As an artist, I’ve been struggling lately. It feels like everywhere I look, AI art is in the news, and I’m seeing more and more artists losing work while companies like Meta take our data to train more models and everywhere they are trying to shove shitty AI features down our throats. It’s infuriating, and frustrating, and depressing - and some days it makes me want to give up drawing altogether.
It’s honestly stolen my joy in working with digital tools. How can I rely on them, when tech companies are proving they can’t be trusted - when companies like Adobe are showing that they will turn on their customer base in an instant if they think it will gain them an inch in the AI arms race. (Where the whole goal seems to be the elimination of artists altogether.)
That’s why I’ve decided to try and transition to traditional art - or at the very least, a combo approach of traditional and digital. (And because traditional is slower for me, I will also try to simplify/stylize more, and rely on references less.)
It’s scary, because I’ve gotten comfortable in the way I work, and also because I know my style will probably change a bit (and I’m worried people won’t like it as much 😓) But I feel like it’s my only way to go forward with art right now. Hopefully folks will stick with me through this journey, and still enjoy my fanart 🙏

ok so I’m torn. As you may already know, there’s a REALLY good CSP sale. I started using CSP in 2020 and I never want to go back. Last year, I bought a perpetual upgrade from 1.0 -> 2.0 for $40, and now I’m considering upgrading from 2.0 -> 3.0. Here’s my dilemma:
When I bought the version upgrade, I ONLY got 2.0. I thought that I would get every new 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, etc feature added until 3.0, but no. Purchasing the upgrade ONLY gets you 2.0. Which honestly! Is kind of fine. I really like all the new features that were added.
I do want all the new features too…. if I buy the 3.0 license I’ll get every update from the past year.
HOWEVER. if CSP is going to be releasing new versions year after year, then the annual plan for the update pass IS much cheaper, even with the version upgrade at 30% off. And if I get the update pass, I’d be getting all the updates as they release……..
But then I’m worried about subscriptions vs perpetual licenses. When I upgraded to 2.0, I didn’t lose my 1.0 license, I just moved it to my laptop. If I bought 3.0, I’d upgrade my laptop to 2.0. If I got the update pass, I don’t think I’d be able to upgrade my laptop’s CSP.
additionally, in the event I ever cancel the update pass, I don’t know what version I’d be left with. Would I keep whatever my most recent update was, or would I revert back to my 2.0 license?
In that case, is it smarter to spend the extra $15 for the perpetual 3.0 license after all??? or would I be getting scammed out of my money?? I don’t exactly have the money for this to begin with, but I want to take advantage of the sale..
while I’m not a fan of subscription services, like, as a concept, I do appreciate that CSP still offers perpetual licenses AND that you are sort of saving money with the subscription (unlike adobe, where the accumulative months and months of charges farrrrrrr outweigh any of their no-longer-offered perpetual license prices).
I also don’t HAVE to buy the upgrade. Even 1.0 is still a perfectly serviceable program— I drew this entire comic using 1.0 while I was petsitting for a week back home and only had my laptop. But… I still think getting 3.0 would be nice……

Hii what is your best advice to younger adults trying to make it independently and make a living? In art, savings or anything you think of. Thank you in advance!
dont be too hard on yourself. its tough out there right now in regards to like everything regardless of what old people say. also this is going to be a lot so im slapping a read more on here
⭐️ first thing id recommend for anyone is to start figuring out a budget. figure out how much youre making monthly. keep all your food receipts for a month or two to see what youre spending on food. find out what youre paying for thats necessary like utilities and whats not
the goal for a budget (or at least mine) is to find a good balance of earning vs spending. im paying off my credit card right now because i ran through all my savings after we had to move last year but my goal used to be to save 1/4 of what i earned after bills and putting money into an emergency fund (usually an emergency fund is 3 months worth of expenses). but it depends on how much you can comfortably put away. if you can put more away do it. but if you never spend money and deprive yourself of joy youre going to burn yourself out regardless of what your job is
⭐️ if youre not already buy store brand for as much shit as you can. if its an ingredient i promise as someone who cooks and bakes you probably wont notice the difference. if its an actual snack it depends. again both from a money perspective and to boycott pro-isreal companies we get a lot of snacks from aldis and theyre awesome. i dont miss anything from mars, oreos etc when i have my chocolate coconut wafers
⭐️ if you have any subscriptions and you need to get rid of something you can probably cancel them. for *most* things theres some kind of free alternative. but again just like with a budget. there are going to be some subscriptions that make your life easier and while youd save money without them it would lead to extra work and burning out. ex willow has kofi gold because it has really cool extra features that help with running the shop. but for streaming services? im going to be so honest. both to save money and with how cheeky streaming companies (in a bad way) have been getting… you can find whatever you want to watch online for free
if you need to use anything from the microsoft office suite, but youre not required by youre job to specifically use microsoft, libreoffice is a free alternative that i actually like better. its what i use to help willow run their shop and its free
for art programs. if you still have photoshop switch. not just for money reasons. adobe is getting bold with what they can claim as their content and use from what people produce in their program. the switch isnt the easiest but there are a bunch of alternatives. some free some like csp offer one time licenses which are so much better than subscriptions. will has spent almost $2k on photoshop and after effects from using it as long as they have. when csp is $50 and they like csp better anyways. i also know of krita and fire alpaca which are free
⭐️ also theres stuff about being an adult that i thought you had to pay for but you dont? like for car insurance i went through an independent insurance agent and they found me a cheaper plan than i could find myself. i didnt pay the guy. they get a cut from the insurance company for finding them another customer. some banks or credit cards offer financial advising sessions to users. its boring but if you can get a copy of your health insurance see if they have any free shit on there thats available for you. my brother gets free doctor finding? like i can call them, tell them what specialist he needs and instead of me calling around to find one that can take him, they connect me with someone. my work offers 3 free therapy sessions (better than nothing) and free food that i take advantage of
⭐️ i think one of the biggest things that makes an impact for us is researching before buying stuff. sounds like a no brainer but you dont just want to find the cheapest deal. you want to find the best bargain, the best bang for your buck. whats the best quality thing you can get that you can also afford? itll prevent your from having to replace stuff all the time and by extension spending more than you need to. we have nonstick pots and pans that are scratched and starting to peel (which apparently can cause cancer??) that were cheap because of being on sale. now after looking into what makes quality cookware i know i should of just slowly bought stainless steel
⭐️ last big one. credit cards. unfortunately we need them so find one with a low apr and that offers decent cash back. use it up to like 20% of your limit and pay it off every month. focus on using it on things that will get you cash back so you can essentially get free money
im sure i could ramble more but this is already super long

The Woes of Formatting
I am… 22 hours into formatting ENNS for print (now ebook) and am making this post for posterity’s sake to say: Formatting is so. Tedious. I had to start over thanks to Amazon going “ha you didn’t set your margins properly,” and also some last-minute changes to the text. Yesterday (7/24/24) after a full day of work, I worked on Book from 2:30pm to 11:30pm. Today is probably going to be about the same.
My neck hurts from staring at my monitor, my pinkie hurts from the strain of holding a computer mouse in one position since 6am. I have forgotten to cook lunch and dinner, but I did have breakfast.
It doesn’t even feel real yet. I am exhausted. But you know what feels great? Eliminating widows and orphans on the pages to erase the page count only by one. If you don’t know, those are the little hanging words on the bottom line of a paragraph or the top of a page that can be resized to fit on the line above it.
Getting to the last page of the chapter and realizing there’s only 3 or 4 lines of text left eating up an entire piece of paper, and then scrolling back through the chapter like a madwoman to nudge other paragraphs around to eliminate that extra page… I was literally cheering in my room in satisfaction.
For the record it shouldn’t take you this long, but I wanted it to be pretty, and Amazon is incredibly precise with their formatting requirements down to 0.001inches. So I had to reformat the cover art, which took a while. Then I had to fix the margins at least 3 times until no more errors showed up. Then I had to reread the entire book for last-minute changes. Then I had to format the chapter header pages.
Before that, though, I had to make the art for the chapter header pages. And re-learn how to do all of the formatting on InDesign.
So here I am, 22 hours in, finally onto the ebook that will be done tonight goddamn. And I just want to say, if it’s within your power to do as much of the work yourself as you can, fucking do it.
I’d be losing my mind with stress if I was waiting for a cover artist to make adjustments whenever they deigned to find my order a priority. Or the person I’d be paying to format this book. Losing. My. Mind. Maybe after the ridiculous goose chase I have been on with editors for this book has completely murdered my faith in paid beta readers to do shit in a timely manner (ENNS' first draft was written in 31 days, it took from 2/25/24 to 6/10 for my tiny army of betas and the AWOL failed betas to deliver, then 6 weeks for the professional copy edit). Anyway.
Yeah it’s taken me a long ass time, on top of two full corporate-nonsense workdays, but the satisfaction I have felt hammering this project out isn’t comparable to paying someone to do it for me. I got the manuscript back from my copy editor and I wasn’t excited, I was like “I needed this 10 days ago thanks” (in my head) and then got right back to work. Copy editor is necessary, don’t get me wrong, it’s absolutely necessary, but the catharsis that I have now was definitely absent then.
So. Yeah. This is rambly and I’m not sorry. Even after the ebook is up for preorder there’s still work to be done and money to be spent. But I’m forcing myself to take a break, pause, breathe, appreciate the work I have already done.
I am hours away from launching my first published novel. Hours.
It doesn’t feel real. August 25th, 2024, Eternal Night of the Northern Sky's official release date. Gahhhhhhh.
—
For anyone curious:
Cover was done in Photoshop (I have the Lightroom student package for $9.99/mo)
Formatting was done in InDesign (%#&%# $35.99/mo after 7 day trial choke on rocks, Adobe)
Formatting did not need to be done in ID, but other one-time fees were either more expensive when I can cancel my subscription after the month is up, or the free versions were too limited and constricting in their capabilities.
I’m far too nitpicky to not have complete creative freedom and control over my work, with all the hours I have put in. So Adobe it is.
Back to work!

Bye Bye Photoshop
So, yeah, Adobe is pushing the generative AI stuff more and more (and their "ethically sourced" AI engine Firefly uses around 1.25 million Midjourney images in its dataset, e.g. made with scraped stolen art, and opted all of the stock it offers in for training without asking the creators.)
Seeing Kyle T. Webster, the guy who made the 1000 free amazing brushes that PS Creative Cloud users get, quitting PS and being outspoken about his stance against gen AI around social media was an eye opener. (He offers some brushes on Gumroad apart from Adobe as well, thank goodness!)
When I first got Photoshop and switched from Krita to it, I found the brushes incredibly bad and unusable until I got the Kyle's brushes sets. You might say PS only worked for me so long because of Kyle's brushes, and that's not an exaggeration!
Anyway, my annual Photoshop Creative Cloud subscription was about to renew next month on July 6th, my birthday, as it has since 2017. I was already considering switching to something else when I saw it: Clip Studio, on sale for 60% off! I had literally downloaded the demo the week before to try it out and consider whether to invest $54 in a copy to switch from PS.
The perpetual license was under $25 USD now, but the subscription for an entire year was $10.79—cheaper than one month of my Photoshop subscription—and I'm already used to a subscription with constant updates. So I ended up getting the CS subscription and quit PS cold turkey.
So now I'm saving $109/year on art software, not giving money to people contributing to the biggest art theft in human history (literal billions of images scraped), and as a bonus, CS has a great community with tons of free brushes and textures and such up for grabs all the time!
I'm happy to say that all of the PS brushes I've purchased from Gumroad loaded right into CS and work perfectly. All of my Creative Fabrica fonts load in and work perfectly.
To be sure I could use CS before I committed to the switch-over, I whipped up a book cover (cannot tell it's made with anything different than my previous ones), and I illustrated and colored a piece of character art (looks super clean!) I opened PS and copied down my favorite fonts short list (minus the Adobe fonts, of course, which came with my subscription.)
And then I uninstalled Photoshop and Creative Cloud entirely, including their fonts. And it felt good! I sincerely thought switching to CS would be going to slightly worse software to be ethically okay using it, but after getting used to CS and customizing it with some very shiny brush sets (oil paints, watercolors, ink pens, gorgeous pencil, all free), I think it's just as good.
And CS won't shove "generative fill" AI tool garbage at me, or load my account with "generative credits" without ever asking.
It felt so gross logging into Adobe after ages to cancel my subscription and seeing those credits on my account, knowing they offered the option to buy more of them, taking money for things generated by using (among many other things) every art piece I've ever posted in the past 21 years for their scraped dataset training. Good riddance, Adobe!
Anyway, yeah. I'm using Clip Studio Paint now, and I'm excited to get to play with my new brush sets! ♥♥♥
#threshie#threshasketch#rambling#thoughts#if you care about artists please do not use generative ai#it's built on the backs of millions who are ALSO having their jobs replaced by people typing in ai prompts#and it's disgusting#clip studio paint#however#is pretty awesome#♥

497 Days, and counting.
Hi, I should insert my name here, but it doesn’t matter. I’m a mom, working mom, working mom outside the home mom, working mom outside of the home without the luxury of logging in every morning in my sweatpants mom, wife, not a first wife, working on my third to be exact (I have all the excuses and reasons to justify, but why should I, you don’t even know my name. I am a hot mess, although holding it together, and I am barreling towards 40. 497 days until I turn 40. It scares the hell out of me.
What am I here for? No clue, I’m longing for something, is it more money….. Maybe. I look at side gigs daily because My retirement fund tells me I’m behind. I already work more than full time, teach yoga on the side and have a handful of semi decent and failures of hobbies that I either got bored of or simply don’t have time for. I sold the Cricut I begged my husband for, have a ton of soap making supplies, embroidery was harder than I thought. I’m decent at photography although too scared to charge for it. I actually make decent money, I’m in trucking, not a driver, but the person who gets yelled at all day by drivers and customers. I’m actually pretty good at it. Maybe it’s all the damn subscriptions I have and don’t use. Maybe I can retire at 62 if I cancel those. That will be my goal before 40, cancel all the virus protections, drop box space, Adobe programs I don’t use, and the Planet Fitness membership I haven’t used in over a year. Those sneaky bastards, I have to go in to the actual gym to cancel. That’s embarrassing and when the hell am I supposed to do that? I don’t even have time to go.
I should have time, I’m divorced from my kids dad, and they go to his house on Wednesdays (I teach yoga that night) and every other weekend…. Yet I still have sporting events to attend, and all the cleaning and laundry. Never ending laundry. I always wonder how those moms who sell make up and skincare got so lucky. I get messages all the time, “Hey Girl, it’s been forever!” I get excited, seeing my friends at this age is like planning a wedding. Babysitters, work schedules, fucking sports!!! Kids sports! I have devoted so much of my life to watching my kids play sports. More on that another day, I’m not the Best Sports Mom. I have no shirts with Basketball Mom in fancy fonts that match my bedazzled school spirit hats, ( no offense if you do, I can barely muster enough energy to swipe on mascara and brush my hair as I rush home from work.) Anyways, back to the cute moms who sell makeup and wear rhinestones on their apparel. I mean, I’m willing to be friends with them. But, it always ends up, You should sell my special Collagen Syrup, it sells itself, and I have been to Mexico 3 times this year. Girl, your husband is also a lawyer and nobody wants to see me make tik toks. Friendship is over before I even ask if they want to drink wine in a driveway. Ok, goal number 2. Make more friends. I do have the best girl friends in the world. But, you know, life when you are barreling towards 40 leaves little free time to drink wine and talk shit about MLM moms with successful husbands. And my husband IS successful, and sweet. But, in our house, we both work. Duel incomes, we both go 50/50. We came into our marriage as adults, me with 2 little girls who are now preteens. He is super helpful with them. I count my blessings. He’s also very private, so I’ll probably not speak of him too often. Since you don’t even know my name, not sure it matters anyway. I’m not sure if anyone will ever even read this. I forgot my password after signing up last week. So, there’s a chance I’ll forget it again and never make another post.
Ok, back to the point. Things to do before I turn 40, part uno.
Goals:
Cancel subscriptions I don’t use.
Be nice to Lularoe moms and make friends.
Signing off, lady who is too scared to say her name on a blog and almost 40.

#i used to be kind of an adobe fan (yes .. i know .....)#but since last year .. idk almost every big update brings a huge bug with it#well .. many bug#inDesign on my office mac is barely working. which is BAD when you're a graphic designer#also they started to exclude some apps from the ''all inclusive subsription'' and demand now 40€ additional? like .. NO!??#and now with the newest version of photoshop .. I CAN NOT OPEN TIFF FILES ANYMORE#all my photo scans (that i need now! well not all of them but .. some) are tiff files#what the fuck adobe#i guess it's time to cancel the subscription and pirate again#but to what use if i cant even open the files i need#years back i already witnessed how corporate greed started to decrease the overall quality of apps and service#but over the past two years this is happening at an incredible speed#i hate hate hate hate hate hate hate HATE how quality decreases massively#because some CEOs and investors needs more money#i fucking hate how good things all get destroyed by capitalistic greed .. sorry i meant cost-efficency of course.#there is no greed in capitalism ... only cost efficiency

i was gonna draw tonight but i dropped my tablet pen and the barrel of the pen broke off and flew somewhere underneath (??) my bed (?) and now i cant find it so I’m just gonna answer asks before bed instead. just some art asks and more mentions of infinity train LOL
What program and brushes do you use when making your art?
@ravki hi! part of this is in my FAQ but i’ll say it again anyways LOL: I use photoshop CC and have used photoshop for pretty much....my whole art career. I’ve dabbled in clip and paint tool sai in the past but photoshop is my true wife, we eloped away from her awful father adobe many years ago and are very happy together.
as for brushes... I should prob put this info in my FAQ too lol,... my default brush set is actually free to download here! Tho I will say I also use steve ahn’s storyboarding brush sometimes and lately i’ve been using shiyoon kim’s brushes A TON. Shiyoon’s cost a couple bucks but they’re super worth it imo
How do you choose colors?
This is kind of a difficult one to describe from scratch but hmm.... I’ll put it this way. Generally when I go into coloring or painting something I already have some colors in mind. Like for a certain piece I know I want a bright green, or a magenta, or a dark blue in certain areas. A lot of the time I know a mood I want. So I’ll start with that core color tone and build around it. I’ll use an example from a recent piece
So you can see here that the first color I accessed was that bright cyan. So I start with that bright cyan and then bring in its “friends” in the form of analogous colors (shown below on the far left)
greens greys etc. THEN I know I want the characters to stand out against all the blue so I start laying down warm contrasting colors for them (middle group). the mat under them is orange, skin tones are warm, ryans flannel is red etc. then to get them to work together I work more cool colors into the shadows and slightly warmer (not too warm because its a cool img overall so in this case, greener LOL) colors into highlights.
hope that makes sense? for me choosing colors is a lot about story and composition. If you know what you want to say, the mood you want to create, where you want to go, the path to get there becomes a lot clearer imo.
Have you ever considered making an art book?
I have! But I don’t think I currently have enough...original illustrations for one LOL? Not that an art book has to be all original work but if I were putting fanart in an art book...at that point I’d just make a fanzine. I’m making more original work lately though so maybe this year....? Who knows. For now, I do have a sketchbook up on gumroad. Hoping to do one of those next year too.
Any tips for keeping background drawings from getting super stiff, especially since things like interiors have a lot of straight lines?
This is a really interesting ask. Really great question that I don’t think gets asked enough - forgive me if I get a bit art school here but I drew up some examples.
First I think we have to investigate the assumption that straight lines make things stiff. That seems true on an instinctual level and certainly proves to be true very often But I don’t think its actually the straight lines themselves but the sort of arrangements and compositions they tend to dictate. Take this for instance.
pretty big difference, right? there’s a couple things that make a composition feel stiff and one of the most significant is lines that are perpendicular and parallel to the frame. it feels locked in and solid, like bricks. but the moment you shift these angles even a little the composition instantly becomes more dynamic because our innate senses of weight, gravity, and directionality can sense movement.
But it’s not just diagonals let’s take this one step further
when lines meet and terminate together those tangents can flatten and lock space so the best way to solve this is with overlap and complete intersection, forms continuing past or behind each other feel more layered and less like a flat mosaic... again, even in the simplest line drawings. So how do we apply this to a background?
ok I drew this really fast so its potentially not the best example but I think the idea is there. This space isn’t even particularly deep, it’s basically a room, a doorway, and a hallway behind it, and we’re not seeing that much of any of those things LOL. but when you draw an environmental object like a doorway in a way that lines up with the perpendicular and parallel lines of the canvas you’re automatically flattening it and making it look rigid.
and when you create tangents with objects and characters you flatten the space around them and make it difficult to tell what is actually in front or behind or if they’re on the same plane.
GOD I HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE. Anyways. avoid those things and you’ll instantly have less stiff bgs no matter what kind of bg you’re depicting.
I wanna mention however that this isn’t to say a stiff bg with flat space doesn’t have its purposes.
sometimes you want to create parallels and tangents. it can make characters feel closed in, trapped, regimented, part of a routine, etc. it’s also great for making a composition look ornamental (especially combined with symmetry).
directors like wes anderson can even use these compositional elements to make images feel uncanny or harrowing! its very versatile. I think the important thing is to just be aware of when you are making something rigid and when that’s the last thing you want to do. conscious choices.
Can you speak Tagalog?
@lemuelzero101 I can! BUT NOT VERY WELL LOL ;;; both my parents are from Visayas! but they met and had me in the states lol so I’m pretty American born and raised. We go back to visit family on occasion but not regularly. My tagalog is mostly absorbed from listening to relatives at parties lol and my parents speak bisaya at home so I’m marginally better at that. Sorry to any filipinos out there hoping I’d be better educated, I’m like a little baby...
I do love meeting and talking to other filipinos online though, I grew up in an area that was relatively diverse but the asian population was small and the filipino population basically non-existent. I was like one of maybe 2 filipino kids in my highschool of 2000.
Apart from infinity train what shows are you watching now? Have you seen jujitsu kaisen?
Man this is gonna sound so boring but I haven’t watched a lot of tv lately. It’s not really part of my daily routine. Let’s see... I was sort of watching Amphibia, Craig of the Creek, and the new Digimon Adventure 2020 but I keep falling off watching those for one reason or another. Also there’s a lot of episodes, it doesn’t feel like something I can just binge and be done with.
The last thing I binged was Succession. I want that show and Euphoria back so bad, when I’m done forcing all my friends to watch Infinity Train im cancelling my HBO subscription until Succession and Euphoria return so they know exactly what I’m on their list for LOL.
I have not watched jujitsu kaisen but I’ve kept up with some of the sakuga news (I keep up with anime industry news and production info like x5 the amt i keep up with actual anime) for it and their compositing/editing looks dope. I’ve read the manga actually LOL or at least part of the beginning. I wasn’t super keen on the whole finger eating thing. Also to be honest I kinda feel like its the new Bleach and I never particularly cared about Bleach. Characters look nice enough tho. I wholeheartedly support jjk fans.
Thank you! Thank you @keznodzieja! <3
And thank you anons who don’t watch infinity train LOL...it’s always nice to hear when people enjoy my fanart despite not knowing the source material because it lifts a little bit of the “oh god am I being annoying???” fear off my chest. But also I think you should watch infinity train because it’s really good I have no reservations recommending it.

Hi, I just watched your tma animatic and had to rewatch it like 3 times- it was INCREDIBLE!!! <3 I was wondering what programs/ softwares you use to animate it, and if you used a video editor. It's animatics like yours that are such an inspiration to me!! thank you for putting that amazing work out into the world! - Belle
Thank you so much <3 <3
I initially intended to use fancy animation effects for sections of it, to make parts glitchy or have lyrics appear more smoothly, but I am still new to this so in the end I just drew each frame individually with Medibang Paint Pro.
I threw my frames into a slideshow with the Microsoft Photos app as I worked, so that I could easily check that I was happy with the pacing and transitions. It allows you to add the audio and set the timing of each image quite precisely, so it worked great as a simple draft copy.
Once I was happy with all my frames, I added them to an Adobe After Effects project so that I could finetune the timing with the song and export a good quality video. I only used After Effects because I already had a subscription (which I have now cancelled because it is far too expensive for me) and it allowed me to set the frame rate exact to 0.001 of a second, which was probably entirely unnecessary but felt important.
In future I hope to use Wondershare Filmora X instead of After Effects, as it seems much simpler to use, is far cheaper, and has a free trial.
Thank you for the message, and apologies for the essay response! <3

Adobe Lightroom 3 For Mac
Select the photos you want to print. In the Library module, use the Grid view or the Filmstrip to select. Adobe provides technical support for the current version and the prior version. Bug fixes and security fixes are only provided for the current version. For complete details, see: Lightroom Classic - Supported Versions; Lightroom - Supported Versions.
What are the buying options for Lightroom?
You can purchase Lightroom on its own or as part of the Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan, with both plans starting at US$9.99/month. Lightroom Classic is available as part of the Creative Cloud Photography plan, starting at US$9.99/month.
Are all Lightroom apps updates included in the subscription?
Yes, with Lightroom and Creative Cloud photography plans, you have access to all the latest updates and future releases the moment they’re available.
What is the difference between the annual and month-to-month plan?
The annual plan requires a one-year commitment and is our best value. It comes with a 14-day money back guarantee. If you cancel after that, you’ll be charged a 50% fee for the remaining months. The month-to-month plan gives you the flexibility to stop and restart your subscription without a cancellation fee.
Are the applications installed on my computer or are they cloud based?
Lightroom Classic is installed locally on your computer. Lightroom is a cloud-based service with three device-based apps: desktop, mobile and web. You don't need an ongoing Internet connection to use them. You only need to connect to the Internet once every 99 days to validate your membership.
Can I use the software on one more computer ?
Yes, you can install and run Lightroom apps or Photoshop on two computers, such a home and work computer (Mac, PC or one of each).
What happens to my photos if I exceed my allotment of cloud storage?
If you run out of storage, your new photos will be saved only on the devices they came from. They’ll no longer be backed up to the cloud or synced across your devices, and they won’t be automatically tagged for easy keyword search within Lightroom. Buying Lightroom used to be simple. All you had to do was buy the full version of the program, and upgrade (if you wished) every time a new version came out. But ever since Adobe announced the Creative Cloud subscription service, photographers have been faced with two choices. You can still go for the standalone version, or you can buy Lightroom as part of a Creative Cloud monthly membership. But how do you know which is the best option for you? Read on to find out.

Creative Cloud is announced
Adobe’s initial announcement of the Creative Cloud licensing concept was somewhat controversial as the price for a subscription to Photoshop ran at $20 a month (all prices in this article are in US dollars). For photographers who had already purchased the full version of Photoshop this represented a significant price increase. Not only was subscribing more expensive in the long run, compared to upgrading Photoshop regularly, but the license to use the software expired once monthly payments stopped.
There’s little doubt this was a raw deal, but Adobe listened and introduced a new package for photographers – a subscription to both Lightroom and Photoshop CC for $9.99 a month (or $119.88 per year).
Read about this on forums and photography websites and you will still come across a lot of negativity towards the Creative Cloud subscription model, especially from Photoshop users upset at the loss of a perpetual licence. But today, I aim to cut through this negativity and take an objective look at the differences between the two options.
Two types of Lightroom users
To start, we have to acknowledge that there are two types of Lightroom users.
The first uses Lightroom in conjunction with Photoshop and wants access to both programs. For this user, the Creative Cloud option is the only choice if you want the latest version of Photoshop CC. Alternatively, if you own a version of Photoshop CS and are not bothered about upgrading to Photoshop CC, you can buy the standalone version of Lightroom and use them together.
The second type of user carries out the bulk of their image processing in Lightroom. For tasks Lightroom can’t handle, they may use an older version of Photoshop, a less powerful program like Photoshop Elements, or a plug-in such as the Nik Collection or Perfect Photo Suite 9. These users may be wondering whether to continue using the standalone version of the software or to subscribe.
Financial considerations
If you are on a budget, and don’t need Photoshop CC, then it is definitely less expensive to buy the standalone version of Lightroom. At the moment a new version of Lightroom comes out approximately every 18 months. At $9.99 a month, the subscription service would cost you $179.82 over that period. If you are new to Lightroom, the full version (priced at $149 from the Adobe website) saves you money, and if you already own Lightroom, then the upgrade (priced at $79) is even less, saving you a little over $100 over the same time period.
As a standalone version user you get free upgrades until a full new version comes out. So, if you upgraded to Lightroom 5.0 when it first came out, you can upgrade to the latest version (5.7) for free, taking advantage of new features introduced since then. But when Lightroom 6 comes out, you will need to pay the upgrade fee to use it. Upgrading isn’t compulsory, and you can continue to use your earlier version of Lightroom as long as you want.
Adobe have stressed their commitment to continuing the standalone version of Lightroom for the foreseeable future.
Note:The standalone version of Lightroom is a little hard to find on Adobe’s website. You can get there by going to Adobe’s home page and clicking the Menu option at the top. Click the All Products button at the bottom, scroll down to Lightroom and click Buy. Or you can also find it here on Amazon.
What the Creative Cloud subscription gives you
The Creative Cloud subscription is more expensive, so what do you get for that extra money? The two headline features are Photoshop CC, a powerful image editing program that you are likely familiar with, plus access to Lightroom Mobile, a mobile version of Lightroom that works with iPads and iPhones (but not currently with devices using the Android or Windows operating systems).
There are several additional features that may interest some people, such as 2GB of online storage space, access to Lightroom Web and the ability to use Photoshop CC and Lightroom on multiple machines (although not at the same time).
What happens when the Creative Cloud license ends?
If you stop paying your subscription fee you no longer have the right to use the full versions of Photoshop CC and Lightroom. Photoshop will stop working completely (or at least until you renew the subscription).
But Lightroom is different. Bear in mind that with Lightroom your Raw files are untouched. The edits you make are stored in the Catalog. If you lose access to the Catalog, you lose access to all the edits you have made to your images, including all post-processing.
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 6 Torrent
Adobe doesn’t want that to happen, so it gives you partial access to Lightroom even if you cancel your Creative Cloud subscription. You have full access to the Library, Book, Print, Slideshow and Web modules. The Develop module is severely restricted (you can’t make any adjustments using the right-hand panels) and there is no access to the Map module.
Your Catalog remains intact, including any Collections you’re created and any changes to metadata, including ratings and keywords. So does your post-processing, and the ability to make basic edits to photo files using the Quick Develop panel. You can also export your photos any time you want.
You need to have Lightroom Version 5.5 or later installed for this to work.

Conclusion
Hopefully you are now clearer about how the two ways of buying Lightroom differ, and which is best for you. If you want to use the most up to date version of Photoshop CC, or Lightroom Mobile, then the Creative Cloud subscription service is the choice for you.
However, if you don’t require the latest version of Photoshop CC, or Lightroom Mobile, then buying the standalone version is the least expensive way to go.
What do you think? Have Adobe got it right with the price and services offered for the Creative Cloud Photography plan? Do you use the Creative Cloud version of Lightroom or the standalone version? Please let us know in the comments.

Two days before learning that she would lose her job, Lissa Gilliam spent hundreds of dollars online on baby products. A 37-year-old expectant mother, Ms. Gilliam had planned to ask local parents in Seattle for used strollers and secondhand onesies in a bid to reduce waste. But as the coronavirus pandemic ravaged the area, new items delivered in boxes seemed a safer bet. She figured she could afford the splurge, earning $50 an hour as a full-time contractor designing educational curriculums for a nonprofit. But then, on April 2, her employer slashed her hours and told her that her contract would end in early May — a few weeks before she is to give birth. Suddenly, like many others, Ms. Gilliam became hyperaware of her expenses. She and her husband, a high school physics teacher, now take a painful daily tally of their financial priorities: Is that $5 monthly web magazine subscription really necessary? How much does watering the garden cost? When will they need to tap their paltry savings? “We’re OK for now,” she said. “But the bottom may fall out from under us.” As millions of Americans lose jobs, take pay cuts, close businesses and absorb family members into their homes, they are being forced to rethink where their money goes. Even before the scramble for new jobs can begin, people are cajoling creditors, looking for gig work or simply cutting back to get through the first few disorienting weeks. “An economic shock like this could have a long-term impact on people who have traditionally felt like they were being cautious, that they weren’t profligate with their money, but didn’t have to worry about paying for rent or affording food,” said Stephanie Aaronson, the director of economic studies at the Brookings Institution. “They might have more debt, which will make it harder to spend in the future, or they might just feel less secure, which could boost savings and potentially dampen the recovery.” Ms. Gilliam and her husband are waiting for Washington State to make jobless benefits available to contractors through a federal assistance program, and hope to take advantage of a state program for maternity aid once their daughter is born. A $15,000 construction project planned for the rear of their house is on hold. They canceled their gym membership, their Hulu streaming service, multiple newspapers and even the Adobe Acrobat software that Ms. Gilliam uses for design work. On the whole, Ms. Aaronson said, household finances “were in relatively good condition as of six weeks ago — they were actually pretty healthy.” Now, she said, “a much broader swath of households are experiencing a complete loss of income compared to what we typically see in a recession.” Before the pandemic, Carol Cruz’s private health insurance plan cost her $840 a month — up from less than $500 four years ago. The bill ate up most of her $1,200 monthly paycheck, exceeding even the $600 monthly payment on the house she shares with her husband and their 17-year-old granddaughter in Tulare, Calif. On March 29, she was furloughed from her part-time job as a mental health therapist until at least the end of May. Other than the state unemployment benefits she hopes to receive soon, Ms. Cruz, 62, no longer has an income. So she got on the phone for at least three hours a day, asking for leniency from the health insurance provider, her mortgage lender and the credit union that holds the loan for her husband’s Chevrolet truck. All offered her more flexible terms, including 90-day grace periods and pay-what-you-can options. (Some creditors, she said, were less willing to negotiate.) The adjustments help keep the bills manageable, Ms. Cruz said. But her grocery costs have doubled, now that the price of eggs has soared and her granddaughter is no longer having free lunches at school. “I don’t know about my future,” Ms. Cruz said. “I’m not letting myself think about tomorrow, just about whether we have food today and money in the bank.” But some people, many of whom have never seriously budgeted, are now mapping out strict spending schedules for the next few months. After being furloughed in mid-March from her bartending and serving job at a Minneapolis concert hall, Krissy Calbert, 26, went from earning $300 in tips some nights to having no income as she waited for government aid. “It was two weeks of just panic — I was just going off the groceries I already had, trying to ration until money came in,” she said. “You get really creative. You eat little half meals, and you experiment with your seasonings and condiments to try to forget that you’re eating the same thing over and over.” Earlier this month, Ms. Calbert began receiving a weekly infusion of $1,100 from the state. She is now trying to reschedule when monthly bills are due so she can space out the payments: $600 for rent, $75 for her phone, up to $120 for utilities, $60 for streaming services, $200 for credit cards, plus other expenses. “I’m trying to get all of my credit card payments into the same week, so I can have a credit card week, a rent week, a phone week,” Ms. Calbert said. She has switched her grocery shopping from Target to Aldi, where, she said, she can afford to splurge on fresh produce and protein. Without health insurance, she is willing spend an extra $30 or $40 on fruits and vegetables in hopes of keeping her immune system strong, she said. “I can’t take the risk,” Ms. Calbert said. “A hospital bill right now would ruin me.” More than half of lower-income adults in the United States say they will struggle to pay bills this month, compared to a quarter of their middle-income counterparts and 11 percent of those in the upper-income tier, according to a survey of nearly 5,000 adults by Pew Research Center. Researchers defined a three-person household earning $37,500 to $112,600 annually as middle-income. Over all, more than half of those who expect a federal stimulus infusion will use most of the money to cover essential expenses, while one in five say they plan to save the funds. To create a financial buffer, many people are hunting for freelance or part-time work. Searches for work-from-home jobs rose 126 percent in March on FlexJobs, while traffic to the site has boomed 58 percent from a year ago. On Upwork, companies are looking for people to provide tech support for their homebound employees and to draft corporate messages about the coronavirus. Lonn Dugan, a digital marketing specialist in Sylvania, Ohio, has seen many clients scaling back their promotional efforts, such as one nonprofit that cut its budget by 90 percent after a major annual event was canceled. But another client, an agricultural supply company, commissioned a major website update, while a local mental health group wanted to ramp up its virtual support groups. The pressure on Mr. Dugan, 60, is intense. His workday is three hours longer than it used to be, between his existing clients and his attempts to drum up new business. He and his wife lost a third of their incomes; neither is eligible for government aid. “We’re completely overwhelmed by the shortfall. We can afford groceries and maybe the house and car payments, and that’s it,” he said. “But we’re not alone, and we’re focusing on acceptance as opposed to hand-wringing. We’re taking care of necessities, and that’s enough for right now.” Still, Mr. Dugan admits being stretched thin emotionally. He misses his wife, even though they are in the same house and she no longer needs to make a two-hour round-trip commute to her health care job. But the couple are so busy trying to stay afloat that they have stopped cooking fresh meals and turn instead to frozen dinners and fast food. “We just don’t have time,” he said. “We’re exhausted at the end of the day.” The post Finances – The New York Times appeared first on Sansaar Times.

EDIT: my previous explanation left out a lot of stuff that i wasn’t sure about and didn’t want to go into because of that, here is a better explanation, please reblog this one instead!
i really encourage people to read the actual article, but to be completely clear, from what i can tell;
the company is releasing csp 2 in 2023, at which point csp will no longer receive any major updates outside of big fixes and stability stuff. if you already bought csp, you can still use it in perpetuity.
you have the option to upgrade csp to the most recent version on an annual subscription basis. you also have the option to buy a perpetual license for csp 2 at release, however this will only be the release version, and it will not receive any major updates outside of stability updates. you can also get the annual purchase update pass for this as well, and if you do not renew your subscription csp will revert to whatever your newest perpetual purchase is.
eventually, they are going to release csp 3. upon csp 3’s release, they will discontinue support to the original csp. csp will still be available to use, but i assume this means it will no longer receive any updates. just like with csp 2, you will have the option to buy a perpetual purchase of the launch version of csp 3, that as before will not receive any major updates outside of fixes unless you pay a subscription fee. one can assume this cycle will repeat in perpetuity with further versions of csp.
outside of ALL of this, you have the completely separate option to purchase a monthly subscription, in which you have the newest version of csp monthly, and if you cancel your subscription, you lose all access to this csp subscription, as with products like adobe. this does not affect your ability to access csp 1 if you already had that perpetual license, this is a separate purchase
this isn’t the worst thing in the world, but it is absolutely shitty, because a huge reason i would recommend csp was because of the affordable, one-time purchase that also includes lots of really great updates. i absolutely encourage everyone who wants csp to get it now, legally or otherwise.
clip studio paint is switching to a subscription model in 2023, so here’s your reminder that pirating is moral
#edit: i didn’t expect this many notes on the post so y’all getting mad at me in the notes for not going into deep detail about it can shhh#whenever i make these kinds of posts i always link the actual articles#because i think it’s very important for people to go and actually read what it says!!!!#i don’t want to spread misinfo on stuff like this!!!!#but i’m also human and can read things wrong so people should read it for themselves

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!
this concerns all my blogs: neighboursdaily, dailymidsomermurders, dailydeathinparadise and samhannadaily
at the moment, i am a month away from finishing my third year of law school and because of how busy i have been with assignment and exams, i have not been able to keep this blog as active, particularly in regards to making new content as what i intended as i’m sure a lot of people have noticed. i have also recently discovered that next year, my course structure will be changing to block units. which for anyone who doesn’t know, currently it takes 12 weeks to get through one subject but next year, it will change and each subject will need to be completed in 4 weeks.
given how little time i have had for this blog over the last few months, from next year i will probably have even less time for it and because of this, i have decided to cancel my current subscription with adobe photoshop and will only have access to it until the 30th of october. i’ve come to realise that an annual subscription isn’t practical anymore as i only have the time when studying to use it once or twice a week, if i;m lucky and it is a lot of money to be spending on something i don’t use.
i do still intend for this blog to be active. therefore, once i finish my last exam on the 9th of november, i will be looking for an alternative to making gifs or more to the point, seeing if i can find a free version of photoshop. whether or not this is possible, i don’t know but i am going to try. if i am unable to find another way to make gifs, than i have decided to reactivate my subscription on a monthly basis and this is intended to happen in either mid december or the beginning of january. as i will have the time to gif during this period.
i have already compiled a list of requests and other gifs to make during this time and depending on how many i manage to make, i will be posting them slowly over the course of several weeks or months. i have also noticed lately there are more active gif makers in the fandom which is fantastic and i will be reblogging all of the gifs however, it may not necessarily be immediately after it has been posted.
i am also looking into other means of keeping the blog active aside from gifs and if anyone has any suggestions just let me know.

I woke up at 6AM so I could catch the new Owl House.
It was so awesome! Since Dana Terrence was having her show canceled due to gay people, she just added even gayer people to the show. It was so sick and I am so hyped for the net two episodes!
I tried going back to sleep after, but I was already awake. We all went to Jens for breakfast and to watch Rugby. I pet their giant white dog which is literally just a mound of fluff and also the cutest fucking thing known to man.
Apparently, Kaleo was skating last night too.
After that, we went to the pumpkin patch with Mema and Papa. Simon kept trying to run off. There were these little chicks that had feathers all the way down to their feet which made it look like they were wearing pajama pants.
All of the good pumpkins were already gone so we got some Walmart pumpkins instead. Then, I went to hang out with Juno at city park. When I got home for the night, I finished my midterm and asked for an extension for my Illustrator project since my Adobe subscription decided to run out.

Okay so storytime.
I use Photoshop for school :)
The day before my first class I bought it on Adobe cuz I didn't have anyone who could help me at the moment to crack it. It was only 9.75€ a month and I was like "oh sure I'll just use it for this month and then I'll get one of my classmates to help me with the cracked version."
This happened on the 19th of January. Now a few days ago, on the 18th of February I log on my Adobe cloud shit thing whatever to unsubscribe. And oh, what a surprise, I have a 53€ unsubscription fee to pay if I want to unsubscribe.
Note: Adobe's contracts state that if you unsubscribe before the first 14 days since the payment, you won't pay the fee and you'll get a refund. :)
Now. Call me dumb or whatever, but my sister and I didn't really notice that our plan was a yearly plan. So yeah maybe I was a bit dumb. But even so. If I wanna unsubscribe from a plan earlier than the end date why should I pay half of the whole price? Why should I pay at all. Never in my life I had to pay an unsubscription fee and I was really pissed and very very anxious cuz that was my sister's money and I didn't want to make her pay either the fee or keep using Photoshop for a year for the price of 115€.
Now, I'm panicking, I'm googling, she's googling too how we can unfuck this mess and fuck Adobe back. Lucky I find an article! I'll link it too. My sister found a similar one but the principle is the same.
THE QUESTION YOU'VE ALL BEEN ASKING IS HERE.
HOW DOES ONE FUCK ADOBE AFTER THEY'VE LITERALLY THREATENED YOU INTO STAYING WITH THEM?
Easy. Like I said earlier, if you unsubscribe before the 14 days are over there's no fee. So what you're going to do is, you go to "my plan" settings or something and instead of "end plan" you go to "edit plan".
Now you're going to find, among Adobe's vast choice of plans, the cheapest plan ever. My original plan was already 9 euros a month but I read of people paying like 30 moneys a month so just, find the cheapest plan. The one I picked was: InCopy that was only 6€ month. We pay and like, a minute after we unsubscribe from the plan. Since we did this before the 14 days of course we don't pay the fee and we got a refund.
Moral of the story.
My classmate even asked me "why did you even pay Adobe in the first place. Piracy is always correct" and I was like "my man you're so correct".
I can't stress enough the fact that they're thieves. Sure I could have paid more mind to what I was buying but I needed the program so I bought it. ALSO, fucking Adobe has no monthly plan, so you're fucked either way. And, even if you wait a year, then the subscription will just renovate and there's literally no way out. (Other than the one I told you)
So kids, steal from them cuz I hate them, they made me cry, and I swear- look what they told me after I stopped the unsubscription the first time:
"Thank you for the fidelity shown" LIKE????? YOU GUYS FUCKING THREATENED ME? I- this was very funny honestly.
Lmao a thief pulls a knife on you and goes "give me your wallet or I'll kill you". Of course you don't wanna die so you give them the wallet and then they go "oh thank you for the the loyalty and the kindness shown. You're so nice" Like????
Ugh anyways, I'll link the magic formula link that explains this better than I do.
KIDS KEEP STEALING, THESE MOTHERFUCKERS DESERVE THAT :)
https://responsivedesign.is/articles/cancel-adobe-without-paying-the-cancellation-fee/
(The writer of the article was way too kind with Adobe, I hate it with a burning passion and now I think I know what French revolutionaries were feeling when they killed the King)
