I've been thinking, since the act has ended, I've got a prime chance to gather my thoughts; and open a dialogue about the merits and perhaps the pitfalls of the current writing direction of the new comic. Besides, this post was getting WAY too long, so I hope to start a fresh one at the beginning of every act so as not to destroy people's dashes QUITE as much. I've never done a liveblog before, and honestly I wasn't planning to, but it just kind of happened this way, so I'm still figuring everything out. Let me know if you think I'm doing the shittiest job in the world, and you know SO MANY ways to improve it!
Anyway, I think we all know the state of the fandom, when hsbc started updating. We had just come off of the tragic release that was the epilogues, and then the subsequent insult to injury that the previous team had left behind with Homestuck². Nobody was left to believe in this thing, and I was certainly one of them.
I had kind of this general attitude of "Let's all point and laugh at how hard they bungle it THIS time!" but then something strange started happening. The writers were actually listening to the fan feedback, for once, and making marked improvements—in characterization, in tension, in dialogue, in art style, and in scope—it slowly dawned on me that I was genuinely excited to read the next page, not ironically.
I think a part of me wanted this to work, all along. Like sonic fans who had to sit through the most painful, doggiest shit of a game, like clockwork, every year, just in hopes that Sonic Team would get their act together and make something great that they wouldn't have to feel ashamed for their clear, undying love and devotion for the series.
So, when they showed themselves capable of admitting their faults, and refocusing themselves on making something that was completely new, and refreshing—I still cracked jokes, but—I started to root for them, too... and I'll tell you right now, that this era of the comic feels at times more homestuck than Homestuck proper.
These characters are no longer pastiches, or flanderized amalgamations of their various assorted stereotypes, but have a renewed sense of depth, and mature emotional resilience that I found criminally lacking as Homestuck drew to a close.
I've been very vocal about my opinions on Homestuck's "ending," if you can even call it that. It was made by fans, for fans; and it ultimately had nothing important to say about anything actually impactful. All of the themes of adolescence, and child soldiers, and societal indoctrination, and the cold calculus of war were thrown out in favor of the black and white brutality of "Big green man video game boss needs beating," and it's nice to see that depth woven back into the world again.
I'm not going to go into any spoilers, but a few standout moments to me were Jake's speech about believing in all the other Janes enough to give up on the monster this one had become, and Rose opening up about her insecurities with her sociopath of a father, where we realized along with him that he genuinely loves her, and didn't want the burden of being in control. Also, Vriska's whole dream sequence was a very close second that I'd feel guilty to not lend its flowers. (They managed to make me give a shit about her again, and that's an ASK! I was so sick of her raggedy, tired ass schtick! Grow up, bitch!) I'm not sure that the former team would have bothered with those scenes, and they're the most gripping parts of the story, for me.
We're still here because of these characters, and the fact that the authors finally understand that, and are developing them in ways that seem both natural, and respectful, have done more to heal the reputation of this franchise for me than any big multimedia push from the likes of Viz Media, or even Andrew Hussie himself would have, ever, achieved.
Now, we have a chance to see something new, and ambitious. I was cautiously optimistic before, and now I'm essentially just overcome with hope. If this is what we should come to expect from Homestuck in the near future, then we've actually got quite the incredible life ahead of us.
I can't help but look forward to it. How about you?
my reaction to that information.....
I guess this is a thing that's happening.

I think what would greatly benefit everyone's understanding of orv's worldbuilding is a passing aquaintance with the Cthulhu wiki. and this is the one and only case where the wiki is a BETTER source of information than the original works by Lovecraft, because the Cthulhu mythos is a "collaborative writing shared universe" and who's worldbuilding is vague and contradictory between authors. think Maurauders fandom or SCP foundation, only more classy than fanfiction.
Anyway, ORV takes a lot from the Cthulhu mythos, because it takes a lot from every myth in the world. The whole Outer God thing will make a lot more sense if you know what its supposed to be, the same way its easier to understand the Olympus constellations if you know the greek gods and their myths. The Majority of characters in orv are real mythological or historical figures and the outer gods are no different, I and maybe you are just less familiar with them.
Heres a small glossary of relevant information:
1. "great old ones" are sometimes mentioned in orv as spying on Kim Dokja, and mentioned by other Outer Gods as the most powerful beings. they're from the lovecraft stories.

They are "beyond imagination" i.e beyond Oldest Dream's Star Stream/the universe comprehended by humans and exist outside of it.
2. "The Great One" is what outer gods in ORV call the Oldest Dream. He seems to be the only Great One in the orv universe, but In the myths there are multiple and are described like this.

Gods of the dreamlands->oldest dream the connection is there. Take notice of how the Great One is protected by Nyarlathotep, hes important.
3. Have you ever wondered what was up with those "Shantaks" living in N'gai forest? These are from the myths too.

They have horse head like in orv and Nyarlathotep rules over/is allied with them.
4. The Nameless Mist that attacks the 73rd demon realm and causes KDJ to sign the outer god contract with SP and get sent to 1863rd round is also an Outer God from the myths. Specifically, it is one of Nyarlathotep's siblings.
5. Best for last, there is of course Nyarlathotep himself i.e The Crawling Chaos i.e Secretive Plotter.
Kim Dokja straight up thinks that SP is Nyarlathotep and calls him that to his face. he is right. While SP "neither confirms or denys being the Crawling Chaos/Nyarlathotep" he obviously...is him. (SP lies about his identity a lot. but this time he didnt even say he WASNT, just that it doesnt matter and to call him SP please). SingShong basically plagiarised everything about him completely from lovecraft
First of all, in their first meeting SP looks like a black shadow person with glowing white eyes, which is why Kim Dokja drew the conclusion that he was Nyarlathotep, since this is how he looks too

Nyarlathotep is the avatar of other outer gods an has a clear personality and is more rational and human than the rest (KDJ says this bout SP too)- he hates his masters (like SP hates his sponsor).

Kim Dokja once says that SP is like no other outer god because he actually speaks human language and can communicate clearly and rationally. Nyarlathotep is the only outer god who can do that and is the messager of them.

The event referenced here where Nyarlathotep causes people to go insane is mentioned in ORV too, as SP talked to the Recorders of Fear and drove them to insanity. He has darkness powers and knows the future of the universe that no one else does.
He looks like a human being and has a thousand different forms (like the different regressions).

He can shapeshift and possess people (SP does both. shapeshifts into YJH and possesses him)
Also as previously mentioned he protects the Great One (OD) and rules over Shantaks in the forest. On top of looking exactly like Nyarlathotep and having the same abilities as him and the same role and traits and literally getting told "You are Nyarlathotep" by Kim Dokja I think it is pretty safe to say that he IS Nyarlathotep.
Also, the reason why KDJ thinks SP can beat The Nameless Mist and calls him is because he thinks that is SP's/Nyarlathotep's sister. which is just kind of funny to me. go get your sibling dude its eating my planet

Digimon Adventure Tri: why it's more than you think
Originally posted on Reddit.
I believe Digimon Adventure Tri deserves a more careful, emotionally attuned rereading. I'm not here to claim absolute truth. I just want to share what I understood and felt, hoping this might encourage viewers to see the work through a different lens, especially if they're open to reevaluating it.
Tri isn't broken, it's fractured on purpose
Tri is not a classic sequel. It doesn't try to replicate the adventure spirit of the original series. Instead, it dares to explore a more introspective and emotional space. I've read some people saying that there are many subplots. But if you pay attention, everything that seems scattered is actually tied together by one common thread: the dissonance between who they once were, and who they begin to be when life stops giving easy answers.
I understand that not everyone wants to see their childhood characters grow up. That's valid. Sometimes we'd rather keep them frozen in time, running across the digiworld without ever facing heartbreak or existential crisis.
But Tri proposes something different.
It doesn't ask us to return to who we were, it asks us to acknowledge that we've changed. It shows that heroes can hesitate, that bonds can shift, and that searching for meaning is part of the fight too.
I find it moving that these characters have grown, that they're still evolving, each in their own way. That gives me hope. Because evolving doesn't always look like a flashy transformation. Sometimes it looks like staying, questioning, choosing not to run.
And if this stage doesn't resonate with you, that's okay too. Maybe it wasn't your moment. Or maybe your connection to Adventure lives on a different plane.
The beauty is that nothing takes away what came before or what comes after. It just gains new layers over time.
An emotional, not conventional structure
Tri doesn't talk about an external enemy. It speaks of an internal fracture.
From the very beginning, it tells us:
“Demiurge, the soulless creator... Idea, the true form of the world...”
This isn't just poetic dressing, it's the story's thesis. The Digital World was created as a system, but one that never truly understood the beings it would hold. The infection corrupting digimon isn't just a virus. It's a metaphor, a crack in the digital soul.
Tri doesn't follow the traditional "adventure-enemy-digivolution" formula. Its core conflict often comes in silences, glances, inner contradictions.
What hurts isn't always what happens. Sometimes it's the feelings too complex to name.
Taichi hasn't lost his courage, he's transformed it into responsibility.
Yamato isn't angry for drama's sake, he's frustrated because he doesn't know how to reach Taichi anymore.
Sora doesn't fade, she's depleted from holding everyone together while forgetting how to hold herself.
Joe isn't a coward, he's the first to confront doubt.
Mimi isn't shallow, she's defending her authenticity in a world that tries to mute it.
Koushiro isn't just the genius, he's a child who made logic his shield to avoid emotional collapse.
Takeru isn't just the optimist, his quiet strength is how he doesn't get pulled under by others' pain.
Hikari isn't just light, she's a channel. Her sensitivity connects her to the invisible, but it also makes her deeply vulnerable.
Meiko isn't a mistake, she's the weight of quiet guilt and undeserved blame.
Himekawa isn't a villain, she's a warning, consumed by a love that couldn't let go.
Nishijima isn't a mentor, he's a man who regrets arriving too late.
A symbolic reading of the Digital World
Tri challenges the Digital World's mythology. It introduces concepts like the Demiurge (imperfect creator) and Idea (true essence), pulling from gnostic and platonic philosophy. The infection is not just a digital bug. It's the result of a world built without understanding the emotions that would one day inhabit it.
Distortions in space, corrupted binary code (like the unexplained "2" in a system built on 0 and 1), the merging of realities, and the appearance of soulless replicas like Imperialdramon, none of it is random. It all speaks to a world collapsing from within, not due to external battles.
A quiet story of transformation
At the beginning of this story, Taichi wants to bring everyone back together, but time has passed. They've taken different paths, changed in ways that aren't always compatible. It's not about caring less. It's about learning that closeness sometimes fades without meaning to, and that trying to reclaim it isn't always simple.
A common criticism is that Taichi now hesitates and that this is regression.
Taichi's hesitation isn't fear, it's awareness. A pause. A question: can I still protect, without hurting anyone?
This isn't a contradiction, it's a continuation.
Let’s go back to Adventure:
Episode 16: SkullGreymon emerges from his recklessness
Episode 45: his leadership fractures the group
Episode 48: we see him doubt and we learn the origin of his guilt, blaming himself for Hikari's near death as a child.
02 never explored that aftermath. The story shifted focus to a new cast. But Tri picks up that thread and now Taichi isn't afraid of danger, he's afraid of causing harm. That’s not cowardice, it's growth.
And in that pause, we glimpse the roots of the future Taichi, who will one day become a diplomat, working for coexistence between humans and digimon.
Yamato doesn't understand the change, and he pushes, hoping to ignite the old spark. But underneath the anger is the fear of losing a connection that once felt unbreakable.
Meanwhile, the Digital World is fracturing.
Not from outside danger, but from the blurring lines between emotion and system, past and present, role and identity.
Soulless Systems
These aren't classic "villains":
Yggdrasill is not an evil mastermind or alien invader. It's a symbolic, near-divine system that governs without empathy. Cold, logical, and utterly disconnected. It never appears because it doesn't need to. Its will is carried out through proxies like Alphamon, corrupted Gennai, and even manipulated humans. Yggdrasill represents the idea of a creator that has lost touch with its creation, a divine absence rather than a presence.
Alphamon is not an enemy. He's an executor without voice or motive. He doesn't speak, doesn't hate, doesn't choose. He deletes threats because that is his function. He is kind of a ghost in armor, a weapon with no soul, following the will of a broken god.
Homeostasis is not the "good side". It's a system that seeks balance. A bodiless, emotionless protocol whose only priority is to restore order when chaos threatens to collapse the Digital World. It doesn't act out of empathy or cruelty, it simply follows its function. It doesn't shift because it changes its mind, but because its compass is not moral, it's systemic. It speaks through vessels (like Hikari) and intervenes not with force, but by rebooting what’s broken to restore balance.
Hackmon / Jesmon is not a friend or foe. He is the system's messenger. He watches from the shadows, especially focused on Meicoomon, whom he perceives as a destabilizing anomaly. But Hackmon doesn't act on feeling. He is the voice of Homeostasis. Its blade. And when observation is no longer enough, he digivolves into Jesmon. But Jesmon is not hope, is protocol. A final measure. He doesn't come to save, he comes to execute.
When the system doesn't grasp the soul
In a world where connections become unpredictable, systems try to fix what they don't understand.
But emotions can't be repaired or deleted with code.
It's there, amidst reboots and algorithms, that the chosen children must decide whether to obey or to choose.
Meicoomon, a rift in the soul
Meicoomon isn't just an infected digimon, she contains Libra, which can't be controlled or regulated.. Her bond with Meiko is the most fragile, yet it's also honest.
Meiko, a chosen child who struggles to understand and bear her role, still chooses to stay. She remains, even when she feels she's the source of the pain, and even when her presence brings discomfort to others.
Libra, the code sealed in the soul
Libra is more than just a virus or a system error. It's an anomaly within the code, a burden sealed within Meicoomon from her origin. Imagine it as a living archive, holding the emotional record of the Digital World before its reboot: light and shadow, order and chaos.
To safeguard this data, it was encrypted inside her, unbeknownst to her and beyond her capacity to handle.
But Meicoomon was not created to carry such a burden. Her sensitivity and natural instability made her vulnerable to that information. It overwhelmed her, turning her into a contradiction of innocence and chaos.
Libra is not her fault. It's the Digital World's doing for putting such a heavy burden on a digimon who simply deserved to exist.
The Reboot: resetting isn't healing
The reboot wasn't a mere narrative whim or an attempt to "fix" the Digital World. It was an emergency measure. The infection had destabilized the system so severely that Homeostasis executed its last resort to restore balance: a complete reset.
This reboot came with an incredibly high cost: the loss of memories, of everything shared between the chosen children and their partners.
It wasn't an act of malice, but one of coldness. A systemic protocol that simply doesn't account for emotions. For Homeostasis, a bond is just another variable in the equation of balance.
Some criticize the reboot for "failing" because Meicoomon remained infected. But that's precisely the point: Libra wasn't a superficial error. It was a deep rift, inscribed in her soul. It wasn't just digital, it was existential. And that can't be erased with a reset. Systems can be rebooted, but the soul cannot.
Yet, even though the reboot failed in its ultimate goal, the most valuable outcome was this: even without memories, without data, without prior programming... the bonds found their way back. Because some connections don't depend on memory. Some encounters transcend code. When the soul recognizes another, it doesn't need reasons. It simply responds.
Tri shows us that some connections can't be explained, they can only be felt. These are the bonds that endure, even through forgetfulness and loss.
And it's within this very mystery, something that completely eludes rigid systems, that the emotional and the intangible begin.
The "canon" isn't broken, the story has layers
The absence of the 02 kids has been one of the most persistent criticisms of Tri. However, from the first episode, their disappearance is presented as a deliberate choice, not an oversight. It's not a case of forgetting or erasing them. It was about narrowing the focus. Also, a narrative void designed to generate uncertainty, and that uncertainty is a key part of the emotional tone the story aims to convey.
Alphamon defeats them off-screen, and while this bothers their fans, it also emphasizes a crucial point: this isn't their story. It's the story of the original chosen children. Of those who are drifting apart and question if they are still the same people. Himekawa deceives them, telling them everything is fine, much like the system watches them silently. This manipulation also reflects an uncomfortable truth: sometimes, we grow up believing everything remains as it was, until it no longer does.
And when Imperialdramon appears in Episode 8 “Determination - Part 4”, it does so as a shadow. Not as the return of a beloved digimon, but as an anomaly. Daisuke and Ken aren't there. There's no digivice, no connection. It's a silent replica that attacks as if the Digital World were projecting a broken memory.
Could the pain of their absence have been explored more deeply? Maybe. But Tri chooses to focus its lens. It doesn't erase or contradict, it simply pauses at a different stage: the stage of those who are present. Those who, without intending to, also somewhat disappeared from themselves.
Perhaps Tri wasn't created to please. Perhaps it was created to make us feel.
Not all errors are failures
Tri isn't perfect. There are narrative moments that could have been more polished, and even the technical aspects of the art could have been refined. Yet, as a whole, it's a work that takes risks and proposes new ideas. It shifts the focus from "what happens" to "what we feel".
And for a series built on emotion and evolution, that might be one of the most natural next steps it could take.
What Tri tells us (if we dare to listen)
Tri shows us that growing up isn't just about leaving things behind, it's about relearning who you are when everything changes.
It shows us that sometimes, bonds break without anyone being at fault.
It reminds us that you can't always save another person, but you can stay, watch, feel, and simply be there.
And above all, Tri makes us realize a powerful truth: that bonds, even if they fade, change, or cause pain, are still what makes life truly meaningful. Because to feel, to doubt, to make mistakes, and to try again with another, that is truly to evolve, and it's absolutely worth it.
Recommendations for a better viewing experience
Divide it into chapters. I know Tri was originally released as OVAs, but you might find it on platforms like Crunchyroll, which divides it into episodes. This makes it easier to digest its emotional pacing.
Watch at least these prequels beforehand: Digimon Adventure, Our War Game and Digimon Adventure 02. Not because they're strictly mandatory, but because I think Tri is in direct conversation with the memories and events of those stories.
Choose the original japanese audio with subtitles. The dubs (especially in english and spanish) often contain significant errors that distort the emotional message. The original japanese voice acting is also rich with subtle nuances.
Avoid external noise. Don't let soulless criticisms or external expectations contaminate your experience. Watch Tri with a clear mind and open heart. Let the story unfold and speak to you, at your own pace, in your own way.
If it helps, approach it as a side story. Think of Tri less as a continuation and more as an exploration of this particular stage in the original Adventure kids' lives.
And if Tri wasn't for you, that's perfectly fine. Don't worry. It doesn't ruin anything, and it doesn't change anything. You can simply choose to omit its existence, or you can enjoy the layers it adds as it leads us toward the epilogue of Adventure 02.
Thanks for reading. If Tri also stirred something within you, offered you comfort, or left you with questions... it's truly wonderful to inhabit that space with you.

so..... kriselle. right guys?
⚠ DELTARUNE CHAPTER 3+4 SPOILERS ⚠
tw// csa mention
horror has always had somewhat of an inherent sexual (and queer) undertone to it but it doesnt mean that you cant write it without it- i love horror that blends real life psychology and human experience with the otherworldly because there is SO MUCH you can do with it and it gets scary because most of the time it feels like something that could actually happen under the right circumstances… although when youre including a supernatural element (such as the player) the circumstances change and you need to recategorize and take more care to understand certain actions while still being conscious so that you are not just writing something torture porn-esque. this is an otherworldly entity (the player) taking the place of the human (kris) and acting within human bounds (kris cannot shapeshift or anything like that, we're limited to what their human body is capable of) to perpetuate the horror.
in context of the couch scene this is the moment that kris can no longer hide the existence of the other entity inside them from noelle. the secret is entirely out in the open and noelle knows that there is something unbelievably wrong with kris. i dont think noelle understands that it's us, the player, doing this to her because she doesn't know its a game but she absolutely knows that whoever it is is not kris. we are forcing noelle to confont that it was all real, it wasn't a dream, and it finally snaps her when we put the thorn (i.e. thornring) back on her finger. we've pushed noelle to her limit, 'used up' all of who noelle originally was and forcibly turned her into another vessel for our actions.
i dont think it represents her innocence/purity being tarnished or taken really. the loss of innocence is a common trope explored in horror, but i personally feel like this is more the loss of autonomy than the loss of innocence. the thorn is representative of our control over noelle, we force kris to pierce it back through her hand during the couch scene which cements our authority over her. i understand why people could interpret the scene as the loss of innocence, with the rose wilting it could be read like an allegory for deflowering, but i believe that the scene is moreso just us removing her limitations. even not on the weird route, noelle exhibits behaviours of wanting to strangle berdly and take control of her life for once, whether joking or not. she was already really fascinated by her own power in ch2, finding out that yes actually she isnt powerless and she can take things for herself, as long as she listens to kris- hence her saying 'Thank you.' towards the end of the route. i honestly dont think this is the game, the characters, or the fandom to explore that kind of topic with. keep in mind, kris and noelle are kids- i would rather die than have one of the big ships and driving forces for the weird route in deltarune be sexualized minors. a LOT of people in this fandom are minors as well. it being an allegory for csa would just be... too heavy and too out of place for deltarune. if it was csa, for it to happen this early honestly concerns me for how the weird route would continue in the future because you can't really get worse than that without abandoning all your morality to enjoy the game. also, this is a switch 2 launch title with some of the most hype surrounding it ive seen for a game. not sure if nintendo would be cool with one of their big launch titles having a blatant csa scene between two kids, but then again im not nintendo and you are allowed to view it this way if you want to.
another big point is that these actions are our own. they're our choices. this isn't kris, its us, the player. i do not want to be responsible for the sa of noelle, i wouldnt want to play a game where im forced to commit csa. it doesn't feel right. i don't think toby would put that into deltarune.
what makes weird route kriselle so interesting is that kris doesnt want this. when noelle is close to kris and she begins to trigger the downfall of events, kris is trying to cover her mouth desperately to stop her. kris wants nothing more than to keep noelle from experiencing everything all over again. it's not just kris abusing noelle torture compilation. with not only closet scene where kris is trying to hit us with the hockey stick but also the bathroom scene we see just how fucking ANGRY kris is at us- literally beating the shit out of the soul…. both in a 'why would you ever make me do this?' way but also in a 'you broke her' way.
we've taken these childhood friends with such a strong connection and forced them to rip themselves to shreds. we've broken them to their core. i don't think noelle is capable of saving kris, i don't think she wants to anymore. in the few moments she had left between the start and the end of the couch scene, she's lost that will.
noelle's now broken, she's lost herself because we took her autonomy. just like kris. a cage. a vessel. we've given her the power to take whatever she wants, we've removed her limitations, we've made her stronger.
as long as she listens to us.

what are your favourite comics of your favourite characters? jason, cass, mia, anybody you'd like to talk about! 🫶
Hi there! Unfortunately, I have forbidden myself from reading Batgirl 2000 until I am done with my master thesis (which so far appears to be done with me more than the other way around), deadline is in one month! So no Cass yet 😕 she motivates me though
Green Arrow 2001 is the Mia comic. So far of all the other Mia appearances I have read it's the only one I've enjoyed, but I'll say I haven't read Green Arrow/Black Canary and Green Arrow 2023 yet, very excited to see her in those! to go back to GA 2001, not only is that the comic with three different mia-centric arcs, but even in the arcs where she's not the main character, she's written with so much care and detail, it's just amazing. It also has my favourite Mia get-up, a black set-up with the big pants that none of her Speedy suits so far has lived up to. Also the attention to her hair is really great. I'm rambling I'm rambling, sorry. Just- Green Arrow 2001 is really cool. (I do have to say, I've been told it's not great for ollie and dinah- it was my intro to ollie and I still fell in love with his character but i can understand that compared to previous versions of him he's not as good. I love him though.)
For Jason, I'm a big fan of the whole original post-crisis jaybin run! Well. I'm a fan of Jason's characterization -Starlin's writing is often racist and sexist and pretty shitty, but if you approach it with a mentality of "Jason is right and Batman is wrong" it becomes often much more readable. Aditf in particular is racist as fuck, though the Jason characterization is good- Starlin is quite the incredible illustration of the "enemy of my enemy is my friend", yk. I also deeply adore Judy Koslovsky, she's one of my favourite minor batman characters. But my favourite Jaybin story is Batman #408-409 (which was written by Collins), it's just so good (though i'm unsure whether the batman criticism and classism conversation were intended or if it's just my reading - i don't care, it's great whether it meant to or not). Ma Gunn might just be my favourite Batman villain, she's the perfect mix of thematically relevant and camp, she doesn't need to be edgy to make a wonderful critique of Batman, she's a narrative foil for Batman and a Leslie parallel and thus the best option for introducing Jason's character. Granny McCrime truly nobody does it like you do, I'm sorry Scott Lobdell got his nasty paws on you. For Red Hood Jason, I don't know if I like Under the Hood ( i could write a 17 pages long essay on my love-hate relationship with it) but it sure is a comic, wow. Red Hood Lost Days is great, as long as I pretend that one sex scene isn't there (it was retconned, so i can do that anyway) it's my favourite Red Hood comic. You just have to like, ignore the psychoanalytical subtext tbh. Other than that, I have to finish TFZ and read TMWSL before making an opinion on those. Oh, I also really liked Jason in Batman: The Cult (which was almost an awesome horror story until Starlin fucked with gratuitous racism for no reason). Legends is also an awesome Jason comic, he's not in there long but I do love both his inferiority complex towards dick, his incredible bravery, and the way it explores child superheroes with the parallel between Jason and Billy and the way they're treated.
Barbara's also one of my favs, but I'm still reading through Birds of Prey 1999, so I don't think I have much to recommend beyond it so far- very eager to make a "best of barbara gordon" reading list as soon as I have read it! Especially curious about Oracle's first appearance in suicide squad, and maybe that Batgirl comic where she runs for mayor or something.
For Roy, I'm a big, big fan of Devin Grayson's Arsenal mini! Snowbirds don't Fly is also a reference or course, both as a drug psa (esp considering the time it was published) and as a Roy story. I haven't read much more of him yet tragically, but I did read that standalone Titans #19 (i think it was 19) while looking for Mia appearances, and I thought he was really really good in it.
And of course I can't not include one of my favourite characters, who I'd bet you might really really like, The Crimson Avenger! She's criminally underrated and underdeveloped, but despite how short her appearances are she's like -such a cool, well-rounded concept. I wish DC would let me write stories with her so so bad. I already made a reading list with links so I'm just linking it, she's just... So cool. A lot of the reasons I like her overlap with the reasons I like red hood jason also. Anyway check her out I promise you will not regret it!

don't know how people multi-fandom. dipped my toe into another one and immediately backed out bc everyone there was insufferable.
#ok i do know how ppl do it. the secret is having other moots in those fandoms#but i am an analysis and yapper girlie and reading the majority of y*ellowj*ckets takes are driving me up a WALL#[sorry y*llowj*ckets fandom rant starts here. tags contain spoilers for the s3 finale]#like i've lurked on the reddit and so many ppl there are dumb as rocks they don't even realize when a MAJOR PLOT POINT happens#but there are also some good takes on there once in a blue moon#and i enjoy how it's The Norm to call ppl out for being dumb as rocks abt things lmao. i love the argumentative nature of it#even tho i don't post there#on here tho? you get more nuanced takes but then you also get like 95% of the fandom who are blinded in various directions over their faves#and their rarepair / random ships. (and god forbid you express disliking a character. for valid reasons!)#and half of the fandom thinks everything they personally don't like / understand is Bad Writing#and another sizable part of the fandom is constantly chanting 'they're all bad! just pick ur fave and go!' whenever anyone wants to have#and nuanced discussion abt character morals / motivations or dares suggest that some of them are indeed less morally corrupt than others#a bunch of ppl are disappointed that they didn't get to see ALL the girls go feral and become 'crazy cannibals'#in the specific way they were imagining it would go from the pilot now that their time in the wilderness is pretty much up#EYE on the other hand enjoy the fact that most of the girls never truly descended to that level. never truly gave in to the wilderness#there have been moments for all of them sure. but in the end when it came down to the pit girl scene? the reality is most weren't into it#at all. the only ones who were really giving in were sh*na and l*ttie but everyone else was distraught over m*ri's death.#even with other characters using the hunt to conspire to take out sh*na l*ttie and possible t*issa like. in the end NONE of them could#go thru with it. which i think SAYS SOMETHING abt their character#sure they can plot all they want but when it came down to it m*lissa couldn't finish the job#and ahk*la realized that killing l*ttie in the caves would let IT in and change her forever so she backed down#ANYWAYS. just needed to Vent lol#maybe i will make this all a real post later lol (on my main bc that's where i post / rb yj content)

IM SO GLAD YOU SAID THAT ACTUALLY I SEE NO ONE ELSE TALKING ABOUT THAT ABOUT MCD LAURANCE AND IT SERIOUSLY RUSTLES MY JIMMIES
It is such a blatant allegory for sexual assault whether or not Jess wrote it with that intention or not THAT'S WHAT IT IS, and no one talks about it !! Like girl rubbed salt in the wound by selling him off for murder because he "didn't give her what she wanted" which is CRAZY but no one seems to acknowledge this because Laurance is a guy, but had it been like, I dunno, Michi had been a guy and Aphmau was the one saying this stuff everyone would LOSE THEIR SHIT about the implications which FRUSTRATES ME SO MUCH
And with her attention changing to Aaron in MyStreet it makes me even more upset cause not only is she like a serial abuser because of this but Aaron is stated to not even realize she was flirting with him nonetheless HARASSING AND ATTEMPTING TO ASSAULT HIM ??? Which imo only makes it worse because this just furthers the notion that men do not often know they're being harassed (which isn't entirely untrue thanks to how society says "men can't be assaulted by, they'd over power her !" which is blatantly untrue as assault and abuse happens in many different forms and isn't just instigated through sheer force)
Godd the Zane incident makes me so genuinely upset, as much as I love Garroth it made me wanna shake some sense into him LIKE BRO THAT'S YOU'RE LITTLE BROTHER AND YOU WONDER WHY YOUR RELATIONSHIP IS STRAINED WITH HIM 😭😭 and it definitely wasn't Kim's fault as it's blatantly stated that she DID NOT REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED she didn't even have memory of going into the room
And the whole thing with the Ghost being revealed to be Emmalyn also leaves a hugely sour taste in my mouth cause like,,, I mean in essence I understand it, and I'm pretty sure it was always the intention to have Ghost be Emmalyn as she stated that she "could only remember the name Zane" and whatnot and I get it's supposed to be a thing of like she didn't remember anything else but his name, probably due to how traumatic Emmalyn's experience with him was that it imprinted on her very spirit, but at the end of the day the way she portrayed it is just so,,, odd,,,, cause it's never explicitly brought up that "oh my irene wait that's the guy who abused and tortured me and killed my husband holy shit" ykwim ?? But that's what he did to Emmalyn, because in MCD he's a fucking asshole, but this never gets brought up to Kim and explained to her like,,, and the obsession with Zane is just,,, kinda not acknowledged ?? in season 6 ??
I agree tho, I mean I was never super huge into shipping the characters together when I'd first watched MCD,,, well any more than wanting to kiss Garroth and then having to come to terms with that not changing even ten years later when I return to MCD and MyStreet 😭 the hate was fucking crazy,,, I never interacted with fandom in my younger years something something social anxiety or whatever but hearing about it when returning all these years later is CRAZYYY OH MY GOD even back then I could never imagine HARASSING someone over a SHIP it's not that deep lil bro they're pixels on a screen
But what a beauty it is to be a multi-shipper coming into fandom spaces because yes <3<3<3 ship them all <3<3<3 HSJKSHDA
I am also very hesitant on it being animated because,,, mmm,,,, it's always a bit odd to see a Minecraft character with boobs 😭I'm just hoping the pacing is better with it - which is something I really liked about the MCD series because there were 100eps per season so she kinda HAD to take her time with thing and because of that was given the chance to world build her series a lot more
BUT YES I AGREE THE DESIGNS ARE SO JARRING
Katelyn,,, who is canonically sporty and has a punching bag in her room,,, should have SOOO much more muscle on her, she should be built like a martial artist at the VERY least, but it really feels like that issue that happens sometimes when it comes to romantically lead series where all the women look similar/the same (same face/body syndrome or having similar silhouettes due to an obvious bias of what the creator deems "attractive") where the men tend to have a lot of different characteristics,,, but like for both sides LOL but there is definitely a lack of character design that I would LOVEE to fix PLEASE I promise I can do it character design is my passion I love shape language I love dynamic models PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE--
ahem. anyway. I have mixed emotions about Season 7, but at the very least we get DnD night again,,, and maybe if we're lucky we can get a soft launch of Laurance's return (I'm coping MAJOR)
(And no worries about replying "too late" :) everyone's got a life and I get it lol)
I like Mystreet as much as the next person, I was a MCD person, and I'll always be a MCD person...with that being said, from time to time, I think about the comparisons for characters between the two properties...you know the usual, like the Mystreet Laurance and MCD Laurance, or sometimes Garroth, or even Katelyn...this rambling session isn't about them though, it's about Dante.
By far, Dante is one of my favorites in MCD. At first glance, he can be forgettable. He's not apart of the Aphmau love triangle, nor is he apart every adventure in season 2, but when you get the whole picture of MCD, he's character is amazing.
I mean, there's so much to him. His personality, his morals, his history...his family. Dante is a character that is easily expandable.
By far, one of the most important things about Dante, is his loyalty. This man, stayed 15 years in the same place because his Lord told him to, no matter how many offers for him to leave came up, he didn't, and that is extremely compelling.
With that said, it's time for Mystreet Dante...anyways! Dante in Mystreet (+ Phoenix Drop High) is quite different. First off, Dante in Mystreet is extremely flirty, to the point he's creepy and disrespectful. In Phoenix Drop High(mostly effecting Mystreet later on), Dante taught Travis creepy behaviors, such as touching others without their permission. Of course, this is all played for humor, Dante in Mystreet is all played for humor...even when his behaviors are far from it.
To add to this behavior, it's very obvious from the first episode of Mystreet, that Dante is supposed to be seen in a more love interest route, a route that Mystreet Aphmau realistically, doesn't chose. I find this odd, comparably, in MCD, Dante views Aphmau as a sister, and I'd like to believe Aphmau views Dante as brother, or at least as someone who is family...this really makes me wonder, why did Jessica, in Season 1 of Mystreet, put Dante in a love interest light? When she makes it very clear In MCD, that Dante doesn't view Aphmau in that way.
Another thing about Dante, that reloves around love, is his relationships, romantic relationships that is. In season 1 of Phoenix Drop, Dante not only dates Kawaii~Chan, but Nicole(An obvious reference to MCD). In MCD, The Kawaii~Chan and Nicole situation is taken as a situation that is sad and complicated. I'm not exactly sure on times, but Dante does Date Nicole for awhile, before she must go back to Scaleswind, and if I remember correctly, Nicole does ask Dante to go with her, but he refuses, because of his commitment to Phoenix Drop. After Nicole gets to Scaleswind, she finds she is with child, but then there's Kawaii~Chan. During the 15 year time skip, Kawaii~Chan travels a bit before settling back in Phoenix Drop. Dante and Kawaii~Chan only date after Dante and Nicole breakup...but eventually, Nicole comes for a visit. When Nicole visits, Kawaii~Chan is three months pregnant, while Nicole is also obviously pregnant. There is a very important thing to this situation, Dante doesn't know he is the father of Nicole's child. So for years after, Dante, lives unaware, until the child (Or Dimitri) sneaks away from Nicole, but after that gets sorted out, Dante steps up, he takes responsibility for Dimitri.
Now, none of that happens in Phoenix Drop High. It's just Dante dating Nicole and Kawaii~Chan at the same time. Of course, Dante deals with consequences of being a jerk to these two girls, because if I remember correctly, they dump him. I just can't help but think about it, since the two situations are very different in the priorities, one, doesn't make anyone a villain, it was a situation of major miscommunication, and as soon as every communicated, the situation turned into taking care of everyone and becoming a family. While in Phoenix Drop High, the situation is there to paint Dante as a major jerk, rightfully so, because he shouldn't be dating two people at the same time, but I just can't help but notice the two situations...and how they paint everyone in it.
There is only a few redeeming qualities of Mystreet Dante. He is funny sometimes, like in Dante and Travis the show. The changes between MCD Dante and Mystreet Dante, just makes me think about why...why did they change him so drastically? Was it just fit a trope, was it something deeper, or was it nothing at all, and I'm just thinking too deep?
(If I get any facts about MCD Dante wrong, please tell me, I haven't watched MCD in awhile)

people doing this whole "look at how rhaenys acted with corlys's bastard son vs how catelyn acted with jon snow" to demonize one or the other is weird because, like, maybe it's just me, but i think that catelyn and rhaenys had different reactions because they're different people in different situations.
#personal#like they're clearly very different people with different personalities#hell even the situations are different#rhaenys kinda stumbles upon corlys's bastard whose name i don't know cuz i'm not watching this season just kinda in passing#she knew he existed but didn't really have to deal with it at all#meanwhile ned comes home with this baby he says is a product of cheating and just goes 'he's living here now'#there's no space for catelyn to separate herself from the betrayal of fidelity the way that there likely was for rhaenys#like i'm not catelyn's biggest fan#not just because of her treatment of jon (altho yeah i'll be honest i'm not a fan) but there's stuff about her personality#and how she views the world and what being in her head is like that can rub me the wrong way#(she's just so constantly judgy and rude about nearly everyone she doesn't know and even some that she does and it can get exhausting)#but she's a different person to rhaenys and also occupies a different role than she does#rhaenys has a lot more going for her in her marriage than just being corlys's wife#she's got the bluer blood as a targaryen princess she's got a dragon she's got power and influence in her own right#meanwhile catelyn doesn't have nearly as much#she's a lord's daughter yeah but in this entirely new kingdom where she is now her power comes from being ned's wife#and mother to his children#in her head jon is a threat to that power due to being not only a reminder of ned's infidelity but also how his placement could supplant#her children and thus herself by extension#along with her just having a different personality to rhaenys that makes her harsher about it#(i mean i still don't LIKE that she takes it out on jon who certainly didn't ask to be born but i at least understand from characterization#and again: they're different people! no shit they'd react differently!#i'm just baffled at this attempt to pit GOT characters against HOTD characters all the time it's so weird#like now there's people arguing who's better between jace and robb stark and i'm just left baffled#do y'all literally not know how to consume content in any other way except petty fandom wars? my god you're annoying

#i'm getting vg critical takes on my dash again and let me be frank i don't mind people criticising the game#there are many criticisms to be made#but in regards to it and also specifically the lucanis romance#there are nuanced and valuable(i can't think of the right english word i want to use here) ways to look at his romance#somewhere between 'this romance is good actually and portrays a character with a different outlook than what we've seen before'#and 'his romance and overall story was shafted because of time constraints and financial issues in development'#and I just haven't seen the middle ground#like people CAN like the romance#i like the romance#without attacking other people for having different opinions or saying 'they dont understand him like I do'#<- the pixels aren't real and they're not going to fuck you#on the other hand#you can also say you didn't like the romance and thought it was lacklustre#without calling people who did stupid and corporate apologists#no just because i like the character/romance does not mean I think bioware/the devs are perfect#far from that#the writers too#and a lot of this stems from having treviso/minrathous as a last minute panic addition#instead of a well thought-out addition to the game#i like that the choice is there#i just wish they'd given it the time and attention it deserves#esp with regards to lucanis and what that means in a romance both with rook and neve#because say what you want the hardened route for him is incomplete sorry#and i do also think mary kirby added to this with the asexual tweet thing#babe just say you didn't have time to finish him#sah you were fired or don't like writing romance#be honest#and this goes out to the other devs and writers as well#just be honest#i can forgive you a lot more for that and then i can headcanon and finsih him how i want

Honestly exhausted sometimes with how many times I see people completely ignore basic literary tropes and elements or even the fact that these are books an not real people, while also interpreting interpretations until they've gotten away from what's on the page only to treat these readings as fact. Literally just saw someone cite Lily's mouth twitch as proof that she almost laughed at her friend being sexually assaulted and I don't even know what to say.
This is why I follow so few blogs and feel really isolated in this fandom. It's not even that I want to defend one character or another (because they're not real people ultimately, they're tools for storytelling), it's that I want to defend basic reading comprehension. A mouth twitch is not a laugh. And to be honest I'm uncomfortable with how straightforwardly we refer to James dangling Snape upside down and exposing his underwear as sexual assault, which is what it's considered now but it wasn't considered that in the 70s when the story takes place. That isn't to say it wasn't an awful thing to do, or that it wasn't meant to violate and humiliate, but social acceptance of an action changes its context. (I could write an entire post on how the reason we're so much more disturbed by sexual assault now is that the culture around it has changed and the shame is now on the perpetrator and not the victim, which means that more victims have spoken out in recent years, and most people today have heard victim's stories and perspectives and feel empathy for them as a result. But since this wasn't socially acceptable to do in the 70s people didn't lack empathy then, they just had a limited perspective that we would too if we were in their shoes. You can't frame the reactions to Snape's assault the same way you would if it happened today.)
But forget context, right? Forget the order of events, and forget what a character does, a personal reading of the text becomes canon because... of reasons? I think I just have a really really hard time with the way some people are oblivious to how intensely they project onto characters and how much they consider those projections facts. And with how personal readings are stated as fact without the context of, "I read/interpret/view/etc. this as."
#I know I'm annoying and salty and I own that but some of these posts read like they're written by middle schoolers#I genuinely look at posts sometimes and think “wow I feel really bad for whoever their English teacher is”#Watching the person who wrote that post say they don't understand Jilly has me screaming#Of course you don't they aren't meant to be understood they're barely two dimensional characters who are more plot device than character#A mouth twitch can also show internal conflict#or nervousness#It's absurd to me read someone state as fact that a character was amused and treat them as though they laughed when they were#described as showing a subtle reaction that could mean multiple things#of course they're confused - their reading is specific and certain in ways that are opposite to what the text is giving them

i can't take this anymore. not even with wrio stating from his own mouth sigewinne is his senior people get it inside their brains he's not a father figure to her and even with them telling us she was arrested and sentenced at the fortress people reach the conclusion she's not a child 😭
#i don't understand this insistence around both of them being fathers to her#even if you ship wrio and neuvi their found family dynamic doesn't have to be that#it doesn't cancel anything so why do people just lie 😂😂😂#it feels like i'm in an alternative reality because so many people just go omg they're her fathers it's canon#meanwhile it's neuvi shouting to the seven winds he's a dad to the melusines and wrio joking with him telling him he's like a father and#neuvi saying yeah i see myself that way#and then wrio answers traveler about sigewinne telling them she's been at the fortress for way longer than him and he sees her as his senio#so how the hell#how!!!!! do you see this and infere wrio is a father to her#how do you see him specifically say he doesn't and say he does 😂😂#i'm going insane#she took care of him#she saw him grow up#that's not a father-daughter dynamic#that's not how things work#wrio's not even like neuvi when it comes to her protection#he's not dad protective he's so expressive about her having her freedom her own choices how he trusts her word etc etc#he truly respects sigewinne equal to equal it's just she's naturally more vulnerable#and he obviously owes her and he also respects and cherishes neuvi and his trust in him to keep sigewinne safe#it doesn't mean he's a father#even irl you do not have to have a familial relationship with a step-parent. your parent can be in a relationship and you do not have to see#that person as a parent#so why is it the only option that people come up with for these characters? 😂 IT MAKES SO SENSE

i hate this thing some people in fandom do - probably especially younger fans - where they take a character who is a bad person and will just. attribute random Bad Actions to them with absolutely no thought to character consistency.
and like. it's just fandom, it's just headcanons, etc, it doesn't really matter. but I think it's another symptom of the black-and-white thinking a lot of younger people fall into, and I really wish it would just stop.
#blue personal ramblings#tags are gonna go off track a bit#but i have Feelings and dont wanna make a whole nother post#didnt expect my 'light would never plagiarise jfc' post to take off lol#it got me thinking#but also like. OP of the post i was referencing hasnt even seen/read death note#and that's another thing i dont get like how are you gonna write headcanons for stories you dont even know#for characters you clearly dont understand#could not be me lol i have way too much anxiety about getting things wrong#and again this doesnt really matter because it's just fandom#and people can choose to participate however they want#so im not saying ppl shouldnt post about fandoms they're not in#im just saying i dont get it.#what bothers me way more than the post itself is how many notes it has#People Are Wrong On The Internet!!!!

I'm doing nothing right now, and to kill time (because I can't write requests from here), I decided to bring up this TWST idea that's been plaguing my mind.
A Yuu who's a parent
And I'm not talking about a Yuu who's a teenage or young parent, no, I'm talking about an adult Yuu, of legal age, who has had a job for YEARS, EVEN HAVE MULTIPLE CHILDREN!!
Who had the bad luck of being run over by the black carriage while doing something mundane like taking out the trash or coming home from work😅
Can you imagine the characters' reactions to an adult man/woman appearing out of nowhere at the entrance ceremony? Not even a member of the staff, just a random human without magic who is suddenly surrounded by teenage boys (almost the same age as their children).
An adult Yuu can probably "make themself understood" better by Crowley than a minor Yuu, since they understand the gravity of the situation and their basic civil rights, especially how to negotiate. Of course, that doesn't mean the Ramshakle dorm room is spotless, but at least it's fixed faster than in canon.
OH GOD, GRIM! Part of me thinks Grim would have more patience/respect for an adult Yuu, and the other part knows that's a complete lie. Although at least Grim seems to have more trust in this new maternal/paternal figure in his life.
Did you see how Inosuke gets when Tanjiro is friendly to him? That's Grim every time YuuMom/Dad says something maternal/paternal to him or is friendly/patient with him.
Ace is still a little shit at first, obviously, but I think he softens quickly, just like in canon. DEUCE, on the other hand, is almost immediately bland. Yuu reminds him so much of his mother that it's not even funny. If you thought these two were protective of the normal Yuu, brace yourself. This is THEIR PARENT NOW, AND THEY'RE THE ONLY ONES WHO DISRESPECT THEM>:(
Their relationships with the other dorm leaders would be just as funny and/or cute.
Riddle DEFINITELY needs a Yuumom/Dad in his life the most. Even though their first interaction was probably fatal (no parent, ESPECIALLY a JAPANESE one, would put up with Riddle's tantrums), I can see Riddle being naturally drawn to them these days.
This kid needs a father/mother figure who makes him understand that making mistakes is a way of learning, and Yuumom/Dad help make learning fun! Just like the Robinson family.
I also get the feeling Riddle would like to know the basics of the original work/world of Yuu (especially if they work in a field like a doctor or lawyer) and it ends up being a two-way street, with Riddle learning about Yuu's world and them learning about Twisted Wonderland.
Leona, another who needs someone to recognize him as his own person and not as a hindrance or a lesser version of his brother. It's obviously one of the hardest to have a positive relationship, but not impossible. Especially after Book 3, where Leona sees Yuu in a more respectful light instead of annoying.
They do the typical things you'd think of as a parent-child relationship, like when Yuu does certain things like scold Leona for sleeping too much, skipping classes, and straightening his uniform—things Leona complains about but doesn't stop them. It's a rare kind of positive attention.
Or when Yuu congratulates him on something specific they NOTICED he's improved, when they let him wander around the ramshakle dorm, etc. Let's just say it's an unwritten rule in Savanaclaw not to mess with Yuumom/dad from now on.
Azul also has a certain trick. He probably had more trouble with an adult Yuu than a student due to, well, life's advantages (any adult knows that contracts made by minors aren't valid—) and ends up having a mixture of fear and respect for them.
Fortunately, there's also a certain soft spot for Yuu, especially because of his age and paternal/maternal attitude. they probably reminds him of his mom.
For that reason, it's not unusual for Yuu to end up going to the Monster Lounge from time to time just to catch up with Azul, make sure he's not doing anything suspicious, and get something to eat. The usual.
KALIM. LOVES. YUUMOM/DAD. Yuu can barely keep up with all his energy, but it's contagious.
Jamil will have to get Kalim to tone down the intensity a few notches for the sake of Yuu's blood pressure, especially if he wants to surprise them with a magic carpet ride. they liked it! they swears! Just let them know next time!
they are also a great source of comfort after Jamil's Overplot. Let's just say that with their help, Kalim is trying to learn a few things about social norms.
Have you seen that typical mom/dad style of dress? Mothers in plain/patterned blouses and fathers in knee-length pants? Yep, that's Yuumom/dad. And Vil won't STAND IT. Practically their first interaction is picking out a new wardrobe for them. IT BURNS HIS EYES--
Aside from that, I can see Vil being genuinely flustered when Yuu criticizes his behavior, whether out of habit or because, well, parents are good at making points (and knowing the entertainment industry, very few adults care THAT much).
There's also the fact that Yuu's compliments are painfully sweet and genuine, like that "you're such a handsome young man!" meme, and Vil can't help but feel more arrogant than usual when Yuu compliments him like that. Parental stuff.
Idia ironically has a good relationship (within reason) with his parents, but that doesn't mean he's scared of Yuu at first, precisely because there's nothing more terrifying than seeing them angry.
He's also bothered by Yuu trying to get him out of his room so often, or by joining Ortho in bringing him food that isn't fast food. Damn it, he gets it!
He's a huge tsundere, which is why he hasn't banned them from Ignihide after all.
Malleus is definitely the one who most relies on Yuumom/dad's positive attention. Not only does this human lack fear of him, but they treats him like a normal teenager, with normal problems, even going so far as to scold him when he deserves it. What does Yuu care if he's a prince? He speaks to people with respect!
Yuu has so much power that he can make Malleus apologize by sounding arrogant, stop him from electrocuting people, or make him think about his actions, all because Malleus would rather put aside his ego than think that his new friend/father/Mother figure is angry with him :(
Thanks to this, Malleus goes to the ramshakle dorm even more often than expected, whether it's to tell Yuu something new he learned about the school's gargoyles, ask for advice on how to make friends, etc.
I like to think that this Yuu is very homesick for being around the kids, especially if they have children at home waiting for them. Which probably does something unusual: it causes the principals to unite to pressure Crowley to return home as soon as possible.
They have grown attached to Yuumom/dad, yes, but the thought that Yuu's children don't have their parent, that they are waiting for their return, that they are suffering, twists their stomachs.
Until then, They'll be in charge of protecting Yuu as much as possible until they can return home to their family!
__________
KALIM. AMA. A. YUUMOM/DAD.
Shares, reblogs and comments are very welcome!
Let me know if you want me to share any more ideas I have for Yuus!

the narrative/visual cues in this scene from 1x01 are so important to how the show views mel and langdon’s dynamic and i need to talk about it lol
robby doesn’t really have any friends, nor does he want any. while he is obviously willing to mentor those junior to him at the pitt, he is also very clearly uninterested in their personal lives (with the exception of collins). he’s able to support them when it comes to difficulties on the job but it doesn’t go much further than that.
the issue there is that most of the characters are not leaving their work at work (including robby himself lmao). it is seemingly going home with them and impacting the other parts of their lives. ultimately, they all need to connect with others who understand that feeling and can help them navigate it. mel isn’t as guarded as the rest of them so she makes it pretty apparent that she’s looking for this kind of connection (speaking of, can everyone pls just be friends with her already??? jfc). langdon is more subtle about it, but he's also looking for the exact same thing.
his exchange with robby in this scene is so telling because he clearly sees robby as one of his best friends and robby can barely admit that they're friends at all (which....brutal). langdon is asking for emotional connection/reassurance in that moment and, essentially, being rejected.
and right as this rejection is occurring, mel enters the scene (both literally and figuratively lol). mel, who wants emotional connection and is very willing to give it in return. it feels like a little wink from the show letting you know that these two are going to be actual friends. it’s also a perfectly written starting point for the parallel between robby and langdon’s mentor-mentee relationship and the one that comes to exist between langdon and mel. whereas robby is not attuned enough to langdon to notice his struggles, langdon is constantly checking in with mel to make sure she’s doing okay and then offering up support when she needs it. langdon's not perfect at it and he missteps a few times when it comes to her, but it feels a lot like he is treating mel the way he wishes robby would treat him </3
you then have the added intrigue of robby watching langdon and mel interact for the first time and looking for collins immediately after. as if something about those two possibly reminded robby of himself and collins. i just find the choice to visually parallel langdon/mel and robby/collins in 1x01 to be very curious now that we know robby and collins were romantically involved. and i don’t have much more to say regarding that other than 👀👀👀
tl;dr the framing of mel and langdon’s first real interaction on the show really highlights how important they are/will be to one another.
#well!#im back!#haven't been active on tumblr in almost a decade but coming out of retirement for this one#but i guess this is how insane these two have made me#and i didn't even mention how their backstories feel almost TOO perfect for where the show is likely going in s2#miss “every doctor should spend time at the VA” and mr. chronic pain/addiction are going to be genuinely insane in s2#kingdon#melfrank#langdonmel#melissa king#mel king#frank langdon#the pitt#leigh babbles

— 𝐀𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐈 𝐂𝐀𝐍 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐑𝐘 𝐘𝐎𝐔! | bllk boys
✶ plot: the character gives your sibling the chance to go down on the field with him before the game, and this leads you to think that maybe he really is someone you could marry since he shows so much care. idk if you know when before the matches the players of the teams go out on the field during the anthem, often with the players there are kids! it's such a cuteee thinggg (╥﹏╥)
✶ characters: sae itoshi, rin itoshi, micheal kaiser
✶ 𝐌𝐘 𝐌𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐋𝐈𝐒𝐓 ; take a look, trust me!
✶ ITOSHI SAE ᡣ𐭩 𓂃
In the noise of the arena, the Japanese anthem seems to almost fade into the background. The participants are much more focused on shouting, in announcing that the players are finally taking to the field after almost half an hour of delay due to an alleged accident of the German team bus, which had a flat tire. While you were waiting you often imagined the annoyed faces of your boyfriend, who surely threatened his manager to leave if the game didn't start at the scheduled time. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't, you don't know. He's definitely annoyed, but he didn't make it obvious probably because today your younger brother is with him. You still can't believe how your brother finally convinced Sae, after years of begging him. When you finally see both of them, you understand that it is not a dream and that your brother is actually in the most famous field in Spain
When you told your family that in Spain, during your Erasmus, you had met the man who was now your boyfriend, they hadn't worried. You hadn't specified that Sae, your boyfriend, your brother's favorite player, from the team that your family had supported for years even before you were born, was that man. When Sae and your family were introduced, your brother categorically decided that now you would no longer have another man in your life other than the ReAl midfielder. Not that you minded this obligation. But you were happy to see your brother so close to him and Sae who, strangely, treated him with kindness. It was probably because he also had a younger brother, he knew what it meant to be the eldest son
You had been with him for two years now, yet your brother had to beg him for a long time before he achieved his goal. Sae had not given in until then because he thought it was a way to invade his privacy and that of your family, but after seeing a photo of Rin and your brother he had agreed. You didn't even know why you wanted to compare a photo of your little brother and Rin as a newborn, but something had moved in Sae's heart, and now he and your brother were walking onto the field with an entire stadium chanting the name of the best midfielder of recent years, your amazing boyfriend
With your phone you film the scene, while your mother next to you starts to shed a few tears "Don't you think you're exaggerating?" you say, teasing her. The Spanish anthem starts, and the players line up in front of the crowd, the children in front of them and wearing smaller uniforms than the team. Your mother smiles "I'm so happy for Kuroi. He wanted it so much, and I understand why Sae didn't want to do it, and yet they're both there!" she says wiping away a tear
Sitting in the stands, you have the chance to be quite close to the players. Your brother notices you, and smilingly starts waving in your direction, proudly showing the jersey he is wearing: like the ReAl uniform, on the back he has "Sae" written and his number, 10. You record the scene and you notice how, in the video, you can see your boyfriend behind Kuroi looking at him curiously, maybe even a little proudly. While both sing the anthem, the children remain in front of the players even when the camera reflects the scene on the big screen of the stadium, also showing Kuroi with his excited eyes. Sae gives you an interested look when he notices your proud look, and you return it by blowing him a quick kiss. You see him roll his eyes, but you know he's calm, it's just the usual
"You know..." your mother says, and you turn around curiously "I think after this, you have no choice but to marry Sae. I don't think Kuroi would recover if you ever broke up, not after this" she says, and even though you know she's joking, her words hit you a little harder than usual. You and the ReAl player have been together for a while now, you never talked about marriage but it happened that you both admitted that you would like to spend the rest of your lives with each other. This relationship, Sae himself, has given you so much love that you know perfectly well that you could never have such a connection with anyone other than him. It's in the way that, even without words, his gestures speak: it's clear that he loves you, and you love him in a way that you can't even quantify
"That might be an option. I'm waiting for him to have the courage to get down on one knee" you joke, and your mother chuckles with you, patting you on the shoulder "If he had the courage to love you until today, I think marrying you is quite easy" she says, and you roll your eyes amusedly "Really funny"
Her words are not casual, not when Sae asked her for her blessing on your union a few weeks ago. He told her that it is not casual to have Kuroi with him on the field, and that after the end and victory of the match he intends to ask you to marry him in front of the entire stadium, but especially in front of your family. But you don't know this yet
✶ ITOSHI RIN ᡣ𐭩 𓂃
"Remember, you have to always stay close to Rin, if I see you running somewhere I swear to go down on the field and chase you in front of everyone in the stadium!" you say to your sister, but she giggles, hugging your boyfriend's leg. Rin ruffles her hair, letting out a sigh "She'll be good. She promised me, right Kae?" asks the youngest Itoshi, and your sister immediately nods "Of course big brother!" the little girl says, smiling happily, and you sigh, mentally telling yourself that everything will be fine "Okay... but I swear, if you act bad, it's the last time I'll make you do something like that. Mom didn't even fully agree..." you say exasperated, but you feel Rin's hand lightly squeeze your wrist "Don't worry so much. I'll take care of her"
Ever since Rin came into your life, your younger sister Kae has started to see him as the brother she never had. You have always been two daughters in the family, and even though both you and she wanted a brother, unfortunately you never had the chance to have one. When Rin made the transition from classmate to boyfriend five years ago, Kae was thrilled to welcome him into the family. He and she actually spend a lot of time together, and while Rin's character is extremely reserved and cold, you've never seen him act distant with your sister: it's wrong to say that they just love each other, they literally have a brotherly relationship. It warms your heart, especially when you plan on spending the rest of your life with this guy, since you've been a couple for a while now
Having Kae join Rin on the field was actually quite an unexpected idea. You and your boyfriend had spent the last few months in France for his special training, and only returned to Japan for your sister's tenth birthday. The problem arose when, on the plane, you both realized that you hadn't bought the birthday girl any presents: busy with the various preparations for the return trip, you hadn't bought anything in France. You realized it when you saw a little girl opening a present on the plane, and unexpectedly Rin saw the same scene at the same time and thought the same thing
On the evening of her birthday, after many hours of flying, Rin said that your gift for Kae would be to have her join him on the field in the next match, which would take place the following week against Italy. Kae had literally jumped out of her chair to hug both, even though your mother wasn't completely convinced, unlike your father who asked to be able to go on the field too. So now, as you go up to the stands to watch the game and the anthem, you think about how all this is so extraordinary and at the same time strange
When you sit down, the Japanese anthem begins to fill the stadium. You see Rin with his usual serious face and Kae, in front of him and wearing a Japan jersey, singing excitedly. You see in your sister's eyes an emotion that you have seen in her a few times, and thinking that all this is thanks to Rin makes you think a little more than usual: your relationship is not perfect, you argue like all normal couples, but you would never replace your beloved boyfriend with another person. You've loved each other since you were both fourteen, and now that he's on the Japanese national team and you've started college, your love has only grown. You're 19, but you both think you could go on forever like this, and that's exactly what makes you realize how much you really care about this relationship
Rin loves you, your family, your life and your soul. If that's not perfection, you don't know what is. You know that you both are still young and have goals, but if he asked you to marry him literally now, you would accept without regrets
The game begins, the kids going back to the locker room where you know your dad is waiting for Kae. You watch the rest of the game with them, while Kae tells everything Rin told her before she left, how good she was and how she wants to do it again. The match ends with Japan winning, with a goal scored by Rin himself: the whole stadium starts to shout, while you applaud happily. The journalists immediately take possession of the field and the players, and the same happens to Rin, who is captured by the cameras of the Japanese national TV. A reporter points the microphone at him, while your boyfriend lowers his water bottle
"Great match today, Itoshi Rin! No one expected less from the former Blue Lock number one. Do you miss the structure?" says the man, and Rin takes a few steps forward "It was a fundamental stage in my career, but half of the idiots who were with me are now in the national team, it hasn't changed that much" he says, and the man laughs "You're right, just today you scored with an assist from Isagi Yoichi, also a former number one. Speaking of other things, today a little girl came out on the field with you during the anthem..." he says, and Rin clears his throat "It was my girlfriend's younger sister. She's here too" he says, and the man smiles "I know! You both recently returned from France, didn't the city of love give you the chance to face an important stage in your relationship? After all, you've been together for a while" he says, and Rin raises an eyebrow "You mean Paris?" he asks, and the man nods "I'm talking about a possible marriage proposal in Paris" he says, and Rin's eyes widen a bit. He's silent for a few seconds, and then speaks slowly "I haven't had the chance... although we're both still very young. I might try next time"
Your father and Kae notice how you are almost paralyzed, a fierce blush that burns your face. Tonight you leave for Paris
✶ MICHEAL KAISER ᡣ𐭩 𓂃
"I wonder how he'll sing the German national anthem if he can barely speak" Kaiser says, and you think about it for a while. It's not a stupid question, but at the same time you don't want to think of an answer "I have no idea. You didn't know that until a few years ago, anyway" you say resting your head against his chest, and he tightens his grip on your waist "Remember to wait for him here. As soon as he's finished he'll come back to you" he says, and you nod "I know. I'll wait here"
Both you and Kaiser watch your brother being around the other kids who will be taking the field. Leon doesn't talk much, he's quite shy, but at the same time he always wants to be around other people. Both you and Kaiser think it's a bit of a weird behavior, but you don't worry too much, you think it's just something that will change as he grows up. Micheal, on the other hand, is the one who is a little more worried, but you can understand his behavior: as a child he never had the chance to be supervised by someone older, so he always had to correct his wrong or right behaviors himself. Leon has nothing, he is simply a child who is growing up, but Kaiser has always shown to be particularly fond of him. From the first moment they met, one winter evening three years ago, Leon became your boyfriend's favorite kid. Kaiser taught your brother to play soccer, and since he's gotten much better lately, Michael gave him the chance to stay with him before the match against Spain, during the German anthem
The team begins to line up, players calling out the kids they’ve been matched with. Kaiser leaves a kiss on your forehead, walking over to Leon "We gotta go. Are you ready?" he asks your brother, patting him on the back. He nods, taking his hand. You know how difficult physical contact is for Kaiser, but he has never refused to shake Leon's hand "Perfect. You have to promise me to shout the anthem, though. I want the whole stadium to hear your voice" he says, and you raise an eyebrow, while Leon also shakes his head, unsure "You have to, I want the whole stadium to know about you, the next striker of Bastard Munchen. Then you're with me, you don't have to be afraid, right?" says Kaiser teasing him, and Leon finally speaks "Okay Micheal..." he says, hiding his happy emotion
Kaiser nods in satisfaction, turning to you only briefly "Wait here, remember" he says, and you nod once more "I told you I’m not moving. Why are you so worried?" you ask, chuckling, but he sighs in amusement "You’ll see later" he says, and before you can ask him any questions he and your brother start walking down the stadium. The anthem starts in the stadium and all the players greet the crowd, while the children shout and laugh. You see Leon a little nervous, but a few words from Kaiser seem to calm him down
In your family, only you are capable of calming your brother's little moments of anxiety. You have always been the one to be his mother, and since Kaiser came into your life, he too has felt almost the duty to be there for your brother. Since he has been there too, only you and Micheal calm him. Leon could almost be your son, if he wasn't your little brother; it's something that both you and Michael think about, especially considering how important you both are to him. When you started being the girlfriend of the German prodigy, you never expected to see him so attached to your family, and honestly, you wouldn't have blamed him: Kaiser never had someone to call family, a group of people who taught him what love meant. You knew that bonding with your family wouldn't be easy for him, and yet it had happened so easily that for a second you thought you had misunderstood everything
What was yours had become his too. What you loved, your family, had become his family almost naturally, as if it was destined for your love and that of your relatives. You knew how much he cared, and it only made you even more proud to love him, of loving everything of Kaiser Micheal. You knew perfectly well his opinion on marriage, you knew how he was afraid of getting married because his parents had never given him an example of a healthy and loving marriage. You knew how much the idea of making a mistake, of becoming his father and locking you in a toxic marriage scared him, even if he had never pulled a hair on your head. You understood his motives and respected them, but if he ever asked you to be his wife, you knew full well that you would accept
You look over at your two treasures, and Leon seems to be having a blast as he shouts out the German national anthem, which is slowly coming to an end. Once again, Kaiser has managed to bring out the best in your brother, making the most enjoyable moment possible. As the music ends you approach the agreed upon spot, but you notice how the players are not starting to take their positions on the field. You raise an eyebrow, as the German team and the children slowly disappear from the pitch, while Leon runs towards you
"Come with me" your brother says, taking your hand and leading you down to the field "What do you want to do...?" you ask perplexed, shy in front of all the people's eyes. The soccer field empties completely, with only Kaiser left in the center. You watch him doubtfully as Leon takes you near him, leaving you once they reach the center of the field "Do you know anything?" you ask your brother, but he shakes his head "Just a little. Michael knows the rest" he says, chuckling, the laugh of someone who definitely knows everything. You remain in front of Kaiser, who however does not seem to give any answers to your doubtful look "What are you doing?" you ask for the umpteenth time, while you feel Leon's hand detach "Thank you. I owe you something" the German says to the boy, but he shakes his head "Nothing. Just make her happy" he says as he walks away, heading towards the edge of the field
In front of the eyes of the entire stadium, you and Kaiser remain. You begin to get nervous, while his calm gaze gives you absolutely no answer "Don't get nervous. Trust me" he says taking your hands, and you sigh resignedly "I don't want to die of anxiety" you say smiling nervously, and he nods "You won't die of anxiety. At least wait until you see the rest"
Kaiser clears his throat, taking a long breath. "Hello. No introduction needed, you already know perfectly well who I am. Maybe you know me for being your boyfriend, maybe for being the prodigy of an entire nation, but you are surely the only one who knows me as Michael, the same one who cried in your arms several times already. You know how my courage and narcissism are my signature, how my charisma is known by entire nations, or at least by their soccer teams. I always use my courage for myself, but never for others... and I thought I can do it once, just once for another person. One decisive time, that terrifies me but that you deserve. I thought about it for a long time, telling myself that we were fine the way we were, that we didn't need such a big gesture to confirm that I love you. But you are you, you have always gone beyond your limits to love me, to give me a sense of family and home that I never had. I want to use this courage for you, to ask you for something that I know scares me but that I want to do..." says the man. You see him kneel on one knee, opening a velvet box that reveals a ring with a blue sapphire
"... do you want to marry me, say yes to me in front of free Germany but above all in front of Leon?" says the man, showing you for the first time a completely new version of himself: that's not Kaiser Michael in front of you, that's not Kaiser, that's not even Michael. That's your Kaiser Michael, someone the whole world doesn't know but you know like yourself. Your hands are shaking as you try to cover your mouth and eyes that are slowly watering, but you can't ignore the emotion that's slowly eating you alive
"Of course I do" you say with a shaky voice, and the stadium erupts in a ferocious roar. Kaiser stands up, placing the ring on your finger before pulling you into a tight hug, burying his face in your shoulder "Thank you. Thank you for everything"
