingjue is holding his own against Wen Zhuliu, but he gets distracted by Meng Yao hollering “Xue Yang has escaped” and then shanking the guard captain right in front of him.
Wen Zhuliu takes advantage of the distraction to aim a very slow stab at Nie Huasang, and Meng Yao jumps in front to get stabbed on his behalf.
When the Yunmeng bros show up to help NMJ, Wen Zhuliu immeiately yanks Wen Chao back behind him and points his sword at Wei Wuxian. He absolutely sees these two as a serious threat. Considering that eventually WWX is going to kill Wen Chao while JC kills Wen Zhuliu, this concern is not misplaced.
Wei Wuxian tells Wen Chao to stop being such a jerk, and Wen Chao menaces Wei Wuxian and gloats about the burning of cloud recesses. The burning, that is, of some part of cloud recesses that doesn’t include the library, the Jingshi, the main cultivation chamber, the rabbit warren, or Lan Qiren’s house, unless the Lan Clan is really really good at rebuilding things to very exact specifications.
In a rare moment of seeing Meng Yao’s internal thoughts, he is worried about Lan Xichen when he hears about cloud recesses.
The Yelling Part
Now we have the particularly nasty breakup between Nie Mingjue and Meng Yao. It’s...got some layers. Meng Yao is cowering on the floor, but is not apologizing.
He never apologizes throughout this encounter.
孟瑤無悔 - Meng Yao (has) no regrets
This scene is amazing and excruciating to watch, even more when you know what’s ahead.
What the Fuck is Meng Yao’s Plan
On one level this is Meng Yao, manipulative sociopath, setting up a cover story for his aiding and alliance with Xue Yang. On another, this is Meng Yao, loving subordinate, being tossed aside by his lord because he dared to stand up for himself.
He uses the same “scout’s honor” gesture we’ve seen Wei Wuxian use to swear he’s telling the truth. Wei Wuxian is always lying when he uses this gesture.
I’m...not sure exactly what Meng Yao’s plan is, with all these chess moves? By stabbing the captain in front of NHS, he created an opportunity to plant a cover story about Xue Yang’s escape. He might be hoping that Nie Mingjue will forgive him and keep him on, while Xue Yang can stay in his back pocket to be used later.
Dry eyes? Try Visene
Or he might be intending to get kicked out, given his non-apology. In any case, Nie Mingjue is weeping during this encounter, and Meng Yao...isn’t. He is signaling distress in his voice, expression, and body language, but his eyes are dry up until the last moment, and even then they just glisten a bit. In a show where every actor is an expert at crying on cue, that’s got to be a deliberate choice.
Which isn’t to say that Meng Yao is faking being full of emotion in this scene. It’s just that the emotion isn’t necessarily sorrow.
What Does Nie Mingjue’s Head Think
Flip the view and this is about Nie Mingjue being betrayed by a subordinate, who has turned out to be a self-serving murderer. And on another level it’s Nie Mingjue being betrayed by his lover, who was just using him for advancement.
I rewatched the later episode where we get the scene as Nie Mingjue’s head perceived it, and he’s particularly brokenhearted and disillusioned from his head’s POV. In that version there is a telling addition to the conversation.
Nie Mingjue asks about the guys who were roasting Meng Yao behind his back. He asks, if I hadn’t come, would you have murdered all of them?
Um. No, dude. Of course fucking not. That’s what a patriarchal authority does. That’s the way an angry Nie Mingjue/Baxia team might solve a problem.
Meng Yao has to use subterfuge to kill his enemies. And while he super hates being called “son of a whore” it’s absolutely not enough to make him kill someone, with the risk murder brings. Likewise, being treated well isn’t enough to make him spare someone. Nie Mingjue totally doesn’t get this, because he’s been the patriarch of this clan his entire adult life.
And Here’s the Actual Problem
There is a betrayal here, but Nie Mingjue is not simply a victim. Whether it’s a sexual relationship or a non-sexual bond of affection, there can be nothing solid in Nie Mingjue and Meng Yao’s relationship within a feudal society, because it is fundamentally unequal. Even if they love each other deeply - which I’m not convinced either of them does - every encounter they have is tainted with power dynamics.
Meng Yao has been elevated by Nie Mingjue and quite probably taken into his bed, as well as being told many family secrets, but has not been given a new surname (like, for example, Wen Zhuliu was) or independent power. More importantly, Nie Mingjue has not used his authority to remove or punish the many people who disrespect his subordinate. Lan Qiren would have had all of those gossipy fuckers kneeling in the snow, and Wen Ruohan would feed them to his mosh pit zombies.
Meng Yao is a murderous little snake, but he is right to be angry with Nie Mingjue about some things, and his pursuit of his own agenda is understandable.
Well, That Was a Slice
Meng Yao leaves, hurt, with a dignified bow; just as he did that one time when his dad kicked him down the Carp Tower steps.
Take note, both patriarchal authorities: that is his way of saying “I’m going to murder you one day.”
Nie Mingjue sits with his broken heart, as we realize that we’ve only spent 20 minutes with this guy and we’ve gone on an entire emotional journey with him. This episode packed in a LOT.

[Gusu, Cloud Recesses]
A warm spring breeze drifted through the bamboo forest outside the Jingshi, rustling the leaves. As the wind ebbed and flowed, the rustling rose and fell, mimicking the sound of ocean waves. The soothing sound of the bamboo served as stark contrast to the stillness of the Jingshi. Cool sandalwood smoke curled up from a small ceramic incense burner, tumbling up and dissipating into the air. Lan Wangji knelt before his desk with his back straight and shoulders relaxed. A small mountain of letters piled to his right. Three stacks sat neatly to his left. He took a letter from the pile to his right, skimmed it twice with his pale colored eyes, and carefully set it in the appropriate pile to his left. The sandalwood smoke continued to rise as Lan Wangji methodically moved through his work. Only the occasional crinkling of paper and the wave-like sound of bamboo could be heard. The stillness was interrupted when Wei Wuxian charged into the building. Lan Wangji looked up at the sound of quick footsteps. “Lan Zhan! Look what I noticed today!” Wei Wuxian shoved his wrist in front of Lan Wangji. His shirt was half open, showing his bare chest, and his cheeks flushed from exercise. “Mn?” Lan Wangji asked, setting down the letter he was reading. He looked up at Wei Ying’s face and then his gaze drifted to Wei Ying's bare chest. “Feel, Lan Zhan! Feel my pulse!” Wei Wuxian waved his wrist in front of Lan Wangji’s face as he plopped down next to Lan Wangji. Lan Wangji caught the flailing limb, set Wei Ying’s hand gently onto the desk, and pressed his fingers against the other man’s pulse. Wei Ying beamed as Lan Wangji assessed his pulse, feeling along the paths of the shorter man’s meridians. Lan Wangji’s qi was met with Wei Ying’s own energy and ferried to Wei Ying’s core. A golden core was forming inside his Wei Ying at last. “It’s coalescing.” “Yes! And at a decent pace too! Before you know it, I’ll be able to fight with a sword again! Are you looking forward to sparring with me?” “Mn,” Lan Wangji felt the corner of his lips pull back slightly. “Hey, Lan Zhan, speaking of swords, do you know what happened to Suibian? I haven’t seen it for months. Did I misplace it somewhere in Jingshi?” “Jiang Wanyin has it.” “What? Since when?” “When we left Yunmeng.” “Huh. I don’t remember this.” “Do you remember Jin Guangyao provoking Jiang Wanyin about the core transfer?” Wei Wuxian’s eyes darted up towards the ceiling briefly. “He could pull Suibian from its sheath. I remember that now! Hm… I wonder if he’s planning on keeping it or if…” Wei Wuxian trailed off as he turned around and leaned against Lan Wangji’s shoulder. “Lan Zhan, were you working this morning?” “Perusing correspondence. I should continue,” Lan Wangji responded as he wrapped his left arm around Wei Ying. He placed a kiss on the other man’s hair and breathed in — musk from exercising, dust from outside, pine resin, and hint of prickly spice. “Wei Ying always smells good.” The other man laughed. “You always smell good too, Lan er-gege.” Always active, Wei Ying reached towards Lan Wangji’s desk. “Lan Zhan, watcha reading now?” “We received a letter seeking help from Wuhu Gong Sect.” “Wuhu? Where is that?” “Between Gusu and Yunmeng, east of Hefei.” “What did they want?” “Disturbances on ChaoHu’s MuShan Island near Hefei.” “What kind?” “Unclear.” “Are we going to go help?” Lan Wangji waited, choosing not to answer. Wei Ying will figure it out. “Silly question. You go where the chaos is,” Wei Wuxian turned and kissed Lan Wangji. He then laughed, “And here I thought I was the chaos.” Lan Wangji huffed out a small snort. “Alright, alright. We should write back and go help out. I’ll find Chenqing and pack our stuff. You can finish your pile of letters.” “Check between the bed and the window.” “What?” Wei Wuxian hopped from where he was sitting and bounded over to the bed. “You left Chenqing there earlier in the month.” “You really remember everything, don’t you, Lan Zhan?” “No. Only if it pertains to Wei Ying.”
[Yunmeng, Lotus Pier]
Jiang Cheng snapped his head up at the sound of running. “Zongzhu! Help is requested urgently from Hefei!” A young disciple charged into the room waving a letter. “Is there the need to yell and run? Will a few additional moments change the outcome?” Jiang Cheng scolded as he snatched the folded message from the frantic disciple. “Go practice ‘Picking Lotus Roots in the Mud’ in the courtyard at one fifth the standard pace.” “Uh… One fifth?” “Do I need to repeat myself?” Jiang Cheng looked the boy in the eye. “No Zongzhu. Right away,” the disciple scurried off. Jiang Cheng watched the retreating figure and wondered if he himself could even perform the form at one fifth the speed. No matter, the boy was supposed to practice and it would teach him patience. Jiang Cheng turned his attention to the message in his hand. It was from Hefei’s Mi sect, a small sect allied to Yunmeng: “Seeking help from Sandu Shengshou Jiang Wanyin and the Yunmeng Jiang Sect. Mysterious yao disturbances on ChaoHu’s MuShan Island. Hefei Mi and Wuhu Gong attempted to subdue to no avail. Many spiritual weapons were lost in the process. The disturbances have been intensifying over the past three months. The people suffer. Area sects are forced to seek aid from major sects. Hefei Mi Sect Mi Tayan” Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes and refolded the letter. Why can’t minor sects be more competent? He and Wei Wuxian were probably subduing yao of that caliber when they were thirteen. Then again, Gong and Mi have had decent reputations lately. Maybe he should not underestimate the yao. Jiang Cheng’s right thumb began idly spinning the violet ring on his middle finger. ChaoHu was large. Yao thriving on those resources could be powerful. Such situations would be best approached with caution. A pity he couldn’t simply ignore this. As the Mi sect was Yunmeng’s most loyal supporter, Yunmeng was obligated to help. Luckily he had at least one spiritual weapon to spare. He stood and swept out of the room.
[MuShan Island]
Dusk blanketed the island in the middle of Chaohu. As the long shadows of trees merged into deep blue darkness, a full moon rose to cast a crisp white light over the party of cultivators on a night hunt. “Lan Zhan! There’s something over here!” Wei Wuxian said as he threw out a talisman towards a large tree. They had been scouring the island since lunch time and Wei Wuxian was growing hungry. The talisman flew forward, glowed bright red, and expanded into a spiritual net, aiming to capture an unidentified target. Wei Wuxian followed his talisman attack by pulling out Chenqing, twirling the flute in his hand once to adjust positioning, and bringing it to his lips. As the high pitch trill of the black bamboo flute pierced the air, the red glow of the spiritual net flickered and flared. Shadows pulsated against the net and Wei Wuxian closed his eyes to focus on pushing his will onto the creature with his infamous demon flute. “Sizhui, flank right with your group. Jingyi, flank left with yours. Aim to subdue, not kill,” Lan Wangji instructed the group of juniors. He then summoned Wangji qin from his qiankun pouch and set about sending spiritual energy towards Wei Wuxian’s net. Sizhui and Jingyi had developed enough experience that they were leading small groups on their own in major night hunts. The two juniors directed their groups to take up positions based on the Seven Stars of the Northern Dipper. Then, they all unsheathed their swords and sent them towards the being under the net. The spiritual blades danced around Wei Wuxian’s talisman. As they flew, the swords collided continuously. “PoZhangYin!” Wei Wuxian opened his eyes and exclaimed after a few collisions, realizing the clanging of the blades played out Gusu’s famous battle melody. “That’s a clever use of swords! I see someone has been teaching useful things like creativity and practical application of known skills!” “Wei-qianbei has a good ear!” Jingyi said as his sword hit Sizhui’s. “It was Sizhui’s idea. He remembered that awful blade of grass you used and thought we could do the same with our swords. We have been practicing!” “Jingyi, focus,” Lan Wangji chided, sending another wave of qin energy towards the target. “Wei Ying, do you know what it is?” “Some sort of old waterfowl yao. I can’t quite get a sense of it yet. Possibly a duck. Hey, Hanguang-jun, do you want to have roast duck for dinner?” “I prefer sampling local delicacies,” Lan Wangji responded, his voice steady as he sent another wave of energy towards the trapped yao. “You do have a point, Lan Zhan. I hear the Binjiong cakes here are good. We should give them a try.” “Mn. Focus so Wei Ying can eat later. It’s loquat season.” Wei Wuxian laughed, “Alright! Your treat, Hanguang-jun!” He turned his attention back to the trapped yao. As the nine cultivators poured their energies into the talisman and sword formation, the shadows emanating from the net began to subside. After a stick of incense worth of time, the last notes of PoZhangYin clanged from the swords and the talisman net’s bright glow softened to the dim light of embers. Anguished quacks could be heard. “Wei-qianbei! You’re right, it is a duck yao!” The noises continued and Wei Wuxian’s brows furrowed. Something did not feel right. The sound was not… Wei Wuxian cursed and bolted to the yao. He hurriedly started casting a silencing talisman while explaining, “This isn’t a duck yao. It’s a mandarin duck yao and she’s calling for her mate. He’s probab—” Something fast crashed into his back, knocking him forward. He fell, crushing the talisman net and releasing the yao inside. “Wei Ying!” Wei Wuxian heard Lan Zhan yell as energy waves from Wangji washed over him. Both yao being hit by the chord attacks reared up and expanded in size. The smell of rotting fish, stale lake water, and decaying wood filled Wei Wuxian’s nose. The two yao propelled themselves into the air, their attention diverted from Wei Wuxian to Lan Wangji. “Lan Zhan!” Wei Wuxian yelled as he scrambled up and brought Chenqing to his lips again. The strong melancholy notes from Chenqing pushed towards the yao, attempting to control them. “Sizhui, Jingyi, Bagua formation! Contain them. Vanquish if necessary,” Lan Wangji ordered, Wangji still in hand. He swept his fingers over the seven strings, sending out seven separate chord assassination attacks. The juniors took positions in accordance to Bagua with Lan Wangji at the Qian position and Sizhui at the Kun position wielding their respective qin. The other juniors’ swords wove around the two yao. Marsh, Fire, Thunder, Wind, Water, and Mountain anchored between Heaven and Earth. The Bagua formation shifted between its permutations, drawing upon these primal aspects of nature. The two yao, trapped in an ever-mutating array of sword and qin energies, struggled against the Lan sect attack at first. The female soon calmed. She flew around the male, calming him as well. They hovered in midair observing the attacks. Then, the two yao moved. The female allowed herself to get hit by an attack from Lan Haoye. The sword stabbed into her left side but seemed to do little damage. Instead, the sword became embedded in the yao and Haoye lost control of her sword. Then, the female dove for the youngest cultivator, Lan Pinshu, who stood halfway between Lan Sizhui and Lan Wangji. The male, similarly, took a hit from Lan Runchan and dove for Lan Jinglin. Haoye stood on the water position and Pinshu on fire. Lan Runchan was on marsh and Jinglin on mountain. Wei Wuxian cursed again, “Everyone be careful. They’re taking hits aligned with their nature to strengthen themselves and attacking the opposite element to counter us. The female is cunning.” Wei Wuxian gathered his qi and pushed off the ground towards Pinshu. Times like these he missed his old body. This one was still too slow and had too little reach. To accelerate himself further, he slapped a talisman onto his lower back. He was closer to the boy than the female yao. He had a chance to protect the boy if he could just move between them. The force of the magic boosted his speed, giving him just enough time to step between the yao and the boy. He tucked Chenqing into his qiankun sleeve and grabbed Haoye’s sword jutting from the yao’s side. The yao screamed, strong resentful energy burst forth from her body. Gusts of resentment whipped around Wei Wuxian and Lan Pinshu, lifting up small pieces of foliage and debris. Wei Wuxian stood firm, putting himself between the yao and Pinshu, using his body as a shield. He clung onto Haoye’s sword and sliced down, aiming to split the yao in half. The yao screeched for her mate. The male yao abandoned his trajectory, shifting his body and arced towards Wei Wuxian. In flight, his form flattened into a blade with his beak elongating and sharpening into a point. Wei Wuxian saw the male yao approach but stood his ground. Haoye’s sword cut through and broke free from the female yao as the male yao’s beak pierced Wei Wuxian’s left side, sliding between two of his ribs. Before Wei Wuxian could redirect Haoye’s sword to slice towards the yao embedded half way in his chest, a bright flash of purple accompanied by a loud pop grabbed the tail end of the yao and forcibly pulled it out of Wei Wuxian’s chest. Wei Wuxian bit down on a scream. There was no reason to scare Pinshu right now. Wei Wuxian heard his name through a daze as something zoomed towards him. He lifted up Haoye’s sword to deflect the projectile but instinct took over and he found himself catching the object at the last moment. Suibian, his old sword, rested in his hand. In his previous life, Suibian’s hilt fit his hand so perfectly it was as if the sword had formed knowing it would be his. Considering the inscription on its sheath, maybe it did know. In this new body, his hand was just a fraction too small to wield Suibian with that old familiarity and ease. Wei Wuxian tightened his grip on his old friend. “Wei Wuxian, pay attention!” The sound of Jiang Cheng yelling shook Wei Wuxian from his thoughts. The female yao charged at him with half her entrails spilling from her body. Wei Wuxian unsheathed Suibian, pulled spiritual energy from his newly forming golden core, and sliced towards the yao. After a few exchanges, Suibian decapitated the creature, its body falling to the ground with a splat. Wei Wuxian smiled, “Suibian, looks like we still got this.” He thought he felt the sword shiver in response. Looking around, he saw Jiang Cheng and the Lans had disposed of the male yao as well. Lan Wangji and Sizhui were putting their qin away; Zidian was receding into Jiang Cheng’s ring; and the juniors were all sheathing their swords. Wei Wuxian watched Lan Wangji give instructions to the five unseasoned juniors to cleanse the area of residual resentment. Everyone was safe and well. He let out a sigh of relief which turned into coughs. Blood dribbled from his mouth and he fell to his knees. As he toppled forward, his right hand shot out to support his weight as his left hand pressed against the suddenly searing wound on his chest. Footsteps and people yelling his name closed in around him. “Wei Ying!” “Wei-qianbei!” “Wei Wuxian!” “I’m ok. Just a small wound,” Wei Wuxian tried to wave everyone off. Lan Wangji knelt by Wei Wuxian and started examining his puncture wound. “I can’t believe you let that yao hit you. What were you thinking? What if it were trying to curse you?” Jiang Cheng walked up and started scolding. “I was fighting the female.” “You’re coughing up blood.” “Jiang Cheng, you try having something stab you in the lungs. I’m sure you’ll cough up some blood too,” Wei Wuxian retorted, making himself cough up more blood. “Jin Guangyao did a few months ago, remember?” “Wei Ying. Stop talking.” “Jiang-zongzhu, maybe it’s not the best idea for you to antagonize Wei-qianbei right now,” Sizhui spoke up, giving Lan Wangji nervous glances. Lan Wangji stymied the blood flow by hitting a few choice acupoints. He then disinfected Wei Wuxian’s wound with a stream of qi and sprinkled some wound sealing powder to help accelerate clotting. He wrapped his right arm around Wei Wuxian’s waist, “Can you stand?” Wei Wuxian gave a nod and let Lan Wangji help him up. He looked at Jiang Cheng awkwardly. “Um…” “I’m just here to retrieve my sword.” “Sandu?” “The one in your hand.” Wei Wuxian felt his grip on Suibian tighten. “Suibian has always been my sword.” “It unsheathes for me.” Wei Wuxian paused. What argument could he use? They both knew Suibian would unsheathe for Jiang Cheng because Jiang Cheng has Wei Wuxian’s golden core. Because it was what Wei Wuxian owed the Jiangs. Because Wei Wuxian did not believe Jiang Cheng would be able to survive without one. But that was not an argument he could make. His chest was hurting and he did not need to revisit Jiang Cheng’s reaction. “I’m taking your silence as agreement,” Jiang Cheng reached for the sword. Wei Wuxian pulled Suibian out of Jiang Cheng’s reach. “Suibian also unsheathes for me.” “Suibian was given to you as the head disciple of Yunmeng Jiang. You’re no longer in the sect. You defected. I should have taken Suibian with me then,” Jiang Cheng drew himself to his full height and looked down his nose at Wei Wuxian. “Suibian is sentient. It knows Wei Ying,” Lan Wangji spoke up, glaring down at Jiang Cheng. “Suibian is made from the trees of Yunmeng, its blade quenched with our waters. It belongs in Yunmeng. And it knows me as well.” “Suibian has always been Wei Wuxian’s sword. You did not take it when Wei Ying moved to the Burial Mounds. It is not yours to take right now.” “Wei Wuxian would not even have it had I not brought it as a backup to Sandu today.” “Jiang Cheng, why are you here anyway? And why bring Suibian?” Wei Wuxian asked. “Mi Tayan wrote Yunmeng seeking help. Apparently the Gong sect and Mi sect could not handle these two on their own. Suibian served as a spare since the yao had been taking spiritual weapons,” Jiang Cheng answered frankly. He then looked Wei Wuxian up and down. Wei Wuxian shrunk into Lan Wangji, hearing Jiang Cheng’s unspoken words: Your new body is weak. You don’t have a golden core anyway. You can’t use it for long. “A few days ago, I felt the beginning of a golden core coalescing.” Jiang Cheng raised an eyebrow. “Why are you telling me this? Why would I care?” “I will have the strength to wield Suibian again. Suibian is mine.” “You can take it when you can and are willing to take the golden core inside me back,” Jiang Cheng spat. His ring crackled as Zidian sent forth a warning shock. “You know I would never do that.” “Then give me back my sect’s sword.” Wei Wuxian pushed Lan Wangji away and placed his right hand on Suibian’s hilt. “I don’t want to fight you Jiang Cheng but I’m not someone you can bully.” Zidian crackled. “Suibian belongs to Yunmeng. I will not let Lan-er or any other self-righteous, headband wearing, cultivator take what belongs to my sect. Yunmeng will not back down.” Sizhui interjected, “Wait. Fighting now is unproductive. Jiang-zongzhu, Wei-qianbei, is there no other resolution? If Suibian is sentient, can we not ask it to choose?” “Yeah! Even if Jiang-zongzhu beats Wei-qianbei, it wouldn’t reflect well on Yunmeng. I didn’t think Yunmeng would be the type to pick on someone who was just injured and without a fully formed core,” Jingyi added. Wei Wuxian scoffed, “You’re not holding back, are you, Jingyi?” “Sorry Wei-qianbei. Fighting Jiang-zongzhu right now would be so unfair to you.” “Ask it to choose?” Jiang Cheng scoffed at Sizhui. “Suibian isn’t some spirit you can just ask with WenLing who it is, how it died, what it wants. It’s a sword that has bonded with a person.” Jingyi laughed, “Well, then we just have to show if it’s bonded more to the soul or the golden core.” “And how do you propose to do this? I’ve never heard of such an assessment.” “Jiang-zongzhu, we just need to be a bit creative. Would you mind performing some initial tests with us?” Sizhui asked. “I’m not here to play games.” “We are serious, right, Sizhui? We are simply trying to apply our new-found creativity and practical application of known skills!” Jingyi beamed. Sizhui did not roll his eyes at his smug friend. “Jiang-zongshu, has Jin Ling ever spoken with you about the events that transpired at Yi City involving Xue Yang, Song Lan-daozhang, and Xiao Xingchen-daozhang? “Some.” “Are you aware that Xue Yang had Shuanghua at the time? And Hanguang-jun was able to take it from him?” “Jin Ling did mention something like that.” “Shuanghua was aware that Xue Yang did not align with Xiao Xingchen-daozhang’s world view and thus abandoned Xue Yang. I believe if you and Wei-qianbei are both able to wield Suiban then it becomes a matter of seeing if one of you can override the other’s will.” Jiang Cheng pursed his lips into a line. Sizhui added, “Jiang-zongzhu, you have the advantage here. Considering Wei-qianbei’s lower cultivation, he would only be able to override your will if Suibian is truly loyal to him. You have very little to lose.” “Fine,” Jiang Cheng scowled. “Let’s get this over with.” Sizhui then turned to Wei Wuxian, “Wei-qianbei, would you mind sending Suibian out to encircle that tree, approaching from the left, and returning it to its sheath?” Wei Wuxian performed the task. “Wei-qianbei, hand Suibian to Jiang-zongzhu,” Jingyi ordered. “Jiang-zongzhu please do the same but approach from the right.” Jiang Cheng performed the task with a bored expression. “Jiang-zongzhu, please hand Suibian back to Wei-qianbei. Now, Wei-qianbei will perform the same task as he did earlier. You goal, Jiang-zongzhu is to get Suibian to circle the tree from the other direction.” Wei Wuxian stared at the sword that was too big for his hand. Are you really mine? Or have you bonded with Jiang Cheng in the last few months? He closed his eyes, sighed, and sent Suibian flying. Suibian flew true and returned to Wei Wuxian. Jiang Cheng scowled, “Is that it? This proves nothing.” “There is at least one more step,” Sizhui answered respectfully. “Wei-qianbei, give Suibian to Jiang-zongzhu. Your turn to try to make Suibian fly the other direction!” Jingyi said, shaking with excitement. “Jiang-zongzhu, if Wei-qianbei is able to divert Suibian, then it is likely bonded with him more than with you. If not, then we will need to find a different way to assess the ownership of the sword.” Wei Wuxian nodded and whispered to the sword, “Suibian, you sealed for me for thirteen years. I cannot ask for more. But maybe do me a favor this one time.” He then handed it over to Jiang Cheng. Sizhui stared Jiang Cheng in the eye. “You may proceed.” Suibian flew out from Jiang Cheng towards the pre-appointed tree. It started veering right but wobbled. Jiang Cheng’s brow furrowed, driving it back on course. Wei Wuxian bit his lip, his eyes narrowing slightly, shoving his focus into the sword. The distance between where they stood and the tree was only ten zhang or so. He didn’t have much time. He could feel Jiang Cheng urging the sword to the right. Wei Wuxian shifted his weight onto the balls of his feet, mentally reaching for Suibian. Suibian, I miss you. Please. Wei Wuxian could feel Jiang Cheng’s connection to the sword snap as Suibian swerved in mid-air, circled the tree from the left, and flew into Wei Wuxian’s grip. Jiang Cheng let out a startled grunt. Wei Wuxian almost laughed at the familiar sound. It reminded him of childhood in Yunmeng, of waking up to that sound and a thud as Jiang Cheng rolled off his bed. A grin spread across Wei Wuxian’s face. “Incredible! Suibian really is sentient,” Pinshu sighed in admiration. “I thought only cultivators who had bonded for a lifetime with their swords had that sort of loyalty!” “Suibian has always been loyal to Wei Ying,” Lan Wangji explained. “Its inscription is indicative of its devotion. Sizhui, Jingyi, good work." The two juniors stood up straighter and grinned at each other under Lan Wangji's praise. Jiang Cheng handed Suibian's sheath to Wei Wuxian, “Yours. Don’t be too smug. I don’t want it if it doesn’t belong to Yunmeng. And stop leaving it places.” “Jiang Cheng…” “What?” “Thank you.” “Whatever. It’s not like it’s that good a sword anyway,” Jiang Cheng said and stalked off into the darkness to look for the other members of his sect. Wei Wuxian clung onto Suibian, “Welcome back. I’ve missed you.” He suddenly lifted up Suibian and stared at the sword in awe. “Wei Ying?” “Lan Zhan, is my hand suddenly bigger?” Wei Wuxian asked, holding up a hand that once belonged to a man named Mo Xuanyu. Lan Zhan held up his hand as well. Wei Wuxian’s hand was smaller by the same familiar margin. “No. Why does Wei Ying ask?” Wei Wuxian gripped Suibian by the hilt and held out his fist out. “My hand was a bit too small earlier tonight. And now it’s perfect for my hand again.” “Mn. Suibian is a good sword.” “Suibian really is a good sword,” Wei Wuxian echoed. “Hey, do you think you can treat your poor wounded husband to some roast mandarin duck and Binjiong cakes now?” “Loquats as well. My treat,” Lan Wangji nodded once with a hint of a smile.
Author’s notes:
1) For SHL/WOH fans, I was working on this request and trying to find a place between yunmeng and gusu. I ended up seeing Hefei, Chaohu, and Mushan Island. As I was zooming out, I noticed Wuhu was a town pretty close by… so I decided to shove a reference to Gong Jun and his Wuhu singing into my story as an easter egg. I’m not sorry.
2) Poetry references: A - The name of the form JC asks the disciple to practice is 泥中采藕 in chinese. I pulled it from this poem: 元 · 丁鹤年 水上摘莲青的的,泥中采藕白纤纤。 却笑同根不同味,莲心清苦藕芽甜。
B - This is completely me being derp. Hefei is a location where the name fertile (in terms of soil)/fat is part of the name. I chose the sect to have a last name related to grains. And then I looked up that character in poetry to name the sect leader: 黄庭坚 (宋) 嚼冰进糜餐,冲雪踏层巘
C - Since CR’s name is from a Jia Dao poem, I chose to pull all the names of the OC juniors from Jia Dao Poems as well: Pinshu is from: 《让纠曹上乐使君》 瓶汲南溪水,书来北岳僧。
Haoye is per: 《上谷旅夜》 月到寒窗空皓晶,风翻落叶更飕飗
Jinglin and Runchan I took inspiration from: 《升道精舍南台对月寄姚合》 月向南台见,秋霖洗涤余。 出逢危叶落,静看众峰疏。 冷露常时有,禅窗此夜虚。 相思聊怅望,润气遍衣初。
3) Seven Stars of the Northern Dipper is the big dipper. It’s common in wuxia as a formation. Same goes for Bagua. Both are daoist but so is Xianxia type cultivation. I know the Lans are Buddhist in origin but they really aren’t that way religion-wise.
4) Mandarin ducks are yuanyang and a term/symbol of a loving couple and monogamous faithfulness.
5) 滨炯一品玉带糕 are binjiong yiping (first ranked) jade-belted cakes. They’re a famous pastry/cake in the area. Idk if it’s period accurate but mdzs isn’t period accurate so i’m using it. 姥山枇杷 (mushan loquats) are supposed to be large, sweet, thin skinned with lots of flesh and super juicy. It was a good thing to include since this story is so heavily wangxian. And i don’t know if people eat mandarin ducks, but I would want to if i were wwx after that night hunt.

Can't remember if I sent another prompt you haven't answered yet or not ^^'. So have a new one ! SQH is paranoid and over-prepared. As such he carries on him at all time so many knives. And talisman. And cures for poisons. Then he has a meeting with another sect where no weapons are allowed. Cue him removing them all (or most of them) in front of others, and being surprised it's not the norm (it's a ridiculous world ! why wouldn't you carry 5 swords at all time, even if you rarely use them ?)
Sorry for the lateness, things have been a bit crazy at my job. That said, this will probably be the last of the prompts I do. Thank you for giving me all those awesome ideas! As for the prompt... it may have gone it’s own way on me here... (I might have been inspired by Tossawary again... Go check out their fics, they are the most addicting~)
-----
So... ‘Peace Talks’... between Huan Hua Palace and Anqiu Shrine Hall...
Shang Qinghua has to wonder why this is his life?! Why does that fucking creep of an Old Palace Master have to go pissing off the one Sect in his entire world that Really shouldn’t be fucked with? Is it the strongest or most formidable? No, but it’s strengths in healing and Alchemy are unparalleled the world over. Too the point even demons don’t fuck with it, seeing as the Shrine Hall treats everyone, no matter the blood or look, as long as one has not committed the ‘Great Sins’ as they call it.
(Most of which boils down to ‘Don’t be a dick’ and ‘CONSENT DAMIT!!’. Airplane may not have created them, but damn does he feel respect for their work, and the history of just how they formed.)
But yes, the Old Palace Master is trying (key word on the trying) to manipulate the politics and polices of Anqiu Shrine Hall, especially the Free Healthcare and treating everyone, while Anqiu Hall wants to kick the Palace Master’s ass to next Sunday. (or as it is called here, the Day of Wind; yeah, cheating with time and calling weekdays after the elements may have not been his best idea, but it sure as heck worked, especially when he had to live with it.) And Anqiu has so many indebted to it, so many willing, both demon and cultivator alike, it could very, very easily wipe out Huan Hua Palace if it actually wished to.
It is also very, very lucky that the Shrine Hall does not blame the innocents learning their for their fucking Creep of a Sect Master’s conduct, and does not want to hurt them, no matter how arrogant they act. So, Cang Qiong Mountain Sect, which has been called to meditate between the two, would just like this to end peacefully and without a war between Sects threatening to rise please.
Which, hopefully if they play their cards right, they could push back at least another 25-50 years, and by then the Protagonist will wreck everything, driving it all moot. Shang Qinghua prays for that day to come so much; he really, really didn’t think, with all the cultivation sects he made as Airplane, that so many of them would be capable of starting so much shit with each other like this. They were just there to trouble the Protagonist, not each other! Stop making him get more paperwork! He is really sick of seeing Yue Qingyuan’s despairing smile shared with his own face!
But as it is, they are still causing problems now, which leads him back in the circle of the topic he has been avoiding; The Peace Talks that Cang Qiong Sect with be leading, with himself, Yue Qingyuan, Shen Qingqiu, and Mu Qingfang as support and a healer’s take...
Shang Qinghua really, really wants to take all the knives he has and call it a day. That said, the last time he had, and had to take them all out before a meeting, because apparently no other weapons besides spiritual swords were allowed, and even then they had to be placed in front on the table as everyone talked. (which??? He didn’t get? Are you asking to be attacked??)
But with each weapon and deadly knife and trap he pulled out, Yue Qingyuan had used strained smile number 20, the one with a lot more despair and disbelief, not to mention the other blank looks he received from the rest of the sects in that meeting, nor how they casually backed away when Shang Qinghua finally finished disarming... and Shen Qingqiu had actually looked thoughtful and approving...
So, only taking along several of his more of his useful and sneaky knives, to at least make him feel better if nothing else, Shang Qinghua goes for more of a stealth idea this time, with a focus on defense.
Multiple Evil Repealing Talismans, along with useful tracking, poison repel and barrier will at least be able to work to his favor, and if need be, he can use the sandwich method to squish any foes, while also able to knock back any healing items away form them, with a easy fix to the poison repel. It can, if he has time for it, even make it to where any buffs or healing a person does to themselves reverse, rapidly, leaving them weaker then they were at base health.
The tracking talismans are of course for him to place on everyone in the room, just so he can know just what everyone is doing if they plan to become a threat and all.
Thinking about it, Shang Qinghua can’t help but be pleased, as while having many knives on one person is nice, it is even better to have a near endless supply of Talismans on his person. That he can even make more if needed is just a bigger plus in his book as well, as if you lose a knife, there is very little chance of getting it back unless you have a return seal on them.
But as it is, if he runs out of Qi... hmmm. Ah!
Getting out some of his jewelry, Shang Qinghua gets to work.
Some Pills already look gem-like, why not make use of that? messing with some of the rings students have made, Shang Qinghua has managed to incorporate numerous pills into his rings, hair ordainments, and even a few necklaces. Even a few elixirs were managed, with him sneaking it into one of his necklaces, while two others were added into some of his already hallowed hairpins!
It even looks cool, the clear jade casing to cover the pill fragrances causing a rather unique effect with the already beautiful top grade pills and crystal colored liquids. Very fitting as his station as a Peak Lord!
He was even able to sneak in some really deadly wires, replacing them with the strings with several necklaces! (of course, he makes sure to have a qi binding seal placed on them, dulling them until he is actually ready to pull them off; there is no need to take off his own head here, thank you very much.)
Looking at the outfit he has made for himself, Shang Qinghua can’t help the pleased smile on his face as he does.
At least with this, he will be prepared for most anything! Hmmm, he might even be able to go to the Northern Palace Court like this?
With that, Shang Qinghua is off, wondering what else he can do with his outfits.
(A lot, apparently)
