Mass attacks that happened on December 8
There's a lot of mass attacks that've occured on December 8 (today), sooooo, why not make a post about the many attacks that happened on that day? Btw, this was originally gonna be posted on r/masskillers, but I got fcking banned there goddammit >:( So here's the people who committed mass attacks on that day:
David Esco Welch
On December 8, 1986, then 28/29-year-old David Esco Welch broke into his ex girlfriend's house in Oakland, California with his new girlfriend (Rita Lewis), and armed with a handgun, killed 6 people (including his ex, her 4 family members and a guest) while they were sleeping. 2 more people were injured in the attack. After that, he and his girlfriend were arrested, and David was given the death penalty, where he's now in death row awaiting execution. His girlfriend was sentenced to 51 years to life imprisonment.
Frank Vitkovic
A year later in 1987, 22-year-old Frank Vitkovic went inside a building inside 191 Queen Street, Melbourne, Australia, armed with a sawn-off M1 Carbine rifle. Feeling angered over one his former school friends (Con Margelis), he had a desire to kill him. However, since Margelis survived the attack because of Frank's rifle jamming, Frank snapped and just decided to kill a bunch of innocent people. Unfortunately for Frank, he was tackled during the attack, with his rifle even being snatched away and placed into a freezer. But Frank managed to break away from the people who're tackling him, and he jumped off a window, falling to his death. In total, 8 people died in the shooting, and 5 were injured.
Roland James Smith Jr.
8 years later in 1995, 51-year-old Roland James Smith Jr. (also known as Aboudima Moulika) went inside Freddy's Fashion Mart in Harlem, New York, armed with a flammable liquid and .38 revolver. He had a strong hatred of Freddy's Fashion Mart, since that store didn't want to employ black people. And because of this, and due to his disdain towards white people, he ordered all of the black customers to leave the mart. After that, he setted the store on fire with said flammable liquid. He then shot at 2 officers, and injured 4 other people who tried to escape the fire. After setting the mart on fire, he shot himself. 7 people died from smoke inhalation, while 4 people were injured by shooting.
David Cedric Morgan
On the same day of the fashion mart attack, a 30-year-old man named David Cedric Morgan went inside a Rackhams department store in Birmingham, England. He was a schizophrenic man and had very violent thought about women, even being arrested once for attacking women in the street. But on that day, he went inside the store with a butcher's knife and a bread knife. There, he began attacking women, first stabbing a manager named Karen Crosby, then Jan Twining (who was slashed in the neck), then Kay Pilkington to the throat, and attacked many more women until he was beaten with a golf club, and later subdued. He was arrested, and later sent to life imprisonment. Thankfully, nobody died in the attack, but 15 people were wounded, a few of them needing to get stitches.
Abbas al-Baqir Abbas
5 years later, in 2000, 33-year-old Abbas al-Baqir Abbas (a member of Takfir wal-Hijra) went on a shooting rampage in a mosque in Jarafa, Sudan. Armed with a Zastava M70AB2 rifle, he hid behind a window and shot at the people who were praying in the mosque. The people inside were members of Ansar al-Sunna, a group that was rivals with Takfir wal-Hijra, and they were all males. Speaking of, he only wanted to target the males and avoided shooting at the females-section of the mosque. When police came, he refused to surrender, and instead got into a shootout, where he'd end up dying. In total, 22 people were killed, and 32 were injured (including an officer).
Nathan Miles Gale
4 years later in 2004, a 25-year-old former Marine named Nathan Miles Gale went inside the Alrosa Villa nightclub in Columbus, Ohio, armed with a Beretta 92FS pistol. During the attack, a band called Damageplan was performing a concert inside the nightclub. Nathan barged into the stage, and shot one of the band members (Dimebag Darrell), killing him. with the addition of 3 other people being injured, he had also killed 3 more people, that being: - Jeff Thompson, a head of security for Damageplan - Erin Halk, an employee of the nightclub - and Nathan Bray, and Damageplan fan who was trying to help one of the victims.
After that, a police officer named James Niggemeyer killed him with his shotgun. In total, 4 people died, and 3 were wounded. The motive of the attack remained unknown, though some speculated that the shooting was fueled by his mental illness and his obsession with the band Pantera. Dimebag used to be in Pantera, before he later went to Damageplan, which may've caused Nathan to commit the attack.
Oreanna Myers
On December 8, 2020, in Williamsburg, Virginia, a 25-year-old Oreanna Myers shot and killed 5 of her children with a .410 single-shot shotgun. 3 of her kids were here biological children, while 2 were her stepchildren. After the shooting, she set her house on fire, left the house and shot herself near a picnic table. She was mentally ill, and before the attack, even 3 notes, one being a suicide note, stating that her "demons" had won over her. Another being a confession note, in which she wrote about how she was responsible for the attack, and stated that "This is no one’s fault but my own". The shooting was also possibly influenced by her being absent from her house. Her husband had been away from her house because of a recent car accident.
There's like probably many more attacks that happened on December 8, but these were the ones that I know about.

Imperial Crown of Russia or the Great Imperial Crown is one of the most outstanding examples of ‘regalia.’
Regalia is referred to as the emblems or insignia of royalty that survived through history.
It is a precious cultural heritage treasure — a well-documented and well-dated piece of jewellery.
Regalia jewellery pieces offer historians great insight into the gemstones used, their historical market values, and occurrences.
It also helps gemologists and jewellers to know how the gems were named and set on the piece of jewellery.
While royal crowns were usually made for individual rulers and later broken up, some of this royal regalia could be found in museums today.
Here are some interesting facts about one such royal artifact, the great Imperial Crown of Russia.
The Great Imperial Crown was made for Catherine the Great’s coronation, as the Russian Empress in 1762 AD, by Georg Friedrich Eckart and Jérémie Pauzié.
It is set with 4936 diamonds with a total weight of 2858 ct, 75 natural pearls, and a large 398.72 ct red spinel, historically known as “balas ruby,” which is among the largest ever reported in the literature, most probably from Badakhshan (today’s Tajikistan).
Imperial Crown of Russia was first worn by the Russian empress Catherine, followed by the subsequent seven emperors of her dynasty.
This royal regalia has remained a permanent fixture on the royal head.
This priceless artifact has been passed on to eight members of the Romanov family:
Catherine II, Peter III, Paul I, Alexander I, Nikolai I, Alexander II, Alexander III, and Nikolai II.
The Romanov dynasty survived till 1917, yet the crown publically appeared for the last time in 1906 at the opening ceremony of the first State Duma.
The crown was estimated to be worth $52 million in 1920.
The stones that the royal regalia comprises were sold off by the Bolsheviks and replaced in 1985.
Later in 1998, the crown was moved to the fund of Kremlin’s Diamond. Subsequently, it was declared to be priceless in a literal sense.
📷 : A modern replica version of the Imperial Crown was made in 2012 by Kristall-Smolensk, as part of the Jewellery project "Creation of Imperial Crown of Russia in Modern Interpretation" to celebrate the 400 years of the Romanov Dynasty and the 250 years of the Imperial Crown, as well as the 50th anniversary of the diamond industry in Russia.
Using white gold (original used silver) and 11,426 russian diamonds (original crown had 4,936 diamonds) from Alrosa with a total weight of 1180 ct, including 74 cultured pearls and a 384.71ct pear-shaped double rose cut purple tourmaline on top of the crown.
The spinel in the replica was replaced with a unique natural red tourmaline with a mass of about 400 karats.

The Murder of 'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott, Damageplan Guitarist aka The Columbus Nightclub Shooting
On December 8, 2004, Damageplan was headlining a concert at the Alrosa Villa nightclub in Columbus, Ohio. The venue had a capacity of 600 and had sold 250 tickets for the evening's show. Club manager Rick Cautela and other concertgoers noticed Nathan Gale loitering in the parking lot during the opening acts, Volume Dealer and 12 Gauge, and asked why he was outside, to which he responded, "I don't want to see no shitty local bands [...] I'm gonna wait for Damageplan." By the time that Damageplan took the stage at 10:15 p.m. EST, the crowd had grown to about 400. Gale entered the venue by scaling a 6-foot (1.8 m) wooden fence on the north side of the venue and entering through a patio door.
At 10:20 p.m., partway into the opening song of Damageplan's set, Gale, dressed in a Columbus Blue Jackets hockey jersey and a hooded sweatshirt, jumped onto the stage and drew his Beretta 92FS 9mm semi-automatic pistol. He moved directly towards Abbott and shot him four times at point-blank range: one time each in the right cheek, the left ear, the back of the head, and the right hand. Joe Dameron, the bassist for Volume Dealer, said that Gale shouted something, but did not know what. Some attendees did not realize that a shooting had taken place, with security guard Ryan Melchiore stating, "People were pumping their fists, thinking it was a hoax."
After shooting Abbott, Gale began firing on other attendees, beginning with tour manager Chris Paluska, who was shot once in the chest before Damageplan security chief Jeffrey "Mayhem" Thompson tackled Gale from behind. Thompson was fatally shot in the chest, back, and upper thigh in the ensuing struggle. Nathan Bray, a Damageplan fan, leapt onto the stage and was fatally shot in the chest while attempting to resuscitate Abbott and Thompson. Erin "Stoney" Halk, an Alrosa Villa employee and former Marine who had either assisted Thompson or had charged Gale while he was reloading, was mortally wounded by six shots: four in the chest, one in the hand, and one in the leg.
Travis Burnett, a member of Volume Dealer's road crew, attempted to disarm Gale and was grazed by a bullet on his left forearm. Burnett fled the scene when subsequent gunshots were aimed at his head. Drum technician John "Kat" Brooks attempted to subdue Gale. He was shot twice in the leg and was taken as a hostage. Responding within three minutes to a 9-1-1 dispatch call, Columbus police officer James Niggemeyer entered the club through a backstage door and shot Gale once in the head with a 12-gauge Remington Model 870 shotgun, killing him. At the time of his death, Gale had a half-full magazine in his Beretta and another 30 rounds of ammunition on his person.
Fans removed Abbott from the stage and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation until paramedics arrived at the scene, where Abbott was pronounced dead. He was 38 years old. Thompson, 40, and Halk, 29, were also pronounced dead at the scene, while Bray, 23, was transported to the Riverside Methodist Hospital and was declared dead at 11:10 p.m. Paluska and Brooks were also transported to Riverside, where they ultimately survived and recovered from their injuries. Burnett received treatment at the scene and declined transport to the hospital.

Russia’s largest diamond mining company and its CEO added to EU sanctions list
The European Union added Russia’s Alrosa, the world’s largest diamond producer, and its CEO Pavel Marinychev to the EU sanctions list on Wednesday.
Alrosa and Marinychev were included in the list for “actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.”
The company constitutes an important part of an economic sector that is providing substantial revenue to the government of the Russian Federation.
Alrosa’s inclusion in the sanctions list followed the EU’s decision in December to ban the import, purchase and transfer of natural and synthetic diamonds from Russia, part of the bloc’s 12th package of sanctions against Moscow since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.
The import ban is due to come into effect on March 1 and initially applies to diamonds and jewellery originating in Russia.
The move comes after Russia stepped up strikes on Ukrainian cities over the New Year period.
Alrosa mines more than 90 per cent of diamonds in Russia and about 30 per cent globally.

The Evolution of Diamond Mining Techniques Over the Decades
From Manual Labor to High-Tech Innovations: How Diamond Mining Has Transformed Over Time
Introduction
Diamonds, the world’s most coveted gemstones, have a rich history dating back thousands of years. While their allure has remained unchanged, the methods used to extract them have evolved dramatically. From early manual techniques to today’s high-tech and eco-friendly innovations, diamond mining has undergone a significant transformation to meet growing global demand while addressing environmental concerns.
In this article, we’ll explore the evolution of diamond mining techniques over the decades and how they’ve shaped the industry.
Early Days: Manual Mining and Basic Tools
The earliest known diamond mining activities date back to ancient India, where diamonds were extracted from riverbeds. These methods, called alluvial mining, involved little more than manual labor and basic tools like sieves and shovels.
Characteristics:
Labor-intensive and time-consuming.
Limited to shallow deposits near riverbanks.
Minimal environmental impact due to small-scale operations.
Example:
The Golconda diamonds of India, mined using these primitive methods, were renowned for their quality and brilliance.
As demand for diamonds grew, miners began searching for deposits deeper within the Earth, paving the way for more advanced techniques.
The Kimberley Revolution: Large-Scale Mining
The discovery of diamonds in Kimberley, South Africa, revolutionised diamond mining in the late 19th century. For the first time, miners realized that diamonds could be found deep within the Earth's crust in volcanic pipes, known as kimberlite pipes.
Key Innovations:
Introduction of large-scale open-pit mining, where the surface was excavated to access diamond-rich deposits.
Use of steam-powered equipment to increase efficiency.
Impact:
Enabled the extraction of larger quantities of diamonds.
Marked the beginning of industrialized diamond mining.
This era also led to the establishment of De Beers Consolidated Mines, which dominated the diamond industry for much of the 20th century.
Mid-20th Century: Advances in Underground Mining
As surface deposits became depleted, miners turned to underground mining techniques to access deeper kimberlite pipes.
Techniques Introduced:
Block Caving: A method where large sections of ore are blasted and allowed to collapse under gravity, making extraction easier.
Room and Pillar Mining: Used in stable rock formations, where rooms of ore are extracted while leaving pillars to support the roof.
Technological Improvements:
Introduction of mechanized drilling and blasting.
Use of conveyor belts for efficient material transport.
These techniques allowed miners to access deeper deposits while maintaining safety and efficiency.
Modern Era: High-Tech Innovations and Sustainability
The 21st century has brought cutting-edge technologies and a focus on sustainable mining practices.
1. Automation and Robotics
Remote-controlled machinery and autonomous vehicles have reduced human involvement in hazardous mining environments.
Advanced robotics are used to sort and analyze diamonds with precision.
2. Geological Exploration Tools
Technologies like ground-penetrating radar (GPR) and magnetic surveys help identify diamond deposits without excessive environmental disruption.
3. Environmental Consciousness
Efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of diamond mining include the use of renewable energy and recycling water at mining sites.
Companies like De Beers and Alrosa are investing in carbon-neutral mining projects.
4. Marine Mining
In locations like Namibia, diamonds are now extracted from the seabed using specialized ships equipped with dredging tools and sorting systems.
The Rise of Lab-Grown Diamonds
As natural diamond deposits become harder to find, lab-grown diamonds have emerged as a sustainable alternative. These diamonds are created using advanced techniques like Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) and High-Pressure High-Temperature (HPHT) methods, offering an ethical and eco-friendly option for consumers.
End Note
The evolution of diamond mining techniques reflects humanity’s relentless pursuit of innovation and efficiency. From the simple tools of ancient India to today’s high-tech machinery and sustainable practices, the journey of diamond mining is a testament to our ability to adapt and innovate.
As the industry moves forward, the focus is increasingly shifting toward environmentally friendly methods and alternatives like lab-grown diamonds, ensuring that the beauty of these precious gems doesn’t come at the cost of the planet. 💎 Diamonds may be forever, but so should our commitment to sustainable and ethical practices in mining and production.
