I'm Rena Al-Hila from Gaza.

I never imagined I'd find myself in a situation that required me to write these words, but life took an unexpected and devastating turn. My family of six, made up of my father, Iyad, my mother, Zumrud, and my brothers, Mohammed, Ahmed, and Reham, is facing a crisis we cannot overcome alone.

We are urgently asking for help because we cannot do it alone. We need to rebuild not only our home, but our lives as well. Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly to providing my family with a safe place to sleep, food to eat, and a chance to reclaim their dreams. Because of the war, I undergo blood tests every two months to check my health. I need an endoscopy, but due to lack of time, I haven't had it. I have suffered from this condition since 2023, and the situation has worsened due to the instability and unavailability of medications. We face difficulty purchasing medications due to their high prices. Now, life has become very difficult, and the prices of medications have increased due to their scarcity. I am Mohammed from Gaza and this is my story

Before the war, we lived in safety and comfort. I went to school and was interested in my studies. Thank God, I was always among the top students

Like any normal day, I was on my way to school to complete my studies and get closer to my dreams, and suddenly...

At exactly 6:30 in the morning, something happened that changed everything, destroyed our lives, demolished our homes, and snatched away our dreams💔.

It was war...😓

The war came and destroyed all our lives, we were displaced from our home and went to areas we never imagined we would reach and lived in tents winter and summer and carried hundreds of liters of water, whether salty or for drinking and we heard sounds that no human had ever heard before and in the absence of gas fire became our only way to cook if we had something to cook and everything in our lives became lines whether eating, drinking, moving, shaving everything that comes to your mind became suffering and extreme difficulty nothing comes easily

hello! i know you meant this in a rude sense, but i'm gonna use this as an opportunity to talk about this.

there are two different disorders that rest in systems: dissociative identity disorder (DID) and other specified dissociative disorder (OSDD). we have DID specifically. both DID and OSDD are dissociative disorders and exist on a scale with other levels of dissociation.

you cannot have a disorder further along without fiting the criteria for those earlier (ie you cannot have OSDD without fitting the criteria for both PTSD and C-PTSD). everyone experiences some form of dissociation: that's the first step. day dreaming, getting lost in thought: these are normal, not maladaptive forms of dissociation.

DID and OSDD happen when someone has experienced significant and repetitive trauma during early childhood. according to the theory of structural dissociation states that as children, we do not have a single unified conscious. rather, different emotional states exist fairly separately, which is how kids can seem to switch so easily between them.

normally what happens is around the age of 9, all these states fuse together into one continuous consciousness. however, in certain scenarios, a child will resort to dissociation as a result of trauma. this walls off a specific set of emotions or memories, preventing it from integrating as it would normally. this is why DID cannot develop later in life, since it's specific to a developmental process.

when a brain forms parts or alters, it is a survival tactic because the person won't be able to survive otherwise. it is based in trauma. endogenic "systems" claim to have alters or parts without the trauma. this is not only impossible, but really offensive to me and other DID/OSDD systems. we are incredibly disabled by our traumas and the resulting disorders, and seeing people co-opt our terms and attempt to find community with us is incredibly upsetting.

the best way i've found to explain to non-systems is: imagine you have ptsd. someone else comes along and also claims to have ptsd. they didn't experience any trauma, but they don't like the sound of yelling or of gunshots, so they basically have ptsd. or if someone has no issues with regulating insulin but claims to be diabetic because they get woozy when they haven't eaten. it's just straight up not how the disorder works. if you've heard the term "trans-abled", it's that. plain and simple.

td;dr plurality and systemhood are the results of intense trauma, and endos claim to have systems without the necessary trauma. and we don't wanna interact with people co-opting the "fun" parts of our disability while ignoring the parts they don't want.
