Merlin is frozen.

He’s stiff and warm and his hands are spread in the air and he thinks he’ll be stuck like this forever. Arthur’s lips are soft, though, and his hands are gentle against Merlin’s cheeks so there really were worse places to be stuck.

Arthur doesn’t seem to think so, leaning back before Merlin can gather his thoughts–and lips– to respond, still cradling his face. He goes to pull away but Merlin finds it in himself to reach out, grasping at Arthur’s wrists to keep him close.

The prince swallows, his lips parted and beautiful, searching Merlin’s face with his crystal clear eyes.

“Merlin… I’m…” He pauses, his brow crinkling. “Do you hear that?”

For a moment, he thinks Arthur can hear his heartbeat, echoing through his ears and through the stables. He can’t hear anything but the rapid beating in his chest and the heavy breaths that pass between them, the world silent around them.

Silent.

Merlin blinks, Arthur stepping back toward the door to the stables, leaning his head out. The servant follows, still holding onto one of his wrists, and gazes out to the castle grounds.

The sun shines brightly overhead across all of Camelot and, at a glance, seems completely ordinary. However, the knights across the field are stopped completely in their long strides, one of the riding horses’ head is turned, its mane circling its muzzle suspended in the air, and one of the servants’ hands are outstretched, a pot of water spilling over but not flowing in the slightest.

Camelot is frozen, trapped in time.

His heart drops, nails digging into Arthur’s wrist, the aura of magic surrounding them familiar. An extension of his own magic, gripping his chest, and a sickly feeling settles in his stomach.

“What…?” Arthur mutters, reaching for his blade, placing a hand on the hilt. “Who could’ve done this?”

His tone is accusatory and asked to the air, not expecting a response and Merlin’s eyes burn from tears. Squeezing them shut tight as he reaches out with his magic, with his very being, he begs anything that could hear to make it all okay. To make time move again and take them both back to that moment Arthur approached him in the stables.

He’s not ready.

I've felt like I should check in with Apollo the past few days and finally managed to clear enough space on my floor to feel alright with breaking out the tarot deck again so I did! Lit his candle, said as as formal a prayer as I could muster beforehand, asked Hermes to help with communication, the whole shebang. For further context: I've been wanting to ask Aphrodite something specific (also via tarot, it's the most grounding tool I've got) but I only have the one deck at the moment and, while I've used it to ask Hermes about things in tandem with Apollo, and Aphrodite introduced herself via it (with a card that also introduced Apollo), I wasn't sure if it would be cool for me to use it to ask her specifically something not in direct tandem with Apollo. I mentioned that in the prayer but also said that that might be a question for a different session, since trying to get an answer to that (on top of the general "hey how are we doing/do you have anything you want me to learn") might muddy my ability to understand the message.

Cue twelve cards falling out of my deck/poking out while I was shuffling. I usually pull ~3 cards on top of whatever falls out, but I ended up not feeling like it was needed. Seven of them fell out face-up, too.

Despite having some concerns about whether all of the cards were "supposed" to be pulled, it was pretty coherent! And covered quite a few things I've been thinking about recently, including sorting out anxiety vs a warning/displeasure, a follow-up of a card that was the focus of my last pull, and a reminder to look at outside/intellectual sources to combat the whatever-the-fuck-my-brain's-on. There were four cards that fell out face-up together in a pile: a card I associate with Apollo at the front and one associated with Artemis (the Moon) at the back, with cards related to unity & growth in the middle. I'd had a pretty bad experience attempting an offering to Artemis last month and have stepped back and avoided asking her for anything or specifically invoking her in prayers/offerings/etc. since (except for once when it involved a pregnant friend b/c it seemed odd and tbh a little disrespectful to ask Apollo for help and not her as well) because I took it as a sign that she didn't want me to work with her. I'm also aware, though, that that bad experience could have just been a meltdown/panic attack. Regardless of whether it was either of those two things, a "hey slow down" warning, or a combination, it was nice to have some clear reassurance & an official introduction. It's also significant, I think, that part of the Moon card's message is about not letting anxiety/"self-deception" (direct from the guide) cloud your intuition. I've been wanting to burn the candle I dedicated to her for a few days now- it's possible that was a sign from her as well.

As far as the deck-use question...the first card that fell out was the Empress (face-up, reversed). My initial thought was that it was a "no", but I decided to look at the meaning in case it wasn't that which was. probably a bad idea. It freaked me out a bit because I couldn't figure out what it was referring to. I ended up using my alphabet oracle tiles for a makeshift yes/no system after finishing with all the other cards and got clear confirmation that my instinct was, in fact, correct.

All in all it was really cool?? By far the most cards I've had in one pill iirc, and a good lesson in identifying how my intuition works.

- Ppl really overstate the degree to which post-rez wwx is just a silly goofy innocent twink like. here he is spouting off a yllz style torture fantasy in his head unprompted. BRO'S STILL GOT IT

- he hated xue yang SO much from the moment he heard about him lmfao!! the diff between his attitude on XY vs his attitude on any other antagonist he meets post-rez is always interesting to me. i mean the first thing wwx heard of him is "oh yeah people somewhat blame you for his evil acts bc he was using the techniques you developed also oh yeah he rebuilt your doomsday weapon that you thought you destroyed and no one had to worry about anymore". tbh i do think wwx felt somewhat responsible

- "this little punk is out here doing disproportionate retribution on people >:( what if I did disproportionate retribution on HIM" ok, not getting into debate on the jianghu's opinion on the morality of torture, or whether it can be considered proportionate to anything. from MY perspective it's rly funny

- "Rip to people who don't run off in singleminded bloody revenge on the ppl who hurt their family out of consideration of their remaining family, but I'm different." + specifically referring to this as "dragging an opponent down with you". Never considered it from this angle before but wwx is pretty clearly reminded of the massacre of the Jiangs while empathizing with Chang Ping here. The subconscious(?) recognition from wwx that his revenge was destructive to himself and his loved ones I also find really interesting

I got my oracle deck a bit ago but forgot to post a pic or 2 of them! (Also some ramblings under read more!)

Of course these 2 are my favorites but all the cards are so pretty :'3 I really love the little details in the cards, like on the satyr's art there's grapes, goblets, vines, and an aulos! And the satyr themself is so pretty :'3 I love this artist's style!

And Xenagos' art is just as pretty >:'3 I love his pose and the entire vibe of the art, it feels like this is deep in the forest in Skola Valley and it has a bit of an ominous but welcoming vibe, like you stumbled onto a revel wandering in the forest and he's welcoming you into the revel but! Watch out!

Also the card meaning for him "Breaking Free" is so fitting and I love it :'3 (and the satyr's "Trust Your Heart" is also just as lovely and fitting!!)

(Sorry the Nylea is a bit blurry :'v) I also love how the mono coloured god cards have stars and lines making them into constellations! And a personal bit I like specifically in Nylea's art is the forest in the background, she is the Goddess of nature but the forest for some reason in the background reminds me of my old childhood home a bit <:3 (when I was little we lived pretty much in the forest and the trees in the background remind me of when I'd look at the mountains and just see a sea of trees and green)

All the cards are super pretty and I love all the details in all of them uwu I'm honestly so happy I got to grab these cards :'3
